Local Healthwatch organizations are commissioned by local authorities and work to influence local commissioning, monitor services, and provide information and support to individuals. They must include volunteers and community members. Healthwatch aims to give consumers a voice in the planning and delivery of health and social care services.

The presentation considered how Transforming Care Partnerships can plan and deliver local support and services for children, young people and their families. This is ahead of the publication of “Developing support and services for children and young people with learning disabilities and/or autism” later this year (November).
The presentation also considered each of the 9 principles of the Service Model: Supporting people with a learning disability and/or autism who display behaviour that challenges, including those with a mental health condition: Service model for commissioners of health and social care services, how they relate specifically to children and young people and what this will mean in terms of local commissioning intentions going forwards.

Only 1-2% of people with disabilities receive education or rehabilitation services in developing countries. AAMAL is a non-profit established in 2002 to provide rehabilitation services and advocacy for people with disabilities in Syria. Their programs include academic and vocational training, rehabilitation services for speech, hearing, autism and visual impairments, deaf support, social awareness campaigns, and governmental advocacy to promote inclusion of people with disabilities. AAMAL works to empower people with disabilities and pursue an integrated approach through networking with other organizations.

Project GIA then aimed to improve services for deaf elderly through two competence centers that would provide consulting, information, and networking to better serve deaf elderly individuals and connect them to appropriate care options. They have developed three models for helping children affected by HIV/AIDS: Community Care Coalitions, life skills training, and Channels of Hope. Community Care Coalitions mobilize communities to care for orphans and vulnerable children. World Vision has established over 274 Coalitions across Uganda reaching over 186,350 children. The Coalitions increase participation from community groups in caring for children and chronically ill households. They also increase children's access to education, healthcare, food and psychosocial support. North Fitzroy Prevention and Recovery Care (PARC)
North Fitzroy PARC provides support services in Victoria, Australia for patients with mental illness who have been discharged from the hospital but are not yet ready to return home. It is one of 25 such units organized by MI Fellowship in collaboration with hospitals. PARC aims to prepare patients for independent living through a maximum 28-day program offering daily support, individual and group activities, and help improving life skills and community involvement.
