some people started to take that literally. I ve always been a fan of things that nobody could
explain. I think it s incredible that with all of the advancements in technology and science, there s
still things that have happened that make people scratch their heads and go, huh? When writing
this speech, I considered several different possibilities, the Bermuda Triangle, Amelia Earhart, but I
finally settled on this. This particular unexplained incident happened, as I said, in the year 1518.
Today, I plan to explain to you guys what the Dancing Plague was, similar instances and effects,
and what could have possibly caused it.
First, let me give you the background. In the year 1518 a single woman suddenly began dancing in
the streets of Strasbourg, France. There was no music playing at the time to prompt her to start
dancing and evidently, she seemed upset to be dancing. By the end of a week, somewhere between
thirty and forty people had started to dance with her. Within a month, more than 400 people were
dancing, without stopping. For whatever reason, the authorities and leaders of the town seemed to
think that the best way to stop the dancing was to keep people dancing. It makes no sense to me,

In today s time, the concept of popular sovereignty is used for making decisions about topics
such as abortion and marijuana; however, in 1858, popular sovereignty was about giving the
right to citizens of a state or territory to decide for themselves whether slavery should be legal in
that state or territory (Dudley 154). The topic of popular sovereignty was a pressing debate point
between the two men running for a U.S. Senate seat in 1858 (Dudley 154). Stephen Douglas was
the Illinois U.S. senator who played crucial roles in passing the Compromise of 1850 and the
Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854 (Dudley 154). His opponent was Abraham Lincoln, a successful self
taught lawyer turned congressman, who later went on to win the presidential race of 1860 (Dudley
156). Mr. Douglas believed that popular sovereignty should be the deciding factor on the question
of slavery(Dudley 154); whereas, Abraham Lincoln felt that slavery was an issue too large to be
decided upon by a vote of the people (Dudley 158). Acknowledging that the Union was built upon
the belief in sovereignty of the states, and there was in fact no reference to negroes in the

processing and cognitive performance. It is conceivable that older drivers who suffer from poor
vision would ultimately have worse cognitive performance irrespective of the degree of age related
cognitive declines. In other words, declines in physiological performance exacerbate the effects of
aging on cognitive functioning. Brouwer (1993) contends that impairments that lie both on the
level of receptor effector organs and on the level of cognitive functioning, particularly

attention, contribute to the problems older drivers encounter with the driving task.
For example, perceptual, cognitive, and motor declines affect an older driver s ability to merge with
traffic. On the perceptual level, older adults have difficulty seeing and determining the speed and

does not have adequate support and help for mentally ill students. They claim that any help from
Gabrielino would be useless and believe that it is not Gabrielino s responsibility to provide help for
these students. Other people believe that there are enough resources at Gabrielino to help mentally
ill students as well as sufficient awareness about this help. Through the annual Club Faire and Gab
week, these people state that students know that they can reach out and receive support. These

This was an investigation into the effects of different wavelengths of light on methylene blue and
carmine red on the absorbance value on a spectrophotometer. A spectrophotometer is used to
measure light intensity by emitting a single light source through a cuvette of coloured solution. The
particles in the solution, which are coloured, absorb the light depending on how concentrated it is
and this produces an electronic reading from the photometer which is the absorbance value. The

DISCUSSION:
The main objectives of this experiment was to find the unknown concentration of methylene blue
by using a spectrophotometer. I found the maximum absorption for methylene blue and carmine red
(please refer to figure 1) and using this I determined a more accurate maximum absorption value for
each solution by taking further readings around the peak of each line to determine the maximum.

characteristic of detectives being involved within the plot. As per suggestion on my proposal, I
developed my idea of detectives solving a case further by including dialogue and inter personnel

members of the real estate office discussing work and plotting in Glengarry Glen Ross, and

This is why towards the end of the play he walks off stage never to return. Chris, I wrote with the
intention of making him an arrogant jerk, or someone that you would hate to work with. James
countered his personality to some extent, or would have if the victim had not been his friend. I
made this a point so that James would be off his game, so to speak. This would justify in Chris s
mind why he would need to act on the chief s wishes and kill James. In regards to the ending, I
chose to end the play on an ill fitting monologue of sorts. It was jarring enough to not fit the way
the rest of the dialogue was given during the bulk of the play, for I wanted to get across that
Chris was far worse of a person than just being arrogant. James in the end lets his anger with
Chris subside to the point that he may think that Chris is trying to apologize by offering to get
him a drink. This thought will inevitably prove to be another lack of judgment by James. Overall,
the process of writing a play was a fun experience that I would like to come back to at some point
in time, possibly to expand this story in which I have now crafted. Creating three distinct
characters was quite a challenge, and writing a story with nothing but dialogue for the most part

A hint of the salt collected on her skin as the waves sprayed a mist after crashing against the
rocky shore. She had to brace herself, as she found her knees feeling a bit weak, but there was

Joel Edgerton s The Gift is great because it s so well constructed. This is Edgerton s directorial
debut, and it s a masterpiece of direction, specifically. I noticed this immediately. The entire thing
feels orchestrated, but never seems fake because the actors are really quite subtle. Plus an
orchestrated plot doesn t particularly mean a bad one. The Gift shakes the audience around so much
that it s almost worth the slight amount of artificiality. REALLY WORTH IT.
The Gift has a young couple, played by Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall, who move into a new
house. Their lives are then upheaved by the appearance of an old acquaintance, named Gordo (Joel

There always seems to be something off. Always something that makes your chest tighten up, and
your hands shake. This is achieved, I think, because Edgerton uses staging incredibly, even though
he pushes it a little far. The film is over staged, but it somewhat works to it s benefit. Edgerton
doesn t just want you to see the characters; he wants you to see the whole frame. He wants you to
see what s in the background, and the way it s all staged means that you notice that. These small
details in the background then link to other details, and so on, and so forth. It s really satisfying
when you realize that something small that you noticed earlier pays off in a big way, and it
makes the film seem all the more rich. Richness that the film needs to counterweight the
somewhat implausible proceedings, as well as the fact that it s all a little over staged. The
details also make the film pretty scary. There are two jump scares in this movie, but they feel
