How Does Tobacco Advertising Affect Children
Children s Introduction to Tobacco Products
As a result of anti tobacco organizations, there have been laws enacted meant to prevent tobacco
favored media from being viewed or consumed by children in the United States. Much to the chagrin
of anti tobacco organizations, tobacco products continue to be widely consumed not only within the
United States, but also around the world, and tobacco companies continue to produce advertisements
appealing to younger generations. While companies such as Philip
Morris wish to promote the prosperity of their business by attempting to recruit younger smokers,
organizations like Tobacco Free Kids wish to limit the reach of advertisements aimed at younger
audiences in hopes of preventing further smoking deaths. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The passage of the FSPTCA built on the standing tobacco control laws, as well as added important
provisions which banned fruit and candy flavored cigarettes, prevented tobacco sales to youth, put
restrictions on certain tobacco advertisements, and required health warnings on tobacco products
(Campaign). The FSPTCA has been moderately successful in limiting children s access to tobacco
products in the United States, tobacco brands like Marlboro continue to advertise their product in a
manner that is appealing to young adults in other countries where there are fewer limitations on access
and content of advertisements.
Tobacco Free Kids and other anti tobacco companies greatly supported the Family
Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. With the passage of the FSPTCA, the FDA is required
to closely regulate the tobacco industry in the United States to ensure that tobaccorelated products and
media are not easily accessible by minors. The FSPTCA does not police the content of most cigarette
ads beyond the location of such advertisements (adult magazines

Contribution Of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was born on February 17, 1807 in Portland, Maine (Novelist and Prose
Writers). He died at the age of 75 in 1882 after suffering from severe stomach pain. He was buried at
Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts along with his wives. His family was very
influential in the region. His father was a prominent lawyer. His maternal grandfather, Peleg
Wadsworth, held the position of general in the American Revolutionary War and also served as a
member of Congress (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow). Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the most
popular poet in America, shaped his poetry to encourage virtues and to live life happily without giving
up on any situation that life brings. Longfellow attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine
(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow). He graduated college in 1825 and was ranked fourth in his class
(Adnax Publications). He was invited to accept the new Chair of Modern Languages, and he taught at
Bowdoin College and Harvard. While teaching at the colleges, he translated many textbooks in
French, Italian, and Spanish. He knew dozens of languages. He visited Spain, Italy, France, Germany,
and England as his additional three years of study from Bowdoin College. He walked through the
countryside and stayed at small inns. In 1834 he was appointed professor at Harvard and once again
made it to visit Europe (Adnax Publications). His first wife, Mary Potter, accompanied him to
Rotterdam. She had a miscarriage and died.

The Woodland Quarry Park
With poor weather, it was clear that the species that thrived in the wooded areas survived more
effectively as a result of the protection that offered by the woods. Although more mosses and grasses
were present near the quarries, it was obvious that they were much more susceptible to wind, cold, and
rain. With fall in full swing, the vegetation near the quarries changed much sooner than the woodland
vegetation. Species Distribution: Woodland quarries provide a significant habitat for a large number of
species. This park is an excellent place to educate people about the interconnections that exist among
bedrock, overburden, water, plants, and even human activities. George Shurr, Ph.D., Earth Science, St.
Cloud State University (Stearns County Quarry Park and Nature Reserve, Site and Resource Analysis,
15). Many different animals make their homes here, including various types of birds like mallards,
geese, grouse, and swallows; as well as many mammals such as white tailed deer, chipmunks, skunks,
raccoons, foxes and squirrels(figures 2.3). A few types of reptiles, fish and amphibians can also be

Therefore in the fall, squirrels are on the constant hunt for food, hoarding nuts and even digging in
garbage cans, looking for every little bit they can scavenge. Just like the squirrels, deciduous trees are
also gearing up for winter by shedding their leaves to help conserve water. Deer also gear up for
wintering by eating more during the fall months to help build up fat supplies. Deer are crepuscular
which means they are most active during dawn and dusk, which explains why we saw a white tailed
deer when we went at dusk (figure 2.3) It is quite obvious that all species have their own way of
adapting to the land and surviving the harsh

Venus Bust Analysis
For my project, I have recreated a bust of Venus. A bust is a sculpture of a person s head, shoulders,
and chest. This allows you to include very intricate details and helps you achieve a goal in realism.
There were many sculptures of Venus in ancient Rome, including the Venus Genetrix, meaning
Mother Venus in Latin. I chose to create a bust so I could, too, focus on the intricate details, though
my version is very small, it might have been less accurate had I done the Venus Genetrix. Venus busts
like this one have been used for many garden decorations and household decorations in general.
The sculpture I chose to recreate is a bust of Venus. Venus is the goddess of love, prosperity, fertility,
victory, and beauty. Her greek form is Aphrodite. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was actually hard in this way not to find Greek artwork, but since Venus is a Roman goddess, this
was a good choice for me. The Romans didn t believe that a recreation of a work of art was any less
valuable than the first piece of art. We disagree with this today, but they added slight modifications to
their recreations. Roman art liked to recreate Greek art with those slight modifications, like recreating
bronzes (some of which are now lost) in marble. Some variations could be something other than
medium, though. Sometimes the purpose was to add a bit of humor! This added a lot of Roman to
Greek art, which was originally somber and serious. The Romans used a variety of media in their
artwork. Some include marble, painting, mosaic, gems, silver and bronze work, terracottas, and more!
The original bust that I chose to recreate is made of reconstituted resin, but I chose air dry clay to
finish faster and to have a close model to the original bust.
The Roman Republic was also a great year for Roman Art. Lots of art was produced then because of
the many things happening in the republic and in the military. While this idea is not portrayed in the
bust, the equestrian statue honoring a military hero or civic leader was an idea created by the Romans.
Lots of things happened in this period of time, the start and fall of the Roman republic, and the
beginning of the peaceful period of time we know as the Pax

The Impact of Education in European, Asian, and Islamic...
Education is a state controlled manufactory of echoes. Norman Douglas There is much truth to the
quote stated above by Norman Douglas, especially during the 900 1300 when industrialization,
agricultural innovation, international trade, and religious conquest rocked the European, Asian, and
Islamic societies. The quest for unification and cultural/religious spread during this turbulent times
were answered by universities that created men of an educated class. Higher education became the
state and religion controlled medium to reinforce the agenda of established religious leaders and
political authorities. The court Elites and local religious leaders prized education and spend

(Smith, 2012, p. 427) His effort helped him spread religion towards unreached boundaries of the past
through faithful followers and the use of vernacular language to connect with local communities (
(Smith, 2012, p. 428). Like the Deli Sultans, the Song emperor in China was also successful in using
education to spread Neo Confucianism ideas through the Civil Service Exams . Education in various
regions reflected the religious ideas of prominent religious leaders, thus becoming the metaphorical
hand that reached into uncharted territories to enlighten the unenlightened.
More than reaching the uncharted depth with enlightenment of a philosophical idea however, , higher
education also proved to be a powerful tool to spread political unification through propaganda. With
the increase in land territory, there was a growing need to find a point of unification for the cultural
melting pots that submersed society. Religion was used for such task at one point, but as division
began to increase in religious societies like Latin Christendom, higher education became the second
chance at unifying a nation. Charlemagne who sought to unify the land under one right religion,
proudly supported and closely allied with the spread of education of the one true faith through
education. Charlemagne and his predecessors devoted considerable wealth, protection, and emphasis
on Classical learning prompted by propagating the one true faith. (Smith,

Identify The Complex World Of Identity
Identifying the complex world of Identity
Overview
The concept of identity is difficult to define as it is ambiguous. It can be interpreted from many
different perspectives, and environments. In its most basic form it is the way that people see
themselves. This includes one s assumptions about them self as Cliford Geertz would put it, and the
society around them. Furthermore scholarship defines identity as the way people see themselves in the
context of nature, and how people see animate and inanimate aspects of the natural world. (Hoffman,
1998) We live in an all encompassing society however so identity includes all ranges from national,
social, personal, environmental, religious, and even political identities.

homes, and became trapped in the notion that they became refugees. They were trapped inside of no
mans land outside of their own country, and it gave the existing territory whose border they were
enclosed in the authority to treat them as lesser human beings. Over many generations this led the
identity of the enclave residents to be forever tarnished. Some never had the chance to learn how to
read or write. They were deprived of basic human rights, medical care, and government subsidies and
so on. Collectively the identity in which all these enclave members formerly had which tied them to
their place of birth was completely taken away from them. (Johnson,

What Is The Literary Analysis Of Once Upon A Time
Literary Analysis
Once upon a time, there were two women. Both were beautiful, but one was weak, the other was a
warrior. In ABC s Once Upon a Time, Rapunzel has isolated herself in a tower as a method to escape
responsibility, eventually being found by Prince David. Although she was screaming out to get his
attention, she then expresses that she does not want to leave the tower. In Rupert Sanders Snow White
and the Huntsman, the character of Snow White commanded her own army to defeat the evil queen,
who sought to kill her. She fights not with her looks, but with her strength both mental and physical.
The character of Snow White was portrayed as dauntless in the modern day movie directed by Rupert
Sanders, Snow White and the Huntsman, but the depiction of Rapunzel in another fairy tale film
remake, ABC s Once Upon a Time, was incompetent and dependant.
In Once Upon a Time, Rapunzel is scared. She is stuck with the memory of her brother, who drowned
trying to save her from a river that she was warned not to play in. She is next in line for the throne
now, and she is frightened by the prospect of responsibility. When Prince James comes across the
tower where she is trapped, she tells him of a witch who won t let her leave. James tells her that she
must defeat the witch, as it is really just her, but she persists that No, I can t. ( The Tower Once Upon a
Time). She doesn t believe in her own ability to face her fear and she sees herself as weak. She

Companies Don t Understand China, Says Kpmg
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This essay will mainly talk about an article taken from The Australian titled, Companies don t
understand China, says KPMG . The main challenge faced by Australia in doing business with China
is the cultural barrier, particularly the language difference. Additionally, Australia also has limited
experience with and information on Chinese business customs, in comparison with other countries.
Besides analysing the issues highlighted in the article, factors that also led to these issues will also be
discussed. This essay will link some relevant theories learned from International Management
subjects, such as Cross Cultural Communications, Managing across Culture, and Conflicts of Cross
Cultural Communications. Strategies such as learning Chinese language and culture, joining the
KPMG China Confidence program and increasing awareness of the ways China prefers to conduct
business will also be discussed. In the last section of this essay, conclusion will be given.
China has one of world s largest populations and, in the last few decades, the world s fastest economic
growth. Large numbers of other major Western countries compete to invest and collaborate with
China. However, due to the cultural differences and language barriers between Eastern and Western
countries, issues often arise and can lead to conflicts if cautionary steps are not taken. This essay will

The little round scar on the upper arm is the scar from being immunized for little pox. Before 1970s,
this smallpox counter acting agent was ordinary. It used live Vaccinia disease as a piece of solicitation
to trigger a sheltered response that would guarantee people against the perilous Variola contamination
that brought on smallpox.
After the vaccination, bothers outlines at the inoculation zone, crusted over, and recovered in a couple

Essay Jack the Ripper
AP English IV
Book Report
Jack the Ripper
Jack the Ripper was a notorious serial killer, whom some believe never even existed at all.
From August to November 1888, Jack the Ripper terrorized the East End of London by being
responsible for the death and mutilation of at least seven female prostitutes. The destitute East End is
also known as the White Chapel district of London, England. A few of the prostitutes were targeted as
they were leaving brothels in and around the White Chapel district. Jack the Ripper seemed to be
targeting drunken women who had no sense of time or what they were doing (Jack the Ripper).
Jack the Ripper is just a name given to an unidentified late 19th century murderer. No one actually
knows who this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rest of the responsibility lies with the Ripper. He may have been a sexual serial killer of a type all
too common in the 1990 s, but he was also bent on terrifying a city and making the whole world take
notice of him by leaving his horribly mutilated victims in plain sight. Lastly, the Ripper was never
caught and it is the mysteries surrounding this killer that both add to the romance of the story and
creating an intellectual puzzle that people still want to solve ( Ebsco host).
It is unclear just how many women the Ripper killed. It is generally accepted that he killed five,
though some have written that he murdered only four while others say seven or more. The public,
press, and even many junior police officers believed that the Ripper was responsible for nine slayings.
The five that are generally accepted are:
1. Mary Ann (Polly) Nichols murdered Friday, August 31 1888.
2. Annie Chapman, murdered Saturday , September 8, 1888.
3. Elizabeth Stride, murdered Sunday, September 30, 1888.
4. Catharine Eddowes, also murdered that same date.
5. Mary Jane (Marie Jeanette) Kelly, murdered Friday, November 9, 1888. Besides these five there are
good reasons to believe that the first victim was really Martha Tabram who was murdered Tuesday,
august 7, 1888, and there are important considerations for questioning whether Stride was a Ripper
victim. As to the actual number of women that the Ripper killed, there is no simple

Computer Industry And The World Of Mobile Phones
BY:DONTE. NETHERLANDS TECH .VS. USA TECH period3 Think different. It was more than an
advertising slogan. It was a manifesto, and with it, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs upended the
computer industry, the music industry and the world of mobile phones. The digital visionary s next
plan was to bring radical change to schools and textbook publishers, but he died of cancer before he
could do it
Some of the ideas that may have occurred to Jobs are now on display in the Netherlands. Eleven Steve
Jobs schools will open in August, with Amsterdam among the cities that will be hosting such a facility.
Some 1,000 children aged four to 12 will attend the schools, without notebooks, books or backpacks.
Each of them, however, will have his or her own iPad.
There will be no blackboards, chalk or classrooms, homeroom teachers, formal classes, lesson plans,
seating charts, pens, teachers teaching from the front of the room, schedules, parent teacher meetings,
grades, recess bells, fixed school days and school vacations. If a child would rather play on his or her
iPad instead of learning, it ll be okay. And the children will choose what they wish to learn based on
what they happen to be curious about.
Preparations are already underway in Breda, a town near Rotterdam where one of the schools is to be
located. Gertjan Kleinpaste, the 53 year old principal of the facility, is aware that his iPad school on
Schorsmolenstraat could soon become a destination for envious but

Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo (Comparative Essay)
Never before has there been such dissent in the soccer world. Ask any fan, any expert, anyone who
their favorite is, who they believe is better or simply who they prefer, and you will never, ever reach
consensus. It is the never ending argument that speaks volumes and goes beyond the sport. When the
best Spanish teams, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, meet, the biggest subplot of the match is Lionel
Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo. But the question remains, who is better? You can reach the answer to this
question by comparing the two players Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo based on shooting and
goal scoring capabilities, and mentality. Goalkeepers constantly have to stop rockets that come their
way, but when it comes to shooting, Lionel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cristiano Ronaldo scores far more goals with his head, not afraid to go in where it hurts. He manages
to apply great power to his headers and undoubtly is always going to be more effective in the air than
Messi. This is due to the fact that Ronaldo stands at 6 1 while Lionel Messi stands at 5 6 ½ . Messi
scored the memorable second goal against Manchester United, one of England s best teams, in the
2009 Champions league final with his head. But that was the exception to the rule. Most of La Pulga
Atomica s (The Atomic Flea) goals come from his left foot. Lionel Messi has become a lethal intruder
in the goalkeeper s area. If someone were to tell you that they ve seen him gently push in 40 goals
with one touch kicks inside the goalkeeper s area the past two years, they wouldn t be exaggerating.
When the play needs collected finishing, Lionel is right there to lightly push it home every time.
Lastly, a player s mentality can make them or break them. It influences so much that it changes the
way a player acts. Messi s mentality, suprisingly, isn t the best around. When his under pressure, it
seems like the weight of the world lies on his shoulders and slows him down. This happens often
when he plays with his national team, Argentina. The fact that you ll sometimes find yourself asking
Where s Messi? is proof enough. His performance in the World Cup will never reveal his true
potential. Cristiano wants to win. Badly. He wants to score and shine

Political Influence Of The Tea Party Movement
There are four kinds of significant political actors , Political Party, Social Movement, Interest Group,

The Nuremberg Trials Rewritten Essay
How does a human judge another human for a crime that could have very well have been done by the
person judging the convicted person if he/she were in their shoes? No one understands what truly goes
on in someone else s mind. For that reason alone judging one another is wrong. The year world war II
finally ended, a courtroom in Nuremberg, Germany, became the scene of what would be called the
greatest trials of the world (www.pbs.org) . When the Nuremberg trials began Nazi s were judged on
what role they played during Hitler s reign. Though, instead of the German and Jewish citizens
judging the Nazi s it was the Americans. The major discussion about the topic is whether they are truly
guilty or not. If people have looked at the additional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What s worse is that the trials were not like regular trials. The soviets wanted speedy trials;
prosecutors would simply outline charges and judges hand down sentences. Robert Jackson insisted
there be time for the accused to defend themselves... he reminded everyone the United states held
most of the Nazis to be tried and the evidence to be used against them (www.pbs.org). This held for
two questions why did the Americans have the most is say in a case that didn t really involve them and
why is it that the Soviet Union wanted the trials to end quickly? Were the Americans trying to cover
something up or were they trying to be good Samaritans? What secret was the Soviet Union trying to
hide by not using the evidence and just sentencing people? A man once said, Conviction was by no
means certain. You must put no man on trial, if you are not willing to see him freed if not proven
guilty. If we want to shoot Germans as a matter of policy, let it be done by such. But don t hide the

The Mexico Legal System
A legal system is a process or a procedure used to interpret and enforce the law. It leads to the process
of elaborating the responsibilities and rights in different ways. There are three major legal systems
found in the world: religious law, common law and civil law. A major component is the jury system
which involves the process of determining the general facts in a lawsuit (Raz, 2010). A good example
would include a tax system which is a legal system for collecting and assessing taxes, whereas an
electoral one is involved in making choices that are democratic. Mexico has had a rich journey in the
evolution of its constitution due to reasons that will be discussed below. The paper will therefore look

Cultural Differences And Cultural Beliefs Of The Conflict...
In this essay, I will discuss why the conflict between Europeans and Native Americans was inevitable
based on cultural differences and interactions with one another. I will explain why greed played a
major role in the conflict between both groups, based on the information provided by two authors with
differing opinions. The first author, believed that conflict was inevitable. The author Kevin in his
article, Peaceable Kingdom Lost: The Paxton Boys and the Destruction of Williams Penn s Holy
Experiment , describes the conflicts between a group of racists men known as the Paxton Boys, and
the beliefs of a Peaceable Kingdom lead by William Penn. In his essay, Kevin speaks about how
William Penn respected the Indians; however, the Paxton Boys did not. Kevin points out on: Page 179

The Long Case Clock Hit Nine
The long case clock struck nine, Bing Bong, Bing Bong . As I approached the narrow staircase, the
sunset glistened through the partially opened lunette, a cool crisp autumn breeze gently ruffled my
hair. I grasped the railing taking my first step up the unsteady staircase, my hand entangled in
cobwebs. At the top of the stairs stood my great grandfathers long case clock. The mechanical gears
could be heard sliding against each other, the rhythmic ticking of the pendulum comforting. As I made
my ways to the top, the sunset reflected off the pendulum, shinning a vibrant ray of light off my
grandmother s vintage wallpaper and down the hall to the guest room. My eyes become weary, the
rhythmic chorus of the clock became mesmerizing filling my heart with sounds of connection,
comfort, and security. Nightfall had approached. I opened the large double hinged pine window that
was perfectly centered in the middle of the guest room and climb into the old brass bed. My head fell
into the softness of the pillow, my body stretches releasing all my worries and stresses from the day.
The warmth of my grandmother s hand knitted blanket grasps my body from interacting with the
psychical world. I lay there and listen to the sound of the leaves rustling outside the window, and in
the distance I can hear my grandfather s clock Tick,Tick . I close my eyes, unable to see the outside

The Rehabilitation Of Stroke Patients
Brain Plasticity: How is This Evidenced from the Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients?
The essay will look at brain plasticity in the context of brain injury, specifically that which occurs
during a stroke and discuss how it is possible for regions of the brain to reconstruct to serve new
functions, which were previously allocated to other regions in the brain. The effectiveness of the
rehabilitation methods which use the idea of brain plasticity to help stroke patients regain previously
lost functions, will also be considered.
Brain plasticity is the ability of the brain to change and develop throughout life or with training. This
occurs when the neurons make new connections and the brain reorganises. There are 3 main situations
in which the brain changes: the beginning of life to organise itself, when you have brain injury, to
compensate for damage caused, and then throughout adulthood as we learn new skills.
Genetics only cause the brain to develop to a certain point, the rest of the brains development depends
on life experiences. The brain is known as being plastic , it can mould to what is happening in our
environment, be that drugs, hormones, relationships or diet. The developing brain is more sensitive to
change than the older brain, and the same experience can have different effects on the brain at
different ages.
The brain is capable of reallocating brain functions to different areas and forming new connections
between neurons. The two different types of plasticity

Life At Home Recovering Before It Is Safe For Resume Work
Many times after injuries or medical procedures, one is required to spend time at home recovering
before it is safe to resume work. In the Army, this recovery leave is non chargeable and a physician
decides the length of recovery. The first form of leave is called quarters and is typically 24 to 36
hours. Quarters is typically prescribed to soldiers that have infectious diseases such as the flu. When a
Soldier is given quarters they must stay at home in order to mitigate the spread of the disease and to
allow them to rest and recover. The second form of medical leave is called convalescence leave.

Probably one of the biggest aspects of the Army s Total Compensation plan is the free medical
coverage provided to all soldiers. I cannot think of another organization that offers a totally cost free
medical package for its employees. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the leadership in the Army is very
supportive of soldiers attending medical appointments in order to maintain a high level of medical
readiness, which is a critical aspect of the Army being able to conduct its mission. Soldiers do not see
a physician when they are injured or ill initially. The first line of medical screening includes unit
medical personnel, which includes medics and the unit physician s assistant. If it is determined that the
soldier will require treatment or diagnosis from a physician they are then referred to a doctor. This is a
key way that the Army saves money on its no cost medical coverage. By not having a soldier be seen
by a physician immediately and having a lower ranking medic, who gets paid much less, conduct the
initial assessment and possibly remedy the situation, the Army save substantial money. Of course, if a
soldier is critically injured or ill they can always go to the military installation emergency room for
treatment or call 911 for assistance. Depending on the nature of the injury or illness, and whether or
not the appropriate physician or specialist is available at the military installation, a soldier

The Salem Witch Trials
Introduction Throughout the town of Salem in 1695, Puritans thrived off of the word of God and his
great doings. In this paper readers will begin to understand the exact events that had led up to the
accusations against the townspeople of Salem for witchcraft. Puritans possessed strong feelings of
vengeance around the time the accusations began. They would accuse anyone even slightly suspicious
of anything other than loving God and being pure which was correct to live as such back then. Many
innocent people hung back then for being accused of witchcraft. What really started the suspicion in
the first place though? Who decided that witchcraft was the correct form of language for such an act?

Social And Political Views Of Democracy
Democracy offers people the chance to be involved citizens rather than unreceptive subordinates.
However, this right doesn t come unchallenged. Citizens are required to assess a broad range of
political subjects (such as candidates, parties, and policies) and then combine and simplify their
likings in a way that allows them to choose on voting decisions. So, how are these challenges met? In
the United States, some citizens are conservative Republics, some are liberal Democrats, and others
fall in between or outside the two. Recent studies have proposed that these recognitions play an
important part in voting behavior and political perception. Recently, however, more studies have
accumulated advocating for two meager assumptions in regards to this study: that liberal/conservative
identifications are bipolar in meaning and that underlying this bipolarity is cognitive meaning based
on political issues (Conover, Feldman, 265). These variances in political positions are called political
attitudes, and fall on a spectrum between extremely liberal and extremely conservative. Broadly
speaking, this spectrum distinguishes what someone believes about social issues and governments role
in society. These beliefs are formed by a variation of aspects, which can include family, gender,
religion, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and region. Even things like behavior, core ideals and
values, and ideology can affect people s political attitudes.

The Coins Of Claudius, Faustina I, And Marcus Aurelius
The coin types may be considered political from the start, for the ubiquitous references to family and

The Aureus of Divus Claudius was struck under Nero after Claudius death in 54 B.C.E. During
Claudius reign, he proclaimed his intention to follow the policies of Augustus, and restored stability
after the follies of Caligula. He received the title of pater patriae in January 42 B.C.E. Nero was
Claudius stepson through Agrippina, and he was eventually adopted after Agrippina convinced
Claudius to pick Nero over Claudius own son Britannicus. By representing his adopted father, Nero
gained a smoother transition when he took over. The obverse of this coin says DIVUS CLAUDIUS
AUGUSTUS or the divine emperor Claudius along with a portrait of Claudius. This was an important
power distinction for Nero to make, as he would become the son of a divine figure. The portrait of
Claudius shows him as a mature man with wrinkles and a laurel crown. This would have been how
Claudius was represented in life as well as an eternal middle aged figure. One of the characteristic
features of Claudius shown on this coin is his retreating Claudian chin. The reverse side shows a
quadriga carrying a funeral wagon. Above the wagon are statuary depictions of a divine figure with
wings controlling four additional horses. This imagery highlights Claudius divine nature, when he
became a divus after his death. The Sestertius of Diva Faustina I was struck under Antoninus Pius

went on to become a teacher, while the other pursued his dreams to become a musician and finds
himself in prison due to drug use. The story begins with the narrator finding out about Sonny s arrest.
It s easy to see his shock and almost disbelief. It takes the narrator a while to write to Sonny, but
eventually he does, and they regain communication with one another after over a year of silence.
Sonny is released from prison and goes to stay with the narrator and his family. He is staying clean,
and he continues to pursue his dreams of making music. The narrator also finally sees that Sonny is
very talented and that music really was his calling. The two brothers are very different, though they
grew up in the same setting. They have different ways of escaping Harlem, they have different
aspirations and goals, and they have different personalities and views on life.
From the beginning of the story, it is clear that the brothers have different views of Harlem and how to
become successful. The oldest of the two, the narrator, who remains unnamed, became successful after
returning from war and became a teacher. He wed and had a family. Sonny, the younger brother, was
successful in a sense because he got out of Harlem, but at the same sense, he fell into drug use and
wound up in prison, trapped behind bars. The narrator sees the drug use and the poverty in Harlem,
but he chooses to

Dharma Bums
Erica Schlecht Professor George Dorsty English 223 2 April 2013 A True Dharma Bum One of the
most powerful quotes in the entire book that I feel sums up what it is to be a dharma bum, I felt free
and therefore I was free . This quote from Ray Smith shows that a dharma bum must always believe in
oneself and take the journey to becoming a Dharma bum from within. Although one can learn from
fellow dharma bums such as the Saint Teresa bum, Han Shan, and Japhy the ultimate truth of being
Dharma bum comes from within. Saint Teresa Bum is the first genuine dharma bum that Ray Smith,
the main character is Dharma Bums has ever met. The book starts off with Smith jumping into a box
car where he runs into the Saint Teresa bum. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter 24 the same idea is brought up, Maybe I ll be rich and work and make a lot of money and
live in a big house. But a minute later: And who wants to enslave himself to a lot of all that, though?
(Chapter 24). Jack Kerouac s writing about this shows that dharma bums do not need to fit into the
mold of working society to be happy. At the same time a dharma bum is not one that sits around doing
nothing, but one who constantly searches for oneself in nature and the things around him. This is
shown in another quote from the book, by God, you re right, all those sedentary bums sitting around
on pillows hearing the cry of a triumphant mountain smasher, they don t deserve it (Chapter 12).
Smith discusses what he has learned from Japhy here, I realized I had indeed learned from Japhy how
to cast off the evils for the world and the city and find my true pure soul, just as long as I had a decent
pack on my back. I got back to my camp and spread the sleeping bag and thanked the Lord for all He
was giving me (156). Japhy has taught Smith that the Lord gives us all that we need and to look within
the find true Dharma Bum peace. Being a Dharma Bum is not something that can be defined as one
particular thing. Following certain procedures such as disposing of worldly possessions to look within
and find oneself is a good step, but cannot truly define one s journey. The Dharma Bums that Smith
learns from, the

European Colonialism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart, and the reading African Challenge both look at the
consequences and benefits of European colonialism on the Igbo people and African culture. The novel
s main character is Okonkwo, who is the head the Umuofia clan, a Nigerian tribe. One of Okonkwo s
personal mission is to not be like his father, who he viewed as a coward and weak. Okonkwo s
accomplishes this mission by being obsessed with masculinity and viewing feminity in a derogatory
way. Okonkwo s hold over his clan is tested by the infusion of missionaries and along with them
colonialism into Nigeria. The African Challenge also talks about the European missionaries and their
mission to spread Christianity amongst the Igbo people and also about the beliefs that both societies
had about eachother. Through the incorporation of the Igbo language throughout his novel, and the
interactions of the Europeans with the Igbo people and their customs presented in both the novel and
African Challenge, we can see both the benefits and consequences that European colonialism had on
the Igbo society and African culture.
Both readings highlight how the Igbo people s insistence on sorcery and ancestral spirits leads to
conflict between the Europeans and the Igbo people. The first instance of conflict that arises in the
novel, is when a missionary to convert a village woman to Christianity, and accidentally kills an
ancestral spirit. This leads to the villagers burning the missionary s huts. The

Reflection Paper On Law Of Nature
Reflection paper questions Locke
There is a need to understand the law of nature because law of nature is a perfect law of equality,
peace, no superiority of one person over another and absolute freedom for everyone. Nature provides
human beings with a law by which everyone is equal, everyone got equal freedom, equal rights, and
no one can dominate other by using the claims of jurisdiction or autonomy. It is very important to
understand the law of nature because it provides a perfect example of how a peaceful and orderly
world should. In a peaceful and orderly world, there is no violation of law, if someone breaks the law
he/she will be punished equally and in this way, every human being will enjoy maximized freedom.
In the law of nature there is only one supreme power who is controlling nature and every living thing
on nature will follow the set rules of harmony, peace and cooperation. They all shouldstay in the
natural law to progress and in that way, not only nature will be preserved but human beings can also
live in harmony. The concept is important because political power is a concept that is invented to run
the states and communities in orderly manner and to provide freedom, equality and justice to
everyone. A perfect political power will be that power that ensures law of nature is to be followed in
any case and thus to understand political power, one must learn the basics of law of nature. All people
are equal in the state of nature because there is only one supreme being and all human beings are equal
with equal rights to prosper and live. There are no issues of jurisdiction or supremacy of one person
over another because law of nature has provided every human being with equal opportunities.
According to Locke the main reason we cannot harm each other is that because all human beings are
created equals thus no one is superior as compare to other and if we will harm another equal being we
are challenging the authority of sovereign creator who gave freedom to everyone but we are enjoying
our freedom but snatching others. He gave the example of like we use animals, because human beings
use animals against their will, they use them for money and profits and do not care about their rights
or freedom

  • 2. How Does Tobacco Advertising Affect Children Children s Introduction to Tobacco Products As a result of anti tobacco organizations, there have been laws enacted meant to prevent tobacco favored media from being viewed or consumed by children in the United States. Much to the chagrin of anti tobacco organizations, tobacco products continue to be widely consumed not only within the United States, but also around the world, and tobacco companies continue to produce advertisements appealing to younger generations. While companies such as Philip Morris wish to promote the prosperity of their business by attempting to recruit younger smokers, organizations like Tobacco Free Kids wish to limit the reach of advertisements aimed at younger audiences in hopes of preventing further smoking deaths. ... The passage of the FSPTCA built on the standing tobacco control laws, as well as added important provisions which banned fruit and candy flavored cigarettes, prevented tobacco sales to youth, put restrictions on certain tobacco advertisements, and required health warnings on tobacco products (Campaign). Although more mosses and grasses were present near the quarries, it was obvious that they were much more susceptible to wind, cold, and rain. With fall in full swing, the vegetation near the quarries changed much sooner than the woodland vegetation. Species Distribution: Woodland quarries provide a significant habitat for a large number of species. This park is an excellent place to educate people about the interconnections that exist among bedrock, overburden, water, plants, and even human activities. • 5. Venus Bust Analysis For my project, I have recreated a bust of Venus. A bust is a sculpture of a person s head, shoulders, and chest. This allows you to include very intricate details and helps you achieve a goal in realism. There were many sculptures of Venus in ancient Rome, including the Venus Genetrix, meaning Mother Venus in Latin. I chose to create a bust so I could, too, focus on the intricate details, though my version is very small, it might have been less accurate had I done the Venus Genetrix. Venus busts like this one have been used for many garden decorations and household decorations in general. The sculpture I chose to recreate is a bust of Venus. Venus is the goddess of love, prosperity, fertility, victory, and beauty. Her greek form is Aphrodite. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was actually hard in this way not to find Greek artwork, but since Venus is a Roman goddess, this was a good choice for me. The Romans didn t believe that a recreation of a work of art was any less valuable than the first piece of art. We disagree with this today, but they added slight modifications to their recreations. Roman art liked to recreate Greek art with those slight modifications, like recreating bronzes (some of which are now lost) in marble. Some variations could be something other than medium, though. Sometimes the purpose was to add a bit of humor! This added a lot of Roman to Greek art, which was originally somber and serious. The Romans used a variety of media in their artwork. Some include marble, painting, mosaic, gems, silver and bronze work, terracottas, and more! The original bust that I chose to recreate is made of reconstituted resin, but I chose air dry clay to finish faster and to have a close model to the original bust. The Roman Republic was also a great year for Roman Art. Lots of art was produced then because of the many things happening in the republic and in the military. While this idea is not portrayed in the bust, the equestrian statue honoring a military hero or civic leader was an idea created by the Romans. Lots of things happened in this period of time, the start and fall of the Roman republic, and the beginning of the peaceful period of time we know as the Pax ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Norman Douglas There is much truth to the quote stated above by Norman Douglas, especially during the 900 1300 when industrialization, agricultural innovation, international trade, and religious conquest rocked the European, Asian, and Islamic societies. The quest for unification and cultural/religious spread during this turbulent times were answered by universities that created men of an educated class. Like the Deli Sultans, the Song emperor in China was also successful in using education to spread Neo Confucianism ideas through the Civil Service Exams . Education in various regions reflected the religious ideas of prominent religious leaders, thus becoming the metaphorical hand that reached into uncharted territories to enlighten the unenlightened. More than reaching the uncharted depth with enlightenment of a philosophical idea however, , higher education also proved to be a powerful tool to spread political unification through propaganda. With the increase in land territory, there was a growing need to find a point of unification for the cultural melting pots that submersed society. Religion was used for such task at one point, but as division began to increase in religious societies like Latin Christendom, higher education became the second chance at unifying a nation. In ABC s Once Upon a Time, Rapunzel has isolated herself in a tower as a method to escape responsibility, eventually being found by Prince David. Although she was screaming out to get his attention, she then expresses that she does not want to leave the tower. In Rupert Sanders Snow White and the Huntsman, the character of Snow White commanded her own army to defeat the evil queen, who sought to kill her. She fights not with her looks, but with her strength both mental and physical. The character of Snow White was portrayed as dauntless in the modern day movie directed by Rupert Sanders, Snow White and the Huntsman, but the depiction of Rapunzel in another fairy tale film remake, ABC s Once Upon a Time, was incompetent and dependant. Lastly, the Ripper was never caught and it is the mysteries surrounding this killer that both add to the romance of the story and creating an intellectual puzzle that people still want to solve ( Ebsco host). It is unclear just how many women the Ripper killed. It is generally accepted that he killed five, though some have written that he murdered only four while others say seven or more. Messi scored the memorable second goal against Manchester United, one of England s best teams, in the 2009 Champions league final with his head. But that was the exception to the rule. In this essay, I will discuss why the conflict between Europeans and Native Americans was inevitable based on cultural differences and interactions with one another. I will explain why greed played a major role in the conflict between both groups, based on the information provided by two authors with differing opinions. The first author, believed that conflict was inevitable. The author Kevin in his article, Peaceable Kingdom Lost: The Paxton Boys and the Destruction of Williams Penn s Holy Experiment , describes the conflicts between a group of racists men known as the Paxton Boys, and the beliefs of a Peaceable Kingdom lead by William Penn. • 29. The Rehabilitation Of Stroke Patients Brain Plasticity: How is This Evidenced from the Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients? The essay will look at brain plasticity in the context of brain injury, specifically that which occurs during a stroke and discuss how it is possible for regions of the brain to reconstruct to serve new functions, which were previously allocated to other regions in the brain. The effectiveness of the rehabilitation methods which use the idea of brain plasticity to help stroke patients regain previously lost functions, will also be considered. Brain plasticity is the ability of the brain to change and develop throughout life or with training. This occurs when the neurons make new connections and the brain reorganises. There are 3 main situations in which the brain changes: the beginning of life to organise itself, when you have brain injury, to compensate for damage caused, and then throughout adulthood as we learn new skills. Genetics only cause the brain to develop to a certain point, the rest of the brains development depends on life experiences. The brain is known as being plastic , it can mould to what is happening in our environment, be that drugs, hormones, relationships or diet. The developing brain is more sensitive to change than the older brain, and the same experience can have different effects on the brain at different ages. The brain is capable of reallocating brain functions to different areas and forming new connections between neurons. The two different types of plasticity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Probably one of the biggest aspects of the Army s Total Compensation plan is the free medical coverage provided to all soldiers. I cannot think of another organization that offers a totally cost free medical package for its employees. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the leadership in the Army is very supportive of soldiers attending medical appointments in order to maintain a high level of medical readiness, which is a critical aspect of the Army being able to conduct its mission. Soldiers do not see a physician when they are injured or ill initially. The first line of medical screening includes unit medical personnel, which includes medics and the unit physician s assistant. If it is determined that the soldier will require treatment or diagnosis from a physician they are then referred to a doctor. This is a key way that the Army saves money on its no cost medical coverage. By not having a soldier be seen by a physician immediately and having a lower ranking medic, who gets paid much less, conduct the initial assessment and possibly remedy the situation, the Army save substantial money. • 36. Social And Political Views Of Democracy Democracy offers people the chance to be involved citizens rather than unreceptive subordinates. However, this right doesn t come unchallenged. Citizens are required to assess a broad range of political subjects (such as candidates, parties, and policies) and then combine and simplify their likings in a way that allows them to choose on voting decisions. So, how are these challenges met? In the United States, some citizens are conservative Republics, some are liberal Democrats, and others fall in between or outside the two. Recent studies have proposed that these recognitions play an important part in voting behavior and political perception. Recently, however, more studies have accumulated advocating for two meager assumptions in regards to this study: that liberal/conservative identifications are bipolar in meaning and that underlying this bipolarity is cognitive meaning based on political issues (Conover, Feldman, 265). These variances in political positions are called political attitudes, and fall on a spectrum between extremely liberal and extremely conservative. Broadly speaking, this spectrum distinguishes what someone believes about social issues and governments role in society. These beliefs are formed by a variation of aspects, which can include family, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and region. Jack Kerouac s writing about this shows that dharma bums do not need to fit into the mold of working society to be happy. At the same time a dharma bum is not one that sits around doing nothing, but one who constantly searches for oneself in nature and the things around him.
