2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

Objectives Guide Questions
At the end of the lesson the
learners can;
1. Enumerates the
different
characteristics of a
trend
2. Explain the different
characteristics of a
trend.
1. What are the
different
characteristics of
a trend?
2. What is part of a
whole?
3. What are
emerging
patterns?
4. Definitions of terms
Micro – extremely small
Macro - large-scale; overall
Mega - very large; huge.
Giga – (a unit of measurement) means
1,000,000,000; a Gigabyte is a billion
bytes
5. - A trend persists and continues
because people have seen it as part
of a society's culture. A trend shows
a transitory increase or decrease of a
particular idea, event or
phenomenon. It is wider than cool
hunting and refers more generally
to the study of trends and the way
they develop and affect society.
- A significant characteristic of a trend is its
capacity to make sudden surprises and
reversals that we can see around us. It is by
exploring the emergence where we can
anticipate the challenges and future plans. It
includes the countries whose economies are
growing as the number of jobs increases. This
said trend is urgent.
- Another characteristic of a trend is that it
interlocks and overlaps with other trends. Asian
countries formed groups that address security,
economics and political stability in order to
compete with other global forces.
6. - Little things that happen all around us
all the time, the tiny shifts that occur in
everything from clothes we wear and
the snacks we eat to the way, play,
love.
- These trends happen right now and are
outright observable.
- Are synonymous
with fads.
- They offer a
glimpse about
the future
through the clues
they possess.
7. - Aggregated
microtrends or
more sweeping
changes that are
affecting society
- They provide
major changes that
are perceptible in
the societal level
for longer period.
- These are more stable than micro trends.
8.
9. -- Are mactrorends
that have grown up
and moved out. They
are big and bold, and
affect the lives of
great swathes of the
human race.
- They can last for
decades and are
“so pervasive as to
be generally
known.
- Are obvious and
evident.
10.
11. - Trends that are so
general that they affect
most areas of human
life or, at least, more
than one aspect of life or
more that one industry.
- Usually identifies to define an era.
12. {
Trends are formed
from the combination
of things, thus a trend
has constituent parts
or portion that are
interrelated.
Parts of a Whole
13. {
A pattern is a design, shape, form or configuration
that emerges from repetitious appearance of lines,
curves and behaviour. In the study of trends,
repetitive behaviour that gives rise to an emerging
pattern is the main interest.
14. Create your own example of
a trend or a fad.
Discuss how do you think your
creation will be a trend of either a fad.
