International Accounting Standards Board And Financial...
It all began on October 2002 where the International Accounting Standards Board and Financial
Accounting Board signed a memorandum of understanding that has come to be known as the Norwalk
Agreement . Here the two boards met and decided to make their standards fully compatible and put it
into practice and once they conquer their goal, they have to make sure it is maintained. But before I
divulge into details regarding the future and presently achieved goals of the convergence, I would like
to throw some light on the history and background of the two boards involved. International
Accounting Standards were formed between 1973 and 2001 by the board of the International
Accounting Standards Committee (IASC). On 1 April 2001, the new ... Show more content on

After the year 2001 almost 120 countries have adopted the use of IFRS. On the other hand The United
States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles have been set by the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (AICPA) which is subject to Securities and Exchange Commission regulations.
The AICPA first created the Committee on Accounting Procedure in 1939, and replaced that with the
Accounting Principles Board in 1959. In 1973, the Accounting Principles Board was replaced by the
Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) under the supervision of the Financial Accounting
Foundation with the Financial Accounting Standards advisory council serving to advise and provide
input on the accounting standards. Organizations such as United States Security and Exchange
Commission, Financial Accounting Standard Board, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board
influence the GAAP in the United States.
Coming back to convergence, for the past several years the IASB and IASC before 2001, have been
working to develop high quality, easy to understand, and practicable International Financial Reporting
Standards to serve investors creditors, around the world in globalized capital markets to make
investment decisions. When IASB took over from the IASC in 2001, few countries back then had
accepted and practiced International Accounting Standards. Everything changed with the

Analyzing Three Groups Of Advertisements Based On The...
After reading Which Ad Pulled Best , I am going to analysis three groups of advertisements based on
the criterions provide by the reading. The first one is Example 19, an advertisement about Timex
Watch. I think the second ad did a better job than the first one. To start with, when I saw the second
ad, I can easily recognize the benefit the product offers compare to the first one. In the second ad, it
named out the benefit in the upper page, which is The Timer Turn Pill Alarm Watch, More convenient
than any excuse. When I read this heading, I can know what unique feature that Timex offers that
different from other watch makers. In the middle of the page it uses three scenarios to show the alarm
feature of this watch. All three scenarios are very common in our everyday life. So when people read
this ad, they may think about themselves in that situation. And when I saw this part of the ad, I know
what message the advertiser what to convey when you buy this watch, you can avoid all those
situations and this watch will keep you be on time for everything. When looking carefully, you will
see there are some figures teach you how to set the alarm. In this way, people can easily understand
how to use it. At the bottom of the page, there are a few sentences to further explain how to use the
alarm system and also introduce two more features, which are sound and light flash. Also, this ad is
advertised in People magazine, which is a general audience weekly magazine, focusing on

A Look into Psalms 119
Everyday millions of Americans read stories to their children before they go to bed. I often read Dr.
Seuss books to my son Seth, who is four years old. He loves the rhythm and rimes that are those
books. One of his favorites is Green Eggs and Ham. Seth has begun to answer the questions of Sam,
answering him for the other character saying he does not like green eggs and ham . It caught my
attention that some of the Psalms also have a repetitive nature. Psalm 119 is the longest of all the
Psalms and is very repetitive. Many people only read one section of the Psalm because of the
repetitive nature and do not look at the chapter as a whole. There is a lack of churches teaching on the
Psalms and some a not reading them at all. Psalm 119 is more than a long repetitive Psalm, reading it
as one passage there is evidence of determination by the author to show why following the Lord s
teaching is vital to life as a Christian. Comparison of three sections of Psalm 119 will show how the
Psalm repeats the same theme throughout the work. This shows that the repetition is helpful in
remembering the reason for follow God s laws. The first section is 119:1 8 and will show the message
the psalmist trying to convey. The second section is 119:33 40 and this will show that God is our
teacher and one way to learn is to follow God s instructions. The third section is 119:65 72 this
conveys that life is found in the openness of God s instruction. All these sections together

Education And The National Curriculum Framework
While teaching in state maintained schools, it is necessary that the National Curriculum Framework is
followed and children are taught the relevant skills and knowledge stated within each Programme of
Study. Therefore, there must be structure to the lessons where these skills and knowledge are to be
developed throughout the academic year. Previous teaching strategies required teachers to follow a
rigid plan where each individual lesson was to last one hour and be taught at a certain time on a
certain day (i.e. The Literacy Hour). These strategies are no longer necessary for teachers to follow
anymore; it is now possible for teachers to integrate lessons using a central theme, enabling them to
teach pupils in a more imaginative and original way, which will stimulate children s interest and
engagement whilst still developing the necessary skills and knowledge specified in the National
Curriculum (Sewell, 2015). This integrated curriculum allows children to pursue learning in a holistic
way without the restrictions often imposed by subject boundaries (Kelly, 2001). Subject integration
provides an opportunity for students to make natural and meaningful connections between and among
multiple content areas (Bogan, King McKenzie, Bantwini, 2012:1055). The human brain does not
separate knowledge into discrete partitions but creates a complex web of information that recognises
patterns... , thus thematic teaching works with the brain rather than counter to its natural function

A Deeper Look into Ravens Symbolic Meaning to the Inuit:
Contextual Analysis of Indigenous Mythology
Raven was an incredible animal to the Native North American Inuit culture; he was extremely
symbolic in many ways. One of the most important things Raven could do was transform; he was the
barrier of magic to many, being able to transform could bring happiness to everyone. The Inuit culture
believed that Raven could heal many due to his magic and great level of intelligence. Raven is the
keeper of secrets, and can assist the Inuit people in finding their own hidden thoughts. Raven is also

The Inuit people find it very useful for their society to understand the spiritual part of their culture
because it helps them connect to each other and their inner self. Culture is extremely significant to the
Inuit people and they spent a lot of time practicing how to greater it. In Concise Dictionary of Social
and Cultural Anthropology by Mike Morris culture is defined as: general use, culture is usually treated
as an attribute of quality of refinement in the mind, which can be accumulated or exercised through
reading, attending the theatre, and classical music concerts and similar pursuits (pg.56). Culture is also
defined by Charles Winick in Dictionary of Anthropology as: all that which is nonbiological and
socially transmitted in a society, including artistic, social, ideological, and religious patterns of
behaviour, and the techniques for mastering the environment (pg. 146). The intelligence of Raven is
never ending, he can do anything he set his mind too, Raven is especially good at healing.
Raven is also called upon in Native ritual for healing purposes. Specifically, the Raven is thought to
provide long distance healing. Raven is so intelligent he could heal anyone. Gale Eaton mentioned in
Raven the Trickster that the Inuit, along with other cultures, believe that being able to heal is an
important power; if you could heal the sick more people can survive, making it so there were

What Is The Mood Of Can You Feel The Love Tonight By...
1. The poem that conveys a similar message as the song Can You Feel the Love Tonight is William
Shakespeare s Sonnet 29. In Sonnet 29, William Shakespeare describes a man who is depressed but is
saved from total darkness by his true love. In the song Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Simba sings
about how Nala had brought vitality back into his troubled life. William Shakespeare s Sonnet 29 is a
realistic sonnet that uses a variety of word choices to invoke emotion. Shakespeare uses words such as
disgrace, beweep, desiring, scorn, and outcast to draw out feelings. In Can You Feel the Love Tonight,
certain words such as harmony, peace, love, and atmosphere tie in the feeling of the song. One literary
device that Can You Feel the Love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the phrase break of day arising is mentioned. Similarly, in Can You Feel the Love Tonight, the words

sonnet mention times of day. Another quote that is very important from Shakespeare s Sonnet 29 is my
outcast state. In Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Simba tells how he cannot revel the truth about his
past. In both the song and the sonnet, the common theme of troubled pasts is

The M M Theorem
Introduction
This paper explores the M M theorem. It relates to the financial structure we learned from BUS 132
class.
Research results
I. Assumption
The basic M M proposition is based on some key assumptions. Apart from some fundamental
assumptions that are always shown in the financial articles such as competitive markets, no taxes,
there are also some other important assumptions: No bankrupt costs:
There are two kinds of bankruptcy costs: direct costs and indirect costs. Direct bankruptcy costs can
significantly affect a company s cost of capital. When a company has debt, the company needs to
service that debt through making required interest payments. Interest payments alter a company s
earnings as well as cash flow. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Handling of Excess Cash
One of the theorem s underlying assumptions is that when a corporation gets hold of extra money, it
will not squander the cash. No matter how much free cash it has sitting in the bank, the firm will
invest if there are worthy investment opportunities; but if there aren t, it will return the money to
shareholders in the form of dividends. This assumption doesn t always pan out in the real world of
corporate finance as well. Experience shows that firms do tend to squander excess cash, often taking
on extremely risky projects with the free cash at hand. Symmetry of market information
A condition in which all relevant information is known to all parties involved. For example, in the
stock market, stock information has a full public disclosure, and all investors are in the same position
to share information. And it effectively reduces some internal unnecessary cost in the transactions and
avoids some situations caused by the information asymmetry such as adverse selection and moral
hazard.
II. Definition
M M theorem implies that conditions under which diverse corporate financing decisions are irrelevant.
The earning power and the risk of underlying assets determine the market value of a firm, while the
financing methods do not affect the value.
In the absence of tax, the M M proposition I focus on the irrelevancy between the value and capital
structure. The value of the levered firm must equal to the value of

Peter Hennessy s The Office Of The Prime Minister
The Office of the Prime Minister is what its holder chooses and is able to make of it. (3) The quote by
H. Asquith, the British Prime during WWI, is the most accurate way to describe the content of Peter
Hennessy s book, The Prime Minister. The author argues that once at Number 10. Downing Street, the
office holder can lead the government the way he or she wishes. Hennessy adds that there has been a
large expansion in the power of the Prime Minister since 1945. The book primarily sheds light on 11
post World War II leaders and their own undertaking of the office.
The Prime Minister is probably the one book that anyone needs to read in order to achieve a complete
understanding of the British premiership. It takes into account all the possibilities and limitations
present in the job of being the Prime Minister. The book begins with emphasizing that ... Show more

He believes that she is given less credit than she deserves. However, he agrees that Mrs. Thatcher
wanted to lead the Cabinet as well as the government entirely by herself. Unlike Attlee who rarely
ever opposed other views or opinions, Mrs. Thatcher rarely ever asked for others opinion stating, As
Prime Minister I could not waste time having internal arguments. (401)
Although The Prime Minister is quite lengthy, the author manages to keep it focused and interesting.
He is able to show how different leaders can shape the office the way they wish. Although he
disagrees with people who believe that Britain has transformed into a Presidential system, Peter
Hennessey does think the office has changed enough for the PM to decide how he wants to lead. The
book has been a great aid in helping further understand class content and the politics of Western

Effects Of Technology On Young Learner s Enthusiasm For...
Hollis s 1995 study focused on the effects of technology on young learner s enthusiasm for learning
science inside and outside of the classroom. This area of focus studied how implementing technology
to teach science concepts impacted student s motivation for learning science in the classroom. The
teacher researcher s study involves both teaching and learning as it focused on properly training
teachers how to use and implement technological tools and software. Once teachers knew how to
efficiently implement technology into their classrooms, they were able to incorporate such technology
as tools to enhance student s learning. Hollis (1995) notes today s middle school students have grown
up in a technological world with television, electronic toys, video games, VCRs, cellular phones and
more and they are accustomed to receiving and processing information through multi sensory sources
(p. 1).
Research Questions The researcher states an answerable question in this action research project that
ask:
How does the integration of technology into my middle school science curriculum impact my students
enthusiasm for learning science?
The above question is answerable according to the researcher s expertise, time and resources. Hollis
(1995) states through this study I hoped to find that multimedia technology would be conduit that my
students needed to acquire new knowledge, develop new concepts, and express strong understanding

Theme Of Glory In The Iliad
Andy Dai
Term Paper 1
The idea of kleos otherwise known as glory in Greek, and honor is one of the most essential motifs of
the Iliad. For many warriors depicted in the Iliad, honor was vital and personal. For many, Glory
earned in battle was more important than one s life. Glory or the lack of, was remembered long after
one s life. Possibly the greatest fundamental part of honor to the fighters of the Iliad was courage in
battle as shown throughout multiple books. Throughout the course of this book we can see how
different characters display these traits and how they influence the course of the war. Even though the
Achaeans and Trojans are enemies they display a similar view, the acquisition of glory is more
significant than life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By taking the wife of Menelaus, he had dishonored him. While his brother is described as a great
warrior, Paris is a described by Homer as a pretty boy that has success with women due to his charm.
However, none of those traits seem to matter because he shies away from battle and he is mainly the
object of disdain. In chapter 3, Paris didn t have the courage to fight Menelaos for his own wrong
doing. In chapter 6, as Hector arrives back to the city to make a sacrifice he sees Paris whom is not
involved in the fighting. Another character that is depicted as dishonorable is seen in Book 2.
Agamemnon decides to test the desire and courage of his soldiers by suggesting a retreat. The results
were definitely counter to what Agamemnon intended, his troops quickly prepared their ships to
depart. Odysseus quickly rallies the troops and reminds them of Calchas prophecy. However, one
soldier Thersites whom is described as deformed and ugly (perhaps a metaphor because of his
dishonor) argues that the war isn t worth fighting. Odysseus quickly scolds Thersites and infers that
Thersites has no honor because he does not wish to continue to fight. Odysseus then goes on to hit
Thersites with a scepter and the Achaeans agree to fight again.
The importance of honor is shown when characters in the Illiad have chosen the glory of fighting, over
their own lives. Two main examples are shown in Hektor and Achilles. Hektor is displayed

1. Draw a diagram of the process using the format in Exhibit 7.3.
2. Consider a base case where a customer arrives every 40 seconds and the Customer Service
Champion can handle 120 customers per hour. There are two Food Champions, each capable of
handling 100 orders per hour. How long should it take to be served by the restaurant (from the time a
customer enters the kiosk queue until her food is delivered)? Use queuing models to estimate this.
λ=Arrival Rate μ=Service Rate
Based on M/M/1 Model

characterized as Poisson arrival pattern the above calculation would have been wrong and other more
complex model would need to be used in order to determine correct values. | There is unlimited space

Compare And Contrast Mary Magdalene And St. Peter Of Verona
Mary Magdalene and St. Peter of Verona (or St. Peter Martyr) are two wooden, Italian works of art on
display in the Greendale Special Collections and Archives in the Olin Library. The depiction of Mary
Magdalene predates St. Peter of Verona by about a century, made in the early 16th century, with St.
Peter of Verona coming into fruition in the 17th century. The two works are similar in subject, that of
the Catholic saint. Despite their similar functions and purposes, they are products of their own time,
revealed by the distinction of style between the two. The older figure, Mary Magdalene, is in the form
of a wooden relief. The relief is a low relief, with almost a two dimensional feel. The size of the relief
is not very big, indicating that this work may be one of others in a series. Considering all of this, the
work most likely functioned as an altarpiece or as a door panel for a chapel. Although not too many
traces of paint are left, the figure is in relatively good condition. In this work, Mary Magdalene is
depicted kneeling in prayer in the bottom center of the work. She is looking up to the left corner, in
which a cross stands. Mary is shown to be outside, indicated by the hill the cross sits on top. To the
right of Mary is an arch framing over her head. To the bottom left of her is a container which most
likely held either wine or spices. The relief as a whole utilizes much of the wood, with there being
hardly any negative space. Although the work s biggest figure

Cronon s View On Wilderness
However Cronon does acknowledge the positivity associated with the idea of wilderness when he
concludes his argument with an intriguing question: How can we take the positive values we associate
with wilderness and bring them closer to home? I believe that part of the answer to this question
comes from the rhetoric of these vary same 19th Century romantic thinkers who were able to develop
true connections to the landscape around them.
Developing a connection to the landscape was a primary focus of one of the 19th century writers that
Cronon critiques, Henry David Thoreau. In order to understand how Thoreau developed his ideas on
wilderness, it is important to understand the political and economic environment in which he lived in.
At the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He concludes one of his final chapters of Walden by stating that, we need the tonic of wildness.
Thoreau believes that there is a quality associated with wild landscapes that humans need in order to
function as a species. Instead of writing about the overpowering experience that we can find in
untouched landscapes, Thoreau rather focuses on bringing those experiences back to our home. In a
journal, Thoreau writes that, It is in vain to dream of a wildness distant from ourselves. There is none
such. It is in the bog in our brain and bowels, the primitive vigor of Nature in us, that inspires that
dream. I shall never find in the wilds of Labrador any greater wildness than in some recess in
Concord, i.e., than I import into it. (J, IX, 43). Thoreau learned about the overpowering and personal
sensory experiences that you can feel in the wilderness and learned that you can bring that quality of
nature back to home and still have the same experience. And I believe that this is the essential point
that Thoreau brings to American culture with Walden. Thoreau wants Americans to bring this tonic of
wildness to everyday life because he believes it is missing and can make their lives deliberate and
fulfilled. Thoreau s overwhelming appreciating of the tonic of wildness is furthermore important
based on the fact that the last passage he writes in Walden

The Social Significance And The Effect Of Malls

filled with large amounts of people shopping. Food courts with a huge line up and a mini kiosks

their point of view. I hope by the end of this report to show the social significance and the effect the
malls has on us. Describing the Object: Malls can vary from small regional malls (they contain a
cluster of retail stores) and to megamalls offering a combination of shopping and carnival like
diversions to the festival malls specializing in recreational shopping to the intensely fortified ghetto
malls observed by Mike Davis and even too neighborhood malls (the purpose to is to serve consumers

they are distinct and can offer something new to consumers yet they all tend to share common features
in terms of aesthetics, architecture, and design. BLANK 2 states the reason for this is that a high
percentage of malls are planned and built by a few transnational architectural and design firms (source

Presentation Of Grand Prix Show Jumping
Grand Prix show jumping is a physically and emotionally challenging sport for both the horse and
rider. The purpose of this paper is to inform the reader about Grand Prix Show Jumping. The
following information will answer questions regarding six topics. This research paper will provide a
brief history of Show Jumping, and explain why it started. Second, it will describe what Show
Jumping requires and what Show Jumping is. Third, it will tell where Show Jumping occurs. Fourth, it
will state how Show Jumping has changed. Fifth, it will share who the athletes are today and who the
top horses and riders are at the Grand Prix level. Sixth, it will inform the reader of when Grand Prix
events take place. The Grand Prix is the highest and most difficult level of Show Jumping. This sport
requires that the horses be in excellent physical condition. Jumping at high levels puts a lot of strain
on their joints and tendons, so it is important not to overwork them. With so much strain on their
bodies, one false step could result in injury. Show Jumping originated in Europe. During the Middle
Ages, the Greeks included jumping horses in their military exercise. A three day event occurred that
reflected the range of challenges horses faced in the army. In England, Show Jumping was derived
from fox hunting. Throughout the eighteenth century, Great Britain passed Enclosure Acts, meaning
that wealthy owners of land could build stone walls along their property lines. Fox hunters adapted

The film version of Beowulf is more enjoyable than the translated portion of the epic poem, due to the

Black stated an unpopular opinion, saying that it was a myth to say that any person has a constitutional
right to say what he pleases, where he pleases, and when he pleases, while other dissenter Justice John
M. Harlan found nothing wrong with teachers regulating armbands and their suspension was for a
legitimate reason. The act of the School District in suspending the students clearly showed a serious
impediment of the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment and the Due Process Clause of the
Fourteenth. All students who petitioned were quiet and passive, neither disrupting nor interfering with
school activities and the rights of other students which makes their symbolic speech protected under
the Constitution. What the students were protesting against accounts for their expression of opinion,
which is again protected under the First and Fourteenth Amendments. Since this case, the Supreme
Court has issued decisions that have given school administrators more power to regulate student
conduct. Nevertheless, the Tinker decision changed the way students seek to exercise their First
Amendment rights

Budget Informative Research Paper
Illinois Budget Informative According to Illinois Budget Clock, the last time Illinois had a budget was
on June 30th, 2016, when a stop gate budget was passed to keep the government, schools, and
nonprofit agencies operating. The last time a full year budget was passed was on May 27, 2014.
According to Illinois Comptroller s office, 2001 was the last time Illinois had an actual balanced
budget. This was the beginning of the Illinois Budget Crisis. Although, now the issue is not just
balancing the budget but, passing a financial plan. While there may not necessarily be pros or cons of
Illinois not having a state budget, it has been significantly debated how Illinois should obtain a
balanced budget. Bruce Rauner is one voices of the budget ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to article from Chicago Tribune, The state has a record stack of unpaid bills that s expected
to hit $15 billion by July if nothing is done, and it must fork over interest when it s late paying them.
These unpaid bills funds nonprofits agencies, human resources, and even schools. For example, with
the recent ending of the stop gate budget Chicago State, Western and Eastern appealed to Illinois
higher education officials for additional emergency funding, with the schools splitting $17 million of a
$20 million pot of funds set aside to help the most financially vulnerable universities. The remaining
$3 million will be funneled to community colleges. Many schools are feeling the financial affliction of
not having and state budget and will continue to feel the burden till a budget is passed. Not to mention
this financial burden is even worse on public schools which are going to continue to lack funding till
the budget is passed. Someone else that is feeling the lack of budget is nonprofit and human resources,
as [t]he stopgap authorized roughly $670 million for health and human services, about 65 percent of
what providers normally would get. As a result, many organization are having to cut services due to
the lack of funding. This is hurting the people that are most in need, like the lower class, and

Volksgemeinshcaft
How Successful were the Nazis in Creating a Volksgemeinschaft?
To simply answer the question, the answer would be that they had very little success in creating their
National Community . Between the years 1933 39 the Nazi party set upon an idea of creating their
own race of racially pure Germans, an Aryan race. And to do this they had to remove all the people
they had thought of as unfit and against what they saw as the Aryan race, and create a
Volksgemeinschaft. Volksgemeinschaft was a people s community, where everybody was equal in
race. The Nazi party was prepared to go to extreme lengths to ensure that they got this racially pure
race, killing unfit Germans was a solution.

Hitler wanted his race to have no weaknesses. If women didn t work, there would be increased family
allowance and the honour Cross of German Mother Hood. Woman would be offered extra payments
from the Nazi s if they were to stay at home and create these Aryan race children, mothers were
rewarded with money for the work they did. This was all introduced in order to entice Women from
the work place back to there home s and to have babies. Increasing the population was a well thought
out plan for the future made by Hitler; he did have long term plans for himself and Volksgemeinschaft.
Then the Nazis had to prepare for the future and the future of Germany was the youth. Many
organisations like the Hitler youth and the league for German Maidens were set up to teach the youth
to follow the Nazis. In the Hitler youth they were taught like the military, neat, tidy and organised. The
youth saw Hitler as a father figure in the fatherland and obeyed him. Then Hitler used indoctrination
in the education system to recruit them into the army as loyal Nazis. There were subtle Nazi views
added into all school work to brainwash the youth, as they were naive and didn t see the wrong side of
the Nazis true nature. The future of the people s community was successfully secure and the Nazis
would keep control for years to come.
During Hitler s efforts to create the Volksgemeinschaft he encountered several problems, regarding the

Keeping the kitchen clean is a simple, yet effective way, of preventing several cases of food borne
illness. Here are some easy steps you can take to make your kitchen a safe and happy area of your
home. Keep the clutter down. It is easier to clean a kitchen when you do not have to fight your way
through it. Toss out or give away any gadgets and appliances you no longer use. Store small
appliances in cupboards and cabinets. Display only a few decorations on your countertops. Keeping
the extra surfaces to a minimum will provide less breeding ground for bacteria. Attend to large
appliances regularly. Clean out your refrigerator on a regular basis. The easiest time to do this is
before you do your weekly grocery shopping. Discard any food that shows signs of spoilage. Wipe
down the shelves and door using warm, soapy water or cleaning spray. It is safe to use dish detergent
in your water when cleaning your refrigerator, but avoid using a variety that has a strong fragrance.
Clean up any spills on your stovetop each time you cook. Use warm, soapy water or a kitchen cleaner.

Earthquake Of The Sichuan Earthquake
The Sichuan Earthquake also known as Wenchuan Earthquake occurred on May 12th, 2008. The
horrific earthquake was located in the mountainous dominant region of Sichuan, south western China.
The earthquake was measured to have a magnitude of 8.0 by the Chinese. The quake affected four
fifths of the buildings located in the area. Towns, villages and schools had collapsed and had been
destroyed. Close to 90,000 people were tallied as missing or dead. The Chinese Government report
stated that more than 5,300 Children (mainly students at school) were killed by the quake. As well as
375,000 people injured from collapsing buildings and tumbling debris. The Chinese government sent
relief workers and 130,000 soldiers to the devastated location. Yet remote villages were hard to reach
due to the insignificant amount of usable rescue equipment needed to clear the damage (Pletcher,
n.d.). 4,800,000 people (BBC, 2013) were left homeless due to the earthquake.
The prediction of earthquakes cannot be tallied as a certain thing at the present time, however
educated estimations can be used to develop and warn people of possible earthquakes. Predictions can
and are based on a few factors. One includes new cracks in rocks, this occurs due to a great build up of
energy. That could possibly lead to a site where a discharge of energy could take in the nearby future.

Gandhi s Use Of Nonviolent Civil Disobedience
Until 1947, the British crown ruled over the entire country of India. Indians were treated like second
class citizens below British citizens for years, even though it was their home country. Mohandas K.
Gandhi was an Indian rights activist during this time who eventually became known as the father of
Indian nationalism for his achievements in gaining Indian autonomy while averting civil war.
Although he was an activist for Indian independence, he was also an advocate for peace. Throughout
the duration of the movement, he always encouraged the protestors to never use violence or fight back
against British officers, even when they attacked them. His tactics were considered uses of nonviolent
civil disobedience, or satyagraha . Nonviolent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He started this movement after the English cloth industry put the once thriving Indian cloth industry
out of business. It was also a statement of self sufficiency, making the spinning wheel a symbol of
Indian independence. The spinning wheel is currently featured in the center of the national flag, as
well. Another example is Gandhi s Salt March. In 1930, he walked across the country to the ocean,
with his followers in tow, in order to make salt from the sea. This was a large blow to the British
government because Gandhi made the mach symbolic. British industry had a monopoly of the salt
industry and made it illegal for anyone to make salt without a special permission, so when Gandhi
made salt, he broke the law and defied the British dominance over economy and government.
Throughout all of Gandhi s protest movements, he never encouraged or resorted to violence in order to
meet an end. His philosophy of satyagraha, or nonviolent civil disobedience, sent a message. He
believed that the people who make up a country have the power, so they can bring change without

Cubism And Expressionism In The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari

Cesare predicts the death of Francis s friend, Alan, and the following night Alan passes away. Later
that day when Francis finds out about the death of his friend, he spies on Dr. Caligari and Cesare

Both movies have artistic elements taken from the Expressionism movement. Its grotesque cinematic
aspects and exaggerated makeup, costume, characters, and background settings display a similar
impression of the film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Although this movie is not my cup of tea, I did
appreciate the director s effort in perfectly illustrating Expressionism in a motion picture. The film s
goal was to express the modern art of Expressionism according to the inner emotion of a character
through a narrative and this film has addressed it well. I personally was stultified halfway through the
film because I don t like watching horror or gothic genre but audiences with a taste of suspense and
thrill would lean towards it more. However, it was a great way to experience and understand the

Conductivism Vs Inductivism
There are multiple methods of scientific reasoning within philosophy. Each has its own benefits and
drawbacks, but they all try to give us a more precise method to conduct scientific research.
Deductivism is thought to take a broad generalization and make it more specific. This method is made
up of premises which dictate whether or not the conclusion is true. Because the truth in the conclusion
is based on the truth in premises, deductivism gives us certainty in its validity. When looking at
something like eugenics, a scientist, such as Francis Galton, may make a statement like, all Jewish
people are dumb, Barbra Streisand is Jewish, and therefore Barbra Streisand is dumb . The first two
clauses are the premises of the statement and are simplifications of sentiments used heavily during the
Holocaust as a means to justify the killing of mainly Jewish people. While the second premise, Barbra
Streisand is Jewish, is a true statement, the first premise, all Jewish people are dumb is not. That is a
broad generalization to make about a group of people and clearly has tragic or unsatisfactory
consequences when applied. The inductivist approach uses multiple observations or experiences to
make generalities about the world or how an event will go based off of passed identical observation.
Operant conditioning can be argued to use the inductive approach. When a child does something good,
they are then rewarded. When they do that same good thing again, they are once again rewarded,
showing them they can get something positive out of the action of duty they performed. This will
cause them to believe that if they always do this duty or task, then they will be rewarded every time.
In inductivism, it only takes one time for the generalized outcome to not come to fruition for the
whole theory to then be false. This method allows for a lot of observation which helps bring support to
the theory, but due to the endless amount of observation, there is never certainty the generalization is
false or true , just that it is more likely to occur. Falsification is the idea that a hypothesis must be able
to be falsified. This does not mean that it will or that there are already doubts about the hypothesis, but
that the

Examples Of Sexism In Metropolis
Science fiction s presence in film is nearly as old as film itself. With humble beginnings, film pioneers
such as the French George Méliès set the genre in motion. At first, simple pastiches to Jules Verne
pervaded, whether it be adventurous astronauts on a trip to the moon or the maiden voyage of a (then)
futuristic airship. Then, come the German avant garde, the expressionist masterpiece Metropolis
proved that the science fiction film could go beyond the trivial and occupy a place of legitimate
artistic worth. Metropolis also marks the first feature length film to feature a robot though the word is
never used. Instead, Maria is a Maschinenmensch, a machine human, a being capable of labor and
beauty, even of sexual enticement, but devoid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She has breasts, sex appeal, she dances, she winks her smoky eye. Other robots in film, like the
Terminator, portray what are perceived as definitively masculine characteristics. Roy Schwartzman, in
writing for Studies in Popular Culture, calls this trend of sexualizing what should be sex less robots
engenderneering. (75) In reality, robots, defined as machines that operate autonomously, have no need
for sexual characteristics. Real robots have no gender characteristics because, as of now, unlike in
film, the robot s existence is limited to strictly industrial and scientific applications. Should robots hit
the mainstream and enter our homes as maids or nannies (à la Rosie in The Jetsons), their designs may
incorporate more markedly human qualities. In order for consumers to feel more comfortable around
their new robot friends, they may give them names and choose to gender the personality that is
programmed into them. (Schwartzman 83) Maria in Metropolis has no need for gender; she is only a
simulated she and, within her mechanical core, lacks desire, spirit, empathy, love, malice, etc. Maria
tells us that in the 1920s, robots were still being seen as mechanical humans that require a personality
and gender identity, despite robots in reality having nothing at all with their human creators. But the
more autonomous machines become, the greater the need for talking about them in anthropological
terms. Jump forward 40 years in film history to 1968 to look at another film featuring artificial
intelligence. 2001: A Space Odyssey, after all, is about evolution. Filmmaker Stanley Kubrick and
famous science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke wrote the screenplay to 2001 jointly (as well as the
novelization) with human evolution in mind and, naturally, artifical intelligence comes into

Dog ticks and fleas
Having dogs and cats at home brings about those unwanted visitors that not only affect our pets, but
also us. In addition, they can cause diseases in animals and also in people. Therefore, you must
prevent them from proliferating in your home. Know the best remedies to eliminate fleas and ticks
naturally.
Where can my dog catch ticks and fleas?
The tick is an external parasite (ectoparasite) of the family of arachnid mites. Its size and colour vary
according to its species. Ticks are, along with fleas, the most common external parasites in the can.
Small in size they measure a few millimeters and with eight legs, they feed on the blood of the
affected animal. When they reach their body, these parasites of the spider family cling to the dog s
skin thanks to a powerful jaw. Ticks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best weapon against them is prevention, among others, through proper brushing and hygiene.
When the heat arrives, one must be more alert than ever to locate the possible presence of these
parasites and rid the dog of its attack.
It is possible to buy specific products, for sale in different formats: pipettes, necklaces or sprays. It is a
matter of choosing the right product to combat fleas and ticks in dogs and that has a quality tested and
endorsed by the laboratories that manufacture this type of anti parasite.
Check the dog s coat regularly, especially in spring and summer, when ticks and fleas are more active.
Maintain proper hygiene of the dog, with regular brushing of the coat and with baths. The latter do not
have to be very frequent, but they can be carried out with specific antiparasitic products.
Never use antiparasitic products that are not suitable for dogs.

The Great Ideas Of Thomas Hobbes Leviathan, And Adam...
hile there are many big ideas in Thomas Hobbes Leviathan, and Adam Smith s The Wealth of Nations,
the most important ideas deal with human nature and social order. In this paper, I will argue Hobbes
lack of optimism, and Smith s lack of pessimism in their theories of human nature, and will also
discuss how our idea of social order changes once these aspects are taken into consideration. Hobbes
theory of human nature begins with him stating that all men are created equal. With all men being
created equal, this means that everyone is equally capable of killing each other, because while, there
may be found one man sometimes manifestly stronger in body, the weaker may be compensated for by
his quicker mind. This equality of ability produces equality of hope for the attaining of our goals, and
that when two or more men desire the same thing which they cannot both enjoy, they become enemies
and attempt to destroy each other. Hobbes called this time when men oppose each other war, and said
that there were three basic causes for war: competition, distrust, and glory. Hobbes also maintains the
belief that in this state of nature, humans have a natural tendency to obtain as much power as they can,
and that the only way they will ever be satisfied with their power is by acquiring more power, going so
far as to harm or kill others in order attain what they desire. Thus, the state of nature is a war of every
man against every man, where humans live in perpetual fear

McTigue was winning the fight until they had to forfeit because he chipped one of his teeth and it cut
his lip. Then in the 1940 s and 1950s dental offices saw a huge spike in dental and teeth injuries in
football players, and because of the rise in injuries the ADAA (American Dental Association of
America)made it recommended by 1960 that all in contact sports used mouth guards. In the late 1960
s and early 1970 s a children s dentist was so appalled by all the injuries he was seeing and having to
treat that he made the first professional mouth guard that is used in all contact sports today. By 1973
the NCAA requires mouth guards for all sports that consisted of contacting with other people. These
sports include: football, hockey, lacrosse, rugby as well as basketball. Since the mouth guard there has
been a decrease in injuries to the mouth as well as dental injuries in contact sports. Mouth guards can
come in all different shapes, sizes, types, and even ones that are used for different purposes. In
general, mouth guards usually just cover your upper teeth. With the advances they now have full

Nucor Corporation was the most profitable steel producer in North America in both 2005 and 2006. It

technologically innovative steel producers in the world. Nucor is known for its aggressive pursuit of

Product differentiation is also a major barrier to entry. Steel is not sold on its overall difference, but
more commonly on price. Many manufacturers utilize the same technologies and processes. Price
wars are seen to minimize fixed costs, which mean there are few switching costs from one
manufacturer to another. There is very little brand loyalty in this industry, especially when it does not
appeal to consumer loyalty or brand image. Entrants must find ways to compete based on lower costs.
Access to raw materials can also be a barrier. A lot of the time materials must be bought in large
quantities. There is no cost advantage associated with small material purchases, and that can directly
increase the overall manufacturing costs. This can make competition challenging in a market where
margins are already very small. Government policy is not a huge threat of entry on the domestic level,
but at the international level the barriers become much larger. Well established relationships by larger
steel manufacturers with government allows for easy establishment of contracts in a foreign territory.
Since most steel manufacturers must be globally competitive to maintain profits government policy is
a threatening entry barrier.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers: Strong The supply of raw materials can have a positive or negative
effect on a cost strategy. Most of the steel used in domestic manufacturing in the United States is
imported. On

German Competition Essay
Throughout recent history, the United States (U.S.) is one of the most powerful nations on earth. It is
constantly trying to maintain that number one position. Therefore, to enable the United States to
maintain its status it must always know its competitors. The Federal Republic of Germany is one of
those competitors. The best way the U.S. can know its competition is by analyzing the German
politics, economy, and military. Germany is a country in north central Europe. It is one of Europe s
largest countries, with various terrains. Germany has a large urbanized area along the west, icy

in the east. The capital of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the position of the president is mainly ceremonial, the president appoints and dismisses federal
judges, federal civil servants, and commissioned and non commissioned officers of the German
Armed Forces. Nevertheless, the Chancellor acts as the head of the German government. The
Chancellor proposes the appointments and removal of federal ministers, and sets policy for the federal
government. Orders of the president are useless without the Chancellor s signature, and the Chancellor
s role is closer to the role of the U.S. President (Constitutional History of Germany, n.d.). The
legislative branch has two houses, similar to the United States Congress. Members of the Bundestag ,
or lower house, are elected by the country as a whole and the member serves a four year term. The
Bundesrat , or upper house, is comprised of members of the 16 state governments and these members
represent the interests of those states. New federal laws are adopted by the Bundestag and are then
submitted to the Bundesrat for approval. Laws created by the Bundestag may require Bundesrat
consent, if the new laws do not require the consent of the Bundesrat; the house may still veto the law.
The Bundestag in these cases can overturn the Bundesrat s veto, moreover reducing the power of one
entity. The judicial branch consists of the Federal Constitutional Court and other Federal Courts. The

  • 2. International Accounting Standards Board And Financial... It all began on October 2002 where the International Accounting Standards Board and Financial Accounting Board signed a memorandum of understanding that has come to be known as the Norwalk Agreement . Here the two boards met and decided to make their standards fully compatible and put it into practice and once they conquer their goal, they have to make sure it is maintained. But before I divulge into details regarding the future and presently achieved goals of the convergence, I would like to throw some light on the history and background of the two boards involved. International Accounting Standards were formed between 1973 and 2001 by the board of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC). On 1 April 2001, the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the year 2001 almost 120 countries have adopted the use of IFRS. On the other hand The United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles have been set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) which is subject to Securities and Exchange Commission regulations. The AICPA first created the Committee on Accounting Procedure in 1939, and replaced that with the Accounting Principles Board in 1959. In 1973, the Accounting Principles Board was replaced by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) under the supervision of the Financial Accounting Foundation with the Financial Accounting Standards advisory council serving to advise and provide input on the accounting standards. Organizations such as United States Security and Exchange Commission, Financial Accounting Standard Board, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board influence the GAAP in the United States. Coming back to convergence, for the past several years the IASB and IASC before 2001, have been working to develop high quality, easy to understand, and practicable International Financial Reporting Standards to serve investors creditors, around the world in globalized capital markets to make investment decisions. • 3. Analyzing Three Groups Of Advertisements Based On The... After reading Which Ad Pulled Best , I am going to analysis three groups of advertisements based on the criterions provide by the reading. The first one is Example 19, an advertisement about Timex Watch. I think the second ad did a better job than the first one. To start with, when I saw the second ad, I can easily recognize the benefit the product offers compare to the first one. In the second ad, it named out the benefit in the upper page, which is The Timer Turn Pill Alarm Watch, More convenient than any excuse. When I read this heading, I can know what unique feature that Timex offers that different from other watch makers. In the middle of the page it uses three scenarios to show the alarm feature of this watch. All three scenarios are very common in our everyday life. So when people read this ad, they may think about themselves in that situation. And when I saw this part of the ad, I know what message the advertiser what to convey when you buy this watch, you can avoid all those situations and this watch will keep you be on time for everything. When looking carefully, you will see there are some figures teach you how to set the alarm. In this way, people can easily understand how to use it. At the bottom of the page, there are a few sentences to further explain how to use the alarm system and also introduce two more features, which are sound and light flash. • 4. A Look into Psalms 119 Everyday millions of Americans read stories to their children before they go to bed. I often read Dr. Seuss books to my son Seth, who is four years old. He loves the rhythm and rimes that are those books. One of his favorites is Green Eggs and Ham. Seth has begun to answer the questions of Sam, answering him for the other character saying he does not like green eggs and ham . It caught my attention that some of the Psalms also have a repetitive nature. Psalm 119 is the longest of all the Psalms and is very repetitive. Many people only read one section of the Psalm because of the repetitive nature and do not look at the chapter as a whole. There is a lack of churches teaching on the Psalms and some a not reading them at all. Psalm 119 is more than a long repetitive Psalm, reading it as one passage there is evidence of determination by the author to show why following the Lord s teaching is vital to life as a Christian. Comparison of three sections of Psalm 119 will show how the Psalm repeats the same theme throughout the work. This shows that the repetition is helpful in remembering the reason for follow God s laws. The first section is 119:1 8 and will show the message the psalmist trying to convey. The second section is 119:33 40 and this will show that God is our teacher and one way to learn is to follow God s instructions. The third section is 119:65 72 this conveys that life is found in the openness of God s instruction. All these sections together ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Education And The National Curriculum Framework While teaching in state maintained schools, it is necessary that the National Curriculum Framework is followed and children are taught the relevant skills and knowledge stated within each Programme of Study. Therefore, there must be structure to the lessons where these skills and knowledge are to be developed throughout the academic year. Previous teaching strategies required teachers to follow a rigid plan where each individual lesson was to last one hour and be taught at a certain time on a certain day (i.e. The Literacy Hour). These strategies are no longer necessary for teachers to follow anymore; it is now possible for teachers to integrate lessons using a central theme, enabling them to teach pupils in a more imaginative and original way, which will stimulate children s interest and engagement whilst still developing the necessary skills and knowledge specified in the National Curriculum (Sewell, 2015). This integrated curriculum allows children to pursue learning in a holistic way without the restrictions often imposed by subject boundaries (Kelly, 2001). Subject integration provides an opportunity for students to make natural and meaningful connections between and among multiple content areas (Bogan, King McKenzie, Bantwini, 2012:1055). The human brain does not separate knowledge into discrete partitions but creates a complex web of information that recognises patterns... , thus thematic teaching works with the brain rather than counter to its natural function ... • 8. The M M Theorem Introduction This paper explores the M M theorem. It relates to the financial structure we learned from BUS 132 class. Research results I. Assumption The basic M M proposition is based on some key assumptions. Apart from some fundamental assumptions that are always shown in the financial articles such as competitive markets, no taxes, there are also some other important assumptions: No bankrupt costs: There are two kinds of bankruptcy costs: direct costs and indirect costs. Direct bankruptcy costs can significantly affect a company s cost of capital. When a company has debt, the company needs to service that debt through making required interest payments. Interest payments alter a company s earnings as well as cash flow. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Handling of Excess Cash One of the theorem s underlying assumptions is that when a corporation gets hold of extra money, it will not squander the cash. No matter how much free cash it has sitting in the bank, the firm will invest if there are worthy investment opportunities; but if there aren t, it will return the money to shareholders in the form of dividends. This assumption doesn t always pan out in the real world of corporate finance as well. Experience shows that firms do tend to squander excess cash, often taking on extremely risky projects with the free cash at hand. Symmetry of market information A condition in which all relevant information is known to all parties involved. For example, in the stock market, stock information has a full public disclosure, and all investors are in the same position to share information. And it effectively reduces some internal unnecessary cost in the transactions and avoids some situations caused by the information asymmetry such as adverse selection and moral hazard. II. Definition M M theorem implies that conditions under which diverse corporate financing decisions are irrelevant. The earning power and the risk of underlying assets determine the market value of a firm, while the financing methods do not affect the value. In the absence of tax, the M M proposition I focus on the irrelevancy between the value and capital structure. The value of the levered firm must equal to the value of ... Asquith, the British Prime during WWI, is the most accurate way to describe the content of Peter Hennessy s book, The Prime Minister. The author argues that once at Number 10. Downing Street, the office holder can lead the government the way he or she wishes. Hennessy adds that there has been a large expansion in the power of the Prime Minister since 1945. The book primarily sheds light on 11 post World War II leaders and their own undertaking of the office. For many warriors depicted in the Iliad, honor was vital and personal. For many, Glory earned in battle was more important than one s life. Glory or the lack of, was remembered long after one s life. Possibly the greatest fundamental part of honor to the fighters of the Iliad was courage in battle as shown throughout multiple books. By taking the wife of Menelaus, he had dishonored him. While his brother is described as a great warrior, Paris is a described by Homer as a pretty boy that has success with women due to his charm. However, none of those traits seem to matter because he shies away from battle and he is mainly the object of disdain. In chapter 3, Paris didn t have the courage to fight Menelaos for his own wrong doing. In chapter 6, as Hector arrives back to the city to make a sacrifice he sees Paris whom is not involved in the fighting. Another character that is depicted as dishonorable is seen in Book 2. Agamemnon decides to test the desire and courage of his soldiers by suggesting a retreat. The results were definitely counter to what Agamemnon intended, his troops quickly prepared their ships to depart. Odysseus quickly rallies the troops and reminds them of Calchas prophecy. However, one soldier Thersites whom is described as deformed and ugly (perhaps a metaphor because of his dishonor) argues that the war isn t worth fighting. Odysseus quickly scolds Thersites and infers that Thersites has no honor because he does not wish to continue to fight. Odysseus then goes on to hit Thersites with a scepter and the Achaeans agree to fight again. The importance of honor is shown when characters in the Illiad have chosen the glory of fighting, over their own lives. Two main examples are shown in Hektor and Achilles. Hektor is displayed ... • 14. Compare And Contrast Mary Magdalene And St. Peter Of Verona Mary Magdalene and St. Peter of Verona (or St. Peter Martyr) are two wooden, Italian works of art on display in the Greendale Special Collections and Archives in the Olin Library. The depiction of Mary Magdalene predates St. Peter of Verona by about a century, made in the early 16th century, with St. Peter of Verona coming into fruition in the 17th century. The two works are similar in subject, that of the Catholic saint. Despite their similar functions and purposes, they are products of their own time, revealed by the distinction of style between the two. The older figure, Mary Magdalene, is in the form of a wooden relief. The relief is a low relief, with almost a two dimensional feel. The size of the relief is not very big, indicating that this work may be one of others in a series. Considering all of this, the work most likely functioned as an altarpiece or as a door panel for a chapel. Although not too many traces of paint are left, the figure is in relatively good condition. In this work, Mary Magdalene is depicted kneeling in prayer in the bottom center of the work. She is looking up to the left corner, in which a cross stands. Mary is shown to be outside, indicated by the hill the cross sits on top. To the right of Mary is an arch framing over her head. To the bottom left of her is a container which most likely held either wine or spices. The relief as a whole utilizes much of the wood, with there being hardly any negative space. Cronon s View On Wilderness However Cronon does acknowledge the positivity associated with the idea of wilderness when he concludes his argument with an intriguing question: How can we take the positive values we associate with wilderness and bring them closer to home? I believe that part of the answer to this question comes from the rhetoric of these vary same 19th Century romantic thinkers who were able to develop true connections to the landscape around them. Developing a connection to the landscape was a primary focus of one of the 19th century writers that Cronon critiques, Henry David Thoreau. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He concludes one of his final chapters of Walden by stating that, we need the tonic of wildness. Thoreau believes that there is a quality associated with wild landscapes that humans need in order to function as a species. Instead of writing about the overpowering experience that we can find in untouched landscapes, Thoreau rather focuses on bringing those experiences back to our home. In a journal, Thoreau writes that, It is in vain to dream of a wildness distant from ourselves. There is none such. It is in the bog in our brain and bowels, the primitive vigor of Nature in us, that inspires that dream. I shall never find in the wilds of Labrador any greater wildness than in some recess in Concord, i.e., than I import into it. (J, IX, 43). Thoreau learned about the overpowering and personal sensory experiences that you can feel in the wilderness and learned that you can bring that quality of nature back to home and still have the same experience. And I believe that this is the essential point that Thoreau brings to American culture with Walden. Thoreau wants Americans to bring this tonic of wildness to everyday life because he believes it is missing and can make their lives deliberate and fulfilled. Des Moines Independent Community School District 393 U.S. 503 It can hardly be argued that either students or teachers shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate. The case involved a small group of students who silently dissented against the government s policy during the ongoing Vietnam War by wearing black armbands to school. The act of the School District in suspending the students clearly showed a serious impediment of the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment and the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth. All students who petitioned were quiet and passive, neither disrupting nor interfering with school activities and the rights of other students which makes their symbolic speech protected under the Constitution. What the students were protesting against accounts for their expression of opinion, which is again protected under the First and Fourteenth Amendments. This was a large blow to the British government because Gandhi made the mach symbolic. British industry had a monopoly of the salt industry and made it illegal for anyone to make salt without a special permission, so when Gandhi made salt, he broke the law and defied the British dominance over economy and government. Throughout all of Gandhi s protest movements, he never encouraged or resorted to violence in order to meet an end. His philosophy of satyagraha, or nonviolent civil disobedience, sent a message. He believed that the people who make up a country have the power, so they can bring change without shedding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its grotesque cinematic aspects and exaggerated makeup, costume, characters, and background settings display a similar impression of the film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Although this movie is not my cup of tea, I did appreciate the director s effort in perfectly illustrating Expressionism in a motion picture. The film s goal was to express the modern art of Expressionism according to the inner emotion of a character through a narrative and this film has addressed it well. I personally was stultified halfway through the film because I don t like watching horror or gothic genre but audiences with a taste of suspense and thrill would lean towards it more. However, it was a great way to experience and understand the significance Expressionism in motion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Conductivism Vs Inductivism There are multiple methods of scientific reasoning within philosophy. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks, but they all try to give us a more precise method to conduct scientific research. Deductivism is thought to take a broad generalization and make it more specific. This method is made up of premises which dictate whether or not the conclusion is true. Because the truth in the conclusion is based on the truth in premises, deductivism gives us certainty in its validity. When looking at something like eugenics, a scientist, such as Francis Galton, may make a statement like, all Jewish people are dumb, Barbra Streisand is Jewish, and therefore Barbra Streisand is dumb . The first two clauses are the premises of the statement and are simplifications of sentiments used heavily during the Holocaust as a means to justify the killing of mainly Jewish people. While the second premise, Barbra Streisand is Jewish, is a true statement, the first premise, all Jewish people are dumb is not. That is a broad generalization to make about a group of people and clearly has tragic or unsatisfactory consequences when applied. The inductivist approach uses multiple observations or experiences to make generalities about the world or how an event will go based off of passed identical observation. Operant conditioning can be argued to use the inductive approach. When a child does something good, they are then rewarded. When they do that same good thing again, they are once again rewarded, showing them they can get something positive out of the action of duty they performed. This will cause them to believe that if they always do this duty or task, then they will be rewarded every time. In inductivism, it only takes one time for the generalized outcome to not come to fruition for the whole theory to then be false. This method allows for a lot of observation which helps bring support to the theory, but due to the endless amount of observation, there is never certainty the generalization is false or true , just that it is more likely to occur. Falsification is the idea that a hypothesis must be able to be falsified. This does not mean that it will or that there are already doubts about the hypothesis, but that the ... • 30. Examples Of Sexism In Metropolis Science fiction s presence in film is nearly as old as film itself. With humble beginnings, film pioneers such as the French George Méliès set the genre in motion. At first, simple pastiches to Jules Verne pervaded, whether it be adventurous astronauts on a trip to the moon or the maiden voyage of a (then) futuristic airship. Then, come the German avant garde, the expressionist masterpiece Metropolis proved that the science fiction film could go beyond the trivial and occupy a place of legitimate artistic worth. Metropolis also marks the first feature length film to feature a robot though the word is never used. She has breasts, sex appeal, she dances, she winks her smoky eye. Other robots in film, like the Terminator, portray what are perceived as definitively masculine characteristics. Roy Schwartzman, in writing for Studies in Popular Culture, calls this trend of sexualizing what should be sex less robots engenderneering. (75) In reality, robots, defined as machines that operate autonomously, have no need for sexual characteristics. Real robots have no gender characteristics because, as of now, unlike in film, the robot s existence is limited to strictly industrial and scientific applications. Should robots hit the mainstream and enter our homes as maids or nannies (à la Rosie in The Jetsons), their designs may incorporate more markedly human qualities. In order for consumers to feel more comfortable around their new robot friends, they may give them names and choose to gender the personality that is programmed into them. (Schwartzman 83) Maria in Metropolis has no need for gender; she is only a simulated she and, within her mechanical core, lacks desire, spirit, empathy, love, malice, etc. Maria tells us that in the 1920s, robots were still being seen as mechanical humans that require a personality and gender identity, despite robots in reality having nothing at all with their human creators. But the more autonomous machines become, the greater the need for talking about them in anthropological terms. • 34. The Great Ideas Of Thomas Hobbes Leviathan, And Adam... hile there are many big ideas in Thomas Hobbes Leviathan, and Adam Smith s The Wealth of Nations, the most important ideas deal with human nature and social order. In this paper, I will argue Hobbes lack of optimism, and Smith s lack of pessimism in their theories of human nature, and will also discuss how our idea of social order changes once these aspects are taken into consideration. Hobbes theory of human nature begins with him stating that all men are created equal. With all men being created equal, this means that everyone is equally capable of killing each other, because while, there may be found one man sometimes manifestly stronger in body, the weaker may be compensated for by his quicker mind. This equality of ability produces equality of hope for the attaining of our goals, and that when two or more men desire the same thing which they cannot both enjoy, they become enemies and attempt to destroy each other. Hobbes called this time when men oppose each other war, and said that there were three basic causes for war: competition, distrust, and glory. Hobbes also maintains the belief that in this state of nature, humans have a natural tendency to obtain as much power as they can, and that the only way they will ever be satisfied with their power is by acquiring more power, going so far as to harm or kill others in order attain what they desire. Thus, the state of nature is a war of every man against every man, where humans live in perpetual fear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Product differentiation is also a major barrier to entry. Steel is not sold on its overall difference, but more commonly on price. Many manufacturers utilize the same technologies and processes. Price wars are seen to minimize fixed costs, which mean there are few switching costs from one manufacturer to another. There is very little brand loyalty in this industry, especially when it does not appeal to consumer loyalty or brand image. Entrants must find ways to compete based on lower costs. Access to raw materials can also be a barrier. A lot of the time materials must be bought in large quantities. There is no cost advantage associated with small material purchases, and that can directly increase the overall manufacturing costs. This can make competition challenging in a market where margins are already very small. Government policy is not a huge threat of entry on the domestic level, but at the international level the barriers become much larger. Well established relationships by larger steel manufacturers with government allows for easy establishment of contracts in a foreign territory. Since most steel manufacturers must be globally competitive to maintain profits government policy is a threatening entry barrier. Bargaining Power of Suppliers: Strong The supply of raw materials can have a positive or negative effect on a cost strategy. Most of the steel used in domestic manufacturing in the United States is imported. On
