2. Envisioned technology is the technology we dream that we’ll have
in the future. I am sure that the majority of the human population
wants more innovations in technology. That’s why the scientists
are trying to make some inventions that can make our lives easier.
Despite the fact that many companies have made plans and are
close to transforming what we use today into something that will
replace it and will help them earn more money and reputation,
there is still a lot of work to be done. However, some plans are
expected to come to life in the next few years…
3. A quantum computer is a computer that uses some properties of
quantum mechanics to carry out all the functions of a
contemporary computer. The thing on which quantum computing
science depends is that “the quantum mechanical properties of
materials can be used for the representation and the construction
of data”(Wikipedia-Quantum computers). Although, this kind of
technology is not yet developed enough by physicists to be used
as the system on which a computer can be based on.
4. Microbical oil is a biological liquid type of oil that is produced by
microbes that can convert something into oil, like some species of
yeast for example. Producing biological oil will be helpful for our
society and cheaper. So we are going to be able to meet our needs
with less cost and less people are needed to work so that people
can consume it. Because of these benefits it has caught the
attention of many wealthy countries.
5. From the ancient years people have been dreaming to be able to
travel through time. The time machine has been and is used in
many science-fiction books both as a tool and a target. I am sure
that everyone of us wants to travel to Ancient Greece or to the age
of Dinosaurs, the creation of Earth, future life and generally in
each period of history-either in the past or in the future. One of the
most important writers, the french Jules Verne, first wrote in his
books about a time machine in the early 1800s. After the
revolution of technology, many things of what Verne had foreseen
happened. Who can say that this dream will never come true?
6. Some years ago we turned to renewable sources of energy and
discovered that many of them can replace oil, fossil fuels and
natural gas. For example, the sun, the water, the air and many
other things we haven’t even thought can be essential for our
lives. In the last years the scientists have been examining the fact
that steam may be able to become one of these sources. As all of us
know, steam is boiled water which due to high temperature
(>100Celsius degrees) has become gas. Water is a very useful
renewable source that can produce storms. Can steam do the same
thing?
7. Operational technology is the elite of the devices we use.
Whatever belongs to Operational technology cannot be afforded
in an easy way and only the richest people enjoy their services and
treatments. Many of the devices, appliances and technological
achievements that belong to this category are still undergoing an
experimental process.
8. Lab grown meat is the meat we can take from cell cultures instead
of killing animals to take a part of their bodies and then bake it
and eat it. This technology exists from August 2013. It is
something new that is becoming more and more popular, it is far
cheaper than the traditional way and more profitable because new
workplaces will open. Imagine how it would be if you had a plant
between your apples and peaches in your garden that could give
out meat.
9. Space shuttle was a spaceship that could be partially reused. It
was made for a program NASA was running, which was called
Space Shuttle program. The Space Shuttle existed between the
years 1981 and 2011. It has carried out a lot of difficult missions in
space with great success. Space Shuttle was designed to function
for 15 years. The US government wanted to use it to build a US
space station in low earth orbit. But the station transformed into
an international one and because of the long delays the Space
Shuttle’s life was extended until July 2011, when its last mission
was executed. Even though it has been discovered long before
2000 it is regarded as one of the biggest achievements of
technology.
10. Stone axe is a very old tool which is used by the carpenters in the
process of taking wood out of trees. However, technology wasn’t
able to overcome this tool because we have no electronic axes and
there are no axes from material harder than stone. It is one of the
oldest tools in this category but it is incredibly productive and
efficient. So, we don’t need anything more sophisticated than that
because we can do our job with it.
11. Everyone knows that many countries have built space stations
around the Earth. So why not convert them into commercial ones.
This kind of technology has never been used before but we have
the appropriate foundation to try it in the next two years. We got
the station, the experts are almost done with the editting of this
new type of spaceship and everyone wants to have a mall in
space. So what are we waiting for? Let’s go shopping!
12. Segway is an electric eco-friendly vehicle which uses electricity as
a source of energy. Invented by Dean Kamen it was publicly
released for first time in 2002. It looks like our skates but it is …a
little bigger. It helps us save energy and does other things on the
road while walking. It is not widely known but its fame has
started raising. Segway is one of the most useful devices that
people have made because it is one of the only things in this
category that everyone can afford to use.
13. The first robots with this function were made in Japan a decade
ago. Every child wants Santa to give him a robot to do his
homework. Well the robots can not do that yet but there are some
other stuff they can do like the basic household chores or being a
storage space for example. Very few people are able to afford
them nowadays and the scientists try to make improvements on
this type of robots. I think that after a decade no one will be able to
claim that a dog is the man’s best friend.
14. A zeppelin is another name for an air ship. This word definitely
sounds better than airship and that’s why it is used in many
cartoons and films nowadays. A zeppelin has the name of its
inventor and it was invented in 1900. It must be clarified that a
zeppelin is the only means of transportation that is not used in
war. From 1900 zeppelin technology has developed and evolved
the machine a lot compared to the original machine. Despite the
fact that it doesn’t serve many needs it is one of the most popular
means of transportation these days.
15. Applied technology is the technology that is easily affordable and
anyone can use it in his everyday life. Computers and other home
and work devices belong to this category. This kind of technology
is the basis for operational and envisioned technology to be
developed.
16. An energy saving lamp is an economical lamp that tends to
replace the incandescent lamp. This lamp uses electricity to
stimulate Hg steam. It is easily affordable and most people use
them nowadays. However, mercury is a very dangerous metal,
because it contains toxins that can easily kill you by not allowing
you to breathe. That’s why if it is broken we have to be very
careful to pick up the broken glasses.
17. The fax (fascimile) is a technology to tranport whatever you want
by using a telephone network. Nowdays, the fax machines and
some other functions like scanners have been incorporated in one
device which is called the printer. Fax is mostly useful for the
companies to communicate with each other or their clients.
Despite the fact that the fax has the advantage that the laws in all
countries support it, it will be overcome in the next decade by
something similar to it which will be able to use the Internet
network.
18. Chemotherapy is the way that cancer and other dangerous
illnesses can be cured today. It belongs only to the medical section
and it has developed a lot in the last thirty years. It has treated a
lot of illnesses of the body. Although, as everything chemical, it
could be hiding many dangers. But, as long as new illnesses make
their appearance we have to develop new types of therapy to deal
with them properly.
19. When the first human was made he had to feed himself. What did
he do? He hunted other animals. People hunted back then. People
hunt in our days. The only difference is the tools. The first human
used stones. We use guns and axes. No matter how much society
changes, we are going to feed ourselves by following the example
of the first people.
20. Iris scan in another name for Iris recognition. Based on
“mathematical pattern-recognition techniques and the method of
biometric” the scientists can identify to whom an eye belongs.
That happens because eye patterns differ from human to human.
So, this function has been enclosed in an electronic device. A
major advantage of this is that recognizing irises is far more easier
than recognizing fingerprints because the iris is controlled by only
two muscles. That makes its shape more predictable than that of
the hand for instance.
21. An air-conditioner is something that everyone must have in their
house. With an air-conditioner someone can control the
temperature of the room for as long as they want. It is more
economical than central heating in a block of flats, it is very easy to
use and it can make the air of a room colder in the hot summers. I
mean that anyone who goes shopping in the morning at summer
is relieved when he gets in a shop and the cold air which is
produced by the air-conditioner strikes him directly. It also
functions by converting electricity into wind energy.
22. The horses are the oldest mean of transportation. Horses and
donkeys were used by people when cars did not exist. But they
were very slow, related to what we have today and anyone could
be robbed easily. Later horses were used to transport people
through carriages. Carriages were owned only by rich people who
also had servants to take care of them. Only the traditional
farmers, explorers and societies get horses to carry them from one
place to another.
23. The Global Positioning System is a system invented in the USA
which helps us to locate ourselves and other people and places. It
is mostly used by people who drive and want to go to a place they
do not know. The driver tells the device where he wants to go and
it sends the message to the closest satellites. Then it receives
directions which are given to the driver through screen and
sound.
24. An email is an electronical post. Email has replaced handwritten
letters. It is one of the functions that the Internet offers and helps
people to communicate. An email is the message that is sent via
the Internet from one user to another. It is the best of modern
types of communication and it’s the most widely known means of
communication. Almost any person who is older that 10 years has
a mail. It is fast, safe and economical. An email is the model on
which FB, Twitter and other apps are built on.
25. Accepted technology is the technology which is a big part of our
daily lives. The things which belong to the category are easily
affordable and have been ranked according to the needs of a 2017
person.
26. Glasses are constructed by two circle-shaped pieces of glass and
some metal or wooden parts that support them. They help people
overcome the problems they might have with their vision. They
use the light as a source of energy. We use them when we have
refraction problems with our eyes because they refract light in a
normal way.
27. Nuclear Energy is the more scientific and dangerous form of
energy that has been discovered until today. It is mostly used in
weapons and other things that have to do with war and they are
capable of destroying all the world’s population. We have seen its
effects in the atomic bombs which were thrown over Hiroshima
and Nagasaki during WW2. Nuclear energy is the energy that is
caused when in neutron bombs the nucleus of an atom explodes.
28. The smartphone is the modern type of phone. A smart phone has
a camera incorporated, a touch-screen, Internet Network etc. It
looks like a small portable computer. Other than communication,
you can take pictures, use GPS, search for information, listen to
the radio, make a schedule and many other useful processes
quickly.
29. A remote control is a device that directs something else by
adjusting the electromagnetic waves. Remote control is a
revolution in technology because people can use their devices
from afar. It is economical and it saves so much time because
instead of going to the device and regulating it, you can press a
button. The most common use of the remote control is with regard
to the TV.
30. Television is an appliance that every house has. It converts
electricity power into image and sound. There are big and small
TVs. It is the only appliance via which we can see something in
real time via broadcasting. It is used for information, education,
gaming, entertainment and socialization. The TV is ready to jump
to the top if it continues its rapidly developing use.
31. Postal service is the official name for the post office. It is the oldest
way to give and receive letters and I am surprised that it still
exists. We have emails. So why to tire and pay people to transport
messages. The answer is why the companies want to advertise
themselves through this process and we haven’t changed all of
our traditions yet.
32. The candles are the oldest way to light. It was discovered by the
first humans long ago. With them, humans could see easier in the
dark. It was the first invention which ever made it possible. It is a
product of a chemical reaction that provides the flame by setting the
wick on fire. As a result, it slowly wastes away while it lights,
because the temperatue of the flame is higher than 41 Celsium
degrees.
33. Light bulb is another name for the incandescent lamp. The light
bulbs, which were invented by T. Eddison, operate by burning a
wire of tungston at 2000 Celsius degrees, which gets burnt at 2700
Celsius degrees. A part of the electricity is converted into heat and
another part into light energy, which helps us see. Light bulbs
have replaced the candles and they, in their turn, were replaced by
energy saving lamps. Although they are still used today.
34. The effective therapy of illnesses that have to do with the soul is
something people have tried to find out since the Ancient Greeks.
Nowadays, it has developed a lot with Freud and other scientists’
help who have devoted their life to this specific section of
illnesses. But, we have to go through many difficulties and
problems to find a satisfying answer.
35. Vital technology is the technology that is hard to live without. This
is the last type of technology which changes and develops over the
years. Its development depends on the circumstances and the
people’s needs.
36. Anyone who has a home has a computer. A computer is the only
device which includes the functions of many other devices and it’s
portable. We have to know that the computer was not even accepted
half a century ago, but it has developed rapidly and computer
companies are still making a lot of money. I think, that a computer
must be used more to eliminate other devices apart from TV, despite
the fact that they strain our eyes.
37. Antibiotics is the first way the human race found to deal
effectively with illnesses. The first antibiotic was invented by A.
Fleming and it is called “penicillin” . Today, every house has a
drawer, a wardrobe where people keep the necessary antibiotics.
Antibiotics were the first step for medicine to develop.
38. Pens and pencils are the main instrument for writing. The material
that writes is graphite and ink. They replaced the paper pen and
they are cheap, economic, small and extremely useful. They have
also played a role in improving conservation and transportation. It
must be underlined that in the section of writing nothing has been
able to overcome pen and pencil.
39. There are three kinds of technology that belong both in accepted
and vital technology.
1. Internet
2. Telephone
3. Electricity
40. The telephone, which was invented by Bell in the biomechanical
revolution, is a necessary device or appliance which helps people
to communicate. Instead of communicating face-to-face you can
call the person you want to talk to. It saves more time than every
means of communication because it transports oral language. In
fact, it translates sound through electricity signals.
41. The internet is the most developed and the biggest network on
Earth. You can do whatever you want on the Internet and connect
with everyone you desire. Even though we’ve lost a degree of
privacy, we have got something better in return. No matter how
many dangers are hidden on the Internet it is so widely used
because it gives many possibilities that have to do with our plans,
to help other people and to get informed and see what other
people think about very important issues.
42. Electricity is the energy behind everything running in the world. It
helps in discovering something, inventing something or recording
something. Electricity is the key to see how the world develops
and how to predict the future. It is the only source that gives
energy quickly. Overall, without electricity nothing can work and
the human kind would possibly be extinct.
43. Invisible technology is the technology we simply cannot see and
some of us, including me, haven’t understood that it constitutes a
form of technology. As invisible, we can characterize the
discoveries that can’t be imitated.
44. No matter how weird it sounds, religion is a form of technology.
There was one, there are many. The same applies to language.
Religion and language can be used for good or bad aims. They can
cure and they can hurt. They are like a simple computer. You
communicate via a computer, you communicate via them. You
blackmail someone through a computer, you can do the same
through them. The only difference is that language is the basis of a
computer and a computer can help religion and some other things
to spread.
45. The Printing Press was invented by J. Guttenberg in 1532. It is
regarded as one of the most important inventions of human kind.
It is some steps ahead of writing and it is the basis for today’s
printers, photos and computers. In Guttenberg’s age that was the
biggest innovation in technology that helped everything else to
start developing because it was easier for something to be kept
untouched for centuries.
46. Writing is the first way a human was able to keep what he found
out, learnt, discovered, invented. People have written on paper,
walls, marble, scrolls, plate and wood. It is necessary and it is a
way to prove the truth in some matters. Without writing nothing
would be able to move forward, because we wouldn’t have
known what our progenitors had discovered to develop or evolve
it.
47. The wheel was the most important and the most ancient invention
of human kind. It helped in communication and electricity
because it is way to increase power dynamics. Wheel has also
helped us in transportation and in developing science. We don’t
know who invented the wheel but we know it is an important
landmark in human history.
48. Agriculture is the first way people found to cultivate the land.
They grew many species of plants and legumes. It started with
hand-made work and now we have machines to help us.
Agriculture was the first section to be used as the motor of
economy. I believe that is why it has the word “culture” in it.
Culture means civilization. So, I think that they meant that
agriculture was a feature of civilization.
49. Money is what people have, had or try to earn. Money is the most
ancient institution because whatever people say money means
wealth and people love wealth. Either in the form of a piece of
paper or trading tomatoes or something else it is money. Money is
what the economy is built on. There are various types of money,
pieces of paper, gold etc. Overall, no matter how money changes
form it still remains money no matter how we try to change that
truth.
50. Naturalized technology is the technology that we can have
directly with the help of nature. Fire and clocks belong to this
category. Under this category we can find the first tools humans
used.
51. The clock is an instrument that counts time. Today we have clocks
that hang on walls, our electronic devices and the watches we
wear to count time. But from the beginning of humanity people
needed to know what time it was. The first people used the sky to
predict time. Then candles were used for this purpose and we
replaced them with todays clocks.
52. Fire is considered to be the biggest discovery humans have made.
Today it is used for heat, light and smelting. In the first years it
was used for all these purposes and as a weapon. Fire has also
been used in Religion. Fire started as something good and useful,
but, according to the way we have used it, it has ended up
meaning pain and punishment. Fire is considered to be the
beginning of human scientific and exploring history.
53. Overall, in the pyramid of technology different stages of the
history of humanity are described. Through the innovation of
technology anyone can easily observe how much progress we
have made up to now. After all the information I have found I
have come to the conclusion that technology evolves depending
on the needs of people and each period is the basis for a step
forward in all the sections of life.
54.
55. Fossil fuels come from anaerobic decomposition ( αναερόβια
αποσύνθεση) of dead buried microorganisms.
It takes more than a hundred years to be created.
We can find them deep into the planet’s core.
They can be light like natural gas or heavy like oil.
They are not renewable sources of energy and they burden the
atmosphere with many harmful substances.
On the other hand, they are very effective and this is why they are
used.
56. Natural Gas (CH4) : A light gas that is often found a little easier
than oil. But where we find natural gas, there is oil below it. It has
the same functions as oil, but it does not pollute so much.
Oil( Mix of HC) : The “black gold” is the most widely used fuel all
over the world nowadays. We can find it as liquid and solid and it
is used in most factories as their main fuel. Although, it is used so
much it remains, since its discovery, very expensive.
Coal( C ) : Coal was used for the first time during the
biomechanical revolution in trains, factories and generally
whenever a fuel was required. Today, it has been replaced by oil
and natural gas, but we still use it to produce electricity, which is
and was its main function.
57. If someone wants to discuss the relationship of fossil fuels
with the pyramid of technology he has to know that he can
talk about stages 1 to 5. These are the stages of today’s
evolution. With a first look we observe that electricity and oil
are the main sources of energy. Oil is a fossil fuel and the 50%
of electricity is produced by fossil carbons. So, we can see that
they are affecting the evolution of technology to a great
degree. On the other side, we definitely use them less than
when the first oilfield was found. But, most importantly that
fossil fuels can offer wealth and a good life to the owner of an
oil-selling companiy.
58. The environment is the place where we live. In Ancient Greece the
importance of the environment had been recognized and it was
respected by the people who lived there. Nowadays, every piece
of grass is an opportunity for someone to burn it illegally, build a
house and make profit or he can pollute it by using and selling
massive quantities of fossil fuels. Everyone must realize that fossil
fuels can be useful but they threaten our lives now, so maybe they
should not be used for a while. That happens because in return of
their efficiency and quality we receive toxins that pollute the sky
and allow the sun to burn us.
59. The needs of every period display the people’s living conditions,
the evolution of technology and everything else. In the
technological field, we can track them, mostly, in the category
which is named “VITAL”. Some examples are the internet, food,
the telephone, money, electricity and medication. We should
judge our life according to them. Regarding fossil fuels and thus
electricity, which are the source of energy the Internet and the
telephone use, we now see that fossil fuels are used in the food
industry. We can see how much they affect technology and us,
because if survival becomes one of our needs again we will need
to search for other resources to satisfy our needs.
