The Circulatory System In The Human Heart
The Circulatory System
The circulatory system
The circulatory system is a vast network of organs and vessels that is responsible for the flow of
blood, nutrients, hormones, oxygen and other gases to and from cells. Without the circulatory
system, the body would not be able to fight disease or maintain a stable internal environment such
as proper temperature and pH known as homeostasis. (Live Science, 2017)
Main keys roles
The most important role of the cardiovascular system is maintaining a normal, healthy, balanced
movement.
The cardiovascular system is often called the blood vascular, or simply the circulatory system. It
consists of the heart, and a closed system of vessels called arteries, veins, and capillaries.
The Effect of exercise on the heart
Your heart pumps blood at a fast pace to pump extra food and oxygen to the muscles. When, you
exercise your body, has to pumps more blood. This is because when you exercise, the cells that
are in your muscles need more energy to move. Your muscles get this energy from respiration.
This chemical reaction uses up oxygen to release energy from glucose. This then travels in the
blood, so if your muscles need more oxygen and glucose, they get it from the blood. So now we
know that when you exercise, your body pumps more blood, which makes your pulse rate faster.
The Human Heart
Structure
In humans, the heart is located among the lungs. The human heart is situated to the left of the
middle of your chest. A

The Effects Of Climate Change On Ecosystems
Introduction One of the most important environmental influences on ecosystems is climate.
Greenhouse gas pollution is acquiring heat in the atmosphere and inordinately raising global
temperatures. Colorado, for example, has warming predictions of 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit by 2025
and up to 4 degrees by 2050. The impact of climatechange can and will affect ecosystems in
numerous forms. Such an impact is that warming of the climate will compel a variety of species to
shift to higher elevations in order to find a temperaturethat more closely relates to the species
survival. This migration can also be related to warming causing tree lines to rise several hundred
feet per degree Fahrenheitthat temperature rises thus removing habitat for many species.
Warming will also cause a flux in precipitation and snowpack which can lead to wetland areas
and stream temperatures to rise and alter habitats of cold water fish. Climate change also
directly affects sea levels as melting of polar caps are causing them to rise. This can cause salt
water to intrude upon freshwater ecosystems and these species may not be able to adapt and they
lose their habitats and must advance elsewhere or perish. This shock can also cause different
predatory and prey species to leave which drastically alters the food chain and causing critters to
starve or migrate to different areas where they may not be able to adapt and causing them to

Non-Linear Narrative Structures Have Deeply Influenced How...

Non linear narrative structures have deeply influenced how subjects are presented in visual culture.
Joanne Duff DT545 Vis Com 1st Year
Non linear narrative structures have deeply influenced how subjects are presented in visual culture.
The first movie I looked at was IrrГ©versible, a French movie written, directed and produced by
Gasper NoГ©. NoГ© employs a non linear narrative to force the audience to think about the actions
taken by those seeking vengeance before the reasons behind these actions are known. The movie is
told in reverse order, beginning with the main character murdering the person he believed brutally
attacked his girlfriend. The intention of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
NoГ© places these scenes in the first half of the movie, to give us a different perspective on the
characters and their lives. The film ends with scenes depicting Marcus and Alex happy together,
which the viewer must watch while knowing exactly how things will end for them. We also learn
that the man Marcus and Pierre murdered in the gay club wasn t the man they were looking for,
we realise that Le Tenia was standing beside this man, and stood transfixed as he watch them
viciously beat the man they believed to be him. Alex is attacked by Le Tenia
The attack in the club and the rape scene are so cruel and graphic that they are rendered almost
unwatchable, which is how NoГ© intended them to be. The violence is unglamorised and gritty;
the rape scene is completely non sexual and uncomfortably long. The non linear narrative of
IrrГ©versible is what makes the movie interesting, if the movie story was told in a linear way it
wouldn t create the same interest in the lives of the characters. We wouldn t feel the same about
happy characters whose lives are ruined as we would about something terrible happening to the
characters and then to watch them living happily oblivious to the events that will ruin their lives.
He presents us the events in an order which makes us think about the nature of these events in a
different way.

The Importance Of Modernism In Literature
Modernism, a constantly debated term, is a philosophical movement that emerged during the late
19th and early 20th centuries, following World War I. Painters, writers, and musicians did not
however perceive it just as a period in time, rather as a commitment to experimentation in
techniques, freedom in ideas, originality in perceptions, and self examination in emotions
(Baughman, Bondi, Layman...etc,1) Writers, for example, like James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and
Ernest Hemingwaybroke away from the traditional and conventional techniques to create their own
literary voice. Joyce s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Woolf s Jacob s Room, and
Hemingway s In Our Time each exemplify distinctive styles in ideology, art, culture, and politics
which eventually became what the modernist movement, also known as the avant garde,
appertained to. While their childhood s affected their writing, Hemingway s minimalistic technique
of composition in In Our Time, and Joyce and Woolf s prolific amount of attention to detail in A
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Jacob s Room affected the growth of the modernist
movement.
Virginia Woolf and James Joyce s similar upbringing shaped them into the people they are today.
English modernist writer and critic, Adeline Virginia Stephen, commonly acknowledged as
Virginia Woolf, was born on January 25, 1882 in London, England and died on March 28, 1941.
Woolf was born into a typical Victorian family, where the father of the family was the

The Wild Horse Race
On July 4th, 1935, El Paso, Texas was holding their annual Wild Horse race. Cowboys from all
over the country gather around to watch all of Texas s best cowboys. Children gathered around
with excitement in their eyes. This year has been rumoured to be the best one yet. The town had
supplied some of the best horses that have ever been and the cowboys were ready in every way to
wrangle them.
Everyone was watching for one cowboy in particular, a cowboy rumored to be the best in the
whole country. His name was Carl Owen, a young man from a small town in Oklahoma. The horse
race had a high level of danger due to the kicking of the horses and the chaos. Carl did not care.
He was a true cowboy. Whenever the time came for the Wild Horse Race to start, everyone
surrounded the arena and Carl stepped up to the fence with the other cowboys. The horses were

With the dirt blowing like a tornado many people couldn t tell what was going on. Also, while
doing this, he risked his reputation of not winning first place because some of the other men were

a gorilla mother carrying its child. Carl was not one to give up, so he continued to wrangle the
horses successfully even with the extra load on his back.
While his back was turned, a horse lifted its legs to kick. All of the air is sucked out of the room
as the audience watched in shock. One of the horse s hooves caught him in the head and he fell.
Carl fell to the ground where he lay unconscious. All of the other horses had been wrangled by the

Persuasive Essay On Alzheimer s Disease
Imagine, a thirty year old woman wants to start her own family but has family history of
Alzheimer s disease and has tested positive for the Alzheimer s genes as well. In fear of passing on
the disease to her child, she underwent preimplantation genetic diagnosis, also known as PGD. The
woman decided to implant embryos without the Alzheimer s geneinto her womb and months later,
she gave birth to a healthy baby, free of the Alzheimer s gene. Currently, preimplantation genetic
diagnosisis mostly only used in similar cases, like eliminating the possibility to obtain life
affecting diseases. Many people would agree that PGD is for the great good of the planet but

Firstly, being able to detect genetic disorders, such as Down Syndrome, could result in the parents
aborting the fetus. Margaret Somerville said in Choosing The Perfect Child, In short, the new
genetics is functioning as eugenics, but that fact is not identified. Decisions by individuals
based on preimplantation genetic diagnosis of IVF embryos, or prenatal screening of foetuses

our society. In short, an outcome that would never be acceptable as public policy is being
implemented through the accumulation of individual choices (actionlife.org). To abort a child
because of their genes are incorrect and need extra assistance with daily chores is selfish and
inhuman. Not to mention, if a family had PGD on their child and received a false positive result,
the unborn child could very well be killed needlessly. Then secondly, if all PGD got rid of all

Fly In The Fly
Bugs and insects are often used as literary devices in very different ways, yet they mostly have
some kind of connection to the protagonists lives, their emotions and their character traits. The
insect s outward appearance stands in sharp contrast to that of a human being in fiction, yet its
character traits or emotions are personified in order to be similar to those of the humanprotagonist.
This contrast is what makes stories like these so effective. This is, to a certain extent, also the case
in The Fly by Katherine Mansfield even though here the human protagonist, the boss, is the one
actively projecting his inner self onto the insect. In fact, it is possible to say that the fly is used as a
reflector: it reflects the boss s idealised... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to mention that the only way the boss is able to process his son s death is
through crying but one day he fails to cry, starting the inevitable road to his spiritual death (cf.
Boyle 183). More indications of the relation between the failure of the boss and that of the fly
are found on page 164: Nothing happened or was likely to happen (Mansfield 164). This can be
seen as a reference to the tears the boss ceases to cry and is most likely not going to be able to
cry ever again. The aspect of failure also becomes obvious when looking at the way the fly is
described throughout the last two pages: It was ready for life again (Mansfield 163). This shows
not only the fly s victory of surviving the fall into the inkpot but also the new hope the boss finds
in observing the fly and testing its limits. This hope, however, dies when the fly dies.
As
mentioned before, the boss experiences his spiritual death (Boyle 183) at the end of the story
which is emphasised and illustrated by the death of the fly. The story, therefore, doesn t seem to
be mainly about the death of the fly really but about how the fly s death stands for the boss s
spiritual death. It is mainly caused by his inability to properly grieve for his son anymore, which
leads him to loose all kinds of human feelings. Boyle examines the aspect of the spiritual death
in greater detail and explains the connection between the blots of ink and the boss s grief very
well, saying the struggles of the fly with the blots of ink, in fact, parallel the struggles of the
boss with his grief for his son (184). According to Boyle, the love for the boss s son could be
substituted with the grief he feels after his son s death. (185) It is therefore logical to assume that
the moment he stopped grieving, he stopped loving to a

Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release And Why It s also For You
Myofascial Release is a very reliable type of bodywork that helps to minimize pain and stiffness,
and offers you back your energy. It is also called manual treatment, or hands on therapy/ recovery.
It is a mild kind of stretching and balancing which has a profound result upon the body tissues.
There are numerous different kinds of myofascial release. Physiotherapists whom are specialized
trained by John Barnes have remarkable devices to assist you. He is the founder of the most widely
allowed, gentle and reliable kind of myofascial release.
To understand how this connects to your body better it might help to comprehend a little about the

Often remarkable improvement is kept in mind immediately during or after a treatment. In some

All of these are normal reactions of the body to the profound, however positive, modifications that

soot covered tree environment showed that the environment favours dark coloured body allele in
moths; 60% dark coloured moths and 40% light coloured moths made up the moth population. The
results are supported by Darwin s theory of natural selection; the genes that are best suited to the

In turn, there would be a more significant difference in the ratio between the favoured allele to the

because the light coloured moths in the gizmo were easier to spot in their light coloured tree

mind is another factor to this stimulation that differs from the real situation and decreases accuracy,
because a human mind may not possible think and see the same things a bird may. The human mind
will search more intently for the camouflaged moths than a bird would, because the bird would just
want food and not care about whether or not they found any of the hidden moths, whereas the
human mind searches for both coloured moths. The gizmo is more accurate than a real life

Similarities Between Rainbows End And Rabbit Proof Fence
Discovery Speech Year 12 2017
(Rainbows End Rabbit Proof Fence)
Whether intensely meaningful or confronting, discovery has the power to be transformative
How accurately does this statement reflect the view of discovery explored in Rainbows End and in
the Rabbit Proof Fence?
Discovery is the process by which our lives are enriched, a discovery is a transformative process
that influences the values and perceptions of an individual, group or even the world, it is through
discovery that we grow and begin to view our lives in a new way. Both Rainbows end written by
Jane Harrison and Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce both support this statement through
many techniques such as Flashbacks, Camera Angles, Music, Foreshadowing and Literary
Techniques. This is displayed mainly though the characters Nan Dear from Rainbows End and
Molly Craig from the Rabbit Proof Fence, both of these characters make the most powerful
transformative discoveries as they already had set opinions from the beginning.
Jane Harrison from Rainbows End conveys Nan Dear as an unmovable character. Nan Dears
opinions and attitudes were very fixed from the beginning of the play, this makes Nan Dears
transformational discovery a very large impact in the play. Due to specific events such as the
Stolen Generation and the Rape forced by Mr Fisher that Nan Dear had experienced has made her
believe that white people are all bad . Due to these events Nan dear tries to protect the girls from all

Analysis Of The Crucible And Half Hanged Mary
The Crucible and Half Hanged Mary were written and based off of the Salem Witch trials. The
Salem witch trials occurred in colonial Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693. More than 200
people were accused of practicing witchcraft and 20 were executed. Eventually, the colony
admitted the trials were a mistake and compensated the families of those convicted. This is
similar to today in that today, people are being accused of things they haven t done just because
they look a certain way or are similar to the people who actually did something bad. Being
falsely accused of something can send people into hysterics and send them into a downward
spiral. While both Atwood and Miller both seek to reveal the injustices incurred by the victims
of the Salem witch trials, Miller focuses on the effects of hysteria and religious zealotry on
society, while Atwood aims to commemorate the excruciating experience of a single victim. In
Half hanged Mary, the use of first person allows the reader to read the thoughts of the person
speaking or thinking and allows the connection between reader and character to grow. While in
the crucible, having the reader be told the story from the narrator s perspective allows the reader a
window to see into each and every character s thoughts. Miller wanted to show everything going on
from the thought of every character to what the character says. Miller writes, (laughing bitterly)...

statement is To explore, enjoy and protect the planet. To practice and promote the responsible use of
the earth s ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the
quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out those
objectives. Some of the core beliefs that this club has is that the members must have an
understanding of the problem they are trying to solve from the local weather all the way to the

Television Dbq
Effects of Television on Coverage People say television has increased people s awareness of
politics to make elections more fair and accessible. However, I think TV has had a negative impact
because it promotes a superficial image and provides content that will give the TV station good
ratings.
Television promotes the candidates image over their policies. Instead of the candidates discussing
what they are going to do for the country, they simply argue why they are better than each other.
The candidates being televised gives the audience a sense of knowing them, which causes them to
no longer feel the need for party guidance (Source B). In other words, the audience no longer feels
the need of the politician s policies due to basing their judgments on the superficial characteristics.
In a recent political debate, candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton argued that their images

Pros And Cons Of Painkillers
Is the misuse of painkillers worth losing a life? A study was performed in West Virginia looking
at 295 accidental deaths from pain killers and found nearly 2 out of 3 of those who died
overdosed on pain killers, did not have a prescription (Shmerling, 2008). Today in society, there
are many prescription pain killers physicians can choose from to administer to patients.
However, statistics show that the most common narcotic painkillers used are Oxycodone,
Percocet, and Vicodin. The number of people abusing prescription drugs, including opioids,
more than doubled, from 7.8 million in 1992 to 15.1 million in 2003 (Gupta Christo, 2009). The
misuse of prescription painkillers among the general population in the United States is quickly
rising to a state of an epidemic. Many people today take prescription painkillers to help cope with
pain. Even though prescription painkillers can provide relief of excessive pain, the result of taking
prescription painkillers is not always a good outcome. Taking these painkillers can easily lead to a

Galilen s Impact On The Scientific Revolution
The Scientific Revolution was crucial for the development of science. During the 16th and 17th
century, after the reformation, the scientific revolution had begun. The scientific methods and
thoughts had seen change, however the members of the church did not like this. From the
renaissance and the enlightenment, many individuals were interested in contributing to the world
with their ideas ands many individuals were able to formulate conclusions. There were three men
that were crucial in shaping the scientific revolution. Galileo was a crucial figure in shaping the
scientific revolution in various subjects including astronomy. Nicoloaus Copernicus was a key
figure and changed the way man viewed the universe. As well as, Isaac Newtonis known as one of
the most influential figures due to his contributions in astronomy. The impact of the scientific
revolution was positive as seen through Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, and Nicoloaus Copernicus.
Galileo had a positive impact on the scientific revolution as he contributed to physics, astronomy,
mathematics and philosophy. He has constructed his own telescope in 1609 and the telescope
helped him see and be able to explain the rings of Saturn, the moons of Jupiter and the phases of

The Lynching Of Lynching, By Ida B. Wells Barnett
Ida B. Wells Barnett: The Lynching of Lynching
During the latter 19th and early 20th centuries racism and racial segregation were considerable
problems. Mob violence, including lynchings were responsible for the deaths of thousands of
black men, women and children, often for crimes they had no part in or which were not even
committed. Ida B. Wells Barnett was born into slavery by James and Elizabeth Wells during the
Civil War. She attended Rust College, which was partly founded by her father in Mississippi.
After Wells parents died of yellow fever, she attained a teaching position at a local school by lying
about her age. After some time teaching she moved to Memphis with two of her sisters, where she
acquired another teaching position and continued her schooling at Fisk University. While her
professional life was moderately successful, her personal life was dismal, however, it is the very
qualities that problematize her personal relationships... that will impel her to undertake... a
courageous crusade against lynching (DeCosta Willis). Being a freed black woman in the south,
Wells had firsthand knowledge of the segregation and racial tension of the time. This knowledge
and her experiences gave her insights about the South that were crucial in her successful crusade
against lynching and segregation.

was ready to work these boys and get them ready for the season. They needed to be in tip top
shape to win it all. The team had shown Rake poor effort in a scrimmage, leading to a rare
Sunday morning practice. This would be a full out conditioning practice. No contact football, just
conditioning. The boys were there and ready at eight o clock on that Sunday morning, with thick
humidity in the air. Practice started with a mile around the track for a warm up, followed by
another mile. Number two on the list of dreaded tortures, just behind the Spartan Marathon, was
the assault on the bleachers (Grisham 74). Up and down, side to side on both the guest and home
bleachers. This was the hardest conditioning. Rake had been conditioning for years and these boys
could push themselves. He believed in them. As Scotty Reardon, a sophomore player began to
weaken in his bleacher workout, everyone else kept going. Before anyone knew, Scotty passed out.

Denver Developmental Screening Test Analysis
The Denver Developmental Screening Test, is a screening tool developed to identify young
children 0 6 years of age at risk for developmental delay and disability. Its format is comparable to
the structure of pediatric growth charts, and is divided into four distinct developmental domains:
personal social, fine motor adaptive, language, and gross motor. The test can be administered with
ease, in less than an hour and scoring is based on observation, and parental reporting (Encyclopedia
of Autism Spectrum Disorders). The data is coincided in relation to normative values on a curve

and she had no difficulty engaging in conversation with me. S.G. failed two tasks; defining
seven words in the Language category, and balancing on each foot for 4, 5 and 6 seconds. The
chronological age line does not fall through the blue part of the bar for those specific tasks, and
therefore it is not concerning. Although she did not succeed in completing these two tasks,
today s Denver Developmental Screening Test was normal. It was a pleasure performing this
test on S.G. and, if given the chance to reassess her I would perform the exam in a more private

The 1950s Rock N Roll Movement
Introduction
The 1950s rock n roll movement was rooted from a style of music created by black people and
their descendants (Scaruffi, 2005). The lives of Americans were changed, as the older
generation looked down upon this genre and life style, while the young generation fell in love
with it ( America, 2008). Artist of the 1950s played a huge roll in the ideas that influenced every
aspect of it such as legends Buddy Holly and Little Richard. From moral changes to political
changes rock n roll arrived to America ready to make an everlasting impact (Stewart, 2008).
Although the decades have passed, and the times have changed rock n roll holds a legacy that will
forever impact the lives of people as a whole.
Foundations Of Rock n Roll
After World War 2, the world was faced with a bipolar world of the two winners: the USSR and
the US (Scaruffi, 2005). The world was left with international bitterness and resentment and unlike
other wars, a war on ideology. The war changed almost every aspect of life, because ideologies
and morals began to shift and change. The post War era had brought along with it many new
technologies such as the boom of cars, computers and even ... Show more content on

Rock n roll was not a specific genre but it led to many different genres and styles of music to be
created. Since rock n roll was founded on the basis of folk and blues many of the first artists were
black, but were given little credit at the time such as Little Richard, whose song Tutti Frutti was
covered by Pat Boone, and topped higher on music charts ( Music, 2004). The first rock n roll
band was formed (the Comets) by white artist Bill Haley in 1952, and they quickly began to
climb Billboard charts making the first rock n roll song to enter the Billboard charts (Scaruffi,
2005). The Comets showed that rock n roll was an instant hit,and there was a big audience hungry

Criticism Of Quicksand
Quicksand: A constant search for a satisfactory life
The time period that the fiction sets is the 1920s, when the society was experiencing significant
transformations in every aspect of life. The Progressive Movement, which aimed at eliminating
various means of political corruption and illegal business practices, had just abated. Harlem
Renaissance, a new element of the 1920s, took place in City of New York and its effect swept
across the country. Harlem Renaissance, a rebirth of African American culture and art, exerted
substantial influence on black people, regardless of the social status and wealth they had.
Nevertheless, such splendid cultural explosion could not conceal the limitations and inequality of
the 1920s. Gender and race restrictions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Conservatives And Liberals
In the world of politics, there are two main political parties in the U.S. These two parties are
conservatives and liberals. Conservatives are traditionally the Republican Party while liberals are
the Democratic Party. Conservatives want to maintain the traditional values and want to conserve
existing structure. Conservatives support limited government involvement in the private sphere,
lower taxes, and free market (a disadvantage for minorities). Liberals are more open to progress
and highly reliant in the government to solve problems (Squadrin 4). Liberals support more active
role of government, policies to aid minorities and equal opportunity for all humanbeings. Both
parties have opposing views when it comes to economic, political and social issues. Conservatives
and liberals have different views when it comes to economic policies. According to Squadrin,
author of Conservatives vs. Liberals, Liberals believe that the government should interfere and
regulate the economy of the nation in order to protect citizens from corporate power while
conservatives encourage a free market where the government should not regulate the economic
system of the nation (Squadrin 6). Free market is a system where the prices of goods are
determined by the buyers and government imposes few or no restrictions. Another example of their
economic difference is when it comes to Taxes. Even though they both support low taxes, liberals
believe that wealthy people should pay higher

What Is Graph Theoretical Analysis
1.3.4. Introduction to graph theoretical analysis. The case of brain perfusion SPECT.
In the field of quantitative neuroimaging, graph theoretical analysis is one of the methods to
study brain connectivity [93 95, 100, 101]. A key concept of this method is the notion of
topology. This concept can be illustrated with a simple idea which is used when we travel in the
subway of any large city. In figure 3 two maps of the London subway appear, the first map shows
a precise spatial description of the railways (or lines) through which trains travel (i.e., the subway
topography), whereas the second one is only concerned with the relative locations of subway
stations and connecting lines (i.e., the subway topology). These two maps do not coincide with
regards to the relative position of the stations, neither in the distances nor in the location of the
lines. However, the topological map simplifies the problem for the traveler. For example, two
stations may be physically (topographically) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By simply inspecting the topological maps, it is not easy to know if one subway is better
organized than the other (e.g., subway efficiency). One way to simplify this problem is to use
metrics that quantify or analyze the subway network using graph theory [94, 101]. Hence the name
of graph theoretical analysis.
A first aspect to measure could be how easy it is to travel between any two stations (e.g. the
number of stations on average, between the start and end of the trip). This aspect is relevant,
especially if the traveler wants to visit different parts of the city on the same day. This example
illustrates the concept of global efficiency of a graph [94, 101]. The metric of global efficiency is a
way to quantify the global connectivity (integration) of the network. In this example, it is assumed
that the number of stations (nodes) and lines (connectors) are the same in the two subways that are

Term Limits Benefits
I think that U.S. Senators and Representatives should have term limits. Since they do not have term
limits they might take the power and use it to their advantage. If we did have term limits then
things would be done wisely and quicker. Term limits would be a good thing for government
corruption. If we had limits that stated how long terms could be served and how many there could
be then it would definitely reduce corruption in the government. Term limits would keep people
honest. They would be kept honest, so that senators and representatives don t have the time to
create long lasting relationships with corrupt businesses and contractors. Term limits would also

Fish Oil
Exercise induced muscle damage results in decreased muscle force production, increased muscular
tension as well as muscle soreness and swelling. This subsequently leads to a reduction in physical
performance and ability to maintain training load (Howatson van Someren, 2008).
Eccentric muscle contraction can be defined as muscle loading that involves an external force
application with tension, increased during physical lengthening of the musculotendinous unit
(Albert, 1995, p.1). Eccentric exercise results in a greater amount of muscle damage than concentric
training as the contracting muscle is forcibly lengthened; this also leads to a greater inflammatory
response. There are two prominent signs of muscle damage after eccentric exercise, ... Show more

It is the mechanisms by which it works that suggest it could potentially have many positive benefits
for athletes. Fish oil has been shown to have an anti inflammatory effect, because fatty acids EPA
and DHA can partially inhibit some parts of the inflammatory process including leucocyte
chemotaxis; adhesion molecule expression and leucocyte endothelial adhesive interactions;
production of eicosanoids such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes from the n 6 fatty acid
arachidonic acid; production of inflammatory cytokines and T cell reactivity (Calder, 2013).
Tartibian, Maleki and Abbasi (2011) found that markers of inflammation, PGE2, IL 6, TNF a, LDH,
CK, and Mb, were reduced 24 and 48 hours after an eccentric exercise program, consisting of
bench stepping, in those untrained males who used a fish oil supplement (containing 324mg
EPA and 216mg DHA) for 30 days prior to the program. Reductions in inflammatory markers
associated with muscle damage, particularly delayed onset of muscle soreness make these
findings particularly significant and highlight the potential importance of the use of fish oil as a
supplement, as reducing inflammation and therefore speeding up recovery allows for a greater
capacity to train and develop. Oostenbrug et al. (1997) found that exercise performance, as
measured by validated exercise tests (W max test; Endurance exercise test), was not significantly
altered by fish oil or fish oil and vitamin E supplementation after 3 weeks. Leaf and Rauch (1988)
however, did find an increase in VO2 max in well trained subjects after daily supplementation with
6g of fish oil for 6 weeks. Suggesting that in the right quantity it may have some positive benefits

My Mother who Came from China, She Never Saw the Snow
Every person in the world has struggles, but some have more than others. Some people work for
multiple hours for very little pay. Immigrant factory workers rarely get the chance to enjoy the
better qualities in life. In the poem, My Mother, Who Came from China Where She Never Saw
Snow , Laureen Mar tells about an Immigrant mother from china works in a factoryfor very little
pay. She had worked for twenty five years and never gotten a raise. In the poem Laureen Mar uses
imagery, irony, and punctuation to demonstrate the harshness that immigrant factory workers are
put through.
The description of the factory and workers helps demonstrate what kind of working conditions
there were. Laureen s description details the factory to show the dark and gloomy environment
they work in every day. The narrator describes the room as a standard factory, In the huge,

Not only is the environment depressing, but the workers also have poor working conditions.
Consequently the workers have adapted to the environment, but also adapted to the relentless
work. The female workers day in and day out work constantly, conditioned to do the same thing
over and over. Laureen describes, Ten rows of women hunch over machines, / their knees pressing
against pedals / and pushing the shiny fabric thick as tongues / through metal and thread (3 5).

Discrimination Against Catholics
Discrimination is defined as negative attitudes or behavior between people with differences.
Frequently, opponents label each other with spiteful words. However religious discrimination can
lead to violence. Many times religious discrimination can cause judgment during employment,
limited educational opportunities, and restrictive social interaction. Throughout the centuries,
Judaism, Catholicism, and Islamhave been negatively persecuted by numerous communities.
Religious discrimination has impeded the right and ability of Jews, Catholics , and Muslims to

If a Jew practiced freely during turbulent times such as The Holocaust and the Russian pogrom,
then he would most likely be killed or severely injured. The people of the world have been blind
and judgmental many times. A different culture and different beliefs caused Judaism and the other
ways of life to butt heads. This caused freedom of religion to be removed from the lives of the
Jewish people experiencing these tragic trials.
Discrimination against Catholicism restricts Catholics ability to practice freedom of religion.
Discrimination against Catholics began from the creation of this religion; however, one of the
most prominent times that it occurred was during presidential elections in America. It arose when
Al Smith, a Catholic ran for president. His career started in New York as a governor, and soon

along with popularity came disapproval. In 1924, he was denied the presidential nomination

throughout the campaign (Dolan 1). During the campaign, the KKK burned crosses wherever he

Prometheus And Zeus Start From Different Sides Of An...
Originating from different sides of an ancient and bloody war, Prometheus and Zeus start from
different ends of a spectrum. As a young god, Zeus is thereby a young ruler. His inexperience in
ruling is obvious. Zeus had established his reign by violently overthrowing his father in a bloody
war and spread his rule through subjugation. By imprisoning Cronusand the Titans in Tartarus and
appointing his relatives and children in positions under him, Zeusforcefully raised himself into the
position of a supreme ruler. Zeus knows no methods apart from vigorous and powerful ones in order
to maintain his authority. In the beginning of the play in which Prometheusis being chained to a
rock, Power and Force act as agents of Zeus and command Hephaestus. Zeus is defined by
strength and harshness. They are the characteristics that have exalted him to his high position as
a supreme ruler and they are now used to pave his way toward absolute dominance. He is harsh,
as all those new to power are harsh (Aeschylus 2). Zeus s cruel methods are noticed and even
criticized by those who serve him. However, none oppose him because of the fear Zeus instilled
into them. And all the same I am required to bear it: it s hard to set aside my father s words
(Aeschylus 2). Hephaestus shows discontent towards Zeus s decisions and only shows obedience
because he is afraid of Zeus. Though he does not oppose Zeus, he sympathizes with Prometheus as
he chains him to a rock. Aah Prometheus, I m sorry

Social Problems from Crime, Criminal Justice,
Juvenile Delinquency, Prison System, and Incarceration
Billy Marquardt There are many different situations going on in the United States. What is going
on in our country becomes a social issues that the whole country will have to deal with. Crime,
criminal justice, juvenile delinquency, the prison system, and incarceration are all problems that
are prevailing in our media. Flaws in the system, violence, and outbreaks are making people more
aware of what is really going on around them. An uneasy feeling has started settling into American
s because of what is happening around them. Either media plays up situations misleading American
s, the people don t like the truths that they are hearing, or a combination of both. It has started a
cause and effect action. Something bad happens in our country and the people retaliate in peaceful
or violent ways. People are starting to treat each other differently because of skin color, job titles,
and gender. This is producing tension with every problematic occurrence.
Crime in the United States from 2014 to 2013 has decreased. According the FBI s page, the
definition of violent crime is, composed of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter,
rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Violent crimes are those offenses that involve force or threat

Essay On Globalization And Trade Opportunities
Topic: Globalization and Trade opportunities
General Purpose: To Inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the opportunities brought by globalization when
trade is concerned.
Thesis: Globalization trade opportunities as the world has become closer and tied in client demand
and supply structures.
Introduction:
Distinguished Guests, Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen: As salamu alaykum. It is an honor
and a privilege to join you at this meeting, and to reflect with you on trade opportunities between
our two companies. With trade flows between our countries growing at an unprecedented rate,
the timing of your visit could not be better. Indeed, for many years, people have been buying and
selling to one another from all corners of the world. It is impossible for any country rich or poor
as its economy grows, to stay away from a global market where free trade and free movement of
capital are pivotal to a strong economy. As a matter of fact, trade and investment increase job
opportunities all around the world, and foreign money that comes into our companies may result in
access to wider markets. From trade opportunities to investment, the world has become closer, and
tied in client supply and demand structures. Therefore, it s important to acknowledge how
important this meeting is for our two companies. Today, I will address the three main arguments for
trade opportunities, client supply and demand structures in this globalization era, and how
instrumental they are in a company s growth.
Key points:
First, I will discuss globalization and investment in the context of our venture
Second, I will discuss trade opportunities
Finally, I will discuss client supply and demand structures
I stand before you today as a representative of our company. As you know, globalization has
enabled increased levels of investment. It has made it easier for businesses to attract short term and
long term investment. And as a company specialized in construction materials, our goal is to
expand our distribution network to new countries such as Saudi Arabia the largest economy in the
Middle East. We are looking for a Saudi partner to embark in a joint venture. There are several

Characteristics Of Successful Business Leader
There is no perfect skill set for a successful business owner and the cookie cutter approach some
people take is wrong. Businesses vary, and as a result, the skills needed to own and run them vary
also. With that, there are some general traits that successful business leader should have.
1. Optimism:
You must be an optimist because, at some point, you have to see beyond the hard times to see the
better times. Optimism and confidence tend to go together. You, as the businessowner, must be able
to make it through the tough times because you have hope on getting better.
2. Able To Sacrifice:

Most people start a business for self employment as they can t get along with their boss.
5. Common Sense:
As a successful business leader, you need to have the ability to anticipate problems and take steps
to prevent them. Successful businesses look to outsiders like there are rarely any problems. What
they don t see is a business owner that is keeping his/her finger on the pulse of the business and the
industry. When they anticipate changes coming, they take steps to prepare their business in case it
comes about. That preparation and willingness to change can make the difference between success
and failure. Done well and it s just about invisible to anyone except the business owner.
6. Be Organized:
Being organized is a major problem to most of the business leaders. In case you can not handle
various things at the same time, then you shouldn t go into business for yourself. There is NEVER
just one thing going on when you own business. There are customer problems; there are vendor
/supplier problems, and there are competition problems. As a business owner, you have to be able
to quickly know and understand which problems need attention first. You have to be able to
prioritize your problems and know that those same priorities may change on a moments notice.
7. Be a Leader:
People, especially your employees will always be looking to you for answers. Answers about your
products, your market, your competition and just about everything else. As the

Advantages Of A Matrix Organization
What is a matrix organization? A matrix organization is an organization where employees report
their job activities to more than one superior or manager simultaneously. In other words, employees
have a dual reporting obligation to both a departmental manager and a product manager. In
describing a matrix organization, Bauer and Erdogan (2009) explains that employees reporting to
department managers are also pooled together to form project or product teams (p. 326) and in that
case, individual employee report to the project manager and the departmental manager. For instance,
the Dutch electronics giant, Phillips uses matrix management system with its managers reporting to

First, the matrix structure violates the unity of command structure which stipulates that
individual employee in the traditional organization reports to one superior or manager at a time;
in a matrix organization, employees report to two managers which is a vital challenge to
employees and managers involved. This system hinders the coordination of task between
employees and their various managers. Secondly, as a result of reporting to two managers,
conflict cannot be avoided. In other words, each of the presiding managers would want to
determine or have a greater say in assigning a task to an employee while the other manager also
sees it as a legitimate obligation to have an employee fulfill his tasks and report to him.. Bauer
and Erdogan ( 2009) explains that the presence of two managers regulating the behavior of an
employee would greatly increase the level of conflict among the two manager. Similarly, matrix
structure brings about role conflict. For instance, an employee may have an ongoing role to
perform in a project and the departmental manager could find it necessary to assign a separate or
different role for the employee, therefore, create a conflict on the role of the employee in the
project. While it may seem beneficial for managers to be interdependent on each other, it could also
be a challenge to managers because they cannot impose their intentions on a project without

Collaboration of Buying Suppliers in South African...
While there is a varied amount of sectors and/or industries that have major issues and concerns,
the automotive industry in South Africa is a present issue that needs to be considered, (Naude
Weiss, 2011). The OEMs in South Africa are BMW (3 series), Ford (Ranger pickup from 2011),
GM (Corsa pickup, Isuzu pickup), Mercedez Benz (C Class), Nissan/Renault (various sedans and
pickups), Toyota (Corolla 4 door and Hilux pickup), Volkswagen (new and old Polo), (Pitot, 2010).
Government persuade and pressurize automotive assemblers to increase local content but the reality
of the situation is that there local manufacturers aren t as competitive as they would like to be or
they aren t as competitive as those suppliers and automotive assemblers internationally. The reason
being is supply chain issues cause inefficiencies that impact a local automotive assembler to gain
competitiveness, (Naude Weiss, 2011).
The most common drivers of demand distortion are unforeseen sales promotion which have a ripple
effect on the supply chain, lack of customer confidence and cancellations of orders, (Lysons, 2003).
To remain competitive, the automotive industry needs to decrease costs and enhance customer
service levels. Some complexities they may face is rising fuel prices and high manpower costs
which negatively influences the cost of living in today s society. The reason South Africais not
competitive is due to the low percentage of local content in a final product), (Pitot, 2010). If

Color Morphism Lab Report
Sexual selection and genetic color polymorphisms in animals Introduction: Genetic color
polymorphism is an ideal model system, which can be used to study evolutionary stages for
numerous reasons. First, high heritability can be shown from genetic basis that color morphs
provide. Second, separate color morphs can provide visual markers and can be seen in isolated
individuals when observing selection in the wild. With use of morph frequencies, genotype
frequencies can be detected easily and derive allelic frequency modifications over space and time.
There have been numerous Drosophila studies that have used visual eye marker phenotypes to
study evolutionary changes, which have been shown that color morphs can be correlated to strong

Such effect will enhance the heterozygote disadvantage and promote stable polymorphism
emergence as recessive alleles being masked in the process. Genomic architectures tend to favor
speciation by either eliminating or reducing recombination between traits that are correlated with
reproductive isolation. Such changes in recombination rate can occur via synergistic pleiotropy,
which result in magic traits. Magic trait models suggest there is a link between reproductive
isolation and ecological trait. As a result, the ecological trait will produce reproductive isolation as
a by product and as correlated response. When fitness advantage passes across multiple consecutive
generations, it will affect several phenotypic traits in a certain population, such as: physiology and
behaviors, in addition to the alteration of the population s morph sequences by fitness consistency.
Natural and sexual selection can work together as they do in different color morphs. In general, this
study shows the tremendous effect of natural and sexual selection on the evolutionary process
especially when they act concordantly on a certain trait. As a result, the target population will
experience a stronger evolutionary pressure when the two selections (natural and sexual) work in

Conan O Brien gave his commencement speech at Dartmouth in 2011, congratulating the

pathos and ethos, being as this was a commencement speech, there wasn t very much need to
appeal to logos using stats or facts. He used pathos to appeal to the graduating students by telling
about his falling out with NBC and how he came back to fame with his talk show on TBS. He

good advice, he said another hallmark of great commencement speeches is deep, profound
advice like reach for the stars. Well today, I am not going to waste your time with empty
clichГ©s. Instead of using old clichГ©s and timeless words of advice such as reach for the stars
he gave more practical advice, like the advice that your dreams will change some time or another,
and that s okay. He concluded his speech by quoting himself from his last program on NBC, by
saying Work Hard, be kind, and amazing things will happen. I feel that this quote is pretty much

audience s attention through the whole speech. Being a comedian and television talk show host,
Conan has become well known as a comedian, so the use of humor during his speech was

use of humor and movement, the speech seemed less of a deep, heart felt speech, but more of a
conversational, relaxing and enjoyable speech.

The Stroop Effect
Abstract
The aim of this experiment was to test cognitive interference. The Stroop Effect is the finding
that naming words is easier than stating the color of the word. The Stroop Effect was first
conducted in 1935 by John Ridley Stroop which was published in the Studies of interference in
serial verbal reactions . This experiment was replicated by asking 40 participants to complete two
different tasks. Task one involved reading words printed in different colors. The second task was to
read the color of the printed word. Participants were timed while conducting task one and two.
This experiment had a repeated measure and the participants included 20 girls and 20 boys. The

long as reading the color of the word. In this experiment, we chose to compare reading the word
versus reading the color because we felt it was more ecologically valid and acted as a better
comparison to understand the Stroop effect. The first reason as to why reading the color of the
word takes longer is because of selective attention theory which explains that naming the actual
color of the word requires more attention than simply reading the word. Interference is another
important concept to consider which occurs when someone sees the words, they see both the color
and its meaning and this creates conflict in your mind. Based on our schema, we know that
reading the actual word is more important than reading the color. Inference shows that you are not
always in control of what you are able to pay attention to, this occur when you try and focus on the

How Does Guy De Maupassant Use Dramatic Irony In The Necklace
Literary Analysis of The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant
Have you ever been greedy, and wanted something that you would have done anything to get?
Although it is fine to want something, sometimes it can rule your thoughts and actions and you do
things that are not right and may hurt other people. In The Necklace , the story is mainly about a
woman who longs to have been born into a better life. She consistently complains and goes to
extreme lengths to look wealthy, and because of her selfishness, it results in her and her husband
having to give up all they have and spend their life working. In The Necklace, author Guy de
Maupassant uses dramatic irony, irony, and imagery, to communicate the theme of greed and what
that leads to.

Loisel allowed her greed, and her imagination of that greed, to rule her, which caused her to make
bad choices.
In The Necklace , Guy de Maupassant uses different literary elements to help the reader connect
to and better understand the story and characters. Three literary elements that Guy de
Maupassant uses in the story are dramatic irony, where Mme. Loisel manipulates her husband to
get her a dress for the party invitation, irony, where Mme. Loisel spends so much time not caring
about anyone and trying to seem wealthy and it all just turns into her working for ten years
being very poor, and finally, imagery, where Guy de Maupassant uses descriptive words to bring
images to your mind to help you better understand and connect to the story. For a second,
imagine that you saw a pair of shoes that you really liked and you felt like you actually needed
them to live, but you did not have enough money to buy them. Would you just walk away, or get
in debt, or would you try to steal them? Everyone can be greedy and selfish, but you should not
let that guide you in your decisions and actions, instead think about why you want them and if you
really needed them. Mme. Loisel just wanted to look wealthy, but she had a lot of good things in
her life like her faithful husband, her beauty, and food on the table, but she threw it away because

A True Hero In The Epic Of Gilgamesh And Beowulf
In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh was a strong, brave man with powers that are debatably
super natural who fought supernatural enemies. It is the oldest written story known to exist, the
oldest existing version dates back to 2000 B.C.E. yet its hero parallels Beowulf, whose poem is
thought to have been originated from anywhere between the 6th and 11th centuries (The Epic 1;
The Editors 1). Despite this large gap in time periods, both of the epic poems agree mostly on
what a hero is and what he should be, a strong, brave, morally upright warrior. In the epic poem
Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, Beowulf exhibits the traits of a true hero and good
person in the eyes of the Anglo Saxons through his loyalty, bravery, and skill in battle. Beowulf,
a warrior and the protagonist, demonstrates that he is a hero through his loyalty. Beowulf goes to
help the Shieldings, a strong and old family, fight against Grendel, a demon, and is talking with
Hrothgar, head of the Shieldings, about how their families friendship started. Hrothgar tells
Beowulf that Beowulf s father killed a Wulfing, another family, so a war was looming between
their peoples. Beowulf s father then escaped to the Shieldings for safety and Hrothgar shipped a
treasure trove to the Wulfings and on that day, Beowulf s father, Ecgtheow, pledged to Hrothgar
with oaths of allegiance (Beowulf 472 473). Hrothgar paid the price for Ecgtheow s crime and so
he pledged allegiance to him. Beowulf came to help the

An Inside Look at Sadomasochism Essay
An Inside Look at S M
Roy F. Baumeister explores the taboo lifestyles of sadomasochism. The main theme and purpose of
the piece is to find out who are masochists, and what do they put themselves through in the name of
pleasure. Across the country, from sophisticated cities to subdued suburbs, men and women are
acting out fantasies of sexual domination and submission. (Psychology Today 47) I believe that
Baumeister describes a very accurate portrait of who one specific group of masochists is and what
they do for pleasure, however, I feel that he fails to recognize the younger generation of masochists.
I also feel that on the issue symbolic of sex change, Baumeister does not elaborate enough.
Baumeister s findings show that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Baumeister claims that these fantasies can range from wanting to be blindfolded during intercourse
to wanting to be bound and gagged or handcuffed.
Pain, being something that most humans would try to get away from at all costs is something that
is sought out and even craved by the masochist. The pain fantasy seems to be the one that has the
widest range of practices. According to Baumeister, some people enjoy an old fashioned, bare
bottomed, over the knee spanking, (Psychology Today 47) where others would prefer having hot
candle wax dripped on them. Still others enjoy needles and being whipped.
The third masochistic practice that Baumeister addresses is humiliation. Some of the practices
include being forced to walk on all fours, and bark like a dog or being paraded around naked in
front of others who are wearing clothes. There is one memorable image that Baumeister depicts
of humiliation, in which a man for his wife s birthday party had her displayed naked on the hors d
oeuvre table, so that every party goer who reached for a cracker or the vegetable dip had to reach
across her bare self. (Psychology Today 47)
In this essay I believe that Baumeister did a very good job with informing the audience in a
descriptive way what exactly masochism is, but I do also feel that there is at least one point that
he did not address as well as a few that he could have elaborated on better.
One of the issues that he doesn t address is the fact that the

An Example Of Good Software Engineering
Software Engineering Portfolio
Source Code Management
Each member of the team created github repositories to hold source code they had work on. I
created a repository called IScanDir, available at https://github.com/AhmedAhmet/IScanDir, to hold
work done on the application plugins. Towards the end of the project. A new repository called
ScanDirectory was created to hold the latest version of scan directory plugin, available at https:/

practice, because the project manager was able to more effectively practice source control
management, and monitor the contributions of individual members.

Test Driven Development
I made the decision to unit test each part of the scan directory plugin. The scanning directory code
was tested in a windows console application called scanDirectoryTest2. Figure 3 shows the ScanDir

The extracting metadata code was tested in a windows WPF application called audiometadata.

Media Impact Of Print Media
Print media is one of the most powerful and cost effective medium to transfer information and
knowledge. The print media industry in India is over century old. Additionally it is a settled
industry. This industry basically involves publishing daily papers and magazines. India has the
second biggest population and one of the fastest developing economies on the planet. Along with
these the expanding level of income of people groups and the strong rivalry in this industry help
print media in its development. Makers are expanding step by step, new readers from outside
India is likewise a factor of intense competition. Indian readers prefers Hindi magazinescompared
to English magazines. On account of Times group the readership of Hindi Femina is higher when
compared with English magazines. Ernst and Young said in their study report Indian magazine
segment: Navigating new development roads , it has been said that out of the 20 most read
magazines in India, just three magazines are in English, while the remaining are in Hindi and other
regional languages. This review additionally said that more than 300 million literate people don t
read any publications. As per ArcGate, the sensational impacts of internet and globalization in
current situation are playing high effect on media industry. Indeed, even individuals are presently

The Diamond As Big As The Ritz, By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Contrary to what society thinks, a wealthy lifestyle doesn t constitute unlimited happiness. Within
F. Scott Fitzgerald s novella, The Diamond As Big As The Ritz, we witness a fairy tale that
recounts the life of those bathing in wealth and the consequences of prosperity. Fitzgerald describes
the world of an extremely prosperous family and the horrid habits that are entailed. The author
enumerates how an exceptional avidity towards fortune alters the Washington family s life and
leads to their defeat. Overall, this novella includes various themes revolving around greed that
ultimately lead to the family s destruction, that are well developed by literary techniques such as
personification, imagery, and characterization. Throughout The Diamond As Big As The Ritz, the
author analyzes the strength of the Washingtons material possessions. In pursuance of his
argument regarding the dominance of wealth, Fitzgerald utilizes personification. At the beginning,
the protagonist John T. Unger, feels inferior within the house. John T. Unger is an upper class
teenager from Hades who befriends a wealthy kid at his school named Percy Washington (3).
After a few conversations, Percy decides to invite John to visit his estate. The narrator declares,
his chair, feathered, and curved insidiously to his back, seemed to engulf and overpower him as he
drank his first glass of port (19). Not only is the family themselves powerful but their property that
they purchase becomes

Chapter 1 Of James Maccormick’S Book, Nine Algorithms That
Chapter 1 of James MacCormick s book, Nine Algorithms That Changed The Future, provides an
overview of what an algorithm is and introduces the reader of the algorithms that will be discussed
throughout the book. An algorithm is a precise recipe that specifies the exact sequence of steps
required to solve a problem (MacCormick, 3). Algorithm requires a sequence of steps that contain
the instructions on what to do. One of the key elements of an algorithm is to have a set of rules in
order to perform the mathematical calculations. Another feature of algorithms is that it always
works. Computer sciencedescribes how to solve a problem using an algorithm. The main purpose of

Chapter 7 discusses compression algorithms. Compressions are used often and sometimes we may
not even be aware of it. The items we download or upload may be compressed in order to save
bandwidth. Chapter 8 discusses the fundamental algorithms underlying databases (MacCormick, 7).
This chapter emphasizes the techniques used to achieve consistency and to ensure that databases
never contradict each other. Chapter 9 discusses the ability to sign an electronic document digitally
(MacCormick, 7). Chapter 10 discusses algorithms that would be considered great if it existed.
The two main elements that make an algorithm considered to be good are that it solves a problem
and it does it efficiently. In order to measure the efficiency of algorithms, computer scientists use
asymptotic analysis, which allows algorithms to be compared independently of a particular
programming language or hardware. This allows us to determine that some algorithms are more
efficient than others. It is important that users find good algorithms and know when to apply them.
This will allow people to write important programs. For instance, google is able to transmit live
videos across the internet quickly because they use audio and visual compression algorithms ( What
Is an Algorithm, n.p). Another example is google maps and its feature to give us transportation
instruction to get to different places is possible

The social learning theory argues that a person is heavily influenced by their environment, and
they acquire their skills, either positive or negative from their surroundings and from the people
in them (Morenoff, Raudenbush, Sampson, 2001 pp. 517 519). Luis was raised in a poorer
neighborhood, and with his mother abandoning him and his father working all the time he made
his own relationships. Unfortunately, he made them with the wrong crowd as he started dating a
gangster and his best friend was keen on becoming one as well. Luis then stopped caring for
school. We realize that he learned some violent skills from his friends from the disrespectful way
he treated his father, and how quick he was to assault Santiago and steal his father s truck back. In
these cases, the best support to these juveniles would be programs that would allow them to
develop their own interests. Programs like these would enable troubled youths like Luis and the
gangsters from Crips and Bloods to develop their own sense of identity and allow them to become
independent individuals. As a result, troubled youths like these would not succumb to criminal
activities because they would not allow the labels that others place on them or their friends negative
influence to affect them. In theory, with the proper support systems many youths would be better
able to explore other alternatives rather than joining the

Analysis Of Ung Chang s Wild Swans
ung Chang s Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China follows three generations of woman in China
through live and political struggles. China s transformation between 1910s and 1970s, was one of
radical change and caused great suffering. The importance of Chang s book is its in a women s
point of view by showing the suffering and healing that occurred and to educate about the history of
Chinathrough the Warlord, Japanese, and Mao rule. The book is laid out through three
generations: grandma, mom, and the author. Though, it could be looked at through the Warlord
period, Japanese rule, and the Communist rule. Grandma s story started in the warlord period of
China. Mom s story was through the Japanese control and Pre Mao. The author s story was
through Mao s rule of China. The book is organized by the history of the familyand China. It goes
both through the story of China and her family. It shows the progression of China through the lives
of her family and her. Each chapter of Wild Swans contributes to Chang s main point by stacking
one idea on another. One event leads to another. For example, the Chinese were treated terribly
under the role of the Japanese. After Japan lost World War II, Soviet and Mongolian troops entered
China.1 This lead the Chinese to revolt against the Japanese who were still living in China by
school children beating up their Japanese teachers.2 Afterwards, two parties, the Communist and
the Kuomintang, started to battle each other to become the

Special Needs In Special Education
One would think that through the achievements within special education that our culture would be
more willing and understanding of students with special needs. Even with great strides and
progressive steps to improve the experience within the education for students with special needs
society still does not fully understand what challenges students with special needs face daily.
Culture wants to be accepting within its comfort level and does not understand that to help students
with special needs or disabilities one must change to the student s level of understanding and
comfort. Within observations of general classrooms, it is still apparent that teachers want to
accommodate all students, but some are still lacking the understanding and knowledge of how to
modify their teaching style to help students with disabilities to reach their maximum potential.
Culture is still seeing students with disabilities as being limited within their educationnot fully
understanding that each student has different potential and needs specialized instruction (Personal
Communication). Within the course and through field observation the greatest thing that has been
observed is that each special educationstudent is unique, and each has their own academic
achievements and struggles. Within the course one learns that each student has their own
challenges and one also learns that there are many different strategies to teach students with
disabilities. Even though students may be limited within

The Case Study Western National Insurance
Every organization is at risk for financial hardship. It takes a strong, dedicated leader to bring a
company out of loss and turn it around. This is what happened at Western Insurance Agency from
the late 1990s to the early 2000s. Stu Henderson, the newly hired CEO at the time, brought the
organization back to success by supporting and engaging stakeholders. This research will highlight
all stakeholders described in the case study Western National Insurance, the actions taken by
Henderson to support and engage Western National Insurance stakeholders, and an evaluation of
these actions using leadershiptheories. The assessment will consider how successful leaders excel
at understanding themselves and others, at motivating group members to excel, and at facilitating
group members to learn and perform their work more effectively, with the overall effect of
enhancing organizational capacity.
Several internal and external stakeholders were described in the case study Western National
Insurance. They include independent agents, employees, business partners, customers, business
customers, regulators, policyholders, Creameries, board members, homeowners, managers, A.M.
Best, and reinsurance brokers. Leadership must fully understand the importance between engaging
stakeholders and profitability.

In the modern era of extended life car maintenance items like engine coolant and spark plugs we
push this painful service down the road.
However, it s on its way and you can bet on that. On some automobiles it s at the 100,000 mile
mark now. One thing is for sure, if you keep the vehicle long enough it will cost you more to
maintain it. On some vehicles this includes replacing the timing belt at a certain mileage. On other
vehicles it s replacing all the extended life fluids. Another thing to consider is spark plug
replacement on some automobiles became extremely difficult and therefore expensive. The face of
regular maintenance has changed, but you ll still find expensive preventative maintenance services
on all automobiles.
Timing Belt Preventative Maintenance
When people are buying a new or used car they usually don t inquire about the timing belt
situation. Keep in mind, that not all vehicles have a timing belt. Some use a timing chain that
doesn t require any maintenance. I personally will not buy an automobile with a rubber timing
belt. However, if you buy a used car you want to find out if paperwork for a timing belt
replacement exists.
Let s use a popular automobile as an example of this expensive preventative maintenance service.
The timing belt falls under preventative maintenance, because it s necessary to replace it even
though there s nothing wrong with it. Failure to do so

  • 2. The Circulatory System In The Human Heart The Circulatory System The circulatory system The circulatory system is a vast network of organs and vessels that is responsible for the flow of blood, nutrients, hormones, oxygen and other gases to and from cells. Without the circulatory system, the body would not be able to fight disease or maintain a stable internal environment such as proper temperature and pH known as homeostasis. (Live Science, 2017) Main keys roles The most important role of the cardiovascular system is maintaining a normal, healthy, balanced movement. The cardiovascular system is often called the blood vascular, or simply the circulatory system. It consists of the heart, and a closed system of vessels called arteries, veins, and capillaries. The Effect of exercise on the heart Your heart pumps blood at a fast pace to pump extra food and oxygen to the muscles. When, you exercise your body, has to pumps more blood. This is because when you exercise, the cells that are in your muscles need more energy to move. Your muscles get this energy from respiration. This chemical reaction uses up oxygen to release energy from glucose. This then travels in the blood, so if your muscles need more oxygen and glucose, they get it from the blood. So now we know that when you exercise, your body pumps more blood, which makes your pulse rate faster. The Human Heart Structure In humans, the heart is located among the lungs. The human heart is situated to the left of the middle of your chest. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of Climate Change On Ecosystems Introduction One of the most important environmental influences on ecosystems is climate. Greenhouse gas pollution is acquiring heat in the atmosphere and inordinately raising global temperatures. Colorado, for example, has warming predictions of 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit by 2025 and up to 4 degrees by 2050. The impact of climatechange can and will affect ecosystems in numerous forms. Such an impact is that warming of the climate will compel a variety of species to shift to higher elevations in order to find a temperaturethat more closely relates to the species survival. This migration can also be related to warming causing tree lines to rise several hundred feet per degree Fahrenheitthat temperature rises thus removing habitat for many species. Warming will also cause a flux in precipitation and snowpack which can lead to wetland areas and stream temperatures to rise and alter habitats of cold water fish. Climate change also directly affects sea levels as melting of polar caps are causing them to rise. This can cause salt water to intrude upon freshwater ecosystems and these species may not be able to adapt and they lose their habitats and must advance elsewhere or perish. This shock can also cause different predatory and prey species to leave which drastically alters the food chain and causing critters to starve or migrate to different areas where they may not be able to adapt and causing them to ... • 4. Non-Linear Narrative Structures Have Deeply Influenced How... Narrative in visual culture May 14th 2012 Vis Com 1st Year Non linear narrative structures have deeply influenced how subjects are presented in visual culture. Joanne Duff DT545 Vis Com 1st Year Non linear narrative structures have deeply influenced how subjects are presented in visual culture. The first movie I looked at was IrrГ©versible, a French movie written, directed and produced by Gasper NoГ©. NoГ© employs a non linear narrative to force the audience to think about the actions taken by those seeking vengeance before the reasons behind these actions are known. The movie is told in reverse order, beginning with the main character murdering the person he believed brutally attacked his girlfriend. The intention of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... NoГ© places these scenes in the first half of the movie, to give us a different perspective on the characters and their lives. The film ends with scenes depicting Marcus and Alex happy together, which the viewer must watch while knowing exactly how things will end for them. We also learn that the man Marcus and Pierre murdered in the gay club wasn t the man they were looking for, we realise that Le Tenia was standing beside this man, and stood transfixed as he watch them viciously beat the man they believed to be him. Alex is attacked by Le Tenia The attack in the club and the rape scene are so cruel and graphic that they are rendered almost unwatchable, which is how NoГ© intended them to be. The violence is unglamorised and gritty; the rape scene is completely non sexual and uncomfortably long. The non linear narrative of IrrГ©versible is what makes the movie interesting, if the movie story was told in a linear way it wouldn t create the same interest in the lives of the characters. We wouldn t feel the same about happy characters whose lives are ruined as we would about something terrible happening to the characters and then to watch them living happily oblivious to the events that will ruin their lives. He presents us the events in an order which makes us think about the nature of these events in a different way. • 5. The Importance Of Modernism In Literature Modernism, a constantly debated term, is a philosophical movement that emerged during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, following World War I. Painters, writers, and musicians did not however perceive it just as a period in time, rather as a commitment to experimentation in techniques, freedom in ideas, originality in perceptions, and self examination in emotions (Baughman, Bondi, Layman...etc,1) Writers, for example, like James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and Ernest Hemingwaybroke away from the traditional and conventional techniques to create their own literary voice. Joyce s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Woolf s Jacob s Room, and Hemingway s In Our Time each exemplify distinctive styles in ideology, art, culture, and politics which eventually became what the modernist movement, also known as the avant garde, appertained to. While their childhood s affected their writing, Hemingway s minimalistic technique of composition in In Our Time, and Joyce and Woolf s prolific amount of attention to detail in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Jacob s Room affected the growth of the modernist movement. Virginia Woolf and James Joyce s similar upbringing shaped them into the people they are today. English modernist writer and critic, Adeline Virginia Stephen, commonly acknowledged as Virginia Woolf, was born on January 25, 1882 in London, England and died on March 28, 1941. Woolf was born into a typical Victorian family, where the father of the family was the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Wild Horse Race On July 4th, 1935, El Paso, Texas was holding their annual Wild Horse race. Cowboys from all over the country gather around to watch all of Texas s best cowboys. Children gathered around with excitement in their eyes. This year has been rumoured to be the best one yet. The town had supplied some of the best horses that have ever been and the cowboys were ready in every way to wrangle them. Everyone was watching for one cowboy in particular, a cowboy rumored to be the best in the whole country. His name was Carl Owen, a young man from a small town in Oklahoma. The horse race had a high level of danger due to the kicking of the horses and the chaos. Carl did not care. He was a true cowboy. Whenever the time came for the Wild Horse Race to start, everyone surrounded the arena and Carl stepped up to the fence with the other cowboys. The horses were bucking in their pens when the ... Also, while doing this, he risked his reputation of not winning first place because some of the other men were still wrangling horses in and Carl was running out of time. Carl hauled the man onto his back like a gorilla mother carrying its child. Carl was not one to give up, so he continued to wrangle the horses successfully even with the extra load on his back. While his back was turned, a horse lifted its legs to kick. All of the air is sucked out of the room as the audience watched in shock. One of the horse s hooves caught him in the head and he fell. Carl fell to the ground where he lay unconscious. All of the other horses had been wrangled by the cowboys, and three other cowboys pulled away the horse that had kicked ... In fear of passing on the disease to her child, she underwent preimplantation genetic diagnosis, also known as PGD. The woman decided to implant embryos without the Alzheimer s geneinto her womb and months later, she gave birth to a healthy baby, free of the Alzheimer s gene. Currently, preimplantation genetic diagnosisis mostly only used in similar cases, like eliminating the possibility to obtain life affecting diseases. Many people would agree that PGD is for the great good of the planet but however, there are possible negative results that could come out of PGD and designer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, being able to detect genetic disorders, such as Down Syndrome, could result in the parents aborting the fetus. Margaret Somerville said in Choosing The Perfect Child, In short, the new genetics is functioning as eugenics, but that fact is not identified. In short, an outcome that would never be acceptable as public policy is being implemented through the accumulation of individual choices (actionlife.org). To abort a child because of their genes are incorrect and need extra assistance with daily chores is selfish and inhuman. Not to mention, if a family had PGD on their child and received a false positive result, the unborn child could very well be killed needlessly. Then secondly, if all PGD got rid of all genetically transferred diseases, it could affect the world s population. • 9. Fly In The Fly Bugs and insects are often used as literary devices in very different ways, yet they mostly have some kind of connection to the protagonists lives, their emotions and their character traits. The insect s outward appearance stands in sharp contrast to that of a human being in fiction, yet its character traits or emotions are personified in order to be similar to those of the humanprotagonist. This contrast is what makes stories like these so effective. This is, to a certain extent, also the case in The Fly by Katherine Mansfield even though here the human protagonist, the boss, is the one actively projecting his inner self onto the insect. In fact, it is possible to say that the fly is used as a reflector: it reflects the boss s idealised... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to mention that the only way the boss is able to process his son s death is through crying but one day he fails to cry, starting the inevitable road to his spiritual death (cf. Boyle 183). More indications of the relation between the failure of the boss and that of the fly are found on page 164: Nothing happened or was likely to happen (Mansfield 164). This can be seen as a reference to the tears the boss ceases to cry and is most likely not going to be able to cry ever again. The aspect of failure also becomes obvious when looking at the way the fly is described throughout the last two pages: It was ready for life again (Mansfield 163). This shows not only the fly s victory of surviving the fall into the inkpot but also the new hope the boss finds in observing the fly and testing its limits. This hope, however, dies when the fly dies.
As mentioned before, the boss experiences his spiritual death (Boyle 183) at the end of the story which is emphasised and illustrated by the death of the fly. The story, therefore, doesn t seem to be mainly about the death of the fly really but about how the fly s death stands for the boss s spiritual death. It is mainly caused by his inability to properly grieve for his son anymore, which leads him to loose all kinds of human feelings. Boyle examines the aspect of the spiritual death in greater detail and explains the connection between the blots of ink and the boss s grief very well, saying the struggles of the fly with the blots of ink, in fact, parallel the struggles of the boss with his grief for his son (184). According to Boyle, the love for the boss s son could be substituted with the grief he feels after his son s death. (185) It is therefore logical to assume that the moment he stopped grieving, he stopped loving to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities Between Rainbows End And Rabbit Proof Fence Discovery Speech Year 12 2017 (Rainbows End Rabbit Proof Fence) Whether intensely meaningful or confronting, discovery has the power to be transformative How accurately does this statement reflect the view of discovery explored in Rainbows End and in the Rabbit Proof Fence? Discovery is the process by which our lives are enriched, a discovery is a transformative process that influences the values and perceptions of an individual, group or even the world, it is through discovery that we grow and begin to view our lives in a new way. Both Rainbows end written by Jane Harrison and Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce both support this statement through many techniques such as Flashbacks, Camera Angles, Music, Foreshadowing and Literary Techniques. This is displayed mainly though the characters Nan Dear from Rainbows End and Molly Craig from the Rabbit Proof Fence, both of these characters make the most powerful transformative discoveries as they already had set opinions from the beginning. Jane Harrison from Rainbows End conveys Nan Dear as an unmovable character. Nan Dears opinions and attitudes were very fixed from the beginning of the play, this makes Nan Dears transformational discovery a very large impact in the play. • 14. Analysis Of The Crucible And Half Hanged Mary The Crucible and Half Hanged Mary were written and based off of the Salem Witch trials. The Salem witch trials occurred in colonial Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693. More than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft and 20 were executed. Eventually, the colony admitted the trials were a mistake and compensated the families of those convicted. This is similar to today in that today, people are being accused of things they haven t done just because they look a certain way or are similar to the people who actually did something bad. Being falsely accused of something can send people into hysterics and send them into a downward spiral. While both Atwood and Miller both seek to reveal the injustices incurred by the victims of the Salem witch trials, Miller focuses on the effects of hysteria and religious zealotry on society, while Atwood aims to commemorate the excruciating experience of a single victim. In Half hanged Mary, the use of first person allows the reader to read the thoughts of the person speaking or thinking and allows the connection between reader and character to grow. While in the crucible, having the reader be told the story from the narrator s perspective allows the reader a window to see into each and every character s thoughts. • 26. What Is Graph Theoretical Analysis 1.3.4. Introduction to graph theoretical analysis. The case of brain perfusion SPECT. In the field of quantitative neuroimaging, graph theoretical analysis is one of the methods to study brain connectivity [93 95, 100, 101]. A key concept of this method is the notion of topology. This concept can be illustrated with a simple idea which is used when we travel in the subway of any large city. In figure 3 two maps of the London subway appear, the first map shows a precise spatial description of the railways (or lines) through which trains travel (i.e., the subway topography), whereas the second one is only concerned with the relative locations of subway stations and connecting lines (i.e., the subway topology). These two maps do not coincide with regards to the relative position of the stations, neither in the distances nor in the location of the lines. However, the topological map simplifies the problem for the traveler. For example, two stations may be physically (topographically) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By simply inspecting the topological maps, it is not easy to know if one subway is better organized than the other (e.g., subway efficiency). One way to simplify this problem is to use metrics that quantify or analyze the subway network using graph theory [94, 101]. Hence the name of graph theoretical analysis. A first aspect to measure could be how easy it is to travel between any two stations (e.g. the number of stations on average, between the start and end of the trip). This aspect is relevant, especially if the traveler wants to visit different parts of the city on the same day. This example illustrates the concept of global efficiency of a graph [94, 101]. The metric of global efficiency is a way to quantify the global connectivity (integration) of the network. In this example, it is assumed that the number of stations (nodes) and lines (connectors) are the same in the two subways that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eccentric muscle contraction can be defined as muscle loading that involves an external force application with tension, increased during physical lengthening of the musculotendinous unit (Albert, 1995, p.1). It is the mechanisms by which it works that suggest it could potentially have many positive benefits for athletes. Fish oil has been shown to have an anti inflammatory effect, because fatty acids EPA and DHA can partially inhibit some parts of the inflammatory process including leucocyte chemotaxis; adhesion molecule expression and leucocyte endothelial adhesive interactions; production of eicosanoids such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes from the n 6 fatty acid arachidonic acid; production of inflammatory cytokines and T cell reactivity (Calder, 2013). Tartibian, Maleki and Abbasi (2011) found that markers of inflammation, PGE2, IL 6, TNF a, LDH, CK, and Mb, were reduced 24 and 48 hours after an eccentric exercise program, consisting of bench stepping, in those untrained males who used a fish oil supplement (containing 324mg EPA and 216mg DHA) for 30 days prior to the program. Reductions in inflammatory markers associated with muscle damage, particularly delayed onset of muscle soreness make these findings particularly significant and highlight the potential importance of the use of fish oil as a supplement, as reducing inflammation and therefore speeding up recovery allows for a greater capacity to train and develop. Oostenbrug et al. As a young god, Zeus is thereby a young ruler. His inexperience in ruling is obvious. Zeus had established his reign by violently overthrowing his father in a bloody war and spread his rule through subjugation. By imprisoning Cronusand the Titans in Tartarus and appointing his relatives and children in positions under him, Zeusforcefully raised himself into the position of a supreme ruler. Zeus knows no methods apart from vigorous and powerful ones in order to maintain his authority. In the beginning of the play in which Prometheusis being chained to a rock, Power and Force act as agents of Zeus and command Hephaestus. Zeus is defined by strength and harshness. They are the characteristics that have exalted him to his high position as a supreme ruler and they are now used to pave his way toward absolute dominance. He is harsh, as all those new to power are harsh (Aeschylus 2). Zeus s cruel methods are noticed and even criticized by those who serve him. However, none oppose him because of the fear Zeus instilled into them. And all the same I am required to bear it: it s hard to set aside my father s words (Aeschylus 2). Businesses vary, and as a result, the skills needed to own and run them vary also. With that, there are some general traits that successful business leader should have. 1. Optimism: You must be an optimist because, at some point, you have to see beyond the hard times to see the better times. Optimism and confidence tend to go together. You, as the businessowner, must be able to make it through the tough times because you have hope on getting better. 2. Common Sense: As a successful business leader, you need to have the ability to anticipate problems and take steps to prevent them. Successful businesses look to outsiders like there are rarely any problems. What they don t see is a business owner that is keeping his/her finger on the pulse of the business and the industry. When they anticipate changes coming, they take steps to prepare their business in case it comes about. That preparation and willingness to change can make the difference between success and failure. Done well and it s just about invisible to anyone except the business owner. 6. Be Organized: Being organized is a major problem to most of the business leaders. In case you can not handle various things at the same time, then you shouldn t go into business for yourself. There is NEVER just one thing going on when you own business. There are customer problems; there are vendor /supplier problems, and there are competition problems. As a business owner, you have to be able to quickly know and understand which problems need attention first. You have to be able to prioritize your problems and know that those same priorities may change on a moments notice. 7. The man with no name uses his poncho, which broadens him making him look larger and more intimidating and chews tobacco to make himself look even harder. William Munney does not have a certain object that makes him look tough perhaps from his hat, which disguises a majority of his face and his long coat this signals his change back to a ruthless killer. The director uses low angle camera shots to give the impression that he looks down on people and uses his superiority to daunt people, this occurs in the final scene when he stands over Little Bill just before he shots him. A matrix organization is an organization where employees report their job activities to more than one superior or manager simultaneously. In other words, employees have a dual reporting obligation to both a departmental manager and a product manager. In describing a matrix organization, Bauer and Erdogan (2009) explains that employees reporting to department managers are also pooled together to form project or product teams (p. 326) and in that case, individual employee report to the project manager and the departmental manager. For instance, the Dutch electronics giant, Phillips uses matrix management system with its managers reporting to both a geographical manager and a product division manager simultaneously.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, the matrix structure violates the unity of command structure which stipulates that individual employee in the traditional organization reports to one superior or manager at a time; in a matrix organization, employees report to two managers which is a vital challenge to employees and managers involved. This system hinders the coordination of task between employees and their various managers. Secondly, as a result of reporting to two managers, conflict cannot be avoided. In other words, each of the presiding managers would want to determine or have a greater say in assigning a task to an employee while the other manager also sees it as a legitimate obligation to have an employee fulfill his tasks and report to him.. Bauer and Erdogan ( 2009) explains that the presence of two managers regulating the behavior of an employee would greatly increase the level of conflict among the two manager. Similarly, matrix structure brings about role conflict. For instance, an employee may have an ongoing role to perform in a project and the departmental manager could find it necessary to assign a separate or different role for the employee, therefore, create a conflict on the role of the employee in the project. While it may seem beneficial for managers to be interdependent on each other, it could also be a challenge to managers because they cannot impose their intentions on a project without ... While there is a varied amount of sectors and/or industries that have major issues and concerns, the automotive industry in South Africa is a present issue that needs to be considered, (Naude Weiss, 2011). The OEMs in South Africa are BMW (3 series), Ford (Ranger pickup from 2011), GM (Corsa pickup, Isuzu pickup), Mercedez Benz (C Class), Nissan/Renault (various sedans and pickups), Toyota (Corolla 4 door and Hilux pickup), Volkswagen (new and old Polo), (Pitot, 2010). Government persuade and pressurize automotive assemblers to increase local content but the reality of the situation is that there local manufacturers aren t as competitive as they would like to be or they aren t as competitive as those suppliers and automotive assemblers internationally. The reason being is supply chain issues cause inefficiencies that impact a local automotive assembler to gain competitiveness, (Naude Weiss, 2011). The most common drivers of demand distortion are unforeseen sales promotion which have a ripple effect on the supply chain, lack of customer confidence and cancellations of orders, (Lysons, 2003). To remain competitive, the automotive industry needs to decrease costs and enhance customer service levels. Some complexities they may face is rising fuel prices and high manpower costs which negatively influences the cost of living in today s society. Color Morphism Lab Report Sexual selection and genetic color polymorphisms in animals Introduction: Genetic color polymorphism is an ideal model system, which can be used to study evolutionary stages for numerous reasons. First, high heritability can be shown from genetic basis that color morphs provide. Second, separate color morphs can provide visual markers and can be seen in isolated individuals when observing selection in the wild. With use of morph frequencies, genotype frequencies can be detected easily and derive allelic frequency modifications over space and time. There have been numerous Drosophila studies that have used visual eye marker phenotypes to study evolutionary changes, which have been shown that color morphs can be correlated to strong natural and... Genomic architectures tend to favor speciation by either eliminating or reducing recombination between traits that are correlated with reproductive isolation. Such changes in recombination rate can occur via synergistic pleiotropy, which result in magic traits. Magic trait models suggest there is a link between reproductive isolation and ecological trait. As a result, the ecological trait will produce reproductive isolation as a by product and as correlated response. When fitness advantage passes across multiple consecutive generations, it will affect several phenotypic traits in a certain population, such as: physiology and behaviors, in addition to the alteration of the population s morph sequences by fitness consistency. Natural and sexual selection can work together as they do in different color morphs. In general, this study shows the tremendous effect of natural and sexual selection on the evolutionary process especially when they act concordantly on a certain trait. The Stroop Effect was first conducted in 1935 by John Ridley Stroop which was published in the Studies of interference in serial verbal reactions . This experiment was replicated by asking 40 participants to complete two different tasks. Task one involved reading words printed in different colors. The second task was to read the color of the printed word. Participants were timed while conducting task one and two. This experiment had a repeated measure and the participants included 20 girls and 20 boys. The independent variable was reading the test paper during both tasks. In this experiment, we chose to compare reading the word versus reading the color because we felt it was more ecologically valid and acted as a better comparison to understand the Stroop effect. The first reason as to why reading the color of the word takes longer is because of selective attention theory which explains that naming the actual color of the word requires more attention than simply reading the word. Interference is another important concept to consider which occurs when someone sees the words, they see both the color and its meaning and this creates conflict in your mind. It is the oldest written story known to exist, the oldest existing version dates back to 2000 B.C.E. yet its hero parallels Beowulf, whose poem is thought to have been originated from anywhere between the 6th and 11th centuries (The Epic 1; The Editors 1). Despite this large gap in time periods, both of the epic poems agree mostly on what a hero is and what he should be, a strong, brave, morally upright warrior. In the epic poem Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, Beowulf exhibits the traits of a true hero and good person in the eyes of the Anglo Saxons through his loyalty, bravery, and skill in battle. Beowulf, a warrior and the protagonist, demonstrates that he is a hero through his loyalty. Beowulf goes to help the Shieldings, a strong and old family, fight against Grendel, a demon, and is talking with Hrothgar, head of the Shieldings, about how their families friendship started. Hrothgar tells Beowulf that Beowulf s father killed a Wulfing, another family, so a war was looming between their peoples. Beowulf s father then escaped to the Shieldings for safety and Hrothgar shipped a treasure trove to the Wulfings and on that day, Beowulf s father, Ecgtheow, pledged to Hrothgar with oaths of allegiance (Beowulf 472 473). The pain fantasy seems to be the one that has the widest range of practices. According to Baumeister, some people enjoy an old fashioned, bare bottomed, over the knee spanking, (Psychology Today 47) where others would prefer having hot candle wax dripped on them. Still others enjoy needles and being whipped. The third masochistic practice that Baumeister addresses is humiliation. Some of the practices include being forced to walk on all fours, and bark like a dog or being paraded around naked in front of others who are wearing clothes.
