Preventing A Life Of Regret
Preventing a Life of Regret The ruckus of the crowd pierced the fallen players ears in the form of a
serrated knife. Feeling the blood pulsing through his head caused him to clench his eyes shut in agony
and grab at his hair, hoping to block out the unbearable waves of pain. The blurry forms of his coach
and teammates surrounded his vision and as much as he wanted to get up and tell them that he was
fine, he knew that there was no way that he would be able to recover from this injury easily. He had
known that something was wrong with him, but he had pushed these thoughts out of his mind,
knowing that he could not disappoint his fellow teammates. They had helped him in too many ways
and ignoring the clear symptoms of a concussion seemed like the best way to repay them. Now, he
knew he was wrong, but it was too late. He was going to pay for his decision, either now, or farther on
down the line. A concussion is something that is caused by a hit or blow to the head and is a risk that
all people who play sports have to face, especially people who choose to play football, a sport that
requires courage, strength, and stamina. It is also a sport where choosing to stay in a game, when a
player is clearly injured with a concussion, can determine how the player may live the rest of his life.
Although with teens, the risk of getting a concussion has deadlier consequences and can jeopardize
their future in more ways than one. 1.2 million teens play highschool football and there are

Bioluminescent Life Forms Essay
Being able to see in the dark often does not come easy. For humans, we typically need to find a
flashlight, and more times than not, find new batteries to power the device. For animals, it can be
different. Some animals may see fine and night, and some animals have large eyes like owls that
capture lots of light, and some animals use other senses to gather information about their
surroundings. We humans on the other hand are left fumbling for candles when the power is out for
any length of time. But there are some life forms that have a completely different approach
bioluminescent life forms. Bioluminescence life forms make their own light and carry it around in
their bodies. This paper will address bioluminescence and try to ... Show more content on

In luminescent animals, chemical compounds mix together to produce a glow. Several earthworm
species create a luminescent secretion that does not have an obvious purpose. Unlike incandescence, it
neither requires nor generates much heat. The reason for some mushrooms glow is also unclear,
although some scientist believe it attracts insects that spread the mushrooms spores.
With the expanding technology and recent discoveries, more questions about bioluminescence are
answered daily but the history of bioluminescence dates back thousands of years. Scientists had a
basic idea of the difference between incandescence and luminescence as far back as 2500 years ago.
One of the earliest written accounts of bioluminescence dates back to Aristotle, and in the first century
Gaius Plinius Secundus, a roman statesman, naturalist, and writer who began to document some of the
glowing creatures near his home. There he had access to the Bay of Naples, a body of water known to
many bioluminescent creatures. He identified many of the glowing animals, including the Plumo
Marinus, recognized today as the Purple Jellyfish, and he also remarked on the luminescent clam,
Pholas dactylus. He was also the first recorded human use of bioluminescence, describing how he
used a walking stick rubbed against a jellyfish s slime to light up his trail. During the next 1,300 years,
research of bioluminescent organisms was rare because such suspicious creatures were often

Difference Between Classical Conditioning And Operant...
According to Woolfolk (2005), learning is a process which causes permanent changes in knowledge
and behavior through experience. Learning is a key for every child to understand what is going on
around them and how should they react to that stimuli. It involves the use of cognitive skills to
interpret those signals and analyse them accordingly. Defecation or lesion in cognitive sites may cause
mental retardation or learning problems to them, thus, their mental maturity may be lag behind their
current age. The consequence is, they maybe little bit clumsy to understand certain orders or command
given by his or her parents. Conditioning is a primary step for every child to learn. Morris and Maisto
(2005) stated that, the well defined stimuli which may cause the acquisition of specific pattern of
behavior is what conditioning means. It is composed of two types, Classical Conditioning and Operant
Conditioning. Classical Conditioning which is first inspired by Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849 1936) is a

Dark Energy Research Paper
UNIVERSE
The universe might have enough energy density to stop its expansion and re collapse, but it might
have so little energy density that it would never stop expanding scientist from NASA What is the
Universe made up of?
The universe is suspected to be made out of 3 substances. The first substance is Normal Matter, which
consist of the atoms that make up stars, planets and almost everything alive whether it be abiotic or
biotic and every other visible thing in the universe. Normal matter even though it sounds like it makes
up almost the entire universe surprisingly it accounts for the smallest portion of the universe, which is
somewhere between 1% and 5%. Since there is more unknown than known of Dark Energy it is
difficult to know exactly ho much of the universe is Dark Energy. Henceforth scientist have theorized
that roughly 68% of the Universe is Dark Energy. And scientist at NASA have concluded that Dark
Matter makes up about 27% of the Universe. What is Dark Energy? You can go to this site and read
what is Dark Energy or you can read the summary of what it could be. To summarize it all Dark

light can escape. And since there is no light we ca not see it due to it being so dark rendering it
virtually invisible, luckily we have created space telescopes with special tools to help us locate Black
Holes. As we all know the strength of the gravity of the Black Hole varies on its size, but what we don
t know is that where does everything a black hole pulls into it go? For as long as we have know about
Black Holes we have wondered, where do the things a black hole takes go? Many scientist have

The Tactics Of Combat Civil Wars And Instill Peace
The three main tactics used to combat civil wars and instill peace in an area are peacekeeping, peace
enforcement, and counterinsurgency. The first tactic I will address is peacekeeping. Once the two
parties of a conflict have agreed to a truce, peacekeepers will come in to guarantee the implementation
of the truce and try to maintain peace. The duty of peacekeepers is not only [to] monitoring troops, but
also with human rights monitoring, protecting and delivering humanitarian aid, demobilizing and
retraining troops, reforming police forces, protecting civilians, reforming legal systems, assisting in
economic reconstruction, and sometimes administering the entire state until a new government can
take over. In other words, after civil wars, peacekeepers are often charged not only with military
monitoring duties, but with reforming the essential institutions of the state (Peacekeeping, Peace
Enforcement, and UN Reform Lise Morjé Howard, P 1 2). There are three ways that peacekeepers are
able to use their power in order to succeed. These three ways include coercion, inducement, and
persuasion. Coercion involves a display of power, like swagger, to wield off attacks. Troops use
swagger in several scenarios. One of the most common times the use of swagger will occur is during
policing, where troops will patrol the area. Since one of the main doctrines of peacekeeping involves
not using force, this type of coercion has been deemed useful. Even though the majority of the time

Discuss The Differences Between The Chesapeake And New...
Starting in the 1600 s, the English began immigrating to the New World. While the settlers from both
the Chesapeake and New England colonies were originally exposed to the same religion within the
Anglican Church, as well as primarily the same intention within the government system, the colonies
differed in how they would manage their societies once they were settled in the New World. The
Northern New England areas economy was built upon rocks. Their soil was very rocky, farming was
much harder than in chesapeake. The people who settled in this colony were families not single white
men who were to be indentured slaves. These factors created the New England colonies. As far as the
social aspect of the two colonies, there were significant differences in how the colonies were
populated. New England came over with big families which they would use to begin small
communities. The relationships that were already built between these settlers would go to benefit them
and provide the means to creating the society in an organized and well thought out manner. When you
are able to develop and rely on ones you trust making a wholesome community becomes easier, the
supplies, the labor needed to be done and issues that need to be dealt with come at a faster pass with a
trusted group of people (doc 1). The Ships List of Emigrants Bound for New England, 1635, lists
families who boarded the ships, giving the relation and age of each member (doc 2). Within these

Symbolism Of Society In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
William Golding s modern classic, Lord of the Flies showcases a group of boys stranded on an island,
in hopes of rescue and survival. This depicts how a society of boys would function if civilization had
not been forced on them. Moreover, this novel shows us Golding s inner kept judgement of the
function of society. The boys first meet together on the island by using what later becomes a symbol
of law; the conch. It is first used as an object to keep order amongst the boys, but later becomes the
center of conflict between two clashing tribes. It represents the battle between order and chaos, and
the outcome is Golding s view of which rules in society. A constant occurrence in the book is the
bullying of the characters, Simon and Piggy. Although these characters contributed greatly to the
development of the group, their actions were never appreciated. They were both outcasts in the tribe,
never listened to, nor included in any conversations. Golding represents these characters as religion
and intelligence, and so the outcast of these boys gives us a window into which parts of society the
author deems are valuable and unnecessary. Jack, the antagonist in the book is portrayed as a vile,
aggressive creature. He and his hunters become obsessed with bloodshed and macabre, and so they
kill to satisfy their needs. What starts as killing pigs for meat as a means of survival, soon turns into an
addiction for blood leading to a bloodbath between the boys. The constant hunger for

Humanities Essay
The Renaissance and Baroque periods in European history played an important role in the
development of humanities in their respectable age. During these periods it established a time of
rebirth in humanisms and improvement of cultural accomplishments. The Renaissance period
provided artistic freedom and individualism. It began around the 14th century in Italy and spread
throughout Europe until the 16th century. Renaissance means rebirth and humanism of the renaissance

The Renaissance period also gave birth to the natural sciences that included astronomy, geology and
evolution. The 16th and 18th century Baroque period was known throughout Europe, North and South
America but originated in Rome, Italy. The Baroque period gave way to a time of emotionally
expression through paintings, art, music, literature and politics as its platform. The Roman Catholic
churches became influential during the Baroque period because of religious transformation as a
reaction to the Protestant Reformation. The Roman Catholic Church decided to use Baroque art to
communicate religious and biblical themes to their advantage by requesting painters to paint religious
pictures. Catholic painter Peter Paul Rubens drew inspiration from his religious background and
painted the Marie de Medici to show his respect to the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic
churches purpose for using religious paintings was to reach the less fortunate of their society. Those
who were uneducated and in the minority sector; by this they would connect and reach others so that
they would return to their belief in the catholic faith. During the Baroque period the Catholic faith
praised the church for their power and influence. The Baroque art movement focused on unity and
harmony and incorporated a style that consists of drama. This type of art was forceful, sensual,
extravagant and bursting with energy and gave

Importance Of Library Services In The 21st Century
Accessing library services in the 21st Century?
In the 21st century, collections and services will need to meet customer s needs in a much more
personalized and customized way. Collections will need to become more diverse, in terms of format,
language, and access. Librarians will need to have knowledge of new formats for library materials,
and plan to use their funds in purchasing materials that will meet and promote various skills.
Customers will want library materials that use their critical thinking and problem solving skills,
promote creativity and innovation, allow for communication and collaboration, and teach information,
media and technology skills. Library materials, that are accessible 24/7, in a range of cutting edge
formats, that promote and support learning and using new skill sets, will be the norm. Library
services, like library materials, will need to be accessible 24/7 in a 21st Century library. Librarians
will need to think about services as customer centered and focused. Reference services in the 21st
century will not be based on the librarian s knowledge and access to information, but the customer s
starting point. 21st century customers are coming to librarians, not for answers to questions, but for
new access points, or new skill sets. Children s and Teen services will need to incorporate skills for the
21st Century, including critical thinking, innovation, collaboration, information and technological
literacy. The expectation will be that library

Clara Barton Physical Description
I got to know my saint, Clarissa Harlow Barton through a variety of mediums. These included books
from the Regis College library as well as online articles, poems, biography videos and documentaries.
Along with these various sources I found through my research images of Clara. These images ranged
from self portraits at different ages in her life to her working in the field as well as teaching students in
a classroom. Clarissa Harlow Barton was born on December 25th of 1821, in North Oxford,
Massachusetts which was located 50 miles West of Boston. Her parents were Stephen and Sarah
Barton and her four siblings were Dorothea,Stephen, David, and Sally. Her and her siblings grew up in

She was described as short, plump, and homely, she had yet to gain the character that would render her
face so interesting according to her parents and siblings. Clara s mother also neglected the child s
thick lustrous dark brown hair which was noted to be her one good feature. Her hair was close cropped
which only served to emphasize her broad forehead and sallow complexion. Along with this, Clara
had a speech impediment which caused her to lisp and this lead to increasing her bashfulness. Due to
all of these difficult things Clara had to deal with on a daily basis, her timidness grew to be excessive.
Clara s mother regarded her daughter as shy and troublesome as well as difficult to manage this
attitude only reinforced Clara s own sense of being a burden. As she began to grow older, Clara gained
a particular interest in helping others that could not help themselves and directly alleviating sickness
or trouble. Her brother David grew extremely ill and sought to his sister for help. She spent large
amounts of time trying to nurse her brother back to health. Clara refused to leave his side for nearly
two years and acquiescing to his demands that she alone administer his medicine. Despite all of her
relief Clara sensed a

The Importance Of Memory And Short-Term Memory
Roger goes to his friend s wedding where he is introduced to over 50 people. Roger s goal at this
wedding is to meet new people, and remember as many names as he can. In order for him to get their
names into long term memory, he first needs to get them past sensory, and short term memory. For
him to be able to do this, he needs to come up with some strategies to remember these names. He will
learn when it is necessary for him to rehearse the names over in his head, group some of them
together, or making connections to the names. By testing out these strategies, we will learn how
information moves from sensory memory to short term memory, and hopefully to long term memory.
All information makes it to our sensory memory, but it only lasts less than one second. When Roger
got to the wedding, there was probably tons of people in all different outfits, but he will probably
never remember any of it. If he were to meet a woman who he thinks is attractive, her outfit could
enter his short term memory so he can spot her out later during the party. If we pay attention to the
information in our sensory memory, in information is sent on to the second stage, short term memory
(Doyle Portillo Pastorino 271). The memory will last only about 20 30 seconds when it reaches the
short term memory. Because the short term memory can hold about seven plus or minus two items,
Roger could have payed close attention to the color of her eyes and hair too. Maybe when he leaves

Jane starts a conversation with Helen, a student who was flogged without reason. She can t understand
why Helen would bear the pain and not rebel.
Jane s rebellious nature can be seen in this passage. She has a hostility towards violent authority. This
is most likely caused by her time spent at the Reeds where she was constantly treated without respect.
And if I were in your place I should dislike her; I should resist her. If she struck me with that rod, I

It was not, however, so saturnine a pride! She laughed continually; her laugh was satirical, and so was
the habitual expression of her arched and haughty lip. Genius is said to be self conscious. I cannot tell

The Search For Prosperity In Mac s In Dubious Battle
In today s world, it seems everyone is fueled to work only towards the dream of wealth. Without the
promise of payment, people will turn their back on their neighbor without a second thought and
continue on the search for prosperity. In the novel In Dubious Battle, we meet Mac, a hard working
party member doing everything in his power to help struggling laborers make the wage they were
promised before setting out for the California apple orchards. Almost immediately after the strike
begins, Mac comes to the realization that there likely is no chance of the workers winning the strike,
yet he continues to fight for his beliefs. Some may interpret this as selfish for risking the lives of these
workers, however this is undoubtedly false as Mac risks his own life alongside the other strikers. Mac
also has no financial reward for helping with the strike and is spending his time educating the workers
a valuable lesson on how to strike that will help them in the larger strike that Mac sees ominously
approaching. From the moment Mac arrives on the apple orchard, we see that he is not afraid to risk
his own life for the sake of the party. In a conversation with Jim, Mac reveals how the party is larger
than any single member, no matter how important that member may be. Mac goes on to express that
he is willing to give up his own life in the wake of a larger, nation wide strike he foresees coming very
soon. Mac expresses this idea to Jim, saying if I go out now it won t matter. The

The Four Major Approaches Of Sociocultural Evolution
Society refers to people who interact in a defined territory and share culture (Macionis,2012,p.108).
They are four major approaches that display ways in which societies have changed over the past
10,000 years. The first approach was made by Gerhard Lenski who talked about society in relation to
changes concerning technology. Lenski uses the term sociocultural evolution to describe such
changes. Sociocultural evolution is changes that occur as a society gains very new technology
(Macionis,2012,p.88). In the earliest years, societies lived by hunting and gathering. People made
tools to hunt and gather food. Such societies were very petite so it was easy for them to migrate
whenever food was limited. Hunters and gathers spend most of their time hunting and collecting food
for them to satisfy their hunger. They depend on each other to get their duties done. Women were
responsible for vegetation and men went out to hunt. The young children and elderly help out
whenever they could. In most hunting and gathering societies there is a leader who basically takes
control but still has to go out and hunt for food. The basic weapons used by such societies were spears,
bow and arrows and stone knives. These communities were not really prone to much danger the thing
they feared the most was droughts and storms. Gathering and hunting societies began to decrease as
societies became more developed. Along the way, societies developed horticulture, which is the use of
hand tools to

Benefits And Benefits Of Ultrasound Technology Essay
Introduction: The Advantages and Inconveniencies of Ultrasound Technology The delivery of the
portable compact ultrasound technology in India proposes a significant potential health benefit to
millions suffering from painful or potentially life threatening diseases, such as breast cancer,
gallbladder, and pancreas illnesses. Ultrasound is nontoxic, noninvasive and does not use ionizing
radiation. The ultrasound equipment has the potential to increase efficacy and early detection in
diverse medical fields such as anesthesia delivery, cardiac surgery, sports medicine, and emergency
medicine. An ultrasound is uniquely powerful in that it is the only imaging technology that can be
transported to a patient or used where a patient might most urgently need it. The ultrasound can be
utilized on the side of a road after a serious motor accident or in remote communities, as well as,
traveling to reach a health center. When considered this massive scope of medical applications, along
with the universal necessity for imaging equipment among the country and borough population in
India. The evidence shows why India s ultrasound market poses both a significant business and public
health opportunity. An important ethical issue that General Electric Healthcare faced when
implementing its strategies to introduce diagnostic equipment to developing countries was the
problem of female feticide in countries such as China and India. In regards to the developmental delay

Absorbance Values
Abstract:
Claims were made that manufacturers had improperly labeled protein concentrations on their products.
Concentrations of these three different protein containing liquids, whole milk, soy milk, and a protein
solution were determined using a Bradford dye reagent and a spectrophotometer to measure the
absorbance of each. Absorbance of a set of standard known protein concentrations from a range of
0.125 mg/ml to 2.000 mg/ml were measured using the spectrophotometer at a set wavelength and this
data was plotted. The equation generated from the best fit line of this data was used to determine the
unknown concentrations of the three different samples. These values were then compared to the
protein concentrations obtained from the corresponding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would indicate that either the food labels or the calculated data are incorrect. The data was
dependent on a linear relationship between absorbance and protein concentration. However, the linear
relationship was based on only seven data points, two of which were omitted due to inconsistency, and
was only representative up to 2.000 mg/ml protein concentration. Because the data sample was small
and covered a small range of concentrations, the food label concentrations cannot be determined as
inaccurate. The more likely cause would be that the linearity assumption of the correlation between
the absorbance and the protein concentration is

Rawls Justice As Fairness
Rawls Justice as Fairness: John Rawls was dissatisfied with the traditional philosophical approach to
justifying social and political actions therefore he attempted to provide a reasonable theory of social
justice through a contract theory approach. In his work, A Theory of Justice, Rawls bases almost the
entirety of his piece on the question, what kind of organization of society would rational persons
choose if they were in an initial position of independence and equality and setting up a system of
cooperation (A Theory of Justice enotes)? From this seemingly simple question, Rawls goes into
further detail describing what he believes society would and should do when setting up a fair and just
organizational structure. Throughout his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The veil allows for equality and ensures that no advantaged nor disadvantaged individual will be
swayed to decide a certain way on a principle due to their natural and social biases in society. One
example given in Rawls work deals with two men; one man is wealthy while the other man is poor. As
the topic of tax and reform comes up, the wealthy man pleads his case and denounces the tax and
welfare system that was in place solely because he did not want his riches taken from him. On the
other hand, the poor man pleaded his side of the discussion, fully supporting the tax and welfare
system in place, stating that the system is completely just and necessary, therefore causing a split
conclusion on the principle due to differences in characteristic bias. Therefore, to solve this difference,
Rawls created the notion of the veil of ignorance which gives neither the wealthy man nor the poor
man prior knowledge to their financial status (or any other natural/social statuses) allowing the overall
greater equality for society to be exposed. John Rawls then turns to his justice principles, arguing that
the parties in the Original Position would adopt two such principles, which would structure the
theoretical organization. The first and most important principle is the Liberty Principle. The

Shelf life of fruit was significantly enhanced with minimum ripening percentage, higher number of
healthy fruit percentage in Kesar mango having sp. gr. 1.00 (M3) fallowed by sp. gr. 1.00 1.02 (M2).
Wax coating 6 per cent (R3) was effective to increasing the shelf life of fruit, ripening days, healthy
fruit per cent and minimum ripening per cent. Soft rot diseases incidence was does not found in hot
water (R1) and bavistin (R2) treatments. A comparative study on the effect of low temperature storage
of fresh harvested mango stored at 150C (T1) and 200C (T2) was made with respect to physiological
changes. Not only delay the ripening percentage with ripening day, but also increase the healthy fruit
per cent in lower temperature at 150C of storage temperature with 85% RH up to 42nd days of shelf

Comparison Of The Ebola Virus
Essay 1;2014 Comparison of the Ebola outbreak and the CDC study module for Gastroenteritis at a
University in Texas
1) Ebola Virus Belongs to the family Filoviridae. It has a single stranded sRNA genome, so it uses a
RNA polymerase to create the +sRNA template, which acts as mRNA inside the host cell. The
envelope is made up of peptidoglycan; the structure is made up of 7 structural proteins and 1 non
structural protein. This means it is an enveloped and susceptible to the outside environment. The
Ebola virus replicates in Monocytes, Macrophages and Dendritic Cells. When the Ebola virus is ready
to leave the host cell it buds out and takes part of the cell membrane with it. Ebola has an incubation
period of 8 10 days. (CDC) Norovirus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These symptoms are also similar to the symptoms caused by the common cold or the flu. Most people
are not going to be running to the emergency room if they have a slight fever, headache, or nausea.
This can make it difficult to contain these viruses once an initial infection happens in the host. An
infected person may travel to another area unaware that they are carrying one of these diseases. Both
of these viruses do not have a vaccine or real treatment. The best ways to treat these are to let them
pass and allow the immune system to fight the virus off. Norovirus is not as serious as the Ebola and
most of the persons infected can fight it off in a few days. Getting rest and keeping the body healthy.
The Ebola is more serious, the fatality rate according to WHO is 50%. The best way to handle this is
to isolate the person and give them IVs and hope their immune system is strong enough to fight off the
virus. If they can fight off the virus they will recover, but if not then the virus kills the host. Since
Ebola has no cure this plays to the advantage of controlling the virus. When someone has contracted
the virus action is taken very quickly to isolate and quarantine. The source of the virus is put as top
priority to stop the spread. Because it is so serious controlling it when it arises is the number one
objective. The Norovirus is foodborne virus. So tracking the source and removing it in

Wu Cheng s The Journey To The West
Chapter one of Wu Cheng en s classical story, The Journey to the West, introduces the main character,
Monkey, by providing background information about his origin and early life. Monkey lived equally
along with gibbons and baboons who he considered his kin until he was appointed to king of the
Blessed Land of Flower Fruit Mountain. This transition from an unstructured, free will society to an
orderly kingdom portrays the social changes humans experienced when dynasties arose in civilization.
After Monkey gained the title of king, certain changes occurred. Immediately after he claimed the
position, his peers lined up according to rank and age , praising Monkey by chanting, long live our
great king (Cheng en, 177). The recently equal group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to Monkey becoming king, a poem in the beginning of the chapter claims they played two games
or three with pebbles and with pellets; they circled sandy pits, they built rare pagodas, they chased
dragonflies.... which are activities that allowed the population to live in a carefree, playful
environment (Cheng en, 174). After Monkey became king, their activities depended on the season,
which another poem portrays; In the spring they gathered flowers for food and drink. In the summer
they went in quest of fruits for sustenance. In the autumn they amassed taros and chestnuts to ward off
time. In the winter they searched for yellow sperms to live out the year (Cheng en, 178). The newly
civilized, ruled monkeys no longer roamed aimlessly playing with one another, but had jobs that
would ensure their survival. This societal change is also reflected in the late Ming dynasties idea of
radical individualism. In this time, the text argues that personal freedom had been celebrated at the
expense of social responsibility (World Literature, 169). The monkeys now had responsibilities to
attend to, likely with the king s instruction, when before they were liable for little

Stormbreaker Analysis
Have you ever had a time where you had to think fast and use what was around you to prevent
something bad from happening? When I was 13 my cousins were riding their bikes down a steep hill
with a jump at the end and a lake about 30 feet after that. The more I watched them the more I wanted
to ride my bike down the hill too, so I grabbed my bike and when they all went inside to watch tv I
snuck out and got ready to go down the hill. When I was finally ready to go down I pushed off and
pedalled as fast as I could, but when I jumped the ramp I realized that I did not have brakes on my
bike so I had to do something to try and stop before I got drenched. So I swerved to the side and

One example of how Alex is resourceful is when he was trapped in a giant aquarium with a dangerous
jellyfish inside. In order to survive he had to use what he had with him. According to the story ¨Alex
held the tube against the metal corners at the front of the tank and did his best to squeeze a long line of
cream all the way down the length of the metal¨ (Horowitz 162) This shows Alex s resourcefulness
because when it didn t look like he was going to survive because he was close to drowning and getting
stung by a poisonous jellyfish he escaped by using a special cream he had to melt through the metal
support beams on the tank which made the tank break open. Another example of how Alex was
resourceful is when he used the karate move that he had learned when he was younger to take down an
armed guard. One example from the text is where it states ¨At that moment Alex struck. It was another
classic karate blow this time twisting his body around and driving his elbow into the side of the mans
head just below the ear. The guard didn t even cry out¨ (Horowitz 140). This shows that Alex is
resourceful because if he wouldn t have knocked to guard out with his special move he most likely
would have either gotten shot by the guard or tortured for spying on the company to find out what they
were doing that they where trying to hide. Through Alex knocking out the guard and Alex breaking
out of the tank he manages to escape these two life or death

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Piezoelectric
Piezoelectric Materials
The term Piezoelectric is made up of two words Piezo and electric . Piezo is a Greek word which
means Pressure thus Piezoelectric means electricity produced by Pressure. Pierre Curie and Jacques in
1880 experimented on many crystals such as tourmaline, quartz, topaz, cane sugar and Rochelle salt
which shows this phenomenon. These crystals produced electricity (small amount) on small
deformation of their body. Later in 1881, it was observed that these crystals can show reverse
phenomena also i.e. these crystals deform when they are kept in an environment having electric field.
Mechanism: To produce electricity a material should be net polarized. Positive and negative charges
should be separated and they should give ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bulk Polymer 2.Composite polymer 3.Void Charged Polymer
Bulk Polymer: This kind of polymer shows piezoelectric effect because of their molecular structure.
Two kinds of polymer which shows this effect are amorphous and semi crystalline polymers. PVDF
(Polyvinylidene Fluoride) is one of the best examples of semi crystalline polymer used in various
materials. A semi crystalline polymer can be viewed as in an amorphous region small locations of
randomly oriented microscopic crystals are present and poling is a process which is required to
reorient these crystals so that dipole is present.
Composite Polymer: They are more or less similar to inorganic piezoelectric materials. Randomly or
arranged rods present in a bulk film of polymer are known to be composites. They are having both
advantage i.e. mechanical flexibility of polymers as well as high dielectric constant. These materials
are generally used in acoustic devices because its acoustic impedance is low.
Void Charged Polymer: As the name suggests it is a type of polymer where polymer surface is
surrounded by internal gas voids. When the surface gets charged, couples electrical and mechanical
energy gives a high piezoelectric coefficient which is far greater than piezoelectric

The OECD has already analyzed the issue of bargain shopping in various settings:

Examples Of Emotion In Night By Elie Wiesel
Faded Emotions While conscious of cruelty all around, fifteen year old Eliezer Wiesel changes from
an innocent boy to a brutal being. In the novel Night by Eliezer Wiesel, Wiesel recalls his tragic
experiences as a Jew during the Holocaust. Eliezer enters the camp as an innocent boy, strong in his
faith but develops into someone he does not even recognize. Young Eliezer becomes cruel, detached,
and emotionless through his experiences in concentration camps. Eliezer falls into cruelty when he
allows his father to be beaten. I had watched the whole scene without moving. I kept quiet. In fact I
was thinking of how to get farther away so that I would not be hit myself. What is more, any anger I
felt at that moment was directed, not against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He especially turns emotionless towards his dying father. The officer came up to him and shouted at
him to be quiet. But my father did not hear him. He went on calling me. The officer dealt him a violent
blow on the head with his truncheon. I did not move. I was afraid. My body was afraid of also
receiving a blow (Wiesel 81). Eliezer s father is on his death bed and calls Eliezer to help him. Instead
of heeding to his father s desperate cry, Eliezer chooses to ignore him. In fact, he allows the soldiers to
harm his father even further. This is a prime example of how Eliezer has become emotionless because
if he cared in the slightest way, he would have come to his father s rescue. After his father actually
dies while calling Eliezer s name, Eliezer s emotions completely dissipate. I did not weep. But I had
no more tears! And, in the depths of my being, on the recesses of my weakened conscience, could I
have searched it, I might perhaps have found something like free at last! (Wiesel 81). Eliezer cannot
even dig into the depths of his now brutal being to find tears to cry for his father. He is actually
relieved that his father is deceased because he now views himself as free. This point is actually ironic
because Eliezer previously prayed that he would never abandon his father, but he ends up doing
exactly that. Therefore, it is evident that Eliezer s emotions have vanished as he distances himself

Emile Durkheim Social Fact Essay
Stated in The Rules of Sociological Method Durkheim defines social fact to concepts and
expectations that come from society, not the individual. Many examples prove that social fact
only exists where social organization is present, such as the legal system, as well as the education
system. Durkheim states that social organization is not needed in social fact, and that social fact
is all those issues that society pushes to be acted orderly.
The legal system is a prime example of social fact. The legal system is a strict set of laws and
regulations that must be followed by each individual. It is to society s interest that these
regulations be followed. When someone makes the decision to take someone else s life, there is a
process that is taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The offender planned out this murder, therefore it points him to a path of legal
stages that come to no surprise to him or society. If a driver is pulling out of her driveway, and
kills someone because she wasn t aware of her blind spot, she then would go through an entirely
different process. Factors taken into consideration would be that she was sober, there was no
intent to harm, and physically could not see the victim. She then would be taken through steps of
the legal system as well. When reading those examples, it is no shock to society what is going to
happen to each of these offenders. The reason for this is because rules and regulations of the law
are at interest of society. When these laws are broken, there is an orderly system to deal with
each and every offense, therefore making the legal system a social fact.
Religion is another example of social fact. Christians baptize babies very quickly after birth,
church is attended on Sundays, and there is a priest present every day at church. In Islamic
religions, prayers are to be done everyone morning before sunrise, until sunrise, with no issue to
be an excuse for distraction. All though the example of religion is not at systematic

actually have any solid evidence behind it. I figured that there could never be evidence solid enough to

Dystopian Differences In The Hunger Games And The Hunger...
Dystopian films and books have become popular over the past few years. These tend to reflect the way
in which society could possibly soon turn if expecting extremes. Dystopian literature and media also
tend to have utopian elements as well. While the societies in these works are strict and controlling,
they do offer something that our society could possibly benefit from. Divergent has this element. The
population is broken up into five factions that represent the different types of people in society and
separate those who would fight easily due to their personal morals. The Hunger Games on the other
hand (when modern society crumbled) they punished their citizens for fighting the government. While
yes there was a chance for riches in the Hunger Games, it took risking your life to get it. In addition, if
one did win the Hunger Games they would have an extremely easy life due to riches and a free luxury
house. Divergent does not have this part, as its utopian aspect is the fact different ideals are separated
from each other. Utopian literature is a reflection that is a perceived direction society may go. In these
stories, mirrors are a device used to symbolically state the universe of the film is a reflection not a
reality. The Hunger Games series is based of the book trilogy of the same name. In this series, the
Hunger Games are a pageant based on a punishment for a rebellion that occurred approximately 100
years before. In this pageant, two tributes are chosen per district

Fight Club Consumerism Analysis
David Fincher s Fight Club is praised by fans and critics alike as one of the most impactful
representation of society in film. The film follows Jack, the narrator and main character, as he teams
up with a newfound acquaintance named Tyler Durden to form an underground fight club for men
who are bored of their mundane lives(Fincher 1999). As Durden becomes more of a dominant
personality, Fight Club evolves to Project Mayhem, multi celled secret society of oppressed gray
collar workers whose purpose is to battle the modern culture of consumerism(Fincher 1999). The
movie is often discussed by people due to its representation of the modern man and consumeristic

Symbolism In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums
John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums is a great short story filled with symbols. Symbolism is the art
or practice of using symbols especially by investing things with a symbolic meaning or by expressing
the invisible or intangible by means of visible or sensuous representations: such as an artistic imitation
or invention that is a method of revealing or suggesting immaterial, ideal, or otherwise intangible truth
or states (Symbolism, n.d.). Steinbeck used symbolism throughout this work to create emotions and
meanings. The Chrysanthemums takes place in Salina s Valley during the winter month of December
1938. This story is focused on the relationship between Elisa Allen and her husband, Henry Allen. As
the story opens, Elisa is on her husband s ranch pridefully cutting down chrysanthemums in the
garden. Her husband comes to praise her on how well she works with the flowers as she congratulates
him on selling thirty head of three year old steers (pg. 359). Henry then asks her to head into town for

Critical Analysis (1st level)
Weaknesses 1 (2nd level)
The first weakness that is found is in some cases the author overgeneralized people and findings. With
that being said, this is a flaw because the author is generalizing all the children and parents during
almost the whole entire article. This may pose a problem for the reader because the readers may be
thinking, Well, that s not the case in my life or I never did that as a child. The author needs to
recognize that not all children and parents is that the studies and experiences don t apply to everyone.
The paper needs to acknowledge that most children are like this not all, then give specifics of who,
where, and when. For example, she overgeneralizes in the beginning of the research article by starting
off that asking a question on where children are and what they are doing. She gives examples that they
are in day care centers, playing Play Station, watching TV, and that they re not enjoying a casual
conversation. She says that parenting for us is providing them with things like those earlier examples
stated to keep them busy (Pierce, 2002, p. 39). She uses the words us and children. Not some, children

  • 2. Preventing A Life Of Regret Preventing a Life of Regret The ruckus of the crowd pierced the fallen players ears in the form of a serrated knife. Feeling the blood pulsing through his head caused him to clench his eyes shut in agony and grab at his hair, hoping to block out the unbearable waves of pain. The blurry forms of his coach and teammates surrounded his vision and as much as he wanted to get up and tell them that he was fine, he knew that there was no way that he would be able to recover from this injury easily. He had known that something was wrong with him, but he had pushed these thoughts out of his mind, knowing that he could not disappoint his fellow teammates. They had helped him in too many ways and ignoring the clear symptoms of a concussion seemed like the best way to repay them. Now, he knew he was wrong, but it was too late. He was going to pay for his decision, either now, or farther on down the line. A concussion is something that is caused by a hit or blow to the head and is a risk that all people who play sports have to face, especially people who choose to play football, a sport that requires courage, strength, and stamina. It is also a sport where choosing to stay in a game, when a player is clearly injured with a concussion, can determine how the player may live the rest of his life. • 3. Bioluminescent Life Forms Essay Being able to see in the dark often does not come easy. We humans on the other hand are left fumbling for candles when the power is out for any length of time. But there are some life forms that have a completely different approach bioluminescent life forms. Bioluminescence life forms make their own light and carry it around in their bodies. This paper will address bioluminescence and try to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In luminescent animals, chemical compounds mix together to produce a glow. Several earthworm species create a luminescent secretion that does not have an obvious purpose. Unlike incandescence, it neither requires nor generates much heat. The reason for some mushrooms glow is also unclear, although some scientist believe it attracts insects that spread the mushrooms spores. With the expanding technology and recent discoveries, more questions about bioluminescence are answered daily but the history of bioluminescence dates back thousands of years. Scientists had a basic idea of the difference between incandescence and luminescence as far back as 2500 years ago. One of the earliest written accounts of bioluminescence dates back to Aristotle, and in the first century Gaius Plinius Secundus, a roman statesman, naturalist, and writer who began to document some of the glowing creatures near his home. There he had access to the Bay of Naples, a body of water known to many bioluminescent creatures. He identified many of the glowing animals, including the Plumo Marinus, recognized today as the Purple Jellyfish, and he also remarked on the luminescent clam, Pholas dactylus. He was also the first recorded human use of bioluminescence, describing how he used a walking stick rubbed against a jellyfish s slime to light up his trail. During the next 1,300 years, research of bioluminescent organisms was rare because such suspicious creatures were often considered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Learning is a key for every child to understand what is going on around them and how should they react to that stimuli. It involves the use of cognitive skills to interpret those signals and analyse them accordingly. Defecation or lesion in cognitive sites may cause mental retardation or learning problems to them, thus, their mental maturity may be lag behind their current age. Normal matter even though it sounds like it makes up almost the entire universe surprisingly it accounts for the smallest portion of the universe, which is somewhere between 1% and 5%. Since there is more unknown than known of Dark Energy it is difficult to know exactly ho much of the universe is Dark Energy. Henceforth scientist have theorized that roughly 68% of the Universe is Dark Energy. And scientist at NASA have concluded that Dark Matter makes up about 27% of the Universe. What is Dark Energy? • 6. The Tactics Of Combat Civil Wars And Instill Peace The three main tactics used to combat civil wars and instill peace in an area are peacekeeping, peace enforcement, and counterinsurgency. The first tactic I will address is peacekeeping. Once the two parties of a conflict have agreed to a truce, peacekeepers will come in to guarantee the implementation of the truce and try to maintain peace. The duty of peacekeepers is not only [to] monitoring troops, but also with human rights monitoring, protecting and delivering humanitarian aid, demobilizing and retraining troops, reforming police forces, protecting civilians, reforming legal systems, assisting in economic reconstruction, and sometimes administering the entire state until a new government can take over. In other words, after civil wars, peacekeepers are often charged not only with military monitoring duties, but with reforming the essential institutions of the state (Peacekeeping, Peace Enforcement, and UN Reform Lise Morjé Howard, P 1 2). There are three ways that peacekeepers are able to use their power in order to succeed. These three ways include coercion, inducement, and persuasion. Coercion involves a display of power, like swagger, to wield off attacks. Troops use swagger in several scenarios. One of the most common times the use of swagger will occur is during policing, where troops will patrol the area. Since one of the main doctrines of peacekeeping involves not using force, this type of coercion has been deemed useful. Even though the majority of the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Discuss The Differences Between The Chesapeake And New... Starting in the 1600 s, the English began immigrating to the New World. While the settlers from both the Chesapeake and New England colonies were originally exposed to the same religion within the Anglican Church, as well as primarily the same intention within the government system, the colonies differed in how they would manage their societies once they were settled in the New World. The Northern New England areas economy was built upon rocks. Their soil was very rocky, farming was much harder than in chesapeake. The people who settled in this colony were families not single white men who were to be indentured slaves. These factors created the New England colonies. As far as the social aspect of the two colonies, there were significant differences in how the colonies were populated. New England came over with big families which they would use to begin small communities. The relationships that were already built between these settlers would go to benefit them and provide the means to creating the society in an organized and well thought out manner. When you are able to develop and rely on ones you trust making a wholesome community becomes easier, the supplies, the labor needed to be done and issues that need to be dealt with come at a faster pass with a trusted group of people (doc 1). The Ships List of Emigrants Bound for New England, 1635, lists families who boarded the ships, giving the relation and age of each member (doc 2). Within these communities they ... • 8. Symbolism Of Society In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies William Golding s modern classic, Lord of the Flies showcases a group of boys stranded on an island, in hopes of rescue and survival. This depicts how a society of boys would function if civilization had not been forced on them. Moreover, this novel shows us Golding s inner kept judgement of the function of society. The boys first meet together on the island by using what later becomes a symbol of law; the conch. It is first used as an object to keep order amongst the boys, but later becomes the center of conflict between two clashing tribes. It represents the battle between order and chaos, and the outcome is Golding s view of which rules in society. A constant occurrence in the book is the bullying of the characters, Simon and Piggy. Although these characters contributed greatly to the development of the group, their actions were never appreciated. They were both outcasts in the tribe, never listened to, nor included in any conversations. Golding represents these characters as religion and intelligence, and so the outcast of these boys gives us a window into which parts of society the author deems are valuable and unnecessary. Jack, the antagonist in the book is portrayed as a vile, aggressive creature. He and his hunters become obsessed with bloodshed and macabre, and so they kill to satisfy their needs. What starts as killing pigs for meat as a means of survival, soon turns into an addiction for blood leading to a bloodbath between the boys. The constant hunger for ... Roger s goal at this wedding is to meet new people, and remember as many names as he can. In order for him to get their names into long term memory, he first needs to get them past sensory, and short term memory. For him to be able to do this, he needs to come up with some strategies to remember these names. He will learn when it is necessary for him to rehearse the names over in his head, group some of them together, or making connections to the names. By testing out these strategies, we will learn how information moves from sensory memory to short term memory, and hopefully to long term memory. All information makes it to our sensory memory, but it only lasts less than one second. When Roger got to the wedding, there was probably tons of people in all different outfits, but he will probably never remember any of it. If he were to meet a woman who he thinks is attractive, her outfit could enter his short term memory so he can spot her out later during the party. If we pay attention to the information in our sensory memory, in information is sent on to the second stage, short term memory (Doyle Portillo Pastorino 271). The memory will last only about 20 30 seconds when it reaches the short term memory. Almost immediately after the strike begins, Mac comes to the realization that there likely is no chance of the workers winning the strike, yet he continues to fight for his beliefs. Some may interpret this as selfish for risking the lives of these workers, however this is undoubtedly false as Mac risks his own life alongside the other strikers. Mac also has no financial reward for helping with the strike and is spending his time educating the workers a valuable lesson on how to strike that will help them in the larger strike that Mac sees ominously approaching. • 17. The Four Major Approaches Of Sociocultural Evolution Society refers to people who interact in a defined territory and share culture (Macionis,2012,p.108). They are four major approaches that display ways in which societies have changed over the past 10,000 years. The first approach was made by Gerhard Lenski who talked about society in relation to changes concerning technology. Lenski uses the term sociocultural evolution to describe such changes. Sociocultural evolution is changes that occur as a society gains very new technology (Macionis,2012,p.88). In the earliest years, societies lived by hunting and gathering. People made tools to hunt and gather food. Such societies were very petite so it was easy for them to migrate whenever food was limited. Hunters and gathers spend most of their time hunting and collecting food for them to satisfy their hunger. They depend on each other to get their duties done. Women were responsible for vegetation and men went out to hunt. The young children and elderly help out whenever they could. In most hunting and gathering societies there is a leader who basically takes control but still has to go out and hunt for food. The basic weapons used by such societies were spears, bow and arrows and stone knives. These communities were not really prone to much danger the thing they feared the most was droughts and storms. Gathering and hunting societies began to decrease as societies became more developed. Along the way, societies developed horticulture, which is the use of hand tools to ... Ultrasound is nontoxic, noninvasive and does not use ionizing radiation. The ultrasound equipment has the potential to increase efficacy and early detection in diverse medical fields such as anesthesia delivery, cardiac surgery, sports medicine, and emergency medicine. An ultrasound is uniquely powerful in that it is the only imaging technology that can be transported to a patient or used where a patient might most urgently need it. The ultrasound can be utilized on the side of a road after a serious motor accident or in remote communities, as well as, traveling to reach a health center. When considered this massive scope of medical applications, along with the universal necessity for imaging equipment among the country and borough population in India. The evidence shows why India s ultrasound market poses both a significant business and public health opportunity. As the topic of tax and reform comes up, the wealthy man pleads his case and denounces the tax and welfare system that was in place solely because he did not want his riches taken from him. On the other hand, the poor man pleaded his side of the discussion, fully supporting the tax and welfare system in place, stating that the system is completely just and necessary, therefore causing a split conclusion on the principle due to differences in characteristic bias. Therefore, to solve this difference, Rawls created the notion of the veil of ignorance which gives neither the wealthy man nor the poor man prior knowledge to their financial status (or any other natural/social statuses) allowing the overall greater equality for society to be exposed. A semi crystalline polymer can be viewed as in an amorphous region small locations of randomly oriented microscopic crystals are present and poling is a process which is required to reorient these crystals so that dipole is present. Composite Polymer: They are more or less similar to inorganic piezoelectric materials. Randomly or arranged rods present in a bulk film of polymer are known to be composites. • 28. Examples Of Emotion In Night By Elie Wiesel Faded Emotions While conscious of cruelty all around, fifteen year old Eliezer Wiesel changes from an innocent boy to a brutal being. In the novel Night by Eliezer Wiesel, Wiesel recalls his tragic experiences as a Jew during the Holocaust. Eliezer enters the camp as an innocent boy, strong in his faith but develops into someone he does not even recognize. Young Eliezer becomes cruel, detached, and emotionless through his experiences in concentration camps. Eliezer falls into cruelty when he allows his father to be beaten. I was afraid. My body was afraid of also receiving a blow (Wiesel 81). Eliezer s father is on his death bed and calls Eliezer to help him. Instead of heeding to his father s desperate cry, Eliezer chooses to ignore him. In fact, he allows the soldiers to harm his father even further. This is a prime example of how Eliezer has become emotionless because if he cared in the slightest way, he would have come to his father s rescue. After his father actually dies while calling Eliezer s name, Eliezer s emotions completely dissipate. I did not weep. But I had no more tears! And, in the depths of my being, on the recesses of my weakened conscience, could I have searched it, I might perhaps have found something like free at last! (Wiesel 81). Eliezer cannot even dig into the depths of his now brutal being to find tears to cry for his father. He is actually relieved that his father is deceased because he now views himself as free. This point is actually ironic because Eliezer previously prayed that he would never abandon his father, but he ends up doing exactly that. • 29. Emile Durkheim Social Fact Essay Stated in The Rules of Sociological Method Durkheim defines social fact to concepts and expectations that come from society, not the individual. Many examples prove that social fact only exists where social organization is present, such as the legal system, as well as the education system. Durkheim states that social organization is not needed in social fact, and that social fact is all those issues that society pushes to be acted orderly. The legal system is a prime example of social fact. The legal system is a strict set of laws and regulations that must be followed by each individual. When reading those examples, it is no shock to society what is going to happen to each of these offenders. The reason for this is because rules and regulations of the law are at interest of society. When these laws are broken, there is an orderly system to deal with each and every offense, therefore making the legal system a social fact. Religion is another example of social fact. • 35. Dystopian Differences In The Hunger Games And The Hunger... Dystopian films and books have become popular over the past few years. These tend to reflect the way in which society could possibly soon turn if expecting extremes. Dystopian literature and media also tend to have utopian elements as well. While the societies in these works are strict and controlling, they do offer something that our society could possibly benefit from. Divergent has this element. The population is broken up into five factions that represent the different types of people in society and separate those who would fight easily due to their personal morals. The Hunger Games on the other hand (when modern society crumbled) they punished their citizens for fighting the government. While yes there was a chance for riches in the Hunger Games, it took risking your life to get it. In addition, if one did win the Hunger Games they would have an extremely easy life due to riches and a free luxury house. Divergent does not have this part, as its utopian aspect is the fact different ideals are separated from each other. Utopian literature is a reflection that is a perceived direction society may go. In these stories, mirrors are a device used to symbolically state the universe of the film is a reflection not a reality. The Hunger Games series is based of the book trilogy of the same name. Symbolism is the art or practice of using symbols especially by investing things with a symbolic meaning or by expressing the invisible or intangible by means of visible or sensuous representations: such as an artistic imitation or invention that is a method of revealing or suggesting immaterial, ideal, or otherwise intangible truth or states (Symbolism, n.d.). Steinbeck used symbolism throughout this work to create emotions and meanings. The Chrysanthemums takes place in Salina s Valley during the winter month of December 1938. This story is focused on the relationship between Elisa Allen and her husband, Henry Allen. As the story opens, Elisa is on her husband s ranch pridefully cutting down chrysanthemums in the garden.
