Sense And Sensibility Essay
Kate Hamill s Sense and Sensibility, under the direction of Taiba Magar, provided a compelling
experience into modern theatre. The performance presents an in depth look into 1790s England and
the emergence of the sensibility movement, a response to the growing tensions of the time. Utilizing
costuming, lighting, effective story telling, and stage design, Sense and Sensibility highlights the
social pressures of the 1790s through Elinor and Marianne, the story s protagonists. While performed
on the same stage as The Cake, it told a very different story. Instead of modern day Winston Salem, it
took place in England in the late 18th century. It tells of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne,
who have particularly different personalities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

One day, Colonel Brandon arrives and tells them of his disinheritance. He seduced an underage ward,
and then abandoned her at the news of her pregnancy. He says he chooses to marry for money rather
than love. Marianne s resemblance of his young love fuels his attraction for her. When the Steele
sisters arrive, Anne announces Lucy s secret engagement which results in threats of disinheritance for
Edward. He still chooses to marry Lucy, with the support of Elinor, Marianne, and Colonel Brandon,
who gives Edward a place to stay.
Distraught with her news, Marianne walks alone in the rain and becomes deathly sick. John arrives
and tells Elinor that his love for Marianne was genuine. She has sympathy for his unhappiness, but
hates the way he treated his own wife. He reveals that his aunt forgave him, which means that
marriage between them would have money and love. When Marianne recovers and discovers of his
visit, she believes she would not have been happy with such an immoral and erratic person. She
respects Elinor s behavior and vouches to behave more sensibly like her. Upon hearing of Lucy s
passing of Edward in favor of his wealthier brother, Elinor

Reflective Importance Of Writing
Following some time spent on reflection, I realize I learned to appreciate more than I expected from
this class. I enrolled in this class with the idea that I would most enjoy reading stories, watching
movies and analyzing each of them. Before attending this class, I honestly did not give as much
consideration to the writing process as I should have. As a consequence, most of my efforts to
adequately express my more passionate ideas failed. Essentially, like Sheriff Bell from the book No
Country for Old Men, I felt overwhelmed and I had to accept that I was not prepared to obtain the
result I had envisioned. Understandably, I admire writers who can effectively present their ideas and
produce the outcome they chose. If I eventually master each of the steps in the writing process, not
only will my writing improve but also my enjoyment of writing will increase because I will have the
skills to satisfactorily share my perspective. Accordingly, I came to understand I need to increase my
proficiency within several areas of the writing process if I want others to fully comprehend and
appreciate my efforts to communicate my ideas. Though I cannot claim that my other cross circular
outcomes, such as critical thinking skills, are perfect, what I came to appreciate from this class is the
importance of the writing process.
Although, there are many areas that I need to develop to become a better writer, editing is the one I
ended up concentrating on the most. Mostly, I focused on

Personality Theory Of Personality Development
Many personality theorists offered different explanations for human behaviors as well as established
specific stages of personality development. However, person centered theory does not have a theory of
personality structure, rather believes that it is essential to follow certain principles in order to develop
the self concept. Rogers s theory of personality is based on the notion that all individuals have the
innate ability to reach actualizing tendency and establish a self concept, which is congruent with his
whole experience (Warner, 2009). Rogers defined the actualizing tendency as the inborn motivating
force of the self, which move towards fulfilling and enhancing ones true potential. The actualizing
tendency applies to all living organism, however, in human this tendency is referred as self
actualization. According to Rogers (1980) actualizing tendency can be suppressed, though, it can
never be destroyed, without destroying the organism itself. This phenomenon is the motivating force
in the theory, which includes all motivations such as need, drive, or anxiety reduction. It also
encompasses, growth motivations for instance, the desire to be more creative and seeking of
pleasurable tensions. It is Rogers belief that all organisms including, humans strive to become his/her
full potential even under difficult circumstances. However, when individuals are lacking empathy and
unconditional positive regard in their society and in interpersonal relationship, then

Racial Disparities And Gender Disparities
When it comes to healthcare racial disparities continue to be an ongoing issue. In fact racial disparities
have been a topic of discussion since desegregation. The US Department of Health and Human
Services, in 1984 published a report that called attention to the healthcare disparities. The report was
called Heath, United States 1983(Dougher, 2015). Within the context of the report there lies a passage
that describes the major disparities that are within the burden of illness and death that is experienced
by African Americans and other minorities, despite significant progress in the overall health of the
nation (Dougher, 2015). It was evident that there was a serious lack of health care minorities. Low
income neighborhoods are still witnessing a rising gap in healthcare coverage. For example, patients
with diabetes are more likely to undergo limb amputation than those in higher income areas (Pearl,
2015). Also, research has shown the Caucasians women have and overall incidence of breast cancer
that is higher than that of African American women (Williams, Mohammed, Leavell, Collins, 2010).
On the contrary there is a higher death rate of breast cancer in African American women than in
Caucasians women.
African American women are diagnosed with breast cancer at a rate of one in ten. Caucasian women
see a rate of 1 in 8 however, 1 in 31 African American women are found die from their illness where 1
in 37 Caucasian die from breast cancer (ASPCS, 2014). These numbers are

The Joys Of Motherhood Analysis

Motherhood In The Joys of Motherhood by Buchi Emecheta, women are forced by circumstances to
play the principal role of taking care of their families. Unfortunately, due to patriarchy, women are not
able to secure well paying formal jobs like their male counterparts. Their only hope is to engage in
different trading activities to cater for their children. Some of the trading activities include selling
cigarettes, matches, candles, firewood, groundnuts, and clothes (Emecheta 162). However, women

This is what happens when Adaku and Nnu Ego decide to form an alliance and stage a cooking strike.
The strike rarely affects Nnaife because his co workers are generous enough to share their food with
him (Dubek 209). Therefore, in view of this inequity, commerce offers the women in the novel a
means of survival that enables them to take care of their personal needs and those of their children.
Some of the commercial activities that women undertake include selling various goods such as
clothes, matches, cigarettes, groundnuts, candles, and firewood (Emecheta 162). The desire to engage
in commerce is so high that some of the women would not mind selling their daughters to get money
(Razinatu 468). Women in the novel view commerce as the only way to support their large families.
The burden to take care of their families pushes them to an edge where they are willing to engage in
any form of trade, including selling their daughters into slavery (Razinatu 468). Nnu Ego sees nothing
wrong with such a venture as long as it helps her look after her other children. However, although
women are determined to engage in commerce, the challenges they face make it difficult for their
commercial ventures to flourish. Nnu Ego is forced to abandon her trade in several instances

Team Leadership Project: Christmas Takeover
I would first find a local family that was in desperate need of a miracle and blessing this holiday
season. I would do this asking a local church s administration team or school if they knew of any
family in the community that could seriously use some help. I would get information about this family
from the church staff. I would then present this family s story to the staff in our meeting:
Hello Team,
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends. Christmas is right around the

Argumentative Essay On The American Nightmare
The American Nightmare It s fair to say that the United States is a postcard for success and
opportunity, but what s missing is the equal chance for every US citizen to be able to achieve the
dream. In America, we base our accomplishments on the success and failure of others around us. We
have created a society built upon status, and therefore taken the Dream and stamped an unrealistic
American image all over it. There is no doubt that there is a dream, but the reality is that for many, it
only will be a dream. The gap between wealth and poverty is growing exponentially every year, and
the struggle to achieve the dream, is becoming more and more out of reach. According to the CPS,
More than half of America s working age families with children under age eighteen (approximately
20.1 million families) have annual incomes of $60,000 or below and on the opposite end of this, less
than 3% of families earn an income of $260,000 a year. The benefits of being in a higher class based
on economic and social status, labels the American Dream as invalid, where only the wealthy elite can
win. It would be favorable to say that You go as far as your dreams take you , or, You get out of the
system as much as you put in . The ideology of meritocracy is the core of the American Dream; it s
what makes America such an admirable country. But reality check, this isn t the way America seems to
be working. According to PBS, the middle class average salary has dropped since 1970 (adjusted for

There has been a lot of controversy about religion in public schools. The constitution states these
religion clauses in a very vague and unclear way so it leaves it up in the air for interpretation. Teachers
are allowed to teach religion, but cannot show religion the laws seem to contradict each other so right
now, it is sort of up in the air as to what is legal and what is not.
As a teacher, I try to stay neutral as far as expressing my religious beliefs, however, I do not change
my actions which are based on religious beliefs. Students are affected because they are caught in the
middle, it seems, sometimes. There are some students whose families don t celebrate a holiday, but at
school, they don t want to feel left out so they participate in the religious holiday festivities. It is one
of those really touchy areas that I doubt will ever be completely clear.

Hollywood and Nathaniel West s The Day of the Locust Essay
Hollywood and Nathaniel West s The Day of the Locust Works Cited Missing Although set in the
1930s, Nathanael West s The Day of the Locust ironically resembles contemporary Hollywood. Within
the glamorous setting of Hollywood, West s characters take on multiple roles instead of assuming
individual personalities. They put on and remove these imaginary personality masks, similar to those
in the Commedia dell Arte, to exhibit a range of emotions that only their character type would exhibit.
Consequently, West s characters are trapped in this restrictive atmosphere, especially at the end of the
novel when they become part of a collective mob. In these manners, the characters in The Day of the

In fact, Webb notes that today, only one major studio still exists in the city, as most back lots have
turned into offices that coordinate filming activities elsewhere. This small fact proves that Hollywood
has always been a concept as much as a place (xi), a symbol people reference for the movie industry,
no matter where the movies were actually produced. Hollywood cinema also produces its own realities
on the big screen. As Cecil B. De Mille. Goldfish and Samuel Goldfish claimed during the production
of the first motion picture, when real life doesn t fit a preconceived image, create another reality (xi).
Since that 1913 statement, Hollywood has fostered this type of reality making that results into an

order to view these films, audiences are also invested in the characters they view on screen. However,
Webb informs the public that what appears on the screen is a stylized version of real life (or a
plausible vision of imaginary worlds) that is made possible by the prolonged collaborative effort of
hundreds, working in support of a celebrated few (3). The reality of the cinema lies in producers,
directors, actors, back lots, etc. involved in its creation rather

Association between Air Polluiton and Lung Cancer
Many epidemiologic studies have found an association between ambient air pollution and lung cancer.
This evidence lead the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to report air pollution as
a category 1 or definite cause of cancer. The IARC reviewed over 1000 studies from five continents
and covering many different scientific fields. They concluded that air pollution is linked to increased
cancer incidence, with lung cancer being the most prevalent (Pope, 2013).
Air pollution occurs when the air is contaminated by foreign substances. These substances can be
liquid or solid and they are small enough that they remain suspended in the air. Some of the substances
can be toxic chemicals which can include sulphur dioxide (SO2), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), ozone
(O3), volatile organic compounds and suspended particulate matter (PM).
When talking about air pollution we categorize the particles with the term particulate matter (PM).
Suspended particulate matter (PM) is divided into three groups based on the diameter of the particle.
PM2.5 refers to particles with a diameter less that 2.5 micrometers (µm), PM10 classifies particles
with a diameter between 2.5 and 10 µm, and PM10 defines particles with a diameter greater than 10
µm. The relative risk of developing cancer as a result of exposure to air pollution is generally small,
but the attributable risk (relative risk multiplied by the number of exposed people) is high. Because
exposure is so high ambient air pollution

Omni Hotel Narcissism
Narcissism can be a major issue in the business world getting in the way of someone doing a good job.
Those that tend to be arrogant, require excessive admiration, have a magnificent sense of self
importance, and a sense of entitlement (Robbins and Judge, 2009). The executive chef of The Pointe
Restaurant in the Omni Hotel Charlottesville had a great sense of self worth. The presentation states
that the perfection error is perceiving we are better than we really are (Lesson 2, 2016). The Chef was
arrogant when it came to thinking everyone had to listen to him and only his ideas mattered. The

Social Learning Theory and Mental Illness The Social Learning Theory strives to show how behaviors
are acquired and maintained through various techniques. According to this theory, three basic
constructs are apparent. Differential association explains that a person engages themselves in a group
that has an acceptance toward crime as a possible means of obtaining necessary life goals. People
engaged in these groups learn to view crime as either positive or negative. Differential reinforcement
explains how well the participation in crime is accepted and imitation is the final acceptance of the
crime by observing others and committing the crime as well. Applied to mental illness, individuals
with mental illness are more likely to be engaged with individuals of these ideals due to excessive
exposure from close contact in low socioeconomic areas. Social Stress and Mental Illness According
to the Social Stress Theory, crime and violence is related to the amount of stress felt in one s life.
Applied to mental health, it is proposed that mental illness will lead to stressful situations in life which
will in turn lead to crime and violence (Silver 2006). Stressful life events have shown a relation to an

Gender socialization is the process of learning the social prospects and behaviors connected with one s
sex. According to gender socialization there are so many reasons why males and females act in
different ways: they learn different social roles. For example, girls learn to do different household
chores such as: how to cook, how to clean, how to do sweep, how to take care of family etc and boys
learn to work outside, how to earn money, how to rule the world etc. The effect of family, school,
media, society, interaction between two people are the reasons of gender socialization. Sometimes
gender roles lead to inequality such as according to, We should all be feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi

or a girl. For example, when a baby comes into the world he or she has to face either Blue or Pink
reality. All around the world we can see that, babies are differentiated by the color, pink stuffs for a
girl and blue for a boy. When they grow up, they start act like a male or female because they receive
the message from society about their identity and act accordingly. That is how society constructs
gender. Gender plays an important role in our society and society expects different type of behaviors

Salem Witch Trials Historical Analysis
Assess the differing interpretations of the causation of the Salem Witch Trials.
Historians have offered many differing explanations for the causation of the Salem Witch Trials of
1692, thus illustrating that historiography is ever changing. Numerous theories have attempted to
interpret the causes of the mass hysteria from ergot poisoning to actual witchcraft. Many historical
writers have attempted to assign only one single factor or event to the cause of the Salem Witch Trials,
however, it is more likely to be an underlying number of factors and events intertwined and

The first explanation for the witch trials was the real life presence of witchcraft within Salem, this
factor was underpinned by the historians pre Enlightenment and often Puritan worldview. The Puritan
Mindset was displayed to be obsessed with superstitions and witchcraft. The historian must have a
belief in the existence of witchcraft and the Devil, in order to attribute the causes of the trials to real
witchcraft. Cotton Mather, who had an important role in the Trials published a historical account in
1963 called The Wonders of the Invisible World, he had a belief in witchcraft and the Devil, therefore
he saw this explanation to be logical and reasonable. Cotton Mather was a Puritan Minister who could

Scene Analysis of The Green Mile Essay
The film The Green Mile was originally written by Stephen King and later directed by Frank
Darabont. It is based on the guards and inmates of a penitentiary s Death Row during the great
depression. There is a certain monotony that comes with working on Death Row and Paul Edgecomb,
played by Tom Hanks, has become numb to the fact that he is paid to take lives; that is until John
Coffey gets sentenced to death and is sent to Paul s green mile . John Coffey is a very large black man
that was accused of rape and murder of two little girls, and in the 1930 s having charges like that

they were all covered in dust. Just that screen shot of the two elderly people juxtaposed together to

of Language Film Analysis explains to us that these types of scenarios, elderly people in an old

of both Paul and Elaine getting down on the old wood floor and are playing with Mr. Jingles. Then
Paul starts explaining the details of the story to Elaine and they go back and forth conversing. He is
explaining to her that he was cursed for killing a miracle of God and his punishment is to stay alive
while those around him that he loves must die. Both he and Mr. Jingles got a piece of John Coffey

Causal Question: (15 words max.)
What caused the water to rise?
Hypothesis: (30 words max.)
A change in pressure inside the jar caused the water to rise.
Prediction: (30 words max.)
If the pressure in the jar remains atmospheric, then the water level will not rise.
Rational: (100 words max.)
Inside the jar, the flame consumed the oxygen and produced carbon dioxide until it ran out of oxygen
and the flame was extinguished. Since pressure is reliant on volume as seen in the formula p=(NkT)/V,
a change in the volume of molecules in the jar will also cause a change in pressure. If the pressure
inside of the jar becomes negative, it will force water into the jar to balance the pressure gradient.

Cain and Abel were sons of Adam and Eve; however, Cain became very jealous and envious of his

elitism (Lui 2000, 141). Chronologically speaking, the Tiananmen incident began as of April 15, 1989,
when Hu Yaobang died. For example, posters appeared at Beijing University on April 15, mourning
Hu as a fallen hero (Lin 1992, 3). Hu s death is therefore, seen as a catalyst of the student protests
since many students supported his stand against corruption and party elitism. They saw him as the
their only non corrupt and democratic official; but more importantly, their call for democracy and

After the death of Zhou Enlai in 1976, major demonstrations took place in Beijing where protestors
were calling for the end to oppressive policies of the Cultural Revolution; in December 1986, student
demonstrations escalated into nation wide movements protesting the absence of democratic reforms
(Teiwes and Sun 2004, 212). In a similar sense, in 1989, Hu s death gave the demonstrators another
reason to comemorate his death and again call for democratic reforms. In addition, a number of
participants in the Democracy Wall movement of 1978 and 1976 demonstration in Tiananmen Square

Death Penalty In Dead Man Walking
The end of the film, Dead Man Walking, is definitely quite surprising. Throughout the film, the
audience is given an insight into the lives of death row convict Matthew Poncelot and a nun guiding
him to his death. The nun, Sister Helen Prejean, is torn throughout the film; she wants to help Matt
own up to his monstrous acts as well as help the grieving families of Matt s victim s move on.
What is perhaps the most shocking part of the film is the rollercoaster of flashbacks, leading the
audience to be unsure of whether Matt was actually guilty of the crimes that he was on death row for.
It is certainly difficult whether the death penalty is seen as morally wrong or right to decide if a person
should be put to death or not before being sure of the guilt of that person. Once it is revealed that Matt
was guilty of the crimes the rape and murder of a young couple it is difficult to feel sorry for him,
though the film effectively continued to humanize him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Matt.
Another shocking element was how the execution was carried out. In a sterile, unfriendly, impersonal
environment, it isn t hard to imagine the fear and pain that is felt by Matt. With people watching and
encouraging the death, it seems very cold and almost sadistic. Matt s crimes were absolutely atrocious,
but it is not humane to kill someone in such and

The Influence Of Body Image In The Media
Although it is not easy to admit, there is a hidden pleasure in watching stick thin models parade down
the runway wearing the newest and hottest lingerie. As secretly amusing as this may be, should we
really be supporting industries that make their revenue by exploiting women s bodies in the media?
Companies such as Victoria s Secret spend large amounts of money each year broadcasting these types
of images on TV, in magazines, and on billboards. With the widespread access to media that exists
today, Victoria s Secret s target audience is very large. In this paper, I will prove that the body image
portrayed by Victoria Secret in the media changes body image ideals in society, supports racial
stereotypes, and causes confidence issues in young women. One way that Victoria s Secret influences
body image is by changing body image ideals. One hundred years ago the idea of a perfect body was
not the same as it is today. With the growth of the advertising industry, there has been a shift toward
the idea that being perfect includes being tall and skinny with flawless hair and skin. Although this
may seem appealing, it is not realistic. Victoria s Secret has contributed to this notion by displaying
only the thinnest and most attractive models in their ads. They use these models to make it seem as
though looking thin and having zero flaws is normal. One example of this is Victoria s Secret Perfect
Body Campaign . This ad displays perfectly thin model wearing a new line of

In the Tedtalk, Perception Is Everything, by Rory Sutherland. The advertising guru, Sutherland,
explains Our perception is leaky. We can t tell the difference between the quality of the food and the

car is washed or valeted. When you drive away, your car feels as it drives better. And the reason for
this, unless my car valet is mysteriously changing the oil and performing work which I m not paying
him for and are unaware of, is because perception is in any case leaky. So if you do something that s
perceptional bad in one case, you can damage the other. Anyone s perception can be fixed. Some
gentlemen may think after a car wash their cars perform better but is that really the case? No, the car,
after is cleaning, is now perceived as higher quality, therefore, it performs at a higher level, which then
leads to the perception that the quality of life one lives has evolved. A clean car just makes anyone feel
better. With this information one can know start acknowledging that our perception of ourselves

How Does Mr. Darcy Change Throughout The Novel
In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell

of her most well know works, Pride and Prejudice, into an epic 19th century love story that is still read

from a fortune of money, so his upbringing was luxurious compared to the Bennetts . He believes that
the way the Bennett family present themselves to others is childish and ill mannered. Mr. Darcy, later,
places Elizabeth into the same category he labeled her family in. Unfortunately, when Mr. Darcy does

On May 8th 1840, the first camera on the world was invented by Alexander Wolcott. Since then,
people considered photography as an objective medium, which is always used to describe and explain

Strategy is a term used in the business world when a firm has a planned process in which it wants to

different and valid in certain circumstances. Therefore, strategy is something that cannot be defined
easily. However, what is clear is that strategy is used not just in the business world. Survival of a
species relies heavily on strategy. For a human or an animal to survive they must grow and evolve

dense ceiling of leaves and branches formed by the closely spaced evergreen trees. (Butler, 2013)
These high canopies of dense leaves and bra2nches offer the Parson s chameleon the perfect habitat to

Baseball Is A Fan Of Sports
The Atlanta Braves Not everybody is a fan of sports. Baseball is one of the most popular sports in
America. Baseball is basically two teams of nine players batting against each other to score the most
runs in nine innings. In order to make a run, he must hit the ball and make it to first, second, third, and
back home. In some cases, he will be able to run all three bases and make it to the home plate, and that
is called a home run. A home run can be up to four points, depending on how many people are out on
the bases. A batter is somebody that hits the ball when the pitcher throws at him. In order for a player
to be out, he has to get three strikes. As of right now, there are thirty major league baseball teams and
the Atlanta Braves have a long, storied history which involves many of the greatest players and
managers in the 20th century and so far the 21st. Baseball is not just about the players. Its takes the
coaches, the managers, and the players working together to make a great team. One if the greatest
managers to ever manage the Atlanta Braves was Bobby Cox. He managed the Atlanta Braves until he
retired. He even led the Atlanta Braves to a world series championship. Now he is oddly remembered
for being the most thrown out manager of all time. Bobby Cox is the only person among all of the

The Chosen Character Analysis
The Characteristics of a Coach
Everyone in society should be a role model, not only for their own self respect, but for respect from
others. ~ Barry Bonds. In this world bad situations occur frequently and it takes a good strong person
to handle them in a mature way. Dealing with them this way not only shows that the person has self
control, but also makes them a good role model for people to look up to. In the book The Chosen,
Chaim Potok uses Mr. Galanter to express his opinions of a good role model. Acting as a baseball
coach and gym teacher, young boys look to him for guidance and motivation every day. Having this
kind of position causes stress at times, and requires him to stay calm and level headed. Throughout

Mr. Galanter, the coach in the book The Chosen by Chaim Potok, did so very well. A role model and
leader must understand when to show restraint as the coach did on several occasions in the book. As
part of his role as a role as a leader and role model, he used stern language and actions to obtain the
right response in some situations. Even so, he demonstrated caring and sympathy at times when boys
needed it the most. Discipline, motivation and caring: all traits of Mr. Galanter, an excellent role

Partition Of Antarctica
Committee on the Partition of Antarctica (CPA)
Partition of Antarctica
Australia
Antarctica, the southernmost continent and site of the South Pole, is a virtually uninhabited, ice
covered land mass. Since first being sighted during a Russian voyage in 1820, Antarctica has remained
completely devoid of civilian settlements for over a century due to its unwelcoming and virtually
inhospitable climate. At the time of its discovery 98% of the continent was blanketed by dense
continental ice sheets. Little has changed as time has passed, and with temperatures recorded as low as
negative 130 degrees Fahrenheit, winds up to 200 miles an hour, and an average precipitation of only
6.5 inches annually, Antarctica remains the harshest continent on Earth ... Show more content on

The United Kingdom, New Zealand, France, and Norway recognize Australia s claim. Australia first
gained its claim as a part of the British Empire, and retained the claim when it gained independence
from the UK. Unfortunately, India and China have grown hungry for resources in the region,
especially in the Australian territory, the Australian government feels that the territory that it has
administered for over a century is being threatened. Following the disturbing drought Australia faced
between the years 2001 and 2012, Australia enjoyed nearly a decade of abundant precipitation. A
drought saw the end of the age of prosperity caused by this precipitation. The drought, lasting until the
late 2030 s, crippled the Australian economy, sharply cutting off population growth, and forced
Australia to become a major food importer, as many of its crops failed. Though precipitation levels
have returned to normal for now, but Australia fears another drought is inevitable, and looks to
strengthen its ability to continue to import food. Water rationing, enforced during the drought, is
extremely unpopular, and faces strong public opposition. The lack of water and the consequent food
shortages have sparked small pockets of hunger, but aid from the UK and US have managed to curb
any widespread starvation for now. The Australian claim on Antarctica is exactly what the nation
needs to continue its ability to import food without unbalancing its export and import levels. The
possible economic resources lying dormant in Antarctica would be of great benefit to Australia, since
the development and export of these resources would ease the economic burden posed by importing a
greater portion of its food. Besides the resources hidden within the land, the waters surrounding
Antarctica are especially appealing to Australia, since the large schools of fish that are available for
harvest would be under Australian

Starbucks’ Three Year Strategic Plan Essay
Section 1: Executive Summary Starbucks is the world s largest coffee roaster and retailer of specialty
coffee in the world. We have enjoyed great dividend returns over the past 5 years, and our growth has
been on the rise. We are currently saturating the US market, while the emerging markets of developing
countries offer many possibilities for growth and increased revenues. In our US market we should
look at offering more items on the menu that complement our long standing tradition of pleasing our
customers. Exotic Juices, and snacks served with the same service could add a nice margin to the
bottom line. In addition, the ability to offer a drive through service for the consumer that loves fine
coffee but does not have the time to stop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ratifying The Constitution Essay
Although the constitution was written over 200 years ago, the constitution continues to form the
foundation to our modern day america. Nowadays the general consensus is that the constitution is a
reliable document that is still relevant to this day. However the trust that we now place in the
constitution wasn t always present. During the time of its ratification there were two political factions
,the Federalists and the Anti Federalists, whose view on the power vested by the constitution clashed.
Creating a massive political debate that would shape the future of the nation.
The Federalist were people who believed that a strong centralized government would be necessary for
the united states to prevail. This desire for a strong central government was actually the driving force
behind the creation of the constitution in an attempt to replace the articles of confederation. This is
why the constitution gives so much more power to the federal government.
The Anti Federalists took the exact opposite view seeing a strong centralized government as a fatal
flaw that would leave to the united states to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to calm the Anti Federalist s concerns over an abusive regime, the constitution was amended
to include a list of the basic rights of the people. This came to be known as the bill of rights. Two
specific amendments included in the bill of rights that eased the Anti Federalist s worries were the first
and the tenth. The first amendment secured some of the most important rights of individual.
Specifically an individual s right to speech, expression, assembly, and petition all of which are
essential to checking a government that is becoming too powerful. The tenth amendment secured the
rights of the states. Giving states control of the powers not wielded by the federal government. These
amendments along with all others included in the bill of rights secured a balance with lead to
prosperity and

Comparing The Vain Jackdaw And The Donkey In The Lion Skin

Lion Skin both made by Aesop. In both stories It s about animals that learn That they shouldn t be
someone they re not/be yourself. In The Vain Jackdaw even at a kingdom you should be yourself. One
day the king made a competition to see which bird is most beautiful. At the middle of the story the
Jackdaw was searching the kingdom for other birds feathers to win the competition. Later he made an
outfit of all the other birds feathers. Other Jackdaws say we don t need to win a beauty competition we

Elon Musk And Its Impact On The Planet
Within every generation, there are some individuals who transcend expectations and seek to innovate
beyond all preconceived boundaries. Elon Musk is one of those individuals, and he s currently valued
at $11.9 billion.
But how did this South African born entrepreneur make his way into virtually every technological
industry on the planet? How did he become the space traveling, futuristic car selling, loudmouthed
computer genius we all know today?
Elon Musk took an interest in computing and innovation from a very young age. By his thirteenth
birthday, he had already taught himself programming, constructed a complex space themed computer
game, and sold it to a large corporation. After moving to the United States and earning a bachelor ...

And if that wasn t enough already, Musk refused to take a steady job at a company, but rather build his
own. He completely ignored the fact that eight out of ten new businesses fail within their first five
years (Forbes) in other words, that the odds were not in his favor. But the notions of progress,
innovation and wild success were so pivotally important to Musk that he truly felt that this was his
calling. He and his brother Kimbal soon created Zip2, an Internet software product that allowed
newspapers to create city guides for their readers. After four years of expansion, including contracts
with The New York Times, Musk and his associates sold the company for a whopping $307 million.
At just 28, he was already a millionaire on his way to defying even more odds and pursuing important
goals.
I always invest my own money in the companies that I create. I don t believe in the whole thing of just
using other people s money. I don t think that s right. I m not going to ask other people to invest in
something if I m not prepared to do so myself.
Musk never half committed or submitted to being unsure. After his success with Zip2, he invested
virtually all of the money he had earned into his next venture, this time focusing on online payment
services. While many questioned his logic, Musk subsequently succeeded in merging with a company
who would

Becoming A Summer Camp Counselor Essay
Becoming a summer camp counselor was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was a camper
for 10 years and the transition to counselor felt like a natural step forward. Even though I loved my
job and the campers I spent my time with, it was far from easy. I was responsible for 10 to 30 children,
24 hours a day, and planned many of the activities the campers participated in. I was placed in this
leadership position, but without the other 40 staff members, I would not have had a successful
summer. Our team communicated well, relied on each other for support, and talked through any issues
that arose.
There were many tough situations at camp and many days where I was mentally and physically
exhausted. Being able to rely on the team and being

Piggy And Jack In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
Piggy and Jack cannot get along because of their clashing, yet similar, types of intelligence. Piggy is
classified as the intelligent character, thinking everything through carefully and efficiently. Where
Jack is smart in a manipulative way, and gained power by persuading and tricking the boys on the
island to be their leader. Piggy s intelligence can be seen through his rational ideas. For example,
Piggy recommends to use the conch to control the boys: We can use this to call the others. Have a
meeting. They ll come when they hear us. The meeting that Piggy calls shows his desire to create a
civil environment on the island. Piggy has smart ideas that influenced everyone in a positive way.
Jack, however, has an opposite type of intelligence, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the start of the book, Piggy is described as a restricted character. He is limited by both physical
and mental confinements. At his first description, Piggy explains how he can t run, on account of (his)
asthma. (5) From this characteristic of Piggy, it limits his leadership. Most good leaders have no
restrictions, even from physical health; they are strong both physically and mentally. Piggy is also not
mentally cut out to be leader. When Jack is introduced, Piggy is described as being intimidated by this
uniformed superiority and the offhand authority in Merridew s voice. (13) Piggy is daunted by the
strong authority shown in others, which is not a quality a good leader possesses. Unlike Piggy, Jack
gained power at one point on the island, but like Piggy, he always lacked strong leadership. Jack is an
impulsive character, which is ultimately bad for everyone on the island. Given his crave for hunting, it
is easy to understand that Jack puts his main focus into killing, rather than surviving. Jack drew his
knife again with a flourish, (23) Jack has a compulsion to track down and kill that was swallowing
him up. (42) A good leader is confident and strong, and they think ahead, taking into account every
problem. Jack and Piggy both wanted a high position in the hierarchy, but ultimately both can not
reach that due to their lack of good leadership. This similarity sets the boys up

Strong And Weak Identifiers
According to the author, national identity is inherently social and is centered on people s strong bond
and sense of community with their fellow group members. People are placed into national groups
either by choice or by default. The strength of the person s membership depends on the level of
commitment they feel towards the national group. The level of commitment divides group members
into strong and weak identifiers. Group members of a national group that care about the group s well
being are considered strong identifiers. These members are strongly committed and often see their
national group membership as part of their sense of self. Strong identifiers hold and follow group
norms so they can be the best prototype for their national identity. ... Show more content on

Strong identifiers are treated more fairly when they are seen as the prototype of the group. Their
opinions about their group are highly valued and taken into consideration between all of the members.
Because of their high commitment to their group, strong identifiers remain loyal though hard times
and times of doubt. They want to protect the group s image by focusing on the positive aspects. When
faced with negative information about their group, these members will defend their group s actions
and criticisms in order to protect the group image.
Group members do not tolerate weak identifier s criticisms. Their criticisms of their group are often
not listened to and disregarded by members who have stronger commitments. This could be because
weak identifiers do not share the same level of loyalty as strong identifiers. Weak identifiers care less
about the groups image and do not feel a strong need to defend the group.
I consider myself a strong identifier in being an American. I would say that I fit the typical stereotype
of an American. I support the choices Americans make and remain loyal even through the bad
decisions. When natural disasters or unexpected tragedies happen in America, I feel instant empathy
towards everyone that was effected, even if I have never met them. I see every American and myself
as one big community. Being an American has always been a part of my identity and I couldn t

Big Data And Cloud Solutions Essay
Big Data and Cloud Solutions Organizations have accumulated lots of data throughout the years and
realized how they could use it for their benefit; this is where Big Data emerged. It has become a way
for organizations to analyze data and use it to their advantage. The purpose of this paper is to provide
an introduction to what Big Data is, its relationship to cloud computing and its architectural options
like: streaming processing, big data storage, application hosting, big data analytics, machine learning,
data import, and data sources. A comparison of four big data/cloud computing solutions with a
detailed matrix, is also provided in order to determine a recommendation of which solution is the best.
Big Data Big Data can be understood and defined in different ways. In simple terms, Big Data is a
collection of data from several sources like: traditional and digital from inside and outside of an
organization that represents a source for ongoing analysis and discovery. It is a term applied to
massive quantity of data that organizations can collect from their operation and that cannot be easily
managed by traditional database systems (Colorado State University Global Campus, 2016, p.1). It s
also important to understand that Big Data can be a mix of unstructured and structured data. Dumbill
(2012, para. 2) states, Big Data has become viable as cost effective approaches have emerged to tame
Big Data s three V s of massive data. The three V s are: 1. Volume huge amount of

  • 2. Sense And Sensibility Essay Kate Hamill s Sense and Sensibility, under the direction of Taiba Magar, provided a compelling experience into modern theatre. The performance presents an in depth look into 1790s England and the emergence of the sensibility movement, a response to the growing tensions of the time. Utilizing costuming, lighting, effective story telling, and stage design, Sense and Sensibility highlights the social pressures of the 1790s through Elinor and Marianne, the story s protagonists. While performed on the same stage as The Cake, it told a very different story. Instead of modern day Winston Salem, it took place in England in the late 18th century. It tells of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, who have particularly different personalities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He seduced an underage ward, and then abandoned her at the news of her pregnancy. He says he chooses to marry for money rather than love. • 3. Reflective Importance Of Writing Following some time spent on reflection, I realize I learned to appreciate more than I expected from this class. I enrolled in this class with the idea that I would most enjoy reading stories, watching movies and analyzing each of them. Before attending this class, I honestly did not give as much consideration to the writing process as I should have. As a consequence, most of my efforts to adequately express my more passionate ideas failed. Essentially, like Sheriff Bell from the book No Country for Old Men, I felt overwhelmed and I had to accept that I was not prepared to obtain the result I had envisioned. Understandably, I admire writers who can effectively present their ideas and produce the outcome they chose. If I eventually master each of the steps in the writing process, not only will my writing improve but also my enjoyment of writing will increase because I will have the skills to satisfactorily share my perspective. Accordingly, I came to understand I need to increase my proficiency within several areas of the writing process if I want others to fully comprehend and appreciate my efforts to communicate my ideas. Though I cannot claim that my other cross circular outcomes, such as critical thinking skills, are perfect, what I came to appreciate from this class is the importance of the writing process. Although, there are many areas that I need to develop to become a better writer, editing is the one I ended up concentrating on the most. Mostly, I focused on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Personality Theory Of Personality Development Many personality theorists offered different explanations for human behaviors as well as established specific stages of personality development. However, person centered theory does not have a theory of personality structure, rather believes that it is essential to follow certain principles in order to develop the self concept. Rogers s theory of personality is based on the notion that all individuals have the innate ability to reach actualizing tendency and establish a self concept, which is congruent with his whole experience (Warner, 2009). Rogers defined the actualizing tendency as the inborn motivating force of the self, which move towards fulfilling and enhancing ones true potential. The actualizing tendency applies to all living organism, however, in human this tendency is referred as self actualization. According to Rogers (1980) actualizing tendency can be suppressed, though, it can never be destroyed, without destroying the organism itself. This phenomenon is the motivating force in the theory, which includes all motivations such as need, drive, or anxiety reduction. It also encompasses, growth motivations for instance, the desire to be more creative and seeking of pleasurable tensions. It is Rogers belief that all organisms including, humans strive to become his/her full potential even under difficult circumstances. • 10. Argumentative Essay On The American Nightmare The American Nightmare It s fair to say that the United States is a postcard for success and opportunity, but what s missing is the equal chance for every US citizen to be able to achieve the dream. In America, we base our accomplishments on the success and failure of others around us. We have created a society built upon status, and therefore taken the Dream and stamped an unrealistic American image all over it. There is no doubt that there is a dream, but the reality is that for many, it only will be a dream. The gap between wealth and poverty is growing exponentially every year, and the struggle to achieve the dream, is becoming more and more out of reach. According to the CPS, More than half of America s working age families with children under age eighteen (approximately 20.1 million families) have annual incomes of $60,000 or below and on the opposite end of this, less than 3% of families earn an income of $260,000 a year. The benefits of being in a higher class based on economic and social status, labels the American Dream as invalid, where only the wealthy elite can win. It would be favorable to say that You go as far as your dreams take you , or, You get out of the system as much as you put in . • 19. Association between Air Polluiton and Lung Cancer Many epidemiologic studies have found an association between ambient air pollution and lung cancer. This evidence lead the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to report air pollution as a category 1 or definite cause of cancer. The IARC reviewed over 1000 studies from five continents and covering many different scientific fields. They concluded that air pollution is linked to increased cancer incidence, with lung cancer being the most prevalent (Pope, 2013). Air pollution occurs when the air is contaminated by foreign substances. These substances can be liquid or solid and they are small enough that they remain suspended in the air. Some of the substances can be toxic chemicals which can include sulphur dioxide (SO2), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), ozone (O3), volatile organic compounds and suspended particulate matter (PM). When talking about air pollution we categorize the particles with the term particulate matter (PM). Suspended particulate matter (PM) is divided into three groups based on the diameter of the particle. PM2.5 refers to particles with a diameter less that 2.5 micrometers (µm), PM10 classifies particles with a diameter between 2.5 and 10 µm, and PM10 defines particles with a diameter greater than 10 µm. Just that screen shot of the two elderly people juxtaposed together to create a composition that plays off of each other is very powerful in itself. The book The Philosophy of Language Film Analysis explains to us that these types of scenarios, elderly people in an old building, help to create a really strong scene and help the movie a lot. If we has seen Paul and Elaine walk into a brand new mansion the effect of Paul s suffering would not be understood. The next shot is of both Paul and Elaine getting down on the old wood floor and are playing with Mr. Jingles. Then Paul starts explaining the details of the story to Elaine and they go back and forth conversing. He is explaining to her that he was cursed for killing a miracle of God and his punishment is to stay alive while those around him that he loves must die. Both he and Mr. Jingles got a piece of John Coffey when they had their little encounters with him, and together they must go on. We see three different shots throughout the majority of this scene. Companies such as Victoria s Secret spend large amounts of money each year broadcasting these types of images on TV, in magazines, and on billboards. With the widespread access to media that exists today, Victoria s Secret s target audience is very large. With the growth of the advertising industry, there has been a shift toward the idea that being perfect includes being tall and skinny with flawless hair and skin. • 46. Ratifying The Constitution Essay Although the constitution was written over 200 years ago, the constitution continues to form the foundation to our modern day america. Nowadays the general consensus is that the constitution is a reliable document that is still relevant to this day. However the trust that we now place in the constitution wasn t always present. During the time of its ratification there were two political factions ,the Federalists and the Anti Federalists, whose view on the power vested by the constitution clashed. Creating a massive political debate that would shape the future of the nation. The Federalist were people who believed that a strong centralized government would be necessary for the united states to prevail. This desire for a strong central government was actually the driving force behind the creation of the constitution in an attempt to replace the articles of confederation. • 48. Elon Musk And Its Impact On The Planet Within every generation, there are some individuals who transcend expectations and seek to innovate beyond all preconceived boundaries. Elon Musk is one of those individuals, and he s currently valued at $11.9 billion. But how did this South African born entrepreneur make his way into virtually every technological industry on the planet? How did he become the space traveling, futuristic car selling, loudmouthed computer genius we all know today? Elon Musk took an interest in computing and innovation from a very young age. By his thirteenth birthday, he had already taught himself programming, constructed a complex space themed computer game, and sold it to a large corporation. After moving to the United States and earning a bachelor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And if that wasn t enough already, Musk refused to take a steady job at a company, but rather build his own. He completely ignored the fact that eight out of ten new businesses fail within their first five years (Forbes) in other words, that the odds were not in his favor. But the notions of progress, innovation and wild success were so pivotally important to Musk that he truly felt that this was his calling. He and his brother Kimbal soon created Zip2, an Internet software product that allowed newspapers to create city guides for their readers. After four years of expansion, including contracts with The New York Times, Musk and his associates sold the company for a whopping $307 million. At just 28, he was already a millionaire on his way to defying even more odds and pursuing important goals. I always invest my own money in the companies that I create. I don t believe in the whole thing of just using other people s money. I don t think that s right. I m not going to ask other people to invest in something if I m not prepared to do so myself. Musk never half committed or submitted to being unsure. After his success with Zip2, he invested virtually all of the money he had earned into his next venture, this time focusing on online payment services. While many questioned his logic, Musk subsequently succeeded in merging with a company who would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Becoming A Summer Camp Counselor Essay Becoming a summer camp counselor was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was a camper for 10 years and the transition to counselor felt like a natural step forward. Even though I loved my job and the campers I spent my time with, it was far from easy. I was responsible for 10 to 30 children, 24 hours a day, and planned many of the activities the campers participated in. I was placed in this leadership position, but without the other 40 staff members, I would not have had a successful summer. Our team communicated well, relied on each other for support, and talked through any issues that arose. There were many tough situations at camp and many days where I was mentally and physically exhausted. Being able to rely on the team and being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Piggy And Jack In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies Piggy and Jack cannot get along because of their clashing, yet similar, types of intelligence. Piggy is classified as the intelligent character, thinking everything through carefully and efficiently. Where Jack is smart in a manipulative way, and gained power by persuading and tricking the boys on the island to be their leader. Piggy s intelligence can be seen through his rational ideas. For example, Piggy recommends to use the conch to control the boys: We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us. The meeting that Piggy calls shows his desire to create a civil environment on the island. Piggy has smart ideas that influenced everyone in a positive way. Jack, however, has an opposite type of intelligence, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the start of the book, Piggy is described as a restricted character. He is limited by both physical and mental confinements. At his first description, Piggy explains how he can t run, on account of (his) asthma. (5) From this characteristic of Piggy, it limits his leadership. Most good leaders have no restrictions, even from physical health; they are strong both physically and mentally. Piggy is also not mentally cut out to be leader. When Jack is introduced, Piggy is described as being intimidated by this uniformed superiority and the offhand authority in Merridew s voice. (13) Piggy is daunted by the strong authority shown in others, which is not a quality a good leader possesses. Unlike Piggy, Jack gained power at one point on the island, but like Piggy, he always lacked strong leadership. Jack is an impulsive character, which is ultimately bad for everyone on the island. Given his crave for hunting, it is easy to understand that Jack puts his main focus into killing, rather than surviving. Jack drew his knife again with a flourish, (23) Jack has a compulsion to track down and kill that was swallowing him up. (42) A good leader is confident and strong, and they think ahead, taking into account every problem. Jack and Piggy both wanted a high position in the hierarchy, but ultimately both can not reach that due to their lack of good leadership. This similarity sets the boys up ... • 51. Strong And Weak Identifiers According to the author, national identity is inherently social and is centered on people s strong bond and sense of community with their fellow group members. People are placed into national groups either by choice or by default. The strength of the person s membership depends on the level of commitment they feel towards the national group. The level of commitment divides group members into strong and weak identifiers. Group members of a national group that care about the group s well being are considered strong identifiers. These members are strongly committed and often see their national group membership as part of their sense of self. Strong identifiers hold and follow group norms so they can be the best prototype for their national identity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Strong identifiers are treated more fairly when they are seen as the prototype of the group. Their opinions about their group are highly valued and taken into consideration between all of the members. Because of their high commitment to their group, strong identifiers remain loyal though hard times and times of doubt. They want to protect the group s image by focusing on the positive aspects. When faced with negative information about their group, these members will defend their group s actions and criticisms in order to protect the group image. Group members do not tolerate weak identifier s criticisms. Their criticisms of their group are often not listened to and disregarded by members who have stronger commitments. This could be because weak identifiers do not share the same level of loyalty as strong identifiers. Weak identifiers care less about the groups image and do not feel a strong need to defend the group. I consider myself a strong identifier in being an American. I would say that I fit the typical stereotype of an American. I support the choices Americans make and remain loyal even through the bad decisions. When natural disasters or unexpected tragedies happen in America, I feel instant empathy towards everyone that was effected, even if I have never met them. I see every American and myself as one big community. Being an American has always been a part of my identity and I couldn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Big Data And Cloud Solutions Essay Big Data and Cloud Solutions Organizations have accumulated lots of data throughout the years and realized how they could use it for their benefit; this is where Big Data emerged. It has become a way for organizations to analyze data and use it to their advantage. The purpose of this paper is to provide an introduction to what Big Data is, its relationship to cloud computing and its architectural options like: streaming processing, big data storage, application hosting, big data analytics, machine learning, data import, and data sources. A comparison of four big data/cloud computing solutions with a detailed matrix, is also provided in order to determine a recommendation of which solution is the best. Big Data Big Data can be understood and defined in different ways. In simple terms, Big Data is a collection of data from several sources like: traditional and digital from inside and outside of an organization that represents a source for ongoing analysis and discovery. It is a term applied to massive quantity of data that organizations can collect from their operation and that cannot be easily managed by traditional database systems (Colorado State University Global Campus, 2016, p.1). It s also important to understand that Big Data can be a mix of unstructured and structured data.
