THE CONCEPT OF KARMA ( INTRO TO PHILO)
Karma is a core concept in Hinduism and other Indian religions that suggests good or bad deeds can influence future outcomes through reincarnation. According to karma, good actions lead to beneficial effects while bad actions lead to harmful effects, either in this life or a future one. The effects are not necessarily immediate, and karma is more concerned with moral intentions rather than just actions and consequences. Karma is connected to the concept of reincarnation, in which the soul is reborn in a new body based on the depletion of past karmas.
UNEMPLOYMENT (APPLIED ECONOMICS)
Unemployment occurs when people are without jobs and have looked for work in the past four weeks. There are several types of unemployment: frictional unemployment involves shifting between jobs; structural unemployment is due to economic changes creating a mismatch of skills; classical unemployment happens when wages are bargained higher than the market will bear; cyclical unemployment increases during recessions as demand falls; and seasonal unemployment affects industries like tourism and agriculture that fluctuate with the seasons. Unemployment can be caused by factors like technological changes, economic recessions, inflation, disabilities, personal willingness and values, and workplace discrimination. It has negative economic effects on both individuals and society as a whole.
TYPE OF TAXES (APPLIED ECONOMICS)
Here are the key differences between direct and indirect taxes:
Direct Tax:
- Paid by the person on whom the tax is legally imposed
- The person paying the tax is the same person bearing the burden of the tax
- Examples include income tax, property tax
Indirect Tax:
- Imposed on one person but partly or wholly paid by another
- The person paying the tax is different from the person bearing the economic burden/incidence of the tax
- Examples include sales tax, VAT, excise duty
So in summary:
Direct tax is paid by and borne by the same person. Indirect tax is paid by one person but the economic burden is borne by another. Direct taxes
HUMAN MIGRATION (APPLIED ECONOMICS)

- Lack of employment opportunities in the Philippines - Many Filipinos seek work abroad due to limited jobs and low wages at home. Countries like the US, Canada, and Middle Eastern nations offer higher pay for Filipino nurses, engineers, etc.
- Poverty and low standard of living - As an developing country, poverty remains a challenge in the Philippines. Overseas work is seen as a way to earn more money and support families back home.
- Desire to provide better future for children - Filipino migrant workers want to give their children access to better education, healthcare and standard of living not readily available in the
PRICE & COMMODITIES (APPLIED ECONOMIC)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. - 3. WHAT IS A TREND? A pattern of gradual change in a condition, output, or process, or an average or general tendency of a series of data points to move in a certain direction over time, represented by a line or curve on a graph. - a general direction in which something is developing or changing.
- 5. Megatrends entail a major restructuring ; they are a larger pattern of broad trends that reshape and transform our lives.
- 7. Microtrends advocate localization as opposed to globalization, recognizing that people and communities have never been sophisticated and more knowledgeable about the choices they make in their everyday lives.
- 10. • Facebook – is the most common social network website where you can share information about yourself and communicate with other people.
- 11. Twitter – it lets you see what is happening around the world, from breaking news and entertainment, sports and politics to big events and every day interests.
- 12. Instagram is a mobile, desktop, and Internet- based photo-sharing application and service that allows users to share pictures and videos either publicly or privately.
- 13. TRENDSPOTTING
- 14. Trendspotting is attempting to see the future in the present (Rehn and Lindkvist, 2013). Being able to predict a trend is a valued skill for the global citizen. Trendspotting is sometimes called cool-hunting and trend analysis.
- 15. • Trend analysis is the widespread practice of collecting information and attempting to spot a pattern, or trend, in the information.
- 16. Trend spotting is the identification of new trends or attempting to see the future. Trend spotter is a person who notices and reports on new fashions, ideas, or activities that are becoming popular.
- 18. A fad is something that quickly gains in popularity and may fade just as quickly, sometimes just not quick enough. Clothing, foods, exercises, hairstyles, language are all areas that are subject to fads.
- 19. Fashion, language and behaviors all have an effect on the workplace regardless of how fleeting they may be. Fads are often heavily driven by social media today. In fact social media at one time was considered a fad, which has now evolved into a macro trend if not a megatrend.
