Pluto and is mentioned as one of the fasted moving crafts we ve sent into space, I ve always wondered
how fast some of the other ships in space actually go.
Most sci fi shows have an FTL drive (Faster Than Light), but they never really say how much faster
they go. If you watch Star Trek, no ship ever really leaves the Milky Way because it s so fast that their
warp drive can t extend that far. The Alpha, Gamma, Delta and Beta quadrants are just cut up pieces of
the galaxy. Other ships can go from galaxy to galaxy like the ship from Stargate Universe. Luckily, the
crew over at fatwallet.com have created this wonderful infographic to try to explain how fast your

Colonel Edwin Hillandale, An Air Force Officer
Another character providing a keen understanding of the SOF Imperatives was Colonel Hillandale.
Colonel Edwin Hillandale was an Air Force officer assigned as a liaison in the Philippines. In the
course of his duties, he began working with Ramon Magsaysay. Magsaysay was having difficulty with
his campaign efforts in a communist held province. This led Hillandale to assist Magsaysay in his
efforts. Hillandale refutes the communist messaging of Americans being rich elitists who care who do
not care about Filipinos. He accomplishes this by eating the local food, being fluent in their language
and by displaying a great knowledge of their culture. He also uses his musical talents to attract a larger
audience to hear his message. He told the local Filipinos he could not afford a meal because the bulk
of his paycheck went to supporting his family, much like the Filipinos themselves. He played to the
cultural obligations of the Filipino people saying he had never met a Filipino who would not feed a
hungry man. This comment prompted all of the villagers to volunteer to feed him. He continued his
engagements for a few weeks. After the Filipinos met and identified with Hillandale, they no longer
believed the anti American propaganda spread by the Russians. Thanks to Hillandale s efforts,
Magsaysay enjoyed a landslide victory in the province. Hillandale use of the SOF imperatives made it
easy for him to achieve his goals. He provided a great understanding of applying his

What Is A Political Allegory In Lord Of The Flies
World War II caused an amount of destruction and harm that no human being had ever seen before,
many were disgusted and outraged by the results of this war. It was a very memorable event; one that
authors tend to write about a lot, even to this day. One author in particular, WIlliam Golding, uses his
world famous piece of literature Lord of the Flies as a political allegory to World War 2. In his classic
novel, he shows little boys who are flown out to avoid the danger of being bombed and become
trapped on an island. While they are trapped, the boys develop separate ways of leading each other
which leads to conflict and violence, similar to the governments in which were clashing with each
other during World War 2 at the time. Through the differences of these boys, Golding shows to us how
they relate to the major leaders of World War 2 (Hitler, Franklin Roosevelt, and Neville Chamberlain),
and how democracy is the best way to govern people. Hitler was the ruler of Germany during World
War II, and he ruled over his people in fear. Jack is commonly described to being similar if not exactly
like Hitler. Golding leaves many examples in the novel to show how Jack and Hitler are alike. Both of
them promised their citizens a better life, they both promise their country meat (Golding 140), and
they both lead as a dictator, taking their power with force and leading as the only chief of the state.
Jack is described in the book as a terror (Golding 189) and Hitler has been

Compare American and Chinese Universities
Compare American and Chinese Universities
American universities and Chinese universities have very different admission requirements. American
universities, most of them, offer fall term and spring term enrollments, and some schools even offer
winter term or summer term enrollments as well. When they make a decision of whether to admit an
applicant, they consider the applicant s GPA and SAT score, and sometimes give privileges to students
who demonstrate their achievements on extra curricula activities. Because most of American
universities accept both types of freshman and transfer students, students who are not able to enroll at
a four year university right after they graduate from high school can still apply for universities as

By this system, students have flexibility to choose a class and schedule a course roadmap that outlines
the courses students take within the terms. Students can take courses on fall term and spring term at
semester system schools, and fall term, winter term and spring term at quarter system schools. Many
schools offer a summer session for students as well. Therefore, each student would have their unique
class schedule and course roadmap based on their own preference. On the contrary, Chinese
universities have a very different system called academic year system, which means students graduate
when they finish certain years of study. By this system, students are required to declare their majors
very early in which on the application form when they apply for the school. Since the major is
decided, students have to follow the school made course roadmap to take most of the courses.
Students in Chinese universities may have a few choices on choosing a different instructor or different
class time for the general education classes, but they have very limited choices for the major classes.
Moreover, all the universities in China do not offer summer session. Consequently, in most
circumstances, same major students who enrolled in the school in the same year probably have same
class schedule each semester, especially on junior and senior level. Therefore, based on the education
system, American university students and Chinese

Commercial Fishing In New England
Commercial fishing in New England is not sustainable. Commercial fishing is the catching of fish for
profit and, as with other profit making activities, there are trade offs between a pure capitalistic market
and the damage it does to resources. For commercial fishing, this trade off is that the more fish the
fishermen catch, the more damage it does to the fish population. To make commercial fishing
sustainable, large regulations need to be in place, as Jack said. However, large regulations of a free
market are usually not accepted in America and would not be put in place in time to save the fish and
sustain commercial fishing.
The population of many fish species have decreased drastically through the years and, even with
current regulations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of Capitalism according to Merriam Webster is an economic system characterized by
private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private
decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by
competition in a Free Market. This means that the free market, or in this case commercial fishing, is
not controlled by the government because that is the definition of capitalism. Having big restrictions
on fishing would be seen as a restriction of the free market. Although regulations are put on the free
market, the size of regulations needed to sustain fish population and save commercial fishing would
not be tolerated by many political parties. The regulations would never be put in place. Unless
America changes its capitalist view, the large regulations needed to sustain commercial fishing will
not happen.
The changes needed for sustainable fishing are too big and do not fit with America s view of the
economic system. Unfortunately, without these changes, the fish population will continue to decline.
So, you can see that sustainable fishing in new England is not possible. Although New England and
the US cannot have sustainable fishing because of their capitalistic values, as shown throughout
history their values may

Intrinsic Motivation, By Daniel Pink
At the point when a person arranges or needs to accomplish something, he or she has a motivation for
that particular thing. As it were, the point at which a person accomplishes something, that person has a
motivation behind why he or she ought to do that thing. Not generally there is motivation to
accomplish something, yet in some cases might be numerous reasons that are support a person to take
those activities to do it. Two of those motivations which Daniel Pink discusses are intrinsic and
extrinsic motivation, and how they are once in a while consolidated together. Dweck in the other hand
thinks as motivation in another way by intelligence praise. To change, we need to have a goal and high

Italian Neorealism Genre
During World War II many films in Italy the Italian community created a new type of genre for that
specific decade called Italian Neorealism. The Neorealism genre was a style of film characterized by
stories done by the poor and working class. These movies were typically filmed on location meaning
not in a studio but rather at a real place and used nonprofessional actors. The films themselves
contended with the difficulty of life post World War II. The early films were about social issues and
war. Director Roberto Rossellini s created a movie during the Neorealist time called Rome Open City
which was released in 1945. The movie shows a deeply moving portrait of Rome during the last
couple years of the war, with Germany occupying the city and Allied forces slowly closing in. The
film was made on whatever film stock Rossellini could gather up in the post war Italian economy. It
was shot in the streets of Rome with a kind of documentary realism that would show an even greater
impact to this story.
Rome Open City for me personally was a very amusing movie to watch because I ve never watched a
foreign movie before and it was something different to see especially back in 1945 when the war was
going on. For me it s incredible how this movie did so well during a time of tragedy and yet movies
here not in the US can t even get a decent rating. I did on the other hand have a bit of a hard time
following the movie because the lyrics that were given to the movie in english weren t that amazing I
feel like if I spoke Italian or if it was remastered into a english film then i d love it even more. The
film was divided into two parts. The first half focused on the daily lives of the resistance fighters
living in Rome. Francesco works for a communist newspaper, he also helps a group of militant anti
Nazi fighters, led by his friend Giorgio. Francesco s fiancée, the Pina is involved in the struggle as
well she helps create riots against the shops that control food rations and keep the people of the city
from getting enough to eat. One of the major things I loved about this film was how Rossellini
balances the film s darker moments with surprising humorous touches, especially when using the
priest Don Pietro. The Part that

Essay about New Urbanism
New Urbanism
New Urbanism, a burgeoning genre of architecture and city planning, is a movement that has come
about only in the past decade. This movement is a response to the proliferation of conventional
suburban development (CSD), the most popular form of suburban expansion that has taken place since
World War II. Wrote Robert Steuteville, Lacking a town center or pedestrian scale, CSD spreads out to
consume large areas of countryside even as population grows relatively slowly. Automobile use per
capita has soared, because a motor vehicle is required for nearly all human transportation 1. New
Urbanism, therefore, represents the converse of this planning ideology. It stresses traditional planning,
including multi purpose zoning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drawing upon the lessons of urban revitalization, Seaside also utilizes a strong network of
neighborhood associations that not only work to continuously beautify the area but collect dues to
ensure that it is done so.4
Perhaps the most definitive example of New Urbanism has been DPZ s project, Kentlands, a 352 acre
community in Gaithersburg, Maryland begun in 1990. An oasis of good planning in a sea of suburbia,
it is not only a model of Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND) but also the predecessor to many
other such neighborhoods developed within CSD areas. In Kentlands, much like Seaside, the Citizens
Assembly runs a recreation center and provides for common maintenance of public areas. Civic
buildings and shopping in mixed use buildings are within walking distance of the development s six
architecturally distinct neighborhoods. This compact design reduces auto traffic significantly, allows
children to go about their daily business without requiring a mother chauffeur and puts workplaces
near their employees.5
Unique character is worked into the community s design wherever possible:
Kentlands has idiosyncrasy and imperfections intentionally. Authentic variety is achieved by allowing
odd, leftover lots to remain, forcing the design of a building for just that lot. We insisted that the
imprecision of design sketches be reflected in the built work. It took years for the engineers to get
used to not straightening every street or making every

Assess The Impact Of Globalization On The Chinese Economy
Globalization is a process that refers to the increased integration between different countries and
economies as well as the increased impact of international influences on all aspects of life and
economic activity. Over the last 50 years, globalization has had a tremendous impact on the Chinese
economy. The impacts brought forth by globalization can be both positive and negative and effect both
economic performance, economic growth and the development of China s economy. Globalization is
the main factor responsible for China s significant growth that has taken place over the last two
decades. However, globalization itself is not entirely responsible. The Chinese economy has also
implemented strategies which have been very effective in promoting economic growth and
development. These strategies include the implantation of Open door policy , Reformation of China s
agricultural system and joining the World Trade Organisation.
The impact of globalization on the Chinese economy can be seen through the increase in economic
performance. Over the last two decades, the Chinese economy has experienced significant economic
growth due to globalization. Globalization is responsible for reducing the barriers to trade and
increasing the integration between different countries and economies. The reduction of trade barriers
as well as the increased integration between different countries and economies resulted in an increase
in foreign investment and international trading which leads

the current business environment buyer power is high as Crown focuses on few high volume gamblers
this should be reduced, as it should concentrate on a higher numbers of smaller gamblers.
The recent increases in the gambling to HDI ratio as a result of better domestic economic conditions
should be exploited by Crown. In order to broaden its local market advertising campaigns to lure the
suburban poker machine players towards the city and away from RSL clubs and bars should be
undertaken. The recent acquisition of Crown by the media giant PBL should ensure that Crown
promotions reach a wider audience through the magazine/television business with little cost.
The main issue for Crown in the future is to maintain a consistent rate of turn over in slot machines
and tables. This should be achieved not only through advertising moreover by offering patrons the
latest technologies and gaming programs. Once the parton numbers are increased loyalty schemes
targeting the lower end of the gaming market should be under taken to maintain the flow of customers.

Reflection On City Council Meeting
INTRODUCTION One way to see public administration in action is by attending a city council
meeting, whether it be in an urban or rural area, public administration still has a part in each event. As
Kettl (2018; p. 244) referenced in his book, there is not a civil system that would be sustainable
without strong leadership. This paper will discuss the author s description, observation, and reflection
during a city council meeting.
DESCRIPTION
On Monday, October 23, 2017 the author attended Bellevue, Nebraska s city council meeting. The
meeting was called to order right at 6:00 p.m. which ensured all citizens were in their seats. Once it
was called to order, the author noted seeing little people sitting in the community seats. Of those ...

However, the council s concern was that if there was a bigger function at the park the residents living
near the park may experience frustration with a large amount of people parking near their homes. The
next concern was met with an abundance of conversation. One of the city council members pointed
out that in the project layout during the presentation, there was a lack of sidewalks. This was an
important issue in order for people to walk on the sidewalk instead of in the grass. Another city
council member noted that would be another fundraising project due to the high expense of adding a

Comparison Of Lone Survivor And The Odyssey
Many cities of men he saw and learned their minds, many pains he suffered, heartsick on the open sea,
fighting to save his life and bring his comrades home. (Homer77) In Lone Survivor, and The Odyssey,
men must make the difficult journey home, struggling through many obstacles and hardships. These
sources are very different, but they also hold some similarities such as obstacles, desire, and a sense of
duty.
In the beginning of Lone Survivor, four men undertake a mission to take down the leader of the
Taliban. They finally reach the mountain above where the village is located, and immediately spots the
Taliban leader. Mike Murphy, their lutenaint, says to move up higher into the trees. While resting, they
awake to the sound of goat bells, and take the three Taliban sheepherders as prisoners for the moment.
They find a walkie talkie, and Mike, and his men, start arguing over the right thing to do, to kill the
men, tie them up and let them die on their own, or to release them and move up. They argue as to
whether or not to follow their rules of engagement, and not kill unless fired upon, or do just kill them.
Finally, they decide to let them go, and follow the rules of engagement. If we kill these kids, it s
International news. CNN doesn t care about Rules of Engagement. SEALs kill kids. That s the story.
Forever. Let them go. Shut it down. (Berg52)
Everybody has something they want. For the characters in The Odyssey, and Lone Survivor, they only
want one thing; to get home to their loved ones. The beginning of Lone Survivor starts out with Mike
Murphey looking at an Arabian horse that his girlfriend really wants as a wedding gift. Odysseus
wants to be home, and away from the terrible waters of the sea (Homer179) In the middle of the book,
Danny, one of the Seals in the mission, falls to the ground, shot. The Taliban think he is dead, so they
look in his pockets and find a sheet of paper full of colors. Without a thought, they toss it to the
ground. Little do they know, that that paper was what his wife sent him, asking what color tile they
should have. Danny looks down past his knife. The Tile samples page has fallen out of his pocket.
Blood stained. Danny stares at the paper. (Berg84)

November 21, 2016
According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases
characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The
chronic hyperglycemia associated with diabetes results in failure of various organs including eyes,
kidneys, heart, and blood vessels (American Diabetes Association, 2016). Possible complications of
diabetes include heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, leg amputation, vision loss, nerve damage, and
premature death (World Health Organization, 2016).
The databases for the Centers for Disease Control and Protection, World Health Organization,
National Institute of Health, National Vital Statistics Survey, and Kentucky Data Warehouse and
Kentucky Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System were reviewed for datasets and information for
diabetes mellitus.
Globally, an estimated 422 million adults were living with diabetes in 2014. The prevalence of
diabetes has nearly doubled since 1980, rising from 4.7% to 8.5% in adult population. In the past ten
years, diabetes prevalence has risen faster in low and middle income countries in comparison to high
income countries. Diabetes is responsible for 1.5 million deaths in 2012 (World Health Organization,
2016).

The Philosophies Of The Philosopher Socrates
James Joiner
PHI150
21 March 2017
Socrates
This paper will examine, in two parts, the worldviews of the philosopher Socrates. The first part will
examine four of his worldviews using evidence from The Apology, The Crito, and The Phaedo, all
written by Plato and depicting dialogues from Socrates. The first section of the paper will also use
supplementary analysis from Socrates by George Rudebusch. The second section of this paper will be
a critique of Socrate s worldviews.
Part 1: Socrates Worldview
Knowledge
In the Apology, Socrates states ...that real wisdom is the property of the god, and this oracle is his way
of telling us that human wisdom has little or no value (Apology 23a). Upon hearing that the god at
Delphi had pronounced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates believed wisdom to be of the utmost importance, essentially saying that without it, the soul is
incomplete.
Condition
No one knows with regards to death whether it is not really the greatest blessing that can happen to a
man; but people dread it as though they were certain that it is the greatest evil (Apology 29a). In his
explanation of wisdom and knowledge, Socrates also reveals his worldview of the human condition.
Socrates states that those who fear death are foolish because there is no possible way to know what it
really holds. He believed that there were things far worse than death. Included among these were
ignorance and foolishness. This ties in with his worldview of knowledge as he went to great lengths to
seek out a person with more knowledge than himself, an act that defies ignorance according to his
definition. Socrates believed that an ignorant life was not a life worth living. When he revealed the
ignorance of the politicians, poets, and craftsmen, they were upset, further showing their ignorance in
that they were offended in Socrates attempting to impart some wisdom on them. He further states, I
only wish that ordinary people had an unlimited capacity for doing harm; that would mean that they
had an unlimited power for doing good, which would be a splendid thing. In fact they have neither.
They cannot make a man wise or foolish (Crito 44d). This further imparts Socrates belief that the

The Theory Of The Human Development
Part 1: Of the four major psychological theories (ecological, behavioral, humanistic, psychoanalytic),
which one(s) is/are most closely aligned with your personal belief system? All four major
Psychological theories are very significant, but based on my reading about all of them, I can convey
that the ecological theory is the most closely aligned with my personal belief system. Part 2:
Why?
I chose this theory because it states that a person s development is influenced by everything in the
surrounding environment, such as: family values, home, peers, school, and neighborhood, among
others biological factors that play the dynamic roles in the human development. I will try to explain it
in a more simply way....and to be honest, I don t truly like the way the books describes it. It was
formulated by the renowned psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner. The ecological systems theory
embraces that we encounter diverse environments throughout our lifespan that may influence our
behavior in varying points. These systems consist of different aspects or levels of the environment: the
microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem and the macrosystem.
The microsystem s setting is the direct surroundings, we have in our lives and it is the small, close
environment a child subsists in. The ecological theory alleged that everything around a specific
student cause influence in his behavior. As a teacher, we have little or no control over all the systems
mentioned in this theory. However, we can

Essay on Comparative Analysis of Art
Art History
Professor
November 2012
Throughout history art has served as a preservation and representation of the time in which they were
made. During the Ancient Greek period art was not only mare naturalistic and humanistic but also
became directly affected by the events going around. Both the Marble Statue of an Old Woman and
the Marble Statue of Aphrodite are sculptures that were made during the Ancient Greek era, they each
tell a story of what was going on during that point in time.
The Marble Statue of Aphrodite is the eldest of the two sculptures, it was sculpted between the 2nd
and 3rd century B .C. During this period Greece was at its peak, the people of Greece had power and
wealth. The art made at this time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason why the arms have fallen off is because, unlike the major societies before them,
Greeks believed in humanistic art. Societies before the Greeks, such as the Egyptians, used to keep the
material between what would be spaces between arms and body and the legs. This form of art was not
humanistic not realistic enough for the Greeks so most of their artwork follows the ideals of
humanism. Artists would break off the extra material that would remain after the statue was fully
sculpted. To further the realistic look of the Aphrodite sculpture the artist, who is unknown at this
time, detailed the curves of her body. You can view the lines of her stomach and breasts which are
simple and uncomplicated and create an image that looks like a real woman.
Greeks continued with the ideas of humanism and realism even as their society aged and changed.
Like many great societies before them Greeks hit a climactic point in their era that had people uneasy
and artist evolving away from the artistic norms that had been practiced for years; this new era was
known as the Hellenistic Period. The Sculpture of an Old Woman is an example of this radical change
in art; still loyal to the idea of humanism this sculpture is not of a goddess or soldier, as many arts
were based on before, it was of a normal average, everyday elder woman who could have simply been
walking down the street. Not only did the artist stray away from the norms of subject matter but they

For example, one of the stories featured on the front page, Veterans Feel the Cost of U.S. Nuclear

The New York Times discusses prominent news from across the globe, which is important in the ever
connected world that we live in today. For example, in the article Ten Centuries Later, a Pope and
Knights Do Battle , the Times discusses the conflict in interests between Pope Francis and the Knights
of Malta that resulted in the Pope demanding the leader s resignation. Other international issues are
spoken about in the article Europe s Overlapping Crises , which discusses some of the biggest
problems that Europe faces as a whole, such as the results of Brexit, economic relief in Greece, and
the spread of America s new sense of nationalism to other countries. These are big, doting questions
that will affect Europe today and in the future. On a lighter note, the article Committed is a celebration
of 165 years of wedding announcements and gives us an in depth look at the marriage of Sarah and
John Grant, the first couple to have their wedding announcement in the Times. Lastly, the Times also
covers the death of the actor John Hurt, which was also one of Facebook s trending topics for the day.
These international articles are not always big topics in the United States unless they directly affect us

Global Perspectives Essay
My first experience of Global Perspectives was in the lecture hall where we did anonymous voting. It
was really interesting to me, seeing that so many people actually had the same opinion as me in the
many aspects in which we voted on. I noticed that every person had a different back story, since we all
come from so many different countries around the world. Someone felt very strongly about allowing
refugees into countries because it hit home with them, and it s amazing to see someone else s
perspective in that way. I think the way I come off with help from others around me will broaden my
horizons, and will broaden their views too. I hope that in my time at Regent s University London I
develop globally, seeing that it is such a global university. I think that is a universal trait that can be
used in any career field. It makes sense to me to realize, and to learn about the different perspectives
people have from all over the world because it is important to our future. I obviously hope to learn a
lot here, to make global connections, and develop more skills within Fashion Marketing with hope to
land a job in New York City once I graduate in three years. I hope to go back to my home country with
perspectives that will help me to see things open minded and objectively before coming to a
conclusion. I hope that others will be able to learn from my journey too. It was interesting to go over
many controversial discussions. A discussion that was very interesting to me, was Cake

The Environment And Sustainable Development Essay
Living sustainably isn t always easy. It seems that every aspect of life can be looked at from a
sustainable perspective, and when trying to reduce your ecological footprint this can be very
overwhelming. Previously, I believed that our values must be redefined to live sustainably, However,
this series of lecture reflections made me realize that instead of changing our values to live
sustainably, we must apply our current values in a sustainable way! Elizabeth Mrema is an
environmental activist who uses her passion of law to help sustain the environment. Sharon Clark is a
principle at the office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development
(CESD), and uses her background in political science to examine the government s impact on the
environment. Finally, graduates of Dalhousie s Sustainability program explain where their degree in
sustainability has taken them. Through the stories of people who have applied sustainability to things
they are passionate about, I have realized that we do not have to change our values to be sustainable.
Sustainable living can be achieved when we combine our passions with sustainability. Elizabeth
Mrema is passionate about law, and has an expertise in environmental law. She explains how
environmental law has developed, and how governments must change the way they protect the
environment. The government s role in protecting the environment became apparent in the 1930 s

Essay On Radiotherapy And Chemotherapy
Cancer can be defined as an uncontrollable division of cells in the body, and untreated cancer can lead
to serious illness, tumors and death. Cancer related to head and neck is the most difficult to treat
because it has a direct impact on the central nervous system. Radiotherapy is used to treat head and
neck cancer, and the treatment can be combined with chemotherapy. Radiotherapy or radiation therapy
uses radiation while chemotherapy is the treatment that uses chemical agents to destroy the cancer
cells. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy have been associated with effects like seizures, suppression of
cell growth and cognitive impairment (Dietrich et al., 2006). The brain scans of the patients after
receiving a few years of treatment show a decline in white matter in the brain. (Bharatha et al., 2012)

Politica Political Corruption
The modern period of literature was a conglomerate of emotion and feeling from many different
aspects of everyday life. The art, many of which came from the Harlem Renaissance, embodied the
struggle to make ends meet in the newly industrialized cities. Literature broke the floodgates on
exposing some of the greatest scandals and power struggles ever faced in this nation. Poetry was the
unheard voice championing the early civil rights movement, long before Martin Luther King Jr. or
Malcolm X were even in elementary school. With these great accomplishments came some of the
longest lasting impressions on today s literature and culture. Today, just the same as at the turn of the
century, the wealthy are unaware of how truly destitute the working class is becoming, let alone the
poverty stricken. Art, then and now, sheds light on the darkest corners of our nation that have been
mostly unseen. Taking their lead from the first modern artists, people are demonstrating just how
desperate times are through creative works. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Since the design in the fashion industry rarely creates a new process, machine or manufactures, they
have a separate statute specifically for them for new, original and ornamental design for an article of

Color and design must be associated by the customer for that particular product over time.

trademark infringement, trademark dilution, as well as unfair competition and false designation.
Trademark infringement harbors a manufacturer or seller s product to include a word, slogan or

family and the curse which haunts their fates. Although the Pyncheons are a respected family in their
small Massachusetts town, their past is riddled with secrets, mysterious deaths, and the curse of a
dying man. Few in the family ever believed in the curse, giving the generational disasters of the family
the name of coincidental misfortunes, the simple results of human action. And, while the author
attempts to explain away these coincidences with logic and science, he also conveys mysterious hints
as to the supernatural phenomena existing within the house of the seven gables. Because of the

Appearing to have lain dormant for several decades, the cures again revives itself in the death of Old
Jaffrey Pyncheon, the prodigious uncle of the last remaining Pyncheons. Said to have been murdered
by a nephew, Old Jaffrey was found in the same manner as his venerable ancestor, with blood upon his
collar. Coupled with the author s expert style, these events may seem a consequence of the haunting
family curse. However, as the story unfolds, we learn that the old uncle was not murdered, but died of
fright, or anger, when he caught his greedy nephew attempting to secure the family fortune for
himself. Similarly, the death of Alice Pyncheon was a result of her father s greed, when he sacrificed
his daughter s happiness in return for material wealth. The mysterious plot style forces us to consider
the possibility of Maule s curse as the evil force behind the tribulation of the Pyncheons. However,
when considering the facts of each mystery, and the circumstances which caused the victims demise ,
it seems as though greed and avarice are the rational source and the perpetrators simply received the
ultimate punishment for their crimes.
The Pyncheon history is steeped in horror and death, because of Maule s curse and the greed of men,
but even after their horrible past, the curse is defeated in the kindness of a few. Hepzibah, her brother

False Dichotomy
Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will
be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.
(Luke 6:38 NKJV)
After reading Kapic s A Little Book for New Theologian, a false dichotomy that I have come across
throughout many churches and the body of Christ is the dilemma between giving and receiving. Many
people are so concerned with their treasures on Earth, that they will do whatever it takes to maintain
that treasure. Furthermore, pride gets in the way of individuals receiving the blessings of the Lord
mainly because they do not know how to receive. The church has those individuals who do not want
to give, but there are also many people who do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kapic (2012, 52) states the faith to receive and submit to divine revelation is not acquired at the
conclusion of syllogistic exercise; it is a gift from God. Everyone struggles with something. However,
the church does not seek assistance because it would be viewed negatively, or that individual has too
much pride to receive something that they, or their family, needs. My argument would be if we do not
allow ourselves to be put in a position to receive from others, then we can never receive God s many
blessings either.
In order to resolve the false dichotomy between giving and receiving, I think individuals need to
recognize the importance of having a healthy balance of both ideals. It s important as followers of
Christ to know how to both give and receive of our time, money, energy, talents, etc. Additionally, I
think the dichotomy can be resolved by recognizing a weakness or lack of understanding in one of the
two ideals. If a church or an individual is able to give without question but has a problem receiving ,
then that church or individual needs to focus on that ideal to resolve the

The Importance Of Perseverance In Rita Hayworth And The...
Perseverance, the motivation of doing something that consists of difficult objectives or something can
set back the main course of achieving a task. A novella about two convicted inmates and how one
gutsy inmate named Andy Dufresne escapes the Shawshank Prison. His buddy Red had run alongside
his decision and helped him through it, even though Red was the only one in the prison to truthfully
admit that Andy did not do it. Andy did not kill his wife and her lover. Elwood Blatch had committed
the crime. Elwood was a former cellmate of Tommy Williams in another prison, and Elwood would
like to brag about such crimes he committed and Tommy was present at the time of his confession. So
Tommy then later informed Andy about it in the Shawshank State Prison. In Rita Hayworth and the

present in this novella, and present in most of the characters. Their motivation and determination

people bring a variation of beliefs to the therapeutic setting such as communicating what issues to

is culture that bears on whether or not an individual will seek help. For example there is a widespread

Attitudes toward Individual Therapy in Argentina and Japan Attitudes of psychotherapy differ from
culture to culture. There are over 60,000 psychologists in Argentina (Stevens, Gielen, 2007). Therapy
is widely accepted among the people in Argentina especially in amongst the middle class. Many feel
this is due to the violent past of unrest in the country and search for identity (Tango and Analysis,
2008). On the other hand in Japan the Japanese people in general are not familiar or relate to the
concepts of psychotherapy (Nippoda, 2002). The image of counseling in Japan is advice or answers to
given to a particular problem and mental illness is treated by more of a medical model (Nippoda,
2002). The attitudes are quite different yet the goals of psychotherapy are similar. In Argentina the
goals of psychotherapy seem to be a quest for identity and a sense of self. For the Japanese the result
of psychotherapy is the sense of independence, discovering equality in relationships and finding
authority within themselves (Nippoda, 2002). A sense of self seems to be the theme for both cultures
yet those from Argentina may continue the process longer since finding meaning of life is a part of the
culture.

called and calls himself many names, which symbolize, in a way, how lost he feels within himself and
his own life. The aim of this essay is to analyze each of those names, and see how they affect Wilhelm
s view of himself and his actions. Firstly, his real name, Wilhelm Adler, is the one he tries to detach ...

His father behaved toward his son as he had formerly done with his patients (Bellow, 11), or, at least,
this was the case from Wilhelm s point of view. His father doesn t want to help him solve his
problems, but feels he has to because Wilhelm is his son. However, there s a big contrasts between
how Dr Adler communicates with his son and the way in which he talks about Wilhelm to other
people. He cares a lot about keeping his reputation intact, and a son with no career or future would
make his friends and people he knows think less of him. This makes Wilhelm feel like an object, as
Bellow shows when he writes It s Dad, thought Wilhelm, who is the salesman. He s selling me. (13)
Dr Adler doesn t exactly lie to the people he talks about Wilhelm to, but he doesn t tell the truth either.
For example, he talks about business that Wilhelm has been a part of as if these were happening right
now, instead of ten or twenty years ago. He makes excuses as to why his son left school, instead of
accepting the truth of his lack of commitment or

Nabokov Point Of View
Nabokov discusses the three points of view he believes an author can write from: the storyteller, the
teacher, and the enchanter. In his last three paragraphs he describes each point of view; he starts with
storyteller. In the second to last paragraph, Nabokov begins expressing his storyteller; he believes the
storyteller remains simple. Readers appreciate the magical little world the author sets up; this type of
point of view only amuses the audience with minimal emotional involvement. Children s books are a
great example of a storyteller approach; it is simplistic and may have meaning to its story. Because
children do not necessarily need major life lessons, they appreciate more of the whimsical aspect of
fictional books. Next is the teacher;

The Most Dangerous Game Essay
The Most Dangerous Game Essay How would it feel to suddenly go from being the hunter to
becoming the prey? That is exactly what happened to Rainsford, one of the main characters in The
Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell. Rainsford was a big game hunter who accidentally fell of
of his yacht. He swam to a nearby island, and there he met General Zaroff, a cruel man who hunts
humans for sport. In exchange for release from the island, Rainsford agrees to be hunted by Zaroff.
Consequently, Rainsford is a survivor because he kills Zaroff and wins the game. Rainsford is also a
survivor because he demonstrates the qualities that a person must have to be considered a survivor.
Although Rainsford is a survivor, Zaroff is not. To be considered a survivor, a person must go through
a traumatic or life threatening experience but still demonstrate resilience and determination. Holly
FitzGerald, Fitz FitzGerald and Lexi Youngberg all demonstrate that they are survivors because they
show resilience and determination. Holly and Fitz FitzGerald were boating down the Amazon River
when they were thrown into a swamp in the middle of a storm. They were unable to paddle out and
they also could not contact anyone for help. However, they survived by eating frogs and snails and
drinking dirty river water. They were eventually found by a group of natives and they were nursed
back to health (Boston Globe). The FitzGeralds are considered survivors because they did not give up,
even when they had

  • 3. Colonel Edwin Hillandale, An Air Force Officer Another character providing a keen understanding of the SOF Imperatives was Colonel Hillandale. Colonel Edwin Hillandale was an Air Force officer assigned as a liaison in the Philippines. In the course of his duties, he began working with Ramon Magsaysay. Magsaysay was having difficulty with his campaign efforts in a communist held province. This led Hillandale to assist Magsaysay in his efforts. Hillandale refutes the communist messaging of Americans being rich elitists who care who do not care about Filipinos. He accomplishes this by eating the local food, being fluent in their language and by displaying a great knowledge of their culture. He also uses his musical talents to attract a larger audience to hear his message. He told the local Filipinos he could not afford a meal because the bulk of his paycheck went to supporting his family, much like the Filipinos themselves. He played to the cultural obligations of the Filipino people saying he had never met a Filipino who would not feed a hungry man. This comment prompted all of the villagers to volunteer to feed him. He continued his engagements for a few weeks. After the Filipinos met and identified with Hillandale, they no longer believed the anti American propaganda spread by the Russians. Thanks to Hillandale s efforts, Magsaysay enjoyed a landslide victory in the province. Hillandale use of the SOF imperatives made it easy for him to achieve his goals. • 4. What Is A Political Allegory In Lord Of The Flies World War II caused an amount of destruction and harm that no human being had ever seen before, many were disgusted and outraged by the results of this war. It was a very memorable event; one that authors tend to write about a lot, even to this day. One author in particular, WIlliam Golding, uses his world famous piece of literature Lord of the Flies as a political allegory to World War 2. In his classic novel, he shows little boys who are flown out to avoid the danger of being bombed and become trapped on an island. While they are trapped, the boys develop separate ways of leading each other which leads to conflict and violence, similar to the governments in which were clashing with each other during World War 2 at the time. Through the differences of these boys, Golding shows to us how they relate to the major leaders of World War 2 (Hitler, Franklin Roosevelt, and Neville Chamberlain), and how democracy is the best way to govern people. Hitler was the ruler of Germany during World War II, and he ruled over his people in fear. Jack is commonly described to being similar if not exactly like Hitler. Golding leaves many examples in the novel to show how Jack and Hitler are alike. Both of them promised their citizens a better life, they both promise their country meat (Golding 140), and they both lead as a dictator, taking their power with force and leading as the only chief of the state. Jack is described in the book as a terror (Golding 189) and Hitler has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American universities, most of them, offer fall term and spring term enrollments, and some schools even offer winter term or summer term enrollments as well. When they make a decision of whether to admit an applicant, they consider the applicant s GPA and SAT score, and sometimes give privileges to students who demonstrate their achievements on extra curricula activities. Students can take courses on fall term and spring term at semester system schools, and fall term, winter term and spring term at quarter system schools. Many schools offer a summer session for students as well. Therefore, each student would have their unique class schedule and course roadmap based on their own preference. On the contrary, Chinese universities have a very different system called academic year system, which means students graduate when they finish certain years of study. By this system, students are required to declare their majors very early in which on the application form when they apply for the school. Since the major is decided, students have to follow the school made course roadmap to take most of the courses. Students in Chinese universities may have a few choices on choosing a different instructor or different class time for the general education classes, but they have very limited choices for the major classes. Moreover, all the universities in China do not offer summer session. Consequently, in most circumstances, same major students who enrolled in the school in the same year probably have same class schedule each semester, especially on junior and senior level. • 7. Commercial Fishing In New England Commercial fishing in New England is not sustainable. Commercial fishing is the catching of fish for profit and, as with other profit making activities, there are trade offs between a pure capitalistic market and the damage it does to resources. For commercial fishing, this trade off is that the more fish the fishermen catch, the more damage it does to the fish population. To make commercial fishing sustainable, large regulations need to be in place, as Jack said. However, large regulations of a free market are usually not accepted in America and would not be put in place in time to save the fish and sustain commercial fishing. The population of many fish species have decreased drastically through the years and, even with current regulations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of Capitalism according to Merriam Webster is an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a Free Market. This means that the free market, or in this case commercial fishing, is not controlled by the government because that is the definition of capitalism. Having big restrictions on fishing would be seen as a restriction of the free market. Although regulations are put on the free market, the size of regulations needed to sustain fish population and save commercial fishing would not be tolerated by many political parties. The regulations would never be put in place. Unless America changes its capitalist view, the large regulations needed to sustain commercial fishing will not happen. The changes needed for sustainable fishing are too big and do not fit with America s view of the economic system. Unfortunately, without these changes, the fish population will continue to decline. So, you can see that sustainable fishing in new England is not possible. Although New England and the US cannot have sustainable fishing because of their capitalistic values, as shown throughout history their values may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These movies were typically filmed on location meaning not in a studio but rather at a real place and used nonprofessional actors. The films themselves contended with the difficulty of life post World War II. The early films were about social issues and war. Director Roberto Rossellini s created a movie during the Neorealist time called Rome Open City which was released in 1945. The movie shows a deeply moving portrait of Rome during the last couple years of the war, with Germany occupying the city and Allied forces slowly closing in. The film was made on whatever film stock Rossellini could gather up in the post war Italian economy. It was shot in the streets of Rome with a kind of documentary realism that would show an even greater impact to this story. Rome Open City for me personally was a very amusing movie to watch because I ve never watched a foreign movie before and it was something different to see especially back in 1945 when the war was going on. For me it s incredible how this movie did so well during a time of tragedy and yet movies here not in the US can t even get a decent rating. I did on the other hand have a bit of a hard time following the movie because the lyrics that were given to the movie in english weren t that amazing I feel like if I spoke Italian or if it was remastered into a english film then i d love it even more. The film was divided into two parts. The first half focused on the daily lives of the resistance fighters living in Rome. Francesco works for a communist newspaper, he also helps a group of militant anti Nazi fighters, led by his friend Giorgio. Francesco s fiancée, the Pina is involved in the struggle as well she helps create riots against the shops that control food rations and keep the people of the city from getting enough to eat. One of the major things I loved about this film was how Rossellini balances the film s darker moments with surprising humorous touches, especially when using the priest Don Pietro. The Part that ... • 10. Essay about New Urbanism New Urbanism New Urbanism, a burgeoning genre of architecture and city planning, is a movement that has come about only in the past decade. This movement is a response to the proliferation of conventional suburban development (CSD), the most popular form of suburban expansion that has taken place since World War II. Wrote Robert Steuteville, Lacking a town center or pedestrian scale, CSD spreads out to consume large areas of countryside even as population grows relatively slowly. Automobile use per capita has soared, because a motor vehicle is required for nearly all human transportation 1. New Urbanism, therefore, represents the converse of this planning ideology. An oasis of good planning in a sea of suburbia, it is not only a model of Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND) but also the predecessor to many other such neighborhoods developed within CSD areas. In Kentlands, much like Seaside, the Citizens Assembly runs a recreation center and provides for common maintenance of public areas. Civic buildings and shopping in mixed use buildings are within walking distance of the development s six architecturally distinct neighborhoods. This compact design reduces auto traffic significantly, allows children to go about their daily business without requiring a mother chauffeur and puts workplaces near their employees.5 Unique character is worked into the community s design wherever possible: Kentlands has idiosyncrasy and imperfections intentionally. Authentic variety is achieved by allowing odd, leftover lots to remain, forcing the design of a building for just that lot. We insisted that the imprecision of design sketches be reflected in the built work. It took years for the engineers to get used to not straightening every street or making every ... (Homer77) In Lone Survivor, and The Odyssey, men must make the difficult journey home, struggling through many obstacles and hardships. These sources are very different, but they also hold some similarities such as obstacles, desire, and a sense of duty. In the beginning of Lone Survivor, four men undertake a mission to take down the leader of the Taliban. They finally reach the mountain above where the village is located, and immediately spots the Taliban leader. Mike Murphy, their lutenaint, says to move up higher into the trees. While resting, they awake to the sound of goat bells, and take the three Taliban sheepherders as prisoners for the moment. They find a walkie talkie, and Mike, and his men, start arguing over the right thing to do, to kill the men, tie them up and let them die on their own, or to release them and move up. They argue as to whether or not to follow their rules of engagement, and not kill unless fired upon, or do just kill them. Finally, they decide to let them go, and follow the rules of engagement. If we kill these kids, it s International news. CNN doesn t care about Rules of Engagement. SEALs kill kids. That s the story. Forever. Let them go. Shut it down. (Berg52) Everybody has something they want. For the characters in The Odyssey, and Lone Survivor, they only want one thing; to get home to their loved ones. The beginning of Lone Survivor starts out with Mike Murphey looking at an Arabian horse that his girlfriend really wants as a wedding gift. Odysseus wants to be home, and away from the terrible waters of the sea (Homer179) In the middle of the book, Danny, one of the Seals in the mission, falls to the ground, shot. The Taliban think he is dead, so they look in his pockets and find a sheet of paper full of colors. Without a thought, they toss it to the ground. Condition No one knows with regards to death whether it is not really the greatest blessing that can happen to a man; but people dread it as though they were certain that it is the greatest evil (Apology 29a). In his explanation of wisdom and knowledge, Socrates also reveals his worldview of the human condition. Socrates states that those who fear death are foolish because there is no possible way to know what it really holds. He believed that there were things far worse than death. Included among these were ignorance and foolishness. This ties in with his worldview of knowledge as he went to great lengths to seek out a person with more knowledge than himself, an act that defies ignorance according to his definition. Socrates believed that an ignorant life was not a life worth living. When he revealed the ignorance of the politicians, poets, and craftsmen, they were upset, further showing their ignorance in that they were offended in Socrates attempting to impart some wisdom on them. He further states, I only wish that ordinary people had an unlimited capacity for doing harm; that would mean that they had an unlimited power for doing good, which would be a splendid thing. In fact they have neither. They cannot make a man wise or foolish (Crito 44d). This further imparts Socrates belief that the human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Theory Of The Human Development Part 1: Of the four major psychological theories (ecological, behavioral, humanistic, psychoanalytic), which one(s) is/are most closely aligned with your personal belief system? All four major Psychological theories are very significant, but based on my reading about all of them, I can convey that the ecological theory is the most closely aligned with my personal belief system. Part 2: Why? I chose this theory because it states that a person s development is influenced by everything in the surrounding environment, such as: family values, home, peers, school, and neighborhood, among others biological factors that play the dynamic roles in the human development. I will try to explain it in a more simply way....and to be honest, I don t truly like the way the books describes it. It was formulated by the renowned psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner. The ecological systems theory embraces that we encounter diverse environments throughout our lifespan that may influence our behavior in varying points. These systems consist of different aspects or levels of the environment: the microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem and the macrosystem. The microsystem s setting is the direct surroundings, we have in our lives and it is the small, close environment a child subsists in. The ecological theory alleged that everything around a specific student cause influence in his behavior. As a teacher, we have little or no control over all the systems mentioned in this theory. The House of The Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne chronicles the generations of a Puritan family and the curse which haunts their fates. Although the Pyncheons are a respected family in their small Massachusetts town, their past is riddled with secrets, mysterious deaths, and the curse of a dying man. Few in the family ever believed in the curse, giving the generational disasters of the family the name of coincidental misfortunes, the simple results of human action. And, while the author attempts to explain away these coincidences with logic and science, he also conveys mysterious hints as to the supernatural phenomena existing within the house of the seven gables. Appearing to have lain dormant for several decades, the cures again revives itself in the death of Old Jaffrey Pyncheon, the prodigious uncle of the last remaining Pyncheons. Said to have been murdered by a nephew, Old Jaffrey was found in the same manner as his venerable ancestor, with blood upon his collar. Coupled with the author s expert style, these events may seem a consequence of the haunting family curse. However, as the story unfolds, we learn that the old uncle was not murdered, but died of fright, or anger, when he caught his greedy nephew attempting to secure the family fortune for himself. Similarly, the death of Alice Pyncheon was a result of her father s greed, when he sacrificed his daughter s happiness in return for material wealth. The mysterious plot style forces us to consider the possibility of Maule s curse as the evil force behind the tribulation of the Pyncheons. However, when considering the facts of each mystery, and the circumstances which caused the victims demise , it seems as though greed and avarice are the rational source and the perpetrators simply received the ultimate punishment for their crimes. The Pyncheon history is steeped in horror and death, because of Maule s curse and the greed of men, but even after their horrible past, the curse is defeated in the kindness of a few. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38 NKJV) After reading Kapic s A Little Book for New Theologian, a false dichotomy that I have come across throughout many churches and the body of Christ is the dilemma between giving and receiving. Many people are so concerned with their treasures on Earth, that they will do whatever it takes to maintain that treasure. Furthermore, pride gets in the way of individuals receiving the blessings of the Lord mainly because they do not know how to receive. Kapic (2012, 52) states the faith to receive and submit to divine revelation is not acquired at the conclusion of syllogistic exercise; it is a gift from God. Everyone struggles with something. However, the church does not seek assistance because it would be viewed negatively, or that individual has too much pride to receive something that they, or their family, needs. My argument would be if we do not allow ourselves to be put in a position to receive from others, then we can never receive God s many blessings either. In order to resolve the false dichotomy between giving and receiving, I think individuals need to recognize the importance of having a healthy balance of both ideals. It s important as followers of Christ to know how to both give and receive of our time, money, energy, talents, etc. Additionally, I think the dichotomy can be resolved by recognizing a weakness or lack of understanding in one of the two ideals. If a church or an individual is able to give without question but has a problem receiving , then that church or individual needs to focus on that ideal to resolve the ... Attitudes toward Individual Therapy in Argentina and Japan Attitudes of psychotherapy differ from culture to culture. There are over 60,000 psychologists in Argentina (Stevens, Gielen, 2007). Therapy is widely accepted among the people in Argentina especially in amongst the middle class. Many feel this is due to the violent past of unrest in the country and search for identity (Tango and Analysis, 2008). On the other hand in Japan the Japanese people in general are not familiar or relate to the concepts of psychotherapy (Nippoda, 2002). The image of counseling in Japan is advice or answers to given to a particular problem and mental illness is treated by more of a medical model (Nippoda, 2002). The attitudes are quite different yet the goals of psychotherapy are similar. In Argentina the goals of psychotherapy seem to be a quest for identity and a sense of self. For the Japanese the result of psychotherapy is the sense of independence, discovering equality in relationships and finding authority within themselves (Nippoda, 2002).
