Thesis About Marijuana
Discussion
Marijuana, also called weed, herb, pot, grass, bud, ganja, Mary Jane, and a vast number of other
slang terms, is a greenish grey mixture of the dried, shredded leaves and flowers of the hemp plant

The first direct reference to a cannabis product as a psychoactive agent dates from 2737 BC, in the
writings of the Chinese emperor Shen Nung. The focus was on it s powers as a medication, for
reheutmatism, gout, malaria, and oddly enough, absent mindedness. http://www.narconon.org/drug

Throughout the 19th century, Americans used the word cannabis when referring to the plant.
Pharmaceutical companies like Bristol Myers Squib and Eli Lilly used cannabis in medicines that
are widely sold in United States pharmacies to treat insomnia, migraines, and rheutmatism. After an
upheaval of the war, scores of Mexican peasants migrated to the United States borders, and they
brought with them their popular form of intoxication, which they called Mariguana .
Upon arrival, they encountered anti immigrant fears throughout the Southwest prejudices that
intesified after the Great depression. In an effort to marginalize the new migrant population, the
first anti cannabis law were targeted at them at the term Marijuana , says Amanda Reiman

ABSTRACT
In our country railways have become prominent. Our system consists of solution for reservation,
planning and managing railway transportation. It includes the idea of seat selection, indirect route
finding to provide convenience to the users while planning trips. Apart from this we deal to
provide client side facilities using algorithms such as SHA 512 for security purpose. It may also
provide avoidance over simultaneous registration, authentication and blocking of about two or
more client assessment at the same time. The front end consists of HTML web pages and Backend
consist of PHP and loosely coupled with Front End. It also includes database connectivity by using
MYSQL.
1.INTRODUCTION
This project is nothing but as advanced version of currently running Railway Reservation System
used by IRCTC. The passenger can individually select his seat as per the preferred berth unlike
the current system which provides seat as per the availability. The transparency in existing system
is compromised means one can illegally book the ticket and sell them at higher price. In our
system we overcome this problem by providing more security by using

Attractiveness of locations, quality of rooms amp; services, and company s global operations are
some of the key criteria for hotels. Hilton already has a strong presence in the U.S and is
expanding its global operations through acquisitions. For example, Hilton acquired the U.K based
Hilton International in February 2006 to establish a footprint in the U.K. It also signed a multi year
agreement with a leading resort real estate developer in Thailand, Destination Properties, to manage

Bullying And Teasing
Bullying and Teasing: No Laughing Matter
Unfortunately, teasing is often part of growing up almost every child experiences it. But it isn t
always as innocuous as it seems. Words can cause pain. Teasing becomes bullying when it is
repetitive or when there is a conscious intent to hurt another child. It can be verbal bullying
(making threats, name calling), psychological bullying (excluding children, spreading rumors), or
physical bullying (hitting, pushing, taking a child s possessions).
How Bullying Starts
Bullying behavior is prevalent throughout the world and it cuts across socio economic, racial
/ethnic, and cultural lines. Researchers estimate that 20 to 30 percent of school age children are
involved in bullying incidents, as either perpetrators or victims. Bullying can begin as early as
preschool and intensify during transitional stages, such as starting school in 1st grade or going into
middle school.
Victims of bullying are often shy and tend to be physically weaker than their peers. They may also
have low self esteem and poor social skills, which makes it hard for them to stand up for
themselves. Bullies consider these children safe targets because they usually don t retaliate.
Effects of Bullying
If your child is the victim of bullying, he may suffer physically and emotionally, and his
schoolwork will likely show it. Grades drop because, instead of listening to the teacher, kids are
wondering what they did wrong and whether anyone will sit with them at lunch. If

Fifteen By William Stafford Analysis
Fifteen, by William Stafford is a free verse poem about age. In the poem he talks about being a
fifteen year old boy in which he refers to himself as South on the ridge on Seventeenth (Stafford
Line 1). Where he means that he is not yet seventeen, but he is almost there. He was taking a
walk one day during the summer when he came across a motorcycle with the engine still running.
He picks up the motorcycle and observed it with much awe. He was very fond of the motorcycle,
he admired it very much. He imagined taking off on the motorcycle, then in the grass next to him,
he saw the owner of the motorcycle. But instead of taking off on the motorcycle he helped the
owner up, then realizing that he was in a motorcycle crash. The owner greeted... Show more content

Stafford s idea was very vivid. It started out in the first line of the poem. South of the bridge of
Seventeenth (Stafford Line 1), which I stated previously. He described where he was on the
roads, while also making a play on words by describing his age stance. He is a fifteen year old
boy, as many can tell by the name of the poem. He farther asserted his idea with this initial
opening line, stating that he is under seventeen years old, but he is close to crossing the bridge
to being seventeen. Following after, more into the poem he talks about discovering a
motorcycle on the side of the road with the engine still running. He grabs the motorcycle and
grasps the handles as if he is about to take off. I admired all that pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks,
the demure headlights fringed where it lay (Stafford Line 6 8). He became particularly attracted
to the motorcycle, as if it were an actual human, like a friend. The overall theme clarify s the
aging process, he is fifteen, but closer to seventeen. Every event in the poem shows his still
younger, naive side. The naive feelings comply to the fact that he is only fifteen. The line I was
fifteen was repeated several times to push the theme into the readers

Roger Chillingworth In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet...
Novels are filled with diverse characters, and each of them are chosen favorites for different
reasons. Usually the antagonist of the work, villains are favored by readers for the reason that they
keep the plot moving. The definition of a villain is, a character whose evil actions or motives are
important to the plot ( Villain ). In Nathaniel Hawthornes piece, The Scarlet Letter, his character
Roger Chillingworth does not fall short of this criteria and is most certainly a prime example of a
villain as he forms the rest of his life around seeking revenge on his wife and her partner in adultery:
Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. The nature of Roger Chillingworth s villainy enhances meaning in
The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne through its symbolism, physical and behavioral
characteristics, and actions.

believes that estranged husband is trying to poison her and refuses to drink the potion. At this
act, he assures her that he wants her to live so that he can have his revenge. He continues to ask
her about who her lover may be, but she refuses to reveal his identity. Chillingworth makes her
promise that she will not give away that he is actually her husband and he grins maniacally at
her compliance. At the end of their visit, even Hester accuses him of being the Black Man , or
the Devil in disguise. In response to her remark, he implies that it is not the well being of her soul
that he is after and that he is really only after her secret lover (Hawthorne, 75 77). Instead of
punishing Hester directly, he decides to go on a roundabout way and attacking her indirectly:

The Characteristics Of King Oedipus The King As A Tragedy
Oedipus the King by Sophocles is more than just a basic tragedy. It contains a complete
combination of all the features of a tragedy. I find Sophocles King Oedipus interesting. Not because
of the whole incest thing, the killing of the father, and the sleeping with the mother. I am still too
naive to appreciate the significance of that. I find SophoclesKing Oedipusfascinating because as I
read it with attention, I realized how amazingly hard it was to write. Even though it s a Greek
tragedyand the reading is a little hard to understand. But, once someone gets inside the story line,
its captivates one s attention. I admit I enjoy less the content of the play than Sophocles writing
skill. When to retell a well known story, one has to make the story enough convincing without
relying on the end of the story. one must dislocate the point of the story from its end to rest. By
doing that the story will not lose its appeal. One has to be a creator. So, you have to twist the
whole story in such an irresistible way that it is compelling despite the fact that the outcome of the
story is known. How do Sophocles solve this problem? By making King Oedipus the central
character and unintentionally the architect of his own downfall. The strengths that once lead him to
solve the riddle later served as his own destruction. To make a story more appropriate to the stage,
which is dealing with flashbacks, forward moving energy of the story must accommodate with the
backward references that

International banks would decrease in size due to the lowered flow of U.S. dollars and reduce
the chances for poor investments. The other two scenarios result in a continued global crisis, as
countries such as China may remain focused on exports and foreign investors holding the U.S.
dollar may lose confidence in the American financial system causing a rise in the cost of capital.
These situations are likely based on the Triffin dilemma, or the loss of confidence in the American
dollar. According to Ahamed, The risk of such a situation is clearly on the minds of Chinese policy
makers. Zhou Xiaochuan, the Governor of the People s Bank of China, explicitly referred to Triffin
s dilemma in a speech this March on the need for reform of the international monetary system
(2009).
Direct Foreign Investments
Deardorff (2001) stated that, direct foreign investments refer to the particular countries and kinds
of countries toward which a country s exports are sent, and from which its imports are brought, in
contrast to the commodity composition of its exports and imports. Besides, direct foreign
investments also can be defined as the situation in which a foreign investor owns10% or more of
the ordinary shares or voting power of a local company. Thus, the pattern that the direct foreign
investments follow is that of a bilateral trade.

Air Quality Pollution
To begin, Hillsborough County in Florida is home to downtown Tampa which is one of the major
cities in the state. With having big cities in your local areas comes with some side effects. Tampa is
related to many air quality issues in the state. Tampa is a continuously growing city, as people
relocate to the area, many things must happen to accommodate the growth in population. Most of
which contributes to of the air quality standards in our area because of the need for additional
roads, and numerous new housing developments to be built, increasing the amount of power plants
to power the many new houses. To continue, these contribute to massive air quality issues for Tampa
. The number of vehicles increase as more people move to the area, as well as big truck needed to
bring in good and supplies for the increased population. This is a major concern because back in
2000 Floridavoted to eliminate the emissions testing for all vehicles, by discontinuing testing there
is no way to control vehicles which expel excessive amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Issues arise in construction zones because all the big construction equipment emit lots of pollution
into our air, and by continuing to build roads and construct his rise building we are adding to the
poor air quality instead of reducing it. In addition to this earlier in 2017 Florida suffered a severe
drought, resulting in numerous wildfires spread throughout the state. This resulted in higher than

Genetic Down Syndrome
The genetic structure that humans possess is complex, each individual s genetic makeup is
unique and different, yet functions similarly. However, not all people are gifted with a perfectly
normal genetic structure. A person may suffer from genetic defects, which are irregularities in the
genome. In the field of biology, genetic aberrations are not rare cases. According to a surveillance
system called Metropolitan Atlanta Congenital Defects Program, genetic birth defects, affect
approximately 3% of childbirths in the United States. (MMWR, 2008) This means that over
120,000 newborn babies are affected by genetic defects in a span of one year, in the United States

Around 5300 babies with Down syndrome are born in the United States each year, and
approximately 200,000 people in this country have the condition. (de Graaf G, Buckley F, Skotko
BG, 2016). While Down syndrome cannot be inherited, the number of babies with Down
syndrome born each year is alarming. Despite the fact that Down syndrome can be detected before
birth, there is no known way to cure it. As such, the parents whose child have been diagnosed to
have Down syndrome have to decide whether to keep the child or not.
Parenting has never been easy, and it is made harder if the child is affected by Down syndrome.
Most of the time, when parents are informed that their child has Down syndrome, they are
stricken with grief, depression, hopelessness, and the likes. (Preidt, 2010). Having a child
affected by such mental illnesses may make it hard for parents to deal with their children, since
any shortcomings may lead to a miserable life for their child. But even with Down syndrome, a
child is still a child, and can still be brought up to live a happy life if parented correctly.
This study aims to relay the experiences of a parent who has a child with Down syndrome to
people who are not aware of what they go through. The researchers seek to improve the general
knowledge of the public about having a kid with Down

A Brief History of Harriet Jacobs
As a slave and as a runaway, Harriet Jacobs suffered more psychological abuse than physical
abuse. Harriet Jacobs had to withstand massive amounts of pain and psychological torture due to
her place in society as a slave. Jacobs does not leave out the physical aspect of the suffering,
however, she focuses more on the spiritual and emotional aspect of the slaveryage. Although Jacobs
had a relatively easy life in comparison to other slaves, she was deprived from basic human
rights and necessities, witnessed human beings resolve to corruption and be treated like animals,
and is sexually abused. The mental scars left behind are very harsh. Harriet Jacobs was deprived
from basic human rights and necessities. Since Jacobs grew up in a society were African
Americans were inferior, they were objectified rather than be treated in a humane matter. Slaves
were taken away the idea that they were human. ...they thought he had spoiled his children, by
teaching them to feel that they were human beings. This was blasphemous doctrine for a slave to
teach; y presumptuous in him, and dangerous to the masters. (Pg. 12). Jacobs describes how slave
owners declared slaves who tried and spread the idea that they were worth something in society,
dangerous and immediately took violent action against them to suppress those thoughts. This was
dangerous to the slave owners because they believed that rebellion might be initiated. Jacobs was
psychologically affected by this, because she was

Black Tuesday is cited to be the day that the Stock Market Crashed on October 19, 1929, and it is

During this time period consumer spending declined, unemployment increased, and a severe

Women were employed on FERA, Federal Emergency Relief Administrationprojects, which were

the New Deal programs and directly assisted women was the Work Progress Administration. The
WPA was created in 1935 and hired single women, widows, or women with disabled or absent
husbands (Kennedy 625). While the WAP employed men in unskilled manual labor job, women
were assigned sewing projects. They were in charge of making clothing, blankets, and other
necessities that were given to charities and hospitals (Ware 43). Women were also hired in the
school lunch programs created by the WPA and in its Federal Art project, which gave 162 women
a job painting murals and creating statues for the newly built post office buildings and court
houses (Ware 47). The New Deal policies, while their main target was employing and benefitting
the male population, with the help of Eleanor Roosevelt, employment for women also increased
and provided a foundation for Women s Rights Movement (Woolner). Furthermore, before the New

Beloved Jungle Imagery
In Toni Morrison s Beloved, Stamp Paid considers the impact of slavery on all of those involved.
He uses references to an untamed jungle in order to convey the concept spreading corruption.
Morrison utilizes threatening diction through jungle imagery in order to establish a theme of
corruption caused through slavery.
Morrison uses jungle imagery to represent the spreading corruption from slavery. When addressing
the jungle that white people think lives within their slaves, Stamp Paid describes it as Swift
unnavigable waters, winging screaming baboons, sleeping snakes, red gums read for their sweet
white blood . Here, Morrison uses the wild jungle imagery to display the unkempt and untamable

When Stamp Paid discusses the effects of the jungle/slavery on white people he states, Touched
them every one . Here, a syntax is utilized that eliminates the subject of the sentence that is
performing the action of touching . The elimination of the subject within this syntax acts to convey
the jungle/slavery as threatening due to its vagueness, as it is not even given a title within the
sentence. The perceived threat of the unnamed subject in conjunction with the intrusive diction of
the verb that it is enacting, touching , acts to emphasize the invasive nature of the threat of the
jungle/slavery on white people. Stamp Paid utilizes the same syntax when further discussing its
impact on white people: Changed and altered them . The syntax here eliminates the subject as well,
providing the same sense of a threat due to the vague address of it. This syntax with the further
threatening diction of changed and altered being performed by the unnamed subject causes it to be

Dodgers won by 3 1, all Los Angeles fans got excited, think that Dodgers will get the world
series. However, in game 2 and 3 Houston made good adjustment and won booth. Dodgers felt
that would not be that easy. And they come back and won the game 4. So was tie series and they
were heading to game 5. Game 5 was the import game because however that wins that game
would need to win one more game, and the pressure in game 6 will go to the time that lost
because if they lost again was over. So, in the game 5 was the most intense game that I ever see.
Dodgers was losing by 3 run on the top of 9th inning, last chance to dodgers. And Puig hit a 2
runs homer with one out. And on 2 outs runner at 3rd Taylor hit a base hit and they tied. Houston
could not score in the bottom 9th, so the game went to the extra innings. Dodgers could score so
was the Houston turn. Was 2 outs runner at 2nd and 1st and Bregman at the plate. He hit a base
hit at the left field and the runner at 2nd score, game over. Was a great game because in total
were 7 home runs, the most number of homer in the world series game ever. Game 6 dodgers
must win if not they were out, so they won by 3 1. Game 7, the last game, Houston start in front
putting 5 runners in the first 2 inning, and Dodgers only score at the 6th. Game over 5 1
Houston. As a Dodger fan I was cheering for the Dodgers win the World Serie. All the people in
LA was excited for it, everybody wearing a dodger clothes, was another vibe. Unfortunately, they
lost, but I hope they can take all the postseason games to grow and be ready for the next year. And
in my opinion Houston was playing better then Dodgers. And after the hurricane in Huston I

Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Review: Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people
over the age of 50. Every ten years after the age of 50 the prevalence of this disease increases
exponentially. Many different factors contribute to the development of AMD including genetic,
environment, and metabolic functions. Aside from smoking, abnormal blood pressure, and an
unhealthy diet low in fruits and vegetables, many more studies are concluding that similar
inflammatory and oxidative processes seen in other age related diseases are also playing a key
role in the development of AMD. This disease affects the central areas of the retinaand choroid. In
return central vision is impaired while peripheral vision is usually not lost. AMD is seen in two
different forms, the earlier nonneovascular (dry) type and the more advanced neovascular (wet)
type. Each form has its own specific pathology and unique characteristics that set them apart. Fatty,
protein deposits called drusens may be the key risk factor in understanding dry AMD pathology,
progression, and treatment. Once the more advanced wet AMD is diagnosed, pathology and
treatment are targeted around the formation and destruction of abnormal blood vessels,
characteristic of the wet AMD eye. The increasing prevalence of AMD has influenced more
investigation into what factors can be modulated to prevent the onset or to stop the progression of
AMD. This text will discuss the pathology of drusens and the role of inflammationand

Traditional Burgers on the Grill
If you want to enjoy a grilled burger on your indoor grill, you can cook with lean hamburger. The
type of the seasonings that you use will matter for the calorie count, too. We suggest using dry
seasonings that won t add many calories. Salt and pepper are simple ingredients that can add an
incredible amount of flavor. After the meat is cooked, add vegetables and onions for a great burger
that doesn t need a ton of condiments.
Instead of using hamburger or adding pork to the mixture, you can use turkey burger for a lighter
alternative to burger meat. You can add the same seasonings to the turkey and have a flavorful
burger that will definitely have less fat and calories.
Either way, the grill will pull the fat and grease away from the meat and channel it down into the
drip tray where you won t have to worry about putting that grease into your body.
Pork Grilling
Any cut of pork that has loin in the name is one that has less fat. For example, pork tenderloin is
one of the leanest parts of the meat. Country style ribs have less calories than baby back or spare
ribs, too. That s because country style ribs have a dry rub instead of smearing barbecue sauce on the

She was very pretty when she was a young girl. She was educated like every Chinese woman
used to be: To be obedient, to honor one s parents, one s husband and to try to please him and his
family. Ying Ying was not taught to use her own digression and make her own waythrough life.
The result of this education was a disaster due to the differences in values between the two
cultures. Ying Ying realized that her marriage was a mistake when her husband left her for
another woman. Her love for him turned to hate and she killed her unborn baby. She felt great
remorse for this and considered herself a murderer. She later remarried a gentleman by the name of
St. Clair. With St. Clair she had a daughter. After her second son, which was her third child, died at
birth, Ying Ying had a mental breakdown. She saw his death as a punishment for the murdering her
first son.
Ying Ying became passive and lifeless after her second son died. She kept the fact that she felt
responsible for her second sons death a secret from her husband and daughter, Lena. As shown in
this example, Ying Ying had Chinese cultural values in an American society. This produces the
conflict between cultures. Ying Ying becomes so passive that she lets her husband make all of her
decisions for her.

The Physics of Bridges Essay
Physics of Bridges
The physics behind bridges is more complex than first meets the eye. To assure that a bridge is well
supported many concepts must be understood and used in the correct manner.
What is a bridge?
A bridge is a complex structure allowing passage across an obstacle: a structure that is built above
and across a river, road, or other obstacle to allow people or vehicles to cross it.
Bridge forms
There are four major forms of bridges: beam, truss, arch, and suspension.
A beam bridge, also known as a girder bridge, contains a horizontal beam supported by 2 piers at
each end. The beam pushes down on the piers, which weakens the overall bridge. These simplistic
bridges are the shortest of all types due to the lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Above the bridge, a structure of the same pattern is placed to support the bridge from above. At
the ends of each bridge, there are two similar trusses. This ensures that the bridge stays together,
even when large amounts of weights cross it. By allowing more weight to cross, these bridges
can be longer than beam bridges (they can be up to 500 meters). Forces are the focus of these
bridges; each bar exerts a pushing or pulling force without bending. These forces allows the
lightweight bridge to stay sturdy without collapsing as each steel bar pushes or pulls in the correct
direction. Due to this stability, these bridges are often found over places with unstable ground.
Anything from cars to trains are able to cross over these types of bridges without issues.
There are 4 major concepts in building a bridge that builders must pay attention to; span type,
material of the bridge, the placement of the travel surface in relation to the structure, and the form
of the bridge. When considering all of these concepts, builders can effectively construct a safe and
sturdy bridge.
Newton s 3rd Law
One of the most vital concepts in bridge construction is Newton s 3rd Law. This law states: For
every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

recommended for all documents that will be published as read only or as forms with active fields.
Norton Internet Security is recommended with a 3 year subscription for updates to protect against
malware. A UPS (one for each workstation) will protect both hardware and software from the
common occurrence of power dips and surges that can cause damage and require maintenance and
repair. The cost for each workstation with all the items I have discussed is $1500.00 U.S.
In order to save on monthly expenses and decrease maintenance costs I recommend sourcing both
of these requirements from the same vendor. An ADSL premium service will meet the needs of
the new business while also staying below the monthly budget constraints. It will provide Internet

A PERSONALISED INDUCTION WILL ALWAYS BE MORE EFFECTIVE
Always is a metaphor, therefore it is a given and will happen. The title of this discussion leads to
the suggestion that the personalised induction will always be more effective, however, I am
inclined to disagree that this statement is true. Always is a metaphor, therefore it is a given and
will happen. In some clients this may be true, but not always. The type of client, the type of
hypnotherapy required and the state of mind of the client will also have factors to play. A
personalised induction allows for a more personal approach but in many cases this may not be
possible.

Our brain will externalise instructions that it has internally stored and so people should behave and
react outwardly to what they are thinking internally, but we tend not to because of inhibitions. Our
internal world tends to be far more exciting than our external personas therefore by accessing it via
hypnosis we should be able to change this and lead just as exciting an outside world.
Our brains create our mental state, we can think ourselves into a state of mind. For example, your
body may be exhausted during exercise but if your brain keeps repeating that you can continue
then you can force your body to carry on.
In the early 1970s a student of psychology, Richard Bandler and an assistant professor of
linguistics, John Grinder identified that all humans have a series of modalities. All humans have a
preference for a specific sense or modality which we are born with and which is predominant and
they use this more than their other modalities. Each of the modalities has representations in the
person s physiology, language, behaviour and eye movement. Most people primarily define their
world in a visual, auditory or kinaesthetic way; but there are other modalities which include
olfactory (smell), gustatory (taste) and digital/audio (internal dialogue).
Hypnotherapists using this method conduct a preliminary interview to define their client s
modality. The type of induction consequently

Theme Of Figurative Language In To Kill A Mockingbird
A. Juxtaposition A literary technique in which two or more ideas, places, characters and their
actions are placed side by side in a narrative or a poem for the purpose of developing comparisons
and contrasts. Ex. O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek
of night Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope s ear;
B. Imagery To use figurative language to represent objects, actions, and ideas in such a way that it
appeals to our physical senses. Ex. Brookfield he had liked, almost from the beginning. He
remembered that day of his preliminary interview sunny June, with the air full of flower scents and
the plick plock of cricket on the pitch. Brookfield was playing Barnhurst, and one of the Barnhurst
boys, a chubby little fellow, made a brilliant century. Queer that a thing like that should stay in the
memory so clearly.
C. Motif An object or idea that repeats itself throughout a literary work. Ex. The central idea of
the coexistence of good and evil in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird is supported by several
motifs. Lee strengthens the atmosphere by a motif of Gothic details i.e. recurrent images of
gloomy and haunted settings, supernatural events, full moon etc. Another motif in the narrative is
the small town life of Maycomb, which depicts goodness and pleasantness in life.
D. Irony A figure of speechin which words are used in such a way that their intended meaning is
different from the actual meaning of the words. Ex. Shakespeare employs this verbal irony in
Julius Caesar, Act I, Scene II: CASSIUS: Tis true this god did shake. Cassius, despite knowing the
mortal flaws of Caesar, calls him this god .
E. Metonymy A figure of speech that replaces the name of a thing with the name of something else
with which it is closely associated. Ex. The given lines are from Shakespeare s Julius Caesar Act I.
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. Mark Antony uses ears to say that he wants the
people present there to listen to him attentively. It is a metonymy because the word ears replaces
the concept of attention.
F. Hyperbole A figure of speech that involves exaggeration of ideas for the sake of emphasis. Ex.

Executive s Emotional Intelligence, Insight, And...
Executive s emotional intelligence (EI), insight, and authority aptitudes have a clear connection to
their execution. New research demonstrates that an executive s passionate style drives other
people s inclinations and practices (Goleman, Boyatzis, McKee, 2015). Only in recent years has
there emerged a scientific model of the emotional mind that explains how so much of what we do
can be emotionally driven. Individuals can be so reasonable at one moment and so irrational the
next. Emotions can be experienced and deployed intelligently and skillfully or not so intelligent and
skillfully (Goleman, 2005). The skillthat allows one to understand, implement and use emotions is
called emotional intelligence(Goleman, 2005).
For the most part, incredible leaders know how their leadership style impacts their followers, and
this knowledge makes them great leaders. Genuinely incredible leaders recognize, comprehend and
deal with their feelings, as well as knowing what they can do with individuals in an exceptionally
engaging manner. Motivating and inspiring others is paramount to effective leadership (Kotter,

importance of having compassion, self awareness, and respect to communicating effectively with

Muromachi Period Essay

I was quick to understand that pediatric neurology is not one where there is a fast cure, no
single antibiotic to resolve a bacterial sinus infection. Most patients who come seeking care will
have chronic, disabling disorders, even something as simple as a headache, and if it s not
chronic, it will have been for an acute etiology that leaves devastating effects. Most importantly,
I understand that as a pediatric neurologist, I would be helping people even when there is no
cure, a burden to some, but a task I wholeheartedly embrace. My experiences as a teacher already
taught me how to persevere approaching complex students coming from different backgrounds
whose academic struggles were rooted in family issues; they needed holistic approaches with an
array of resources for support. I continue to develop these schools, but I believe my compassion
is what sets me apart from other applicants. I not only want to provide the best quality care and
treatment options available for these patients, but I also want to be there to communicate with
families and bolster their support for my patient. I know this to be crucial in the pursuit of
improving recovery and better well being for patients. I possess the skills necessary to enter this
incredible field, and I am the person you want to care for your patients and speak to families and

Genetically And Modified Dairy Cattle Essay
Cows produce a protein in their milk called BLG and many infants are allergic to this protein.
Two to three hundred infants are allergic to cow s milk, and BLG allergies are seemingly a large
part of this. Various organizations are trying to investigate ways to manipulate the genetic material
in the modified dairy cattle with the main goal of producing milk that doesn t contain the lethal
BLG protein. Daisy is a genetically modified cloned cow and whom does not produce milk
containing the BLG protein but does however have the genefor it. But the mRNA for the BLG
protein has become nonfunctional. Once the protein has been manipulated the cow containing
the modified gene is cloned to produce a calf with the same genetic material. This cloned cow
will then not produce the protein. This technique is very useful to produce a herd without the
protein to gather more milk. Because of this protein produced (BLG) this causes a lot of people
and infants to become very sick and ill. Therefore by creating a herd of cows using the processes
of Gene Knockdown and Cloning this would not only cut out the lethal protein of BLG, but this
will also create cows that don t possess the BLG protein and therefore creating healthy milk for all
to drink.
Gene knockdown refers to experimental techniques by which the expression of one or more of an
organism s genes are reduced. This reduction of genes can occur either through genetic modification
(alters the genetic makeup of an organism using

Mediation and Peacekeeping Agenda in International Relations
MEDIATION AND PEACEKEEPING AGENDA In International Relations, mediation and
peacekeeping are the very essence of what are international relations itself, international
organizations and regional organization like the African Union. First established by the United
Nations decades ago, it has played an outstanding role in the peaceful aim and determination of
armed conflict around the world. It was at the end of the Cold War that it mostly reached its
peak as many long term conflicts were finally coming to an end due to the political negotiations
which were often broken but were successfully applied after strong mediation and peacekeeping
effort. For this thesis of the Darfur conflict, to assess and examine the African Union s mediation
and peacekeeping agenda, we must first understand and differentiate between peacemaking and
peacekeeping. Then their role in the Darfur conflict could be analyzed and if they have had an
outstanding role as in many others armed conflict. Definition of Mediation and Peacekeeping
What is mediation? What is peacemaking? Peacemaking and mediation are deeply intertwine and
cannot be defined without one another. But what is peacemaking? Peacemaking has been defined
by many scholars and critics. For Douglas Noll, an expert in peacemaking and mediation
specialized in difficult and intractable conflicts; he defined peacemaking as a complex concept as
even peace can be defined in so many ways. But however he described peacemaking as a concept

Doris Day History Dbq Analysis
In the 1950s, postwar we saw a huge effort for the reconstruction of families. The roles of each
person in the family had a purpose. The roles were specific and to stray from it would not have
been good for the family image. Women were the homemakers who waited on their families
every need. While this trend was growing another trend opposing it grew as well. We lived in a
conservative time but many women did not always fall into the homemaker category. Not all
women were married. Not all women had the family so new trends started to pop up. Beauty
pageants, Barbie s and Marilyn Monroewere some of the biggest and or sexiest trends to come
about. The sex appeal of women changed during this era but icons made a huge difference. They
have molded what we are today and what women have evolved into. Doris Day was what an
independent womanwas supposed to be like. She gave that image but she was not married and she
did have a sex appeal to her that was not common. The other three icons broke that mold but Doris
Day created the gateway for these icons.
Beauty pageants were made to bring everyone together. Like the Super Bowl and the Emmys, the
contest has become part of America s mythological consciousness, a point of pride and societal
longing. (Ronnie D. Lankford, 1999 2005). The beauty of the 51 individuals wasn t a bad thing
either especially since the women were running around practically naked. The process of beautiful
women being judge purely on looks during a time when

My Experience At The School Nurse
After lunch I knew something was off. I should have known better I thought to myself. The
teacher was talking, but I was not listening. The jolting pain shooting in my right wrist was
currently grabbing my attention. I looked down, my wrist was slightly swollen and tinted red
forming fresh bruises. At first the pain was tolerable, but any minor twist or turn affected the
pain level immensely. Unprepared for the new aching in my wrist, immediate shouts of agony
followed. My teacher, Mrs. Stephenson, immediately asked, What s wrong? Looking up, my face
was turning red, I didn t know what to say. I knew the incident was foolish and could have been
completely avoided. My lips were sealed from embarrassment. I didn t say a word. Despite the...

Today I wasn t very hungry. I did not want to eat my sandwich. After eating my yogurt, chips, and
brownie I planned how to sneak past Ms. Noriega to dispose of my sandwich. Until Are you going
to eat that? Matt asked. Replying, No, you can have it, I realized he saw that I was going to
throw it away and offered to eat it instead. I was relieved because Ms. Noriega didn t seem to
move, she was like an anchored boat confined to the area of the trash can. Not to mention she had
eyes like a hawk.
Stepping foot onto the grass beyond the fence felt like a whole new world. Leaving behind the
boring lunch patio I entered the backyard of the school. It was divided into three parts: the tennis
courts, a field in the center shaded by three large trees, and a playground underneath more trees.
Fifth grade was all about the playground. Everyone always rushed to their favorite playground
spot. Christina, Cayman and I always sat on top of the hang glider, but today we were feeling extra
adventurous. We were always hanging off the glider in ways no one is supposed to but today we
were not going to be hanging instead jumping. Let s have a competition, Christina said, Everyone
must jump from the top of this hang glider and grab the branch above. Cayman and I looked above
to see a dangling tree branch about 4 feet out of reach if we were standing on top of the hang
glider. We didn t think it could be done.

Who are Samsung s competitors in this market?
The smartphone device market in South Africa is quite different to many other markets in the
world in that Blackberry still holds the majority of the market. Research conducted by World Wide
Worx, a leading independent technology research and strategy organization, estimates that as at
March 2013 there were 12 million activated smartphone devices in South Africa
(mybroadband.co.za). This is shared as follows, 40% Blackberry, 30% Nokia, 15% Samsung and
7% Apple.
In the broader South African smartphone market Samsung is a follower but in the premium high

Reform. Revolution. Change. These words can be used to describe France and the transitions it
is has been going through since after the war. Now more than ever the people of France must
come together to work towards a form of government that reflects the opinions of all people, and
one that takes into consideration the needs of the majority. With the transition from a monarchy to
a republic all citizens should have a right to political freedom, and that includes the rights of
women. I, along with many other women in the city of Toulon have expressed our feelings about
the need for women to become active members in society. We are young, independent, and work
just as hard as the men in our city and think we deserve to be recognized. I write... Show more

Though we are young, we also are passionate and capable of creating change. Olympe De Gouges
was willing to lay her life down for women s suffrage, and her bravery will serve as an inspiration
for all women to take action. She has served as a spark that has lit the fuse for the recognition of
women in politics. Gouges, however, is not our only supporter in our cause for equality. Marquis
De Condorcet, an educated philosopher and mathematician, has already spoken out about the
inequality that women experience regularly. He supports the cause that women should be given
the right to achieve the title of a full citizen. This full citizenship includes owning land, paying
taxes, voting, and having the ability to run for office. Condorcet is a forward thinker and is
already seeing the necessary changes that need to be made in order to allow women to express

Examples Of Quoting, Paraphrasing, And Summarizing
Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing
Research papers (research essays) must include information from sources. This is called
synthesizing or integrating your sources.
There are three ways to incorporate information from other sources into your paper: quoting,
paraphrasing, and summarizing. Good research papers should include at least quoting and
paraphrasing and preferably also summarizing. The method you choose depends on which is the
best way to make the point you are trying to make in using that particular information from the
source. It is very important to remember that even if you are not using the exact words of the
author as when you paraphrase or summarize, you must give a source citation.
Every sentence with information from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quotations should only be used in paraphrases when there are special words or wording that
cannot be paraphrased. Because the same information that the author provided is being used, a
paraphrase is often as long as the original source. Since paraphrases are information from a source,
every sentence with paraphrased information must cite the source even if exact words are not
quoted.
Even through a sentence with paraphrased information must cite the source, any exact words from
the source must be in quotation marks. Failing to use quotation marks on exact words is plagiarism
even if the sentence give credit to the source.
Proper notetaking while doing research will help avoid plagiarism. Notes should include quotation
marks around any exact words taken from sources.
Another problem students may have with paraphrasing is that the language used in the paraphrase
should be an accurate accounting of the source s ideas. Good paraphrasing doesn t just capture the
ideas of the source. They don t include your own opinions or omit important information. Just like
in a quotation, be sure to either introduce the source at the beginning of your paraphrase or cite the
source at the end of the sentence so that the reader knows these are not your ideas, but ideas from

Bali 9 Clock Ticks Analysis
Written by Cindy Wockner, the Bali 9 Clock Ticks newspaper article appearing in the Herald Sun
serves as a neat, professional update on the predicament of Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan.
Written in typical newspaper fashion, the article underlies themes of desperation, hopelessness and
fear in a detached string of paragraphs. The article catches our attention with a suspenseful,
desperate title Bali 9 Clock Ticks. The phrase Clock Ticks paints a picture in our minds of time
running out, and having to do something drastic before it s too late. This theme of despair is
continuously highlighted throughout the text through phrases such as all but in their executioners

options . The audience... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

how another woman s co accursed including the drug ring mastermind won clemency back in

woman who was simply a pawn being sentenced to death while her boss is set free. Anecdotes like

The Pros And Cons Of Social Enempreneurship
Creation of Jobs aiming on changing business models
It is not that innovation and automation have resulted in unemployment or will lead to
unemployment instead innovation is actually intrinsic to the changing business models across the
world. Today s is an economy of innovation . We need to create innovative jobs that would
complement the innovative machines and technologies that are created. David Nordof and Vint
Cerf recently in their book Disrupting Unemployment argue that there is a need to develop a
people centered rather than a task centered economy. There is a need to create value of people
rather than just focusing on lower costs of tasks.
This essay argues that there needs to be a two fold strategy to rethink the unemployment crises
taking it away from a superficial entanglement of acronyms and arcane charts. The two fold strategy
includes:

emotions hockey players and athletes alike can relate to. Firstly, Gaston often reflects on his
successes throughout his hockey career. Which this feeling of accomplishment is frequent as
there is many opportunities for said feeling, hitting a solid pass which leads to a goal or sinking
the puck after dangling relentlessly. Paul Coffey once said, Hockey s a funny game. You have
to prove yourself every shift, every game. It s not up to anybody else. You have to take pride in
yourself. (Paul Coffey, 2008, Bobby Orr and Me) Gaston captures this pride by using highlights
from his career to explain these euphoric moments which hockey has brought him, again a
feeling many players can relate to. Similarly to the book Bobby Orr and Me, hockey is an
emotional journey in which each players commit to each season and yet regardless of the

Torah Reflection
Have you ever done or said something you wish you hadn t? What if someone was hurt as a
result of what you said or did? What did you do once you realized that? In last week s Torah
portion, things in Canaan had become pretty bad for Jacob s family, so he sent his sons to Egypt
to bring back food for the family. At the end of last week s parashah, Joseph s brothers are
standing before him in Egypt, seeking food for their starving family, but they still don t know
who Joseph is. At this point in the story, Joseph has become someone with great power in the
Egyptian government, and decides to test his brothers, to see if they ve changed at all since
they tried to kill him many years before. He demands that they bring back their youngest brother,
Benjamin, before he agrees to help them. When they return with Benjamin, Joseph orders his
servants to place his silver goblet in Benjamin s bag. Just as all the brothers are leaving, with
food and supplies, Joseph orders his guards to search the bags, and they find Joseph s goblet in
Benjamin s bag. As punishment, Joseph threatens to keep Benjamin and send his brothers back
to their father s home without him. This is where we pick up this week, with the brothers
standing before Joseph, trying to figure out how to get their brother back. They still don t know
that they are actually talking to Joseph, their brother. They plead Joseph to let them return with
Benjamin, saying that their father will die if they return without him. Joseph still refuses. Then
Judah steps up and offers to stay as slave instead of Benjamin. When Joseph sees Judah offering
himself in Benjamin s place, he can no longer hide his identity any longer. He sends everyone
else out of the room and, crying, tells them that he is their brother, Joseph. Jewish tradition sees
Judah s actions here as an important example of the value of teshuvah, which means repentance,
or repairing a relationship. Before, Judah was the one who came up with the plan to kill Joseph,
and, according to the rabbis, when Judah offers to take Benjamin s place, Joseph realizes how
much Judah has changed and decides to reveal himself. Sometimes we make mistakes and, when
we realize that, we re not sure what to do about it.

The main symbol that reoccurs in the film is a sled. The first sled is shown at the beginning of
the film when Kane, as a child, is playing on it in the snow. This sled is a major part of Kane s
childhood because this specific sled made him feel joyous and lighthearted. The fuss about his last
murmured word, Rosebud, is the name of Kane s sled; it was meaningful to his life and is an
important aspect of the film. The sled was later shown when Kane s belongings were burned soon
after he died. The sled represented Kane s happiness and innocence. The film s sound effects and
instrumental music range from soft to loud, depending on the scenario. The music used is
consistent with the situations that occur. For example, the music playing while young Charles
Kane is being told that he has to go away with his mother s banker is smooth and then becomes
intense. During this scene, the viewer can hear a combination of instruments such as flutes, violins,
and tubas. The powerful instrumental music lasts for a couple of minutes to emphasize how
upsetting the news is for Kane. In general, the sound effects and music accentuate the emotions the
characters are expressing or trying to

example the Levallois point. These flake tools could be modified into simple or more complex

Loyalty In Sophocles Antigone
Throughout history, scholars, poets, and socialites cite and argue multiple aspects within Sophocles
plays, which all contain a deluge of sentiments that permeate global society and culture. Riddled
with disparate interpretations and theories, Antigone sparks acrimonious debate regarding a
plethora of its details, such as characterization, theme, and undertone. Antigone, written by the
Ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, recounts the events of Oedipusdaughter, Antigone, following
her brothers deaths. Sophocles manipulates Antigone s character to model the loyal, dutiful
individual the Greeks idolized in their religion and culture rather than formulating a realistic
character who serves herself.
These attributes of loyalty and duty emerge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate, Antigone articulates to Ismene that Creonlacks the power to prohibit her from burying
Polyneices (Prologue, line 35). Disregarding Creon s powers, Antigone extends both her immaturity
and recklessness in amanner that both generates a hazy impression of Antigone s plausibility and
discredits her personality because of the seldom conflict between the king and women in Ancient
Greece. Furthermore, characters such as Eurydice and Jocasta, who experience much more tragedy,
diverge from Antigone in the course of their reactions. While Jocasta and Eurydice grieve for their
loved ones and succumb to the sorrow, Antigone s reaction exists at the opposite end of the
spectrum where she acts with the sole intent to spite Creon. Continuing, Antigone dictates that she
is not afraid of the danger; if it means death, / It will not be the worst of deaths death without honor
(Prologue, lines 80 81). Recognizing her inevitable fate, Antigone makes little effort to alter her
actions or consequences. Her proud acceptance of her death, which she claims to be one of honor,
projects her arrogance and stubbornness toward her situation. This immediate compliance fails to
reflect the true outlook and reaction toward approaching death both today and in her time.
Additionally, the diatribe provided by Antigone to the chorus near her death sparks much criticism
when she asserts that she prays Creon s punishment equals her own when the truth of her actions
emerges (Scene 4, lines 67 69). Antigone s blatant assault on Creon s life conveys her ignorance,
which also transmits the impossibility of her individuality. Sophocles employs Antigone to generate
the generalized perspective of tyranny Conversely, many individuals justify Antigone s reckless
behavior

Pharmaceutical companies like Bristol Myers Squib and Eli Lilly used cannabis in medicines that are widely sold in United States pharmacies to treat insomnia, migraines, and rheutmatism. After an upheaval of the war, scores of Mexican peasants migrated to the United States borders, and they brought with them their popular form of intoxication, which they called Mariguana . • 5. Bullying And Teasing Bullying and Teasing: No Laughing Matter Unfortunately, teasing is often part of growing up almost every child experiences it. But it isn t always as innocuous as it seems. Words can cause pain. Teasing becomes bullying when it is repetitive or when there is a conscious intent to hurt another child. It can be verbal bullying (making threats, name calling), psychological bullying (excluding children, spreading rumors), or physical bullying (hitting, pushing, taking a child s possessions). How Bullying Starts Bullying behavior is prevalent throughout the world and it cuts across socio economic, racial /ethnic, and cultural lines. Researchers estimate that 20 to 30 percent of school age children are involved in bullying incidents, as either perpetrators or victims. Bullying can begin as early as preschool and intensify during transitional stages, such as starting school in 1st grade or going into middle school. Victims of bullying are often shy and tend to be physically weaker than their peers. They may also have low self esteem and poor social skills, which makes it hard for them to stand up for themselves. Bullies consider these children safe targets because they usually don t retaliate. Effects of Bullying If your child is the victim of bullying, he may suffer physically and emotionally, and his schoolwork will likely show it. Grades drop because, instead of listening to the teacher, kids are wondering what they did wrong and whether anyone will sit with them at lunch. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Fifteen By William Stafford Analysis Fifteen, by William Stafford is a free verse poem about age. In the poem he talks about being a fifteen year old boy in which he refers to himself as South on the ridge on Seventeenth (Stafford Line 1). Where he means that he is not yet seventeen, but he is almost there. He was taking a walk one day during the summer when he came across a motorcycle with the engine still running. He picks up the motorcycle and observed it with much awe. He was very fond of the motorcycle, he admired it very much. He imagined taking off on the motorcycle, then in the grass next to him, he saw the owner of the motorcycle. But instead of taking off on the motorcycle he helped the owner up, then realizing that he was in a motorcycle crash. The owner greeted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stafford s idea was very vivid. It started out in the first line of the poem. South of the bridge of Seventeenth (Stafford Line 1), which I stated previously. He described where he was on the roads, while also making a play on words by describing his age stance. He is a fifteen year old boy, as many can tell by the name of the poem. He farther asserted his idea with this initial opening line, stating that he is under seventeen years old, but he is close to crossing the bridge to being seventeen. Following after, more into the poem he talks about discovering a motorcycle on the side of the road with the engine still running. He grabs the motorcycle and grasps the handles as if he is about to take off. I admired all that pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks, the demure headlights fringed where it lay (Stafford Line 6 8). He became particularly attracted to the motorcycle, as if it were an actual human, like a friend. The overall theme clarify s the aging process, he is fifteen, but closer to seventeen. Every event in the poem shows his still younger, naive side. The naive feelings comply to the fact that he is only fifteen. The line I was fifteen was repeated several times to push the theme into the readers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Usually the antagonist of the work, villains are favored by readers for the reason that they keep the plot moving. The definition of a villain is, a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot ( Villain ). In Nathaniel Hawthornes piece, The Scarlet Letter, his character Roger Chillingworth does not fall short of this criteria and is most certainly a prime example of a villain as he forms the rest of his life around seeking revenge on his wife and her partner in adultery: Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. The nature of Roger Chillingworth s villainy enhances meaning in The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne through its symbolism, physical and behavioral characteristics, and actions. • 10. The Characteristics Of King Oedipus The King As A Tragedy Oedipus the King by Sophocles is more than just a basic tragedy. It contains a complete combination of all the features of a tragedy. I find Sophocles King Oedipus interesting. Not because of the whole incest thing, the killing of the father, and the sleeping with the mother. I am still too naive to appreciate the significance of that. I find SophoclesKing Oedipusfascinating because as I read it with attention, I realized how amazingly hard it was to write. Even though it s a Greek tragedyand the reading is a little hard to understand. But, once someone gets inside the story line, its captivates one s attention. I admit I enjoy less the content of the play than Sophocles writing skill. When to retell a well known story, one has to make the story enough convincing without relying on the end of the story. one must dislocate the point of the story from its end to rest. By doing that the story will not lose its appeal. One has to be a creator. So, you have to twist the whole story in such an irresistible way that it is compelling despite the fact that the outcome of the story is known. How do Sophocles solve this problem? By making King Oedipus the central character and unintentionally the architect of his own downfall. The strengths that once lead him to solve the riddle later served as his own destruction. To make a story more appropriate to the stage, which is dealing with flashbacks, forward moving energy of the story must accommodate with the backward references that ... The other two scenarios result in a continued global crisis, as countries such as China may remain focused on exports and foreign investors holding the U.S. dollar may lose confidence in the American financial system causing a rise in the cost of capital. These situations are likely based on the Triffin dilemma, or the loss of confidence in the American dollar. According to Ahamed, The risk of such a situation is clearly on the minds of Chinese policy makers. Zhou Xiaochuan, the Governor of the People s Bank of China, explicitly referred to Triffin s dilemma in a speech this March on the need for reform of the international monetary system (2009). • 12. Air Quality Pollution To begin, Hillsborough County in Florida is home to downtown Tampa which is one of the major cities in the state. With having big cities in your local areas comes with some side effects. Tampa is related to many air quality issues in the state. Tampa is a continuously growing city, as people relocate to the area, many things must happen to accommodate the growth in population. Most of which contributes to of the air quality standards in our area because of the need for additional roads, and numerous new housing developments to be built, increasing the amount of power plants to power the many new houses. To continue, these contribute to massive air quality issues for Tampa . The number of vehicles increase as more people move to the area, as well as big truck needed to bring in good and supplies for the increased population. This is a major concern because back in 2000 Floridavoted to eliminate the emissions testing for all vehicles, by discontinuing testing there is no way to control vehicles which expel excessive amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Issues arise in construction zones because all the big construction equipment emit lots of pollution into our air, and by continuing to build roads and construct his rise building we are adding to the poor air quality instead of reducing it. In addition to this earlier in 2017 Florida suffered a severe drought, resulting in numerous wildfires spread throughout the state. This resulted in higher than normal Ozone ... Around 5300 babies with Down syndrome are born in the United States each year, and approximately 200,000 people in this country have the condition. (de Graaf G, Buckley F, Skotko BG, 2016). While Down syndrome cannot be inherited, the number of babies with Down syndrome born each year is alarming. Despite the fact that Down syndrome can be detected before birth, there is no known way to cure it. As such, the parents whose child have been diagnosed to have Down syndrome have to decide whether to keep the child or not. Parenting has never been easy, and it is made harder if the child is affected by Down syndrome. Most of the time, when parents are informed that their child has Down syndrome, they are stricken with grief, depression, hopelessness, and the likes. (Preidt, 2010). Having a child affected by such mental illnesses may make it hard for parents to deal with their children, since any shortcomings may lead to a miserable life for their child. But even with Down syndrome, a child is still a child, and can still be brought up to live a happy life if parented correctly. This study aims to relay the experiences of a parent who has a child with Down syndrome to people who are not aware of what they go through. Harriet Jacobs had to withstand massive amounts of pain and psychological torture due to her place in society as a slave. Jacobs does not leave out the physical aspect of the suffering, however, she focuses more on the spiritual and emotional aspect of the slaveryage. Although Jacobs had a relatively easy life in comparison to other slaves, she was deprived from basic human rights and necessities, witnessed human beings resolve to corruption and be treated like animals, and is sexually abused. The mental scars left behind are very harsh. Harriet Jacobs was deprived from basic human rights and necessities. Since Jacobs grew up in a society were African Americans were inferior, they were objectified rather than be treated in a humane matter. Slaves were taken away the idea that they were human. ...they thought he had spoiled his children, by teaching them to feel that they were human beings. This was blasphemous doctrine for a slave to teach; y presumptuous in him, and dangerous to the masters. (Pg. 12). Every ten years after the age of 50 the prevalence of this disease increases exponentially. Many different factors contribute to the development of AMD including genetic, environment, and metabolic functions. Aside from smoking, abnormal blood pressure, and an unhealthy diet low in fruits and vegetables, many more studies are concluding that similar inflammatory and oxidative processes seen in other age related diseases are also playing a key role in the development of AMD. This disease affects the central areas of the retinaand choroid. In return central vision is impaired while peripheral vision is usually not lost. AMD is seen in two different forms, the earlier nonneovascular (dry) type and the more advanced neovascular (wet) type. Each form has its own specific pathology and unique characteristics that set them apart. Fatty, protein deposits called drusens may be the key risk factor in understanding dry AMD pathology, progression, and treatment. Once the more advanced wet AMD is diagnosed, pathology and treatment are targeted around the formation and destruction of abnormal blood vessels, characteristic of the wet AMD eye. The increasing prevalence of AMD has influenced more investigation into what factors can be modulated to prevent the onset or to stop the progression of AMD. To assure that a bridge is well supported many concepts must be understood and used in the correct manner. What is a bridge? A bridge is a complex structure allowing passage across an obstacle: a structure that is built above and across a river, road, or other obstacle to allow people or vehicles to cross it. Bridge forms There are four major forms of bridges: beam, truss, arch, and suspension. A beam bridge, also known as a girder bridge, contains a horizontal beam supported by 2 piers at each end. The beam pushes down on the piers, which weakens the overall bridge. These simplistic bridges are the shortest of all types due to the lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Above the bridge, a structure of the same pattern is placed to support the bridge from above. At the ends of each bridge, there are two similar trusses. This ensures that the bridge stays together, even when large amounts of weights cross it. By allowing more weight to cross, these bridges can be longer than beam bridges (they can be up to 500 meters). Forces are the focus of these bridges; each bar exerts a pushing or pulling force without bending. These forces allows the lightweight bridge to stay sturdy without collapsing as each steel bar pushes or pulls in the correct direction. Due to this stability, these bridges are often found over places with unstable ground. Anything from cars to trains are able to cross over these types of bridges without issues. There are 4 major concepts in building a bridge that builders must pay attention to; span type, material of the bridge, the placement of the travel surface in relation to the structure, and the form of the bridge. When considering all of these concepts, builders can effectively construct a safe and sturdy bridge. Newton s 3rd Law One of the most vital concepts in bridge construction is Newton s 3rd Law. New research demonstrates that an executive s passionate style drives other people s inclinations and practices (Goleman, Boyatzis, McKee, 2015). Only in recent years has there emerged a scientific model of the emotional mind that explains how so much of what we do can be emotionally driven. Individuals can be so reasonable at one moment and so irrational the next. Emotions can be experienced and deployed intelligently and skillfully or not so intelligent and skillfully (Goleman, 2005). The skillthat allows one to understand, implement and use emotions is called emotional intelligence(Goleman, 2005). Genuinely incredible leaders recognize, comprehend and deal with their feelings, as well as knowing what they can do with individuals in an exceptionally engaging manner. • 44. Genetically And Modified Dairy Cattle Essay Cows produce a protein in their milk called BLG and many infants are allergic to this protein. Two to three hundred infants are allergic to cow s milk, and BLG allergies are seemingly a large part of this. Various organizations are trying to investigate ways to manipulate the genetic material in the modified dairy cattle with the main goal of producing milk that doesn t contain the lethal BLG protein. Daisy is a genetically modified cloned cow and whom does not produce milk containing the BLG protein but does however have the genefor it. But the mRNA for the BLG protein has become nonfunctional. Once the protein has been manipulated the cow containing the modified gene is cloned to produce a calf with the same genetic material. This cloned cow will then not produce the protein. This technique is very useful to produce a herd without the protein to gather more milk. Because of this protein produced (BLG) this causes a lot of people and infants to become very sick and ill. Therefore by creating a herd of cows using the processes of Gene Knockdown and Cloning this would not only cut out the lethal protein of BLG, but this will also create cows that don t possess the BLG protein and therefore creating healthy milk for all to drink. Mediation and Peacekeeping Agenda in International Relations MEDIATION AND PEACEKEEPING AGENDA In International Relations, mediation and peacekeeping are the very essence of what are international relations itself, international organizations and regional organization like the African Union. First established by the United Nations decades ago, it has played an outstanding role in the peaceful aim and determination of armed conflict around the world. It was at the end of the Cold War that it mostly reached its peak as many long term conflicts were finally coming to an end due to the political negotiations which were often broken but were successfully applied after strong mediation and peacekeeping effort. For this thesis of the Darfur conflict, to assess and examine the African Union s mediation and peacekeeping agenda, we must first understand and differentiate between peacemaking and peacekeeping. Then their role in the Darfur conflict could be analyzed and if they have had an outstanding role as in many others armed conflict. Definition of Mediation and Peacekeeping What is mediation? What is peacemaking? Peacemaking and mediation are deeply intertwine and cannot be defined without one another. But what is peacemaking? Peacemaking has been defined by many scholars and critics. The roles were specific and to stray from it would not have been good for the family image. Women were the homemakers who waited on their families every need. While this trend was growing another trend opposing it grew as well. We lived in a conservative time but many women did not always fall into the homemaker category. Not all women were married. Not all women had the family so new trends started to pop up. Beauty pageants, Barbie s and Marilyn Monroewere some of the biggest and or sexiest trends to come about. The sex appeal of women changed during this era but icons made a huge difference. They have molded what we are today and what women have evolved into. Doris Day was what an independent womanwas supposed to be like. She gave that image but she was not married and she did have a sex appeal to her that was not common. The other three icons broke that mold but Doris Day created the gateway for these icons. Beauty pageants were made to bring everyone together. Like the Super Bowl and the Emmys, the contest has become part of America s mythological consciousness, a point of pride and societal longing. (Ronnie D. Lankford, 1999 2005). This is called synthesizing or integrating your sources. There are three ways to incorporate information from other sources into your paper: quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. Good research papers should include at least quoting and paraphrasing and preferably also summarizing. The method you choose depends on which is the best way to make the point you are trying to make in using that particular information from the source. It is very important to remember that even if you are not using the exact words of the author as when you paraphrase or summarize, you must give a source citation. Every sentence with information from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quotations should only be used in paraphrases when there are special words or wording that cannot be paraphrased. Because the same information that the author provided is being used, a paraphrase is often as long as the original source. Since paraphrases are information from a source, every sentence with paraphrased information must cite the source even if exact words are not quoted. Even through a sentence with paraphrased information must cite the source, any exact words from the source must be in quotation marks. Failing to use quotation marks on exact words is plagiarism even if the sentence give credit to the source. Proper notetaking while doing research will help avoid plagiarism. Notes should include quotation marks around any exact words taken from sources. Another problem students may have with paraphrasing is that the language used in the paraphrase should be an accurate accounting of the source s ideas. Good paraphrasing doesn t just capture the ideas of the source. They don t include your own opinions or omit important information. Just like in a quotation, be sure to either introduce the source at the beginning of your paraphrase or cite the source at the end of the sentence so that the reader knows these are not your ideas, but ideas from your ... In last week s Torah portion, things in Canaan had become pretty bad for Jacob s family, so he sent his sons to Egypt to bring back food for the family. At the end of last week s parashah, Joseph s brothers are standing before him in Egypt, seeking food for their starving family, but they still don t know who Joseph is. At this point in the story, Joseph has become someone with great power in the Egyptian government, and decides to test his brothers, to see if they ve changed at all since they tried to kill him many years before. He demands that they bring back their youngest brother, Benjamin, before he agrees to help them. When they return with Benjamin, Joseph orders his servants to place his silver goblet in Benjamin s bag. Just as all the brothers are leaving, with food and supplies, Joseph orders his guards to search the bags, and they find Joseph s goblet in Benjamin s bag. As punishment, Joseph threatens to keep Benjamin and send his brothers back to their father s home without him. This is where we pick up this week, with the brothers standing before Joseph, trying to figure out how to get their brother back. They still don t know that they are actually talking to Joseph, their brother. They plead Joseph to let them return with Benjamin, saying that their father will die if they return without him. Joseph still refuses. Then Judah steps up and offers to stay as slave instead of Benjamin. When Joseph sees Judah offering himself in Benjamin s place, he can no longer hide his identity any longer. He sends everyone else out of the room and, crying, tells them that he is their brother, Joseph. Jewish tradition sees Judah s actions here as an important example of the value of teshuvah, which means repentance, or repairing a relationship. Before, Judah was the one who came up with the plan to kill Joseph, and, according to the rabbis, when Judah offers to take Benjamin s place, Joseph realizes how much Judah has changed and decides to reveal himself. Antigone, written by the Ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, recounts the events of Oedipusdaughter, Antigone, following her brothers deaths. Disregarding Creon s powers, Antigone extends both her immaturity and recklessness in amanner that both generates a hazy impression of Antigone s plausibility and discredits her personality because of the seldom conflict between the king and women in Ancient Greece. Furthermore, characters such as Eurydice and Jocasta, who experience much more tragedy, diverge from Antigone in the course of their reactions. While Jocasta and Eurydice grieve for their loved ones and succumb to the sorrow, Antigone s reaction exists at the opposite end of the spectrum where she acts with the sole intent to spite Creon. Continuing, Antigone dictates that she is not afraid of the danger; if it means death, / It will not be the worst of deaths death without honor (Prologue, lines 80 81). Recognizing her inevitable fate, Antigone makes little effort to alter her actions or consequences. Her proud acceptance of her death, which she claims to be one of honor, projects her arrogance and stubbornness toward her situation. This immediate compliance fails to reflect the true outlook and reaction toward approaching death both today and in her time. Additionally, the diatribe provided by Antigone to the chorus near her death sparks much criticism when she asserts that she prays Creon s punishment equals her own when the truth of her actions emerges (Scene 4, lines 67 69).
