Psych 3355 Reflective Essay
Hello students of Psych 3355, It would be my greatest pleasure to inform you about this class taught
by Dr. Garefino! There are many aspects of this course I want to talk to you about which will help you
succeed. Firstly, remembering due dates are important! I had to learn the hard way that not doing
required assignments can result in significant point loss. Assignments that are required in this class are
not at all difficult and are very informative. In order to learn about different aspects of various
cultures, it is crucial that you do all of your readings on time and do those assignments. After taking
this class I realized how similar and different culture is from one country to another. Secondly, make
sure you do the practice quizzes

Why The Allies Won The Battle Of Normandy
Hitler and the Allies realized that a battle on the western coast of Europe would decide the outcome of
the war. The Allies utilized this knowledge and began immediately planning Operation Overlord.
Little did they know, the battle of Normandy would be the most significant Allied offensive battle on
the Western front(Walker). In total, the operation would take the combined effort of 176,475 men,
3,000 guns, 1,500 tanks, and 15,000 other assorted vehicles (Walker). People recognize the glorious
outcome of that fateful day, June 6,1944, but they don t know that it took months of strategizing,
training, and weather forecasts until Operation Overlord became a legend amongst international
armies. The planning of Operation Overlord began in 1943. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At first Operation Overlord was suppose to occur in May (Stagg 12),yet due to weather forecasts the
plan was pushed back to June. Another problem was that every branch of the military wanted quiet
weather . This entailed low tides so that the underwater obstacles could be seen, the low tide needed to
be around mid morning so that they could bomb the defenses and so that a second low tide could roll
in before darkness set in(Miller 171). The Air troops wanted no ground fog or heavy mist, no more
than 6/10th of the sky be clouded, and a cloud base at least 3,000 feet above ground level. To ensure
that the troops were not too widely spread to the wind speed would need to be 20 mph. With no gusts
at the ground more than 30 mph(Stagg 13). The demands of the Air troopers were reasonable
especially since they were going to be the first ones to land in the middle of the night and start the
offensive. But, because of the weather many of the paratroopers missed their target and were separated
from their group. The infamous 101st airborne was the only group that was able to stay together and
suffer the least amount of casualties( in the book Band of Brothers one soldier not in their platoon asks
Where the hell am I (Ambrose 75). Indicates the unorganized drops). After weekly updates(
Eisenhower requested that the meteorologists give him detailed updates of the weather since January
1944) the operation was planned to go off on June 4, 1944. However, the sky began to seem ominous,
and the meteorologist had to warn Eisenhower that a cold front that was expected to pass through
Channel about Wednesday, would now be pushed forward earlier 24 or 36 hours earlier ( Stagg 102).
With moments the operation was suspended. One day later on June 5,1944 paratroopers and bombers
were able to go across the skies with almost clear skies ( other parts of the skies

Gas Laws Should Be Taught As A Verb
GAS LAWS
Science should be taught as a verb as well as a noun. Performing science is a compelling as well as an
effective way to learn. It is through the process of exploration, creation and invention that theories are
applied, ideas are tested and knowledge is synthesized.
Much of what discussed in the paper is to have an understanding of gases in the atmosphere, factors
that affect the properties of these gases and so the laws of gases which help to do so. Now why do we
need to study these laws? Because gases compose our atmosphere. These are responsible for the
process without which no one can survive i.e. breathing.
Atmosphere is a gaseous envelope surrounding the earth. It is made up of a combination of water ...

One of the most important things about gases is that, despite wide differences in chemical properties,
all the gases more or less obey the gas laws. The gas laws deal with how gases behave with respect to
pressure, temperature, volume and amount. This uniformity of physical behavior was of great interest
with early scientists. It is one of the dogmas of scientists that the behavior of a material is a reflection
of the particles that make up the substance. In other words, differences between solids, liquids and
gases reflect the movement of the small particles that compose all matter. This assumption is part of
the Kinetic Theory Of Gases (Kinetic is from the Greek word for motion). Historically, the description
of the gas properties has been summarized by the mathematical equations describing the relationships
between the gas volume, pressure and temperature. These equations, named after the scientist who
first demonstrated their validity, have been labeled the gas laws. These gas laws are best understood
within the framework described as the kinetic theory of gases:
Gases are composed of molecules.
These molecules are in constant motion. This is why gases mix to uniformity and fill all portions of
the containment vessel.
Molecules of the gas collide frequently with each other and with the walls of the containment vessel.
Under ordinary circumstances, the distance between the gas molecules is far greater than the size of
the individual

John Donne s Poetry
John Donne is in fact a pioneer in the poetic wit of love; he has paved the way for many metaphysical
poets after him. His style of writing, although immediately recognizable, formed to the events
unfolding around him. His work covers his early years of sensuality, where he produced explicit
sexual poetry, along with his later years of religious study, where he wrote explicit religious poetry, a
lot of which are hard to tell apart. Because none of Donne s poetry was published while he was living,
it is difficult for us to date it accurately, but we can assume that he wrote his more sensual poetry
before he went to work with the church. He changed the way most poets of the 16th and 17th centuries
wrote and had a large impact on the poets to follow after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning,
Donne compares two lovers to the points on a compass. This is surprising because Donne was not
using the conventional Petrarchan conceit to make comparisons like his colleagues. A metaphysical
conceit requires a more introspective way of reasoning to understand the speaker s emotions. Many
were shocked over how Donne transformed the conceit, failing then to see that his use of the
metaphysical conceit offered new insight into his poems and lyrics.
Another way Donne differs from his fellow Renaissance poets is with the use of a present listener.
Donne writes directly to whom the poem was written for, while the other poets of his day; mostly
write their poems without directing it towards a specific listener. His poems have very few large
descriptive passages like the one s used in the works of Edmund Spenser. Donne s poetry also doesn t
have the smooth, poetic flow that the other Renaissance poets had. Donne has done away with the
poetic flow and instead opted to use a speaking voice, whose syntax can easily show the intensity of

Essay on Power Structures of Men and Women in Sports
Power Structures of Men and Women in Sports
As an athlete or a spectator, it is easy to both feel and see the impact sports have on people of both
genders. Athletes are able to experience sports personally, while spectators usually experience sports
through different channels of mass media. Realizing the effects that the world of athletics has on
individuals and society as a whole is vital to the understanding of how sports can positively and
negatively effect athletes as well as spectators.
To deepen our understanding of the cultural values embedded in sports and to explore current values
and power structures regarding men and women, it is necessary to investigate the effect that the media
may possibly have in influencing beliefs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If men do not maintain this expected image, and choose to participate in sports that have been
dominated mostly by women, their sexuality is questioned. Comments like, Wow, what a Fag, are
often directed toward male figure skaters when viewed by spectators. This is very unfair and hurtful to
the victims of this false perception.
Aside from males participating in figure skating, women boxers are generally viewed by others as
manly. This is one of the most offensive terms a person can call a female boxer. The word degrades
femininity, especially when referring to a woman who chooses to be active in a sport that is non
tradition to her gender and has nothing at all to do with her femininity. In the film Girl Fight the main
character, Diana, chooses to train to become a boxer. It is apparent that Diana is not a lesbian because
she has a boyfriend, so her sexuality is not the issue in this film. However, because she is a female in a
male dominated sport, Diana does not generate the support of many people when she proposes her
idea about boxing. Boxing is considered inappropriate for her because she is a female. The trainer tells
her that he cannot work with her, but Diana does not allow this to stop her. The time, devotion, heart,
and desire she gives are all key elements in her efforts to becoming a successful boxer.
Both men and women undergo social costs when participating in a sport that is

My Shadowing Experience
These shadowing experiences have been very insightful. Scheduling my shadowing experiences
proved to be a bit of a challenge. Within the state of Maryland, public school students in third through
eighth grade take the annual PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and
Careers) assessment. The PARCC Assessment consists of reading and mathematics sections. The
assessment for each grade level consists of at least 7 units. Typically one day is designated for each
unit. Thus, while planning these shadowing experiences, I ensured that I did not visit on a testing day.
For this experience, I chose to visit an elementary school and its feeder middle school. I chose this
because students leave this elementary school with a high rate of student achievement, yet in middle
school the scores plummet. I wanted to investigate how this gap could be minimized. Comparing
philosophies, expectations and leadership styles for schools within the same community was also a
goal.
My first shadowing experience was on April 6, 2017 in a Prince Gorges County Public School middle
school facility. As I entered the building, I was greeted by a young man (a student) holding the door
for me. How polite I thought to myself. He then directed me to the office. Once in the office, I was
greeted by the secretary and asked to wait patiently because they were extremely busy. Even though
the front office was busy, everyone was welcoming, friendly yet efficient.

Describe The Importance Of Volunteering
UNDERSTANDING VOLUNTEER WORK
Volunteering is when a person out of his own will spends his time and makes an effort to help people
in his community and has no expectation of a reward in return. It also involves several individuals
pulling their resources together for a cause. Volunteering can be done individually, or by groups of
people who come together to form what is known as Non Profit Organizations. Volunteering has
recognition all over the world for the positive impact it has on both the volunteer and the volunteered.
They are several ways of volunteering ones service and the rewards that comes with it are also many.
Let s start by examining the different forms of volunteering.
Forms of Volunteering
1. Volunteering in poor Countries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the importance of volunteering is how healthy it makes one feel. You might wonder how this
works. It is believed that, those who volunteer feel more happy ,proud and confident of themselves
knowing that they are doing something good to help others aside themselves. This sense of happiness
makes them more relaxed and refreshed and this helps the human system to work more efficiently.
Volunteering offers an opportunity for people to meet and make new friends. As you go along with
people to communities to offer your services, you interact with them and get closer to them and
through that make friends. And as we all know, having friends to count on in times of difficulties can
be one of the comforting things in life. Also, we can even make friends from the people we go out to
help and this indeed expands our social networks.
Through volunteering, one may learn something new. This can be new skills such as problem solving
skills, project planning, assignment management etc. Again, one can also discover new things about
one s oneself such as, an ability to cope with difficult situations and also discover things about the
world, new cultures and appreciate people

The Importance Of Physical Activity
The use of pedometers and tracking tools for physical activity has allowed me to measure my energy
expenditure per day though tracking my steps, calculating the duration of physical activity completed
per week and analyzing the intensity and the type of activity I engage in. There are specific guidelines
set out for all age groups to attain the goal of the exercising while increasing the levels of intensity and
decreasing sedentary behaviors . This reflection will outline tips and tricks to staying active and
reducing sedentary activity. I will identify the facilitators and barriers to exercising through the
analyses of my physical activity log while highlighting the strengths and weakness of my physical
activity habits. Exercise overtime will improve current fitness; it will increase Cardio respiratory
fitness and muscular fitness, decrease the risks associated to chronic disease and improve mental
health.1
Being a student, I am aware of the commitment to completing my school work and attending all of my
classes in the University. Unfortunately, this result to more sedentary activity then I would like. I
attend three classes a day that vary in length, but accumulates to five hours a day of sitting, this does
not include the time spent studying and completing assignments. I spend an average of a minimum of
three to six hours per day studying aside from going to class, this contributes to eight to eleven hours
per day of sedentary activity. The average time adults spend in

The Philosophy Of Social Science
Hollis expresses his intention to explore the philosophy of social science of which he categorises into
four modes. He attempted to seek for the acceptable compromises between all and each mode to
define a better way of understanding the social world. Hollis clearly states that the key task of this
book is to reflect on the underlying philosophy of social science through the critical examination of
the theory and methodology in each approach. Some of the key questions are; whether the study of
social science can use the same method as in natural science, does structure determine an action or
does action determines structure in the process of social changes, and is there such a thing as the
universal strategy to help social scientists in understanding the way of the world. The main theme
focuses on Explanation and Understanding with the minor theme of Holism and Individualism. The
book initially gives the impression that each social study approach has its strength and weakness that
the combination of approaches would be beneficial and worth pursuing.
Hollis starts off with the introduction of Structure and Action. The comparative framework is set out
by the two social scientists who employ two different principles; Karl Marx and John Stuart Mills.
Determinism is then introduced to further illuminate the difference between these two theories. Hollis
also provides readers with the fundamental feature of Explanation and Understanding. The
comparison represented through the

Professional And Academic Knowledge At The Fairfax County...
To enhancement of my professional and academic knowledge, the internship program might be an
essential tool and supporting element. Working with the Fairfax County s ADR office, I have been
gaining some knowledge in the field of workplace conflict, where facilitation, intake, and conflict
coaching conflict are major techniques being used for conflict resolution. In this period, the following
targeted objectives have been addressing through the different program implementation strategies.
1. Learning the techniques that can be used in the organizational conflict facilitation/mediation;
2. Enhancing my effective communication skill by outreaching to other agencies in Fairfax
Government and community;
3. Developing my research skill through information gathering, verifying, and analyzing from the
internet;
4. Analyzing facilitation skills needed for conflict resolution through observing meeting, training, and
workshops;
To address these objectives, I have been working very closely with the ADR team and getting
significant amount of support. As a conflict resolution scholar, organizational conflict facilitation, and
mediation techniques are extremely important and helpful to support may future job as well as
academic knowledge. I have found that the Fairfax County has huge number of employee dispute and
conflict because of poor relationship, lack of training, personality differences, and different values.

Casablanca Film Techniques
Shot 1: As we all know Casablanca was and still is one of the most famous movies. In shot one the
cinematography utilize many different techniques. For example, in shot one I see a medium shot and a
low medium angle when Victor and Rick were talking or arguing. Another, strength of Casablanca is
the black and white lighting. In my opinion, the director made a crucial decision in shot one, the
performance of both Victor and Rick standing in front of the frame with great lighting and few
shadows behind. As viewer, I did notice loudness and sounds in the background however, it didn t
bother me because I was concentrated listen to Victor. In shot one I can tell Victor Laszlo face

In Shot eighteen we seen Yvonne in a close up shot being emotional and crying. The frame of the
close up point out a portion of the face and isolates an objects. Also as mention before the facial
gesture of Yvonne crying makes us to believe of what she was feeling. In this shot there were no
objects or any other visual information in the background away from the face. In addition, frontal
lighting eliminates most of the surface shading which it gives Yvonne a soft glamour. I would think
the director used a fill lighting technique in shot eighteen. In this shot the sound can be interpreter in
many different ways. First, mixing sound which each song takes place within different pattern which it
kind overlap the sound from one song to another song. Second, we can assumed the sound can be
external diegetic or nondiegetic. As we heard the music out of the frame but we also see Yvonne
signing as diegetic. However, nondiegetic sound because we actually don t see the instruments within
the shot although we heard the external sound. Therefore, shot eighteen can be either nonscreen or
onscreen sound. We also see a nice change cut. The editing in shot eighteen of Casablanca is essential
especially because it shows the transition from one shot to the next shot. The editing technique in shot
eighteen makes us wonder why Yvonne facial expression of sadness and crying. I felt

Descriptive Essay On A Bathtub
In a nook, hidden away in a spacious house, on the shore of Cape Cod, lies a bathtub. The white
acrylic platform glistens when the sun shines through the lengthy window. During darkness, a candle
can be seen, with the flame standing still, no wind, and no sound. The aroma of Sun and Sand scented
Yankee Candle turns the blue walls of the bathroom into a clear, sky and the tile floors into warm sand
of a tropical island. Beyond this bathroom door lies chaos. As the door creaks open, eight siblings,
loud television shows, and pots and pans tossing, would bombard you. If you are lucky my black
cuddly dog would knock you over. You may believe that a bathtub is just an ordinary household
essential, but take all of your life experiences and dump them here. It is as if it is a shark cage
protecting you from the massive great white shark approaching. In the cage you know you are safe,
you can hear your deepest thoughts, and all is well. Take a deeper look into the bathtub bubbles it will
become so much more.
I became hooked from the start, my very first bath. I certainly did not remember this occurrence, but
the picture of my bald head with that from the ear to ear smile, sitting in a bubbly sink, proved that it

Essay On Prions
Deactivation of Prions in the Healthcare Setting Prions are infectious agents composed entirely of a

epidemiologically comparable to the spread of viral infection. Prions composed of the prion protein
are believed to be the cause of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies among other diseases. All
known prion diseases are untreatable and fatal.
. Prions, however, are infectious by their effect on normal versions of the protein. Sterilizing prions,
therefore, requires the denaturation of the protein to a state in which the molecule is no longer able to

The hypnotic induction has several stages.
Firstly the preparation stage, whereby therapist and client can discuss what the client is hoping to

Within the Universities operating budget for the 2016 2017 school year a breakdown of the athletics
budget is available. The University provides 2.37% of its $1,695,827,240 budget ( Operating Budget ).
This is $40,140,918 for the entire USF system, which is then broken down into different aspects such

One member of the team, Michaels Jones, tells us this, and explains how difficult it is to fit these
fundraisers into her already busy schedule. Having the cheerleaders, and band at football games is an
important part of the atmosphere and is one aspects many students consider when choosing a school.
Scholarships are something that are often associated with the thought of college athletics, and are used
as a way to bring individuals to a particular university. These are an important part of building a team
of the best athletes possible. At the University of South Florida, scholarship opportunities for
cheerleaders are very minimal. With $24,000 yearly given to this team for this purpose, $500
maximum is available to each student ( Operating Budget ). Due to this lack of funding, many
members of the team must have outside jobs in order to make do throughout the school year. Having a
job, as well as participating in the 25+ hours of cheerleading related activities, and maintaining
eligibility GPA can put a large strain on the athlete ( USF Spirit Squads ).
Recruitment budget is also an important aspect of continual growth of a team and a way to bring new
students to the university. Third year veteran, Michaela Jones, provided insight into the recruitment
aspect of USF

The film King Arthur differs in a great propensity with the traditional Arthurian tale. The elements
which represent the medieval society and which forms the key aspect of the traditional tale, have not

movie. Moreover, the film chooses to not include Camelot, Avalon and Mordred. Important characters
like Mordred, the archetypical villain in the traditional tale of King Arthur is not ascribed to any
significance in the film. The character of Guinevere is indispensable in the Arthurian legend as well as
in the movie. However, the very characteristic of Guinevere is represented in a dynamically polar
opposite fashion in both the traditional tale of King Arthur and the movie. Contrary to the ancient tale,
Guinevere is no damsel in distress in the movie. The representation of Guinevere in the movie as a
warrior queen who partakes in the war along with King Arthur is emblematic as it does not depict the
character of a woman in the light of the gender typicality. It is an important alteration that the movie
chooses to make from the traditional tale.

Comparing Genji And The Tale Of Heike
The era of feudal Japan was a rich developing culture that gave fruit to the Tale of Genji and the Tale

Japanese literature. A martial epic deeply influenced by Buddhism and a sensual, romantic
psychological prose. Both served as a window to the archaic era s way of like. The two brilliant pieces

In those days men were taught to write in Chinese it was a sign of superior status which was
prominent in their writings and all other documents. Women were generally being much more discreet

was because the Tale was geared towards female audiences, whom only knew Japanese traditional

Tax Evasion Paper
The Extended Arm of the United States Government in its Battle against Tax Evaders
Professor: Kenneth Lavery
Submitted By: Deanne Patterson
Week 6: July 31, 2011
Taxes are a major contributor of the American economy. The tax system in the United States depends
on voluntary compliance, which means that each citizen is responsible for filing a tax return when
required and for determining and paying the correct amount of tax . (Albrect, Albrect, Albrect Albrect
and Zimbelman). When individuals under report, exaggerate deductions, and hide money in off shore
accounts, this is clearly misrepresentation of their income to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and is
deemed tax evasion. The term tax evasion is defined as using illegal ... Show more content on

The Interpretation of the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States continues to
present many arguments as to the legality of income taxes in America and Globally. This student
believes that the interpretation of the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States
continues to present many arguments concerning the legality of the American income tax system.
When the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution was ratified (February 3, 1913) giving Congress
the power to lay and collect taxes on incomes , citizens began arguing that it was not properly ratified
and income taxes are illegal. Citizens continue to raise such arguments in spite of the fact that they
have no basis in law and the courts have repeatedly rejected their arguments as frivolous. Promoters
and their followers have long employed frivolous arguments concerning the legality of the income tax
as pretexts to enrich themselves or evade their taxes. Their motivation is usually monetary. Anti
taxation groups used different arguments to gain followers, they all share one thing in common; they
received substantial sentences in a federal prison for their activities. Their followers paid a steep price
for following bad advice. Some were prosecuted, many more were involved in years of litigation and
ultimately had to pay all taxes owed along with penalties and

An Analysis of Neutral Tones by Thomas Hardy Essay
An Analysis of Neutral Tones by Thomas Hardy
We stood by a pond that winter day, (1) This line indicates a still quietness, with lack of the movement
of life. There is a vast difference in appearance and movement around a pond in winter and a pond in
the midst of summer. This indicates no leaves, and no visible signs of life. The poet is painting a stark
and lifeless scene.
And the sun was white, as though chidden of God, (2) This is indicative of the modernist approach to
light as being too harsh and not a positive factor. Chidden means scolded, rebuked, or even blamed.
God is not looking favorably upon these people.

This stanza ties in with the first stanza and lets the reader know it is the beautiful love between these
two people that is dying on this cold winter day.
The smile on your mouth was the deadest thing (9) is a very telling line. She is pretending to be kind
and to smile, but he sees through her and knows it is false. Her smile appears deader to him than the
fallen leaves do.
Alive enough to have strength to die; /And a grin of bitterness swept thereby (10 11). These lines show
that the poet realizes some life in her smile, but not what he wants to see. There is a difference
between a genuinely happy smile and a forced grin, and the latter is what he sees on her face.
Like an ominous bird a wing... (12) foretells her leaving him. He is seeing in her forced grin an omen
of bad luck. Many people see owls as an omen of death if they hoot outside their window for seven
nights in a row. It is in this sense that the poet speaks of her dead smile.
Since then, keen lessons that love deceives, (13). This line is a reflective line from the poet on his
feelings of her deceit toward him. He loved her and she broke his heart by lying to him.
And wrings with wrong, have shaped to me (14) tells that she wronged him and changed him because
of it.

Examples Of Diversity In Political Parties
Many Americans know of the dominant Democratic and Republican parties when talking about
politics. Few may know of the many diverse parties that have and still do grace American soil. The
diversity of political parties may seem confusing to some, but when examined closely, is a prime
example of what America stands for, the right to choose. Some may argue that the American political
system does not exemplify the Constitutional right to choose despite its many choices in political
practices. However, others may argue that the diversity in political choice and practice despite not

Health Care For Medical Errors
One change in healthcare that is likely to happen is the increasing transition to a more quality and
value based approach. This is in part due to reimbursement model changes regarding patient outcomes
as well as ethical concerns about the large number of preventable errors that continue to occur in our
current system (Sachs, 2015). Between 210,000 and 400,000 deaths happen yearly due to medical
errors in addition to approximately 4,000,000 to 8,000,000 errors that cause serious harm. It is clear
that high costs are not providing excelling results. As our current system continues to shift in this
value based direction, we will likely see even further changes in how and where care and treatments
are provided (Phillips, 2015). For instance, home visits are beginning to be utilized to provide care for
minor and chronic conditions. As in centuries past, basic health care is starting to be delivered in a
patient s home. Hospital care is expensive comparatively, and the risk for complications such as
medical errors, infection, and other hospital acquired conditions increases. The use of urgent care
centers is also growing rapidly as they can provide quicker, cheaper, and equally effective services to
individuals than the emergency room which used to care for these patients very ineffectively. This
trend towards more cost effective, value oriented care can also be seen in the increasing use of lower
cost outpatient surgery centers performing procedures that used to be performed in

1.0 Introduction 2.1 Background of the Study
It all started when four visionaries conceptualized setting up a training center to fill very specific
manpower needs.
It was in the early 80s when Augusto C. Lagman, Herman T. Gamboa, Benjamin A. Santos, and Edgar
H. Sarte four entrepreneurs came together to set up Systems Technology Institute (STI), a training
center that delivers basic programming education to professionals and students who want to learn this
new skill.
Systems Technology Institute s name came from countless brainstorming sessions among the
founders, perhaps from Sarte s penchant for three letter acronyms from the companies he managed at
the time.

Analysis Of The Book Private Yankee Doodle
6. Reviews: The book was first published by Martin in 1830 with the title A Narrative of Some of the

Incidents That Occurred Within His Own Observation. In 1962, it was republished under the title
Private Yankee Doodle, Being a Narrative of some of the Adventures, Dangers and Sufferings of a
Revolutionary Soldier. In 2001 it was republished again under the title A Narrative of a Revolutionary
Soldier. The reviews I found were from those who have read the book. Here are just a few of what I
found: Michael Mazza This book is a remarkable piece of early United States literature. It should be
read by current military personnel, veterans advocates, students of history, and students of U.S.
literature. Lawrence Michael Amazingly readable narrative. Mr. Martin puts the reader into the worn
rags and shoeless feet of the private soldier of the continental line of the War for American
Independence. Maureen Davis Great book depicting the true story of a young man that volunteered to
fight for his country. Written with a dose of self humor. I enjoyed it front to back and recommend it to
anyone interested in the life of a revolutionary war solider. Connie Knowlton A very authentic account
of life in the Colonial Army. The book needs to be read more than once to get the full impact of
suffering and sacrifice but it is well worth a second reading. 7. Primary Sources the

Analysis: Bach Suite No. 3 in D major
The instruments used in the piece are: * Trumpet 1 * Trumpet 2 * Trumpet 3 * Timpani * Oboe 1 *
Oboe 2 * Violin 1 * Violin 2 * Viola * Continuo Harpsichord or Double Bass
Why this piece is typically baroque
This is piece is baroque as it includes many of the baroque characteristics: * Perfect Cadence!! In the
concept Pitch, the perfect cadence is very obvious at the end of the sections and phrases change from
the dominant to the tonic. * Duration the rhythmic pattern heard at the start of each gavotte, is

The phrases are generally 8 beats long extending over 3 the last two beats of the first bar and the first
two beats of the third bar( in the excerpt to the right).
Throughout Section A, there is no syncopation all notes fall on the beat.
Texture The texture is homophonic throughout the whole of Section A. There are three layers of sound
in the Section A. The first is the melody played by the violins and trumpets. This is the layer of sound
which is most prominent throughout A. The second is the timpani and viola part. This is the softest
layer throughout the section. It provides harmony to the melody, using the notes of the D major chord.
The last layer is the continuo bass It provides accompaniment and bass.
The harmonic rhythm is not very steady as the chords only change in bars 7, 10 and 11. The chord
changes from D to A and then from A to E and E to A (shown in the musical excerpt). These chord
changes are changes from either the dominant to the tonic or the tonic to the dominant, showing the
typical barque chord changes.
Through adding trumpets, bars 1 3 and bars 5 7 are the densest of Section A. This highlights the main
repeated motif. Bars 3 5 and 7 11 are softer as these are the less important phrases of the section.
Section A1 bars 12 27
This Section is called A1, because it uses similar rhythms and pitch throughout the Section. The
structure of the section is however not the same to section A as there are various key changes

Fluoride Water Crisis
Having lived a good portion of my life in the US, I am very aware of the ongoing and vast array of
conversations about water. There are issues with drought, flooding, contamination, water rights and
even stealing, but the conversation that many people neglect to have is the one about fluoridation.
While I find myself disturbed by the fact that most people turn a blind eye to this use of fluorides in
our public water systems, I am equally disturbed that municipalities do it at all.
Too often we blindly trust that our government has our best interest at the base of their decisions. Not

The Debate on Fighting in Hockey
There is no sporting event that brings an explosion quite like that of an ice hockey fight. Ice hockey
has always been stereotyped as brutal and unnecessarily violent, a game full of players who are
nothing but goons . Fighting in hockey is a form of sanctioned violence, as it has deemed acceptable
in hockey since the introduction of the National Hockey League in 1917. The league did note even
penalize it until the 1922 NHL season (Brandon 2013). A recent political uproar has taken place within
the hockey world as more people are pushing to have fighting completely removed from the game. As
a hockey player for over 25 years, I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course the biggest reason for the idea of banning fighting in hockey is for player safety and trying
to minimize potentially severe injuries. Players of the sport know what their getting into when they
take the ice night in and night out. Players take on full responsibility and many believe it needs to be
in hockey as it has always been
The leading case for why some critics believe fighting should be banned is the number of concussions
which stem from the players being struck in the head with a punch, or from their heads hitting the ice
when falling. Although there is potential for head injuries fighting is not the leading cause. In North
America alone, there were approximately 890 000 ice hockey players; these numbers have been on a
steady incline every decade. As more and more people play the game, more injuries occur, and
concussions have become a rapidly growing cause for concern in a number of sports, not just hockey.
The number of concussions resulting from hockey injuries has increased dramatically in the past two
decades, but it is important to know what the causes of these injuries are. A study conducted by
Rodney Paul and Andrew Weinbach (2011) over the course of two years, which included 555 hockey
players who played in the BCHL, one of the leading junior hockey leagues Canada, found that of all
the concussions stemming from two complete seasons, only 7.3% were caused from fighting. The
main causes of these concussions were a

How Television Affected Hollywood
After the golden Age of Hollywood the movie business slowly began to decline. In my last paper I
looked at the Paramount decision and the Hollywood blacklist incident which were some of the
reasons for the dwindling business. Another great development that changed cinematic history was the
invention of the television. In the following essay I will look at the invention of the television, how it
affected Hollywood, some of the ways that Hollywood tried to cope, and the changes of the
production code during this time. According to Jon Lewis in his book American Cinema By 1960
there were 50 million TV sets in homes across the United States (American Film, Lewis, P.235). This
sudden boom in television in homes caused movie goers to drop by over 50% with profits plummeting
accordingly. This sudden dive in profits caused studios to go bankrupt and in the late fifty s early sixty
s buyouts and mergers of film companies was frequent (American Film, Lewis, P.235 238). Studios
were desperate for ideas on how to bring people back to the movies. Hollywood tried to jump on the
TV bandwagon, but it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

extended engagement, the Production Code Administration (PCA) officially opened for business. the

  • 2. Psych 3355 Reflective Essay Hello students of Psych 3355, It would be my greatest pleasure to inform you about this class taught by Dr. Garefino! There are many aspects of this course I want to talk to you about which will help you succeed. Firstly, remembering due dates are important! I had to learn the hard way that not doing required assignments can result in significant point loss. Assignments that are required in this class are not at all difficult and are very informative. In order to learn about different aspects of various cultures, it is crucial that you do all of your readings on time and do those assignments. After taking this class I realized how similar and different culture is from one country to another. Secondly, make sure you do the practice quizzes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why The Allies Won The Battle Of Normandy Hitler and the Allies realized that a battle on the western coast of Europe would decide the outcome of the war. The Allies utilized this knowledge and began immediately planning Operation Overlord. Little did they know, the battle of Normandy would be the most significant Allied offensive battle on the Western front(Walker). In total, the operation would take the combined effort of 176,475 men, 3,000 guns, 1,500 tanks, and 15,000 other assorted vehicles (Walker). People recognize the glorious outcome of that fateful day, June 6,1944, but they don t know that it took months of strategizing, training, and weather forecasts until Operation Overlord became a legend amongst international armies. The planning of Operation Overlord began in 1943. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first Operation Overlord was suppose to occur in May (Stagg 12),yet due to weather forecasts the plan was pushed back to June. Another problem was that every branch of the military wanted quiet weather . This entailed low tides so that the underwater obstacles could be seen, the low tide needed to be around mid morning so that they could bomb the defenses and so that a second low tide could roll in before darkness set in(Miller 171). The Air troops wanted no ground fog or heavy mist, no more than 6/10th of the sky be clouded, and a cloud base at least 3,000 feet above ground level. To ensure that the troops were not too widely spread to the wind speed would need to be 20 mph. With no gusts at the ground more than 30 mph(Stagg 13). The demands of the Air troopers were reasonable especially since they were going to be the first ones to land in the middle of the night and start the offensive. But, because of the weather many of the paratroopers missed their target and were separated from their group. The infamous 101st airborne was the only group that was able to stay together and suffer the least amount of casualties( in the book Band of Brothers one soldier not in their platoon asks Where the hell am I (Ambrose 75). Indicates the unorganized drops). After weekly updates( Eisenhower requested that the meteorologists give him detailed updates of the weather since January 1944) the operation was planned to go off on June 4, 1944. However, the sky began to seem ominous, and the meteorologist had to warn Eisenhower that a cold front that was expected to pass through Channel about Wednesday, would now be pushed forward earlier 24 or 36 hours earlier ( Stagg 102). With moments the operation was suspended. One day later on June 5,1944 paratroopers and bombers were able to go across the skies with almost clear skies ( other parts of the skies ... • 4. Gas Laws Should Be Taught As A Verb GAS LAWS Science should be taught as a verb as well as a noun. Performing science is a compelling as well as an effective way to learn. It is through the process of exploration, creation and invention that theories are applied, ideas are tested and knowledge is synthesized. Much of what discussed in the paper is to have an understanding of gases in the atmosphere, factors that affect the properties of these gases and so the laws of gases which help to do so. Now why do we need to study these laws? Because gases compose our atmosphere. These are responsible for the process without which no one can survive i.e. breathing. Atmosphere is a gaseous envelope surrounding the earth. It is made up of a combination of water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most important things about gases is that, despite wide differences in chemical properties, all the gases more or less obey the gas laws. The gas laws deal with how gases behave with respect to pressure, temperature, volume and amount. This uniformity of physical behavior was of great interest with early scientists. It is one of the dogmas of scientists that the behavior of a material is a reflection of the particles that make up the substance. In other words, differences between solids, liquids and gases reflect the movement of the small particles that compose all matter. This assumption is part of the Kinetic Theory Of Gases (Kinetic is from the Greek word for motion). Historically, the description of the gas properties has been summarized by the mathematical equations describing the relationships between the gas volume, pressure and temperature. These equations, named after the scientist who first demonstrated their validity, have been labeled the gas laws. These gas laws are best understood within the framework described as the kinetic theory of gases: Gases are composed of molecules. These molecules are in constant motion. This is why gases mix to uniformity and fill all portions of the containment vessel. Molecules of the gas collide frequently with each other and with the walls of the containment vessel. Under ordinary circumstances, the distance between the gas molecules is far greater than the size of the individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. John Donne s Poetry John Donne is in fact a pioneer in the poetic wit of love; he has paved the way for many metaphysical poets after him. His style of writing, although immediately recognizable, formed to the events unfolding around him. His work covers his early years of sensuality, where he produced explicit sexual poetry, along with his later years of religious study, where he wrote explicit religious poetry, a lot of which are hard to tell apart. Because none of Donne s poetry was published while he was living, it is difficult for us to date it accurately, but we can assume that he wrote his more sensual poetry before he went to work with the church. He changed the way most poets of the 16th and 17th centuries wrote and had a large impact on the poets to follow after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, Donne compares two lovers to the points on a compass. This is surprising because Donne was not using the conventional Petrarchan conceit to make comparisons like his colleagues. A metaphysical conceit requires a more introspective way of reasoning to understand the speaker s emotions. Many were shocked over how Donne transformed the conceit, failing then to see that his use of the metaphysical conceit offered new insight into his poems and lyrics. Another way Donne differs from his fellow Renaissance poets is with the use of a present listener. Donne writes directly to whom the poem was written for, while the other poets of his day; mostly write their poems without directing it towards a specific listener. His poems have very few large descriptive passages like the one s used in the works of Edmund Spenser. Donne s poetry also doesn t have the smooth, poetic flow that the other Renaissance poets had. Donne has done away with the poetic flow and instead opted to use a speaking voice, whose syntax can easily show the intensity of Donne s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Power Structures of Men and Women in Sports Power Structures of Men and Women in Sports As an athlete or a spectator, it is easy to both feel and see the impact sports have on people of both genders. Athletes are able to experience sports personally, while spectators usually experience sports through different channels of mass media. Realizing the effects that the world of athletics has on individuals and society as a whole is vital to the understanding of how sports can positively and negatively effect athletes as well as spectators. To deepen our understanding of the cultural values embedded in sports and to explore current values and power structures regarding men and women, it is necessary to investigate the effect that the media may possibly have in influencing beliefs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If men do not maintain this expected image, and choose to participate in sports that have been dominated mostly by women, their sexuality is questioned. Comments like, Wow, what a Fag, are often directed toward male figure skaters when viewed by spectators. This is very unfair and hurtful to the victims of this false perception. Aside from males participating in figure skating, women boxers are generally viewed by others as manly. This is one of the most offensive terms a person can call a female boxer. The word degrades femininity, especially when referring to a woman who chooses to be active in a sport that is non tradition to her gender and has nothing at all to do with her femininity. In the film Girl Fight the main character, Diana, chooses to train to become a boxer. It is apparent that Diana is not a lesbian because she has a boyfriend, so her sexuality is not the issue in this film. However, because she is a female in a male dominated sport, Diana does not generate the support of many people when she proposes her idea about boxing. Boxing is considered inappropriate for her because she is a female. The trainer tells her that he cannot work with her, but Diana does not allow this to stop her. The time, devotion, heart, and desire she gives are all key elements in her efforts to becoming a successful boxer. Both men and women undergo social costs when participating in a sport that is ... • 7. My Shadowing Experience These shadowing experiences have been very insightful. Scheduling my shadowing experiences proved to be a bit of a challenge. Within the state of Maryland, public school students in third through eighth grade take the annual PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) assessment. The PARCC Assessment consists of reading and mathematics sections. The assessment for each grade level consists of at least 7 units. Typically one day is designated for each unit. Thus, while planning these shadowing experiences, I ensured that I did not visit on a testing day. For this experience, I chose to visit an elementary school and its feeder middle school. I chose this because students leave this elementary school with a high rate of student achievement, yet in middle school the scores plummet. I wanted to investigate how this gap could be minimized. Comparing philosophies, expectations and leadership styles for schools within the same community was also a goal. My first shadowing experience was on April 6, 2017 in a Prince Gorges County Public School middle school facility. As I entered the building, I was greeted by a young man (a student) holding the door for me. How polite I thought to myself. He then directed me to the office. Once in the office, I was greeted by the secretary and asked to wait patiently because they were extremely busy. Even though the front office was busy, everyone was welcoming, friendly yet efficient. • 10. The Philosophy Of Social Science Hollis expresses his intention to explore the philosophy of social science of which he categorises into four modes. He attempted to seek for the acceptable compromises between all and each mode to define a better way of understanding the social world. Hollis clearly states that the key task of this book is to reflect on the underlying philosophy of social science through the critical examination of the theory and methodology in each approach. Some of the key questions are; whether the study of social science can use the same method as in natural science, does structure determine an action or does action determines structure in the process of social changes, and is there such a thing as the universal strategy to help social scientists in understanding the way of the world. The main theme focuses on Explanation and Understanding with the minor theme of Holism and Individualism. The book initially gives the impression that each social study approach has its strength and weakness that the combination of approaches would be beneficial and worth pursuing. Hollis starts off with the introduction of Structure and Action. The comparative framework is set out by the two social scientists who employ two different principles; Karl Marx and John Stuart Mills. Determinism is then introduced to further illuminate the difference between these two theories. Hollis also provides readers with the fundamental feature of Explanation and Understanding. The elements which represent the medieval society and which forms the key aspect of the traditional tale, have not been included. The Holy Grail, a vital motif that is persistent in the traditional tale of King Arthur is dropped from the cinematic representation of the tale. The film differs from the tale on multitudinous accounts, for instance there is an absence of the love affair between Lancelot and Guinevere in the movie. And the sun was white, as though chidden of God, (2) This is indicative of the modernist approach to light as being too harsh and not a positive factor. • 26. Health Care For Medical Errors One change in healthcare that is likely to happen is the increasing transition to a more quality and value based approach. This is in part due to reimbursement model changes regarding patient outcomes as well as ethical concerns about the large number of preventable errors that continue to occur in our current system (Sachs, 2015). Between 210,000 and 400,000 deaths happen yearly due to medical errors in addition to approximately 4,000,000 to 8,000,000 errors that cause serious harm. It is clear that high costs are not providing excelling results. As our current system continues to shift in this value based direction, we will likely see even further changes in how and where care and treatments are provided (Phillips, 2015). For instance, home visits are beginning to be utilized to provide care for minor and chronic conditions. As in centuries past, basic health care is starting to be delivered in a patient s home. Hospital care is expensive comparatively, and the risk for complications such as medical errors, infection, and other hospital acquired conditions increases. The use of urgent care centers is also growing rapidly as they can provide quicker, cheaper, and equally effective services to individuals than the emergency room which used to care for these patients very ineffectively. This trend towards more cost effective, value oriented care can also be seen in the increasing use of lower cost outpatient surgery centers performing procedures that used to be performed in ... These sought after characteristics exist in the literature of the time, none more recognized than Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales. The Canterbury Tales offers valuable insight on many aspects of medieval society including what culture thought of as the model person. • 29. Analysis Of The Book Private Yankee Doodle 6. Reviews: The book was first published by Martin in 1830 with the title A Narrative of Some of the Adventures, Dangers and Sufferings of a Revolutionary Soldier, Interspersed with Anecdotes of Incidents That Occurred Within His Own Observation. In 1962, it was republished under the title Private Yankee Doodle, Being a Narrative of some of the Adventures, Dangers and Sufferings of a Revolutionary Soldier. In 2001 it was republished again under the title A Narrative of a Revolutionary Soldier. The reviews I found were from those who have read the book. Here are just a few of what I found: Michael Mazza This book is a remarkable piece of early United States literature. It should be read by current military personnel, veterans advocates, students of history, and students of U.S. literature. Lawrence Michael Amazingly readable narrative. Mr. Martin puts the reader into the worn rags and shoeless feet of the private soldier of the continental line of the War for American Independence. Maureen Davis Great book depicting the true story of a young man that volunteered to fight for his country. Written with a dose of self humor. I enjoyed it front to back and recommend it to anyone interested in the life of a revolutionary war solider. Connie Knowlton A very authentic account of life in the Colonial Army. The book needs to be read more than once to get the full impact of suffering and sacrifice but it is well worth a second reading. 7. Primary Sources the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. A Magic Demon Axe The gates forcefully slammed shut, leaving the young adventurer thrown outside briefly rattled by the sound. Well, you were some help in there, Lili. How was I supposed to help? I m just an axe. A magic demon axe that talks to me in my head, Jax corrected. A nearby guard noticed Jax still standing outside the gate and pointed his spear threateningly. Demon. Demons generally aren t very helpful, you know. I hadn t noticed Lilith, thank you for pointing that out to me. Could you also tell me what color the sky is? If you knew that, why ask? You humans are such a bother. The couple across the street looked similar, but Justin never got handsy with Angel in public unless he was totally hammered. A chuckle escaped Jax s lips when the sweethearts finally made their way towards the local inn. Ugh, those lovebirds are all that s despicable about the human race. Meaning they re good people? Is that what you would call it? In my book, at least. Your book also says that it s the axe s fault that you don t have a job. How many times do we have to go over this? Until you stop blaming me for your problems. Not until you stop causing them. Now where did Justin say they d be again? The Tavern, like always? The lake, I m supposed to meet them at the lake. They probably went to the tavern first, but even those two wouldn t meet with a kid in a tavern. I hardly think that a 16 year old counts as a baby goat. Then again, it is you, so... Jax responded with an eye roll for the ages. Are you done? Not quite, but it can wait. Good. they re probably done drinking by now anyway. Are they ever done drinking? Technically, yes. Otherwise, no. But in their defense, they have a lot of reasons to drink. The phrases are generally 8 beats long extending over 3 the last two beats of the first bar and the first two beats of the third bar( in the excerpt to the right). Throughout Section A, there is no syncopation all notes fall on the beat. Texture The texture is homophonic throughout the whole of Section A. There are three layers of sound in the Section A. The first is the melody played by the violins and trumpets. This is the layer of sound which is most prominent throughout A. The second is the timpani and viola part. This is the softest layer throughout the section. It provides harmony to the melody, using the notes of the D major chord. The last layer is the continuo bass It provides accompaniment and bass. The harmonic rhythm is not very steady as the chords only change in bars 7, 10 and 11. The chord changes from D to A and then from A to E and E to A (shown in the musical excerpt). These chord changes are changes from either the dominant to the tonic or the tonic to the dominant, showing the typical barque chord changes. Through adding trumpets, bars 1 3 and bars 5 7 are the densest of Section A. This highlights the main repeated motif. Bars 3 5 and 7 11 are softer as these are the less important phrases of the section. Section A1 bars 12 27 This Section is called A1, because it uses similar rhythms and pitch throughout the Section. The structure of the section is however not the same to section A as there are various key changes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Fluoride Water Crisis Having lived a good portion of my life in the US, I am very aware of the ongoing and vast array of conversations about water. There are issues with drought, flooding, contamination, water rights and even stealing, but the conversation that many people neglect to have is the one about fluoridation. While I find myself disturbed by the fact that most people turn a blind eye to this use of fluorides in our public water systems, I am equally disturbed that municipalities do it at all. Too often we blindly trust that our government has our best interest at the base of their decisions. Not to paint with too wide of a brush, but we all know only too well that that not always the case. I don t mean to sound overly cynical, but it often appears ... • 33. Fighting In Hockey Essay The Debate on Fighting in Hockey Brandon M. Robsion Devry University The Debate on Fighting in Hockey There is no sporting event that brings an explosion quite like that of an ice hockey fight. Ice hockey has always been stereotyped as brutal and unnecessarily violent, a game full of players who are nothing but goons . Fighting in hockey is a form of sanctioned violence, as it has deemed acceptable in hockey since the introduction of the National Hockey League in 1917. The league did note even penalize it until the 1922 NHL season (Brandon 2013). A recent political uproar has taken place within the hockey world as more people are pushing to have fighting completely removed from the game. As a hockey player for over 25 years, I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course the biggest reason for the idea of banning fighting in hockey is for player safety and trying to minimize potentially severe injuries. Players of the sport know what their getting into when they take the ice night in and night out. Players take on full responsibility and many believe it needs to be in hockey as it has always been The leading case for why some critics believe fighting should be banned is the number of concussions which stem from the players being struck in the head with a punch, or from their heads hitting the ice when falling. Although there is potential for head injuries fighting is not the leading cause. In North America alone, there were approximately 890 000 ice hockey players; these numbers have been on a steady incline every decade. As more and more people play the game, more injuries occur, and concussions have become a rapidly growing cause for concern in a number of sports, not just hockey. The number of concussions resulting from hockey injuries has increased dramatically in the past two decades, but it is important to know what the causes of these injuries are. A study conducted by Rodney Paul and Andrew Weinbach (2011) over the course of two years, which included 555 hockey players who played in the BCHL, one of the leading junior hockey leagues Canada, found that of all the concussions stemming from two complete seasons, only 7.3% were caused from fighting. • 35. How Television Affected Hollywood After the golden Age of Hollywood the movie business slowly began to decline. In my last paper I looked at the Paramount decision and the Hollywood blacklist incident which were some of the reasons for the dwindling business. Another great development that changed cinematic history was the invention of the television. In the following essay I will look at the invention of the television, how it affected Hollywood, some of the ways that Hollywood tried to cope, and the changes of the production code during this time. According to Jon Lewis in his book American Cinema By 1960 there were 50 million TV sets in homes across the United States (American Film, Lewis, P.235). This sudden boom in television in homes caused movie goers to drop by over 50% with profits plummeting accordingly. This sudden dive in profits caused studios to go bankrupt and in the late fifty s early sixty s buyouts and mergers of film companies was frequent (American Film, Lewis, P.235 238). Studios were desperate for ideas on how to bring people back to the movies. Hollywood tried to jump on the TV bandwagon, but it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
