Southwest Asia Research Paper
Qatar the Tiny Giant of Southwest Asia
Southwest Asia is a region of conflict; many of the countries maintain power through military
superiority and dominance. Many governments and regimes have risen to power but only to collapse
due to the constant conflict in the region. This is why it has been important for governments and
regimes to maintain a strong military to keep order in the region. However, one small country, Qatar
does not maintain dominance through military superiority. Despite being one of the smallest countries
and having a minimal military Qatar has become a major influence and power though means of
economic and political influence in Southwest Asia. When most countries believed to be a dominant

Qatar for being unexpected power is able to maintain a strong economy in a region that most countries
ether thrive or struggle. In 2014 the export economy was ranked 35th largest in the world, and 60th for
complexity according to the Economic Complexity Index (ECI). The reported exported goods was
$125B and $32.8B imported, creating a positive trade balance. Resulting in 2014 gross domestic
product (GDP) totaling $210B and the per capita GDP was $140k. The top exports for Qatar are
Petroleum Gas, Crude Petroleum, Refined Petroleum, Ethylene Polymers and Nitrogenous Fertilizers.
(Qatar Economy, n.d.) The export of oil and gas can account for approximately 85 percent of the
countries export revenues. The proven oil reserves are in excess of 25 billion barrels, and the natural
gas reserves are third largest in the world. Qatar s banking remains competitive and amended laws for
investment to attract more foreign investment. (Qatar 2016, n.d.) Having a strong economy and
abundance of high demand resource has helped with Qatar making allies and having an influence in
the Southwest Asia region. Qatar has made many political allies that help the country with keeping its
boarders and also keeping order in its boarders. Many of these allies are accepted and common allies
in the region but there are some speculated allies that cause controversies. However delicate it may be

Comparison Of Joseph Stalin And Prague Spring
Glasnost, Joseph Stalin and Prague Spring were influential in bringing or attempting to bring
transformation to Russian society. Some attempts were more successful and unopposed then others.
When establishing transformation of a long standing ideal, it is not always accepted with open arms.
Joseph Stalin was betrayed by Nazi Germany, which in turn created an air of mistrust the government
foreign or otherwise, as well as maintains a chokehold on his country. The consequences of his
mistrust were establishing a brutal regime that wanted to continue the status quo. A new change could
only result by the passage of time and simply letting the old guard die off before new ideas were
reintroduced to Russia. Joseph Stalin (1878 1953) was the dictator of the Union of Soviet Socialist
Republics (USSR) from 1929 to 1953. Under Stalin, the Soviet Union was transformed from a peasant
society into an industrial and military superpower. However, he ruled by terror, and millions of his
own citizens died during his brutal reign. Stalin created a new Russian society but along the way he
was betrayed forcing him to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The question is now how will the old regime react. Prague Spring of 1968 is the term used for the
brief period of time when the government of Czechoslovakia led by Alexander Dubček seemingly
wanted to democratise the nation and lessen the stranglehold Moscow had on the nation s affairs. The
Prague Spring ended with a Soviet invasion, the removal of Alexander Dubček as party leader and an
end to reform within Czechoslovakia. Testing the waters for possible transformation of old ideas did
not fair well for the Czechoslovakia dissidents. Yet this did not stop the need for the citizens of Russia
to want change, if would simply meant waiting for the right time to let change reintroduce itself to a

Elizabeth I And Later The English Monarchs Essay
Elizabeth 1
To the best of my understanding Elizabeth I and later the English Monarchs with regard to religious
uniformity, believed in, and were in search of a religious settlement that would bring peace for all the
people. You could draw the conclusion that this very Act of Uniformity proclaimed by Elizabeth I in
1559 which was actually made up of two separate acts of Parliament, have in part created the religious
freedoms we enjoy today. My thesis would be that this religious uniformity would shape a lot of
things that would come to pass later on in life, as Elizabeth I ideas and beliefs would set a tone that
would shape religion and the beliefs on how to worship that still go on this this current day. One of
The act of Supremacy and the act of uniformity, the act of Supremacy re established England s
independence from Rome, while the act of uniformity established a set form of worship and made
church attendance on Sundays and holy days something that was obligatory. This very act would go
on to shape some of the laws, and a lot of the thinking behind the way things are still done to this very
day. Some of the laws are influence by the act of uniformity... In this time period different religious
beliefs were being questioned and shaped, and the act of uniformity was designed to create order so
that all the different religious groups could follow a unified religious belief. Elizabeth I ultimate goal
was to create and build a stable, peaceful nation

Bribing Corrupt Bureaucrats Might Not Be a Terrible Idea...
This is an excellent way to show that as a human race we are constantly looking for a mode of
perfection but that mode is never there because we can never find it. What we can do is to get as close
as possible to the ideal situation. This ideal situation should mean that there is some form of Pareto
efficiency in the system and most people stand to benefit. If the value system allows for the existence
of some classes to gain more than others this will create inequality. In such a case the government will
always try to change policies to make the shift. But then the problem is that sooner of later another
class will prevail of the current ruling classes will continue to hold some positions of power that will
allow them to keep their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exposition of the IT is also a contributor towards this. The Gandhian morality of not showcasing
your wealth no longer holds true when a certain business man in Mumbai builds a 27 storied building
for a family of 5. The economic prowess of the nation is hence showcased by such successful
entrepreneurs. The height of the positives of economic reforms took place when India can acheievd a
growth rate of 9% in 2007 . Today India is known as among the 10 largest economies of the world.
But having stated all this, it needed to note that India still stands poorly in world social parameters. We
still are amongst the pooter nations of the world. Poverty ranks are still high. We are one of the most
corrupt nations in the world and indexes do not rank us well. Socially our parameter are not high. This
will sooner or later reflect upon our economics as well. This will be demonstrated in the rest of the
essay. Corruption is considered bad and after the several scams that have hit India over the apst 4 5
years we have clearly not changed things. But there are studies that suggest otherwise.
The 2005 paper suggests that bribing bureaucrats might not be such a bad idea. This is because the
corrupt bureaucrats can force the government into talking helpful measures. The need for these
measures might be a result of the demands from the bribers who expects some changes from the
corrupt bureaucrats. The economy could benefit

When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her...
When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her performance art can be both shocking and hold
the attention of one. Her work ranges in physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness. Marina
Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and great courage.
Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In my opinion, I feel
Marina Abramovic and my main goal as an artist is not only to completely change the way art is seen
by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art. Marina Abramovic was born in
Belgrade, Capital of Yugoslavia on November 30, 1946. Many people asked her where she is from,
she replied I came from a country that no longer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Space was involved in the performance as well. A table and two wooden chairs created a great amount
of space in a big room. Until Abramovic decides to take the table away, interacting with the audience.
No movement emotions was made from her. On the other hand, the audience showed all kinds of
emotions. Or by teasing her to see if she would lose concentration. There was no sound at all, but
there is a great impact by her eyes locked to whoever sat opposite of her. Marina Abramovic uses no
material. She finds it important to make her performance last long lengths for the spiritual and
transformative properties Abramovic believes the longer the performance can get the more
transcendental it gets (History). She also believed the longer you stay the more energy is invested
from both she and the audience. Marina Abramovic has put her body in dangerous and close fatal
situations, by cuts and mutilation. To test her physical limits. She goes through a process training to
prepare her for her performance. She prepared six months before the performance, she became a
vegetarian. Only ate at certain times because of digestion. Very strict diet with very light food and
only eating in the morning very certain things. She never went to the bathroom. She trained by

The Practice Of Paying Bonus
The practice of paying bonus in India appears to have originated during First World War when certain
textile mills granted 10% of wages as war bonus to their workers in 1917. In certain cases of industrial
disputes demand for payment of bonus was also included. In 1950, the Full Bench of the Labour
Appellate evolved a formula for determination of bonus. A plea was made to raise that formula in
1959. At the second and third meetings of the Eighteenth Session of Standing Labour Committee (G.
O.I.) held in New Delhi in March/April 1960, it was agreed that a Commission be appointed to go into
the question of bonus and evolve suitable norms. A Tripartite Commission was set up by the
Government of India to consider in a comprehensive manner, the question of payment of bonus based
on profits to employees employed in establishments and to make recommendations to the
Government. The Government of India accepted the recommendations of the Commission subject to
certain modifications. To implement these recommendations the Payment of Bonus Ordinance, 1965
was promulgated on 29th May, 1965. To replace the said Ordinance the Payment of Bonus Bill was
introduced in the Parliament.
Statement of Objective and Reasons
A Tripartite Commission was set by the Government of India by their resolution No.WB 20(9)/61,

The Art And Science Of Professional Nursing Practice
The Art and Science of Professional Nursing Practice Frequently, nurses are considered the foundation
of the healthcare industry and the stakes are high when certain qualities must be possessed when
working with patients and providing quality care. Nurses have a profound ability to apply strong skill
based knowledge with a caring and compassionate attitude that can improve patient outcomes. They
also play an important role that can positively or negatively affect the way patients and family
members view healthcare as a whole. Professional nursing practice is an art and science when both
elements are integrated together to form a unique way of practice, but what does that really mean? The
purpose of this paper is to define nursing as an art and science and explain how these two concepts
come together to form an extraordinary way to perform professional nursing practice that contributes
to the well being of the patient. Nursing as a Science Over the years there have been vast changes in
healthcare that require nurses to go above and beyond in their level of expertise in technology and
scientific knowledge (Palos, 2014). Nurses have to evolve with those changes, therefore they must
utilize educational tools and develop skills to stay current with the advancements that hospitals require
for practice (Palos, 2014). Palos (2014) also found that nurses have a responsibility to use their critical
thinking skills, make sound clinical judgments, and apply evidence based nursing

Analysis Of The Storm By Katie Chopin
Hugh Mackay said, Nothing is perfect. Life is messy. Relationships are complex. Outcomes are
uncertain. People are irrational. In The Storm by Katie Chopin, she develops a parallel between a
storm and an emotional storm in a woman s life. She used signs that described the feelings of a
relationship that are unpredictable like the storm. They both are married and according to the incident
that occurred, they may not be happy in their marriage. In A Sick Rose , by William Blake, it talks
about how dark secrets can destroy ones love life. Like when a rose does not get enough water or sun,
it dies. This poem can be interpreted in many ways based on the reader s interpretation.
Katie Chopin wrote a short story that takes place in Louisiana,

Wallace Stevens The Evolution Of A Wolf
In a pack of wolves, there will always be one alpha wolf. This would be the so called leader of the
pack. The leader of the pack has the most influence. Society works in a similar way. In America we
elect the president that has the most influence in the country. As in the pack of wolves, leaders tend to
have a special something which makes people gravitate towards them. Wallace Stevens mentions the
same leader: I placed a jar in Tennessee/and round it was around that hill. (Stevens 1 2). A jar is not a
star figure which everyone would gravitate to. Even so it is a simple plain object. However Stevens
does say that He places the jar. This could imply that someone else placed the jar on top of the Hill.
This person probably put a jar in the

Constructivism Essay
Empiricists and rationalists have proposed opposing theories of the acquisition of knowledge, which
appear unable to coexist. Each theory holds its own strengths but does not demonstrate a strong
argument in itself to the questions, Is knowledge truly possible? and How is true knowledge obtained?
. Immanual Kant successfully merged the two philosophies and provided a convincing argument with
his theory of empirical relativism, or what some may call constructivism. His theory bridges the gap
between rationalism and empiricism and proves that empiricists and rationalists each present a piece
of the full puzzle. In order to truly understand Kant s epistemology, one must first review and
understand both empiricism and rationalism on an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This initiates the principle of induction, which is the assumption that the future will be like the past.
An example of this would be every time smoke is seen, one will inevitably look for the fire that is
causing the smoke. This is because based on previous experiences, it is known to be true that fire
causes smoke. One notable problem with pure empiricism is that it does rely upon reasoning. If the
concept of causality is true, there must be some form of reasoning to be able to relate one action to a
reaction. Hume s principle of induction assumes that one experience will be similar to a previous
experience under similar circumstances. It takes a measure of reasoning to assume that the previous
experience of dropping a glass would result in the same consequence when dropping a vase. To
account for this, Hume believes that reason draws connections between concepts in the mind, but it
cannot form connections between those ideas in the external world (Lawhead, 2010). Hume divided
reasoning into 2 categories: namely, relations of ideas and matters of fact. This dichotomy between
relations of ideas (which are logically necessary, but tell us nothing about the world), and matters of
fact (which tell us about the world, but which are not certain), is often called Hume s fork (Lawhead,
2011, p. 108).
Rationalism
In contrast to empiricism, rationalists claim that knowledge is gained from reasoning. It is through
reason that the

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Mekong...
As you most likely know, the Mekong river is quite essential to human and animal life in its river
basin. There are more than a few ways that us humans are dependent on the Mekong river. Some of
these are food, water and increasingly, electricity. All of the previously mentioned needs seem
important but one clashes with the others. Hydropower is à renewable energy source which is rising in
popularity. Since hydropower is à renewable energy source it is not believed to be harmful to the
environment. According to an expert on the topic, Professor Philip Hirsch, Hydropower is Laos
gateway to getting rich. As stated by Xaypaseuth Phomsoupha, building these dams helps with
providing à better life for the Lao population. But the disadvantages ... Show more content on

When the flow and force of à river is switched, sediment is blocked. This sediment plays à key role in
agriculture around the mekong river. Sediment is important in farming as it adds nutrients to the soil
and protects the mainland from being eroded by salt water from the sea. As salinity rates are
increasing because of the excessive dams along this river, the plants grown here are changing as
mentioned in an Al Jazeera English video on youtube. There is another natural force that is unsettled
by damming on the Mekong. This is the fish migrations as the dams block the migrating fish, many of
which are only found in this river. Four out of ten of the world s greatest freshwater fish are found in
the Mekong river, these are being threatened by dams directly as the fish that they consume are being
stopped from migrating and therefore they have à lower chance of getting their needed amount of
nutrition. This also directly affects us humans as mentioned earlier. Around 2.1 million tonnes of fish
are found on the Mekong river, these feed close to 60 million people. Approximately 600 species of
fish on the Mekong river are migratory, these make up about 70% of the fish catch. When these fish
are blocked, the amount of fish caught are much

The Constitution Of The Texas Constitution
Bigger is not always better, in the case of the Texas Constitution having the second longest state
Constitution and the fourth most amended Constitution in the United States, makes it a difficult and
complicated document. The Texas Constitution has been rewritten a total of six times since becoming
independent from Mexico. The most recent being the Constitution of 1876, which is excessively
detailed and exact due to the framers fear of a strong state government. The framers of the constitution
placed strategically in the body of the Constitution rules restricting the government s power. Making it
inconvenient and difficult to reform the current Texas Constitution.
There are four key functions of a Constitution. One function is stating the source of power and
authority for legitimate state political institutions. Also in a state Constitution is the delegation of
power, which explains how powers are granted and used by institutions and individuals. Another
function is to prevent the concentration of political power, by supplying political mechanism such as
checks and balances. Lastly, a Constitution explains the limits of political power.
The general basic of a state constitution is somewhat reflected in the current Texas Constitution. The
framers of the Constitution of 1876 called for a strong popular control of the state government, public
officials would be elected by the people. When it comes to the limits of political power the Texas
Constitution passionately limits the

Donald Trump s Campaign Against Hillary Clinton
Donald Trump has run a very long and very hard fought campaign against his opponent Hillary
Clinton. His closing acceptance speech has shown us how much his character has drastically changed
in contrast to how he ran his entire campaign. Throughout his campaign to become president Donald
Trump degraded women, bashed the disabled, and had plans to build walls to keep families from being
together. He seems to be everything we didn t need for our next president and now shockingly enough
in his winning acceptance speech he has become a whole new man, thanking and congratulating the
Clinton campaign and posing as a humble acceptor of his new presidential title. As Donald Trump
thanked and congratulated the Clinton campaign after winning the 2016 presidential election we saw a
remarkable change in his character. This sudden shift raises the concern of many Americans
wondering why he has suddenly changed his plans for his presidential reign versus how he ran his
campaign. Donald Trump s campaign was thought of as a joke all the way up until he was actually
elected as our next president of the United States of America. People even went so far as to vote for

Careful measurements were taken including the lateral plate, pelvic girdle expression, and body depth

Second tendon problem that occurs invariably with athletic activity, especially when starting is
tendinosis.
It has to do simply with normal growth of tendons in the body, when they are subjected to increased
loads.
A normal process, but nonetheless painful.
How is that?
Think about growing pains in children.
If you have children or younger brothers and sisters, you know they all complain from pain, usually in
the lower extremities, during maximal growth, especially during early adolescence.
Tendons subjected to bigger loads than usual, grow in a similar way.
How does this problem manifest itself?
Deep pain, or discomfort in tendons or fasciae (Flat tendon structures).
Painful limitation of movements even is frequently associated.
So if such pain occurs after you increased tremendously your maximal load, then you don t need to
bother!
It s normal.
Sometimes, it lasts for one whole year or even 18 months.

The law delivers the structure for social work with children and families, through a basis of duties and
powers that reinforce and deliver protective actions when necessary (Wilson et al, 2011). The Children
Act 1989 was to provide every child with the right to be safeguarded from mistreatment and the right
for investigations to take place to protect their well being. Its vital principle was that, for children, it is
more beneficial for them to be looked after within their own family if possible (Parliament, 1989). The
act did not come into force in England and Wales until 1991 although it was given royal accent in
1989. It is comprehensive and incorporates virtually all the law relating to children. The Act
introduced new principles, powers and duties on local authorities. Following the statutory guidance in
Working Together under the Children Act 1989 (Department of Health, Home Office and Department
for Education and Skills, 1999) the Child Protection Register was designed. It was a documentation of
all children in each area for whom there were unresolved child protection matters. The aim of the child
protection register was to enable agencies and professionals to be aware of those children who are
judged to be at continuing risk of Significant Harm (Department of Health, Home Office and

2006), it is responsible for more 84,600 deaths in England in 2009, including 26.4 per 100,000 under
the age of 75. Age is important as the target for reduction in mortality from CHD, stroke and related
disorders of 40% of the year 2010, established in Saving Lives: Our Healthier Nation (DoH 1999),

obesity, although several other factors are known to contribute to the development of CHD. Smoking
has long been known to be a factor in the development of CHD. According to Smeltzer and Bare

stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system, causing vasoconstriction. In addition, it raises the
chances of clot formation by increasing the aggregation of platelets. Campbell (2006) suggests that the
toxic components of cigarette smoke damage the endothelial lining of the blood vessels, which may
initiate the development of atherosclerosis. Because carbon dioxide from the cigarette burns readily

China s Nationalism And Isolation From Western Society
For thousands of years China has operated dynastically, in a cyclic mode, causing no forward
movement or linear progress. China s ethnocentrism and isolation from Western society led to internal
disorder. The isochronous nature of the Chinese feudal system eventually led to the demise of the last
dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, in 1911. This vulnerability provided Western influence allowing for
imperialism throughout the country. Students and intellectuals with Westernized educations saw that
the political and social turmoil was attributed to a long history of rejection of anything Western. On
May 4, 1919, students led a revolt, called the May Fourth Movement, against Confucian culture
promoting science, democracy, and anti imperialism. The May Fourth Movement was a period of total
iconoclasm, of complete rejection of past tradition, and of absolute ratification of western ideals
resulting in a literary revolution. By exploring Lu Xun s realist writing style and Yu Dafu s romantic
writing style, the true function of literature during the May Fourth era is revealed.
May Fourth Background: The May Fourth movement occurred as a response to the Chinese
government s poor response to the Treaty of Versailles, known as the Shandong problem. The Treaty
of Versailles took the rights to the Shandong providence, in China, from Germany and gave them to
Japan. When attending the meeting, China came with three requests; first was abolition of all foreign

intellectuals who enjoyed the good life (cite simon hattenstone). Her family was entirely westernised
with her parents owning alcohol, father driving a Cadillac, and eating at the finest places. Her
childhood was filled with more books than toys and she always pleaded with her parents to join them
in the demonstrations against the Shah. Satrapi, adapting the persona of Marji in her book, would even
pretend to be a revolutionary with her friends and march around the garden in front of her house.
Although Satrapi wanted to be a part of the actual demonstrations against the Shah, she never really
knew the real cause of the revolution, unaware of the wrongdoings caused by the government until she
matures later on. Her life was filled with constant violence as the government passed unusual laws to
purge Islam of Western

Case analysis from ego psychology perspectives Essay
Introduction
This paper, divided into two parts, is intended to understand April s case in a thoughtfully eclectic way
from a social work perspective by applying human behavior theories. The first part shows the use of
Ego Psychology to illustrate how loss from April s father s death interrupted her development by
disrupting her ego function. The second part shows the assessment of April s biological,
psychological, and social emotional development, the ecological factors which affected her
development, and the cultural stereotype expectation on normal development.
Question One:
April s arrival was not expected by her mother; this unexpected pregnancy may have caused stress to
the mother (Joy) while she carried April. This was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bowlby pointed out that if children are not given accurate information about a death, they cannot
grieve appropriately. The family did not give April a chance to explore and express her grief over the
loss. These choices would impact her ego function. Since she could not make sense of the situation,
she could not modulate her affect and behavior in order to cope with the pain of loss. She
automatically and unconsciously used one of the most important ego functions defense mechanism to
cope with the trauma. She went into denial, which interfered with her reality testing.
She was told that her father went to heaven, which, to her, meant that he was in a distant place. As
Silverman, Nickman, and Worden (1992) stated, April, as other children typically display, developed
an inner construction of her father that assisted her in coping with her losses and with all of the
ensuing changes in her life. She even developed magic thinking : a fantasy that her father would return
as shown in the picture she drew of her father coming in and out of the house by using the ladder. But
with time passing, the reality of her father s absence becoming increasingly permanent was reinforced.
She could not always hold her sadness and fear as shown through her nightmares, crying, or
screaming. Sometimes, she regressed to earlier developmental stages, as manifested in her toddler like
behavior, for

In absence of overbooking even on flights that were sold out , 15 % of seats would be unfilled. Also ,
numerous number of discounted fares and ever changing fares till the last moment pose a great

It Is A Good Faith Mistake
The fourth amendment is known for its ambiguity, however when taking a deeper look it is also where
the exclusionary rule is derived from. The fourth amendment provides freedom from unreasonable
search and seizure, meaning any evidence obtained violating the exclusionary rule is inadmissible in
court. Unless, it is a good faith mistake. The evolution of the exclusionary rule is important and vital
in providing protection to the people. Protection from the federal government and state officials will
be applied through case law. Additionally, the protection against unreasonable searches and seizure
will narrow its scope in where it can be applied. Specifically, exclusionary rule is limited to criminal
court during the trial fase. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Weeks v. United States (1914) officially establishes the federal exclusionary rule. By
obtaining private materials from the defendant s home through a warrantless arrest and search it led to
weeks conviction. However, the Supreme Court ended a long practice of allowing illegally obtained
evidence into the court room. Thus, when the evidence was dismissed Weeks conviction was dropped.
Almost forty years later in the case Rochin v. California (1952), the exclusionary doctrine is more than
unreasonable searches and seizure. It is that of which shocks the conscience. Which in this case the
defendant was taken to the hospital after ingesting narcotic and then forcibly had them removed from
his stomach with a tube (Wilson, 2016).
Similarly the case Silverthorne Lumber Company v. United States (1920), had materials illegally
seized and photograph. While later government agents used those photographs to try and get a
subpoena for the real ones. Once again the issue is of the compulsory production of private materials
required by the government. The outcome of this establishes protection for corporations from the
government. Maintaining a goal to further suppressed violating the fourth amendment in illegal search
and seizures. This is where fruits of the poisonous tree doctrine first takes its roots in case law. The
goal is not to serve justice for defendants but to prevent illegal conduct by officers (Shenfield, 1972).

Comparing US Democratic Republic, Roman Republic, and...
In the past, different civilizations have been ruled by different forms of government. The U.S.
Democratic Republic, the Roman Republic, and the Athenian Democracy have similar and different
functions of how they run their government.
In the U.S. Democratic Republic, it has all three branches of government which are the legislature,
executive, and the judicial branch. Their legislative branch has a Senate of 100 members and they re
elected by the people for a six year term. The Senates make laws and they advise president on foreign
policy. The executive branch has a president that is elected by the people for four years. The president

Romans had the Twelve Tablets which, were a list of rules that was the basis of the Roman legal
system. The laws in the Twelve Tablets talked about property, crime, family, theft, and inheritance.
In the Athenian Democracy, they had a form of government where citizens ruled directly and not
through representatives. They had a legislature branch that would pass the laws, the executive branch
would carry out the laws, and the judicial branch would conduct the trials with paid jurors. The
executive branch was composed of a council of 500 men and the leaders were chosen by a lot. To be a

Essay about Controlling Corporate Farming
Controlling Corporate Farming
Sixty one percent of America s agriculture output comes from corporate farms (Abbey, 2002).
Nationwide there are 163,000 corporate operations and 63% of these are under contract to a
consolidated firm (Abbey, 2002). Stated by Fred Kirschenmann, If current trends of consolidation
continue, and all the farms in Iowa become 225,000 acre farms, there will be only 140 farms in the
entire state (Abbey, 2002).
Large corporations are coming in and taking over the farming industry. They are making it almost
impossible for small, family operated farms to survive. The six and a half million small farms of 1935
decreased to 575,000 by 1998? (Abbey, 2002). The large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many anti corporate faming laws in place that have been around since about the 1930?s that
were originated in Kansas and North Dakota (McDonough, 2003). These laws are intended to slow
down large corporations coming into small communities and pushing out the small, family operated
farms. North Dakota was the first state, with nine other states right behind it. These states include
North Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin and
Nebraska.
In 1932, North Dakota originated its first anti corporation law. It prohibited any corporation from
farming there. This law seemed to be extreme so it was amended in 1981 stating that there would only
be fifteen or fewer corporate shareholders (www.celdf.org). These laws have inhibited corporate
farming from taking over North Dakota, making it a better place for local agriculture. If these laws
aren?t followed, there are penalties in place to punish the violators with fines up to $25,000.
Kansas passed their anti corporation laws in 1995, which ?prohibited corporations of any kind from
owning or acquiring any agricultural land? (www.celdf.org). There are stockholders that are given
rights to the land and they have to be directly involved with the production of the farm, and this is how
they prevent the corporations from taking

American Born Chinese Theme Essay
When writing a novel, whether it is purposely or unconsciously, every author would create a theme
that would help deliver out the message that they want to send out. Because novels are made of
different situations and experiences, there can be many kinds of themes in it. However, there is usually
a main theme that is consider as the most important theme since it is the main message that the author
wants to send out to readers. Therefore, while readers can choose whichever one of themes as the most
important theme depending on the question and the understanding of the novel, the main theme will
still be the theme that leads the story from the beginning to the ending. In the graphic novel, American

At the beginning, Jin Wang had a hard time fitting in to his school and making friends because to the
other students, he is so different. Throughout his school life Jin Wang never really accepted himself
and always try to change himself to look more like others to gain their favors. One example is when
Jin Wang refused to be friends with Wei Chen and grouped himself with the other students because he
does not want to be associated with someone that is like him when he is trying to be someone different
(38, 1 4). Jin Wang also refused to speak Chinese with Wei Chen because to him, not only because he
is probably more used to speaking in English, but he also believes that speaking in Chinese will
prevent him from assimilating or make others think he isn t trying to assimilate (37 38, 2 10). It was
only after he created the identity as Danny and accepted Danny as his identity, did he managed to
make friends and fit in to his new school and become quite popular in the school (198, 1). Because
Danny accepted himself first, he can make friends despite his differences and fit in just like he hoped
he can. Seeing that Danny can accept himself before he tries to fit in, he managed to truly fit in to his
school while Jin Wang was not able

From: David H Rhodes, Keeble Park North, Bishopthorpe, York. THE school examination results
have been announced and no doubt many students are rejoicing in what they have attained through
very hard work. Congratulations to them.
This does, however, bring an air of confusion as to the genuine merit and value of the grades attained.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that 50 years ago only a percentage of examinees were passed
in each grade, A, B, etc. If so, it would have had the benefit of stricter marking and no added points
for crude expressions.

Sad indictment of council s culture policy
From: Alice Sheepshanks, Arthington, near Leeds.
AS the air reverberates with the sound of rock from the Leeds Festival, at Bramham, I sorely lament
the lack of some culture and hope most sincerely that next year it will be possible for Leeds City
Council to support the Leeds Shakespeare Festival again.
It is so important to cater for all tastes, and not just to bow to the lowest common denominator. I
believe wholeheartedly that Shakespeare can be appreciated by all ages and classes, particularly if
performed by this most skilful and dedicated troupe, the British Shakespeare Company.
I have taken my two children (now aged 12 and 14) to the performances at Kirkstall Abbey since they
were quite small. They adored the spectacle, the language, the plot it was a marvellous opportunity for
them.
I feel desperately sad that this year they can wander about at Bramham and listen to the thundering
sound of Metallica and Tenacious D (which they love) but The Tempest or A Midsummer Night s
Dream are out of the question.
What a sad indictment on Leeds City Council.

The Celtic Tiger By Kieran Ireland
The text I have decided to do a critical review on is The Celtic Tiger: the myth of social partnership in
Ireland written by Kieran Allen. In this book Kieran looks at how the Celtic Tiger brought wealth and
opportunity, but also talks about the majority of people in Ireland at the time of The Celtic Tiger who
did not share the same experience, and did not gain anything in wealth. At this time Ireland was going
through increases in salaries, there was now a rise in sales, a productivity increase, these were all due
to US investments because they believed that there would be tax cuts. During this time the social
services in the country were growing weaker and were failing, and also the quality of life was
deteriorating. Due to the lack of effort put into public transport to make it more efficient and well
organised, this made towns and cities all over the country suffer a lot of traffic congestion, also
150,000 individuals were left looking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He tends to ramble on about the failures of the Irish model such as, people not declaring that they have
an income and are still receiving benefits, people failing to pay taxes, political party funding in which
the parties go about receiving finances for their campaign and the corruption and dishonesty of our
government officials, this is when they illegally gain from things such as bribery, they may help and
facilitate criminal acts such as drug trafficking and much more. In this text his arguments are diffuse
and Kieran uses non specific surveys that don t really apply to the problems that the Irish model

  • 2. Southwest Asia Research Paper Qatar the Tiny Giant of Southwest Asia Southwest Asia is a region of conflict; many of the countries maintain power through military superiority and dominance. Many governments and regimes have risen to power but only to collapse due to the constant conflict in the region. This is why it has been important for governments and regimes to maintain a strong military to keep order in the region. However, one small country, Qatar does not maintain dominance through military superiority. Despite being one of the smallest countries and having a minimal military Qatar has become a major influence and power though means of economic and political influence in Southwest Asia. When most countries believed to be a dominant power in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Qatar for being unexpected power is able to maintain a strong economy in a region that most countries ether thrive or struggle. In 2014 the export economy was ranked 35th largest in the world, and 60th for complexity according to the Economic Complexity Index (ECI). The reported exported goods was $125B and $32.8B imported, creating a positive trade balance. Resulting in 2014 gross domestic product (GDP) totaling $210B and the per capita GDP was $140k. The top exports for Qatar are Petroleum Gas, Crude Petroleum, Refined Petroleum, Ethylene Polymers and Nitrogenous Fertilizers. (Qatar Economy, n.d.) The export of oil and gas can account for approximately 85 percent of the countries export revenues. The proven oil reserves are in excess of 25 billion barrels, and the natural gas reserves are third largest in the world. Qatar s banking remains competitive and amended laws for investment to attract more foreign investment. (Qatar 2016, n.d.) Having a strong economy and abundance of high demand resource has helped with Qatar making allies and having an influence in the Southwest Asia region. Qatar has made many political allies that help the country with keeping its boarders and also keeping order in its boarders. Many of these allies are accepted and common allies in the region but there are some speculated allies that cause controversies. However delicate it may be Qatar has created alliances with some of the surrounding countries in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparison Of Joseph Stalin And Prague Spring Glasnost, Joseph Stalin and Prague Spring were influential in bringing or attempting to bring transformation to Russian society. Some attempts were more successful and unopposed then others. When establishing transformation of a long standing ideal, it is not always accepted with open arms. Joseph Stalin was betrayed by Nazi Germany, which in turn created an air of mistrust the government foreign or otherwise, as well as maintains a chokehold on his country. The consequences of his mistrust were establishing a brutal regime that wanted to continue the status quo. A new change could only result by the passage of time and simply letting the old guard die off before new ideas were reintroduced to Russia. Joseph Stalin (1878 1953) was the dictator of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) from 1929 to 1953. Under Stalin, the Soviet Union was transformed from a peasant society into an industrial and military superpower. However, he ruled by terror, and millions of his own citizens died during his brutal reign. Stalin created a new Russian society but along the way he was betrayed forcing him to ... Prague Spring of 1968 is the term used for the brief period of time when the government of Czechoslovakia led by Alexander Dubček seemingly wanted to democratise the nation and lessen the stranglehold Moscow had on the nation s affairs. The Prague Spring ended with a Soviet invasion, the removal of Alexander Dubček as party leader and an end to reform within Czechoslovakia. Testing the waters for possible transformation of old ideas did not fair well for the Czechoslovakia dissidents. Yet this did not stop the need for the citizens of Russia to want change, if would simply meant waiting for the right time to let change reintroduce itself to a new ... • 4. Elizabeth I And Later The English Monarchs Essay Elizabeth 1 To the best of my understanding Elizabeth I and later the English Monarchs with regard to religious uniformity, believed in, and were in search of a religious settlement that would bring peace for all the people. You could draw the conclusion that this very Act of Uniformity proclaimed by Elizabeth I in 1559 which was actually made up of two separate acts of Parliament, have in part created the religious freedoms we enjoy today. My thesis would be that this religious uniformity would shape a lot of things that would come to pass later on in life, as Elizabeth I ideas and beliefs would set a tone that would shape religion and the beliefs on how to worship that still go on this this current day. One of The act of Supremacy and the act of uniformity, the act of Supremacy re established England s independence from Rome, while the act of uniformity established a set form of worship and made church attendance on Sundays and holy days something that was obligatory. This very act would go on to shape some of the laws, and a lot of the thinking behind the way things are still done to this very day. Some of the laws are influence by the act of uniformity... In this time period different religious beliefs were being questioned and shaped, and the act of uniformity was designed to create order so that all the different religious groups could follow a unified religious belief. • 5. Bribing Corrupt Bureaucrats Might Not Be a Terrible Idea... This is an excellent way to show that as a human race we are constantly looking for a mode of perfection but that mode is never there because we can never find it. What we can do is to get as close as possible to the ideal situation. This ideal situation should mean that there is some form of Pareto efficiency in the system and most people stand to benefit. If the value system allows for the existence of some classes to gain more than others this will create inequality. In such a case the government will always try to change policies to make the shift. But then the problem is that sooner of later another class will prevail of the current ruling classes will continue to hold some positions of power that will allow them to keep their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The exposition of the IT is also a contributor towards this. The Gandhian morality of not showcasing your wealth no longer holds true when a certain business man in Mumbai builds a 27 storied building for a family of 5. The economic prowess of the nation is hence showcased by such successful entrepreneurs. The height of the positives of economic reforms took place when India can acheievd a growth rate of 9% in 2007 . Today India is known as among the 10 largest economies of the world. But having stated all this, it needed to note that India still stands poorly in world social parameters. We still are amongst the pooter nations of the world. Poverty ranks are still high. We are one of the most corrupt nations in the world and indexes do not rank us well. Socially our parameter are not high. This will sooner or later reflect upon our economics as well. This will be demonstrated in the rest of the essay. Corruption is considered bad and after the several scams that have hit India over the apst 4 5 years we have clearly not changed things. But there are studies that suggest otherwise. The 2005 paper suggests that bribing bureaucrats might not be such a bad idea. This is because the corrupt bureaucrats can force the government into talking helpful measures. The need for these measures might be a result of the demands from the bribers who expects some changes from the corrupt bureaucrats. The economy could benefit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her work ranges in physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness. Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and great courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In my opinion, I feel Marina Abramovic and my main goal as an artist is not only to completely change the way art is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art. • 7. The Practice Of Paying Bonus The practice of paying bonus in India appears to have originated during First World War when certain textile mills granted 10% of wages as war bonus to their workers in 1917. In certain cases of industrial disputes demand for payment of bonus was also included. In 1950, the Full Bench of the Labour Appellate evolved a formula for determination of bonus. A plea was made to raise that formula in 1959. At the second and third meetings of the Eighteenth Session of Standing Labour Committee (G. O.I.) held in New Delhi in March/April 1960, it was agreed that a Commission be appointed to go into the question of bonus and evolve suitable norms. A Tripartite Commission was set up by the Government of India to consider in a comprehensive manner, the question of payment of bonus based on profits to employees employed in establishments and to make recommendations to the Government. The Government of India accepted the recommendations of the Commission subject to certain modifications. To implement these recommendations the Payment of Bonus Ordinance, 1965 was promulgated on 29th May, 1965. To replace the said Ordinance the Payment of Bonus Bill was introduced in the Parliament. Statement of Objective and Reasons A Tripartite Commission was set by the Government of India by their resolution No.WB 20(9)/61, dated 6th December, 1961 to consider in a comprehensive manner, the question of payment of bonus based on profits to employees employed in establishments and to make recommendations to ... • 8. The Art And Science Of Professional Nursing Practice The Art and Science of Professional Nursing Practice Frequently, nurses are considered the foundation of the healthcare industry and the stakes are high when certain qualities must be possessed when working with patients and providing quality care. Nurses have a profound ability to apply strong skill based knowledge with a caring and compassionate attitude that can improve patient outcomes. They also play an important role that can positively or negatively affect the way patients and family members view healthcare as a whole. Professional nursing practice is an art and science when both elements are integrated together to form a unique way of practice, but what does that really mean? The purpose of this paper is to define nursing as an art and science and explain how these two concepts come together to form an extraordinary way to perform professional nursing practice that contributes to the well being of the patient. Nursing as a Science Over the years there have been vast changes in healthcare that require nurses to go above and beyond in their level of expertise in technology and scientific knowledge (Palos, 2014). Nurses have to evolve with those changes, therefore they must utilize educational tools and develop skills to stay current with the advancements that hospitals require for practice (Palos, 2014). As in the pack of wolves, leaders tend to have a special something which makes people gravitate towards them. Wallace Stevens mentions the same leader: I placed a jar in Tennessee/and round it was around that hill. (Stevens 1 2). A jar is not a star figure which everyone would gravitate to. • 11. Constructivism Essay Empiricists and rationalists have proposed opposing theories of the acquisition of knowledge, which appear unable to coexist. Each theory holds its own strengths but does not demonstrate a strong argument in itself to the questions, Is knowledge truly possible? and How is true knowledge obtained? . Immanual Kant successfully merged the two philosophies and provided a convincing argument with his theory of empirical relativism, or what some may call constructivism. His theory bridges the gap between rationalism and empiricism and proves that empiricists and rationalists each present a piece of the full puzzle. In order to truly understand Kant s epistemology, one must first review and understand both empiricism and rationalism on an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This initiates the principle of induction, which is the assumption that the future will be like the past. An example of this would be every time smoke is seen, one will inevitably look for the fire that is causing the smoke. This is because based on previous experiences, it is known to be true that fire causes smoke. One notable problem with pure empiricism is that it does rely upon reasoning. If the concept of causality is true, there must be some form of reasoning to be able to relate one action to a reaction. Hume s principle of induction assumes that one experience will be similar to a previous experience under similar circumstances. It takes a measure of reasoning to assume that the previous experience of dropping a glass would result in the same consequence when dropping a vase. To account for this, Hume believes that reason draws connections between concepts in the mind, but it cannot form connections between those ideas in the external world (Lawhead, 2010). Hume divided reasoning into 2 categories: namely, relations of ideas and matters of fact. This dichotomy between relations of ideas (which are logically necessary, but tell us nothing about the world), and matters of fact (which tell us about the world, but which are not certain), is often called Hume s fork (Lawhead, 2011, p. 108). Rationalism In contrast to empiricism, rationalists claim that knowledge is gained from reasoning. It is through reason that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are more than a few ways that us humans are dependent on the Mekong river. Some of these are food, water and increasingly, electricity. All of the previously mentioned needs seem important but one clashes with the others. Hydropower is à renewable energy source which is rising in popularity. Since hydropower is à renewable energy source it is not believed to be harmful to the environment. When the flow and force of à river is switched, sediment is blocked. This sediment plays à key role in agriculture around the mekong river. Sediment is important in farming as it adds nutrients to the soil and protects the mainland from being eroded by salt water from the sea. As salinity rates are increasing because of the excessive dams along this river, the plants grown here are changing as mentioned in an Al Jazeera English video on youtube. There is another natural force that is unsettled by damming on the Mekong. This is the fish migrations as the dams block the migrating fish, many of which are only found in this river. Four out of ten of the world s greatest freshwater fish are found in the Mekong river, these are being threatened by dams directly as the fish that they consume are being stopped from migrating and therefore they have à lower chance of getting their needed amount of nutrition. This also directly affects us humans as mentioned earlier. Around 2.1 million tonnes of fish are found on the Mekong river, these feed close to 60 million people. The Constitution Of The Texas Constitution Bigger is not always better, in the case of the Texas Constitution having the second longest state Constitution and the fourth most amended Constitution in the United States, makes it a difficult and complicated document. The Texas Constitution has been rewritten a total of six times since becoming independent from Mexico. The most recent being the Constitution of 1876, which is excessively detailed and exact due to the framers fear of a strong state government. The framers of the constitution placed strategically in the body of the Constitution rules restricting the government s power. Making it inconvenient and difficult to reform the current Texas Constitution. There are four key functions of a Constitution. One function is stating the source of power and authority for legitimate state political institutions. Also in a state Constitution is the delegation of power, which explains how powers are granted and used by institutions and individuals. Another function is to prevent the concentration of political power, by supplying political mechanism such as checks and balances. Lastly, a Constitution explains the limits of political power. The general basic of a state constitution is somewhat reflected in the current Texas Constitution. The framers of the Constitution of 1876 called for a strong popular control of the state government, public officials would be elected by the people. His closing acceptance speech has shown us how much his character has drastically changed in contrast to how he ran his entire campaign. Throughout his campaign to become president Donald Trump degraded women, bashed the disabled, and had plans to build walls to keep families from being together. He seems to be everything we didn t need for our next president and now shockingly enough in his winning acceptance speech he has become a whole new man, thanking and congratulating the Clinton campaign and posing as a humble acceptor of his new presidential title. As Donald Trump thanked and congratulated the Clinton campaign after winning the 2016 presidential election we saw a remarkable change in his character. This sudden shift raises the concern of many Americans wondering why he has suddenly changed his plans for his presidential reign versus how he ran his campaign. It has to do simply with normal growth of tendons in the body, when they are subjected to increased loads. A normal process, but nonetheless painful. How is that? Think about growing pains in children. If you have children or younger brothers and sisters, you know they all complain from pain, usually in the lower extremities, during maximal growth, especially during early adolescence. Tendons subjected to bigger loads than usual, grow in a similar way. How does this problem manifest itself? Deep pain, or discomfort in tendons or fasciae (Flat tendon structures). Painful limitation of movements even is frequently associated. So if such pain occurs after you increased tremendously your maximal load, then you don t need to bother! It s normal. Sometimes, it lasts for one whole year or even 18 months. This is again not abnormal. And all of a sudden it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The law delivers the structure for social work with children and families, through a basis of duties and powers that reinforce and deliver protective actions when necessary (Wilson et al, 2011). The Children Act 1989 was to provide every child with the right to be safeguarded from mistreatment and the right for investigations to take place to protect their well being. Its vital principle was that, for children, it is more beneficial for them to be looked after within their own family if possible (Parliament, 1989). The act did not come into force in England and Wales until 1991 although it was given royal accent in 1989. It is comprehensive and incorporates virtually all the law relating to children. The Act introduced new principles, powers and duties on local authorities. Following the statutory guidance in Working Together under the Children Act 1989 (Department of Health, Home Office and Department for Education and Skills, 1999) the Child Protection Register was designed. It was a documentation of all children in each area for whom there were unresolved child protection matters. The aim of the child protection register was to enable agencies and professionals to be aware of those children who are judged to be at continuing risk of Significant Harm (Department of Health, Home Office and Department for Education and Skills, 1999). Age is important as the target for reduction in mortality from CHD, stroke and related disorders of 40% of the year 2010, established in Saving Lives: Our Healthier Nation (DoH 1999), referred to the under 75 age group. The key areas identified for intervention in the national service framework are: reducing smoking, promoting healthy eating, promoting physical activity and reducing obesity, although several other factors are known to contribute to the development of CHD. Smoking has long been known to be a factor in the development of CHD. According to Smeltzer and Bare (2000), smoking decreases blood flow to the extremities and increases heart rate and pressure via stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system, causing vasoconstriction. In addition, it raises the chances of clot formation by increasing the aggregation of platelets. Campbell (2006) suggests that the toxic components of cigarette smoke damage the endothelial lining of the blood vessels, which may initiate the development of atherosclerosis. • 20. China s Nationalism And Isolation From Western Society For thousands of years China has operated dynastically, in a cyclic mode, causing no forward movement or linear progress. China s ethnocentrism and isolation from Western society led to internal disorder. The isochronous nature of the Chinese feudal system eventually led to the demise of the last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, in 1911. This vulnerability provided Western influence allowing for imperialism throughout the country. Students and intellectuals with Westernized educations saw that the political and social turmoil was attributed to a long history of rejection of anything Western. On May 4, 1919, students led a revolt, called the May Fourth Movement, against Confucian culture promoting science, democracy, and anti imperialism. The May Fourth Movement was a period of total iconoclasm, of complete rejection of past tradition, and of absolute ratification of western ideals resulting in a literary revolution. By exploring Lu Xun s realist writing style and Yu Dafu s romantic writing style, the true function of literature during the May Fourth era is revealed. May Fourth Background: The May Fourth movement occurred as a response to the Chinese government s poor response to the Treaty of Versailles, known as the Shandong problem. The Treaty of Versailles took the rights to the Shandong providence, in China, from Germany and gave them to Japan. The second part shows the assessment of April s biological, psychological, and social emotional development, the ecological factors which affected her development, and the cultural stereotype expectation on normal development. The family did not give April a chance to explore and express her grief over the loss. These choices would impact her ego function. Since she could not make sense of the situation, she could not modulate her affect and behavior in order to cope with the pain of loss. She automatically and unconsciously used one of the most important ego functions defense mechanism to cope with the trauma. She went into denial, which interfered with her reality testing. She was told that her father went to heaven, which, to her, meant that he was in a distant place. As Silverman, Nickman, and Worden (1992) stated, April, as other children typically display, developed an inner construction of her father that assisted her in coping with her losses and with all of the ensuing changes in her life. She even developed magic thinking : a fantasy that her father would return as shown in the picture she drew of her father coming in and out of the house by using the ladder. But with time passing, the reality of her father s absence becoming increasingly permanent was reinforced. She could not always hold her sadness and fear as shown through her nightmares, crying, or screaming. North Dakota was the first state, with nine other states right behind it. These states include North Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Nebraska.
