Religious Beliefs Of Islam In Islam, Islam And Islam
Islam is a widespread religion in the world and probably the only religion which has a set of laws
that are followed by its members to the book. Likewise, the Islamic religion focuses on the
preservation of self and community to follow moral values, the Shari ah was introduced by Prophet
Mohammad as a guideline to be a true and devout Muslim. Furthermore, Shari ah or the path to
religious beliefs will be discussed further in detail in reference to its definition, origins, sources,
and its relevance in the contemporary world. On the other hand, Tariqa is defined as leading
those who obeyed Shari ah to walk on God s path which is considered as a leader who can take
you to a path closer to God which will also be discussed in further detail. This essay will discuss in
detail the two different aspects, Shari ah and Tariqa in further details and their connections to each
other.
Shari ah in other words, is known as Islamic law. Shari ah means right path in Arabic and it refers
to the essential principle which guides all aspects of Muslim life such as daily routines, familial
and religious obligations, and financial dealings. Shari ah s origin is from the Quran and the Sunna
(sayings, practices, and teachings of the prophet). Therefore, the Muslim legal scholars interpreted
them and named it as Shari ah or Islamic law. Moreover, it is believed by many Muslims that Allah
revealed his true will to Muhammad who passed it on from generations to generations through the
Quran. In

Designing An Effective Advertisement
Introduction
What does it take to make an effective advertisement that will successfully communicate an
important message? What does it take to capture the eye of the intended audience? It could be
dependent on the color selections or maybe even a certain graphic or image. Although those are all
vital elements to take into consideration during the design process, the most important element in
creating an effective advertisement is typography. Typography by definition is the arrangement and
manipulation of a certain typeface or typefaces on the layout of a design. Arranging text into an
effective design requires plenty of thought and a fair amount of experimentation.
A designer must consider the many different factors including alternative typefaces, point sizes, line
lengths and character spacing. These text elements represent typography, and with the correct
combination, it could be the means to a very successful advertisement and design. When looking at
typography from a marketing mentality, it is crucial to pay attention to the overall appearance and
tones advertisements try to express. Typography is a powerful tool to establish an identity or
presence, showcase the services or products it can offer them, and subtly inject the intended
message, above and beyond the actual words and graphics.
The History and Origin of Typography The origin of typography dated as early as 1850 to 1600
B.C.E. and originated from Ancient Greece. Punches and dies were utilized to produce

Indian Gaming Benefits
There are many ways Indian Gaming effects local and regional economies. It can be argued that
it has been very beneficial. It can also be argued that it has been a detriment. Since 1988, when
the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was passed, it has been providing a means of income for the
tribes that participate. Indian gaming is beneficial to tribes and surrounding communities because
it creates economic stability for the tribes, provides well paying jobs, and economic benefits for
surrounding communities and the state. Indian gaming has created wealth for some tribes, but for
most tribes it has made them economically stable. Part of the reason for success in Indian gaming
was the route most tribes took. By starting conservatively and using temporary buildings, in some
cases, tribes were able to smartly and carefully begin in the gaming industry (Akee, Spilde, and
Taylor 196). Not all tribes use gaming as their primary source of income, but it is another revenue
source that makes things stable. Some tribes have become very wealthy due to having an advantage
of being located next to large populations. Most tribes do not have this advantage but do well in self
sustainment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evil Vs Religion
There re a lot of questions with very little answers that people had and have about things that are
taking place in the world. The question of why has been around for centuries. Some questions
have gotten answers and other didn t. When talking about evil, suffering and religious faith, there
will always be a question in a person mind. The question of why are things hot and cold? What
things go up and down, and why are people tall and short? Scientists, anthropologies, psychologies,
and philosophies have all done their research on the matter of how things functions around the
world. Each day, there re more researchers being done on who, what, when, where, and how. Which

I think I would been consume with doubt and fear at that moment of my life. I know within that
moment I would have called out for God help, but I stills would had been fearful of my life. The
incident of 9/11 left me less likely in believing in God because if he couldn t save those people
why me. I think about the young lady who is a writer name Marian Fontana. She talked about
how she prayed all the time before 9/11. She was a person that had faith in God. She felts that
God would come through and answer all of her prayers. When her husband died in the attack of 9

past. She believe is would be a long time before she gets back to the way she was about God.
In closing, this back of my point I talked about in the top of my paper. Suffering can happen in
two ways self inflicted or cause by someone else, or somethings. Whatever the case is we cannot

Chuck Close Influences
Chuck Close an American photorealist artist who was born in the US during the 40 s and as a
result lived his teens 20 s through the emergence of the American counterculture. As a result of
the politics and world events at this time, much change was experienced by Chuck Close and he
became a part of challenging social norms. These ideas and experiences are influential on his
work and impact in various ways on his unique style in his artworks, as seen in his 1970 work
called Big Self Portrait. During the summer of 1988, Chuck also suffered a sudden rupture of a
spinal artery which resulted in Chuck needing more assistance whilst he was working on his
portraits. The Incident as he calls it, also led Chuck to a change in style in his works. This,
however, didn t mean he was going to change as a person as he continued to stay true to himself as
an artist. This severe injury was one of a number of health problems that Chuck endured including
his Facial Blindness condition that he had obtained all his life. The limitations that these conditions
placed on him lead to the selection of subject matter, size of works and the exacting practice he
employed to execute them, seen in the imageMark. As seen in the work Mark we see Chuck Close

item they are hopping to purchase. They said they have their eyes on the big screen television, but
they probably won t get it. They arrived five minutes before us and were already told by the store
managers that the products are limited. I noticed that people in the beginning of the line had
sleeping bags and tents with them. I really wanted to ask how long they have been waiting, but they
didn t look too approachable. The weather was wet and cold that evening, and the sun set once we
arrived. People were chatting and having conversation with strangers for almost forty minutes
before the managers announced that the open hour will be late for ten minutes due to shipment
issues or some sort. The atmosphere quickly turned, people were angry and complaining that they
have been waiting overnight. I could feel the intensity of the line when the managers also
announced the quantity of products they have. There were only fifty iphone6s with sale and
everyone gets to purchase only one. Even though I wasn t getting anything, I felt really nervous.

Disobedience And Dishonesty In The Little Red Cap And The...
Disobedience and dishonesty in The Little Red Cap and The Neapolitan Soldier
In the following essay I show how my academic disobedience and dishonesty parallels the
disobedience and dishonesty in the folk and fairy tales. In the The Neapolitan Soldier by Italo
Calvino, three soldiers who gets lost in the forest at night instead of sleeping they decide that two
are going to sleep while one will stay awake and look after the other two turn after turn. The first
soldier encounters a giant and kills him but decides not to tell the second soldier. The second
soldier encounter a giant too but decides not to tell the third soldier. The third soldier in his turn
kills a giant and but instead of switching his turn he decides to explore more about the giants.
Often, It is argued that the main reason the soldiers were dishonest about their encounters with the
giants were was to avoid fright and flee for the next soldered. However, it is claimed that he was
dishonest because, he wanted to sleep and avoid the consequence of finding a much safer place for
the night.
I still remember it was my first class for the semester. I was excited for my first literature class.
Everything went as good as I hoped, at the end of the class, Mr Matt our literature Professor
assigned us with a drama review essay, for which we had to watch a live play at a theater and
write a review on our experience. Four months later now i am trying to fix the wrong that i did.
The day Mr Matt gave us the assignment he instructed us that you have 4 months to complete this
assignment. Me being a lazy person planned to do it in the last month.. Three months passed by in
the blink of an eye. When the time finally came to do my assignment. I was short of money to buy
a ticket for the play as i spent a lot on social activities. But then i thought i can watch a play on
youtube and write a review on that, without using any money. So i disobeyed My Professor s
instructions and submitted a false assignment by watching a youtube video.
Thinking about it now makes me realize my mistakes. I neglected the fact that laziness is an
addiction and in order to keep being lazy, I became dishonest so i can avoid the consequences. This

In Sheep s Clothing Essay
Humans are animals. Animals have basic instinct and primal urges. Through our abilities to reason
and show emotion, we have created a construct that conceals many of these urges. But like graffiti
that has been painted over, it s just covering up something that never leaves. We can for the most
part agree that Edgar is an evil character, and most of us will not go to the extent of doing what he
has done in the play, but we can understand why he does what he does. We are not meant to

Humans will go to great lengths to achieve these needs and pseudo needs, including the
manipulation of others. In his book In Sheep s Clothing, psychology author George K. Simon
outlines three factors in successful psychological manipulation. The first is the concealing of
aggressive intentions and behaviours. Edmund uses manipulation of others actions to disguise his
intention to gain power of Britain. The second is knowing the psychological vulnerabilities of the
victim and using them to one s advantage. Edmund uses the superstitious views held by Gloucester

Problem Statement:
Create 2 formulas, one that will calculate the last number in terms of the first number and a
constant increase in rate as well as the total amount of numbers. The second formula will add ass of
the resulting numbers from the first formula together after the last number is calculated.
Process:
Kevin s Decisions:
In order to put the problem into perspective, I first set up my own possible variables for the first
platform height, the difference in height between each platform, and the total number of platforms.
I came up with the numbers for each variable respectively: 6, 3, and 3. The first platform is 6 feet

To find out the total height we could add the height of all of the platforms. However, the total
height can also be determined by a formula since the increase in height from platform to platform
is the same. What I saw was that there are pairs within the heights of the first platform and last
platform that when added result to the same number. For example: If there are 5 platforms in
total, the first platform is 4 feet and the increase in height is 2 feet, the height of the platforms in
order are: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12.
The height of the last platform is 12 and the height of the first platform is 4. When we add 4 and
12 the result is 16 and divided by 2 is 8. The 2nd platform is 6 feet and the 4rth platform is 10
feet When added together and divided by 2 to get the average we get 8. The platform is the
average number, which is 8. I saw this and put it into a formula. I took the height of the first
platform and added it to the last platform, and substituted it for the variables f+l (where l=the
height of the last platform). Then I took the total number of platforms and divided it by 2 to get the
average, and multiplied it by the average of both platforms to get the total height of all of the
platforms. This resulting number is the total length required in square feet of fabric to cover the
fronts of the platforms.

Title: Sacred Moments
Close interpretation of the story quot;Hills Like White Elephants quot; by Ernest Hemingway leads
the reader to an issue that has plagued society for decades. Understanding of the human condition is
unveiled in the story line, the main setting, and through the character representation. The main
characters in the story are an American man and a female named Jig. The conflict about abortions is
an issue that still faces society today. Architectural and atmospheric symbolisms are used to set the
mood and outline the human condition. The love bond between the man and Jig is strong; however,
the more powerful bond between Jig and her unborn child is sacred.

The station, a common ground or meeting place, is representative of the relationship between
the American and Jig. The tracks leading in and out of the station describe the emotional
pathways each of them takes. The American is almost exactly opposite to Jig, free spirited and
not wanting a change. Jig is love struck and torn. She has to decide between her love for the
American man and her love of her unborn child. The American is set on convincing Jig that
there is no harm in what she is considering. He tries to calm Jig by telling her quot;We ll be fine
afterwards, just like we were before quot;(24). Jig is not convinced. She is not as confident or as
willing as the American to rush off into such a carefree decision. The luggage, covered with hotel
labels, plays a significant part in understanding how Jig feels in regard to the decision that she had
to make. She was obviously torn between remaining reckless and carefree and making a family
with the man she loved. Jig reacts almost visibly in their conversation.
Building a social wall is the means to an end for Jig in the fight to make her decision. She is
willing to do almost anything for the American but is blocked by her motherly instinct to protect
her child. The American tells Jig quot;We can have everything quot;(24), quot;It s ours quot;(24),

December Soltices And The Winter Solstice And December...
There are different holidays that are celebrated worldwide. Some countries prepare, organize and
celebrate holidays, while others just observe holidays. There is a difference between celebrating
and observing. When a holiday is celebrated that day turns into an event. When a holiday is
observed it is noted as being a special or significant day. June Solstice(a.k.a. Summer Solstice) and
the December Solstice (a.k.a. Winter Solstice) are two holidays that are celebrated by some and
observed by others worldwide. How do the celebrations and observations differ and where?
A solstice is an astronomical event that occurs twice each year in June and December when the sun
is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator. (http://www.dictionary.com/browse/solstice,
n.d.). The term solstice comes from the Latin word solstitium, meaning the Sun stands still . (http:/

20 and June 22 and is the longest day of the year in terms of daylight. The December Solstice can
happen anytime around December 20 and December 23 and is the shortest day of the year in terms
of daylight. The dates differ because the earliest sunrise happens a few days before, and the latest
sunset takes place a few days after. (https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/december solstice

sodium chloride contains only 40 millilitres of oxygen per litre. Bodies of water may have
oxygen poor zones. Such zones are especially evident in swamps and at the lower levels of deep
lakes. Many animals are excluded from such zones; others have become remarkably adapted to
living in them.
The Earth s atmosphere extends to a height of many miles. It is composed of a mixture of gases
held in an envelope around the globe by gravitational attraction. The atmosphere exerts a pressure
proportional to the weight of a column of air above the surface of the Earth extending to the limit
of the atmosphere: atmospheric pressure at sea level is on average sufficient to support a column
of mercury 760 millimetres in height (abbreviated as 760 mm Hg the latter being the chemical
symbol for mercury). Dry air is composed chiefly of nitrogenand inert gases (79.02 percent), oxygen
(20.94 percent), and carbon dioxide (0.03 percent), each contributing proportionately to the total
pressure. These percentages are relatively constant to

Compare And Contrast The Model Of Prejudice And...
The model of prejudice and discrimination explains a structural cycle in society for two different
groups who are either the authority or who are under the authority of a social group. For example,
the system in the model is between two groups the superordinate s who are the ones in control, and
the subordinates, which are people under the authority and control. Having two different groups
with different believes, cultures, and behaviors leads to people automatically falling into one
category. Two different cultures lead to differences in ways of how they go through society and
behave. This then makes differences in both communities which produces negative prejudiceand
discrimination. Discrimination and prejudice leads to negative judgment

William O Connell Bradley s Contributions
William O Connell Bradley (1847 1914) was the 32nd Governor of Kentucky and a U.S. senator.
The first Republican to serve as governor of the state, he became known as the father of the
Republican Party in Kentucky. After a well received speech seconding the presidential nomination
of Ulysses S. Grant at the 1880 Republican National Convention, he was nominated for governor in
1887. He lost the general election that year, but won in 1895, capitalizing on divisions in the
Democratic Partyover the issue of free silver. His term was marked by political struggles and
violence. He advanced the status of black citizens, but was unable to enact much of his reform
agenda over a hostile Democratic majority. He was elected by the state legislature to the U.S.
Senate in 1907, when voting was deadlocked and the Democratic candidate, outgoing Governor J.
C. W. Beckham, refused to withdraw in favor of a compromise candidate. Bradley s opposition to...

SUMMARY OF CH.10
Pricing strategies:
Price: is an amount of money that the consumer is paying for a product or a service.
Costumer value based pricing: to determine the price of product or service we have to consider the
customer expectations of the value not the seller s cost.
Good value pricing means the balance between good quality and service, decent price for both the
customer and the company in order for it to gain profit. It also means, the marketer cannot make a
decision in the marketing program before the product design and the prices are set. Value added
pricing: is the pricing plan which depends on expected values for the consumer. Rather than

Two Poems About City Life by Liz Lochead
Two poems about city life by Liz Lochead
Liz Lochead has written two poems about city life, one being Laundrette which is set in an area
of Bristol which is full of bedsits, meant for students just renting. The other poem is George
Square which is set in the business district in Glasgow. As the first poem mentioned, Laundrette
has a subtle start as it says We sit nebulous in steam (nebulous meaning hazy or vague). You could
almost have a debate on all the possible places that you sit nebulous in steam . Through the whole
of laundrette it never uses the word laundrette except of course in the title. Quite on the opposite,
George Square starts off straight and plain by saying George Square . This throws the location to a

When saying sitting separate the poet puts sitting and separate on different lines to emphasise the
importance of the words being separate. Straight after that she puts close together on the same line
to say that they re close together.
Both poems have metaphors in, George Square uses incurable as cancer as quite a shocking
metaphor to describe how we can t get rid of flowers and weeds in the city no matter how hard we
try.
Laundrette has a few more metaphors. It has our eyes are riveted to describe how we just stand or
sit and stare intently at the washing machine as if were expecting something to happen to our
clothes. Another metaphor is the dark shoves one man in which uses personification to show how
someone, randomly wandering around comes into the laundrette to get away from the dark.
A good metaphor is tee shirts skinned from her wriggling son meaning how a mother had too pull
the tee shirts off her son who was probably screaming, shouting and trying to get away. One
metaphor, talking about the same person is she sees a kaleidoscope saying about how all the
multicoloured clothes go whirring around the washing machine very much like a kaleidoscope.
Half lost, his small possessions swim describes how there is a dour man with hardly any clothes
at all to wash so the washing machine isn t full, creating the image of his clothes swimming
around in all the masses of water looking half lost . The last metaphor is a rather long one, still

Payment Card Systems Were Breached
On September 8th, 2014, Home Depot released a statement indicating that its payment card
systems were breached. An investigation had started on September 2nd but they were still
trying to discover the actual scope and impact of the breach. Home Depot was one of the many
victims to a retail data breach in 2014. The unfortunate thing is the way the attacker s infiltrated
the POS networks and how the attackers were able to steal the payment card data, were the same
methods used in the Target data breach. By ignoring the warnings created from the breach at
Target, Home Depot allowed the attackers to use similar methods that could have been easily
defended. Through the use of a third party vendor s logon credentials, the attackers were able to
gain access. Then they exploited a zero day vulnerability in Windows, which allowed them to
pivot from the vendor specific environment to the Home Depot corporate environment. Since
both networks were linked, this was very easy. Once they were in the Home Depot network,
they were able install memory scraping malware on over 7,500 self checkout POS terminals.
They just put out an update to all the POS machines. Just like any IT shop would do. This
malware was able to grab 56 million credit and debit cards. The malware was also able to capture
53 million email addresses. The stolen payment cards were used to put up for sale and bought by
carders. The stolen email addresses were helpful in putting together large phishing campaigns.

The Basketball Association And The Nba
The National Basketball Association, or the NBA, is a men s professional basketball league in
the USA. The National Basketball Association was born in 1949 after the Basketball Association
of America and the National Basketball League merged as one. Maurice Podoloff was elected
head of the new league that consisted of seventeen teams which came from cities and towns all
across the country. The NBA did not have a great start with its teams dwindling to only eight
teams in the 1950s. At this point, the league transformed the game with the addition of the shot
clock. The shot clock in the NBA is 24 seconds, meaning the offensive team has 24 seconds from
the time they inbound the ball until the ball hits the rim on their side of the court. This addition
increased the pace of the game and made it more fun for fans to watch. Their transformation
worked, and the league returned to a financially stable one in the 1960/70s. Today, the NBA has
millions of fans from all walks of life, all over the world. The league now consists of 30 teams
from various states in North America as well as one team from Canada. The teams are divided into
two conferences and then three divisions of five teams each. To play the sport of basketballthere are

How Literacy Is Used As A Communication Method
When it comes to understanding literacy I learned that reading, along with writing is used as a
communication method. However, there s so much more to it than just obtaining the knowledge
of knowing how to read and write. It all truly depends on the way you use your skills in
literature. Literacy is different to each and every person, depending on who they are as a person.
It can consist of your culture, pronunciation, the way you dress, as well as all of your actions.
That being said, personally literature means not only knowing how to read and write, but the way
we approach it as an individual. For example, we are judged by the waywe speak, look, act, where

Philippines s Macroeconomic Perspective Of The...
Philippines repeatedly experienced boom and bust in its economy since 1980. Having faced
huge debt crisis in 1983 and the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, it can be said that the nation is
back on its feet from being the sick man of Asia to a tiger cub, and becoming realigned with the
ASEAN 6 (Worldbank). The GDP growth has been growing at 4.5 percent under Macapagal
Arroyo and even better under Aquino s at 6 percent. Account balances also recorded surpluses
repeatedly since 2003 (CIA Factbook).
There are many factors that played to this growth, clean governance, better tax collection, the
growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and the remittances by over 4 million overseas
Filipino workers (OFW). Despite this growth, poverty is still among the challenge of the country.
With a population of over 99 million (est. 2014), 25.2 percent is still living under poverty line (CIA
Factbook). By discussing the topics mentioned above this report will further deliver the
macroeconomic perspective of the Philippines.
Aquino s Administration Benigno Aquino III, the son of former president Cory Aquino, became
the 15th President of the Philippines in 2010. Under his term which will end in 2016, he
achieved high numbers in terms of GDP growth. In 2011, GDP was recorded at 3.2 percent

Bootstrap Approach On Data Sampling Essay
Bootstrap Approach in Data Sampling
As shown in the previous chapter, the basic samples of data needed to calculate the confidence
intervals have distributions which depart from the traditional parametric distributions. Thus,
classical hypothesis testing procedures based on strong parametric assumptions cannot be used to
estimate the confidence intervals. In order to obtain results as reliable as possible, a statistical
technique which is applicable regardless of the form of the data probability density function has to
be utilized. In other words, this method should make no assumption about the different data
distributions. One good candidate is the bootstrap method.
The idea about bootstrapping is that we don t have enough data. To illustrate this technique, we
consider a clothing shop selling second clothing. In a week, sales per day varies with day. The
second week analysis also, shows a different trend to first week. As a business owner, one would
like to determine the customer behaviour and pattern so that planning can be done effectively to
ensure customer satisfaction. Therefore, an average or mean sales need to be determine for the
first week. This is done by taking resample data from the main data sample, which will produce a
distribution sample as indicated in (a) and (b) for week 2. The t test statistical analysis will not be
the reasonable method to determine the resalable mean value since it will recognise both (a) and
(b) as normal distribution, thus giving a

Descriptive Essay On Rockefeller Chapel
Rockefeller Chapel is an enormous space neither religious nor secular, but teetering on the rims
of both in its uses as a prayer hall, concert space, and location for the College s convocation
ceremony. On April 22nd, 2017, the chapel is used as a divine space, bringing two religions, two
cultures, and numerous ethnicities together in A Meeting of Two Seas, a concert celebrating the
contributions of Hindus and Muslims to the arts of South Asia. As a performer, I enter
Rockefeller Chapel through its West Entrance, two hours before the concert begins for a quick
rehearsal and sound check I am an insider, not only as a Carnatic vocalist, but as a Hindu, who has
observed the rifts between Hindus and Muslims, which have lasted seemingly through antiquity.
Through the concert, I hope to observe a beautiful amalgamation of these two religions and
cultures and possibly, see the rifts begin to subside. Before guests begin to usher in, I take a seat
in the front row next to my friends and fellow performers and prepare to take notes for my sketch.
My friends giggle and chatter about their daily struggles, tuning out the sitar music playing softly in
the background, but I tell them to quiet down so that I can pay attention during the concert. After a
brief introduction from co hosts Nikhil and Nur Banu, Minu Pasupathi, one of my South Asian
Music Ensemble (SAME) directors, ascends the stage to perform the first act, an assemblage of two
unconventional Carnatic pieces: Allahvai

The Importance Of Word Superiority On Word Recognition
The purpose of this essay is to evaluate the effects of word frequency and superiority on word
recognition when considering three models of lexical access with these being the logogen,
frequency ordered bin search (FOBS) and TRACE models. Included in this analysis empirical
proof from research studies will be considered. It is vital to understand the relevance of the word
frequency and superiority effects before contemplating their role in the models of lexical access.
Word frequency is often associated with Balota and Chumbley (1984) as their research,
comprising of three experiments using 20 participants, demonstrates that the time taken to respond
to a high frequency, commonly occurring words was shorter than that of a low frequency when
recognising words. Contrasting this, Mosell, Doyle and Haggard (1989) observed this effect on a
lexical decision and then a semantic categorisation task. Their findings demonstrate that word
frequency and response time are equally related in all tasks involving word identification. Balota
and Chumbley (1990) responded to the criticism as they remain confident in their own findings
supporting the view that word frequency demonstrates that words we encounter on a daily basis
require a shorter response time. The purpose of the word superiority effect is explored in Reicher s
(1969) study which used 9 female students. After being extensively tested via forced choice letter
recognition on ability to recognise varying stimuli (4 letter words

How Did The Czech Republic Influence The World
Ask the average American to name one influential person from the Czech Republic and you will
likely be met with blank stares. However, without the Czech people, the world would look a lot
different. Imagine a world without Protestantism, without universal education, without contact
lenses. Then, the cultural influence of the Czech Republicbecomes clear.
A century before Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to a church door, Czech priest Jan Hus had
already begun protesting the Catholic church. Although he was burned at the stake for heresy, he
left behind writings that later helped spark the Protestant Reformation, an event that would change
the course of history forever. A Czech man also changed education forever. It is difficult to find a...

In the aftermath of World War II, the Soviet Uniontook control of Czechoslovakia. These
communist rulers encouraged the arts as long as artists supported communist rule. Ironically, it
would be the arts that led to their downfall. A group of writers pushing for an end to censorship led
to the start of Prague Spring, a hopeful time of democratic reforms in the 1960s. However, the
Soviet army brutally crushed this peaceful revolt shortly after. The Czech people could have been
discouraged by this, disillusioned by the thought of using peace as a method for throwing off
oppression. But they were not. In 1989, another writer, this time a playwright by the name of
Vaclav Havel, again led a peaceful revolution. The Velvet Revolution successfully ended
Communism in the Czech Republic and led to the democracy the Czech Republic enjoys today. The
fighters in this revolution were not armies, but artists. Across the country, theater companies
advocated for strikes and protest. This revolution showed that the biggest threat to communism
came from neither weaponry nor militaries, but from art and the uniting of the common people. As
president of the newly independent Czechoslovakia, Havel allowed the nation to split in two
without any fighting or bloodshed. As ethnic conflicts ravaged Yugoslavia and destroyed Rwanda,
Czechoslovakia demonstrated a peaceful resolution of

Vincent Van Gogh And Oscar Wilde s The Decay Of Lying
Things as They Really Are
In his essay The Decay of Lying , Oscar Wilde wrote, No great artist ever sees things as they
really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist. This prominent playwright believed that the
purpose of art stood in distortion and adornment. However, in comparing Point Reyes Country
Road by Asha Carolyn Young and Wheatfield with Crows by Vincent van Gogh
, I made the
conclusion that the Wilde s statement is false. Many different forms of art exist, and whether it is
realistic, abstract, or anything else; all art styles should be recognized as art . Although the style is
different, the result that they provide to the audience is the same a reaction in a human sense or
emotion.

Young s painting comes from the coast of North California, on a bright summer day, possibly on
the way to Point Reyes National Seashore for a vacation. Born privileged, Young lives with hope
and faith in Art and the Great Spirit. Van Gogh s painting comes from Auvers sur Oise, a rural
area in France while he struggled with financial instability and other mental issues. Van Gogh shot
himself, but a month before his demise, he produced more than 70 pieces of art. Because
Wheatfield with Crows was the last piece of his life, the emotions that he felt throughout his poor,
disregarded, and sordid life were condensed into this one painting. That changes a lot of things
about how the audience views the painting, doesn t it? Art can tell people s stories even through

The Purpose Of The Milgram Experiment
The Milgram Experiment is one of the most famous studies in psychology. It was carried out by
Stanley Milgram, a psychologist from Yale University. The purpose of the experiment was to
study how far people would go in obeying an instruction from an authority figure if it involved
hurting another person. Milgram wanted to study whether Germans were more obedient to
authority as this was what people believed was the main reason for Nazi killings in World War
II. 40 males were chosen to participate in the study, and were paid $4.50 for attending. The
experiment was carried out as follows: participants were introduced to a partner, although they
were all actors the pairs drew straws to see who was going to be acting as a learner, and who
would be acting as a teacher. This part of the experiment was rigged so the unknowing
participants would always be the teacher the pairs were split up into seperate rooms where the
learner was strapped to an electric chair the learner has already learned a list of word pairs that
were given to him, and the teacher tests them by naming a word and asking the learner to recall
its pair. the teacher was told to give an electric shock every time the learned made a mistake.
There was a different voltage of shock each time, ranging from 15 to 450 volts. The teacher did not
know, but the shocks were not actually administered. The learner made mistakes on purpose, and
faked harm when they were electrocuted . If the teacher did not want to

Conformity And Rebellion In Popular Culture Analysis
Conformity and Rebellion in Popular Culture and Sexuality In the first lecture for this class,
Professor Creekmur asked the question; is sex popular (Creekmur Aug. 20)? As he often does in
the course, Creekmur doesn t give a simple, clear cut answer, but instead offers a paradox, that
while sex is an aggressively private act, it is also a good that is consumed, in our magazines and
on our televisions. This paradox ultimately sets the stage for the rest of this class, demonstrating
how something as intimate as one s sexuality can come to reinforce popular conventions of
normalcy and deviancy within society at large, and what this essay will attempt to address.
One of the first ideas that Professor Creekmur introduced to class was the fact ... Show more content

Documenting her travel to the Kinsey Institute in 2004, as well as providing some modern
insights into the effects of Kinsey s work, Karen Winkler also provides an interesting glimpse
into how Kinsey s challenges to the scientific and social orthodoxy regarding sexuality has led to
intense backlash that persists to this day in Kinsey, Sex Research, and the Body of Knowledge:
Let s Talk About Sex. Specifically, Winkler references groups like the Traditional Values
Coalition, which to this day continue to lobby Congress and the National Institute of Health to cut
funding to sex research (Winkler). Using unsubstantiated charges like accusing Kinsey of
pedophilia and child pornography as a means of discrediting his work, this continuing smear
campaign of Kinsey s work is indicative of what often happens when challenges to popular
conceptions of normalcy are confronted by conservative forces; challenges of sexual and moral
deviancy, very similar to how bachelors were often accused of homosexuality in the immediate

It can also be argued that it has been a detriment. Since 1988, when the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was passed, it has been providing a means of income for the tribes that participate. Indian gaming is beneficial to tribes and surrounding communities because it creates economic stability for the tribes, provides well paying jobs, and economic benefits for surrounding communities and the state. Indian gaming has created wealth for some tribes, but for most tribes it has made them economically stable. Part of the reason for success in Indian gaming was the route most tribes took. By starting conservatively and using temporary buildings, in some cases, tribes were able to smartly and carefully begin in the gaming industry (Akee, Spilde, and Taylor 196). Not all tribes use gaming as their primary source of income, but it is another revenue source that makes things stable. For example: If there are 5 platforms in total, the first platform is 4 feet and the increase in height is 2 feet, the height of the platforms in order are: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12. An investigation had started on September 2nd but they were still trying to discover the actual scope and impact of the breach. Home Depot was one of the many victims to a retail data breach in 2014. The unfortunate thing is the way the attacker s infiltrated the POS networks and how the attackers were able to steal the payment card data, were the same methods used in the Target data breach. By ignoring the warnings created from the breach at Target, Home Depot allowed the attackers to use similar methods that could have been easily defended. Through the use of a third party vendor s logon credentials, the attackers were able to gain access. Then they exploited a zero day vulnerability in Windows, which allowed them to pivot from the vendor specific environment to the Home Depot corporate environment. Since both networks were linked, this was very easy. Once they were in the Home Depot network, they were able install memory scraping malware on over 7,500 self checkout POS terminals. The GDP growth has been growing at 4.5 percent under Macapagal Arroyo and even better under Aquino s at 6 percent. Account balances also recorded surpluses repeatedly since 2003 (CIA Factbook). • 41. Bootstrap Approach On Data Sampling Essay Bootstrap Approach in Data Sampling As shown in the previous chapter, the basic samples of data needed to calculate the confidence intervals have distributions which depart from the traditional parametric distributions. Thus, classical hypothesis testing procedures based on strong parametric assumptions cannot be used to estimate the confidence intervals. In order to obtain results as reliable as possible, a statistical technique which is applicable regardless of the form of the data probability density function has to be utilized. In other words, this method should make no assumption about the different data distributions. One good candidate is the bootstrap method. The idea about bootstrapping is that we don t have enough data. To illustrate this technique, we consider a clothing shop selling second clothing. In a week, sales per day varies with day. The second week analysis also, shows a different trend to first week. As a business owner, one would like to determine the customer behaviour and pattern so that planning can be done effectively to ensure customer satisfaction. Therefore, an average or mean sales need to be determine for the first week. This is done by taking resample data from the main data sample, which will produce a distribution sample as indicated in (a) and (b) for week 2. The t test statistical analysis will not be the reasonable method to determine the resalable mean value since it will recognise both (a) and (b) as normal distribution, thus giving a ... The Importance Of Word Superiority On Word Recognition The purpose of this essay is to evaluate the effects of word frequency and superiority on word recognition when considering three models of lexical access with these being the logogen, frequency ordered bin search (FOBS) and TRACE models. Included in this analysis empirical proof from research studies will be considered. It is vital to understand the relevance of the word frequency and superiority effects before contemplating their role in the models of lexical access. Word frequency is often associated with Balota and Chumbley (1984) as their research, comprising of three experiments using 20 participants, demonstrates that the time taken to respond to a high frequency, commonly occurring words was shorter than that of a low frequency when recognising words. Contrasting this, Mosell, Doyle and Haggard (1989) observed this effect on a lexical decision and then a semantic categorisation task. Their findings demonstrate that word frequency and response time are equally related in all tasks involving word identification. Balota and Chumbley (1990) responded to the criticism as they remain confident in their own findings supporting the view that word frequency demonstrates that words we encounter on a daily basis require a shorter response time. The purpose of the word superiority effect is explored in Reicher s (1969) study which used 9 female students. After being extensively tested via forced choice letter recognition on ability to recognise varying stimuli (4 letter words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. How Did The Czech Republic Influence The World Ask the average American to name one influential person from the Czech Republic and you will likely be met with blank stares. However, without the Czech people, the world would look a lot different. Imagine a world without Protestantism, without universal education, without contact lenses. Then, the cultural influence of the Czech Republicbecomes clear. A century before Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to a church door, Czech priest Jan Hus had already begun protesting the Catholic church. Although he was burned at the stake for heresy, he left behind writings that later helped spark the Protestant Reformation, an event that would change the course of history forever. A Czech man also changed education forever. It is difficult to find a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the aftermath of World War II, the Soviet Uniontook control of Czechoslovakia. These communist rulers encouraged the arts as long as artists supported communist rule. Ironically, it would be the arts that led to their downfall. A group of writers pushing for an end to censorship led to the start of Prague Spring, a hopeful time of democratic reforms in the 1960s. However, the Soviet army brutally crushed this peaceful revolt shortly after. The Czech people could have been discouraged by this, disillusioned by the thought of using peace as a method for throwing off oppression. But they were not. In 1989, another writer, this time a playwright by the name of Vaclav Havel, again led a peaceful revolution. The Velvet Revolution successfully ended Communism in the Czech Republic and led to the democracy the Czech Republic enjoys today. The fighters in this revolution were not armies, but artists. Across the country, theater companies advocated for strikes and protest. This revolution showed that the biggest threat to communism came from neither weaponry nor militaries, but from art and the uniting of the common people. As president of the newly independent Czechoslovakia, Havel allowed the nation to split in two without any fighting or bloodshed. As ethnic conflicts ravaged Yugoslavia and destroyed Rwanda, Czechoslovakia demonstrated a peaceful resolution of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Vincent Van Gogh And Oscar Wilde s The Decay Of Lying Things as They Really Are In his essay The Decay of Lying , Oscar Wilde wrote, No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist. This prominent playwright believed that the purpose of art stood in distortion and adornment. However, in comparing Point Reyes Country Road by Asha Carolyn Young and Wheatfield with Crows by Vincent van Gogh , I made the conclusion that the Wilde s statement is false. Many different forms of art exist, and whether it is realistic, abstract, or anything else; all art styles should be recognized as art . Although the style is different, the result that they provide to the audience is the same a reaction in a human sense or emotion. Even at first glance, you can tell ... Born privileged, Young lives with hope and faith in Art and the Great Spirit. Van Gogh s painting comes from Auvers sur Oise, a rural area in France while he struggled with financial instability and other mental issues. Van Gogh shot himself, but a month before his demise, he produced more than 70 pieces of art. Because Wheatfield with Crows was the last piece of his life, the emotions that he felt throughout his poor, disregarded, and sordid life were condensed into this one painting. That changes a lot of things about how the audience views the painting, doesn t it? Art can tell people s stories even through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Purpose Of The Milgram Experiment The Milgram Experiment is one of the most famous studies in psychology. It was carried out by Stanley Milgram, a psychologist from Yale University. The purpose of the experiment was to study how far people would go in obeying an instruction from an authority figure if it involved hurting another person. Milgram wanted to study whether Germans were more obedient to authority as this was what people believed was the main reason for Nazi killings in World War II. 40 males were chosen to participate in the study, and were paid $4.50 for attending. The experiment was carried out as follows: participants were introduced to a partner, although they were all actors the pairs drew straws to see who was going to be acting as a learner, and who would be acting as a teacher. This part of the experiment was rigged so the unknowing participants would always be the teacher the pairs were split up into seperate rooms where the learner was strapped to an electric chair the learner has already learned a list of word pairs that were given to him, and the teacher tests them by naming a word and asking the learner to recall its pair. the teacher was told to give an electric shock every time the learned made a mistake. There was a different voltage of shock each time, ranging from 15 to 450 volts. The teacher did not know, but the shocks were not actually administered. The learner made mistakes on purpose, and faked harm when they were electrocuted . If the teacher did not want to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Conformity And Rebellion In Popular Culture Analysis Conformity and Rebellion in Popular Culture and Sexuality In the first lecture for this class, Professor Creekmur asked the question; is sex popular (Creekmur Aug. 20)? As he often does in the course, Creekmur doesn t give a simple, clear cut answer, but instead offers a paradox, that while sex is an aggressively private act, it is also a good that is consumed, in our magazines and on our televisions. This paradox ultimately sets the stage for the rest of this class, demonstrating how something as intimate as one s sexuality can come to reinforce popular conventions of normalcy and deviancy within society at large, and what this essay will attempt to address. One of the first ideas that Professor Creekmur introduced to class was the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Documenting her travel to the Kinsey Institute in 2004, as well as providing some modern insights into the effects of Kinsey s work, Karen Winkler also provides an interesting glimpse into how Kinsey s challenges to the scientific and social orthodoxy regarding sexuality has led to intense backlash that persists to this day in Kinsey, Sex Research, and the Body of Knowledge: Let s Talk About Sex. Specifically, Winkler references groups like the Traditional Values Coalition, which to this day continue to lobby Congress and the National Institute of Health to cut funding to sex research (Winkler). Using unsubstantiated charges like accusing Kinsey of pedophilia and child pornography as a means of discrediting his work, this continuing smear campaign of Kinsey s work is indicative of what often happens when challenges to popular conceptions of normalcy are confronted by conservative forces; challenges of sexual and moral deviancy, very similar to how bachelors were often accused of homosexuality in the immediate postwar ...
