Essay on Predictable and Unpredictable Life Events
P5: Explain the influences of two predictable and two unpredictable major life events on the
development of an individual
A life event can change the direction of our lives, affecting our personal development. Some major
changes in life can be predicted and even chosen, while others may be unpredicted. Predictable life
events, such as starting school, going through puberty and retiring from work, often mark a transition
from one stage of life to another, acting as milestones in our personal development. Unpredictable life
events, such as sudden illness or injury, redundancy or the death of a friend or relative, occur
unexpectedly and are often associated with loss, but may also lead to positive change in our lives.

home and new financial responsibilities. This will have enabled Cheryl to gain information and life
skills in this department.
Emotional Development
Marriage is a very emotional life event. Marriage is based on love and affection and about two people
living their lives together. Marriage creates an emotionally fulfilling and intimate relationship and
enhances the relationship that is already there. Marriage allowed Cheryl s self esteem to be enhanced
as she became a whole new person, living a more mature way of life. The relationship started off very
strong and their intimacy seemed to on a high. On the day of Cheryl s wedding she will have
experienced several different emotions including happiness, nervousness and excitement. During
marriage if the relationship remains strong there emotions tend to stay in tact but on a smaller but
meaningful scale. A healthy marriage tends to enable emotions to be happy, although an

America s Superpower
When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, the United States became the world s sole superpower
(Weiner). It is vital for The United states to act its part as the world superpower and continue to help
govern and protect developing and recovering countries. As the world s only superpower we are given
the opportunity to either stand by and watch as millions of people die from acts of terror and
corruption, or use our immense political, economical, and military power to help save, and better the
world and the lives of potentially billions of people. It is important America acts as a whole now more
than ever, these following years of action or inaction of the US in the middle east can and will affect
not only the US but countries around the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inaction is more dangerous and can cause a potentially riskier and costlier than smart, limited
intervention. Syria may seem far away, but every passing day, every calamitous, explosive, hate
infused day, makes it more America s and the world s problem (Ghitis). Everyday more and more
people are being displaced out of their homes and land because of war and terrorist acts posed by ISIS
and the corrupt governments like Syria. These injustices imposed by these groups spread and will
eventually effect of the world in action is not taken now. As seen by (Ghitis) again when he shows
Millions of Syrians have fled their homes, straining resources and occasionally raining fire into
Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and even Israel. These millions of displaced refugees hurt surrounding
countries and have forced them to even put up border lines and gates preventing these refugees from
flooding their countries. This inflicts great stress and problems to these countries. Countries like
Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq, because they are now having to increase security spending and take
care of millions of homeless people who are starving and dying of injuries or disease that they just do
not have the supplies to help. At this point, this is where the US needs to be brought in, if not sooner.
The US has the capabilities to prevent all of these problems, but

Masculinity In The Blind Side
The movie that I chose to write about is the 2009 movie, The Blind Side. It is a film about a young
African American male, nicknamed Big Mike who is basically homeless and struggles in school.
Michael grew up in a very bad neighborhood and was taken away from his mother at the age of 7, who
is a crackhead and is described as promiscuous with lots of kids. We see the character depiction
difference in the very scene when Leigh Anne goes to visit Michael s mother, Denise. She is dark
skinned, disheveled and her apartment or housed is a complete mess. This is the total opposite of what
Leigh Anne is, which is organized, neat and clean, well dressed and who s house is big, beautiful and
clean. We then learn that Denise doesn t even remember who his father is. Michael is in and out of
foster homes because he keeps running back to his mother although he doesn t live with her. Michael

We see Leigh Anne as an assertive, dominant white female over her husband and the high school
football coach. We also see it when she goes looking for Michael in the bad neighborhood and
exchanges words with one of the men there as she mentions that she always packs heat. Deviant black
masculinity that might appear threatening to the white community is then confined to real and
imaginary ghettos. (Montes de Oca pg136) At one point when a woman who investigates with the
NCAA even questions the absurd situation and although she doesn t say it, she s probably seeing it as
being saved by a white savior as well, except that her reasons are all wrong. This film reminded me a
little bit of Precious because of the poor academic skills and the feeling of being out of place socially.
The other thing that reminded me of it was because in that movie Ms. Rain and Mrs. Weiss were her

Action Potential Analysis
In our brain we have neurons that communicate every second of the day with one other through their
dendrite and axons. Most of the time incoming signals are received in the dendrites and outgoing
signals travel down the axon to the nerve terminal. For the neuron to receive the rapid communication
due to the long axon, the neuron sends electrical signals, from the cell s body to the nerve terminal.
This process is known as nerve impulses, or action potential. Brain neurons can transmit signals using
a flow of sodium(Na+) and potassium (K+) ions, that produces an electrical spike called an action
potential (AP) (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). Action potential is essentially a slight reversal of electric polarity
across the membrane. When an action potential takes place, the sodium potassium pump resets the
way sodium and potassium ions were back to their original positions. The sodium potassium does this
to the neuron so when it is then ready to relay another action potential, it will pump when called upon
to do so. The Na+/K+ pump has a housekeeping role rather than a direct role in brain signaling
(Forrest, 2014, P. 1). For an action potential to be generated the membrane voltage must be strong
enough to bring the membrane voltage to a critical value called the threshold. ... Show more content

As the action potential is near its peak, sodium channels begin to close which then allows the
potassium channels to fully open. Potassium ions rush out of the cell and the voltage quickly returns to
its original resting state. This corresponds to the falling phase of the action potential. Sodium and
potassium at this point have switched places across the membrane and the resting membrane potential
is then slowly restored due to diffusion and the sodium potassium pump. Without the process of the
sodium potassium pump and the action potential, our nerve cells will not

Finding Neverland Movie Assignment
The movie Finding Neverland is about the writer J.M. Barrie and his journey of writing plays about
imagination and happiness. Barrie has a close relationship with Sylvia Llewelyn Davies, and her sons,
who give Barrie the idea of the well known play Peter Pan. J.M. Barrie attends the reception of his
latest play, Little Mary and from this reception he meets Sylvia, who is a widow now. Barrie enjoys
spending time with Sylvia and her four sons, and through this proves to be a great playmate and father
figure for the boys. Sylvia s mother, Emma du Maurier does not like the amount of time Barrie spends

Nietzsche s View On The Existence Of God
This his view can be perceived that something in our mind or what we understand can exist as an
object in reality. Since people can think about God in their mind, God s existence should be justified.
Even though people do not understand the existence of God, God actually exists as long as they can
think of God in their mind. When I started decoding his idea about the existence of God, it is hard to
understand that God actually exists because I do not understand the existence of God. However,
because of his idea that something that which nothing greater can be thought and even if he does not

The Kite Runner Marxist Lense Paper
In the book The Kite Runner, original social status is proven to create barriers in life regarding the
aspects of friendship, mindset, and adaptation to change as we observe Baba s and Amir s life journeys
in order to discover how it affects these aspects. Amir s friendship with his hazara servant s son
Hassan takes a sudden toll as he ultimately comes to believe that traditional and historical beliefs
outweighed true friendship as he was a young child. The mindset of Baba does not adjust when he and
Amir are forced to move to America, as he still believes he possesses the same amount of power as he
did in Afghanistan. While living in America, Baba never fully adapts to the American culture and way
of life as he continues to live and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One day Asseff rapes Hassan as an act of power, and Amir witnesses the actions but acts in a cowardly
matter and simply avoids the matter by ignoring it. Amir then proceeds to cut off the relationships
between himself and Hassan, I actually aspired to cowardice, but the real reason I was running, was
that Asseff was right. Nothing was free in this world. Maybe Hassan was the price I had to pay, the
lamb I had to slay to win Baba. Was it a fair price? The answer floated to my conscious mind before I
could thwart it: He was just a Hazara. Wasn t he? Amir did it because the traditional and historical
beliefs were more important than friendship. This action displays how being born in a different social
class can outweigh all feelings of love and friendship with one of a different social group.
As the war in Afghanistan begins, Baba and Amir flee to America where they went from being at the
top of the social pyramid, to starting again at the very bottom. Baba s mindset however, remains the
same throughout his whole life. Back in Afghanistan, Baba was very proud of his possessions and the
ability to afford so many luxuries, as he often would show off his fancy mustang which he bought
prior to seeing it in a movie, Then, Baba and I drove off in his black Ford Mustang a car that drew
envious looks everywhere because it was the same car Steve McQueen had driven in Bullitt, a film

Role Of Global Macro Strategy On A Defined Benefit Pension...
Article: CFA Society Toronto The Analyst Writer Irfan Chaudhry Portfolio Manager TAHO Capital
The Role of Global Macro Strategy in a Defined Benefit Pension Portfolio In the last five years, the
funded status of an average Canadian pension fund improved from 65% to almost 90% because of one
of the longest stock market rallies and interest rate stabilization. Pension plans still remain largely
exposed to the significant and unpredictable volatility of interest rates and market risk as shown in the
drop in interest rates in 2013/2014 and the stock market correction in 2011. It is urgent for pension
funds to mitigate these risks in a maturing market. Interest rate risk can be mitigated by increasing
fixed income allocation, cash flow immunization, a derivative strategy based on taking an interest rate
view for which they are not qualified, changing plan structure which may result in a lower payoff to
pensioners or higher contributions from plan sponsors or by transferring portions of liabilities to an
insurance company through an annuity transaction. A going concern pension plan will require the
returns enhancement even after the implementation of some of these risk mitigation measures because
of un modeled liabilities and uncertain assumptions. Even bigger is the market risk as correlation of
asset classes in a multi asset pension fund portfolio turns to one at the time of crisis. This undercuts
diversification as portfolio construction logic. The pension funds

The Real Monster In Victor Frankenstein
In Mary Shelley´s Gothic novel, Frankenstein, the Monster once claimed, The fallen angel becomes a
malignant devil. Yet even that enemy of God and man had friends and associates in his desolation; I
am alone. Frankenstein, since the 1910 film adaptation, has known a series of several adaptations that
changed drastically, not only the plot but one of the main characters, the Monster, from stealing its
creator´s name to being portrayed as a cold villain. Though, in the original storyline, the biggest threat
to society is the creator itself, the one pretending to play as God, Victor Frankenstein. This essay will
discuss the nature of the main characters of the novel and conclude who is the real monster in the end.

Frankenstein was a coward that used science selfishly to become a God without taking responsibility
of the retaliation of defying the laws of Nature. The Monster did kill many and became a murderer,
acts that cannot be forgot except that they are the consequence of the negligence of its creator. That is
why ethics are necessary, as people like Victor Frankenstein, in the name of the human civilization, do
terrible and unethical acts. Victor had an obsession, just like the Monster, the first one with building
and the other one with destroying. In the end, the Monster could have been the result of an experiment
that could have to be useful for society in some way, at least, better than an indifferent criminal. Dr.
Victor Frankenstein is the biggest threat to society as he has a negligent attitude, governed by
impulsive attitudes, Frankenstein, in the beginning, tries to be good but the Monster embraced his
darker side, his ambition, and egotism which consumed Victor s entire life, ending up in misery that

In this paper Team C will discuss a situation within a company that requires research, hypothesis and
variable. We will also go over the ethics that need to be taken into account. The situation that is being
faced is the employee turnover rate is too high. This is a significant problem because it is causing the
company to lose money each time they have to train a new employee. This is a great situation to
research and find out what is going on, and figure out how it can be changed. The research for this will

Another may be training and development opportunities. The variables that we are looking for in this
study will in some way show how to increase employee retention. When dealing with employee
retention issues there may be more than one solution to fixing the issue. That is why it is important to
ask the right questions during an exit interview as well as in any other form of interview or survey.
Ethical Considerations
In the issue of poor employee retention research is definitely a good way to figure out what the issues
are and how to combat them. There are however, ethical matters that should be considered during the
research process. Making sure that employees confidentiality is kept during the process is very
important, also you want to make sure that race is not involved. It is also important to make sure that
the results do not interfere with the employees that are currently employed within the company. It is
important to keep the objectives clear, and to make sure that proper consent is given when necessary.
Making sure that ethical considerations are taken into account are very important during any business
research including finding out why there is poor employee retention.
Conclusion
In this paper Team C has discussed the issue of poor employee retention concluding in a high
employee turnover rate. This is an issue that can be common among some companies and that is a
great example of

Theology of the Qumran Community The discovery of the Dead Sea Scroll was an important impact
in history. It is known to be the oldest manuscripts dating back between 200 BCE and 70 BCE, with
some small portion of the texts dating back to the 3rd century BCE, and some extant material dating to
the first century BCE. The scrolls consist of 900 manuscripts that were written in Hebrew, Greek, and

The Qumran community looked into the end of days through prophetic scriptures. The notion of the
end of days is the common belief of experiencing judgment and salvation. According to Vanderkam
Flint, it has a positive and negative side (pg. 264). In the negative side, the end of days will involve a
period of trails where the forces of Belial redouble their efforts to defeat the ranks of the righteous
(4Q174) In the positive side, for those who are chosen, it will be a time of purifying. Another crucial
information to know about the Qumran s view of the end of days is the meeting of messianic
characters in the scrolls. These are found in the Shoot of David and the Interpreter of the Law, where
they talk about two messiahs. One was to be the messiah of Aaron, a priestly messiah, while the other
was to be the messiah of Israel, a royal messiah of Davidic descent. (Lesson, week #6). The Qumran
community believed that in the end of days, God will interfere and will send leaders of the future that

The Importance Of Robots
I leaned a little closer as i tried to make out what seemed to be grey hairs on the back of my friend s

attempt before that. The close bond my male counterparts on the robotics team were developing was
resistant to female intrusion, and I often found myself on the outskirts of the group staring bemusedly

The next few days irked me as I began to notice the dynamic between the girls and boys on the

struggled to participate in planning and discussions. In a fit of frustration I googled voltage
transformers in a vague attempt to find a site to nicely explain what it was, but stopped when I saw
microwave transformer in one of the suggested searches. I slowly smiled and searched craigslist. A

Cinema of Attractions vs Narrative Cinema
This essay will discuss both the Cinema of Attractions and Narrative Cinema and their origins in order
to better understand the differences found between them in regards to the criteria to follow. This essay
will highlight the role that the spectator plays, and the temporality that both the Cinema of Attractions
and Narrative Cinema exhibit.
Tom Gunning proposed the Continuity Model in order to better understand the beginning of film and
the making of film. Gunning proposes the following assumptions: Firstly, the evolutionary
assumption, in which film is considered to have developed linearly across time as more development
occurs. Secondly, the cinematic assumption theorises that film only truly came to being through the ...

Méliès was one of the first directors to progress cinematic technology, which paved the way for
narratives as style of film (Leveridge, 2012: 98).
Cinema after 1906, according to Gunning, pushed towards the structure of linear narrative, and away
from the immediacy of the spectacular image (Strauven, 1999: 387).
Paradigms and their relation to the Spectator
The Cinema of Attractions is based on an exhibitionist paradigm (Gunning, 2004: 44), where it seeks
to knowingly addressing the spectator and provide its spectator with a series of views or selective
information (Strauven, 1999: 49). The cinema of attractions existed primarily between the years 1895
and 1906 (Strauven, 1999: 38).
Cinema of Attractions is concerned with the ability to display. Attractions wanted to show the here and
now , interacting with its spectator with the aim of satisfying the audience s curiosity quickly
(Gunning, 2004: 44). It displays current events, scenes form everyday life, composed scenes,
vaudeville performances and also camera tricks (as pioneered by George Méliès). Cinema of
Attractions aims to astonish its audience (Strauven, 1999: 50). through displaying, rather than amusing
its audience through narrative content. This is seen in films such as G. Méliès L homme orchestre
(One Man Band) (1900), or his L homme à la tête de caoutchouc (The Man With The Rubber Head)
(1901) where the actor(s) constantly address the camera/spectator and the audience is

Curriculum Of American Education Essay
Malala Yousafzai, Bill Gates, Michelle Obama, and Emma Watson. What do all of these people have

around the world. As someone who has been fortunate enough to have gone through school in such an

firmly believe that education is the strongest asset that any generation can have to succeed.
In recent years, the United States has fallen behind other countries in education. While we might not
be seeing the immediate effects right now, but unless we make education more accessible and
comparable to other countries curriculum, Americans will fall behind in the global market. It is
imperative that the curriculum of American schools is reevaluated in order to help future generations

is clear to see the detrimental effects of this. If you ask anyone who took a foreign language class in
high school, chances are that they have retained none of it, unless they continued to study it in college.
This is because by the teenage years, it is much harder for the human brain to learn a second language.
If more schools began teaching a second language in elementary schools, it is more likely that students

mother taking leaps and risks. For example, one day when her mother was working as part of a trapeze
act in a circus show, a freak lightning bolt struck the tent pole during a performance. Unfortunately,
her mother s hands did not meet her husband s, so she took off her blindfold and, instead of latching
on to her husband and leading herself to her death, she changed direction, twisted towards a heavy
wire and . . . managed to hang on

Why Is Elvis Costello Essay
Elvis Costello a brilliant singer and songwriter came onto the new wave scene in the late 1970s. When
you looked at him he resembled the late great Buddy Holly who also had nerdy looking spectacles and
of course his name reminded one of the King of Rock and Roll. Therefore it seemed destined that
Costello would be a success in the world of music.
Inborn Talent
He came into this world as Declan Patrick Macmanus on August 25, 1954 in Paddington, London,
England. I say he had inborn talent because his dad was a successful big band singer and trumpet
player. Costello went to Catholic school and tried out a variety of different instruments among them
the violin. Then at the age of 15 he took up the guitar and at this point was already interested ... Show

Songs on the album included Sweet Dreams and A Good Year For the Roses .
He came out with some really haunting ballads on his album Imperial Bedroom in 1982. Songs here
included Beyond Belief and Tears Before Bedtime .
In 1983 his song Every Day I Write the Book became a Top 40 hit in the U.S. and in 1984 he was
noted for Goodbye Cruel World .
Changing Trends
Along with changes in his personal life Costello temporarily traded his band The Attractions for a
pickup band called The Confederates which included former Elvis Presley musicians. With these
musicians he recorded the album King of America in 1986 with songs like Don t Let me Be
Misunderstood .
Costello followed up this album with Blood and Chocolate and set on a tour that featured The
Attractions, The Confederates and Costello singing solo. Songs from this album were Uncomplicated
and I Want You .
Costello designed the Spinning Songbook which allowed the audience to choose by luck of the draw,
songs from his very vast repertoire.

Sonia Sotomayor Attenuation Essay
Sonia Sotomayor became the first Latina Supreme Court Justice in the United States when nominated
by President Barack Obama. She graduated from Yale Law School. She became a U.S District Court
Judge in 1992 and was bumped into the U.S Second Circuit Court of Appeals in 1997 by President
Bill Clinton. She was confirmed by the Senate that October. In addition to the Court of Appeals,
Sotomayor also began teaching law as an adjunct professor at New York University in 1998 and at
Columbia Law School in 1999. In June 2015, Sonia made history when she was among the majority in
two landmark Supreme Court rulings. She was one of six justices to uphold a critical component of

The attenuation doctrine is an exception to the doctrine of the fruit of the poisonous tree. The approach
that the Utah Supreme Court adopted was an outstanding warrant doesn t implicate attenuation

police to stop you on the street, demand your identification, and check it for outstanding traffic

has spoken extensively about how her personal experiences have influenced her private and public

privacy she believes this decision allows. Race plays a major role in Sotomayor s dissenting opinion.

The Importance Of Effective Teaching Practices Essay
Demonstrating Effective Teaching Practices Criterion two of the Teacher and Principal Evaluation
Program is Demonstrating Effective Teaching Practices (CEL 5D+, 2014, p.3). The focal point of this
criterion is developing teaching practices that engage all or most students. Implementing effective
teaching practices positively affects students in a variety of ways. It allows students to learn the
necessary skills for them to be independent lifelong learners, helps them develop a deeper
understanding and meaning of texts, find solutions to real world problems, increase comprehension,
thinking and reasoning skills as well as increases achievement (Alozie Mitchell, 2014; Chun Jang,
2012; Murphy, Wilkinson, Soter, Hennessey, Alexander, 2009; Ong, Hart, Chen, 2016; Patrick, Ryan
and Kaplan, 2007; Van de Pol, Volman, Oort, Beishuizen, 2015). Criterion two includes four sub
criterions. This section will provide a description and empirical evidence to support the following four
sub criterions: quality of questioning, expectation and support and opportunity for participation and
meaning making, substance of student talk and finally, scaffolding tasks. Quality of Questioning The
first component of the second criterion is quality of questioning (CEL 5D+, 2014). In order for
teachers to become proficient in this area they must frequently ask[s] questions to probe and deepen
students understanding (CEL 5D+, 2014, p.3). This component also includes continually helping

Ford Pinto Cost Benefit Analysis
Dennis Gioia had taken part in making a decision based off of a cost benefit analysis regarding
whether Ford should conduct a recall for the Ford Pinto or should they do nothing. In this situation,
Ford s cultural values play a big role on how they approached this issue. The organization beliefs of
everyone was to make sure Ford was losing the minimal amount of money regardless if people are in
danger or not. The cost benefit analysis indicated that they did not think people s safety was as
important as retaining money within the company. The rationalization tactics that was used was social
weighting. In Gioia s article, he mentioned that they compared the Pinto to other cars of that class and

Why Is David Important In The Renaissance
In the renaissance there were many famous artists and masterpieces. One of the most famous works of
art is known as the statue of David, sculpted by Michelangelo. The statue of David is one of the
greatest works of art from the high renaissance for so many reasons, including the fact that it is one of
Michelangelo s most well known works of art. Michelangelo was one of the greatest artists from the
high renaissance, along with many others. He created many masterpieces in his time and the statue of
David may only be one of them but it is considerably the best.
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buanarroti Simoni was an Italian born sculptor, painter, architect, poet and
engineer. He was born on March 6 1475 in Caprese, Italy and died February 18 1564 in Rome, Italy.

September 8 1504, it was originally meant to be placed on the roof of Florence s Cathedral Duomo but
that became something they weren t able to do because of its size and mass. The original location the
statue was placed was in the public square outside the Palazzo della Signoria. However, in 1873 it was
moved to the Galleria dell Academia and in 1910 it was replaced by a replica in the public square.
Once the statue was unveiled it quickly became a symbol of defense of civil liberties embodied in the
Republic of Florence. In 1499 Michelangelo was asked by the consuls of the Guild of Wool to
complete an unfinished project started 40 years earlier. The project was started by Agostino di Duccio
to create a colossal statue of David as a symbol of Florentine freedom, and the project was eventually
given to Michelangelo to complete. Luckily Michelangelo was the one chosen to complete the project

Literature Review On Metacognition
2. Literature review
2.1. Metacognition Generally Metacognition is defined as how individual monitor and control their
cognitive process (Young Fry, 2008). Metacognition refers to being able to reflect upon, understand,
and control one s learning. Previous accounts of metacognition have differentiated between two major
components, including knowledge about cog¬nition and regulation of cognition (Brown, 1987;
Flavell, 1987; Jacobs Paris, 1987). Knowledge about cognition includes three sub processes that
simplify the reflective aspect of metacognition: declarative knowledge (i.e., knowledge about self and
about strategies), procedural knowledge (i.e., knowledge about how to use strategies), and conditional
knowledge (i.e., knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the area of general education, research has been found that intelligence is a strong predictor of
learning (Chamorro Premuzic, 2007; Primi, Ferrao, Almeida, 2010). According to Flavell (1979,
1987), metacognition involves metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive experiences or regulation
of cognition. Also Metacognition has been recognized as a strong predictor of learning (Coutinho,
2007; Dunning, Johnson, Ehrlinger, Kruger, 2003; Flavell, 1976, 1979; Kruger Dunning, 1999;
Veenman Elshout, 1995). The pupose of this research is to give information about relationships
between intelligence, metacognition, and learning but first of all the examination of the predictive
power of intelligence and metacognition in L2 learning gets priority in this study. Then, estimated the
distinctive contribution of metacognition and intelligence beyond and above each other. Although
some studies have done such these examination ,such as; language learning and intelligence (Ekstrand,
1977; Genesee, 1976), and language learning and metacognition (Green Oxford, 1995; Oxford Burry

language learning s predictors. In This study the examination of the role of

Dentofacial Orthopedic Therapy
Lexington, KY Braces for Kids and Teens
Beautiful straight smiles can help build confidence and better health. As a family practice, we love
helping kids achieve the beautiful confident smiles they deserve to have. By survey, parents say that
their kids are happier about themselves and smile more often once their teeth are straight. Having
straight teeth also helps to avoid future complications with gum disease.
Dr. Patricia Takacs is very experienced in straightening children s teeth and has considerable advanced
training in the technology and utilization of braces. She is equipped to assess exactly what needs to be
done to give your child a straight smile and a healthy bite.
Your first step is an evaluation of your child s teeth, jaw, and bite. Dr. Takacs will thoroughly review
treatment options with you and answer any questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process is started when the patient is still a child, often before any other orthodontic treatment
has begun. However, it can still be performed during later stages of treatment.
Dentofacial orthopedic therapy usually focuses on correcting potential bite and spacial problems by
guiding the growth and development of the jaw. We do this by using orthodontic appliances such as
mouthguards, space maintainers, retainers, expanders, and other devices.
This process is important because it helps to ensure the success of later orthodontic treatment. In some
cases, it can even prevent the need for braces down the road! For instance, if a child s spacing issues
can be resolved while their jaw is still developing and their permanent teeth are still coming in, it may
prevent teeth from becoming crowded and needing braces to straighten them. Even if it doesn t
prevent crowding completely, it will certainly help the later orthodontic treatment to work faster and
more efficiently.

The Collins And Aristotle s Impact On The Field Of Education
Abstract Within this report I will inform you of two diverse educators, Marva Collins and Aristotle,
and their significant impact in the field of education. The information provides the reader with a very
brief biography of each educator, their contributions within the field of education, as well as their
impact on others. There will be a comparison and contrast graph between the two educators, from their
philosophies to their own education. This report will even ignite my own personal experiences on the
effect of both Marva Collins and Aristotle.

She began teaching to students in Alabama, her home state. Knowing that she had more to achieve,
Marva picked up and moved up north to Chicago after teaching for two years. In Chicago she met
Clarence Collins. A few years later Marva Deloise Nettles became Marva Deloise Collins and she
gave birth to three children: Eric Collins, Patrick Collins, and Cynthia Collins. After getting her life
started, Collins spent fourteen years working as a substitute. Her experiences and the visuals she s
came across did not appeal great to her and it triggered something great within her. Marva Collins
took a big withdraw from her retirement plan and started her very own school in her own home know
as Westside Preparatory School. Her efficacy was outstanding and her accountability showed for it.
Although she only started with a few students, she still taught and helped those student as if she was
sitting in front of an entire classroom of students. Collins let it be known that her school was open to
any and every child who has struggled in any other school system. She took those who were referred
to as retards or mentally challenged and pushed them so they could read at their grade level. It didn t
stop there though she made it to the point they were reading many levels above the expected.
The community and the education loved Marva Collins teaching style so much that they named it after
her. That form of teaching is known as The Collins Method. This method

Medea A Misogynist
Due to modern perceptions, Euripides is often interpreted as a feminist; however, the way that he
wrote female characters, specifically Medea, proves that he is not a feminist and therefore a
misogynist. This is evident because of the intentional way he villainized her. Many people see
Euripides as a feminist because they look at Medea through a modern point of view. There are no
records on Euripides stance on women, so in order to get a better understanding of his intention with
Medea, she should be looked through the eyes of the intended audience which would have been a
greek man.
Euripides intentionally makes Medea unattractive to the male audience. He does this is by painting
Medea as a typical woman who has been betrayed by her husband in order to gain the audience s pity
and make her relatable. Once he has gained the audiences pity, he flips the script and turns Medea into
someone the audience views as a monster. He uses a couple of different tactics to achieve this goal. He
uses the Nurse s opening speech and Medeas cries of anguish to gain the audiences pity. He gives her
many honorable greek traits in order to make her relatable, but he has her use these trait for barbaric
purposes. In her speech, the Nurse describes what has happened to Medea that has caused her to be in
a state of grief. She tells the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

them so she will be able to act out her revenge against Jason. With Creon, she uses his pity. Madea

The Human Skin
Your skin is the body s first defense mechanism. A barrier against pathogens and water loss, the
human epidermis undergoes a constant renewal process called cornification, as old dead skin cells,
corneocytes, are shed and replaced by cells from the layers below to maintain constant protection. A
defect in the skin barrier could develop various skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis. The most
common form of eczema, atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin condition characterized by inflammation
and itchy, dry patches of skin. Although no cause has been determined, researchers focus on studying
genetic abnormalities and influences on a defective epidermal barrier (Sajic, Asiniwasis, Skotnicki
Grant, 2012). Mutations in the filaggrin gene, with environmental factors that further damage the skin
s protective barrier, are one of many aspects contributing to the cracked skin and inflammation of
atopic dermatitis.
Filaggrin is an important protein in cornification that contributes to the strength and moisture of the
stratum corneum, or topmost layer of the skin, through formation of the cornified envelope and
maintenance of the natural moisturizing factor. The precursor to filaggrin is profilaggrin, a protein in
keratohyalin F granules at the granular epidermal layer. As the granular cells transition to the stratum
corneum during cornification, serine activated proteases proteotypically cleave profilaggrin into
filaggrin peptides (McLean Irvine, 2012). The filaggrin then binds to and

Difference Between New England And The Chesapeake Colonies
The difference between the colonies of New England and the Chesapeake region were many. First,
they settlers who immigrated to the new world had different reasons for doing so. For the Chesapeake
colonies, including Virginia and Maryland, profit was the aim. After the introduction of tobacco to
Europe by Columbus at the end of the fifteenth century, there was a large and steadily growing
demand for the crop. Investors in England decided to set up colonies in the Americas for the purpose
of growing and profiting from tobacco. On the other hand, the colonies of New England were set up
primarily for religious reasons. Although there were some that sought profit in New England, most
settlers sought liberty and freedom of worship. English separatists, who vehemently disagreed with the
way the Church of England was set up, left Holland and came to America on the Mayflower. They
landed in modern Massachusetts and established the Plymouth Colony. Rhode Island was also
founded on a religious basis after Roger Williams and his fellow dissenters were exiled from
Massachusetts. It became a haven for Quakers, Jews, Baptists and members of other minority
religions. A second difference in the colonies of the Chesapeake and of New England comes in the
basis of their economies. As mentioned above, Virginia was founded in order to grow tobacco.
Maryland s foremost crop was also tobacco. Also, the way tobacco was cultivated was important to
the Chesapeake colonies. Plantation owners were in

  • 2. Essay on Predictable and Unpredictable Life Events P5: Explain the influences of two predictable and two unpredictable major life events on the development of an individual A life event can change the direction of our lives, affecting our personal development. Some major changes in life can be predicted and even chosen, while others may be unpredicted. Predictable life events, such as starting school, going through puberty and retiring from work, often mark a transition from one stage of life to another, acting as milestones in our personal development. Unpredictable life events, such as sudden illness or injury, redundancy or the death of a friend or relative, occur unexpectedly and are often associated with loss, but may also lead to positive change in our lives. • 3. America s Superpower When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, the United States became the world s sole superpower (Weiner). It is vital for The United states to act its part as the world superpower and continue to help govern and protect developing and recovering countries. As the world s only superpower we are given the opportunity to either stand by and watch as millions of people die from acts of terror and corruption, or use our immense political, economical, and military power to help save, and better the world and the lives of potentially billions of people. It is important America acts as a whole now more than ever, these following years of action or inaction of the US in the middle east can and will affect not only the US but countries around the world. ... Syria may seem far away, but every passing day, every calamitous, explosive, hate infused day, makes it more America s and the world s problem (Ghitis). Everyday more and more people are being displaced out of their homes and land because of war and terrorist acts posed by ISIS and the corrupt governments like Syria. These injustices imposed by these groups spread and will eventually effect of the world in action is not taken now. As seen by (Ghitis) again when he shows Millions of Syrians have fled their homes, straining resources and occasionally raining fire into Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and even Israel. These millions of displaced refugees hurt surrounding countries and have forced them to even put up border lines and gates preventing these refugees from flooding their countries. This inflicts great stress and problems to these countries. Countries like Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq, because they are now having to increase security spending and take care of millions of homeless people who are starving and dying of injuries or disease that they just do not have the supplies to help. • 4. Masculinity In The Blind Side The movie that I chose to write about is the 2009 movie, The Blind Side. It is a film about a young African American male, nicknamed Big Mike who is basically homeless and struggles in school. Michael grew up in a very bad neighborhood and was taken away from his mother at the age of 7, who is a crackhead and is described as promiscuous with lots of kids. We see the character depiction difference in the very scene when Leigh Anne goes to visit Michael s mother, Denise. She is dark skinned, disheveled and her apartment or housed is a complete mess. This is the total opposite of what Leigh Anne is, which is organized, neat and clean, well dressed and who s house is big, beautiful and clean. We then learn that Denise doesn t even remember who his father is. Michael is in and out of foster homes because he keeps running back to his mother although he doesn t live with her. Deviant black masculinity that might appear threatening to the white community is then confined to real and imaginary ghettos. (Montes de Oca pg136) At one point when a woman who investigates with the NCAA even questions the absurd situation and although she doesn t say it, she s probably seeing it as being saved by a white savior as well, except that her reasons are all wrong. • 5. Action Potential Analysis In our brain we have neurons that communicate every second of the day with one other through their dendrite and axons. Most of the time incoming signals are received in the dendrites and outgoing signals travel down the axon to the nerve terminal. For the neuron to receive the rapid communication due to the long axon, the neuron sends electrical signals, from the cell s body to the nerve terminal. This process is known as nerve impulses, or action potential. Brain neurons can transmit signals using a flow of sodium(Na+) and potassium (K+) ions, that produces an electrical spike called an action potential (AP) (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). Action potential is essentially a slight reversal of electric polarity across the membrane. When an action potential takes place, the sodium potassium pump resets the way sodium and potassium ions were back to their original positions. The sodium potassium does this to the neuron so when it is then ready to relay another action potential, it will pump when called upon to do so. The Na+/K+ pump has a housekeeping role rather than a direct role in brain signaling (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). For an action potential to be generated the membrane voltage must be strong enough to bring the membrane voltage to a critical value called the threshold. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the action potential is near its peak, sodium channels begin to close which then allows the potassium channels to fully open. Potassium ions rush out of the cell and the voltage quickly returns to its original resting state. This corresponds to the falling phase of the action potential. Sodium and potassium at this point have switched places across the membrane and the resting membrane potential is then slowly restored due to diffusion and the sodium potassium pump. Without the process of the sodium potassium pump and the action potential, our nerve cells will not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since people can think about God in their mind, God s existence should be justified. The Kite Runner Marxist Lense Paper In the book The Kite Runner, original social status is proven to create barriers in life regarding the aspects of friendship, mindset, and adaptation to change as we observe Baba s and Amir s life journeys in order to discover how it affects these aspects. Amir s friendship with his hazara servant s son Hassan takes a sudden toll as he ultimately comes to believe that traditional and historical beliefs outweighed true friendship as he was a young child. Amir then proceeds to cut off the relationships between himself and Hassan, I actually aspired to cowardice, but the real reason I was running, was that Asseff was right. Nothing was free in this world. Maybe Hassan was the price I had to pay, the lamb I had to slay to win Baba. Was it a fair price? The answer floated to my conscious mind before I could thwart it: He was just a Hazara. Wasn t he? Amir did it because the traditional and historical beliefs were more important than friendship. This action displays how being born in a different social class can outweigh all feelings of love and friendship with one of a different social group. As the war in Afghanistan begins, Baba and Amir flee to America where they went from being at the top of the social pyramid, to starting again at the very bottom. Baba s mindset however, remains the same throughout his whole life. • 9. Role Of Global Macro Strategy On A Defined Benefit Pension... Article: CFA Society Toronto The Analyst Writer Irfan Chaudhry Portfolio Manager TAHO Capital The Role of Global Macro Strategy in a Defined Benefit Pension Portfolio In the last five years, the funded status of an average Canadian pension fund improved from 65% to almost 90% because of one of the longest stock market rallies and interest rate stabilization. Pension plans still remain largely exposed to the significant and unpredictable volatility of interest rates and market risk as shown in the drop in interest rates in 2013/2014 and the stock market correction in 2011. It is urgent for pension funds to mitigate these risks in a maturing market. Interest rate risk can be mitigated by increasing fixed income allocation, cash flow immunization, a derivative strategy based on taking an interest rate view for which they are not qualified, changing plan structure which may result in a lower payoff to pensioners or higher contributions from plan sponsors or by transferring portions of liabilities to an insurance company through an annuity transaction. A going concern pension plan will require the returns enhancement even after the implementation of some of these risk mitigation measures because of un modeled liabilities and uncertain assumptions. Even bigger is the market risk as correlation of asset classes in a multi asset pension fund portfolio turns to one at the time of crisis. This undercuts diversification as portfolio construction logic. The pension funds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ethical Considerations In the issue of poor employee retention research is definitely a good way to figure out what the issues are and how to combat them. There are however, ethical matters that should be considered during the research process. Making sure that employees confidentiality is kept during the process is very important, also you want to make sure that race is not involved. It is also important to make sure that the results do not interfere with the employees that are currently employed within the company. My wonder at how a high schooler could have grey hair was lost as the group let out over the top laughter of a joke I hadn t heard. My attempt to join their discussion had failed as it had every attempt before that. The close bond my male counterparts on the robotics team were developing was resistant to female intrusion, and I often found myself on the outskirts of the group staring bemusedly at the back of someone s head as back slaps and exotic handshakes were exchanged. More often than not what kept me out of these groups were the topics up for discussion. They could range anywhere from techniques for machining cubes on lathes ... The mechanical side of building was romanticized for the boys, while the girls struggled to participate in planning and discussions. In a fit of frustration I googled voltage transformers in a vague attempt to find a site to nicely explain what it was, but stopped when I saw microwave transformer in one of the suggested searches. I slowly smiled and searched craigslist. A couple hours later my parents watched in stunned silence as I lugged an old microwave up the porch steps. My childish glee was quickly dispelled as I I surveyed the complex machine in front of me. Extracting what I needed from it would be no small task. I grabbed a variety of tools that had not been touched in decades and began prying the plastic frame. Taking out screws rusted over by years of filth and moisture was physically daunting, and I slaved for hours in the hot summer sun before finally revealing the microwave s electronic innards. Cinema of Attractions vs Narrative Cinema This essay will discuss both the Cinema of Attractions and Narrative Cinema and their origins in order to better understand the differences found between them in regards to the criteria to follow. This essay will highlight the role that the spectator plays, and the temporality that both the Cinema of Attractions and Narrative Cinema exhibit. Tom Gunning proposed the Continuity Model in order to better understand the beginning of film and the making of film. Gunning proposes the following assumptions: Firstly, the evolutionary assumption, in which film is considered to have developed linearly across time as more development occurs. Secondly, the cinematic assumption theorises that film only truly came to being through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Méliès was one of the first directors to progress cinematic technology, which paved the way for narratives as style of film (Leveridge, 2012: 98). Cinema after 1906, according to Gunning, pushed towards the structure of linear narrative, and away from the immediacy of the spectacular image (Strauven, 1999: 387). Paradigms and their relation to the Spectator The Cinema of Attractions is based on an exhibitionist paradigm (Gunning, 2004: 44), where it seeks to knowingly addressing the spectator and provide its spectator with a series of views or selective information (Strauven, 1999: 49). The cinema of attractions existed primarily between the years 1895 and 1906 (Strauven, 1999: 38). Cinema of Attractions is concerned with the ability to display. Attractions wanted to show the here and now , interacting with its spectator with the aim of satisfying the audience s curiosity quickly (Gunning, 2004: 44). It displays current events, scenes form everyday life, composed scenes, vaudeville performances and also camera tricks (as pioneered by George Méliès). Cinema of Attractions aims to astonish its audience (Strauven, 1999: 50). through displaying, rather than amusing its audience through narrative content. This is seen in films such as G. Méliès L homme orchestre (One Man Band) (1900), or his L homme à la tête de caoutchouc (The Man With The Rubber Head) (1901) where the actor(s) constantly address the camera/spectator and the audience is ... Besides being people that I personally look up to, these are all activists for education around the world. As someone who has been fortunate enough to have gone through school in such an excellent district, I have seen the impact that an excellent education can have on a child. This is why I firmly believe that education is the strongest asset that any generation can have to succeed. In recent years, the United States has fallen behind other countries in education. While we might not be seeing the immediate effects right now, but unless we make education more accessible and comparable to other countries curriculum, Americans will fall behind in the global market. This is because by the teenage years, it is much harder for the human brain to learn a second language. Medea A Misogynist Due to modern perceptions, Euripides is often interpreted as a feminist; however, the way that he wrote female characters, specifically Medea, proves that he is not a feminist and therefore a misogynist. This is evident because of the intentional way he villainized her. Many people see Euripides as a feminist because they look at Medea through a modern point of view. There are no records on Euripides stance on women, so in order to get a better understanding of his intention with Medea, she should be looked through the eyes of the intended audience which would have been a greek man. Euripides intentionally makes Medea unattractive to the male audience. He does this is by painting Medea as a typical woman who has been betrayed by her husband in order to gain the audience s pity and make her relatable. Once he has gained the audiences pity, he flips the script and turns Medea into someone the audience views as a monster. He uses a couple of different tactics to achieve this goal. He uses the Nurse s opening speech and Medeas cries of anguish to gain the audiences pity. • 31. The Human Skin Your skin is the body s first defense mechanism. A barrier against pathogens and water loss, the human epidermis undergoes a constant renewal process called cornification, as old dead skin cells, corneocytes, are shed and replaced by cells from the layers below to maintain constant protection. A defect in the skin barrier could develop various skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis. The most common form of eczema, atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin condition characterized by inflammation and itchy, dry patches of skin. Although no cause has been determined, researchers focus on studying genetic abnormalities and influences on a defective epidermal barrier (Sajic, Asiniwasis, Skotnicki Grant, 2012). Mutations in the filaggrin gene, with environmental factors that further damage the skin s protective barrier, are one of many aspects contributing to the cracked skin and inflammation of atopic dermatitis. Filaggrin is an important protein in cornification that contributes to the strength and moisture of the stratum corneum, or topmost layer of the skin, through formation of the cornified envelope and maintenance of the natural moisturizing factor. The precursor to filaggrin is profilaggrin, a protein in keratohyalin F granules at the granular epidermal layer. As the granular cells transition to the stratum corneum during cornification, serine activated proteases proteotypically cleave profilaggrin into filaggrin peptides (McLean Irvine, 2012). • 32. Difference Between New England And The Chesapeake Colonies The difference between the colonies of New England and the Chesapeake region were many. First, they settlers who immigrated to the new world had different reasons for doing so. For the Chesapeake colonies, including Virginia and Maryland, profit was the aim. After the introduction of tobacco to Europe by Columbus at the end of the fifteenth century, there was a large and steadily growing demand for the crop. Investors in England decided to set up colonies in the Americas for the purpose of growing and profiting from tobacco. On the other hand, the colonies of New England were set up primarily for religious reasons. Although there were some that sought profit in New England, most settlers sought liberty and freedom of worship. English separatists, who vehemently disagreed with the way the Church of England was set up, left Holland and came to America on the Mayflower. They landed in modern Massachusetts and established the Plymouth Colony. Rhode Island was also founded on a religious basis after Roger Williams and his fellow dissenters were exiled from Massachusetts. It became a haven for Quakers, Jews, Baptists and members of other minority religions. A second difference in the colonies of the Chesapeake and of New England comes in the basis of their economies. As mentioned above, Virginia was founded in order to grow tobacco. Maryland s foremost crop was also tobacco. Also, the way tobacco was cultivated was important to the Chesapeake colonies.
