Bird And Magic Johnson In The Myth Of The Amateurs
In Yago Colás s The Myth of the Amateurs, he explores the fascinating racial dynamic the pairing of
Larry Bird and Magic Johnson represented. On the surface, this white and black pair was worlds apart,
as Colás pointed out the shy and reserved Bird was praised...for his effort, concentration, guts, and
unselfishness (89), compared to the outgoing and perpetually smiling, Johnson, who became the
embodiment of Showtime (90). However, Bird and Johnson weren t actually all that different both
were playmaking, intelligent, flashy, players who were small town boys...still close to [their]
families...teachers...former coaches...and the people [they] grew up with (92). A similar dynamic
dominates much of the narrative in White Men Can t Jump, summarized by Billy Hoyle, the main
protagonist of the film: A white man wants to win, then look good. A black man wants to look good,
then win (1:10:50). On the surface, his claim is not too far fetched. Although we see Billy s fair share
of flashy plays, like no look backwards passes (11:53, 1:43:19), and an alley oop dunk (1:47:05), they
pale in comparison to the flashy plays of Sidney, his partner, one of ... Show more content on

Similarities Between Blurred Lines And Marvin Gaye
Blurred Lines and Marvin Gaye In 2013, the song Blurred Lines was released by Robin Thicke. The
song was a huge number one hit in America. However, many individuals felt that Blurred Lines eerily
resembled the song Got to Give it Up by Marvin Gaye. The similarities between the two songs
eventually brought about a lawsuit amongst Robin Thicke, along with Pharrell Williams, and Marvin
Gaye s family. When the case was taken to court, the jury determined that Robin Thicke and Pharrell
Williams had in fact committed an act of plagiarism. The case granted Marvin Gaye s children a large
sum of cash due to the money earned from Blurred Lines , and the artists associated with the song,

Prejudice In The Swing Era
The swing era was vast and equally varietal. From Benny Goodman to Chick Webb or Artie Shaw
each had their individual sound . Moreover, this separated them and gave them their own appeal to the
masses. However, The swing era occurred at a time when racism and prejudice still had a strong
foothold in public eye. While playing swing did allow a member of a minority to have some freedom
from this prejudice, they still could not expect the same treatment as the white players. In The Swing
Era: Pure Pleasure swing was described as an escape for people who are down on their luck.
Moreover, Swing gave people hope and a place to break free and forget about your trouble. This is
most likely why swing climbed so aggressively into popular culture. Swing was not just a type of
music; it was a lifestyle. The bands that toured lived a breathed swing. Some bands would have to
sleep in their bus or car because they could not afford to get a room. They would either sleep in the
bus or go out and look for a home that was willing to be shared for the night. Bands would sometimes
be fed and sheltered by these families. The video said that these families were not ... Show more

Black talents were often paid considerably less, barred from cafes, and often could not sleep or eat in
the hotel in which they were performing. Teddy Wilson was only allowed to record with Benny
Goodman but he was black and Benny thought playing in public with him could hurt his career. The
narrator stated the music might be colorblind but the country is not. However, he eventually allowed
him to step into the limelight and Benny described that show as one of the bests. Even though racism
was heavy swing music still gave the minorities a place to go where they were judged based off the
music they played and not their skin color. For example, Chick Webb was a black hunchback but he
played his music with so much energy and talent that no one

Examples Of Poverty In America
Poverty in America: Is the American Dream an Impossible One? America, a land full of promises that
are not granted elsewhere. Recently what many refer to as the American Dream is becoming an
impossible dream. For the reason that, people now cannot get ahead in life financially, students are
having a debt that is holding them back, and medical care is becoming unaffordable. Money seems to
be one of the problems in reaching that dream. Financially, the people are struggling to reach that
dream. According to the Oxford Journals, The middle class has not seen it wage rise in 15 years...the
middle class in this nation is falling . The middle class has fallen ever since a crisis in 2008 that is
making that dream disappear slowly. On top of the middle class having problem the rate of income has
gone up. Profits rose five times faster than wages , was a comment Goldman Sachs said about the
rising of income. In the financial part of the world the American dream is becoming an endless road.

Belize Barrier Reef Essay
Glover s Reef is a part of the second largest reef system in the world, the Belize Reef. In recent years,
mostly due to tourism growth and the respective development for the tourists, ocean pollution has
damaged many of species that live in Belize Reef. While the government has imposed a national
reservation on the area that protects it from human destruction, it simply has not had the effect
expected. On the Glover Reef, a research facility was created to gain a better understand of coral in
the area and the best way to protect it. The hopeful future is that the research project gives scientist
insight on how to protect the entirety of the Belize Barrier Reef System.
Belize Barrier Reef System
The Belize Barrier Reef consists of multiple coral reefs on the coast of Belize. This reef is known as
the most remarkable reef in the West Indies due to its large diversity of organisms and ecosystems.
(Darwin). It is home to around 70 hard coral species, 36 soft coral species, and over 500 species of
fish. The second largest coral reef system in the entire world is also the top tourist destination in all of
Belize and is attractive for scuba diving and snorkeling. The 260 meter reef attracts around 260,000
visitors on an annual basis. Many tourists enjoy scuba diving near the reefs especially at the Blue
Hole, which is an underwater sinkhole. The Mayans and the current people used the area for fishing as
a variety of fish species live in the water. Due to the tourist

One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Speech Act Theory Essay
Ken Kesey forms the intricate relationships among the characters in the novel One Flew Over the
Cuckoo s Nest by the unique use of perspective and speech. Throughout the novel, Kesey depicts this
connection between the public world and the seemingly closed off society inside the mental
institution. This creates two separate spheres separated by a few walls and doors. Kesey goes on to
form a unique perspective in the novel, told by a paranoid schizophrenic, with the narrator s caricature
like description of characters in the novel. This makes the audience ponder if the narrator is always
depicting images as they truly are. This evolves into the Speech Act Theory, which illustrates reality
versus false utterance. Through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Burke, a critical analyzer of the novel, characterized this by the act of drama . Specifically, dramatism
focuses on how we use language and create both real life and fictional narratives to present a
particular view of a situation, just as a play creates and presents a certain world or situation inhabited
by characters in the play (Rutten, 2012). Through the act of dramatism, the interactions in the novel
are shaped. This act of dramatizing insanity separates the social spheres of the normal and the insane
creating a social distinction between the two parties. They are perceived differently and immediately
receive a warning label when they are viewed as insane . Humans form this stereotype through our
adjusted, fixed attitudes towards people who are disabled . Rutten states A rhetorical perspective (on
the word disabled ) essentially enables an understanding of the complexity of impairment and
disability as a cultural/discursive as well as a social and structural phenomenon (Rutten, 2012). This
shows how society tends to suppress those who have mental illnesses and ignore them. They are
locked away in a mental institution, shielded from the public eye. The Speech Act Theory comes into
play when viewing the certain utterances said by patients in the mental institution. The theory focuses
on the distinction between performative and constative utterances (Bernaerts, 2010). Performative
utterances are

Persuasive Essay On The Lottery
If you live in the United States of America then you know exactly what the Powerball is. Essentially, it
is an American lottery game offered around forty four states in the United States of America. Every
day millions of people are competing to buy lottery tickets from anywhere that they can find them.
This includes gas stations, grocery stores, and even in malls. The sad thing about this lottery game is
that most of the income from the lottery ticket goes straight back to the state where you bought your
ticket from. When a Powerball ticket is bought, around fifty to sixty five percent of the two dollars
goes to the prize money. While less than a dime, goes to running the lottery and twelve to fourteen
cents also goes to the store that sold the ticket.
The state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of Powerball money
they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using the money on things we
already have, low income people are usually the ones that are buying these lottery tickets, and it would
benefit the low income part of the community by the amount of support that could be given to schools.
Initially, the state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of the
Powerball money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using that
money on things that we already have. They are using this money for local transportation, teacher
retirement funds, and sports

The Real Estate Development Of Egypt Essay
We have decided to invest in Cairo, Egypt. Our company named Bassma Real Estate, aimed at
developing a real estate property in the New Cairo settlement. Egypt is a unique country with great
potential. The real estate market in Egypt is like no other in the Middle East or Africa. It has withstood
two revolutions and major political and economic instability. Yet it remains resilient and has seen
tremendous growth over the past few years. Land prices have seen a steady increase in value at an
average of 10% per year since 2010.(Egypt property market,2015) Another unique factor to Egypt is
its population growth, growth rate of around 2.0 it is the highest in Africa making real estate
development not only an opportunity but also a necessity. Our product is luxury residential apartments
aimed at the upper middle class, specifically young couples who are looking to buy their first home.
We offer a unique approach by positioning ourselves as experts on shepherding first time home buyers
comfortably through the process of buying a home they like and can afford. Like any investment it
does not come without risks, but Egypt has some unique challenges to it. Mainly, its currently weak
currency. Although it has begun to stabilize it is still weak and does not look to becoming stronger in
the near future. We hope to take advantage of the opportunities this endeavor provides us and to
establish our brand so as to develop more properties in Cairo and may even expand beyond that. Egypt

Dreams of Blacks Deferred in the Poetry of Langston...
Dreams of Blacks Deferred in the Poetry of Langston Hughes
The poetry of Langston Hughes, the poet laureate of Harlem, is an effective commentary on the
condition of blacks in America during the 20th Century. Hughes places particular emphasis on
Harlem, a black area in New York that became a destination of many hopeful blacks in the first half of
the 1900 s. In much of Hughes poetry, a theme that runs throughout is that of a dream deferred. The
recurrence of a dream deferred in several Hughes poems paints a clear picture of the disappointment
and dismay that blacks in America faced in Harlem. Furthermore, as each poem develops, so does the
feeling behind a dream deferred, growing more serious and even angry with each new ... Show more

When blacks arrived in Harlem, though, their dream was deferred; instead of the opportunities they
had envisioned, they were faced with overcrowding, exploitation, and poverty. At the beginning of
Harlem, the mood that accompanies a dream deferred is a questioning one that begins a search for
definition. This mood, which will develop as each poem progresses, induces the reader to reflect upon
the meaning of a dream deferred, preparing them for its development. The poem continues, listing the
possible fates of a dream that never becomes reality. It suggests that maybe the dream will dry up /
like a raisin in the sun, withering up and disappearing. Maybe it will stink like rotten meat, becoming
a sickening reminder of what will never be. Perhaps the dream will crust and sugar over; Hughes
seems to be saying here that the dream deferred might be covered up by society with a veil of
normalcy. The most powerful line in Harlem, though, is the last line: Or does it explode? This line, in
italics for emphasis, makes obvious the severity of a postponed dream, especially the dream of the
blacks in Harlem. For a people who have been oppressed for centuries, the denial of yet another dream
is not taken lightly. With the final line, Hughes seems to be hinting at a revolution, alluding to the idea
that

How Does Atticus Show Wisdom In To Kill A Mockingbird
Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement; the quality of being
wise. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, there is one character who shows a tremendous amount of
wisdom. Atticus shows his wisdom throughout the story by teaching Scout how to be young wise girl
and teaching her how to read and write. Shows Jem how to be wise and knowledgeable , and shows it
in the defending of Tom Robinson. As Atticus once advised me to do, I tried to climb into Jem s skin
and walk around in it . Said Scout (Lee, 57). That s good advice to give to a young girl that s just

Atticus to Scout (Lee, 31). Atticus wants Scout to keep going to school, so she can get the education

Boston Tea Party Research Paper
The Boston Tea Party was a tremendous moment in history that was caused by many factors and had
many lasting effects that led to the war that shaped our country into what it is today, The
Revolutionary War. The Boston Tea Party occurred due to the creation of The Tea Act in 1773. The
colonists retaliated by taking tea off of a British boat and throwing it into the harbor. This led to the
creation of The Intolerable Acts, and the beginning of The Revolutionary War. The creation of The Tea
Act was the major leading cause of The Boston Tea Party. It all started in 1760 when Francis Bernard
wanted to reinforce The Molasses Act (Middlekauff, 88). This led to the creation of multiple other
acts, the most prominent being The Tea Act. It was meant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They introduced The Coercive Acts that acted as a punishment for the colonists. The Coercive Acts
broke into two parts, The Intolerable Acts and The Quebec Act. The Quebec Act gave the colonists the
right to practice Roman Catholic Religion on their own free will (Brackemyre). The Intolerable Acts
broke up into even more separate parts. The first of which was The Boston Port Bill. That closed all
ports in and out of Boston until the tea that was thrown into the harbor was paid for. That was too
expensive for the colonists to pay for, and if they did, then the British would still come out as the
winners in the retaliation against this tax. The next piece of The Intolerable Acts was The
Administration of Justice Act which stated that any British soldiers accused of murdering colonists
were to be tried in England. This just about guaranteed that the British soldiers would be free of
charges due to the colonists not having a place in the jury. The next act as part of The Intolerable Acts
is The Massachusetts Government Act which took away the colonists right to elect representatives for

Insanity of War in Slaughterhouse Five
Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., is the tale of a gawky World War II veteran/soldier, Billy
Pilgrim. His wartime experiences and their effects lead him to the ultimate conclusion that war is
unexplainable. To portray this effectively, Vonnegut presents the story in two dimensions: historical
and science fiction. The irrationality of war is emphasized in each dimension by contrasts in its comic
and tragic elements. The historical seriousness of the Battle of the Bulge and the bombing of Dresden
are contrasted by many ironies and dark humor; the fantastical, science fiction type place of
Tralfamadore is, in truth, an outlet for Vonnegut to show his incredibly serious fatalistic views. The
surprising variations of the seriousness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One soldier dies from the dry heaves after being forced to work in a rotting corpse mine. Ironically,
this man has survived the bombing of Dresden, yet dies from the smell of others who died in the
bombing. Eventually, the corpse mines are closed because of the horrendous conditions, and the war
ends. The book ends as Billy is walking out of the slaughterhouse after gaining his freedom and he
notices is that, Birds were talking. One bird said to Billy Pilgrim, Poo tee weet? The bird s cameo in
the story reinforces the idea that there is nothing to say about an unnecessary massacre as in Dresden,
and that war is illogical, like the bird s words. This is ironic, since the theme of the novel, which
should be the clearest message derived from the story, is summed up in the incoherent words of a bird.
All these incidences of irony show senselessness and coincidence, with undertones of dark humor. [In
questioning why the incidences of the novel occur, it is impossible to give a logical explanation.] This
parallels the idea that war is nonsense, senseless, full of coincidence, and is unexplainable. As a result
of the trauma of Billy s war experience, he faces an inability to deal with reality later in his life. The
fantastical Tralfamadore is a planet where Billy escapes to when he feels life s stresses; however mad
Billy seems to have become, Tralfamadore doubles to reveal Vonnegut s earnest fatalistic views.

Cyber Mercenary Group Known As The Desert Falcons
Executive summary
The information within this report will give the reader an in depth look into the cyber mercenary
group known as the Desert Falcons . They operate out of the Middle East, particularly Palestine, Egypt
and Israel and are distinctly interested in the political and information landscape of their region. The
Desert Falcons display limited scope for attacks against major powers at this point in time, rather, they
concentrate their attacks on local power players. This includes local government and military targets
in addition to powerful individuals in the area. The group has been credited as having had designed a
native scripting language and being capable of complex social engineering attacks. The information
taken from the targets is usually of a sensitive or confidential nature and, therefore, is used by Desert
Falcons to blackmail the people and organisations the information was taken from. The main
technique used to gain this information is that of a Trojan virus embedded within a social engineering
attack that gains the trust of the victim before unloading the Trojan virus s payload. Attacks against
targets include high ranking military personnel, financial, media and even government departments
and pivotal personnel have been recognised as the Desert Falcons because they have taken
responsibility over them and have demanded ransoms for the attacks. The Desert Falcons face several
different limitations within their organisation. These limitations stem

The Importance of You-Are-Here Maps in Emergency Situations
Introduction
You Are Here maps are specific maps which have an indicator, You are here , to place the position of
the map reader on the map. You are here maps are aimed to guide newcomers in a modest size unit
such as shopping malls, parks, university campuses, airports. You are here maps allow people to orient
themselves in the environments (Levine, 1982). Visitors of these areas will have different purposes.
For example, a visitor may search for a particular shop in complex shopping mall or a newcomer in a
public or commercial building might look for the exit door. According to different purposes, a variety
of spatial task is needed. One of the most important purpose and spatial task is to guide people to the
nearest exits in the case of evacuation. In the case of emergency situation spatial awareness of all
involved people is really critical. Therefore, You Are Here maps could help people to locate
themselves in the place and finding the way to the nearest exit. This literatures review is conducted in
order to investigate cognitive challenges in interpretation of YAH maps in their environment, such as
parks, malls and any public building in Melbourne in the case of evacuations to the nearest exits.

The Experiences Of Denver, Florence, And The Survivors
The experiences of Denver, Florence, and the survivors of the atomic bomb represent one way
invaders intrude on homes and capture the occupant s attention, which freezes time. This claim is
further strengthened by the characters in these books that exist outside of I24, a troubled conscience,
and Hiroshima. What the authors demonstrate through these characters is the absence of time freezing.
Even though, these characters interact with the invader. Moreover, the authors reveal how character s
attachment to the domestic space exacerbates the paralysis of time. In Beloved, time does not freeze
for Stamp Paid because he is a derelict. Contrary to Sethe and Denver who have a myriad of memories

Stamp Paid doesn t have a home, and therefore he isn t obligated to remain with the invader. Stamp
Paid can leave, and he does just that. The lack of a domestic sphere weakens the preoccupation with
an invader because the individual can simply leave the place of intrusion. While Stamp Paid is free
from Beloved and I24, Elisha is free from memories that trouble his conscience. Baldwin displays a
character who isn t affected by invaders and the freezing of time, through John s role model, Elisha.
Understand that Elisha is saved, and this holy revival exonerates him from his past. Elisha
demonstrates no recognition of his dabble with sin that transpires with Ella Mae. John comments on
this: He stared in a dull paralysis of terror at the body of Elisha. He saw him standing had Elisha
forgotten? beside Ella Mae before the altar while Father James rebuked him for the evil that lived in
the flesh (12). Whereas memories invade Florence s mind and directs the narrative into an explanation
of her past, there is no chapter of Go Tell It titled, Elisha s Prayer. Baldwin dedicates voyages into the
past solely on characters who have troubled consciences. Elisha is saved: You got to remember, Elisha
said, turning now to look at him, that you think about it with a carnal mind. You still got Adam s mind,
boy, and you keep thinking about your friend, you want to do what they do, and you want to go to the

The Myth Of The Robber Barons Summary
In a book published in 1991 by Burt Folsom, The Myth of the Robber Barons is essentially a book
about two theories competing against one another, which is the political versus the market
entrepreneurs. The book adamantly persuades the reader into believing market entrepreneurship has
provided Americans with greater results versus political entrepreneurs featuring from real life
scenarios to back up Mr. Folsom claims. He pointed out several market entrepreneurs in his book such
as J.D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, James Hill and Charles Schwab as ones who helped
changed the economic climate for Americans by providing superior and lower cost products and/or
services than its competitors. Mr. Folsom continued to shine light on several political ... Show more

Mr. Folsom wrote The Myth of the Robber Baron because he believed sides of how America became a
world power was left out due to some entrepreneurs who help paved the way for businesses today.
With that belief, there is an abundance of knowledge to be learned starting from the first chapter of
Vanderbilt versus Collins/Fulton paving the way for the future of business dealings. Knowledge to be
gained was presented by Victor Niederhoffer where he states the reasons to read The Myth of the
Robber Barons as making the reader understand the sources of wealth and progress in society, hinting
on how to run a business successful and showing the key to success in business was lowering costs,
attention to detail, improved technology and sound financial structure (Niederhoffer). Furthermore,
today s business government relationship is ever important because the government has continue to
dabble in the expansion of business industries by covering costs and imposing taxes without
developing opportunities for businesses to create themselves and provide the goods and services that
is needed to keep The United States as a world power. Now more than ever, good and services are
being provided by countries not named The United States and government is allowing those standards
to continue because its cheaper for businesses outside America to develop goods and services for
Americans. Ultimately, The Myth of the Robber Barons is influential to today s businesses because it
reveals the implications of political involvement through government and not where it needs to be,
which is in the hands of the

Choosing A Nursing Program Essay
Choosing Jacksonville University Accelerated Nursing Program
As I spent months researching the perfect nursing program for me to apply to, to further my education
and get started on my career is when I came across Jacksonville University (JU) accelerated nursing
program. At the current moment I work at the Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) in
downtown Orlando as a patient sitter and many staff members have recommended this nursing
program to me and shared how great the program is. After much research I have decided that JU
accelerated nursing program is perfect for me. I could not find anything wrong or dislike anything
about this program or even the area the program is located in. I have had the opportunity to talk to a
few nurses that have graduated from JU nursing program and are currently working as nurses. They ve
expressed how great the program is and it changed their lives. I love the small classes that JU has to
offer, which gives the professors a little bit of time to have one on one time with the students and
allow the students to have time to ask questions. Another aspect I love about JU is, as of 2015, 83.50%
of their students pass the NCLEX. This shows me that although this program is challenging the

passion. My passion drives me to have a lot of determination and by getting into this program it can

The Waste Land Poem
The waste land by T.S.Eliot in 1922 is a mix of publications containing many themes and features.
The poem contains five sections with the image of the city being the main focus for things to occur.
The waste land encounters many different cultural impacts with the poem focusing on the imagery of
nature and the whole rural setting. When researching Eliot you learn that most of his works draw
vastly on literary and religious texts and the traditions around them. When reading the Waste lands
written by Eliot you create your own images of war, trauma, death and numerous delusions that came
about as the after effect of war.
The sections in this poem show similarities, they show the physical and emotional devastation caused
by the war. Each sections draw s to the reader s attention about physiological and cultural crisis that
came to affect the cultural identity after war had broken out and ended. The poem symbolizes the
connections in the past to many popular places. The representation of the city in the waste land refers
closely to mankind focusing closely to the unreal city. The cities that are transformed throughout the
sections of the poems are broken down because of the harsh realities taking place. This leaves the
outcome of the unreal city as modern society is being destroyed throughout.
The Waste land contains five sections with the first one being the burial of the dead . The burial of the
dead opens up by firstly saying April is the cruellest month, breeding Lilacs

Distrust In Police
In recent years, society has heard cases of police brutality at an increasingly shocking rate, thus
creating a sense of distrust among communities towards police officers and other authority figures. As
the first line of defense against crimes such as home invasions or crimes against persons, police
officers are expected to be an ally towards victims; however, it seems that society is now viewing
officers as the perpetrators of crimes as opposed to the protectors. This has already posed an issue
because community members are choosing not to seek police help when needed, and when they do
decide to seek help, forgoing police assistance results in being uncertain of where else to go.
Chicago is the third most populated city in America, and in 2014 there were 57,863 crimes reported by

Brown (2004) said that it is essential that police officials adjust their polices and practices to
accommodate the changing needs of the populace as it continues to metamorphasize. He suggests that
police help educate immigrants about U.S. laws and the role of police, and believes that serving a
diverse society requires police to interact with minorities in a respectful manner while also seeking
their input on local problems. Overall, Brown touts the option of community policing and shows that
he is in favor of integrating the police into the community in order to create deeper bonds with citizens
and form a sense of trust. In various studies, community policing has been shown to effectively
increase positive relations between citizens and the police; when people begin feeling like they can
trust the police, they are more likely to help the authorities out by offering information regarding
crimes that they may have witnessed, or even acting as eyes on the street when the police are not

The Pros And Cons Of Segregation
In society, segregation is a detriment to minorities and is still currently around today, accepting
segregation is ignorant and unethical. Many minority people aren t given a chance to succeed in their
lives because of the opportunity that isn t offered to them. In this day and age, anything that represents
segregation being acceptable should be removed. In schools, segregation was outlawed a long time
ago but it is working its way back and that is causing minority groups to receive less of an education,
with fewer opportunities. Even though society has progressed, segregation still exists and creates
unfair obstacles in minorities lives. Minority groups aren t given the same opportunities as other
individuals. In other words, every individual isn t given an equal opportunity to succeed in life.
According to Washington Post, Authors of Redlining prevents minority families from becoming

The Benefits of Introducing at-Home Testing for HIV in...
The growth of HIV cases in Indonesia is one of the most rapid ones among the countries in Asia
(UNAIDS 2013). Indonesia s Ministry of Health estimates that more than 500.000 people in Indonesia
will become infected with HIV in 2014 unless there is an acceleration of HIV prevention programs
(UNICEF Indonesia 2012). In Indonesia, the testing of HIV currently is done in voluntary counseling

testing and counseling. VCT has been shown to have a role in both HIV prevention and as an entry
point to treatment (UNAIDS 2000). This program has been one of the most important parts of national

Indeed, Wright and Katz (2006) announced that the amounts of suicide cases in the USA were not
increased after the approval of home testing kits by FDA in 1996. On the other hand, some people
feared that notification of negative result in home testing would diminish the chances to educate at
risk individuals to understand their risky behavior. Meanwhile, in VCT setting there are less concerns
about this problem because it has face to face counseling for patients with any results. However, it is
believed that direct counseling services currently provided in clinic based testing are ineffective
because they are too brief and inadequate (Harris 2005). Moreover, according to a study that
interviewed at risk individuals, most of them supported the argument that current face to face
counseling services were not necessarily optimal and also supported the introduction of new
counseling methods like brochures, magazine, and telephone counseling (Spielberg et al. as cited in
Whellams 2008). In fact, it has been demonstrated in a study by Frank et al. (1997) that pre test and
post test telephone counseling provided in anonymous HIV home collection kits offered a safe and
effective substitute to traditional VCT method.
Another drawback of at home testing kit especially OraQuick In Home Test is that it is not as accurate
as HIV blood tests currently used in the clinical setting. Its sensitivity is inferior to standard HIV

Theme Of Imperialism In The Second Jungle Book
The Jungle Books The First Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book is a collection of short stories,
several of which have the same protagonist, by Rudyard Kipling, published in 1894 and 1895
respectively. The stories that are relevant for this essay take place in the jungles of India and in a
bungalow in the 19th century. The Mowgli stories tell the story of a boy, found and raised in the
jungle, whose primal life is full of adventures, all the while struggling with his own humanity.
Meanwhile, Rikki Tikki Tavi is about a mongoose, separated from his relatives, who ends up with a
British family whom he must save from the local fauna. Kipling wrote these, and many other stories,
with children in mind, therefore one might assume that the message is as innocent as can be to suit the
young readers. However, in post colonial times, many have criticized ... Show more content on

Although limited, one can observe evidence of imperialism in the stories in both literal and symbolic
references. As we have seen, the English are the ones who provide safety and protection for those who
need their help, and the animals and Mowgli both represent the inhabitants of the Raj. While this is the
case, imperialism is more apparent in the tale of Rikki Tikki Tavi than The Jungle Books. It is easier to
compare Rikki Tikki s story with that of India s during colonial times, as the symbols are clearer and
the plot seems historically telling. Additionally, Mowgli share some similarities with Kipling s
childhood, both being born (...) a god among mere mortals, struggling to find a real home. Finally,
while some critics praise Kipling s literature, a few condemn his work for being in favor of the
empire, but is this the case for the Jungle Books? Perhaps so, but it could also be the result of
subconscious thoughts that he was born and raised with, which found their way into his

What Is The Theme Of Amoretti
Edmund Spenser s Amoretti, first published in 1595, is a sonnet cycle, which describes the poet s love
for, courtship of, and eventual marriage to Elizabeth Boyle. The series of sonnet are unique in that
they do not end with love being unrequited, but rather with the resolution of the poet s love in
marriage. However despite the ultimately happy outcome of Spenser s courtship, in many of his
sonnets he describes the agony of love longing and the anguish of harboring an unreturned affection.
In Sonnet 54, Spenser compares the courtship of his beloved to various types of theatre performance,
describing himself as an actor and the object of his affections as a spectator. The poet accentuates this
analogy of courtship as theatre through the poem s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem is organized into three quatrains with an interlocked rhyme scheme and a final rhyming
couplet. The first two quatrains portray the poet as an actor in love, while the third quatrain is
concerned with the callous response of the beloved spectator, and the final couplet marks a shift from
description to judgment with the poet concluding that the woman who he loves must be made of stone
to be so unfeeling. The sonnet is written in iambic pentameter, this style of meter furthering
associations with the theater and theatrical performance to the minds of readers familiar with the well
known English plays of this period by Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare written
primarily iambic pentameter. Furthermore throughout the poem, the unstressed/stressed pattern seems
to further dramatize the speakers words, especially in the last quatrain in which the important words
relating to action and reaction are consistently stressed, such as merth , rues when (twice), laugh
(twice), mocks and cry. Spenser s use of iambic pentameter also invites comparison to the work of
Patrarch, the father of the sonnet who used iambic pentameter for his poems. Spenser s sonnet 54

Life Saving Weapons Of Mass Destruction
Life Saving Weapons of Mass Destruction The atomic bombs dropped in Japan during the Pacific War
were initially devastating, killing thousands of people in the blast, but they were also life saving and
beneficial to Japan and the geo political world. World War II officially ended after Japan surrendered,
putting an end to the deaths of soldiers from around the world. Japan s economy, which had taken a
great hit later in the war, began to improve with the aid from the United States. The modern public is
now well aware of the extensive damage these weapons caused, which has prevented further
deployments of nuclear bombs, keeping the global public protected from nuclear warfare. With the
lives lost in the decimated cities, there continue to be many more preserved. On the sixth and ninth of
August in 1945, the United States dropped Little Boy and Fat Man onto the Japanese military and
industrial cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki . Prior to the bombings, the Pacific War had already
claimed over 35 million lives, or about half of World War II s total death toll . Japan was starting to
lose traction by 1945, and the Allies needed to find a way to force them to surrender. The Japanese
military was proud and their soldiers preferred to die fighting than surrender, as shown by their
kamikaze missions , so a different approach had to be taken that not only affected the soldiers, but the
country of Japan as a whole. Leaflets began falling into major Japanese cities in late July and

African Americans live in the moment using recurring yearly religious beliefs to as a foundation of a
religious lifestyle. The cultural interaction for African Americans within this circular time sense
provides an organizing framework for their cultural psychology and has helped developed their

African Americans began to organize their own religious ceremonial services secretly in the slave
quarters. They would use gestures, code words, and communication not apparent to the Caucasian
people. The believers were summoned to the slave quarters where they open heartedly shared beliefs
with evangelical Christianity, cultural rhythms, and beautiful singing. As time passed, the spirituals,
with strong beliefs of religious deliverance and freedom from slavery, progressed and prospered.
African American preachers believed that God had called them to speak his Word, cultured their

provided one of the few ways for enslaved African Americans to express and enact their hopes for a

Flexible Organization Essay
A proper flexible organization provides its work force arrangements where employees are given
greater freedom to balance their work and personal commitments such as family, higher education,
community activities, religious commitments, professional development, and general interests.
Above is Atkinson s model of a flexible firm. He argued that firms increasingly seek 4 kinds of
flexibility functional, numerical, pay, distancing.
Functional flexibility is a qualitative approach to work, and refers to management s ability to deploy
and redeploy particular sections of the workforce on a wide range of tasks in response to market
demand as and when required (Sparrow 1998 cited in Teicher Holland 2006 p. 241 242). To ensure

2002 cited in Teicher Holland 2006 p. 242), facilitates the reduction of the core or permanent
workforce
Financial flexibility is a compensation system designed to facilitate the development of numerical and
functional flexibility. It provides the duality of allowing market forces to dictate relative wage rates
for the external workforce and provides the incentive for the core workforce to increase its skill base
by relating pay to skill levels (Teicher Holland 2006, p. 242)
The incorporation work time flexibility or internal numerical flexibility provides the organization with
the flexibility to arrange and adjust work patterns and leads to a closer correlation between labour
utilization and production demands without financial penalty or the additional costs of hiring labour
(Felstead Jewson 1999; Ozaki 1999 cited in Teicher Holland 2006 p. 242)
The use of flexibility in the business centers on securing lower labour costs, tighter manning levels,
higher machine utilization, greater staff mobility and few interruptions and bottlenecks in production
(Blyton 1992, p.301 cited in Sheridan, Conway 2001 pp. 8)
Flexible work environments also improve employee retention. With the pool of talent in markets
becoming smaller as well as companies getting more and more competitive, many current and

Consumer Perception Of Consumer Behavior Essay
Consumer Perception
Consumer behaviours are constructed by their attitudes, and the attitude itself is the result of the
consumers perception (Fishbein Ajzen, 1975). This construct is explored in the Theory of Reasoned
Action, where Fishbein and Ajzen (1975) state this in regards to attitude behaviour relationships.
When it comes to greenwashing, research has found that this attitude behaviour relationship could
manipulate the perception of the consumer. The consumer perceptions when it comes to companies
can be explained by: perceived deception, which is caused by an organization which misleadingly
advertises its product as being green (Newell et al., 1998); perceived scepticism, from consumers
regarding an environmental claim which could then decrease any possible positive impact on
consumer behaviour (Albayrak et al., 2011), and; perceived inconsistency, which is caused by a
company s inconsistency in relation to advertising claims about being green versus their actual
behaviour (Gallicano, 2011). Consumer perceptions towards products can be explained using the
concepts of: perceived distrust, which is an unwillingness to have confidence in a product, this can
stem from an expectation resulting from a lack of credibility and/or environmental performance (Chen
Chang, 2013); perceived risk, which is connected to possible consequences of a wrong decision (Peter
Ryan, 1976), and; perceived confusion, which arises as a result of consumers failing to acquire

The Barlow (2018) text states that the diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorder is:

Essay On Symmetry In The Eyes Of The Beholder
Symmetry in the Eyes of the Beholder
Physical appearance is held in high regard amongst the human species and observational methods are
used in the construction of impression formation. One particular method being, the preference for
biological symmetry. Biological symmetry is defined as similarity or balance between parts of an
organism so that if split in half mirror images are formed (Symmetry, Biological, 2016). The visual
detection of perfect biological symmetry, naturally, amongst humans is fairly complicated but past
research has demonstrated that it s not impossible. According to research conducted by Rhodes,
Proffitt, Grady, and Sumich (1998), humans have a sensitivity to different levels of symmetry. The
human preference for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The perception of being friendly can be defined by the level at which one perceives another to be
socially capable of possessing various friendships, or the ability to be kind to others. The perception of
being friendly, also, has not been significantly linked to biological symmetry. However, research has
proposed that the perception of being seen as helpful, sympathetic, and forgiving is decreased in
asymmetrical faces (Noor and Evans, 2003). The perception of being intelligent can be defined by the
level at which one perceives another to possess intellectual abilities (i.e problem solving, planning,
learning). The perception of being intelligent has, in conjunction with the previous variables, not
possessed a major role in the majority of research that pertains to biological symmetry. Nonetheless,
one study found a correlation between body asymmetry and low IQ in undergraduates (Furlow, Armijo
Prewitt, Gangestad, Thornhill, 1997). Overall, research studies pertaining to biological symmetry, as a
whole, and impression formation have been ambiguous thus, leaving current findings open to debate.
Conversely, research studies pertaining to facial symmetry, attractiveness, and mate selection have
been modestly more definitive. Thereupon, leading to the conclusion that facial symmetry may render
more results in the construction of

The River In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
Quenching for knowledge, Siddhartha travels in search of nirvana. Throughout his journey, he
encounters the river several times. Each time he encounters the river he is in different phase of his self,
which leads him to his goal of salvation. The river is present in Siddhartha s spirituality, it provides
him with lust, and gives him true unity in the end. Siddhartha grew up alongside a riverbank and is
born as the son of a Brahmin. He bathes and performs his ritual ablutions in the water. Siddhartha
begins to become unsatisfied with this simple life. Siddhartha wishes to find answers about his true
self and oneness. Siddhartha leaves against his father s wishes, and lives a life of asceticism with the

Then what penetrates his conciseness is the OM of perfect completion . He gazes at the river, noting
that what he hears is the voice of its current speaking powerfully and purely. Siddhartha dies in the
water, but becomes reborn anew. Through this, he obtains his salvation and achieves his harmonious
relationship with the world, which is nirvana. Through contemplation of the river, Siddhartha learns to
understand every aspect of life. He notices that it exists always the same and yet at every moment
new. This symbolizes the circle of life. The river also brought little Siddhartha and Govinda both to
Siddhartha. The defiance of his son resembles his own towards his father , which demonstrates life s
full circle. He and Govinda are later reunited by the river after taking separate paths. Furthermore, the
river teaches Siddhartha that time has no existence; it just flows eternally. His soul, even after death,
shall continue to flow eternally. Throughout the story the river guides Siddhartha, enabling him to find
oneness among his experiences. As Siddhartha achieves his peace and self through the river, he smiles
as the perfect Buddha does, for he has found true

  • 3. Bird And Magic Johnson In The Myth Of The Amateurs In Yago Colás s The Myth of the Amateurs, he explores the fascinating racial dynamic the pairing of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson represented. On the surface, this white and black pair was worlds apart, as Colás pointed out the shy and reserved Bird was praised...for his effort, concentration, guts, and unselfishness (89), compared to the outgoing and perpetually smiling, Johnson, who became the embodiment of Showtime (90). However, Bird and Johnson weren t actually all that different both were playmaking, intelligent, flashy, players who were small town boys...still close to [their] families...teachers...former coaches...and the people [they] grew up with (92). A similar dynamic dominates much of the narrative in White Men Can t Jump, summarized by Billy Hoyle, the main protagonist of the film: A white man wants to win, then look good. A black man wants to look good, then win (1:10:50). On the surface, his claim is not too far fetched. Although we see Billy s fair share of flashy plays, like no look backwards passes (11:53, 1:43:19), and an alley oop dunk (1:47:05), they pale in comparison to the flashy plays of Sidney, his partner, one of ... • 5. Prejudice In The Swing Era The swing era was vast and equally varietal. From Benny Goodman to Chick Webb or Artie Shaw each had their individual sound . Moreover, this separated them and gave them their own appeal to the masses. However, The swing era occurred at a time when racism and prejudice still had a strong foothold in public eye. While playing swing did allow a member of a minority to have some freedom from this prejudice, they still could not expect the same treatment as the white players. In The Swing Era: Pure Pleasure swing was described as an escape for people who are down on their luck. Moreover, Swing gave people hope and a place to break free and forget about your trouble. This is most likely why swing climbed so aggressively into popular culture. Swing was not just a type of music; it was a lifestyle. The bands that toured lived a breathed swing. Some bands would have to sleep in their bus or car because they could not afford to get a room. • 8. One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Speech Act Theory Essay Ken Kesey forms the intricate relationships among the characters in the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest by the unique use of perspective and speech. Throughout the novel, Kesey depicts this connection between the public world and the seemingly closed off society inside the mental institution. This creates two separate spheres separated by a few walls and doors. Kesey goes on to form a unique perspective in the novel, told by a paranoid schizophrenic, with the narrator s caricature like description of characters in the novel. This makes the audience ponder if the narrator is always depicting images as they truly are. This evolves into the Speech Act Theory, which illustrates reality versus false utterance. Through the ... Specifically, dramatism focuses on how we use language and create both real life and fictional narratives to present a particular view of a situation, just as a play creates and presents a certain world or situation inhabited by characters in the play (Rutten, 2012). Through the act of dramatism, the interactions in the novel are shaped. This act of dramatizing insanity separates the social spheres of the normal and the insane creating a social distinction between the two parties. They are perceived differently and immediately receive a warning label when they are viewed as insane . Humans form this stereotype through our adjusted, fixed attitudes towards people who are disabled . Rutten states A rhetorical perspective (on the word disabled ) essentially enables an understanding of the complexity of impairment and disability as a cultural/discursive as well as a social and structural phenomenon (Rutten, 2012). This shows how society tends to suppress those who have mental illnesses and ignore them. They are locked away in a mental institution, shielded from the public eye. The theory focuses on the distinction between performative and constative utterances (Bernaerts, 2010). Performative utterances are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Persuasive Essay On The Lottery If you live in the United States of America then you know exactly what the Powerball is. Essentially, it is an American lottery game offered around forty four states in the United States of America. Every day millions of people are competing to buy lottery tickets from anywhere that they can find them. This includes gas stations, grocery stores, and even in malls. The sad thing about this lottery game is that most of the income from the lottery ticket goes straight back to the state where you bought your ticket from. When a Powerball ticket is bought, around fifty to sixty five percent of the two dollars goes to the prize money. While less than a dime, goes to running the lottery and twelve to fourteen cents also goes to the store that sold the ticket. The state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of Powerball money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using the money on things we already have, low income people are usually the ones that are buying these lottery tickets, and it would benefit the low income part of the community by the amount of support that could be given to schools. • 11. Dreams of Blacks Deferred in the Poetry of Langston... Dreams of Blacks Deferred in the Poetry of Langston Hughes The poetry of Langston Hughes, the poet laureate of Harlem, is an effective commentary on the condition of blacks in America during the 20th Century. Hughes places particular emphasis on Harlem, a black area in New York that became a destination of many hopeful blacks in the first half of the 1900 s. In much of Hughes poetry, a theme that runs throughout is that of a dream deferred. The recurrence of a dream deferred in several Hughes poems paints a clear picture of the disappointment and dismay that blacks in America faced in Harlem. Furthermore, as each poem develops, so does the feeling behind a dream deferred, growing more serious and even angry with each new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When blacks arrived in Harlem, though, their dream was deferred; instead of the opportunities they had envisioned, they were faced with overcrowding, exploitation, and poverty. At the beginning of Harlem, the mood that accompanies a dream deferred is a questioning one that begins a search for definition. This mood, which will develop as each poem progresses, induces the reader to reflect upon the meaning of a dream deferred, preparing them for its development. The poem continues, listing the possible fates of a dream that never becomes reality. It suggests that maybe the dream will dry up / like a raisin in the sun, withering up and disappearing. Maybe it will stink like rotten meat, becoming a sickening reminder of what will never be. Perhaps the dream will crust and sugar over; Hughes seems to be saying here that the dream deferred might be covered up by society with a veil of normalcy. The most powerful line in Harlem, though, is the last line: Or does it explode? This line, in italics for emphasis, makes obvious the severity of a postponed dream, especially the dream of the blacks in Harlem. For a people who have been oppressed for centuries, the denial of yet another dream is not taken lightly. With the final line, Hughes seems to be hinting at a revolution, alluding to the idea that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Boston Tea Party Research Paper The Boston Tea Party was a tremendous moment in history that was caused by many factors and had many lasting effects that led to the war that shaped our country into what it is today, The Revolutionary War. The Boston Tea Party occurred due to the creation of The Tea Act in 1773. The colonists retaliated by taking tea off of a British boat and throwing it into the harbor. This led to the creation of The Intolerable Acts, and the beginning of The Revolutionary War. The creation of The Tea Act was the major leading cause of The Boston Tea Party. • 16. Insanity of War in Slaughterhouse Five Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., is the tale of a gawky World War II veteran/soldier, Billy Pilgrim. His wartime experiences and their effects lead him to the ultimate conclusion that war is unexplainable. To portray this effectively, Vonnegut presents the story in two dimensions: historical and science fiction. The irrationality of war is emphasized in each dimension by contrasts in its comic and tragic elements. The historical seriousness of the Battle of the Bulge and the bombing of Dresden are contrasted by many ironies and dark humor; the fantastical, science fiction type place of Tralfamadore is, in truth, an outlet for Vonnegut to show his incredibly serious fatalistic views. The book ends as Billy is walking out of the slaughterhouse after gaining his freedom and he notices is that, Birds were talking. One bird said to Billy Pilgrim, Poo tee weet? The bird s cameo in the story reinforces the idea that there is nothing to say about an unnecessary massacre as in Dresden, and that war is illogical, like the bird s words. This is ironic, since the theme of the novel, which should be the clearest message derived from the story, is summed up in the incoherent words of a bird. All these incidences of irony show senselessness and coincidence, with undertones of dark humor. [In questioning why the incidences of the novel occur, it is impossible to give a logical explanation.] This parallels the idea that war is nonsense, senseless, full of coincidence, and is unexplainable. As a result of the trauma of Billy s war experience, he faces an inability to deal with reality later in his life. The Desert Falcons display limited scope for attacks against major powers at this point in time, rather, they concentrate their attacks on local power players. Understand that Elisha is saved, and this holy revival exonerates him from his past. Elisha demonstrates no recognition of his dabble with sin that transpires with Ella Mae. John comments on this: He stared in a dull paralysis of terror at the body of Elisha. He saw him standing had Elisha forgotten? beside Ella Mae before the altar while Father James rebuked him for the evil that lived in the flesh (12). Whereas memories invade Florence s mind and directs the narrative into an explanation of her past, there is no chapter of Go Tell It titled, Elisha s Prayer. Baldwin dedicates voyages into the past solely on characters who have troubled consciences. Elisha is saved: You got to remember, Elisha said, turning now to look at him, that you think about it with a carnal mind. Knowledge to be gained was presented by Victor Niederhoffer where he states the reasons to read The Myth of the Robber Barons as making the reader understand the sources of wealth and progress in society, hinting on how to run a business successful and showing the key to success in business was lowering costs, attention to detail, improved technology and sound financial structure (Niederhoffer). Furthermore, today s business government relationship is ever important because the government has continue to dabble in the expansion of business industries by covering costs and imposing taxes without developing opportunities for businesses to create themselves and provide the goods and services that is needed to keep The United States as a world power. Now more than ever, good and services are being provided by countries not named The United States and government is allowing those standards to continue because its cheaper for businesses outside America to develop goods and services for Americans. Ultimately, The Myth of the Robber Barons is influential to today s businesses because it reveals the implications of political involvement through government and not where it needs to be, which is in the hands of the ... Distrust In Police In recent years, society has heard cases of police brutality at an increasingly shocking rate, thus creating a sense of distrust among communities towards police officers and other authority figures. As the first line of defense against crimes such as home invasions or crimes against persons, police officers are expected to be an ally towards victims; however, it seems that society is now viewing officers as the perpetrators of crimes as opposed to the protectors. This has already posed an issue because community members are choosing not to seek police help when needed, and when they do decide to seek help, forgoing police assistance results in being uncertain of where else to go. Meanwhile, in VCT setting there are less concerns about this problem because it has face to face counseling for patients with any results. Theme Of Imperialism In The Second Jungle Book The Jungle Books The First Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book is a collection of short stories, several of which have the same protagonist, by Rudyard Kipling, published in 1894 and 1895 respectively. The stories that are relevant for this essay take place in the jungles of India and in a bungalow in the 19th century. The Mowgli stories tell the story of a boy, found and raised in the jungle, whose primal life is full of adventures, all the while struggling with his own humanity. Meanwhile, Rikki Tikki Tavi is about a mongoose, separated from his relatives, who ends up with a British family whom he must save from the local fauna. What Is The Theme Of Amoretti Edmund Spenser s Amoretti, first published in 1595, is a sonnet cycle, which describes the poet s love for, courtship of, and eventual marriage to Elizabeth Boyle. The series of sonnet are unique in that they do not end with love being unrequited, but rather with the resolution of the poet s love in marriage. However despite the ultimately happy outcome of Spenser s courtship, in many of his sonnets he describes the agony of love longing and the anguish of harboring an unreturned affection. The sonnet is written in iambic pentameter, this style of meter furthering associations with the theater and theatrical performance to the minds of readers familiar with the well known English plays of this period by Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare written primarily iambic pentameter. • 41. Consumer Perception Of Consumer Behavior Essay Consumer Perception Consumer behaviours are constructed by their attitudes, and the attitude itself is the result of the consumers perception (Fishbein Ajzen, 1975). This construct is explored in the Theory of Reasoned Action, where Fishbein and Ajzen (1975) state this in regards to attitude behaviour relationships. When it comes to greenwashing, research has found that this attitude behaviour relationship could manipulate the perception of the consumer. The consumer perceptions when it comes to companies can be explained by: perceived deception, which is caused by an organization which misleadingly advertises its product as being green (Newell et al., 1998); perceived scepticism, from consumers regarding an environmental claim which could then decrease any possible positive impact on consumer behaviour (Albayrak et al., 2011), and; perceived inconsistency, which is caused by a company s inconsistency in relation to advertising claims about being green versus their actual behaviour (Gallicano, 2011). Consumer perceptions towards products can be explained using the concepts of: perceived distrust, which is an unwillingness to have confidence in a product, this can stem from an expectation resulting from a lack of credibility and/or environmental performance (Chen Chang, 2013); perceived risk, which is connected to possible consequences of a wrong decision (Peter Ryan, 1976), and; perceived confusion, which arises as a result of consumers failing to acquire accurate ... • 45. Essay On Symmetry In The Eyes Of The Beholder Symmetry in the Eyes of the Beholder Physical appearance is held in high regard amongst the human species and observational methods are used in the construction of impression formation. One particular method being, the preference for biological symmetry. Biological symmetry is defined as similarity or balance between parts of an organism so that if split in half mirror images are formed (Symmetry, Biological, 2016). The visual detection of perfect biological symmetry, naturally, amongst humans is fairly complicated but past research has demonstrated that it s not impossible. According to research conducted by Rhodes, Proffitt, Grady, and Sumich (1998), humans have a sensitivity to different levels of symmetry. The human preference for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The perception of being friendly can be defined by the level at which one perceives another to be socially capable of possessing various friendships, or the ability to be kind to others. The perception of being friendly, also, has not been significantly linked to biological symmetry. However, research has proposed that the perception of being seen as helpful, sympathetic, and forgiving is decreased in asymmetrical faces (Noor and Evans, 2003). The perception of being intelligent can be defined by the level at which one perceives another to possess intellectual abilities (i.e problem solving, planning, learning). The perception of being intelligent has, in conjunction with the previous variables, not possessed a major role in the majority of research that pertains to biological symmetry. Nonetheless, one study found a correlation between body asymmetry and low IQ in undergraduates (Furlow, Armijo Prewitt, Gangestad, Thornhill, 1997). Overall, research studies pertaining to biological symmetry, as a whole, and impression formation have been ambiguous thus, leaving current findings open to debate. Conversely, research studies pertaining to facial symmetry, attractiveness, and mate selection have been modestly more definitive. Thereupon, leading to the conclusion that facial symmetry may render more results in the construction of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
