Blockbuster Failures
From 1985 until the early 2000 s, Blockbuster Video was the movie and video game rental
powerhouse that lead the market in nearly every state in America. The company became the top in its
market almost overnight. In 2004, the company s peak period, they had roughly 60,000 employees
working at more than 9,000 stores nationwide. The first Blockbuster opened in October of 1985 by
founder David Cook. Within a short few years, Cook grew the business incredibly and brought it
public on New York Stock Exchange. Before long, Blockbuster stores were popping up in
neighborhoods across the country (Hyatt, 2003). Blockbuster thrived until competition from other
companies offering more convenient means of movie and video game rental began taking over ...

First, in 1999, Blockbuster had a $5 billion IPO, and when Netflix began bursting at the seams, they
had the opportunity to buy Netflix out. Instead, they practically laughed at the then small but growing
company (Siegler, 2011). Another failure for Blockbuster came in the way of management. As the
store essentially became a convenience store of sorts with the implementation of candy and throw
away toys, the digital technology did not help to prompt people to come in for visits, except for the
few hit releases that came a few times each year (Baskin, 2013). Instead, Blockbuster should have had
associates become recommenders and catalog persuading de factos. Another fatal mistake was the
procrastination that Blockbuster deployed in getting into the online DVD rental business. By the time
they decided to get into the online racket in 2004, Netflix was already powerhousing the market and
Redbox had recently launched. Blockbuster was dead in the water, and their utmost tragic mistake was
in the arrogance Blockbuster officials displayed in underestimating the newly founded competition.
They had a six year span to take on the changing market and counter their competition, but decided
instead to sit around and let their company slowly

Revenge in Hamlet and The Revenger s Tragedy Essay
In this study of revenge and revengers in two Elizabethan revenge tragedies the two plays I shall look
at are Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, and The Revenger s Tragedy, by Thomas Middleton. I shall
look first at the playwrights handling of the characters of the revengers, and then at the treatment of
the revengers by other characters in the plays.
Although having similarities in their underlying themes, and in their adherence to conventions, these
two plays present contrasting pictures of the figure of the revenger; Hamlet offering a far more
complex treatment of its main character, and The Revenger s Tragedy appearing, in comparison,
limited by the author s social message, and lacking in realistic characterisation.
Hamlet and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both revengers respond to, rather than initiate events, but Hamlet is much more an instrument of
others than Vindice, who is full of zest. Both characters carry a burden of guilt. Hamlet s Oedipus
complex, (Freud having informed us of the revenger s unconscious motives), is heavily aggravated by
the absence of his father and excessive closeness of his mother, and this accounts for the refocusing of
his patricidal wish onto Claudius, and shows how his need for revenge is internal, not purely a need to
resolve dissatisfaction with the affairs of the world , as is Vindice s. Hamlet s needs are deep and
complex, while for Vindice:
The smallest advantage fattens wronged men. [1.2.98]
Hamlet s internalisations arise because he has identified his ego with his father the lost object and is
therefore suffering from a loss of ego. His inward suffering is further intensified by his conflicts with
Ophelia and Gertrude, leading him to suicidal thoughts:
O that this too too sullied flesh would melt,
Thaw, and resolve itself into a dew!
Or that the Everlasting had not flx d
His canon gainst self slaughter! [1.2.129 132]
Hamlet is searching deep into his soul for explanations and resolutions, while Vindice simply waits for
that bald Madam Opportunity . [1.1.55]
Hamlet s delaying, compared to Vindice s incessant activity, shows that the two revengers are in a way
opposite in their approaches to the

Frank Wall Street Reform And Consumer Protection Act
The Dodd Frank Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act became Federal Law on July
21, 2010, instituting major financial regulatory reforms designed to improve the financial stability of
the United States. It is a legislative response to the financial system trauma resulting from the Great
Recession and a further regulation of the Financial Institution activities that led in part to the Great
Recession. The Act, which was named after two key lawmakers involved in the congressional passing
of the law, Congressman Barney Frank, House of Representatives Financial Services Committee
Chairman, and Senator Chris Todd, former Senate Banking Committee Chairman, affects nearly all
aspects of the oversight and supervision of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relative successes and failures of that Act are becoming more apparent with time, and the
shortcomings are subject to intense partisan criticism. As discussed below, Dodd Frank seeks to
address the highly sensitive and controversial notion that Wall Street banks have been designated by
the Federal Reserve as too big to fail. In fact, during the most severe moments of the crisis, the voices
of free market proponents could be heard advocating that these troubled big banks, suffering massive
losses due to their own bad bets, and if weakened to the point of failure, should be allowed to fail.
Hindsight shows that allowing just one to fail, Lehman Brothers, had serious and lasting detrimental
effect on the US and global financial system and markets. Had Lehman been saved, it would have
been the most effective agent to unwind all of the transactions and trades to which it was a party, and
likely in a rapid manner. However, being thrust into bankruptcy, and thereafter receivers were
appointed to unwind the business, took months upon months and vast resources to settle Lehman
accounts. Had Citibank, Bank of America, Bear Stearns, or AIG been allowed to fail, it may have been
possible that the US financial system would have melted down completely. So these super banks, and
non banks, cannot be allowed to fail in crisis, due to the system wide risk. Notwithstanding, such an
implicit assurance, that they will always get a bailout, no matter how toxic

Treating Long-term Elderly Patents with Pressure Ulcers
Serial Sharp Debridement and Formulated Collagen Gel to Treat Pressure Ulcers in Elderly Long term
Care Patients: A Case Study
Patients at Long Term Care Facilities are generally debilitated and elderly people who have
incontinence problems. Incontinence makes treating pressure ulcers very difficult because it alters
tissue tolerance and reapplying products becomes very costly. Usually negative pressure wound
therapy (NPWT) is used to treat pressure ulcers but it is also very costly and does not match with
some wound locations. Collagen plays a vital role in the wound healing process by creating a
framework for the adhesion, movement, and production of new cells. This study determined the
effects and uses of Type 1 formulated collagen on granulation tissue formation and
reepithreelialization in chronic pressure ulcers.
Eligible participants for the application of Type 1 formulated collagen gel must 1) have an open
pressure ulcer at least 2.0 cm in diameter that did not heal after using NPWT and 2) have no
symptoms of and wound or bone infection. The three patients in the study had a wound of at least 18
months and had showed no signs of improvement during 4 weeks of NPWT. The patients received the
standard care including the treatment of moist wound healing and debridement, prevention of
additional skin breakdown, and maintenance of functional abilities. Before beginning the use of
collagen gel, sharp debridement was performed with additional sharp debridement performed at

May 15, 2012
La Purisima A.) The mission chapel is beautiful. The beauty of this chapel can compare to the Santa
Barbara one. They both are bright in color. When in the chapels I get a warm feeling. Old artwork.
Kind of built like an ancient style building. Candles light up the room. B.) The natives daily duties
consisted of mixing mud with straws to make adobe bricks to build. The Spanish soldiers lived a more
foreign like lifestyle because the mission and their teachings were rather new to the natives. Some
natives were blacksmiths and would build and repair the tools of Spanish society. Gradually, Chumash

The Natives did not know how to use fire arms or agricultural tools. The natives were accomplished
traders that had a monetary system based on beads and seashells. Traded herbs, baskets, tools and

Natives lived a hunter gatherer to an agricultural based one under the tutelage of the Spanish system.
Natives also created currency from seashells that have been found up and down the coast of
California. C.) Earthquakes had affected La Purisima in a major way. So major, the natives had to
relocate the original site from just outside of Lompoc, Ca. The natives refused to return to the original
site, so the missions father decided to relocate to an area called La Canada de los Berros, a little
further from Lompoc, about four miles north. The fathers rebuilt the Mission but decided to put the
buildings in a straight line instead of the normal square shape since it would be more difficult for the
buildings to damage each other if they fell during another earthquake. La Purisima is the only Mission
not to follow the quadrangle shape of the rest of the Missions. La Canada de los Berros means The
Canyon of the water cress , this new site had several advantages: a better water supply, a better

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi And The Congress Of Gandhi
On October 2, 1869, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born into a religious Hindu family. His
father, Karamchand Gandhi, already had previous sons and daughters from his four other wives, with
Gandhi marking his last son. As a child, Gandhi showed great interests towards family devotion and
sacrifices. He would often slip away from his overly crowded house and into shops on the street.
Because of Hindu law, Gandhi was wed to Kasturbai Makanji at age 13 14.
Eventually, as Gandhi became older and more mature, he started showing passion towards his studies.
He was offered a one year contract for working in a South African Indian law firm. On his way to
Pretoria, a white man objected to the fact that Gandhi was traveling first class. Gandhi refused to
move, claiming he had a first class ticket. He was quickly thrown off the train and was forced to spend
a night on the station platform. After a successful and fulfilling year as a lawyer, Gandhi s trip to
South Africa was almost at an end. At his farewell party, Gandhi spotted a column in the newspaper
stating that the government in Natal was preparing to seize Indian s right to vote. Disheartened by
India s current condition, Gandhi decided to stay longer and gather signatures for a petition against the
discriminatory actions. Within two weeks, the pacifist collected ten thousand signatures and founded
the Indian Congress of Natal. Believing that written words would make a bigger impact, Gandhi
published two pamphlets that spoke out against the new government movement. Without delay,
Gandhi promptly returned to India to fetch his family. In 1906, Gandhi attempted a mass nonviolent
civil disobedience campaign to counteract the South African Transvaal governments new restrictions
and regulations. He dubbed it Satyagraha, meaning firmness in truth , but his attempts failed and he
was promptly arrested. His actions, however, left a lasting impact, leading to multiple rebellions and
protest. In 1913, Gandhi made a negotiated a compromise with General Jan Christian Smuts, which
ended poll taxes for Indians and recognized non Christian marriages. Later on in his life, Gandhi
supervised many other nonviolent acts of rebellions, such as mass marches and boycotts.

Bradley, K. (2012). Juvenile delinquency and the public sphere: exploring local and national discourse
in England, c . 1940 69. Social History, 37(1), pp.19 35.
This article explores juvenile delinquency and the public sphere by looking at local and national
discourse in England from the 1940 to 1969. Bradley, in discussing juvenile delinquency and the
public sphere argues that the fears of juvenile delinquency should be treated as a historical
phenomenon. The article touches upon Pearson s book, with Bradley arguing that anxieties about the
behaviour of the poorest young have a powerful presence in the British public sphere, and goes on

exploring this, Goldson draws upon the work of other authors on female violence (Susan A. Batchelor;
Tara Young), the history of youth (Geoffrey Pearson), youth gangs and late Victorian society (Andrew

The Discovery Of The New World Essay
By definition, a revolution is the overthrow of a suppressive government in favor of a new
government, but it is also defined as a large change in society, or how it works. After the discovery of
the New World by Christopher Columbus, European Nations competed in a race against one another
to claim pieces of the new land. Before Columbus found this land, the sea separating the New World
from Europe seemed endless. The Europeans were only interested in the land to the East. But with the
New World there was so much to explore. The Europeans tossed aside their old toy to go play with a
new one. During this time period of conquest throughout the New World it became known as the Age
of Exploration. A New World meant more land, which meant places to build homes and plant crops,
and more money to be earned by buying out new houses and selling new crops grown in foreign soil.
These times of change are known as the American Revolution. At the time Spain claimed Mexico, and
the Southwest portions of what would be known as America. France had their hands on most of
present day Canada, as well as Louisiana. The Dutch set foot on land they called New Amsterdam,
however, The English, who had settled their first colony in Jamestown, Virginia, drove the Dutch out
and claimed New Amsterdam for themselves, later renaming it New York. The English claimed more
land as time passed, and eventually they had formed 13 different colonies in the Eastern part of
America. The English Colonies were

Taliban Downfall
Afghanistan is one of the poorest and most troubled countries in the world today (Goodson 4). Over
many years there have been many different leaders and tribes ruling Afghanistan. The most recent
regime was the Taliban. According to The 9/11 Encyclopedia, Taliban means students in Arabic and it
was founded in 1994 by Mohammed Mullah Omar. Omar had his own way of interpreting the Quran
and that led to many religious restrictions on the Afghan people. The Taliban took over power in 1996
and ended in 2001 after the United States invaded Afghanistan (Atkins). The Taliban was harboring
Osama bin Laden who organized an attack on the United States. If the Taliban, along with al Qaeda,
had not harbored Osama bin Laden and conducted the attacks on September 11th 2001 then the United
States may not have invaded Afghanistan.
On September 11th 2001, Osama bin Laden organized a terrorists group, with the aide of al Qaeda, to
attack America in various locations all at once. During this attack, the terrorists flew two airplanes into
the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon, and crashed one in an empty field in Pennsylvania.

regarding the attacks. President Bush said The Taliban must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Existentialism In No Exit
Existentialism concentrates on human existence and an individual discovering their meaning and
purpose in life. It involves free will and the ability to make choices, while taking responsibility for the
outcomes of those decisions. Existentialism is composed of five different elements, which are
authenticity, angst, anxiety, freedom, and absurdity. In Jean Paul Sartre s play titled No Exit , the
multiple elements of existentialism are portrayed through the characters; Garcin, Estelle, and Inez.
One of the elements of existentialism that is present in No Exit is absurdity. Garcin finds himself in
complete disbelief when he realizes that hell is absolutely nothing like the depiction that is given on
earth. In the play, he states So this is hell. I d never have believed it. You remember all we were told
about were the torture chambers, the fire and brimstone... Instead of the common belief that hell is
nothing but a fire pit of agony, Garcin finds it to be just as normal as life on earth. ... Show more

Sofia Coppola s Lost In Adaptation
Lost in Adaptation Whitewashing has cast white actors to play the role of historically non white
characters since the birth of the film industry. From Mickey Rooney playing a Japanese landlord in
Breakfast at Tiffany s to Ghost in the Shell for casting Scarlett Johansson in an originally Asian role,
there is no doubt that this casting practice will be stopped. But why is whitewashing in Hollywood
still prevalent in Hollywood despite its disapproval?
Discussed in Corey Atad s article, Lost in Adaptation, the director, Sofia Coppola is guilty for gutting
the historical and racial background in her The Beguiled. Based on the novel by Thomas P. Cullinan
(1966), and the adapted film by Don Siegel (1971), The Beguiled is a story set in the South during the
Civil War about an injured Union soldier who seduces the women at a school for girls―which pitted
them against each other to fight for the soldier s affection. Both the novel and earlier film, featured a
black enslaved maid Mattie and a mixed race teenager Edwina; however, in Coppola s film, she cuts
Mattie out and recasts Edwina as a white school teacher. In his article, Atad criticized Coppola for her
excuses for cutting out the movie s two non white characters. Coppola explained one of her reasons to

given first person narrated chapters which depicted them as complex characters and essential to the
storyline. But instead of writing them as empowered women, Coppola removed them entirely.

The, And, Clothing, Leather And Tweed
Of particular interest, and a perfect piece to fit the genre, with two holes on both sides, and grommets
encircling the cutouts, is a white shift dress. While this dress is not what one would call wearable, it
certainly makes a statement, and one that Courrèges made well. Sensible women probably would not
have worn this dress due to the cutout placement unless they were in favor of foregoing their
undergarments. Courrèges utilized vinyl, pvc, leather, and an aggregate of burnished materials in order
to create his vision which supplemented his modern, futuristic vision. His cloth of choice was
gabardine, wool, and tweed. His background in architecture lent to his attention to detail and his
dedication to construction. While André Courrèges was gaining the praises of the masses, other
designers were forging ahead on the same path. Paco Rabanne also gained his fashion footing at
Balenciaga, however he also worked for Dior and Givenchy. Perhaps fashion was in his blood
considering his mother was previously the lead seamstress at Balenciaga. With his first manifesto

VI. Alternative Courses of Action
1. Set a minimum volume of coffee supply from farmers
Equal Exchange could set an agreement with the coffee growers that they will get a minimum volume
of coffee in order to gain mutual benefit. This will also ensure the coffee growers that whatever
happens in the market, they will still receive something as their income. 2. Offer loans for the farmers
in improving their production capacity
The Equal Exchange could offer some sort of loans for the small time coffee growers which they
could use for improving their production. When the harvest season comes they could repay the
company in any sort of payment they could give. It may come in the form of money or additional
volume of coffee. 3. Do nothing at all
This means that whatever strategy for Equal Exchange has been using will be retained despite the
changes that are happening in the coffee industry. This is to preserve the ethical behavior in the part of
Fair Trade.

The Characteristics Of Being Narcissistic
In recent years, the prevalence of having a main character in television shows be narcissistic yet
likeable has grown. Today it seems that every popular show has one; Tyrion Lannister from Game of
Thrones and Dexter Morgan from Dexter , both show defining characteristics of being narcissistic in
nature, yet their characters are received extremely well by audiences. The question that arises from
this is why do we find insubordination and a lack of regard for rules and the opinions of others so
intriguing? We know their actions are wrong in regard to how we conduct ourselves in society, but we
still are fond of characters who don t care about social norms or their behavior. A prime example of a

This characteristic of his personality is one that is alarming but one of the main aspects of his behavior
that s so interesting; the way he carries himself is almost provocative. Humans are intrigued by things
they don t understand. Doctor House falls into a specific category of people that are not the norm,
therefor making his disposition and erratic behavior that much more attractive. We like things we don
t quite understand, or at least most of us do. There s a certain mystery to it, and with how bold he is it
s understandable that at one point or another people may wish they could get away with a persona like
his. Another crucial aspect to his character is his observant nature. House looks at three main aspects
of people; personality, appearance and behavior. He then makes an effort to pick people apart and
mock them for personal enjoyment, and partially in some cases to aid in diagnosis. His methods are
unorthodox, but audiences enjoy his observant nature. According to the creator of the show David
Shore, House was created to be like Sherlock Holmes. From his drug dependency and home address to
how he analyzes a room in one fell swoop their personalities are incredibly similar. People envy
Sherlock for his uncanny perception and ability to solve a mystery as though the plot were written on
a notecard in front of him. There are occasions in which he s wrong, and both he and House seem to

Questions On Consumer Behaviour And Consumer Behavior
1. Introduction
1.1 Why do marketers need to understand consumer behaviour?
Marketers need to understand consumer behaviour in order to know what the consumer wants from a
product. This is because different types of people will want different things from the products they
buy; for example, an older, married couple will have different needs and wants to a young couple.
Marketers also need to understand the behaviour of consumers to design and construct the best
marketing approach to capture the chosen target market.
1.2 The Scenario

Hamlet Gender Roles

Gender: Women, the Lesser Sex Throughout the Ages When one thinks of art and religion, one may
think of gender role defiance and non conformism. While this may be generally true in present times,
it was not always this way. Women and men have had distinctly different places in society, these
places often being unequal. Generally most well known works throughout the ages have adhered to
and represented what society regarded as the proper gender roles for men and women. This is
represented in three works of art which will be discussed: Hamlet by William Shakespeare, The
Courtier: Book 3 by Baldassare Castiglione, and Luncheon on the Grass by Eduoard Manet. While
these three forms of art come from different times and are of different mediums, they are connected in
that they follow and represent the gender roles of their time. Hamlet is regarded by many as
Shakespeare s most well known work. A tragedy focused on revenge, this work awed the Elizabethan
audience with its shocking themes and content. The play follows Hamlet, a prince who is fixated on
avenging his father, who was murdered by Hamlet s uncle Claudius. Throughout the entirety of the
play, Hamlet behaves erratically and irrationally, focused entirely on revenge. This play features two
prominent female characters, Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, and Ophelia, a girl in love with Hamlet. Out
of the entire cast, these are the only two females with names, and they are not

President Obama Rewards The Ayatollah Analysis
President Obama rewards the Ayatollah by delisting his financial empire
Because of the sunset clauses in the JCPOA, the ultimate success of the nuclear deal depends on
transformation of the Iranian regime over the next decade from a hardliner revolutionary regime to a
moderate one. Surprisingly, the JCPOA removes the supreme leader s financial empire from the
sanction list on the implementation day. The Ayatollah has used this exclusively controlled financial
industrial conglomerate to pursue his hardline policy of supporting terrorist groups in the region,
oppressing dissidents in Iran and demanding annihilation of Israel. Removing these entities guarantees
prosperity of Supreme Leader s financial empire in the Post sanction Iran. Therefore,

The Development of the Navajo Rug and Blanket Essay
The Development of the Navajo Rug and Blanket Navajo rugs and weavings have gone through an
evolution, the earlier weavings were influenced by legends and represented meaningful events in their
lives. The contemporary weavings are more about designs, and demands for the Navajo rug. By taking
a look at specific historical events between 1700 and 1900, the reader can discover how this evolution
unfolded. Throughout history, the rugs maintained their artistic value, however the intent for their
creation was quite different. (meaningful events and legends vs. a growing rug market) These rugs are
a very priceless work of art, that have many meanings and an extraordinary amount of time put into
them.

Many Navajo people once believed the legend of spider woman, a spirit of Navajo tales. There is a
spirit that pervades everything, that is capable of powerful song and radiant movement, and that
moves in and out of the mind. Old Spider Woman is one name for this quintessential spirit....
(Grandmother, 12) Spider Woman is a creator, something like if a person believes in God. She helps
create, give life to things, and watch over the people offering her help where it is needed. She is a very
important spirit in the eyes of many many people. Either by Spider Woman or by the Hopi people the
Navajo learned how to weave, and weave well.
Considerable work goes into a hand woven rug.
It all starts with raising the sheep for the wool. This is where the major difference between the Navajo
and Hopi tribes are more evident. The Hopi men did all of the weaving; on the other hand, the women
did all the weaving for the Navajo tribe. This is all because the Hopi men thought since they were the

government spying inside the U.S. worries a lot of people. I thought deeper about this quote and this
quote is important because in the United States the people have freedom and if people are really afraid

are not afraid because they would have stop ped this by now. Therefor I m with drones because It is

The Theatre and its Identity Crisis
My trust in the definitiveness of reality is swiftly disintegrating beneath me. The deeper I dive into the
abyss of theory, the more I realize that nothing I have learned is safe from change; that facts may
actually be temporary and that everything is a prisoner of our construction of time. In admitting this, I
worry that these hypotheses are the beginning of a tiny delusion that will begin to gradually eat away
at the rest of my sanity. That scares me a bit, yes, but even as I sit here writing, I love this newfound
instability because it s ironically made me feel more grounded than I ve ever felt. Armed with these
ideas, I have looked back at the world I ve grown up with and finally begun to see society s seams

Butler also notes that if you play this role differently than the accepted one, you will be justly
punished. (521, 531) Though this is not entirely true, it s a fascinating theory that has struck a chord
with many. Just look at how people perceive transvestite or transgender males on the streets. As they
act in a so called feminine manner, people retreat from them out of discomfort or fear. Things and
theory only matter if they have some basis in truth, after all. There is a term in psychology that backs
up Butler s theory known concisely as the power of the situation. This self explanatory concept states
that our actions are shaped more by the setting we find ourselves in rather than what we determine our
personality to be. (Gleitman 2011) This implies that there are overarching societal expectations that
govern our behaviour in every situation we may encounter; every place we go to is assigned a
corresponding list of appropriate actions to execute whether we are aware of it or not. As Shakespeare
put it, All the world s a stage, and all the men and women merely players... (As You Like It Act 2,
scene 7, 139 143). This is directly in line with Butler s ideas. Even I, who tend to fall closer on the
male side of the spectrum than female, fall victim to these rules. I

Essay Selling Mortgage-Backed Securities
Introduction
According to news article on September 2nd contributed by Rexrode (2011) from AP, The government
on Friday sued 17 financial firms, including the largest U.S. banks, for selling Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac (Appendix) billions of dollars worth of mortgage backed securities that turned toxic
when the housing market collapsed . Beyond the apparent legal issues, this article intrigued me to
examine whether or not there are ethical issues involved regarding banks selling mortgage backed
securities. A mortgage backed security is defined by Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC
2010) as debt obligations that represent claims to the cash flows from pools of mortgage loans, most
commonly on residential property. To put it simple, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reaching its peak in 2006, the US housing market finally collapsed, since then average house
price have drop more than 30% as of 2010. (Parsons, 2011) What caused the housing price collapsed,
that ultimately led to the downward of US Economy, was that many mortgages were paid by
adjustable rate (Appendix), which increases in accordance with house price. Since the house price
were picked up in an ascending speed from 2000 to 2006, so was the interest rate homeowners had to
pay every month. Eventually, the interest went extremely high in 2006 and homeowners could not
afford to pay their monthly mortgages anymore, and lost their home to the banks. That caused the
chain reactions resulting in the dramatic price drop of mortgage backed securities because of
diminishing house price. Dramatic security price drop could not have caused the house price dropped;
on the contrary, had only the dramatic house price drop led to the securities price drop that ultimately
cost investors billions of dollars. As a matter of fact, major banks and financial firms were only issuers
of those securities; they have limited involvement and no direct control over price of securities. Thus,
banks should not hold responsible for the house market collapse because it was simply market
reactions.
Investors vs. Major Banks
Banks should not be blamed for causing investors hefty losses by selling securities; instead, investors

This country doesn t help its citizens as much as it thinks it does when it comes to family leave. A fact
from the Los Angeles Times(2014) states that, The federal government deems workers eligible for
unpaid parental leave only if they have been with their employer for at least 12 months, if their
employer has at least 50 employees, and if they worked at least 1,250 hours during that year long
period. Due to these conditions not everyone that is on the workforce can be eligible for even unpaid
leave, and this law it is unfair for the majority of small businesses and local businesses to grant their
workers any time off for family leave. This leaves the parents in a predicament, with either having to
only get unpaid time off for a short time or even having to quit their job and not being able to
financially support their new family, or they can stay at their job and work and have the money for

Essay on The Early Renaissance
The Early Renaissance
Today, what is considered to be the modern times began with the Early Renaissance at the start of the
15th century. As time has progressed, things have modified within societies to mold with the new
ways of thinking for that time. Between the years of the 1400 s and the 1800 s this world has
undergone many changes. Focusing on Europe, the major forces of change were in politics,
economics, and religion. In modern European history political effort were supplied by the state. Early
in the 15th century political warfare was the theme of everyday life. It was not until the Peace of Lodi

Banking was over run by the Germans. Trade in the East came to an end with the fall of
Constantinople. By the end of the 16th century, economics had shifted from the Mediterranean to the
Atlantic with the Spanish discovery of the New World. With this trade shift the worldwide economy
was in the makings. In the 17th century mercantilism is very prominent. Things such as state granted
monopolies, regulated exports and imports, tariffs, custom duties, quotas, slavery, colonial taxes, and
plantation system were in full effect. By the 18th century, a supply and demand economy had
produced. Through mercantilism, state regulations lowered the living standards of workers. The every

of the 15th century, religion in Europe revolved around the religious beliefs of the Papal Court.
Though there were many religious battles over the Church, few doubted the Church, following its
every demand. By the 16th century, many began to challenge that of the Papal State. People felt that
the beliefs and efforts of the Church had traveled way off track, and was in need of some repair.
Martin Luther began the radical attempt to fix what had gone wrong within the Papal State by posting
his Ninety five Theses upon the door of the Wittenberg University. The outcome of Luther s efforts

Scarlet Letter Transcendentalism Essay
As a transcendentalist, writing typically comes from a rebellious opinion or point of view, and in this
case, given that at this time it was the rise of the era of romantics, their focus was romance. Although
Nathaniel Hawthorne was a transcendentalist of this time, he did write pieces with main focuses of
dark romance. Hawthorne, unlike other writers of his time, would write about the imperfections and
vices that come with romance. One of his most famous works, The Scarlet Letter, is set and influenced
by a time in Puritan history called the Salem Witch Trials. He used aspects of his own history to
influence his writing as well. This is another technique that differentiated Hawthorne from other
writers of his time. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If an offense was to occur, it was first examined through the Bible and if it violated any words,
phrases, or laws, it would be considered a crime (Moss and Wilson 352). The Puritans believed that
the purpose of their strict beliefs was to create an example as to what a strong religious community
should look like. They aimed to be role models for those who did not follow the Puritan ways ( The
Scarlet Letter: Nathaniel 317). The Scarlet Letter starts out with Hester Prynne, the main character,
standing on a stage in the middle of her village waiting to be punished for her crime of adultery. The
reason why Hester received her punishment for her crime in front of the whole town is because this
was the custom in which Puritans believed successful. The Puritans believed that public humiliation
was the most effect punishment there was. In response to Hester s defiance, the Puritans thought it was
best for her to be punished in the most effective way as possible (Moss and Wilson 355). One of the
main reasons why Hester Prynne was punished and humiliated so greatly was because of the fact that
adultery was in fact a new crime. This meaning that it had not surfaced severely until Hester
conceived a child through her sin. This crime was unparalleled in their culture (Baym

Racism in the Chesapeake Area Essay
Racism in the Chesapeake Area
The Chesapeake area in the seventeenth century was a unique community that was almost absent of
racism. In this community, at this time, property was the central and primary definition of one s place
in society. The color of one s skin was not a fundamental factor in being a well respected and valued
member of the community. Virginia s Eastern Shore represented a very small fellowship of people that
were not typical of the Southern ideals during this time period and gave free blacks owning property a
great deal of respect and merit usually equal to that of any white man around. Racism, as a
generalization, was a common and mostly unified way of thinking in the Southern states for a very

Also, as governor, Bennett may have helped to look after the Johnson s legal and economic interests
as well. By acquiring his estate, it enabled Johnson to have a constant source of income and therefore
help the local community with it s economy similarly. This relationship between he and the
community came to help him when later his estate nearly burned down entirely. The court of
Northampton treated him very well in helping them get through the disaster. He was treated just as any
white man in Johnson s position would have been. This example alone shows how merely owning
property and giving back to the local community was a priority in establishing respect among people
of the Northampton area; his skin color did not matter. Another free black, Philip Mongum, was given
usually respectable treatment for a crime of adultery with a white woman, Margery Tyer. Mongum
was lucky enough to have been sold his freedom and managed to become a relatively prosperous
farmer. He also leased a 300 acre plantation with two white men in 1678 and later in 1680 acquired
more land, 200 acres, on his own. Needless to say this give him a very high level of respect and
standing among the local people. When the issue of the affair was discovered Northampton appeared
more concerned with the Sin of Adultry than having any concern that he was black. Mongum received
a large fine and was told to keep out of the company of

The Treatment Of A Patient
When a patient is no longer or unable to feed themselves orally a feeding tube must be ordered.
Specifically, when a patient has prolonged bleeding, facial trauma, upper GI blockage and cancer. An
enteral tube feeding can be placed nasally for a short period of time. The NG tube catheter tip
normally resides inside the stomach or in the small intestine past the pylorus. The number one
complication involved with the use of NG tube feeding is incorrect placement. A nurse can
unintentionally place an NG catheter into the lungs, most notably when a patient has little to no gag
reflex. Completing a test for gastric contents, pH or performing a chest x ray after inserting an NG
tube for confirmation of proper insertion. Another major complication when using NG tubal feeding is
aspiration within the lungs due to gastric substances enter the trachea and into the bronchial spaces of
the lungs. Keeping the head of the bed elevated greater than 30 degrees will reduce aspiration to least
possibility. Applying a gastrostomy or jejunostomy tube for enteral feedings when NG tube has
interference with therapy or ensues intolerance. The gastrostomy tube, PEG, tip situated in the
stomach and exits the body through the left upper quadrant of the abdomen where a bumper holds it
into location. Internally positioned by a doctor during an endoscopy, radiology or surgery. A

The Is The Most Important Factor Of A Movement
Last but not least, supporters of BLM should be brought to discussion, as they are the most important
factor of a movement. It is undeniable that BLM has received considerable support from a lot of
celebrities. One of them, an American actor and film producer, Samuel L. Jackson has challenged the
celebrities to go one step further as he posted a video on his public Facebook page asking famous
figures who took the Ice Bucket Challenge over the summer to join the protest: All you celebrities out
there who poured ice water on your head, here s a chance to do something else. I challenge all of you
to sing the We ain t gonna stop, till people are free song. BLM s list of celebrated supporters continue
with Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Russell Simmons, John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Marco Rubio, ...
The fact that celebrities can drive attention to certain things is undebatable. Hence, receiving support
from celebrities helps BLM become more and more influential. However, it is true that BLM has
failed to receive it from the most important people. Although BLM tries to speak out for black
community, almost all of the cases against which they protest are males. That is as well one of the
reasons that lead to the creation of Say Her Name , a movement fighting for black women. They have
been killed, beaten, or sexually assaulted but their cases have not received as much attention as those
of unarmed black men killed by police in recent years. Eventually, black women are the people

  • 2. Blockbuster Failures From 1985 until the early 2000 s, Blockbuster Video was the movie and video game rental powerhouse that lead the market in nearly every state in America. The company became the top in its market almost overnight. In 2004, the company s peak period, they had roughly 60,000 employees working at more than 9,000 stores nationwide. The first Blockbuster opened in October of 1985 by founder David Cook. Within a short few years, Cook grew the business incredibly and brought it public on New York Stock Exchange. Before long, Blockbuster stores were popping up in neighborhoods across the country (Hyatt, 2003). Blockbuster thrived until competition from other companies offering more convenient means of movie and video game rental began taking over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, in 1999, Blockbuster had a $5 billion IPO, and when Netflix began bursting at the seams, they had the opportunity to buy Netflix out. Instead, they practically laughed at the then small but growing company (Siegler, 2011). Another failure for Blockbuster came in the way of management. As the store essentially became a convenience store of sorts with the implementation of candy and throw away toys, the digital technology did not help to prompt people to come in for visits, except for the few hit releases that came a few times each year (Baskin, 2013). Instead, Blockbuster should have had associates become recommenders and catalog persuading de factos. Another fatal mistake was the procrastination that Blockbuster deployed in getting into the online DVD rental business. By the time they decided to get into the online racket in 2004, Netflix was already powerhousing the market and Redbox had recently launched. Blockbuster was dead in the water, and their utmost tragic mistake was in the arrogance Blockbuster officials displayed in underestimating the newly founded competition. They had a six year span to take on the changing market and counter their competition, but decided instead to sit around and let their company slowly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Revenge in Hamlet and The Revenger s Tragedy Essay In this study of revenge and revengers in two Elizabethan revenge tragedies the two plays I shall look at are Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, and The Revenger s Tragedy, by Thomas Middleton. I shall look first at the playwrights handling of the characters of the revengers, and then at the treatment of the revengers by other characters in the plays. Although having similarities in their underlying themes, and in their adherence to conventions, these two plays present contrasting pictures of the figure of the revenger; Hamlet offering a far more complex treatment of its main character, and The Revenger s Tragedy appearing, in comparison, limited by the author s social message, and lacking in realistic characterisation. Hamlet and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both revengers respond to, rather than initiate events, but Hamlet is much more an instrument of others than Vindice, who is full of zest. Both characters carry a burden of guilt. Hamlet s Oedipus complex, (Freud having informed us of the revenger s unconscious motives), is heavily aggravated by the absence of his father and excessive closeness of his mother, and this accounts for the refocusing of his patricidal wish onto Claudius, and shows how his need for revenge is internal, not purely a need to resolve dissatisfaction with the affairs of the world , as is Vindice s. Hamlet s needs are deep and complex, while for Vindice: The smallest advantage fattens wronged men. [1.2.98] Hamlet s internalisations arise because he has identified his ego with his father the lost object and is therefore suffering from a loss of ego. His inward suffering is further intensified by his conflicts with Ophelia and Gertrude, leading him to suicidal thoughts: O that this too too sullied flesh would melt, Thaw, and resolve itself into a dew! Or that the Everlasting had not flx d His canon gainst self slaughter! [1.2.129 132] Hamlet is searching deep into his soul for explanations and resolutions, while Vindice simply waits for that bald Madam Opportunity . [1.1.55] Hamlet s delaying, compared to Vindice s incessant activity, shows that the two revengers are in a way opposite in their approaches to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Frank Wall Street Reform And Consumer Protection Act The Dodd Frank Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act became Federal Law on July 21, 2010, instituting major financial regulatory reforms designed to improve the financial stability of the United States. It is a legislative response to the financial system trauma resulting from the Great Recession and a further regulation of the Financial Institution activities that led in part to the Great Recession. The Act, which was named after two key lawmakers involved in the congressional passing of the law, Congressman Barney Frank, House of Representatives Financial Services Committee Chairman, and Senator Chris Todd, former Senate Banking Committee Chairman, affects nearly all aspects of the oversight and supervision of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The relative successes and failures of that Act are becoming more apparent with time, and the shortcomings are subject to intense partisan criticism. As discussed below, Dodd Frank seeks to address the highly sensitive and controversial notion that Wall Street banks have been designated by the Federal Reserve as too big to fail. In fact, during the most severe moments of the crisis, the voices of free market proponents could be heard advocating that these troubled big banks, suffering massive losses due to their own bad bets, and if weakened to the point of failure, should be allowed to fail. Hindsight shows that allowing just one to fail, Lehman Brothers, had serious and lasting detrimental effect on the US and global financial system and markets. Had Lehman been saved, it would have been the most effective agent to unwind all of the transactions and trades to which it was a party, and likely in a rapid manner. However, being thrust into bankruptcy, and thereafter receivers were appointed to unwind the business, took months upon months and vast resources to settle Lehman accounts. Had Citibank, Bank of America, Bear Stearns, or AIG been allowed to fail, it may have been possible that the US financial system would have melted down completely. So these super banks, and non banks, cannot be allowed to fail in crisis, due to the system wide risk. Notwithstanding, such an implicit assurance, that they will always get a bailout, no matter how toxic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Treating Long-term Elderly Patents with Pressure Ulcers Serial Sharp Debridement and Formulated Collagen Gel to Treat Pressure Ulcers in Elderly Long term Care Patients: A Case Study Patients at Long Term Care Facilities are generally debilitated and elderly people who have incontinence problems. Incontinence makes treating pressure ulcers very difficult because it alters tissue tolerance and reapplying products becomes very costly. Usually negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is used to treat pressure ulcers but it is also very costly and does not match with some wound locations. Collagen plays a vital role in the wound healing process by creating a framework for the adhesion, movement, and production of new cells. This study determined the effects and uses of Type 1 formulated collagen on granulation tissue formation and reepithreelialization in chronic pressure ulcers. Eligible participants for the application of Type 1 formulated collagen gel must 1) have an open pressure ulcer at least 2.0 cm in diameter that did not heal after using NPWT and 2) have no symptoms of and wound or bone infection. The three patients in the study had a wound of at least 18 months and had showed no signs of improvement during 4 weeks of NPWT. The patients received the standard care including the treatment of moist wound healing and debridement, prevention of additional skin breakdown, and maintenance of functional abilities. Before beginning the use of collagen gel, sharp debridement was performed with additional sharp debridement performed at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Mission Chapel Essay Martin Lawag Roger Hall Hist 119 May 15, 2012 La Purisima A.) The mission chapel is beautiful. The beauty of this chapel can compare to the Santa Barbara one. They both are bright in color. When in the chapels I get a warm feeling. Old artwork. Kind of built like an ancient style building. Candles light up the room. B.) The natives daily duties consisted of mixing mud with straws to make adobe bricks to build. The Spanish soldiers lived a more foreign like lifestyle because the mission and their teachings were rather new to the natives. Some natives were blacksmiths and would build and repair the tools of Spanish society. Gradually, Chumash stone implements gave way to iron and steel. The Natives also lived by three basic laws. ... Natives lived a hunter gatherer to an agricultural based one under the tutelage of the Spanish system. Natives also created currency from seashells that have been found up and down the coast of California. C.) Earthquakes had affected La Purisima in a major way. So major, the natives had to relocate the original site from just outside of Lompoc, Ca. The natives refused to return to the original site, so the missions father decided to relocate to an area called La Canada de los Berros, a little further from Lompoc, about four miles north. The fathers rebuilt the Mission but decided to put the buildings in a straight line instead of the normal square shape since it would be more difficult for the buildings to damage each other if they fell during another earthquake. La Purisima is the only Mission not to follow the quadrangle shape of the rest of the Missions. • 7. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi And The Congress Of Gandhi On October 2, 1869, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born into a religious Hindu family. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, already had previous sons and daughters from his four other wives, with Gandhi marking his last son. As a child, Gandhi showed great interests towards family devotion and sacrifices. On his way to Pretoria, a white man objected to the fact that Gandhi was traveling first class. Gandhi refused to move, claiming he had a first class ticket. He was quickly thrown off the train and was forced to spend a night on the station platform. After a successful and fulfilling year as a lawyer, Gandhi s trip to South Africa was almost at an end. At his farewell party, Gandhi spotted a column in the newspaper stating that the government in Natal was preparing to seize Indian s right to vote. Disheartened by India s current condition, Gandhi decided to stay longer and gather signatures for a petition against the discriminatory actions. Within two weeks, the pacifist collected ten thousand signatures and founded the Indian Congress of Natal. Believing that written words would make a bigger impact, Gandhi published two pamphlets that spoke out against the new government movement. Without delay, Gandhi promptly returned to India to fetch his family. In 1906, Gandhi attempted a mass nonviolent civil disobedience campaign to counteract the South African Transvaal governments new restrictions and regulations. He dubbed it Satyagraha, meaning firmness in truth , but his attempts failed and he was promptly arrested. His actions, however, left a lasting impact, leading to multiple rebellions and protest. In 1913, Gandhi made a negotiated a compromise with General Jan Christian Smuts, which ended poll taxes for Indians and recognized non Christian marriages. Later on in his life, Gandhi supervised many other nonviolent acts of rebellions, such as mass marches and boycotts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Juvenile delinquency and the public sphere: exploring local and national discourse in England, c . 1940 69. Social History, 37(1), pp.19 35. This article explores juvenile delinquency and the public sphere by looking at local and national discourse in England from the 1940 to 1969. Bradley, in discussing juvenile delinquency and the public sphere argues that the fears of juvenile delinquency should be treated as a historical phenomenon. The article touches upon Pearson s book, with Bradley arguing that anxieties about the behaviour of the poorest young have a powerful presence in the British public sphere, and goes on further to explore the relationship between ... In exploring this, Goldson draws upon the work of other authors on female violence (Susan A. • 9. The Discovery Of The New World Essay By definition, a revolution is the overthrow of a suppressive government in favor of a new government, but it is also defined as a large change in society, or how it works. After the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus, European Nations competed in a race against one another to claim pieces of the new land. Before Columbus found this land, the sea separating the New World from Europe seemed endless. The Europeans were only interested in the land to the East. But with the New World there was so much to explore. The Europeans tossed aside their old toy to go play with a new one. During this time period of conquest throughout the New World it became known as the Age of Exploration. A New World meant more land, which meant places to build homes and plant crops, and more money to be earned by buying out new houses and selling new crops grown in foreign soil. These times of change are known as the American Revolution. At the time Spain claimed Mexico, and the Southwest portions of what would be known as America. France had their hands on most of present day Canada, as well as Louisiana. The Dutch set foot on land they called New Amsterdam, however, The English, who had settled their first colony in Jamestown, Virginia, drove the Dutch out and claimed New Amsterdam for themselves, later renaming it New York. The English claimed more land as time passed, and eventually they had formed 13 different colonies in the Eastern part of America. The English Colonies were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Taliban Downfall Afghanistan is one of the poorest and most troubled countries in the world today (Goodson 4). Over many years there have been many different leaders and tribes ruling Afghanistan. The most recent regime was the Taliban. According to The 9/11 Encyclopedia, Taliban means students in Arabic and it was founded in 1994 by Mohammed Mullah Omar. Omar had his own way of interpreting the Quran and that led to many religious restrictions on the Afghan people. The Taliban took over power in 1996 and ended in 2001 after the United States invaded Afghanistan (Atkins). The Taliban was harboring Osama bin Laden who organized an attack on the United States. If the Taliban, along with al Qaeda, had not harbored Osama bin Laden and conducted the attacks on September 11th 2001 then the United States may not have invaded Afghanistan. On September 11th 2001, Osama bin Laden organized a terrorists group, with the aide of al Qaeda, to attack America in various locations all at once. During this attack, the terrorists flew two airplanes into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon, and crashed one in an empty field in Pennsylvania. The total loss of life was 2,977 people. • 11. Existentialism In No Exit Existentialism concentrates on human existence and an individual discovering their meaning and purpose in life. It involves free will and the ability to make choices, while taking responsibility for the outcomes of those decisions. Existentialism is composed of five different elements, which are authenticity, angst, anxiety, freedom, and absurdity. In Jean Paul Sartre s play titled No Exit , the multiple elements of existentialism are portrayed through the characters; Garcin, Estelle, and Inez. One of the elements of existentialism that is present in No Exit is absurdity. Garcin finds himself in complete disbelief when he realizes that hell is absolutely nothing like the depiction that is given on earth. In the play, he states So this is hell. From Mickey Rooney playing a Japanese landlord in Breakfast at Tiffany s to Ghost in the Shell for casting Scarlett Johansson in an originally Asian role, there is no doubt that this casting practice will be stopped. But why is whitewashing in Hollywood still prevalent in Hollywood despite its disapproval? Discussed in Corey Atad s article, Lost in Adaptation, the director, Sofia Coppola is guilty for gutting the historical and racial background in her The Beguiled. Based on the novel by Thomas P. Cullinan (1966), and the adapted film by Don Siegel (1971), The Beguiled is a story set in the South during the Civil War about an injured Union soldier who seduces the women at a school for girls―which pitted them against each other to fight for the soldier s affection. Both the novel and earlier film, featured a black enslaved maid Mattie and a mixed race teenager Edwina; however, in Coppola s film, she cuts Mattie out and recasts Edwina as a white school teacher. While this dress is not what one would call wearable, it certainly makes a statement, and one that Courrèges made well. Sensible women probably would not have worn this dress due to the cutout placement unless they were in favor of foregoing their undergarments. Courrèges utilized vinyl, pvc, leather, and an aggregate of burnished materials in order to create his vision which supplemented his modern, futuristic vision. His cloth of choice was gabardine, wool, and tweed. His background in architecture lent to his attention to detail and his dedication to construction. While André Courrèges was gaining the praises of the masses, other designers were forging ahead on the same path. Hamlet Gender Roles Rebecca Nottke Dr. Lawson HUM 1010 42 Nov. 15th, 2017 Gender: Women, the Lesser Sex Throughout the Ages When one thinks of art and religion, one may think of gender role defiance and non conformism. While this may be generally true in present times, it was not always this way. Women and men have had distinctly different places in society, these places often being unequal. Generally most well known works throughout the ages have adhered to and represented what society regarded as the proper gender roles for men and women. This is represented in three works of art which will be discussed: Hamlet by William Shakespeare, The Courtier: Book 3 by Baldassare Castiglione, and Luncheon on the Grass by Eduoard Manet. While these three forms of art come from different times and are of different mediums, they are connected in that they follow and represent the gender roles of their time. Hamlet is regarded by many as Shakespeare s most well known work. A tragedy focused on revenge, this work awed the Elizabethan audience with its shocking themes and content. The play follows Hamlet, a prince who is fixated on avenging his father, who was murdered by Hamlet s uncle Claudius. Throughout the entirety of the play, Hamlet behaves erratically and irrationally, focused entirely on revenge. Since the house price were picked up in an ascending speed from 2000 to 2006, so was the interest rate homeowners had to pay every month. Eventually, black women are the people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
