Shellfish Allergy Essay
Shellfish Allergies
Shellfish can cause an Allergic Reaction. These reactions can be caused by certain species of shellfish
or all shellfish, you can be allergic to fish and not shellfish or vice versa. In the following pages I will
cover shellfish allergies, shellfish species, the types of reactions and the treatment options as well as
coping with the allergy.
What is a Shellfish Allergy?
A shellfish allergy is an allergic reaction caused by contact with or consumption of shellfish. An
allergic reaction to shellfish can range from mildly uncomfortable to life threatening and while some
food allergies diminish or go away with age a shellfish allergy is typically a lifelong allergy that can
affect multiple aspects of the allergy sufferer s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Shellfish Allergy can affect your life in many ways. When going out to eat the sufferer must be
aware of their surroundings if they are sensitive to the proteins in steam from cooking shellfish as well
as cross contamination. Avoiding all contact is the best way to avoid a reaction. According to FAAN,
There appears to be no cross reactivity between fish and shellfish, but an individual can be allergic to
both. Fish and shellfish allergic individuals should avoid touching fish or shellfish, going to a fish
market, and being in an area where fish or shellfish are being cooked. Fish and shellfish protein can
become airborne in the steam released during cooking and can cause an allergic reaction....To avoid
seafood allergic reactions avoid eating in seafood restaurants if you are allergic to fish or shellfish,
even if you intend to order a meat or poultry dish. The chance of cross contact between the food
makes these restaurants high risk places (The food allergy , anaphylaxis network; nonprofit food
allergy network cautions people with seafood allergies., 2005)
There are programs being designed to make eating out safer for those with food allergies according to
the authors of Food allergy risk communication in

The Physics Of A Wave
Introduction
As seen in the previous laboratory experiment, standing waves are produced when a wave and its
reflection are superposed. When a wave travels on a string we notice places of maximum amplitude
called antinodes, and regions of no amplitude at all, that we call nodes. When the medium in which
the wave travels is air instead of a string, similar observations are made. In this case, the antinodes are
regions of maximum compression in the air column, while the nodes are those regions which have the
lowest compression or pressure. These regions are sometimes called regions of rarefaction. In this
experiment, we used a Vernier microphone, a labquest, and PVC tubes to study waves in a column of
air.
Description of Set Up
The setup of this experiment was fairly easy. Firstly, the temperature probe and the microphone were
fixed to a ring stand and connected to the labquest; the labquest was itself connected to the CPU.
Photo 1. From here, the logger Pro was launched. The temperature reading was recorded (20.7 o C in
our case) and the microphone background reading was noted. As this point, the use of the temperature
probe was over, and so it was disconnected from the labquest.
Photo 1.
Outline of Technique
The length and diameter of a PVC pipe were measured. These measurement are recorded in table 1.
The system was programmed to start data collection the moment the noise level is 0.2 above the
background noise. Then, the PVC pipe was held perpendicular to the microphone

The Human Good Analysis
When a person is treated as a disease rather than an actual human being, it exposes a symptom of an
even bigger illness within our own society. The LGBTQ+ community has become more accepted in
modern times, however, there s is still hate, and stereotyping that dwells within. Often, when a person
comes out they are met with the bright light of self acceptance, but also, they must now face possible
danger from others who cannot accept them, especially in the workplace. A person should not have to
face discrimination from the workplace from the people they serve due to sexual orientation, society
must learn how to overcome their hate and instead value the person for who they are and not for
whom they love. I will dive into a case of discrimination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The easier said than done act to stand up against the discriminator is often never done. In this case, no
one stood up for Jimenez, not even Jimenez herself. When I say to stand up against, I don t mean to
yell, overreact, or use that as a reason to discriminate others. To me, to stand up against discrimination
is to inform the discriminator that their actions are discriminatory and instead ask them why they are
stating such statements. I feel that opens a conversation, and helps to get to the root of why he or she
feels that way, which in turn helps to educate. The great philosopher Rumi, was tolerant of people
from other cultures because he traveled and was able to learn about these different cultures, customs,
and people. He preferred to learn than to judge. Education is such an important aspect in the
progression against discrimination, and we should model ourselves to learn rather than judge, like
Rumi. As Rumi states, If you are irritated by every rub, how will you be polished? (Rad, 2010). I
interpret this as if a person is not willing to learn, how will you ever grow? If that man would have
been able to try to learn about my friend and about homosexuality, maybe he would have gotten a lot
closer towards being

Spencer s Position
1. Explain Spelke s position on the nature/nurture debate? Spelke s position focuses more on the
nature side of the debate as she describes her core knowledge theory. What this theory suggests is that
humans are born with innate knowledge that can be divided into four systems involving objects,
people, numbers, and space. In other words, Spelke believes that humans are born with certain
knowledge in each of these systems, which then provide a basis for learning from new experiences. In
her article, she further defends her theory by justifying that it is universal. For instance, she explains
that core knowledge is can be found in other animals, as well as in people from other cultures like the
Piraha. 2. Explain Spencer s position on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using developmental process theory to learn information about early development, Spencer
explains that it is a process that considers more than one variable which is not seen in Spelke s core
knowledge theory. For example, in the imprinting research with chicks brought up in darkness, he
states that nonvisual factors such as hearing the hen s call can lead to visual predisposition. This idea,
however, does not align with nativist research because innateness of imprinting was determined only
by the fact the visual experience was not

Individuals migrate to other countries to gain more comfortable lifestyle and learning the inter cultural

during their daily life. The exclusion is not just existing in schools, but also happening in the

Theseus As A Hero In The Heroic Hero
Myths consists of many legendary heroes within, but what makes them different from an ordinary
person. Many convey that it is not very challenging to be a hero, but wise ones know the struggles of
being a hero, which the texts Theseus and The Adventure of Odysseus , written in the book Mythology
by Edith Hamilton proves. Heroes may require help from others, but more often than not, they are
fearless fighters who do not need the aid of others to be successful. Heroes might easily gain credits
for the work of their fellow allies, but that does not mean it is easy to be a hero. A true hero should not
be afraid of pain or death just like the great legend Theseus. At the same time, these heroes must be
like the extraordinary hero Odysseus, who is successful in his heroic journey. Heroes need sidekicks,
whom they rely on for multiple reasons, but end up with all the credit; just like how Theseus obtains
all the glory for Ariadne s thinking and how Odysseus attains almost all the credits for Athena s work.
Ariadne tells Theseus the way to get out of the Labyrinth where the Minotaur stays, She would bring
about the escape if he would promise to take her back to Athens and marry her ( Theseus Hamilton
207). The only reason Theseus is able to slaughter the Minotaur and escape the maze is because of
Ariadne. Theseus leaves Ariadne to die on an island. Even if she dies because of a disease, he should
have at least informed the people of Athens that she is a huge reason for his success. At the end he
gains all the glory and becomes known for single handedly defeating the Minotaur. Moreover, Athena
releases Odysseus, after many arguments with the gods and sends him on a journey, which makes him
a legend. The Olympians were moved by her words... Zeus spoke for them all when he said they must
put their heads together and contrive a way for him to return ( The Adventures of Odysseus Hamilton
287). Athena releases Odysseus from his punishment after having many debates with the gods. Not
only that, but she also helps him by giving him a boat to travel back to his homeland. After a long
journey, he returns home and takes his kingdom back and becomes a legend, but not many appreciate
Athena for Odysseus success.

State Of The Essay
State of the Essay
The thing about these essays is that the problems I encounter with them are twofold. It s like that
scene in Jurassic Park where they realize that they have all the problems of a major zoo and a major
amusement park. First, I have to worry about the time managment piece. When students wait until the
last minute to do the work it s generally not very good or it s incomplete or both...probably both. That
is a self discipline issue that is completely removed from what I m actually trained to teach my
students. My hands are tied when I m confronted with this.
The second problem is the problem that I actually enjoy dealing with; writing. This problem is
multifaceted and fascinating. Working together at the task of becoming better writers is actually fun. I
ve seen it become fun for other people. It s not just me. As I stated, the writing problem is multi
faceted but those facets generally reside in one of three categories: content, form, and technicality. The
content of a 110 student s paper includes the personal narrative, the universal, and the academic. I ve
tried to explain the prompt a dozen different ways , but the one that has the best track record is this
one: Think of a moment where you had an epiphany about life and what it meant to live it...what it
meant to be you and why it meant that...something you learned about yourself that may benefit others
in the telling. It sounds pretty good, but it s still inadequate. It still elicits

Berkshire Vale Case Study Essay
Throughout the last couple months, spending large amounts of time with your household on Meadow
Vale, I have selected specific issues that should be addressed about your property and my
corresponding recommendations. I have carefully developed these recommendations, in order for your
property to flourish in the upcoming years and to overall improve current procedures being undertaken
at Meadow vale. 1. Managing the Property, Paddocks and Pasture In order to have a successful,
profitable farm the paddocks have to be in ideal conditions, whereas Meadow Vale paddocks are in
dire conditions. In order to maintain and support correct growth and supply abundant food for the
cattle this issue must be addressed. A large contributing factor to this problem is the current soil
quality of the paddocks. High quality pastures need essential minerals in order to obtain optimum
quality pastures and metabolisable protein intake. Meadow vale soil tests have indicated that they are
very deficient in Phosphorous and Sulfur, but this can very easily be fixed with a superphosphate
fertilizer. In order to increase the Olsen P value of 10 12ppm to the target range 18 20pmm and the
current sulfur 5 6ppm to the most favorable value of 15ppm, regular soil tests must be ... Show more

Legal vs, Justice
Compare Contrast Just and Legal The two words just and legal have been used interchangeably in
today s society and we have forgotten the extreme amount of separation between the two words
meanings. I am going to reflect on the different meanings of what is just verses what is legal and why
it is dangerous to define them as one and the same. Many similarities can be made between the two
words meanings stemming from the fact that both pertain to the justice system and to the upholding of
morality. The two separate in their definitions because legal does not show evenness on an issue and
the legality of something takes no account of its fairness and equality. Whereas, if something is just, it
is not because it is legal but because it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many of these examples, but one that sticks out in the media and in my own attention is the
treatment of women in many Islamic countries. There are many laws in place to oppress the views and
rights of the women inhabiting these countries, and failure to abide by them means imprisonment and
even death. These punishments are considered by many to be the status quo of an unjust law because
of the one sidedness and prejudice of the law. These show that the laws are unjust while still
remaining legal. These forms of oppression are used widely in a dictatorship which uses the fear of the
law to dishearten the country s inhabitants. One example of this would be a law in place in the Middle
East which states that a woman accusing rape must have at least FOUR male eye witnesses for
evidence. Even if she has the necessary evidence but is currently married, she can be sentenced to
death for adultery. This is just one example of an incredibly unjust law for many obvious reasons.
These are only a few of the differences shown between legality and justice illustrated by one of the
many examples present in modern society. The two words just and legal must be differentiated
between in order to have a common understanding of society and the legal system in place for society.
If the laws in some way do not benefit a majority of the society, then those laws need to be rewritten
or just thrown out. I hope to have shown many of

Shinto And Buddhism Similarities
Among East Asian religions Shinto and Buddhism tend to revolve around the same sphere of life. This
concept is mostly due to Japan borrowing many religious beliefs and practices from China which led
to a synthesis between Shinto and Buddhism. However, when it comes to Shinto shrines and Buddhist
temples there are remarkable differences and similarities between their ways of worship and
appearance. When it comes to Shinto there is no historical founder, no official scriptures, and no
organized teachings. However, Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama while scriptures
include the Pali Canon and the Mahayana sutras. Also, Buddhists take refuge in the principles of the

China, India, Japan, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia while it can also be in other places as Buddhism is
a widespread religion. Furthermore, when it comes to worship those in a Shinto shrine tend to clap
before a worship and in Buddhist temples there is usually silence as there is an incorporation of

In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, Written by Himself, Douglass
describes his overseer as a man of the most inflexible firmness and stone like coolness (Andrews 181).
He adds that his mistress s tender heart became stone (Andrews 188). When he first tries to free
himself from such people, Douglass ends up all alone, within the walls of a stone prison (Andrews
208). Throughout these references, the image of stone is repeatedly linked with the stonehearted and
dramatic Caucasian oppression of African Americans. James Baldwin also includes images of stone

Bell says, We re going to take you down, boy, for assault and battery (Baldwin 149). This is improper

the white Italian woman, who owns the vegetable stand, also defends Fonny s actions, the officer

In Part Four of On the Road, as Sal says good bye to Dean in preparation for his trip to Mexico, they
reminisce about old friends, with Dean showing Sal a photograph of Camille and his new baby. Sal

Plate Tectonics Video Analysis
The first video was on plate tectonics, the building blocks of earth. The focus was on the interior
workings of the earth and it described the movement of the earth and the process of redistribution. The
earth is made up of several surfaces and the plates are rigid slabs of solid rock that move around the
earth s crust and upper part of the mantel. They wrap around the globe like a net and interact at
boundaries, such as land and ocean.
There are three types of place boundaries, convergent, divergent and transform. Convergent
boundaries are regions that develop when two tectonic plates collide. The area surrounding the
collision becomes mountainous as the plates buckle. This happens through a process called
subduction. Divergent boundaries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different structural arrangements in the carbon atoms determine the outcome of the mineral.
Diamonds are the hardest mineral; they are formed under a covalent bond which is very strong.
Graphite on the other hand is one of the softest; it is held with a softer bond. Despite the difference in
structure, both of these minerals are made from the same substance, pure carbon.
Silicates are minerals that contain oxygen and silicon. These two elements can be found in 90% of the
earths minerals. While they do not produce the beauty of diamonds or the wealth of gold, they are
used in the making of construction material. The element in silicon is a common ingredient in many

Book Of Gabriel Research Paper
Gabriel
Gabriel is an angel who serves as a messenger for God to certain people. He is one of the three
archangels. Gabriel is mentioned in both the Old and the New Testaments of the Bible. First, in the
Old Testament, Gabriel appears to the prophet Daniel to explain his visions. Gabriel is described as,
one who looked like man, as he interprets Daniel s visions. He speaks to Daniel while he is sleeping.
After Gabriel s first visit, Daniel becomes tired and sick for days. Gabriel later visits Daniel again
providing him with more insight and understanding in an answered prayer.
In the New Testament, Gabriel, described as an angel of the Lord, first appears to Zacharias, the father
of John the Baptist. He tells him, Fear not, Zacharias: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Courage In The Film, Pursuit Of Happyness, And WALL-E
Courage, determination and perseverance all relate together. In my opinion you can t have one without

point in your life or on top of the world. You won t have a life lesson where none of these three words
are related to that life lesson, and that goes for both movies. Chris was taught to always fight for what

possible. My definition of courage is taking a bet on your bravery towards an event that would change
your result. Harvard did an article on the steps of learning courage as a skill and using it in situations.

Importantly, this is how we solve the most of the geophysical inverse problem and works well with

The authors apply NA, which has two important tuning parameters. Those parameters help to achieve
faster convergence. It is important to note that those parameters depend on the problem, but the
authors never mention how those parameters were tuned and convergence was decided.
The authors also mention that they use 24 parametric bounds of Shibhutani et al. (1996), Clitheroe et

that each layer has 4 parameters (thickness, S velocity, Vp/Vs ratio, and density). However, the

why not five/seven?
The authors say in line 240 that the set of 24 parameters in the inversion are relatively well

J.P. Morgan Chase Case Write Up
I. Case Summary
The passing of the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 repealed the Glass Steagall Act, and
the rescinding of the 1956 Bank Holding Company Act. The legislation spurred a flood of mergers and
acquisitions by permitting banking, insurance, and securities firms to be affiliated/associated with one
another, as a result it became extremely profitable and advantageous for financial institutions to
consolidate and diversify their holdings. In doing so a financial firm was capable of offering a
multitude of financial products and serviced through one encompassing entity. The particular market

III. Factors Contributing to Strategic Issue
(a) Industry Analysis
Buyer (Very High Bargaining Power): The individual buyer segment is the largest of the three
segments of the credit card customer market. The threat that the buyers represent is their ability to
force prices and quality down. Furthermore, due to the plethora of alternative products the switching
cost for the customer is very low, as noted in this case, buyers possess a high bargaining power which
results in higher operating costs resulting in a deduction of profits.
Supplier (High Bargaining Power): Credit card companies are a part of a larger portfolio of companies
that are held by large commercial banks. As a result of mergers and acquisitions investment banks
entered into the credit card market sector. CCS comprised 29% of the earnings for J.P. Morgan Chase
s commercial banking division, where J.P. Morgan is the financial holding company. Despite the fact
that the credit cars sector has few players and is saturated, there are still opportunities for growth,
through international and portfolio expansion.

Variola Vs Smallpox Case Study
1. The virus was traveling inside people up and down the railroad line. As people moved, so did
variola. The train station was exporting cases all of India and, in fact, all over the world (Preston, 85).
Exp.: Humans desire constant contact with one another. In this era, people are frequently doing
activities together, especially in a compacted area. Germs are active in those places just as much as
people. For thousands of years variola and smallpox have been spread from human to human, and yet
people still aren t cautious of the places they go, nor are some individuals considerate of one another.
The passage proves that by not being careful, humans have continued the disease s existence like a
tradition passed down from generation to generation.
2. In 1944, the committee and the World Health Assembly voted unanimously to destroy all the stock
of smallpox, and they set a deadline for June 30th, 1995, for the execution... The 1995 deadline past,

Alcohol And Substance Abuse And The National Minimum...
Since alcohol and substance abuse have come into play, along with health issues, and emotional issues
in peoples lives, questions started to arise. One being the legal age to start drinking alcohol. The
national minimum drinking age act was signed on July 17th, 1984 to the law, with the drinking age at
minimum being 21 (Archer M.D.). An adult is any person who s reached the age of maturity as
directed by law (Archer M.D.). Legally, being 18 years old in the U.S. is considered to be the adult
age, but the consumption of alcohol has always been withheld from the young adults of today, until
the age of 21. When you re 18 year old, you can apply for a credit card, legally marry whoever you

At the same time, moderate drinking helps lower levels of cholesterol and prevents colds, unless the
drinker smokes tobacco, meaning moderate drinking with care can be seen as not harmful when done
by responsible adults (Pringle). Even though 18 is the adult age in the U.S. 18 19 is still technically
the teenager age and teens are said to be at a more extreme risk than adults would be to die in a car
crash, partially because of alcohol s stronger effects on lighter people (Pringle). Should 18 be the legal
age for alcohol consumption? Although denying young adults to alcohol may seem unfair, 21 should
be the legal age for alcohol consumption in the U.S. rather than 18, because of the overall improved
death and health rates shown as the outcome.
Currently in the U.S. the legal drinking age is at 21, an age that many people believe is fair. In the U.S.
more than 25k lives have been saved because of the 21 minimum legal drinking age (Madd). Although
health facts and opinions all have their own facts, the statistics don t lie. Even with 18 20 year olds
legally being accepted as adults, this age group is still more likely to illegally drink because they re so
close to the legal age. But those who start drinking before the age of 21 are more likely to be involved
in violent behaviors, attempt suicide, have unprotected sex, develop alcoholic problems, and more
(Pringle). On top of this, drinking at a young age greatly increases the risk of developing alcohol

The Purpose of Advertising Essay
The Purpose of Advertising
The purpose of advertising is to familiarise the public with a certain brand or product. Companies
spend millions of pounds a year on advertising so that when the public are searching for a product or

Companies need to ensure that their money is spent wisely. They do this by completing extensive

The classic, sophisticated design immediately sets the tone for the advert and for the type of audience
it has been aimed at.
Chanel is an icon of the 21st century and its image needs to be preserved by attracting new customers.
The modern, yet timeless layout of the promotion emphasises on this, but the advert is traditional
enough to appeal to older audiences. This shows that although Chanel wish to attract a newer
audience, they also desire to keep their traditional customers loyal to the marque, hence the non
controversial advertisment.
The advert itself has remained almost unchanged for the last forty years, as Chanel wish to preserve
their image. However, to appeal to successive generations the visual treatment has recieved subtle
changes, such as the inclusion of a more modern looking colour scheme.
The advert instantly grabs the reader with its striking, simplistic design. The contrast between the two

The Impact Of Multi-Ethnicity On Queer Identity
The Impact of Multi Ethnicity on Queer Identity During the interview, Hans pointed out that his multi
ethnic background has a big impact on his identity formation and his current lifestyle. In particular, he
stressed on the psychological trauma of the doubt, that it would be impossible for him to know for
certain if discrimination has prevented him from access to tangible opportunities or benefits: there is
looming sense of did I not get this because of my lack of skill or talent or is it because of my sexual
identity and race? I think the doubt is even more pervasive and detrimental than any one instance of
explicit discrimination. He stated that this doubt is ever present, and he often feels helpless about it,
because racism and heterosexism is built in most of the societies and cultures, and most of systemic
prejudice derives from actions and ideologies that are covert and oblique. Prejudice is dark, and
idiotic, and frustrating, and pure negativity... I try not to get too bogged down with the fact that I feel
that my personal culture is working against my ultimate goals in life.
Although he never experienced bullying or abusive relationship, he dealt with various forms of
microaggressions and subtle discrimination against his sexuality and his ethnicity throughout his life.
For example, a form of microinvalidation happens when his female friends make insensitive
comments as you don t dress well for gay guy, because this comment carries hidden insulting
message.

Therefore the mass of the unknown object could be predicted based on the analysis of data through the
use of linear regression form. This is because the scared plots of the second graph created best
resemble a straight line, meaning that the unknown mass is predictable and can be placed on the
graph. An R2 value of one or close to one means the relation is fit and present. The mass of the
unknown object was determined through the use of the linear regression equation of the second graph.
The period of this unknown mass was squared and then inserted this number into the period squared
equation. The mass was determined to be between about 330g. Like in any other experiment there is
room for error, this room for error is present since the results are based of numbers that aren t
completely exact. The graph of period squared vs mass proved to only be trusted after 300g, the graph
for period vs mass had the same results. A questionable scatter point that did arise was on the graph
for period squared vs mass. In this graph a plot was placed at .011 seconds which compared to the
others is quite different. This could be the error in the experiment, outside factors such as the force
that was applied to the object could have dramatically changed the results. In order to control this
factor and get more accurate results the experiment would have to factor that the same force be

Hieroglyphics In Ancient Egypt
In ancient Egypt over 2,000 years ago they could not talk in a normal language, they could not

Hieroglyphics were symbols used for their writing. Therefore, the Egyptians created symbols for
characters. They had 26 letters that they used. The ancient Egyptians had over 700 total characters!
They did not use normal letters like we use now. They used drawings for each character and letter. The
Phoenicians created the first alphabet, but the Egyptians converted some of that knowledge into
drawings for each and every single characters ever designed in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians

Some letters like T, Q, and I are very simple to form and draw into the papyrus, although letters like A,

the pictures is done correctly, it will show more similarity than a letter will show to the picture. For

In meetings requested by managers, various agendas are discussed and explained. Of them, the plan to
establish self directed and high performance teams is spotlighted. The company needs to establish a
team that combines the different talent and work performance of its employees in order to accomplish
a particular goal and purpose. Concerns arise when some of the company s managers are experiencing
some teams that are self directed and high performing, while others are not. Therefore, discussions are
held which aim at familiarizing all employees with what it means to be self directed and high

In the process, they brainstorm on ideas like building elements of a successful team. If a manager has
not fulfilled the demand of having this type of team, they are focused on as needing more aid in

The Comparison and Contrast of Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath The two poems, And One for My

literary elements such as structure, tone and symbolism. Structures in each poem are alike with length
but differ with the actual form. The tone Plath conveys is negative one while Sexton s is more neutral.
The symbolism in Daddy was also negative with symbols of the devil but Sexton used a nursery

The tone associated with suicide and bad communication is not positive because these are not happy
things and consequently, with Plath mentioning these, the poem takes on a dark tone which reflects
her relationship with her father. On the other hand, Sexton creates a tone that is much lighter by using
words that have neutral or positive connotations. Her choice of diction does not hint either way
whether her relationship with her father was good or bad, it seems to stay neutral which reflects her
objective tone throughout the poem. She begins to introduce him as a born salesman in line 1 and a
born talker in line 4, which at most, infers that he was a charismatic person (1,4). Sexton goes on to
list everything he was in line 15 stating he was a peddler, a hawker, a merchant and an Indian Chief
(15). By these descriptions her father does not appear to be out of the ordinary. He was just a traveler,
committed to his work and not much else. The way she describes him also seems to be observational
so possibly her relationship with him was distanced and unattached. Therefore, the tone echoes the
theme that the relationship she had with her father because their relationship was disconnected and
that was the emotion provoked as she remembered him. In addition to structure and tone, the authors
both use symbolism to connect to the theme. In Daddy , Plath once again mirrors her feelings and
relationship with her father by the use of negative symbols such

The s Theory Of Personal Identity And Diversity

Homicidal Somnambulism
Imagine that one night you end up sleepwalking and end up killing someone. Sounds crazy doesn t it?
Things like this have actually happened. There are now 68 known cases of homicidal somnambulism.
(BBC) . Homicidal somnambulism is the act of murdering someone while in the state of sleepwalking.
The legal argument for this has been that the defendant was not in their normal state of mind while
this has happened and therefore cannot be blamed for such a crime.
Locke is known to believe in his theory of personal identity and diversity. Locke s theory talks about
consciousness and how our consciousness makes our identity through our experiences. Locke states
that we are only considered guilty of committing a crime if we were aware of it and remember doing
it. Although I agree with Locke in some terms regarding our identity having something to do with our
consciousness, I do not fully agree. I believe that personal identity is what we see ourselves as whether
that be physical features, morals, or anything that crosses those lines.
One of the problems that comes to mind with this to me is how could we prove that someone was
actually sleepwalking and that they are unaware of their actions. Can we trust them and take their
word for it or is there a scientific way in which we can prove it.
Locke distinguishes between man and person. Locke s theory talks about consciousness and how our

Introduction of Indirect Taxing on Energy Drinks in France
This article discusses how France introduced an indirect tax on energy drinks at €1 per liter. The tax
was imposed to tackle alcohol consumption among France s young population and energy drinks
consumption due to its high levels of caffeine and sugar.
A form of government intervention, an indirect tax, a tax placed on consumption that is considered
indirect since households only pay then when they buy a good, affects the energy drinks market
outcomes.
Pertaining to the diagram above, previous to government intervention, the energy drinks market was
allocated purely by the forces of demand and supply1 with market equilibrium at PE (original price)
and QE (original quantity). After a tax of €1 per liter was imposed, the equilibrium quantity of energy
drinks produced and consumed decreased to Qtax, as the supply curve shifted upwards to Stax .
Furthermore, the price paid by consumers increased to Pc from PE and price received by the energy
drinks companies decreased to Pp from PE. In addition, consumer expenditure on energy drinks
decreased as well. Due to indirect tax, this changed from (d+e+f+g+h) to (b+d+f+g) since consumers
are purchasing less of the good as the price increased. The company s revenue also decreased
significantly from (d+e+f+g+h) to (f+g), as the quantity of output decreased. However, the
government received tax revenue of (b+d), increasing its budget. Indirect tax on energy drinks
ultimately results in underallocation of resources. Too little of

Effects of Divorce
On average in America 45 percent of marriages end in divorce. Divorce does not only affect the
parties involved; it also affects the children involved. In America, 40 percent of children will see and
experience divorce first hand alongside of their parents. Divorce is one of the most stressful events a
family can undergo. On average, 80 percent of children will be placed in the primary care of one

Divorce in turn also negatively impacts the children s education. Children often have a set schedule of
when they will be at their mother s home, and when they will be at their father s home. When children
have to go back and forth between two homes they often experience a fall in their overall grades.
When children are going from one home to the next, they often have a hard time adjusting to the
different environments of the homes. This can make it difficult for the children to study or complete
their academic materials (Fagan Patrick F., and Robert Rector). Studies show children who have
divorced parents are twice as likely to repeat a grade or grades. The children are also five times more
likely to be expelled or suspended from school. They are twice as likely to drop out of high school,
which makes it less likely for them to attend college (Effects of Divorce on Children s Education).
Divorce also has a negative impact on a family s income. Children who have married parents, who
both work, have an average income of about $43,600 a year. When children are in a divorced family
with only one working parents, the family has an average income of about $25,300 a year. Families
who have faced divorce also face a higher risk of living in poverty. When a family is faced with
divorce the family will more than likely move into poverty due to the loss of one parent s income. On

[14], this process in science is called irredentism [15]. Thus, in the second half of the XIX century
after the establishment of the Russian Chinese border part of Kazakhs who had been wintering in the
former Qing Empire territory was in the allegiance of China. Subsequently, in 1916 after the
suppression of the anti colonial rebellion in 1932 1934. During dispossession, collectivisation and

Fragment Of A Floor Mosaic Essay
The art piece is Fragment of a Floor Mosaic with a Personification of Ktisis. The Metropolitan
Museum of Art holds this marble and glass mosaic in gallery number 301. The fragment of a floor
mosaic comes from around 500 550 CE and has been restored by modern techniques and copied from
a picture ( Fragment of a Floor Mosaic with a Personification of Ktisis ). The artist is unknown and
originates from the Byzantine Empire. The method is from the classical tradition of personifying
abstract ideals and went on throughout the Christian era in a multitude of places around the basin of
the Mediterranean ( Fragment of a Floor Mosaic with a Personification of Ktisis). A Greek inscription
by her head establishes her as Ktisis and the personification of being a generous donor. Her role is
indicated by her holding the rod, a measuring tool for the Roman foot ( Fragment of a ... Show more

geometrical in shape and give the appearance of being shiny. In this mosaic, the forms are distinct and
formed on a flat plane. This appears to be multicolored especially in the boarding of the neckline of
her dress that is created by the black and white tesserae that appears to resemble pearls ( Fragment of a
Floor Mosaic with a Personification of Ktisis ). The face of the women seems to have an olive
complexion with shades of pink arranged asymmetrical with her large staring eyes that is typical of
Byzantine art in this time ( Fragment of a Floor Mosaic with a Personification of Ktisis ). The text
from the online collection states that blue glass added to the mosaic represented sapphires and the red
and green glass is a sixth century Byzantine style. The hair style and eyes that are seen in this mosaic
was seen in a bust of the Lady or Rank, from mid sixth century Constantinople ( Fragment of a Floor

  • 2. Shellfish Allergy Essay Shellfish Allergies Shellfish can cause an Allergic Reaction. These reactions can be caused by certain species of shellfish or all shellfish, you can be allergic to fish and not shellfish or vice versa. In the following pages I will cover shellfish allergies, shellfish species, the types of reactions and the treatment options as well as coping with the allergy. What is a Shellfish Allergy? A shellfish allergy is an allergic reaction caused by contact with or consumption of shellfish. An allergic reaction to shellfish can range from mildly uncomfortable to life threatening and while some food allergies diminish or go away with age a shellfish allergy is typically a lifelong allergy that can affect multiple aspects of the allergy sufferer s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Shellfish Allergy can affect your life in many ways. When going out to eat the sufferer must be aware of their surroundings if they are sensitive to the proteins in steam from cooking shellfish as well as cross contamination. Avoiding all contact is the best way to avoid a reaction. According to FAAN, There appears to be no cross reactivity between fish and shellfish, but an individual can be allergic to both. Fish and shellfish allergic individuals should avoid touching fish or shellfish, going to a fish market, and being in an area where fish or shellfish are being cooked. Fish and shellfish protein can become airborne in the steam released during cooking and can cause an allergic reaction....To avoid seafood allergic reactions avoid eating in seafood restaurants if you are allergic to fish or shellfish, even if you intend to order a meat or poultry dish. The chance of cross contact between the food makes these restaurants high risk places (The food allergy , anaphylaxis network; nonprofit food allergy network cautions people with seafood allergies., 2005) There are programs being designed to make eating out safer for those with food allergies according to the authors of Food allergy risk communication in ... • 3. The Physics Of A Wave Introduction As seen in the previous laboratory experiment, standing waves are produced when a wave and its reflection are superposed. When a wave travels on a string we notice places of maximum amplitude called antinodes, and regions of no amplitude at all, that we call nodes. When the medium in which the wave travels is air instead of a string, similar observations are made. In this case, the antinodes are regions of maximum compression in the air column, while the nodes are those regions which have the lowest compression or pressure. These regions are sometimes called regions of rarefaction. In this experiment, we used a Vernier microphone, a labquest, and PVC tubes to study waves in a column of air. Description of Set Up The setup of this experiment was fairly easy. Firstly, the temperature probe and the microphone were fixed to a ring stand and connected to the labquest; the labquest was itself connected to the CPU. Photo 1. From here, the logger Pro was launched. The temperature reading was recorded (20.7 o C in our case) and the microphone background reading was noted. As this point, the use of the temperature probe was over, and so it was disconnected from the labquest. Photo 1. Outline of Technique The length and diameter of a PVC pipe were measured. These measurement are recorded in table 1. The system was programmed to start data collection the moment the noise level is 0.2 above the background noise. Then, the PVC pipe was held perpendicular to the microphone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Human Good Analysis When a person is treated as a disease rather than an actual human being, it exposes a symptom of an even bigger illness within our own society. The LGBTQ+ community has become more accepted in modern times, however, there s is still hate, and stereotyping that dwells within. Often, when a person comes out they are met with the bright light of self acceptance, but also, they must now face possible danger from others who cannot accept them, especially in the workplace. A person should not have to face discrimination from the workplace from the people they serve due to sexual orientation, society must learn how to overcome their hate and instead value the person for who they are and not for whom they love. I will dive into a case of discrimination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The easier said than done act to stand up against the discriminator is often never done. In this case, no one stood up for Jimenez, not even Jimenez herself. When I say to stand up against, I don t mean to yell, overreact, or use that as a reason to discriminate others. To me, to stand up against discrimination is to inform the discriminator that their actions are discriminatory and instead ask them why they are stating such statements. I feel that opens a conversation, and helps to get to the root of why he or she feels that way, which in turn helps to educate. The great philosopher Rumi, was tolerant of people from other cultures because he traveled and was able to learn about these different cultures, customs, and people. In other words, Spelke believes that humans are born with certain knowledge in each of these systems, which then provide a basis for learning from new experiences. In her article, she further defends her theory by justifying that it is universal. • 7. Theseus As A Hero In The Heroic Hero Myths consists of many legendary heroes within, but what makes them different from an ordinary person. Many convey that it is not very challenging to be a hero, but wise ones know the struggles of being a hero, which the texts Theseus and The Adventure of Odysseus , written in the book Mythology by Edith Hamilton proves. Heroes may require help from others, but more often than not, they are fearless fighters who do not need the aid of others to be successful. Heroes might easily gain credits for the work of their fellow allies, but that does not mean it is easy to be a hero. A true hero should not be afraid of pain or death just like the great legend Theseus. At the same time, these heroes must be like the extraordinary hero Odysseus, who is successful in his heroic journey. Heroes need sidekicks, whom they rely on for multiple reasons, but end up with all the credit; just like how Theseus obtains all the glory for Ariadne s thinking and how Odysseus attains almost all the credits for Athena s work. Ariadne tells Theseus the way to get out of the Labyrinth where the Minotaur stays, She would bring about the escape if he would promise to take her back to Athens and marry her ( Theseus Hamilton 207). The only reason Theseus is able to slaughter the Minotaur and escape the maze is because of Ariadne. Theseus leaves Ariadne to die on an island. Even if she dies because of a disease, he should have at least informed the people of Athens that she is a huge reason for his success. At the end he gains all the glory and becomes known for single handedly defeating the Minotaur. Moreover, Athena releases Odysseus, after many arguments with the gods and sends him on a journey, which makes him a legend. The Olympians were moved by her words... Zeus spoke for them all when he said they must put their heads together and contrive a way for him to return ( The Adventures of Odysseus Hamilton 287). Athena releases Odysseus from his punishment after having many debates with the gods. Not only that, but she also helps him by giving him a boat to travel back to his homeland. After a long journey, he returns home and takes his kingdom back and becomes a legend, but not many appreciate Athena for Odysseus success. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s like that scene in Jurassic Park where they realize that they have all the problems of a major zoo and a major amusement park. First, I have to worry about the time managment piece. When students wait until the last minute to do the work it s generally not very good or it s incomplete or both...probably both. That is a self discipline issue that is completely removed from what I m actually trained to teach my students. My hands are tied when I m confronted with this. The second problem is the problem that I actually enjoy dealing with; writing. This problem is multifaceted and fascinating. Working together at the task of becoming better writers is actually fun. I ve seen it become fun for other people. It s not just me. As I stated, the writing problem is multi faceted but those facets generally reside in one of three categories: content, form, and technicality. The content of a 110 student s paper includes the personal narrative, the universal, and the academic. I ve tried to explain the prompt a dozen different ways , but the one that has the best track record is this one: Think of a moment where you had an epiphany about life and what it meant to live it...what it meant to be you and why it meant that...something you learned about yourself that may benefit others in the telling. I have carefully developed these recommendations, in order for your property to flourish in the upcoming years and to overall improve current procedures being undertaken at Meadow vale. 1. Managing the Property, Paddocks and Pasture In order to have a successful, profitable farm the paddocks have to be in ideal conditions, whereas Meadow Vale paddocks are in dire conditions. In order to maintain and support correct growth and supply abundant food for the cattle this issue must be addressed. A large contributing factor to this problem is the current soil quality of the paddocks. High quality pastures need essential minerals in order to obtain optimum quality pastures and metabolisable protein intake. Meadow vale soil tests have indicated that they are very deficient in Phosphorous and Sulfur, but this can very easily be fixed with a superphosphate fertilizer. I am going to reflect on the different meanings of what is just verses what is legal and why it is dangerous to define them as one and the same. Many similarities can be made between the two words meanings stemming from the fact that both pertain to the justice system and to the upholding of morality. There are many of these examples, but one that sticks out in the media and in my own attention is the treatment of women in many Islamic countries. There are many laws in place to oppress the views and rights of the women inhabiting these countries, and failure to abide by them means imprisonment and even death. These punishments are considered by many to be the status quo of an unjust law because of the one sidedness and prejudice of the law. These show that the laws are unjust while still remaining legal. These forms of oppression are used widely in a dictatorship which uses the fear of the law to dishearten the country s inhabitants. One example of this would be a law in place in the Middle East which states that a woman accusing rape must have at least FOUR male eye witnesses for evidence. Even if she has the necessary evidence but is currently married, she can be sentenced to death for adultery. This is just one example of an incredibly unjust law for many obvious reasons. The Impact Of Multi-Ethnicity On Queer Identity The Impact of Multi Ethnicity on Queer Identity During the interview, Hans pointed out that his multi ethnic background has a big impact on his identity formation and his current lifestyle. In particular, he stressed on the psychological trauma of the doubt, that it would be impossible for him to know for certain if discrimination has prevented him from access to tangible opportunities or benefits: there is looming sense of did I not get this because of my lack of skill or talent or is it because of my sexual identity and race? I think the doubt is even more pervasive and detrimental than any one instance of explicit discrimination. He stated that this doubt is ever present, and he often feels helpless about it, because racism and heterosexism is built in most of the societies and cultures, and most of systemic prejudice derives from actions and ideologies that are covert and oblique. The tone associated with suicide and bad communication is not positive because these are not happy things and consequently, with Plath mentioning these, the poem takes on a dark tone which reflects her relationship with her father. On the other hand, Sexton creates a tone that is much lighter by using words that have neutral or positive connotations. Her choice of diction does not hint either way whether her relationship with her father was good or bad, it seems to stay neutral which reflects her objective tone throughout the poem. She begins to introduce him as a born salesman in line 1 and a born talker in line 4, which at most, infers that he was a charismatic person (1,4). Sexton goes on to list everything he was in line 15 stating he was a peddler, a hawker, a merchant and an Indian Chief (15). By these descriptions her father does not appear to be out of the ordinary. He was just a traveler, committed to his work and not much else. The way she describes him also seems to be observational so possibly her relationship with him was distanced and unattached. Therefore, the tone echoes the theme that the relationship she had with her father because their relationship was disconnected and that was the emotion provoked as she remembered him. In addition to structure and tone, the authors both use symbolism to connect to the theme. Sounds crazy doesn t it? Things like this have actually happened. There are now 68 known cases of homicidal somnambulism. (BBC) . Homicidal somnambulism is the act of murdering someone while in the state of sleepwalking. The legal argument for this has been that the defendant was not in their normal state of mind while this has happened and therefore cannot be blamed for such a crime. Locke is known to believe in his theory of personal identity and diversity. Locke s theory talks about consciousness and how our consciousness makes our identity through our experiences. Locke states that we are only considered guilty of committing a crime if we were aware of it and remember doing it. Although I agree with Locke in some terms regarding our identity having something to do with our consciousness, I do not fully agree. I believe that personal identity is what we see ourselves as whether that be physical features, morals, or anything that crosses those lines. One of the problems that comes to mind with this to me is how could we prove that someone was actually sleepwalking and that they are unaware of their actions. Can we trust them and take their word for it or is there a scientific way in which we can prove it. Locke distinguishes between man and person. A form of government intervention, an indirect tax, a tax placed on consumption that is considered indirect since households only pay then when they buy a good, affects the energy drinks market outcomes. Pertaining to the diagram above, previous to government intervention, the energy drinks market was allocated purely by the forces of demand and supply1 with market equilibrium at PE (original price) and QE (original quantity). After a tax of €1 per liter was imposed, the equilibrium quantity of energy drinks produced and consumed decreased to Qtax, as the supply curve shifted upwards to Stax . Furthermore, the price paid by consumers increased to Pc from PE and price received by the energy drinks companies decreased to Pp from PE. In addition, consumer expenditure on energy drinks decreased as well. Due to indirect tax, this changed from (d+e+f+g+h) to (b+d+f+g) since consumers are purchasing less of the good as the price increased. The company s revenue also decreased significantly from (d+e+f+g+h) to (f+g), as the quantity of output decreased. However, the government received tax revenue of (b+d), increasing its budget.
