Unit 3 Deployment
My experience includes three deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and
one deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). This is an account of the
first few days of my third deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a Sergeant, I
deployed to OIF in 2007 with Darkhorse Troop, 6 8 CAV, 3 1 AD. My platoon was composed of
twenty two scouts, a medic, a forward observer (FO), and eight HMMWV s. We received eight
Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAPs) after six months of the fifteen month
deployment. I was a team leader in my platoon s Bravo section. Our squadron was first assigned
to FOB Falcon. After four months, we were relocated to COP Fish (later renamed COP Derby).
COP Fish was located 10 miles south of FOB Falcon, down a road that was known as Chicken Run.
The COP was surrounded by vast amounts of mud huts, empty fish ponds, and several chicken huts,
where insurgents were known to conduct random attacks on United Statessoldiers. The insurgents
in the area were known to use both direct and indirect fire. Our squadron was tasked to clear all
IEDS, UXOs, and roads within the AO. All of our troop missions worked toward clearing the area
and, occasionally, cataloging the mud huts. Our platoon... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We had a wounded soldier, but no one was killed. We continued to work with EOD from
different services for the rest of the deployment. My gunner recovered from his wounds, but
never returned to Iraq. I continued to take the lead of the section regardless of my vehicle being
hit. SSG Thomas couldn t deal with being on patrol so they moved him to S 3. The soldiers
were relieved when SSG Thomas was moved to S 3. SFC Lackey seemed bothered be the fact
that a Sergeant lead out and not the SSG that he had designated as point man. That is why he
removed SSG Thomas from the platoon. In place of SSG Thomas, he got another SSG from S 3
that wanted to be out on

Reducing You Personal Usage
Reducing your Personal Energy Use
Reducing your Personal Energy Use
Ever since the human settlements and their population place pressure on the environment through
the increasing demand for water, energy and land, and also through the production of wastes that
includes greenhouse gas emission. These impacts can also be regard as direct, through the use of
water, energy, and land, or indirect, through the production and distribution of goods and services
that household consumes. There is evidence that our way of living and the direction of the
development in today s society are not considered ecologically sustainable. This essay is about
exploring how we can use creative thinking to find a sustainable solution to a problem that we are ...

The minus side to reducing your personal energy use is the, loss of your luxuries eg; sitting in the
warmth or cool air of your heater and the AC, can t be a couch potato any longer, have to drive
around towns smartly and efficiently to save planet, eating less meat because agriculture industries
produces a lot of methane, hanging your clothes out to dry in the sun rather than simply using an
dryer. Finally the interesting things are using renewable sources to produce energy at home,
choosing the highest efficient home appliances competitions between the electric appliances
industries to come up with the efficient appliances, recycling products, trying telecommunication
for working purposes rather than going to work and wasting fuel energy. This was an example of
how PMI can be a useful creative thinking tool for generating ideas. Likewise there is another
creative thinking tool that could be used for generating ideas is problem reversal.
Problem reversal technique is explained by Schaper and Volery (2011) as, The action of viewing a
problem from opposite angle by asking questions such as what if we did

Chapter 1 Review Questions
1. What is the difference between a hypothesis and a theory? (Pages 2 3)
a. When you make a hypothesis, you have an idea that could potentially explain a phenomenon. A
theory, on the other hand, is a hypothesis that has withstood experimental tests completed by
numerous scientists independently. (Slater)
3. How are constellations useful to astronomers? How many stars are not part of any constellation?
(Page 5 8)
a. Constellations can be useful to astronomers because the asterisms located in the constellations
helps astronomers navigate the sky.

What is the difference between a sidereal month and a synodic month? Which is longer? Why?
(Page 20 21)
a. The time it takes for the Moon to complete one full orbit around the Earth is called a sidereal
month. (Slater)
b. The time it takes the Moon to complete one full cycle (New Moon to New Moon) is called a
synodic month. (Slater)
c. The synodic month is longer than the sidereal month. This is because the Earth is orbiting the
Sun while the Moon goes through its phases. (Slater)
19. What is the difference between the umbra and the penumbra of a shadow? (Page 22)
a. The umbra is the darkest part of a shadow whereas the penumbra is the portion of a shadow in
which only a part of the light source is covered . (Slater)
20. Why doesn t a lunar eclipse occur at every full moon and a solar eclipse at every new moon?
(Page 21 22)
a. An eclipse requires that (in the case of Lunar and Solar one) the Moon, Sun, and Earth align
perfectly. However, the Earth and the Moon do not share the same orbital plane which causes
eclipse to be infrequent.

Man Carrying Thing By Wallace Stevens
September 11,2001 was one of the saddest days in American history. As everyone knows,
September 11, 2001 was the day that shook the world. It didn t only affect the US but everyone
around the world. The people in those buildings were not only Americans but people of every
nationality. I don t think that one person knew exactly how to react or think. This tragedy is
something that should have never happened from the start. However, it did. Most of America can
tell you that they remember exactly what they were doing and where they were on September
11th. Unfortunately, for kids my age, we were just too young to remember the devastating events
that happened on this day. Even though it may seem as though many people lost their lives in
these tragic events, we have to remember that hundreds and thousands were saved. However,
weeks after thousands were estimated dead. What is the worst about this event is that a lot the
workers or visitors who died had been at or above the point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This ties into the Jumpers sculpture because she used paper to represent the people. We all
know that paper did not really fall from the Twin Towers, it was people. So for that reason we
should not let the fact that she has paper take away from the real picture. In the poem Man
carrying thing we can see that Wallace Stevens is basically saying take your focus from the
secondary to the primary. With the Twin Towers, nobody wanted to accept that it happened and
people jumped to their death but we had to realize and accept it. In conclusion, we can see that
Melinda Hoffman used many objects and symbolism to represent a terrible tragedy that happened.
If you take the time and observe, modernism is all over this sculpture. From the everyday objects
used to represent the Twin Towers, to the paper being used to represent people. We must focus of
the primary objective and not the

In typical fashion, some of Klein s newly gained notoriety went to his head and in turn, shined
through his works of art. For example, in his article True Blue featured in The New Yorker,
Peter Schjeldahl mentioned that Still, some quality of ego transcending devotion persists
through all Klein s work. Klein is very confident and fearless even when the work its not
complex and leans toward minimalist. After several months of exhibitions he makes a shift in
his style of art that has become known as his Blue Period (January 1957). Blue Monochrome
was his first real success. It s notoriety came with a show based around his new color in question,
International Klein Blue . What makes his new color interesting is that he actually created with
the help of a chemist. Monochrome Blue has no trace of line or imagery, it simply surrounds the
viewer in color, provoking meditation and deep thought. This notion of meditation and deep
thought may be a reference to the sky, the Holy Ghost, or even Mary s robe which was often
depicted as vibrant blue in Renaissance paintings. The idea to reference art history was a very
contemporary and post modern idea showing him ahead of the times. Klein s blue period was seen

Alexis De Tocqueville s Political Writings
In 1776, the United States Declaration of Independence swore to life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness for all those that live in America. In 1787, the Constitution of the United States granted
the security of the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity . It s blatantly obvious that
the history of America, up until Alexis de Tocqueville wrote Democracy in America, had any of
those attributes been granted wholly. Liberty is relatable to the State of Nature, John Locke
describes in his Political Writings. Liberty is a state of entire freedom in thought, practice, mores,
etc. Tocqueville argues that Liberty is a boundary, an imaginative idea, and almost an unreachable
goal in the Democratic state of America. Tocqueville... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority is relatable to the power of estates in the part aristocratic democratic France following
the French Revolution. Whereas, people are unified with their class and power is held within those

seem to have found new reasons to hate each other (Tocqueville, 22) America thus forms a majority
to terminate the inconstancies among the state of equality and to faction the population.
Tocqueville first argues the challenge of the majority, freedom of association has become a
necessary guarantee against the tyranny of the majority...the minority must resist the material
power that oppresses it...one danger is set against another more to be feared (Tocqueville, 307).
Therefore, there are limitations to the majority but, it is hard to overcome them as the majority is
most powerful. He then describes the omnipotence of the majority and their power within the law.
Ultimately, the majority has the power to decide what is just and therefore, limit the rights of others
(Tocqueville, 410). He states, to preserve liberty, several principles can be mixed together in the

When it comes to corrections, it is clear what their mission is and that is to incarcerate criminals,
however it also ensures that those incarcerated receive treatment to prepare them for reintegration
and reentry into society. Ever since the creation of prisons, some wonder how we managed to
survive without them in the past. Unfortunately, we do have neither the resources nor the capital
to incarcerate all who chose to engage in criminal behavior. Utilizing other programs like
probation are needed in order to accommodate those who wish to offend. According to McShane

so bad that they violated the Eighth Amendment and the CDCR needed to reduce the prison
population by 30,000 inmates.
The public is concerned because; some of those offenders will end up living among us in our
neighborhoods. It appears like the Supreme Court officials have forgotten that the offenders that
they are releasing are criminals. Why are these officials willing to place a large amount of these
offenders that were convicted by the courts back into society and jeopardize our public safety? I
am concerned that due to the high case load our probation and parole officers face that many of
these offenders will go unsupervised. Fortunately, our corrections system still continues to hire
new officer to help with probation and parole which are the two major programs that track and
ensure most of these offenders are being supervised and they also help with prison overcrowding.
Probation has been part of our society for many years. Probation was first used as a rehabilitative
and supervisory tool to keep those low level offenders out of jail. Today it is used as a strict
supervisory tool that monitors offenders at home. Our corrections system is constantly changing and

Illness Through The Eye Of The Beholder
Illness Through the Eye of the Beholder Because identities are both externally prescribed and
internally experienced, it is crucial that we evaluate the methodology by which medical
professionals identify and treat illnesses. At the point where suffering is unique to each individual,
it is important that we also consider the tools that each person has to describe their symptomology,
as to elucidate their sufferingin the context of the clinical perspective so that appropriate resources
and treatments would be made available to them. One such methodology used to understand
illnesses is known as the illnessnarrativein which Dr. Arthur Kleinman describes in his book, The
Illness Narratives, as [An] alternative therapeutic approach [originating] in the reconceptualization
of medical care as (1) empathic witnessing of the existential experience of suffering and (2)
practical coping with the major psychosocial crises that constitute the menacing chronicity of that
experience (10). Kleinman argues that this type of engagement between the doctor and the patient
is key to the recovery process of the patient. However, his argument relies on one, the effectiveness
of empathy through storytelling within the doctor patient relationship, and two, the ability of the
doctor to fully understand the illness experience depicted by the patient. These two implicit
assumptions are contested by Toni Morrison in her novel, Home, where she asserts that we cannot
fully empathize with another s

Sigmund Freud was born in 1856 in Frieber, Moravia; his father was a wool merchant and his
mother was twenty years younger than his father. Freud had two step brothers which were around
the same age as his mother; one stepbrother had a son who became Freud s playmate growing up
(Sigmund). Around the age of four, Freud and his family moved to Vienna where he stayed for a
majority of his life. (Boeree) When Freud s family moved to Vienna, they lived in an area that was

He died from cancer of the mouth and jaw. (Boree) Freud is the father of the Psychodynamic
Model which is the oldest and most famous of the modern psychological models (Comer, 2011, p.
37). Psychodynamic theorists believe that people s behaviors are driven by underlying
psychological forces; these forces come from the unconscious mind (Comer, 2011, p. 37). He
developed what is known as psychoanalysis: a way to treat certain mental illnesses by exposing and
discussing a patient s unconscious thoughts and feelings (Sigmund). Freud was a heavy believer in
hypnosis which he learned most from Joseph Breuer; Breuer claimed that he successfully treated a
woman by hypnotizing her and tracing back her symptoms to the traumatic experience of her
father dying (Sigmund). Freud later dropped the idea of hypnosis and started analyzing dreams
believing that many unconscious desires could be found through dreams (Sigmund). Freud
developed psychoanalysis further by determining the most powerful unconscious force; he
believed that sexual desires at an early age were shut down by the conscious but remained heavily
in the unconscious (Sigmund). He wrote Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality which were
violently protested at first but were later accepted in to almost every school of psychology.
(Sigmund) While Freud most likely suffered from depression and anxiety, off of what was
researched in this paper he will be diagnosed with something

Edgar Allan Poe s Impact on American Literature
Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most influential writers of the horror genre in American history. His
horror stories have impacted numerous authors and their stories over the years. Various people

King has this to say about Poe s works, He wasn t just a mystery/suspense writer, adds the author
many fans would describe as the modern Poe, Stephen King. He was the first (Hockensmith). Poe s
detective fiction or mystery fiction can best be felt in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
Sherlock Holmes is one of the best knows detectives in the history of literature. His fame can be
spotted in the books that have been written and the movies that have been produced about
Holmes. Poe s works were able to influence the author of the Sherlock Holmes series, Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle, in which he based the character of Sherlock Holmes off of one of Poe s characters
whose name was Dupin who was used in the mystery story The Murders in the Rue Morgue. The
similarities between the two characters are quite grand. Both are solitary men who prefer to live
quietly in either isolation or in the company of one close companion. ( Nineteenth Century
Influenced Poe ). Both men also tend to shift to the bottom of their mysteries without a large
amount of clues that other detective writers appear to have in their stories. The impact that Poe
has had on authors and stories cannot be matched. His stories have provided a model for future
authors to use, in the hope of growing the notoriety of mystery fiction or the horror genre. Poe s
writing was able to captivate people, as stated above, but Poe was also able to reach a plethora of
authors that lived in the South. The life of

Comparing The Crucible And Guilty By Suspicion
All it took was a whisper. (Winkler). Indeed, that was all it took for David Merrill and John
Proctor to find themselves before a court, answering for unprovable crimes. Though neither man
knew of the other, would never even have a chance of meeting each other (aside from the fact
Miller is a fictional character), and were not even accused of the same crime, the situations these
two protagonists find themselves in are unnervingly similar. It would be no surprise to then learn
that The Crucible by Arthur Miller was written as an allegory of the very trials that David Merrill
would have found himself in. Because they revolve around similar concepts and topics, The
Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, and Guilty By Suspicion, written and directed by Irwin Winkler,
despite being about two different looming spectres in two different settings, have strong
connections and similarities to one another. Both main characters in The Crucible and Guilty By

Homosexuality And Sexual Orientation Paper
Sexuality has become a prominent issue in today s society as the world are becoming more
liberated by educational and ethical discussion. In Sociosexual orientation, homosexuality is one of
the topic that has been most discussed. People have been actively seeking for answers for the
question why are humans, or other animals, attracted to partner that has the same sex of
themselves; when there are no evolutionary implications yet. Moreover, many others, especially the
homosexuals, are repositioning to the question of how can they identify the seemingly minority

Sexuality In Dracula
After decades of cheesy horror movies, the image of vampires has been misconstrued as sparkly,
angsty teenage boys or handsome men that lure in girls for the fresh blood of a virgin. Many of
these stereotypical vampires are influenced by the story of Dracula, held in the Victorian era. Yet,
many of the stories published about vampires diverge from the message that Bram Stoker is trying
to make. During the Victorian period, sexuality is repressed by society, as sexual behaviors from
women are viewed as unacceptable. In the Gothic horror novel Dracula, Bram Stoker uses the
traumatic experience of Jonathan Harker at Count Dracula s castle and the invasion of vampires in
Great Britain to create a social commentary on the sexual repression occurring in this era and its
detrimental effect on the men.
Throughout the entire novel, Stoker hints at sexual references, based on the characters actions. In
every encounter with female vampires, there is a perverse tone in the wordings of the passage. For
example, during Jonathan Harker s visit to Count Dracula s castle, he encounters three vampire
sisters after he disobeys Dracula s order to not leave his room. Harker s heart has a wicked,
burning desire (Stoker 32) that the three sisters would kiss him. He shows carnal desires as he is
approached by these vampires, unable to refuse their advances on to him, despite his loyalty to
Mina. This reveals that the men of the Victorian era cannot refuse and maybe even fear the
unknown sexual

A Debate On Owning A Gun
Owning a Gun Owning a gun is a highly debated topic in America. There are citizens who believe
that only law enforcement and military should own guns. However, other Americans believe that
guns are a constitutional right to own arms. Important questions in this debate include: why do
Americans own guns, should firearms be allowed to hunt, is the second amendment still important
today, and owning a gun is dangerous to people, so why get one? Americans should own guns. If
not, the repercussions of unarmed citizens would be devastating to the freedoms of the United
States. All of these questions asked are an integral part of the gun debate that has been a part of the
American culture since the founding. Yet, guns are necessary tools to... Show more content on

American citizens owning guns help keep their liberties from being taken away from them by an
intrusive government. Another reason for owning a gun, as an American citizen, is the bonding as
a family while hunting. Hunting is a way for families to get away from the stresses of life and
electricity, and back to nature. Firearms are an important part of hunting. There are several positive
reasons for hunting.. Hunting has been a traditional source of food for humans since the beginning
of man. Hunting also provides skins for cloths and leathers that colder regions use to keep warm or
for trade. Big game animals can yield enough meat to last a family for months. Many contemporary
families use hunting as a way to visit nature and spend time with one another. Entire families
vacation and go hunting to get away from the stresses of urban life. Along with family bonding,
another positive of hunting with guns is the revenue generated from issued hunting licenses. A
hunting license is sold to a hunter before they can go out to hunt. The state and the city both make
money from licenses and game tags. Hunting and fishing, according to North Carolina s Wildlife
Commission yields, $3.3 Billion positive impact TO N.C. Economy, $2.4 Billion Fishing and

Matt Barrett s Athens Survival Guide
According to Matt Barrett s Athens Survival Guide , in the 1789, when the Ottoman Empire is
mixed up in the war in Europe and Napoleon decided to invade Egypt, Thomas Bruce who was
the Earl of Elgin at the time, decided to travel to Athens to acquire sketches and molds of the
famous sculptures. He believed that by doing so, the culture of England would improve and her
people would grow Enlightened just looking at the impressive Greek works of art. Lord Elgin,
who probably had a second motive for obtaining these sketches, was also encouraged return with
these molds and sketches so that the architect of his new large home could have some
inspiration in the designing. Regardless of Lord Elgin s motivations, he accepted a position of
ambassador with England and left to visit Greece with specific instructions to remove the
French from the areas that were part of the Ottoman Empire as well as to watch for new deals
and trades to assist England. Lord Elgin worked as an Ambassador for a few years and though
he grew sicker while living there, as well as losing his nose to a severe skin disease, he continued
in his works to acquire the sketches and molds of the sculptures in Athens and had no desire nor
thought to actually take any of the original marble pieces. The craftsman and sculptures of the

Movement and Stasis in the Divine Comedy Essay
Movement and Stasis : The use of dynamics in the Divine Comedy
Movement is a crucial theme of the Divine Comedy. From the outset, we are confronted with the
physicality of the lost Dante, wandering in the perilous dark wood. His movement within the
strange place is confused and faltering; `Io non so ben ridir com io v entrai . Moreover, it is
clear that the physical distress he is experiencing is the visible manifestation of the mental
anguish the poet is suffering. The allegory of the image is one of mid life crisis, but it is
physically represented by the man losing his way in a dark wood. Such an observation may seem
far too simple and obvious to be worthy of comment. However, I would argue that it is from this

The first passage is probably the most famous in the whole work, that of Francesca da Rimini, in
Canto V of the Inferno . Condemned for her inconstancy, that is to say her lust, Francesca is
contained in the eternal whirlwind of the `bufera infernale , alongside her lover, Paolo. In a clear
parallel to her sin, she is buffeted by the inconstant wind. Although unceasing, the wind changes
direction and force, a movement which is mirrored by the language used to describe it:
Di qua, di l #224;, di gi #249;, di su li mena;
nulla speranza li conforta mai,
non che di posa, ma minor pena.
(43 45, Canto V, Inf.)
In addition to the basic rhyme of the terza rima, the internal rhyme is carefully manipulated to
imitate phonologically the swirling of the wind. By balancing the repeated [a] of `di qua, di la
with the [u:] of the `di gi #249;, di su , Dante is able to mimic the up and down movement of the air.
Francesca, then, is an extremely `mobile sinner. Although pausing to speak to Dante (the
significance of which will be later discussed), she is compelled to move indeed, it is an integral
part of her punishment. This compulsion is significant. Through rejecting a life of constancy on
earth, whether willingly or otherwise, Francesca has sacrificed the free will she was allowed to
exert on her body. Having lost control of herself in life she is plunged into the chaos of the `bufera

Society In Pre Colonial Society
Pre colonial society were easy to gain control of because they did not want to fight or have any

gain control because they were very superstitious and would always need to consult the oracle
before doing anything. Pre colonial society was easy to gain control of since there was no one to
lead the clan in unity since they went off titles. The people of pre colonial society were very
oblivion so they would give the colonizers anything that they would ask for. The elements of pre
colonial society that made it vulnerable to the colonizers were that they were unwilling to fight,
superstitious due to their religion, had no leader and were oblivion. The Village of Umuofia was
peaceful and the people were not willing to fight for any reason and if it was possible they will

Organizational Structure And Functional Structure
How do you think your chosen company created their organizational structure? How is the
organizational structure reflected in the company culture?
The company I have chosen is the Department of Navy created their Functional Structure which
was based of learned lessons from past military employment history. The Navy s functional structure
provides organization according to a jobs or an individual s purpose within the organization.
Departments that focus on a single function or goal most easily recognize functional organizations.
For instance, an organization with a marketing department, a human resources department, a
research and development department and so forth, operates according to functional organization.
The functional structure provides employees, as well as their appropriate departments, with a clear
objective and purpose for their work. As an example, employees within a marketing department
know that their job is marketing and, as a result, those employees can focus on improving their
marketing work and even specialize in a specific area of marketing. On the other hand, functional
structure can create divisions between departments if a conflict develops between departments.
How is the company able to keep all the employees up to date on company strategies and tactics
within the current company dynamics? Is it effective?
Management sets objectives and charts a course of action so as to be proactive rather than reactive

Compare And Contrast Martin Luther King Jr And Malcolm X
The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and 1970s paved a way towards a more racially
harmonious America. Two famous men during this movement for the black community were
Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Two very different men with two very different
ideologies and two very different strategies towards equality. One was credited as the Father of the
Civil Rights Movement while another one was a hostile extremist who encouraged violence only
for self defense. Both men made an impact on civil rights for the black community, but people were
more gravitated towards King than they were to Malcolm X. On August 28th, 1963; one of

and Malcolm X giving two completely different speeches, both had similar strengths in these

to clarify what they meant and where they stood, and both knew just what to say to their
audience. These two men were very popular in their time and had many followers, but the people
tended to gravitate more towards King than Malcolm X. King knew how to make his speeches
memorable, not just by who wrote it but how he wrote it. King used metaphors, used repetition,
and quoted well known documents in his speeches. I have dream is a well known and
remembered phrase in his speech, but is not said until closer to the end of his speech. One
hundred years later... and Now is the time... and let freedom ring... are also phrases King repeats.
By using repetition in his speech, he made it more memorable to his audience and made the
meaning of his speech clearer. Using metaphors painted a more illustrated picture for his
audience. King described America s promise of freedom as a check marked insufficient funds,
which made his speech more illustrated and therefore, more memorable to his audience.
Malcolm X used metaphors as well, though did not use as much repetition in his speech like
King did. Malcolm X s speeches, while just as powerful, were not as memorable. His main
points were expressed, that the Honorable Elijah Muhammad was a prophet and was the only
means of escape from the doomed White America. Malcolm X does not quote the Bible word for
word but does explain the prophets and their stories. The main prophet he uses is Moses, and he
compares and contrasts Moses to Elijah Muhammad. He compares how Pharaoh did not take
Moses seriously and that now White America is doing the same to Muhammad. Even comparing

Happy Life Essay
A Happy Life That I Once Thought Was Impossible
I believe that an ideal life is mostly based on happiness. It took me a while to discover what
truely makes me happy because in my childhood, I perceived happiness as something
unreachable by mankind. Especially, because of my struggle. We live in a world of so much
problems and crisis. And. . . I come from a place that s full of it Africa. If we think of it, real
happiness doesn t come to us in an easy way. I agree with Tzu s definition of happiness in his
book: a desire or a fortune that remains eternity. According to Tzu, happiness is a fortune just as
wealth and fame. Just to be honest, I had once thought that an everlasting happiness I
unattainable. But, that was before I discovered that self satisfaction and contentment results in a
happier life. I achieved my happiness after I went through some situations and circumstances
that hit my life for good. Before I share my story, I d like to make a salient point that God is the
bedrock of the overflowing fountain of happiness that prevails in my life. Through prayer and
hard work I achieved an indescribable life of so many blessings and it all happened in the year 2014.
Just like I said, the year 2014 was a blessed year of my life. God gave me an opportunity to live a
life full of so much fulfilment and happiness. During that year, I was able to overcome a lot of

Shakespeare s most popular plays during his lifetime and along with Hamlet, is one of his most

Annan was commissioned by the Trustees to record it s passing, an antiquarian commission that
answered an anxiety about the city s ferocious pace of change. Although taken at a time of public
concern about the appalling overcrowding of the urban working class, his photographs are not
obviously documents of social investigation. Through his dispassionate attention to the visual,
Annan initiated what later came to be known as the documentary tradition. From this work more

Research Paper On Constructivism
Constructivism: A Review
Abstract
Constructivism is an all encompassing theory of learning that emerged as a prevailing paradigm in
the last part of the twentieth century. Constructivism is a theory which brings cogitation to
pedagogy (Bruner, 1966). Constructivism capitalizes on the ways in which human beings create
their own personal construct of reality by understanding and experiencing the world. The
cornerstone of constructivism is that constructing personal meaning is ingrained in individuals
right from the birth (Vygotsky, 1978).
The Overview
Constructivist approach explains the ways in which learners make their own personal senses of
learning tasks, the environment, the teacher, and the actual process of learning (Vygotsky, 1962).

In education teacher acts more akin to a mediator consulting and helping learner grow. Social
constructivism adopts its stance as internationalist perspective operating within social context.
Learners are actively involved in the process of learning shaping their experiences about the world
by other significant people (Vygotsky, 1962).
3
Constructivism is part of educational psychology which places the learner at the central focus.
Learner learns by interacting in a social context of teacher and text. Each individual learner is sui
generis, no two learners are the same. The ways they view the world are not the same. Learners
bring these differences to the learning situation. Teachers must be cognizant of these differences.
Furthermore no two teachers and teaching situations are ever the same. Like students, teachers
should become self aware of their beliefs and attitude to the teaching and learning and make their
own contributions to the learner as the situations arise (Williams and Burden, 1997). While learners
are interacting with the task beforehand, teachers are required to take the learners response to the
tasks to see if they are appropriate to their levels of developments congruent

Salmonell A Common Bacteria
The importance of doing this investigation was necessary as this microorganism, Salmonella is a
common bacteria encountered in daily life. Salmonella is a bacterium that is found in a wide
variety of animals and mammals (Weese and Fulford, 2011). Gram negative bacteria exhibit
appendages on outer surfaces known as pili (Lo et al., 2014). The pili is also named fimbriae,
these are chains of protein that form filaments that extend from the outer surface of bacterial cells
enabling them to adhere to any host target cell (Proft and Baker, 2009; Kang and Baker, 2012).
This makes the pili of clinical importance when assessing clinical manifestation; particularly in
pathogenic organisms, when developing drugs such as vaccines (Kang and Baker, 2012).
Currently, the use of pili in vaccine development is widespread in research (Wizeman et al, 1999).
This suggests that the pilus is the basic structural subunit in all bacterial cells. Studying Salmonella
is vital in understanding how SafD operates and possible clinical problems posed to individuals,
due to the different strains of the bacterium that have been previously discovered. Although
Salmonella has been identified and classified into different classifications, it has undergone
multiple changes and the main nomenclature system is yet to be established (Chiu, Lin Hui, 2014).
The genus which Salmonella belongs to is known as the Enterobacteriaceae family (Chu and Su,
2004; Farmer, 1995). Salmonella is a gram negative rod shaped

Ancient Greek God Museum Exhibit Essay
Ancient Greek God Museum Exhibit The museum curator is an important title; they pick and
choose 5% of the total art being viewed by the public. The curator must be wise, include art pieces
that flow with the theme of the exhibit, as well as educates the visitor. Curating this exhibit, I have
chosen three works of ancient Greek art that will inform visitors about three of the most well
known Greek gods. A slab from the Parthenon frieze of Zeusand Hera, a Kylix of Hadesand
Persephone, and the Triumph of Poseidon with his wife Amphitrite. This exhibit would work very
well during Valentine s day because the exhibit focuses on the three sons of Cronus and conjointly
analyzes the love that each god has for their significant other, which is at times unusual for these
Gods.

Pathophysiology Of The Following Signs And Symptoms
7.Explain the pathophysiology of the following signs and symptoms: a.Polyuria: is more than
normal or increased urine output. Water homeostasis is controlled by a complex balance of
water intake, renal perfusion, glomerular filtration and tubular reabsorption of solutes, and
reabsorption of water from the renal collecting ducts. When intake of water increases, blood
volume rises and blood osmolality falls, lowering the release of ADH (arginine vasopressin,
which promotes water reabsorption) in the hypothalamic pituitary system. With the lowering of
ADH there is a rise in urine volume, which allows blood osmolality to return to normal. Urine
containing large amounts of glucose has high osmotic pressure, which attracts water, so that
urine output rises (osmotic diuresis). b.Polydipsia: increased fluid intake. It is due to high
blood glucose that raises the osmolality of blood and makes it more concentrated. With frequent
urination, increase water intake becomes necessary. Severe dehydration and electrolyte
imbalance can occur. Diabetes may cause blood glucose levels to rise which can lead to
increased glucose levels that cause one s body to pull fluid from cells into the bloodstream and
deliver the increased load to the kidneys. This can cause one s kidneys to over work and produce
more urine than normal. c.Polyphagia: increased food intake is due to loss or excess glucose in
urine that leads the body to crave for more glucose. As calories are lost in urine, increased

Thank You For Arguing Summary
In section 4 of Thank You For Arguing by Jay Heinrichs, Heinrichs starts out by explaining Cicero s
five canons of persuasion that include: invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery.
Invention is the start of the persuasion and the thought of what is wanted to be accomplished. Then,
the issue itself needs to be figured out and resolved. Finally, the person needs to think about the
audience and what their values are. That will get an individual a start on the art of persuasion.
Arrangement is how a person is going to arrange an argument so the persuasion is the most
impactful. Arrangement comes down to this rule of thumb Ethos first. Then logos. Then pathos.

Also, refutation is developed to win the argument and completely smash your opponents facts
and argument. At the end, Heinrichs explains the conclusion where the individual states their
best points from the argument. Style is how a person expresses their thoughts and words. Proper
language is one of the styles which are words that suit the occasion and my audience (287).
Heinrichs also explains the style of clarity, which is speaking to make the words obvious and
straight facts. Also, Memory is used to create an image in the audience s minds to make them
feel and imagine what the individual is talking about to persuade the audience more impactfully.
Finally, the fifth canon of persuasion is delivery and how the person uses body language, along
with your voice, rhythms, and breathing (290). Voice is key in delivery especially in the volume
of the voice and how the audience emphasises the tone of the speaker. Towards the end of the
novel, Heinrichs reiterates on a few keywords including: goals, ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos.
Heinrichs also states examples of situations when these tools are needed. An example is when a

The Presidential Election Of 2016 Essay
The presidential election of 2016 shocked people across America after Donald Trump won the
election. Many people questioned how such a candidate could run for office, much less hold one
of the most powerful positions on Earth. In attempting to uncover how Trump could be victorious
in an electoral race against Hillary Clinton, this paper will analyze four key factors in a general
election: the fundamentals, campaigns, the media, and the voters. Each factor provides insight on
how Trump was able to be successful in his pursuit of the presidency, but they do not begin to tell
the complete tale. Political science research stresses the importance of the fundamentals in an
election, if candidates can successfully take advantage of them. The fundamentals refer to a group
of three factors that serve as background to the campaign and are variables that the candidate
themselves cannot change. According to Gary Jacobson and many other political scientists, the
fundamentals of any campaign are the incumbency of any candidate or party, the current state of
the economy, and the popularity of the president. The presence of an open seat during a presidential
race strongly affects the election. Races with an open presidential seat are much more competitive,
as incumbent candidates possess a very strong advantage. In the past eight electionsfeaturing an

Symbolism In The Film, All-Heart
Symbolism is abundant within the film. Ray has created his own start up company called All
Heart, which focuses primarily on working with other companies to, for example, make
necessary medications more affordable. The symbol for his company is visible in various
places within the Embrey household, in Ray s workplace, and plays a major role toward the end
when Hancock projects the logo onto the moon for everyone to see. The logo itself symbolizes
the importance of becoming a good citizen and emphasizes working diligently to improve the
quality of the world this is precisely what Hancock attempted to do throughout the film, and his
final gesture is an homage to his own character development. The weather also plays a heavily
symbolic role in establishing the mood. Whenever Hancock is on a potentially destructive path, a
storm begins to swirl above him, darkening both the lighting and the mood of the film. The storms
essentially symbolize Hancock s future when choosing to selfishly go against society. Finally, a

The audience is introduced to Ray from a low camera angle to emphasize his power. Although not
the typical figure of strength, this initial representation is consistent with the theme of the film
and its focus on being a good person who does not attempt to go against fate because Ray is
essentially the most moral character in the film. He proves himself to be a foil to Hancock with
his immense focus on improving the world around him. The director employs a subjective shot
when Hancock leaves the Embrey s household for the first time, primarily functioning to allow the
audience to temporarily view the world from Hancock s eyes. Viewing the neighborhood from such

Mary Wollstonecraft s A Vindication of the Rights of Woman
Mary Wollstonecraft considered as a remarkable women activists and an English writer of 18th
century. In her essay, she constantly compares men and women. Her comparisons range from their
physical nature to their intelligence and even down to the education that each sex receives is
commendable. Wollstonecraft said that, In the government of the physical world it is observable
that the female in point of strength is, in general, inferior to the male (Wollstonecraft 35). She has
also revealed that women are inferior to men in physicality and a number of areas throughout the

Humans have been around for thousands of years, yet men still disgrace. In my point of view,
she has portrayed society as a debatable platform where is a urge to stand up for women to every
women along with men. The rights of women and their place in society have been a debate of
different degrees throughout time. As we grow up in a society and culture that raises us and
educates us about rights and wrongs and how things should be it has blinded women from their true
potential and rights as human beings. However, just like a child that learns to walk, Wollstonecraft
takes the first steps leading the ongoing prominent debate of the rights of women.
Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own
In Virginia Woolf s feminist essay A Room of One s Own, Woolf argues that, a womanmust have
money and a room of her own (16) if she is to write fiction of any value. The point as she
develops it is a perceptive one and far more layered and various in its implications than it might
be at first seem. However, I wonder if perhaps Woolf did not really hit the full power of her
thesis. She recognized the necessity of the writer s financial independence to the birth of great
writing. However, she failed to discover the true relationship to great writing of another freedom
for just as economic freedom allows one to inhabit a physical space like a room of one s individual

The Way of Tlachtli Essay
Since the early 1400s BCE, people of this era have played one of the earliest known forms of a
sport that involves two teams and a rubber ball played on a court. Based on archaeological
evidence, Tlachtli (which translates in English to ball game ) is thought to have been played by the
civilizations of Mesoamericaincluding the Aztec, Maya, Olmec, and Toltec. The game was more
than a sport to these people. It was a means of settling conflicts and maintaining social harmony, it
was a very important part in the ritualistic lives of those cultures. The most fascinating aspect of
this sport is what set it apart from other ritual based events of these cultures. Based on how you

Seeing as this is the only place the rubber tree grows, it would be no surprise if this is where the
sport was born. For the Mesoamerican cultures of this area, rubber was an important material
valued as sacred and ceremonial. A unique substance that is neither solid nor liquid, rubber played
an important role in the everyday lives of Mesoamerican people. The most creative use of rubber
was not for agriculture, construction, or warfare, but a deadly ceremonial sport.
Murals found at a dig site in Teotihuacan suggests that at one point, this sport was played with
wooden sticks, but the most common played method of the game used no extra equipment;
players kept the ball in play using their hips. While the game play varied from city to city, the
game rules of play were basically the same throughout Mesoamerica of that era. The game was
played in large stone courts and informally on fields in major Mesoamerican cities. Proof shows
that Aztec games were eventually played with stone hoops where players could score points by
hitting the hoop with the ball or win the game outright by getting the ball through the hoop.
Tlachtli was a serious matter to the players and to the cultures of Mesoamerica. The game was
intense and serious and sometimes fatal injuries were inflicted by the solid, heavy nine pound ball.
Back when Spain controlled the area, Spanish chronicler Diego DurГЎn explained that some
bruises caused by the ball were so bad that

Some athletes are affected with sleep deprivation, which, according to the dictionary, is is the
condition of not having enough sleep; it can be either chronic or acute. A chronic sleep restricted
state can cause fatigue, daytime sleepiness, clumsiness and weight loss or weight gain. It
adversely affects the brain and cognitive function. Being sleepy while in the middle of a match is
not a recipe for success when it comes to a game. Traveling plays a small role in the huge impact
that home field advantage has on the visiting team. In most sports there are actual rules in place
that have a negative effect on the visitor. Baseball is the sport where the home field advantage
rule can really impact the game. Two specific rules are what give very big advantages to the home
team. The first of the two is that the home team no matter the case always gets to bat last. This can
be crucial in a close game because if the home team is winning at the top of the ninth inning,
concluding that inning the ball game is over. If the home team is tied or losing in the top of the
ninth they have one last chance to bat, nevertheless, so many home teams win the game in the
bottom of the ninth. This rule positively impacts the home team, yet poses a threat to the visitors.

Everything within this world is manufactured and lacks the sensory experience of things in the
natural world. The use of onomatopoeia She d reached out and touched this, her artificial nails

sensory experience towards natural elements due to the reliability towards artificiality. The
absence of nature and artificiality suggests that society has ruined, damaged and completely
destroyed natural resources. This is demonstrated in the visual imagery The sky above the port

within Neuromancer society, that they neglect natural elements. The world has now turned to
medical intervention, technology and Science to preserve life through artificial means. Gibson
assesses the use of technology within society, setting limitation of the extent of reliability
towards science and technology, ensuring that it doesn t intervene with morals and ethics. The
people in this society are fixated on extending their lives through a medical intervention such as
the replacement of limbs. This obsession is best represented in the characterisation of Julius

making it sufficient for communicating the offer. Here, the offer was committed because the
department store posted in the add in the newspaper that explicitly stated first come first serve

the goods and asserted their willingness to sell the both the necklace and the caps to who ever

English Reformation Dbq Essay
Among the many religious changes that occurred throughout Europe in the sixteenth century, few
were as widely influential as the Reformation. There were three streams of the Reformation: the
common class, the educated middle class, and the monarchs and princes. All three streams wanted
the church to be fixed and hoped it could combine old ideas and new ones. The Reformation was
influenced by many different people, yet the most important was John Wyclif, who stated that the
church did not need possession in order to be powerful. Different ideologies came from the
influences of Wyclif, and many others. Lutheranism began in the mid 1500 s by Martin Luther, and
he developed a doctrine of Justification by Faith where he wrote of how people stay in the church

Along with Lutheranism, another ideology called Calvinism began during the Reformation.
Calvinism, run by John Calvin, focused on predestination the idea where God had already picked
his people s destinies when they were young and nothing they did would affect these destinies. A
third ideology also came into play during the Reformation called Zwinglism. Run by Zwingli, a
German, he began a reform of the Swiss city Zurich, and created the Priesthood of True Believers.
Following the new ideologies, the English Reformation began during this time period. The most
important change during the English reformation began when Queen Elizabeth took the throne
back from Mary and turned the church into a Protestant church. During the Protestant Reformation,
Anabaptist sects became present in Europe, and they all believed in the Inner light a concept of
spiritual revelation. Through all of these different factors, the Protestant Reformation marked a
change in the way people thought of the church, and changed the Roman

The most hardest one to work on has to be peer resistance skills. I usually sometimes give up
very easily, for example when I can t get a problem right and I keep trying, I would give up and
guess. I have been working on it about a couple weeks, and it had improved by doing problems
until I know it is right.. I still believe peer resistance skills is my weakness since I usually keep
going back in forth about giving up and not giving up over simple things. Usually when
something very upsetting comes up, I usually get upset a long period of time. Coping skills is
difficult to deal with too but easy to make a solution for. For example, you can knit, read, listen
to music, talk to friends, and etc. These skills are really hard to handle but I think I could make
them into my strengths if I work hard and believe in myself. Strengths and weaknesses can be a
struggle at a period of time. If you only focus on one point of a subject, you might not realize
your other subjects will be weak. Weaknesses can be easily handle but people don t know how to
react. This is where the term, goals can solve for both strengths and weaknesses. For an example,
you could set a goal to work on your communication skills by talking to your classmates or close
friends. It doesn t matter if it s a long term goal or a short term since, you would work hard for one
or more goals you have in mind. The seven life

Persuasion As A Political Leader
In today s society, we are easily influenced to think and act a certain way. For example, we are
influenced by the media to buy things and meet certain standards, however, we often don t protest
or question why. Through persuasion, one alters another s perspective on an event or occurrence
and because of this, people usually tend to accept what is being said or portrayed. According to
Petty and Cacioppo (1986), there are two routes to persuasion. When one tries to persuade another
by being more caring and have a good understanding of the message they are delivering, this is
called the central route to persuasion. The second route to persuasion is better known as the
peripheral route to persuasion. This occurs when the one being addressed simply agrees with
what is being said based on certain superficial cues rather than the actual message. Political
persuasion methods are widely used, especially in campaigns. As a political leader, one detains
the ultimate power to influence the population. Being a political leader, however, is never easy.
Sometimes, one must make tough decisions that many of the population might not agree on. For
instance, if a person in power chose to bomb a foreign country, this would create mayhem and
thus his followers or just people in society would start to doubt his decision and may lead to riots.
This specific political leader must debate his case and persuade the population that his decision
was the right thing to do. In order to do so,

As a beer lover and a native to the region, I had so many questions when I started Capital Beer by
Garret Peck. What part did D.C. play in the beer industry? What was the beer scene in D.C.? Did

anything like today? I was expecting a slim history on the beerindustry in Washington, D.C. Instead,
I got a well thought out retrospective on the industry, its place in history, and its role in the

Essay about Oscar Wilde s An Ideal Husband
Oscar Wilde s An Ideal Husband
Oscar Wilde (1845 1903) lived an outrageous and controversial life which was well publicized and
condemned, as his life defied the strict social mores of the time. He was put into this public
position due to the success of his plays which challenged Victorian earnestness while being
hilariously funny. His plays, in particular An Ideal Husband, 1895 portray Victorian society as
viciously hypocritical at it s worst and laughably pretentious at it s best. Wilde expressed this point
of view in An Ideal Husband through the rich use of plot development, construction of characters,
dramatic irony, hyperbole, witty and epigrammatic repartee and satire.
The central plot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience assumes that people in the real world as lucky and benevolent as this are so
becuase they worked hard and are earnest. By creating a character like this who took the easy
money and built a marriage and friendships around lies, wilde has challenged the earnestness of
the many victorian people because there were many poeple in a social position like robert s who
may have done a similar thing to get there.
In An Ideal Husband Wilde presents a view (the least flattering view presented in the play)that
victorian society is viciously hypocritical. This is acheived through the characterisation of Lady
Gertrude chiltern, as her ridiculously high morals (an important factor of earnestness) almost cost
her her marriage. she demanded to be told if robert had done some shameful thing, in which case
they would separate. This irony shows the hypocrisy of being too earnest.
Morality is an important factor of earnestness which is mocked in An Ideal Husband by the
dialogue of the play, especially the characterised dialogue of Mrs. Chevely. Through her dialogue
Morality is simply the attitude we adopt towards people whom we personally dislike. , wilde,

  • 2. Unit 3 Deployment My experience includes three deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and one deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). This is an account of the first few days of my third deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a Sergeant, I deployed to OIF in 2007 with Darkhorse Troop, 6 8 CAV, 3 1 AD. My platoon was composed of twenty two scouts, a medic, a forward observer (FO), and eight HMMWV s. We received eight Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAPs) after six months of the fifteen month deployment. I was a team leader in my platoon s Bravo section. Our squadron was first assigned to FOB Falcon. After four months, we were relocated to COP Fish (later renamed COP Derby). COP Fish was located 10 miles south of FOB Falcon, down a road that was known as Chicken Run. The COP was surrounded by vast amounts of mud huts, empty fish ponds, and several chicken huts, where insurgents were known to conduct random attacks on United Statessoldiers. The insurgents in the area were known to use both direct and indirect fire. Our squadron was tasked to clear all IEDS, UXOs, and roads within the AO. All of our troop missions worked toward clearing the area and, occasionally, cataloging the mud huts. Our platoon... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I continued to take the lead of the section regardless of my vehicle being hit. SSG Thomas couldn t deal with being on patrol so they moved him to S 3. The soldiers were relieved when SSG Thomas was moved to S 3. SFC Lackey seemed bothered be the fact that a Sergeant lead out and not the SSG that he had designated as point man. That is why he removed SSG Thomas from the platoon. In place of SSG Thomas, he got another SSG from S 3 that wanted to be out on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These impacts can also be regard as direct, through the use of water, energy, and land, or indirect, through the production and distribution of goods and services that household consumes. The minus side to reducing your personal energy use is the, loss of your luxuries eg; sitting in the warmth or cool air of your heater and the AC, can t be a couch potato any longer, have to drive around towns smartly and efficiently to save planet, eating less meat because agriculture industries produces a lot of methane, hanging your clothes out to dry in the sun rather than simply using an dryer. Finally the interesting things are using renewable sources to produce energy at home, choosing the highest efficient home appliances competitions between the electric appliances industries to come up with the efficient appliances, recycling products, trying telecommunication for working purposes rather than going to work and wasting fuel energy. This was an example of how PMI can be a useful creative thinking tool for generating ideas. • 5. Man Carrying Thing By Wallace Stevens September 11,2001 was one of the saddest days in American history. As everyone knows, September 11, 2001 was the day that shook the world. It didn t only affect the US but everyone around the world. The people in those buildings were not only Americans but people of every nationality. I don t think that one person knew exactly how to react or think. This tragedy is something that should have never happened from the start. However, it did. Most of America can tell you that they remember exactly what they were doing and where they were on September 11th. Unfortunately, for kids my age, we were just too young to remember the devastating events that happened on this day. Even though it may seem as though many people lost their lives in these tragic events, we have to remember that hundreds and thousands were saved. However, weeks after thousands were estimated dead. What is the worst about this event is that a lot the workers or visitors who died had been at or above the point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ties into the Jumpers sculpture because she used paper to represent the people. We all know that paper did not really fall from the Twin Towers, it was people. So for that reason we should not let the fact that she has paper take away from the real picture. In the poem Man carrying thing we can see that Wallace Stevens is basically saying take your focus from the secondary to the primary. With the Twin Towers, nobody wanted to accept that it happened and people jumped to their death but we had to realize and accept it. In conclusion, we can see that Melinda Hoffman used many objects and symbolism to represent a terrible tragedy that happened. If you take the time and observe, modernism is all over this sculpture. From the everyday objects used to represent the Twin Towers, to the paper being used to represent people. We must focus of the primary objective and not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, in his article True Blue featured in The New Yorker, Peter Schjeldahl mentioned that Still, some quality of ego transcending devotion persists through all Klein s work. Klein is very confident and fearless even when the work its not complex and leans toward minimalist. After several months of exhibitions he makes a shift in his style of art that has become known as his Blue Period (January 1957). Blue Monochrome was his first real success. It s notoriety came with a show based around his new color in question, International Klein Blue . What makes his new color interesting is that he actually created with the help of a chemist. Monochrome Blue has no trace of line or imagery, it simply surrounds the viewer in color, provoking meditation and deep thought. This notion of meditation and deep thought may be a reference to the sky, the Holy Ghost, or even Mary s robe which was often depicted as vibrant blue in Renaissance paintings. The idea to reference art history was a very contemporary and post modern idea showing him ahead of the times. In 1787, the Constitution of the United States granted the security of the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity . It s blatantly obvious that the history of America, up until Alexis de Tocqueville wrote Democracy in America, had any of those attributes been granted wholly. Liberty is relatable to the State of Nature, John Locke describes in his Political Writings. He states, by coming closer together, they seem to have found new reasons to hate each other (Tocqueville, 22) America thus forms a majority to terminate the inconstancies among the state of equality and to faction the population. Tocqueville first argues the challenge of the majority, freedom of association has become a necessary guarantee against the tyranny of the majority...the minority must resist the material power that oppresses it...one danger is set against another more to be feared (Tocqueville, 307). Therefore, there are limitations to the majority but, it is hard to overcome them as the majority is most powerful. He then describes the omnipotence of the majority and their power within the law. Ultimately, the majority has the power to decide what is just and therefore, limit the rights of others (Tocqueville, 410). Essay Corrections System When it comes to corrections, it is clear what their mission is and that is to incarcerate criminals, however it also ensures that those incarcerated receive treatment to prepare them for reintegration and reentry into society. Ever since the creation of prisons, some wonder how we managed to survive without them in the past. Unfortunately, we do have neither the resources nor the capital to incarcerate all who chose to engage in criminal behavior. The public is concerned because; some of those offenders will end up living among us in our neighborhoods. It appears like the Supreme Court officials have forgotten that the offenders that they are releasing are criminals. Why are these officials willing to place a large amount of these offenders that were convicted by the courts back into society and jeopardize our public safety? I am concerned that due to the high case load our probation and parole officers face that many of these offenders will go unsupervised. Fortunately, our corrections system still continues to hire new officer to help with probation and parole which are the two major programs that track and ensure most of these offenders are being supervised and they also help with prison overcrowding. • 14. Illness Through The Eye Of The Beholder Illness Through the Eye of the Beholder Because identities are both externally prescribed and internally experienced, it is crucial that we evaluate the methodology by which medical professionals identify and treat illnesses. At the point where suffering is unique to each individual, it is important that we also consider the tools that each person has to describe their symptomology, as to elucidate their sufferingin the context of the clinical perspective so that appropriate resources and treatments would be made available to them. One such methodology used to understand illnesses is known as the illnessnarrativein which Dr. Arthur Kleinman describes in his book, The Illness Narratives, as [An] alternative therapeutic approach [originating] in the reconceptualization of medical care as (1) empathic witnessing of the existential experience of suffering and (2) practical coping with the major psychosocial crises that constitute the menacing chronicity of that experience (10). Kleinman argues that this type of engagement between the doctor and the patient is key to the recovery process of the patient. However, his argument relies on one, the effectiveness of empathy through storytelling within the doctor patient relationship, and two, the ability of the doctor to fully understand the illness experience depicted by the patient. These two implicit assumptions are contested by Toni Morrison in her novel, Home, where she asserts that we cannot fully empathize with another s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Boree) Freud is the father of the Psychodynamic Model which is the oldest and most famous of the modern psychological models (Comer, 2011, p. 37). Psychodynamic theorists believe that people s behaviors are driven by underlying psychological forces; these forces come from the unconscious mind (Comer, 2011, p. 37). He developed what is known as psychoanalysis: a way to treat certain mental illnesses by exposing and discussing a patient s unconscious thoughts and feelings (Sigmund). Freud was a heavy believer in hypnosis which he learned most from Joseph Breuer; Breuer claimed that he successfully treated a woman by hypnotizing her and tracing back her symptoms to the traumatic experience of her father dying (Sigmund). Freud later dropped the idea of hypnosis and started analyzing dreams believing that many unconscious desires could be found through dreams (Sigmund). Freud developed psychoanalysis further by determining the most powerful unconscious force; he believed that sexual desires at an early age were shut down by the conscious but remained heavily in the unconscious (Sigmund). He wrote Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality which were violently protested at first but were later accepted in to almost every school of psychology. His fame can be spotted in the books that have been written and the movies that have been produced about Holmes. Poe s works were able to influence the author of the Sherlock Holmes series, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, in which he based the character of Sherlock Holmes off of one of Poe s characters whose name was Dupin who was used in the mystery story The Murders in the Rue Morgue. The similarities between the two characters are quite grand. Both are solitary men who prefer to live quietly in either isolation or in the company of one close companion. • 19. Sexuality In Dracula After decades of cheesy horror movies, the image of vampires has been misconstrued as sparkly, angsty teenage boys or handsome men that lure in girls for the fresh blood of a virgin. Many of these stereotypical vampires are influenced by the story of Dracula, held in the Victorian era. Yet, many of the stories published about vampires diverge from the message that Bram Stoker is trying to make. During the Victorian period, sexuality is repressed by society, as sexual behaviors from women are viewed as unacceptable. In the Gothic horror novel Dracula, Bram Stoker uses the traumatic experience of Jonathan Harker at Count Dracula s castle and the invasion of vampires in Great Britain to create a social commentary on the sexual repression occurring in this era and its detrimental effect on the men. Throughout the entire novel, Stoker hints at sexual references, based on the characters actions. In every encounter with female vampires, there is a perverse tone in the wordings of the passage. For example, during Jonathan Harker s visit to Count Dracula s castle, he encounters three vampire sisters after he disobeys Dracula s order to not leave his room. Harker s heart has a wicked, burning desire (Stoker 32) that the three sisters would kiss him. He shows carnal desires as he is approached by these vampires, unable to refuse their advances on to him, despite his loyalty to Mina. Condemned for her inconstancy, that is to say her lust, Francesca is contained in the eternal whirlwind of the `bufera infernale , alongside her lover, Paolo. In a clear parallel to her sin, she is buffeted by the inconstant wind. Although unceasing, the wind changes direction and force, a movement which is mirrored by the language used to describe it: Di qua, di l #224;, di gi #249;, di su li mena; nulla speranza li conforta mai, non che di posa, ma minor pena. (43 45, Canto V, Inf.) In addition to the basic rhyme of the terza rima, the internal rhyme is carefully manipulated to imitate phonologically the swirling of the wind. By balancing the repeated [a] of `di qua, di la with the [u:] of the `di gi #249;, di su , Dante is able to mimic the up and down movement of the air. Francesca, then, is an extremely `mobile sinner. Although pausing to speak to Dante (the significance of which will be later discussed), she is compelled to move indeed, it is an integral part of her punishment. This compulsion is significant. Research Paper On Constructivism Constructivism: A Review Abstract Constructivism is an all encompassing theory of learning that emerged as a prevailing paradigm in the last part of the twentieth century. Constructivism is a theory which brings cogitation to pedagogy (Bruner, 1966). Constructivism capitalizes on the ways in which human beings create their own personal construct of reality by understanding and experiencing the world. The cornerstone of constructivism is that constructing personal meaning is ingrained in individuals right from the birth (Vygotsky, 1978). The Overview Constructivist approach explains the ways in which learners make their own personal senses of learning tasks, the environment, the teacher, and the actual process of learning (Vygotsky, 1962). Learner learns by interacting in a social context of teacher and text. Each individual learner is sui generis, no two learners are the same. The ways they view the world are not the same. Learners bring these differences to the learning situation. Teachers must be cognizant of these differences. Furthermore no two teachers and teaching situations are ever the same. Like students, teachers should become self aware of their beliefs and attitude to the teaching and learning and make their own contributions to the learner as the situations arise (Williams and Burden, 1997). • 33. Salmonell A Common Bacteria The importance of doing this investigation was necessary as this microorganism, Salmonella is a common bacteria encountered in daily life. Salmonella is a bacterium that is found in a wide variety of animals and mammals (Weese and Fulford, 2011). Gram negative bacteria exhibit appendages on outer surfaces known as pili (Lo et al., 2014). The pili is also named fimbriae, these are chains of protein that form filaments that extend from the outer surface of bacterial cells enabling them to adhere to any host target cell (Proft and Baker, 2009; Kang and Baker, 2012). This makes the pili of clinical importance when assessing clinical manifestation; particularly in pathogenic organisms, when developing drugs such as vaccines (Kang and Baker, 2012). Currently, the use of pili in vaccine development is widespread in research (Wizeman et al, 1999). This suggests that the pilus is the basic structural subunit in all bacterial cells. Studying Salmonella is vital in understanding how SafD operates and possible clinical problems posed to individuals, due to the different strains of the bacterium that have been previously discovered. Although Salmonella has been identified and classified into different classifications, it has undergone multiple changes and the main nomenclature system is yet to be established (Chiu, Lin Hui, 2014). The genus which Salmonella belongs to is known as the Enterobacteriaceae family (Chu and Su, 2004; Farmer, 1995). Salmonella is a gram negative rod shaped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Medellin has benefitted from the effects of globalization in the security and energy efficiency sector, especially with the emergence of the Metrocables (Brand, 2013). However, globalization has yet to have a significant impact on the political and economic developmentof the city, and even throughout Colombia itself. Despite the lack of impact caused by globalizationin these areas, they have still improved in comparison to their prior status in the 1990 s (Moncada, 2016). Medellin can use globalization as a tool to decrease unemployment rates and increase the value of their economy, which they have begun to do in moderation. Those who were previously excluded from the effects of globalization in Medellin are slowly being integrated into the globalizing of the city with the development of the Metrocables, with the intention of establishing the government s concern for those living in disadvantaged areas, since the Metrocables are built in the poorest sectors of Medellin (Brand, 2013). The areas that these Metrocables are situated in have seen commercial changes, resulting in the number of businesses multiplying and thus creating new job opportunities for those who are unemployed and growing the economic sector of globalization in Medellin (Agudelo, et al. 2013). The curator must be wise, include art pieces that flow with the theme of the exhibit, as well as educates the visitor. Curating this exhibit, I have chosen three works of ancient Greek art that will inform visitors about three of the most well known Greek gods. A slab from the Parthenon frieze of Zeusand Hera, a Kylix of Hadesand Persephone, and the Triumph of Poseidon with his wife Amphitrite. This exhibit would work very well during Valentine s day because the exhibit focuses on the three sons of Cronus and conjointly analyzes the love that each god has for their significant other, which is at times unusual for these Gods. Hades, the oldest son of the titan Cronus and most frequently with Satan from the Christian religion was the rightful heir of Mount Olympus. Unfortunately for him, his unlucky drawing of lots with his brothers Poseidon, and Zeus bound him to the underworld, also known as Hades. For the exhibit, the museum has chosen a wonderful ancient Greek kylix which depicts the daughter of Zeus and the goddess of harvest/ queen of the underworld Persephone, and the king of the underworld Hades. • 37. Pathophysiology Of The Following Signs And Symptoms 7.Explain the pathophysiology of the following signs and symptoms: a.Polyuria: is more than normal or increased urine output. Water homeostasis is controlled by a complex balance of water intake, renal perfusion, glomerular filtration and tubular reabsorption of solutes, and reabsorption of water from the renal collecting ducts. When intake of water increases, blood volume rises and blood osmolality falls, lowering the release of ADH (arginine vasopressin, which promotes water reabsorption) in the hypothalamic pituitary system. With the lowering of ADH there is a rise in urine volume, which allows blood osmolality to return to normal. Urine containing large amounts of glucose has high osmotic pressure, which attracts water, so that urine output rises (osmotic diuresis). b.Polydipsia: increased fluid intake. It is due to high blood glucose that raises the osmolality of blood and makes it more concentrated. With frequent urination, increase water intake becomes necessary. Severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalance can occur. Diabetes may cause blood glucose levels to rise which can lead to increased glucose levels that cause one s body to pull fluid from cells into the bloodstream and deliver the increased load to the kidneys. This can cause one s kidneys to over work and produce more urine than normal. c.Polyphagia: increased food intake is due to loss or excess glucose in urine that leads the body to crave for more glucose. Thank You For Arguing Summary In section 4 of Thank You For Arguing by Jay Heinrichs, Heinrichs starts out by explaining Cicero s five canons of persuasion that include: invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. Invention is the start of the persuasion and the thought of what is wanted to be accomplished. Then, the issue itself needs to be figured out and resolved. Finally, the person needs to think about the audience and what their values are. That will get an individual a start on the art of persuasion. Arrangement is how a person is going to arrange an argument so the persuasion is the most impactful. Arrangement comes down to this rule of thumb Ethos first. Then logos. Then pathos. (283). Proper language is one of the styles which are words that suit the occasion and my audience (287). Heinrichs also explains the style of clarity, which is speaking to make the words obvious and straight facts. Also, Memory is used to create an image in the audience s minds to make them feel and imagine what the individual is talking about to persuade the audience more impactfully. Finally, the fifth canon of persuasion is delivery and how the person uses body language, along with your voice, rhythms, and breathing (290). Voice is key in delivery especially in the volume of the voice and how the audience emphasises the tone of the speaker. Towards the end of the novel, Heinrichs reiterates on a few keywords including: goals, ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos. Heinrichs also states examples of situations when these tools are needed. Many people questioned how such a candidate could run for office, much less hold one of the most powerful positions on Earth. In attempting to uncover how Trump could be victorious in an electoral race against Hillary Clinton, this paper will analyze four key factors in a general election: the fundamentals, campaigns, the media, and the voters. Each factor provides insight on how Trump was able to be successful in his pursuit of the presidency, but they do not begin to tell the complete tale. Political science research stresses the importance of the fundamentals in an election, if candidates can successfully take advantage of them. The fundamentals refer to a group of three factors that serve as background to the campaign and are variables that the candidate themselves cannot change. According to Gary Jacobson and many other political scientists, the fundamentals of any campaign are the incumbency of any candidate or party, the current state of the economy, and the popularity of the president. The presence of an open seat during a presidential race strongly affects the election. Races with an open presidential seat are much more competitive, as incumbent candidates possess a very strong advantage. In the past eight electionsfeaturing an incumbent candidate, seven have been won by the incumbent (Campbell 2016). Further, it is even more difficult for a party to extend its ... The most creative use of rubber was not for agriculture, construction, or warfare, but a deadly ceremonial sport. Murals found at a dig site in Teotihuacan suggests that at one point, this sport was played with wooden sticks, but the most common played method of the game used no extra equipment; players kept the ball in play using their hips. While the game play varied from city to city, the game rules of play were basically the same throughout Mesoamerica of that era. The game was played in large stone courts and informally on fields in major Mesoamerican cities. Proof shows that Aztec games were eventually played with stone hoops where players could score points by hitting the hoop with the ball or win the game outright by getting the ball through the hoop. Tlachtli was a serious matter to the players and to the cultures of Mesoamerica. The game was intense and serious and sometimes fatal injuries were inflicted by the solid, heavy nine pound ball.
