African Development Dialogue, a Quaterly Magazine from the UN Millennium Camp...endpoverty2015
We are introducing a magazine whose broad objective will be to support citizen’s efforts towards holding their governments to account for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The Sustainable Development Goals—officially known as "Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development"—are an intergovernmental set of 17 aspirational goals and 169 targets. Building post-2015 on the accomplishments of the Millennium Development Goals, but cognizant also of their shortcomings, they combine economic, environmental, and social goals that now apply to all countries. They were developed in a broad two-year consultation process during which civil society, citizens, academics, scientists, and the private sector of all countries had the opportunity to contribute.
TRADING INTO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: TRADE, MARKET ACCESS AND THE SUSTAINABL...Ira Kristina Lumban Tobing
This report examines various interactions between trade policy, with a specific focus on market access conditions, and factors that constitute the basis for achieving sustainable development. Market access conditions vis-à- vis imports are determined by a combination of border measures and “behind the border” measures, both of which add costs to the price of an imported product. By generating significant impact upon consumer welfare and the competitiveness of domestic industries, market access conditions in international trade thus are a key determinant of the effectiveness of trade as a means of implementation.

In 2014 UNDP launched the Innovation Facility to support innovation in addressing development challenges. The Innovation Facility was made possible with the generous contribution of the Government of Denmark and co-investments from UNDP’s core resources.
This review lays out why innovation is becoming increasingly important in international development and for UNDP. It describes our approach to innovation as well as brief descriptions of the initiatives funded by the Innovation Facility in 2014, though many more UNDP projects not highlighted in this report embraced and tested novel methods. UNDP has invested over time in the uptake of new ways of doing business and over the past three years has invested in strategically exploring innovation under the motto “innovation happens in practice.” Through the Innovation Facility we strive to accelerate this approach by putting innovation in development solutions on a new trajectory.

Task Force On Sustainable Lifestyles PresentationTom Gater
Lifestyles are part of our identity; people express their social position, political preferences and psychological aspirations to others through them. Lifestyles define and differentiate us. They are the way we live our lives.
Lifestyles are shaped by a whole host of factors. Their roots are in culture, politics, economics and social norms. For sustainable lifestyles to enter our cultures and societies, to become part of our everyday life, they must be developed at all levels. They need to be enabled and encouraged by the social and technical systems and institutions that surround us. People will only swap their car for public transport if there’s an efficient and cost-effective public transport system.

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Philippine's celebration on the international year of cooperatives 2012
1. PHILIPPINE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF COOPERATIVES 2012 PHILIPPINE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF COOPERATIVES 2012 Presented by Jo B. Bitonio Regular RCDC Meeting, January 10,2012 Sea & Sky Restaurant, San Fernando City,, La Union PHILIPPINE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF COOPERATIVES 2012

3. In relation to this, the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) created a National and Steering Committee to celebrate the Philippine IYC 2012, composed of cooperative federations /unions, government institutions, academes, cooperative party lists and other relevant institutions tasked to plan, develop and implement programs and activities at the national
6. The country's number one resource is its people. Enhancing therefore their capabilities, developing their potentials and harnessing their skills must take precedence over other priorities knowing that countries that have not developed their human capital are now penalized by slow growth. Today, the cooperative movement in the country with some 7 million members, are one with the new President in advancing a collectivist counter culture as its response to countervail against the dominant paradigm of poverty, powerlessness, violence and corruption.
7. Topics to be discussed in relation to the nurture and protection of our environment are : 1) Investors Forum on Community Based Forest Management; 2) Environment Protection, Waste Management, and Climate Change; 3) Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture; and 4) Power Forum; 5) Seminar on Sustainable Agriculture and Ecology Environmental Awareness Activities including Rehabilitation of Mangroves, Reforestation of Denuded Areas, and Upland Tree Growing
8. The spirit of cooperativism shines through amidst the darkness of poverty and social inequities. Where people are poor because they are powerless to craft their destiny, where hunger looms because of social injustice as the mode of production and basic utilities are controlled by a few, where people are in dire economic difficulties because of lack of opportunities, skills and capabilities, it is during this time when cooperatives thrive best.
9.

11. Sustainable kind of development - it is the kind of growth that closes inequities that promotes fairness, justice, indiscrimination, equality, proportion, balance without impeding (obstruct, hinder, hamper, delay, block, slow down ) the rights of the future generations to live sustainably.
12. 4P's of SD = People, Planet, Prosperity & Peace - is the interdependent and mutually reinforcing pillars of Sustainable Development. It is beyond economic values. It is interconnection: What happens to one part, affects the others. Are the Co-op’s development initiatives adhere to the 4P’s bottom lines?
13. If the Rotarians have their 4-way test, we, the Co-ops should also have our 4-P’s test on our development initiatives
14. PLANET? Does it advance Ecological conservation, Respect for biodiversity, Use of appropriate technology, Promotion of community based resource management for environmental soundness and favourable work environment? PROSPERITY? Does it endorse Food security, Economic viability, Growth with Equity and Greater access to opportunities of marginalized communities? PEACE? Does it encourage Respect for cultural diversity, National sovereignty, Unity and Global cooperation. PEOPLE? Does it promote Social justice, Equity, Gender sensitivity, Participation, Full human potential, Cultural, moral and spiritual sensitivity, Self-determination, Sustainable population?
