- 1. Belief vs proof A project by: Giouris Spiros Iliopoulos Giannis Kaliontzoglou Alexandros Megalios Argyris
- 2. What is belief? ● Belief is when someone thinks something is reality, true, without having any absolute verified foundation for their certainty of the truth or realness of their idea. ● Also, belief is something believed or accepted as true, especially a particular tenet or body of tenets accepted by a group of people.
- 4. Why is belief important? • Belief is the basis of our identity, as our character and our behavior are based primarily on our beliefs. • In other words, everything we do, from the smallest to our biggest actions, can be traced back to beliefs we hold about the world and about life in general.
- 5. What is proof? ● Proof is actual evidence that establishes that something is true or real. ● In science, proof is the process at which we either support or counter a scientific theory or hypothesis.
- 6. Why is proof important? Proof is very important not only in Maths and sciences but also in our everyday lives. As humans, we need to try and prove our beliefs in order to explain the world.
- 7. How do belief and proof relate? How can we prove what we believe in? ● Not all beliefs can be proven. For example, we can’t prove the existence of god. ● On the other hand, in order to prove some of our beliefs, we should conduct research and reach to a conclusion whether a statement is true or not. For example, an experiment is a way to prove how correct a scientific assumption is.
- 9. Objectivity ● Objectivity is when someone judges things based on data and knowledge. ● Objectivity is also the ability to see things without being influenced by personal opinions, emotions and preferences.
- 10. Some examples of objectivity… 1. A judge should always make decisions with objectivity and not judge by his/her attitude towards someone/something. 2. In History objectivity plays a major role, as the historian should not be influenced by his emotions and beliefs when writing history, but he should write down things as they really are.
- 11. Subjectivity ● Subjectivity is when you see things from your own perspective, based on feelings, opinions and personal ideas. We can understand that objectivity relates with proof, whereas subjectivity relates with our beliefs.
