Abiotic and biotic factors are extremely important factors for our environment. The presence of these
factors could provide for a peaceful and healthy environment and the disappearance of these factors
could wreak havoc on an environment. Abiotic factors focus more on the physical aspects of an
environment and biotic focuses more on biological.

Abiotic refers to something physical rather than biological. Abiotic factors can determine which
species of organisms will survive in any given environment. This factor is important because they
affect how organisms survive. The abiotic factor can be placed into categories of meteorology, soil, air
pollution, micro topographic features, water availability, and water quality. Chemical and geological
factors, such as rocks and minerals, and physical factors, such as temperature, weather, and lay of the
land, are also referred to as abiotic components.
Biotic factors are the living parts of an ecosystem, such as the animals, plants, and microorganisms. A

For this assignment, I intend to evaluate the Level 2 Diploma in bricklaying as it is my own specialist
area. I will be discussing the theories and models of curriculum, influences on the design, evaluation
and quality assurance systems. I will also evaluate the level 2 Diploma and discuss proposals for
improvement. I currently teach at a HMP Moorland where I permanently deliver the bricklaying
diploma alongside my colleague.

Such activities are embedded into the theory sessions and portfolios (unit 2002 in the bricklaying
Diploma), but emphasis and reinforcement in the workshop will help learners improve their mental
skills. Such activities in the classroom would include working with measurements, calculating areas
and adding and subtracting measurements. In the workshop, basic calculating of materials would be
required and using trigonometry and Pythagoras theorem to find angles and lengths. Correct
terminology will be emphasised so that learners will understand terminology and start to use it in their
specialist subject which would help learners if they need to communicate with building suppliers or
work colleagues. This is beyond the curriculum requirements and moves into the hidden curriculum as
the learners are learning through their experiences rather than the educational objectives.

Buddhism is the largest religioncultural influence in its own way. Buddhism is becoming popular and
well known in the western parts of the world. Hinduism and Buddhism share the same teaching of
karma.They both teach about the cause and effect that karma leaves on one s life. Buddhism s main
goal is to find enlightment. Siddhartha Gautama is the founder of Buddhism. He was born around 600
B.C. to a powerful family in India. He had a comfortable homewith very little experience of the
outside world. He was sheild from many outside influences such as pain, religion and suffering. He
discovered enlightment in the middle way. He discovered the Four Noble Truths : to live is to suffer
(Dukha), suffering is caused by desire (Tanha, or attachment), one can eliminate suffering by
eliminating all attachments. This is attained by following the noble eightfold path. The eightfold path
consists of having a right view, speech, action, livelihood, effort , and mindfulness. The individual
teachings are common to Hinduism. karma, Maya, and a tendency to understand reality as being
pantheistic in its placment. Buddhism today is real diverse. It is divided into the two broad categories
Of Theravada and Mahayana. Theravada is a form which reserves ultimate enlightenment and nirvana.

Life of Pi Yann Martel
Life of Pi reflects many of the themes we discussed this week. For the sake of wordcount, I m going to

The most evident similarity between Life of Pi and early Romanticism is the speaker s connection to
nature. Wordsworth and Coleridge are primarily enamored by nature at a macro level. In Tintern
Abbey, Wordsworth writes The day is come when I again repose / Here, under this dark sycamore, and
view / These plots of cottage ground, these orchard tufts (9 11), displaying his affinity for looking out
at the grandness of nature. Raised at a zoo, Pi s specific knowledge and deep connection to the animal
world is more akin to Charlotte Smith s botanical approach to native species in Beachy Head. That
said, Pi s love for nature is great and comparable to each piece we read this week.
While we didn t discuss it explicitly, I believe that Beachy Head introduces the sublime. The sheer
enormity of Beachy Head places it in the category of violent beauty. Reading even the first line of the
poem, On thy stupendous summit, rock sublime! (1), makes clear the awe inspiring nature of the cliff.
Alone at sea (with a Bengal tiger, no less), the sublime overwhelms Pi. Richard Parker, the tiger, is a
magnificent creature, but deadly, and the ocean is beautiful and terrifying in it s own right. The movie
portrays this well with stunning cinematography, displaying Pi s profound solitude on vast expanses of
sea and sky.
On a philosophical level, Life of Pi is about Pi Patel s relationship with religion. Pi is raised Hindu but
chooses to practice Catholicism and Islam as well. The book opens by telling us that Pi s is a story that
will make you believe in God (Martell 2012 x). Pi is devout in his beliefs about three religions, and
about nature and goodness. Like Wordsworth and Coleridge, Pi s faith is strong but separate from
traditional organized religion. Pi s beliefs are similar to Coleridge s one life (mentioned in The Eolian
Harp (24 25), a belief that all beings are connected spiritually through God. This is seen as Pi

Do you agree with the view that in the years 1515 1525 Henry VIII wholly surrendered power in
government to Cardinal Wolsey?
To a certain extent within Source 4 (by J.J. Scarisbrick 1968) supports the idea that possibly Henry
VIII actually did surrender power over to Wolsey. The evidence within the source that suggests this
possibly for being the truth is a self indulgent King had wholly surrendered the cares of the state into
the Cardinals hands . To further support this case, it is clear that Wolsey was extremely powerful, he
had vast amounts of bishoprics (Archbishop of Canterbury, Tournai, Durham just to name a few) and

However, Source 5 written in 1994 by John Lotherington, appears to disagree with that of the view of
source 4. In parts it appears to actually agree with source 4, Wolsey held a dominant position in
government and controlled the distribution of patronage but then the source continues to say, And of
course the ultimate source of all power was the King . This quote can be proven true with examples of
Henry preventing Wolsey from doing something, such as in 1523 when Wolsey launched a sea attack
upon the French without the kings permission, this led to Wolsey having to apologize for his actions.
This shows that Henry still had control over Wolsey and that he couldn t get away with something so
easily. Also even though source 4 claims that Wolsey had very strong control, that even with this
power he couldn t prevent such things like The Amicable Grant of 1525 from being a disaster, and
without aids from The Dukes of Norfolk and Suffolk it could have been an even more disastrous, this
proves Henry was more in control than Wolsey because the Dukes only subdued the rebellions on
Henry s behalf, not Wolsey s. This is showing how Henry had not wholly surrendered his government
power, and could still contest Wolsey s decisions and problems. The source was also written in 1994,
therefore the historians view is likely to be more factual rather than written in the period and being

In the short story of Boiling Water , three metaphors comparing life s struggles to a potato, egg, and
coffee beans are introduced. Each one of these foods was placed into a pot of boiling water. However,
the outcome of the three foods was different. The potato came out soft and weak while the egg came
out hard and strong. The coffee beans came out as something different. The different ways the food

Emily Dickinson is considered a powerful and persistent pre modernist poet in American culture.
Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts on the family
homestead ( Emily Dickinson ). Her mother and father were Emily and Edward Dickinson: she had a
sister, Lavinia Dickinson, and a brother, William Austin Dickinson. Dickinson began attending
Amherst Academy with her sister in 1840 and graduated in 1847. After graduating, she began Mount

Oedipus s anger highlights one of his tragic flaws. Oedipus first outburst of anger was when he killed

West Nile Encephalitis is a West Nile Virus that causes inflammation of the brain. The viral family s
name is flaviviridae and genera flavivirus (Tortora. Funke. Case, 2010, p 376). The flavivirus genome
consists of positive RNA single strand. However, the virus has acquired several mutations and
research is ongoing (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2010 p 223). West Nile virus is an arthropod borne virus
and is transmitted to human beings through the bite of infected mosquitoes. It is the leading cause of
domestically acquired arthropod borne disease in the United States. (Nicole, 2014 para.1). According
to the World Health Organization (2011), Approximately 80% of people who are infected will not
show any symptoms. However, less than 1% of the people who are infected will show severe
symptoms resulting to a serious neurological illness like encephalitis. (Center for Disease Control
(2015) West Nile Virus was first isolated in West Nile District of Uganda in 1937. In 1950 s, there was
an outbreak of West Nile Virus in Egypt and Israel. (Tortora, Funke. Case, 2010, p 223) About 50% of
children in Egypt have West Nile Virus. It is also common in the Middle East, where some suggest
that Alexander the Great died from WNE. Moreover, its effect is also in Asia and Africa. The first case

Secondly, for student athletes who practice a sport and attend classes, it is often difficult to complete
both tasks. Many students begin to show less motivation making it harder to stay focus and attend
their required classes. This is the case of student athlete Cardale Jones, a quarterback for the
University of Ohio. After taking his sociology final exam, he commented that coming to class was
pointless when his only responsibility was to play football for the university (Tracy 1). Student
athletes start to show poor academic achievement when they consume a lot of time in their sports and
often forget about their role of being a student. For instance, when students are not able to complete
their school assignments during the day they decide to study late and do not sleep the necessary hours
they need in order for their bodies to function and their brains to focus. In this case, the poor
achievement in students is notable because they do not perform well in school and do not have a good
nutrition. They often do not have time to eat the required three meals a day that their bodies need. The
poor academic achievement is often noticeable when many coaches begin to tell their athletes that
