In order to begin the process of becoming an expert there are a two qualifications you must meet first. Proof of Completion of MyPyriamid Blast Off Game Completion of MyPyriamid Worksheet for your own diet Once these two qualifications are met, you will pair up with ONE other student, and together create a brochure using Microsoft Publisher. The nutrition information on the brochure will be based on a fictional character you and your partner create. The fictional character must be realistic and fall into your age group. An example would be creating a brochure based on a young girl named Sally’s needs. She is a 12 year old girl who is actively involved in dance classes. You will be responsible for knowing the six major food groups, what is included in each one, and the daily recommended intake amounts for a person your age. These standards include: 1.8.1- Analyze the relationship between healthy behaviors and personal health. 3.8.2- Access valid health information from home, school and community. 6.8.1- Asses personal health practices 6.8.3- Apply strategies and skills needed to attain a personal health goal. It may help to go through the PowerPoint once in the lab, so students can follow along as you explain their tasks. Using the Process segment of this presentation, explain the process of assignment and the time restrictions. Allow 20-25 minutes for research and exploring of the provided websites. Encourage students to take notes on similarities they see and other important information they can use along the way. Allow students to work on the Blast Off game for up 30 minutes. Tell students to take the game seriously, to work hard to make the correct choices, and to try and complete the game the first time around. Allow students about 20 minutes to complete their diet worksheet. When they have completed the two assignment remind students to turn them in and then choose a partner to work with.
