This document outlines several key concepts and principles related to sustainable development (SD), including the five capitals model of SD, the Earth Charter, Agenda 21, and the ten-point principles for good practice. It also discusses how SD is addressed in Philippine legislation through various laws addressing the environment, natural resources, and climate change. Finally, it presents the basic principles and concepts of education for sustainable development, which emphasizes that education plays a major role in creating a just, democratic and sustainable society.
Implementing SDG11 by connecting sustainability policies and urban planning p...ITU
In this guidance document, we study the advantages of using ICT technologies to support the implementation
of the Sustainable Development Goals, namely SDG 11, by facilitating the missing linkages that exist between
sustainability policies and urban-planning practices through digitally-enabled urban actions. These urban
actions will be shaped as recommendations that will put forward physical and non-physical advice to help
the user improve the implementation of both SDG 11 and the New Urban Agenda.

Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.
"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

6. Sustainable Development
(SD)
Sustainable Development clearly
forms the statements of our Our
Common Future or the Brundtland
Report. It has two important
aspects: meets the needs of the
present and securing the needs of
the future. It does not imply limits
and development, but rather
responsible and conscientious
development.
7. Essentially, Sustainable Development means finding ways
to improve people’s quality of life without damaging the
environment, and without storing up problems for the
future, or transferring them to other parts of society or
other countries. It is an innovation agenda, inviting us
rethink how we organise our lives and work so that we don’t
destroy our most precious resources.
8. The Five Capitals Model for Sustainable
Development
The Five Capitals Model was
developed by the organisation of
Forum for Common Future. It
provides a basis for understanding
sustainability in terms of the
economic concept of wealth
creation or ‘capital’.
9. The Earth Charter
“We urgently need a shared vision of basic values to provide
an ethical foundation for the emerging world community.
Therefore, together in hope we affirm the following
interdependent principles for a sustainable way of life as a
common standard by which the conduct of all individuals,
organizations, businesses, governments, and trans-national
institutions is to be guided and assessed.”
10. The Agenda 21
1 - Social and Economic
Dimensions
2 - Conservation &
Management of Resources
3 - Strengthening the Role
of Major Groups
4 - Means of Implementation
11. Ten-Point Principle for
Good Practice
Principle 1: Principles of Sustainable Development
Principle 2: Integrity
Principle 3: Balance
Principle 4: Values and attitudes
Principle 5: Knowledge and skills
12. Principle 6: User-centred approach
Principle 7: Need
Principle 8: Development
Principle 9: Production
Principle 10: Promotion and distribution
13. Principles of
Environmental Education
Environmental Education must involve everyone.
Environmental Education must be lifelong.
Environmental Education must be holistic and about
connections
Environmental Education must be practical
Environmental Education must be in harmony with
social and economic goals and accorded equal priority.
14. Nine Principles for a
Sustainable Society
Respect and care for the community of life.
Improve the quality of life.
Conserve the Earth’s vitality and diversity.
Minimise the depletion of non-renewable resources.
Keep within the Earth’s carrying capacity.
Change personal attitudes and practices.
Enable communities to care for their own environments.
Provide a national framework for integrating development and conservation.
Create a global alliance.
15. Basic Principles and Concepts of Education
for
Sustainable Development (EfSD)
education is a key to sustainability
education is really seen to play a major role in creating
a just and democratic society
reorienting our present education system
EfSD encompasses a vision that integrates environment
economy and society
, EfSD focuses largely on the major social, economic
and environmental issues that threaten the
sustainability of the planet.

Editor's Notes
In line with basic principles of Sustainable Development, the Council for Environmental Education (CEE, 1999) presented a Ten-Point Principle for Good Practice, which can serve as guide in doing environment audit of programs and or projects.
The IUCN, UNEP and WWF presented Nine Principles for A Sustainable Society in their program called Caring for the Earth: A Strategy for Sustainable Living (IUCN, UNEP and WWF, 1991):
From the time Sustainable Development was first endorsed at the UN General Assembly in 1987, the parallel concept of education to support Sustainable Development has also been explored. From 1987 to 1992, the concept of Sustainable Development matured as committees discussed, negotiated, and wrote the 40 chapters of Agenda 21. Initial thoughts concerning EfSD were captured in Chapter 36 of Agenda 21, “Promoting Education, Public Awareness, and Training.”
