The Tuskegee Study Essay
President Clinton in 1997 apologized for the harm caused by what might be called as America s most
notorious medical experiments, The Tuskegee Study saying The legacy of the study at Tuskegee has
reached far and deep, in ways that hurt our progress and divides our nation. We cannot be one America
when a whole segment of our nation has no trust in America. An apology is the first step, and we take
it with a commitment to rebuild that broken trust. We can begin by making sure there is never again
another episode like this one. We need to do more to ensure that medical research practices are sound
and ethical, and that researchers work more closely with communities. (The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, 2013) This study could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1972, however, reports of the experiment were leaked into the press and the experiment was halted.
This led to an outcry among the African American community. But by that time, many of the
participants had died and many others had passed on the disease to their wives and children. (Reverby,
S.M., 2009)
This study was a symbol of unethical conduct and racial discrimination in medicine primarily because
of two reasons. First, the subjects were never told that they had syphilis and thus, informed consent
did not play any role in this experiment. Secondly, the subjects were told that they were being treated
for bad blood , a term used in the local language for various illnesses such as anemia and fatigue. In
reality, however, the officials never treated the subjects for syphilis. The subjects were only provided
free medical exams, free meals and burial insurance in return for their participation in the study. The
only permission which was taken from the subjects was that to autopsy their body after death as also
paying for their burial. Thus, the Tuskegee experiment can be described as non therapeutic experiment
that lasted for a very long duration of 40 years. (Reverby, S.M., 2009)
It draws our attention to a very important factor of racial discrimination. The concept of race,
however, was not initiated because of

My Name Is Asher Lev Essay
Asher Lev Essay: Minor characters are central to our understanding of any text. Analyse their
significance in My Name Is Asher Lev.
Central to our understanding of My name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok, is the dynamics of Asher s
relationship with different minor characters involved. Each minor character such as Yudel Krinsky,
Uncle Yitzchok, the Rebbe, and Jacob Kahn each help Asher in a different way allowing the reader to
interpret the text more thoroughly. Their guidance to the antagonist creates a vivid image inside the
reader s mind of the type of character and their importance to our understanding of the text. Each

He represents the actions of the Russian government sending people it hates, the Jews, and the result
of Asher s father tiresome work. As Asher learns to paint using more and more materials, Yudel
Krinsky provides them to him. Even though Yudel knows the consequences of his actions of providing
Asher with paint, he in a way repaying Asher back for Aryeh Lev s service to him. When Asher is at
his own home, or at his Uncle s house, Yudel Krinsky provides an opening and expands Asher s
artistic horizons and ability by supplying the materials. He positively mirrors Asher and tries to help
Asher preserve his heritage as a Hasidic Jew whilst still supporting his individuality. Asher is able to
talk to Yudel like a father, having open discussions with him, and on occasion helps him in the store
and is able to feel comfortable. The store is described as warm by Asher in the latter part of the text
when returning from Europe, and is appropriately addressed because it feels like Asher s second home,
warm and cozy.
Our mind conjures an image of Yudel after Chaim Potok s first technique of imagery is used to
describe him. He was short and thin, with large bulging eyes, a beaklike nose, and pinched wrinkled
features. A dark stubble covered his face. He starts of being described in uncomplimentary terms.
Asher perceives him as being peculiar and foreign. You learned the store quickly, said Aryeh, I have
learned more difficult things than this store

The Price We Pay Matte Ross Quotes
The Price We Pay You must pay for everything in this world one way and another. There is nothing
free except the grace of God. You cannot earn that or deserve it claims Mattie Ross at the beginning of
True Grit by Charles Portis. What could Mattie be conveying by this? At the beginning of True Grit,
when Mattie embarks on her journey to capture Tom Chaney, we assume this means vengeance for the
murder of her father, Frank Ross, but does it change as the story goes on? Mattie Ross is hell bent
upon justice for her father, but by the end of the book we see the significance of paying for revenge.

Determining The Ksp Value For Silver Acetate Essay
Determining the Ksp value for silver acetate.
Introduction:
An equilibrium constant for a solid substance that is dissolving in an aqueous solution is represented
by the solubility product constant, where the concentrations of different ions from the solid substance
(compound) are used to calculate the solubility product constant. If the solubility product constant vale
is high then the substance is very soluble in an aqueous solution. The solubility product constant is
denoted by Ksp, and for a common reaction: aA(s) ⇌ cC(aq)+dD(aq)T
The Ksp= [C(aq)]c[D(aq)]d
The concentration of the solid (aA) doesn t contribute to the equilibrium constant because their
concentration doesn t change the expression of the equilibrium constant. Any change in their
concentration isn t that important as the ions and therefore they are taken out of the expression, hence,
the solubility product constant represents the amount of solid that can be dissolved in a solution.
One important effect on the solubility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The solution was swirled to induce precipitation, the swirling was for 30 minutes. The solution was
filtered through a dry filter paper and a dry funnel into a dry 250 ml beaker. The temperature of the

potassium thiocyanate solution, the burette reading was recorded, then into a clean, 50 ml flask, 5.00
ml of the filtered silver acetate solution was pipetted. 30 drops of the indicator (saturated ferric alum
in 1.0 N HNO3), a few drop of the thiocyanate solution was added, then continued to be added
dropwise, with swirling after each addition, until one drop gives a permanent light orange colour. The
whole process of titrating silver acetate with potassium thiocyanate was repeated two more times with
batches of 5.00 ml of the saturated silver acetate

The Theory Of The Research Methodology
Chapter 4: Research Methodology
4.1 Introduction
This chapter will focus on the theory of the research methodology that has been chosen to achieve the
aims and objectives of the project. The purpose of this section of the research is to discuss the
reasoning behind the methods chosen and explain the advantages and disadvantages of each.
4.2 Research Objectives
Review of the five main research objectives:
To examine the extent to which LLC and sustainable design are being effectively utilised in the
construction industry today.
To investigate the methodology and limitations of LLC and identify why it is not used more broadly
within the industry.
To highlight the importance of maintenance and operational costs and how they can provide a basis
for creating a more sustainable LLC tool.
To analyse whether life cycle costing can be used effectively for reducing the environmental impact of
construction projects.
To construct a set of recommendations and decisive conclusions to help support the use of life cycle
costing as a tool for sustainable design.
4.3 Methods of Research
In the process of ascertaining an appropriate research method suitable for data collection, an
evaluation into the two primary methods of research will be conducted to ensure the most suited
approach is chosen. Qualitative and Quantitative methods are the primary classifications for research.
Quantitative research adopts a scientific approach, where initial focus is on theory and literature,

Should Pasta Companies Be Forced For Label The Country Of...
Should pasta companies be forced to label the country of origin?
This past week Italy formally asked the European commission to require country of origin on pastas
sold in Italy. As many expected, this has caused an uproar with international companies, most notably
Canadian, who believe this requirement will cause lessen sales. Italy s proposed plan is to show where
the wheat is grown and milled on the pasta packaging. This regulation would clearly be a detriment to
Canadian pasta brands and would also require Italian pasta brands to segregate from one another by
country. With margins in consideration, this will surely increase the cost of moving durum into Italy.

Four years ago the United States was in a similar situation with Mexico in regards to international
meat, rather than pasta. On September 11, 2013, a United States district judge refused to stop the
government from requiring more specific labels on beef, pork, poultry and lamb products that were
sold in the United States (The Pig Site). This served as a victory for defenders of the mandatory
Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) policy. COOL, is a controversial United States food and
agricultural labeling policy that was implemented and deemed mandatory in 2009. The policy requires
that fresh foods, most notably meat, must indicate on the label where the product was born, grown,
raised and slaughtered (The Pig Project). It is not a secret that international and domestic businesses
operate differently, As mentioned in chapter 1 of the textbook, companies can expand their sales by
engaging in international business. In this case, Canada exports their pasta in hopes of tapping into the
enormous pasta market or Italy. In fact, according to a study done in 2014 by the International Pasta
Organization, Italy is the clear ahead leader in pasta consumption per capita. Italians consume 25.3
kilograms of pasta per capita, while Tunisia came in a distant second at 16 kilograms per capita
(International Pasta Organization). From the standpoint of Canadian pasta corporations, having their
pasta in a pasta dominant market like Italy is a

The Chemistry Of A Heating Bath
A heating bath is used in the laboratory to allow the chemical reaction to occur at an elevated
temperature around 1000C. The beaker is a glass vessel which contains the chemical solutions for the
purpose of coating. It is placed in the electroless bath where the chemicals are being heated up. The
glass rod is used to stir the chemical where the magnetic stirrer is not necessary. The tongs are used to
lift the bath after the coating is completed. Tri sodium citrate and thallium acetate are the chemicals
used during coating process which acts as a stabilizer for the bath. It stabilizes the reaction occurring
in the bath. Laboratory grade distilled water is used for the cleaning process and also to mix up with
the chemicals. Nickel chloride acts as the source for the coating process as the nickel is being coated
upon the surface of the substrate. Ethylene di amine is used as a complexing agent which creates a
bond between the nickel and aluminium and causes the coating. Thallium acetate is used as the
stabilizer. Sodium borohydride is the reducing agent which removes the hydrogen ions which are
being formed up inside the bath during the coating process. Fig.1 Zincate pre treatment process

Having the knowledge of these three main keys are essential for first year teaching. Understanding the
keys gives you a realistic expectation of what your life will look like as a first year teacher. Every
teacher wants to make a difference in their students lives but you have to be reasonable about your
abilities of effectively teaching your first year. You will not be the world s greatest without any real
prior experience. Secondly, you will be so busy making adjustments and adapting to classroom
management that you will not have much of a social life. It is important to become organized and do
as much work in advance as possible. Lastly, you must take the necessary time to reflect on how you

Rhetorical Analysis Of Antony s Speech
Antony gave the most effective funeral speech to thoroughly convince the Roman people to side with
him and rebel against the conspirators. In order to accomplish this, Antony uses the persuasive
techniques logos, ethos, and pathos.
To start his speech, Antony opens with some kind words about Caesar. Antony uses ethos by speaking
kindly of Caesar and saying, He was my friend, he was faithful and just to me (line 81). Antony
appears to be a honest and humble man mourning for his friend. By saying Brutus is an honorable man
(line 83), Antony places himself on the crowd s side because up to this point the crowd is in favor of
Brutus. Antony has made himself seem more trustworthy which also utilizes ethos. He then continues
to speak of Caesar s great deeds that do not support Brutus s claim of Caesar s ambition. For example,
Antony tells of Caesar saying, He brought many captives home to Rome whose ransoms brought
wealth to the city (line 83). This is all Brutus wants Antony to say but Antony continues and asks the
crowd, Is this the work of an ambitious man (line 89)? Antony is using logos to influence the Roman
people because he provides a counterexample to the claims of Caesar s ambition. Furthermore, Antony
places doubt in Brutus by saying, Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is an honorable man
(lines 91 92). This use of logos allows Antony to prove Brutus wrong, even if he does not say it out
loud.
Antony utilizes pathos by drawing sympathy from the

The excessive side to side movement of knee joint is prevented by LCL. The Medial Collateral
ligament is located on the inside of the knee joint and spans the distance from the top of the tibia to the
end of the femur. The MCL resists widening of the inside of the joint of the knee. There are wavy
bundles of collagen fibers found in human anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) that are arranged in
different directions. Fibroblasts are extended with short cytoplasmic processes and branches. The
elastic system is comprised of both oxytalan and elastic fibers. The ACL is very different from other
tendons and ligaments, with varied orientation of the bundles and complex structural organization.
Thus, it provides a structure able to resist tensile strains and multi axial stresses enforced upon it. The
histology of anterolateral ligament has been described as a structure in the lateral femoral condyle
connected by lateral knee with the tibial plateau and lateral meniscus. The histological studies of ALL
prove it to be a structure surrounded by synovium with a fibrous core. At the origin fibers are merged
with the popliteus at its origin and with the lateral meniscus

unstressed syllable. For example, in line 2 of the poem: Coral | is far | more red | than her | lips red .
This poem is specifically written in true English sonnet or Shakespearean sonnet form because it
contains three quatrains (four line stanzas) and a heroic couplet (two lines that rhyme) at the end. Each

Eugenie Grandet by Honore De Balzac and Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka are stories that reflect
upon the relationships of simplistic protagonists, and their relations with money minded people. Both
protagonists (Gregor from Metamorphosis and Eugenie from Eugenie

The strong desire for money or luxury has distinguished the characters humane feelings in the two
texts. Mr. Samsa and his family move away from Gregor since he loses the ability to produce money
for them by turning into a bug. Gregor s family now do not need him, hence
his family closed the door quickly behind him and keep him locked away in his lonely room. For a
while, Gregor s sister, Grete takes good care of her brother and continues to love him, but
unfortunately that does not last very long, and she is forced to get a job and go to work. That way she
spends less time with her brother, and soon she develops a sense of disgust towards Gregor, and so she
stops visiting him and left him in isolation. Similarly Charles, Eugenie s love drifts away from
Eugenie for financial purposes. Charles determination to regain his wealth and his father s honour
makes him leave Grandet. Ironically Grandet finances Charles initial steps by giving away her
precious coin box to Charles. He then returns after seven years and takes more money from Eugenie,
just so that he can marry another wealthy girl, leaving his beloved in solitary, and
Eugenie supports him out of the love she has for him. Both protagonists lose their most loved ones,
simply because their loved ones run away from their emotional attachment because of materialistic
attachments. In both texts the protagonists are the ones

Repercussions of Julius Caesar s Poor Leadership
William Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar highlights how weak leaders affect society s condition.
Shakespeare displays this through the actions of multiple characters, one of whom is Julius Caesar, a
Roman general and senator greatly favored by the people. Caesar enters the play by ignoring a
soothsayer s omen to beware the ides of March, an action that is indicative of his belief in his personal
invulnerability. Caesar s continuous disregard of warnings of his death manifests into his ultimate
demise. Shakespeare extrapolates Caesar s arrogance, physical weakness, and unfortunate fate to
elucidate how rulers with similar traits would eventually fail and foment disarray between their
people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Caesar s arrogance brings victories to Rome, it also causes him to disregard obvious warnings.
This is shown when Calpurnia begs him not to go to the meeting, and he initially agrees to stay home

being. In fact he says, Danger knows full well/ That Caesar is more dangerous than he (A2S2L46 47)

crown three times makes him likable and allows Antony to persuade the citizens to seek revenge

Is The Three To-One Blend Of Methylchloro Isothiazolinone
CMIT/MIT: The three to one blend of methylchloro isothiazolinone (CMIT) and
methylisothiazolinone (MIT) is commonly used as a biocide in polymer dispersions. CMIT/MIT is a
broad spectrum biocide that works between 3 9 pH. The mode of action for the CMIT/MIT is that it
reacts with the cell proteins causing the inhibition of respiration and ATP synthesis (PCIMAG).
Isothiazolones first mechanism which is performed in minutes is the swift inhibition of growth and
metabolism. This is then tailed by loss of viability due to irreversible cell damage which happens in a
matter of hours. Inhibition occurs by disrupting the metabolic pathways involving dehydrogenase
enzymes. Microbes are quickly inhibited due to the inhibition of critical physiological functions
including growth, respiration, and energy generation (adenosine triphosphate synthesis). Cell death
results in the destruction of protein thiols and production of free radicals. Compounds such as
surfactants can enhance and speed up the rate of inhibition and death. (Williams, 2007)
The interaction of isothiazolone biocides with microbial cells proceeds via several sequential
reactions. Initially, a biocide molecule reacts with a thiol group to form a disulphide linkage with the
biocide. This structure then interacts with a second thiol group to establish a new disulphide linkage.
Following this, the cell releases the biocide as a mercaptoacrylamide. The mercaptoacrylamide
derivative of CMIT tautomerizes to a thioacyl chloride under physiological conditions. The thioacyl
chloride is highly reactive and proceeds to interact with other cell macromolecules. The ability of
CMIT to degrade to a thioacyl chloride might account for it s much greater antimicrobial activity
when compared to BIT or MIT. (Daniel, 1997)
Barman did a study on the first order rate constant and half life values for the degradation of MIT
(Kathon 886 MW) and a MIT/CMIT (Kathon MWC) Mixture. These consist of 2 methyl 4
isothiazolin 3 one and its chlorinated counterpart, 5 chloro 2 methyl 4 isothiazolin 3 one. At 100 fold
more effective, the chlorinated counterpart is considered to be the active and require concentrations
100 fold less than MIT. In fact, at very low concentrations of just 2 20 ppm

Teotihuacan
City of the gods, temple of the sun and moon, these names sound like places out of an Indiana Jones
movie, however the idea had to come from some place. That place is the ancient city of Teotihuacan,
Mexico. Teotihuacan is found north east of Mexico City in the flat plain lands of the Mexican valley .
Named by the Aztecs who found the abandoned city, they marveled at the massive scale of the
buildings and the city itself. The only reasonable explanation the Aztecs could provide was that gods
had made the city. Little did they know that Teotihuacan was a bustling city that was around from
about 150b.c. 750a.d., and a population as high as 200,000 .Teotihuacan is massive in scale for the

perfect example of a city, it has a high population, a well thought out street system, early factories, and

Teotihuacan apart as at least the crown jewel of Mesoamerica.

Millions Danny Hales Essay
In the film, Millions, directed by Danny Boyle, a compelling character who intrigues me is the
antagonistic Anthony Cunningham. I find his complex character interesting as he is still grieving for
his mother s tragic death whilst managing to use her death to his advantage. Also, his way of thinking
and dealing with the money is very different to from many other kids his age would do. His way of
thinking has a powerful awareness of right from wrong but throughout the movie he gets it jumbled up
a bit...

this, we can see that money is going to take a significant role in the film. Anthony (along with his

Anthony is still struggling within the stages of grief and is trying hard to mask it. The director shows
this in the opening scene, the two boys delightedly lay down next to each other after riding their bikes.
As the two brothers lay down next to each other, we can see that Damian is wearing a blue shirt which
can often be interpreted as sorrow or calmness. While Anthony is wearing a red jacket which is
normally deciphered as hatred or anger. However under Anthony s red jacket, we can see that he is
also wearing a blue shirt. The director s purpose of doing this is to foreshadow that Anthony is using
ignorance to mask his misery and woe. The director shows us that Anthony disguises his sadness with
annoyance towards the end of the movie when Damian brings Dorothy into their house. This is shown
because we can see Anthony thinking that she is there to replace their mother. Due to this, we see him
whispering a angry hushed tone Is that what you want? Her in there with him, instead of Mum? .
Personally, this is quite understandable because I know that it is extremely difficult to be going
through the stages of grief after someone who is close to you s death. This could link back to my first
paragraph Anthony wants to keep a close relationship with Damian by trying to set a good example by
moving on. Anthony struggling through the hardships may also be why he is pulled in by tempting

schools of design for their abilities which brought about techniques that are still used today. These
architects were both involved in exploring the relationships of spatial distribution, form and function,
materials used, reflecting their current time through their design, and creating buildings and houses
that were both artistically beautiful as well as beneficial. Both of these architects have many common
attributes to each other s designs as well as ideas, but also the many differences that set apart these
architects as few of the many renowned architects in modern history.
Frank Lloyd Wright is an American architect who designed many houses and inspired the work of
hundreds of scholars.4 Wright believed in designing structures that were in synchronization with
humanity and its environment; a philosophy he called organic architecture .1 He read a broad array of
architecture books and thought that architecture had been pushed too much into modernization.4 He
believed in the true design of

Bottled Water Is Better Than Tap Water
Plastic is believed to constitute 90 per cent of all rubbish floating in the oceans. Bottled water does
have its place. It s useful for emergencies and essential for people whose health can t tolerate even
filtered water. But it s often no better than tap water, its environmental and social price is high, and it
lets our public guardians off the hook for protecting watersheds, stopping polluters, upgrading
treatment and distribution infrastructure, and strengthening treatment standards.
Bottled water manufacturers marketing campaigns capitalize on isolated instances of contaminated
public drinking water supplies by encouraging the perception that their products are purer and safer
than tap water. But the reality is that tap water is held to

General Principles Of Organization Law Essay
There are number of General principles which have guided the courts in their approach to organisation
law, both in terms of development of general law or interpretation of legislation. Three of these
principles are: 1. Non interference principle 2. Commercial Reality principle 3. Non Prescriptive
Principle Director s Duty at General Law The duty to act in good faith and for proper purpose
Directors are the one who manages and directs the company. Therefore, there powers must be
exercised not only in the manner required by law but also for the benefit of the company in its
processes and profits as the main purpose of the company is to make profit. If a company fails to make
profits, they have no other option but to shut down. Also, directors have to follow laws which are
under Corporations Act 2001 which consists of duties of directors and their responsibilities (Mills vs
Mills). Governance and director s role move hand in hand Directors role play a vital role in
governance of a company. Section 180 reinforces the general law principle that a person in a fiduciary
position should not make any gain by virtue of that position. Worries of Corporate Governance: Have

Gangs in Oklahoma
Gangs have been around for a long time and have caused many problems in society. When people
think of gangs they might think Los Angeles or Chicago, but Oklahoma s gang violence has been at
the same level as most major cities are dealing with. Gangs are a major problem in Oklahoma.
Gang members continue to increase in the state of Oklahoma. The main age group that joins these
gangs are teenagers and pre teens. Kids without enough attention or not having a father figure in their
life tend to join gangs. Kids want comfort and security and some feel they can find that in gangs. And
those are the kids we really need to focus on if we want to help prevent gangs in our society.

Anyone convicted under the proposed law would face an automatic increase in prison sentence, and
some homicides would become death penalty eligible(Journal Record, Staff). I believe this method
might not be successful due to many homicides committed by gang members which would cause
many young men to face the death penalty. A series of recommendations from various subcommittees
were brought together wednesday during a meeting of two panels working on gang violence issues,
but the element of time was also a key issue discussed by those in attendance at the state capitol
(Packham). State Sen. Constace Johnson, believes that we should focus more on education programs
to help prevent gang affiliation(Packham). Subcommittees suggested to train neighborhood
associations on how to identify and control different gangs and their activities (Packham). Atwood
feels that more funding sources are being diverted to other priority areas(Packham). There has been
plenty of recommendations we should use for gang prevention that are great ideas and can work. But I
feel they need to be executed better. The Oklahoma Arts Council and the Oklahoma City Police
Department may seem unlikely partners in gang prevention, but their work together has been
promising. since 2007, the police department has operated the F.A.C.T. program (Family Awareness

The Heroic Code Of Sir Gawain
Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and army officer, once said, Success is not
final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts (Winston Churchill). Sir Gawain
displayed these action and emotion during the fight to defeat the Green Knight. Sir Gawain was faced
with many trials and tribulations through his journey that forced him to stay true to his Heroic Code.
The principles that Sir Gawain demonstrated in the pursuit of the Green Knight are respecting women,
service to the king with bravery, honor, and faith, and staying committed to his religious practices. Sir
Gawain kept these guidelines true to his heart throughout his expedition to defeat the Green Knight

Dear lady, said the other, don t think such a thing, I dare not kiss in case I am declined . (Greenblatt)
Sir Gawain continues to stay true to the code of chivalry and politely decline the offer that the host s
wife presents. Even though, women during the medieval era did not receive a high social status,
Knights still held a heroic code to respect and honor women (Medieval Women). Thus, proves Sir
Gawain commitment in valuing the heroic code. Towards the end of poem, Sir Gawain beings to
notice the sins and failures that he has committed all along the journey to the Green Chapel. Sir
Gawain realizes that he is responsible for greed and lack of faith that he endured on his travels. To
make up for the mistakes he has committed he seeks out help from God. This is another example of
the heroic code presented by the faith that Sir Gawain has in God. Sir Gawain finally comes face to
face with the Green Knight, where Sir Gawain only receives a small wound to the neck. The Green
Knight applauded Sir Gawain s courage and determination to defend King Arthur s round table
(Greenblatt). When Sir Gawain returns to the Kingdom of Camelot he describes his journey and
interactions to King Arthur and the other knights. Sir Gawain explains that he is thankful for the battle

specifically the written aspect of the language. It is considered one of, if not the, oldest writing system
in the world that is still in use today, although now they are altered and simplified the Chinese writing

The simple coins used to identify and categorize farming goods gave rise to the practice of pressing
coins into the clay tablets to make a like image of the coins in the form of raised symbols on the clay;
the coins used to identify farming and manufacturing goods were then used to create a new format to
be drawn on the clay tablets with a tool called a stylus. The marks left on the clay by using the stylus
had a wedge shaped appearance which is how these images received the name of cuneiform meaning
wedge writing. The earliest known implementation of cuneiform to symbolize sounds produced by the
Sumerian tongue show up on pieces of clay that are estimated to have been produced around the time
of 3100BC. These tablets were discovered around a city called Jemdet, in ancient Nasr which is
located in the same area where Iraq resides today. The steps towards a complete writing system of the
Sumerian language most likely developed around 400 to 900 years after the introduction of the
cuneiform tablets mentioned above, this process entails the transition of using these images as a
representation of sounds that the Sumerian language creates instead of actual visual representations of
the objects that they are in reference of or as memory aids. After the change from images representing

Similarities Between Halloween And Day Of The Dead
Halloween is a fun, worldwide holiday. Today, Halloween, for children, is going out onto the streets
and roaming from house to house asking for, mainly, candy. For adults, Halloween could mean parties,
or handing out things to the children, or spending time with family. A similar holiday to Halloween,
Day of the Dead. Day of the Dead is mainly limited to hispanic culture, however it has started to
spread in more recent years. During Day of the Dead families create altars to attract and guide loved
ones to their home, and the afterlife. Día de los Muertos consists of many community wide
celebrations, and parties. During Day of the Dead many people will dress up as skeletons and parade
the streets of their community. These holidays might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The belief in the afterlife involved with this holiday is very similar to that of the mesoamericans. The
aztecs in particular had a month long celebration, very similar to that of Day of the Dead, in which
they honored and delivered offerings to the deceased. When the spaniards arrived they did a fair job of
popularizing their faith among the mesoamericans. The mesoamericans moved their month long
celebration of death to coincide with the catholic holidays of All Saints and All Souls(November 1st
and 2nd). Today, Day of the Dead is about celebrating death by creating altars carpeted with offerings
to the souls of loved ones. Today, an iconic symbol of Día de los Muertos is the skeleton, one of the
most significant skeleton characters is La Catrina. Day of the Dead is now picking up bits and pieces
of Halloween tradition. Children are now participating in pedir los muertos, or ask the dead, during
which children dress in costumes and meander, receiving candy as well as things from people s day of
the dead altars, in some places. Halloween has already spread worldwide, and been given many
cultural interpretations of what it represents, and how it should be celebrated. However, Día de los
Muertos has just recently started spreading farther outside of hispanic culture. Día de los Muertos is a
holiday celebrating death and the afterlife that death brings, as well as embracing the deceased as if
they are, in a way, gods. Whereas, Halloween s

An Example Of Social Conflict Theory In The Blind Side
The movie The Blind Side shows many examples of Social Conflict Theory as discussed and covered
this semester in class. A movie set in Memphis, Tennessee, released November 2009, it is a story of a
young black man overcoming difficulties concerning racial stereotypes, racial inequality, and poverty.
Based on a true life story, Michael Oher was faced with many challenges that was out of his control
and the movie shows how he overcome many of those unfortunate challenges with the help of the
wealthy Tuohy family. The Tuohy family is a well to do family that lives on what is considered the
other side of the tracks from where Michael Oher grew up. Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy take Michael
under their wings and into their care and the story evolves from there. When you study the society

Shostakovich Essay
The symphony is a large and complex musical piece that has the potential to express a wide breadth of
experiences and emotions. While the symphony was developed intensely in the eighteenth century in
Vienna, the tradition of symphony has long since spread to other countries, providing the composers
of different nationalities the opportunity to introduce their own colors into the symphony.
Consequently, as different countries develop musical characteristics in the symphony to create their
own symphonic tradition, these symphonies can be seen as an expression of national identity. Whether
voluntarily or involuntarily, the circumstances surrounding the works and the composers intentions for
their work have a profound impact on the relationship between a symphony and the national identity it
expresses. Some symphonic composers, limited by the rules set forth by the government, were forced
to compose symphonies that strongly expressed the identity of a nation. An example of such a
composer is Dmitri Shostakovich. A Russian composer in a time when the Soviet Union controlled all
aspects of life, as well as music, Shostakovich was once criticized for some of his works for not
adhering to the expectations of the government. Shostakovich s opera The Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk
District and his ballet The Limpid Stream were both denounced, which placed great pressure on
Shostakovich because such denunciation could lead to violent consequences (Taruskin 22). As a result,

Malcolm isn t like the other kids in Inglewood; he has straight A s, an almost perfect SAT score and

shockingly tone deaf and surprisingly on point. This essay will represent why Malcolm s story isn t

Gays in the Military Essay

Gays would be proud and determined to protect this beautiful country in which we live. I personally

On one hand you have the In group which is non gay people, and on the other hand we have the Out
group which is the gay and lesbian community. This is a classic example of how a prejudice is used to
keep the, Out group down and out. This is because any culture that tries to identify and prosecute
something as hidden as a secret homosexual identity can only do so by creating a climate of fear and
hypocrisy. It must encourage unfounded accusations and it must submit unfairly accused people to
brutal and destructive interrogations. In the case of gays, this must be done whether or not the
suspected parties recognize themselves as gay or lesbian prior to the interrogations. Military examples
of these interrogations sometimes sound like brainwashing. There are currently gays in the military. A
ban cannot keep gays out. There are just as many gays in the military as there are in civilian life.
Policing the military to eliminate homosexuality does not eliminate homosexuals but it does create a
climate of anxiety that causes a sexually toxic situation for everyone, straights as well as gays,
because straights can be mislabeled as gay in our current military. Straights are also able to keep gays
down because of this anxiety. The present view of our government on gays in the military is a policy

  • 2. The Tuskegee Study Essay President Clinton in 1997 apologized for the harm caused by what might be called as America s most notorious medical experiments, The Tuskegee Study saying The legacy of the study at Tuskegee has reached far and deep, in ways that hurt our progress and divides our nation. We cannot be one America when a whole segment of our nation has no trust in America. An apology is the first step, and we take it with a commitment to rebuild that broken trust. We can begin by making sure there is never again another episode like this one. We need to do more to ensure that medical research practices are sound and ethical, and that researchers work more closely with communities. In 1972, however, reports of the experiment were leaked into the press and the experiment was halted. This led to an outcry among the African American community. But by that time, many of the participants had died and many others had passed on the disease to their wives and children. (Reverby, S.M., 2009) This study was a symbol of unethical conduct and racial discrimination in medicine primarily because of two reasons. First, the subjects were never told that they had syphilis and thus, informed consent did not play any role in this experiment. Secondly, the subjects were told that they were being treated for bad blood , a term used in the local language for various illnesses such as anemia and fatigue. In reality, however, the officials never treated the subjects for syphilis. The subjects were only provided free medical exams, free meals and burial insurance in return for their participation in the study. The only permission which was taken from the subjects was that to autopsy their body after death as also paying for their burial. Thus, the Tuskegee experiment can be described as non therapeutic experiment that lasted for a very long duration of 40 years. (Reverby, S.M., 2009) It draws our attention to a very important factor of racial discrimination. The concept of race, however, was not initiated because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Asher is able to talk to Yudel like a father, having open discussions with him, and on occasion helps him in the store and is able to feel comfortable. The store is described as warm by Asher in the latter part of the text when returning from Europe, and is appropriately addressed because it feels like Asher s second home, warm and cozy. Our mind conjures an image of Yudel after Chaim Potok s first technique of imagery is used to describe him. He was short and thin, with large bulging eyes, a beaklike nose, and pinched wrinkled features. A dark stubble covered his face. He starts of being described in uncomplimentary terms. Asher perceives him as being peculiar and foreign. You learned the store quickly, said Aryeh, I have learned more difficult things than this store ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Determining The Ksp Value For Silver Acetate Essay Determining the Ksp value for silver acetate. Introduction: An equilibrium constant for a solid substance that is dissolving in an aqueous solution is represented by the solubility product constant, where the concentrations of different ions from the solid substance (compound) are used to calculate the solubility product constant. If the solubility product constant vale is high then the substance is very soluble in an aqueous solution. The solubility product constant is denoted by Ksp, and for a common reaction: aA(s) ⇌ cC(aq)+dD(aq)T The Ksp= [C(aq)]c[D(aq)]d The concentration of the solid (aA) doesn t contribute to the equilibrium constant because their concentration doesn t change the expression of the equilibrium constant. Any change in their concentration isn t that important as the ions and therefore they are taken out of the expression, hence, the solubility product constant represents the amount of solid that can be dissolved in a solution. One important effect on the solubility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The solution was swirled to induce precipitation, the swirling was for 30 minutes. This past week Italy formally asked the European commission to require country of origin on pastas sold in Italy. As many expected, this has caused an uproar with international companies, most notably Canadian, who believe this requirement will cause lessen sales. Italy s proposed plan is to show where the wheat is grown and milled on the pasta packaging. This regulation would clearly be a detriment to Canadian pasta brands and would also require Italian pasta brands to segregate from one another by country. With margins in consideration, this will surely increase the cost of moving durum into Italy. Italy has been Canada s second largest foreign buyer of durum in the 2016 17 ... On September 11, 2013, a United States district judge refused to stop the government from requiring more specific labels on beef, pork, poultry and lamb products that were sold in the United States (The Pig Site). This served as a victory for defenders of the mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) policy. COOL, is a controversial United States food and agricultural labeling policy that was implemented and deemed mandatory in 2009. The policy requires that fresh foods, most notably meat, must indicate on the label where the product was born, grown, raised and slaughtered (The Pig Project). It is not a secret that international and domestic businesses operate differently, As mentioned in chapter 1 of the textbook, companies can expand their sales by engaging in international business. In this case, Canada exports their pasta in hopes of tapping into the enormous pasta market or Italy. In fact, according to a study done in 2014 by the International Pasta Organization, Italy is the clear ahead leader in pasta consumption per capita. • 11. Rhetorical Analysis Of Antony s Speech Antony gave the most effective funeral speech to thoroughly convince the Roman people to side with him and rebel against the conspirators. In order to accomplish this, Antony uses the persuasive techniques logos, ethos, and pathos. To start his speech, Antony opens with some kind words about Caesar. Antony uses ethos by speaking kindly of Caesar and saying, He was my friend, he was faithful and just to me (line 81). Antony appears to be a honest and humble man mourning for his friend. By saying Brutus is an honorable man (line 83), Antony places himself on the crowd s side because up to this point the crowd is in favor of Brutus. Antony has made himself seem more trustworthy which also utilizes ethos. He then continues to speak of Caesar s great deeds that do not support Brutus s claim of Caesar s ambition. For example, Antony tells of Caesar saying, He brought many captives home to Rome whose ransoms brought wealth to the city (line 83). This is all Brutus wants Antony to say but Antony continues and asks the crowd, Is this the work of an ambitious man (line 89)? Antony is using logos to influence the Roman people because he provides a counterexample to the claims of Caesar s ambition. Furthermore, Antony places doubt in Brutus by saying, Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is an honorable man (lines 91 92). This use of logos allows Antony to prove Brutus wrong, even if he does not say it out loud. Antony utilizes pathos by drawing sympathy from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ACL is very different from other tendons and ligaments, with varied orientation of the bundles and complex structural organization. Thus, it provides a structure able to resist tensile strains and multi axial stresses enforced upon it. The histology of anterolateral ligament has been described as a structure in the lateral femoral condyle connected by lateral knee with the tibial plateau and lateral meniscus. The histological studies of ALL prove it to be a structure surrounded by synovium with a fibrous core. For a while, Gregor s sister, Grete takes good care of her brother and continues to love him, but unfortunately that does not last very long, and she is forced to get a job and go to work. That way she spends less time with her brother, and soon she develops a sense of disgust towards Gregor, and so she stops visiting him and left him in isolation. Repercussions Of Julius Caesar s Poor Leadership Tiffany Tsang Clarke World Core, Period 1 25 November 2014 Repercussions of Julius Caesar s Poor Leadership William Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar highlights how weak leaders affect society s condition. Shakespeare displays this through the actions of multiple characters, one of whom is Julius Caesar, a Roman general and senator greatly favored by the people. Caesar enters the play by ignoring a soothsayer s omen to beware the ides of March, an action that is indicative of his belief in his personal invulnerability. Caesar s continuous disregard of warnings of his death manifests into his ultimate demise. • 17. Is The Three To-One Blend Of Methylchloro Isothiazolinone CMIT/MIT: The three to one blend of methylchloro isothiazolinone (CMIT) and methylisothiazolinone (MIT) is commonly used as a biocide in polymer dispersions. CMIT/MIT is a broad spectrum biocide that works between 3 9 pH. The mode of action for the CMIT/MIT is that it reacts with the cell proteins causing the inhibition of respiration and ATP synthesis (PCIMAG). Isothiazolones first mechanism which is performed in minutes is the swift inhibition of growth and metabolism. This is then tailed by loss of viability due to irreversible cell damage which happens in a matter of hours. Inhibition occurs by disrupting the metabolic pathways involving dehydrogenase enzymes. Microbes are quickly inhibited due to the inhibition of critical physiological functions including growth, respiration, and energy generation (adenosine triphosphate synthesis). Cell death results in the destruction of protein thiols and production of free radicals. Compounds such as surfactants can enhance and speed up the rate of inhibition and death. (Williams, 2007) The interaction of isothiazolone biocides with microbial cells proceeds via several sequential reactions. Initially, a biocide molecule reacts with a thiol group to form a disulphide linkage with the biocide. This structure then interacts with a second thiol group to establish a new disulphide linkage. Following this, the cell releases the biocide as a mercaptoacrylamide. The mercaptoacrylamide derivative of CMIT tautomerizes to a thioacyl chloride under physiological conditions. The thioacyl chloride is highly reactive and proceeds to interact with other cell macromolecules. The ability of CMIT to degrade to a thioacyl chloride might account for it s much greater antimicrobial activity when compared to BIT or MIT. (Daniel, 1997) Barman did a study on the first order rate constant and half life values for the degradation of MIT (Kathon 886 MW) and a MIT/CMIT (Kathon MWC) Mixture. These consist of 2 methyl 4 isothiazolin 3 one and its chlorinated counterpart, 5 chloro 2 methyl 4 isothiazolin 3 one. That place is the ancient city of Teotihuacan, Mexico. Teotihuacan is found north east of Mexico City in the flat plain lands of the Mexican valley . Named by the Aztecs who found the abandoned city, they marveled at the massive scale of the buildings and the city itself. The only reasonable explanation the Aztecs could provide was that gods had made the city. While Anthony is wearing a red jacket which is normally deciphered as hatred or anger. However under Anthony s red jacket, we can see that he is also wearing a blue shirt. The director s purpose of doing this is to foreshadow that Anthony is using ignorance to mask his misery and woe. The director shows us that Anthony disguises his sadness with annoyance towards the end of the movie when Damian brings Dorothy into their house. This is shown because we can see Anthony thinking that she is there to replace their mother. Due to this, we see him whispering a angry hushed tone Is that what you want? The mastermind behind any type of architecture is the architect itself. Two well known and respected architects in modern history are Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Both known for their amazing architectural thoughts, and the inspirations that affected many other architects. Both, Wright and Rohe, created new schools of design for their abilities which brought about techniques that are still used today. These architects were both involved in exploring the relationships of spatial distribution, form and function, materials used, reflecting their current time through their design, and creating buildings and houses that were both artistically beautiful as well as beneficial. Both of these architects have many common attributes to each other s designs as well as ideas, but also the many differences that set apart these architects as few of the many renowned architects in modern history. While the symphony was developed intensely in the eighteenth century in Vienna, the tradition of symphony has long since spread to other countries, providing the composers of different nationalities the opportunity to introduce their own colors into the symphony. Consequently, as different countries develop musical characteristics in the symphony to create their own symphonic tradition, these symphonies can be seen as an expression of national identity. Whether voluntarily or involuntarily, the circumstances surrounding the works and the composers intentions for their work have a profound impact on the relationship between a symphony and the national identity it expresses. Some symphonic composers, limited by the rules set forth by the government, were forced to compose symphonies that strongly expressed the identity of a nation. This essay will represent why Malcolm s story isn t the norm for movies in popular culture and why it still follows some of the stereotypes seen in the media through an outside source, by using the Rhetorical Method as well as the Race Ethnicity Method. After this question is answered you can begin analyzing the problem. The answer to the question, Do gays want to be in the military?, is an unquestioned yes. Gays would be proud and determined to protect this beautiful country in which we live. On one hand you have the In group which is non gay people, and on the other hand we have the Out group which is the gay and lesbian community. This is a classic example of how a prejudice is used to keep the, Out group down and out. This is because any culture that tries to identify and prosecute something as hidden as a secret homosexual identity can only do so by creating a climate of fear and hypocrisy. It must encourage unfounded accusations and it must submit unfairly accused people to brutal and destructive interrogations. In the case of gays, this must be done whether or not the suspected parties recognize themselves as gay or lesbian prior to the interrogations. Military examples of these interrogations sometimes sound like brainwashing. There are currently gays in the military. A ban cannot keep gays out. There are just as many gays in the military as there are in civilian life. Policing the military to eliminate homosexuality does not eliminate homosexuals but it does create a climate of anxiety that causes a sexually toxic situation for everyone, straights as well as gays, because straights can be mislabeled as gay in our current military. Straights are also able to keep gays down because of this anxiety. The present view of our government on gays in the military is a policy first brought up by the Clinton administration, and that is a policy of Don t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
