I had always been told my entire life that I should play football. Always the biggest kid in all of my
classes. People would ask me all the time what position I played, I had no idea what they were talking

It s easy to see his shock and almost disbelief. It takes the narrator a while to write to Sonny, but
eventually he does, and they regain communication with one another after over a year of silence.

Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart, and the reading African Challenge both look at the
consequences and benefits of European colonialism on the Igbo people and African culture. The novel
s main character is Okonkwo, who is the head the Umuofia clan, a Nigerian tribe. One of Okonkwo s
personal mission is to not be like his father, who he viewed as a coward and weak. Okonkwo s
accomplishes this mission by being obsessed with masculinity and viewing feminity in a derogatory
way. Okonkwo s hold over his clan is tested by the infusion of missionaries and along with them
colonialism into Nigeria. The African Challenge also talks about the European missionaries and their
mission to spread Christianity amongst the Igbo people and also about the beliefs that both societies
