Bona Fide Occupational Qualification Essay
Bona fide occupational qualification and the military
Title VII of the 1964 civil rights act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color,
religion, sex and national origin. Contrary to title VII, gender and religion under the bona fide
occupational qualification allows discrimination for certain jobs that calls for a particular group,
age limit etc. An example of a company using bona fide occupational qualification in the United
States Military. Every day bona fide occupational qualification is used in the United States
military to decline thousands of applicants daily because of their age. The age limit for joining the
navy is 34 for active duty and 39 for applicants attempting to join the reserves. Because of the
physical demand of basic training and the life of military personnel, the navy set 34 as their

The argument against women serving in the elite navy seal units is that women are not able to
meet the physical standards that are required by the Special Forces. Reports in basic training has
shown that women are able to meet and exceed the swimming, running and push ups when they
are placed in advanced divisions. A second argument that is made is that the price tag to send
women to Basic Underwater Demolition School or buds, would cost millions of dollars a year.
The answer to this argument is to change the training pipeline to mirror the men. Before any male
is sent to Buds, they must pass pre buds in basic training. If the trainee doesn t pass pre buds they
are reassigned into another job or discharged from active duty. Women have served in combat
roles for the last 25 years, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now it s time to give them
the opportunity to serve as navy seals by striking down outdates restrictions and perceptions of

7 Layers Of The OSI Model
OSI Layers The OSI model shows how the hardware and software function together in order to
enable communication between the computers. The OSI model is basically a framework of how
the device operate on the network. Assume that user A sends data to user B through internet, the
data has to travel the network to reach user B computer. During the data transfer, the data has to
navigate through many intermediate nodes. To ensure the data transfer from user A to user B
correctly and securely, so we need protocols to guide these data. These group of protocols are
called communication model. OSI model is one of the communication model. Open System

Analysis Of Machiavelli
Chasity L Wireman
Dr. Michael A. Lazarus
HIS 102 W1: Western Civilization II
10/25/2017
There are many reasons why Machiavelli is widely considered the beginner of modern political
thought, one of the many is he studied strictly the politicians, and businessmen. Machiavelli
recognized the political playing field as a vile place only for the most dominating and cunning of
political giants. One of Machiavelli s most famous work, On Principalities, or known by the other
title, The Prince, absolutely announced a break with previous political beliefs secured between
moral and religion system, it examines the nature of his views on power that are still somewhat in
existent today. Machiavelli discusses in this work power over the ... Show more content on

Without the power of the control the prince had over them many of the people would believe they
were free to do as they pleased without persecution.
Threw his book and most of his life Machiavelli was considered a consequentialist for believing
that actions should be courted by their aftermath. The way he thought you could measure a
consequence calculating your actions. He thought this way would be great way to rationalizing
actions others would consider to be against most morals. These thoughts slowly lead him into the
mind set of believe in what is then what it ought to be , his mind continuously worked out many
of the political problems and soon came to realize that it does not matter on how things should be
when what is is more of a challenge than just changing it to fit what the people and the nobles
want it to be. Living in the what is allows more of the power to be set to the holder rather than
making changes to the what it ought to be and allowing power to slowly slip into the public based
on their opinion.
Machiavelli s works and thoughts were lousily connected to how he viewed human nature, he
believed people were mostly self centered, even though many of their affections for others could be
won over and lost within a short period of time. They remained content as long they avoided
hardships and persecution. You may be able to trust them in

A World Divided by Those Who Can Afford Technology and...
Imagine a world divided by those who can afford technology and those who cannot. Those that
have access to technology are the richest in the world, and those that do not are stuck in poverty
with no way to improve their economic status. It sounds like the starting lines of a Hollywood
movie but it is a growing issue in America and abroad. The digital divide is the divide or gap
between people who have access to technology and those that do not. The divide is creating
problems for schools who require more and more assignments to be done on a computer. Also,
having the internetis having the power of information and knowledge that not everyone has the
ability to access. Other countries suffer from the digital divide at a staggering percentage
compared to US, UK and Europe. (Crawford) In the United States the ability to get internet
access is usually limited to where you live. There are many homes in the US where there is not
reliable internet access. There are elementary schools that require papers, homework and research
to be done on computers. The students that do not have easy access to a computer will have a
strong disadvantage over those that do. Schools are getting better and more advanced computer
labs but not all students can stay after school to complete their homework, if they are required to
take the bus. In 1995 the Commerce Department published its findings on the digital divide. They
found geographic, economic and racial gaps between

Motivations For Beowulf
The epic of Beowulf, the most precious relic of Old English, and, indeed, of all early Germanic
literature... ( While reading Beowulf, many have a series of questions throughout the epic poem.
On of the many questions is about what motivates the epic hero of the tale to danger his life.
Beowulf lives in Geatland and shows up in the land of the Danes and asks to fight a monster to
help them. He ends up fighting the monster s mother as well as a deadly dragon. What motivates
Beowulfto go after these three monsters? Beowulf goes after the monsters because of Anglo
Saxon codes, for vengeance, and fame. To begin, when Beowulf gets to the land of the Danes he
is only there because of his duty. In Anglo Saxon culture, if you were able to do something to help

Beowulf knows he will be injured trying to kill the beast but wants to do it anyways. Beowulf
brings a whole group of warriors to come watch him kill the dragon and help him if he becomes
too injured to continue. Beowulf says this before the fight, ...I will fight again, seek fame still...
(626). He knows how difficult the battle will be, he knows how old he is, yet he knows that he
would protect his people and gain fame from killing the monstrous beast. As Peter Leithart says
about the actions of Beowulf, The hero acts out of devotion to his lord or to his people, but dragon
acts out of malice. (Leithart). He says here that the reason that Beowulf goes to kill the dragon is
out of devotion to his people and to become more famous. Beowulf makes the ultimate sacrifice to
save his people. To conclude, Beowulf s motivations are fame, obligation, and vengeance. Without
the ideals of the Anglo Saxon times, Beowulf would have almost no reason to fight Grendel.
However, because of the codes that they had in their culture, Beowulf was created to show other
people how to act and what to do about duty and

Union Organization Essay
The goal of an organization is to promote an effective and fair labor practice. In some cases,
employees feel that the employer is only making decisions that will benefit him and the business
itself. Employers should operate their businesses and make a profit, but they should also consider
how business operations affect. Employees need to be included in a strategy to formulate a union
free organizations. In order to do so, employers should hold employees meetings, develop
communication, provide managementtrainings, and let employees know where the employers

Pro company: Company sometimes chose to run their own campaign. For example, try to convince
employees that their benefits are much greater without the interference of a Union.
You have rights, buts: Companies may force employees to vote against a union, but at the same
time, remind employees that the decision is solely up to them.
Almost all companies are entitled for union organization, but it is up to the employer to take crucial
steps that may prevent this from taking place. Employees join Unions because they don t feel
satisfaction with management, poor working conditions and the company is alleged to mistreat
employees. Strategies that help discourage union are: reasonable pay and benefits, open
communication with employees, acknowledgement, and fair work and practice policies.
From my short experience working as a HR assistant, I have learned that it is important that
employers need to have complete knowledge of the labor law before a Union knocks on the door.
It is important to train supervisors. Supervisors may commit an unlawful practice if they are not
properly training. Clear communication with supervisors will empower supervisors to do their
best. In addition, listening to supervisor s suggestions/complaints will create an open work

If enough writers use a given object or situation in enough works, we start to recognize and

In a situation where we encounter purely private symbols, there are some things we can fall back

Media/pop culture example: In Frozen, Elsa s gloves seem to be used to solely hide her magical

of showing people who she really is because she is different than the others. Likewise, Hans uses

The Story Of Us By Deb Caletti
The Story of Us is written by Deb Caletti and is a romance adventure book. It is set in a nice,
expensive country living space. Caletti wrote this book in honor and memory of her and her little
family of three s furry friend, Jupiter.
18 year old Cricket had loved her best friend, Janssen, for as many years as she had lived in their
secluded living space. When Cricket was younger her parents got a divorce, forcing Cricket s
mom, Cricket and her brother, Ben, out of the house and into something better for all of them.
When they first moved away from all their family friends, it was a hard transition. They had never
lived in the country and of course they never really heard any of the country animals (coyotes,
wolves, hyenas, etc.) in person. The adjustment wasn t easy for the kids or for their mother, so
they decided to get a puppy to keep them busy. They named this puppy Jupiter and loved her
with their whole hearts. Janssen was the boy who lived up the road and was always over at their
house. He and Cricket grew in their relationship when Cricket s dad became aware of her mother
s successful life. While he was there he began to get very physical with Cricket s mom. Janssen
stepped in, as a 17 year old, and very harshly said not to mess with this family or with him. After
that Janssen and Cricket were inseparable. Their relationship grew as well as them. Time came for
Cricket to graduate and the days were rough. She could either choose Janssen, or the college that she

Political And Political Politics Of The Twentieth Century
What is the history of political cartooning?
The history of political cartooning is used for social and political messages which goes back to the
eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in America with Benjamin Franklin s Join or Die , which
depicts a snake whose severed parts represent the colonies and unless put together are sure to perish.
Since Benjamin Franklin started political cartooning back in the eighteenth century, people have
started using their artistic skills to attack, argue and add their opinions on the most important
political issues of the day. Political cartoons were often posted in the newspapers, posted on walls
or passed from person to person. By the end of the nineteenth century, they were an important part

Although there were four New England colonies, Benjamin Franklin gathered into one category to
stress the need for the colonial unity. At the time of the cartoonbeing made, the colonists firmly
debated making west of the Appalachian Mountains bigger and fighting the French and the Indians,
which were their allies.
As publisher and printer, Benjamin Franklin drafted several cartoons that persuaded colonists to
rebel against England. Join or Die appeared alongside Benjamin Franklin s editorial about the
disunited state of the colonies and that means to unite or to be attacked by French and Indian allies.
Ahead of time, Benjamin Franklin knew that in order to convince the colonists, he first had to
convince the public. Straight forward and powerful images, followed by a clear and expressive
prose has the power to create conversation among the populations. With drawing the cartoon,
Benjamin Franklin voiced a strong opinion in a keen, potent and sophisticated way. The second
American cartoonist was not as famous as Benjamin Franklin was in American history, his name
was Paul Revere. Paul Revere was a silversmith and an engraver who created incendiary cartoons
disguised as prints of news events. By the time of Abraham Lincoln s presidency, more than dozens
of cartoons had appeared every year in magazines, newspapers, penny prints, posters, lithographs
and broadsides.

Changing the Culture at British Airways Essay
Changing the Culture at British Airways
Question #1
Life at old British Airways lacked a unifying corporate culture. The 1971 merger of British
European Airways (BEA) and British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC), by the British
Airways Board, only succeeded in putting an umbrella over two separate mature entities. The focus
of the BEA had been to build a European airline infrastructure. BOAS was an innovator and
pioneered the first jet passenger service. Neither company was concerned with cost or profit. British

Essay about The Role of Violence and Television
Television and Violence
One of the increasing problems in today`s society is the violence caused by watching too much
television. In 1950`s only 10% of American households had television, but today that number
reached higher levels and 99% of households own one or more. Television is most of the time
amusement and entertainment for many young people, especially children. Television itself has an
impact on everyone. Some researches show that television has good sides and that can be
entertaining and educational at the same time, where children learn more about cultures, places,
and they use their knowledge when it`s necessary. Yet we need to remember that only certain
programs are carrying positive messages which affect children ... Show more content on

Therefore, some see television as an unhealthy imposition into a child s learning process,
substituting easy pictures for the discipline of reading and concentrating and transforming the
young viewer into a hypnotized non thinker (Langone 48). Children while growing up and
spending 4 5 hours in front of television everyday will imitate aggressive acts shown on TV. The
only solution to this is to prevent it at the beginning. Parents can certainly control how much
television their children will have on daily basis. Television should not be in every room of the
house, especially children`s room, where they have the opportunity to watch shows while parents
are busy doing other stuff. Those violent acts certainly can be reduced by control which starts at the
beginning instead of waiting until everyone is helpless to improve the situation.
Perhaps one of the crucial problems is the possibility of developing the lack of social skills.
Children, while spending time at home in front of television tend to develop anti social skills,
which will affect their future and their entire life. Watching television shows, in most cases replaces
activities that children should be doing at their age. Instead of reading, learning, playing with their
friends, doing chores, having a physical activity, they sit at home. This way of antisocial activity
affects family too, because

Anglo Saxon Era
History of The Anglo Saxon Era And an Analyses of Epic Poem Beowulf The Anglo Saxon
Period was an historical era lasting for approximately 600 years, from 410 To 1066. Throughout
this time period Britain s political authority began to change drastically. Federalism, a continental
social, economic, and political system was on the rise. This system consisted of classifications
such as nobles, lords, knights, and serfs. Many of the information we now know about the Anglo
Saxon era is derived from the Anglo Saxon Chronicle , which was a year by year account for all
the major events of the time. The Anglo Saxon chronicle proves that many of the literature and art
was heavily influenced by political and life events. After the Romans had conquered the Celtic tribe
of Britain, the Roman Empire began to fall ,and Roman legions left Britain to defend Rome. The
Anglo Saxonsbegan to invade Britain s eastern shore. Their Warriors drove the British into the
mountains and the Anglo Saxons took the land as their own. The Anglo Saxons settlers sculpted the
art and literature of this influential era. They were considered to be their own masters in the new
land and they did not attempt to keep the art and literature that was first established by the Romans.
They replaced many Roman stone buildings with new wooden structures, and began to speak their
own languages , which has heavily influenced the New English we now speak today. They also

Immigration Argumentative Essay
When immigration was controlled, measured, and coupled with a confident approach to
assimilation, America not only survived but thrived. Various ethnic groups enriched America with
diverse art, food, music, and literature while accepting a common culture of American values and
institutions (Hanson). America has always been known for being a melting pot, considering it is a
country filled with many diversities. Little do we know that with diversity arises many problematic

engineers, 27 percent of mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientist, and 24 percent of
physical scientists. Additionally, immigrant innovators have contributed to more than 75 percent of

Americans jobs , but that is not the case. Most immigrants are actually more than willing to do
twice the work that Americans are not in the job forces that they are placed in. This is because the

immigrants are still willing to put in twice the effort so they can benefit themselves and their

Aristotle s Tragic Hero in Shakespeare s Macbeth Essay...
Aristotle s Tragic Hero in Macbeth
Aristotle and Shakespeare lived ages apart, but Aristotle had a great affect on Shakespeare s plays.
In Shakespeare s tragic play, Macbeth, the character of Macbeth is consistent with Aristotle s
definition of the tragic hero.
Aristotle s tragic hero is a man who is characterized by good and evil. He is a mixture of good
characteristics and bad characteristics. For example, Macbeth was an honorable Thane of Glamis.
He was a valiant fighter who had protected his country of Scotland well, but he wanted to be king.
His vaulting ambition caused him to kill King Duncan which ended up in his fall. Aristotle s tragic

However, as soon as the witches spark ambition in him, he is no longer trustworthy and becomes
evil and deceiving. Even before he reaches his home, thoughts of murder creep into his head and he
is overcome with the desire to be powerful.
The prince of Cumberland: that is a step on which I must not fall down, or else o erleap, for in
my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires, let not light see my black and deep desires, the eye wink at
the hand. Yet let that be, which the eye fears when it is done to see (Shakespeare21).
At this point in the play, Macbeth s ambition starts to come into view. The seed has been planted,
and there is no turning back. Macbeth becomes bloodthirsty and powerstricken forcing himself
further and further into a web of ambition from which he is unable to detatch himself.
Macbeth s ambition is what allowed him to become powerful. Without ambition, it is impossible
to achieve goals. Therefore, ambition is what allowed Macbeth to overcome his obstacles and
come closer to his final goals. As soon as he developed the trait of vaulting ambition, Macbeth is
able to make his life fall into place exactly the way he wants it to. He first murders Duncan so
that he will become king. Macbeth s ambition is directly the cause of this tragic incident. This
murder is in cold evil blood by Macbeth s own hand; at this point he starts seeking his future on

Question 3
What steps did Scouts Canada take to reposition its offering?
An initial aspect that Scouts Canada has reconstructed is their experiences, with the hopes of
expanding their potential scout member range.
The case study stated that members would start when they were very young and lose interest after
a few years. So one of the things Scouts Canada had to do was find a way to retain them past those
few years. The reason why Scouts Canada faced its loss of potential members was because they
failed to understand their market segments. They could not tailor their product or membership so

Use Of Small Volume Fluids On Scale Of The Field Of...
ABSTRACT
Microfluidics biochips are revolutionary devices in the field of clinical diagnostics, DNA
analysis and molecular biology. Biochips involve various fields of science and engineering i.e.,
physics, chemistry, biochemistry, nanotechnology, fabrication technology and computer science.
It uses small volume fluids on scale of micro to nano liter for automatically carrying out the
reactions needed for some biochemical assays. In this report I have covered basic overview of
biochips, kinds of biochips, areas of research, existing problems and finally presented work done
till now in area of sample preparation specifically dilution and mixing Algorithms for Digital
Microfluidics Biochips.
INTRODUCTION
Microfluidics biochips are emerging devices for analysis of biological assay, and have its potential
application in the field of healthcare because of its point of care diagnostic capability. These
chips are of very small size typically of few centimeters [4]. These chips also have its application
in Biological computing it can be used as sample preparation primitive which reduces the
operations time. DNA hybridization can be reduced to 4min from 24hrs [2] by using it. Due to its
small size and low cost it feasible to use in place of bulky convention diagnosis devices.
These biochips also used to monitor toxicity of air and water. It has many advantages such as
micro liter fluids amount required for assay operation, high speed analysis, less cost in

Music in Our Everyday Lives
Our everyday lives are affected by music. People listen to it in the car, while grocery shopping,
in the movies, at home, and practically anywhere else possible. There are many different types
and styles of music, the most influential being Hip Hop/Rap music, followed by Rock and Roll.
Music is often a mood altering device used to make the listener feel a sense of belonging,
happiness, or sorrow. The different genres of musiccan be used to describe a certain group of
people, whether it be by clothing, style, attitude, or sometimes ones social class. Hip Hop/Rap
music is believed to have the most influence on the way a listener of that genre, acts and carries on
their life. (Lommel 244)

In the underground music scene, bands sometimes will not even have enough money to rent a
cheap hotel for a night to catch up on sleep, as well as bathe, certain kids from the area the band
has played last will offer them food, a hot shower, as well as a place to sleep that night.
(Greenwald 141) This would never be possible in the underground rap scene.
The Tightness of the Indie scene is one that has been a reason for the success of many bands that
have worked their way to the top. Yellowcard is a band that has recently found huge success with
their last album Ocean Avenue . The reason this band had so much initial support and record
sales for their album, was because of the underground s love for this band. A certain website
called Absolutepunk.net was one of the biggest reasons this band found success in huge
numbers the way that they were able to do so. (Du Nover 119) This further shows the way today
s underground scene is one of the tightest there has ever been. There are many different
noticeable ways in which the type of music a person listens to, ties into their daily activities. The
most prominent is clothing style, as well as physical appearance. The Punk Rock/Emo teenager,
has a certain type of dress that often involves a few of the following things, hair that is short in
back but long in front, or hair that is multi colored and long, a certain fondness of facial piercings,

Kill A Mockingbird Anticipation Guide
To Kill a Mockingbird Anticipation guide 1. Have you ever stood up for something that wasn t
popular with everyone else? Do you find it difficult to stand up for what you believe of no one
else agrees? Yes, we have all stood up for something that wasn t popular with others. For
example, in elementary school I would try to tell my classmates which bin to throw what
garbage in but no one wanted to take the time to throw things on the right bin. I find it is
difficult to stand up for things that others don t believe because if you are not someone looked
up to and your cause is unpopular, no one will follow Predictions: I can assume that in the story
a character will have to choose to stand up for something that isn t popular with others and will
find it difficult to make them agree. 2. Have you ever embarked on a plan or game that was sure
to fail? If so, why did you choose to go ahead with it? Yes, I have embarked upon a plan that was
sure to fail in grade 8. The plan was for the intermediate division in my school to hide behind the
portables after recess as an April fools prank on our teachers. We chose to go ahead with it
anyway to see what the reactions of the teachers were. Predictions: With this question, it can be
assumed that in To Kill a Mockingbird, one will find a character, or multiple characters will
intend to win a no win scenario, back down from it, or find a way to cheat the system. 3. Have
you ever experienced prejudice? If so, under what

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Presidential Candidates
The Strengths and Weaknesses of the System of Choosing Presidential Candidates
It seems reasonable to conjecture that the Achilles heel of the modern presidency is one of
recruitment. The long winded delegate nomination process could in theory be replaced by a
daylong direct election of presidential candidates. Instead, tradition dictates that the presidential
race is drawn out quadrennially over the pre primary, primary, Party Convention and campaign
seasons. All four phases influence the outcome of candidate selection and much also depends on
campaign finance, the role of the media and the nominees themselves.
Although the process is considered a complex, drawn out affair in the eyes of ... Show more content

In Caucuses, the power to select delegates, who are sent to nominate presidential candidates at
the National Party Convention, rests with Party activists who meet first at a local, then county
and finally at a state level to make their choices. The caucus system propounds the strength of the
Party elite who have an overriding influence as to who is chosen. As Ragsdale observed (1993,
p.95), the system tended to be dominated and controlled by party bosses, as deals were cut in
smoke filled rooms, rather than by ordinary rank and file members. This was far from democratic,
and since the controversy surrounding Humphrey s nomination for the Democratic Party in 1968,
the McGovern Fraser Commission established reforms which saw the advent of the Media
Primary. Since 1972, this procedure has become the system with gravitas: 77% of the votes cast by
Republican delegates in 1988 came from those selected by primaries. These state wide intra party
elections mean that any supporters can vote for a nominee to send to the National Convention and
although these elected delegates still formally select the presidential candidate, it is rarely more
than a ratification of the preferences expressed by ordinary voters. This encouraged a higher level
of political participation, as voters could feel a part of the decision making process. Some
primaries, such as Michigan State, saw a significantly

Much Ado About Nothing Quote Analysis
In the evaluation of the third act of the play, Much Ado About Nothing written by William
Shakespeare, it is clear and evident that one quote stands out among all the others to show the
most meaning and the most important to the vitality of the third act of the play. In the text,
Shakespeare states, The word is too good to paint out her wickedness. I could say she were
worse. Think you of a worse title, and I will fit her to it. Wonder not till further warrant. Go but
with me tonight, you shall see her chamber window entered, even the night before her wedding day.

(3.2.102 109). When Don John, the play s infamous villian, decides to trick Claudio into thinking
that Hero is disloyal, it demonstrates the overall feeling of sabotage in the third act, all in

Wealth Gap Between Whites And Minorities Essay
Wealth Gap in America America has a lengthy history on how it became the powerful country it is
today, and although its history can be interrupted in many ways (depending who you ask) one
thing that is for certain is that wealth has yet to be distributed equally amongst minorities.
According to the article Income inequality matter; Extreme gap in wealth makes society unstable.
Philip Meyer claims that the wealth gap between whites and minorities has existed since Ronald
Reagans term of presidency (A9). Although Ronald Reagans term ended many years ago the
mistakes that caused this imbalance of wealth (and its aftermath) while he was in office remains
almost if not exactly the same as when the problem initially began (Meyer A9). The wealth gap
continues to target minorities and is affecting our communities at an alarming rate, however, many
attempts have been made to reduce its existence but the factors of income inequality,
unemployment rates and discrimination before and after our recent 2007 recession prevents our
country from eliminating such a toxic problem. The wealth gap is a problem that which the hard
working people of America know very little about. Using Ignorance towards this problem does not
cease its existence of it but rather contributes to growth because it s not being addressed. It s a
problem that seems to affect mainly the minorities of the U.S. population, such as Blacks and
Hispanics. However, not everyone is in the dark about this lingering ever

Data Catalog For Enterprise Geodatabase
Summary: Spatial information is usable when it has metadata, as it is straightforward to follow
and find datasets. GIS data catalog for Enterprise Geodatabase is a project which allows
acquiring information regarding the availability of GIS datasets and related properties such as
quality, description, the point of contact, extent, etc. The audience for the project are the internal
customers looking for data. Managing spatial metadata records are critical for maintaining an
organization s investment in spatial data. Since the year 2009, UServices support terabytes of
data. However, the data does not consist of metadata. The data is occasionally inconsistent,
foreign or obsolete. Data catalog will allow them as a department to achieve the following goals:
Support a high quality of data Supports decision making Provide consistent information to the
customers. Provide an inventory of data assets Help figure and keep up the value of data Help

The Conflict Between The Middle East And Christianity
The world now is facing a set of significant problems. I believe that there are three main
International threats to global stability, the rapid rise of extremism, international disputes over
territories, and corruption. Solutions to these issues facing humankind are compulsory to avoid
some expected consequence. No more than two years ago people thought of Osama bin Laden
and al Qaeda organisation if we mentioned the nightmare, extremism. Instead, nowadays the new
forces of evil would be the ISIS, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. ISIS
originates from Al Qaeda in Iraq. I think that the occur of ISIS is under expectation. It has been a

Firstly, here are some ambitious events showing that ISIS is threatening the world security and
order. On November 13th, 2015, the Islamic State killed more than 100 people at several
locations in Paris. On October 31st, 2015, 224 people died when a Russian jetliner crashes after
leaving Egypt s Sinai Peninsula, and ISIS claimed their responsibility. On March 20th, 2015,
137 death were caused by suicide bombers attack two mosques in Yemen. Except the casualty,
their violence behaviours also aroused fear and chaos across the world. As a result, these terror
attacks had changed the way of our lives. According to Hedley Bull (1995), one of the most
fundamental goals of the anarchical society is upholding the independence of member states,
maintaining peace, and helping to secure the normative foundations of all social life, which
includes the limitation of violence (Jackson, 2013). To save the world basic human values,
security, order and justice, those countries in power must weaken if not topple these dangerous
radicals from their pedestals. The United States need to start a legal battle as the state is supposed
to ensure the value of security and protect their citizens. Other than that, another solution for the
extremism is to wait until either the world vital energy is not petrol oil anymore, or the oil
resources in the middle east run out. However, it will probably take a long time for this solution.

The Puritanical Bans Introduced By The Almohads
In addition to the puritanical bans introduced by the Almohads, the movement also subjected the
dhimmi population to violence. Going further than the Almoravids, the Almohads were responsible
for massacres and forced conversions of Jews and Christians alike, driving them into Christian
Iberia. By 1200, the indigenous Christian inhabitants of al Andalushad, for the most part, been
forcibly converted or rooted out. The only Christians left in the area were prisoners of war,
mercenaries, and merchants. To emphasize the severity of the treatment of the dhimmis by the
Almohad rulers, in 1224, an Almohad chronicler, al Marrakushi, made the claim that, No pact of
protection has been signed between us and the Jews or the Christians since the rise of Almohad
power. It was not only the Christians who were persecuted by the Almohad movement, as Jews
were also the object of abject discrimination. In addition to his previous statement, al Marrakushi
also noted that In all the regions of the west there are no synagogues or churches. The Almohads
under Caliph Yaqub (1194 1199) became increasingly paranoid about crypto Judaism in Jewish
families which had converted to Islam. Such was his paranoia and contempt for these families that
he demanded that they put on a humiliating garb consisting of black clothing with sleeves that

A Report On A Flat Tire Essay
A flat tire is really inconvenient. Those who have used a car or even a vehicle may have at one
time or another experienced this ordeal. Sometimes when somebody is headed to a very important
occasion and is very descent he or she may experience a flat tire while on his or her way to the
occasion. Motorists in the last century used to change tiresby the road side more often unlike now.
There are a few tips that one can use to mitigate this situation.
1. Be prepared
This planning is very fundamental as it saves you time and even money. It adds up to the
convenience since garages sometimes are way too far from the location of the motorists. It is
advisable to have some mechanic gloves, a good waterproof flashlight, hand cleaner and paper
towels. Tyvek overalls saves you the cost of cleaning your clothes often when such a thing happens.
In addition do not forget wheels chocks, tire sealant, tire gauge and flares should be in the
Rubbermaid bin.Sometimes you can even fit in a collapsible snow shovel since flat tires happen
throughout the year.
2. Location
It is advisable to choose your tire changing place very carefully. You should drive slowly to the
next exit ramp so that you can stay away from main flow of traffic as you change your tire.
Sometimes the line separating the traffic from you is not an invisible force field. Sometimes the
car is left leaning leaving insufficient room. In this case you will need a level solid surface in order
to jack up a car safely.
3. Be aware

The Rise Of The Progressive Era
During the Progressive Era, which was known as a large reform movement, there was a widespread
across the United States of political reform and social activism. The main focus and goal of the
Progressives and their movement was lowering government involvement and eliminating corruption
in the government. Progressives reacted to problems caused by large factories and cities.
Furthermore, they attacked big corporations, such as the Armour meat packing company and
others, for how harsh their practices were. The progressives exposed these companies and how they
treated workers, removed competitors, and set high prices. The meatpackingindustry capitalized
when the growth of livestock farming in the Midwest started to grow rapidly. Meatpacking
companies and industries, such as the Armour meat packing company, handle the slaughtering,
processing, and distribution of animals including cattle and pigs. Although the meatpacking
industry created a lot of jobs, working in a meatpacking company was not luxurious because the
factories were unsanitary, unregulated, and tremendously dangerous.
In the Progressive Era, influential journalists wanted to expose the government and big business of
their flaws to American citizens with using factual and proven evidence against them. Muckrakers,
who are journalists that seek out the truth of corruption among the government and business
leaders, became well known due to how many people were amazed by the revealed injustices and

The Awakening Personality Traits
In Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, the main character, Edna Pontellier, has three distinct
personality traits that define her throughout the book. One of her most perceptible traits is her
irresponsibility, especially in how she cares for her children and husband. Related to this
peculiarity, is her capacity to behave childish, particularly in terms of how she allows her emotions
to sweep her away as well as her inability to think about the potential consequences. Her most
prominent personality trait the one that forms the backbone of the conflict, is Edna s eagerness to

This ending is so surprising because generally at the end of a novel, the main character has learned

Leonardo Da Vinci s Lady With Unicorn
In 1934 1936 Raphael restored a female portrait Lady with Unicorn. Leonardo Da Vinci had
painted this piece in the year 1505. Leonardo was a high renaissance painter and this picture is a
high renaissance piece. The time period of when it was created and the idealized figure, clarity,
and bright colors depict the type of renaissance piece. In the portrait a lady with long blonde hair,
and blue eyes is holding a greenish colored unicorn in her lap, which gives the portrait its name. It
was an oil painting that was applied to a wooden canvas. This piece was actually inspired by
Leonardo Da Vincis Mona Lisa(Young women with Unicorn , n.d.). The subject in the portrait has
been identified as Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The painting was attributed to Raphaelwhen he
restored it. Removal of a heavy repainting revealed the unicorn in this portrait. The unicorn is a
representation of purity in the medieval romance in place of Catherine s wheel. In the painting the
five elements of renaissance perspective are all portrayed.

Critical Commentary: Quests and the Development of the Hero
The Hobbit follows the typical pattern of the Quest in many ways. Like most quest heroes, Bilbo
begins the story ignorant and untried, and he undergoes a series of preliminary adventures which
help him in two ways. First, they give him the opportunity to learn about the world and the extent
and proper use of his own powers. Second, they bring him the friends and talisman that he will need

Brief Commentary on the Movie Apollo 13
Paying close attention to the crew members, one would notice how they should be getting along.
They have to work together no matter what and be able to stay calm. If not, it could be a life or
death situation. There were parts in the movie where one of the members had got frustrated and
started arguing with another member. The third member had to calm them down. If they were not
to calm down, things could have got messed up and unwanted situations or hazards could have
happened.
Observing the interactions between the engineers at the mission control center, one could see
that they are an important aspect of the journey. They have to react accordingly and calm when
they get into a tough situation. One could tell that they clearly get frustrated but when a crisis
occurs during the mission, they go on to try and solve the problem, even if it s frustrating at
first. My opinion of Gene Kranz is that he wants to get work down and he wants to get work
done right away. He puts a lot of pressure on his peers, but I think he is a great leader. He doesn t
put pressure on them to be mean, but he does it because he needs them to work fast and efficient. I
personally would want to buy into his ideas and solutions, because he did help resolve a lot of the
problems that went on with the Apollo 13 mission. The issue they needed to solve that was similar
to our project was when they had to come up with a solution to fix the oxygen leakage. They had to

steroids should remain illegal due to the the profound negative effects they provide from health
related risk to unfair competition in sports caused by these drugs.
Anabolic steroids provide the benefit of increased muscle mass but at a cost of endangering
your healthy both physically and mentally. To understand this issue we first need to look at the
common side effects provided with these drugs. Severe acne, increased risk of tendinitis, liver

circulatory problems and infections such as HIV or hepatitis. These are just a few of the main
health issues associated with the drugs but a list literally a page long would still not cover all the
health issues associated with steroids. Steroids have even resulted in more severe problems where
one study showed that there was an 11% increase in chance of death found from steroid use
(Dosomething). These are some of the physical problems associated with the drugs but did not
even mention the mental issues caused. Clear links have been found that steroids can cause
depression, concentration problems and aggressive behavior leading to outburst and large amounts
of aggression. Irritability has also been found along with a boat load of other physiological
disorders caused by this nasty drug. All this evidence provides strong reasons why

Good Vs. Evil In Dracula By Bram Stoker
Evil never conquers because good always overcomes it. A good example of this is the book
Dracula by Bram Stoker because the author expresses the nature of good vs. evil. Dracula wants to
come to London because he wants to turn everyone into vampires. The basic background of the
book Dracula is when Jonathan Harker, a realtor who is sent to Transylvania to complete a
transaction with Draculaso he can come to England. What Harker does not know is that Draculahas
a plan for world domination. Well, while Harker is on a train to Transylvania he enters the east, a
section of Europe whose peoples and customs will be for the most part, strange and unfamiliar
(Dracula, 20). Harker arrives at Bistritz on the eve of St. George s Day,... Show more content on

He speaks in perfect English and welcomes Harker inside, shaking his hand with an ice cold, vice
like grip (Dracula, 55). Dracula explains to him that he will no be able to make the trip to
London, but one of his trusted servants will be going along with Harker back to London. After
supper Jonathan analyzes Dracula and notices one very strange feature, his mouth is thick and
white; they cover sharp white teeth, which stick out over his lip. What Jonathan does not know
is that those teeth are canine teeth only found in animals. There are exceptions, for instance,
vampires have these teeth so they can puncture the human s carotid vessel in their neck and suck
their blood. The first time that Jonathan sees Dracula s cannibal teeth grow is when Harker starts
shaving. He accidentally cuts himself and Dracula leaps for his throat so he can suck his blood.
Harker touches his crucifix and Dracula s demonic fury vanishes. The strangest event that Harker
notices in Dracula s castle is Dracula emerge from his room on the floor below, slither out, head
downward, in lizard fashion, with his cloak spread out around him like great wings (Dracula,
179). This shows that Dracula is not a person. He is a presence, an absence that requires
concealing (Wolf, 368). This tells Harker that something is very wrong with this man. He recalls
how the peasants behaved

Joaquin Guzman El Chapo
Joaquin Guzman best known as El Chapo is the world s greatest drug lord. He has been captured
three times and has been able to escape twice, once in a laundry basket and the second time he
managed to escaped in an underground tunnel built in his shower cell. He was recently recaptured
after being fugitive for about six months. Joaquin entered the drugbusiness as a teenager and later
became in charge of the Sinaloa cartel. He shops and ships by some estimates more than half of all
the cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana that come into the United States (Penn).
Many argue that El Chapo is a really bad person that only does a lot of harm to the citizens in
Mexico, but what most don t know is that he actually helps some of them.... Show more content on

To understand this sentiment, consider the fact that out of the 120.8 million people who call
Mexico home, over half 52.3 percent, or roughly over 63 million live at or below the country s
poverty line. Couple that with a declining confidence in government (only one third of all
Mexicans trust elected officials), and you create a window for the population to turn elsewhere
for role models (Martinez). A large part of mexico lives in poverty because the lack of job
opportunities the government offers to the people. In a letter written to explain why they
marched in favor of El Chapo explain how Guzman helps people get jobs El Chapo and the drug
trade provide employment opportunities that pay well. A dream come true, in places where the
government does not lend a helping hand (Rueda). The drug business creates many jobs for
people to survive in such a corrupt country that cannot provide enough jobs. That drugs destroy.
Unfortunately, as I said, where I grew up there was no other way and there still isn t a way to
survive, no way to work in our economy to be able to make a living (Somaiya) El Chapo told
Pen in his interview as Somaiya explains. El Chapo began working in the drug business at a
young age. His family s poverty is what made Guzman join the cartels. Guzman started from the
bottom and worked his way up. Now he is incharge of the Sinaloa cartel and is a very rich man.

The Spectrophotometric Determination of an Equilibrium...
The Spectrophotometric Determination of an Equilibrium Constant.
Abstract:
The report presents determination of equilibrium constant for the formation of a complex ion
FeSCN2+. This was accomplished using a colorimeter to measure absorbance of some known
concentration solutions in order to generate the calibration curve. The equation of the graph was
used to compute the equilibrium concentrations of the reactants and products, needed to calculate
the equilibrium constant for the reaction. I. Introduction:
The purpose of the experiment is to determine the equilibrium constant for the formation of a
complex ion iron (III) thiocyanate (FeSCN2+). This ion is formed in the reaction of iron (III) ion

Advantages Of Trade And Specialization
Before the industrial revolution, most economic growth came from trade and specialization rather
than technological growth. But trade had its advantages and its disadvantages. In pre modern
trade, the major defect was the principal agent problem, and this problem would prevent any rise
of trade, but since early, people could manage to find some ways to deal with the principal agent
problem in order to exchange goods and services and to trigger economic growth.
In pre modern era, some societies started getting benefits from long distance trade and
specialization rather than technological change. Trade was encouraged by the similarities such as
religion, currency and language in addition to proximity of societies. Due to a lack in a proper legal
system and contract enforcement, principal agent problems were significant but societies always
found indirect rules and informal mechanisms, in order to continue exchanging goods and services.
As Persson said, the principal agent problem is the type of problem that arises when an agent is
hired by a principal and the former has more information than the latter, and the parties do not share
the same objectives. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was in the agent best interest to be honest and not to make mistakes. At that period in the
medieval trade, there were two mechanisms of trust: ex ante and fear of god. Ex ante corresponds
to the reputation of the agent in his past transactions, while under the fear of god mechanism , the
agent is honest out of desire to keep his position. As solidarity and loyalty were strong values in
the relationship between principals and agents, any mistakes were reported, and thus before hiring
any agent, the principal would first ask about his ex ante

The Use Of Surveillance As A Mechanism Of Control
The use of Surveillance as a Mechanism of Control Elen1003 Project 2; Topic No. 2; Tutor:
Deneo Mfenyana 1036603 James Phillips Surveillance is an extremely effective mechanism to
control a large group of people or society in our modern world. This method of control can prove
to have a strong effect on a person s sense of privacy and can induce a strong sense of fear and
anxiety. There are various methods from which government agents can monitor a group of
people. In the novel, 1984 by George Orwell, these methods and theories are depicted very well.
These methods include, the use of Telescreens (similar to CCTV), spying organizations
including undercover police, and a psychological mechanism of anxiety, called the Panopticon
Effect . George Orwell s 1984, is not a prediction of how he thought that we would live in 1984,
but is a warning of what can happen, if we allow a dictatorship or totalitarian state to take control
In general, citizens of a country may be prone to accept certain methods of control, provided that
their country is able to justify valid reasons for it. This has been implemented in the past, for
example, during the Great Depression, the citizens of America had to accept methods such as
rationing, as it was the only way to be able to access basic needs in times of no money and jobs
(Rationing and Scrap Drives in Rural America, no date). The citizens may be told that surveillance
will be in their best interest that it will protect them and

Racial Illusions In The Movie
Sam Dawson is a single father, who has a developmental disability but is well adjusted to society.
Although, Sam often encounters limitations due to his mental disability, nevertheless he is able
to take care of Lucy. Sadly, his life deviates when Lucy turned eight and a judge assume that Mr.
Dawson was not competent to care for Lucy s wellbeing. It was not until the family court
realized that it was in Lucy s best interest to reside with her dad. The film shows a contrast in
Sam idea of being a decent father and the perspective of the government system. The language,
images, and themes used in the film to portray Sam as a childlike, lacking basic scholastic skills,
who is not capable of fulfilling his parental obligations. The government only sees Sam s disability
and the limitations he would place on Lucy. Sadly, the movie leaves a taste of dissatisfaction
because negativity and judgement are the prominent feeling towards Sam and his situation and
these judgements only enforce the idea of Sam not being a capable father.
Throughout the movie, language was used as a form of limitation and segregation towards Sam.
Everyone was aware that Sam had the intellectual capacity of a seven year old, which meant that
he could hold primitive conversations and had minimal knowledge, through this lack of diction
and knowledge it was possible for the court able to exemplify the risk of having a person with
disability raise a young girl. In the film, Mr. Turner mentioned Mr. Dawson, you

The Causes Behind the Tragedy of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet is
a tragic love story written by William Shakespeare. The play is based around two lovers, who

northern Italy. The play is generally involving love and family honour, in the days when the play
was written, parents expected to be obeyed they even decided who their children should marry.
Romeo and Juliet go against their parent s wishes and the feud when they fall in love. There are

However at the time the Friar was thinking of reuniting the families, rather than other
circumstances. The Friar influences the play s outcome dramatically by his decisions; he
marries Romeo and Juliet; what if he refused to marry them? Would it end up differently? Or
were they destined to die? After Romeo and Juliet get married, they are separated, as Romeo
killed Tybalt and is banished. In order to prevent Romeo from committing suicide, the Friar
made a promise to Romeo, he also arranges Romeo and Juliet to consummate their marriage.
Later when Juliet is also threatening suicide (to avoid the arranged marriage with Paris) the
Friar uses one of his medicines to fake Juliet s death. The Friar s intervention fails, and they both
end up dead. His message to Romeo of the current circumstances is not delivered, so Romeo is
unaware that Juliet wasn t truly dead, and as a result commits suicide. However what if The Friar
didn t give Juliet the medicine? she may have committed suicide or would she have married Paris,
and Romeo Rosaline? Or was their deaths the destined end? I feel Shakespeare portrays Friar
Lawrence as involved in causing the final tragedy, even though his intentions were of a good nature:

The Causes And Consequences Of Anxiety
Anxiety is defined as a condition, or unpleasant emotional state that involves feelings of worry,
tension and apprehension (Bekker et al, 2003). To attempt to discover the causes of anxiety, and
what areas of the brain are involved, Jeffrey Grays Behavioural Inhibition System (1982) will be
discussed. Following this, further exploration of these beliefs by Carver and White (1994) will be
explored. In addition to these, it is also suggested that anxietyis correlated to hippocampus and
amygdala formation and volume, therefore, this idea will also be explored, other factors that may
influence anxiety will also be discussed in order to consider other potential causes and
consequences of anxiety. After review and consideration of this evidence, the question To what
extent can individual differences in anxiety be explained by variation in the Behavioural Inhibition
System will be explained.
Jeffrey Grays (1982) Behavioural Activation System (BAS) and Behavioural Inhibition System
(BIS) which are now occasionally referred to as Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (RST)
(Pickering and Corr, 2008) are theories of personality, which believe that individual differences in
personality are due to neurobiological factors (Avila BarrГіs Loscertales, 2008). The Behavioural
Activation System is motivated by reward and motivation. Whereas the Behavioural Inhibition
System is motivated by sensitivity to punishment and avoidance (Goldberg et al, 2010) To test this
theory, Carver and White

Pros And Cons Of Embryonic Stem Cells
Should Embryonic Stem Cells Be Used To Cure Diseases?
Alan C
Embryonic stem cells are undifferentiated cells that are able to differentiate into any type of cell in
the body, and they are obtained from four or five day old embryos that are in the blastocyst stage
of human development. For example, an embryonic stem cell could turn into brain, skin, muscle,
and bone cells. Stem cells have the potential to cure a plethora of diseases, but they come at a cost.
The researchers that obtain these stem cells destroy the human embryo, therefore killing human
life. The use of embryonic stem cells should be eliminated because embryonic stem cells can be
unpredictable and can cause tumors, there are more effective stem cells that can be obtained without

These cells were named IPS cells. Stem cells can also be found in adults, children, infants,
placentas, umbilical cords, and cadavers. These cells can then be reprogrammed into IPS cells.
The difference between embryonic stem cells and IPS cells is that IPS cells can be obtained
without harm. These cells have been proven to be more effective. Currently, according to a
website called stemcellresearch.org there have been seventy three adult stem cell research
treatments, and zero embryonic stem cell research treatments. Scientists have been successful
with using IPS cells to treat diseases like Parkinson`s disease, autoimmune diseases, stroke,
anemia, cancer, heart attack, and diabetes. Dr. Oz even said on the Oprah Winfrey Show, I can
take a little bit of your skin, take those cells, get them to go back in time so they are like they
were when you were first made, and then they will start to make that dopamine I think those cells,
because they won t be as prone to cancer because they re your genes will be the ones that are
ultimately used to cure Parkinsons. If IPS cells are more effective than embryonic stem cells, and
can be obtained without harm, then why should researchers waste their time with embryonic stem

The Gettysburg Address
Introduction
Gettysburg Address is one of the important dictations of values that provided much needed direction
for the future leadership of the United States. It shaped the societal values and beliefs of the
country. This assertion can be affirmed with the speech s enduring presence in the US culture.
Notwithstanding its noticeable place cut into stone units on the south divider of the Lincoln
Memorial in Washington, D.C., the Gettysburg Addressis every now and again pointed to in works
of popular culture. With the understood motive that contemporary crowds can be acquainted with
Lincoln s expressions.

The Text of the Gettysburg Address
Soon after Everett s overall appropriated comments, Lincoln gave his address that lasted only a
couple of minutes. In this short time, he used ten sentences to aptly summarize the war and the way
ahead for the United States.
The five known composition copies of the Gettysburg Address are named for the individuals who
obtained it from Lincoln. Lincoln provides a copy to his private secretaries, John Hay and John
Nicolay. Both of the aforementioned copies were composed around the time of his November 19
address, while the other three duplicates of the speech, the Bliss, Bancroft, and Everett duplicates,
and were composed by President Lincoln for philanthropic purposes. These copies were sent well
later to November 19, the actual date of the famous address. Since then these copies have ended up
being the standard content of Lincoln s Gettysburg Address (LoC, 2012).
Both the Nicolay and Hay duplicates of the Address are inside the Library of Congress. It is
enclosed in exceptionally manufactured, temperature regulated; argon gas filled and sealed
containers. The idea is to ensure that the original copy is safe from gradual continued deterioration
and oxidation (LoC, 2012).

Manipulation seems to be a common characteristic in swaying peoples perception. Journalism has
been an instrument used to act on this manipulation since text has been attainable by the masses.
Due to the impressive amount of average folk becoming literate in the early nineteenth century,
international journalism was an integral part of the Age of Imperialism. Around this time,
industrialized countries were on a quest to colonize and influence any state that was seen as
worthy. The role of journalism exposed these worthy, unindustrialized countries and manipulated
readers into believing they needed to be altered. This deceptive journalism is evident in Adam
Hochschild s King Leopold s Ghost A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa, and
influenced many nineteenth and twentieth century perceptions pertaining to humanitarianism and
imperialism. Hochschild s uses the story of King Leopold II and his colonization of Africa to
depict the notion of imperialists genuine intention s rather than their publicly perceived one s.
Using propaganda, Leopold exploits the many faces of journalism and ultimately perceives his
backwards Congo into a colonial, humane, necessity for the world. Even though international
journalism eventually led to the down fall of Leopold s hypocritical jurisdiction, the principal role
of journalists relating to the Congo was to report what was beneficial to the writer. This is evident
in Leopold s portrayal of the Congo to the public, and

Human Development from Conception to Birth
There are many reasons that certain drugs damage to an embryo very early in pregnancy even
before the mother realizes she is pregnant. Firstly, some of the mother already exposed to certain
drugs before she get pregnant such as tobacco and alcohol. For example, the women who take
cigarettes everyday in their daily life will continue to smoke before they realize it. Due to this,
the babies of mother who smoke tend to grow more slowly in the womb and are likely to be born
prematurely and small (Habek et al., 2002). Apart from that, some of the women did not go to
consult doctor when they were sick, and just simply take any medicine they have in the house.

During the embryonic period, the rate of cell differentiation intensifies, support system for the cells
form, and organ appear. In week 3, an embryo, the person to be is just 1/10 of an inch (2mm) long.
It has become elongated, and three layers emerge the ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. In week
4, the embryo is so curved that the two ends almost touch. The outer layer (ectoderm) folds into the
neural tube. From the mesoderm, a tiny heart forms and begins to beat. The endoderm
differentiates into a gastrointestinal tract and lungs. Between days 21 and 28, eyes develop. In the
following week, ears, mouth, and throat take shape. Arm and leg buds appear. The handplate from
which fingers will emerge appears. The heart divides into two regions, and the brain differentiates
into forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. In week 6 and 7, the embryo is almost 1 inch long. The
heart divides into four chambers. Fingers emerge from the handplate, and primitive facial features
are evident. The important process of sexual differentiation begins. During the final week of
embryonic period, most structures and organs are present. Ovaries and testes are evident. The
embryo begins to straighten and assumes a more human appearance. Clearly, the embryonic period
is dramatic and highly important because it is when the structures that make us human evolve. Yet
most pregnant women, either because they do not yet know they are pregnant of do not appreciate

Jane Addams And Her Fight For Social Reform
Jane Addams and her Fight for Social Reform
For years, Jane Addams has been known as a social activist who created the first settlement home in
the United States. However, many people often disregard the fact that she has accomplished a
significant amount of other things throughout her life that will always make her a significant icon
in history. Were it not for Jane Addamsleadership and contribution towards the creation of the first
U.S. Hull House, social changes such as child labor, women s suffrage, and peace may not have
occurred in the United States. Growing up in Cedarville, Illinois where both educated and non
educated women struggled to be seen and heard in the public s eye, encouraged social activist,
Jane Addams, to strive to make great changes in her society. Her many achievements such as
graduating as valedictorian, being the first student to receive a bachelor s degree at the Rockford
Female Seminary in 1881, and co founding the first U.S. Hull House, has helped show that she was
very determined to make a change. After a few years of trying to improve her community, her drive
to make it better soon made for greater social changes throughout the entire country.
As a woman that underwent not being able to obtain a decent job involving any public role
besides school teaching and missionary work, Addams wanted to do something that would make it
possible for women to have more work options. In 1888, after taking a trip to visit the Toynbee

Bona Fide Occupational Qualification Essay Bona fide occupational qualification and the military Title VII of the 1964 civil rights act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin. Contrary to title VII, gender and religion under the bona fide occupational qualification allows discrimination for certain jobs that calls for a particular group, age limit etc. An example of a company using bona fide occupational qualification in the United States Military. Every day bona fide occupational qualification is used in the United States military to decline thousands of applicants daily because of their age. The argument against women serving in the elite navy seal units is that women are not able to meet the physical standards that are required by the Special Forces. Reports in basic training has shown that women are able to meet and exceed the swimming, running and push ups when they are placed in advanced divisions. A second argument that is made is that the price tag to send women to Basic Underwater Demolition School or buds, would cost millions of dollars a year. The answer to this argument is to change the training pipeline to mirror the men. Before any male is sent to Buds, they must pass pre buds in basic training. If the trainee doesn t pass pre buds they are reassigned into another job or discharged from active duty. Women have served in combat roles for the last 25 years, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now it s time to give them the opportunity to serve as navy seals by striking down outdates restrictions and perceptions of women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The OSI model is basically a framework of how the device operate on the network. Assume that user A sends data to user B through internet, the data has to travel the network to reach user B computer. During the data transfer, the data has to navigate through many intermediate nodes. To ensure the data transfer from user A to user B correctly and securely, so we need protocols to guide these data. These group of protocols are called communication model. OSI model is one of the communication model. Open System Interconnection (OSI) is made up of 7 layers, each layer has their own unique functions and protocols. Machiavelli recognized the political playing field as a vile place only for the most dominating and cunning of political giants. One of Machiavelli s most famous work, On Principalities, or known by the other title, The Prince, absolutely announced a break with previous political beliefs secured between moral and religion system, it examines the nature of his views on power that are still somewhat in existent today. The way he thought you could measure a consequence calculating your actions. He thought this way would be great way to rationalizing actions others would consider to be against most morals. These thoughts slowly lead him into the mind set of believe in what is then what it ought to be , his mind continuously worked out many of the political problems and soon came to realize that it does not matter on how things should be when what is is more of a challenge than just changing it to fit what the people and the nobles want it to be. Living in the what is allows more of the power to be set to the holder rather than making changes to the what it ought to be and allowing power to slowly slip into the public based on their opinion. Those that have access to technology are the richest in the world, and those that do not are stuck in poverty with no way to improve their economic status. It sounds like the starting lines of a Hollywood movie but it is a growing issue in America and abroad. The digital divide is the divide or gap between people who have access to technology and those that do not. The divide is creating problems for schools who require more and more assignments to be done on a computer. Also, having the internetis having the power of information and knowledge that not everyone has the ability to access. Other countries suffer from the digital divide at a staggering percentage compared to US, UK and Europe. (Crawford) In the United States the ability to get internet access is usually limited to where you live. There are many homes in the US where there is not reliable internet access. There are elementary schools that require papers, homework and research to be done on computers. The students that do not have easy access to a computer will have a strong disadvantage over those that do. Schools are getting better and more advanced computer labs but not all students can stay after school to complete their homework, if they are required to take the bus. • 7. Motivations For Beowulf The epic of Beowulf, the most precious relic of Old English, and, indeed, of all early Germanic literature... ( While reading Beowulf, many have a series of questions throughout the epic poem. On of the many questions is about what motivates the epic hero of the tale to danger his life. Beowulf lives in Geatland and shows up in the land of the Danes and asks to fight a monster to help them. He ends up fighting the monster s mother as well as a deadly dragon. What motivates Beowulfto go after these three monsters? Beowulf goes after the monsters because of Anglo Saxon codes, for vengeance, and fame. To begin, when Beowulf gets to the land of the Danes he is only there because of his duty. In Anglo Saxon culture, if you were able to do something to help someone else it was your... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beowulf knows he will be injured trying to kill the beast but wants to do it anyways. Beowulf brings a whole group of warriors to come watch him kill the dragon and help him if he becomes too injured to continue. Beowulf says this before the fight, ...I will fight again, seek fame still... (626). He knows how difficult the battle will be, he knows how old he is, yet he knows that he would protect his people and gain fame from killing the monstrous beast. As Peter Leithart says about the actions of Beowulf, The hero acts out of devotion to his lord or to his people, but dragon acts out of malice. (Leithart). He says here that the reason that Beowulf goes to kill the dragon is out of devotion to his people and to become more famous. Beowulf makes the ultimate sacrifice to save his people. To conclude, Beowulf s motivations are fame, obligation, and vengeance. Without the ideals of the Anglo Saxon times, Beowulf would have almost no reason to fight Grendel. However, because of the codes that they had in their culture, Beowulf was created to show other people how to act and what to do about duty and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You have rights, buts: Companies may force employees to vote against a union, but at the same time, remind employees that the decision is solely up to them. Almost all companies are entitled for union organization, but it is up to the employer to take crucial steps that may prevent this from taking place. Employees join Unions because they don t feel satisfaction with management, poor working conditions and the company is alleged to mistreat employees. Strategies that help discourage union are: reasonable pay and benefits, open communication with employees, acknowledgement, and fair work and practice policies. From my short experience working as a HR assistant, I have learned that it is important that employers need to have complete knowledge of the labor law before a Union knocks on the door. It is important to train supervisors. Supervisors may commit an unlawful practice if they are not properly training. Clear communication with supervisors will empower supervisors to do their best. • 11. The Story Of Us By Deb Caletti The Story of Us is written by Deb Caletti and is a romance adventure book. It is set in a nice, expensive country living space. Caletti wrote this book in honor and memory of her and her little family of three s furry friend, Jupiter. 18 year old Cricket had loved her best friend, Janssen, for as many years as she had lived in their secluded living space. When Cricket was younger her parents got a divorce, forcing Cricket s mom, Cricket and her brother, Ben, out of the house and into something better for all of them. When they first moved away from all their family friends, it was a hard transition. They had never lived in the country and of course they never really heard any of the country animals (coyotes, wolves, hyenas, etc.) in person. The adjustment wasn t easy for the kids or for their mother, so they decided to get a puppy to keep them busy. They named this puppy Jupiter and loved her with their whole hearts. Janssen was the boy who lived up the road and was always over at their house. He and Cricket grew in their relationship when Cricket s dad became aware of her mother s successful life. While he was there he began to get very physical with Cricket s mom. Janssen stepped in, as a 17 year old, and very harshly said not to mess with this family or with him. After that Janssen and Cricket were inseparable. Their relationship grew as well as them. Time came for Cricket to graduate and the days were rough. In 1950`s only 10% of American households had television, but today that number reached higher levels and 99% of households own one or more. Television is most of the time amusement and entertainment for many young people, especially children. Television itself has an impact on everyone. Therefore, some see television as an unhealthy imposition into a child s learning process, substituting easy pictures for the discipline of reading and concentrating and transforming the young viewer into a hypnotized non thinker (Langone 48). Children while growing up and spending 4 5 hours in front of television everyday will imitate aggressive acts shown on TV. The only solution to this is to prevent it at the beginning. Parents can certainly control how much television their children will have on daily basis. Television should not be in every room of the house, especially children`s room, where they have the opportunity to watch shows while parents are busy doing other stuff. Those violent acts certainly can be reduced by control which starts at the beginning instead of waiting until everyone is helpless to improve the situation. Perhaps one of the crucial problems is the possibility of developing the lack of social skills. Children, while spending time at home in front of television tend to develop anti social skills, which will affect their future and their entire life. Watching television shows, in most cases replaces activities that children should be doing at their age. Instead of reading, learning, playing with their friends, doing chores, having a physical activity, they sit at home. This way of antisocial activity affects family too, because ... Instead, tradition dictates that the presidential race is drawn out quadrennially over the pre primary, primary, Party Convention and campaign seasons. The caucus system propounds the strength of the Party elite who have an overriding influence as to who is chosen. As Ragsdale observed (1993, p.95), the system tended to be dominated and controlled by party bosses, as deals were cut in smoke filled rooms, rather than by ordinary rank and file members. This was far from democratic, and since the controversy surrounding Humphrey s nomination for the Democratic Party in 1968, the McGovern Fraser Commission established reforms which saw the advent of the Media Primary. Since 1972, this procedure has become the system with gravitas: 77% of the votes cast by Republican delegates in 1988 came from those selected by primaries. These state wide intra party elections mean that any supporters can vote for a nominee to send to the National Convention and although these elected delegates still formally select the presidential candidate, it is rarely more than a ratification of the preferences expressed by ordinary voters. This encouraged a higher level of political participation, as voters could feel a part of the decision making process. Some primaries, such as Michigan State, saw a significantly ... Going further than the Almoravids, the Almohads were responsible for massacres and forced conversions of Jews and Christians alike, driving them into Christian Iberia. By 1200, the indigenous Christian inhabitants of al Andalushad, for the most part, been forcibly converted or rooted out. The only Christians left in the area were prisoners of war, mercenaries, and merchants. To emphasize the severity of the treatment of the dhimmis by the Almohad rulers, in 1224, an Almohad chronicler, al Marrakushi, made the claim that, No pact of protection has been signed between us and the Jews or the Christians since the rise of Almohad power. It was not only the Christians who were persecuted by the Almohad movement, as Jews were also the object of abject discrimination. In addition to his previous statement, al Marrakushi also noted that In all the regions of the west there are no synagogues or churches. The Almohads under Caliph Yaqub (1194 1199) became increasingly paranoid about crypto Judaism in Jewish families which had converted to Islam. Such was his paranoia and contempt for these families that he demanded that they put on a humiliating garb consisting of black clothing with sleeves that reached all the way down to the wearer s ankles in addition to a hat with ear flaps. Motorists in the last century used to change tiresby the road side more often unlike now. There are a few tips that one can use to mitigate this situation. 1. The main focus and goal of the Progressives and their movement was lowering government involvement and eliminating corruption in the government. Progressives reacted to problems caused by large factories and cities. Furthermore, they attacked big corporations, such as the Armour meat packing company and others, for how harsh their practices were. The progressives exposed these companies and how they treated workers, removed competitors, and set high prices. The meatpackingindustry capitalized when the growth of livestock farming in the Midwest started to grow rapidly. Meatpacking companies and industries, such as the Armour meat packing company, handle the slaughtering, processing, and distribution of animals including cattle and pigs. Although the meatpacking industry created a lot of jobs, working in a meatpacking company was not luxurious because the factories were unsanitary, unregulated, and tremendously dangerous. Leonardo was a high renaissance painter and this picture is a high renaissance piece. The time period of when it was created and the idealized figure, clarity, and bright colors depict the type of renaissance piece. In the portrait a lady with long blonde hair, and blue eyes is holding a greenish colored unicorn in her lap, which gives the portrait its name. It was an oil painting that was applied to a wooden canvas. This piece was actually inspired by Leonardo Da Vincis Mona Lisa(Young women with Unicorn , n.d.). The subject in the portrait has been identified as Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The painting was attributed to Raphaelwhen he restored it. Removal of a heavy repainting revealed the unicorn in this portrait. The unicorn is a representation of purity in the medieval romance in place of Catherine s wheel. There were parts in the movie where one of the members had got frustrated and started arguing with another member. The third member had to calm them down. This method of control can prove to have a strong effect on a person s sense of privacy and can induce a strong sense of fear and anxiety. There are various methods from which government agents can monitor a group of people. In the novel, 1984 by George Orwell, these methods and theories are depicted very well. These methods include, the use of Telescreens (similar to CCTV), spying organizations including undercover police, and a psychological mechanism of anxiety, called the Panopticon Effect . George Orwell s 1984, is not a prediction of how he thought that we would live in 1984, but is a warning of what can happen, if we allow a dictatorship or totalitarian state to take control In general, citizens of a country may be prone to accept certain methods of control, provided that their country is able to justify valid reasons for it. This has been implemented in the past, for example, during the Great Depression, the citizens of America had to accept methods such as rationing, as it was the only way to be able to access basic needs in times of no money and jobs (Rationing and Scrap Drives in Rural America, no date).
