Analysis Essay Format
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Analysis Essay Format" can be a challenging endeavor. The
difficulty lies in the intricate balance required to provide a comprehensive analysis while
adhering to a structured format. This task demands not only a deep understanding of the subject
matter but also a keen awareness of the nuances associated with essay writing.
The process begins with thorough research, as a strong foundation is crucial for an analytical
essay. Gathering relevant information and identifying key points for analysis are preliminary
steps that set the tone for the entire essay. The challenge intensifies when one must sift through
an abundance of sources, ensuring that the selected information aligns with the essay's focus.
Structuring the analysis poses another hurdle. Striking the right balance between introduction,
body, and conclusion is paramount. The introduction should captivate the reader's attention,
provide context, and establish a clear thesis statement. The body paragraphs must delve into the
analysis, presenting evidence and supporting arguments coherently. Transitioning between ideas
while maintaining a logical flow adds an additional layer of complexity.
Moreover, incorporating a critical perspective requires finesse. Effectively evaluating and
interpreting information without bias demands a nuanced approach. Balancing objectivity and
subjectivity becomes crucial, as the analysis should not be a mere summary but a thoughtful
examination that offers unique insights.
The conclusion must synthesize the analysis without introducing new information, leaving a
lasting impression on the reader. Striking the right chord between summarization and leaving a
thought-provoking message requires careful consideration.

Informative Essay On Soul Surfer
I dug my toes into the white sand of Tunnels Beach, Kauai, Hawaii. I stared off into
the waves and the horizon as I waited impatiently for pro surfer and author of Soul

am hoping to discuss Bethany s life, including her attack and her book. Bethany s

In my opinion, we all could learn a thing or two from Bethany. Her faith, kindness,
determination and courage are inspiring. It s astonishing that after such a
traumatic experience, Bethany was able to overcome all the obstacles and
continue to surf and live her dream. Even with one arm, she was able to
accomplish unbelievable things. It s hard to feel empathetic for Bethany, most of
us haven t lost a limb due to a shark attack , or could even imagine it. However, we
can all relate to experiencing setbacks in life. Bethany was not discouraged by the
attack, she was able to overcome it and became even better at surfing than she
originally was. Her grace is something we can all admire and look up

When quantity supplied do not equal quantity demanded the outcome is either excess
supply or excess demand, and a tendency for price to change. As this happen the
consumers will increase their quantity demanded, and the movement toward
equilibrium caused by excess supply is both the supply and demand sides. When the
excess supply occur quantity supplied is greater than quantity demanded. While the
reverse of excess demand quantity demanded is greater than quantity supplied. The
excess demand pushes prices upwards in decreasing the quantity demanded and
increasing the quantity supplied. This movement takes place along both the supply

Comparison Of Chicago, New York City And Detroit
Chicago, New York City, and Detroit
Today, Detroit, New York City and Chicago have many similarities They re highly
populated cities with high crime rates, many homeless people, noisy streets and
terrible traffic. In contrast, they attract many tourists with their tall skyscrapers, and
their famous attractions. As well as similarities, there s also, many differences. Today,
Chicago and New York Cityare known for having many job opportunities and luring
people in with promising careers. Whereas in Detroit, it s known to be quite hard to
find employment. These cities have gone on a long journey to get to where they re
at today. I ll be discussing Detroit s history from around 1880 to 1910 and comparing
it to the way Chicago and New York City was in the book, Sister Carrie written by
Theodore Dreiser.
From 1880 to 1910 Detroit changed dramatically. The city was under development
and was on its way to becoming a successful, and higher populated, city. According to
Detroit Historical Society, in 1880 Detroit s population consisted of over 100,000
citizens. At this time, Detroit also had a diverse community of many different
nationalities and it was known as an immigrant city.
Detroit Historical Society also states that by 1890, Detroit s population nearly
doubled reaching over 200,000. Detroit, at this time, made its ranking in the 15th
largest populated city in the nation. Many people of different backgrounds from
around the world came to settle here. By 1901,
Inappropriate Use Of Employing The Internet At The
Workplace
Many organizations experience employee abuse of the internet. This abuse of the
internet can be defined as any use of the internet for personal purposes during work
hours. This behavior can include accessing personal social media sites, blogging
sites, news sites, shopping and accessing inappropriate content such as pornographic
sites. Employees need to be aware that there are consequences for this type of abuse.
In order for organizations to protect their business interests, policies should be created
and enforced in order to protect the business and other employees from any violations
or repercussions.
Inappropriate use of the internet at the workplace is a very serious issue and can
cause a variety of issues for employers. One repercussion an employer may face
due to abuse of the internet is profit loss caused by decreased productivity, deadlines
not being met, slower response time to customers, and employees failing to complete
their assigned work. This can have a negative impact on an organizations reputation
as the standard of customer service and quality decrease and may result in poor
quality customer satisfaction. This can also cause internal strife with other
employees as they have to pick up additional work and work overtime, while seeing
others surfing the internet. While this points to the need to regulate employees use of
the internet, organizations need to be aware that it is a fine balance between
employee satisfaction and happiness, security and
Change In Song Of Solomon
Change is inevitable. People change, places change, everything is constantly
changing and evolving. Toni Morrison writes the American literature novel, The
Song of Solomon, as way to portray change and no change among people and
society during 1931 to 1963. Milkman Dead lives in an oppressive society where
there is no change. And like those around him, Milkman shows no signs of change in
the first two thirds of part one. However, towards the end he shows ways that he is
changing, which lastly emphasises the fact that he has the potential to change.

role. Whether it is punching his father in order to protect his mother and sisters, or
greedily, wanting the money, Milkman is unable to grow and change because of his
family and overall society (page 179). However, Guitar telling Milkman about The
Seven Days society is a pivotal part in his new perspective because he is gaining an
opinion for himself. Guitar try to justify joining the Seven Days and the killings that
they do by saying, it s necessary and that it s got to be done. To keep the ratio the

at the age of four. However now, because Milkman has a personal connection to

Unusual Languages of the World
Jenn Beckmann
Part 1
2. Define pidgin and creole and explain the difference between them.
Pidgins and creoles are both languages that occur when two people of different
languages are communicating (p.232). In order to define a pidgin, it is important
to look at the process in which a pidgin develops. When contact between speakers
of two different languages occurs and they begin to create ways of communication
through words and phrases, pre pidgin is developing. A pidgin develops as a new
language when the original group or several groups of people begin using the pre
pidgin to communicate as the common language. The pidgin is then being used as the
lingua franca (p. 233). Depending on the use of the language, there is also a
restricted pidgin and expanded pidgin. Restricted pidgin is only used when
necessary for communication and typically has small vocabulary and little
grammar. Expanded pidgin is a pidgin that is used everyday and in different
entities such as religion or the government. This type of pidgin has an expanded
vocabulary and grammar. On the other hand, a creole is a pidgin that children learn
and use as their first language. With children learn the language as their first, it will
expand to community usage. Gramatics are much more complex in a creole as is
the vocabulary of the language (p.234). There are differences between a pidgin and
creole that can be defined. A pidgin is spoken between people of different languages
with less vocabulary and

My initial inspiration for this piece was Trifles, which funnily enough only shares
the characteristic of detectives being involved within the plot. As per suggestion
on my proposal, I developed my idea of detectives solving a case further by
including dialogue and inter personnel relationships similar to those found in
Glengarry Glen Ross. Taking the idea of different members of the real estate office
discussing work and plotting in Glengarry Glen Ross, and applying them to a trio
of detectives on a case was interesting to say the least. Upon first thinking of what I
wanted to get across, I knew that some form of conspiracy was going to be present.

This is why towards the end of the play he walks off stage never to return. Chris, I
wrote with the intention of making him an arrogant jerk, or someone that you
would hate to work with. James countered his personality to some extent, or would
have if the victim had not been his friend. I made this a point so that James would
be off his game, so to speak. This would justify in Chris s mind why he would need
to act on the chief s wishes and kill James. In regards to the ending, I chose to end
the play on an ill fitting monologue of sorts. It was jarring enough to not fit the way
the rest of the dialogue was given during the bulk of the play, for I wanted to get
across that Chris was far worse of a person than just being arrogant. James in the
end lets his anger with Chris subside to the point that he may think that Chris is
trying to apologize by offering to get him a drink. This thought will inevitably
prove to be another lack of judgment by James. Overall, the process of writing a
play was a fun experience that I would like to come back to at some point in time,
possibly to expand this story in which I have now crafted. Creating three distinct
characters was quite a challenge, and writing a story with nothing but dialogue for
the most part was also difficult; for the most part it is miles apart from writing
fiction. Drawing inspiration from Glengarry Glen Ross helped set
Technological Advancements In Space Exploration
For all of humankind s existence, people have gazed at the cosmos in wonderment,
trying to wrap their minds around the complexities of the universe. Scientist and
researchers are on the brink of finally being able to learn about the way the universe
works. It has only been in the past few decades where researchers have been able to
use current technology to efficiently collect information and process it. There have
been many achievements that are due to the work in space science. NASAhas
contributed to creating many technologies such as ventricular assist devices, artificial
limbs, anti icing systems, video enhancing and analysis systems, to even enriched
baby food. NASA has led to various ways of improvement in society with their work
in space exploration. The technological advancements are in addition to the main
goal of space exploration, which is to gain a better understanding of the
fundamental laws of space. There needs to be an increase in funding for NASA so
they can conduct research to understand Earth as well as the rest of the celestial
bodies in space. By comprehending the objects in space, they can be utilized.
Mining asteroids could lead to a new found source of material that could provide
resources that are not easily accessible. Their research helps in exploring space,
working towards the point of traversing space to inhabit other worlds. People
generally have favorable opinions of NASA and their research but think that too
much money is spent in that field.

Your plans for planting flowers should begin in the middle of winter. Landscaping
for the birds is begun by trees and bushes. Some flowers attract birds of certain
types. The birds are not always in need of the blossoms themselves. They are in
need of the seeds which come later. The different types of daisies form seeds which
are generous and nutritious. The seeds are then left for the birds to feed on. When
the seed heads have been dried, you will get sparrows, finches, cardinals, and
towhes. This is why you should avoid deadheading all the blossoms once blooming
is over. The blossoms will appear first. In winter, your garden will bloom with
finches and cardinals. Zinnias are easy flowers for one to grow. Birds love them
for their seeds. The colors that you choose are very important. The zinnias will
attract butterflies to your yard and these will provide food for the birds.

The George Hotel s Prospects for the future
The George Hotel is a controversial project that will bring much needed rejuvenation

much needed employment opportunities to the sunshine coast. This expansion to
our waterfront will also bring with it a boost in tourism and keep the bustling
culture of lower Gibsons alive. With this project comes heavy opposition from
people all over the Sunshine Coast. Many people feel that the design of this project
is not aesthetically pleasing and will not fit in with the quaint style of our town. I
would like to pose the question what is the style of this town? Is there a style of
architecture that is recognizable feature of Gibsons or does the the differentiation
of all buildings make Gibsons unique. One other problem that has been posed is the
breaking of the OCP height restrictions. The proposed height for The George is 25
metres which is approximately 8 stories, double the current OCP restrictions. People
worry that if we were to change the rules for one building would other developers
run in and try slip under the rules too. For this town to further flourish we need to
think about changing some of the rules of the OCP to allow projects that will help
further our community culturally, and economically. Economically speaking The
George will provide many full and part time jobs for residents of the Sunshine Coast.

Siddhartha Gautama, Or The Buddha
Siddhartha Gautama, or the Buddha, founded Buddhism once he reached a state of
dharma at age twenty nine. Once he founded Buddhism, he travelled the world trying
to spread his philosophy. Buddha preached that the biggest hallucination in life is the
tangible world. While spreading Buddhism, he converted a small portion of South
Asia. Buddhismwas developed throughout South Asia by the main political powers
of AЕ›oka and the Tang Dynasty. AЕ›oka, the Mauryan Dynasty s third king ruled
the empire at its peak. The Mauryan Dynasty Empire swept the majority of South
Asia. Accepting of other religions, AЕ›oka had access to a variety of people and
religions residing in his reign. However, the king remained in his traditional
Buddhist ways and it showed throughout his rule. AЕ›oka wanted to spread dharma
to his people, so he had the Pillar Edicts made, the first tangible evidence of
Buddhism scripture carved into stone. These pieces of stone have Asoka s ideas
on animal justice, his religious and moral standings, and social welfare . Having
these palpable pieces of Buddhism diffused throughout his empire for public
viewing was one of the major ways he helped spread Buddhism. The Pillar Edicts,
the stone pieces AЕ›oka had carved, shows how AЕ›oka changed his empire and
changed Buddhism. By applying Buddhism to ruling an empire, he developed
Buddhism to become more adaptable, but did not allow it lose its purity. The Fourth

Themes In The Golden Girls
The Golden Girls is an iconic television show set in 1980 s Miami that not only
provides insight to aging in America through humor, but sometimes lectures the
viewer on social topics with an obvious liberal agenda. Even though I have
probably viewed every episode hundreds of times over the past thirty years, I still
find myself eager to watch it every night at bedtime to end the stresses of the day
on a happy note. I do not always agree with the opinions expressed by the
characters or the outcome of a particular episode. However, I still come back for
more each night because most episodes end on a happy note, and that allows me to
drift into sleep with a little less stress on my mind. For seven seasons, . . . the
series won several awards during its run, including 11 Emmys and four Golden
Globes (MTSU). The creator of the show, Susan Harris, also created the 1970 s
show called Soap. Both shows were produced by Paul Junger Witt and Tony
Thomas (Golden Girls: Miami Spice). While I was very young during Soap s run on
television, I have seen reruns of it a few times. It most definitely has liberal agenda
themes that are presented with humor like The Golden Girls. However, it was
presented in poor taste in its acting and storylines to present a message that could
have been construed as offensive to much of the audience back in the 1970 s. It is
very rare to talk to someone today that has even heard of Soap and it certainly has not
reached cult like status
“A Raisin in the Sun”
Lorraine Hansberry used symbolism in her successful drama, A Raisin in the Sun to
portray emotions felt in the lives of her characters and possible her own. Hansberry
set her piece in Chicago s South Side, probably the early 1950 s. During this period in
history, many African Americans, like the Youngers, struggled to overcome the well
known prejudices that were far too familiar. The main scene, in this touching realist
drama, is the home of the Youngers, an overcrowded run down apartment. Hansberry
used this private scenery to enhance the many feelings the Youngers, and other
African Americans, fought to conquer and to embrace in the name of happiness.

Hansberry, not only, played on the condition of the apartment; she used the size as
well. The condition alone portrayed the despair and oppression the Youngers felt,
but Hansberry wanted to make their struggle to suppress depression undeniable. She
did this by placing the family of five, soon to be six, in a two bedroom apartment
with no bathroom. This small, cramped apartment also symbolized the pressures
from society to divvy up the limited resources partitioned for African Americans. By
setting the scene this way, Hansberry also was able to set the mood. The feelingof
tension and need for the characters to fight for their fair share is apparent in the
opening act, as Ruth rushes Travis into the bathroom before the neighbors. These
feelings serve as a foundation for the problems in act three between brother and
sister, Ruth s motive to have an abortion, and represent an explanation to the need so
many African Americans felt to compete against each other. Hansberry characterized
the lack of resources, a common theme here, not only in the lack of space, but also
in the lack of food, money, and sunlight. As conflict intensified in the small space,
Mama realized that her be loved family was falling apart and only the reality of
owning a home could bring unity. To overcome the mountains of negative emotions
the Youngers turn to their beckons of hope. The three main symbolic items Hansberry
used were Mama s
DNS Essay
The Domain Name System or DNS is an international address system developed to
ensure that every computer connected to the Internet has its own address. DNS
assigns addresses to Internet web servers [10]. However, in the DNS system, that
address is actually a set of numbers like 173.194.39.78. This set of numbers is called
the computer s Internet Protocol (IP) address.
The Domain Name System is most often described as the Internet s phone book or
address book. All of us Internet users use it on daily basis without even realizing it.
Its basic task is to convert human readable website name like coursera.org into its
computer readable numerical IP address like 107.21.240.231.Since such strings of
numbers are difficult for humans to memorize, DNS allows you to assign a domain
name, such as facebook.com to you IP address. So, the domain name is simply an
address on the Internet. It has to be unique just like physical address or phone number.
Computers (and other network devices like smartphones or tablets) use IP
addresses to identify each other on the network and route your request to the site
you are trying to access. It is just like dialing a phone number to reach the person
you want to talk to, but thanks to DNS, you don t need to maintain your own
address book of IP addresses. You will simply connect via DNS server (also called
domain name server or just name server ). Domain name system servers match
domain names like coursera.org to their associated IP addresses.

Darfur Issues
Being ransacked, raped, and pillaged, and most of all, murdered and driven out of
your homes, all by your government? These were the horrors about 100 native tribes
faced in a region of Sudan named Darfur in 2003. The government of Sudan took up
arms against these villages for a number of reasons, here including the ongoing fight
between the native farmers and nomads, the Sudanese government being corrupt, and
the struggle between the villagers/farmers and their government.

military Coup, therefore allowing the National Islamic Front to worsen the problems.
Weapons started to flow into Darfur because of these conflicts, and little by little the

Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own Essay
Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own
Missing works cited
In A Room of One s Own, Virginia Woolf ponders the plight of women throughout
history. Woolf reads the lives of women and concludes that if a woman were to have
written she would have had to overcome enormous circumstances (Woolf xi). Woolf s
initial thesis is that a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to
write fiction (Woolf 4). Throughout the book, however, she develops other important
conditions for artistic creation. Woolf mentions many nineteenth century female
writers in order to explain these conditions, but she does not mention Mary
Shelley. Woolf most likely excludes the author of Frankenstein because her writing

Rejection and discouragement from family, friends, and society fills her life. Because
the world will not permit the expression of her genius, she eventually commits
suicide. Woolf argues that like ?Shakespeare?s sister,? any woman ?born with a gift
for poetry in the sixteenth century was an unhappy woman, a woman at strife against
herself? (Woolf 50). Although the circumstances of female writers greatly improve
over the next 300 years, Woolf finds that ?even in the nineteenth century a woman
was not encouraged to be an artist. On the contrary, she was snubbed, slapped,
lectured and exhorted? (Woolf 55). Despite the great odds against her, a few women
managed to disregard their discouraging environments and write successfully. The
conditions that they overcame amaze Woolf: ?What genius, what integrity it must
have required in face of all that criticism, in the midst of that purely patriarchal
society to hold fast to the thing as they saw it without shrinking? (Woolf 74).
Unlike most nineteenth century female writers, Mary Shelley is supported in her
intellectual pursuits throughout her life. Although society discourages female
writers, her family surrounds her with constant encouragement. Shelley comes from a
background of famous radical writers. The political and moral writings of her father,
William Godwin, are extremely influential during the time. Her feminist mother,
Mary Wollstonecraft, writes the controversial book, A

I don t remember how old I was, or even what grade I was in. After all, several
decades have gone by since then. What I do recall is my utter disbelief the day my
mother suddenly altered our usual homework chatter. Typically, I d shout out how

three at a time. But not that day. What do you mean, look it up myself? I hollered

How Does Pip Present London In Great Expectations
London and the Change it Mirrors Corruption is a major role in modern life as
well as in Charles Dickens novel, Great Expectations. Pip, the main character in his
novel, experiences this corruption first hand. Through imagery, asyndeton, and the
judgement from Pip, Dickens expresses to the reader that London mirrors a big
change in Pip. Asyndeton as well as Pip s Judgment and views on his atmosphere,
indicate Pip s feelings towards London and how the city reflects the developments
in him. When Pip first gets to London, he makes very quick judgments about his
surroundings and refuses to let up from those opinions. He says, I was scared by
the immensity of London, I think I might have had some faint doubts whether it was
not rather ugly, crooked, narrow, and dirty (Dickens 144). Dickens uses slight
asyndeton at the end of the quote when he writes, ugly, crooked, narrow, and dirty.
This is an indication that Pip s thoughts are very fast and also exhibits his narrow
view of the atmosphere. He is so keen on finding what is wrong... Show more content

Pip meets Joe in London after not seeing him since he left the marshes; Joe treats
Pip like an acquaintance instead of a life long friend when he says, And so GOD
bless you, dear old Pip, old chap, GOD bless you! (Dickens 201). The repetition of
the word old is a metaphor for how old Pip and Joe s relationship is and how it is
losing steam. They are no longer friends, they are barely acquaintances, and the
change is reflected in this quote. There is also some nervousness shown. The
repetition of GOD bless you shows that Joe is nervous to be around his former best
pal, Pip, because of their social class difference. Joe recognizes the change in Pip
which is why he is nervous. In the first few chapters of Pip s journey to London, he
finds himself in a typical neighborhood in the city and

Fair Working Conditions In Lyddie, By Katherine Paterson
In the 1800 factories, working conditions are unfair. In Lyddie, by Katherine

that the park actually gets its name from huge glaciers shaped formations over 10,000

A Very Brief Look at Ireland
An old myth claims that St.Patrick used his to scare all the snakes into sea.
Therefore, there are no snakes in Ireland. Ireland gained it s independence from
Great Britain in 1937. The head of Ireland is still under Britain s command. Before
Ireland became a country, Ireland was covered in ice and snow, during the the Last
Glacial Maximum. The Last Glacial Maximum is the era when ice covered northern
Europe, Asia, and America, which was about 20,000 years ago. Irelandis the sixth
richest country in the world, which is surprising because it is mostly farm land.
Around 600 and 800 B.C. Celtic tribes began to settle on Ireland. Around the 12th
century Britain took the Irish s independence. During the potato famine, in the 1840s,
farmers dug up potatoes then a day after the potatoes became slimy, blackish, mass of
rottenness . About 1 1/4 million Irish left their homes. They took ships Canada and
America hoping for a better life.
On 1916, Easter Monday, Ireland started a Rebellion. The IRA , Irish Republican
Army, fought Britain for five years to win independence for 26 southern counties.
The other 6 counties are still under Britain s control. This lead to the Troubles in the
1960 s which were acts of violence on the United Kingdom Army. The United
Kingdom, United States, and Ireland was a part of a process that helped traders and
sellers which is know as The Good Friday Agreement in 1988, in Northern Ireland. In
1990, Mary Robinson changed Ireland s history by
Duterte Essay
Duterte as the country s next president
`Rodrigo Roa Duterte also known as Digong is a Filipino lawyer and politician of
Visayan descent. Duterte was among the longest serving mayors in the Philippines
and has been the mayor of Davao City for 7 terms that sums up to more than 22
years. He has also served as vice mayor and congressman in the city. With these
experiences, Rodrigo Duterte should be the next president of the Philippines.
Rodrigo Duterte deserves to be the next president of the Philippines because he has
strict implementation of laws. He has made Davao City as one of the safest country in
the world. Duterte, through Executive Order No. 24, ordered all shopping malls
and commercial centers to install, operate and maintain high end and high
definition closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras at all entrance and exit points
of their premises (Rodrigo Duterte). This executive order ensures the safety of the
people and contributes to the lessening of crimes that is happening in commercial
centers. He does not tolerate people who uses drugs and has imposed extrajudicial
killings in Davao City. He was dubbed as The Punisher by the Time Magazine

Compare And Contrast Bermuda And Living In Virginia
There are many differences between living in Bermuda and living in Virginia, while
they do have a few similarities. Such similarities being that they had both been
established by join stock companies, which had attempted to seize a profit and
support England (Roark, 57). The companies were given charters to take possession
of the land, and afterwards the people living there governed themselves. (Lecture: The
Early Colonies, 2)The differences being that when the English went to inhabit the
land, they found Virginiaintentionally and found Bermuda by coincidence.
Both regions had greatly differing types of climates and environments. Virginia had a

Listening Skills In PTE
How to improve Listening skills in PTE
Effective listening is important because it prevents miscommunication and makes a
message clearly understood. Listening is a skill which is required for all types of
communication. The process of listening involves five stages receiving,
understanding, evaluating, remembering and responding. An effective listener hear
the speech sounds directed towards him, understand the message, critically evaluate
the message, remember what is said and respond. Good listening skills help you
understand what is being asked, build rapport with the speaker, work in a team based
environment, resolve problems and uncover the meaning of what others are saying.
Listening section is one of the crucial sections of the PTE test. It assesses the ability
of the test taker how well he/she can respond clearly after listening to a set of

It is encouraging for the listener to look at the speaker. It will leave you with no
choice but to pay attention to the speaker.
Nod head: Nodding head, when you are listening is an indication that you are taking
in the information which is being conveyed by the speaker. It also shows that you
understand the speaker s feelings. You can show your understandingjust by nodding
the head or through appropriate facial expressions.
Ask questions: Asking appropriate questions is another indication that you were
attentive throughout the process. Once the speaker has finished talking, you can ask
questions or repeat his or her instructions to confirm that you understand them.
Listening is not something that just happens, but it is an active process, in which
conscious decision is made to listen and understand what is being said. When you do
not understand something, you can ask the speaker to explain it to you. But rather
than interrupting the speaker, you should wait until the speaker
The Fantasy Story
Today I #8217;d like to tell you about fantasy literature. It is very hard to tell all
about it but I #8217;ll try to do it as good as possible and not being boring. First
fantasy motifs were shown in romanticism. We all know the mystical and unreal
characters: ghosts, phantoms etc. Authors for building the special mood and charm
of that epoch used that figures.
But fantasy is something more than romantic ways of showing nature or inner
experiences of the main character in the novel. It #8217;s also not an attempt of
explaining the unreal and difficult to understand visions or event. In the course of
time it began to live it #8217;s own life more and more the writers started to use
these motifs. And what had happened? They created ... Show more content on

But one day, after many happy years on the throne, they got lost in a forest. While
walking the trees became coats and they suddenly fell out of the closet. Long years
in Narnia were just few minutes in the human world. Children have big
imagination so crossing the line between fantasies and real is not a problem, but it
is a big challenge for readers. Lewis created the magic land and as he once said:
#8221;even if all of that is imagined #8211; trees, grass, sun, moon, stars and Aslan,
there is no doubt: this imagined world is much better then the real one #8221;. The
next kinds, beloved by fantasy fans are #8220;never lands #8221;. They are
perfectly defined by one of first never lands creators Lord Dunsany. He named it as
places #8220;beyond the fields we know #8221;. And we are really crossing the
line of human perception. Authors don #8217;t blink their eye, don #8217;t pretend
like in the Venice carnival. Not everything is from the beginning land of fantasy.
Tolkien made never lands legal, gave them autonomy and independence, full rights
in authors imagination. He said that artistic imagination has no borders and cannot
be restricted by what is real. We can see what we want to see, also the land of
never. Never lands can use the cultural heritage of our world, but it all depends on
the author. Of course playing in never lands must be based on understanding and
agreement between writer and reader, we have to accept all the rules and it
Witch Hunts In The Salem Witch Trials
According to thoughtco.com the earliest know witch hunts were in B.C.E. The
Hebrew Scriptures addressed witchcraft, including Exodus 22:18 and various
verses in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. The history of witchcraft in Europe begins
with both folk beliefs and with religious and classical texts. The term witch hunt is
a campaign directed against a person or group holding unpopular views. In Europe
about 75% to 80% of those executed were women. It was also true that most of
those accused and executed were among the poorest, most marginal in society. In
some areas and times, mostly men were accused. Most of the men who were
accused or executed were connected with women who were arrested. The Salem
witch hunts began in 1692. The witch hunts in Salem started when a group of
young girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts, claimed to be possessed by the devil
and accused several local women of witchcraft. Abigail Williams was one of the
main accusers in the Salem Witch trials. Tituba was the first accused along with
Sarah Osborne and was also the first to confess. Elizabeth Parris was the daughter of
minister Samuel Parris. ElizabethВґs behavior led to the first three accusations of
witches. Rebecca Nurse was executed for witchcraft. Martha Corey was accused
and convicted of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials, alongside her second
husband, Giles Corey. Elizabeth Proctor was convicted of witchcraft in the Salem
Witch Trials of 1692. She was the wife of John Proctor, who was

This system uses the cost to retail ratio calculated against the retail value inventory to
establish the lower cost or market (Target 2010 Annual Report, n.d.). This is due to
permanent markdowns in price. These markdowns are a result of sale, damaged
goods, overstocking, and competition. Target uses a program where venders do not
charge the company for the products they stock until they are sold. These quantities
are figured into the sales of the consolidated statements of financial position, but they
are not considered inventory. Using the RIM method of inventorying, there are
multiple components needed to satisfy the equation. It needs the beginning inventory
quantity cost and retail price, current purchases cost and retail price, markups and
cancellations, markdowns and cancellations, and net sales. Using these components,
a cost to retail ratio is formed. Once this is formed, the sales are subtracted. This
ends with the result of the inventory. This system tends to be more popular than the
gross profit method because it is based on cost to retail percentage rather than
historical gross profit ratio ( Appendix D, Retail Inventory Method , n.d.). The

Gay Dance Clubs Essay example
The dance club is no longer an exclusive venue drawing together people with similar
musical interests. Instead, it has become the commercialized superclub, where profit
rather than music is the bottom line. As a space traditionally influenced by
homosexuals becomes a major business opportunity, this commercialization has led to
the inclusion of gay subcultures within mainstream American society. However, this
process has served to reinforce social stigmaand stereotypes. The advertising and club
environment designed to sell the experience to the gay customer is founded on the
overtly sexual club cultureof the 1970s and early 80s. On the dance floor the
constructed image of the club combines with the inherent sexual and mind altering...

In many clubs, the underground days of clubbing past have been replaced with the
homogenized superclubs of the present: gigantic, multi floored venues attracting
thousands to listen to the music makers spin. Gone too are the days of exclusivity. As
club culture has been mainstreamed, entrepreneurs have found the new sound not
only revolutionary, but also profitable. Promoters and planners such as gay circuit
guru John Blair offer free membership cards and litter the streets with flyers offering
discounts when shown at the door. In the world of the superclub, capitalism and
profits shape dance culture.
With the popularizing of club culture has come an equal mainstreaming of its
components. As Fiona Buckland discusses in her book Impossible Dance: Club
Culture and Queer World Making, the music of today s clubs such as garage, hard
house and Hi NRG imply a historical continuity with gay parties of the 1970s with
deep roots in disco (2002, p. 67). Gay and black influences were a basic part of
disco music, explored in Bernard Weinraub s article Here s to Disco, It Never
Could Say Goodbye. The heritage that once put the music at odds with the more
straight white male sensibility of the contemporary rock music of the era (Weinraub,
2002) is today a basic piece of the dance scene for straight and gay audiences alike.
Now that club culture has become a commodity in the superclub, bought and sold by
promoters and club owners,

Pleistocene Rewilding Report
One of the biggest ideas that Emma Marris discusses in her book is Pleistocene
rewilding,. This concept aims to return an area to a state completely untouched by
human, between 10,000 and 13,000 years ago. However, I tend to have a lot of
problems with this concept.
To start with there has been quite bit of global climate change in the last 13,000;
regardless of the fact that the most notable changes have been caused by
anthropogenic factors, natural climate change would still have played a role in
altering and shaping these environments, making them different than the ones
conservationists are trying to recreate.
Another weakness of this concept is that it seems as if current global climate change
is not taken into account. The degrading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suckling argues mostly in support of the idea of a Pleistocene wilderness, yet
indirectly, that nature is and was threatened by people, and had we not damaged the
planet as we did, the environment would likely be in better shape. However, he looks
at from a surveying perspective in that he recognizes that our actions lead to real
consequences for nature, and these consequences cannot be taken for granted, taking
account of the current state of the planet. Because of his very realistic ideas, I think
Suckling would be in support of creating areas of Pleistocene wilderness. On the other
side of the argument Karieva promotes the idea that traditional conservation is
outdated and no longer the way to go with the current state of the environment. When
it comes down to it, Peter Karieva argues for sustainable development to combat the
issues of global environmental degradation, we must meet the development needs of
the present without surpassing the needs of the future. Lastly, the authors of New
conservation or surrender to development?, make an argument that lines up directly
with the idea of Pleistocene wilderness. Their argument is saturated with the idea of
biodiversity and it s importance to our environment and wilderness, a key point in the
creation of places like Oostvaardersplassen. Ultimately, I think these authors are the

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Barack Obama s Speech

Barack Obama delivered his Presidential speech on November 4, 2008, in Great

election. The speech was well put together and successful. This essay will explicate
the tone as well as examples of his use of pathos and ethos which made his speech so
successful.
One successful strategy was his use of tone throughout the speech that grabbed the
attention of the audience. Obama starts off with an unassertive tone, making sure the
audience knew he would never focus on himself but rather his supporters. By stating

Obama focuses a lot on emotional appeal, or pathos, affirming We are, and always
will be, The United States of America! (Obama, 2008) This phrase shows feelings
of national pride, strength, and accomplishment as well as uniting people of the
country together as one. In fact, he uses a very powerful ethos when he talks about
a 106 year old woman, Ann Nixon Copper along with the challenges we have made
it through by stating When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the

anything. Though this strategy of pathos and ethos Obama was able to change the

Sisterhood In Goblin Market By Christina Rossetti And...
Sisterhood happens to be a powerful and moving concept. Several people do not
believe that it is an actual notion due to it rarely being mentioned unlike
brotherhood. Men standing as one remains a more believable idea than women
standing as one. The blame for that would be attributable to society and its sexist
views. Males have taken over as the main root for society which has led to women
being degraded more often than not. Society enjoys putting women down for
incidents that they praise men for. In fact, society has taught women to verbally
attack other women in matters that others consider potentially wrong. However, that
is not the basis of sisterhood. Sisterhood exists based on women lifting other women
up and essentially being there for one another instead of oppressing them. Women
should not feel beaten down by other women considering they are all one in the same.
The poem GoblinMarket by Christina Rossettiand the film Steel Magnolias directed
by Herbert Ross shows true sisterhood in which women come together and perform
everything they can to assist other struggling women even when the people of
society, including other females, are trying to sever their bonds. In the poem Goblin
Market by Christina Rossetti, there is a definite prominence of women striving to
overcome society s norms. Laura and Lizzie, the two main characters, get ambushed
by a group of goblins. These goblins represent society and how it will try to bring a
womandown for any cause. The

Mill On Liberty Analysis
In On Liberty, J.S. Mill surveys the discord amid the tyranny of the majority and the
rights of the minority. In a democracy, these are both esteemed core values. As an
example, the issue of race relations in the United States of America has long been a
battle between legally sanctioned discrimination by the majority and the will of those
in the minority to fight for their liberty. In the 21st century, we are now witnessing
constant controversies between these age old problems of democratic society. From
gay marriage, and the associated rights of the LGBTQ community, to voter s rights
and a renewed need for equality of liberty among people of different creeds, sexes,
and races, the foundation of the issues never really changes, it is still... Show more

Nevertheless, Mill also added some ideas in the text that are not only inappropriate
but, in retrospect, seem harmful. For example, the belief that it was acceptable to
rule over a people because they were thought savages is just antithetical to his mostly
liberal thinking. Secondly, there is an air of elitism present throughout the work that
is not required. Of course, there will always be those who are less gifted than others
in certain cognitive respects. This does not mean that they should have less of a say
in how their society and individual lives are arranged. There is a delicate line to walk
on this issue (e.g. questions such as: what constitutes a rational human being? And:
who makes that decision?). These are subtle questions of distinction, and for the most
part, Mill appears to suggest that this is common knowledge or, that perhaps some
lower level of human beings exist that must be controlled by those more intellectually
gifted. Although it is not explicitly written in this context, the idea is still present

The Internet And Its Effect On Society
The Internet was introduced to human society in 1950s. With the changes internet
brought, it has become a controversial source over the past few years. The internet is
a mechanical machine used for information spreading, a tool between people for
interaction, and collaboration regardless of one s geography. Like everything, the
internetcomes with bad and good; however, the benefits should be seen in light of the
detrimental.
Internet has become an indispensable part of everyday entertainment. According to
AppleВ®, on February 6, 2013 music fans have purchased and downloaded more
than 25 billion songs from iTunes, the world s most popular online music store.
Facebook has roughly about 1.3 billion users, and 829 million people log in each ...

In terms of popular social networks, Twitter is the second most popular name after
Facebook. Every day 500 million tweets are sent across the web. Thus, with the
expansion of online media, the Internet has become an indispensable tool in everyday
life.
Education and the Internet have become inseparable. The Internet allows students to
connect with the faculty members. Student can use various online applications to
organize events and set reminders. Some schools may contemplate the integration of
social network as a distraction but in fact social networking can act as a tool for
social learning and student engagement among teachers and other students. The
Internet inspires students to learn in innovative but safe ways. In the realms of
questions about science, English, math and history the Internet can provide free
access to educational content with more than 450,000 school related videos on
Youtube EDU. According to Dr. Kashif Ur Rehman, who did a group research study
on students attitudes toward the use of the Internet, Internet use will encourage
young generations to make use of technologies to accomplish their goal. Realizing
the importance of the Internet, more than 5,000 K 12 school provide Chromebooks
so their students can easily access their learning material. Studies reveal that
computers and Internet are playing a pivotal role in educational projects and
especially in researching. According to Netcraft there are 644 million active websites,

Morris Disappearing Bag A Christmas Story
Wells, R. (1980). Morris s disappearing bag: A Christmas story (3rd ed.).
Harmondsworth, Middlesex, England: Picture Puffins, Penguin Books.
Genre: Children
It s Christmas Day and Morris is missing. A simple story about the youngest who
initially is happy with his bear until he realising that he is missing out on sharing the
other presents his siblings have received because he has nothing they want to share.
Not happy, Morris is unable to be consoled, even though he has various ideas from
his older family members, until he finds a disappearing bag and then everyone wants
what he has. Simple text, that is funny and engaging with simple drawings to support
a charming story. With beautiful imagery the story shows how Morris copes with his
siblings and them not sharing with him.
Reading this to children, they enjoy the rhythmical sentence structure, sharing ideas
on how Morris could be comforted, discussing options on why Morris cannot be
found; the gas

Noise Of Frustration As Fine
groan of frustration as he stood to check more things, they were all stable. Their
engines seemed to be working, and since they weren t dead that at least meant for the
moment oxygen was breathable.
The sliding doors to the flight deck shot open and there stood a suited Liam Payne
and dishevelled Niall Horan. The beeping sound grew louder. It reminded Louis of
the sounding of an alarm clock and being in the middle state between waking and
sleeping. He could hear the alarm sounding, louder and louder but he could do
nothing to stop it.
What the bloody hell is going on? Niall yelled above the noise.

Louis for a moment thought about dying in space, contrary to popular believe you
didn t die instantly if someone you removed your helmet or got a leak in your suit,
no. You didn t spontaneously combust like a car in an action film, instead you
swelled like a balloon, blood slowly bubbling. You still wouldn t die straight away.
It was like drowning, it would take a minute or two. Maybe that was the kind of
flower wilting death Zayn had been talking about.
In space the two boys drifted weightless. The only think keeping them to their ship
was a tether and a damn lot of shear faith in it. Louis and Liam both flanked the ship,
taking different areas and moving to inspect the outside of the ship. Louis and Liam
both turned on the communication radio within their suits.
Anything out there? Louis heard Zayn s voice beside his ear. Even out here he couldn
t get away from the sodding guy.
I see a shit tone of space and a whole lot of nothing wrong with the ship, Louis
quipped as he clung to the guide rails on the outside of the ship, trying to get closer
to the engine. If anything was wrong he should be able to see, and then all hell broke
loose.
It started with Niall s voice, speaking in his ear though not really addressing anyone.
What the bloody hell is that?
That? What was that?
Supernatural Character Analysis
Characters you should know from Supernatural and things about them (MAY
CONTAIN SPOILERS)
Supernatural is a show about two brothers named Sam and Dean Winchester, or as
Crowley says, Moose and Squirrel. The two brothers crisscross the country fighting
demons, witches and all kinds of different monsters and ghosts making friends and
enemies along the way.
Dean and Sam
Sam and Dean are brothers which means they don t always get along but when
they do fight it doesn t last long because they eventually figure out they need each
other and that they are each other s weaknesses. They are what s called hunters
and not just normal hunters they hunt monsters and take care of them. Sam is 4
years younger than his brother but he is taller and has longer hair. Sam seems like
a teddy bear on the outside but could actually kill you. Dean is the older brother
and has short hair and is only a little shorter. He looks like he could kill you but is
actually a real teddy bear. Dean has been through so much and so has Sam but Sam
isn t affected as much. Dean loves pie and Sam hates clowns, both of these facts are
very important. There parents are John and Mary Winchester. Mary was killed by
(SPOILER ALERT) a yellow eyed demon named Azazel (END OF SPOILER) when
Sam was exactly 6 months old which drove John into hunting bringing the boys with
him raising them like soldiers. Dean always followed his father s orders but Sam ran
away and went to stanford for a little while, until Dean brought him
Comparing A Cyborg Manifesto And Letter In Birmingham
Jail
In A Cyborg Manifesto , Donna Haraway, the author relates feminism to cyborgs in
that male/female and biology/technology are dualities. However, is the Civil Rights
Movement not an undertaking between dualities as well (African Americans
/Caucasian)? By applying Haraway s idea that male/female can be united just like bio
/tech are in cyborgs to MLK s Letter in Birmingham Jail that states that the Civil
Rights Movement is an undertaking by the African Americans to gain rights equal to
those of Caucasians, we can see that perhaps African Americans can be united with
Caucasians just like male/female and bio/tech. Martin Luther King Jr s Letter in
Birmingham Jail rebuts some of the arguments that white clergymen make about his
recent actions
Bad Body Image Days Or Bad Self Image
Bad body image days or bad self image days, in general, are something that every
person at some point in time endures. Everyone has their insecurities and some
days these insecurities strike out to us more so than other days. Being our own
worst critic, the days you wake up swearing you gained 10 pounds over night or the
days you wake up shocked to see your face as one inflamed pimple can be extremely
hindering. We all love morning stomachbut some days you wake up bloated and

Eating too late....Eating late is not bad, you will not gain weight in the long run if
you eat something at night. That s just another diet fad and there s no hard
evidence to back it up. It s meant for people trying to lose weight to retain from
snacking on unhealthy foods at night. However, your body does not just stop
working when you go to bed, your heart is still pumping blood and your organs are
still doing their thing. However, if you eat a heavy meal, usually heavy in carbs or
salt, and then go to bed, you may notice waking up a little more bloated because you
re not moving around as much as you normally do throughout the day helping
digestion along.
Salt carbs and water...If you re eating too much salt you may bloat due to salt s
ability to hold onto water. SOME PEOPLE, not all, notice bloating after eating too
many carbs, this is because carbs are usually the most voluminous of the foods
taking up more room in your stomach and also retain water. However, this is not to
say carbs are bad, neither is salt. Eat the piece of bread Darla. You also may not be
drinking enough water. Your cells need water to function and if you re not drinking
enough water, your body will enter stress mode causing your cortisol levels (or stress
hormones) to rise causing it to retain water in order to make sure your cells are
getting their fair amount.
Constipation.. you may just have to go (: Drink
The Immigration Act Of 1924
America is no foreigner to immigrants. From the pilgrims who came searching for
religious liberation to African slaves that had lost their liberty, America s history has
been shaped by the influx of immigrants from different parts of the world. As America
grew, it became, and still is, a promised land for many. As a result, immigration has
become a pivotal topic in the American culture and with time, the dynamics of
immigration has changed due to a shifting of focus between different immigrant
groups. From the Chinese exclusion act in 1882 to the Immigration Act of 1924,
which restricted Eastern European immigrants access to the USA, different groups of
people have been the principal focus of immigration reform (HISTORY Corporation,
2009). Since the early 20th century to present, the main group of focus with
immigration reform has been Hispanics, mainly Mexicans. From deportation to
discrimination, many Mexicans have struggled in the hands of immigration laws.
This pain is evident in the cultural marks Mexicans have left in American Culture. A
prime example of such mark is within the Chicano movement. Beginning in the
1960s, the Chicano movement aimed to address the social injustices that the Mexican
population faced in America. (Mendoza, 2001). From reinstatement of land rights to
voter and political rights, these social injustices propelled the Chicano movement to
fight for civil rights. This passion fueled multiple artistic expressions and many
Chicano artists mirrored
French Revolution Dbq Essay
During the Great Terror of the French Revolution, chaos erupted everywhere. King
Louis XVI had been overthrown and was replaced with the National Convention,
causing a large wave of mass paranoia between the people. Such paranoia included
being against the National Convention and the Revolution as a whole and the
consequence was getting guillotined. Many leaders that tried to step up and take
charge were ultimately forced off of power and an example of this was Robespierre,
where he was guillotined for being suspected as a rebel even though he was the one
the executions. This mass paranoia eventually led to the Dechristianization of France,
where Deism was picked up as Frances unofficial religion. In an attempt to completely

The biggest reason that many were against it was because of communication. In
Abbe Sieyes response to the Committee of Public Instruction s proposal for a new
calendar, he talked about how France s practices with neighboring countries, such
as trade or politics, would be extremely difficult to plan (Doc 2). It even made
confusion within France itself because of the way the four months were named.
Some of the month names made sense, such as the northern part of France having
snow during the snow months but the confusing part was that the southern parts of
France having none because of its slightly warmer climate. Because of this
inaccurate naming scheme, it caused mass confusion both within France and its
neighboring countries (Doc 3) Another example of why some were against the new
calendar was because it seen as an act of tyranny from the National Convention.
According to Pierre Joseph Denis, a former Girondin that was imprisoned during the
Great Terror and recalled to the National Convention, he stated that this new
calendar was an act of despotism and unfair since it was being forced upon the
people and that some of the festivals were detestable and silly. Pierre Joseph
criticizes the National Convention for discarding the religion of their fathers and
previous generations and putting Robespierre at the top of authority in Deism (Doc
5). Additionally, the new calendar forced the
Greek Government Essay
Forms of Government in the Greek City States
The Greek city states had different forms of government systems as we have seen in
Sparta and Athens where one had an oligarchy government and the other a democratic
one respectively. Monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy and democracy are the
forms of government which were found in the city states of Greece.
Democracy is defined as the rule of the people, as stated by Brand (n.d). It was first
developed in Athens by Cleisthenes and it was based on the principle that all
citizens( native born Athenian men) of the city state of Athens had a right to attend
and speak at the assembly excluding women , slaves and metics. The only real
difference between a Greek oligarchy government and a Greek democracy ... Show

Cartwright (2013) states that in the Greek world monarchies were rare and were
often only distinguishable from a tyranny when the hereditary ruler was more
benevolent and ruled in the genuine interest of his people. The common examples of
monarchies were the ones in Macedonia and Epeiros where the ruler shared power
with an assembly. Sparta also was ruled by two kings although it had a citizen
assembly.
Another form of government is tyranny. Tyranny is a rule by one powerful dictator
who has seized power without legal right. However , Greek tyrants were not
necessarily evil rulers but they simply looked after their own interests. This type of
government existed in many states, particularly in the 6th century BC. Syracuse in
Sicily had a run of famous tyrants such as Dionysios from 405 BCE and his son
Dionysios II, who took over in 367 BCE ( Cartwright, 2013).
During 700 BC, aristocracies ruled the earliest poleis which were later replaced by
oligarchies. An aristocratic government places power in the hands of a small,
privileged ruling class. This is contrasted to a monarchy as it is a rule by an
individual while in an aristocratic government a group of noble people rule the
people. In this government the common citizens had no say in political issues of the
Reasons Why Juveniles Should Be Tried As An Adult
Juvenile Offender In Today s society, there are many crimes going on, not just
adults committing crimes even juvenile committing crimes.Today s question is
whether juveniles should be tried as an adult before the age of 18 ? NO juvenile
should be tried as an adult before the age of eighteens. Their still a child before the
age of eighteen any they still need a chance to learn from their mistakes, their not
considered as an adult when it comes to voting and drinking most important of all
an adult prison is a cruel unusual punishment for juvenile. A juvenile is, anybody
under the age of 18 years old, who is not old enough to be consider as an adult,
someone that s still in school, still staying with their parents and living under their
parents rules. Most states consider a juvenile a person between the ages of ten and
eighteen, however, some states set the maximum juvenile age as sixteen (How do
Juvenile Proceeding). There are different ages for juveniles in different states. But
how can we set age for a juvenile? It is hard to tell when somebody is truly an adult.
In the United States, if your the age of eighteen you are an adult and if younger than
eighteen you are label as an juvenile. So,therefore the age that needs to be set as an
adult is eighteen and anyone younger than eighteen is a juvenile, this is most
important when it comes to the legally system. Anyone over a state s given age limit
is tried as an adult. Furthermore, sometimes older juveniles who commit
Sleep Deprivation Research
In my article about Sleep Deprivation Boosts Anticipatory Anxiety a correlation
exists between sleep deprivation and increased levels of anxiety. The research team
at UC Berkeley suggests when someone is sleep deprived and anticipating either a
neutral or disturbing image to appear, activity in the emotional brain centers
increases, thus indicating an elevated level of anxiety. This correlation, however, does
not indicate causation. Causation would imply that sleep deprivationalone is what
causes elevated levels of anxiety. This could be false because increased activity in
the emotional brain centers could be caused by other factors instead sleep
deprivation. For example, external stresses such as a big test coming up could be
elevating activity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would require the amount of sleep to be the independent variable and levels
of anxiety to be the dependent variable. To operationalize the independent variable
I would do a between subjects study, where participants are randomly assigned to a
group that either gets a full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep or a group that is forced
to wake up every 2 hours in an 8 hour sleep period. Dopamine, a chemical
neurotransmitter, is released in our brains when we expect a positive event to
occur.1 Thus when the nature of the image is not known to the participant, I would
measure dopamine levels in the brain throughout the time of anticipation to
operationalize the dependent variable. If results conclude that those who were
deprived of sleep had lower dopamine levels then this will prove the hypothesis that
sleep deprivation causes a greater sense of anxiety. These results could also help us
reject the null hypothesis that sleep deprivation has no effect on anxiety levels. Since
this would be a between subjects study, it would show that manipulating the amount
of sleep given to a participant would cause a variation in their sense of anxiety. To
eliminate specific bias in this experiment, participants would be told that this study
looks to test their ability to quickly identify objects in a picture after sleeping for 8
hours to avoid demand characteristics that might influence the

  • 2. Informative Essay On Soul Surfer I dug my toes into the white sand of Tunnels Beach, Kauai, Hawaii. I stared off into the waves and the horizon as I waited impatiently for pro surfer and author of Soul Surfer, Bethany Hamilton. I was still in shock that I would be interviewing her. I am hoping to discuss Bethany s life, including her attack and her book. Bethany s attack took place at this very beach on an early morning in 2003. I hear a friendly Hello in the distance and turn around to see a blonde haired girl with sun kissed skin and a Rip Curl rash guard walking towards me. I gestured her to sit down beside me, Hello Bethany, I m so thrilled to finally meet you! Thank you for joining me. Bethany greeted me with a friendly Aloha, I am so excited for our interview! ... It s astonishing that after such a traumatic experience, Bethany was able to overcome all the obstacles and continue to surf and live her dream. Even with one arm, she was able to accomplish unbelievable things. It s hard to feel empathetic for Bethany, most of us haven t lost a limb due to a shark attack , or could even imagine it. However, we can all relate to experiencing setbacks in life. Bethany was not discouraged by the attack, she was able to overcome it and became even better at surfing than she originally was. Her grace is something we can all admire and look up

This abuse of the internet can be defined as any use of the internet for personal purposes during work hours. Milkman Dead lives in an oppressive society where there is no change. And like those around him, Milkman shows no signs of change in the first two thirds of part one. • 9. Unusual Languages of the World Jenn Beckmann Part 1 2. Define pidgin and creole and explain the difference between them. Pidgins and creoles are both languages that occur when two people of different languages are communicating (p.232). In order to define a pidgin, it is important to look at the process in which a pidgin develops. When contact between speakers of two different languages occurs and they begin to create ways of communication through words and phrases, pre pidgin is developing. A pidgin develops as a new language when the original group or several groups of people begin using the pre pidgin to communicate as the common language. The pidgin is then being used as the lingua franca (p. 233). Depending on the use of the language, there is also a restricted pidgin and expanded pidgin. Restricted pidgin is only used when necessary for communication and typically has small vocabulary and little grammar. Expanded pidgin is a pidgin that is used everyday and in different entities such as religion or the government. This type of pidgin has an expanded vocabulary and grammar. On the other hand, a creole is a pidgin that children learn and use as their first language. With children learn the language as their first, it will expand to community usage. Gramatics are much more complex in a creole as is the vocabulary of the language (p.234). There are differences between a pidgin and creole that can be defined. • 10. My initial inspiration for this piece was Trifles, which... My initial inspiration for this piece was Trifles, which funnily enough only shares the characteristic of detectives being involved within the plot. As per suggestion on my proposal, I developed my idea of detectives solving a case further by including dialogue and inter personnel relationships similar to those found in Glengarry Glen Ross. Taking the idea of different members of the real estate office discussing work and plotting in Glengarry Glen Ross, and applying them to a trio of detectives on a case was interesting to say the least. Upon first thinking of what I wanted to get across, I knew that some form of conspiracy was going to be present. This was done in the revelation at the end that Chris actually was working with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is why towards the end of the play he walks off stage never to return. Chris, I wrote with the intention of making him an arrogant jerk, or someone that you would hate to work with. James countered his personality to some extent, or would have if the victim had not been his friend. I made this a point so that James would be off his game, so to speak. This would justify in Chris s mind why he would need to act on the chief s wishes and kill James. In regards to the ending, I chose to end the play on an ill fitting monologue of sorts. It was jarring enough to not fit the way the rest of the dialogue was given during the bulk of the play, for I wanted to get across that Chris was far worse of a person than just being arrogant. James in the end lets his anger with Chris subside to the point that he may think that Chris is trying to apologize by offering to get him a drink. This thought will inevitably prove to be another lack of judgment by James. Overall, the process of writing a play was a fun experience that I would like to come back to at some point in time, possibly to expand this story in which I have now crafted. Creating three distinct characters was quite a challenge, and writing a story with nothing but dialogue for the most part was also difficult; for the most part it is miles apart from writing fiction. Drawing inspiration from Glengarry Glen Ross helped set

One other problem that has been posed is the breaking of the OCP height restrictions. The proposed height for The George is 25 metres which is approximately 8 stories, double the current OCP restrictions. People worry that if we were to change the rules for one building would other developers run in and try slip under the rules too. For this town to further flourish we need to think about changing some of the rules of the OCP to allow projects that will help further our community culturally, and economically. Economically speaking The George will provide many full and part time jobs for residents of the Sunshine Coast. A proposed 130 full time and part time in hotel administration, accounting,

Once he founded Buddhism, he travelled the world trying to spread his philosophy. Buddha preached that the biggest hallucination in life is the tangible world. While spreading Buddhism, he converted a small portion of South Asia. Buddhismwas developed throughout South Asia by the main political powers of AЕ›oka and the Tang Dynasty. AЕ›oka, the Mauryan Dynasty s third king ruled the empire at its peak. The Mauryan Dynasty Empire swept the majority of South Asia. Accepting of other religions, AЕ›oka had access to a variety of people and religions residing in his reign. However, the king remained in his traditional Buddhist ways and it showed throughout his rule. These pieces of stone have Asoka s ideas on animal justice, his religious and moral standings, and social welfare . Having these palpable pieces of Buddhism diffused throughout his empire for public viewing was one of the major ways he helped spread Buddhism. The Pillar Edicts, the stone pieces AЕ›oka had carved, shows how AЕ›oka changed his empire and changed Buddhism. By applying Buddhism to ruling an empire, he developed Buddhism to become more adaptable, but did not allow it lose its purity. The Fourth Pillar Edict, The Seventh Pillar Edict, and the Kalinga

Themes In The Golden Girls The Golden Girls is an iconic television show set in 1980 s Miami that not only provides insight to aging in America through humor, but sometimes lectures the viewer on social topics with an obvious liberal agenda. Even though I have probably viewed every episode hundreds of times over the past thirty years, I still find myself eager to watch it every night at bedtime to end the stresses of the day on a happy note. I do not always agree with the opinions expressed by the characters or the outcome of a particular episode. However, I still come back for more each night because most episodes end on a happy note, and that allows me to drift into sleep with a little less stress on my mind. For seven seasons, . . . the series won several awards during its run, including 11 Emmys and four Golden Globes (MTSU). The creator of the show, Susan Harris, also created the 1970 s show called Soap. Both shows were produced by Paul Junger Witt and Tony Thomas (Golden Girls: Miami Spice). While I was very young during Soap s run on television, I have seen reruns of it a few times. It most definitely has liberal agenda themes that are presented with humor like The Golden Girls. However, it was presented in poor taste in its acting and storylines to present a message that could have been construed as offensive to much of the audience back in the 1970 s. It is very rare to talk to someone today that has even heard of Soap and it certainly has not reached cult like status
  • 16. “A Raisin in the Sun” Lorraine Hansberry used symbolism in her successful drama, A Raisin in the Sun to portray emotions felt in the lives of her characters and possible her own. Hansberry set her piece in Chicago s South Side, probably the early 1950 s. During this period in history, many African Americans, like the Youngers, struggled to overcome the well known prejudices that were far too familiar. The main scene, in this touching realist drama, is the home of the Youngers, an overcrowded run down apartment. Hansberry, not only, played on the condition of the apartment; she used the size as well. The condition alone portrayed the despair and oppression the Youngers felt, but Hansberry wanted to make their struggle to suppress depression undeniable. She did this by placing the family of five, soon to be six, in a two bedroom apartment with no bathroom. This small, cramped apartment also symbolized the pressures from society to divvy up the limited resources partitioned for African Americans. By setting the scene this way, Hansberry also was able to set the mood. The feelingof tension and need for the characters to fight for their fair share is apparent in the opening act, as Ruth rushes Travis into the bathroom before the neighbors. These feelings serve as a foundation for the problems in act three between brother and sister, Ruth s motive to have an abortion, and represent an explanation to the need so many African Americans felt to compete against each other. Hansberry characterized the lack of resources, a common theme here, not only in the lack of space, but also in the lack of food, money, and sunlight. As conflict intensified in the small space, Mama realized that her be loved family was falling apart and only the reality of owning a home could bring unity. To overcome the mountains of negative emotions the Youngers turn to their beckons of hope. The three main symbolic items Hansberry used were Mama s
  • 17. DNS Essay The Domain Name System or DNS is an international address system developed to ensure that every computer connected to the Internet has its own address. DNS assigns addresses to Internet web servers [10]. However, in the DNS system, that address is actually a set of numbers like 173.194.39.78. This set of numbers is called the computer s Internet Protocol (IP) address. The Domain Name System is most often described as the Internet s phone book or address book. All of us Internet users use it on daily basis without even realizing it. Its basic task is to convert human readable website name like coursera.org into its computer readable numerical IP address like 107.21.240.231.Since such strings of numbers are difficult for humans to memorize, DNS allows you to assign a domain name, such as facebook.com to you IP address. So, the domain name is simply an address on the Internet. It has to be unique just like physical address or phone number. Computers (and other network devices like smartphones or tablets) use IP addresses to identify each other on the network and route your request to the site you are trying to access. It is just like dialing a phone number to reach the person you want to talk to, but thanks to DNS, you don t need to maintain your own address book of IP addresses. You will simply connect via DNS server (also called domain name server or just name server ). Domain name system servers match domain names like coursera.org to their associated IP addresses.

Woolf reads the lives of women and concludes that if a woman were to have written she would have had to overcome enormous circumstances (Woolf xi). Woolf s initial thesis is that a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction (Woolf 4). Woolf mentions many nineteenth century female writers in order to explain these conditions, but she does not mention Mary Shelley. Rejection and discouragement from family, friends, and society fills her life. Because the world will not permit the expression of her genius, she eventually commits suicide. Woolf argues that like ?Shakespeare?s sister,? any woman ?born with a gift for poetry in the sixteenth century was an unhappy woman, a woman at strife against herself? (Woolf 50). Although the circumstances of female writers greatly improve over the next 300 years, Woolf finds that ?even in the nineteenth century a woman was not encouraged to be an artist. On the contrary, she was snubbed, slapped, lectured and exhorted? (Woolf 55). Despite the great odds against her, a few women managed to disregard their discouraging environments and write successfully. The conditions that they overcame amaze Woolf: ?What genius, what integrity it must have required in face of all that criticism, in the midst of that purely patriarchal society to hold fast to the thing as they saw it without shrinking? (Woolf 74). Unlike most nineteenth century female writers, Mary Shelley is supported in her intellectual pursuits throughout her life. Although society discourages female writers, her family surrounds her with constant encouragement. Shelley comes from a background of famous radical writers. The political and moral writings of her father, William Godwin, are extremely influential during the time. Her feminist mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, writes the controversial book, A

What I do recall is my utter disbelief the day my mother suddenly altered our usual homework chatter. Target uses a program where venders do not charge the company for the products they stock until they are sold. Using the RIM method of inventorying, there are multiple components needed to satisfy the equation. The heritage that once put the music at odds with the more straight white male sensibility of the contemporary rock music of the era (Weinraub, 2002) is today a basic piece of the dance scene for straight and gay audiences alike. Now that club culture has become a commodity in the superclub, bought and sold by promoters and club owners,

I answered anxiously. Do you wanna take a guess? he questioned. Uh, I replied, Arizona? Nope. Then where? Myrtle Beach! Months later, we arrived at the airport at around 11:30am on Sunday, and our flight was supposed to take off at 2pm. But we were told that there was a fifteen minute delay and we weren t too bothered. Fifteen minutes later, they pushed the flight back an hour because there was a malfunction with the engine. It sometimes worried me when something hit my leg or foot and I didn t know what it was, and all it was, was seaweed. We stayed out there for a good two to four hours, right away I knew that s what I wanted to do the most. We came back inside and dried off and dressed up. We didn t really do much for the rest of the day. On Tuesday, we we drove out to a couple different gift shops to see if we really needed anything, but because it was only the second day, we didn t end up buying anything. After that, me and my dad went out to the ocean, again. We had no idea what time it was or when we would have to go inside to get ready for a pirate dinner and show at 5pm. So after a while, we were walking back and my dad mumbled, Let s wait for one more good wave and I agreed. We went back into the ocean and then we had one great wave, then they just kept coming for a couple of minutes. We laughed for that whole couple minutes. Then when it died down, we started walking back again and my dad looked behind his shoulder and pointed out another good wave. So, obviously, we went back out, again! But then we finally actually came back to the hotel. So we went to the dinner show and we got there very early, we got to our seats, we didn t know exactly where they were but, they were in the front row. I was surprised but at the same time, I was
  • 36. Pleistocene Rewilding Report One of the biggest ideas that Emma Marris discusses in her book is Pleistocene rewilding,. This concept aims to return an area to a state completely untouched by human, between 10,000 and 13,000 years ago. However, I tend to have a lot of problems with this concept. To start with there has been quite bit of global climate change in the last 13,000; regardless of the fact that the most notable changes have been caused by anthropogenic factors, natural climate change would still have played a role in altering and shaping these environments, making them different than the ones conservationists are trying to recreate. Another weakness of this concept is that it seems as if current global climate change is not taken into account. The degrading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suckling argues mostly in support of the idea of a Pleistocene wilderness, yet indirectly, that nature is and was threatened by people, and had we not damaged the planet as we did, the environment would likely be in better shape. However, he looks at from a surveying perspective in that he recognizes that our actions lead to real consequences for nature, and these consequences cannot be taken for granted, taking account of the current state of the planet. Because of his very realistic ideas, I think Suckling would be in support of creating areas of Pleistocene wilderness. On the other side of the argument Karieva promotes the idea that traditional conservation is outdated and no longer the way to go with the current state of the environment. When it comes down to it, Peter Karieva argues for sustainable development to combat the issues of global environmental degradation, we must meet the development needs of the present without surpassing the needs of the future. Lastly, the authors of New conservation or surrender to development?, make an argument that lines up directly with the idea of Pleistocene wilderness. Their argument is saturated with the idea of biodiversity and it s importance to our environment and wilderness, a key point in the creation of places like Oostvaardersplassen. Ultimately, I think these authors are the most supportive of the

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Barack Obama s Speech Speech Analysis essay on Barak Obamas 2008 victory speech Barack Obama delivered his Presidential speech on November 4, 2008, in Great Park, Chicago. This selected speech is about his victory in the 2008 Presidential election. The speech was well put together and successful. This essay will explicate the tone as well as examples of his use of pathos and ethos which made his speech so successful. One successful strategy was his use of tone throughout the speech that grabbed the attention of the audience. • 38. Sisterhood In Goblin Market By Christina Rossetti And... Sisterhood happens to be a powerful and moving concept. Several people do not believe that it is an actual notion due to it rarely being mentioned unlike brotherhood. Men standing as one remains a more believable idea than women standing as one. The blame for that would be attributable to society and its sexist views. Males have taken over as the main root for society which has led to women being degraded more often than not. Society enjoys putting women down for incidents that they praise men for. In fact, society has taught women to verbally attack other women in matters that others consider potentially wrong. However, that is not the basis of sisterhood. Sisterhood exists based on women lifting other women up and essentially being there for one another instead of oppressing them. Women should not feel beaten down by other women considering they are all one in the same. The poem GoblinMarket by Christina Rossettiand the film Steel Magnolias directed by Herbert Ross shows true sisterhood in which women come together and perform everything they can to assist other struggling women even when the people of society, including other females, are trying to sever their bonds. In the poem Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti, there is a definite prominence of women striving to overcome society s norms. Laura and Lizzie, the two main characters, get ambushed by a group of goblins. These goblins represent society and how it will try to bring a womandown for any cause. The

  • 40. Mill On Liberty Analysis In On Liberty, J.S. Mill surveys the discord amid the tyranny of the majority and the rights of the minority. In a democracy, these are both esteemed core values. As an example, the issue of race relations in the United States of America has long been a battle between legally sanctioned discrimination by the majority and the will of those in the minority to fight for their liberty. In the 21st century, we are now witnessing constant controversies between these age old problems of democratic society. From gay marriage, and the associated rights of the LGBTQ community, to voter s rights and a renewed need for equality of liberty among people of different creeds, sexes, and races, the foundation of the issues never really changes, it is still... Secondly, there is an air of elitism present throughout the work that is not required. Of course, there will always be those who are less gifted than others in certain cognitive respects. This does not mean that they should have less of a say in how their society and individual lives are arranged. There is a delicate line to walk on this issue (e.g. questions such as: what constitutes a rational human being? And: who makes that decision?). These are subtle questions of distinction, and for the most part, Mill appears to suggest that this is common knowledge or, that perhaps some lower level of human beings exist that must be controlled by those more intellectually gifted. Although it is not explicitly written in this context, the idea is still present throughout the

From the pilgrims who came searching for religious liberation to African slaves that had lost their liberty, America s history has been shaped by the influx of immigrants from different parts of the world. As America grew, it became, and still is, a promised land for many. As a result, immigration has become a pivotal topic in the American culture and with time, the dynamics of immigration has changed due to a shifting of focus between different immigrant groups. From the Chinese exclusion act in 1882 to the Immigration Act of 1924, which restricted Eastern European immigrants access to the USA, different groups of people have been the principal focus of immigration reform (HISTORY Corporation, 2009). Since the early 20th century to present, the main group of focus with immigration reform has been Hispanics, mainly Mexicans. From deportation to discrimination, many Mexicans have struggled in the hands of immigration laws. This pain is evident in the cultural marks Mexicans have left in American Culture. A prime example of such mark is within the Chicano movement. Beginning in the 1960s, the Chicano movement aimed to address the social injustices that the Mexican population faced in America. (Mendoza, 2001). From reinstatement of land rights to voter and political rights, these social injustices propelled the Chicano movement to fight for civil rights. Because of this inaccurate naming scheme, it caused mass confusion both within France and its neighboring countries (Doc 3) Another example of why some were against the new calendar was because it seen as an act of tyranny from the National Convention. According to Pierre Joseph Denis, a former Girondin that was imprisoned during the Great Terror and recalled to the National Convention, he stated that this new calendar was an act of despotism and unfair since it was being forced upon the people and that some of the festivals were detestable and silly. Pierre Joseph criticizes the National Convention for discarding the religion of their fathers and previous generations and putting Robespierre at the top of authority in Deism (Doc 5). Additionally, the new calendar forced the

Greek Government Essay Forms of Government in the Greek City States The Greek city states had different forms of government systems as we have seen in Sparta and Athens where one had an oligarchy government and the other a democratic one respectively. Monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy and democracy are the forms of government which were found in the city states of Greece. Democracy is defined as the rule of the people, as stated by Brand (n.d). It was first developed in Athens by Cleisthenes and it was based on the principle that all citizens( native born Athenian men) of the city state of Athens had a right to attend and speak at the assembly excluding women , slaves and metics. The only real difference between a Greek oligarchy government and a Greek democracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cartwright (2013) states that in the Greek world monarchies were rare and were often only distinguishable from a tyranny when the hereditary ruler was more benevolent and ruled in the genuine interest of his people. The common examples of monarchies were the ones in Macedonia and Epeiros where the ruler shared power with an assembly. Sparta also was ruled by two kings although it had a citizen assembly. Another form of government is tyranny. Tyranny is a rule by one powerful dictator who has seized power without legal right. However , Greek tyrants were not necessarily evil rulers but they simply looked after their own interests. This type of government existed in many states, particularly in the 6th century BC. Syracuse in Sicily had a run of famous tyrants such as Dionysios from 405 BCE and his son Dionysios II, who took over in 367 BCE ( Cartwright, 2013). During 700 BC, aristocracies ruled the earliest poleis which were later replaced by oligarchies. An aristocratic government places power in the hands of a small, privileged ruling class. This is contrasted to a monarchy as it is a rule by an individual while in an aristocratic government a group of noble people rule the people. In this government the common citizens had no say in political issues of the

Reasons Why Juveniles Should Be Tried As An Adult Juvenile Offender In Today s society, there are many crimes going on, not just adults committing crimes even juvenile committing crimes.Today s question is whether juveniles should be tried as an adult before the age of 18 ? NO juvenile should be tried as an adult before the age of eighteens. Their still a child before the age of eighteen any they still need a chance to learn from their mistakes, their not considered as an adult when it comes to voting and drinking most important of all an adult prison is a cruel unusual punishment for juvenile. A juvenile is, anybody under the age of 18 years old, who is not old enough to be consider as an adult, someone that s still in school, still staying with their parents and living under their parents rules. Most states consider a juvenile a person between the ages of ten and eighteen, however, some states set the maximum juvenile age as sixteen (How do Juvenile Proceeding). There are different ages for juveniles in different states. But how can we set age for a juvenile? It is hard to tell when somebody is truly an adult. In the United States, if your the age of eighteen you are an adult and if younger than eighteen you are label as an juvenile. So,therefore the age that needs to be set as an adult is eighteen and anyone younger than eighteen is a juvenile, this is most important when it comes to the legally system. Anyone over a state s given age limit is tried as an adult. Furthermore, sometimes older juveniles who commit
  • 55. Sleep Deprivation Research In my article about Sleep Deprivation Boosts Anticipatory Anxiety a correlation exists between sleep deprivation and increased levels of anxiety. The research team at UC Berkeley suggests when someone is sleep deprived and anticipating either a neutral or disturbing image to appear, activity in the emotional brain centers increases, thus indicating an elevated level of anxiety. This correlation, however, does not indicate causation. Causation would imply that sleep deprivationalone is what causes elevated levels of anxiety. This could be false because increased activity in the emotional brain centers could be caused by other factors instead sleep deprivation. For example, external stresses such as a big test coming up could be elevating activity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would require the amount of sleep to be the independent variable and levels of anxiety to be the dependent variable. To operationalize the independent variable I would do a between subjects study, where participants are randomly assigned to a group that either gets a full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep or a group that is forced to wake up every 2 hours in an 8 hour sleep period. Dopamine, a chemical neurotransmitter, is released in our brains when we expect a positive event to occur.1 Thus when the nature of the image is not known to the participant, I would measure dopamine levels in the brain throughout the time of anticipation to operationalize the dependent variable. If results conclude that those who were deprived of sleep had lower dopamine levels then this will prove the hypothesis that sleep deprivation causes a greater sense of anxiety. These results could also help us reject the null hypothesis that sleep deprivation has no effect on anxiety levels. Since this would be a between subjects study, it would show that manipulating the amount of sleep given to a participant would cause a variation in their sense of anxiety. To eliminate specific bias in this experiment, participants would be told that this study looks to test their ability to quickly identify objects in a picture after sleeping for 8 hours to avoid demand characteristics that might influence the
