Autobiography Essay Samples
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Autobiography Essay Samples" can pose a unique set of
challenges. The complexity lies not only in the task of narrating one's own life story but also in
the delicate balance required to provide insightful reflections and engaging content. The writer
must navigate through the intricacies of self-expression, choosing relevant events, and shaping
them into a coherent narrative.
Delving into personal experiences demands a certain level of introspection and emotional
openness, which can be both rewarding and daunting. The challenge is to present a genuine and
authentic self-portrait while avoiding the pitfalls of self-indulgence or oversharing. Striking this
balance requires a keen understanding of the audience and a thoughtful selection of experiences
that contribute meaningfully to the overarching theme.
Furthermore, the task involves the art of storytelling, as the writer must captivate the reader with
a compelling narrative arc. This requires careful consideration of the chronological order, pacing,
and the incorporation of vivid details to bring the autobiography to life. The challenge extends to
maintaining coherence and relevance, ensuring that each section contributes to the overall
narrative without becoming disjointed or overwhelming.
Another difficulty in writing an autobiography essay lies in the need for self-reflection and
introspection. The writer must distill personal growth, lessons learned, and self-awareness from
their experiences. This adds a layer of complexity, as it requires the author to step back from
their own life and analyze it objectively.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on "Autobiography Essay Samples" demands a delicate balance
between self-expression, storytelling prowess, and insightful reflection. The difficulty lies in
navigating the intricacies of personal narrative while ensuring the engagement of the reader. The
process requires a profound understanding of oneself and the ability to transform personal
experiences into a coherent and meaningful piece of writing.

Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis
Ralph Waldo Emerson gave a speech to the men of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at
Cambridge University entitled The American Scholar in 1837. The speech
focused on the main ideas of transcendentalism as well as how different factors in
society affect man s ability to realize that they are their own individuals. Harold
Bloom, a well known literary critic who evaluated topics such as the bible and
Shakespeare, believed that Emerson s writing was the template for all future
authors. Bloom believed that adversity allows people to have a deeper
understanding of the world. However, Emerson focused on the loss of knowledge in
the society due to the misunderstanding of younger generations in his time period
while Bloom mainly focused on how Emerson s views on individualism and
transcendentalism affected all writing whether admitted or not. Harold Bloom was
correct in his critique, Out of Panic, Self Reliance published in 2008, when he
confirmed Ralph Waldo Emersons view point in his speech The American Scholar
(1837) stating that overcoming adversity is an essential part to gaining wisdom
and forming self reliance by comparing it to current political events in order to
show once again that Ralph Waldo Emerson was very influential to not only
authors but to the overall evolution of man s thoughts. It can be inferred from
Emerson that the adversity that he so deeply describes throughout his speech could
be man s eternal struggle to discover his own self reliance and experience real
world connections instead of just reading about them and not fully understanding or
even comprehending the meaning of what is being read. Ralph Waldo Emerson
separates society into two groups known as Man Thinking ( Emerson 2) who has
allowed himself to be open to new ways of life and understanding and Mere thinkers
(Emerson 2) who simply follow the trends and patterns society without any thought of
their own. He believes the Mere thinkers are inevitable lost in adversity and do not
fully understand transcendentalist ideas. Nevertheless, it will never be too late to
find self reliance and contribute an opinion to the world thus diversifying society.
When people finally rise above adversity they recognize the god within themselves

the past five years. The study shows the trend of loans for the past five years, the
types of loans that Societe Generale advances to its customers as identified by the
study respondents. Personal Loans, Auto Loans, School Fees Loans and Finance

medium scale enterprises qualify to access loans from the bank and that, personal
loans by salaried workers are the most accessed loanfacility at Societe Generale.
Institutional loans was next in line, followed by School Fees Loans, finance Lease,
Auto Loans and lastly, SME loans. The study found that on a scale of 1 5, 1 being the
lowest and 5 being the highest, SME loans have maintained a trend of the highest
payment default rate followed by Institutional loans (company scheme loans).
5.2.2 To identify the factors that account for bad loans
Research question two sought to identify the factors that account for bad loans in
Societe Generale. The study found that high national inflation causes many
businesses to fold up therefore rendering those businesses that have accessed loan
facilities unable to pay up. High interest rates on loans was the second most cited
reason for loan defaults amongst Moreover

In 1492, Christopher Columbus founded an island in the western Atlantic Ocean
and he named it Hispaniola. Hispaniola was inhabited by the Arawaks, and they
were the ones responsible for later giving Haiti its name. Haiti soon became one of
France s most prosperous colonies in the America s, and it also became one of the
world s leading chief coffee and sugar producers. Around the 18th century settlement
began to expand here, and Haitiwas settled by Creoles, slaves, Frenchmen, and freed
blacks. Around this time, the Haitian society was undergoing some tough times and a
debate over power had begun. The concern with governmental authority was a major
problem, and within a short period of time, a revolt for independence had broken out,

With all of the problems in Haiti continuing to add up, it is very difficult for Haiti
to rebuild their economy, and make it out of the present state in which they are
currently in (Shah). Though Haiti has been full of hardships and nothing seems to
go right there, it is still full of very talented people who use their experiences to
benefit themselves, and inform others of their life experiences. These people tell
their stories thorough various ways, and some of the most effective ways include
writing books and poems. One of the most renowned authors from Haiti is a woman
named Edwidge Danticat. Danticat was born on January 19, 1969 in Port au Prince,
Haiti. At the age of two her father moved to the United States with the intentions of
finding work, and two years later her mother did the same. While her parents were
away, Danticat stayed with her father s brother in the poor section of Port au
Prince. At the age of twelve, she was able to move to Brooklyn and live with her
parents again. Once there, she attended school and had a hard time adjusting to it
due to the fact that she only spoke Creole and the other students made fun of her on
a daily basis. As time progressed and she learned English, Danticat began to write
stories for her high school s newspaper, and this eventually led to her writing stories
for a living. Edwidge Danticat is a renowned author of Haiti because of her vivid

Taoism
Taoism
Taoism is a religion as well as a philosophy that can be dated all the way back to
around 500 B.C. It is one of the two dominant religions in China. Taoism is also
termed Daoism in the more common language system, called Hanyu Pinyin,
representing Chinese letters using Roman letters and is more commonly used
amongst China and around the world.
Like the Christian faith, they too use a sacred book, Tao Te Chingwritten by the
great Sage, Lao Tzu as a guidance. This text has been translated almost as much as
the Christian Holy Bible it. It consists of 81 poems or chapters that are quite broad
and vague and because of this, it can be interpreted and applied universally. It speaks
of possible inner greatness but also the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A sage is one who is simple, tranquil, very open to life, intelligent, and reserved. He
is not arrogant and careless to such political affairs, does not seek fame, and does
not discriminate opposites but embraces them. The sage is indifferent to success
or failure. He understands that life driven by self centered ambition will never
make sense, no matter how successful you are or with how many positive externals
you care to adorn it. When one does not let nature take its course, one may fail. He
understands that one may very much succeed but also has the ability to very much
fail. To be a sage is to be a man of peace. One avoids conflict, and steers away from
violence. One is not intimidated of death nor does one fear death. Life itself
acquires meaning only when one satisfies ones spiritual needs by living in total
harmony with the Tao. He must seek Supreme Ultimate which is the sum of all
specific principles. The Supreme Ultimate really is nothing within itself, but
concentration of responsiveness to principle as it is immanent and real in the affairs
of daily life. So to become a sage may seem difficult but achievable if clarity is what

National Security Letters (Nls)
National Security Letters or NSLs are subpoenas issued by the Federal Government
of the United States, for the purpose of gathering information relating to national
security(1). These letters are not warrants, and need no approval from a member of
the judiciary(2). These are legal under a number of congressional acts, most notably
the Electronic Communications Privacy act. Then Deputy Director of the Federal
Bureau of Investigation, John Pistole, had this to say about NSLs before the House
Committee on Intelligence; the FBI can obtain subscriber information for telephones
and electronic communications and can obtain toll billing information and electronic
communication transaction records. (2) However, these National Security Letters can

The tricky bit is that we don t know much about the National Security Letters that
are sent out, because interwoven into many NSLs, is a gag order, barring the
recipients from speaking about the NSL they received(3). These gag orders have
been challenged and challenged again in the courts for almost ten years. In Doe v.
Gonzales, the Second Appeals Circuit vacated the previous ruling of
unconstitutionality in 2008. Seven years later, the Ninth Appeals Circuit vacated
the Second Circuit s decision, and remanded it to the Second Circuit. On appeal,
the Ninth Circuit upheld the Second Circuit s decision that the gag order was, in
fact, constitutional, as the law had changed since the original decision. However
you feel about the gag orders, the fact of the matter is this; for the 405,226 NSLs
sent out by the FBI between 2003 2011, only 43 led to referrals to prosecutors(4).
That is a 0.00011% chance that a National Security Letter will lead just to a referral
to a prosecutor. In regards to this data, the Office of the Inspector General put out a
report in 2014 regarding the Federal Bureau of Investigation s use of National

Introducing Modern Management
Introducing Modern Management
Management is what runs everyday life, somewhat smoothly while everyone
conducts their every day life. Management by definition is the process of reaching
organizational goals by working with and through people and other organizational
resources. (Certo, Samuel C, Pg 5). Management in the role of a manager, is to guide
their employee s toward the corporate goals. Managers are able to complete this task
by following the management function, which contains several parts. These parts
consist of Planning, Organizing, Influencing, and Controlling. With all four of these
parts put together you have established the foundation of becoming a good manager,

Being a manager can present several problems for certain people. Woman in
particular have problems becoming a manager because it is thought they have a
lesser ability to control men, while it is also harder for them to maintain control
over a department or group of people if the employee s are men due to the fact that
men may be feeling inferior to the woman manager. While woman are able to
complete the task just as easily and capable as a male can, it is often harder for
higher level management to look past these issues. Although woman may be faced
with the Glass ceiling: an unfair system or set of attitudes that prevents some
people (such as women or people of a certain race) from getting the most powerful
jobs. (Glass Ceiling). It is important for them to continue working towards their
organizational goals, as there is a point where their determination and work will be
seen and they will be able to be moved up within the company. As Forbes states,
there are four objectives to staying ahead in the modern management world. Follow
from the front, understand technology, lead by example, and embracing vulnerability
(Forbes). All four of these management tips can help make you the best choice for
that promotion, or make it possible for you to be the best manager you can be. By
following from the front, you will be the first to be seen when the man up front turns

Enders Game Movie Vs Book
For this summer of 2015 I read Enders Game for my summer reading. The author of
this best seller is Orson Scott Card. This book won the 1985 Nebula award for best
novel and the 1986 Hugo award for best novel. This famous novel was made into a
major motion picture and in theaters during 2013. I choose Enders Game because
either I had read every other book on the list or the other books did not interest me.
Also Enders Game was available to me at the time so it was also convenient. Since
the movie of this book seemed to be well known and popular I assumed it would be
an even better book and I was right. Another reason I choose this book is because it
is a fantasy fiction novel and fiction is very intriguing to me. This book was
fascinating for me to read and enjoy.
Enders Game is a military science fiction novel. Set in Earths future, this book is
based on life on Earth and space after two warlike conflicts with an insectoid alien
species, the buggers and Earth. While the people of Earth are preparing for a third

The government prepares these selected children with increasingly difficult games
including some resembling a battle in a space like environment with zero gravity. In
these games is when Ender s genius in battle is revealed to the government. Ender

Plato s Theory Of Form
Plato coined the term Socratic questioning to encourage the open discussion of
philosophical theory for the purpose of improving said theory. Aristotle took
advantage of the practice of Socratic questioning to inquire about Plato s theory of
Form and its explanation of causality in comparison to Aristotle s own theories of
causality and being. Aristotlecriticizes Plato s theory of Form because it only
accounted for a one dimensional explanation of what things are made up of and what
identifies them. Aristotle offers his own explanations of causality and being through
his four causes and his categories of being in an attempt to rectify Plato s perceived
failures.
In Metaphysics 1.3 and 1.6 Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of forms, specifically his
accounts of causality. In order to understand why Aristotle disagrees so
wholeheartedly with Plato s theories it is important to understand Aristotle s own
theories on causality. Aristotle claimed that there were four causes that explain what
something is, what made it exist, and why it exists. The first is the material form
which accounts for the materials a thing is made of, next is the efficient form which
is the force that pushes the thing into existence, the third is the formal form which is
the essence or function of the thing in question, and the last is the final form which is
the purpose for which the thing in question exists. In the example of a house the
material form is the wood, concrete, and insulation that

Bless Me Ultima Character Analysis
Bless Me, Ultima
Tragedy:
In the book, Bless Me, Ultima, Antonio witnesses four deaths when all is said and
done, but two of them stand apart, because they re murders. Whether the death of
Lupito, himself a murderer, at the hands of the town mob that includes Antonio s dad

Raving in the river, he s shot down by multiple bullets, and Antonio witnesses the
whole thing.
Antonio s multiple tragedies made him a stronger human being throughout the novel.
Ultima helped guide young Antonio with her wisdom. As Antonio feels the loss of
his innocence, he looks to religion to answer his concerns. Antonio eventually
understands that loss of innocence is a crucial part of growing up.

The Age Of Jackson s Political History
The Age of Jackson
On particular, The Age of Jackson changed America s political history because
Jackson established new precedents with the government s relations with Indians,
the issue of state and federal rights and also established a political rivalry. The Age
of Jackson occurred during the time period from 1829 to 1837. During this time
period, the United Stated of America was under the presidential term of Andrew
Jackson. Ever since Andrew Jackson s election, there was a complete transformation
in the political history of the United States. Before Andrew Jackson, who in which
was the 7th president of the United States, there had only been presidents that did
nothing but follow imposes of George Washington. The presidents were John Adams,
Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and John Quincy Adams. These
presidents did not involve themselves with wars that occurred in Europe, they had no
political parties, and they did nothing about the relations with the Indians. They also
kept the Bank of America that President George Washington created. In the other
hand Jackson is known for the Trail of Tears, he ended, the Bank of America and
initiated a two party political system.
To initiate, one of the reasons that Jackson marked a new age in American political
history is the Trial of Tears which occurred from 1831 to 1838. This event in history
was when Jackson relocated the Indians from the east of the Mississippi River to the
west. Andrew Jackson believed that it
How Did Donatello Tell The Story Of The Annunciation
In your own words, explain how Donatello has told the story of The Annunciation in
sculpture and why contemporaries were so impressed with his achievement.
Donatello is considered to be one of the most influential artists of the 15th century. A
member of the innovative group of painters, architects and sculptors that
revolutionised art in
Florence at the beginning of the 15th century, he succeeded in becoming perhaps the
most successful
in his field due to his understanding of the aspects of classical sculpture and the
creative and
emotive way in which he adapted them to his own works. In particular, his reliefs
surpassed all
others of the time in terms of their dramatic effect and complexity of character

The story of the Annunciation is one that focuses on the centuries long Islamic
perspective of
judgement and expectation of others, especially women. Set during a period of time
where the
sacred nature of a woman s purity was highly valued, the angel Gabriel s message to
the Virgin
Mary was not one entirely void of danger and aprehension. An unwed mother would
undoubtedly
be persecuted by her peers and this is the danger that Mary faced with the
deliverance of the news.
Donatello s job was to not only create a skilled and beautiful piece of art but also to
depict the
varying emotions of the scene in such a way as to convey to his audience the true
story of the
Annunciation in all it s different aspects.
The placement of the figure of the Virgin is especially successful in displaying a
sense of shock on
her part. Frightened by the appearance of the angel, she has delicately turned her
body away from
him to the left while her right arm covers her left breast in surprise. He left arm

believe is right. In A P , Sammy is nineteen years old and works at a local grocery
store named the A P. His life changes the day he quits his job after defending three
girls that are called out by Lengel, the manager, for breaking the unwritten dress code.
In Barn Burning, Sarty is a ten year old boy who struggles between the fine line of
right and wrong when his father, Abner Snopes, is put on trial for burning down a
barn. When his father attempts to burn down another barn, Sarty takes charge and
warns the owner. A P and Barn Burning are short story classics that... Show more

Sarty never justifies his father s actions and is aware that if he allows things to
remain the same, he will become a product of his environment. This is his motive for
warning Abner s next barn burning victim and his chance to move on with his life.
The time periods and locations in which A P and Barn Burning take place are very
different. Sammy lives in a more favorable time in the United States than Sarty. A P
is set in a small town north of Boston, Massachusetts around 1960. At this time, the
United States was the main military manufacturer and financial power in the
capitalist world. The Hippie Movement just started and shocked many traditional
families with a new way of living. Sarty lives in Mississippi about twenty years after
the Civil War. Life was tough for Mississippians post Civil War. The Southern states
were in debt and devastation from the war was everywhere. Although America was
transforming into a more modern country in both stories, the time periods in which
they live are completely opposite.
Sammy and Sarty are two protagonists that have to mature beyond normal
circumstances and experience the real world at tender ages. Each character is forced
to grow up and refine themselves in their darkest hour. Sammy and Sarty are both
dissatisfied with their authority figures; however, the time periods in which they live
take place in different

The Death Of Trotsky
I was walking again. I do that a lot, because walking relaxes me. Sometimes it just
feels nice to stretch your legs, and get some fresh air. The Moscow air is so fresh that
it burns your face a bit, but I know that a little hypothermia is good for the soul. God,
I sound like air supply. Anyway, it was cold again. I mean it s always cold in
Moscow, but today it was different, because this walk wasn t for nothing. I was
intent on my purpose, so I moved at a brisk pace. I sped up, but made sure not to go
too fast so that the ice pick didn t dig into my thigh. I was walking to Leon s house
to killhim. As I stated earlier, I intend on killing Trotsky. I knew what would come if
I was victorious, but I felt pangs of guiltstrike my heart. I became unsure on whether
or not I could kill him. After all, he wasn t an enemy of the party, but a comrade.
He may have views that I despise, but he was pure at heart. Maybe, he rejected his
perfect life for a better one. There was just a chance that he was one of us, that he
sympathized with the workers, and wanted Russia to have the bright future of
communist red. I mentally scolded myself. I was intent on killing this man, and some
weak remorse cannot stop me. Remorse is an emotionthat plays into empathy, and
empathy is my enemy. Empathy is something that people who cry feel. It is a tool
of the upper class to make the lower class stay low, but I can t stop it. When I was a
child, I learned how feeling is wrong. I learned that caring

Mr. President, Dr. Conant, members of the Board of Overseers, Ladies and

I am profoundly grateful, touched by the great distinction and honor and great
compliment accorded me by the authorities of Harvard this morning. I am
overwhelmed, as a matter of fact, and I am rather fearful of my inability to maintain
such a high rating as you ve been generous enough to accord to me. In these historic
and lovely surroundings, this perfect day, and this very wonderful assembly, it is a
tremendously impressive thing to an individual in my position.
But to speak more seriously, I need not tell you that the world situation is very
serious. That must be apparent to all intelligent people. I think one difficulty is that
the problem is one of such enormous complexity that the very mass of facts
presented to the public by press and radio make it exceedingly difficult for the man in
the street to reach a clear appraisement of the situation. Furthermore, the people of
this country are distant from the troubled areas of the earth, and it is hard for them to
comprehend the plight and consequent reactions of the long suffering peoples of
Europe and the effect of those reactions on their governments in connection with our
efforts to promote peace in the world.
In considering the requirements for the rehabilitation of Europe, the physical loss of
life, the visible destruction of cities, factories, mines, and railroads was correctly
estimated, but it has become obvious during
The Main Strengths and Weaknesses of the Protectorate,...
The Main Strengths and Weaknesses of the Protectorate, 1653 1658
Cromwell was installed as Lord Protector in December 1653, and throughout his
time as Protector, Cromwell aimed to heal and settle the wounds of the past and to
create a godly England . However, by the end of his life the Protectorate had the
support of a narrow population. Nevertheless, the Protectorate had various strengths
and weaknesses.
An evident strength of the Protectorate was the aim to achieve a civilian based
government as shown in Source 3, where Cromwell did attempt to make parliament
representative as well as to give Parliament a genuine role in the constitution . The
system of government was fairly stable, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The National Church was aimed at saving the people of England, it was able to
guide and teach people, thus reform manners and behaviour. In addition, the
system of Triers and Ejectors set up in 1654 was effective as local commissioners
had the power to expel ministers of low standards. But, this did not mean that form
of worship was determined from the Church, each individual congregation was
able to worship in their own personal way. The Major Generals in 1657 did advance
godly reformation to a certain extent, as many districts did become godly, however
this did highly depend on the enthusiasm of the Major General, as demonstrated by
Major General Worsley in Lancashire, who was able to close over 200 alehouses.
This suggests that systems of law and order were enforced , so there was a deal of
progress made .
Although there were disagreements over the army in politics, it is evident that the
army were successful in suppressing rebellions as reflected in the crushing of
Penruddock s rising in 1655. Cromwell introduced the Major Generals, who were
successful in maintaining security, promoting godliness and reduced the size and cost
of the standing army. In addition, the Protectorate was successful in foreign policy,
although England failed in the Western Design, they capture
Income Statements And The Financial Records Of Any
Company
Finance Essay
Income Statements
Income statements are an important element crucial to the financial records of any
company. Any profit making organization is expected to have records containing its
income statements. Income statements are normally recorded annually at the end of a
specific financial period. The major purpose of an income statement is to show
stakeholders of the company such as managers and investors whether the company
made a profits or losses in the period being reported. This performance analysis
provided by the income statements can help managers come up with strategies to
improve on profitability and growth of the company (Alexander and Jorissen 2005).
Income statements contain revenues and expenses of a firm. Some of ... Show more

The fixed assets include land, fittings and equipment and plants. The current assets
on the other hand include cash, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses and
inventories. Current assets are assets that can be easily be converted into cash
whereas fixed assets are assets that last more than one financial period and are used
to generate current assets (Alexander and Jorissen 2005).
There are three different accounts that comprise of owners equity section in the
balance sheet. These are paid in capital, retained earnings and treasury stock. These
give more information on the shareholders shares and contributions regarding the
company (Williamson et al 2008).
Cash Flow Statements
Another key financial record for any profit making organization is the statement of
cash flows. It is a financial statement that shows how changes in the balance sheet
accounts and income affect cash and cash equivalents. It also breaks down the
analysis to operating, investing and financing activities within a given organization
(Williams et al 2008).
The three key sections of a cash flow statement are the operating, investing and
financing activities. The operating activities section of a statement of cash flows
indicates how much cash comes from sales of the company s goods and services,
less the amount of capital needed to make and sell these goods and services. This is
a key section for investors and prefer companies with a positive cash flow from
operating activities. The investing section
Neural Networks Are Used For Forecasting
Abstract Neural networks are used for forecasting. The purpose of any learning
algorithm is to find a function such that it maps a set of inputs to its correct output.
Some input and output patterns can be easily learned by this neural networks.
However, in the learning phase single layer neural networks cannot learn patterns that
are not linearly separable. Back propagation is a common method of training the
neural networks. We are trying to develope the back propagation (BP) neural network
to form a predictionmodel for prediction of various shares in stock market.

This paper has deep study of the BP neural network in
MATLAB, including how to create a neural network, how to initialize the network,
training and simulation, and using
MATLAB programming function and achieve the designed BP neural network. The
last but not the least, it is proved that the research method and the established model
are practical and effective by empirical analysis of several stocks. It not only
simplifies the network structure, but also improves the prediction accuracy as well,
owning good predictive capability and generalization.
Deliverables for Stage1 are as follows:
A general description of the system:
With the help of the prediction model, we are predicting the future price of different
stocks over a future period of time. To achieve this, we need to train our model
using the previous stock prices over a previous period of time, so that our model
will predict the future price of the respective stocks. We are using the yahoo financial
data set for training our data. The Back Propagation (BP) algorithm is used to train
the model that we are building using neural networks. We are modelling our

Simply Happy By Laozi Definition Of Happiness
Although the definition of happiness has been changed and rearranged for as long as
humans have existed, thousands upon thousands of years, some philosophers want a
hard definition of it. The term happiness signifies something different depending on
whom you ask. The question of What is happiness? has been theorized and discussed
by many philosophers throughout the years, and many have their own labyrinthine
conclusion that may put off the average person who just has a subconscious thought
of what is happinessand why we need it and/or experience it. A few theories on
happiness have emerged from people who are educated in this discussion like Matt
Killingsworth, Carl HonorГ©, Graham Hill, Dan Gilbert, and David Steindl Rast.
All who were featured in Simply Happy, a segment on the TED Radio Hour from
2014 and they give a more modern approach on being happy throughout life and share
other theories. The Tao Te Ching
by Laozi was written around the sixth century BCE
and is one of the classic texts in China which separates yourself from your life to
achieve happiness and a more recent theory of happiness from the past teachings of
the Dalai Lama, The Art of Happiness which strictly distincts happiness from desire
which are often thought of as related in today s modern society. The TED Radio
Hour show discusses if there is a secret to achieving happiness but, most of the
featured speakers agree on a simile to describe happiness. The secret to happiness
is like the secret of dieting; there is no true secret. The speakers from the radio
show talked about is that wealthiness may only bring temporary happiness, or
happiness without meaning, which goes hand in hand with a point from Laozi who
states, If you realize that you have enough, you are truly rich. (verse 75). This
statement alludes to the thought that wealth doesn t automatically bring happiness
and you can only be rich from life experiences. This idea of being rich, is similar to
Graham Hill s factoring wealth into happiness because he gained 30 million dollars
in his late 20 s, so he bought many items. He bought things he may have thought
were necessities at the time like a big house, nice cars, and gadgets. He then noticed

After running both CMC and ROC Race on Saturday in Brooklyn NY, I jumped
back in my Prius and drove over 250 miles to Pennsylvania to run the Extreme
version of the Hardcore Mudd Run course. Registration and Festival: HMR ran
both Saturday and Sunday, so turnout on Sunday was lower and registration was
fast and easy. The festival area was set up well with a band for the several live
bands that played for days. Pre race MC: HMR didn t have an actual MC per say,
but the local Fire Department came and provided a very beautiful and emotional
memorial service for all those lost on September 11th. The Course: The course
offered three versions, the Sprint, the Ultra, and the Extreme versions. I opted to
run the Extreme because it was the longest distance and offered the most obstacles.
I researched the obstacles and course prior to deciding to run HRM, but I had no
idea how much of the course was going to be spent going both up and down the
Tussey Ski Mountain. According to my GPS watch, the Extreme version of the
course was just over 7.7 miles in total distance, but as noted, it was the ascents up the

Absolute truth is unchanging, no matter the circumstances. Using that piece of
knowledge, it is safe to deduct that without an absolute truth, there would be no
point to possess a biblical worldview. The reason behind this is because there needs
to be a firm foundation in which the worldview is built. Therefore, to create a
biblical worldview, one must believe the absolute truth of the Bible first.

Importance of Ben Loman in Arthur Miller s Death of a...
The Importance of Ben Loman in in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Ben Loman is an important character in Death of a Salesman but he is quite
unusual. The audience encounters Uncle Ben during Willy Loman s hallucinations
of the past and as a result, it is tempting to disregard his character as just another
creation of Willy s delusional mind. However, Ben is much more than that. His
character is representative of Willy s unrealistic dreams as well as the realty of his life.
When the audience first encounters Ben (Miller 44), he represents the success that
Willy is striving for. Before the audience learns of the success that Ben encountered
in Africa, they see him on the stage accompanied by an idyllic musical motif ... Show

This time, however, Ben s motif, which turns out to be more sinister than idyllic,
precedes him; sotto voce at first then coming to a crescendo as repressed suicidal
thoughts come forward when Willy loses his job (Launsberry). When Ben finally
appears, Willy must ask him, how did you do it? (Miller 84) Ben s theme is heard for
the last time towards the end of the play in accents of dread (Miller 133) as Willy
finally resolves to commit suicide so that Biff may receive the insurance money.
While the idyllic theme music that accompanies Ben ad his father would at first seem
to represent Willy s positive memories of the past and optimistic views of the future,
they really represent selling out and abandonment. They oppose the fine theme of
nature that begins and ends the play (Launsberry).
Ben is also a very peculiar character. The audience first encounters him with the full
knowledge that he is dead. Ben is also the one figure that is able to move freely
between the past and the present. Because Ben represents that which Willy seeks,
Willy feels that he can achieve his goal the same way that Ben did and so he believes
that opportunism, cheating and cruelty are success incarnate (Smith).
Ben is also a peculiar character in that he is not really a character. For one, he was
completely a figment of Willy s imagination. He also does not appear inn the
requiem (Smith). In a Paris Review Interview, Miller acknowledged
Workplace Wellness Programs
Some employers suggest wellness programs to help educate staff on healthy living
and lifestyles. These programs usually incorporate health topics such as managing
blood pressure, weight control and management, stress management, healthy eating,
cholesterol management, cancer prevention, and exercise programs. Instructing
the basics is an excellent way to start the workforce on a healthy lifestyle (Lotich,
2011). A prime example is Diabetes Mellitus. Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that
occurs when the body is not able to use blood glucose (sugar). Blood sugar levels
are controlled by insulin, a hormone in the body that helps move glucose (sugar)
from the blood to muscles and other tissues. Diabetes occurs when the pancreas does
not make enough insulin or the body does not respond to the insulin that is made

The effectiveness of HCI can also be measured by doing tests on that HCI to see
how much errors it has, and after doing tests if the results show that it has a lot of

HCI can make the user slow down when interacting with the HCI, but if there are not
that much errors then it can be known as an effective HCI, because the user can use it
effectively without having to troubleshoot. The effectiveness of HCI can be

Jones s work Analogy/ Dora: Tramontane . I saw vibratory movement and a certain
movement motif of wobbling knees. I also appreciated Jones s use of stillness.
When there was stillness I felt that it amplified the dialogue being spoken and it
created a sense that what was coming next was going to be important. The
relationship between the choreography and the dialogue shifts throughout the piece.
At certain times the dancers literally act out what is being spoken and use a lot of
pedestrian movement, while other times the movement is more abstract. Sometimes
the movement would interrupt the dialogue like when Dora disperses a group of
thugs that were after her father by telling them he s not here . Immediately after
those words are spoken the music dramatically shifts and the dancing turns slightly
chaotic. There were times where the transitions were sharp, and other times where
the dancing just flowed underneath the dialogue. A lot of the choreography
featured close movements and hand gestures that were simple yet made you feel
emotions. An example of this is when Jenna Riegel is speaking of the horrific
passing of Dora s sister due to a complicated abortion while I Ling Liu performs one
simple gesture that made tears well up within me. Bill T. Jones knew that a holocaust
survival story would not be something easy to take in, so he provides several light

which is why it addresses the context, content, language and choices of that book.
However, there are some differences between my childrenВґs book and The Lovely

SarahВґs First Castle is the metaphor of The Lovely Bones because it is about a little
girlВґs first sandcastle that was destroyed by a wave. Therefore, the ocean
represents the evilness of Mr. Harvey and the power that he felt when he easily

death with the destruction of the sandcastle caused by the ocean. Another similitude
is that I use the same principal characters as The Lovely Bones and that the context
of the story is almost the same( it wouldn t be the same because my book is written
in a metaphorical way). Is like they are the same stories but in parallel

Essay On The Battle Of Bunker Hill
Introduction
Your hear thunder and lightning screaming. A cannon flies through the air and with a
roaring bang, crashes down on the road before you. You are protected the walls of
the earthworks you had helped build are still together. You see another cannon fly
through the air towards you, but the effect is no different. The walls are sturdy, they
can be torn down. The British come marching up the hill, guns are clutched in their
hands. You hear the son of a gun fire, and then another gun fires, and another. Your
commander shouts, Fire . You load your gun and press the trigger. Bang! The fight
has begun.

The battle of bunker hill was the first battle that the patriots and the British were
fighting against each other. Even though the British had won this war the battle it
was clearer that the British were have a tough time beating the colonists. This also
boost the colonists spirit. Some people even considered this a patriot victory because
it showed that the colonists were not going to be defeated easily and the colonists
have figured out the British strategy and know the British would need a different
The Catholic Faith
The Catholic faith is based on this central figure, Jesus, who teaches them how to
live in a manner according to the ultimate creator: God. There are ways to view
Jesus in the modern day through different means of interaction. People culminate to
church on Sundays to ensure that they are live according to God through their daily
activities. Christians view Mary and the Saints as great examples of how to live
according to Jesus. These are interaction are essential to the Catholic faith, but the
most important reappearance of Jesus is through the Sacraments. Essentially, the
Sacraments are a way of getting inside of the Bible by committing to the same actions
that Jesus performed in the Bible. By conducting the sacraments, a person is
considered to be transformed by doing the same things Jesus did. The reappearance of
Jesus is best viewed through the Sacraments, more specifically in An Introduction to
Catholicism through the explanation of the concept of sacramentality, which
encompasses baptism, confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist. In order to grasp an
understanding of the Sacraments, a person must first understand the concept of
sacramentality. According to Lawrence Cunningham, the word sacrament mean[s] a
visible sign of divine power manifested in humanity (Cunningham, pg.101). This
concept of divine power portrayed in humanity can be understood as a public sign
that God exists. Essentially, the performance of a sacrament is God making his
presence known to the
Modern Mythology
Modern Mythology Not all mythology comes from ancient cultures. People all
around the world continue to create new myths and rework existing ones. Modern
technology such as movies, publishing, telecommunications, and the internet allow
folktales, rumors, and myths to travel faster around the world. A feature of some
modern legends is that they originated as artistic creations. Modern legends offer
images of the best and worspect aspects of mankind. Modern myths suggest that
good behavior can be rewarded while greedy and foolish behavior will be punished.
While modern mythology is different from ancient mythology they are similar in
that monstrous and scary partly human creatures still fascinate people today.
Vampires and Werewolves are examples of modern mythologies most fascinating
monsters. Modern mythology spawns from life s wonder, excitement, mystery,
and fear. One of the modern mythological people is Santa. The Santa Clause story
stretches all the way back to the 3rd century. The legend can be traced back to
hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. It is believed that Nichola was
born sometime around 280 A.D. in Patara, near Myra in modern day Turkey.
Nicholas became the subject of many later told legends. It is said that St. Nicholas
gave away all of his inherited wealth and traveled the countryside helping out the
poor and the sick. One of St. Nicholas s best story is that he saved three poor sisters
from being sold into slavery or prostitution by their
The Impact Of Advancements Of Robotic Technology Essay
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of the advancements of
robotic technology in libraries. It provides a literature based background on the
general state of robotics and adds insights related to the library setting.
Additionally, it looks into the factors that libraries need to consider when planning
to acquire robots, including finances, staff and technical knowledge, space and
charging facilities. Finally, it provides a quick look at how this technology will
affect both the libraries and communities. I. Introduction The concept of robots has
been with humans for a long time. From the robot knight plan of Leonardo da
Vinci to the automatons of Jacques de Vaucanson, to the robots created by several
robotics companies, people have demonstrated a fascination. The word robot came
from the Czech word, robota which means forced labor . In 1921, writer Karel
Capek used it in his play entitled Rossum s Universal Robots (R.U.R.). The credit for
coming up with such term, however, goes to Josef Capek, his brother. Presently, robot
means a machine that performs complex actions, similar to humans or other animals;
also a machine that can perform repetitive tasks, guided by automatic controls.
(Shulman Buckley, 2014). Advances in technology have allowed the world to move
forward in the creation of these machines for various purposes. Libraries, being both
learning and cultural hubs of societies, have unique opportunities to introduce the
idea of robots.

Also Netflix needs to prepare a better plan to recover old customers, gain new
customers and make sure that the people who still have Netflix keep it. Establishing
a bundle price for both online streaming and DVD rental will allow The Netflix
Company to recover some market shares and remain the leading overall digital film
company. The recommendations are as follows:
1. Advertise the new bundle price of the online streaming and DVD rental. The
advertisement department should develop new commercials about the changes that
Netflix is about to offer for customers. The publicity of the new prices should ensure
the growth on the profit for the company.
2. Emphasize that old customers will get the 1 month trial for free. This will
definitely show all our customers that we want them to come back to Netflix as
loyal customers and also if they come back they will be rewarded.
3. Stop charging for extra Blu ray rentals. Blockbuster has a DVD plans that does not
charge extra for Blu ray. If Netflix offers the same service for a reasonable price more
people will start using Netflix.
Introduction/ Background
Netflix previously had a plan in which it included both online streaming, as well as
unlimited DVDs by mail, 4 out at a time, for $9.99 a month (Gregory, 2011).
However, in July of 2011, CEO, Reed Hastings, announced that they were going to
separate the online and DVDs plan and charge
Quiet Kill Quotes
Quiet Kill Sherlock slumped to the ground. Why did you kill her? She was an idiot, a
jerk just like you. She didn t give up the pussy. All I wanted was to get laid. My god
it s only pussy. She was acting like she was some Queen of Sheba. And then I stabbed
her. Sherlock said, Are you saying after you stabbed her you raped her? Is that how it
was? He was confused, because what his Coz just did defied his nature. For all his
roughness and arrogance, Wormwood was transformed when he was in the presence
of girls. He spoke in a voice as soft as the silken filaments that float out of a cocoon.
On the flip side, who was he to criticize. It was true his Coz had a problem, but he
too had one too. His was of a strange kind too. He had told his
Titration Of Hcl Lab Report
For this experiment, a series of strong acid strong base titrations were performed to
determine the unknown solution concentration of HCl. KHP was first titrated with
NaOH in order to create a standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to
titrate a known volume of the unknown 1 HCl solution. The results were then used to
determine the exact concentration of the original HCl sample. One thing that could
be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of deionized water.
Throughout the rinsing process of the pHprobe, the deionized water s pH reading
would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the
analyte, the results were slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could
have resulted in the pH of the solutions being slightly off when it came to the
LabQuest readings.
The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one
another throughout the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint
than at the equivalence point. For the titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of
NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00 mL and the 2nd derivative curve amount was
9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP and NaOH, this same trend was
seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined by looking at the
equivalence point. This is the point where all of the H+ was neutralized by OH . The
endpoint is where the indicator, phenolphthalein, changed color based on pH. The

Jfk s Connections To The Mafia
The Kennedy family had many connections to the mafia. Giancana explained the
laughter from his testimony afterward. He said, Sitting there, I couldn t help but
laugh...I was thinking about a night with his brother at the Cal Neva. It was all so
funny...I couldn t help it. What a bunch of fucking hypocrites. Giancana was
alleging that JFK slept with Marilyn Monroe at the Cal Neva Lodge in Tahoe, NV, a
mob infested nightclub owned by Frank Sinatra. JFK s presidential campaign in 1960
benefitted from the help of the mafia. It s well documented that Sam Giancana
funneled massive campaign contributions to JFK along with gathering the vote of the
unions. Giancana also claimed to have bribed many law enforcement and local
officials to help JFK win
Hemoglobin In The Gel Electrophoresis Report
Hemoglobin is present in red blood cells of the body and transport oxygen from
lungs to the rest of the human body (National, 2015). Humans carry different types of
hemoglobin, but there are three common types found in the gel electrophoresis. One
of the test blood that help people to diagnose any disease is the hemoglobin
electrophoresis. Hemoglobin electrophoresis test looks at the different types of
hemoglobin in the blood, and can help diagnose the type of anemia that the person
could have (National, 2014). The three common types of hemoglobin presents in
humans are normal hemoglobin, sickle trait hemoglobin, and sickle cell hemoglobin.
Abnormal hemoglobin, called hemoglobin S, causes sickle cell disease (SCD). The

Special Needs Kids Are Not Sick Or Gross
Special needs kids are not sick or gross. They only want to be accepted. They want
to feel normal. They cannot help the way they were born. People who have never
dealt with special needs children do not see what they go through on a daily basis.
One out of every 10 children under the age of 14 has some type of special need.
Which includes any medical disability, chronic or life threatening illness. The
children and parents both deal with emotional battles. The parents are more tired
emotionally and physically then a parent without a special need kid.. They feel
alone, because raising a special needs kid is very challenging and takes a lot more
effort. They are scared because they do not know what the future holds.
Organizations like CEIP give kids and parents more hope. They give them
something positive to look forward to. The Cumberland Early Invention Program is
a very supportive program. It is good to know there are still non profit companies out
there that are genuinely non profit . Some companies/programs claim to be non profit
but they still have their hand in the cookie jar. The other companies claim to use a
certain amount in other areas. In which, they never state exactly what other areas.
The Cumberland Early Invention Program puts 100% back into the company while
individuals are volunteering 100%. So in other words, the Cumberland Early
Invention Program is actually for people that need help and not for themselves.

Essay on The Moment of Inertia of a Disk and a Ring
Objective: The objective of this laboratory was to theoretically calculate the moment
of inertia of a disk and a ring and then to verify the moment of inertia for both objects
through experiment. This laboratory shows that while the theoretical is not within
the uncertainty of the experimental, both values are extremely similar to each other.

This calculation will be done later on. After using equation 1 to find the experimental
moment of inertia, the average and standard deviation of the five trials for No Ring
and Ring were calculated using Excel commands for average and standard deviation.
The averages will be used later on in order to calculate the experimental moment of
inertia for the ring. In the next step, the theoretical moment of inertia was calculated
for the disk by using equation 2.
I_disk^th=1/2 M_d R_d^2(2)
In the equation above, the I_disk^th is the theoretical moment of inertia of the disk,
M_d is the mass of the disk, Rd is the radius of the disk. Next, the theoretical moment
of inertia of the Ring was calculated using equation 3 below.
I_ring^th=1/2 M_r (R_1^2+R_2^2)(3)
In the equation above, I_ring^this the theoretical moment of inertia of the Ring, Mr
is the mass of the ring, R_1^2 is the inner radius of the ring, and R_2^2 is the outer
radius of the ring. In order to compare the experimental and theoretical moments of
inertia of the Ring, the experimental moment of inertia of the ring alone has to be
calculated. It is given that the experimental moment of the system equals to the
experimental moment of inertia of the ring plus the experimental moment of inertia
of the disk. The experimental moment of inertia can be found by solving
The Use Of Secondary Steelmaking Techniques On The
Control...
Introduction
The use of secondary steelmaking techniques has made a major input to the
optimisation of inclusion population for the control of modern steel properties. The
development of new secondary steelmaking techniques was due to an increasing
demand for improved and consistent qualities of high grade steels for chemical,
petroleum, aerospace, and nuclear industries (Kiessling, 1989).( pg45). Secondary
steelmaking includes provision for temperature control, bath agitation, efficient slag
metal interaction and precise addition of alloying elements and reactants. With those
technologies of secondary steelmaking process the number, size, morphology, and
composition of inclusions can be controlled (Kiessling, 1989). (pg45).
The global demand for clean steel has increased in the last years due to the demand
for better performance. There is need to develop steel with fewer inclusions to
improve performance. Steel inclusions impede performance as they may act as
sources of crack growth and propagation. Some inclusions affect steel properties such
as fatigue, ductility and weldability. According to Riyahimalayeri et al. oxide
inclusions reduce the rolling contact fatigue life of steel products even when the total
oxygen content is below the 10 ppm (Riyahimalayeri, et al., 2013). Inclusions like
sulphur reduce steel toughness which hinders performance. It is imperative to
develop methods that are aimed at reducing steel inclusions for better performance.

The Healing Rituals Of Navajo Tribes

Comparison Between Optical Telescope Systems And
Modern...
Background knowledge:
The topic of this investigation is to compare and contrast three different optical
telescope systems that are used in modern day times. The three main telescope
systems that will be focused on in this report will be reflecting, refracting and
cassegrain which is a combination of both and how different types of error such as
aberration effect the telescopes ability to capture an image and the quality of the
image it produces.
Reflecting telescopes use mirrors to reflect incoming light rays onto a secondary
mirror which magnifies it through an eye piece to form an image. (BBC, 2015)
When light rays come in contact with the mirror they are called the incident ray
and then when the ray reflects back off the mirror it is then called the reflected ray.
As the light rays hit and leave the mirror at particular angles these are titled angle of
incidence and angle of reflection which can be seen in the figure 2 below.
By the first law of reflection it is assumed that the angle of reflection is equal to the
angle of incidence. This would only be true for totally reflective flat surfaces.
When light rays come into contact with convex and concave mirrors parallel to the
normal they are reflected onto a focal point . To find the focal point of a mirror, the
mirror formula can be used.
1/f=1/u+1/v
Where f is the focal length, u is the objects actual distance away from the mirror and
v is the distance the image is formed from the mirror.

When Harpo (her Misters son) asked Celie what should I do about Sophia Celie
responded with beat her . This displayed that Celie thinks her identity is to answer
to her Mister and if she doesn t she will be beat; she doesn t really know her true
self and capabilities. Although Celie doesn t really understand her identity she still
has one. In contrast, in The Handmaids Tale most of the characters aren t even
given an identity, they are nameless. No character is represented by their own
names, more part of groups such as Handmaid, Wife or Martha. This shows that in
this novel the body of women and the functions are more important than their minds
and identity. Most women were often described by their features, their eyes and
hands , this is to show the audience the lack of identity they hold and how their
psychical features are deemed more important than their mental ability. When one
Ofglen is replaced with another the Handmaid quotes this woman has been my
partner for two weeks. I don t know what happened to the one before . This then
shows how disconnected the women are and how the use of the word partner is
used to hide the identity of the person. This also illustrates that the personality of the
women is not essential for the job at hand, as they are just easily replaced with
someone else. The Handmaids Tale and The Color Purple analyse the ways women
are destined for one identity, the identity to serve men and continue to
George Herbert Walker Bush s Accomplishments
George Herbert Walker Bush was the 41st President of the United States from
1989 to 1993. Beginning his political career in 1964, Bush ran for a U.S. Senate
seat against Democratic Senator Ralph Yarborough. Bush ran a hard yet struggling
to own campaign causing him to win the Republican nomination but lose in the
general election. About two years later, he won a seat in the U.S. House of
Representatives where he served two full terms. When his two terms were up,
Bush decided to take another chance and run for the U.S. Senate seat once more
but was again defeated in the general election. While running as a moderate
Republican, he finally was able to win election capturing greatly over fifty percent
of votes. Becoming too big headed and too cocky, Bush later, when his two terms of

hard in running once more for the campaign. Clinching the nomination for his
second run, Bush began to consider his choice for vice president. After a while, he
chose Dan Quayle, the junior senator from Indiana. Bush was pulled towards
Quayle because of his youth and conservative achievements. He was more
conservative than Bush, and some people thought that he would be great for the
conservative base of the party as well as to women voters. However, Quayle became
a questionable choice and a doubtful running mate because many saw him as being
too young and inexperienced to be a vice

  • 1. Autobiography Essay Samples Crafting an essay on the subject of "Autobiography Essay Samples" can pose a unique set of challenges. The complexity lies not only in the task of narrating one's own life story but also in the delicate balance required to provide insightful reflections and engaging content. The writer must navigate through the intricacies of self-expression, choosing relevant events, and shaping them into a coherent narrative. Delving into personal experiences demands a certain level of introspection and emotional openness, which can be both rewarding and daunting. The challenge is to present a genuine and authentic self-portrait while avoiding the pitfalls of self-indulgence or oversharing. Striking this balance requires a keen understanding of the audience and a thoughtful selection of experiences that contribute meaningfully to the overarching theme. Furthermore, the task involves the art of storytelling, as the writer must captivate the reader with a compelling narrative arc. This requires careful consideration of the chronological order, pacing, and the incorporation of vivid details to bring the autobiography to life. The challenge extends to maintaining coherence and relevance, ensuring that each section contributes to the overall narrative without becoming disjointed or overwhelming. Another difficulty in writing an autobiography essay lies in the need for self-reflection and introspection. The writer must distill personal growth, lessons learned, and self-awareness from their experiences. This adds a layer of complexity, as it requires the author to step back from their own life and analyze it objectively. In conclusion, crafting an essay on "Autobiography Essay Samples" demands a delicate balance between self-expression, storytelling prowess, and insightful reflection. • 2. Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis Ralph Waldo Emerson gave a speech to the men of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Cambridge University entitled The American Scholar in 1837. The speech focused on the main ideas of transcendentalism as well as how different factors in society affect man s ability to realize that they are their own individuals. Harold Bloom, a well known literary critic who evaluated topics such as the bible and Shakespeare, believed that Emerson s writing was the template for all future authors. Bloom believed that adversity allows people to have a deeper understanding of the world. However, Emerson focused on the loss of knowledge in the society due to the misunderstanding of younger generations in his time period while Bloom mainly focused on how Emerson s views on individualism and transcendentalism affected all writing whether admitted or not. Harold Bloom was correct in his critique, Out of Panic, Self Reliance published in 2008, when he confirmed Ralph Waldo Emersons view point in his speech The American Scholar (1837) stating that overcoming adversity is an essential part to gaining wisdom and forming self reliance by comparing it to current political events in order to show once again that Ralph Waldo Emerson was very influential to not only authors but to the overall evolution of man s thoughts. It can be inferred from Emerson that the adversity that he so deeply describes throughout his speech could be man s eternal struggle to discover his own self reliance and experience real world connections instead of just reading about them and not fully understanding or even comprehending the meaning of what is being read. Ralph Waldo Emerson separates society into two groups known as Man Thinking ( Emerson 2) who has allowed himself to be open to new ways of life and understanding and Mere thinkers (Emerson 2) who simply follow the trends and patterns society without any thought of their own. He believes the Mere thinkers are inevitable lost in adversity and do not fully understand transcendentalist ideas. Nevertheless, it will never be too late to find self reliance and contribute an opinion to the world thus diversifying society. When people finally rise above adversity they recognize the god within themselves

  • 4. Danticat s The Farming of Bones and George Orwell s... In 1492, Christopher Columbus founded an island in the western Atlantic Ocean and he named it Hispaniola. Hispaniola was inhabited by the Arawaks, and they were the ones responsible for later giving Haiti its name. Haiti soon became one of France s most prosperous colonies in the America s, and it also became one of the world s leading chief coffee and sugar producers. Around the 18th century settlement began to expand here, and Haitiwas settled by Creoles, slaves, Frenchmen, and freed blacks. Around this time, the Haitian society was undergoing some tough times and a debate over power had begun. The concern with governmental authority was a major problem, and within a short period of time, a revolt for independence had broken out, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With all of the problems in Haiti continuing to add up, it is very difficult for Haiti to rebuild their economy, and make it out of the present state in which they are currently in (Shah). Though Haiti has been full of hardships and nothing seems to go right there, it is still full of very talented people who use their experiences to benefit themselves, and inform others of their life experiences. These people tell their stories thorough various ways, and some of the most effective ways include writing books and poems. One of the most renowned authors from Haiti is a woman named Edwidge Danticat. Danticat was born on January 19, 1969 in Port au Prince, Haiti. At the age of two her father moved to the United States with the intentions of finding work, and two years later her mother did the same. While her parents were away, Danticat stayed with her father s brother in the poor section of Port au Prince. At the age of twelve, she was able to move to Brooklyn and live with her parents again. Once there, she attended school and had a hard time adjusting to it due to the fact that she only spoke Creole and the other students made fun of her on a daily basis. As time progressed and she learned English, Danticat began to write stories for her high school s newspaper, and this eventually led to her writing stories for a living. Edwidge Danticat is a renowned author of Haiti because of her vivid descriptions
  • 5. Taoism Taoism Taoism is a religion as well as a philosophy that can be dated all the way back to around 500 B.C. It is one of the two dominant religions in China. Taoism is also termed Daoism in the more common language system, called Hanyu Pinyin, representing Chinese letters using Roman letters and is more commonly used amongst China and around the world. Like the Christian faith, they too use a sacred book, Tao Te Chingwritten by the great Sage, Lao Tzu as a guidance. This text has been translated almost as much as the Christian Holy Bible it. It consists of 81 poems or chapters that are quite broad and vague and because of this, it can be interpreted and applied universally. It speaks of possible inner greatness but also the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A sage is one who is simple, tranquil, very open to life, intelligent, and reserved. He is not arrogant and careless to such political affairs, does not seek fame, and does not discriminate opposites but embraces them. The sage is indifferent to success or failure. He understands that life driven by self centered ambition will never make sense, no matter how successful you are or with how many positive externals you care to adorn it. When one does not let nature take its course, one may fail. He understands that one may very much succeed but also has the ability to very much fail. To be a sage is to be a man of peace. One avoids conflict, and steers away from violence. One is not intimidated of death nor does one fear death. Life itself acquires meaning only when one satisfies ones spiritual needs by living in total harmony with the Tao. He must seek Supreme Ultimate which is the sum of all specific principles. The Supreme Ultimate really is nothing within itself, but concentration of responsiveness to principle as it is immanent and real in the affairs of daily life. So to become a sage may seem difficult but achievable if clarity is what is being
  • 6. National Security Letters (Nls) National Security Letters or NSLs are subpoenas issued by the Federal Government of the United States, for the purpose of gathering information relating to national security(1). These letters are not warrants, and need no approval from a member of the judiciary(2). These are legal under a number of congressional acts, most notably the Electronic Communications Privacy act. Then Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, John Pistole, had this to say about NSLs before the House Committee on Intelligence; the FBI can obtain subscriber information for telephones and electronic communications and can obtain toll billing information and electronic communication transaction records. (2) However, these National Security Letters can only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tricky bit is that we don t know much about the National Security Letters that are sent out, because interwoven into many NSLs, is a gag order, barring the recipients from speaking about the NSL they received(3). These gag orders have been challenged and challenged again in the courts for almost ten years. In Doe v. Gonzales, the Second Appeals Circuit vacated the previous ruling of unconstitutionality in 2008. Seven years later, the Ninth Appeals Circuit vacated the Second Circuit s decision, and remanded it to the Second Circuit. On appeal, the Ninth Circuit upheld the Second Circuit s decision that the gag order was, in fact, constitutional, as the law had changed since the original decision. However you feel about the gag orders, the fact of the matter is this; for the 405,226 NSLs sent out by the FBI between 2003 2011, only 43 led to referrals to prosecutors(4). That is a 0.00011% chance that a National Security Letter will lead just to a referral to a prosecutor. In regards to this data, the Office of the Inspector General put out a report in 2014 regarding the Federal Bureau of Investigation s use of National Security

  • 14. Plato s Theory Of Form Plato coined the term Socratic questioning to encourage the open discussion of philosophical theory for the purpose of improving said theory. Aristotle took advantage of the practice of Socratic questioning to inquire about Plato s theory of Form and its explanation of causality in comparison to Aristotle s own theories of causality and being. Aristotlecriticizes Plato s theory of Form because it only accounted for a one dimensional explanation of what things are made up of and what identifies them. Aristotle offers his own explanations of causality and being through his four causes and his categories of being in an attempt to rectify Plato s perceived failures. In Metaphysics 1.3 and 1.6 Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of forms, specifically his accounts of causality. In order to understand why Aristotle disagrees so wholeheartedly with Plato s theories it is important to understand Aristotle s own theories on causality. Aristotle claimed that there were four causes that explain what something is, what made it exist, and why it exists. The first is the material form which accounts for the materials a thing is made of, next is the efficient form which is the force that pushes the thing into existence, the third is the formal form which is the essence or function of the thing in question, and the last is the final form which is the purpose for which the thing in question exists. In the example of a house the material form is the wood, concrete, and insulation that

Simply Happy By Laozi Definition Of Happiness Although the definition of happiness has been changed and rearranged for as long as humans have existed, thousands upon thousands of years, some philosophers want a hard definition of it. The term happiness signifies something different depending on whom you ask. The question of What is happiness? has been theorized and discussed by many philosophers throughout the years, and many have their own labyrinthine conclusion that may put off the average person who just has a subconscious thought of what is happinessand why we need it and/or experience it. A few theories on happiness have emerged from people who are educated in this discussion like Matt Killingsworth, Carl HonorГ©, Graham Hill, Dan Gilbert, and David Steindl Rast. All who were featured in Simply Happy, a segment on the TED Radio Hour from 2014 and they give a more modern approach on being happy throughout life and share other theories. The Tao Te Ching by Laozi was written around the sixth century BCE and is one of the classic texts in China which separates yourself from your life to achieve happiness and a more recent theory of happiness from the past teachings of the Dalai Lama, The Art of Happiness which strictly distincts happiness from desire which are often thought of as related in today s modern society. The TED Radio Hour show discusses if there is a secret to achieving happiness but, most of the featured speakers agree on a simile to describe happiness. The secret to happiness is like the secret of dieting; there is no true secret. The speakers from the radio show talked about is that wealthiness may only bring temporary happiness, or happiness without meaning, which goes hand in hand with a point from Laozi who states, If you realize that you have enough, you are truly rich. (verse 75). This statement alludes to the thought that wealth doesn t automatically bring happiness and you can only be rich from life experiences. This idea of being rich, is similar to Graham Hill s factoring wealth into happiness because he gained 30 million dollars in his late 20 s, so he bought many items. He bought things he may have thought were necessities at the time like a big house, nice cars, and gadgets. He then noticed he wasn t

The Importance of Ben Loman in in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Ben Loman is an important character in Death of a Salesman but he is quite unusual. The audience encounters Uncle Ben during Willy Loman s hallucinations of the past and as a result, it is tempting to disregard his character as just another creation of Willy s delusional mind. However, Ben is much more than that. His character is representative of Willy s unrealistic dreams as well as the realty of his life. (Miller 84) Ben s theme is heard for the last time towards the end of the play in accents of dread (Miller 133) as Willy finally resolves to commit suicide so that Biff may receive the insurance money. While the idyllic theme music that accompanies Ben ad his father would at first seem to represent Willy s positive memories of the past and optimistic views of the future, they really represent selling out and abandonment. They oppose the fine theme of nature that begins and ends the play (Launsberry). Ben is also a very peculiar character. The audience first encounters him with the full knowledge that he is dead. Ben is also the one figure that is able to move freely between the past and the present. Because Ben represents that which Willy seeks, Willy feels that he can achieve his goal the same way that Ben did and so he believes that opportunism, cheating and cruelty are success incarnate (Smith). Ben is also a peculiar character in that he is not really a character. For one, he was completely a figment of Willy s imagination. He also does not appear inn the requiem (Smith). When there was stillness I felt that it amplified the dialogue being spoken and it created a sense that what was coming next was going to be important. The relationship between the choreography and the dialogue shifts throughout the piece. At certain times the dancers literally act out what is being spoken and use a lot of pedestrian movement, while other times the movement is more abstract. Sometimes the movement would interrupt the dialogue like when Dora disperses a group of thugs that were after her father by telling them he s not here . Immediately after those words are spoken the music dramatically shifts and the dancing turns slightly chaotic. There were times where the transitions were sharp, and other times where the dancing just flowed underneath the dialogue. A lot of the choreography featured close movements and hand gestures that were simple yet made you feel emotions. An example of this is when Jenna Riegel is speaking of the horrific passing of Dora s sister due to a complicated abortion while I Ling Liu performs one simple gesture that made tears well up within me. It provides a literature based background on the general state of robotics and adds insights related to the library setting. Additionally, it looks into the factors that libraries need to consider when planning to acquire robots, including finances, staff and technical knowledge, space and charging facilities. Finally, it provides a quick look at how this technology will affect both the libraries and communities. I. Introduction The concept of robots has been with humans for a long time. From the robot knight plan of Leonardo da Vinci to the automatons of Jacques de Vaucanson, to the robots created by several robotics companies, people have demonstrated a fascination. The word robot came from the Czech word, robota which means forced labor . In 1921, writer Karel Capek used it in his play entitled Rossum s Universal Robots (R.U.R.). The credit for coming up with such term, however, goes to Josef Capek, his brother. Presently, robot means a machine that performs complex actions, similar to humans or other animals; also a machine that can perform repetitive tasks, guided by automatic controls. (Shulman Buckley, 2014). Advances in technology have allowed the world to move forward in the creation of these machines for various purposes. Libraries, being both learning and cultural hubs of societies, have unique opportunities to introduce the idea of robots.

KHP was first titrated with NaOH in order to create a standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to titrate a known volume of the unknown 1 HCl solution. The results were then used to determine the exact concentration of the original HCl sample. One thing that could be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of deionized water. Throughout the rinsing process of the pHprobe, the deionized water s pH reading would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the analyte, the results were slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could have resulted in the pH of the solutions being slightly off when it came to the LabQuest readings. The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one another throughout the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint than at the equivalence point. For the titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00 mL and the 2nd derivative curve amount was 9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP and NaOH, this same trend was seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined by looking at the equivalence point. Introduction The use of secondary steelmaking techniques has made a major input to the optimisation of inclusion population for the control of modern steel properties. The development of new secondary steelmaking techniques was due to an increasing demand for improved and consistent qualities of high grade steels for chemical, petroleum, aerospace, and nuclear industries (Kiessling, 1989).( pg45). Secondary steelmaking includes provision for temperature control, bath agitation, efficient slag metal interaction and precise addition of alloying elements and reactants. With those technologies of secondary steelmaking process the number, size, morphology, and composition of inclusions can be controlled (Kiessling, 1989). (pg45). The global demand for clean steel has increased in the last years due to the demand for better performance. There is need to develop steel with fewer inclusions to improve performance. Steel inclusions impede performance as they may act as sources of crack growth and propagation. Some inclusions affect steel properties such as fatigue, ductility and weldability. According to Riyahimalayeri et al. oxide inclusions reduce the rolling contact fatigue life of steel products even when the total oxygen content is below the 10 ppm (Riyahimalayeri, et al., 2013). Inclusions like sulphur reduce steel toughness which hinders performance. It is imperative to develop methods that are aimed at reducing steel inclusions for better performance. Improved steel cleanness

The Healing Rituals Of Navajo Tribes Introduction The healing rituals in the Navajo tribes included the spiritual healing rituals, which are a type of medicine or cure, which is believed to be being assisted by the spirits (Vogel 338). The hand tremblers played significance roles in diagnosing sick people through a sequence of activities and variations in their services. They used signs and reaction over a series of response when diagnosing their patients. The place this ritual ceremony being performed was called the sweat lodge; it was made of branches from certain tree species according to different religions of this society. It also required the blankets or any other covering material to cover the patient and holds the heat. Before the ceremony, the sick person or anybody who was close and caring for this sick person (Heart, et al. 121) fast took a tobacco plant to the medicine man. This tobacco plant had a meaning in that it was a tool that was believed to represent the ill person with its spirits. Also, it takes to be away a sick person asks the medicine man to act in the spirit world and serve them. After offering this plant to the medicine man, the sick then describes the problem; he will then give out the requirements and places where the ceremony will be held and how it should look like. If there were other sick people around the place the service have been set, they were also allowed to attend and describe their problems
  • 55. Comparison Between Optical Telescope Systems And Modern... Background knowledge: The topic of this investigation is to compare and contrast three different optical telescope systems that are used in modern day times. The three main telescope systems that will be focused on in this report will be reflecting, refracting and cassegrain which is a combination of both and how different types of error such as aberration effect the telescopes ability to capture an image and the quality of the image it produces. Reflecting telescopes use mirrors to reflect incoming light rays onto a secondary mirror which magnifies it through an eye piece to form an image. (BBC, 2015) When light rays come in contact with the mirror they are called the incident ray and then when the ray reflects back off the mirror it is then called the reflected ray. As the light rays hit and leave the mirror at particular angles these are titled angle of incidence and angle of reflection which can be seen in the figure 2 below. By the first law of reflection it is assumed that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence. This would only be true for totally reflective flat surfaces. When light rays come into contact with convex and concave mirrors parallel to the normal they are reflected onto a focal point . To find the focal point of a mirror, the mirror formula can be used. 1/f=1/u+1/v Where f is the focal length, u is the objects actual distance away from the mirror and v is the distance the image is formed from the mirror. To find the

I wasn t concerned with what is about because most people don t look back on history and just pass with a great grade and don t rely on the things people have done in their past lives. First off, the one that pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to usher in the birth of the world s only truly free nation, Liberty s Progeny incrementally ceded their birthright to the government conceived and designed to serve a free people, and am not its servant, giving the people a free right. this generation is awakening to the terrible mistake that we, and our ancestors allowed to happen by mistake. Then a statement, somewhat in detail, of a course to be pursued, seemed fitting and proper. Now, at the expiration of four years, during which public declarations have been constantly called forth on every point and phase of the great contest which still absorbs the attention, and engrosses the energies of the nation, little that is new could be presented. The progress of our arms, upon which all else chiefly depends, is as well known to the public as to myself; and it is, I trust, reasonably satisfactory and encouraging to all. With high hope for the future, no prediction in regard Union was near an

When Harpo (her Misters son) asked Celie what should I do about Sophia Celie responded with beat her . This displayed that Celie thinks her identity is to answer to her Mister and if she doesn t she will be beat; she doesn t really know her true self and capabilities. Although Celie doesn t really understand her identity she still has one. In contrast, in The Handmaids Tale most of the characters aren t even given an identity, they are nameless. No character is represented by their own names, more part of groups such as Handmaid, Wife or Martha. This shows that in this novel the body of women and the functions are more important than their minds and identity. Most women were often described by their features, their eyes and hands , this is to show the audience the lack of identity they hold and how their psychical features are deemed more important than their mental ability. When one Ofglen is replaced with another the Handmaid quotes this woman has been my partner for two weeks. I don t know what happened to the one before . This then shows how disconnected the women are and how the use of the word partner is used to hide the identity of the person. This also illustrates that the personality of the women is not essential for the job at hand, as they are just easily replaced with someone else. The Handmaids Tale and The Color Purple analyse the ways women are destined for one identity, the identity to serve men and continue to

Clinching the nomination for his second run, Bush began to consider his choice for vice president. After a while, he chose Dan Quayle, the junior senator from Indiana. Bush was pulled towards Quayle because of his youth and conservative achievements. He was more conservative than Bush, and some people thought that he would be great for the conservative base of the party as well as to women voters. However, Quayle became a questionable choice and a doubtful running mate because many saw him as being too young and inexperienced to be a vice
