The Importance Of Using Mixed Methods Used For Data...
This section outlines the methodology approach, which covered the research and the
techniques used in gathering the information as well as the limitations of the research
methods employed. This study identifies the importance of using mixed methods
(qualitative and quantitative methods) as the research strategies. After the
introductory section, the second section indicate the methods used for data collection,
following with the sampling for data collection and how contestants were enlisted.
The fourth section includes the interviewer experience following with the last section
of ethical approval in conducting a research.
3.1.2 Statement of research aim
The aim of this research as discussed previously in chapter one is to investigate the
use of recycled concrete aggregates in the building construction projects and relate it
to the structural performance requirements, which will give a better understanding on
the concrete made by using recycled concrete aggregates. 3.1.3 Research Methods
Employed
This chapter will start by reviewing various approaches to data collection and justify
the difference between quantitative and qualitative research, then finally this chapter
will explain about the selected method for this research and reasons why.
Deciding on which type of research strategy to follow according to Naom (1998),
depends on the purpose of the study and the type and availability of the information
which is required. However, Saunders et al. (2007) indicated that
Moral Code And The Rise Of Civilizations
Civilizations began as a small, scattered, simple, and unremarkable groups. But they
rise to be large, unified, complex, and legendary societies. The indispensable elements
crucial to any civilization rise comes from the following factors; moral code, trade,
and accountability in leadership. The moral code must be collective and opposed
upon the entire community of all ranks. In addition, moral code must be built around
tolerance and justice for the people as a whole. Trade is a gateway to money,
economic incline, technology, and medicine. Trade requires exchange, exportation of
surplus, importation of goods, and additionally connections with neighboring nations.
Furthermore, leadership has to have a positive influence upon its subjects. Leaders
must be charismatic, visionary, and potent to be influential. Accountability in
leadership, moral code, and trade are prominent factors which contribute to the rise of
civilizations.
Superior leadership primarily plays a role in the rise of civilizations. The Mongol
empire thrived and prospered due to Genghis Khan, a strategic commander in war.
Though the Mongol Empire existed before, but Genghis Khan regenerated the empire
to become the largest and most complex. His reputation was seen as fearful,
courageous, and powerful which was evident in the triumph of his battles. Examples
of his military tactics include spy networks and anticipated attacks. The spy networks
consist of Genghis s generals who would spend months examining and

Endangered Species Of The Species
Endangered Species
More than 10 million species are yet to be discovered in the world, many of which
are found in the deepest parts of the ocean, some, too small to see without a
microscope. Some of these species are endangered due to the rate at which their
habitats are being destroyed, many of the discovered species that are not endangered
are to be endangered soon due to the previously stated reason. (Endangered Species
International) Species in the world are being endangered in more than one way
including: habitat destruction, moving a species into a new habitat, and abusing
the use of the species. The species of the world are a great part of everyday life;
they give humans the basic needs to survive and also provide other species with
their needs to survive.( Endangered Species ) Species are endangered in many ways
and there are many organizations working to make the world safe from extinction.
Some people are confused about what an endangered animal is. As said by
Environment Advisor, endangered species are those considered to be at risk of
extinction, meaning that there are so few left of their kind that they could disappear
from the planet altogether. ( Endangered Species ) There are many endangered
species across the world that need the attention of people that are willing to help them
from going extinct. Some people, however, think that saving the endangered species
is a waste of time. These people choose to believe in natural selection. Natural

The Production Possibilities Frontier
1. A reduction in trade barriers has two effects on the economy. The production
possibilities frontier will move outward, and the economy will move closer to the
production possibilities frontier. Both outcomes are related. Freer trade creates more
markets for the country for its goods and services. This allows companies to produce
more, but it does not directly change the production capacity of the nation. Thus, the
economy moves closer to the production possibilities frontier (Rittenberg Tregarthen,
2009). The reason that the production possibilities frontier also moves owes to the
theory of comparative advantage. Freer trade allows the country to focus production
on those goods and services in which it has comparative advantage. Thus, the
economy s production becomes more efficient. Given that the factor resources
(people, capital) have not changed, an increase in efficiency will push the production
possibilities frontier outward. This is because the total capacity is going to be
higher. Note that there is a difference between producing the same things more
efficiently, and producing goods that are more efficient. The total capacity of the
economy is changed when the mix of product and services is changed, marking a
shift in the curve to go along with moving production closer to the curve. In addition,
trade encourages technological transfer. Firms in each country learn from one
another, and the transfer of knowledge and technology is one way that this occurs.
Italian Unification Italy 1930 s
Italians have been an intragyral part of American history since the founding of the
country and its exploration of the New World. Italian immigration surged from the
1870 s to the 1930 s due to few economic opportunities and political suppression in
Italy. Italy officially became a country in 1861 but before unification Italyconsisted of
small city states that were governed by small clans. Nationalization created a
disproportion of wealth from the industrialized north to the rural overcrowded
agricultural areas in the south. Over taxation by the Italian government made it hard
for rural southern Italians to own land or get ahead. Since the Civil war in the United
Statesleft a need for cheap labor, this was a perfect opportunity to many southern
Walking Into Correctional Facilities
Walking into the correctional facility felt as if I was walking through a college
campus tour. They had dorms, they had a gym, they had a library, they had a
dining hall, they had special rooms for special people. I can assure you this is not
the college I would want to go to. The students here, also known as inmates, looked
demoralized. While we were there, the prisonwas in a state of overflow. They had to
many inmates that they needed to pack them like sardines in the meeting area of the
dorms with bunk beds. The living conditions seemed inhumane. The campus was
chained in by barbed wire and any escape would put up major signs of danger.
Walkingthrough the courtyard I felt a feeling of being trapped, and I was not even
the one in chains. I never realized how terrifying prison was until this experience. The
effects of isolation were clearly visible through the inmates.... Show more content on

Their rank, their security level, and their position in society all based off of a
mistake. Rank in class ranged from one to five. Rank determines the security level
needed for each person. Much like golf, the lower the rank you had the better. The
prison generally had a rank around 3. Stories of their records brought an eerie
feeling with every pass by. The faces on the men looked lifeless. The prison itself
looked lifeless. Walking through the halls of the reception room made me feel
nauseas. Stepping into the strip and search room made me cringe. The search
seemed so inhumane, but it is necessary for the safety of the staff and fellow
inmates. Some of the weapons recovered by the staff through the search were
absolutely sickening. The uniforms they wore exemplified their status in society. The
prison itself gave off a feeling of
Emergency Custody Through C P Of Ryan
On June 20, 2014, the Department obtained emergency custody through C P of
Ryan due to neglect by mother Heather Martin. Mother was arrested by Burlington
Police on 6/16/14 for larceny; shoplifting and three counts of receiving stolen
property. Heather was taken to at MCI Framingham. The family was placed in a
hotel through Department of Transitional Assistance. It was against the hotel policy
for children to be left in the hotel unsupervised, and Ryan and Bria were staying
alone in the room for five days. This was deemed concerning for the two children to
not have an appropriate caregiver. When the Department was made aware of the
situation father Brian Scopa s whereabouts were unknown to the Department. Family
members were contacted that could possibly take the children in. However, uncle
Stephen Martin, aunt Cindy Fiore and Grandmother Carroll Clinton were unable to
do so for various reasons. Given that there were no family members to take Ryan and
Bria in, the Department placed them in a temporary Hotline foster careplacement
from the 6/20/14 to 6/23/14 until a more suitable living arrangement was made
available. On 6/23/14 Ryan and his sister were placed in a kinship home of a family
friend.

Global Drug Policy
The global policy on drugs has one main concern, as maintained in the first clause
of the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs: promoting the health and
welfare of mankind (United Nations, 1961). The convention and global drug policy
actors have asserted through the years that drugs pose a threat to this concern, and
so an integrated effort to reduce supply, demand and trafficking of said narcotics is
the desired course of action (High Level segment Commission on Narcotic Drugs,
2009). It seems that this course of action became an end of itself instead of a mean to
an end of health and welfare, as mounting evidence shows that the actions taken to
achieve this have not only been ineffective in reducing supply, demand and
trafficking; they have also created severe violations of human rights, alongside
criminalization, a hazard to public health, and drugcartels which pose a very real
threat to peace and security.
Member states have not been oblivious to the fact that the measures taken have been
counterproductive, and an increasing number of states are dissatisfied with the
results of this policy (Doward, 2013). Some have addressed this by decriminalizing
possession and use of drugs and introducing harm reduction programs, considering
the issue of demand not a criminal issue but a public health one. The evidence in
favor of such programs was acknowledged by international bodies such as WHO and
UNODC, emphasizing that reducing demand should be done through means of

Animalism in Mcteague
McTeague, or Animalism Unpublished The last decade of the twentieth century in
America saw a rise in programs for human s self betterment. A popular form of
betterment is that of the inner animal. Interest in Native American animal mysticism,
vision quests, and totem animals have increased dramatically in the past few years.
No forms of media have been spared; Calvin Klein s supermodels come on during
sitcom commercials to tell viewers they need to be a beast, or to get in touch with
their animal within. In the last decade of the nineteenth century, however, animalism
was viewed not as a method of self improvement but as the reprehensible side of
humanity that lingered beneath the surface, waiting for an opportune time to come...

She experiences sexual arousal from McTeague s domination, and is hooked from the
first time. Her love is a deadly addiction; the drug eats away at her until she dies.
She stays with McTeague through the beatings, the chewings, and the verbal
abuse, always coming back for more because she likes it. Only when McTeague
irrevocably mutilates her does she leave him. She is proud of her bruises, happily
trading stories with Maria Macapa like teenage schoolgirls comparing their make
out sessions. Trina s sexual beast is never satisfied, always craving more and more
abuse; abuse that McTeague is more than willing to give her. Trina s other dark side
involves her extramarital affair with her fortune. The sheer luck of the lottery
winning changed the girl forever. The cash was never to be spent, only saved; a
noble, if not intelligent, plan. However, Trina s simple animal mindcan not grasp
even this simple concept. She begins pilfering whatever money there is around the
house, keeping it in a sack in a box. Trina hoards everything, denying both her
husband and her mother necessary living money. She even sacrifices her own health,
buying three day old meat instead of fresh cuts. When she is out on her own, the
money becomes a surrogate drug; she no longer has access to the arousing abuse of
McTeague, but she begins sleeping with the
Charles Duhigg The Power Of Habit Summary
Habits have always been part of every human s lives and they the will always
influence and control what people do. Charles Duhigg does an excellent job of
explaining this in his book, The Power Of Habit. However, Charles Duhigg s intent
for writing this book isn t to just explain what habits are and how they work, he also
explains how to be aware of them, how to work with them and how to change them.
Charles Duhigg s purpose for writing The Power Of Habit, is to not just inform the
reader about what habits are and how they form and work, but to also persuade the
reader to notice their habits and to change their old and bad habits to form new,
positive habits in order to gain control and succeed in their life. He accomplishes this
purpose... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, instead of the author directly stating this in his book, he had to put it in an
allegory. The author brings up a story by David Foster Wallace about some fish
swimming in water. It goes, There are these two young fish swimming along and
they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and
says, Morning, boys, How s the water? The young fish swim on for a bit before one
finally asks the other what water is. (274) Now an allegory is typically used to
hide or hold a hidden, deeper meaning, and that s exactly what s going on here with
the fish story that the author includes. You see, people will go through their lives not
noticing the habits that they use and go through with in their life. The author uses
this fish tale to show how many people will go swimming through a world that s
filled with habits and none of them even realise it. The author wants people to notice
their habits in their life, because once you notice and realize that you have a habit,
you will then be able to change them and form new and better habits over

Although both species are cold blooded, they are very different in appearance and
physical makeup. Reptiles are covered in distinctive scales, and some may even
have a rough texture. Amphibians, on the other hand, typically have smooth moist
skin. Reptiles also have more diverse body types than amphibians. They may or
may not have limbs, and can range in size from very small to substantially larger
and heavier than humans. Most adult amphibians have four limbs, and while their
size varies, very few grow larger than a man s arm. The role of water is also an
important distinguishing characteristic. Though many reptiles live in the vicinity of
water, this is not essential for them to stay alive and some lizards and snakes are
ideally suited to dry areas. By contrast, many amphibians must remain moist in order
to breathe, although they do have lungs, they also take in oxygen through their skin.
This thin skin means that they lost moisture easily as well, and some will even die if
their skin dries completely. Life cycles are different in that when reptileeggs hatch,
the young look like miniature adults. An amphibian initially emerges from an egg in
the form of an aquatic larva, like a tadpole that breathes through gills until they
mature and develop lungs so they may survive without being completely submerged.

Repression of Women in Euripides The Bacchae Essay
Repression of Women in Euripides The Bacchae
Many different interpretations can be derived from themes in Euripides s The
Bacchae, most of which assume that, in order to punish the women of Thebes for
their impudence, the god Dionysus drove them mad. However, there is evidence to
believe that another factor played into this confrontation. Because of the trend of
male dominance in Greek society, women suffered in oppression and bore a social
stigma which led to their own vulnerability in becoming Dionysus s target. In
essence, the Thebian women practically fostered Dionysian insanity through their
longing to rebel against social norms. Their debilitating conditions as women
prompted them to search for a way to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, further proof of women s inferiority is found in The Bacchae when King
Pentheus considers it shameful to disguise himself in women s clothing. Do I have to
be demoted to a woman?...A woman s costume? No, I won t; I can t (Bacchae 50 51).
Pentheus s attitude in this situation attests to the negativity women in Greece were
faced with daily.
Under these acute circumstances, it is quite logical to infer that Thebian women
were tremendously dissatisfied with their position in the community. Those confined
or isolated undoubtedly yearned for an escape and found the stigma they bore too
much to endure without entertaining a hope for freedom. Perhaps this is why women
were considered more prone to madness, emotional outbursts, and general lack of
control over themselves in Greek society (Source 10). Their hope to emerge from the
the shackles of sexism made the women vulnerable to these manifestations. Dionysus,
angry at the women for their demeaning gossip that challenged his own existence as
a god, took advantage of their vulnerability, seeing it as an opportunity to teach them
a lesson that mortals must express due respect for the immortal. I ve stung them with
madness...The whole female seed of Thebes, I ve driven frenzied out of house and
home (Bacchae 4). The fact that he appeared in human form as andrognyous (having

Francisco Pizarro Essay
Who is Francisco Pizarro
Conquistador is a term that defines the soldiers and explorers of the New World.
There were many conquistadors before the discovery of the New World. However,
the most important and unforgettable conquistador was born sometime in the 1470s.
Francisco Pizarro Gonzalez, was the Spanish conquistador who was the leader of the
expedition of the Inca Empire. And behind this expedition, there is a long story that
defines a man and events that prove facts. So, who is Francisco Pizarro? According to
the facts, Francisco Pizarro was born in Trujillo, Spain. His date of birth is
unknown, but some say that it is some time in the 1470s, perhaps 1474. He was
the illegitimate son of infantry Colonel Gonzalo Pizarro, who was serving in
Navarre and the Italian campaigns and his mother was Francisca Gonzalez, who
was a poor woman and she married late and had a son who is Francisco Martin de

and livestock. Established almost 100 years ago, ANSI has provided standards for
many products including lamps, cameras and computers. The International
Organization for Standards (ISO) is a similar body that has an international focus in
providing standards for many different sectors including technology, food safety,
agriculture and healthcare. Similar in nature to ANSI, ISO was originated in the U.K.
after World War II. All three associations are committed to in making advancements
in products and services and avoid waste and ensure safety by implementing standards
in business industries to create stability and commonality. The three bodies have

Janie pulled back a long time because he did not represent sun up and pollen and

The characters involved in this are Janie and Joe Starks. Janie believes that sun up
and pollen and blooming trees are familiar and what she knows about love as well as
her ideal love. They also represent sexuality, and Joe Starks represents change and
possibly love, but Janie doesn t want to give him her love too fast. This quote is a

What s being represented here is Janie s version of love that is the pear tree and sun,
and that s being compared to the love that she could find in Joe Starks, where he

This provides a bigger effect later in the chapters, when Jody dies so Janie is then

that she IS the heavens. This represents a new beginning. Nature is represented in this
because it talks about man attempting to climb to painless heights, and in this case the

Joni describes her views on life from before her accident. She had always thought
what most girls and women thought about their lives: They had to have the ideal

that there are so many other things like friendships, relationships, and love that matter
much more than that ideal look . Instead of focusing on what she wanted herself to
look like, Joni devoted her life to her faith, her marriage, and to her artwork ( Joni s

hope during the darkest times. Likewise, she didn t give up on her faith and just

several occasions, she went to the Word of God for the answer to her questions

1.Discuss the terms non invasive and minimally invasive in relation to medical
techniques.
Non invasive medical techniques can be defined as surgical procedures that do not
require the penetration or damage of the skin tissue. Examples of non invasive
medical techniques are imaging techniques such as x rays and ultrasound.
Minimally invasive medical techniques can be defined as surgical procedures that
require the smallest incision into the skin. Examples of minimally invasive medical
techniques include keyhole surgery and laser eye surgery.
2.Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of non invasive and minimally invasive
medical techniques.
Non invasive medical techniques have proven to be advantageous. Imaging
techniques are advantageous because they are useful in diagnosing and conditions
and diseases in the body, even before symptoms have appeared. For example, x rays
can detect broken bones, kidney stones and tooth decay. Thermography can detect
breast cancer 8 years before symptoms have started appearing. Non invasive medical
techniques also take considerable less time to perform on patients than invasive
medical techniques. Shorter time in hospital means reduced health care costs which
are another advantage of non invasive medical techniques.
On the other hand, non invasive medical techniques have a few disadvantages. Non
invasive medical techniques involve imaging techniques which often requires the
patient being exposed
Personal Goals For Advancing Knowledge
When an individual reaches the point where they believe they have found all the
answers, they have stunted the ability to grow personally and professionally. There
never ceases to be opportunity for reflection, constructive feedback, and areas of
improvement in an individual s life, especially when it comes to professional
development. An important piece to this idea is knowing when and how to
identify these needed skills, understanding how their development will align with
accepted professional standards, and developing an action plan to attain identified
skills. Personal Goals for Advancing Knowledge Due to a lack of overall
experience as a group facilitator within the counseling field, one of the author s
primary personal goals is development a clearer understanding of the group
process. Corey, Corey, and Corey (2010) summarized group process as how things
are happening in the group, (p. 5). Having had experience as a client in several
drug and alcohol groups and group counseling sessions, the author has observed,
from a client s point of view, how fluid and ever changing groups are in a real world
setting.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In regard to observation, especially when it comes to facilitating style, the ability to
observe different counselors in the action would be highly beneficial. The author
believes that he has a more direct and active style in counseling in general; therefore,
it would be a good strategy to not only observe active group counselors, but also those
with varying, and potentially opposite, approaches. The ASGW concluded that the
training of group counselors should include the observation of counselors from
multiple stylistic backgrounds and approaches, including leadership methods and

The Proposed British Bill Of Rights (ECHR)
Introduction
The Proposed British Bill of Rights is a proposal from the Conservative Government
that was included in their 2015 election manifesto. The main purpose of the proposal
was to aim to replace the Human Rights Act 1998 with a new piece of primary
legislation.
After winning the majority of the 2015 general elections, Conservative party leader,
now Prime Minister David Cameron, reintroduced the British Bill of Rights. He
initially proposed these plans in the 2010 general elections, but as the Liberal
Democrats did not agree to it, and since they had just formed a coalition, David
Cameron did not follow through with the plans. The proposed plans have created
tensions between the political right and the ECtHR (European Court of Human ...

In British law, you cannot set aside the merchant shipping act and the British court
doesn t have the power to issue an injunction against the crown. The ECJ s decision
was to set aside any law against the crown. The house of lords had thus decided that
they have accepted that the European Community law is supreme. Thus, this limits
the parliament sovereignty. On that note, technically, the latter merchant shipping act
should take precedence, however it didn t, suggesting that the earlier parliament binds
the current parliament. This, therefore challenges the doctrine of Parliamentary
sovereignty.
Lord Bridge had stated, Fishing vessels previously registered as British under the
Act of 1894 require to be re registered under the Act of 1988, subject to a
transitional period prescribed by the Regulations of 1988 which permitted their

matter is that, by passing the 1988 act, Parliament has thus been bind by it s

aforementioned act. It was one of Dicey s theories that states that Parliament cannot

Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism
In ancient China, many different rulers tried to unify and rule the country using a
variety of methods Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism to name a few. Each
philosophy had its own set of rules of how people should act both in public and
privately. The overall goal of each philosophy was to set a standard of acceptable
living that would ensure harmony and success for the society. However, each was
different and thus had different results. The best way for the people of Chinato
succeed in a harmonious, respectable society occurred when both Confucianismand
Legalism were combined.
Confucianism resulted from a Chinese philosopher named Kongfuzi (551 479

If there is dissent and it is not dealt with using corrective measures, then the
government, and thereby society, will fall apart. One such example of this can be
found in the Han Feizi document. It says, The law alone leads to political order. If
laws are adjusted to the time, there is good government. If government fits the age,
there will be great accomplishment. Therefore, when the people are naГЇve, if you
regulate them with fame, there will be good government; when everybody in the
world is intelligent, if you discipline them with penalties, they will obey. While
time is moving on, if laws do not shift accordingly, there will be misrule; while
abilities are divers, if prohibitions are not changed, the state will be
dismembered...Indeed, if the state is orderly, the people are safe; if affairs are
confused, the country falls into peril...Yet everybody s likes and dislikes should be
regulated by the superior.
It is no surprise that the philosophy of legalism did not last long. Once the emperor
died, people began to dissent and voice their opinions of being treated in such a
manner. The next emperor, Emperor Gaozu of the Early Han Dynasty, determined
that by combining Confucianism and Legalism would ensure a more accepted and
obeyed political system. By allowing the people to follow certain rules that
prescribed their status obligations while altering the laws created by Legalism, the
society ran more smoothly for

In recent years, airlines build a closer relationship, especially European airlines and
Chinese airlines. Europe is the headstream of airplane, but compared to North
America, European aviation is a little bit weak on the ridership. In late 1990s and
early 2000s, Europe had more interactions with American aviation. In recent years,
Europe set China as a new partner. European aviation is trying to expand its
international market through increasing new cooperation.
In recent years, the relationship between Chinese and European Aviation is getting
closer. The strongest evidence is that Chinese government and European Union have
signed a 5 year work agreement for reducing the economic burden in aviation

Color Symbolism in The Great Gatsby
Symbolism is arguable one of the most important literary devices in all of literature.
Not only is it used to help explain key plot points in a story, but it is also used to
highlight certain aspects in a story you might not have noticed originally. In the novel
The Great Gatsby, the author F. Scott Fitzgerald uses symbolism through color to
express mood, different characters, and a variety of themes though the story. Colors
like white, yellow, and blue each have their own meanings to be explored by not
only the readers of the paper, but the readers of the book.
The color white traditionally is a symbol of purity in most cultures around the
world. Women dress in white during a wedding ceremony because of this color
symbolism. However in The Great Gatsby the symbol white appears to have a
similar meaning, but the color s true implications are not what it seems. In the
article Color Symbolism in The Great Gatsby , the author Daniel J. Schneider says
The white Daisy embodies the vision which Gatsby (who, like Lord Jim, usually
wears white suits) seek to embrace but which Nick, who discovers the corrup
admixture of dream and reality... (Schnider .p146) Characters in The Great Gatsby
like Daisy, are synonymous with the color white and are implicated to be pure and
incorruptible. The point Schneider makes is that Daisy is not as innocent as she
seems. The color white truly
Summary Of Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse-Five
Kurt Vonnegut takes a different approach to writing a captivating war story that
reaches the readers. Slaughterhouse Five is a strange approach on picturing the
horrors of the Dresden bombing, Vonnegut reaches his message across by his odd,
unconventional writing style throughout the book. In many ways Vonnegut openly
breaks the conventional rules of storytelling by using approaches that are unsuspected
and make the reader think. Vonnegut as a writer wanted to change the reader s point
of view, through this highly acclaimed novelhis weird plot connects to the devastating
events that he cannot seem to overpass.

Vonnegut asserts himself in minor events, and writes after that. That was I, that was
me . He appears in the events when Billy Pilgrim is in the bathroom at a camp,
another when they first arrive at Dresden and when he drunk calls Billy at his house.
These instances where he refers to himself in the novel bring a sense of reality to this
science fiction novel. Another notable thing Vonnegut does is create a surrogate for
himself in the novel, Kilgore Trout. This character shares a lot of relation to the
author, such as both being science fiction authors and their writing of aliens. These
two things that Vonnegut does is not usual in the sense of writing a proper science
fiction novel, but the way he executes it brings attention to the reader to create a
more diverse story.
Slaughterhouse Five is one of the greatest anti war book by giving a different
approach in getting the point across without noticeable references of an anti war
novel. This novel will always be remembered by the content and the diverse writing
method Vonnegut uses. Vonnegut s unconventional writing makes the novel stand
out and become more memorable than any other war
Characteristics Of Satan In Paradise Lost
In Paradise Lost the character of Satan is created by Milton. There are many
characters of Satan in literature, and over the creation of each Satan, he as a
character has evolved. It is thought by John Carey that Milton observed the former
characters of Satan and used them as inspiration to influence his new character as
Satan. Milton created Satan as the author of evil and created him by himself. Satan is
the main character throughout Paradise Lostthat starts the story and puts events into
motion. As Milton created his Satan he focused on strong characteristics of epic
heroes and rhetoric. In Paradise Lost , Milton uses select qualities of an epic hero to
be displayed as an epic hero himself.
To become an epic hero the character must travel over vast settings to meet the
criteria to be an epic hero. Milton created the story in a religious sense which can be
seen in the setting too. The setting consists of Earth, Hell, Heaven, and the space
between them. Heaven and Hell are complete polar opposites which is in relation
to the distance between them. The space between Heaven and Hell is empty space
and Earth. Earth represents the middle ground between perfect and imperfect. Satan
starts his journey in Hell and must travel through Hell to the far gates out of Hell.
And thrice threefold the gates... Yet unconsumed ( II.645 648). His journey began
from hell and then once he passed out of the troubling gates of Hell he ended up in
a place he had never been before. This was
Snapping Hip Syndrome Research Paper
Snapping Hip Exercises
Snapping hip syndrome, also known as dancer s hip, is a medical condition where
you feel a snapping sensation, or hear a snapping sound, in the hip when you are
running, walking, or swinging your leg around. For many people, the problem is little
more than a nuisance, and the only symptoms are the snapping sensation, and sound
itself. However, for athletes or dancers, snapping hip exercises may help alleviate the
weakness, or pain that sometimes interfere with their performance.
Why does It Happen?
In many cases, the snapping symptom is caused by the movement of a tendon or
muscle over the bony surface in the hip, and snapping hip syndrome is often the result
of tightness in the muscles and tendons surrounding the hip.
Liberia Essay
Liberia owes its establishment to the American Colonization Society; founded in
1816 to resettle freed American slaves in Africa. An attempt at colonization in Sierra
Leone had failed in 1815. Six years later native rulers granted a tract of land on Cape
Mesurado, at the mouth of the Saint Paul River, to U.S. representatives, and the first
Americo Liberians, led by Jehudi Ashmun, began the settlement. In 1824 an
American agent for the society, Ralph Randolph Gurley, named the new colony
Liberiaand the Cape Mesurado settlement Monrovia. Other separate settlements were
established along the coast during the next 20 years. Soon, however, conflicts arose
between the settlers and the society in the United States. By the time Joseph Jenkins...

U.S. Liberian relations became closer after the United States entered World War II
In 1942 the republic agreed to allow U.S. troops to be based in the country despite
the fact that Liberia did not declare war on the Axis powers until 1944. In 1945
Liberia became one of the original member states of the United Nations. Following
his election in May 1943, President William V. S. Tubman pursued a policy of
national unification and economic development through foreign investment. The
latter policy led to the exploitation in the 1950s of iron ore deposits in the Bomi
Hills, located north of Monrovia. In the presidential election of May 1951, women
and indigenous property owners voted for the first time, but the few thousand
Americo Liberians living in the coastal region still retained control of the
government. The incumbent Tubman, candidate of the dominant True Whig Party,
was reelected without opposition. The government had suppressed the Reformation
and United People s parties. Their leaders, supported mainly by residents of the
hinterland, were arrested or exiled following the election. President Tubman was
returned to office in the 1955 election, but he narrowly escaped assassination during
his victory celebration Thirty people were indicted for treason; two former cabinet
ministers and five others were convicted.

Security Cameras Dbq
Have you ever thought of the idea that someone is watching over you at school
without knowing it? With today s modern technology, there are schools that use
cameras for various reasons. Otherwise known as Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).
It is a TV System in which signals are not publicly distributed but are monitored,
primarily for surveillanceand securitypurposes (Prompt). However, what you might
not be aware of is that you are not given as much privacyat school than at home.
Schools should have security cameras, because they are a useful entity to protect
civilians on campus, could serve as deterrents for those bad teachers, and create an
overall better learning environment for everyone.
Primarily, security cameras are only one of the many pieces of technology that
schools use as a security system to prevent intruders. As quoted in Source 2,
Tragedies such as the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012 have raised
alarms for increased school security ; cameras could have been a useful tool in this
situation. On the other hand, many opponents would support the cost issue.

While, some teachers worry that it s an invasion, others agree that cameras increase

Raymond Carver s Cathedral
A narrator in Cathedral by Raymond Carver is a closed minded man who suffers
from prejudice against blind people. He is detached from himself, as well as from
people around him. Among all themes demonstrated in this story, the most interesting
aspect was relationships. In particular, the author compares the deep connection
between two people and martial problems. Carver has made me to consider mane
aspects and values that a family consist of. The narrator is insecure about his wife s
relationship with Robert, and the deep connection between them is a completely
understandable part. He is isolated from his wife, and even her name is not
mentioned in the story. Without support of her husband this woman has developed a
strong bond with Robert.

Essay on Understanding Ourselves in the Age of the Internet
Understanding Ourselves in the Age of the Internet
In her book, Life on Screen: Identity in the Age of the Internet, author Sherry Turkle
explains the effect technology has on the way individuals view themselves, and how
this relates to the growth of postmodernist thinking. According to Turkle, the rapid
expansion of network technology, specifically the Internet, is responsible for
introducing millions of people to new spaces and ways of interactivity with one
another.
This revolutionary method for relating to others is swiftly changing how we view our
minds, our sexual interactions, the forms of our communities, and even our own
identities (Turkle 9). In the excerpts selected for our class reading, Turkle cites
Internet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In its most basic form, however, modernism can be most closely associated with the
traditional world view dominant since the Enlightenment, and is described in terms
of linearity, logicality, and hierarchical thought (Turkle 17). Modernist reality is
perceived as definitive and objective, defined by a firm set of rules and roles that
support a centralized narrative, or concept of truth. In this philosophy, the self is
characterized as a solid autonomous being, our most basic reality, making it simple to
identify and resist any departure from society s definition of normalcy (Turkle 261).
Within the last forty years, a poststructuralist response developed to the modernist
ideology and gained the official academic title, postmodernism. This philosophy
serves as a direct contrast to modernism, embracing the idea of a decentered, multi
faceted self that consists of fragmented but coherent parts. There is no definitive truth
to these interconnections, making reality and human identity fluid and capable of
transitioning between numerous nonlinear concepts (Turkle 17). In postmodern
reality, disjointed ideas receive meaning through their relationships to each other; the
presence of thought becoming just as significant as what is noticeably lacking. The
multiplicity of meaning and truth in the postmodern environment makes identity
opaque, allusive, and dense, but also presents the opportunity for remarkable diversity.
A Patient With Respiratory Acidosis Essay
a) In a patient with respiratory acidosis, the partial pressure of CO2 in the plasma
(PCO2) rises above normal levels of 40 mmHg (1). Airway resistance due to
asthma, respiratory depression due to drug use as well as chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease all cause hypoventilation, lowering partial pressure of plasma
oxygen (PO2) to below its normal value of approximately 100 mm Hg (1) and can
lead to respiratory acidosis. The equation below describes the equation between
CO2 and H2O with H+ and HCO3 . According to the law of mass action, all
reactions tend towards equilibrium, and any disturbance in the amount of any of the
products or reactants will shift the reaction in a direction which leads to re
establishment of equilibrium. If CO2 concentration rises, the new chemical
equilibrium will favour further production of both H+ and HCO3 through
disassociation of H2CO3. Each additional molecule of CO2 would lead to production
of one molecule of H+ and HCO3 .
〖CO〗_2+H_2 O→ H_2 CO^3→H^++HCO_3^ (1).
Production of H+ will cause plasma pH to fall below 7.4. Normally, increases in H+
concentrations are buffered mostly by haemoglobin, however buffers can only resist
small changes in pH. The HCO3 levels increase slightly, but are likely to still remain
within normal levels of 22 to 26 mEq/L. This is because equilibrium changes in
concentrations is slight compared to the large compensatory changes (1). Renal
mechanisms can assist in excreting H+ and reabsorbing HCO3 .
Essay about It s Time to End School Inequality
The right to an adequate education is a freedom every American child should have;
however, that is not the case. Standardized testing reveals that students living in an
economically stable neighborhood are more mentally developed than students living
in poverty stricken communities. The problem with the educational system is not
schools need to close and children need to be relocated to another one, it is inequality
within the educational system continues to widen due to the expansion of the

The teacher did not fail the student nor did the school did not fail the student. The

I was the only girl who the boys would socially accept into their circle. In fact, there
was a boy named Brandon in my class who would eat lunch with me every day.
Back then teachers made home visits still and they told my mom about it. They said
when Adiah s not there he doesn t know what to do or where to sit! It was the cutest
thing to them. While asking my mother questions and remembering as far back as I
could. One of my Pre K teachers walks by our setup at the Ponce City Farmers
Market. She recognized my mother and I from over 20 years ago, I am 22 today.
She said she remembers me in particular because I would always correct everyone
when it came to pronouncing my name. She understood me because her name is one
that has to be pronounced usually for people to get it.
Emotionally I was a very much attached to my mother and a serious homebody. I
liked to go places like my Grandma s and play with my cousins. But once they
went home, I wanted to be home too. It would annoy my Grandma; she would say
that I was spoiled and that I should be whipped. My mother would always laugh and
say I can t whip my child because she wants to come home! Home has always been

Making difficult decisions show up in life more often than...
Making difficult decisions show up in life more often than realized. These choices
can alter a person s life in good and bad ways. The Bicycle by Jillian Horton is a
story that focuses on a young talented pianist named Hannah. Throughout the story
Hannah deals with the strict teachings of her Tante Rose, which leads her to make
ironic decisions. Similarly, in the story Lather and Nothing Else by Hernando Tellez,
the barber undergoes a dilemma in which he must consider his moral values before
making his final decision. Both stories have a protagonist that face conflicts which
lead to difficult decision making, and in the end leads the characters to discover
themselves. In both stories the authors use the literary devices theme, irony... Show

Horton and Tellez both portray the theme of making difficult choices in their
stories. The protagonist s in each story consider all their options and think ahead
before making a life changing decision. In the stories The Bicycle and Lather and
Nothing Else both Horton and Tellez use symbolism to portray an overall theme of
making difficult choices. In The Bicycle Hannah has her life completely
controlled by her Tante Rose. She has no freedom because she is forbidden to
break the Sabbath in anyway, and due to Tante Rose s previous traumatic
experience with a bicycle, she is absolutely forbidden to ride one. In the end,
Hannah chooses to go against her aunts wishes and rides a bicycle. She expresses
that she wanted to prove she had some control over her own life (Horton 35). The
bicycle acts as a symbol of freedom; from Hannah breaking the promise she made to
her Tante Rose, to having control of her own life and becoming who she wanted to
be from the start. Likewise, in Lather and Nothing Else the barber untimely had a
choice of being a murderer or hero. The razor blade is one of the most important
symbols because it represents his choice of killing the captain or not. This was how
the barber would determine his future. He says, I was stropping my best blade .
(Tellez 346). My fate hangs on the edge of this razor blade . (Tellez 346). This was a
big moral dilemma for the barber, and at this point he was really choosing what kind
of person he wanted to

Berkshire Hathaway Investment
Mr. Buffet is now 80 and well beyond the age when most workers retire. This
reflects his long term approach towards investment such as Burlington Northern
Santa Fe Railroad. Rather than investing in insurance companies, which could
provide a large float to the company within the market, he selected a safer route for
buying and long term avenue. Analysts say Buffett is planting both feet in an
industry that is poised to grow as the economy gets back on solid ground (Buffet
buying Burling Northern Railroad, 2009). This was a strategic move for the
company that would reflect in long term profits. Buffett invest in businesses related
to the field of his interest, whether it is related to an insurance business or other
business. He intends to gain substantial and beneficial companies keeping in mind
the end goal to give advantages to shareholders. Mr. Buffett s age does not affect
Berkshire Hathaway s recent strategic moves, such as buying Burlington Northern
Santa Fe Railroad instead of another large insurance company, because he has always
adopted this approach while conducting a business. Mr. Buffett s age does not affect

The price of oil has declined from $115 to $70, which shows a major downfall in
the price of the oil (Why the Oil Prices is Falling, 2014). Buffet takes a lot of interest
in the US economy that shows his inclination towards risky ventures. He is interested
in the country s economy and wants to support the economy through the acquisition

The Break Up Analysis
Whether you eat a whole tub of chocolate ice cream while crying or you party like
a rock star all weekend while drinking, a break up is a break up. If you re the
person who eats a whole tub of chocolate ice cream, you probably accompanied it
with romantic movies. Although they are comforting for the time being, they
always leave you to wonder, why didn t my break up didn t have a happy ending like
the ones in the movies? In Peyton Reed s 2006 romantic comedy, The Break Up, it
portrays the realistic events and feelings of a failed relationship. In comparison to
other romantic comedies, this film seems to stand out because it teaches the audience
the lesson that not all break ups leads to make ups.
In The Break Up, the main purpose is to show the realistic events of a toxic
relationship between Brooke (Jennifer Aniston) and Gary (Vince Vaughn
). Brooke is a
very classy art dealer and Gary, in Brooke s eyes, is just a tour bus driver. The first
scene shows how the couple met a Chicago Cubs baseball game and Brooke was
actually on a date with another man. The scene ended with Gary asking her to go
out sometime and the following scene is a slide show of all of Brooke and Gary s
pictures together, portraying that even perfect relationships have their own issues.
The couple has a big argument right off the bat in the third scene, Brooke feels
neglected and unappreciated by Gary. On the other hand Gary, feels that Brooke is
controlling, a perfectionist, and he can never satisfied
Mayan Civilization Anthropology
Throughout the semester, we have delved deep into the many aspects of archeology.
Submerged in the world of archeology, we have seen it evolve to the point where it
could help us investigate a site even as complex as Copan. The ultimate question
leading to the sites complexity: why did Copan collapse? The considered categories,
the monuments, people, bones, botany and houses of the ancient Mayan Civilization,
will aid in the investigation turning questions into answers and theories into facts.
Using different types of archeological practices including bioarchaeology,
zooarchaeology, forensic archaeology, taphonomy as well as others, Copan itself will
illustrate a story that has long been locked away. Monuments have been used

The Maya used obsidian to create blades for cutting materials and in using extensive
dating techniques, it seems that they were used from A.D. 500 1200 and then A.D.

a procedure used to create these dates by measuring the build up of microscopic rind
left on the artifact. Researchers then use the average modern temperature and
moisture of the area the obsidian was found and project it back to ancient time. The
age of the artifact is then calculated based off of the thickness of the rind (Sabloff:
Informative Speech About Special Olympics
INTRODUCTION
I.Picture this, there was a boy at my high school named Adrian. Adrian loved
football and even more, he loved all the guys on the team. One year Adrian decided
he was going to join the team. He was thrilled to tell all of the guys, but the
feelings were not mutual. Instead the guys on the team made fun of Adrian and
threw fits. All Adrian wanted was to go to practices, ride the bus to games, and
just be apart of the team. The boys did not throw a fit because Adrian was bad at
football, they threw a fit because Adrian has a mental disability. Although Adrian did
not end up playing football, he eventually played a sport where he was welcomed
and appreciated. Adrian fell in love with his new team so much, he wore his track shirt

Who Is BrГЎshk s Response To Jessime
BrГЎshk never responded to Jessimes comment. Of course BrГЎshk hardly ever
conversed with the boy, conversations were often one sided. Communication was
scarce between the two elves, unless it involved BrГЎshk telling a story or Jessime
being insubordinate. Jessime felt his master comb his fingers through his hair, the
young elf accepted BrГЎshk comforting affection, letting his guard down only to be
yanked by the hair close to the taller elf s groin. Being so close to the older elf s
crotch caused Jessime to harden. The boy blushed as he caught his masters scent
and his own body reacted to. Jessime abruptly became conscious of the leather crop
that had been skimming over his back and glided downward as his master spoke,
eventually the boy felt
Religious Influences in Government Policy Essay
Religious influence in the adoption and development of law is contradictory to the
structure of the American government and way of life. My fellow Americans, these
are words you have heard many times before, Presidents have uttered them in
addressing the nation, they always have the same connotation every time they are
spoken, that all of us are Americans, notice please that the statement is not My fellow
Christians. That s because being an American does not automatically indicate being a
Christian, one of the reasons this is such a great country is that we have specific
rights guaranteed by our government, such as the right to free speech, the right to
bear arms, freedom of the press and as important as any....Freedom of religion.

My well intended (I say that in attempt to delude myself into believing that their
arguments presented are not in any self serving intent.) opponents would have you
believe that our country was intended to be a non secular entity and that if our
government was truly of the people, for the people, by the people that its laws would
be reflective of Christianity as the majority of the American citizenry proclaim a
Christian affiliation. This my friends is a falsehood, in fact our founding fathers were
more than aware of the implications for the future that this great experiment posed
and included safeguards in attempt to prevent the abusive relationship that tends to
develop when government policy is tempered with religion, a very wise and brave act
considering the fact that many of them were in fact people who attended church and
worshipped God. These measurements were so important to them that they
outweighed any feelings of contradiction with their personal beliefs. It is not
coincidental that nowhere in the constitution is religion mentioned except in
exclusionary terms.
There have been many arguments that lay claim to be proof that this nation was
founded with the intent of being governed by religious philosophy, from
misrepresented quotations about religious feelings from various founding fathers to
the misconception that our laws were based upon biblical law and not precedent from
previously

  • 3. Moral Code And The Rise Of Civilizations Civilizations began as a small, scattered, simple, and unremarkable groups. But they rise to be large, unified, complex, and legendary societies. The indispensable elements crucial to any civilization rise comes from the following factors; moral code, trade, and accountability in leadership. The moral code must be collective and opposed upon the entire community of all ranks. In addition, moral code must be built around tolerance and justice for the people as a whole. Furthermore, leadership has to have a positive influence upon its subjects. Leaders must be charismatic, visionary, and potent to be influential. Accountability in leadership, moral code, and trade are prominent factors which contribute to the rise of civilizations. Superior leadership primarily plays a role in the rise of civilizations. Though the Mongol Empire existed before, but Genghis Khan regenerated the empire to become the largest and most complex. His reputation was seen as fearful, courageous, and powerful which was evident in the triumph of his battles. Examples of his military tactics include spy networks and anticipated attacks. The spy networks consist of Genghis s generals who would spend months examining and
  • 4. Jackie Yalta Personal Statement Truth, Equality, and Justice are the essences that drive Jackie Yalta to spread confidence, compassion, and integrity in all aspects of her life. She moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia from Paterson, New Jersey in 2007 for the pursuit of a higher education. Jackie s hero is her special needs brother, Tom, who conquers each day with his kindness and smile. Thankful for her education, family, and community, the move encouraged Jackie to pursue ways to contribute to society in a positive direction. My goal in life is to be a good citizen of the United States and I believe this can be accomplished through education. Education is the fundamental key to a child s success. We mostly raised money by selling goods, but I was driven to be an example of giving back by providing a good attitude, lessons to inspire kindness, and implemented events. When I realized how much money my ideas made, I couldn t stop innovating new ways to promote our purpose. This drove me to do more which lead me to go speak on television and ask for donations during my chorus concert. As I thanked them, I reminded them how grateful we are to be a part of a community that s bonded together by love. When we reached our goal of $15,000, we used that money to buy a student glasses, send a child to the doctors, bought some clothes for someone in need, etc. Holiday Hope inspired me and taught me how one person could make a huge impact while bringing people
  • 5. Endangered Species Of The Species Endangered Species More than 10 million species are yet to be discovered in the world, many of which are found in the deepest parts of the ocean, some, too small to see without a microscope. Some of these species are endangered due to the rate at which their habitats are being destroyed, many of the discovered species that are not endangered are to be endangered soon due to the previously stated reason. (Endangered Species International) Species in the world are being endangered in more than one way including: habitat destruction, moving a species into a new habitat, and abusing the use of the species. The species of the world are a great part of everyday life; they give humans the basic needs to survive and also provide other species with their needs to survive.( Endangered Species ) Species are endangered in many ways and there are many organizations working to make the world safe from extinction. Some people are confused about what an endangered animal is. As said by Environment Advisor, endangered species are those considered to be at risk of extinction, meaning that there are so few left of their kind that they could disappear from the planet altogether. ( Endangered Species ) There are many endangered species across the world that need the attention of people that are willing to help them from going extinct. Some people, however, think that saving the endangered species is a waste of time. These people choose to believe in natural selection. Natural Selection
  • 6. The Production Possibilities Frontier 1. A reduction in trade barriers has two effects on the economy. The production possibilities frontier will move outward, and the economy will move closer to the production possibilities frontier. Both outcomes are related. Freer trade creates more markets for the country for its goods and services. This allows companies to produce more, but it does not directly change the production capacity of the nation. Thus, the economy moves closer to the production possibilities frontier (Rittenberg Tregarthen, 2009). The reason that the production possibilities frontier also moves owes to the theory of comparative advantage. Freer trade allows the country to focus production on those goods and services in which it has comparative advantage. Thus, the economy s production becomes more efficient. Given that the factor resources (people, capital) have not changed, an increase in efficiency will push the production possibilities frontier outward. This is because the total capacity is going to be higher. Note that there is a difference between producing the same things more efficiently, and producing goods that are more efficient. The total capacity of the economy is changed when the mix of product and services is changed, marking a shift in the curve to go along with moving production closer to the curve. In addition, trade encourages technological transfer. Firms in each country learn from one another, and the transfer of knowledge and technology is one way that this occurs.
  • 7. Italian Unification Italy 1930 s Italians have been an intragyral part of American history since the founding of the country and its exploration of the New World. Italian immigration surged from the 1870 s to the 1930 s due to few economic opportunities and political suppression in Italy. Italy officially became a country in 1861 but before unification Italyconsisted of small city states that were governed by small clans. Nationalization created a disproportion of wealth from the industrialized north to the rural overcrowded agricultural areas in the south. Over taxation by the Italian government made it hard for rural southern Italians to own land or get ahead. Since the Civil war in the United Statesleft a need for cheap labor, this was a perfect opportunity to many southern
  • 8. Walking Into Correctional Facilities Walking into the correctional facility felt as if I was walking through a college campus tour. They had dorms, they had a gym, they had a library, they had a dining hall, they had special rooms for special people. I can assure you this is not the college I would want to go to. The students here, also known as inmates, looked demoralized. While we were there, the prisonwas in a state of overflow. They had to many inmates that they needed to pack them like sardines in the meeting area of the dorms with bunk beds. The living conditions seemed inhumane. The campus was chained in by barbed wire and any escape would put up major signs of danger. Walkingthrough the courtyard I felt a feeling of being trapped, and I was not even the one in chains. I never realized how terrifying prison was until this experience. The effects of isolation were clearly visible through the inmates.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their rank, their security level, and their position in society all based off of a mistake. Rank in class ranged from one to five. Rank determines the security level needed for each person. Much like golf, the lower the rank you had the better. The prison generally had a rank around 3. Stories of their records brought an eerie feeling with every pass by. The faces on the men looked lifeless. The prison itself looked lifeless. Walking through the halls of the reception room made me feel nauseas. Stepping into the strip and search room made me cringe. The search seemed so inhumane, but it is necessary for the safety of the staff and fellow inmates. Some of the weapons recovered by the staff through the search were absolutely sickening. The uniforms they wore exemplified their status in society. The prison itself gave off a feeling of
  • 9. Emergency Custody Through C P Of Ryan On June 20, 2014, the Department obtained emergency custody through C P of Ryan due to neglect by mother Heather Martin. Mother was arrested by Burlington Police on 6/16/14 for larceny; shoplifting and three counts of receiving stolen property. Heather was taken to at MCI Framingham. The family was placed in a hotel through Department of Transitional Assistance. It was against the hotel policy for children to be left in the hotel unsupervised, and Ryan and Bria were staying alone in the room for five days. This was deemed concerning for the two children to not have an appropriate caregiver. When the Department was made aware of the situation father Brian Scopa s whereabouts were unknown to the Department. Family members were contacted that could possibly take the children in. However, uncle Stephen Martin, aunt Cindy Fiore and Grandmother Carroll Clinton were unable to do so for various reasons. Given that there were no family members to take Ryan and Bria in, the Department placed them in a temporary Hotline foster careplacement from the 6/20/14 to 6/23/14 until a more suitable living arrangement was made available. On 6/23/14 Ryan and his sister were placed in a kinship home of a family friend. • 10. Global Drug Policy The global policy on drugs has one main concern, as maintained in the first clause of the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs: promoting the health and welfare of mankind (United Nations, 1961). The convention and global drug policy actors have asserted through the years that drugs pose a threat to this concern, and so an integrated effort to reduce supply, demand and trafficking of said narcotics is the desired course of action (High Level segment Commission on Narcotic Drugs, 2009). It seems that this course of action became an end of itself instead of a mean to an end of health and welfare, as mounting evidence shows that the actions taken to achieve this have not only been ineffective in reducing supply, demand and trafficking; they have also created severe violations of human rights, alongside criminalization, a hazard to public health, and drugcartels which pose a very real threat to peace and security. Member states have not been oblivious to the fact that the measures taken have been counterproductive, and an increasing number of states are dissatisfied with the results of this policy (Doward, 2013). Some have addressed this by decriminalizing possession and use of drugs and introducing harm reduction programs, considering the issue of demand not a criminal issue but a public health one. The evidence in favor of such programs was acknowledged by international bodies such as WHO and UNODC, emphasizing that reducing demand should be done through means of

  • 12. Animalism in Mcteague McTeague, or Animalism Unpublished The last decade of the twentieth century in America saw a rise in programs for human s self betterment. A popular form of betterment is that of the inner animal. Interest in Native American animal mysticism, vision quests, and totem animals have increased dramatically in the past few years. No forms of media have been spared; Calvin Klein s supermodels come on during sitcom commercials to tell viewers they need to be a beast, or to get in touch with their animal within. In the last decade of the nineteenth century, however, animalism was viewed not as a method of self improvement but as the reprehensible side of humanity that lingered beneath the surface, waiting for an opportune time to come... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She experiences sexual arousal from McTeague s domination, and is hooked from the first time. Her love is a deadly addiction; the drug eats away at her until she dies. She stays with McTeague through the beatings, the chewings, and the verbal abuse, always coming back for more because she likes it. Only when McTeague irrevocably mutilates her does she leave him. She is proud of her bruises, happily trading stories with Maria Macapa like teenage schoolgirls comparing their make out sessions. Trina s sexual beast is never satisfied, always craving more and more abuse; abuse that McTeague is more than willing to give her. Trina s other dark side involves her extramarital affair with her fortune. The sheer luck of the lottery winning changed the girl forever. The cash was never to be spent, only saved; a noble, if not intelligent, plan. However, Trina s simple animal mindcan not grasp even this simple concept. She begins pilfering whatever money there is around the house, keeping it in a sack in a box. Trina hoards everything, denying both her husband and her mother necessary living money. She even sacrifices her own health, buying three day old meat instead of fresh cuts. When she is out on her own, the money becomes a surrogate drug; she no longer has access to the arousing abuse of McTeague, but she begins sleeping with the
  • 13. Charles Duhigg The Power Of Habit Summary Habits have always been part of every human s lives and they the will always influence and control what people do. Charles Duhigg does an excellent job of explaining this in his book, The Power Of Habit. However, Charles Duhigg s intent for writing this book isn t to just explain what habits are and how they work, he also explains how to be aware of them, how to work with them and how to change them. Charles Duhigg s purpose for writing The Power Of Habit, is to not just inform the reader about what habits are and how they form and work, but to also persuade the reader to notice their habits and to change their old and bad habits to form new, positive habits in order to gain control and succeed in their life. The author brings up a story by David Foster Wallace about some fish swimming in water. The young fish swim on for a bit before one finally asks the other what water is. Although both species are cold blooded, they are very different in appearance and physical makeup. Reptiles are covered in distinctive scales, and some may even have a rough texture. Amphibians, on the other hand, typically have smooth moist skin. Reptiles also have more diverse body types than amphibians. They may or may not have limbs, and can range in size from very small to substantially larger and heavier than humans. Most adult amphibians have four limbs, and while their size varies, very few grow larger than a man s arm. The role of water is also an important distinguishing characteristic. Though many reptiles live in the vicinity of water, this is not essential for them to stay alive and some lizards and snakes are ideally suited to dry areas. By contrast, many amphibians must remain moist in order to breathe, although they do have lungs, they also take in oxygen through their skin. This thin skin means that they lost moisture easily as well, and some will even die if their skin dries completely. Life cycles are different in that when reptileeggs hatch, the young look like miniature adults. An amphibian initially emerges from an egg in the form of an aquatic larva, like a tadpole that breathes through gills until they mature and develop lungs so they may survive without being completely submerged. 3. Repression of Women in Euripides The Bacchae Essay Repression of Women in Euripides The Bacchae Many different interpretations can be derived from themes in Euripides s The Bacchae, most of which assume that, in order to punish the women of Thebes for their impudence, the god Dionysus drove them mad. However, there is evidence to believe that another factor played into this confrontation. Because of the trend of male dominance in Greek society, women suffered in oppression and bore a social stigma which led to their own vulnerability in becoming Dionysus s target. In essence, the Thebian women practically fostered Dionysian insanity through their longing to rebel against social norms. In addition, further proof of women s inferiority is found in The Bacchae when King Pentheus considers it shameful to disguise himself in women s clothing. Do I have to be demoted to a woman?...A woman s costume? No, I won t; I can t (Bacchae 50 51). Pentheus s attitude in this situation attests to the negativity women in Greece were faced with daily. Under these acute circumstances, it is quite logical to infer that Thebian women were tremendously dissatisfied with their position in the community. Those confined or isolated undoubtedly yearned for an escape and found the stigma they bore too much to endure without entertaining a hope for freedom. Perhaps this is why women were considered more prone to madness, emotional outbursts, and general lack of control over themselves in Greek society (Source 10). Their hope to emerge from the the shackles of sexism made the women vulnerable to these manifestations. Dionysus, angry at the women for their demeaning gossip that challenged his own existence as a god, took advantage of their vulnerability, seeing it as an opportunity to teach them a lesson that mortals must express due respect for the immortal. I ve stung them with madness...The whole female seed of Thebes, I ve driven frenzied out of house and home (Bacchae 4). Not only is it used to help explain key plot points in a story, but it is also used to highlight certain aspects in a story you might not have noticed originally. In the novel The Great Gatsby, the author F. Scott Fitzgerald uses symbolism through color to express mood, different characters, and a variety of themes though the story. Colors like white, yellow, and blue each have their own meanings to be explored by not only the readers of the paper, but the readers of the book. The color white traditionally is a symbol of purity in most cultures around the world. Women dress in white during a wedding ceremony because of this color symbolism. However in The Great Gatsby the symbol white appears to have a similar meaning, but the color s true implications are not what it seems. Essay on Understanding Ourselves in the Age of the Internet Understanding Ourselves in the Age of the Internet In her book, Life on Screen: Identity in the Age of the Internet, author Sherry Turkle explains the effect technology has on the way individuals view themselves, and how this relates to the growth of postmodernist thinking. According to Turkle, the rapid expansion of network technology, specifically the Internet, is responsible for introducing millions of people to new spaces and ways of interactivity with one another. This revolutionary method for relating to others is swiftly changing how we view our minds, our sexual interactions, the forms of our communities, and even our own identities (Turkle 9). In the excerpts selected for our class reading, Turkle cites Internet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In its most basic form, however, modernism can be most closely associated with the traditional world view dominant since the Enlightenment, and is described in terms of linearity, logicality, and hierarchical thought (Turkle 17). Modernist reality is perceived as definitive and objective, defined by a firm set of rules and roles that support a centralized narrative, or concept of truth. In this philosophy, the self is characterized as a solid autonomous being, our most basic reality, making it simple to identify and resist any departure from society s definition of normalcy (Turkle 261). Within the last forty years, a poststructuralist response developed to the modernist ideology and gained the official academic title, postmodernism. This philosophy serves as a direct contrast to modernism, embracing the idea of a decentered, multi faceted self that consists of fragmented but coherent parts. There is no definitive truth to these interconnections, making reality and human identity fluid and capable of transitioning between numerous nonlinear concepts (Turkle 17). In postmodern reality, disjointed ideas receive meaning through their relationships to each other; the presence of thought becoming just as significant as what is noticeably lacking. The multiplicity of meaning and truth in the postmodern environment makes identity opaque, allusive, and dense, but also presents the opportunity for remarkable diversity.
  • 39. A Patient With Respiratory Acidosis Essay a) In a patient with respiratory acidosis, the partial pressure of CO2 in the plasma (PCO2) rises above normal levels of 40 mmHg (1). Airway resistance due to asthma, respiratory depression due to drug use as well as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease all cause hypoventilation, lowering partial pressure of plasma oxygen (PO2) to below its normal value of approximately 100 mm Hg (1) and can lead to respiratory acidosis. The equation below describes the equation between CO2 and H2O with H+ and HCO3 . According to the law of mass action, all reactions tend towards equilibrium, and any disturbance in the amount of any of the products or reactants will shift the reaction in a direction which leads to re establishment of equilibrium. If CO2 concentration rises, the new chemical equilibrium will favour further production of both H+ and HCO3 through disassociation of H2CO3. Each additional molecule of CO2 would lead to production of one molecule of H+ and HCO3 . гЂ–COгЂ—_2+H_2 Oв†’ H_2 CO^3в†’H^++HCO_3^ (1). Production of H+ will cause plasma pH to fall below 7.4. Normally, increases in H+ concentrations are buffered mostly by haemoglobin, however buffers can only resist small changes in pH. The HCO3 levels increase slightly, but are likely to still remain within normal levels of 22 to 26 mEq/L. This is because equilibrium changes in concentrations is slight compared to the large compensatory changes (1). Renal mechanisms can assist in excreting H+ and reabsorbing HCO3 .

The protagonist s in each story consider all their options and think ahead before making a life changing decision. In the stories The Bicycle and Lather and Nothing Else both Horton and Tellez use symbolism to portray an overall theme of making difficult choices. In The Bicycle Hannah has her life completely controlled by her Tante Rose. She has no freedom because she is forbidden to break the Sabbath in anyway, and due to Tante Rose s previous traumatic experience with a bicycle, she is absolutely forbidden to ride one. In the end, Hannah chooses to go against her aunts wishes and rides a bicycle. She expresses that she wanted to prove she had some control over her own life (Horton 35). The bicycle acts as a symbol of freedom; from Hannah breaking the promise she made to her Tante Rose, to having control of her own life and becoming who she wanted to be from the start. Likewise, in Lather and Nothing Else the barber untimely had a choice of being a murderer or hero.
