Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by...
Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by Robert
Browning.
Ulysses was written by Lord Tennyson and is a poem about a mythical
Greek character and is a dramatic monologue. Another poem that is a dramatic monologue is My Last
Duchess , by Robert Browning. Both poems are similar, for example they are both structured similarly,
and are both different, one difference being their subject. In this essay
I will compare the two poems, focusing on form, and how language helps to build up subject matter.
Ulysses is a Greek mythical character, and was famous for being a pirate, ransacking villages and
being a warrior. In Greek literature,
Ulysses just seemed to disappear after he got home, and Tennyson decided to ... Show more content

These adjectives create an understanding of what life is like for Ulysses, and this is then contrasted
with words of his past such as roaming ,
ringing and windy . These words create a contrast between the activeness of the past, and the stillness
of the present. This helps the reader imagine what life was like for the character when he was young.
The words associated with the past are positive, whereas the words associated with the present are
negative, helping the reader to understand how Ulysses feels about the present. Line 2o Gleams that
untravelled world whose margin fades shows how Ulysses believes that he still can go out and do
things, as no matter how much he has done, he cannot have done everything. This line is important, as
Gleams leaves the reader with the impression that it is almost tempting to
Ulysses to go and live like he did in the past.
In My Last Duchess , Browning allows the reader to understand the
Duke through what he is saying and what he is doing. The first two lines introduce us to the main
topic of the Duke s speech which is a painting of his last wife. The lines: That s my last Duchess
painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive hint to us that the duchess is not alive anymore, but
Browning has made us unsure, and therefore invites us to read more into the poem. Browning engages
the reader by inviting them to make their own judgements about the Duke, and hinting on what he is

Reaction on Modern Greek Mythology
Modern Greek mythology is one of the finest arts you can find in the 21st century, it has been the
point where students and scholars study it in order to have a good look at its beauty and popularity.
Greek mythology in the modern times had influenced people so much that it became somewhat of a
lifestyle where people adapt the way the gods and goddesses look and act based on books and stories
from the past. We can tell that people use Greek designs as well on drawing up plans for buildings as
well as interior and exterior design.
Thousands of years have passed since the creation of these stories and up until today, people still
admire its beauty and uniqueness through fashion and design. Also, it peeks our curiosity on how
people back then have created such art that scholars until today still can t find solid proof on how it all

Social Loafing Essay examples
What is Social Loafing? Social Loafing is something everyone has experienced. Most likely if you do
not like group work this is one of the main reasons why. Social loading describes the tendency of
individuals to put forth less effort when they are part of a group. Because all members of the group are
pooling their effort to achieve a common goal each member of the group contributes less than they
would if they were individually responsible (Cherry). This challenges the common belief that group
work will be more productive. In 1913 a researcher named Ringelmann designed an experiment
involving rope pulling to test the effect of social loafing. His experiment found that when an
individual was put in a group his or her effort was less. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having tasks that are too difficult or are unfamiliar are likely to incite social loafing because they
group member lacks the ability or courage to provide input. Robbins and Judge (2011) theorize that
another cause of social loafing is an uneven equity. When two people are putting in different levels of
input and receiving the same level of output the larger contributor will adjust their input to reduce
cognitive dissonance. Another reason they believe is dispersion of responsibility group members
cannot be held responsible because tasks and roles are not clearly assigned. (Robbins Judge, 2011). In
research by Worchel and others (1998) it was found that groups with friends or familiar members are
far less likely to loaf when compared with groups made up of strangers (Worchel, Rothgerber, Day,
Hart, Butemeyer, 1998) Most people have been in a group made up of friends and colleges they are
familiar with and seen that in these types of groups social loafing is drastically reduced.
Gender and Cultural Difference Karau and Williams explain there are several outlying factors that
affect social loafing such as, gender, culture, and individual/collective rating. Women are less likely
than men to social loaf because of the higher importance placed on being part of or fitting in a group
while men usually place more value on individual performance. In a study of Japanese people about
20% of men and 60% of women did not social loaf (Kugihara, 1999)

Historical Quotes In Educating Rita
Each country has its very own culture and history but Great Britain is one of these countries that have
a worldly admired and one of a kind heritage. Indeed, British literature, theatre, art or even schools are
very influential and respected across the world. A few of them are illustrated in the three documents
we are about to study. The first one is an extract from Two Lives (2005) by Vikram Seth which tells
the story of a boy arriving to his new school. The second document is the scene 6, Act 1, from a play
called « Educating Rita ». In this scene, the main character Rita just went to see a play McBeth and is
now having a conversation about it with her tutor. The last document is the speech of J.K Rowling to
Harvard s students.
How to become a part of the Great British history ?
Great Britain has many world known, myths, authors and universities. For example, we can see in the
extract of Educating Rita, in which Rita just comes from the theatre where she saw MacBeth, to see
her tutor, that she is very excited and happy about the tragedy and the story. She even bought the book
and also quotes the play : « Out, out, brief candle ... ». In the play, this quote from McBeth reffers to

Causes Of The Los Angeles Riots
The twentieth century brought with it many conflicts, such as both World Wars, the Great Depression,
and civil unrest, the latter of which its effects can still be seen today. The Civil Rights Movement of
the sixties, paved the way for more demonstrations during the last quarter of the twentieth century.
One of the greatest of these demonstrations was the Los Angeles Riots (commonly known as the
Rodney King Riots) of nineteen ninety two. The Civil Rights Movement had a goal, which was to end
segregation and discrimination of African Americans, and to try to improve the wellbeing by
integrating both communities. This movement had led to many others, both peaceful and violent.
However, the goal between them all was the same. There has been many conflicts in the past between
African Americans and the Anglo community, where most were caused due to the discrimination or
taking out the anger they had after seeing themselves being treated a certain way.
Before the riots, racial tensions had already risen. There was lots of gang related activity and crime in
the poor communities of Los Angeles, where many were unemployed. These communities were
common to drug sweeps, where more than eighty officers tore apart a pair of apartment buildings,
leaving dozens homeless (History.com).
On the night of March third, nineteen ninety one, King had high levels of alcohol in his blood, due to
drinking. He had been involved in a pursuit by the police department of Los Angeles. As King

Cricket As A Bat And Ball Game
Cricket is one of the exciting sport in the world s. It is played by most countries in the world. Cricket
is not that popular in the United States compared to the countries like India, England, Australia and
many more. Cricket was discovered in Southern England before the 16th century. Cricket is a bat and
ball game (similar to Baseball) played between two teams of eleven players each on a field. At the
center of which is a rectangular twenty two yard long pitch. The game is played by millions of players
around the world, making it the world second most popular sport. Each team takes it turns to bat,
attempting to score runs, while the other team fields. There is no green or red card foul in cricket like
soccer. There are three types of player in cricket, they are called Batsmen, Bowler and All rounder.
Batsmen are the batter who bat very well, but are not good at bowling. Bowler are the pitcher (in term
of baseball) who bowl well but cannot bats well. All rounder is the players who are good at both bat
and bowl.
My favorite team in cricket is India because I been supporting for 18 years and also I was born in
India. My favorite player is MS Dhoni (Captain of India team). Sometimes it s very difficult to watch
the matches of India because of timing. I would not sleep at night when India is playing against some
other team. I will try to watch the whole game and especially when MS Dhoni is batting I would only
concentrate on seeing him how he bat because I like his style and

sale of their private label speakers. While still only a niche player in the region, Cambridge

Short Story Monologue
Despite the speed demons driving, I had a fantastic time with my new friends. After exerting our
energy from walking around the mall, we stopped for a late lunch, before watching a movie together,
and headed back home. John invited me back to his apartment, yet I felt apprehensive at the idea of
being alone with him in his domain. Thank you, once again for taking me, I say as I exit the car.
Thanks for coming out with us, says Patsy. This time, I wait by the building door and wave them
goodbye before heading inside. As I skip my way up the stairs, ready to recap my day to Alice, my
phone shrills, causing me to pause just before my front door to retrieve it. Hey, Alice. Hi Eva, I m just

As I glance over to Alice s door, the urge to open and slam it closed again surges through me.
However, it dissipates soon after, leaving Alice s door intact. Invisible bands tighten around my chest,
making it impossible to breathe, I become dizzy from hyperventilating, I need to leave the apartment,
somewhat regretting John s invitation. As I manage to calm myself, allowing my thoughts to run
clearer, I realise the stupidity of spending the evening with John, enduring his lingering stares,
considering I m far from ready to attempt a relationship with anyone right now, what with my
wretched heart set on Angelo. Inside my bedroom, I remove my winter accessories and leather coat,
tossing them on the bed beside my bag and phone, and peer into my washing basket. There isn t much
in there, not enough for a full load, nevertheless, it will take my mind off of Alice and Angelo for a
while. I heft my washing basket and head down to the basement where the washers and dryers live.
No one knows who began the rule, nevertheless, the unwritten rule is for everyone in the building to
add money to the kitty for the machine s service and purchase of the washing powder and dryer sheets.
I plunge my hand into my jeans pocket and dig out the loose change hidden within. Seventy one cents,
not much, but at least it s something. The cool, dimly lit basement remains just as neglected as the rest
of the building. Cobwebs, long since abandoned by

Assadist Should South African Government Intervention

We have come so far, given our history of oppression and prejudice. As a leading power in our
continent we have a responsibility to lead our continent in the right direction and help when another
country is going through a struggle. Given our history of human rights violations we should be
standing up for any other human rights violations within our continent. The idea of human security
challenges the idea of state centred security, it shifts the focus from the state to the individual. Security
of the people (Acharya, A 2001). We can focus on a number of types of security for the individual.
Economic security, the idea that a person has a stable income either from a job or some kind of public
support net. Political security being safeguarding people with their basic human rights as well as
freedom of the people from government attempt to control ideas and information distribution.
Personal security is the defence from violence either from the state or non state actors (Acharya, A
2001). If we look at Assadistan all of these types of human security is being let down and not upheld.
We as South Africans have a responsibility to help our brothers when a feeling of insecurity and
unsafe take over feeling of security and comfort. Intervening is our responsibility to help both the
Hadi tribe from the clear tribal oppression and to stop the attacks on the Wadi tribe and the terrorist
acts occurring in

Maturity Rating
Two doctors, W. Marshall and J. M. Tanner staged puberty into five Sexual Maturity Rating (SMR)
stages, commonly referred as Tanner Stages one through five. The staging helps determine whether
development is normal for a given age and it is based on pubic hair growth, on genital development,
and female breast development. The age at which puberty begins can vary widely between cultures.
Variation in timing of puberty around the world is affected by genetic factors (family, ethnicity, and
gender), intrauterine conditions, nutritional state, body mass, general health, light darkness cycle and
climatic conditions, and exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) (Parent et al., 2011).

Movie Reflection In The Movie Drai Santoshi Maa
Movie Reflection
In the film Jai Santoshi Maa the goddess Santoshi Maa is depicted in many different forms. Santoshi
Maa is the goddess of happiness , she has many forms in which she provides hope for the people. She
wears an elegant sari using the gesture of blessing with her hand, and at when she takes her many
different forms she has a very calm demeanor which provides hope for her devotees. This idea of hope
is shown in the movie multiple times, Satyawati, who is a very faithful devotee of Santoshi Maa, falls
in love with Birju who comes from a farming family. The two are able to get married without any
problems but the during this time Parvati, Brahmani, and Lakshmi had noticed that Santoshi Maa had
been becoming more and more popular and they get jealous. As a result of this they decide that they
wanted to torture Sarasvati as she was a big fan of Santoshi Maa. We see this torment right on the day
of the wedding as Satyavati s sister in laws are horrible human beings who do everything in their
power to bring her down. They give similar treatment to Birju as well as they disrespect him, they
feed him left overs and call him useless. This idea of feeding a son of the family leftover as a sign of
disrespect is still prominent in India today, because of the idea that women are suppose to provide the
men of the family with fresh cooked food not leftovers. Eventually Birju gets fed up with all this and

Earworm Essay
Can t Get It Out of My Head
Chances are, you have listened to the radio at some point today. Maybe even right now, you are still
humming a song you heard hours ago. You are not alone. Many people today suffer from the same
thing you are experiencing. This sometimes annoying experience is called an earworm. The earworm
effect is very real.
What is an earworm? An earworm, a term derived from the German ohrwurn is defined as a cognitive
itch or the inability to dislodge a song and prevent it from repeating itself in one s head (Synapse). It is
also described as a catchy piece of music that continually repeats itself through a person s mind. Some
people may hear the term and think that it is a myth. Others may hear the term and take it ... Show

The earworm strongly relies on the phonological loop which is a short term memory system located in
your auditory cortex. The phonological loop can best be pictured as a record that plays over and over
again without stopping, but only playing a part of the song. That may be a reason why you only
remember parts of the song; the phonological loop is a short term memory system. A lot of the time,
people may get the song stuck in their head because they can t remember how the song ends, only the
particular chorus of the song. Another reason why you may only remember parts of the song is
because certain pieces of music may have properties that excite an abnormal reaction in the brain.
(Synapse) The songs will most likely be catchy, which will contribute to the earworm effect. There
may also be a psychological reason to why some songs are more likely to stick in your head. They
include memory triggers, emotional states, and stress levels. Psychologist researchers may even be
able to treat patients with memory loss by studying music memory. Tracking an earworm in a
scientific setting can be a near impossible task . (BrainFacts). How long does the earworm effect last?
According to researchers, about 98% of all people have gotten songs stuck in their heads at one time
or another.

Conquest of the Journey
She walks to the centermost oak tree near Mason Hall, she finally has found the perfect shady spot on

taking a journey to a jungle she doesn t normally observe, a place where many humans and animals

what is going on around her, and the journey that she is on. A bushy red squirrel approaches her, she s

The Costs And Costs Of The Cost Of Building New Orleans
Next, it is necessary to identify the land that is possibly flooded and this can be calculated as: 0.50 x
0.63 = 0.315 or 31.5% of the land is flooded. Hence the probability that the area is flooded is 0.315 or
31.5%. Assuming the probabilities, rebuilding the city together with the levees will amount to $1.818
trillion in 100 years. Rebuilding the levees as of 2010 was $14 million; however, there is an additional
cost of the residual risk of Katrina. This residual risk can be calculated as: $14 / 0.6223 = $22.5
billion. This implies that rebuilding the levees would amount to a total of $14 + $22. 5 = $36.5 billion.
Thus, with these estimates, the cost of rebuilding New Orleans for the federal government would be:

In addition, some of the New Orleans residents might decide to rebuild their homes and businesses
themselves instead of waiting for the federal government. While considering rebuilding New Orleans,
a good question to ask is what the government would do with the money that it plans to use to rebuild
the city if it was diverted to other projects. The best thing to do would be to build another city
elsewhere or settling the people and businesses affected away from the city. Another option would be
to give a cash settlement to every individual, family or business that suffered a loss and allow them to
choose to rebuild in New Orleans or elsewhere. Suppose the federal government would spend $1.818
trillion to rebuild the city but instead gives a cash settlement to the city dwellers who are about $1.3
million people, each resident would get about $1.39 million that is more than enough to pay for a new
home and business in a different town. One pitfall for the federal government to rebuild the city is that
spending that huge amount of money might not make sense if the residents do not want to stay. This
would imply that the new city would become obsolete despite the billions spent to rebuild. To avert
this risk, the government will need to assess whether the people want to stay and whether New
Orleans needs a big city (Glaeser, 2005). The estimated relevant expected utility The probability (p) of

Out-Of-Hospital Research Paper
The practice of out of hospital emergency medical care has changed considerably over the last 120
years [1]. Started in the early 1900s, ambulance services in the Commonwealth countries were
originally small teams of volunteers trained by charitable organisations such as St John Ambulance
who mostly responded to and provide transportation for work traumatic and environmental injuries
caused by increasing industrialisation [2]. In the majority of countries all over the world especially in
the western countries nowadays, emergency medical systems have evolved into an organized health
system that provide the very first emergency medical response to members of the community who are
in an acute health crisis [3]. Resulted from this organisational model of pre hospital emergency
medical care are different paramedical roles in clinical practice requiring different educations and
trainings as well as experience and competency of the clinical skills. One of the most highly skilled
paramedical roles in this organisation of emergency medical services, intensive care paramedic, is
what most paramedics aspire to.

The Apollo Conspiracy
There s an organization called NASA, who s done a significant job of sticking to their story. They say
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969, and set foot on the surface 6
hours later. This same organization claims there were 5 additional missions which successfully landed
on the Moon, and a suspected total of 12 people went for a walk there. According to them, they spent
$24 billion, which is more than $150 billion in inflation adjusted dollars. Their Apollo program
employed 400,000 people, supported by more than 20,000 companies and research institutions.

Miss Brill Commentary
Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield illustrates the story of a woman who goes out out on a Sunday
afternoon and sees the world as a play, with everyone and herself acting out their roles. She wears a
fur which the author mentions throughout the story, and Miss Brill s realization of her loneliness is
only shown at the end of the story as she takes it off. Mansfield employs the techniques of
characterization, imagery, and motifs to express the theme of human alienation in society.
Mansfield uses the technique of characterization to express how the character Miss Brill is eccentric,
judgmental, and in denial of herself, that she isn t what she thinks she is. Miss Brill is characterized as
jubilant, as she describes her fur as a little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once they insult her fur, Miss Brill doesn t express her feelings of alienation from society, but the
description of her room added to her crying exhibits a significant change in mood from the beginning
of the short story, when she was excited to spend her afternoon on the bench.
Miss Brill s fur is a motif throughout the story, making significance as it is what Miss Brill puts on as
her mask to go out and try to fit in. At the beginning, Miss Brill had taken it out of its box that
afternoon, shaken out the moth powder, given it a good brush, and rubbed the life back into the dim
little eyes. Mansfield illustrates Miss Brill s peppiness, and she is as happy to wear her own fur as she
is to go out on her Sunday afternoons to take part in the play and act like she has a place in society;
even though others don t see her the same way she sees herself. She had previously described her fur
as luxurious, admiring it, though the young girl she was admiring says It s her fu ur which is so funny,
... It s exactly like a fried whiting. . Miss Brill thinks she s a part of the play and has confidence when
she wears the fur, but other characters don t see the same way she does. Mansfield shows the reader
that what Miss Brill thinks is not necessarily true, as the story is told in third person limited. Miss Brill
s mask that she puts on is her fur, and when she goes home, she turns back into the person she really
is. Mansfield

Lactose Intolerant People Research Paper
HELP FOR LACTOSE INTOLERANT PEOPLE
Who is a lactose intolerant person? This is a person who cannot digest lactose when ingested into his
body. How do you know that you are lactose intolerant? If you take fresh dairy products and diarrhoea
or get stomach upsets like bloating, pain, or cramps, regurgitation, flatulence, or gas, borborygmi
rumbling and gurgling in the stomach, nausea sometimes accompanied by vomiting, you could most
likely be a victim.
All is not lost if you still like dairy products, only in this case you may need to take tem in a different
state.
Milk has several components although many people take it as a source of protein, well it has 3.5%
protein but more than that it has a 2 8% of carbohydrates which majorly is lactose or what we call
milk sugar. This is what that gives the fresh milk a sweet taste.
In the digestion process, carbohydrates are digested from the mouth by the enzyme by salivary
amylase, in the stomach there isn t much further break down until when it gets to the small intestines.
Every sugar requires its enzyme to digest it, for example maltose requires maltase so lactose requires
lactase. Lactase enzyme is naturally produced by cells in the small intestine lining; it breaks lactose
into its simple sugars which are glucose and galactose. It cannot be absorbed in its complex state. ...

factors that can cause intolerance of fresh milk as well as fresh dairy products, these include

Femininity In The Military
Military civilian relationships have been problematic when intermingling of races occurred. For
almost twenty years, America fought in the notorious Vietnam War, supporting South Vietnam. Due to
the length of the war, military civilian relationships were bound to develop. Thus, both the South
Vietnamese and the American government made policies in order to maintain an alliance between
their citizens. Due to encouraged toxic masculinity, the presence of femininity in the military, and
racial differences, policies, such as the V.D. Control policy and the policy listed in the Fact Sheet,
were essential in order to promote healthy relationships between American troops and Vietnamese
women.

Since prostitution was legalized, Vietnamese police became known for harassing the women for being
prostitutes if they shared a taxi with an American male. The police did not approve of the
intermingling of Vietnamese with Americans. This displeasure originated from the newly established
social norm of creating prostitution houses in order to cater to foreign troops. Prostitution was the
relationship highlighted between American troops and the Vietnamese largely due to the toxic
masculinity expressed by the American troops. Based on these factors and the harassment of police,
sustaining a relationship outside of prostitution was difficult because Vietnamese women were
discouraged from spending time with foreigners due to harassment and embarrassment. Therefore, in
order to promote healthy relationships, American officials created a Fact Sheet with instructions
regarding the role of an American male in a situation where his taxi is stopped because he is with a
Vietnamese female. The purpose of the Fact Sheet was to protect the women from other Vietnamese,
specifically the police, who did not approve of their relationship with American males or who simply
wanted to profit from making women feel uncomfortable. This protection would help

Thyroid Hormone Research Paper
The thyroid is the gland responsible for taking control of the body s metabolism, protein production,
and other processes related to growth and development. The hormone, produced by this gland is an
important hormone that the body needs to grow and properly develop.
Iodine and Its Role in the Body
To produce the hormone, the thyroid needs iodine. However, iodine is a trace element and the body
cannot produce it on its own. Having a sufficient amount of iodine in the body is essential for the
production of the thyroid hormone. Lack of iodine in the body can cause problems that specifically
affect the thyroid gland.
There are two leading problems experienced by the thyroid; hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.

What is Thyroid Hormone Replacement?
The good thing is that hormone replacement is available for individuals who need help with thyroid
issues. Some conditions of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can last for long periods of time and
during this period, it is best to consult a doctor to see if hormone replacement is an option that an
individual can have.
Hormone replacement therapy is done when an individual has permanent or long term need of thyroid
hormones that the gland is failing to produce. Hormone replacement is done by using synthetic
hormones similar to the thyroid hormone of the body. The synthetic hormone will then make up for
the low or overproduction of hormones from the malfunctioning thyroid gland.
When a person s thyroid is not functioning normally, a blood workup can be done to determine
whether that person will need thyroid hormone replacement therapy, especially is the hormones are
already too high or too

My Nana In My Life
As a young adult I often find myself staring at the clock watching it change second by second, minute
by minute, wondering why it goes so slow when we have so much time. Though something I ve
learned throughout the past few years is the doleful reality that we don t get to choose how much time
we spend on this earth, the greatest thing we can do is take our allotted time and occupy it wisely, by
spending it with people we love and creating memories no amount of time can erase. My nana was
someone who throughout my life, always pushed me to do my best. She continually inspired me to be
strong and independent, while never letting me forget it s okay to lean on others when you re down. It
was the simple things she did that made me want to follow her every step; the way her sparkling
sapphire eyes brought life to every conversation, the way she danced around the kitchen to Michael
Buble while she cleaned, or the astounding way she always knew what to say to exile my fears. There
was an aura about her that drew people in, she was the type of person to make a friend in the doughnut
isle at Meijer and call them once a month to see how they re doing (true story); she was truly pure and

Legistlation to Protect Residential Occupiers agains...
Background Although there have been laws penalising unlawful eviction and harassment since 1924,
the legislation to protect residential occupiers against unlawful eviction and harassment was not
introduced until mid 1960s after Rachmanism entered the English language. Hence as a result of
policy moves in last two decades, most tenants in residential accommodation actually have a lot of
legal protection against rogue landlords under the Protection from Eviction Act 1977(PEA), Protection
from Harassment Act 1997(PHA), Housing Act 1988(HA) and Criminal Law Act 1977(CLA). Yet,
according to figures from Shelter , despite Local Authorities (LA) had the powers they needed to deal
with such unscrupulous landlords, just 487 out of an estimated 1.2 million landlords in England were
prosecuted in year 2011/12. This remarkably low figure has picture out the ineffectiveness the power
of LA in dealing with illegal eviction and harassment issues. However these figures might tell us a
little if anything as we have to take into account that, especially in the regulatory sphere, prosecution
might not be the most holistic approach and there might be many other approaches to deal with these
matters. These approaches and reasons will be discuss later as it is crucial to first analyse the
effectiveness of the LA s power. The main provisions that protect tenants from illegal eviction and
harassment are now contained in the PEA 1977, as amended by various housing provisions, in

Essay On Postoperative Pain
Discussion
Postoperative pain is the most undesired sequence of surgery, and if not treated properly, can lead to
increased hospital stay and delayed return to daily activities (10).
The management of postoperative pain has received much interest nowadays. The intensity of
postoperative pain depends on many factors such as type and duration of the surgery, type of
anesthesia and analgesia used, and the patient s mental and emotional status (11).
Local wound infiltration is an attractive method since it is efficacious and adverse actions are minimal
(12). However, this route is limited by the fact that duration of analgesia is limited to the duration of
action of local anesthetic. Efforts are being made to increase the duration of action of ... Show more

Not only could a complete experimental trial help avoid mistakes based on early promise in a study,
there was also the possibility that Mr. Ryan would not benefit from PLX4032, which in effect would
have delayed the study as the principals of a randomized controlled trial would have been
compromised.
By maintaining Mr. Ryan in the control group and withholding PLX4032, we realize that this decision
would only cause Mr. Ryan to suffer, and to die prematurely. Despite dacarbazine being one of the few
FDA approved chemotherapy drugs, and thereby labeled the standard form of care in the treatment of
metastatic melanoma for over 3 decades, we see that historically this intervention has proven to be
ineffective (Bhatia, Tykodi, Thompson, 2009). Through a pooled analysis, research indicates that this
drug has only a 15.3% objective response rate, with only 2% of patients living past 6 years (Bhatia et.
al., 2009). Likewise, the side effects implicated with toxic treatment are inevitable with dacarbazine,
so subjecting Mr. Ryan to this regimen of treatment causes needless suffering. Even doctors involved
in the study, including Dr. Keith Flaherty of Massachusetts General Hospital, have expressed their
hatred toward dacarbazine by stating that they would prefer to never give a dose again in their life, and
by lobbying for chemotherapy patients worsening in the trial to be positioned in a new trial headed by
PLX4032 s competitor

2. Usage of sugarcane bagasse ash as a replacement to Portland cement in concrete
The target economic sectors of the proposed research are the sugar industry and the construction
industry. The sugar industry will be directly affected, since the main goal of this research project is to
develop a sugarcane bagasse ash based product that can be used as an additive for concrete mixes.
Due to the known properties and chemical composition of sugarcane bagasse, it is expected that this
new product will be competitive with fly ash in terms of improving the properties of concrete mixes.
The newly added economic value of bagasse ash may also make it economically advantageous to
burning the entire stock of bagasse fiber for electricity production beyond the needs of the sugar mills.
The local construction industry will be indirectly affected by the availability of an additive for
concrete production with a lower cost and similar properties to fly ash. This new bagasse ash based
product is expected to reduce the construction costs of projects requiring large amounts of concrete
(e.g., foundations, concrete bridges), thus, leading to a potential increase in the number of construction
projects per year. The results of this research will have a significant impact on the economic
development of US regions where the sugar industry is present, such as Florida, Texas, and Hawaii

The dances from the Renaissance might seem boring to modern day social dancers, however
(http://dance.lovetoknow.com). The dance called the Pavane, or the walk, was designed to show off
clothing. The steps for this dance were designed to be small and simple
(http://dance.lovetoknow.com). The Galliard, Coranto, and Canario were dances that move at a
quicker tempo, and results in making dancers perform quicker steps (http://www.streetswing.com).
The Basse dance however, was a dance where people would glide slowly and gracefully
(http://www.streetswing.com). These dances were an elegant form of exercise and an expected social
skill for society s noble set (http://www.streetswing.com). Social dances were performed by an infinite
number of people and usually preformed in circles or lines. More complex dances would require a

the dances.

Essay On Blackfoot Mapping
Our lives are journeys. The paths we walk are unique, shaped perfectly by the shoes we wear. The
footprints we leave behind become our own personal maps. Therefore, mapping can be seen as a
metaphor for a journey. Humans are incredibly complex creatures. In order to understand humans one
must look at their entire being, not just the physical but the mental. Whether you believe in souls or
not you must admit that there is an immaterial aspect of each human. Our conscience, mind, and
emotions are all included in this invisible force. These elements are what make us humans human. To
complicate things further, not a single human is ever identical to another. Because humans are so

Everyone s map has a bias behind it that is an undisputed fact. In order to understand one way of
mapping you must understand the mind behind the map. One map will not show what another map
does, therefore limiting its reader to the possibilities. For example in Binnema s writing we learn
about the difficulties that the European s had with translating Blackfoot maps. As it turns out they
require a different level of thinking than European mapping. One man discovered this. Taking the time
to appreciate Blackfoot mapping, Peter Fidler integrated himself into the lives of the Blackfoot people.
He was able to learn directly from them and understand their way of mapping. Other Europeans read
Blackfoot maps as if they were European (Binnema, 2001, p. 208). European maps limited Europeans
minds by making them think solely as Europeans. No doubt the Blackfoot people would have also
found a difficulty with attempting to understand European maps. Open mindedness is required if you
wish to get past these biases. The more you learn about mapping the more you understand the culture
and people behind a particular

Review of the Terry vs. Ohio Case
Legal Memorandum of Terry v. Ohio, 392 U.S. 1 (1968) An analysis of history and the contemporary
exercise of police practices suitably describe the experiences of many black men when dealing with
law enforcement officers. Before the due process revolution that occurred in the 1960s, the rights of
many back men were abused on a daily basis. These practices continue regardless of a landmark ruling
by the Supreme Court that was geared towards limiting the discretion of police officers. Through the
ruling, the Supreme Court sought to promote the legal rights of black American as compared to any
other court in the judicial system (Maclin, 2012, p.1275). In light of these issues, the Terry v. Ohio
lawsuit was filed after John W. Terry, the petitioner was stopped and frisked by an officer after the law
enforcement personnel suspected him of casing a store for a possible robbery. After the police officer
approached Terry for questioning, he decided to search him first, which contributed to numerous
concerns regarding searches based on the Fourth Amendment. The case represents the need for a
boundary between a reasonable belief and probable suspicion based on coherent facts. Legal Issue:
The legal issue underlying the lawsuit is whether a search for weapons without reasonable cause for
arrest can be regarded as an unreasonable search based on the Fourth Amendment to the American
Constitution. The most appropriate answer to this legal issue is that a police officer has the

Indian Gaming Regulatory Act Of 1988
Along with the Supreme Court s 1987 decision in California vs. Cabazon, the passing of the Indian
Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 has made gaming a significant part of tribal economic development.
Gaming has brought about economic self determination for Native Americans for the first time in over
two hundred years (Neath, 1995). Over two hundred of the United States 544 federally recognized
tribes have established gaming on tribal lands (Neath, 1995). However, along with the economic
profits, Indian gaming has brought many Native Americans back to reservations after many years of
living off reservation.
The IGRA, or Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, gave Indians the right to regulate gaming activities on
tribal lands, given that it is not prohibited by federal law or by the state in with it is conducted (Neath).
According of Professor Robert Miller, the gaming industry can be compared to the gold rush (Tribal
Economic Development on Steroids). From being one of the nation s poorest communities, Indian
reservations gross millions of dollars from gaming each year, and this revenue makes up 70 percent of
the average tribal budget (Neath, 1995). This income is used for the community development projects
such as building schools, constructing roads, and financial scholarships (Neath, 1995). Gaming
revenue, which brings out non Indian capital, allows Indian communities to increase their standards of
living and allows their communities to thrive. Many tribal members receive free

Hoop Shoot Research Paper
Road trips with the family weren t always fun and exciting. Sometimes they could get very irritating.
For instance, I remember the time when my family and I went to Indiana for Carter s Hoop Shoot
Regional Final. When we were finally about two hours away from our destination, the transmission on
my mom s GMC Acadia stopped working completely. As a result, we had to pay around 4,000 dollars
to get it fixed and had to wait an extra couple days after the Hoop Shoot so it could get fixed. That trip
was very stressful and made everything we did harder and a lot more frustrating. Another time, we
were coming back from the U.P. fair in Escanaba at around midnight when we ran out of gas just near
the crossroads. We ended up calling my uncle who

Escape From Alcatraz Essay
Escape from Alcatraz on June 11, 1962: Success of failure?
Over the past 50 years, agents have been searching for the fugitives that escaped the night of June 11,
1962. There are stories from the relatives that claim that John and Clarence Anglin have been living in
Brazil. Although, their is not much information on Frank Lee Morris. Some assume he didn t make it
of separated from the brothers as soon as they got to land. Besides papers with no return address and
weird evidence, their have been sightings of the brothers and beliefs of them going to their mother
funeral. All this adds up to the possibility that the Anglin brothers, and possibly Frank Morris,
surviving the Alcatraz escape.
Much of the evidence given by the FBI has all just been assumed, not actually proved. The police and
officials have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course they make the rafts from coats as well and actually go to Alcatraz at the approximate time
when they escaped and most have succeeded. The popular T.V show Mythbusters has tried the escape,
and have come to the conclusion that it is possible to have paddled to safety close to the golden Gate
Bridge. (Gannon) Another study used some of the best hydraulics and came to the possibility that the
men could have defiantly escaped. (Gannon)
The biggest evidence that the police could possibly obtain is the fact the men are alive. Their have
been people and members of the family say that they are living somewhere in brazil with their wives
and children. One family member, a nephew by the name of Ken Widner, told daily mail that he was
certain his uncles where in brazil with their families and that they had started new life there. (Boyle).
Other sources said they new one of their family members knew they where alive, and that on his
death, he admitted that he had been in touch with the brothers for the first 25 years after the escape.

April 24, 2016 The purpose of this movie is to take a closer look at the subject matter of the 1979
movie Kramer vs. Kramer. I will be observing at the overall plot of the film, the different subtle
moments the affected the plot and what results changed the characters. Therefore, I will give my own
statements on the overall tone and conclusion of the movie. The overall plot of the movie is the image
of the father transforming and dealing with being a single parent and handling being a full time
advertising executive. With the beginning scene of the mother exiting displays she felt like her life
was dwindling away as a wife and caregiver and that s when the father had to take on the full load. For
the next few scenes, the father and son displayed resentment towards one another because of the
changes in the household dynamic. When at work, the husband s new home environment starts to
affect his office environment. His boss gives him a new and very important account even though he
was unsure if he can perform his duties like past accounts before. These dissimilar factors caused a
blow up between father and son at dinner one evening. After the blow up, the son admits to the father
that he fears that his father would leave him too like his mother did,

Essay On How To Talk To Artists At Art Festivals
How to Talk to Artists at Art Festivals The Do s and Don ts (Warning: You ve probably been guilty of
at least one of the don ts...)
This article popped up in my newsfeed over the weekend and reminded me of the hundreds of other
What Not to Say to a (fill in the blank) lists on the Internet. The general tone of most of them is
snarky, but it s snark veiled as an informative piece to educate people about proper etiquette.
Here are a few examples if you re not familiar:
From the How to Talk to Artists at Art Festivals list of what not to ask:
How did you make that?
There is a fine line with this one, the author responds, as it s all about the context. Often, this question
is asked with the intention of, I ll go home and make one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, I got it. Actually, wait. I ll probably forget by the time I get to the office and write something you
ll be embarrassed about. See. My list makes me sound like a jerk and the truth is those things don t
really bother me. It s part of the job. Shouldn t adults be able to handle people not being Emily Post in
every situation?
As for people not understanding me as a writer like people may not understand the plight of the artist
or bartender I typically assume this is the case. I assume people don t know how many hours I spend
at meetings or doing research to get one 600 word story, because why would they? My suspicion is
that these lists are like trade magazines and are read primarily by members of the niche group (artist,
adoptive parent, bartender) more than they are by the intended audience. But if I m wrong, instead of
keeping insensitive, obtuse comments at bay they create an atmosphere of fear. Instead of saying
something insensitive, which may very well have been unintentional, people might decide not to
communicate at all because they don t want to offend. The last thing I want, especially as a journalist,
is for people to be afraid to talk to me openly.
Don t get me wrong I love a good list (grocery lists, to do lists, playlists), and study after study shows
that the brain responds well to them. Umberto Eco told The Atlantic the list has an irresistible magic
and in cultural history has prevailed over and over again. Agreed.

  • 3. Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by... Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by Robert Browning. Ulysses was written by Lord Tennyson and is a poem about a mythical Greek character and is a dramatic monologue. Another poem that is a dramatic monologue is My Last Duchess , by Robert Browning. Both poems are similar, for example they are both structured similarly, and are both different, one difference being their subject. In this essay I will compare the two poems, focusing on form, and how language helps to build up subject matter. Ulysses is a Greek mythical character, and was famous for being a pirate, ransacking villages and being a warrior. In Greek literature, Ulysses just seemed to disappear after he got home, and Tennyson decided to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These adjectives create an understanding of what life is like for Ulysses, and this is then contrasted with words of his past such as roaming , ringing and windy . These words create a contrast between the activeness of the past, and the stillness of the present. This helps the reader imagine what life was like for the character when he was young. The words associated with the past are positive, whereas the words associated with the present are negative, helping the reader to understand how Ulysses feels about the present. Line 2o Gleams that untravelled world whose margin fades shows how Ulysses believes that he still can go out and do things, as no matter how much he has done, he cannot have done everything. This line is important, as Gleams leaves the reader with the impression that it is almost tempting to Ulysses to go and live like he did in the past. In My Last Duchess , Browning allows the reader to understand the Duke through what he is saying and what he is doing. The first two lines introduce us to the main topic of the Duke s speech which is a painting of his last wife. The lines: That s my last Duchess painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive hint to us that the duchess is not alive anymore, but Browning has made us unsure, and therefore invites us to read more into the poem. Browning engages the reader by inviting them to make their own judgements about the Duke, and hinting on what he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Greek mythology in the modern times had influenced people so much that it became somewhat of a lifestyle where people adapt the way the gods and goddesses look and act based on books and stories from the past. We can tell that people use Greek designs as well on drawing up plans for buildings as well as interior and exterior design. • 5. Social Loafing Essay examples What is Social Loafing? Social Loafing is something everyone has experienced. Most likely if you do not like group work this is one of the main reasons why. Social loading describes the tendency of individuals to put forth less effort when they are part of a group. Because all members of the group are pooling their effort to achieve a common goal each member of the group contributes less than they would if they were individually responsible (Cherry). This challenges the common belief that group work will be more productive. In 1913 a researcher named Ringelmann designed an experiment involving rope pulling to test the effect of social loafing. His experiment found that when an individual was put in a group his or her effort was less. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having tasks that are too difficult or are unfamiliar are likely to incite social loafing because they group member lacks the ability or courage to provide input. Robbins and Judge (2011) theorize that another cause of social loafing is an uneven equity. When two people are putting in different levels of input and receiving the same level of output the larger contributor will adjust their input to reduce cognitive dissonance. Another reason they believe is dispersion of responsibility group members cannot be held responsible because tasks and roles are not clearly assigned. (Robbins Judge, 2011). In research by Worchel and others (1998) it was found that groups with friends or familiar members are far less likely to loaf when compared with groups made up of strangers (Worchel, Rothgerber, Day, Hart, Butemeyer, 1998) Most people have been in a group made up of friends and colleges they are familiar with and seen that in these types of groups social loafing is drastically reduced. Gender and Cultural Difference Karau and Williams explain there are several outlying factors that affect social loafing such as, gender, culture, and individual/collective rating. Women are less likely than men to social loaf because of the higher importance placed on being part of or fitting in a group while men usually place more value on individual performance. In a study of Japanese people about 20% of men and 60% of women did not social loaf (Kugihara, 1999) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Indeed, British literature, theatre, art or even schools are very influential and respected across the world. A few of them are illustrated in the three documents we are about to study. The first one is an extract from Two Lives (2005) by Vikram Seth which tells the story of a boy arriving to his new school. The second document is the scene 6, Act 1, from a play called « Educating Rita ». • 8. Causes Of The Los Angeles Riots The twentieth century brought with it many conflicts, such as both World Wars, the Great Depression, and civil unrest, the latter of which its effects can still be seen today. The Civil Rights Movement of the sixties, paved the way for more demonstrations during the last quarter of the twentieth century. One of the greatest of these demonstrations was the Los Angeles Riots (commonly known as the Rodney King Riots) of nineteen ninety two. The Civil Rights Movement had a goal, which was to end segregation and discrimination of African Americans, and to try to improve the wellbeing by integrating both communities. This movement had led to many others, both peaceful and violent. However, the goal between them all was the same. There has been many conflicts in the past between African Americans and the Anglo community, where most were caused due to the discrimination or taking out the anger they had after seeing themselves being treated a certain way. Before the riots, racial tensions had already risen. There was lots of gang related activity and crime in the poor communities of Los Angeles, where many were unemployed. These communities were common to drug sweeps, where more than eighty officers tore apart a pair of apartment buildings, leaving dozens homeless (History.com). An earworm, a term derived from the German ohrwurn is defined as a cognitive itch or the inability to dislodge a song and prevent it from repeating itself in one s head (Synapse). The phonological loop can best be pictured as a record that plays over and over again without stopping, but only playing a part of the song. That may be a reason why you only remember parts of the song; the phonological loop is a short term memory system. A lot of the time, people may get the song stuck in their head because they can t remember how the song ends, only the particular chorus of the song. Another reason why you may only remember parts of the song is because certain pieces of music may have properties that excite an abnormal reaction in the brain. (Synapse) The songs will most likely be catchy, which will contribute to the earworm effect. There may also be a psychological reason to why some songs are more likely to stick in your head. They include memory triggers, emotional states, and stress levels. Psychologist researchers may even be able to treat patients with memory loss by studying music memory. Tracking an earworm in a scientific setting can be a near impossible task . (BrainFacts). How long does the earworm effect last? The Costs And Costs Of The Cost Of Building New Orleans Next, it is necessary to identify the land that is possibly flooded and this can be calculated as: 0.50 x 0.63 = 0.315 or 31.5% of the land is flooded. Hence the probability that the area is flooded is 0.315 or 31.5%. Assuming the probabilities, rebuilding the city together with the levees will amount to $1.818 trillion in 100 years. Rebuilding the levees as of 2010 was $14 million; however, there is an additional cost of the residual risk of Katrina. This residual risk can be calculated as: $14 / 0.6223 = $22.5 billion. In addition, some of the New Orleans residents might decide to rebuild their homes and businesses themselves instead of waiting for the federal government. While considering rebuilding New Orleans, a good question to ask is what the government would do with the money that it plans to use to rebuild the city if it was diverted to other projects. The best thing to do would be to build another city elsewhere or settling the people and businesses affected away from the city. Another option would be to give a cash settlement to every individual, family or business that suffered a loss and allow them to choose to rebuild in New Orleans or elsewhere. Suppose the federal government would spend $1.818 trillion to rebuild the city but instead gives a cash settlement to the city dwellers who are about $1.3 million people, each resident would get about $1.39 million that is more than enough to pay for a new home and business in a different town. One pitfall for the federal government to rebuild the city is that spending that huge amount of money might not make sense if the residents do not want to stay. This would imply that the new city would become obsolete despite the billions spent to rebuild. To avert this risk, the government will need to assess whether the people want to stay and whether New Orleans needs a big city (Glaeser, 2005). In the majority of countries all over the world especially in the western countries nowadays, emergency medical systems have evolved into an organized health system that provide the very first emergency medical response to members of the community who are in an acute health crisis [3]. Resulted from this organisational model of pre hospital emergency medical care are different paramedical roles in clinical practice requiring different educations and trainings as well as experience and competency of the clinical skills. One of the most highly skilled paramedical roles in this organisation of emergency medical services, intensive care paramedic, is what most paramedics aspire to. Miss Brill Commentary Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield illustrates the story of a woman who goes out out on a Sunday afternoon and sees the world as a play, with everyone and herself acting out their roles. She wears a fur which the author mentions throughout the story, and Miss Brill s realization of her loneliness is only shown at the end of the story as she takes it off. Mansfield employs the techniques of characterization, imagery, and motifs to express the theme of human alienation in society. At the beginning, Miss Brill had taken it out of its box that afternoon, shaken out the moth powder, given it a good brush, and rubbed the life back into the dim little eyes. Mansfield illustrates Miss Brill s peppiness, and she is as happy to wear her own fur as she is to go out on her Sunday afternoons to take part in the play and act like she has a place in society; even though others don t see her the same way she sees herself. • 22. Lactose Intolerant People Research Paper HELP FOR LACTOSE INTOLERANT PEOPLE Who is a lactose intolerant person? This is a person who cannot digest lactose when ingested into his body. How do you know that you are lactose intolerant? If you take fresh dairy products and diarrhoea or get stomach upsets like bloating, pain, or cramps, regurgitation, flatulence, or gas, borborygmi rumbling and gurgling in the stomach, nausea sometimes accompanied by vomiting, you could most likely be a victim. All is not lost if you still like dairy products, only in this case you may need to take tem in a different state. Milk has several components although many people take it as a source of protein, well it has 3.5% protein but more than that it has a 2 8% of carbohydrates which majorly is lactose or what we call milk sugar. This is what that gives the fresh milk a sweet taste. In the digestion process, carbohydrates are digested from the mouth by the enzyme by salivary amylase, in the stomach there isn t much further break down until when it gets to the small intestines. Since prostitution was legalized, Vietnamese police became known for harassing the women for being prostitutes if they shared a taxi with an American male. Prostitution was the relationship highlighted between American troops and the Vietnamese largely due to the toxic masculinity expressed by the American troops. Based on these factors and the harassment of police, sustaining a relationship outside of prostitution was difficult because Vietnamese women were discouraged from spending time with foreigners due to harassment and embarrassment. Therefore, in order to promote healthy relationships, American officials created a Fact Sheet with instructions regarding the role of an American male in a situation where his taxi is stopped because he is with a Vietnamese female. Background Although there have been laws penalising unlawful eviction and harassment since 1924, the legislation to protect residential occupiers against unlawful eviction and harassment was not introduced until mid 1960s after Rachmanism entered the English language. Hence as a result of policy moves in last two decades, most tenants in residential accommodation actually have a lot of legal protection against rogue landlords under the Protection from Eviction Act 1977(PEA), Protection from Harassment Act 1997(PHA), Housing Act 1988(HA) and Criminal Law Act 1977(CLA). Yet, according to figures from Shelter , despite Local Authorities (LA) had the powers they needed to deal with such unscrupulous landlords, just 487 out of an estimated 1.2 million landlords in England were prosecuted in year 2011/12. This remarkably low figure has picture out the ineffectiveness the power of LA in dealing with illegal eviction and harassment issues. However these figures might tell us a little if anything as we have to take into account that, especially in the regulatory sphere, prosecution might not be the most holistic approach and there might be many other approaches to deal with these matters. These approaches and reasons will be discuss later as it is crucial to first analyse the effectiveness of the LA s power. By maintaining Mr. Ryan in the control group and withholding PLX4032, we realize that this decision would only cause Mr. Ryan to suffer, and to die prematurely. Despite dacarbazine being one of the few FDA approved chemotherapy drugs, and thereby labeled the standard form of care in the treatment of metastatic melanoma for over 3 decades, we see that historically this intervention has proven to be ineffective (Bhatia, Tykodi, Thompson, 2009). Likewise, the side effects implicated with toxic treatment are inevitable with dacarbazine, so subjecting Mr. Ryan to this regimen of treatment causes needless suffering. Even doctors involved in the study, including Dr. Keith Flaherty of Massachusetts General Hospital, have expressed their hatred toward dacarbazine by stating that they would prefer to never give a dose again in their life, and by lobbying for chemotherapy patients worsening in the trial to be positioned in a new trial headed by PLX4032 s competitor ... In light of these issues, the Terry v. Ohio lawsuit was filed after John W. Terry, the petitioner was stopped and frisked by an officer after the law enforcement personnel suspected him of casing a store for a possible robbery. After the police officer approached Terry for questioning, he decided to search him first, which contributed to numerous concerns regarding searches based on the Fourth Amendment. The case represents the need for a boundary between a reasonable belief and probable suspicion based on coherent facts. Legal Issue: The legal issue underlying the lawsuit is whether a search for weapons without reasonable cause for arrest can be regarded as an unreasonable search based on the Fourth Amendment to the American Constitution. • 40. Indian Gaming Regulatory Act Of 1988 Along with the Supreme Court s 1987 decision in California vs. Cabazon, the passing of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 has made gaming a significant part of tribal economic development. Gaming has brought about economic self determination for Native Americans for the first time in over two hundred years (Neath, 1995). Over two hundred of the United States 544 federally recognized tribes have established gaming on tribal lands (Neath, 1995). However, along with the economic profits, Indian gaming has brought many Native Americans back to reservations after many years of living off reservation. The IGRA, or Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, gave Indians the right to regulate gaming activities on tribal lands, given that it is not prohibited by federal law or by the state in with it is conducted (Neath). According of Professor Robert Miller, the gaming industry can be compared to the gold rush (Tribal Economic Development on Steroids). From being one of the nation s poorest communities, Indian reservations gross millions of dollars from gaming each year, and this revenue makes up 70 percent of the average tribal budget (Neath, 1995). This income is used for the community development projects such as building schools, constructing roads, and financial scholarships (Neath, 1995). Gaming revenue, which brings out non Indian capital, allows Indian communities to increase their standards of living and allows their communities to thrive. Many tribal members receive free ... • 41. Hoop Shoot Research Paper Road trips with the family weren t always fun and exciting. Sometimes they could get very irritating. For instance, I remember the time when my family and I went to Indiana for Carter s Hoop Shoot Regional Final. When we were finally about two hours away from our destination, the transmission on my mom s GMC Acadia stopped working completely. As a result, we had to pay around 4,000 dollars to get it fixed and had to wait an extra couple days after the Hoop Shoot so it could get fixed. That trip was very stressful and made everything we did harder and a lot more frustrating. Another time, we were coming back from the U.P. fair in Escanaba at around midnight when we ran out of gas just near the crossroads. We ended up calling my uncle who ... Over the past 50 years, agents have been searching for the fugitives that escaped the night of June 11, 1962. There are stories from the relatives that claim that John and Clarence Anglin have been living in Brazil. Although, their is not much information on Frank Lee Morris. Some assume he didn t make it of separated from the brothers as soon as they got to land. Besides papers with no return address and weird evidence, their have been sightings of the brothers and beliefs of them going to their mother funeral. All this adds up to the possibility that the Anglin brothers, and possibly Frank Morris, surviving the Alcatraz escape. Much of the evidence given by the FBI has all just been assumed, not actually proved. The police and officials have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course they make the rafts from coats as well and actually go to Alcatraz at the approximate time when they escaped and most have succeeded. The popular T.V show Mythbusters has tried the escape, and have come to the conclusion that it is possible to have paddled to safety close to the golden Gate Bridge. (Gannon) Another study used some of the best hydraulics and came to the possibility that the men could have defiantly escaped. (Gannon) The biggest evidence that the police could possibly obtain is the fact the men are alive. Their have been people and members of the family say that they are living somewhere in brazil with their wives and children. One family member, a nephew by the name of Ken Widner, told daily mail that he was certain his uncles where in brazil with their families and that they had started new life there. (Boyle). Other sources said they new one of their family members knew they where alive, and that on his death, he admitted that he had been in touch with the brothers for the first 25 years after the escape. ... • 44. Essay On How To Talk To Artists At Art Festivals How to Talk to Artists at Art Festivals The Do s and Don ts (Warning: You ve probably been guilty of at least one of the don ts...) This article popped up in my newsfeed over the weekend and reminded me of the hundreds of other What Not to Say to a (fill in the blank) lists on the Internet. The general tone of most of them is snarky, but it s snark veiled as an informative piece to educate people about proper etiquette. Here are a few examples if you re not familiar: From the How to Talk to Artists at Art Festivals list of what not to ask: How did you make that? There is a fine line with this one, the author responds, as it s all about the context. Often, this question is asked with the intention of, I ll go home and make one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, I got it. Actually, wait. I ll probably forget by the time I get to the office and write something you ll be embarrassed about. See. My list makes me sound like a jerk and the truth is those things don t really bother me. It s part of the job. Shouldn t adults be able to handle people not being Emily Post in every situation? As for people not understanding me as a writer like people may not understand the plight of the artist or bartender I typically assume this is the case. I assume people don t know how many hours I spend at meetings or doing research to get one 600 word story, because why would they? My suspicion is that these lists are like trade magazines and are read primarily by members of the niche group (artist, adoptive parent, bartender) more than they are by the intended audience. But if I m wrong, instead of keeping insensitive, obtuse comments at bay they create an atmosphere of fear. Instead of saying something insensitive, which may very well have been unintentional, people might decide not to communicate at all because they don t want to offend. The last thing I want, especially as a journalist, is for people to be afraid to talk to me openly. Don t get me wrong I love a good list (grocery lists, to do lists, playlists), and study after study shows that the brain responds well to them. Umberto Eco told The Atlantic the list has an irresistible magic and in cultural history has prevailed over and over again. Agreed. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
