4. Definition of Possibility…
Possibility is the chance that something might happen or might be true. This state is
connected to the powers and abilities (dispositional characteristics or natural
inclinations) that someone already has or has been given.
6. Definition of Perfection
Perfection, is the state when someone has all the requirements, has
reached the highest level of quality and doesn’t have any flaws.
But who decides what the qualities of perfection are?
7. Everyone has a different way to understand perfection and set or develop these
qualities…
So now, I am going to show you some examples of people and imaginary characters who
tried to make perfection come true…
8. Adolf Hitler
He tried to create an -according to
him- perfect world where the
requirements were stated by him,
individual prototypes.
9. ‘’We are what we do repeatedly. Perfection,
is not an act but a habit.’’
-Aristotle
10. Clu
The dictator, created by Flynn, is
obsessed with making a perfect
Grid/world for programs but the only
way to do that in his opinion is to
deprive them of their freedom and
make them feel safe and not care
about what kind of monster he is. He
succeeds that by organizing the
‘’Games’’. He also wants to kill his
creator, Flynn, in order to clean the
system of rebels.
11. Lazlo Valentin AKA Professor Pig is a well
known foe of Batman. After becoming insane,
Pig has been obsessed with creating ‘’perfect’’
people. The results of his surgeries (including
his own body) are terrifying (and can’t be
shown in this presentation).
12. Yes, even Captain America!
The superhero, was created as the perfect warrior, a
fighter with no weaknesses, increased speed and
strength – a super human who would be able to beat
(using his power of inspiration) the Nazis during WW2 ,
the Soviet Union during the Cold War and lots of others
till 2016 when he turns against another superhero , Iron
Man.
13. But if we look closely…
All of the superheroes were created to help man
reach (even in their imagination) perfection.
Let’s take a look at some of them…
14.
15. And of course Deadpool
who was blessed/cursed
with immortality.
(Example of human trying to
reach God)
16. What do psychologists have to say about
perfection?
Psychologists, not only believe that perfection can’t be found in real life
but they also think that it’s really important to preserve the right of not
being perfect.
According to psychology…
17.
18. ‘’Don’t be afraid of perfection, you will
never reach it…
-Salvador Dali
20. Perfection and Details…
People who wanted to make a ‘’perfect’’ world or achieve perfection were
always nitpicky and paid a great deal of attention to details. Details are
small and sometimes not visible parts of a bigger total , a secondary
insubstantial (=επουσιώδες) rudiment or even the way to perfection.
22. Relationship between Possibilities and Perfection
As we said, possibilities are related to abilities that somebody has (social, financial, mental,
physical etc.). Well, they can also be based on chance. A chance, is a probability, this means that it
is a way to measure how probable something is. The ‘’Theory Of Probabilities’’ is a very popular
mathematical theory that can actually reveal the result of a gambling game, or flipping coin. To do
that, it does not actually measure the probabilities but the level of mistakes which can lead to
percentages which can reveal the result. For example, T.E. Cerrih, flipped a coin 1.000 times only
to conclude that the result would be Heads around 500 times (50%) and Tails around 500 times
(50%).
But how are Possibility and Probability connected to Perfection?
To answer this question, we will have to take into account that Perfection is actually a mix of
Details, possibilities and can be measured according to a percentage. For instance, we can say
that a person who has some specific abilities and always tries to look for details is 40% perfect (the
example is completely random and has nothing to do with any real person).
24. In conclusion, the human’s journey to perfection, can be explained by
Cavafy in his poem ‘’Ithaca’’. According to the poet, the thing that truly
matters is not the destination but the journey. In this way, Perfection
doesn’t actually matter because you may not even achieve it ever
throughout life. The journey matters. And by journey, I mean life. So we
should enjoy life rather than try to achieve perfection. Of course it’s good
to make our life better, but it could be a complete destruction if we tried to
make it perfect.
