2. Overcoming The Odds
Perseverance Bullies will push someone over the edge to make themselves feel good. That youth
might cry, but if he stands up to the bully he might learn something by doing so. Standing up to the
bully shows strength and makes the bully realize he can t control the life that was meant to be free.
Perseverance means simply not to give up. Perseverance pushes people where they would not have
gone and gives them a lasting mental toughness that helps them to deal with whatever is in their path.
Perseverance was shown in the stories; Overcoming the Odds, and About Nick: His Story by doing
what they would not have done without persevering through their problems. The article Overcoming
the Odds explains about the Royals 2015 season. The Royals seemed like the team that overcame
obstacles together, but in reality each player had a story behind their victory. Take Chris Young for
example, who missed all of 2013 as he contended with thoracic outlet syndrome, and later mourned
his father s death during the season. Young had all the reason to give up and nobody would have
blamed him. Like Chris Young, Nick from the story About Nick: ... Show more content on

3. Edmund Feldman and Art Criticism Essay
Edmund Burke Feldman was an Alumni Foundation Distinguished University Professor of Art at the
University of Georgia. He was an art educator as well as an art historian. He has written several books
about art including The Philosophy of Art Education, First Edition, 1995. The primary focus of this
paper is to inform and show what Doctor Feldman thought was important to art teachers by correlating
the practices of teaching art to the issues of philosophy Doctor Feldman wanted to bring together both
subjects of art education and art teaching. He outlined the principle issues of art education and
provided art teachers with a way of creating goals for teaching art.
Dr. Feldman revealed that the approach to art education should be seen ... Show more content on

The third and fourth steps, however, begin to be more abstract and evaluative in nature. Instead of
technical, the conversation begins to move into the aesthetic considerations of the art. Obviously, it is
easier for an observer to complete the first two steps of the Feldman Method but it is necessary for the
observer to engage in the final two steps in order to garner the full meaning of the art, especially as it
affects him or her. The observer moves from seeing the art as an object at a distance to an object being
engaged and attended to in meaningful ways. If then an instructional leader begins to describe
teaching behaviors as art, one can observe that the same movement from concern about self to concern
about others also happens.
To put it differently, initially the conversation focuses on the technical dimensions and afterwards
addresses the aesthetic elements of the lesson. In the first two steps, the instructional supervisor
observes the lesson in its technical dimensions. The observer describes and analyzes the lesson and
these pieces are very important. In fact, without these two steps, and in particular learning outcomes
and classroom management, being successful it is premature to consider other parts of the lesson. If,
on the other hand, the supervisor describes and analyzes the lesson with a

In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart. This quote proves that Anne
Frank cared about everyone even if they did not treat her with respect. Anne Frank was a strong,
young girl who was alive during the Holocaust. She and her family had to go into hiding because of
what they believed in. During the Holocaust it was a very rough time for Jewish people. For example,
they had to wear the star of David and if they were found they were taken to a concentration camp,
where they were treated rudely and with no respect. After Anne and her family were found they were
sent to a concentration camp, but while they were there Anne was still happy and positive there. She
also had to stay strong even though they were given very little food and water. Finally, Anne was a
caring and loving teenager, just because they were in closed quarters for many hours of the day Anne

this because their celebration of Hanukkah was not over, Anne gathered gifts for everyone from

presents.
Anne Frank was a very strong willed child growing up during the Holocaust. She had to stay strong
during this rough time. For example the narrator said, She is no longer a child, but a women with
courage to meet whatever lies ahead. I picked this quote because it tells us what Anne truly had to go

5. Media Influence On The Media
The media played an immense role in shaping the publics resentment and negative attitudes towards
the crime Lindy Chamberlin had supposedly committed, by picturing her as neglectful and murderess
mother. The media had perceived Lindy in a harsh light and the public saw her as un emotive and
neglecting mother and for this she was vastly scrutinized. The publics attitudes towards her are based
on her unmotherly behavior because she did not act like a grief stricken mother, have hysteric, go into
pieces, require drug or any external therapy . Rumors and theories were used and manipulated by the
media in order to get the best ratings or most papers sold, eventually these theories became facts in the
eyes of individuals such as the: Azaria meaning sacrifice, she always wore black because she was a

Australians believed that Lindy Chamberlin was guilty, upon being asked why they though so, the
responces given were unjustifiable, you can tell jus by looking into her eyes or mothers don t do that .
Therefore this crime become even more confronting because the idea of a mother, whose nature is to
nurture and protect killing her child was outrageous. Lindy provides that it was not that she was un
emotive, but the media decided not to exhibit images of her crying or looking upset. Therefore this
crime exhibits that society incriminates individuals if they do not conform to our idea of

6. Mechanical And Structural Factors Of An Aircraft
Aircrafts are and always have been a great mode of transportation and come with many clear
advantages over many other forms of transportation . This in turn may be one of the main causes of
their popularity and success over the years. Aircrafts are used commercially, Privately and they even
have military applications. Aircrafts have always been an iconic sign of freedom. Even in the media
and in commercial advertisements an airplane can be a symbolic tool used to instill security, freedom
and luxury. Although there have been a great many advancements in mechanics and engineering of the
aircrafts over the years, and many people consider them to be a reliable mode of transportation they
still all have the capacity for mechanical or structural failures. In this paper we will begin to explore
some of the main causes of these failures as well as the mechanical and structural factors behind them.
An aircraft will typically fail because of an excess of stress applied to one or multiple mechanical or
structural components. A more exact definition of stress is; The force perpendicular to the cross
sectional area of the member divided by the cross sectional area. (chapter 8 lecture) There are several
different types of stress and certain points of stress on an aircraft are more susceptible to damage or
failure. In this paper we will also begin to analyze these factors to provide a more clear understanding
of the mechanical and structural factors of aviation. According to Dr. Hans

7. The Battle On The Plains Of Abraham
In 2009 a planned re enactment of the Battle on the Plains of Abraham was set to take place on the
original battlefield in light of its 250th anniversary. However the historical re enactment of the 1759
battle was cancelled by The National Battlefields Commission for security concerns that could, as
CBC News wrote, turn into a modern day conflict. There is speculation other factors influenced the
withdrawal of the re enactment such as the overwhelming negative responses from the francophones
in Quebec. These negative reactions were supported by the devastation resulting from the loss of the
battle in 1759 and the modern day neglect of Quebec and French culture. I commend the decision to
cancel the re enactment of the Battle because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore I stand in favour of the threats alone being reasonable grounds for the federal body to cancel
the re enactment. Parti Quebecois was also blamed for the cancellation for their statement that event is
a slap in the face to Quebecers of French ancestry (CBC News) which got a rise out of those in
support of this political group as they began trying to stop the event. The statement released by Parti
Quebecois definitely had a hand in spreading awareness of the negative opinions of the re enactment
which ultimately led to large group of people opposed to the event resulting in the cancellation. All in
all, to those in charge, the cancellation of the event was about keeping innocent families out of harm s
way, preventing a modern day Battle based on the historical one from occurring, and maintaining a
civil status between the French and English in Quebec. Although the threats of violence from activist
groups were the official reason given for the cancellation of the re enactment, there are speculations of
other reasons as to why the federal body made this decision.
With the announcement of re enacting the Battle on the Plains of Abraham came an overwhelming
amount of negative feedback from Quebec residents, the reason being that the loss of the Battle began
a traumatic period in history for the French. With their victory, the British began trying to assimilate
the French, it was only

9. The Benefits Of Peaceful Protest
Peacefully protesting to show support of a cause is not harmful to society. In the past, it has been a
technique simply to show you feel that your situation, a law or a proposition is not justified, in your
eyes. Protesting in that way does not damage society, however protests too often escalate to anger and
violence, diminishing the validity of the cause being demonstrated.
Peaceful protest can be an effective and beneficial way to make a point about how many in a
population feel strongly about an issue, yet many protests do not go as intended. The idea is to calmly
make your opinion known, to get noticed and to demonstrate the sheer mass of opposition to a
particular topic. Peaceful protest alone is not harmful, it is simply a group of people ... Show more

Violent protest is divisive it turns citizens away from seeing reason in your stance, costs taxpayers
money for police protection and control and drives people strongly to one side or the other of the
issues protested. The reason that protests are often seen as dangerous is because they can turn sour as
the result of people using this power and ability to demonstrate as a reason to injure and destroy, often
without any connection to the original protested topic. Protesters have been known to break shop
windows, throw bricks at cars and even injure or kill one another in extreme situations. Peacekeepers
attempting to protect the citizens and prevent escalation are often vilified and presented as brutalizing
peaceful protesters.
As an example, the Women s March was held at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the day after
the inauguration of President Donald Trump. The March was billeted by some as a backlash against
the election of President Trump, as serving notice that America will not cower in the face of bigotry.
The turnout dwarfed that of Trump s inauguration ceremony. It seemed as though the liberal Left spent
so much time lecturing Trump supporters on the importance of accepting the election outcome, but
when the results weren t what they expected, Democrats were first shocked, then threw a metaphorical

11. Ray Bradbury s Flying Machine
Flying Machine by Ray Bradbury is a short story that highlights the consequences of possessing too
much power, jealousy, and fear among other themes, through the use of symbolism, diction, metaphor,
and foreshadowing. Furthermore, Bradbury shows that it is very common for people to disregard the
interests of others, in order to benefit his or herself. Ancient Chinese culture contains many symbolic
creatures and objects. The most prominent and common symbol however, is arguably the dragon. The
Chinese dragon is symbolic of great power over air, sea, and land, and it is believed that they control
rainfall, floods, and typhoons. In Flying Machine , the man is flying above the Great Wall, in a
contraption that had a similar appearance to a dragon. It is as a result of this that Emperor Yuan
reacted so severely upon the sight. Some other man who, seeing you, will build a thing of bright
papers and bamboo like this. But the other man will have an evil face and an evil heart, and the beauty
will be gone. It is this man I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another major symbol in the story is the Great Wall itself. The Emperor realizes its significance to the
people of China, and he feels like the flying man jeopardizes the wall, thus jeopardizing them also.
That wonderful wall which had protected them for a timeless time from enemy hordes and preserved
peace for years without number. He saw the town, nestled to itself by a river and a road and a hill,
beginning to waken (31, 32). This indicates that the wall is of the utmost importance to the country, as
well as him personally, and this is the first time that he realizes that it might be in jeopardy. It is
possible that Emperor Yuan views the wall as an extension of himself, and that losing the wall to an
enemy meant losing his power. This shows that he had a personal interest in defending the wall, giving
further insight into why he had the man

Meat Loaf s album Bat Out Of Hell was released in 1977, and is considered by many as an iconic
album cover. In 2001, it was rated 71st in Q Magazine s listing of The 100 Best Album Covers of All
Time . Singer Meat Loaf and composer Jim Steinman commissioned the cover artwork from the
renowned comic artist Richard Corben, best known for his sci fi and fantasy work. Corben s
illustration effectively advertises the album s contents to the target audience as well as creating the
beginnings of a visual identity for Meat Loaf .
The illustration was designed to fit the size and shape of an album cover measuring 12.375 inches
square. The original artwork was painted on a 24 inch square canvas board using oil and acrylic paint.
Designing an illustration to fit these precise dimensions can be challenging as you are limited by both
size and shape, which restricts the composition.

the entire album. By concentrating on the one song Coben has created a very powerful, eye catching

a family with a husband, wife, and children and instead defines the role of men and women separately,
Aristotle uses the family as a microcosm of political society, in the hopes of showing readers how to
create a just society for the former and a virtuous one for the latter.
Plato describes the Kallipolis the ideal city for the ancient Greeks in his Republic. The Kallipolis
prides itself on abiding by the truth of justice, which Plato defines as a citizen doing one s one work
that fits his character (Plato 119). By doing one s own work, the citizen is contributing to the greater
good of society, which Plato coins as the ultimate key to justice accordingly, the better [will be ruling]
the worse, [which] is to be described as temperate and master of itself (117). This specialization
characterizes the role of family in the political society one that consists of each individual doing one s
own work to contribute to the greater good. However, the family in the Republic is so loosely created
that readers may interpret the family as nonexistent in Plato s novel.

22. Analysis Of The Rose In The Sick Rose
The Rose A rose generally symbolizes love and purity. Roses are used in weddings, for anniversaries,
or given just to say I love you. When roses are seen in our daily lives we don t find ourselves thinking
bad thoughts but after reading several poems that involve this beautiful flower it opens up new
meanings. The poem I am like a rose by D.H. Lawrence shows how the writer compares himself to a
rose. One Perfect Rose by Dorothy Parker symbolizes the rose as a traditional flower given as a gift
and The Sick Rose by William Blake brings an idea of the darkness of a rose. These three poems show
similarities and vast differences of a rose as they are expressed throughout the stories they tell. D.H.
Lawrence seems to compare humans to a flower throughout the poem I am like a Rose . As the writer
starts he initially says I am myself at last (Lawrence line 1). The writer seems to have struggled
possibly in to the past trying to figure out who he is or what his purpose might be. This line suggests
that he has finally found who he truly is and the freedom that he feels knowing this. He also shows
that he knows his differences now from other humans or individuals around him just as a rose is
different from other roses when he writes And single me, perfected from my fellow (Lawrence line 4).
He is not suggesting that neither he nor a rose is perfect but that both are perfectly different from
others. While humans are much alike, there are still many things that make each one unique just as
each flower is made individually. The roses can look the same but if we look closely we can always
find little things that set them apart from any other rose or flower. Perfectly set apart from one another.
Itself more sheer and naked out of the green, in stark clear roses, than I to myself am brought.
(Lawrence lines 7 8) shows that a rose stands out from all the things that surrounds it and he like the
flower as he stands out from other people around him. He is not timid about setting himself apart but
acts excited that he knows who he is and is proud to be that person. Lawrence seems relieved that he
knows himself now and the roots he is from. He shows no embarrassment or shame. One Perfect Rose

23. Speech On Becoming A Firefighter
Becoming a firefighter requires specific qualities such as strength, endurance, and bravery. Those who
inspire to become a firefighter must devote their time and well being to those in crisis. A firefighter
does not just hang around the station all day, instead you will have to field many calls. When you are
not working you will have to be helping out around the station. The station does not just stay clean
itself you will be assigned chores and duties you will have to follow. Being in physical shape is also a
main part of being a firefighter.
Now there is also types of fires firefighters need to know about. The first type of fire there is class A
fire. A class A fire are the most ordinary and basic type of fire. They are ordinary combustible fires
like wood, paper, cloth, trash, and plastics. Class B fires are caused by flammable liquids. Flammable
liquids for example are things like gasoline, petroleum oil, and paint. Class B fires also include
flammable gases. The gases that are in class B are things like propane and butane. Some people might
mistake fires caused by cooking oils and grease as a class B but that is not true at all they are not
considered in the category. Class C fires involve electrical equipment. Electrical equipment such as
motors not just car motors, transformers, and appliances. If you remove the power from any of the
things listed it will no longer be able to be consider as a class C fire it will get reclassified as a
different group of fire class.

Frozen: A Tale of Two Princesses The fictional movie Frozen is based on the lives of Anna and Elsa,
two sisters who are also princesses. Frozen received many prestigious awards in the film community,
such as Academy Awards and Golden Globes. The fact that Frozen proved to be such an adored and
acclaimed movie did not come as a surprise to me. After watching Frozen with my younger daughter,
it quickly became one of my favorite Disney movies due in part to the positive messages it taught
throughout the movie. Anna and Elsa are the two main characters in this movie. In the beginning of

Anna begs Elsa time and time again to play and do things that they did earlier in their childhood. Elsa
simply instructs Anna to go away and leave her alone, since she is not allowed to have contact with
anyone for fear her powers might harm them. The movie takes another dark, twisted turn when Anna
and Elsa are both orphaned at a young age when their parents ship is overturned at sea. Following
their parents death, it is learned that Elsa will become the new Queen. The castle doors have remained
locked for years in an effort to hide Elsa s powers from the Kingdom of Arrendele. To celebrate Elsa
becoming Arrendele s new queen, a coronation celebration is held inside the castle. Elsa is
apprehensive and anxious about the ceremony. She fears that the kingdom will learn of the powers she
has been desperately trying to conceal her entire life. Anna sees the coronation ceremony as a
chance to interact with new faces and host an extravagant ball. While Anna craves for attention and
interaction, Elsa shies away from new people and feels threatened by outsiders. Being that Anna is the
hopeless romantic in the story, she is quick to fall in love with Prince Hans, almost immediately after
they meet. Anna asks Elsa for her blessing to marry Hans. Elsa, being level headed and the more
rational of the two, quickly denies Anna s request. An argument soon follows, and Elsa is

25. Global Warming Is A Real Phenomenon
INTRODUCTION
Global warming has become a central problem in the scientific community, while viewed as more of a
severe problem by some people and policy makers than other, the consensus in the scientific
community is that global warming is a very real phenomenon. Although the global warming is still
debated as far as how fast and severe the problem is, scientific data has shown that the average global
temperature has increased by 0.4 to 0.8 Celsius during the last 100 years
(http://www.livescience.com/, 02 18 2016).
Sustainable development is a central concept within the environmental frame of thought and closely
linked to the problem of global warming. The term sustainable development refers to the use of
resources in a sustainable way, namely meeting the need of resources while not depleting them for
future generations. The concept of sustainable development contains both needs and limitations, i.e.
resources that are needed as well as technological and social limitations in responsible retrieval of
those resources (World Commission on Environment and Development, 41).
Achieving sustainable development is however a difficult problem that has many different aspects to
it. Recycling is a main component of sustainable development and an important aspect in a variety of
industries. Metal exists in almost every industry, whether it is the manufacture of steel beams,
precious metals for computers or copper cables for powerlines. Considering that metal recycling is a

26. Bowel Cancer Prevention
Prevention of Bowel Cancer
Introduction
The bowel is a hollow tube within the digestive system composed of the small bowel (small intestine)
and large bowel (colon and rectum). Bowel cancer generally affects the large bowel, which absorbs
water from digested food and then produces waste (Cancer research UK, 2014). Bowel cancer, also
known as colorectal cancer, develops from uncontrollable cell division of polyps, pre cancerous
growth cells, which cause potential harm within the bowel (Bowel cancer UK, 2016). Bowel cancer is
treatable and curable if diagnosed early; nevertheless, by simply adopting healthier changes to your
lifestyle, two thirds of cases could be prevented (Cancer research UK, 2010).

The recommended weekly amount of cooked red meat (beef, lamb and pork) is 500 grams, though it is
advised that red meat and processed meat (bacon, ham and salami) is replaced with healthier
alternatives such as fish, poultry, soya and quorn. (Beating bowel cancer, 2016).
Conclusion
Based on hereditary, lifestyle and dietary factors discussed, bowel cancer can be prevented by taking
these preventative measures into strict consideration. Ultimately, living a healthy lifestyle will lead
towards a lower risk of this unwanted disease, likewise, bad lifestyle choices will significantly
increase the risk. Hence, taking precautions and adjusting lifestyle choices in a positive manner will
not only decrease the possibility of developing bowel cancer but consequently will improve the
quality of life, which is beneficial in the long

During this invasion, Israel declared southern Lebanon as a security zone. During these attacks, there

31. Dr. Seuss Instruments
The synopsis of the process of the Dr. Seuss theme instrument. The design of our project was based
upon the instruments seen in the Dr. Seuss novels. The instrument is multi colored and similar to the
color scheme found on the cover of the book, Oh, the Places You ll Go. The shape and unique
structure are also attributed to many distinctive instruments found in Dr. Seuss stories. We decided to
have two mouthpieces available, so two people can play the instrument at the same time and the
overall structure characterizes the disproportionate instruments seen in the books. Going with the
theme, the sound created is also very interesting. When assembling the instrument, we had stuck wax
paper between the parts of the pipe, creating a kazoo like sound. We had chosen to use PVC pipes in
order to lock in the sound, leaving no air to escape, and funnels in order to amplify the sound being
given off. Before our final design, there had happened to be another idea we were going for. The
design had included a chamber that would contain soft air gun pellets or bb gun pellets that were
capped off by 3D printed discs, covering each end of the side chambers. These discs would have holes
that would allow air to enter the chamber, move the pellets around and create a rattle sound ... Show

32. Emily Dickinson s ILl Tell You How The Sun Rose
In a body, nerves run underneath the layers of skin and grant a body the ability to feel. Without skin,
the slightest touch would cause a piercing pain, no matter what surface a person touched. If a body
had more layers of skin, it would be harder to feel the details of the surfaces, and everything would
lose its meaning. By missing a layer of skin, this enhances a person s ability to feel his or her
surroundings, which makes a person more sensitive to their surroundings. Emily Dickinson s
sensitivity, once compared to missing a layer of skin, is reflected in her poetry.
Emily Dickinson expresses her sensitivity by writing details that most people would not notice. Emily
Dickinson shows her sensitivity in her poem, I ll Tell You How the Sun Rose. She writes I ll tell you
how the sun rose, / a ribbon at a time. / The steeples swam in amethyst /... The hill untied their bonnets
( I ll Tell You How the Sun Rose lines 1,2,3,5). An insensitive person might describe the sunrise as a
transition from a dark night into bright day. Emily Dickinson, on the other hand, describes the sunrise
by the way the colors come across the sky. An example of this is the second line, a ribbon at a time ( I
ll Tell You How the Sun Rose line 2). This line illustrates how the sun slowly unravels colors into the
sky, extending the process so it can be enjoyed longer. Also, when Emily Dickinson writes The
steeples swam in amethyst, she paints a picture for the reader to depict a church s

33. Analysis Of Transparent By Mort Pfefferman
As Jill Soloway s TV show Transparent begins, the opening credits offer a glimpse into the ideas of
gender. From the lighting of a candle, symbolizing light into the darkness of life, to a shimmering blue
dress that worn by a female impersonator the opening credits reveal the process of becoming a
transgender. Transitioning from a male to a female, or vice versa, is a feat that only a few come to do.
However, in the show Transparent, Mort Pfefferman transitions into Maura Pfefferman, a masculine
figure who blossoms in femininity and bravery. While it is already a difficult task to come out as
transgender, Maura has to deal with the drama revolving with her family.
Throughout the first season of Transparent, gender identity is explored and seen through the
challenges that the characters face. For instance, Maura struggles to reveal his true identity to his
children. In episode 1, Pilot, Mort calls his children and invites them to dinner. The children suspect
that Maura has a terminal disease; however, Maura is planning on revealing his greatest secret: that
she is transitioning. Later that evening, after Sarah and Josh leave, Ali, the child who Maura sees
resemblance in the most, stays aside to talk to Maura. They have a quick conversation about their
days, but before Ali leaves, Maura utters Boy, it is so hard when someone sees something you do not
want them to see (Citation). This quote truly reveals the overarching message of the television show:
we all hold secrets.

36. Organizational Growth
ORGANIZATIONAL GROWTH
_______________________________________
Growth is something for which most companies, large or small, strive. Small firms want to get big, big
firms want to get bigger. Organizational growth, however, means different things to different
organizations. How, then, is growth defined? How is it achieved? How does a company survive it?
PHASES OF GROWTH
A number of scholars and management theorists have developed models of how organizations change
and grow. One such model is that of Larry E. Greiner, a management and organization professor at the
University of Southern California. In his 1998 Harvard Business Review article entitled Evolution and
Revolution as Organizations Grow, Greiner outlined five phases of ... Show more content on

ROI tells management whether the profits being generated are enough to compensate for the
opportunity costs, the risks, and the time value of the money that the company has invested to produce
those profits. A related metric is return on assets (ROA), which evaluates profits against the value of
all the assets (capital, plant, equipment, etc.) the company has channeled into generating its income.
For many companies, especially publicly held ones, the ultimate measure of growth is the creation of
wealth for owners/investors. While net profits are an indication of wealth creation, companies (or their
observers) may scrutinize their finances further to determine whether they are actually generating an
economic profit, or a profit that exceeds the implicit cost of the capital invested in them. It is only
after the cost of capital is met that the company may be said to create new wealth. This growth may
also be expressed in terms of market value added, a more direct measure of shareholder wealth
creation.
ACHIEVING GROWTH
While there are many academic models depicting the growth stages of a company, management guru
Tom Peters strongly suggests several real world ways for companies large and small to achieve
organizational growth. The business press routinely reports on the activities of companies employing
these suggestions.
