Nuclear Power Plant Safety Systems
Topic 1 Nuclear Power Plant Safety Systems IAEA Synopsis: In 1956, 81 member nations
unanimously approved The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Statute, the guiding
document for the creation of this committee. The objective of the statue stated that the Agency shall
seek to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health and prosperity
throughout the world. It shall ensure, so far as it is able, that assistance provided by it or at its request
or under its supervision or control is not used in such a way as to further any military purpose. As
such, the IAEA was established in 1957 to respond to global fears about the potential dangers of
nuclear energy. Since its creation, the IAEA has responded to a wide variety of issues related to atomic
energy. At the time of its creation, the primary fear was that nuclear power could be an avenue to
create and use nuclear weapons. Indeed, this is still a concern today. Of late, the IAEA has focused on
ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants. Various safety system failures in nuclear power plants
calls for the revision of the current safety standards and approaches for maintain the safety of nuclear
power sources. One such event that caused this shift in focus was the Fukushima accident in 2011.

How Did Dmitri Mendeleev Show Honor
Honor means to hold with high respect or esteem. My view of honor is to give respect to those who
deserve it. Dmitri Mendeleev, the creator of the first periodic table, is one of those who deserve the
respect honor has to offer. Dmitri Mendeleev was born February 8, 1834. When he was young, his
father went blind and couldn t work. Since his father couldn t work, his mother re opened the glass
factory that his father owned. When he was 13, his father died. Then, the glass factory burned down
when he was 15. Mendeleev had trained as both an academic chemist and a teacher at his father s old
college, partly because the college had known his father. He suffered from Tuberculosis at 20 and had
to work mostly from his bed. When he graduated, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It made finding the elements easier and it was able to be altered for the better of the science
community. His table was able to accurately predict the missing elements in his chart. Mendeleev was
very successful in his scientific career after he created the periodic table and is most famous for that
discovery. Mendeleev s periodic table had some flaws, but he used his periodic table to: Propose that
some of the elements, whose behavior did not agree with his predictions, must have had their atomic
weights measured incorrectly. Predict the existence of eight new elements. Mendeleev even predicted
the properties these elements would have. Later it was found that Dmitri did measure some atomic
properties incorrectly. Dmitri Mendeleev s discovery of the periodic table fulfilled the criteria for
honor worthy. His discovery is honor worthy because the science world would be having a hard time
today if it wasn t for his work in chemistry. All in all, Dmitri Mendeleev is honor worthy because he
made the science world more organized and was unbiased while doing so. Works Cited Dmitri

New Beauty Authority Jean Kilbourne Summary
Killing Us Softly 4: Advertising s Image of Women (Kilbourne) shows a startling reminder of how
advertisement has influenced our views of women, men, and ourselves. Jean Kilbourne explains how
advertisements use images, body language, fantasy, and text to entice the audience. An advertisement
in New Beauty magazine for a new weight loss technique depicts a woman fearlessly looking at
herself in the mirror (ZELTIQ Aesthetics, Inc. 43). American Rifleman endorses a paintball gun in one
of their advertisements, using a woman dressed in a barely there Santa dress (Dillion Prcision 98). In
her documentary, Jean Kilbourne addresses how the images in advertisements have impacted women,
men, girls, and boys. New Beauty: The Beauty Authority, is a ... Show more content on

The woman is what is often referred to as a blonde bombshell . She has long blonde hair, tan skin, and
seems to embody the athletic model appearance. She is wearing black, six inch stiletto heels. Her dress
is a red, halter top with white trim, and black belt, to resemble a Santa suit. Her dress stops at the very
top of her thighs. At her feet is a brown box with a red ribbon. The woman is holding a green bow, one
loop in each hand, which is attached to a shiny, blue paintball gun. The woman is smiling in a way that
makes her seem docile at first but then inviting.
The fantasy that this Dillion Precision article invokes is pretty evident. If you are a man with an
interest in guns and women, then what could be a better gift than an attractive woman with a new
paintball gun? This advertisement also draws on love and romance; this could be somebody s ideal
relationship. The woman looks distinctly submissive and eager to please.
The company s jingle for the holiday season is: Have a Dillion Christmas! , which is written is bold,
yellow letters at the top of the Advertisement (Dillion Prcision). Down at the bottom in yellow and
white letters, the company requests the reader to visit their website URL, to order the catalog (Dillion

Evolution By Natural Selection By Charles Darwin
Evolution by natural selection, proposed by Charles Darwin in 1859, requires a population to have
three necessities. These include variation, which leads to differences in fitness, and a form of heredity
for this variation (Bourrat 2014). Natural selection acts solely by accumulating slight, successive, and
favorable variations and cannot produce great or sudden modifications because it can act only by very
short and slow steps (Darwin 1859). Nevertheless, there are always numerous potential selective
pressures in nature that limit a population s evolution and fitness like predation. Plants form the
foundation on which communities and ecosystems are assembled and which food webs are created.
Accordingly, the understanding of factors that establish plant distribution, abundance is essential for
our understanding of ecology at large. As major constituents of most ecosystems and chronic agents of
plant damage, consumers have great potential to heavily impact plant abundance and distribution
(Maron and Crone 2006). Particularly, herbivore populations like Eurosta solidaginis typically sustain
heavy attacks from tortuous arrays of natural enemies (Bergman and Tingey 1979). They frequently
encounter parasitoid wasps and avian predators, which impact the survival of the gallmakers. If a
survivorship varies among gallmakers with different traits, natural enemy attacks can potentially alter
their traits in later generations (Warren et al. 1989). Based upon other experiments

The Government Effect On Protests Demonstrations Protests
The Government Effect On The Protests
Protests have numerous factors that affect the result of the protest and one major
element is the government. In the 1960 s some protests were brutal due to
discrimination; yet, the largest protest achieved to maintain a safe environment because
the government respected and allowed the protests. The March on Washington for Jobs
and Freedom in 1963 peacefully gathered approximately 250,000 citizens together to
protest the high level of black unemployment, minimal wages African Americans received
for jobs, poor job mobility, and continuous racial segregation. In contrast, The Gezi
Park Protests in Turkey, Taksim in 2013 got out of control due to the government response to
the initial 50 environmentalists who opposed to cutting the trees and building a shopping mall
instead. The government used police force brutally against the activists and as a result,
approximately 3.5 million protesters right to freely voice their dissatisfaction and use the
media was constrained. So, even though today, overall technology and cities have
improved excessively, Turkey is still facing an immense pressure and constraint from
the government during protests compare to the protests fifty years ago in Washington
D.C.
In every country, protecting its citizens rights is the government s fundamental duty
in order to maintain the peace and unity. But in Turkey, citizens rights were violated
because the government used its

The Link Between English Reading And Mathematics
I noted that historically, any link between English reading (Arts) and Mathematics skills (Science)
seems to have been at best a tenuous one. The issue brought into the public domain by C P Snow
(Rede Lecture 1959) where he claimed: The two cultures (Arts and Science) stare at each other with
mutual hostility and dislike... If this state of affairs was reflected in educational establishments of that
time the likelihood of any meaning full cooperation between those engaging in the teaching of reading
comprehension and mathematics would seem to be very remote indeed.
Thankfully, changes in opinion did occur over time and by the 1990 s interest in children s maths
skills also led to an increase in research into the association between ... Show more content on

He subsequently explains that it is the format for instruction that presents the difficulty. He
demonstrates if a given task is to calculate a mathematical problem and information is presented as
numbers with operational signs sequenced appropriately, children who understand algorithms can
proceed with ease. However, when the mathematical task to answer includes information that is
presented at the outset in words and sentences, pupils must first comprehend the text before they can
use the appropriate algorithmic skill. Obviously then even the best maths students cannot solve
problems they don t fully understand. Fuentes (1998) maintains the narrative of mathematical
problems tends to be compacted where mathematical concepts and relationships are often hidden,
implied or assumed and the pupil is left to expand and extract the true meaning. This is in marked
contrast to the narrative of storybooks which tends to be expansive and elaborate. In addition he notes
that the ambiguity found in the interpretation of for example, a poem may well be applauded however
any ambiguity in maths text interpretation simply means failure.
From research I have encountered thus far I must agree that good reading comprehension is essential
for interpreting mathematical texts. Baker (1995) and Christen and Murphy

Mount Everest Pros And Cons
Nepal has eight of the 14 highest mountains in the world, including Mount Everest
Nepalese authorities say that the number of visitors to Sagarmatha National Park, where Everest lies,
has roughly tripled in the past 20 years. With the increasing number of tourists comes a growing
amount of rubbish left behind on mountains: food wrappers, climbing gear, oxygen cylinders, and
even the bodies of climbers who died along the way. The frigid temperatures mean trash does not
biodegrade.
Over the past six decades, an estimated 50 tons of trash has been left on Mount Everest, giving it the
nickname the world s highest garbage dump. Mountaineering associations have complained about the
growing number of inexperienced climbers leaving their garbage behind in an attempt to save the
energy they need to reach the summit or return to base camp alive.
Famous climbers such as Reinhold Messner have said Mount Everest has been trivialized, calling for
Nepal to close off access to the mountain for a handful of years to allow it to recover.
New clean up rules
Now Nepal s tourism ministry has acted, deciding that from this April forward, every climber going
beyond the base camp will be required to bring back at least eight kilograms (17.6 pounds) of their
personal waste and hand it over to officials stationed there. That s the amount the government
estimates an exhausted climber discards along the way. The aim is to make sure that no new trash will
be left on Everest.

The Issue Of Simmering California
Simmering California In a recent survey by the University of Southern California nearly 75 percent of
voter state that relations between people of different races were good or excellent in their own
neighborhoods (Abrams). Yet these same participants agree that black men and woman face more
discrimination than any other race. Though racial discrimination in California has mitigated
considerably over the years it is still a major problem. The peak of racial tensions occurred early on in
California s past. The Gold rush was a difficult time for immigrants in California. Many came in
search of prosperity and instead found a place full of rules and regulations specifically designed to
place them at a disadvantage. The many Chinese immigrants arriving at this time faced extreme
racism. insert lisa see quote here Many Chinese miners had to pay unbelievable foreign mining taxes
on top of having to mine mostly in abandoned mining grounds. To make ends meet they took on jobs
as cooks, launders, and other jobs. They were paid low wages and had to face discriminatory hiring
practices. The sudden flood of people caused tensions between the natives and the miners to rise.
Miners were invading and destroying native lands. Out of desperation, the Native Americans began
pillaging mining camps for supplies. Incensed by the raids, miners began to hunt down the indigenous
population and were often time supported by the government. The situation never really improved
since then. In

Single Sex School Essay
Does your child s education matter to you? I believe single sex schools are better than co education
schools. My reasons behind this opinion are single sex schooling has less distraction in class, single
sex schools have better learning results and lastly boys and girls in a same sex environment are more
likely to pursue subjects they usually would not try.
Single sex schools have less distractions in class. I believe this because in a single sex environment
boys do not feel the need to impress girls and girls would not have to downplay their strengths to
impress boys. The first example to backup my point is a study by the Australian Council for
Educational Research where they said research indicates that single sex schools improve ... Show

A second example to help argue my point is when United Kingdom educator Graham Able compared
student performance in 30 single sex and co educational schools, he found the academic advantage of
single sex schooling even greater for boys. This evidence shows that single sex is the better school
option for learning and getter better academic results, especially if your child is a boy. Single sex
schooling is the better choice when selecting your child s future school specially when you are looking
for the best possible education.
In single sex schools boys and girls excel in subjects they usually would not. Single sex schools help
children do well in subjects they usually would not be good at or subjects they would not usually try.
For example girls do better at maths and science in all girl schools; boys do better in languages and the
arts in all boy schools. My first example to backup my point is a study by Cambridge University in
2006 where their research showed boys improved in english and foreign languages in single sex
classes, and girls improved in maths and physics. This proves girls and boys do better in subjects they
usually would not do because they are more comfortable in a single sex school rather than a co
educational school. A second piece of evidence to help argue my point is a United States study that
found boys at single sex

The Effects And Effects Of The Industrial Revolution...
the Victorian years, some of the main characteristics we think of the industrial revolution and the
effects during the Victorian period. In this assignment I m going to explain the impact that the
industrial revolution had on people in
There are three main characteristics of the industrial revolution which most people would think of first
which are urbanization, suburb slums and agricultural revolution.
Urbanization is when people move from small towns and the countryside to live in cities for more job
opportunities. It developed to many people living in overcrowded houses, which lead to social classes
being organized into geographical zones. So, the working classes and under classes lived in the inner
city and the middle and upper classes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the seed drill which is a machine that was able to plant seeds deeper and in regular rows,
and using the method of a crop rotation which is when crops were rotated on three fields instead of
two this kept soil fertile, so more crops could grow.
There were many effects during the industrial revolution some were economic, and some were social.
One of the economic effects was the leisure industry. Using new technology and transportation many
people were able to travel more using the national railway networks, people were able to travel for
days out to the seaside for a cheap fare and so many business people started to run hotels for mainly
the middle class to go for holidays. There were many places people could go for leisure like the
Vauxhall pleasure gardens it was a place for all to go to escape reality it had a small entrance fee, but
it was a place for all social classes to mix and socialise. With all these new places and businesses there
was more opportunities for regular and full time employment. Victorian leisure became a popular
culture in Britain and its modernization under the boost of the industrial revolution. As industrialism
and urban growth began to grind down traditional patterns of rural life. Music halls became very
popular by the 1800 s and succeeded as a prototype modern entertainment industry . The middle class
had more options of leisure than the working class as they had

Essay on cultrual cultural deprivation the hispanic...
Cultural Deprivation: The Hispanic Challenge nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; Why do some groups not
succeed in academic settings? One theory brought up in Understanding inequality suggests that the
gap in the socioeconomic status drives the inequalities in the school system. The low and working
class have less time and income to intervene with schooling. This means they have less time to meet
with teachers, hire tutors, and provide continuous transportation. Therefore the lower class can t
possibly compete with the middle and upper classes. Angela Valenzuela gives the accounts of some
Hispanic students experiences in school. These students feel that it is the inferior nature of the schools

According to Huntington, unlike previous immigrants, Hispanics wish to retain a dual culture. This
presents them with the culture clash of two varying views on culture as well as education. There are
several factors that have made this culture of immigrants assimilations so much different than the past
immigrants that America has so fondly welcomed with open arms. These include contiguity, scale
illegality regional concentration, persistence and historical presence. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The
fact that the US shares such a large boarder with Mexico is enhanced by the great economic
differences on each side. The income gap between the United States and Mexico is the largest between
any two contiguous countries in the world (Huntington). The incentive to immigrate is obvious, and
allows Latinos to remain in contact with their family and friends while making a living in the US.
Because the passage between these boarders is so accessible, it has lead to immigration on a grand
scale. The persistence of Hispanics in migrating has lead to having Mexicans account for nearly half
of all immigration to the US and has changed Mexican s standing from the minority to the majority in
many areas. This regional concentration has slowed assimilation because dispersal is essential for this
to take place. An example of regional concentration slowing this process down to almost a halt is in

Why Do People Use Personal Stereos
Bull also states that The belief that urban subjects are subjects in retreat has become a core
explanatory frame work or everyday urban environment experienced as being inhabited by strangers
and hence dangerous. This is typical of visual explanations of urban behaviour that locate motivation
completely in terms of supposed responses to the environment. (Bull 2000, p.137) this links very well
to the idea of people using their personal stereos as a way to block others out. When travelling on
public transport you are in a way trapped in a small place with strangers as the quote states. I would
like to see if this is why so many people use their headphones and personal stereos as a barrier to

The Theme Of Paranoia In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time
Beyond the elements of any story, there is always a reevaluation about life or central characters.
Theme always includes a statement upon the notation of abstract qualities through the embodiment of
the writer. As presented in Once Upon a Time, the central insight to the plot suffices to the crude
development of the character who overcompensates the emotion of paranoia, executed by the natural
dangers of the outside world. Author Nadine Gordimer generalizes the concept of the psychosis based
on the parallelism between the fear of the character to the fear of the mother in her dream. Notably,
she illustrates the gruesome reality of human nature, that she echoes the subconscious mind to her
bedtime story.
Granted under the idea of theme, the escapades of Once Upon a Time adds on to the primary purpose
of distressed emotion. Gordimer unifies the human nature of fear to her story based on the personal
experience of herself at home. For instance, ..I was reading every faintest sound, identifying and
classifying its possible threat (Gordimer 231). With this in mind, we can correlate to the theme of
society countervailing the excessive obsession of pessimism. As a result, she attentively entices the
audience through her vision of a practical utopian civilization. Exclaiming, There were riots, but these
were outside the city where people of another color were quartered. These people were not allowed in
the suburb.... (Gordimer 232). For this reason, we can infer all her

Coleridge s Brilliant Views of Life
In Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner the audience will be indulged into an enduring tale.
As old as the poem is, it can be surprising that the popularity has withheld if not risen. The
contradictions that detailed throughout the poem lead the audience through a series of the supernatural
and large disbelief. Thus, Without someone to explain these accounts in person, the interpretation is
left up to the audience. One might be caught in the same thoughts as the wedding guest when reading

These personifications used by Coleridge are not unheard of; however, they act as a guideline to
describe the inanimate and animate. An Albatross is a truly living creature in comparison to an

by granting life to the inanimate and death to the animate. Shortly, after the death of the Albatross the
extraordinary bad luck of the sailors changes for the better, and they now capable of navigating

Understand Two Types Of Succession, Primary, Secondary And...
In order to answer this question we must first understand what succession is. There are two types of
succession, primary, and secondary. Primary is when there is no life on a landform such as an empty
island, and there was no community on that island before the succession. Secondary succession is
where the community that was on the island is now being removed, and that there is a recovering of
the population after the succession has occurred. One of the important things to remember about
secondary succession is that it is typically faster because the soil is already present and plants may still
be buried under the soil, and thus can grow faster then if they weren t there. Now that we understand
what secondary succession is we can learn about

The Cloud Service Providers Should Address The Still Open...
C RYPTOGRAPHY T ECHNIQUES
The cloud service providers should address the still open cloud security problems in order to
encourage users to use this technology. The most important concerns are confidentiality, integrity and
availability. In a complex and non transparent system like cloud computing, it is difficult for a user to
even determine what kind of security measures are implemented in the cloud. This section presents
Cryptography, as one of the security measure that can be implemented.
Cryptography techniques are defined as methods that protect the data by changing the format of the
data, such that it can not be understood by unauthorized users. The objectives of cryptography are [9]:
1) Confidentiality
This is the service that makes sure that the data is accessed by the owner of the data and not allow
unauthorized to access the data.
1) Resource Location
As the data is stored at an unknown location, the client is unaware of the problems when there is a
dispute and is not in the control of the cloud service provider. The data stored by the cloud service
providers is not only under the policies of the service provider but are also affected by the countries
legislation policies where the data is stored. This makes the service providers hand over sensitive
information in accordance to the countries law and its law enforcement requests. If someone subpoena
the data stored then the service provider has to hand over that data without any consent from the
owner of the data.

Fan Fiction Character Appropriation
Fan fiction and character appropriation
Fan Fiction is a transformative practice of writing fiction created by fans based on existing source
work or consists of elements copied from a story world, character or setting, the original source of the
work being expanded can include any qualified material such as novels, films, comics or games. Legal
implications arise due to the contemplation whether it is an infringement of copyright as a derivative
work . Authors generally have a varied opinion on fan fiction, some downright loath the practice,
where as some consider it unimaginative yet unconcerned by it and some compliment it. The creator
of the original work rarely authorises or commissions fan fiction and it is very unlikely to receive
publishing. It has long existed as a fan practice, although since the internet s inception it has amplified
exponentially and has evolved into a much more elaborate exercise, with various classifications, style
and sub genres. The legal issues surrounding fan fiction are in dispute of whether they are derivative
works infringing Copyright Law, for these stories are usually transformative of an original
copyrighted literary works.
Fair use is a common defence against infringement claims, or in Australia fair dealings may similarly
constitute defence, though fair use isn t entirely secure for fan fiction, despite many maintaining its
legality due to its non profit nature. Lucasfilm Ltd have always accepted fan fiction that respects the

Theme Of In My Father s House By Ernest Gaines
Introduction
Throughout his public writing, Ernest Gaines has been consistently asked about the themes of his
novels and short stories. Because of his desire to express Black manhood, interviewers and critics
have recognized Gaines as a current fiction voice for
African American men. In a 1990 interview with Marcia Gaudet, Gaines addressed this trend, saying,
.I think I know more about the black male because I am male myself. I know something about his
dreams. I listened to them when I was a kid growing up, I.ve drunk with him, I.ve been in the army
and athletics I know what men dream about. All men dream about certain things. All men have hopes..

and expands to include the dreams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Gaines is quick to admit that the novel had been ..kicking my ass for ten years.. (Tooker

As a child on the plantation and ancestor of slaves, Gaines experienced firsthand the struggles of
fathers and sons because of slavery. This conflict, seen in In My Father s
House, was a subject Gaines knew he had to approach. Eventually, Gaines decided to model his book
after a Greek tragedy. Like the characters of Greek tragedies, Phillip
Martin is a great man who falls and must get himself back up. Although Gaines devoted much time to
the novel, and approached a subject that has disturbed him, he still does not like to talk about or read
from the novel. In an interview with Mary Doyle, Gaines says,
..That book is a hard one for me to talk about. I don t ever read from it when I go to colleges and
universities. It is a book that I had to write because I was haunted by the idea. It cost me more time
and pain than any book I ve written. (162). Gaines s
audience s reaction to the novel is similar to the pain Gaines experienced while creating the characters.
The story reminds his audience that a man is more than a father. He is

A Report On The Price Of The Dollar
Following the Brexit vote on the 23rd of June 2016, the pound fell to 31 year low against the dollar,
falling from $1.50 to $1.33 in a matter of hours. The sharp devaluation of the pound against the dollar
made AB InBev s all cash offer unattractive to SAB s shareholders, who were to be compensated in
sterling, and made the partial share alternative a lot more attractive. Therefore, SAB stakeholders,
excluding Altria and BevCo, rejected the offer, threatening to drop the deal.
Eventually, after strenuous negotiations, on the 25th of July AB s board agreed to raise the offer once

The Pros And Cons Of Air Pollution
Imagine the world around us different than how it would be now. Less safe and more risk for diseases.
People are finding it harder and harder to breathe the toxic air. It is becoming more unbearable each
day. Arctic sea levels have risen. Gas prices are at an all time high due to oil no longer being as easy to
grasp. The world we live in is dark, gloomy, and filled with a life that is worrisome for us, and our
future children. It is no longer livable for mankind, but how do we avoid such a troublesome future?
What is some sort of solution to help the future of mankind to provide clean air not just for us, but for
future generations? One simple solution to prevent this sad future is purchasing an electric vehicle
rather than a gasoline vehicle. According to the union of concerned scientists in 2013, transportation
contributed to more than half of the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the
hydrocarbons emitted into our air. This air pollution carries significant risks for human health and the
environment. Through clean vehicle and fuel technologies, we can significantly reduce air pollution
from our cars and trucks, while cutting projected U.S oil use in half within the next 20 years. Due to
such high gasoline prices, the electric vehicles market has grown drastically in the past couple years.
Electric cars are quiet, more energy efficient, save you money, and have zero emissions rather than a
gasoline car. Therefore, I support the investment of an

Effects Of Group Counseling For Adolescent Immigrants
Group Counseling for Adolescent Immigrants
One of the most important factors of immigration is, in most of the times, the difficult process of
acculturation. This process can be difficult as a person has to adopt the new culture and social
standards. Therefore, immigrants, in general, can experience many stressors, such as discrimination,
lack of financial resources, language inadequacy, disorientation, and many more. The result of all of
the effect of those stressors in a person is called Acculturative Stress (Cite Acculturative Stress,
Anxiety... Hovey, Joseph). In the case of adolescents, they are all living through a period in life that
involves psychological and physical development. During this stage, they are also finding their true
self and identity (Cite Group therapy on the edge).
Many families coming from another country, looking for better opportunities, often come with
adolescents, which means that they will also experience the difficult process of acculturation. Some of
the many factors that can affect adolescent immigrants are discrimination, due to their new social
status as immigrants and because they are part of a racial/ethnic minority, and insecurity based on lack
of language proficiency. One of the predictors of depressive symptoms is the experience of being
discriminated, which can contribute to a negative perception of the adolescent s ethnic group. Also,
adolescents lack of language skills can have a negative effect by decreasing their self esteem

Benefits Of A Quality Retirement Plan
A quality retirement plan can help companies retain top talent and attract highly skilled new
employees to offset the talent loss that comes with an aging workforce.
According to Scott Boyd, SVP, National Platform Distribution and Relationships and head of
Healthcare Solutions for Prudential Retirement, in Hartford, Connecticut. Plan sponsors and their
providers or advisors when discussing retirement plan design tend to have conversations about plan
costs instead, they should consider the more implicit costs of employees not being able to retire.
Boyd tells Plansponsor that it costs employers an estimated $8,500 per year per person and year due to
increased health care and benefits costs and lost productivity. In addition, a lack of mobility for middle
managers may cause them to leave for competitors which could cost anywhere from 100 percent to
300 percent in salary to replace them. The implicit costs can be bigger than what plan sponsors spend
on their retirement plans, Boyd says.
Prudential trademarked a service it now offers calls DC Optimization. This new product is a process
that now provides plan sponsors with information from defined contribution (DC) actuaries to help
them design an efficient retirement plan that supports their organizations business objectives. Whether
that be containing overall business costs, increasing employee participation in a retirement plan or
attracting and retaining the right talent.

Abstract
Two crab species, Plagusia and Cyclograpsus, were collected from a local estuary in the littoral and
deep water zone for osmoregulation studies. To examine differences in osmoregulatory mechanisms
among the species, haemolymph of the specimens was extracted once they were acclimated to varying
concentrations of seawater. Using the comparative melting point, capillary tubes were filled with small
samples of seawater and blood then frozen and melted in a 15˚C ethanol bath. The melting time of
each was observed thereafter. Subject s time range fell over 17 minutes of which the majority of the

The fourteen collected samples of fluid included distilled water (0% seawater/ionic concentration),
25%, 50%, 75% and 100% seawater; 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% seawater in Cyclograpsus
blood; and 60%, 70%, 80% and 100% seawater in Plagusia blood. 1.0 mm bore capillary tubes were
cleaned and dried. Approximately 3.0 mm of each fluid was drawn into 14 different tubes, and gently
tapped to ensure the fluid was moved to the middle of the tubes. The tubes were marked and sealed
using Vaseline, then placed strictly in an adjacent parallel order, using Vaseline as an anchor, across a
capillary level holder. Dry ice was carefully placed on the capillary tubes to freeze the fluid in the
capillary tubes.
An alcohol bath was prepared with an ethanol solution and dry ice, the solution was measured using a
thermometer, at approximately 15˚ the bath was placed under a Polaroid filter and above a stable jar
upon a white piece of paper. The capillary level holder with the frozen capillary tubes was placed
carefully into the bath (at an angle to reduce effervescence). A lamp was placed 20 cm away from the
setup and shone on the Polaroid filter. This setup ensured the ethanol solution didn t heat up too
rapidly.
The ethanol solution was stirred at regular intervals using an unreactive rod, whilst a stopwatch was
used to accurately determine the melting point of each capillary tube, by clear visualisation of the

The Casey Anthony Trial
Throughout one s life many are prone to being in one of America s many courtrooms at least once in
their life. Whether it is for a parking ticket, a petty larceny charge, or simply jury duty most citizens
have been in a courtroom once or twice. However, it is rare that one knows the many steps and
processes that take place when a crime has been convicted. There is an excess number of elements that
are introduced and just to name a few it all starts with the occurrence of the crime, then follows the
arrest, proceeded by an arraignment, bail hearing and any more steps before finally reaching the final
verdict that lands one with guilt or innocence (Neubrauer, Fadella 2013). Based on the laws in place
by the United States and the Constitution one must be able to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
If there is doubt at all in the jurors minds, they cannot convict the individual of being guilty and lately
this has created a lot of controversy in the United States with many cases being tried. For example, the
Casey Anthony case that took place in Florida was one of the most recent states where Common Law
and the Constitution were unable to be reconcilable to prove one s guilt.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Dumpster Diving
Dumpster Diving and it s Honorable Niche
There are many people who choose to live their life based on what they find in dumpsters. You can
spot them almost anywhere because there is a great population of them. Many people that see one of
these dumpster divers view them as disgusting or inappropriate to society. People are quick to judge
others when they do not relate to how they live their life. ¨On Dumpster Diving¨ by Lars Eighner is a
short excerpt from his memoir Travels with Lizbeth , he begins to explain that dumpster diving is not a
bad activity as most view it as. He talks from a dumpster diver s perspective, and tries to prove that
dumpster diving is resourceful. Eighner applies the three rhetorical appeals to establish his argument
that dumpster diving is an ¨honorable niche¨, although he uses ethos the most to support his position.
To begin with, ethos was a big appeal that Eighner used to convince his readers that dumpster diving
is an honorable activity. He begins to explain his own experience in dumpster diving, and how it is
something honorable to him. Ethos is described as having, ¨... personal warmth, consideration of
others, a good mind and solid learning¨ (Fahnestock, 1). So, when arguing ethos, the person has to be
relying and with experience. Eighner does give many examples from his personal perspective as a
dumpster diver, and makes him a reliable source. In the short excerpt, ¨On Dumpster Diving¨, Eighner
explains, ¨...and because I visited the dumpster regularly I knew what was fresh and what was
yesterday s¨ (24). As a person with experience in dumpster diving, he explains that he can tell the
difference between what has been recently thrown away and what has already been there for a while,
and with that he knows what is good to use and what is not. This is a good factor of dumpster diving
because he does not need to spend any money like others, he just relies on what others throw away.
Also, Eighner explains, The student does not know that, and since it is Daddy s money, the students
decide not to take a chance (26). Eighner describes those who are unresourceful as rich, spoiled, kids
that do not know how to occupy what they have wisely. In this case dumpster divers take advantage

Johnson was not the only author of this period to portray the harsh realities of African American Life.
Langston Hughes also contributed pessimistic literature. The Weary Blues and Who But The Lord?

Just last week two African American men were arrested at Starbucks for simply looking suspicious,

Domestic Violence And Its Effects On Society
Murders, rapists, batterers and abusers all have two things in common: they are criminals, and they all
take away some part of another human being s life. Both men and women have to deal with the
everlasting issue of domestic violence. Defined by domesticviolence.org (2012) as a behavior used by
one person in a relationship to control the other , domestic violence can be physical, emotional,
sexual, verbal, or even financial. Although the issue of abusers being punished is a significant one, it
must be realized that there are victims, and those victims need help. Some countries have no concern
or sympathy for victims, as more than twenty countries have no laws against abuse ( Domestic
Violence in Developing Countries: An Intergenerational Crisis, n.d.). In many cases, victims should be
placed in a counseling program so that they can learn that the trauma they endured was not their fault.
Both Sarasota and Manatee counties have shelters for women who have been abused, however,
Sarasota County shelters do not offer counseling. Sarasota County is saving money by not having to

them. Domestic violence, when physical, is against the law, therefore, the perpetrator may be sentence

Stereotypes In Brave New World Essay
Men exploit media. Men exploit feelings. Men exploit freedom.Through the advancement of media
society controls aspects of what people think. Media in today s world develop jingles and slogans for
people to know their products. In the modern world everyone knows the popular name brands by their
logo or slogan, McDonald s, Nike, Red Robin. Media brainwashes its citizens in doing and behaving
how it wants. Companies place ads for convenience products and toys on the children s channels
because the producers know that both parents and their children will see them. Restaurant corporations
create ads displaying foods that look delicious thus, causing the viewer to desire their food. In Aldous
Huxley s novel Brave New World he creates a world where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In both the modern world and Huxley s dystopian, society molds its people with propaganda. In the
modern world when someone sings Red Robin! most people will eith sing or think in response Yum! .
Due to the number of ads the Red Robin Cooperation develops the majority of society knows their
slogan, and when most people hear their jingle they crave their food showing the effectiveness of their
propaganda in how they ve embedded their products into consumers. In Huxley s world, the ruling
government uses propaganda to keep a stable economy. Ending is better than mending. The more
stitches, the less riches; the more stitches... (Huxley 49). The dystopian society that Huxley created
uses propaganda to make sure their people behave the way they want. By programming their brains
into believing that they would rather die than buy a new product after one has obtained a flaw. This
mindset of the people means that they have only have the illusion of freedom. They believe that have
have the freedom to buy new products when their old one has a rip, but in reality their society
programmed their brains into believing the illusion of choice. Huxley also shows that the
advancements in medical technology takes away the freedom of

Nasa Presentation
Nasa project Presentation Overall I think are presentation was good the reason why I think that is. Are
presentation was about the apollo missions one through eleven and what each objective was for each
mission. Each mission was an important role for nasa because they learned many things like the
mistakes they made and the new things they discovered throughout the missions. It s fascinating how
much they were able to achieve in a short period of time.
The apollo missions were like steps for the next mission. The goal at the end was to get the first man
on the moon. It took in total 6 apollo missions to be able to get a man on the moon and back. The
apollo missions where a great achievement for mankind and the united states. Getting a man on the
moon meant that we could go to so many other planets and not just the moon.
Are presentation also went into a little bit of detail on how the race began to the moon against the
other countries including the US and Russia. At the time of the race to the moon, the US and Russia
were in the middle of a cold war at the same time. What started it was the tension with Russia and the

When we presented we mainly only talked about the missions of apollo and the goal of each mission.
We didn t really talk about the background of each mission like who was on the mission and what was
achieved and the small little thighs like that which we failed to explain. I think if we had just a little
bit more time we would be able to present all this information because we were wanting to do flash
cards but we did not have enough time to. I would have to say the apollo missions are a very important
to mankind because how important it was knowing that we could actually go to another planet and be
able to be able to live on the plant and maybe one day discovering new life forms that could be just
like us or very different from

What Happens When Eating Gluten-Free
I used to eat out often with my wife before I discovered I had Celiac Disease. That all changed when I
had to start eating gluten free. You see, a few years ago the words gluten free and Celiac Disease were
almost non existent. I didn t know until years later how to find out which restaurants I could eat gluten
free food at.
Really, no matter what state you live in or even if there are not many advertised gluten free restaurants
near you, you can find places to eat out. Here s what you do. First, simply think of a restaurant you
would like to eat at. Second, go on their website to read up on their menu. More and more restaurants
are providing information on their websites about how they prepare their food and which items are
gluten free. As you re looking at your favorite restaurant s website, if you don t see any info about
gluten free items, chances are good that they don t have anything gluten free. Here s the thing, though,
give them a call and ask them about how they prepare their food. If you notice a menu item that doesn
t have gluten ingredients you can ask them how they prepare it. This way you can find out if it comes
in contact with gluten. I ve done this and have had great results. ... Show more content on

I know not everyone lives near Cuca s. That s not the point. The point is they are a smaller restaurant
and I could simply ask them to wash their hands before preparing my items and to use fresh utensils.
They were cool with it and followed what I asked. That enabled me to eat some really great tacos and
not get sick. Needless to say I went back there a

Essay about Grunge
Grunge
In the isolated city of Seattle during the mid 1980 s a new sound and attitude was developing.
Although it didn t yet have a coined term it would later become know as Grunge, originally a tounge
in cheek term for the pungent guitar noise propagated by the cultish independent label Sub Pop (
Grunge ). This mix of 70 s metal and early 80 s punk blasted into mainstream America and brought
the hard rock sound of the 70 s back to life, but the sudden, unexpected and to some unwanted, fame
and popularity would prove to much for it and like so many pop culture movements before, it would
fade away under the pressure( History ). Grunge owes it s start in part to the area in which it was
created, Seattle was isolated, untouched by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grunge wasn t a produced sound, the independent record labels that started to pop up where usually
friends of the band members or the band s themselves. No one signed contracts, a shake of a hand and
the band and label were now in business together. Unlike the large rock bands of the 70 s or the pop
bands of today Grunge bands didn t go seeking major record labels, they played to crowds of drunken
friends and locals. They would play in clubs and bars where the crowd would get drunk and thrash
about wildly. The Seattle phenomenon wouldn t have been possible without the network of college
radio, fanzines, and indie contributors that sprang up in the wake of punk rock ( Grunge City ). The
bands never expected to get big, most had a tight following of fans who were all that kept them going.
The local fans had a lot to do with the development of Grunge. Grunge fans were the first fans to
create fanzines. Fanzines were cheaply created magazines used to spread news about their favorite
band, where they would be playing next, what their message was or just about the band members
themselves. This small following of fans didn t put any pressure on a band, when they got up to
perform it was to have fun and see how wild they could get the crowd. This lack of pressure and
knowledge of how corporate America worked was a key factor in the quick downfall of Grunge. In
1991 Michael Jackson and Paula Abdul were at the top of the

Theme Of Flowers In Sons And Lovers
David Herbert Lawrence was born on 11 September, 1885 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, England.
His father, named Arthur Lawrence, was a coal miner and his mother, Lydia Lawrence, worked in the
lace making industry. Lawrence was a noted author of novels, short stories, essays, plays and poems,
and is nowadays considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century (Biography.com
Editors). One of his most acknowledged novels is Sons and Lovers , published in 1913, in which he
depicts the life of a working class family: The Morels. In this book, Lawrence employs symbols in
order to the help the reader understand the innermost feelings of each of the characters, as well as to
describe their main personality traits.
In first place, the use of flowers as a symbol of happiness is crucial for the understanding of Mrs
Gertrude Morel´s feelings. As she was unhappy and disappointed of the life she had, Mrs Morel tried
to find the peace and joy she needed by beholding flowers. This is portrayed in: The front garden was
a small square with a private hedge. There she stood trying to soothe herself with the scent of flowers
and the fading, beautiful evening (Lawrence, D.H. Sons and Lovers. England. Penguin Books, 1976.
Pages 12 13). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is depicted when Paul is teaching Algebra to Miriam: They worked, he talking, she with her head

her, do you see? she looked up at him, her eyes wide with the half laugh that comes from fear. Don t
you? he cried. (...) It made his blood rouse... (193). Another example of blood as a symbol of anger;
But, in spite of himself, his blood began to boil with her. It was strange that no one else made him in
such a fury. He flared against her (195). In this way, the author portrays the violent and sadistic nature
of Paul through the image of

The Iranian Hostage Crisis
On November 4, 1979 the Iranians had had enough with the United States. Thousands of protesters
gathered around the United States embassy, yelling anti American slogans. At about 10 that morning
approximately three thousand people started to climb over the 10 foot wall that surrounded the
embassy, forcing their way into the chancery building. The guards were ordered not to fire at the
crowd in case it should start a war, but use tear gas. The tear gas was unsuccessful however and the
protesters captured the marine guards, military officials and the embassy workers, totaling 66 men and
women blindfolded and tied up. It was unclear if Khomeini helped plan the hostage crisis, but he did
little to prevent it. Khomeini saw how popular the hostage

  • 2. Nuclear Power Plant Safety Systems Topic 1 Nuclear Power Plant Safety Systems IAEA Synopsis: In 1956, 81 member nations unanimously approved The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Statute, the guiding document for the creation of this committee. The objective of the statue stated that the Agency shall seek to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health and prosperity throughout the world. It shall ensure, so far as it is able, that assistance provided by it or at its request or under its supervision or control is not used in such a way as to further any military purpose. As such, the IAEA was established in 1957 to respond to global fears about the potential dangers of nuclear energy. Since its creation, the IAEA has responded to a wide variety of issues related to atomic energy. At the time of its creation, the primary fear was that nuclear power could be an avenue to create and use nuclear weapons. Indeed, this is still a concern today. Of late, the IAEA has focused on ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants. Various safety system failures in nuclear power plants calls for the revision of the current safety standards and approaches for maintain the safety of nuclear power sources. One such event that caused this shift in focus was the Fukushima accident in 2011. March 11, 2011 Fukushima Accident At 2:46pm Japan tremored under the Great East Japan Earthquake, magnitude 9.0. • 3. How Did Dmitri Mendeleev Show Honor Honor means to hold with high respect or esteem. My view of honor is to give respect to those who deserve it. Dmitri Mendeleev, the creator of the first periodic table, is one of those who deserve the respect honor has to offer. Dmitri Mendeleev was born February 8, 1834. When he was young, his father went blind and couldn t work. Since his father couldn t work, his mother re opened the glass factory that his father owned. When he was 13, his father died. Then, the glass factory burned down when he was 15. Mendeleev had trained as both an academic chemist and a teacher at his father s old college, partly because the college had known his father. He suffered from Tuberculosis at 20 and had to work mostly from his bed. When he graduated, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It made finding the elements easier and it was able to be altered for the better of the science community. His table was able to accurately predict the missing elements in his chart. Mendeleev was very successful in his scientific career after he created the periodic table and is most famous for that discovery. Mendeleev s periodic table had some flaws, but he used his periodic table to: Propose that some of the elements, whose behavior did not agree with his predictions, must have had their atomic weights measured incorrectly. Predict the existence of eight new elements. Mendeleev even predicted the properties these elements would have. Later it was found that Dmitri did measure some atomic properties incorrectly. Dmitri Mendeleev s discovery of the periodic table fulfilled the criteria for honor worthy. His discovery is honor worthy because the science world would be having a hard time today if it wasn t for his work in chemistry. All in all, Dmitri Mendeleev is honor worthy because he made the science world more organized and was unbiased while doing so. Works Cited Dmitri Mendeleev Biography, Facts and Pictures. • 4. New Beauty Authority Jean Kilbourne Summary Killing Us Softly 4: Advertising s Image of Women (Kilbourne) shows a startling reminder of how advertisement has influenced our views of women, men, and ourselves. Jean Kilbourne explains how advertisements use images, body language, fantasy, and text to entice the audience. An advertisement in New Beauty magazine for a new weight loss technique depicts a woman fearlessly looking at herself in the mirror (ZELTIQ Aesthetics, Inc. 43). American Rifleman endorses a paintball gun in one of their advertisements, using a woman dressed in a barely there Santa dress (Dillion Prcision 98). At her feet is a brown box with a red ribbon. The woman is holding a green bow, one loop in each hand, which is attached to a shiny, blue paintball gun. The woman is smiling in a way that makes her seem docile at first but then inviting. The fantasy that this Dillion Precision article invokes is pretty evident. If you are a man with an interest in guns and women, then what could be a better gift than an attractive woman with a new paintball gun? • 5. Evolution By Natural Selection By Charles Darwin Evolution by natural selection, proposed by Charles Darwin in 1859, requires a population to have three necessities. These include variation, which leads to differences in fitness, and a form of heredity for this variation (Bourrat 2014). Natural selection acts solely by accumulating slight, successive, and favorable variations and cannot produce great or sudden modifications because it can act only by very short and slow steps (Darwin 1859). Nevertheless, there are always numerous potential selective pressures in nature that limit a population s evolution and fitness like predation. Plants form the foundation on which communities and ecosystems are assembled and which food webs are created. Accordingly, the understanding of factors that establish plant distribution, abundance is essential for our understanding of ecology at large. As major constituents of most ecosystems and chronic agents of plant damage, consumers have great potential to heavily impact plant abundance and distribution (Maron and Crone 2006). Particularly, herbivore populations like Eurosta solidaginis typically sustain heavy attacks from tortuous arrays of natural enemies (Bergman and Tingey 1979). They frequently encounter parasitoid wasps and avian predators, which impact the survival of the gallmakers. If a survivorship varies among gallmakers with different traits, natural enemy attacks can potentially alter their traits in later generations (Warren et al. 1989). Based upon other experiments ... • 6. The Government Effect On Protests Demonstrations Protests The Government Effect On The Protests Protests have numerous factors that affect the result of the protest and one major element is the government. In the 1960 s some protests were brutal due to discrimination; yet, the largest protest achieved to maintain a safe environment because the government respected and allowed the protests. The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963 peacefully gathered approximately 250,000 citizens together to protest the high level of black unemployment, minimal wages African Americans received for jobs, poor job mobility, and continuous racial segregation. In contrast, The Gezi Park Protests in Turkey, Taksim in 2013 got out of control due to the government response to the initial 50 environmentalists who opposed to cutting the trees and building a shopping mall instead. The government used police force brutally against the activists and as a result, approximately 3.5 million protesters right to freely voice their dissatisfaction and use the media was constrained. So, even though today, overall technology and cities have improved excessively, Turkey is still facing an immense pressure and constraint from the government during protests compare to the protests fifty years ago in Washington D.C. In every country, protecting its citizens rights is the government s fundamental duty in order to maintain the peace and unity. But in Turkey, citizens rights were violated because the government used its

If this state of affairs was reflected in educational establishments of that time the likelihood of any meaning full cooperation between those engaging in the teaching of reading comprehension and mathematics would seem to be very remote indeed. He demonstrates if a given task is to calculate a mathematical problem and information is presented as numbers with operational signs sequenced appropriately, children who understand algorithms can proceed with ease. However, when the mathematical task to answer includes information that is presented at the outset in words and sentences, pupils must first comprehend the text before they can use the appropriate algorithmic skill. Obviously then even the best maths students cannot solve problems they don t fully understand. Fuentes (1998) maintains the narrative of mathematical problems tends to be compacted where mathematical concepts and relationships are often hidden, implied or assumed and the pupil is left to expand and extract the true meaning. This is in marked contrast to the narrative of storybooks which tends to be expansive and elaborate. In addition he notes that the ambiguity found in the interpretation of for example, a poem may well be applauded however any ambiguity in maths text interpretation simply means failure. From research I have encountered thus far I must agree that good reading comprehension is essential for interpreting mathematical texts. Baker (1995) and Christen and Murphy ... Mount Everest Pros And Cons Nepal has eight of the 14 highest mountains in the world, including Mount Everest Nepalese authorities say that the number of visitors to Sagarmatha National Park, where Everest lies, has roughly tripled in the past 20 years. With the increasing number of tourists comes a growing amount of rubbish left behind on mountains: food wrappers, climbing gear, oxygen cylinders, and even the bodies of climbers who died along the way. The frigid temperatures mean trash does not biodegrade. Over the past six decades, an estimated 50 tons of trash has been left on Mount Everest, giving it the nickname the world s highest garbage dump. Mountaineering associations have complained about the growing number of inexperienced climbers leaving their garbage behind in an attempt to save the energy they need to reach the summit or return to base camp alive. Famous climbers such as Reinhold Messner have said Mount Everest has been trivialized, calling for Nepal to close off access to the mountain for a handful of years to allow it to recover. New clean up rules Now Nepal s tourism ministry has acted, deciding that from this April forward, every climber going beyond the base camp will be required to bring back at least eight kilograms (17.6 pounds) of their personal waste and hand it over to officials stationed there. My reasons behind this opinion are single sex schooling has less distraction in class, single sex schools have better learning results and lastly boys and girls in a same sex environment are more likely to pursue subjects they usually would not try. Single sex schools have less distractions in class. In this assignment I m going to explain the impact that the industrial revolution had on people in There are three main characteristics of the industrial revolution which most people would think of first which are urbanization, suburb slums and agricultural revolution. Urbanization is when people move from small towns and the countryside to live in cities for more job opportunities. It developed to many people living in overcrowded houses, which lead to social classes being organized into geographical zones. Using new technology and transportation many people were able to travel more using the national railway networks, people were able to travel for days out to the seaside for a cheap fare and so many business people started to run hotels for mainly the middle class to go for holidays. The persistence of Hispanics in migrating has lead to having Mexicans account for nearly half of all immigration to the US and has changed Mexican s standing from the minority to the majority in many areas. • 18. The Theme Of Paranoia In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time Beyond the elements of any story, there is always a reevaluation about life or central characters. Theme always includes a statement upon the notation of abstract qualities through the embodiment of the writer. As presented in Once Upon a Time, the central insight to the plot suffices to the crude development of the character who overcompensates the emotion of paranoia, executed by the natural dangers of the outside world. Author Nadine Gordimer generalizes the concept of the psychosis based on the parallelism between the fear of the character to the fear of the mother in her dream. Notably, she illustrates the gruesome reality of human nature, that she echoes the subconscious mind to her bedtime story. Granted under the idea of theme, the escapades of Once Upon a Time adds on to the primary purpose of distressed emotion. Gordimer unifies the human nature of fear to her story based on the personal experience of herself at home. For instance, ..I was reading every faintest sound, identifying and classifying its possible threat (Gordimer 231). With this in mind, we can correlate to the theme of society countervailing the excessive obsession of pessimism. As a result, she attentively entices the audience through her vision of a practical utopian civilization. There are two types of succession, primary, and secondary. Primary is when there is no life on a landform such as an empty island, and there was no community on that island before the succession. Secondary succession is where the community that was on the island is now being removed, and that there is a recovering of the population after the succession has occurred. One of the important things to remember about secondary succession is that it is typically faster because the soil is already present and plants may still be buried under the soil, and thus can grow faster then if they weren t there. Some of the many factors that can affect adolescent immigrants are discrimination, due to their new social status as immigrants and because they are part of a racial/ethnic minority, and insecurity based on lack of language proficiency. Benefits Of A Quality Retirement Plan A quality retirement plan can help companies retain top talent and attract highly skilled new employees to offset the talent loss that comes with an aging workforce. According to Scott Boyd, SVP, National Platform Distribution and Relationships and head of Healthcare Solutions for Prudential Retirement, in Hartford, Connecticut. Plan sponsors and their providers or advisors when discussing retirement plan design tend to have conversations about plan costs instead, they should consider the more implicit costs of employees not being able to retire. Whether it is for a parking ticket, a petty larceny charge, or simply jury duty most citizens have been in a courtroom once or twice. There is an excess number of elements that are introduced and just to name a few it all starts with the occurrence of the crime, then follows the arrest, proceeded by an arraignment, bail hearing and any more steps before finally reaching the final verdict that lands one with guilt or innocence (Neubrauer, Fadella 2013). Based on the laws in place by the United States and the Constitution one must be able to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. • 39. Rhetorical Analysis Of Dumpster Diving Dumpster Diving and it s Honorable Niche There are many people who choose to live their life based on what they find in dumpsters. You can spot them almost anywhere because there is a great population of them. Many people that see one of these dumpster divers view them as disgusting or inappropriate to society. People are quick to judge others when they do not relate to how they live their life. ¨On Dumpster Diving¨ by Lars Eighner is a short excerpt from his memoir Travels with Lizbeth , he begins to explain that dumpster diving is not a bad activity as most view it as. He talks from a dumpster diver s perspective, and tries to prove that dumpster diving is resourceful. Eighner applies the three rhetorical appeals to establish his argument that dumpster diving is an ¨honorable niche¨, although he uses ethos the most to support his position. To begin with, ethos was a big appeal that Eighner used to convince his readers that dumpster diving is an honorable activity. He begins to explain his own experience in dumpster diving, and how it is something honorable to him. Ethos is described as having, ¨... personal warmth, consideration of others, a good mind and solid learning¨ (Fahnestock, 1). So, when arguing ethos, the person has to be relying and with experience. Eighner does give many examples from his personal perspective as a dumpster diver, and makes him a reliable source. In the short excerpt, ¨On Dumpster Diving¨, Eighner explains, ¨...and because I visited the dumpster regularly I knew what was fresh and what was yesterday s¨ (24). As a person with experience in dumpster diving, he explains that he can tell the difference between what has been recently thrown away and what has already been there for a while, and with that he knows what is good to use and what is not. This is a good factor of dumpster diving because he does not need to spend any money like others, he just relies on what others throw away. Also, Eighner explains, The student does not know that, and since it is Daddy s money, the students decide not to take a chance (26). • 42. The Weary Blues And Who But The Lord Poem Johnson was not the only author of this period to portray the harsh realities of African American Life. Langston Hughes also contributed pessimistic literature. The Weary Blues and Who But The Lord? were both sorrowful poems that expressed the despair of the African American people. The Weary Blues told the story of a depressed African American who was singing the blues and playing the piano. He was lonely and had lost the desire to live. He sang, I got the Weary Blues And I can t be satisfied. Got the Weary Blues And can t be satisfied I ain t happy no mo And I wish that I had died, (25 30). While James Weldon Johnson and Langston Hughes were ahead of the curve with their pessimistic writings, Afro pessimism has become even more prevalent in modern times, which is extremely evident in This is America. Although most people would expect that given this progressive contemporary climate, the African American community would be optimistic about the future, but in reality they are more pessimistic than ever. Prejudice and violence against African Americans are still major issues over a century later. Racial profiling and police brutality still occur on a regular basis. Just last week two African American men were arrested at Starbucks for simply looking suspicious, and the police were called on a black college student for falling asleep in the common room. In light of these infractions it is truly no wonder that the African American community feels like Sisyphus eternally pushing a rock up a hill, but cursed to never reach the top. While in an ideal world afro pessimism would be unnecessary, we live in an erroneous world, and all the evidence indicates that afro pessimistic outlooks will continue to dominate in ... • 43. Domestic Violence And Its Effects On Society Murders, rapists, batterers and abusers all have two things in common: they are criminals, and they all take away some part of another human being s life. Both men and women have to deal with the everlasting issue of domestic violence. Defined by domesticviolence.org (2012) as a behavior used by one person in a relationship to control the other , domestic violence can be physical, emotional, sexual, verbal, or even financial. Although the issue of abusers being punished is a significant one, it must be realized that there are victims, and those victims need help. Some countries have no concern or sympathy for victims, as more than twenty countries have no laws against abuse ( Domestic Violence in Developing Countries: An Intergenerational Crisis, n.d.). In many cases, victims should be placed in a counseling program so that they can learn that the trauma they endured was not their fault. Both Sarasota and Manatee counties have shelters for women who have been abused, however, Sarasota County shelters do not offer counseling. Sarasota County is saving money by not having to pay for counseling, but the counseling programs are worth the funds that would have to be put toward them. Domestic violence, when physical, is against the law, therefore, the perpetrator may be sentence to time in jail. However, these violent criminals, most often men, do eventually get out of jail. The victims, who often face guilt and even dependency, usually go back to their abusers, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The dystopian society that Huxley created uses propaganda to make sure their people behave the way they want. This mindset of the people means that they have only have the illusion of freedom. • 45. Nasa Presentation Nasa project Presentation Overall I think are presentation was good the reason why I think that is. Are presentation was about the apollo missions one through eleven and what each objective was for each mission. Each mission was an important role for nasa because they learned many things like the mistakes they made and the new things they discovered throughout the missions. It s fascinating how much they were able to achieve in a short period of time. The apollo missions were like steps for the next mission. The goal at the end was to get the first man on the moon. It took in total 6 apollo missions to be able to get a man on the moon and back. The apollo missions where a great achievement for mankind and the united states. Getting a man on the moon meant that we could go to so many other planets and not just the moon. Are presentation also went into a little bit of detail on how the race began to the moon against the other countries including the US and Russia. You see, a few years ago the words gluten free and Celiac Disease were almost non existent. I didn t know until years later how to find out which restaurants I could eat gluten free food at. Really, no matter what state you live in or even if there are not many advertised gluten free restaurants near you, you can find places to eat out. Here s what you do. First, simply think of a restaurant you would like to eat at. Second, go on their website to read up on their menu. More and more restaurants are providing information on their websites about how they prepare their food and which items are gluten free. As you re looking at your favorite restaurant s website, if you don t see any info about gluten free items, chances are good that they don t have anything gluten free. Here s the thing, though, give them a call and ask them about how they prepare their food. If you notice a menu item that doesn t have gluten ingredients you can ask them how they prepare it. Although it didn t yet have a coined term it would later become know as Grunge, originally a tounge in cheek term for the pungent guitar noise propagated by the cultish independent label Sub Pop ( Grunge ). This mix of 70 s metal and early 80 s punk blasted into mainstream America and brought the hard rock sound of the 70 s back to life, but the sudden, unexpected and to some unwanted, fame and popularity would prove to much for it and like so many pop culture movements before, it would fade away under the pressure( History ). Grunge wasn t a produced sound, the independent record labels that started to pop up where usually friends of the band members or the band s themselves. No one signed contracts, a shake of a hand and the band and label were now in business together. Unlike the large rock bands of the 70 s or the pop bands of today Grunge bands didn t go seeking major record labels, they played to crowds of drunken friends and locals. They would play in clubs and bars where the crowd would get drunk and thrash about wildly. The Seattle phenomenon wouldn t have been possible without the network of college radio, fanzines, and indie contributors that sprang up in the wake of punk rock ( Grunge City ). The bands never expected to get big, most had a tight following of fans who were all that kept them going. The local fans had a lot to do with the development of Grunge. Grunge fans were the first fans to create fanzines. Fanzines were cheaply created magazines used to spread news about their favorite band, where they would be playing next, what their message was or just about the band members themselves. This small following of fans didn t put any pressure on a band, when they got up to perform it was to have fun and see how wild they could get the crowd. This lack of pressure and knowledge of how corporate America worked was a key factor in the quick downfall of Grunge. In 1991 Michael Jackson and Paula Abdul were at the top of the ... • 50. Theme Of Flowers In Sons And Lovers David Herbert Lawrence was born on 11 September, 1885 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, England. His father, named Arthur Lawrence, was a coal miner and his mother, Lydia Lawrence, worked in the lace making industry. Lawrence was a noted author of novels, short stories, essays, plays and poems, and is nowadays considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century (Biography.com Editors). One of his most acknowledged novels is Sons and Lovers , published in 1913, in which he depicts the life of a working class family: The Morels. In this book, Lawrence employs symbols in order to the help the reader understand the innermost feelings of each of the characters, as well as to describe their main personality traits. In first place, the use of flowers as a symbol of happiness is crucial for the understanding of Mrs Gertrude Morel´s feelings. As she was unhappy and disappointed of the life she had, Mrs Morel tried to find the peace and joy she needed by beholding flowers. This is portrayed in: The front garden was a small square with a private hedge. There she stood trying to soothe herself with the scent of flowers and the fading, beautiful evening (Lawrence, D.H. Thousands of protesters gathered around the United States embassy, yelling anti American slogans. At about 10 that morning approximately three thousand people started to climb over the 10 foot wall that surrounded the embassy, forcing their way into the chancery building. The guards were ordered not to fire at the crowd in case it should start a war, but use tear gas. The tear gas was unsuccessful however and the protesters captured the marine guards, military officials and the embassy workers, totaling 66 men and women blindfolded and tied up.
