The Residential School System
As previously stated, the main goal of the residential school system was to assimilate aboriginal
children and was thought to make them more functional in Canadian society. Children ranging from 4
16 were taken from their homes and families and re homed in institutions with the goal of assimilation
in mind (Nagy, 2012). These institutions were often incredibly harmful to the students because they
were not well kept or staffed, and were severely underfunded. These issues resulted in malnutrition,
diseases, abuse, and even death. Children who attended were subject to abuse emotionally, physically,
and sexually (Chansonneuve, 2012). Along with these issues, the absence of family, native language,
and tradition caused the children to feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some other affects of residential schools as described by elders include: loss of language, loss of
sexuality, loss of spirituality, developing shame to people, anxiety, and loss of traditional food source
(Chartrand, 2006).
The Métis people of Canada were not originally required to attend residential schools. The Roman
Catholic Church urged the government to include these people to increase funding, and fill up the
schools. The government initially opposed this idea, but admitted Métis to the school only when there
were not enough Indian students in the area where the school was located. Many Métis children were
not even recorded as enrolled in the institutions making it difficult to determine exactly how many
children attended (Logan, 2006).
The Residential School experience proved to be even harder for Métis children. They were referred to
as Half Breeds and were not recognized by the First Nations and Non First Nations so they were
considered outsiders by both. A study done by Tricia Logan explains that although the Métis children
were subject to the same conditions and rules as the other children, when surveyed it was clear that
their stories differed from those of other First Nation s (Daniels, 2006). Along with already being
considered outsiders by those around them, the funding for Métis children also created the image of
them being outsiders (Daniels, 2006). A survivor of Ile a La Cross school recalls that his institution
could not afford the same

Crime Entertainment Satire
Let s say you went to your local bank to despot some checks and out of the corner of your eye you
notice a group of men storm into the bank like a bat out of hell, armed with assault rifles and wearing
ski masks. With a rifle muzzle shoved in your face you are at the mercy of their every command.
Would the first thought that crosses your mind be, This is the coolest thing ever! or would you be
scared shitless? My assumption would be the second one. With that being said, why is our society so
attracted to these aspects of crime portrayed in entertainment but we would do everything to avoid it
all cost in real life? Does America s love for crime, whether on the television or in the movies, secretly
revel our own desires to live the dangerous and exciting lives of the criminals, police officers, and FBI
agents we marvel at every night? As humans we aren t all sociopaths but watching other people rolling
the dice with their lives is fascinating, and somewhat rewarding.

Emily, Cody And Lucas Were The Ones At Home
When I enter the home the first thing I noticed was that only Emily, Cody and Lucas were the ones at
home. Benjamin, Logan and Drew were out with their therapist for the afternoon. Emily and Cody we
re upstairs playing but after about 5 minutes Ms. Orbach and I heard a door slamming. We went
upstairs to check on them. At some point Cody no longer wanted to play with Emily and this made
Emily very upset. Ms. Orbach told them to come downstairs and play and they are not allowed to play
upstairs by themselves.
Once they were downstairs in the living room Cody went to the dining table to color and Emily was
playing with her dolls on the floor. Lucas was moving between the two of them. Ms. Orbach and I
then began our conversation about the second parent mentor. I explained to her the reason for the
second parent mentor. They would be another set of eyes into the house , so we can get more things
done throughout the day. It would also be someone there to help supervise the six children. Since they
break off into different sections of the house. I explained it to her in a way that it is about getting more
help versus pushing her to do it all on her own.
She told to me, she is not the one, who said no to the second Parent Mentor, It was the Judge during
one of her court dates. Her husband s lawyer also made some comments to the Judge. He did not think
it was a good idea for her to have a second Mentor. After the judge heard what the lawyers had to said
the Judge agreed she

Various Views on Unethical Behavior Essay
From the beginning of humanity, some form of principles about morals, right and wrong,
professionalism, etc. has been established. In most cases these rules or codes were never officially
recorded in earlier times, but they were naturally understood laws that governed human behavior.
These laws have been transformed and molded through past centuries by the brilliant minds of
philosophers such as Plato into a code of conduct that is categorized into what we now call ethics.
Ethics has everything to do with the golden rule of treating others as you would like to be treated and
the natural rights granted to everyday people. Humans have the right to life, physical integrity, and
mental health; they have the right to maintain one s level of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Every engineer should follow these cannons (everybody in any profession should also) but,
realistically, these rules are sometimes pushed aside. When the decision is made to overlook ethics,
terrible things can sometimes happen. Engineering disasters occur every day, and I believe that most
of the time it is material impurities/failure. However, an engineer isn t perfect, and unethical behavior
has been the cause of countless disasters such as the Challenger explosion, the Kansas City Hyatt
Regency walkway collapse, etc. I want to know where engineers have gone wrong. What causes an
engineer or anybody out there to make an unethical decision? Carelessness due to laziness, strict
deadlines, and people higher up in command could all be factors behind disasters. The laziness and
carelessness factor is a very broad subject when talking about ethics. Everything from cutting corners
to make jobs easier to a

Positive And Negative Effects Of E-Learning
A lot of people are heading to E learning. E learning is a short form of internet learning. That means if
the person want to have E learning he should ably online. E leaning is the newest way of education in
this century. So in the last few years a lot of people start to get their learning online. E learning offers
manes major to learn, open time to get learned, a degree of the major. Also E learning could be in
anywhere or in anytime. Because of that E learning can be useful for workers, house wives, and
mothers. But most of people are not aware of the negative effects of E learning. Not fair, less method,
and effects the health these are three main effects of E learning.
First, E learning is not a fair way to get our education from. E learning could abuse student. The abuse
that the student will face from the E learning shows that this kind of learning is not useful. For
example, E learning does not have any trustiness. Any student could get high greed in E learning. If
the student studies hard or the student cheats no one could know. If there is any test or exam they
could open their books and answered the question easily without the teacher knowledge. In E learning
all what the student need is user and password. Then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the good way to learn. No mater of what level of advance we are now still the old schools is the best.
Student can share their day, information, and knowledge. So for the people who are thinking of
completing their education or parents who want their kids to get learned register in real schools. Real
schools let the student have a lot of specifications like collaboration, interlocutor, friendly, and

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( Cbt ), Group Therapy,...
A variety of problems can plague families. These can range from mental health issues in parents or
children all the way to problems involving abuse and neglect. To keep families functioning in a
healthy manner, there are many therapeutic approaches that can be used to intervene and change the
course of the familial issues. While remaining focused on family matters, I will introduce five of these
interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), group therapy, client centered therapy,
psychotherapy and mindfulness based stress reduction. By placing a significant amount of importance
on problems occurring in the present, this type of psychotherapy is appealing to patients with a desire
to learn their way to better mental health. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Facilitating this collaborative process involves the therapist acting as an educator and active
participant in therapy. The concept of the therapist as an active participant means that the therapist is
there, not just to observe or interpret, but also to engage, lead and teach. The cognitive behavioral
therapist acts as a guide to their patients; they guide their patients toward goal completion. Through
creating, assigning and following up on real world applications of behavior changing techniques, the
therapist assumes the role of an educator in the patient practitioner dyad. CBT is structured therapy.
This means that there is a standard arrangement for each session. Beck (1995) stated the underlying
principle for adherence to a defined structural model as being important to increasing understanding of
the therapeutic process for both the patient and the therapist, to preventing relapse of symptoms after
cessation of therapy and directing the focus of the session toward the most important issues (p. 8).
This structure limits the possibility of idleness in the patient s progression due to sessions that derail,
ending up off focus and off topic. The structure of a CBT session begins with checking the patient s
current mood, recapitulating the previous session and homework, setting an agenda for the current
session, and assigning a new homework assignment. CBT is not without its limitations, however. For
some families, there may be

Oz Character Analysis Of Oz
Dorothy lives in a place that many people would be loath to call home. The Kansas prairie is vast and
monochromatic, with dangerous cyclones and an absence of color and beauty. It turns the once pretty
and young Aunt Em into an old, dour woman before her time. Oz, by contrast, is stunningly gorgeous
and fantastical. It is peopled with strange folk, a marvelous emerald city, verdant fields of flowers and
miles of healthy farmland, deep forests, and adventures galore. Most of its inhabitants are cheerful,
helpful, and virtuous. It seems strange that Dorothy would want to leave this land for her home.
However, the importance of realizing the significance of one s roots prevails. Dorothy never questions
her return. She is from Kansas, her guardians are there, and she has duties to fulfill. She finds much to
love about Oz but knows it is not where she belongs. This is an understandable mindset for a child no
matter how fascinating or exotic a place, it is always more comforting to be in a familiar setting.
Baum understood his intended audience well.
Childhood
Although she is portrayed as a 16 year old in the film, Dorothy is most assuredly a child in the novel.
W.W. Denslow s charming illustrations reveal her to be a wide eyed, spirited little girl. Dorothy is the
quintessential child heroine, for she is unassuming, open minded, simple, and frank. Baum wanted
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to be a fairy tale, but unlike other fairy tales, his child protagonist does

How Does Radish Grow Under Green Light
Discussion:
In the end, my data only partially supported my hypothesis. There was indeed a statistically highly
significant difference in plant height between radish height under red vs blue grow lights as well as a
statistically highly significant difference between radish height under green vs blue lights. However,
my data showed no statistical difference in plant height between radishes grown under green vs red
lights. This being said, my hypothesis was still technically correct because there was a difference
between the height in plants grown under different colored lights.
Surprisingly, the second part of my hypothesis was incorrect about the relationship between radish
plant height and radish plant mass. I had predicted a strong correlation, but there turned out to be no
statistically significant correlation between plant height and plant mass. There was actually an almost
Simpson s Paradox (almost because the data is not actually split) between plant height and weight
when grown under red light and plant height and weight when grown under green light. The red light
seemed to be better for plant growth originally because the mean plant height for red was higher than
that of green, however when you look at plant mass instead of height, green in the clear victor. This
result was so surprising that I did more research to figure out why it was the case. It turns out that
radishes actually grow up (grow their stalks taller) instead of out (expanding their leaf area) when they
are light deprived. The reason why the red ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Psychological Problems And Development Of Childhood...
Introduction The developmental psychopathology approach is the study of psychological problems
and complexities in human development. It focuses on the atypical development of childhood through
to adult life. According to Sroufe and Rutter (1984) it focuses on individual patterns of adaptation and
maladaptation throughout development. This approach is designed to prevent behavioural and
emotional differences within development, whilst positively reinforcing the idea of typical
development. Cases of atypical development can include ADHD, eating disorders, anxiety and many
other developmental disorders that differ from the developmental population norm. According to
Ciccheti (1984) developmental psychopathology must draw upon the results of many different areas of
research: in particular, general developmental psychology, traditional academic psychology, and also
the clinical sciences of psychiatry and clinical psychology (p.1) This implies that to find the link
between typical and atypical behaviour, researchers must draw upon the social, biological and
psychological aspects of a persons life. Cummings et al (2003) believed that developmental
psychopathology is best defined by its primary goal; achieving a science that could unravel the
dynamic process relations underlying pathways of normal development and the development of
psychopathology (p.17) From this it is assumed that this approach aims to expand the knowledge of
developmental disorders that affect the typical

Martha Stewart Trial Case
In 2001 public celebrity Martha Stewart sold stock in a large biotech company named ImClone. This
act landed her in a large amount of trouble with the Federal Government and the SEC. She was held to
trial and many things were told and discussed throughout the trial case. Through this research you will
see several people s sides and statements they made during the jury trial and throughout the whole
case.
On December 29, 2001, just two days after Celebrity Martha Stewart sold her stock in ImClone, the
companies stock dropped sixteen percent when the Food and Drug Administration told it had rejected
the main drug Erbitux, for cancer treatment. (According to an article written by Julia Leite of the
Columbia Journalism School) Martha, by selling right before the FDA s announcement, she avoided a
loss of $45,673, a tiny fraction of her net worth, which the famous Forbes magazine estimated at $700
million just six months earlier. This decision that Stewart made would end up being one of the biggest
she would make during her whole career, that would also send her to federal prison. She was not the
only person that had invested in the company that avoided major losses just before the decision of the
FDA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regulators of the SEC had an easier job finding the CEO of insider trading, because when someone of
that authority sells a large amount of their own company s stock just a few days before the FDA
announcement raises a large and obvious red flag. The case for Martha Stewart would be more
complicated and more research had to be done by the regulators to prove her guilty. During the
investigation and the court trial, a piece of information was told that could hurt Martha s chance for
proving she was not

The Magnicent Earth s Surface
One other aspect of the magnificent earth is the surface itself. The layers of the Earth are very
different in their composition. The crust, mantle, and core of the earth are all very fascinating. Also, a
theory called plate tectonics attempts to explain many phenomena that occur on the surface of the
earth, such as earthquakes. Some properties of the earth s surface are its layers, the plate tectonics
theory, and earthquakes. The layers of the earth are very complex. These layers are the crust, mantle,
and core (Wile 132). The core is divided into two regions: the inner core and the outer core (Wile
131). Earth s crust is defined as Earth s outermost layer of rock (Wile 132). The thickness of the crust
averages 55 to 12 miles (Wile 132). In addition to rock, the crust of the earth contains soil and
sediment (Wile 132). Sediment is defined as small, solid fragments of rock and other materials that are
carried and deposited by wind, water, or ice (Wile 132). Sedimentary rock is also found on the earth s
crust. Sedimentary rock is rock formed when chemical reactions cement sediments together, hardening
them (Wile 133). Igneous rock, rock that forms from molten rock , is also found in the crust (Wile
133). Melted rock that cools and re solidifies becomes igneous rock (Wile 133). The last kind of rock
in the crust is called meromorphic rock (Wile 133). This is igneous or sedimentary rock that has been
changed into a new kind of rock as a result of great pressure

Watergate Scandal Research Paper
The discovery of a burglary that occurred in the early morning of June 17, 1972 in the Democratic
National Committee headquarters at the Watergate hotel in Washington, D.C., unleashed a series of
arrests and investigations that are known as the Watergate scandal. This incident led to the arrest of
five men, Bernard Barker, Virgilio Gonzalez, Eugenio Martínez, James W. McCord Jr., and Frank
Sturgis who were inside the office attempting to wiretap phones and steal secret documents. When
these men, which were dressed in business attire and wore latex gloves, were taken into custody they
had in their possession cameras, film, tools to break in, and three pen size tear gas guns. James W.
McCord Jr. was born 1924 in Oklahoma, and after obtaining his BBA and MS from college he began

The True Benefits Of Wolves
For centuries, wolves have been regarded as the enemy. Whether from fairy tales like the three little
pigs, to little red riding hood, people constantly loathe them. Why is this? You see, it is human nature
to look for a common enemy. Unfortunately, wolves are seen as that enemy. Nevertheless, despite the
negative images in the media and mass wolf culls, they keep on persisting. By killing wolves, we are
damaging our environment and disrupting the natural cohesion that has been established between
wolves and lower members of the food chain. Wolves are believed to be responsible for the majority
of cattle losses, but this simply is not based on scientific evidence. One species of wolf, the Red wolf,

Because of this, the ungulate populations began to increase dramatically. This caused a decrease in
vegetation due to the larger herbivores consuming a large amount of it. According to Reagan Downey,
an educator at the Wolf Conservation Center, the effects were devastating, stating, You cannot eat in
one area and stay there the entire day, because there s always the chance that something s going to try
and eat you. However, without wolves in Yellowstone, elk could just stay there and so they would eat
until all of the vegetation was gone. In addition, when nothing was left, they would move to a new
area. Therefore, the landscape became very flat and very barren because nothing was there. Because
the elk ate the vegetation, many animals were losing out on being able to eat as well because the elk
were growing in number. So it caused other animals to move out and die, The effects of no wolves in
the area was, in the long run, extremely unhealthy for the ecosystem of Yellowstone National Park. In
January of 1995, United States and Canadian officials captured fourteen wolves and released them
back into Yellowstone. An additional seventeen wolves were captured and released into Yellowstone
in January of 1996, effectively bringing the ecosystem back into balance. After this happened, the
ungulate population naturally declined back to healthy numbers, the vegetation increased, and the
animals who were low on the food chain finally had a stable place to

Founding The New Country And Third Branch Essay
Founding the New Country and Third Branch
The American Revolutionary War originated by the resistance of the Americans Patriots to the unfair
taxes imposed by the British parliament. The resistance movement led into boycotts of British goods
and the destruction of a shipment of tea at the Boston Tea Party. The British government retaliated by
shutting down the Port of Boston and taking away the limited colonial self government. The Patriots
responded by taking control of the provinces governments outside of Boston, the armed action that
called the Suffolk Resolves. Twelve other American colonies supported the caused and joined with
Massachusetts and formed the First Continental Congress and set up committees and conventions to
coordinate resistance, which effectively seized power. On July 2, 1776, the Second Continental
Congress formally voted for independence and issued the Declaration of Independence on July 4,
1776. Thus the new Republic of United States of America was born. Meanwhile, the British were
mustering forces to suppress the Patriots movement. Gaining financial and military support from
France in 1778, the Second Continental Congress continued during the American Revolutionary War.
The conflict gradually expanded into that the British force combating against France, Spain, and the
Netherlands, effectively created the first world war in the contemporary history of the world (Gray

Analysis Of The Poem Coca Cola And Coco Frio By Martin...
Disappearing Culture Every single individual on this planet has their own distinctive identity and
culture. Our culture helps us identify who we are and where we come from. In today s world, it
appears that cultural diffusion has become a normal part of everyone s life as cultural trends, beliefs
and customs spread quickly from one culture to another. In his poem, Coca Cola and Coco Frio,
Martin Espada provides his readers with a great example of cultural diffusion that a boy encounters
when he visits his native country, Puerto Rico. The fat boy mentioned in the poem is none other than
Martin Espada himself (3). By sharing his childhood experience in Puerto Rico, Espada tries to prove
that acceptance of other cultures can have a negative impact as people incline to neglect their own
cultural values and begin to bear a resemblance to other countries. As a child, Espada travelled from
Brooklyn, New York to his homeland, Puerto Rico to visit his family for the first time. During his
visit, Espada fears that Puerto Rican culture is vanishing and threatened by American values imposed
on them due to the presence of American corporate powers. It is known that Puerto Rican culture is a
mix of many cultures and is strongly influenced by Taino Indians, America, Africa and Spain ( Culture
and Traditions in Puerto Rico ). During the Spanish American War, Puerto Rico became the territory
of the United States when it was conquered on July 25, 1898 ( Puerto Rico: A U.S. Territory ).

Negative Effects Of Stress
According to a poll, about one in every four Americans (about sixty million people) have claimed to
have encountered some stress this past month (Whyte n.p.). Sometimes, the intensity of stress causes
anxiety or frustration. Which is why for the most part, stress is taken as a negative impact on an
individual. Whether that stress comes from school, money, environment, work or all of them,
everyone walks the same path of stress sometimes without even realizing it. Although many people
perceive stress in a negative way, there s some surprising benefits of stress that we are not aware of. It
all comes down to the basic element of what stress is. Stress is an anticipated feeling someone gets
when they get into any trouble or difficulty. The human body reacts physically to any stressor that
comes across. For example, our body has two important systems that play a role sympathetic nervous
system and parasympathetic system. The parasympathetic system is known as a rest and digest
response in which hormones send adrenaline and other transmitters to your body. On the other hand,
the sympathetic nervous system is known as a fight or flight response in which it uses that adrenaline
in order to react quickly. Therefore, both these symptoms react to any stressor that can prepare the
human body for anything that might come across, physically and mentally. (Grant n.p.) Stress can
benefit us in many ways. For one, it can help humans increase their cognitive learning and

Form, Symbolism, And Conflict In Siddhartha
Use of Form, Symbolism, and Conflict in Siddhartha
Hermann Hesse uses the literary devices of form, symbolism, and conflict to develop his novel,
Siddhartha.
Hermann Hesse s novel, Siddhartha, is a novel of classical symmetry, a perfection achieved (Hermann
Hesse 25). It tells the story of a young man who sets out to find his true self. Throughout his journey,
Siddhartha converts to various religions, searching for the one religion that will help him discover his
identity. As his journey continues, the main character is forced to overcome various obstacles in
pursuit of his true self. He learns the ways of reality and its many flaws. As the story progresses, he
comes across a river inhabited by Vasudeva, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in the third chapter, Siddhartha realizes that Buddha, whom he calls Gotama or the
Illustrious One, has failed to quench his thirst for truth and knowledge. His journey will then lead him,
in the fifth chapter, to Kamala and a life of darkness and self destruction. It is in the fourth chapter,
entitled The Awakening, in which Siddhartha decides he must seek a new solution to satisfy his
spiritual hunger; here, Hesse s use of the interlude chapter signals this transition in Siddhartha s quest.
Each of the interludes sums up the previous three chapters while setting the stage for the next three.
They enable Hesse to develop two major characteristics of novel, transition and foreshadowing.
Hesse s next method of development is through the use of symbolism. A reoccurring smile appears at
various times throughout his novel. The smile represents fulfillment, as exhibited when Siddhartha
discovers his true self. This symbol also serves as the visual manifestation of the inner achievement
(Hesse: A Study in Theme and Structure 171). The smile is seen at the end of the novel with Govinda,
who is elated by Siddhartha s newfound happiness. It reappears with Buddha, who represents the
height of fulfillment. This use of symbolism helps Hesse in his development by illustrating Siddhartha

In all of the previous Don Juan legends Don Juan is doomed to hell for his mischievous deeds and
seductive schemes. Instead of vanishing into the painful flames of hell Don Juan was allowed to float
away as an angel with his love Dona Inés. This astonishing ending drew quite a lot of curiosity as to
why Zorrilla would allow such an evil and deceitful man to flourish in heaven. The same sins of lying,
cheating, and killing were committed in all the Don Juan legends just as this one which is why I did
not understand what allowed Don Juan to be granted salvation. In my opinion for Zorrilla to alter the
ending of the renowned Don Juan legend this has to somehow relate to his personal life. Throughout
this drama I noticed the similar association

Misconceptions of Rastafarianism
Sam Cook 12/1/2012 Rhetoric of Reggae Tuna (Professor Snider) Common Misconceptions of the
Rastafarian People When an average person hears the word Rastafarianism, several things come to
mind. Some examples would be the stereotypical images of dreadlocks (long braids or natural locks of
hair), the smoking of ganja (marijuana), the busy streets of Trenchtown, and the reggae rhythms of the
one and only Bob Marley. Unfortunately, those things are not necessarily the makings of what truly
embodies the Rastafari culture. With the growing international popularity of reggae in the 1970 s, the
Rastafarian movement gained headway in Jamaica. Yet this came as both a blessing and curse for the
Rastafarian, because it created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite Rasta s believing in different gods, it is looked down upon to judge another Rastafari for the I

a cult religion. First of all, Rastafari is not a cult. According to www.merriam webster.com, a cult is 1.)
A formal religious veneration. and 2.) A system of religious beliefs and ritual. If someone were to say
that Rastafarianism is a cult based on the first definition, then the same assumption would therefore
have to be made across the board about all organized religions. Secondly, and perhaps even more
importantly than the first definition, Rastafari is not a religion. It is a spiritual livity. (Bisnauth 195

My favorite is that all Rastafarians are from Jamaica. Though the origins of the livity were formed in
Jamaica and focused on repatriation and reconnecting with Africa, I thiopia, the motherland of all
human creation, not all Rastafarians are Jamaican. (Hausman and Marley) There are Rastafarian

The Emergence Of The West
Throughout premodern history, the West held relatively idle next to their Asian and Middle Eastern
counterparts. However by the middle of the nineteenth century, the West emerged as a global
powerhouse. The West stood apart from their counterparts as the world s dominant economic, military,
and geopolitical powers. Their transformation didn t happen overnight, a chronological evaluation of
premodern events supported their emergence. From their plaques in late 14th century to their
dominance in by the 19th century, this chronological approach tracked the economic, military and
geopolitical changes of the West compared to their Asian counterparts. The chronological approach
included the Renaissance, the West s integration of gunpowder and print products, investments in the
British and Dutch East India companies, and their exploration for new land. The emergence of the
West began with the Renaissance in the late 14th century. WTWA mentioned the Ming harkened back
to Han Chinese traditions and the Ottomans looked to Sunni Islam to point the way forward, so
European elites looked to their own traditions for guidance as they rebuilt after the devastation of the
plague (WTWA 402). All three of the global powers reverted back the cultures of their past. Although
the West adhered to their counterparts strategy, they produced very different results. As conservative
cultures, the Han Chinese and the Islamic Ottomans growth stagnated. Respectively, their focus on

Becoming a Registered Nurse
Becoming a registered nurse will take a long journey to finish if you found handling money and
maintaing good grades in high school too be difficult. You can start by getting into a community
college where one can have a second chance, and then be able to transfer to a university, or Cal State,
where one will finish nurse school. Throughout the time you are keeping your grades and performance
high, your mind can already conceive ways to opening more doors and the opportunities to be able to
accomplish the desires you have for the near future. I envision myself getting into a community
college , and then transfer my way to a private university where it gives me the opportunity of
becoming a successful registered nurse. This is the option I decided to take because I also share the
same difficulties that other students have with high school, and lack of money today. It takes every
small achievement to grow to be one big success. Every year college intuition is increasing by six
percent (10 Tips). Cerritos College is one of the cheapest schools that offers good classes, clubs, and
programs. It allows graduates from high school to use their time to figure out what they want to major

Every students focus on taking notes when time comes for their examination and it is certainly
interesting how different styles of note taking can affect the result of their examinations. For example,
some students emphasize important aspects by highlighting it or leaving special marks such as
drawing stars and etc. This report will focus on how to study for exams and there are five steps that
have been acquired from the web (they are listed below).
How to study for exam
1. Review your syllabi
2. Pay attention in class
3. Take good notes and memorize them
4. Make studying a part of your habits
5. Ask about the exam format
Out of five steps, this report will exceptionally concentrate on step 3: take good notes. This step will
be linked with visual perception and colour, auditory perception, short term memory and long term
memory.
How is visual perception and colour related to taking notes? Perception is an active process of locating
and extracting information from the environment and learning is the process of acquiring information
through experience and storing information... Visual perception plays an important role in spelling,

It is anticipated that 4G speeds could be as high as 100 Mbps. Thus, 4G will represent another
quantum leap in mobile Internet speeds and picture quality. Ericsson confirms that 4G could bring
connection speeds of up to 50 times faster than 3G networks and could offer three dimensional visual
experiences for the first time. The following graph represents what has been the typical progression of
wireless communications:
Quality of Service Challenges In wireless networks, Quality of Service (QOS) refers to the measure
of the performance for a system reflecting its transmission quality and service availability (e.g., 4G is
expected to have at least a reliability of 99.99%). Supporting QOS in 4G networks will be a major
challenge. When considering QOS, the major hurdles to overcome in 4G include: varying rate channel
characteristics, bandwidth allocations, fault tolerance levels, and handoff support among
heterogeneous wireless networks. Fortunately, QOS support can occur at the packet, transaction,
circuit, and network levels. QOS will be able to be tweaked at these different operating levels, making
the network more flexible and possibly more tolerant to QOS issues. Varying rate channel
characteristics refers to the fact that 4G applications will have varying bandwidth and transition rate
requirements. In order to provide solid network access to support the anticipated 4G applications, the
4G networks must be designed with both flexibility and scalability. Varying

Tenrikyo Is A Religion Of The World
Tenrikyo is a religion that emphasizes on how the joyous state of mind can greatly influence in what
will be going through in our lives by satisfying god s desires by making a good use of our body. In this
paper, I am going to argue that Tenrikyo is one of the fastest growing religions in the world due to its
rapid expansion that leads to an emerging new religion but does not interfere with other religions at
the same time. Tenrikyo is based on a religion established by a Japanese lady named Nakayama Miki
during the 19th century. Tenrikyo is a monotheistic religion that followers believe in the existence of
this one particular God, as known as God the Parent. It was said that Nakayama Miki had received a
calling by god, sent her to save all mankind from sufferings because god is the creator of mankind and
it is his job to make sure that we are all in a joyous state. God showed great mercy towards mankind,
he came down and revealed himself as Nakayama Miki, taking her as mediatrix and his elected shrine.
(van Straelen 8) It was said that she had a revelation at 1838, God the Parent replaced her mind and
thus her words are the words of god. According to Eliade, He argued that all religions originate to
serve the sacred, and stay in contact with them. This is because according to his theory, religions are
man made and it exists because it was meant to be a response to the sacred. From what happened to
Nakayama Miki, a myth might be established because the sacred has

Why Was Persepolis Important To The Persians
The establishment of the magnificent city of Persepolis was of great importance to Persia from 500
BCE to 330 BCE. This city, built by Darius was so important to the Persians because it was the
ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid empire, a sacred and symbolic region for the Persians and also
because it was dedicated to hold official audiences. Through an exploration of both primary and
secondary sources, the reason behind why the establishment of Persepolis is of such importance to the
Persians gas becomes much clearer.
Darius the great beginning construction in 518 BCE established Persepolis, the capital of ancient
Persia. The reasons to its establishment is still consider a mystery but what we do know is that it was

Ruled by darius and then xerxes it was considered the ceremonial capital of Persia. The establishment
of this capital further aided the Persians in ceremonies, trade and most importantly gained respect of
other countries in battle. Persepolis was the example of par excellence of the dynasty. The first reason,
which highlighted the importance, was the ceremonies. Celebrations varied in sizes and all had
different reasons. The most important ceremony that was celebrated is the event Nowruz . Nowruz
meaning new day, was the name of the Iranian New Year. This ceremony created a majestic
atmosphere for the Persians. This event celebrated the first day of spring or Equinox at the beginning
of the year in the Persian calendar. Nowruz is about the only tradition to not resolve around a religious
group. The establishment of Persepolis gave the Persians the opportunity to celebrate as a whole. The
second reason that highlighted the importance of the establishment of Persepolis was the trade. The
Achaemenid Empire was rich and luxurious. An example of trade in Persepolis included darius
revolutionising it by placing it on a silver and gold coinage system and the popular trade items
included orange, Shaw and turquoise. By establishing Persepolis it enhanced trade in the Achaemenid
Empire. The final reason that highlights the importance of the establishment of Persepolis was their
success in battle. Darius and xerxes were highly successful in battle and there are still structures that
depict the sister countries giving the kings gifts. Some of these included lions from the elamites,
brahma bull from the Babylonians and even cloth from the Lydian bolts. Alexander involved
Persepolis as a whole in the battle of the Persian gate, which they weren t successful in which led to its
destruction. Even due to this fact the establishment of Persepolis was highly important to the

The Linguistic Results Of Language Contact
Through looking at patterns of social interaction of different languages it is easy to predict the
linguistic results of language contact. This could be seen through multilingualism which is a result of
language contact between multiple different languages. Multilingualism can create diglossia which
helps display the multilingualism of a country or community and helps show it is useful for predicting
the results of language contact. Code switching in which people switch from one language to another
depending on the situation, helps show how social interaction between speakers of different languages
helps us predict the linguistic results of language contact. Then there is dialect levelling and language
change which helps show the beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All these reasons result in social interaction between speakers of different language, which helps
predict language contact may result in multilingualism. It is estimated that over half of all countries
are multilingual. An example of a multilingual society is Switzerland with three main languages:
French, German and Italian and each language is dominant area of its own. John Edwards believes
that everyone is bilingual, even if someone can only speak or understand, he believes that you have
some command of a foreign tongue therefore there is no clear monolingual country. Therefore
multilingualism is useful in showing how the social interaction between people of different languages
help us predict the linguistic results of language contact as it is an example of what happens when
multiple languages exist and interact in the same country.
In multilingual countries, diglossia occurs, which is the result of language contact and social
interaction. This therefore helps shows how the patterns of social interaction between speakers of
different languages predict results of language contact as diglossia is a result of this and display the
countries multilingualism. Diglossia describes societal or institutionalised bilingualism, where two
varieties are required to cover all the community s domains. (Holmes, p.30) There are two definitions
of diglossia but it is Joshua Fishman s modification of Charles Ferguson s definition that

The Horrors Of Slavery And Through Fiction, By Toni Morrison
Beloved is not just the story of a ghost that came to haunt the living. Behind the word engraved on a
tombstone, there is the history and the memory of an entire people. With this novel of a new genre,
Toni Morrison delves into the horrors of slavery and through fiction, depicts the suffering and the lives
of her ancestors. Yet far from being a documentary, the novel raises the question of amnesia in
America regarding its own history. This is done through denouncing the excesses of a segregation
system, abjection and rejection, which lasted for centuries. Even though Toni denounces the hurt,
shame and pain, black people went through because of slavery, she does not portray that community
as a victim of history. This is much more than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This novel is based on a controversial subject: the plight of blacks in the United States since the end of
slavery, which still remains a sensitive topic even today due to the existing inequalities. On the
narrative level, Morrison tries to restore the voice of victims by giving them a folkloric dimension,
bringing them closer to their true roots. Toni s writing style is often epic, rhythmic, leaving the reader
breathless and holding him or her spellbound. She gives credibility to her characters, allowing them to
assert by offering them the opportunity to speak in some trivial way, the least popular and stripped
them of all artifice. She demonstrates that slavery denies not only the individuality, but also the
identity of the one who suffers it.
In psychology, identity is the awareness that an individual has of oneself and by the recognition of
others, of what that individual is as well as of his or her ego. It allows the individual to perceive what
is unique about him or her, that is to say, his or her individuality. The characters are the heir of several
generations of slaves. They just gained their freedom while their ancestors were the property of
someone else: the slave masters. Sethe was nineteen years old when she escapes from Bon Abri and
Paul D just a few years older. What were therefore the objects of self identification while families

the things that we have dreamed of, we write the personal experiences, we write about the true

Experience As Depicted In James Paul Gee s Analysis
Knowledge obtained from texts and teachers contain flaws in several respects. Unless it is enriched by
wisdom gained from experience, it can sometimes be deceitful. Be that as it may, the knowledge texts
contain is important and based on experience. Understanding how experience affects a person s daily
activities is important in the sense that experience is the basis of people s thought processes.
Experience is useful and valuable in intelligence only obtainable by those who live through the
experience itself.

that are established early in life through socialization from family and peers. Any Discourses obtained
after are considered secondary Discourses. The two types of secondary Discourses are known are
dominant and nondominant Discourse. Gee argues that the distinction among them is that dominant
Discourses are taken in because they help acquire social value, whether it be monetary or prestige,
while non dominant Discourses, may be centered around the person s value in connection with their
network. This heavily relates to the experienced that one gains from their lifetime. Depending how
one chooses to gain experience, their Discourse, or identity will be adjusted. For example, those who
enjoy hiking and rock climbing may choose a Discourse that is outdoors like and free mannered. I find
it interesting and agree with his notions of the different types of Discourses, however I disagree with
his idea that a failure in mastering a discourse results in reverting to one s primary discourse or
identifying with another secondary discourse. I believe that if one fails to master a discourse, that
discourse will still leave a significant mark on one s identity, partially altering their previous
discourse. This notion relates specifically to Gee s reference of creolization. He uses partial language
mastery as an example, but from my personal experience, I have combined the Discourse of Peruvian
culture engrossed with my American culture, even though I am not entirely proficient in the Spanish

Military Draft No longer Necessary Essay
Military Draft No Longer Necessary
Over forty years has passed since the United States inducted the last draftee through the Selective
Service System. The Selective Service System is an independent agency of the United States, which
gives the President the right or power to conscript men for military service. There have been different
Acts passed by congress since 1917 that require men of various ages to register for service. Although,
the name of each Act and the age requirements of the registries changed, the Acts were all similar in
nature. They all gave the President the right to call men to war when he deemed necessary. In January
1973, Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird announced the creation of the all volunteer service,

Since the conscription ended in 1973, the number of members has grown considerably over the years.
Men and women alike enlist for many different reasons; from educational purposes, for the adventure,
and/or other benefits the military has to offer. Many enlist just because they want to defend and serve
the country they live in and no other reason. However, all that do enlist want to be there doing what
they are doing, not because someone told them they have to. The armed forces haven t had any
problems recruiting, and are recruiting more than their goal. According to the Department of Defense,
they are recruiting anywhere from 100 to 105% of their goal each year.
Which leads to another reason we should not reinstate the draft, the draft is not needed because the all
volunteer forces have been successful in serving our country for over 40 years through both war and
peace. Melvin Laird, Secretary of Defense (1969 1973), stated in his article in the Washington Post

Marijuana has been used long before it showed up in the United states. It was widly popular and used
among some of the world s earliest civilizations. Historic Documents show that the cannabis plants
were used to produce rope and fabric around 7000 B.C in South and Central Asia. It was also found
being referenced in Chinese manuscripts dating all the way back to 2700 B.C. In the 1500 s marijuana,
known as Cannabis Sativa was used to make industrial goods. The recreational use in America became

Marijuana was as bad cocaine or heroin was along the lines of the misunderstandings that the plant

beaches are the best spots for vacations anyway. There are more than one reason behind it the sound of
waves, the splash of water against your body, the feel of sand rubbing against you and the warmth of
the Sun all of them conspire together to make you fall in love with beaches. And nothing gets better
than the Caribbean. Dubbed as the spot where modern world meets nature, Caribbean islands have
been a great tourist spot for decades now, thanks to its beautiful beaches. Among the numerous island
and multitudes of beaches, it has always been hard to find the perfect vacation spot. S to help you out,
we have found the best places in the Caribbean that you MUST visit:

Situated in the West Caribbean, the Seven Mile beach is one of its prime attractions which house
numerous hotels and resorts, among other things. If you like some adventure, Cayman Islands offer
scuba diving and snorkeling, apart from the chance to swim beside actual stingrays. For those you like
a different kind of adventure, there are two major shipwrecks (apart from many minor ones) near the
shores which serve as good tourist attractions.
6. Vieques
What makes an island look like an island? The feeling of being deserted. This is exactly what Vieques
offers you, except that it also offers you the bountiful of beauty. With only the population of that of a
really small town, Vieques remains an unexplored beauty that is seeking the more serious travellers
towards it. This solitude especially attracts the newly wed couples, and it has been a favorite
honeymoon destination for quite some time now. Oh, and while you are it, do find time to visit
Mosquito Bay.

James Stevens Equality
The struggle between different social classes and the move toward equality is what has marked the
history of the world, especially over the past few hundred years. Karl Marx s philosophy was that
history is the narrative of class struggle during which the poor seek to overthrow the nobility. Class
distinction is very prevalent in The Remains of the Day. The novel is about the lives of the serving
class in relation to those whom they serve. In The Remains of the Day, James Stevens identity is
consumed by his profession, resulting in him losing the chance to lead a normal life in which he could
find contentment in himself and his relationships rather than his work.
The needs of those who live in and visit Darlington Hall are taken care of by ... Show more content on

All the things that he values are tied to his profession. He values the quality of the work that he does
and takes pride in accomplishing the tasks of his profession with a high degree of effectiveness. This
is shown in the episode where he kept on working after his father s death, refusing to go up and see
him, initially. The fact that he didn t allow personal affairs to get in the way of his work is a point of
great pride for him and he counts that night as one of the triumphs of his career as a butler. This shows
that he has been so conditioned to put his occupation above everything, how it has become his life and
identity, and that his sense of identity is tied to his work. One of the pursuits of Stevens life is to show
dignity. In his opinion, it is the quality that all butlers must show in order to be great. This is what
motivates him to devote his life to being a butler. Stevens spends several pages musing on the criteria
that should be met in order for a butler to be considered great, and this shows how his thinking is bent
toward this. The dignity that he shows in various instances of his career are points of pride for him and
define who he is as a person. He reflects that, I should cease looking back so much...I should adopt a
more positive outlook and try to make the best of what remains of my day (244). Stevens questions the
meaning of his life, as it had always been defined by his professional role as a servant. He comes to
the realization that the way in which he found value in only his work is shallow, and he resolves to
change his mind set so that he will find contentedness not only in his profession, but in his
relationships with other

Htc Case Analysis
The Chums Consulting present the following recommendations to the board of directors of HTC for
your review.
Challenge
HTC, while maintaining its current ODM business, will develop a strategy that leverages its core
competence as a mobile phone manufacturer to create a premium HTC branded smart phone to
achieve a 12% global market share of all end user smart phones within 3 years.
HTC will form strategic partnerships with one or more operating system providers to ensure the
design of the smart phone is tailored and optimised to the selected operating system(s).
HTC will reach customers and create a sustainable sales channel by developing a dynamic sales model
that factors in the unique nature of different national and regional markets. ... Show more content on

The middle and low end models will be distributed internationally via a range of carriers to provide
consumers seeking a lower priced smartphone with the ability to buy a quality HTC smartphone
without changing their current carriers or contract options.
Solution
Based on the analysis of the market and given the potential alternatives, we recommend that the third
alternative will be the best solution for HTC. A Porters analysis was undertaken for an assessment of
the smartphone market which shows that there are two main forces to take into consideration:
competing sellers and buyers. Considering these characteristics of the market we believe that HTC
will be able to feasibly and profitably enter the smartphone market under its own branded phone.
In addition to the Porters analysis a SWOT analysis (Appendix 1) was conducted that highlighted an
opportunity to form a strategic partnership with Google to customize the UI using their Android
operating system (a free open resource OS), significantly reducing licensing costs.
For a sustainable manufacturing future, HTC with use the revenue gained from the cost savings by
using of the Android OS to further develop its R amp;D department to ensure it remains competitive
and successful in hardware design. Moreover, as an established ODM company,

  • 2. The Residential School System As previously stated, the main goal of the residential school system was to assimilate aboriginal children and was thought to make them more functional in Canadian society. Children ranging from 4 16 were taken from their homes and families and re homed in institutions with the goal of assimilation in mind (Nagy, 2012). These institutions were often incredibly harmful to the students because they were not well kept or staffed, and were severely underfunded. These issues resulted in malnutrition, diseases, abuse, and even death. Children who attended were subject to abuse emotionally, physically, and sexually (Chansonneuve, 2012). Along with these issues, the absence of family, native language, and tradition caused the children to feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some other affects of residential schools as described by elders include: loss of language, loss of sexuality, loss of spirituality, developing shame to people, anxiety, and loss of traditional food source (Chartrand, 2006). The Métis people of Canada were not originally required to attend residential schools. The Roman Catholic Church urged the government to include these people to increase funding, and fill up the schools. The government initially opposed this idea, but admitted Métis to the school only when there were not enough Indian students in the area where the school was located. Many Métis children were not even recorded as enrolled in the institutions making it difficult to determine exactly how many children attended (Logan, 2006). The Residential School experience proved to be even harder for Métis children. They were referred to as Half Breeds and were not recognized by the First Nations and Non First Nations so they were considered outsiders by both. A study done by Tricia Logan explains that although the Métis children were subject to the same conditions and rules as the other children, when surveyed it was clear that their stories differed from those of other First Nation s (Daniels, 2006). Along with already being considered outsiders by those around them, the funding for Métis children also created the image of them being outsiders (Daniels, 2006). Crime Entertainment Satire Let s say you went to your local bank to despot some checks and out of the corner of your eye you notice a group of men storm into the bank like a bat out of hell, armed with assault rifles and wearing ski masks. We went upstairs to check on them. At some point Cody no longer wanted to play with Emily and this made Emily very upset. Ms. Orbach told them to come downstairs and play and they are not allowed to play upstairs by themselves. Once they were downstairs in the living room Cody went to the dining table to color and Emily was playing with her dolls on the floor. Lucas was moving between the two of them. Ms. Orbach and I then began our conversation about the second parent mentor. I explained to her the reason for the second parent mentor. They would be another set of eyes into the house , so we can get more things done throughout the day. It would also be someone there to help supervise the six children. Since they break off into different sections of the house. I explained it to her in a way that it is about getting more help versus pushing her to do it all on her own. In most cases these rules or codes were never officially recorded in earlier times, but they were naturally understood laws that governed human behavior. These laws have been transformed and molded through past centuries by the brilliant minds of philosophers such as Plato into a code of conduct that is categorized into what we now call ethics. Ethics has everything to do with the golden rule of treating others as you would like to be treated and the natural rights granted to everyday people. However, an engineer isn t perfect, and unethical behavior has been the cause of countless disasters such as the Challenger explosion, the Kansas City Hyatt Regency walkway collapse, etc. I want to know where engineers have gone wrong. What causes an engineer or anybody out there to make an unethical decision? Carelessness due to laziness, strict deadlines, and people higher up in command could all be factors behind disasters. • 7. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( Cbt ), Group Therapy,... A variety of problems can plague families. These can range from mental health issues in parents or children all the way to problems involving abuse and neglect. To keep families functioning in a healthy manner, there are many therapeutic approaches that can be used to intervene and change the course of the familial issues. While remaining focused on family matters, I will introduce five of these interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), group therapy, client centered therapy, psychotherapy and mindfulness based stress reduction. By placing a significant amount of importance on problems occurring in the present, this type of psychotherapy is appealing to patients with a desire to learn their way to better mental health. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Facilitating this collaborative process involves the therapist acting as an educator and active participant in therapy. The concept of the therapist as an active participant means that the therapist is there, not just to observe or interpret, but also to engage, lead and teach. The cognitive behavioral therapist acts as a guide to their patients; they guide their patients toward goal completion. Through creating, assigning and following up on real world applications of behavior changing techniques, the therapist assumes the role of an educator in the patient practitioner dyad. CBT is structured therapy. This means that there is a standard arrangement for each session. Beck (1995) stated the underlying principle for adherence to a defined structural model as being important to increasing understanding of the therapeutic process for both the patient and the therapist, to preventing relapse of symptoms after cessation of therapy and directing the focus of the session toward the most important issues (p. 8). This structure limits the possibility of idleness in the patient s progression due to sessions that derail, ending up off focus and off topic. The structure of a CBT session begins with checking the patient s current mood, recapitulating the previous session and homework, setting an agenda for the current session, and assigning a new homework assignment. • 8. Oz Character Analysis Of Oz Dorothy lives in a place that many people would be loath to call home. The Kansas prairie is vast and monochromatic, with dangerous cyclones and an absence of color and beauty. It turns the once pretty and young Aunt Em into an old, dour woman before her time. Oz, by contrast, is stunningly gorgeous and fantastical. It is peopled with strange folk, a marvelous emerald city, verdant fields of flowers and miles of healthy farmland, deep forests, and adventures galore. Most of its inhabitants are cheerful, helpful, and virtuous. It seems strange that Dorothy would want to leave this land for her home. However, the importance of realizing the significance of one s roots prevails. Dorothy never questions her return. She is from Kansas, her guardians are there, and she has duties to fulfill. She finds much to love about Oz but knows it is not where she belongs. This is an understandable mindset for a child no matter how fascinating or exotic a place, it is always more comforting to be in a familiar setting. Baum understood his intended audience well. Childhood Although she is portrayed as a 16 year old in the film, Dorothy is most assuredly a child in the novel. W.W. Denslow s charming illustrations reveal her to be a wide eyed, spirited little girl. Dorothy is the quintessential child heroine, for she is unassuming, open minded, simple, and frank. • 9. How Does Radish Grow Under Green Light Discussion: In the end, my data only partially supported my hypothesis. There was indeed a statistically highly significant difference in plant height between radish height under red vs blue grow lights as well as a statistically highly significant difference between radish height under green vs blue lights. However, my data showed no statistical difference in plant height between radishes grown under green vs red lights. This being said, my hypothesis was still technically correct because there was a difference between the height in plants grown under different colored lights. Surprisingly, the second part of my hypothesis was incorrect about the relationship between radish plant height and radish plant mass. I had predicted a strong correlation, but there turned out to be no statistically significant correlation between plant height and plant mass. There was actually an almost Simpson s Paradox (almost because the data is not actually split) between plant height and weight when grown under red light and plant height and weight when grown under green light. The red light seemed to be better for plant growth originally because the mean plant height for red was higher than that of green, however when you look at plant mass instead of height, green in the clear victor. This result was so surprising that I did more research to figure out why it was the case. It turns out that radishes actually grow up (grow their stalks taller) instead of out (expanding their leaf area) when they are light deprived. The reason why the red ... • 10. Psychological Problems And Development Of Childhood... Introduction The developmental psychopathology approach is the study of psychological problems and complexities in human development. It focuses on the atypical development of childhood through to adult life. According to Sroufe and Rutter (1984) it focuses on individual patterns of adaptation and maladaptation throughout development. This approach is designed to prevent behavioural and emotional differences within development, whilst positively reinforcing the idea of typical development. Cases of atypical development can include ADHD, eating disorders, anxiety and many other developmental disorders that differ from the developmental population norm. According to Ciccheti (1984) developmental psychopathology must draw upon the results of many different areas of research: in particular, general developmental psychology, traditional academic psychology, and also the clinical sciences of psychiatry and clinical psychology (p.1) This implies that to find the link between typical and atypical behaviour, researchers must draw upon the social, biological and psychological aspects of a persons life. Cummings et al (2003) believed that developmental psychopathology is best defined by its primary goal; achieving a science that could unravel the dynamic process relations underlying pathways of normal development and the development of psychopathology (p.17) From this it is assumed that this approach aims to expand the knowledge of developmental disorders that affect the typical ... • 12. The Magnicent Earth s Surface One other aspect of the magnificent earth is the surface itself. The layers of the Earth are very different in their composition. The crust, mantle, and core of the earth are all very fascinating. Also, a theory called plate tectonics attempts to explain many phenomena that occur on the surface of the earth, such as earthquakes. Some properties of the earth s surface are its layers, the plate tectonics theory, and earthquakes. The layers of the earth are very complex. These layers are the crust, mantle, and core (Wile 132). The core is divided into two regions: the inner core and the outer core (Wile 131). Earth s crust is defined as Earth s outermost layer of rock (Wile 132). The thickness of the crust averages 55 to 12 miles (Wile 132). In addition to rock, the crust of the earth contains soil and sediment (Wile 132). Sediment is defined as small, solid fragments of rock and other materials that are carried and deposited by wind, water, or ice (Wile 132). Sedimentary rock is also found on the earth s crust. Sedimentary rock is rock formed when chemical reactions cement sediments together, hardening them (Wile 133). Igneous rock, rock that forms from molten rock , is also found in the crust (Wile 133). Melted rock that cools and re solidifies becomes igneous rock (Wile 133). The last kind of rock in the crust is called meromorphic rock (Wile 133). However, without wolves in Yellowstone, elk could just stay there and so they would eat until all of the vegetation was gone. In addition, when nothing was left, they would move to a new area. Therefore, the landscape became very flat and very barren because nothing was there. Because the elk ate the vegetation, many animals were losing out on being able to eat as well because the elk were growing in number. Our culture helps us identify who we are and where we come from. In today s world, it appears that cultural diffusion has become a normal part of everyone s life as cultural trends, beliefs and customs spread quickly from one culture to another. In his poem, Coca Cola and Coco Frio, Martin Espada provides his readers with a great example of cultural diffusion that a boy encounters when he visits his native country, Puerto Rico. The fat boy mentioned in the poem is none other than Martin Espada himself (3). By sharing his childhood experience in Puerto Rico, Espada tries to prove that acceptance of other cultures can have a negative impact as people incline to neglect their own cultural values and begin to bear a resemblance to other countries. As a child, Espada travelled from Brooklyn, New York to his homeland, Puerto Rico to visit his family for the first time. During his visit, Espada fears that Puerto Rican culture is vanishing and threatened by American values imposed on them due to the presence of American corporate powers. It is known that Puerto Rican culture is a mix of many cultures and is strongly influenced by Taino Indians, America, Africa and Spain ( Culture and Traditions in Puerto Rico ). Sometimes, the intensity of stress causes anxiety or frustration. Which is why for the most part, stress is taken as a negative impact on an individual. Whether that stress comes from school, money, environment, work or all of them, everyone walks the same path of stress sometimes without even realizing it. Although many people perceive stress in a negative way, there s some surprising benefits of stress that we are not aware of. It all comes down to the basic element of what stress is. Stress is an anticipated feeling someone gets when they get into any trouble or difficulty. The human body reacts physically to any stressor that comes across. For example, our body has two important systems that play a role sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic system. The parasympathetic system is known as a rest and digest response in which hormones send adrenaline and other transmitters to your body. On the other hand, the sympathetic nervous system is known as a fight or flight response in which it uses that adrenaline in order to react quickly. Therefore, both these symptoms react to any stressor that can prepare the human body for anything that might come across, physically and mentally. (Grant n.p.) Stress can benefit us in many ways. It is in the fourth chapter, entitled The Awakening, in which Siddhartha decides he must seek a new solution to satisfy his spiritual hunger; here, Hesse s use of the interlude chapter signals this transition in Siddhartha s quest. Each of the interludes sums up the previous three chapters while setting the stage for the next three. They enable Hesse to develop two major characteristics of novel, transition and foreshadowing. Hesse s next method of development is through the use of symbolism. A reoccurring smile appears at various times throughout his novel. The smile represents fulfillment, as exhibited when Siddhartha discovers his true self. This symbol also serves as the visual manifestation of the inner achievement (Hesse: A Study in Theme and Structure 171). Unfortunately, those things are not necessarily the makings of what truly embodies the Rastafari culture. First of all, Rastafari is not a cult. According to www.merriam webster.com, a cult is 1.) A formal religious veneration. and 2.) A system of religious beliefs and ritual. If someone were to say that Rastafarianism is a cult based on the first definition, then the same assumption would therefore have to be made across the board about all organized religions. Secondly, and perhaps even more importantly than the first definition, Rastafari is not a religion. It is a spiritual livity. The emergence of the West began with the Renaissance in the late 14th century. WTWA mentioned the Ming harkened back to Han Chinese traditions and the Ottomans looked to Sunni Islam to point the way forward, so European elites looked to their own traditions for guidance as they rebuilt after the devastation of the plague (WTWA 402). Supporting QOS in 4G networks will be a major challenge. When considering QOS, the major hurdles to overcome in 4G include: varying rate channel characteristics, bandwidth allocations, fault tolerance levels, and handoff support among heterogeneous wireless networks. Fortunately, QOS support can occur at the packet, transaction, circuit, and network levels. QOS will be able to be tweaked at these different operating levels, making the network more flexible and possibly more tolerant to QOS issues. In this paper, I am going to argue that Tenrikyo is one of the fastest growing religions in the world due to its rapid expansion that leads to an emerging new religion but does not interfere with other religions at the same time. Tenrikyo is based on a religion established by a Japanese lady named Nakayama Miki during the 19th century. Tenrikyo is a monotheistic religion that followers believe in the existence of this one particular God, as known as God the Parent. It was said that Nakayama Miki had received a calling by god, sent her to save all mankind from sufferings because god is the creator of mankind and it is his job to make sure that we are all in a joyous state. God showed great mercy towards mankind, he came down and revealed himself as Nakayama Miki, taking her as mediatrix and his elected shrine. Ruled by darius and then xerxes it was considered the ceremonial capital of Persia. The establishment of this capital further aided the Persians in ceremonies, trade and most importantly gained respect of other countries in battle. Persepolis was the example of par excellence of the dynasty. The first reason, which highlighted the importance, was the ceremonies. Celebrations varied in sizes and all had different reasons. The most important ceremony that was celebrated is the event Nowruz . Nowruz meaning new day, was the name of the Iranian New Year. This ceremony created a majestic atmosphere for the Persians. This event celebrated the first day of spring or Equinox at the beginning of the year in the Persian calendar. Nowruz is about the only tradition to not resolve around a religious group. The establishment of Persepolis gave the Persians the opportunity to celebrate as a whole. The second reason that highlighted the importance of the establishment of Persepolis was the trade. The Achaemenid Empire was rich and luxurious. An example of trade in Persepolis included darius revolutionising it by placing it on a silver and gold coinage system and the popular trade items included orange, Shaw and turquoise. By establishing Persepolis it enhanced trade in the Achaemenid Empire. The final reason that highlights the importance of the establishment of Persepolis was their success in battle. Darius and xerxes were highly successful in battle and there are still structures that depict the sister countries giving the kings gifts. Some of these included lions from the elamites, brahma bull from the Babylonians and even cloth from the Lydian bolts. It is estimated that over half of all countries are multilingual. An example of a multilingual society is Switzerland with three main languages: French, German and Italian and each language is dominant area of its own. John Edwards believes that everyone is bilingual, even if someone can only speak or understand, he believes that you have some command of a foreign tongue therefore there is no clear monolingual country. Therefore multilingualism is useful in showing how the social interaction between people of different languages help us predict the linguistic results of language contact as it is an example of what happens when multiple languages exist and interact in the same country. In multilingual countries, diglossia occurs, which is the result of language contact and social interaction. This therefore helps shows how the patterns of social interaction between speakers of different languages predict results of language contact as diglossia is a result of this and display the countries multilingualism. Toni s writing style is often epic, rhythmic, leaving the reader breathless and holding him or her spellbound.
