Ku Klux Klan In America
The KKK in America With a meeting of friends on Christmas Eve a fraternity mockery that would
later murder and persecute hundreds of thousands of minorities was formed. These men were retired
confederate soldiers who were tired of northern carpetbaggers and African Americans disturbing their
way of life. On December 24, 1865 the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was formed in the small town of
Pulaski, Tennessee to fight for their rights. There have been many hate groups around the world;
however, the Ku Klux Klan is one that has impacted the lives and lifestyles of Americans by
promoting white supremacy, segregation, and treating minorities unjustifiably. Like all influential
groups the KKK have a specific structure and many symbols identifying them all ... Show more

The Grapes Of Wrath By John Steinbeck And The Grapes Of Wrath
The novels The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and Under the Feet of Jesus by Helena Maria
Viramontes both explore the plight of migrant farmers in California. Steinbeck tells the story of white
migrant workers during the Great Depression and Viramontes tells the story of Mexican migrant
workers. The novels deconstruct the perceived California dream in which great wealth can be
achieved through hard work by recounting the plights of migrant workers who recognize the illusion
and take action against it. Steinbeck s novel portrays the plight of the Joad family, natives of
Oklahoma. The Joads, a family of dispossessed farmers, travel to California searching for work after
the forces of large scale banking capitalism remove them from their land. They chase the promise of a
new beginning and the opportunity to find wealth because of the California dream. Steinbeck narrates
the journey of an underclass family achieving the Marxist construction of class consciousness. Class
conflict between wage slaves and the owners of the means of production, social alienation through the
separation of labor and profit, and dehumanization of workers through the mass commodification of
labor all appear in the novel. Class consciousness defines the novel and is the method by which the
Joad family is able to rise against the bourgeois and capitalism. The Joads are a member of the
proletariat and must work as laborers who are, according to Karl Marx, A class of labourers, who live

Sherman s March To The Sea Analysis
Sherman s March to the sea likewise called the Savannah Crusade was embraced by General William

Sherman left a way of devastation afterward While destroying the framework, ventures, yields, and

propelled his huge armed force through the Carolinas. Various ridiculous fights and encounters were
battled as his armed force progressed and moved toward the North Carolina capital of Raleigh. Not
long after that meeting Wilson and his rangers fighters joined Gen. George H. Thomas troops in
devastating Hood s armed force. This letter, composed on January 21, a month after the fall of
Savannah on December 21, 1864, demonstrates both Sherman and Wilson prepared to start the second

Environmental Effects Of Plastic Bags
I decided to write this report after watching a documentary called, Plastic Bags Environmental
Impacts on YouTube. The video showed poor innocent animals wrapped up in plastic bags and it made
me feel heartbroken. So I wanted to find out what other issues do plastic bags create and if we really
need to ban them, or if we need to find other alternatives, or just manage our use of them. Plastic bags
have a benefit convenience , as most people nowadays use plastic bags for all sort of things e.g.
moving things, reusing for shopping, art and crafts which show people are reusing them seen they are
so convenient. My hypothesis is: Plastic bags are causing a problem and together we need to find a
solution. My key questions are: What are the issues that plastic bags create? Are their environmentally
friendly alternatives to plastic bags? How can we manage the use of plastic bags? What are the issues
that plastic bags create? There are a wide range of issues around plastic bags, including impacts on
animal welfare. According to an article I found on healthguidance.org One of the greatest problems is
that an estimated 300 million plastic bags end up in the Atlantic Ocean alone. So just think of the poor
sea life that go hunting and mistake a floating plastic bag for a meal and end up suffocating and
experiencing a slow, painful death. 86% of all known species of sea turtles have had reported
problems of entanglement or ingestion of marine debris including plastic bags (post

Mass Destruction And Death In William Golding s Lord Of...
Humans kill. Whether it be animals, insects or people, humans kill. Human look at others and use the
justice system to try and fix what other humans have done and this is the way they are punished. They
are punished in a functioning society with rules and laws, but when all that is stripped away what are
you left with? Mass destruction and humans that kill. Lord of the Flies published in 1954 and written
by Nobel Prize winning author, William Golding, portrays the violence and eradication of a
functioning society through young boys stranded on an island. Golding uses the symbol fire and
forgetfulness of the need for it to develop the theme of the loss of society and creation of uncivilized
destruction. He uses the character Ralph as a connection to the fire to imply the civilization seen in the
story.
Ralph as chief in the beginning of Lord of the Flies uses fire to fuel his main goal as a leader, which is
to get back home. He treats the fire as a necessity and one of the most important assets of being on the
island. Ralph uses the smoke from the fire as a safety net that keeps him comfortable and with the
hope of getting home. And we ll be responsible for keeping a lookout too. If we see a ship out
there...we ll put green branches on. Then there ll be more smoke (Golding 43). He emphasizes the
need for the smoke as he sees this as one of the only ways that they will ever be rescued. Ralph is seen
to be still full of hope for life and escaping. He uses the symbol fire

Persuasive Essay On Airport Security
Airport security in the United States has been a controversial topic since the terrorist attacks of
September 11th. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was established to ensure the
safety and security of US airports. New regulations such as taking off shoes and full body scanners
soon became the new normal in airports across the country. Travelers voiced concerns and complaints
over the heightened security measures, arguing that they invade privacy and are unethical. On the
other hand, Israel s Ben Gurion Airport takes a very different approach to tackle terrorism in airports.
Instead of high tech machines, the airport focuses on the use of intelligence data and profiling to
effectively identify terrorists. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only other option for passengers uncomfortable with the full body scanners is a full body pat
down, which can be just if not more as troublesome. There is anecdotal evidence that passengers feel
that pat‐down procedures are embarrassing and invasive because they involve screeners touching
people near sensitive body areas. Although very specific guidelines and boundaries have been
established by national airport authorities, inappropriate pat‐down searches are still reported. (Bello
Salau 666)
The TSA, however, tries to assure passengers that the images produced are blurred which means the
passengers being screened cannot be recognized. It further emphasized that the images are not
recorded. In response to this, the Islamic Human Right Commission (IHRC), a non profit research and
advocacy organization based in London, says The fact that a person s facial features cannot be
identified does not mean that the images are any less invasive. The images still show the person s
body in graphic detail where intimate piercing, catheters and all the parts of the person s body
(including those that a person would normally wish to keep private) are seen by the screener. This is
gross invasion of privacy. If these images are truly not archived, the question is where is the images
uploaded on the internet are gotten from. (Bello Salau 668)
Furthermore, these full body scanning devices may not even be effective. A team of researchers at UC

The greatest icon of martial arts cinema, and a key figure of modern popular culture. Had it not been
for the amazing Bruce Lee and his incredible movies in the early 1970s, it s arguable whether or not
the martial arts film genre would have ever penetrated and influenced mainstream western cinema
audiences the way it has over the past three decades. The influence of Asian martial arts cinema can be

Chapter 5-4 Gender Roles
Chapter five dealt with biological sexes and gender. The chapter begins by stating that there are more
than two sexes, contrary to popular belief. There are at least three sexes: male, female, and intersex
individuals, who have genital ambiguity. Most of this chapter discussed the difficulties of intersex
individuals face in the society. These individuals are often ignored or forced to live their life ashamed
of their bodies. In the United States these individuals are seen as abnormality, or medical accidents,
that are to be corrected through surgery. In many instances the surgeries make the individual a female
by removing any male anatomy within them. This is performed since many believe that gender

The Pros And Cons Of Classifications In Biology
Classification is a matter of categorizing various living things into different groups and therefore we
can distinguish diverse species. It is absolutely crucial and takes a huge role in our lives of human
beings, who are the most developed and intellectual animals on the planet earth. Classification
gradually led to a massive development of Science, especially Biology and eventually resulted in the
creation of new classification systems which we are pretty much aware of in the 21st century. If there
were no classifications towards the uncountable living things, the entire world would be in a definite
chaos because of approximately about 8.7 million different species (Richard Black, BBC) getting

Analysis Of Doublespeak By William Lutz
language. Lutz begins the persuasive essay with a sarcastic tone. He distinguishes the use of
doublespeak with quotation marks. He starts off each sentence without the use of doublespeak and
ends with how doublespeak perceives the situation to be rather than the reality. Lutz states, The
Reagan Administration didn t propose any new taxes, just revenue enhancement through new user s
fees. (Lutz line 1 3) He shows how taxes was changed to something different in order to mislead the
public. William Lutz provided various examples to show that doublespeak can sugarcoat different
situations. He then goes on to supply a definition of doublespeak through diction. William Lutz
continues to classify doublespeak as a language and explains how it is used to mislead others. He
states, Doublespeak is language that avoids or shifts responsibility, language that is at variance with its
real or purported meaning. (Lutz line10 11) This shows that it is at a whole other level that has to be
deciphered to be able to understand and also suggests that can be difficult to capture. Lutz also uses
repetition to give the definition. He states, It is the incongruity between the word and referent,
between seem and be, between the essential function of language... (Lutz line 15 16) This emphasizes
the length of the effect doublespeak can have. Lutz begins to structure his essay into subsections to
further explain doublespeak. The first subsection focuses on How to Spot Doublespeak. He

Candide, The Idea Of Optimism
Comedy of ideas, a form a satire and also known as a form of high comedy, is a when two ideas of
thoughts are put directly against each other. Typically it involves characters arguing about ideas that
involve politics, social classes, and society as a whole. Characters use wit, mockery, and clever
language as a way to mimic and mock their challenger. In the case of Candide, the idea of optimism
(Pangloss views) and pessimism (Martin) are pinned against each other. Optimism is an attitude in
which one remains hopeful and positive despite the negative circumstances. Pangloss view of
optimism involves his belief that everything happens for a reason. Pangloss is stuck in this particular
state of mind through out the novel. He firmly believes that the death, mishaps and misfortunes of
others are the way the world is and God has a plan. Candide also starts out in this state of mind due to
the fact that Pangloss mentored him and shaped his way of thinking. However, unlike Pangloss,
Candide progresses in his way of thought. In this novel, Pangloss represents Voltaire s attack on
philosophical optimism and the non progressive social consequences involved with optimism.
Voltaire depicts three lifestyles in Candide. Candide starts out by living in a Paradise , a representation
of the Garden of Eden. Then there is a Utopia which is his time living in El Dorado, a place where
everyone is equal and competition is nonexistent. This is essentially the most perfect

Bitter Imagery in Hamlet Essay
Bitter Imagery in Hamlet
In Hamlet, imagery of disease, poison and decay, are used by Shakespeare for a purpose. The
descriptions of disease, poison, and decay help us understand the bitter relationships that exist in the
play and Hamlet s own cynicism. We see Hamlet s pessimism in his soliloquy when he contemplates
suicide. The resentful relationship that exists between Claudius and Hamlet is heightened with the use
of imagery when Claudius asks about Polonius. Imagery enhances Claudius abhorrence of Hamlet.

when he is with the queen, after the death of Polonius. The King says that he is the owner of a foul
disease, which is Hamlet. He feels that he must keep Hamlet hidden to avoid embarrassment and
others scorn. Claudius compares Hamlet to a disease, in such a way that as wretched and disgusting as
it may be,it should be kept from the public. We can see that he despises Hamlet greatly and won t
allow him to ruin his life. This shows us how endless Claudius hatred is towards Hamlet. Claudius
extreme anger and frustration is displayed when he says, For like the hectic in my blood he rages, And
though must cure me. (IV;iii, 62 63) Claudius describes Hamlet as a vicious disease travelling in his
own blood. Hamlet is so deep in the midst of Claudius pure distaste for him, that he wants Hamlet
dead. When Hamlet is gone, then and only then, Claudius can be cured from the atrocious disease that
he suffers terribly from. The images of disease express the genuine feelings felt by Claudius. Imagery
highlights the poor, horrid relationship that exists between father and stepson. Shakespeare illuminates
Claudius true sentiment with the imagery of disease.
Hamlet gravely carries a hatred for his uncle, now step father, and king of England. Hamlet knows his
uncle killed his father and this is the stem of his hatred. Hamlet can

How Did Martin Luther King Influence The Civil Rights...
The Civil Rights movement gained recognition during the 1950s and 1960s. African Americans fought
for equality for many years but did not see any results. Even though slavery ended, there was still
segregation in public facilities and prejudice in the society. There was a drastic change in the
movement when the Supreme Court shut down segregation in schools. African Americans were
influenced by both Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, who ends up becoming their leader.
From the 1950s to 1960s, people saw a remarkable change in the movement through nonviolent
protests, the Supreme Court decision, Parks and Dr. King s influences. During the early 1950s, blacks
started questioning the segregated school systems. Thurgood Marshall fought a case with the support
of an organization called National Association for the Advancement of Colored People or NAACP.
Marshall was a lawyer, who fought against the segregation in law schools as well as other graduate
programs. Later, the graduate schools are desegregated. Another case known as Brown v. Board of
Education of Topeka questioned the separate but equal doctrine; it addressed the issues children face
due to segregation in schools. The Supreme Court said that racial segregation in schools violates the

Artificial Intelligence Dangers
What are the dangers and possible benefits of Artificial Intelligence? Throughout the course of history,
technological advances have proven to not only influence, but significantly impact one s quality of
life. Within society, there are those who strongly believe that these advancements have saved lives and
benefitted future generations, while others argue against it, firmly articulating that the progression of
technology will prove to work against the overall betterment of humanity. Despite this, one cannot
deny society s obsession and thirst for the next big technological advancement. Human s, never

While his dual life as Doctor (though he never actively pursued a medical career), and commercial
cartoonist is well known, what many fans of Japanese animation do not know was that Dr. Tezuka led

is a field usually reserved for the terminology art film , but the genre is an area full of

usage of the medium in independent animation.
In 1961, Yoji Kuri started a group known as the Animation Party of Three with Ryohei Yanagihara and

Effects Of The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was established by U.S. president James Monroe and the U.S. secretary of state
John Quincy Adams. Their plan of the Monroe Doctrine represented a solid line where the Americans
will no longer tolerate interference from European powers in any way shape or form. For the most
part, America was minding its own business until Imperialism started booming in the late 1800 s.
Latin America was less developed and America saw South and Central America as perfect candidates
to extract resources and sell U.S. goods. The culture of capitalism was on the rise. The start of
Manifest Destiny began to construct U.S. foreign policy which led to America reaching towards the
Caribbean and Latin America to expand.
Firstly, If God and mission was the road to Manifest Destiny, Imperialism was the light that shined
bright to lead the way (Lubragge). America started off by investing in businesses and land all around
Latin America. Imperialism led to the U.S. taking over the Philippines, Guam, and Puerto Rico via the
Spanish American War (Lubragge). America was under the impression they were safeguarding the
world from Spanish oppression and began sculpting expansionist policies. The Spanish American War
put an end to Spain s colonial empire in the region and gave the United States complete control of the
Pacific. The U.S. victory led to a peace treaty between the U.S. and Spain, which gave all claims of

In order to do that, companies must really grill applicants during the interview process and this is
rather nerve racking for a candidate and can cause even the best employees to stumble. Mock
interviews provide students an opportunity to practice being grilled without a job being on the line. As
the old saying goes, Practice makes perfect. The interviews also help prepare the students as to how
the process will advance and what questions to expect during an interview. Many times students go
into an interview and are asked a question they have no idea how to answer such as why should we
give you the job and then are left there fumbling out a semi confident answer. Giving students an
opportunity to rehearse/practice excellent answers, mock interviews increase the likely hood of doing
well during an actual interview. One last career planning resource is ASU s career fair. This is a great
tool that needs to be used by all students well before and right before graduation. Students can attend
and this gives them a great opportunity to connect with prospective employers early on. There are
employers from everywhere that attend the ASU career fair. If a student really connects with and
impresses a recruiter, this may land them a job well ahead of graduation, and there is not much better
than knowing one does not have to search for a job after graduation. The career fair may provide
students with potential job

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Floor Trading
Floor trading is described as where traders or stockbrokers meet at a specific venue referred to as a
trading floor or pit to buy and sell financial instruments using open outcry method to communicate
with each other. These venues are typically stock or futures exchanges, where transactions are
executed by members of the latter financial products using specific language or hand signals. During
the 1980s and 1990s phone and electronic trading replaced physical floor trading in most exchanges
around the world. Technologies for recording, displaying, and memorizing price data opened up ways
of monitoring and analyzing market behavior which otherwise would not have been possible. The
accelerated expansion of computer technologies was preceded and encouraged by regulatory
involvement with data recording, generally understood as the continuation of a longer process of
definitional transformations. This essay aims to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of ECN

By displaying only the price and size of an order, ECNs provide trader anonymity. Anonymity is
potentially important for informed institutional investors, because less informed traders may attempt
to copy their strategy. In addition, if other market participants can obtain prior or contemporaneous
knowledge of transactions, they may attempt to trade before the institutional investors can complete
their trades, a practice known as front running. In financial markets, any sort of front running or
information leakage is a serious concern. Other, however, argue that this is one of the principal
benefits of open outcry that traders can observe the behavior of other traders on the floor. For
example, by noting whether other traders have large buy or sell positions, a trader can infer the future

Compare And Contrast Fission Vs Nuclear Fusion
Fission Vs Fusion In life, energy is an indispensable part of human life. Energy comes from a variety
of sources, such as from the sun, wind, water, and nuclear power. Nuclear energy is a new form of
energy. The nuclear energy have two different types, that is nuclear fission, and nuclear fusion.
Nuclear fission had been found in a long time before, but nuclear fusion is something new to this
world. If I have money, I will chose to fundraiser for the nuclear fusion. Nuclear fission basically is an
atomic decay. This is a process of the atomic nuclei divided into two or more smaller nuclei and
several products. Base on that, people used this process to create nuclear power plants and nuclear
weapons. The advantage of the nuclear fission

Dsm-5 Classification
One major change in the category of the substance related disorders is that DSM 5 uses an overarching
concept substance use disorder rather than two distinguished concepts in DSM IV, which are
substance abuse and substance dependence. As the diagnostic categorization changed, two sets of
criteria 4 aspects for abuse and 7 aspects for dependence are replaced with a single set of criteria 11
aspects for substance use disorder with 3 levels of severity (mild: 2 3, moderate: 4 5, or severe: 6 or
more) sub classification. The contents of criteria are almost same, however, a criterion of legal
problem is omitted and a new criterion that asks craving to use the specific substance is added.
Another change is that DSM 5 classifies 10 classes of substances in addition to 1 addictive disorder
whereas DSM IV TR recognizes 13 classes of substances. For example, DSM 5 puts together
Amphetamine Related and Cocaine Related Disorders into Stimulant Related Disorders with sub
categories (Amphetamine type, Cocaine, or other stimulants). On the other hand, for almost all
substance induced disorders, the same criteria of intoxication and withdrawal are used in both DSM 5
and DSM IV TR (e.g. Alcohol intoxication, and alcohol withdrawal). Recording Procedure. ... Show

Literary Analysis Essay
As human beings, we are changing each and every moment as we are introduced to new ideas, values
and challenges by our surroundings. In Alistair MacLeod s short story, To Everything There Is a
Season , the author depicts the anxieties and reservations of the narrator s transition between
childhood and the adult world. This story also allows the reader to understand the importance of
change in one s life. The story is set on Christmas Day and the weeks preceding, when the whole
family was awaiting for the eldest brother s arrival. By seeing through the author s eyes, we can
understand the turmoil and conflict as he feels he is trapped in between two sides; childhood and
adolescence. Reluctance of changing, Santa Claus ,

The Book Thief And V For Vendetta
Autocracy in a government calls for rebellion due to the lack of control and corruption. As a result the
many representations of significant values are elucidated in the novel The Book Thief by Markus
Zusak and the film V for Vendetta by James McTeigue emphasising the concepts of totalitarianism and
rebellion by subjected governments. The Book Thief parallels with the contextual influences of the
Nazi Party ruled by Adolf Hitler in the 1930s. Whereas V for Vendetta draws a direct correlation from
the horrendous acts in Iraq governed by George Bush subsequent to the infamous attack of 9/11. V for

Essay On The Doll Test
After Martin Luther King Jr. s assassination, white people did not understand what African Americans
had to go through during this time. The main issue was the disconnection between what whites knew
about the racism and what the black had experienced. The Doll Test implemented by the two Doctors
Kenneth and Mamie Clark were interviewing throughout this experience African American children
who could choose between four different types of skin colored dolls. The alarming results were that
the majority of children prefer to choose the white doll, which they indicate as something good and
positive. Dr. Kenneth Clark recalled: The Dolls Test was an attempt on the part of my wife and me to
study the development of the sense of self esteem in children. We worked with Negro children I ll call

for Changes in Market for Live Rock Concerts (1998 2008):
5B. Economists use cross elasticity of demand to determine whether two products are substitutes or
complements. The cross elasticity of demand measures how quantity demanded of one good (albums)
responds to a change in the price for another good (live concert tickets). For example, between 1998

Free albums also encourage consumers to sample an artist s music. In contrast, there are few, if any,
alternatives to a live performance listening to an album is not considered a substitute for a live

Another factor to consider is resources (cash) people who buy less albums have more cash to purchase
a contract ticket.
6A. Economic profit equals net earnings, in the accountant s sense, minus the opportunity costs of
capital and any other inputs supplied by the firm s owners. Bob and Jane s economic profit is different
from their accounting profit. Accounting Profit = Total Revenues Total Costs = $8.0 mil $7.4 mil = $.6

($360,000) = $240,000. As also discussed in 6B, opportunity costs here include the wages they forfeit
to run this business ($300,000),
PLUS a normal rate of return on the $600,000 paid up front for advertising (600,000*(.10)) or
$60,000.
6B. A fixed cost is the cost of an input whose quantity does not rise when output goes up, one that the
firm requires to produce any output at all. The total cost of such indivisible inputs does not change
when the output changes. Any other cost of the firm s operation is called a variable cost.

College Cost Analysis
Do you know how much college costs? In the academic year 2005 2006 to go to a 4 year public school
it was 5,492 per year. Now in the academic year 2015 2016 the cost has risen to 9,410 per year
(Dickler). The price has nearly doubled. College never used to cost that much but then it started to
become more popular and the cost of it has started to go up. This trend is going to continue. The cost
of college is rising and it is becoming more popular.
As the cost of college continues to rise it was not always like that. In the 1870s the cost of college was
$150. Today that equals $2,685.64 (Writers). College started to become more popular when people
were able to make more money per hour if you attended college. The first college opened in 1636 that
was Harvard University. The acceptance rate was 6% (Niche). Many students were not able to get into
college. More colleges began to open and so more students were accepted. Then, everyone started to
go to college so people felt expected to go. In 2008, tuition fees increased 439% since 1982, while
income has only gone up 147% (Writers). People are then not able to afford it since income is not
increasing as fast as college. In an article written by Jessica Dickler it is reported that 57% of

Essay about Guide to Becoming a Jerk
Guide to Becoming a Jerk
Being a jerk can be fun. It gives you a feeling of dominance over others; you are more important then
the rest. You are the wolf among a flock of sheep; people fear you, and therefore look up to you. Being
a jerk is not hard; all you have to do is think about yourself and your own feelings, and forget that
everyone else has emotions. There are various ways of achieving this perception of importance; you
can put people down and belittle them, pretend you re better than everyone, or just be plain mean,
unpolite, and nasty. Sure, there might be some little voice inside saying that you are no better than
anyone else is, but you can drown out that nagging reminder with constant insults to others. Nothing

This will make the other person feel insecure and reluctant to talk to you; the people around you will
either think your comments are funny (they aspire to be a jerk like you), or they will consider you rude
and disgraceful. It doesn t really matter what anyone else thinks though, does it? You are yourself and
no one else; you feel only your feelings and no one else s; so why should you be concerned with
anyone but yourself? You are king in your own mind, and your perception is everything.
If you can t be bothered to be a witty, sarcastic jerk, you can just be a regular, mean jerk. This kind of
jerk is intolerant and impatient (to a higher degree than the other type of jerk), rude, and
unsarcastically mean. The next time someone gives you something or does something for you, don t
say thank you or show gratitude; you should even go so far as to complain about what they gave you
or how they should accomplish things faster. Don t be grateful; if you are grateful, people will think
that they can win your favor with good deeds; that s manipulation. You can t let anyone win your
favor; that would show weakness, and you have to be strong to show that you are of great importance.
Be disrespectful to everyone, and elders and authority figures especially. Respect can also be linked to
weakness, since respecting someone can be taken

Romanticism And Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its
underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to
portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of
the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple
butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When
looking close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the
supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is
an example of Realism because it shows a life of a uneducated ordinary man. Realism comes closer to
understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because it shows a slice of what real life was
like on the frontier. Murlock lived in a simple log house made with one door and one window. The
latter, however, was boarded up nobody could remember a time when it was not. Very few people
knew the secret of the window, or the particulars of the burden the man bore. The grandfather had
lived nearby and relayed the story firsthand of the story behind the uneducated ordinary man s life.
Bierce portrays this actual life of this ordinary man that shows life as it is, with Murlock s ups and
downs, that sometimes he had to shut out the things that could harm him. Suddenly the table shook
beneath his arms, and at the same moment he heard, or fancied that he heard, a light soft step another
sounds as of bare feet upon the floor! His did the best he cloud but with no medical help she died after
three days. He laid her onto the table to attempted to prepare her her body for burial. He methodically
dad what he thought was the order of natural laws. He performed the finishing touches adjusting her
hair. Exhausted, he laid his head on the table and drifted. The author presents this authentic real
situation of a unschooled man that had to face typical fearful days out in the wilderness. Although
some people on the other hand see the story as Realism. Romantic and comes closer to understanding
the life of an uneducated ordinary

  • 3. The Grapes Of Wrath By John Steinbeck And The Grapes Of Wrath The novels The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and Under the Feet of Jesus by Helena Maria Viramontes both explore the plight of migrant farmers in California. Steinbeck tells the story of white migrant workers during the Great Depression and Viramontes tells the story of Mexican migrant workers. The novels deconstruct the perceived California dream in which great wealth can be achieved through hard work by recounting the plights of migrant workers who recognize the illusion and take action against it. Steinbeck s novel portrays the plight of the Joad family, natives of Oklahoma. The Joads, a family of dispossessed farmers, travel to California searching for work after the forces of large scale banking capitalism remove them from their land. They chase the promise of a new beginning and the opportunity to find wealth because of the California dream. Steinbeck narrates the journey of an underclass family achieving the Marxist construction of class consciousness. Class conflict between wage slaves and the owners of the means of production, social alienation through the separation of labor and profit, and dehumanization of workers through the mass commodification of labor all appear in the novel. Class consciousness defines the novel and is the method by which the Joad family is able to rise against the bourgeois and capitalism. The Joads are a member of the proletariat and must work as laborers who are, according to Karl Marx, A class of labourers, who live only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Environmental Effects Of Plastic Bags I decided to write this report after watching a documentary called, Plastic Bags Environmental Impacts on YouTube. The video showed poor innocent animals wrapped up in plastic bags and it made me feel heartbroken. So I wanted to find out what other issues do plastic bags create and if we really need to ban them, or if we need to find other alternatives, or just manage our use of them. Plastic bags have a benefit convenience , as most people nowadays use plastic bags for all sort of things e.g. moving things, reusing for shopping, art and crafts which show people are reusing them seen they are so convenient. My hypothesis is: Plastic bags are causing a problem and together we need to find a solution. My key questions are: What are the issues that plastic bags create? Are their environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic bags? How can we manage the use of plastic bags? What are the issues that plastic bags create? There are a wide range of issues around plastic bags, including impacts on animal welfare. According to an article I found on healthguidance.org One of the greatest problems is that an estimated 300 million plastic bags end up in the Atlantic Ocean alone. So just think of the poor sea life that go hunting and mistake a floating plastic bag for a meal and end up suffocating and experiencing a slow, painful death. 86% of all known species of sea turtles have had reported problems of entanglement or ingestion of marine debris including plastic bags (post ... • 7. Mass Destruction And Death In William Golding s Lord Of... Humans kill. Whether it be animals, insects or people, humans kill. Human look at others and use the justice system to try and fix what other humans have done and this is the way they are punished. They are punished in a functioning society with rules and laws, but when all that is stripped away what are you left with? Mass destruction and humans that kill. Lord of the Flies published in 1954 and written by Nobel Prize winning author, William Golding, portrays the violence and eradication of a functioning society through young boys stranded on an island. Golding uses the symbol fire and forgetfulness of the need for it to develop the theme of the loss of society and creation of uncivilized destruction. He uses the character Ralph as a connection to the fire to imply the civilization seen in the story. Ralph as chief in the beginning of Lord of the Flies uses fire to fuel his main goal as a leader, which is to get back home. He treats the fire as a necessity and one of the most important assets of being on the island. Ralph uses the smoke from the fire as a safety net that keeps him comfortable and with the hope of getting home. And we ll be responsible for keeping a lookout too. If we see a ship out there...we ll put green branches on. Then there ll be more smoke (Golding 43). He emphasizes the need for the smoke as he sees this as one of the only ways that they will ever be rescued. Ralph is seen to be still full of hope for life and escaping. He uses the symbol fire ... • 8. Persuasive Essay On Airport Security Airport security in the United States has been a controversial topic since the terrorist attacks of September 11th. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was established to ensure the safety and security of US airports. New regulations such as taking off shoes and full body scanners soon became the new normal in airports across the country. Travelers voiced concerns and complaints over the heightened security measures, arguing that they invade privacy and are unethical. On the other hand, Israel s Ben Gurion Airport takes a very different approach to tackle terrorism in airports. Instead of high tech machines, the airport focuses on the use of intelligence data and profiling to effectively identify terrorists. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only other option for passengers uncomfortable with the full body scanners is a full body pat down, which can be just if not more as troublesome. There is anecdotal evidence that passengers feel that pat‐down procedures are embarrassing and invasive because they involve screeners touching people near sensitive body areas. Although very specific guidelines and boundaries have been established by national airport authorities, inappropriate pat‐down searches are still reported. (Bello Salau 666) The TSA, however, tries to assure passengers that the images produced are blurred which means the passengers being screened cannot be recognized. It further emphasized that the images are not recorded. In response to this, the Islamic Human Right Commission (IHRC), a non profit research and advocacy organization based in London, says The fact that a person s facial features cannot be identified does not mean that the images are any less invasive. The images still show the person s body in graphic detail where intimate piercing, catheters and all the parts of the person s body (including those that a person would normally wish to keep private) are seen by the screener. This is gross invasion of privacy. If these images are truly not archived, the question is where is the images uploaded on the internet are gotten from. (Bello Salau 668) Furthermore, these full body scanning devices may not even be effective. A team of researchers at UC San Diego, University ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Had it not been for the amazing Bruce Lee and his incredible movies in the early 1970s, it s arguable whether or not the martial arts film genre would have ever penetrated and influenced mainstream western cinema audiences the way it has over the past three decades. The influence of Asian martial arts cinema can be seen today in so many other film genres including comedies, action, drama, science fiction, horror and animation.....and they all have their roots in the phenomenon that was Bruce Lee Bruce Lee was born Lee Juan Fan in November 1940 in San Francisco, the son of Lee Hoi Chuen, a singer with the Cantonese Opera. • 36. Essay about Guide to Becoming a Jerk Guide to Becoming a Jerk Being a jerk can be fun. It gives you a feeling of dominance over others; you are more important then the rest. You are the wolf among a flock of sheep; people fear you, and therefore look up to you. Being a jerk is not hard; all you have to do is think about yourself and your own feelings, and forget that everyone else has emotions. There are various ways of achieving this perception of importance; you can put people down and belittle them, pretend you re better than everyone, or just be plain mean, unpolite, and nasty. Sure, there might be some little voice inside saying that you are no better than anyone else is, but you can drown out that nagging reminder with constant insults to others. Nothing replaces ... The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When looking close the story becomes clear.
