How do we know when our students are learning?Assessment of student learning is necessary to determine students’ strengths and weaknesses so that we can determine if students have learned the objectives and developed their skills. During the next year we will be providing faculty with resources to help them develop meaningful formative assessments to enhance their instruction. Faculty will be expected to include a formative assessment within each course and syllabus. Formative assessments help faculty determine how to modify their instruction from week to week to meet students’ needs. It is an assessment for learning. In contrast, summative assessments, such as course finals, are an assessment of learning. While both assessment approaches are necessary, our focus this year is to increase the use of formative assessments in our classes to improve learning. Fook & Sidhu (2010) succinctly captures the importance of assessment: “Many learning institutes have forgotten the ultimate purpose of the assessment actually is not only to prove but also to improve students’ learning” (p. 154).

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

How to Build a Module in Odoo 17 Using the Scaffold MethodCeline George
Odoo provides an option for creating a module by using a single line command. By using this command the user can make a whole structure of a module. It is very easy for a beginner to make a module. There is no need to make each file manually. This slide will show how to create a module using the scaffold method.
This slide is special for master students (MIBS & MIFB) in UUM. Also useful for readers who are interested in the topic of contemporary Islamic banking.

ASSIGNMENT #3: Internet-based Project Work
• TOPIC: SAVE THE PLANET (the unit of work will be based on a number of topics such as pollution,
endangered animals, ecology, the responsible use of different sources of energy, water, …)
• LEVEL OF STUDENTS: intermediate
• NUMBER OF LESSONS: 3 lessons.
• OBJECTIVES:
Students will be able to:
- Identify and discuss different types of pollution, their sources and their consequences.
- Explain why it is important to keep the environment free of pollution.
- Read and comprehend different material based on environmental issues.
- Apply their prior knowledge on ecology and pollution to enlarge their work, and search the web in order to
know more about them.
- Have fun while using technology.
LESSON ONE
• WARMER:
The teacher will give out different brochures related to ecology and pollution issues and will ask students to give
them a quick look. She will ask them different questions in order to activate students’ prior, background and
cultural knowledge of the subject. For example:
- How many kinds of pollution do you know? Can you name them?
- In which ways is water, air or land contaminated?
- Do you save energy at home? Doing what, for example? Do you think it is useful? Why?
- Do you know what animals are in danger of extinction? Why?
- Do you know how rubbish is classified? Why does that help us to recycle? Do you recycle at home? What
things/objects?
- What can we do to help our planet and ecology?
Then, the teacher will ask students to have a look at the brochures again. She will ask students now to read
them and to pay attention to the way in which information is organized, if there are pictures, graphs, etc. She
will explained learners that they will have to do some exercises and extra research on the subject to create their
own brochures to raise ecological awareness in their community.
2. • WEB:
Students will work on the following g webquest: www.zunal.com/webquest.php?w=72065
TITLE: SAVE THE PLANET
Description: The following Webquest is aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues. Following the
process steps, students will have to prepare brochures as final tasks.
Grade Level: intermediate
Curriculum: Foreign Language
Keywords: environment, pollution, recycling, endangered animals, energy saving
INTRODUCTION: Our planet Earth is sick. Pollution, abusive energy consumption, and deforestation are all
issues that are making the temperature of the Earth go up every day. And with our planet, many animals and
living beings are suffering. We will suffer too if we do not take action now. We have the opportunity to save our
planet. We must do it!
TASK: Imagine you are a member of an ecological organization. Create a brochure to raise awareness about the
problems that are affecting our planet. The brochure should contain information on the topic of pollution,
endangered animals, energy consumption and recycling. You may also want to add some pictures, drawings, charts
or graphics. Invite people to take action and help our planet Earth!
PROCESS:
1- Visit this link and listen to the story. Then, make a chart including the places mentioned and why they are
contaminated.
British Council (n.d). Planet Earth: http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/short-stories/planet-earth
3. 2- Get the facts. Use this links to get information that will be useful for your brochures.
Mayntz , Melissa (n.d) Kinds of pollution: http://greenliving.lovetoknow.com/Types_of_Pollution
Harrison Paul (2010) http://www.benefits-of-recycling.com/index.html
4. You may need to consult a dictionary for some definitions:
Cambridge University Press (2010): http://dictionary.cambridge.org/
3- Let’s have some fun! With the information you already have, try to sort out rubbish.
British Council (n.d). Clean and green. http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/fun-with-english/clean-and-
green
5. 4- Follow this link to test yourself. You should include some of the tips provided in the game in your brochure to
encourage people to protect the planet.
British Council (n.d.) How green are you?

5- Design your brochure!
EVALUATION: Click on the attachment to see how you will be evaluated. Remember to do your self-assessment.
CONCLUSION: MAKE EVERYDAY EARTH DAY!
TEACHER PAGE: lesson plan attached
LESSON TWO
Students will have half of lesson one and lesson two to do the Webquest.
LESSON THREE
• WHAT NEXT:
6. Student will now go back to the classroom in order to prepare the brochures. Once the brochures are finished,
students will have to present them orally to the rest of the class, explaining what information and pictures or
graphs they have selected and in what way their brochure can help to raise awareness about environmental
issues. After all the students have presented their work, they will make copies to give out in the school.
