The Many Languages of Australia and New Zealand
As of 2013, there are many languages spoken both in Australia and New Zealand. Having a history
dating as far as the 18th century, both countries constitute the Austral realm. Within its many aspects,
one of the most notorious is its language. Known by the humorous effect some of its sentences and
words provoke in people, the language of the Austral realm has helped shape the identity of Australia
as well as New Zealand and has become an essential spectrum of their culture.
In spite of its variations and the reasons behind its current status, this research paper will be focusing
upon the four main languages of the Austral realm: English, New Zealand s and Australia s sign
language, Australian Indigenous language and the Maori language in New Zealand. Each language has
impacted the Austral realm in its own way and will be viewed both individually and in comparison
within the realm s two states. English s history, what constitutes the signs in New Zealand s sign
language, Australian accent... all of them are part of a culture both beautiful and unique and should,
therefore, be treated with the same care as one would treat any relic.
The Austral realm s languages are viewed by its people as more than only an idiom. Its evolution
throughout decades of history has transformed both Australia and New Zealand into a unique society,
filled with a mixture of words and idioms such as go for a burn and dog s breakfast, both of which
exemplifies some of the reasons of the worldwide

The Berlin Wall Essay example
For thirty years, an iron curtain lay across Germany. This iron curtain was called the Berlin Wall, and
it represented the divide between East and West Germany. It also represented the loss of East Germany
s freedom and democracy. The Berlin Wall separated families and friends. This resulted in children
growing up without a father and wives losing all communication with their husbands. The Berlin Wall
poorly affected many people and businesses, and caused an ugly dent in Germany s history.
After World War Two ended, Germany was in a horrible state. America would fly in all kinds of
supplies on an average of one plane every three minutes (Levy 11). America, Great Britain, and
France created three zones with democratic governments in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In response to this, the side of Germany under control of the Soviet Union became the German
Republic of Germany, also known as West Germany. This was one of the first steps that would divide
Germany for almost 30 years.
The German Communist Party began restricting East German s ability to travel to the West in 1949
(Levy 13). Germany s Eastern government installed barbed wire and minefields fields along the
border of East and West Germany. However, Eastern Germans still found a way to escape to the
western side of Germany. The most popular way of escape was known as the five cent subway ride to
freedom. There was a subway system in Berlin that linked it s Eastern and Western sides together. For
five cents, eastern Germans would take the train from East Germany to West Germany. Then that
person would slip through the border or take a plane or bus out. According to Debbie Levy, during the
first six months of 1961, 160,000 Germans had escaped from the East to the West. From 1949 to 1961,
more than three million Germans had escaped from the East to the West. This upset the Soviet
Officials in charge of Germany very much. Half of the people escaping East Germany were under 25,
and three quarters were under 45. The people escaping included: 16,000 engineers, 5,000 doctors,
dentists, and veterinaries, 1,000 university professors and lecturers, and 15,000 high school and
elementary teachers. The

The Iberians were soon overtook by Carthage when the Iberian peninsula fell to. Later on Carthage

up the foundation for the Spanish language and culture. After the fall of the western Roman empire in
the fifth century AD, the Visigoths ruled Spain. The Visigoths were Germanic people who had
migrated from central Europe. Then in 711, the north African Muslims launched an invasion across the
Strait of Gibraltar, which occupied most of the peninsula within only a few years. They remained there
for over seven centuries. During this time though, the Christian kingdoms in the north increased power

Essay on Biography of Johann Elert Bode
Johann Elert Bode was born in Hamburg, Germany on January 19, 1747. His father was a merchant
and his mother stayed at home with him and his eight younger brothers and sisters. Bode never went
to formal school, but his father was determined to teach him how to be a great merchant. However,
Bode didn t want to become a merchant. He was very interested in mathematics, geography, and
astrology. He decided to go against what his father was teaching him and pursue a career in Astrology
instead. When Bode was a child he had a nasty eye infection that caused him to lose most of his sight
in his right eye. This didn t keep him from his studies or his astrological findings. When Bode was 18

Uranus was later found and its number is 19. Bode s law can not, however, accurately give the correct
answer for Neptune and Pluto. While Bode s name is in the name of the law he was not the person
who created it. He was only the person who popularized it. Johann Daniel Titius was actually the first
person to first announce it. Bode had written about it in one of his studies but he had not credited
Titius for his works, so people just assumed that it was Bode s findings. Bode later gave Titius the
credit he deserved, hence the second name of the law, Bode Titius Law.
Bode has many other contributions to astronomy. He found, in total, four different celestial bodies and
rediscovered three others. He discovered M81, a spiral galaxy in Ursa Major; M82, an irregular galaxy
also in Ursa Major; M53, a globular cluster in Coma Berenices; M92, another globular cluster, in
Hercules; M64, a spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices, this one was discovered by Edward Pigott then
Bode rediscovered it 12 days later; M48, an open cluster in Hydra, discovered by Charles Messier;
and IC4665, an open open cluster in Ophiuchus, discovered by De Cheseaux. Also, in 1776 Bode
created his version of the theory of the solar constitution. Later in 1795, Sir William Herschel created
his theory of the theory of the solar constitution by tweaking Bode s version to fit his beliefs. Bode is
the man whom came up with the planet name Uranus and it has been called that ever since.

Infosys Consulting Essay
Will Infosys Consulting be able to change the rules of the game in the consulting industry?
ICI s new rules of the game (1 1 3 model)
Infosys consulting has come up with an innovative way of performing business process consulting
operations. They are calling their model as 1 1 3 model based on the allocation of resources for
particular project. This model could be summarized in the below diagram with the significance of the
new approach highlighted in the purple callout (case p9):
The value of this model comes from allotment of the task between onsite and offshore teams and
hence making the most of the time differences and wage differenced to accomplish maximum work at
minimum cost and time. The differentiating factors of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally due to frequent client interaction and innovative employee reward program tied to value
addition for client had ended up in being both client and employee more satisfied with ICI. So
eventually all the companies in business process consulting will have to change their operations to this
model to remain competitive. So, Infosys consulting is certainly in the process of changing the rules of
the game in consulting industry.
Advantages and disadvantages of the model and base in India
Advantages:
Infosys, having based in India, has effectively capitalized on institutional voids in factor market (HBR
article 9 703 431) in this model by:
Exploiting its understanding of variable talent pool in India and using them effectively for providing
world class software solutions
Exploiting its experience in onsite offshore model software development process
Effectively applying the matrix quality measurement structure to this model to measure the
performance of every deliverable and hence increasing the quality of product with each project
Clearly Infosys is able to exploit its position of base in India. Apart from the capitalizing on
institutional voids in factor market of India, Infosys has gained additional advantages of the
geographical locations of its base. 1 1 3 model can effectively work day and night due to time
difference between US and India. Having design team (ICI

Robert Niccol s Time Is A Film Directed By Andrew Niccol...
In Time Andrew Niccol 1.11 internal.
In Time is a film directed by Andrew Niccol. The film uses a range of film techniques to show the
inequality across time zones. We see Will striving to achieve equality among society. We see how Will
experiences near death and the struggles of trying to achieve his goal. During the scene we see Will at
the Weis party, the minute men come to question him about the wealth that Will has just received.
During the scene, we see inequality across the zones of Dayton and New Greenwich.
The director uses a range of camera techniques to show Will getting interrogated to create suspense
and a clear power struggle. We see a long shot of Will Salas when he is getting questioned by the
timekeeper Raymond Leon. Will is now suddenly trapped and is forced to be seated into a substantial
plush chair. The setting is green painted room with gold incorporated into the decor. The long shot
then transitions into a high angle shot. Through the shot, we can see guards positioned on either side
of Will. This emphasizes that Will has been ambushed and is overpowered and that they are watching
every move that Will makes. We also learn within the scene that Will is captured and cannot escape
the timekeeper as well as the guards. This contrasts back to Dayton where the bars on Will s apartment
windows symbolised that he was trapped and was living in a controlled area. We learn that Will has
ambition to make to make the system of time vanish and to become

Creeley For Love
Robert Creeley The American poet, Robert Creeley, utilized his life experiences within his poem For
Love to illustrate his confusion on the unsaid in love, his feelings on being in love, and the feeling of
nothingness without love. Robert Creeley was born in Arlington, Massachusetts on May 21, 1926, and
his death date is on march 30, 2005. He was one of the most important and influential American poets
of the twentieth century. At the age of four his father died, leaving him only with his mom and sister in
Acton, where an accident left him with one blind eye. He attended Holderness school in Plymouth,

In the poem he talks about wanting to say what was most important to him and that everything he
knows comes from what he wants to say. He explains that today is different than yesterday, he is
wanting to fill the emptiness with hope again. He is hesitant but decides to not if someone else would
not , but is unsure of what he wouldn t do. He hints at how love changes and he hasn t earned anything
this person is giving him, to him love is a reward that rarely occurs. He says that not having love is
tiresome and lonesome, but amusing if you are important to yourself. He exclaims that a dream of that
kind of love is only made up in your mind. He questions if his version of love is the real thing or just
something he made up. He knows that love is sometimes confused with lust and he fears the unsaid.
He thinks that there s no need to say the unsaid because he thinks about how taken he is by love. He
explains that the feeling of love is some time beyond place, or place beyond time, no mind left to say
anything at all ( For Love ). His fears are relinquished because love takes his fears

Hydrotherapy In Horses
The Use of Hydrotherapy in Horses Hydrotherapy is the use of water for cultivating wound healing,
facilitating movement, and relieving pain. Hydrotherapy has an extensive historical significance, not
only in the horse world but also in the human world. Today hydrotherapy is used all around the world
as a traditional way, and in some cases, the most effective way to treat specific illnesses and injuries.
To understand how it works, one must understand how the body reacts to traumas such as cuts, tears
or concussive traumas on a cellular level. After this is understood, the effectiveness of hydrotherapy is
easy to grasp. Hydrotherapy has many different forms to make it the exceptionally efficient for each

Pain is considered a positive symptom. It prevents overuse of the traumatized area. Increased blood
flow is caused by heat. In addition, swelling keeps the injured site immobile, but prolonged swelling
can decrease the ability to move muscles (Hydrotherapy; Swelling). Anti inflammatory drugs can
decrease swelling and heat, but they also reduce pain. This lessening of pain can lead to over usage of
the injured site causing further harm. Because of the extra fluids the blood vessels are put under
pressure thus stalling the flow of blood and lymphocytes. A safe way to remove the excess fluids
naturally is by using hot and cold; however, heat can prolong inflammation causing certain secondary
tissue damage ( Hydrotherapy ). This is where hydrotherapy comes

The Debate Of Science And Medicine
Throughout the course of human history people have been fascinated by the world around them.
Ancient philosophers focused on the questions of human existence while early scientists searched for
explanations beyond those that religion provided. Science became an outlet to provide answers to the
unknown while creating further questions for future experimenters to seek information about. Simply
observing and explaining nature failed to bring seekers of knowledge satisfaction. It was not enough
to have knowledge, people desired to apply that knowledge, using it to create an advantage over
nature. The eagerness to control nature sparked one of humankind s largest debates. Pre and post
enlightenment thinkers alike questioned the role of science and whether or not it should continue on
the path of being master to nature. In the modern world, science still faces the same debate especially
within the realm of medicine. Modern medicine has greatly increased life expectancy by decreasing
the number of communicable disease outbreaks, but still doctors and scientist want to go further.
Science and medicine have come to a point where it is possible to make changes to the human genome
and use stem cells to create other cell types. While these advances have great potential they are being
experimented with in ways that seem unnatural and wobble between what is ethical or unethical. With
expansions in genetic research and our growing understanding of the human genome and genes in

The struggle for marriage equality in the United States began in the 1970 s. It became more prominent
in 1993 when the Hawaiian Supreme court declared that state s prohibition against marriage between
people of the same sex to be unconstitutional (Weiss, 2013). In response to this, there was significant
public outcry and opponents of marriage equality asserted that marriage could only be defined as a
union between a man and a woman. This resulted in prohibitive legislation that was enacted in 1996
known as the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) DOMA prevented the federal government from
recognizing same sex marriages (Baker, 2013). DOMA also allowed each state to refuse recognition of
same sex marriages performed in other states. Be that as it may, in the 21st century, public and
legislative support for marriage equality has grown and various national polls conducted since 2011
show that a majority of Americans support marriage equality (Live Science Staff, 2011; Newport,
2011). On May 9, 2012, Barack Obama became the first sitting U.S. president to publicly declare
support for the legalization of same sex marriage. The provision of DOMA, forbidding the federal
government from recognizing same sex marriages was struck down by the Supreme Court on June
26th of 2013. In the ensuing two years, 36 states, the District of Columbia, 24 Native American Tribal
jurisdictions and Guam had legalized same sex marriage. However up

Slavery And The United States
In modern society, people often try for minority groups to feel equal to majorities, however, when
slavery existed, blacks were undermined and denied many freedoms entitled to them under the
Constitution. There were many topics argued about, but slavery caused the most dispute within the
country. In the 1850 s, the pro slavery South and the anti slavery North collided when the case of Dred
Scott, a black slave who attempted to gain liberation, was brought to court. The North and South had
vastly different views on the subject of slavery, Scott had resided in the free state of Illinois with his
master, illegally, after being taken from the slave state of Missouri. His residency in Illinois, which

Because he had been held as a slave illegally, and ultimately denied the nullification of his status, he
was therefore entitled to petition his liberation and gain freedom.
Based on the slavery laws in Illinois where he resided, Dred Scott should have been liberated as he
had legal standing to file a lawsuit against the government. His freedoms had been denied and when
he was held illegally as a slave in the state of Illinois, these facts were not acknowledged when he
proposed his freedoms, and therefore, had every right to petition his liberation. Debate of the
constitutionality of The Missouri Compromise caused controversy within the Dred Scott case. The
Missouri Compromise came about in 1818, when Missouri petitioned to become a slave state. At the
time, there were 22 states, 11 slave and 11 non slave states; there was balance of representation in
senate. The house of representatives, however, proposed an amendment that would ban the
importation of slaves, and eventually all slavery. This bill was passed, and then moved on to senate
where a modified version was passed that did not contain any restrictions on slavery. The house
refused to accept the modifications made, and the bill was never passed. In 1819, Maine petitions for
acceptance into the union but as a free state. When both petitions passed, Missouri was then
reconsidered. Slavery

Why Guns Should Be Banned
Is it time to ban guns? Yes guns must be banned because they are the causes of many deaths amongst
the people of the U.S today. Gun violence result in fifty percent of today s tragedies. Handguns causes
too many deaths, the government need to make gun less accessible, and the law enforcement need to
really enforce the laws they make. First, and foremost many handguns have claimed the lives of too
many people. This is a very serious issue we must tackle globally not just in the United States. 1.7
million children live with unlocked, loaded guns. Gun violence is the third leading death among young
people. 1 out of 5 guns are unfortunately sold without a background check (Beckett). And not to
mention Guns also increase suicide rates in the U.S Every week a school shooting occurs in the U.S

mass shootings in the US. In 2012 Dedrick Owens age Six opens fire at Kayla Rolland. This shows

Residential School Reconciliation Essay
From the late 19th to late 20th century, the Canadian government implemented the Indian Residential
School System (IRSS) in collaboration with the Anglican, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, and United
Churches. Under the IRRS, Aboriginal children were forcibly torn from their families and made to live
in residential schools. The children were forbidden from expressing Aboriginal culture, and were
punished for doing so through verbal, physical, and sexual abuse. The purpose of the IRSS was to
destroy Aboriginal culture and anglicize Aboriginal children. The residential schools were therefore a
mechanism of cultural genocide, as they were the tools through which this purpose was executed.

towards reconciliation with Aboriginal peoples: a compensation plan for survivors, establishing
commemorative projects, and delivering a national apology for the IRSS. In 2008, then Prime Minister
Stephen Harper delivered the apology on behalf of the Canadian government for the IRSS and it s
continuing impacts. The IRSSA also involved the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission (TRC), an Aboriginal body whose purpose is to inform about the IRSS, and to report on
how the process of reconciliation should be navigated. The TRC defines reconciliation as establishing
and maintain a mutually respectful relationship between Aboriginal peoples and non Aboriginal
peoples [in Canada], which entails awareness of the past, and action to change behaviour . The steps
taken towards reconciliation have been limited in success, because the Government of Canada has

Fifteenth Amendment was passed. Groups such as the National American Woman Suffrage
Association and the National Women s Party both fought for these rights, although using drastically
different tactics. The usefulness of women during World War I helped their argument, and the
Nineteenth Amendment was passed on August 26, 1920. It may be argued that due to pay gaps and
other issues, total equality is not present in today s society, but these brave women allowed us to
obtain the rights women have

What Do You Think Influences Our Dreams Research Paper
What do you think influences your dreams? Do you believe that there is a scientific reason behind it?
A psychological meaning? Or maybe you believe that they re messages from a divine source?
Whatever it is, our subconscious mind behaves rather erratically when presented with a soft pillow,
warm milk, and a large number of sheep.
The human race has been long since fascinated with the concept that is our dreams. This separate state
of consciousness, an alternate reality if you will, has captured the interest of the nation throughout
history. Perhaps this is due to the fact that we spend a third of our life in this delusional state; roughly
about six years, at the most, of our life dreaming, according to George Bernard Shaw. Properly
knowing the fact that a great deal of our life is wasted in a sedated state, thus raises another question:
Why do we dream? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amazing, right? In the study, dreams were found to be highly visual and often illogical in nature, this
fact ultimately being true, it was said by Barrett that the uncanny nature makes it ripe for out of the
box thinking that certain problems require. Her initial statement, in which was discussed at the
Association for Psychological Science, went along the lines of dreams are no different than the
thoughts that go through our minds during the day they are in a slightly different state from when our
eyes are open, as stated by Barrett. But why does our mind do this? The newest thought that will
plague our dreams has finally produced itself, and we will continue to look for

as Radio. He got that nickname because of his liking of collecting and listening to them. The events of
the this story take place in the time of 1976. He was often seen pushing or riding a grocery cart down
the street. He never talked to anyone but football players at the local high school picked on him
because of his disability. The coach of the team made sure that Radio was a major influence and was

defined as a lower level of intellectual functioning and affects their daily life. In the movie Coach
Jones visits Radio s home and talked with his mother Maggie to get permission for him to attend an
away game. She told him that her other son did not suffer from what is Mental Retardation, but Radio
s father and brother both actually suffer from the disability. His brother is not mentioned in the movie
but he is not understood while he attempts to speak. She also said that the doctors actually didn t know
what was wrong with Radio but that he learned slower than others. Radio wanted to be liked, and
wanted to be a part of the team just like anybody else. An event that happened in the movie during a

The Accidental Billionaires By Ben Mezrich
Facebook was created in 2004 on the Harvard University Campus by one of its own students: Mark
Zuckerberg. First restricted to students of Harvard s University, it is then opened to other American
universities before becoming accessible to all by September 2006. Since June 2015, 1.49 billion of
people are registered on this website. This social network is now part of everyday life for nearly one
fifth of the world population, it has redefined how we connect and communicate in the 21st century. It
is therefore normal that a movie was devoted to its creation and expansion. David Fincher, based on
the book by Ben Mezrich, The Accidental Billionaires , directed the movie.

Returning into his room Mark sees his friend, Eduardo Saverin and tells him the idea of a project
called The Facebook , a social network site exclusively for Harvard students. He says it could boost
the popularity of Facemash. When the site is launched, the Winklevoss twins and their partner and
friend Narendra, are convinced Zuckerberg stole their idea. They want to sue Mark in justice.
The story, a fiction but based on a true story, is made of flashbacks, and in parallel shows the
development of Facebook and the two trials that oppose Mark Zuckerberg, firstly to the Winklevoss
twins, and secondly to Eduardo. This film emphasizes the creation of this start up that is Facebook,
with its successes and failures. We are going to discuss the beginning of Facebook as an innovative
start up, the role of Mark s different partners: Eduardo Saverin and Sean Parker in the development of
the website, and the depositions and testimony over the ownership and business dealing with various
lawsuits of Facebook from the Winklevoss twins.
A start up is a young company with high growth potential and which requires mostly a fundraiser.
That is what Facebook and the film is about, a brilliant idea, made possible by Mark Zuckerberg and a
fundraiser of $1,000. At the beginning Mark created Facemash to get over his break up with his
girlfriend, but it proved to be a smart concept. Shortly after

Notes On Motivation Theory And Motivation
Chapter 2: Literature review
2.1. Motivation theory
Types of motivation
According to Pritchard and Ashwood (2008: 6), motivation is the process used to allocate energy to
maximize the satisfaction of needs. It requires that one have a reason to do something. Well know
researchers in this area Ryan and Deci (2010) believe that a person, who feels no drive or inspiration
to act, can therefore be characterized as unmotivated, while someone who is energized toward a goal
can be defined as motivated. People may also experience differing levels and types of motivation
based on their individual backgrounds, which means that they vary not only in their amount of
motivation, but also in the trend of that motivation (Ryan and Deci, 2000). Different things motivate
people who come from different social, cultural, economic and/or financial backgrounds, or who have
received different education. An employee s motives, socio economic background and value system
will have an effect on how they work, as well as influence the outcome of their performance (Wyk and
Erasmus, 2003: 315).
Many researchers have worked in the field of motivation over the years, and developed different
theories. Maslow s Hierarchy of needs theory proposes that an individual s most basic needs must be
met before they will develop higher level desires (Goble, 1970). Maslow created the term
metamotivation to explain the motivations of those people, which go beyond the extent of their basic
needs and instead

Arab Rituals
Arabic Rituals and Traditions During Pregnancy
An Arab is defined as an individual who was born in an Arab country, speaks the Arabic language, and
shares the beliefs of an Arab culture (Kridli 2002). Many Arabs are very religious and typically
practice either Muslim or Christianity. There are 22 countries that make up the Arab world they are
located in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Did you know that there are about two hundred
thousand Arab Americans living in Erie, PA? There has been a great influx in the past decade of Arab
Americans coming to and living in Erie County, PA. Since the area is becoming more diverse, it is

Children are dearly loved (Durham 2014, p. 403), and large families are common. It is important that
the parents are not left childless and that the family name is carried on therefore it is important to have
more than one child. Sons are highly favorable because they provide economic security, political
strength, and endure social prestige (Kridli, 2002). If the first pregnancy in a family results in a girl,
the desire to try again is high, if this child is a girl, they typically continue to try until they get a boy. If
the first child is a boy, sometimes they will only have one (Kridli, 2002). Kridli says that there are
three main pressures to have children in the Arabic culture, they include: 1. Traditional required for
help and work in the fields and caregivers for elderly parents, 2. Familial pressure to have kids to be
able to preserve the family name, 3. Religious desire to be fruitful and the belief in God and his
powers to care for any child that is conceived (2002). Children and family are so important in this
culture that family planning is only acceptable to space out children, it is not to be used to limit the
size of a family. The practice of sterilization is not used unless the mother is in poor health and it
would compromise subsequent pregnancies. Because family planning is not acceptable, knowledge on
proper use of contraceptives is unknown to many Arabic people. Arab Americans are more accepting
of contraceptives but need the education on options and importance of correct use (Kridli 2002).
Finding out the sex of the unborn child is believed to cause the evil eye. No one knows what is in the
womb but God (Kridli, 2002), he could potentially change the sex at any time throughout the
pregnancy.
Pregnancy is important in this culture marriage is dependent on fertility therefore she is not confirmed
wife until she has a baby (Kridli, 2002). Pregnancy in the Arabic culture is believed to be

The Impact of the Industrial Revolution on Western Society
The Industrial Revolution had a significant impact on Western society and the effects were numerous
and mainly positive. The Industrial Revolution began in England in the 1790 s and spread throughout
Europe and eventually to America. The extensive effects of the Industrial Revolution influenced
almost every aspect of daily life and human society in some way. During this time period, widespread
transportation such as railroads became available and important for the movement of goods and
people. Also, new social reforms came about, dealing with critical issues including that of child labor.
In addition, the effects of the revolution resulted in a great improvement in living standards for many
people. Although the positive affects of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, set the minimum age for a child to legally work at 9 and stated that children 9 13 were
not allowed to work for more than twelve hours a day. The act also set guidelines as to what children
were permitted to do while working. The Mines Act of 1842 set the regulation that no female or boy
under ten years of age was to be employed underground in the mines. The factory acts allowed for a
more modern day pattern of work in which men were expecting to be the main wage earners. The
Industrial Revolution increased the awareness of human rights of women and children, and therefore,
accelerated the process of equality in society.
An additional effect of the Industrial Revolution on Western society was the improvement in living
standards for people. The invention of the steam engine, run by coal, allowed factories to be located in
cities and no longer by water. This resulted in people flocking to these densely populated cities for job
opportunities and in turn, eventually led to bad living conditions for many of the inhabitants. It was
believed filthy living conditions in cities were a chief cause of epidemic diseases such as cholera. In
addition, overcrowded, disease ridden slums were viewed as dangerous to physical health, moral
health, and political

Comparing Hammurapi s Laws And The Book Of Exodus
Goring Ox Law Many people do not realize how many laws people had to follow in the ancient east.
The Hammurapi s Laws and the readings from Exodus 21 23 have many similar qualities. But just like
everything else they can be analyzed differently when they are being compared. While throughout
both readings they talk about the goring ox law. And seeing how that one specific law can be viewed
differently it shows how unlike the two places were. In one place they were realizing how much God
does for them, and how he provides to them if they follow his laws or commandments. Whereas in the
other (around Hammurapi) location Hammurapi just talks about they are following the laws, and them
getting nothing in return. In the book of Exodus, it shows how ... Show more content on

For example, in The New Interpreter s Study Bible it shows just that If the ox has been accustomed to
gore in the past and its owner has been warned but has not restrained it, and it kills a man or a woman,
the ox should be stoned, and its owner shall be put to death. And that is the same in Hammurapi s
Laws as well. But what also is noticed is that if you have money you can pay off your death. As it is
stated in Exodus 20 40, the owner of that ox can pay for redemption If ransom is laid upon him (the
owner of the ox), he must pay whatever is laid upon him to redeem his life. The NRSV rendering ...
the owner shall pay whatever is imposed for the redemption of the victim s life. It does not seem right
because the victim is dead so the money should not count for it. But it goes into explaining that the
victims life is an interpretative addition. And throughout those two examples, you can see that the
owner of the ox is only penalized if he knows his ox is killing people. If he does not know that his ox
is killing people he does not get penalized or in other words put to death. Also, the ox is only killed if
the owner knows about it. If the authorities do not contact the owner then the ox lives. In the bible the
slave s lives are more valued then when they were killed

Paths Of Glory Film Analysis
PATHS OF GLORY AND BLACK HAWK DOWN FILMS Below is a comparative essay about, paths
of glory and the black Hawks down. paths of glory is a film that begins in a large country house in
France where Genaral Mireau and General Brouland were discussing about the possibility of an attack
on the Ant hill. Mireau was pacing around the room while talking. General Mireau of the World War 1

that might lead him to his promotions. Although he accepts this impossible assignment to get
promoted, he tries to speak about how his men s lives are the most important to him, his future actions
revealed to be empty persuaded. Mireau passes his their objectives on to Dax who is in charge of a

A Room With A View Literary Merit Essay
A Room With a View Literary Merit I as a reader enjoy reading, however I do not do it as often as I
would like. I always have trouble starting books, I would say that the first five to chapters are the
hardest to get through. I admire how with reading you are able to make your own depiction of what s
happening, instead of seeing what others envisioned. To me a great book must have twists and turns to
keep me interested. I love being able to get to know the characters, feeling as if they are apart of your
own life, being able to see them as almost a friend in your own life. Taking their life lessons and
putting them to use in your own. I like more romantici books where they have to get over many
obstacles to obtain their great love. I also enjoy reading about a character who is able to turn their
troubles around and become better than they once were. As a little girl I was always read to; I wish
that I read more on my own when I was younger. I think it would have helped me get over the whole
trouble starting a book phase. I do see myself growing though. I praise older romantic/ coming of age
books with their complexity, symbolism, and messages, they have a certain personality that I adore
reading. Finding books like these make me enjoy reading a lot more than I did, say six years ago.
Literary merit to me would be described as the ability to read a book from the age of 15 to 90 and still
enjoy it (you may change meaning with in those years or look at it in a different

Leatherback Sea Turtle Research Papers
The Leatherback sea turtle being in the family of Dermochelyidae is a very unique type of sea turtle
out of the 7 8 species that there are (Foster). Leatherback Sea Turtles are the largest of the species of
sea turtles alive today. They are found in oceans all around the world and are known to travel large
distances throughout their lives ( Leatherback Sea Turtle Facts For Kids, With Pictures Video. Active
Wild). The Leatherback sea turtle has a very critical time period in their life, birth. The males and
females mate several weeks before nesting season begins often only being between the ages of 8 and
15 years of age , and after mating only the females come ashore to lay their eggs (World, Seaturtle.
Leatherback Sea Turtle. ). This routine takes place during the night, and during this time the female
sea turtle excavates a hole in the sand, depositing around 80 eggs, filling the nest, leaving a large,
disturbed area of sand that makes detection by predators difficult, and finally returning to the sea (
Leatherback Nat). The sex of the egg is determined by the temperature inside the nest, so a female
hatchling is produced at a higher temperature whereas male hatchlings are produced in colder
temperatures. When the eggs do hatch the males and females go their separate ways, Female

  • 2. The Many Languages of Australia and New Zealand As of 2013, there are many languages spoken both in Australia and New Zealand. Having a history dating as far as the 18th century, both countries constitute the Austral realm. Within its many aspects, one of the most notorious is its language. Known by the humorous effect some of its sentences and words provoke in people, the language of the Austral realm has helped shape the identity of Australia as well as New Zealand and has become an essential spectrum of their culture. In spite of its variations and the reasons behind its current status, this research paper will be focusing upon the four main languages of the Austral realm: English, New Zealand s and Australia s sign language, Australian Indigenous language and the Maori language in New Zealand. Each language has impacted the Austral realm in its own way and will be viewed both individually and in comparison within the realm s two states. English s history, what constitutes the signs in New Zealand s sign language, Australian accent... all of them are part of a culture both beautiful and unique and should, therefore, be treated with the same care as one would treat any relic. The Austral realm s languages are viewed by its people as more than only an idiom. Its evolution throughout decades of history has transformed both Australia and New Zealand into a unique society, filled with a mixture of words and idioms such as go for a burn and dog s breakfast, both of which exemplifies some of the reasons of the worldwide ... • 3. The Berlin Wall Essay example For thirty years, an iron curtain lay across Germany. This iron curtain was called the Berlin Wall, and it represented the divide between East and West Germany. It also represented the loss of East Germany s freedom and democracy. The Berlin Wall separated families and friends. This resulted in children growing up without a father and wives losing all communication with their husbands. The Berlin Wall poorly affected many people and businesses, and caused an ugly dent in Germany s history. After World War Two ended, Germany was in a horrible state. America would fly in all kinds of supplies on an average of one plane every three minutes (Levy 11). America, Great Britain, and France created three zones with democratic governments in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In response to this, the side of Germany under control of the Soviet Union became the German Republic of Germany, also known as West Germany. This was one of the first steps that would divide Germany for almost 30 years. The German Communist Party began restricting East German s ability to travel to the West in 1949 (Levy 13). Germany s Eastern government installed barbed wire and minefields fields along the border of East and West Germany. However, Eastern Germans still found a way to escape to the western side of Germany. The most popular way of escape was known as the five cent subway ride to freedom. There was a subway system in Berlin that linked it s Eastern and Western sides together. For five cents, eastern Germans would take the train from East Germany to West Germany. Then that person would slip through the border or take a plane or bus out. According to Debbie Levy, during the first six months of 1961, 160,000 Germans had escaped from the East to the West. From 1949 to 1961, more than three million Germans had escaped from the East to the West. This upset the Soviet Officials in charge of Germany very much. Half of the people escaping East Germany were under 25, and three quarters were under 45. The people escaping included: 16,000 engineers, 5,000 doctors, dentists, and veterinaries, 1,000 university professors and lecturers, and 15,000 high school and elementary teachers. The ... His father was a merchant and his mother stayed at home with him and his eight younger brothers and sisters. Bode never went to formal school, but his father was determined to teach him how to be a great merchant. However, Bode didn t want to become a merchant. He was very interested in mathematics, geography, and astrology. He decided to go against what his father was teaching him and pursue a career in Astrology instead. Bode had written about it in one of his studies but he had not credited Titius for his works, so people just assumed that it was Bode s findings. Bode later gave Titius the credit he deserved, hence the second name of the law, Bode Titius Law. Bode has many other contributions to astronomy. He found, in total, four different celestial bodies and rediscovered three others. He discovered M81, a spiral galaxy in Ursa Major; M82, an irregular galaxy also in Ursa Major; M53, a globular cluster in Coma Berenices; M92, another globular cluster, in Hercules; M64, a spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices, this one was discovered by Edward Pigott then Bode rediscovered it 12 days later; M48, an open cluster in Hydra, discovered by Charles Messier; and IC4665, an open open cluster in Ophiuchus, discovered by De Cheseaux. Also, in 1776 Bode created his version of the theory of the solar constitution. Later in 1795, Sir William Herschel created his theory of the theory of the solar constitution by tweaking Bode s version to fit his beliefs. • 10. The Debate Of Science And Medicine Throughout the course of human history people have been fascinated by the world around them. Ancient philosophers focused on the questions of human existence while early scientists searched for explanations beyond those that religion provided. Science became an outlet to provide answers to the unknown while creating further questions for future experimenters to seek information about. Simply observing and explaining nature failed to bring seekers of knowledge satisfaction. It was not enough to have knowledge, people desired to apply that knowledge, using it to create an advantage over nature. The eagerness to control nature sparked one of humankind s largest debates. Pre and post enlightenment thinkers alike questioned the role of science and whether or not it should continue on the path of being master to nature. In the modern world, science still faces the same debate especially within the realm of medicine. Modern medicine has greatly increased life expectancy by decreasing the number of communicable disease outbreaks, but still doctors and scientist want to go further. Science and medicine have come to a point where it is possible to make changes to the human genome and use stem cells to create other cell types. While these advances have great potential they are being experimented with in ways that seem unnatural and wobble between what is ethical or unethical. It became more prominent in 1993 when the Hawaiian Supreme court declared that state s prohibition against marriage between people of the same sex to be unconstitutional (Weiss, 2013). In response to this, there was significant public outcry and opponents of marriage equality asserted that marriage could only be defined as a union between a man and a woman. This resulted in prohibitive legislation that was enacted in 1996 known as the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) DOMA prevented the federal government from recognizing same sex marriages (Baker, 2013). DOMA also allowed each state to refuse recognition of same sex marriages performed in other states. Be that as it may, in the 21st century, public and legislative support for marriage equality has grown and various national polls conducted since 2011 show that a majority of Americans support marriage equality (Live Science Staff, 2011; Newport, 2011). On May 9, 2012, Barack Obama became the first sitting U.S. president to publicly declare support for the legalization of same sex marriage. The provision of DOMA, forbidding the federal government from recognizing same sex marriages was struck down by the Supreme Court on June 26th of 2013. There were many topics argued about, but slavery caused the most dispute within the country. In the 1850 s, the pro slavery South and the anti slavery North collided when the case of Dred Scott, a black slave who attempted to gain liberation, was brought to court. Because he had been held as a slave illegally, and ultimately denied the nullification of his status, he was therefore entitled to petition his liberation and gain freedom. Based on the slavery laws in Illinois where he resided, Dred Scott should have been liberated as he had legal standing to file a lawsuit against the government. His freedoms had been denied and when he was held illegally as a slave in the state of Illinois, these facts were not acknowledged when he proposed his freedoms, and therefore, had every right to petition his liberation. Debate of the constitutionality of The Missouri Compromise caused controversy within the Dred Scott case. The Missouri Compromise came about in 1818, when Missouri petitioned to become a slave state. At the time, there were 22 states, 11 slave and 11 non slave states; there was balance of representation in senate. The house of representatives, however, proposed an amendment that would ban the importation of slaves, and eventually all slavery. This bill was passed, and then moved on to senate where a modified version was passed that did not contain any restrictions on slavery. The house refused to accept the modifications made, and the bill was never passed. In 1819, Maine petitions for acceptance into the union but as a free state. Residential School Reconciliation Essay From the late 19th to late 20th century, the Canadian government implemented the Indian Residential School System (IRSS) in collaboration with the Anglican, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, and United Churches. Under the IRRS, Aboriginal children were forcibly torn from their families and made to live in residential schools. The children were forbidden from expressing Aboriginal culture, and were punished for doing so through verbal, physical, and sexual abuse. The purpose of the IRSS was to destroy Aboriginal culture and anglicize Aboriginal children. The residential schools were therefore a mechanism of cultural genocide, as they were the tools through which this purpose was executed. Approximately 150,000 children were traumatized by this ... Under the agreement, the Canadian government had to outline several steps that would be taken towards reconciliation with Aboriginal peoples: a compensation plan for survivors, establishing commemorative projects, and delivering a national apology for the IRSS. In 2008, then Prime Minister Stephen Harper delivered the apology on behalf of the Canadian government for the IRSS and it s continuing impacts. The IRSSA also involved the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), an Aboriginal body whose purpose is to inform about the IRSS, and to report on how the process of reconciliation should be navigated. The TRC defines reconciliation as establishing and maintain a mutually respectful relationship between Aboriginal peoples and non Aboriginal peoples [in Canada], which entails awareness of the past, and action to change behaviour . The steps taken towards reconciliation have been limited in success, because the Government of Canada has insufficiently addressed two compounding root issues: (1) the healing of residential school survivors, and (2) the mending of broken Aboriginal social and family ... Or maybe you believe that they re messages from a divine source? The human race has been long since fascinated with the concept that is our dreams. This separate state of consciousness, an alternate reality if you will, has captured the interest of the nation throughout history. Perhaps this is due to the fact that we spend a third of our life in this delusional state; roughly about six years, at the most, of our life dreaming, according to George Bernard Shaw. • 25. Notes On Motivation Theory And Motivation Chapter 2: Literature review 2.1. Motivation theory Types of motivation According to Pritchard and Ashwood (2008: 6), motivation is the process used to allocate energy to maximize the satisfaction of needs. It requires that one have a reason to do something. Well know researchers in this area Ryan and Deci (2010) believe that a person, who feels no drive or inspiration to act, can therefore be characterized as unmotivated, while someone who is energized toward a goal can be defined as motivated. People may also experience differing levels and types of motivation based on their individual backgrounds, which means that they vary not only in their amount of motivation, but also in the trend of that motivation (Ryan and Deci, 2000). Different things motivate people who come from different social, cultural, economic and/or financial backgrounds, or who have received different education. An employee s motives, socio economic background and value system will have an effect on how they work, as well as influence the outcome of their performance (Wyk and Erasmus, 2003: 315). Many researchers have worked in the field of motivation over the years, and developed different theories. Maslow s Hierarchy of needs theory proposes that an individual s most basic needs must be met before they will develop higher level desires (Goble, 1970). Maslow created the term metamotivation to explain the motivations of those people, which go beyond the extent of their basic needs and instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is important that the parents are not left childless and that the family name is carried on therefore it is important to have more than one child. Sons are highly favorable because they provide economic security, political strength, and endure social prestige (Kridli, 2002). If the first pregnancy in a family results in a girl, the desire to try again is high, if this child is a girl, they typically continue to try until they get a boy. If the first child is a boy, sometimes they will only have one (Kridli, 2002). Kridli says that there are three main pressures to have children in the Arabic culture, they include: 1. Traditional required for help and work in the fields and caregivers for elderly parents, 2. Familial pressure to have kids to be able to preserve the family name, 3. Religious desire to be fruitful and the belief in God and his powers to care for any child that is conceived (2002). Children and family are so important in this culture that family planning is only acceptable to space out children, it is not to be used to limit the size of a family. The practice of sterilization is not used unless the mother is in poor health and it would compromise subsequent pregnancies. Because family planning is not acceptable, knowledge on proper use of contraceptives is unknown to many Arabic people. Arab Americans are more accepting of contraceptives but need the education on options and importance of correct use (Kridli 2002). The invention of the steam engine, run by coal, allowed factories to be located in cities and no longer by water. This resulted in people flocking to these densely populated cities for job opportunities and in turn, eventually led to bad living conditions for many of the inhabitants. The Hammurapi s Laws and the readings from Exodus 21 23 have many similar qualities. But just like everything else they can be analyzed differently when they are being compared. While throughout both readings they talk about the goring ox law. And seeing how that one specific law can be viewed differently it shows how unlike the two places were. In one place they were realizing how much God does for them, and how he provides to them if they follow his laws or commandments. Whereas in the other (around Hammurapi) location Hammurapi just talks about they are following the laws, and them getting nothing in return. In the book of Exodus, it shows how ... For example, in The New Interpreter s Study Bible it shows just that If the ox has been accustomed to gore in the past and its owner has been warned but has not restrained it, and it kills a man or a woman, the ox should be stoned, and its owner shall be put to death. And that is the same in Hammurapi s Laws as well. But what also is noticed is that if you have money you can pay off your death. As it is stated in Exodus 20 40, the owner of that ox can pay for redemption If ransom is laid upon him (the owner of the ox), he must pay whatever is laid upon him to redeem his life. The NRSV rendering ... the owner shall pay whatever is imposed for the redemption of the victim s life. It does not seem right because the victim is dead so the money should not count for it. But it goes into explaining that the victims life is an interpretative addition. And throughout those two examples, you can see that the owner of the ox is only penalized if he knows his ox is killing people. If he does not know that his ox is killing people he does not get penalized or in other words put to death. Also, the ox is only killed if the owner knows about it. • 31. A Room With A View Literary Merit Essay A Room With a View Literary Merit I as a reader enjoy reading, however I do not do it as often as I would like. I always have trouble starting books, I would say that the first five to chapters are the hardest to get through. I admire how with reading you are able to make your own depiction of what s happening, instead of seeing what others envisioned. To me a great book must have twists and turns to keep me interested. I love being able to get to know the characters, feeling as if they are apart of your own life, being able to see them as almost a friend in your own life. Taking their life lessons and putting them to use in your own. I like more romantici books where they have to get over many obstacles to obtain their great love. I also enjoy reading about a character who is able to turn their troubles around and become better than they once were. As a little girl I was always read to; I wish that I read more on my own when I was younger. I think it would have helped me get over the whole trouble starting a book phase. I do see myself growing though. I praise older romantic/ coming of age books with their complexity, symbolism, and messages, they have a certain personality that I adore reading.
