Rhetorical Criticism Of Reagan s Challenger Speech
A Rhetorical Criticism of Reagan s Challenger Address
Lu Jia
This essay will attempt to analyze Ronald Reagan s Challenger address in terms of the rhetorical
situation theorized by Dr. Blitzer and elaborated by Dr. Zarefsky in his book Public Speaking. The
effectiveness of the Challenger address will be evaluated by carefully identifying and examining each
of the four components of the rhetorical situation within the context of this speech.
Background
On the morning of January 28th, 1986, Americans watched in shock and horror as the space shuttle
Challenger exploded only 74 seconds after its launch, killing all seven crew members on board
including a high school teacher Christa McAuliffe. Thousands, including families of the crew and
schoolchildren ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He highly praised the courage and adventurous spirit of the crew members ( they had a hunger to
explore the universe ) and acknowledged their mission as a service to the country ( they served all of
us ).
Another sub audience who needed more guidance and consolation were the schoolchildren, especially
those who witnessed the disaster in person. Reagan briefly changed his tone to that of a grandfather
and tried to ease his children s fear by explaining to them sometimes painful things like this happen .
He also encouraged them to be brave and carry on with Challenger s legacy by saying the Challenger
crew was pulling us into the future, and we ll continue to follow them .
Reagan then reassured that the space program would continue to operate and what happened today
does nothing to diminish it . This message sought to protect the ongoing space programs and was
dedicated to the last sub audience of his speech: the NASA people. He acknowledged their hard work
and expressed sympathy for their loss of friends and coworkers.

Teenage Drinking Essay
Teenage Drinking
According to Lang nine out of ten high school seniors have used alcohol, one out of twenty use it
daily, and one out of three will get drunk during any given weekend (back cover). Teenage drinking is
a very serious problem that is growing by the day in our country. I want to know what kids who drink
are getting themselves in to when they decide to start in high school or junior high. What types of
health and psychological problems will they be facing? What are the chances that they will become
addicted to alcohol, or to some other drug, for life? My father is an alcoholic and has been so for most,
if not all, of his life. He began drinking at about the age of twelve, while an altar boy for his
church/school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of them had more information that the others did not; for example, Getting tough on Gateway
Drugs centers on alcohol as a first step in the addiction process for most children who become
alcoholics (Dupont). They all helped me answer my important questions and agreed on the
information they gave. I started out my search at the local library, looked through some books about
alcohol, and found several ranging from its uses and abuses to teenage drinking. I did not bother
looking in the encyclopedia because I figured that the people who wrote these books had already done
it for me. The first book I looked through was by Alan R. Lang (February 29, 2000); I skimmed
through the table of contents of the book and saw that it had a section devoted to the short term as well
as the long term effects of alcohol. So, in order to get a better understanding of this issue I turned to
the specified page and found that the effect of alcohol is directly related to ones BAC, or blood
alcohol concentration (Lang 39). This is what makes different kinds of people engage in a wide array
of behaviors, such as when two people drink the same amount of alcohol but the person who has more
body mass does not feel the effects of the alcohol. The other person, who has less body mass will get
drunk faster and is said to have less of a tolerance for alcohol .
In Volger s Teenagers and Alcohol, I found an excellent table outlining the

Beaded Christmas Observation
Pictured above is a hobby that I am interested in trying, beaded Christmas ornaments and these are
way different than from the ones in the late 1960 s. There are kits available at stores and online of
course but many times I do not have the time to learn a new hobby. Eventually I will find the time to
make these ornaments. I like the way they are displayed on their own arm hooks, they look so dainty
and festive and the colors can be changed for the holidays and not necessary ornaments for Christmas.
The person who did these ornaments is creative and of course has the time to do something they love
and not consider it work. By the way the room is situated this person is very organized as well. It also
looks like she or he does crochet as well by noticing the doily on the table and that is a craft that still
eludes me as well as knitting, but I still want to learn those eventually.
By looking out the window, you can see a bit of the garden which looks to me well maintained.
Somehow the image reminds me of a home in the country. It also looks like they like the color green
by the tablecloth they have on the table, which is a good sized table to do various crafts. So, it would

problem we may be having at work, school, or in life. It is like the deep practice Coyle has mention in

A Manifesto For Cyborgs By Donna Haraway
In A Manifesto for Cyborgs: Science, Technology, and Socialist Feminism in the 1980s, Donna
Haraway gives an introduction to cyberfeminism and argues that there should be a new way to view
the world and the issues that are currently faced The ironic political myth faithful to feminism,
socialism, and materialism would ultimately be the cyborg (2190). The cyborg has no origin,
therefore, it can understand the world without bias. Haraway discusses three important boundaries that
support her main ideas throughout her essay.
The boundary between human and animal is Haraway s way of saying that humans and animals are
the same and should not be put into separate categories. The cyborg can think beyond the thought of
humans and animals separately and view them as one species. The boundary between animal human
and machine is used to describe the way Haraway views machines. Machines were lifeless.
Nevertheless, machines have advanced beyond belief and there is no longer a distinction between
humans and machines. Lastly, Haraway discusses the boundary between the physical and the non
physical with an example of televisions. Televisions use light. Nonetheless, no one can actually touch
light so therefore the line between the physical and non physical is distorted. ... Show more content on

It came from his lifelong passion to help man to a higher plane of civilization and existence. Mr.
Hubbard was not only a writer, but a full Renaissance man too. He was born on March 13, 1911 in
new England. He traveled to many places as he moved from child to adult. He took trips to Orient,
directed two expeditions to the Caribbean, and found himself in Asia a few times.
It was in his travels to Asia that he ended up seeing multiple counts of misery and pain. He asked
himself why all this and What depths can man fall to ? He found that there was not much known about
the true nature of man and became fascinated with this line of research to which he made his life s
work. He found that the common denominator of existence is survival and outlined the theory that life
is composed of two things, the material universe and an X factor...that can evidently organize and
mobilize the material universe. His first major work on the subject was called Dianetics, The Modern
Science of Mental Health. Dianetics is a methodology which is designed to help relieve people of such
things as unwanted sensations and emotions, irrational fears and psychosomatic illnesses. Dianetics is
defined as what the soul is doing to the body as a complete. It is basically a mental therapy which led
to the study of Scientology.
To understand Scientology, you have to have an open mind to other beliefs then the ones you currently

The Political System And The United Kingdom Essay
The political systems in the United States of America, and the United Kingdom are fairly different due
to several policies. The most predominant difference that could be deducted from their policies is the
difference in selecting their government. The United States base their elections off of what is known
as the Electoral College. The Electoral College is a process that was created by the founding fathers,
written in the Constitution. Not only is it a compromise made between the election of the President by
a vote in Congress, but also the election of the President due to popular vote of eligible citizens. In
total, there are 538 electors that make up the Electoral College. However, for the President to be
elected there is a required majority of 270 electoral votes that need to be won. If you obtain the most
votes within a state, then you will win the seats of that state that help the potential President to get 270
electoral votes. The way in which the number of seats in each state is decided is through
Congressional delegation; there is one for each member of the House of Representatives, and two
others for the Senators. The Electoral College is particularly interesting due to the reason that even if
you win the popular vote, you may not necessarily be elected as President. The most recent example
of this is the 2016 presidential election between democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, and republican
Donald Trump. Clinton did in fact receive more votes than Trump; however,

Essay On Billy
Charles was on his way back from the pub. Charles, an average looking eighteen year old with brown
eyes, bright blue eyes, and a slender build, was thinking about billy. The last time he had heard from
Billy was about a year ago and he was looking for a place to stay in Bath. Charles asked around but
nobody had seen him. It was beginning to get dark and Charles needed a place to stay for the night.
Flaming red chrysanthemums caught his eye. He peered through the window and saw the bright,
burning fire, a sleeping dog, it all seemed so comforting. He thought it wouldn t be such a bad idea ,
and maybe Billy had stayed there. Maybe the landlady would know which way he went. It seemed like

Charles thought more about Billy. He wondered if maybe he mentioned to the landlady which way he
was going. The more he thought he realized Billy never checked out. It might have been a mistake but,
the landlady was very persistent about the guest book. Charles was so lost in thought he found himself
on the fourth floor. He saw one of the doors cracked open so he decided to peek in. He saw Billy
sitting in a chair reading a book! Billy! He said as he ran up to him. The closer her got he realized
something was very wrong. Billy was not breathing. When Charles touched him he felt cold, still, and
lifeless. Terror ran through Charles blood but he was smart. He knew if he panicked he would die too.
Charles put on his most serious face as his heart raced and headed downstairs to have tea with the
deranged landlady. She was sitting on the couch and there was a tea tray on the table in front of her.
She handed him a teacup and took a sip from her own. He sat by the fire trying to figure out what to
do. He held the tea cup up to his mouth and and just before taking a dip he smelt bitter almonds.
Charles knew cyanide had a smell and taste of bitter almonds. He set his tea down next to hers.
I m going to wait for it to cool down a bit he said.
So, Mr.Perkins what brings you

Watersheds
Watersheds are important because water such as stormwater or surface water drain to other bodies of
water. To help our watershed it doesn t seem too hard if we get the right help, it might take a lot of
time and dedication but not impossible. My partner and I had a few ideas but we decided on one. Our
way to help our watershed would be by putting sea bins in some rivers that you can tell are
contaminated with trash. We started brainstorming and ended up with the thought about putting a sea
bin in the Poudre River first for like a month or two to see if there s any difference. If putting a sea bin
there is successful then we thought about putting more sea bins in rivers in Colorado. In order for this
to work we would have to request people for the help we need, buy materials, place sea bin in the
river, constantly check on our idea and take data. We need data because that s a way to know if sea
bins help or not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In Rolf Strootman s, Courts and Elites in the Hellenistic Empires, he discusses the Kingdoms of the
Hellenistic era, there courts, how kingdoms were developed, the importance of military might,
emphasis of the king as a war hero, king viewed as a liberator of cities and the development of
diplomatic relations with the cities that are being governed by the kings.1 Strootman looks at three
kingdoms to explain how the kingdoms in this empire function, they are the Ptolemies, Antigonids,
and the Seleukids. In these empires, Strootman explains how the kingdoms were mostly nomadic, in
the way that the court would constantly move around and follow the king where ever he went.2 So

Kingdoms in this era were subject to imperial claims (other than by the emperor), making the role of
emperor not absolute and in constant struggle to maintain control over, through negotiations or
confrontations.5
In this book, Strootman elaborates on how there are two essential diagrams for exposing political
assertiveness during the Hellenistic period shedding light on the function of imperialism, the first
describes the court as a political structure used to assert power but this idea is rivaled with the
importance of the theater and the important role it played in to support the role of the king and his
court against the courts of others. The other is describing capital and cities as tools of a power play
made by those of power (the king and his courtiers).6 These arguments as Strootman exposes to the
reader that based off of the ideas of Norbert Elias, Jurgen von Kruedener and Charles Tilly, we are
able to better understand the function of court during this era.7 Kruedener as mentioned by Strootman
explains how the role of favor with the king was vital to the attainment of power within the kingdom,
disbursement of land holdings, duties of offices and this was all done through exposure before the
king through the instrument of court. Although the king and his court

Discipline As A Teacher
Children must be taught and guided in the right direction. Whenever discipline is implemented, the
child is learning the proper behavior and is acquiring new knowledge. With the teacher s clear
explanation which will give the child understanding, the child should gain wisdom. Wisdom comes
through experience. Wisdom has been defined as having the knowledge of what is proper and
appropriate and having the ability to apply that knowledge with just judgment ccording to knowledge,
experience, and understanding (Merriam Webster s online dictionary, n.d). In order for our children to
grow in knowledge and understanding, they must learn and show discipline.
As teachers, we are challenged to guide our students in a way that encourages independence. This
means that what we are teaching them, they will learn to do for themselves. Discipline helps to instill
the proper behavior. Practicing the proper behavior produces routine. Routine then in turn displays
discipline. Discipline is taught. Where there is discipline, there comes knowledge and wisdom, which
exemplifies the purpose of teaching and learning.
When it comes to raising a child, which we as teachers also take on, we may all have different
methods, but each method should evolve from the guide that was given in the Good Book, The Holy
Bible. Ephesians 6:4 states, Fathers do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them.
Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. We must

regular hook ups or casual dates, among other things, without commitment or the complications of
things getting too serious. Witt wonders what this foreshadows for the human connection through the

Belgium is known for a culture of high quality beer and this concept was formulated by an electrical
engineer from Fort Collins, Colorado. The electrical engineer, Jeff Lebesch, was traveling through
Belgium on his fat tired mountain bike when he envisioned the same high quality beer in Colorado.
Lebesch acquired the special strain of yeast used in Belgium and took it back to his basement in
Colorado and the experimentation process was initiated. His friends were the samplers and when they

activities for the pleasure of doing them well and in accord with the natural environment. Second,
there was a key fact in promotion. In the beginning, NBB used word of mouth, but recognized a need
to reach more customers. They increased the awareness of the NBB product by attending festivals to

of twenty five to forty four with the image of being practical. The ad focuses on presenting the
organizational image of being down to earth by positioning the brand as fanciful, thoughtful and

Analysis Of The Chrysanthemums By John Steinbeck
When I was young I heard red chrysanthemums symbolize love and deep warmth. And Yellow
chrysanthemums symbolize neglected love or sadness. Thus, I picked the story the chrysanthemums
which was composed by John Steinbeck。 The story is recited from a third person; we are confident
that we are sharing with a narrator, who is far away from the character s feelings and emotions.
Likewise, the story focuses on Elisa. It allows us omniscient access into Elisa s thoughts, but for the
most part, it does not draw her thoughts. This point of view is necessary to the story because it is
clearly showing us that men around the twenties disregard a lot of beautiful and intelligent women like
Elisa.
When Elisa is watching her husband with two other men studied the machine, the narrator describes
the Elisa s outfit for us, Her figure was blocked and heavy in her gardening costume, a man s black hat
pulled low down over her eyes, clodhopper shoes, a figured print dress almost completely covered by
a big corduroy apron. In general, Elisa does not dress like a housewife , as a woman who has a
business husband, she is supposed to put on a pretty dress, not being unobtrusive of her beauty, rising
child at home... However, Elisa would rather hold out like men than wearing fancy dresses as a

What Are The Social Qualities Of The 1920 s Flappers
The book Flapper by Joshua Zeitz is a book on the modern woman and the correlation to the 1920 s
flapper. It talked about the political, social, and economic qualities of the 1920 s that created the
modern woman and the infamous 1920 s flapper. The government and its president were mentioned
especially when it came to making war look good through the new form of advertisement. The
movies, books, stars, and style were by far the most popular subject of the book. The one percenters
and the women who wore knock off Chanel and plastic gold were both described in great detail. In
Flapper the political, economic, and social qualities of the 1920 s proved that the the infamous flapper
and the modern woman were one in the same. In Chapter 17 Joshua ... Show more content on

One already knows that Zelda was the first flapper, but believe me after her there were many more.
Lipstick was a cover name for a famous 1920 s newspaper columnist, who wrote about her weekly
adventures about New York as a flapper. She drank, slept with various men, smoked, wore dresses that
didn t cover her knees, and she was sexy, rebellious, modern, graceful, honest, funny, and every
teenage girls dream. Lipstick lived a life that so many women of the 1920 s wanted to be. Then there
was the movie stars. Clara, Colleen, and Brooks were the flappers on the screen. Surprisingly only one
of these girls actually embodied the flapper lifestyle off the screen. Brooks was this single actress. She
slept with various actors, directors, and partied late. She drank and smoked. Brooks was actually from
Kansas but literally ripped the Kansas out of her and built up a New York flapper instead. She hated
Hollywood and never wanted to act but life took her that way. Clara however, loved to act and was
just about the luckiest girl in the world. She won a contest that she probably shouldn t have won
because of her poverty stricken life and horrible luck. However, she won and it brought her fame and
fortune. Everyone loved her and she loved everyone. She smiled and said hello to everyone. Clara was
the girl next door in Hollywood and the crowd loved it. Colleen is the daughter with connections. She
got in by her uncle and once this Daddy, what is beer? act wore off, she hit the bar and cut her hair and
became the irish flapper. She was the one that mother s would use to say it was ok to by their
daughters dresses and let them live in the footsteps of flapperdom. Colleen was a proper wife and only
a flapper on screen or so said the papers. The flappers of the 1920 s were the life of the party and were
the first modern women. The way they acted, talked, dressed, and were viewed was everything to

Is Joe Keller A Tragic Hero Essay
Heroes come in all forms, and one of the oldest and most famous is the tragic hero. Tragic heroes were
often used by Aristotle, and he is credited for perfecting the character type with his rules of the
Aristotelian Tragedy. Another of trail of tragic heroes would be created when the playwright Arthur
Miller came in with his New Age tragic heroes, and even since they didn t fall into all the base rules,
Miller defended their place. Although Arthur Miller claims his characters are tragic heroes, Joe Keller
from All My Sons is not a tragic hero because he is not pre eminently great, he invokes no sense of
pity in the audience, and he dies at the end of the story.
Joe Keller starts of the story with quite a bit of money and a factory but he ... Show more content on

This is problematic for multiple reasons. Even though it does not inherently state in the rules of an
Aristotelian Tragedy that the hero must not die, Joe Keller s death breaks a few other rules. One being
that the punishment is not fully deserved. If a man was being held in court for the deaths of 22
individuals and was found guilty, there is no doubt his penalty would be death. The other rule being
broken is that the fall is not pure loss, and there must be a gain in self awareness. A dead man learns
nothing. He dies then the story ends with his wife and son mourning his over his dead body. The real
seller on why Joe keller is not a tragic hero doesn t lie there though, there is one more giant reason
why Joe Keller does not fit the bill of a tragic hero. Not only does Arthur Miller break two big rules of
the Aristotelian Tragedy, but he also breaks his own main rule for a tragedy. Tragedy is the
consequence of a man s total compulsion to evaluate himself justly (Miller). Joe Keller has a moment
of self realization before he takes his own life. Joe Keller dies before that realization ever sets in. In a
story like Oedipus, the hero doesn t die and lives his life seeing the true error of his ways. Joe Keller s
suicide was a big mistake if Arthur Miller wanted him to be a tragic

Compromise of 1850
At the time of the creation of the Constitution, the issue of slavery had been put off and avoided, a
decision that would later lead to the controversy now known as the American Civil War. The
composition, which was once the solution to problems that the Union was having, had the opposite
effect in the 1850s, when arguments and different interpretations of the Constitution resulted in
sectionalism, threat of secession, and tension between the North and the South. Abolitionists in the
North tried to preserve the Union while abolishing slavery, while southerners supported slavery in the
new territory and threatened to secede; the Compromise of 1850, especially the Fugitive Slave Law,
increased these beliefs. The Compromise of 1850 brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This man also believed in popular sovereignty, meaning the people should choose whether or not they
want to spread it. This account contradicts Document E and Emerson s views. The government was
unable to come to a compromise so that both sides would be satisfied, hence the sectionalism. The
Constitution s lack of mentioning slavery and the misinterpretations of it made it become a source of
sectional discord rather than an instrument of national unity. President James Buchanan was known to
favor the south, which is evident in his fourth annual message to Congress in 1860, as seen in
Document G. President Buchanan deals with the fact that the states were sovereign, therefore having
the right to manage slavery in their own way. He also states that the states, particularly the South, had
the right to resist the government if all peaceful measures to restore unity did not work. He also makes
the point that Congress is by no means of the Constitution given the power to use force against the
states to prevent secession. He suggests three amendments that elucidate the protection of slavery and
that could help avoid sectionalism within the Union. Poor political decisions contributed the fail of the
Union along with the Constitution. One that would fall under this category is the Kansas Nebraska

Night Mail Movie Analysis
This research paper is an analysis of the form and content of the Documentary Film Night Mail (1936)
directed by Harry Watt and Basil Wright, written by W.H. Auden, narrated by John Grierson, and
Music by Benjamin Britten. I will also go over the reaction by critics and others to the film when it
first appeared. An oversimplification of this movie is to say it is about normal people doing their job,
which would be picking up and delivering mail overnight. Beneath what would seem to most people
as a normal job from today s standards, is that the film dives into what it was like for the working
class at the General Post Office. This documentary shows us the pride that was once had in the
industry of postal service, which has become simplified with technology such as drone deliverer and
air/sea travel. During the 1930 s few people understood what it took for mail to be delivered on time,
countless people had to work many late hours into the night, so our letters could be received in a
timely fashion. Night Mail shows us the technology and steps by which it took many people working
together. We will never forget the old Britain that once was because of films like this. Let us start with
one of the main subjects of this documentary which would be the train involved and the route taken.

The, Taoist, And Aristotelian Views On The Soul s...
Does the soul exist? If so, what is the soul? Moreover, what is its function in daily life? For millennia,
schools of philosophy have investigated these questions and attempted to answer them by devising
complex philosophies, which were in some cases completely alien to our modern ideas. In this essay, I
will discuss the Egyptian, Taoist, and Aristotelian views on the soul s function and composition during
life. Then, I will compare these philosophies and discuss which aspects of each philosophy I find the
most plausible from a realist s point of view. Concerning the composition and function of the soul, I
argue that the Aristotelian and Taoist philosophies are equally plausible, but that the Egyptian
philosophy also had plausible aspects. Ultimately, however, it is difficult to determine which theory
the most plausible (from a realist s perspective) without tackling the bigger question does the soul
exist?
The ancient Egyptians were soul dualists, meaning that they believed that a person had two or more
souls (in this case nine).1 In Egypt, one of the main purposes of the nine souls was to help the
deceased reach the afterlife. 2 In fact, the Egyptians believed that some souls only existed after death,
but I will not discuss these in this paper. Instead, I will focus on the role of the soul during one s life.
The Egyptians identified six souls that were present during life: Khabit, Ba, Khat, Ib, and Ren.3 The
Khabit was considered a shadow that could detach itself

Communication in Euthanasia of an Animal Essay

their life, they would want it to be stress free and painless for there animals ending. The decision that
the clients have to make to get to this stage is usually hard for them so it is crucial that they are clear
on how a euthanasia takes place and the possible after effects. This is so that the client is not disturbed
if any unfortunate movements happen once the animal has passed away.

Different religions have different views on animals as a whole. When referring to religion in line with
euthanasia some religions wouldn t allow euthanasia of an animal because of the possible side effects
on reincarnation when another human passes away. This is in eastern
religions(Buddhism,Hinduism,Jainism), a value is given to the animals life so that if any cruelty or
euthanasia could potentially harm another human when it comes to incarnation. Most Christianity
nations perceive animals as a possession. So any kind of cruelty/ damage to there possession is not
tolerated. Animals are widely kept through out this religion and are seen to be a big part of many
Christian families. In religions such as Muslim religion some certain animals are refereed to as
unclean animals, this is animals such as the pig and dog. This is why some Muslim families keep dogs
but they will not be allowed in the house they will be outside as a working dog or used to guard the
premiss.
When dealing with a client is is important to take in to consideration their religious beliefs when it
comes to treating there animal, this may mean that some types of treatment that may need to be given

Comparison and Contrast
In the name Allah
Professor: Dr.Bahman Amani
Prepared by: Akbar Akbari
Place: IAU Maraghe
Date: May 6th 2010
❖ Definition: To compare is to show how items are alike. To contrast is to show how items are
different. Thus comparison and contrast involve pointing out the similarities or differences between
two (or more) items.
In deciding what to compare or contrast, you will want to make sure that the items share points in
common. Thus, the items compared are usually the same kind or class of thing, and in comparing and
contrasting them, you essentially establish two or more categories, showing the differences or
similarities between or among them. For example, you can compare two passenger cars a Ford and a
Cadillac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But your readers will probably want to know what the similarity or difference amounts to. You can
write this for a thesis. However, once you ve noted the difference, the readers will see that you ve
merely stated the obvious. Thus comparison and contrast for its own sake is generally pointless, but
both are extremely useful to develop support for a thesis. To support the thesis statement we should
outline central paragraphs.
❖ Central paragraph organization:
When you have decided whether to concentrate on comparison or contrast, you still must decide how
to do it. You should organize your comparison or contrast by whichever method suits your material
best. There are three different methods of organization of central paragraph: 1) Point by point or
alternating method 2) Block method 3) Mixed method
1) Point by point or alternating method: In this method you explain one characteristic of item A and
then immediately compare it with that of item B and then you go on to compare the two items point by
point. For example when you want to contrast two brands of automobile e. g. Nissan and Toyota to
decide which to buy, you will consider such subtopics (elements) as price, mile per gallon, length and
width, comfort, and maintenance expense. Thus the organizational type will be:

Technology And Modern Society
Sometimes in life, we have to learn how to take a joke. In a society where making fun of a serious
issue is often looked down upon, people tend to lose their sense of humor and forget about
maintaining a positive mindset. Although there are situations and events that should not be made fun
of, there are still minor flaws in society that should be pointed out. One of these flaws is the way
technology is being used by today s generation. Our minds are becoming consumed and preoccupied
by modern technology. The advancement of technology has had an enormous impact on our world.
Whether it has had a positive or negative impact is debatable, however, technology has indeed
changed the lives of millions of people around the world. One journalist who efficiently managed to
describe this issue is Peter Greene. Peter Greene is a contributor for the Huffington Post. His satire A
Classroom of Tomorrow takes place in a classroom where the teacher is focusing his/her lesson more
on the sponsored technology than actually teaching the children. This piece of satire was intriguing
due to the fact that it focused on a concept that is prevalent in today s world. As technology continues
to develop day by day, more questions about the use of technology arise. Technology is a pivotal
aspect of modern society which is why Greene felt the need to talk about issues surrounding
technology. This piece of satire also focusses on America s education system and the funding behind
it. In the satire, the school prioritized sponsorships. If a student did not have a sponsorship deal, they
were perceived as poor. As a result, they were not given the same quality of education as the other
students who did have sponsorship deals. This issue corresponds with a larger issue in America which
is the funding given to public schools. Schools are mostly funded by the local and state governments.
The issue with this is that the poorer regions are given less funding for their schools. This drastically
affects a student s learning experience since their quality of education and their access to resources are
dependent on their financial situation. The main targets of this satire are poverty, the government, and
the way people of this generation are

Comparing James and Jung s Perspectives on Religious...
1. Are the perspectives on religious experience presented in William James Varieties and in Jung
compatible? Briefly explain and compare them.
For William James, his perspective on religious experience was skeptical. He divided religion between
institutional religion and personal religion. For institutional religion he made reference to the religious
group or organization that plays a critical part in the culture of a society. Personal religion he defined
as when an individual has a mystical experience which can occur regardless of the culture. James was

Central to Jung s process of finding one s innate potential was the idea of the numinous. This is
characterized by the power or presence of a divinity. This was closely related to the idea of
synchronicity, which is when two or more events that seem to be unrelated occur together in a
meaningful way, and would be unlikely to occur by chance.
Jung s idea of experiences of synchronicity included the presence of archetypes. An archetype is an
ideal example or model person that others copy or base their actions upon. Jung had archetypes such
as the animus, the anima, and the shadow. The animus is expressed as a masculine inner personality in
females, while the anima is expressed as a feminine inner personality in males. The shadow archetype
consists of repressed shortcomings, weaknesses, and instincts. These archetypes are of the collective
unconscious, and not based on people in their daily lives.
While there are some similarities between James and Jung s views on religious experience, there is
also a great deal of opposing views. James was focused on the mystic experience of religion as a
personal one and was not in favor of organized religion. Jung on the other hand, studied many
organized religions and believed that an institutional setting was beneficial in finding one s innate
potential. Clearly, they both believed that there was a definite psychological factor in religion, but
James had a personal psychological

The Human Brain And Brain Disorders
the human brain can be burdened with various diseases and disorders. Since the brain acts as the
bodies control system, any malfunctions can result in serious problems to the entire system, including
memory, sensation, and even personality; factors such as illness, genetics, and trauma are a few of the
main things that cause Brain disorders. (Brain Disorders) Degenerative diseases, psychiatric diseases,
brain tumors, brain injuries, and addiction are some major illnesses that come into play. Degenerative
diseases are passed down through generations; an enormous forty five million people are affected by
these conditions, all across the world. Alzheimer s, ALS, huntington s, and parkinson s disease are all
categorized as degenerative diseases. Depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder are classifies as
non other than psychiatric disorders; luckily, these disorders can be treated with therapy. There is a
variety of auspicious options that can be chosen from accordingly for the patient. Additionally, many
individuals suffer from addiction; while everyone is at risk of addiction in some way shape or form, a
few are at higher risk than others. When a person is suffering from this dreadful condition, they do not
think rationally, and tend to act upon impulses; the craving is at such an intensity in some cases, that
the individual is willing to put everything at risk, and disregard whatever the consequences may be.
Biologically, the chemical makeup and structure of the brain itself undergoes alterations under the
circumstances that the individual repeats his or her use of drugs. By exciting the nerves within the
reward center of the brain, the recipient experiences a feeling of thrill themselves. (Brain Facts) When
a brain undergoes a serious blunt trauma, There is a high chance that brain tissue, neurons, or nerves
could have been severely ravaged, and this may lead to a variation of negative conditions; hematomas,
blood clots, contusions (bruising of the brain tissue), concussions, strokes, and cerebral edema
(swelling within the skull of a person) are all high on the list of disorders caused by injury to the brain.

1 And 2 Corinthians Freedom
The greatness of Jesus death on the cross and his resurrection is freedom from the law, freedom from
the consequences of sin and freedom to live a new life. In essence, one s salvation is no longer based
on their ability to fulfill the law, but instead placing faith in Christ and his fulfillment through the
cross. Yet, there is great tension in Christ s gift of freedom. Are there behaviors or actions that can
diminish Christ s work in one s life and are Christians free to do anything they want because they have
been forgiven? Certainly these questions have been answered through Paul s letters to the church in
Corinth. The books of 1 2 Corinthians are addressed to people who have come out of a pagan lifestyle
and accepted Christ as their Savior. Yet at the same time, they struggle to leave their old way of life
behind. What is more, they claim to have knowledge that allows them live however they want; and
yet, Paul confronts their claim as foolishness and complete missing of why Jesus died and rose again.
This point comes to a head within 1 Corinthians chapter eight; in which, Paul s purpose of this chapter

The Cardiovascular System Of Atherosclerosis
The cardiovascular system is composed of thousands of tubes, known as blood vessels that blood
travels in. Blood is constantly being pumped to and from the heart through arteries and veins,

body via the blood vessels. Because this system is very complex, many issues can occur which inhibit
the cardiovascular system from doing its job. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a category of diseases

Proteins form over the platelets called fibrin that make the blood clot and stick the platelets together.
When this process gets repeated it can cause a clot, or thrombus. As a result, this forces the heart to

of plaque can lead to heart disease and cause a heart attack as well as many other health
complications. There are many known risk factors that have been shown to correlate with heart
disease. High blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, lack of physical activity, and obesity, are all risk
factors that correlation to and increase risk of CVD. Fortunately, all of these risk factors can be

The antidote to this problem brings me to my next approach which is a teacher development program.
From 2004 to 2007 an observation among teachers nation wide was conducted to analyze instructional
practices; in other words, known as a teacher development program. One third of the programs had
well developed evaluations and produced positive effects on student achievement and instructional
practice. Though inadequate teachers shouldn t be educating at all, this program measures change in
teaching practices simultaneously benefiting the students and fulfilling the need for a teacher in the
classroom.
Another alternative to faulty teaching is collaborative teaching. In 2015, over 9,000 teachers in 336
schools were analyzed based on their instruction as a team. The higher the grade level the more
rigorous the material becomes making it harder for teachers to collaborate effectively. It was found
that teachers and schools that collaborate make better strides in math and science particularly in
elementary schools. According to the saying the more the merrier , a group of collaborative teachers is
more beneficial than one single teacher. . This program should be implemented in elementary school

Memory Retrieval Essay
Memory retrieval is likely to be good after repeated testing of that material. In fact, practising retrieval
has a larger effect on memory than revising the information (Hockley, 2009).
Another factor that influences the quality of retrieved information is the way one studied the material.
As such, material that was studied over a number of sessions and contexts has more chance of being
retrieved correctly after a period of time than the material that has been studied over one long session
(Bjork, 2001). The spacing between the sessions should not be too big or too little, as in case it is too
big the person might simply forget the material he already studied, and in case it is too little the
spacing effect would not work. Overall, spacing is important for long term retention, whilst cramming

Context cues play a major role in memory retrieval, and might vary from the room, smell, or sounds
(Eich, 1980). Academic implications of this finding might be studying in a silence, as exams are
usually conducted in a silence. One of the important context cues is if a person consumed some
substances while studying and while taking an exam. According to Carter and Cassady (1998) that is
true for caffeine, as well as other substances such as nicotine for example, if one was smoking while
studying, injection of nicotine in the system might later trigger the memory. It is also true for cocaine
and amphetamines. Additionally, Adan and Serra Grabulosa (2010) found that a combination of
caffeine and glucose helps memory consolidation; therefore, studying that is combined with
consuming of those substances would lead to a better information recall. Obviously, one has to think
of health consequences and avoid drugs, as well as limit his caffeine, nicotine and glucose

For instance, in America cattle are typically raised for providing milk and beef and in Egypt they had
their own cows called Egyptian cattle, which they worshipped. Still, Egyptians used them for food,
milk, leather, and sacrifice. Egyptian cattle became so important that many Egyptian gods were
considered to have the form of cattle, these gods being Hathor, Ptah, Menthu, and Atum Ra. The cow
is also sacred in India. The cow god is called The Holy Cow. Millions of Hindus revere and worship

  • 2. Rhetorical Criticism Of Reagan s Challenger Speech A Rhetorical Criticism of Reagan s Challenger Address Lu Jia This essay will attempt to analyze Ronald Reagan s Challenger address in terms of the rhetorical situation theorized by Dr. Blitzer and elaborated by Dr. Zarefsky in his book Public Speaking. The effectiveness of the Challenger address will be evaluated by carefully identifying and examining each of the four components of the rhetorical situation within the context of this speech. Background On the morning of January 28th, 1986, Americans watched in shock and horror as the space shuttle Challenger exploded only 74 seconds after its launch, killing all seven crew members on board including a high school teacher Christa McAuliffe. Reagan briefly changed his tone to that of a grandfather and tried to ease his children s fear by explaining to them sometimes painful things like this happen . He also encouraged them to be brave and carry on with Challenger s legacy by saying the Challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and we ll continue to follow them . Reagan then reassured that the space program would continue to operate and what happened today does nothing to diminish it . This message sought to protect the ongoing space programs and was dedicated to the last sub audience of his speech: the NASA people. He acknowledged their hard work and expressed sympathy for their loss of friends and coworkers. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Teenage drinking is a very serious problem that is growing by the day in our country. I want to know what kids who drink are getting themselves in to when they decide to start in high school or junior high. What types of health and psychological problems will they be facing? What are the chances that they will become addicted to alcohol, or to some other drug, for life? My father is an alcoholic and has been so for most, if not all, of his life. They all helped me answer my important questions and agreed on the information they gave. I started out my search at the local library, looked through some books about alcohol, and found several ranging from its uses and abuses to teenage drinking. I did not bother looking in the encyclopedia because I figured that the people who wrote these books had already done it for me. The first book I looked through was by Alan R. Lang (February 29, 2000); I skimmed through the table of contents of the book and saw that it had a section devoted to the short term as well as the long term effects of alcohol. So, in order to get a better understanding of this issue I turned to the specified page and found that the effect of alcohol is directly related to ones BAC, or blood alcohol concentration (Lang 39). This is what makes different kinds of people engage in a wide array of behaviors, such as when two people drink the same amount of alcohol but the person who has more body mass does not feel the effects of the alcohol. The other person, who has less body mass will get drunk faster and is said to have less of a tolerance for alcohol . In Volger s Teenagers and Alcohol, I found an excellent table outlining the ... There are kits available at stores and online of course but many times I do not have the time to learn a new hobby. Eventually I will find the time to make these ornaments. I like the way they are displayed on their own arm hooks, they look so dainty and festive and the colors can be changed for the holidays and not necessary ornaments for Christmas. The person who did these ornaments is creative and of course has the time to do something they love and not consider it work. By the way the room is situated this person is very organized as well. • 6. A Manifesto For Cyborgs By Donna Haraway In A Manifesto for Cyborgs: Science, Technology, and Socialist Feminism in the 1980s, Donna Haraway gives an introduction to cyberfeminism and argues that there should be a new way to view the world and the issues that are currently faced The ironic political myth faithful to feminism, socialism, and materialism would ultimately be the cyborg (2190). The cyborg has no origin, therefore, it can understand the world without bias. Haraway discusses three important boundaries that support her main ideas throughout her essay. The boundary between human and animal is Haraway s way of saying that humans and animals are the same and should not be put into separate categories. The cyborg can think beyond the thought of humans and animals separately and view them as one species. The boundary between animal human and machine is used to describe the way Haraway views machines. Machines were lifeless. Nevertheless, machines have advanced beyond belief and there is no longer a distinction between humans and machines. Lastly, Haraway discusses the boundary between the physical and the non physical with an example of televisions. Televisions use light. Nonetheless, no one can actually touch light so therefore the line between the physical and non physical is distorted. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. The Political System And The United Kingdom Essay The political systems in the United States of America, and the United Kingdom are fairly different due to several policies. The most predominant difference that could be deducted from their policies is the difference in selecting their government. The United States base their elections off of what is known as the Electoral College. The Electoral College is a process that was created by the founding fathers, written in the Constitution. Not only is it a compromise made between the election of the President by a vote in Congress, but also the election of the President due to popular vote of eligible citizens. In total, there are 538 electors that make up the Electoral College. However, for the President to be elected there is a required majority of 270 electoral votes that need to be won. If you obtain the most votes within a state, then you will win the seats of that state that help the potential President to get 270 electoral votes. The way in which the number of seats in each state is decided is through Congressional delegation; there is one for each member of the House of Representatives, and two others for the Senators. The Electoral College is particularly interesting due to the reason that even if you win the popular vote, you may not necessarily be elected as President. The most recent example of this is the 2016 presidential election between democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, and republican Donald Trump. Clinton did in fact receive more votes than Trump; however, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kingdoms in this era were subject to imperial claims (other than by the emperor), making the role of emperor not absolute and in constant struggle to maintain control over, through negotiations or confrontations.5 In this book, Strootman elaborates on how there are two essential diagrams for exposing political assertiveness during the Hellenistic period shedding light on the function of imperialism, the first describes the court as a political structure used to assert power but this idea is rivaled with the importance of the theater and the important role it played in to support the role of the king and his court against the courts of others. The other is describing capital and cities as tools of a power play made by those of power (the king and his courtiers).6 These arguments as Strootman exposes to the reader that based off of the ideas of Norbert Elias, Jurgen von Kruedener and Charles Tilly, we are able to better understand the function of court during this era.7 Kruedener as mentioned by Strootman explains how the role of favor with the king was vital to the attainment of power within the kingdom, disbursement of land holdings, duties of offices and this was all done through exposure before the king through the instrument of court. Whenever discipline is implemented, the child is learning the proper behavior and is acquiring new knowledge. With the teacher s clear explanation which will give the child understanding, the child should gain wisdom. Wisdom comes through experience. Wisdom has been defined as having the knowledge of what is proper and appropriate and having the ability to apply that knowledge with just judgment ccording to knowledge, experience, and understanding (Merriam Webster s online dictionary, n.d). In order for our children to grow in knowledge and understanding, they must learn and show discipline. As teachers, we are challenged to guide our students in a way that encourages independence. This means that what we are teaching them, they will learn to do for themselves. Discipline helps to instill the proper behavior. Practicing the proper behavior produces routine. Routine then in turn displays discipline. Discipline is taught. Where there is discipline, there comes knowledge and wisdom, which exemplifies the purpose of teaching and learning. When it comes to raising a child, which we as teachers also take on, we may all have different methods, but each method should evolve from the guide that was given in the Good Book, The Holy Bible. Thus, I picked the story the chrysanthemums which was composed by John Steinbeck。 The story is recited from a third person; we are confident that we are sharing with a narrator, who is far away from the character s feelings and emotions. Likewise, the story focuses on Elisa. It allows us omniscient access into Elisa s thoughts, but for the most part, it does not draw her thoughts. This point of view is necessary to the story because it is clearly showing us that men around the twenties disregard a lot of beautiful and intelligent women like Elisa. When Elisa is watching her husband with two other men studied the machine, the narrator describes the Elisa s outfit for us, Her figure was blocked and heavy in her gardening costume, a man s black hat pulled low down over her eyes, clodhopper shoes, a figured print dress almost completely covered by a big corduroy apron. In general, Elisa does not dress like a housewife , as a woman who has a business husband, she is supposed to put on a pretty dress, not being unobtrusive of her beauty, rising child at home... However, Elisa would rather hold out like men than wearing fancy dresses as a wealthy lady. Therefore, she is not exactly a girly girl. Another of trail of tragic heroes would be created when the playwright Arthur Miller came in with his New Age tragic heroes, and even since they didn t fall into all the base rules, Miller defended their place. Although Arthur Miller claims his characters are tragic heroes, Joe Keller from All My Sons is not a tragic hero because he is not pre eminently great, he invokes no sense of pity in the audience, and he dies at the end of the story. Even though it does not inherently state in the rules of an Aristotelian Tragedy that the hero must not die, Joe Keller s death breaks a few other rules. One being that the punishment is not fully deserved. If a man was being held in court for the deaths of 22 individuals and was found guilty, there is no doubt his penalty would be death. The other rule being broken is that the fall is not pure loss, and there must be a gain in self awareness. A dead man learns nothing. He dies then the story ends with his wife and son mourning his over his dead body. The real seller on why Joe keller is not a tragic hero doesn t lie there though, there is one more giant reason why Joe Keller does not fit the bill of a tragic hero. Not only does Arthur Miller break two big rules of the Aristotelian Tragedy, but he also breaks his own main rule for a tragedy. Tragedy is the consequence of a man s total compulsion to evaluate himself justly (Miller). Joe Keller has a moment of self realization before he takes his own life. This account contradicts Document E and Emerson s views. The government was unable to come to a compromise so that both sides would be satisfied, hence the sectionalism. The Constitution s lack of mentioning slavery and the misinterpretations of it made it become a source of sectional discord rather than an instrument of national unity. President James Buchanan was known to favor the south, which is evident in his fourth annual message to Congress in 1860, as seen in Document G. President Buchanan deals with the fact that the states were sovereign, therefore having the right to manage slavery in their own way. Auden, narrated by John Grierson, and Music by Benjamin Britten. I will also go over the reaction by critics and others to the film when it first appeared. An oversimplification of this movie is to say it is about normal people doing their job, which would be picking up and delivering mail overnight. Beneath what would seem to most people as a normal job from today s standards, is that the film dives into what it was like for the working class at the General Post Office. This documentary shows us the pride that was once had in the industry of postal service, which has become simplified with technology such as drone deliverer and air/sea travel. During the 1930 s few people understood what it took for mail to be delivered on time, countless people had to work many late hours into the night, so our letters could be received in a timely fashion. Night Mail shows us the technology and steps by which it took many people working together. We will never forget the old Britain that once was because of films like this. Let us start with one of the main subjects of this documentary which would be the train involved and the route taken. London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) mail train from London to Scotland using the Royal Scot Class 6115 a steam locomotive named Scots Guardsman. Surprisingly there is a lot of information ... • 25. The, Taoist, And Aristotelian Views On The Soul s... Does the soul exist? If so, what is the soul? Moreover, what is its function in daily life? For millennia, schools of philosophy have investigated these questions and attempted to answer them by devising complex philosophies, which were in some cases completely alien to our modern ideas. In this essay, I will discuss the Egyptian, Taoist, and Aristotelian views on the soul s function and composition during life. Then, I will compare these philosophies and discuss which aspects of each philosophy I find the most plausible from a realist s point of view. Concerning the composition and function of the soul, I argue that the Aristotelian and Taoist philosophies are equally plausible, but that the Egyptian philosophy also had plausible aspects. Ultimately, however, it is difficult to determine which theory the most plausible (from a realist s perspective) without tackling the bigger question does the soul exist? The ancient Egyptians were soul dualists, meaning that they believed that a person had two or more souls (in this case nine).1 In Egypt, one of the main purposes of the nine souls was to help the deceased reach the afterlife. 2 In fact, the Egyptians believed that some souls only existed after death, but I will not discuss these in this paper. Instead, I will focus on the role of the soul during one s life. The Egyptians identified six souls that were present during life: Khabit, Ba, Khat, Ib, and Ren.3 The Khabit was considered a shadow that could detach itself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To contrast is to show how items are different. Thus comparison and contrast involve pointing out the similarities or differences between two (or more) items. In deciding what to compare or contrast, you will want to make sure that the items share points in common. Thus, the items compared are usually the same kind or class of thing, and in comparing and contrasting them, you essentially establish two or more categories, showing the differences or similarities between or among them. For example, you can compare two passenger cars a Ford and a Cadillac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But your readers will probably want to know what the similarity or difference amounts to. You can write this for a thesis. However, once you ve noted the difference, the readers will see that you ve merely stated the obvious. Thus comparison and contrast for its own sake is generally pointless, but both are extremely useful to develop support for a thesis. To support the thesis statement we should outline central paragraphs. ❖ Central paragraph organization: When you have decided whether to concentrate on comparison or contrast, you still must decide how to do it. You should organize your comparison or contrast by whichever method suits your material best. There are three different methods of organization of central paragraph: 1) Point by point or alternating method 2) Block method 3) Mixed method 1) Point by point or alternating method: In this method you explain one characteristic of item A and then immediately compare it with that of item B and then you go on to compare the two items point by point. In a society where making fun of a serious issue is often looked down upon, people tend to lose their sense of humor and forget about maintaining a positive mindset. Although there are situations and events that should not be made fun of, there are still minor flaws in society that should be pointed out. One of these flaws is the way technology is being used by today s generation. Our minds are becoming consumed and preoccupied by modern technology. The advancement of technology has had an enormous impact on our world. Whether it has had a positive or negative impact is debatable, however, technology has indeed changed the lives of millions of people around the world. One journalist who efficiently managed to describe this issue is Peter Greene. Peter Greene is a contributor for the Huffington Post. His satire A Classroom of Tomorrow takes place in a classroom where the teacher is focusing his/her lesson more on the sponsored technology than actually teaching the children. This piece of satire was intriguing due to the fact that it focused on a concept that is prevalent in today s world. As technology continues to develop day by day, more questions about the use of technology arise. Technology is a pivotal aspect of modern society which is why Greene felt the need to talk about issues surrounding technology. This piece of satire also focusses on America s education system and the funding behind it. In the satire, the school prioritized sponsorships. If a student did not have a sponsorship deal, they were perceived as poor. As a result, they were not given the same quality of education as the other students who did have sponsorship deals. This issue corresponds with a larger issue in America which is the funding given to public schools. Schools are mostly funded by the local and state governments. The issue with this is that the poorer regions are given less funding for their schools. This drastically affects a student s learning experience since their quality of education and their access to resources are dependent on their financial situation. The main targets of this satire are poverty, the government, and the way people of this generation are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Briefly explain and compare them. For William James, his perspective on religious experience was skeptical. He divided religion between institutional religion and personal religion. For institutional religion he made reference to the religious group or organization that plays a critical part in the culture of a society. Personal religion he defined as when an individual has a mystical experience which can occur regardless of the culture. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Central to Jung s process of finding one s innate potential was the idea of the numinous. This is characterized by the power or presence of a divinity. This was closely related to the idea of synchronicity, which is when two or more events that seem to be unrelated occur together in a meaningful way, and would be unlikely to occur by chance. Jung s idea of experiences of synchronicity included the presence of archetypes. An archetype is an ideal example or model person that others copy or base their actions upon. Jung had archetypes such as the animus, the anima, and the shadow. The animus is expressed as a masculine inner personality in females, while the anima is expressed as a feminine inner personality in males. The shadow archetype consists of repressed shortcomings, weaknesses, and instincts. These archetypes are of the collective unconscious, and not based on people in their daily lives. While there are some similarities between James and Jung s views on religious experience, there is also a great deal of opposing views. James was focused on the mystic experience of religion as a personal one and was not in favor of organized religion. Jung on the other hand, studied many organized religions and believed that an institutional setting was beneficial in finding one s innate potential. In fact, practising retrieval has a larger effect on memory than revising the information (Hockley, 2009). Another factor that influences the quality of retrieved information is the way one studied the material. As such, material that was studied over a number of sessions and contexts has more chance of being retrieved correctly after a period of time than the material that has been studied over one long session (Bjork, 2001). The spacing between the sessions should not be too big or too little, as in case it is too big the person might simply forget the material he already studied, and in case it is too little the spacing effect would not work.
