Wuthering Heights Essay Prompts
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Wuthering Heights Essay Prompts" can be a challenging
endeavor that demands a comprehensive understanding of Emily BrontГ«'s classic novel and the
ability to explore various prompts effectively. One of the primary challenges lies in delving into
the intricate characters, complex relationships, and the dark, atmospheric setting of Wuthering
Heights. Analyzing the psychological depths of Heathcliff and Catherine, navigating the themes
of love, revenge, and the supernatural, requires a careful examination of the text.
Moreover, the essay must not merely summarize the plot but delve into the underlying symbolism
and motifs that BrontГ« weaves throughout the narrative. Unraveling the layers of symbolism in
the moors, the houses, and the intricate relationships can be intellectually demanding. It
necessitates an insightful interpretation to bring out the profound messages and nuances
embedded in the story.
Furthermore, responding to specific prompts involves critical thinking and the ability to draw
connections between the text and broader themes, historical context, or even contemporary
relevance. This adds an additional layer of complexity to the writing process, requiring a
nuanced understanding of literary analysis.
In addition to the intellectual challenges, maintaining a coherent and well-structured essay is
paramount. Organizing thoughts, supporting arguments with textual evidence, and presenting a
compelling thesis demand a high level of writing proficiency.
Despite these difficulties, the process of crafting an essay on "Wuthering Heights Essay
Prompts" can be a rewarding intellectual exercise. It encourages a deeper engagement with the
text and fosters analytical skills that extend beyond the literary realm.

Jane Eyre And Bertha s Mental Dispositions
Survival of the Luckiest: An Analysis of Jane s and Bertha s Mental Dispositions
Madness is a recurring theme in Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Jane Eyre, and
Bertha Mason all have both experienced extreme mental distress and reacted in
their own unique but similar way. Many scholars have deeply analyzed the
symbolic and literal meanings of Bertha s insanity and associating it to the
oppressive force of the patriarchy. I argue that along with this, Bertha s insanity
serves the hidden purpose of bringing to light Jane s lack of independence and
effort that led to her success. The two characters have been placed under similar
circumstances. The most notable one is Jane being trapped in the Red Room and
Bertha being imprisoned in Thornfield attic for ten years after showing signs of
violent insanity. The difference is that Jane s violent outburst against her cousin John
Reed was explained from her perspective. She hardly mentions that she was winning
their fight in an attempt to play the victim. One can assume that Bertha may have had
similar angry feelings towards Rochester because she was somehow trapped in an
arranged marriage for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when faced with hardship, Jane is portrayed as having a somewhat
delicate psychological state. After being trapped in the dark Red Room for a few
minutes, she was startled by a light which gleamed on the wall. Her subsequent
response is overly hysterical and most probably self induced, after all she only saw
a light on the wall, but then begins to hear the rushing of wings and feel the
physical symptoms indicative of a panic attack. When Jane was locked in again she
had a species of fit (17). Jane does not seem like a resilient person at any point
throughout her journey. Her only show of strength was her shaky adherence to her
Shea Butter Research Paper
Taken from the African Shea tree for centuries, Shea butter is often used as a base
ingredient in cosmetics. Shea Butter is recognized, as well, as an effective, natural
healer for skin irritations such as insect bites, abrasions, and burns. History shows
that Shea Butter used as a medicinal agent by the Egyptians thousands of years ago. It
has superb moisturizing properties that bring soothing relief for pain and supports skin
rejuvenation.
As an alternative to toxins often found in commercial hair and cosmetic products,
Shea Butter is a better choice than propylene glycol, which as been found to cause
internal organ damage in humans. propylene glycol is an ingredient in automobile
antifreeze/coolant.
Another toxic ingredient in commercial hair and cosmetic products is SLS, (Sodium

Operational Planning for Wal-Mart
Operational Planning for Wal Mart
Introduction
The first Wal Mart was opened in Rogers, Arkansas, in 1962. By 1969 it was
incorporated into Wal Mart Stores, Inc., and in 1972 went public on the New York
Stock Exchange. The company grew steadily across the United States, and by
1990 was the nation s largest retailer. In 1991 and 1994, Wal Mart moved into
Mexico and Canada respectively. By 1997 it was incorporated into the Dow Jones
Industrial Average. As of 2005, Wal Mart has stores in the United Kingdom, and
Puerto Rico, and brings in revenue of close to 300 billion dollars a year. In 2006,
Wal Mart invaded the China and India s markets. During the last two decades, Wal
Mart has been able to take advantage of the rise of information ... Show more content

Wal Mart works with it s sellers until they feel they have the best quality for their
money spent (Hoffman, W. 2006). One example, Wal Mart has an automatic
recording system that is in connection with one of their clients which lets Wal Mart
know when it is time to re stock product. After notification, the store orders a re
supply at the closest Procter and Gamble factory. The product is then transported
straight to the branch of the store that separates the product to go to each receiving
store. The current plan of operation between this receiving store and Proctor and
Gamble creates better coordination which allows Proctor and Gamble to cut its costs
giving savings to the buying store (Bolan, C. 2005).
Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats in Wal Mart s
Operational Planning
Wal Mart has established their selves as a market leader by using simple strategy of
offering merchandise at lower prices. By the use of efficient logistics that consist of
the latest technology and inventory management processes, Wal Mart improve its
buying power, scale of operations, and minimizes cost for the company as one of
their strengths (Wal Mart Stores, Inc. SWOT Analysis 2006). One of company s
weaknesses is the declining prices and diminishing margins. With the increase in
operational efficiencies and import of Chinese goods in the US market, Wal Mart has
been suffering from

Introduction to Hershey Hershey Foods Corporation is number one in the
confectionary foods market. Although many people associate Hershey with
chocolate, the company started when founder Milton Hershey decided to produce
caramel in 1894.They are most famous for their major candy brands such as
Hershey s, Reese s, Kit Kat, Kisses, Twizzlers, Jolly Rancher etc. However, Hershey
also sells grocery products including: baking chocolate, chocolate milk, ice cream

Competitors are also well positioned in international markets in order to diversify
economic stresses of their business environments. Potential Entry of New
Competitors In order to enter into the confectionary market and compete with
Hershey is impossible. Not only because they are number one of the largest in their
industry but because they are well established. Hershey has been doing business
for over a century. There is no way for a new entrant to achieve that level of brand
awareness and customer brand loyalty. It would also be impossible for an entrant to
compete as an economy of scale because of the large amount of start up capital it
would require to compete. There is also the issue of technological Know How. As
stated earlier Hershey has been doing this sort of business for over a century and is
very efficient at what they do. Potential Development of Substitute Products Hershey
faces many issues when it comes to substitute products. In the confectionary industry
there is a large number of substitute products. If any of Hershey s competitors are
delivering more value to consumers through price, quality, or quantity they will lose
customers. The only thing that separates Hershey from everyone else is their brand
recognition. Maintaining their image, product quality, and competitive pricing is key
to avoid losing customers. Bargaining Power of Consumer Consumers have
extremely high bargaining power when it comes to Hershey products. As
Analyzing Carl Sandburg s Poem
The grass isn t always greener on the other side. Not when it covers up the corpses of
the forgotten and the desolate. The personification of the grass makes the audience
look through a different lens, where they aren t blinded by human perspective. In this
poem, the grass levels the playing field and demands to be heard through its
commanding and frustrated tone. It gives insight beyond the simplicity of human
nature. Carl Sandburg s Grass uses proper nouns, present imperative and interrogatory
to demonstrate that humans can t, and more importantly, don t want to learn from
their mistakes. Sandburg uses proper nouns to clearly indicate the important diction
in the poem. The only names that are included are the names of battlefield sites....

The audience gets to see through the eyes of the grass from the present imperative.
It uses strong and demanding words that leave no room for argument and barks
out commands that can t be objected to. The grass speaks in clipped and controlled
sentences such as, Pile them high...Shovel them under (1 2). Its simplistic in its
demands but authoritative. It s the grass s job to cover up the human s mistakes.
There isn t ignorance to what is happening. It s fully aware that its mission is to
hide the dead and it s secure in its role. As it repeats the same phrase over and over,
with no variation, the audience gets a sense that it s been doing this for a long
time and therefore desensitized to it. But there is frustration as it says, Let me
work (2), as if it s tired of having to do the same thing repeatedly. The grass has
lived long enough to know that there will be more bodies it must cover. It is all a
part of its routine by now but that doesn t make it less tiring. It s a never ending
cycle but it still conforms to its role. It s not thinking about the lives lost but instead
of the job it must do. It blames the humans for their disregard of human life and
forcing the grass to be a part of
Causes And Effects Of Sexual Harassment
Everyone thinks that Sexual Harassment is infrequent, but speaking from
experience it can happen at anytime , any day , and any age. I was sexually
harassed at the age of 11, and I was so terrified even now it makes my skin crawl. I
wish I would have reported it or spoke up, but instead I lived with the self
condemnation , shame, and thoughts in my head. Although people do not think much
of Sexual Harassmentit occurs too often, and its effects may last a lifetime on all
victims whether female, male, teen, child, adult, or elder. The effects can range from
depression to suicide; however, help is available for coping. First of all Suicide yes,
suicideit s a very touchy subject for most people, but sexual Harassment can play a
role in it. Suicide is a major effect and the most common effect of sexual harassment
victims. A study found that 23 percent of students had experienced at least one
incident of unwanted sexual touching, sexual threats or remarks, or indecent
exposure in the past six months. Of women who had experienced frequent, unwanted
sexual touching, 15 percent said they had made suicide attempts often in the past six
months, compared with 2 percent of students that had not experienced sexual
harassment.(Rettner) An astonishing 15%, and most of them were under the age of
25. Sexual harassment can raise the numbers on suicide statistics and can affect the
way that individual views life and sees people. It can even affect the victims loved
ones if that
Plato And Augustine Of Hippo
Some of the most famous people of the ancient world were philosophers. These
certain individuals became more well known than many war heroes and kings
because of the ways in which they thought about, and perceived the world. Historians
along with other people became fascinated with their ideas. This resulted in their
ideas becoming the foundation for the ways in the world thinks today. Some of these
people include Plato, and Augustine of Hippo. These men thought about the ways of
the world unlike any others had before them. They were not satisfied with the
knowledge that world gave them, and so they continued to ask questions and dig
deeper until they were able to find an answer. These two men both lived in times
where the people around them were very confused. This lead to both of them being
very influential in their separate times. Plato s way of thinking came from his
teacher, another great Greek philosopher, Socrates. Plato was born in 427 B.C. and
was member of a very wealthy, upper class family in the Greek city state of Athens.
He was given the opportunity to study under Socrates and became his disciple.
Socrates taught Plato much of his knowledge and wisdom, which resulted in him
also becoming a great philosopher. Socrates didn t do any of his own writings, so
we can learn about him from what Plato writes about him. Plato was very similar to
Socrates in the way that he thought but unlike Socrates, Plato was a teacher as well
as a philosopher. He created the

Time has readings from Malachi 1:14B 2:2B 8 10, Psalm 131:1 3, 1 Thessalonians
2:7 13, and Matthew 23: 1 12. The main connection in these readings is between
Malachi 1:14B 2:2B 8 10 and Matthew 23: 1 12. They are both trying to provide a
greater message that is still relevant today. Through uncovering the connections
between these readings, we are able to find a greater truth that God is trying to get
through to us. The main theme is the hypocrisy of the priest, meaning a priest
preaches one thing but then behaves differently. In the First reading, Malachi 1:14B
2:2B 8 10, it is really focusing on what priest say versus how they really act. It starts

Symbolism In Inherit The Wind
The play Inherit the wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee contains many
abstract symbols that give the story a timeless essence. We see these symbols through
the ongoing conflict between evolutionism and creationism. While exploring the
conflict the reader gains insight into how exactly ones right to think freely is
forbidden through the town itself Heavenly Hillsboro . The ideathat ones right to
think freely relates to another symbol, the golden dancer. Through the wooden play
horse the reader learns that nothing is as it seems and sometimes one must look
beyond the horizon. The central symbol, windwas generally used in and around the
play that suggested the mood of chaos relating predominantly to many of the
relationships.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader is first introduced to this concept by Drummond when he says, Bert,
whenever you see something bright, shining, perfect seeming all gold, with purple
spots look behind the paint! And if it s a lie show it up for what it really is! (110).
The underlying message is that you should not put faith into something because it
appears to be great. This problem arose from the fact that the townspeople thought
that creationism was perfect. These beliefs were concrete until Drummond started to
pick at them. In a sense the beauty of the horse could be related to the outer shell
while the core would be evolutionism. In actuality creationism was this beautiful lie
while evolutionism was the ugly truth. This was applied to Brady because although
at first it seemed that he was towering over everyone with a built in spotlight in end
it proved to be that Brady was nothing but a fraud. The idea of Brady being powerful
connects to the golden dancer because although the dancer appeared to have
substance like Brady in the end it only broke down. All in all this demonstrates that
without the golden dancer Brady s authority would not have been questioned resulting
in no one questioning their
Myths And Mythology In Margaret Atwood s The Penelopid
And...
Myth and Mythology have always been among the elements which shape the lives
of individuals and the working mechanism of societies. Margaret Atwood uses in
her works every possible material that enables one to trace her experiences back to
the social, historical, cultural, and natural aspects of her identity . Her familiarity
with the Canadian wilderness can be detected in her employment of nature and
animal imagery in her poems and novels. Her novel s The Penelopid and Surfacingto
discover some common and persistent patterns of women writers use when they
rewrite myths. Atwood attempts to offer new sites of existence for women so as to
enable them to get closer to their authentic selves .
Key Words: Female myth, archetype, identity, survival, religion.

The antagonist s approach to God is manifested through other examples, too: When
the protagonist tells about the fish under the water on their fishing trip she states: I
believe in them the way other people believe in God: I can t see them but I know
they are there (Surfacing 71). Atwood s identification of Christ with animals and
plants and her identification of people, including Christians, as cannibals of Jesus is
an attempt to decentre the origin of both religion and rational thinking of the Western
mind which proposes that animals and nature be in the servitude of
The Video Reporting Of The Boulie Tacks Protest Ride

An empirical content analysis of the video reporting of the Boulie tacks protest ride:
with respect to Hall, Ericson, Schlesinger and Bourdieu to what extent do the
differences and similarities in the range of sources used in the video stories explore a
number of the varying aspects of the diverging theoretical discussions on the source

The two stories involved in my case study revolve around the protest ride against the
tacking bandit who for the past 22 months has been tacking the well loved cycling
route, the Kew Boulevard. The sources chosen by both the Channel 7 report and my
own are central to the story in that they entirely encapsulate the issue, that is, the
sources themselves shape the story i.e. the injured/tacked cyclists form the story .
They shift the focus slightly to their affects/injuries from the tacks so they have
shown what significant event this is but also how we as an audience should
understand this to be i.e. bad man/woman throwing tacks is a disgrace look how
many people are injured then contrast that with people in powerful positions also
being irate, calling for this should stop.
Clearly here the Channel 7 story clearly explicates Hall s notions of the use of
Primary defines by new media by the use of the Premier. According to Hall, primary
definers are authoritative sources on an issue that can be seen to frame the
discussions surrounding this is within the news (1978, p. 58) and all subsequent
interpretations following the primary definer are then always compared back to the
initial primary interpretation (Hall et al. 1978, p. 58). He suggests broadcasters
Professional Racism and Discrimination
The Los Angeles Police Department has a reputation for using race as a basis to
catch criminals. Racial profiling is the use of race or ethnicity as grounds for
believing an individual is suspicious of committing a crime. Discriminatory or
abusive behavior towards people of color affects the justice system and violates
people s human rights. The LAPD continues to use racial profiling against mostly
African Americans and Latinos. The use of racial profiling by the LAPD prevents the
policefrom serving the whole community. Because of the LAPD s neglect towards
certain neighborhoods, the neglect causes those communities to not trust or want to
work with the police. Racial profiling should not be used by the LAPD because it is
immoral,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results were 38% of Whites and 89%of Blacks thought the justice system was
prejudiced towards Blacks (Chaney 483). The survey also showed that 8% of Blacks
and 56% of Whites thought the criminal justice system treated Blacks equally
(Chaney 483). The survey shows that Blacks are less trusting of the justice system
than Whites because of stereotypes and racial profiling. Because the LAPD uses
racial profiling, racial profiling causes Blacks to not want to work with police
because the LAPD is telling the African American community that the LAPD does
not trust the African Americans. When the LAPD uses racial profiling, it sends a
message that Whites are already assumed to be law abiding citizens, whereas
Blacks and Hispanics are assumed to be associated with criminal activities.
Although people may say that racial profiling is justified if it is an effective way
of catching criminals if race or ethnic characteristics help the police (Ryberg 79). In
other words, police will arrest more possible criminals. However, this causes police
to search for individuals who fit the profile and over look people who don t fit the
profile. Because of police targeting certain racial communities for certain crimes, the
police community relationship becomes disrupted (Dunn 561 4). The disruption
causes people to not want to cooperate with police if the police are searching for
suspects and the police need information. Racial Profiling is ineffective because it
only targets a

Difference Between Dogs And Cats
Of all the various domestic pets the modern world has to offer, dogs and cats are
still the most common by far. You ve likely heard that someone is either a cat
person or a dog person, but what makes one better than the other? What are their
differences, and what do these animals possibly have in common? It is important
to know the specifics of an animal in order to decide which pet is best for you. So,
what are some things the prospective pet owner should know about our feline and
canine friends before adopting? While both of these animals are mammalian, cats are
member of the feline family, and dogs a part of the canine family. Like most pets, it
is highly recommended that they are spayed or neutered in efforts to prevent
overpopulation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the act of tufting up the fur along the animal s spine and tail and is a widely
recognized sign of aggression. Cats are known for their focused stare and stiff body
stance. They also perform a sharp twitching of their tails to provide a warning of
their frustration and may even swat with the paws. The most common sign of anger
and fear in a cat is the vocalization of a hiss or a growl. This is usually the final
warning that the cat is preparing to attack.
Whenever aggressive behavior occurs, it is pertinent that the cause of the behavior is
determined. There are several medical conditions that can result in aggression. It is
recommended that a veterinarian is contacted to rule out any serious complications
that could be causing the unwanted behavior. If all else fails, it is best to contact a
trainer and/or behavioral specialist to work to correct the problem.
Although it is obvious that cats and dogs have many more differences than
similarities, they both share the same environmental factors that can greatly affect
their physical and mental health. It is important to provide your pet with love,
affection, and a safe living situation to ensure that they receive the best quality of
life possible. To own a pet is to take on the responsibility of providing that animal
with any and all care it may
Philosophy of Behaviorism
Philosophy of Behaviorism

Abstract
For hundreds of years there has been a fascination on how humans behave and how
humans learn. This has been observed and studied by psychologists, educators, and
scientists by means of humans and animals and how they perform in different
environments. This fascination is known as behaviorism. This aspect of behaviorism
deals with how a humans or animals respond to a certain stimuli and how a new
behavior is then developed. This paper will address the philosophy of behaviorism,
the great contributors to behaviorism and their aspects of behavioral learning such as
classical conditioning and operant conditioning.

Psychoanalysis is a school of thought that was founded by Sigmund Freud. This
theory focuses on that behavior is influenced by the unconscious mind. Freud felt that
the human mind was made up of three elements which include the id, the ego, and the
superego. Eric Erikson, Carl Jung, and Anna Freud were also psychoanalysis
thinkers. Humanistic psychology was developed as a response to behaviorism and
psychoanalysis. Individual free will, self actualization and personal growth were
focused on by humanistic psychology. Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow were
amongst the major humanistic psychology thinkers. Gestalt psychology is based
upon that people experience things as unified wholes. This approach started in the
late 19th century in Austria and Germany. This approach was a response to molecular
approach of structuralism (Cherry, 2005). Gestalt psychologists felt things must be
looked at as a whole rather than breaking the thought down. They believed that a
whole is more than just the sum of its parts. Cognitive psychology is a school of
thought which studies the mental process including how we remember, think,
perceive, and learn. Philosophy, neuroscience, and linguistics are disciplines that are
related to this branch of psychology. The stages of cognitive development theory by
Jean Piaget were amongst the most influential theories from cognitive psychology.

Model Of Divorce
In the U.S, divorce rates have been rising since the beginning of the 20th century.
Fifty percent of all marriages end in divorce, and one half of these consist of
families with children although the number of divorces involving children varies by
race and ethnicity. The relative risk of a marriage ending in divorceis affected by a
range of factors, like: education, religiosity, and the age of the couple at marriage,
household income, race/ethnicity, community characteristics, and parents marital
history.
Researchers who have studied divorce provide an overview of the process of
family reorganization, prevalence of divorce and subsequent transitions in the lives
of divorced couples. A process model of divorce is the most commonly accepted

Social Inequality In Urbanization
Urbanization is a complex phenomenon that brought multitudes of diverse social
groups together into one central location. Suddenly cities began to overflow with
new cultures and ethnicities that gave communities vibrant characteristics and new
life. People were able to access modern conveniences and socially network among
thousands of individuals, all within one city. The economics of the city allowed for
greater production and a thriving business system that promoted politics and
business. Products from all over the world could be accessible somewhere in the vast
cities that expanded across the United States. However, even from the beginning of
this glorious migration to cities, inequality was embedded in the social system of
stigmas and prejudice for minority populations (Gottdiener, M., Hutchison, R., Ryan,
M., 2015). As wealth and prosperity consumed the dominating Caucasian population,
inequality and disadvantage settled over minorities such as Blacks and Latinos.
Quickly, racial and ethic groups divided into segregated communities within urban
societies inner cities. The pseudo blanket of togetherness , as one community, was
hiding the disadvantages and biases that limited the growth of minority groups in
economics, society, and social mobility. Limitations were set by the dominating social
groups that encouraged discrimination and prejudice towards minorities (Gottdiener,
2015). Even after decades of civil rights movements and freedom for all protests, little
Essay On Us Immigration Policy
United States Immigration Policy
Our economic times, international relations, and terrorism have shaped our countries
immigration policy. These issues have driven us to pass legislation opening and
closing our borders in response to current events. Though not always at the forefront
of concern, it has been a constant struggle that has affected the dynamics of our
country. Arizona s recent passing of tough immigration laws aimed at identifying and
deporting illegal immigrants has again put immigration at the forefront of American
politics. Additionally, it has raised the question of constitutionality and rekindled the
flame of State v. Federal power. In order to trace the history of our countries

Over the next sixty years United States immigration policy would continue to resist
not just Chinese immigration but Asian immigration as a whole. Chinese
immigration may have been at standstill but the need for cheap labor was still there.
This lead to an influx of Japanese immigrants to fill the void left by the Chinese work
force. This would lead problems as Americans would again resent having their jobs
given to immigrants. That compounded with rampant racial conflicts lead to
President Roosevelt entering into an agreement with the Japanese government known
as the Gentleman s Agreement of 1907 (Three Decades of Mass Intergration, 1995).
Japan agreed not to issue out passports to Japanese citizens wanting to work in the
United States and the United States agreed not to segregate the existing Japanese
population residing in the United States. Unlike the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882,
this was not an act but an agreement that was never ratified. Its main purpose was to
ease tensions between Japan and the United States. Though it did serve to limit the
number of Japanese immigrants coming into the country. Asian immigration into the
United States would be dealt another blow in the years to come. As animosity
towards Asian s escalated in the early 1900 s so did the attempts to keep them from
entering the United States. The Chinese Exclusion Act had already
The Public Sphere Within Theatre
The Public Sphere within theatre was a concept that was first delineated by
philosopher Jurgen Habermas in his book titled The structural transformation of the
public sphere, in which he refers to the right that all citizens hold, the right to
participate and engage into discussions on public matters of interest and public
issues. Habermas writes: the audience does not constitute a space for spectators and
listeners but a space for speakers and addresses who engage in debate. (Habermas in
Balme 2012). The Public spherehas now become a space, a stage, for performers,
speakers and protesters to have a voice rather than for the preliminary use of
entertainment for the audience, spectators and listeners.

theatre s role in the Public Sphere is explored. Balme traces the origins ... Show more

Academic and artistic interest in something is usually a sure sign that matters are
unclear, conceptual boundaries are blurred and that old certainties are anything
but that. There is also little doubt that the major challenges we face: the media
revolution, globalization and migration, climate change, the erosion of public
finances and services (to name just a few) have all in some way a bearing on the
public sphere, the realm where issues are debated and where citizens are free to
enter and engage in discourse. As the public sphere is primarily a discursive arena
located outside and between state bureaucracies on the one hand and economics and
business on the other, it occupies a crucial role in the functioning of so called free
societies. The question to be explored here is what role theatre and performance in
practice play in this realm and how performance and theatre theory can contribute to
the debates. (Balme
Some Of Common Misconceptions In Lullaby By Leslie
Marrman...
1.)What are some of the common misconceptions about indigenous writers? In
what ways do the writers we ve read play on those stereotypes? Some of the
common misconceptions is that indigenous writers are that they could not speak
English, uneducated, all lived in teepees, and their medicine was primitive. The
writers that we have read about dealt with these stereotypes was by including hints
and lines that these stereotypes are false. Lullaby by Leslie Marmon Silko has a
line about where the Indians stayed showing that they did not live in teepees. In
this story they lived in a boxcar shack where the rancher let the Indians live (pg
1545). Pawn Shop by Sherman Alexie is a very short work that demonstrates that
Indians are civilized. The man in the story goes into a bar looking for all of his
friends but can not find them so he leaves after the bartender gives him a free drink
for all of his troubles. I leave, searching the streets, searching storefronts, until I
walk into a pawn shop, find a single heart beating under glass, and I know who it
used to belong to, I know all of them (pg 1647). This works demonstrates that
Indians are just like normal people who go to shops, bars, and lose people along
the way that they miss dearly. 2.) Select one writer and write an extended reader
response to his/her work. Why did you like/dislike the work? Why? Lullaby by
Leslie Marmon Silko is a work that is depressing. There is real truth within it but it
is saddening. The beginning of the story a woman is remembering happier times
and her family members. Jimmie, which I was not able to identify the relationship
between the women and Jimmie was being remembered and thought upon by the
women. She realizes that she should not dwell on him since he is not dead. Yet,
one day a dark blue sedan with white writing on its doors pulled up in front of the
boxcar shack where the rancher let the Indians live. A man in a khaki uniform
trimmed in gold gave then a yellow piece of paper and told them that Jimmie was
dead (pg. 1545). The fact this woman found of that Jimmie was dead and she was
just telling herself that he was still alive to give herself hope is heartbreaking. I did
not like the work, the themes of death and
Hobby Lobby and the Obama Administration
The issue is over Hobby Lobby vs. the Obama Administration. Hobby Lobby has
taken a stance against ObamaCare s contraception coverage. ObamaCare s
affordable health care act, gives employees who are women access to
contraceptives such as the morning after pill and IUDs, which the plaintiffs of
Hobby Lobby considered to be forms of abortion. The contraceptive coverage in
the new Health Care law makes preventative care more accessible and affordable to
millions of Americans. This is particularly important for women who are more
likely to avoid the cost of contraceptives because of cost. To help address these
barriers in terms of cost and ensure that all women have access to preventative
Health Care Act, all new private insurance plan that covers a wide range of
preventative services such as breast x rays, pap smears smoking prevention and

current problem is that the Affordable Care Act is imposing on the 500 store
chains of Hobby Lobby s religious rights by forcing the company to provide full
coverage of contraceptives of the 13,000 workers as part of its health care plans.
David Green and family, whom founded Hobby Lobby, believe that the healthcare

Example Of Six Hats Strategy
Concept of Six hats strategy
The concept is typically used in business settings; however, applying the same
concept in counseling supervision can help facilitate and balance diverse viewpoints
and polarities. (Li, 2008). Six thinking hats strategy helps in creative thinking in
which one can unbundle thinking; in a way that one can pay full attention to each
aspect in turn. Through using this strategy, one can separate the modes of thinking
and then apply each mode to the same subject in order to end up with full color
thinking on the subject. There is a suggestion that the chemical setting in the brain
(neurotransmitter, etc) may be different when one is being positive from when one
is being negative, and from one is being creative. If this proves to be so, then there
is an absolute need to separate out the different components of thinking in order to
do each properly. It would be impossible to have one brain setting that was ideal for
all sorts of thinking. (De Bono, 1998).

(2008) stated that insufficient supervisory support increases stress, negative

Two of the challenges of counseling supervision are assisting counselor interns as
they build their facilitation, conceptualization, and intervention skills, plus gaining
understanding of the clients they serve (Torres Rivera et al., 2001). Counselor
interns are also required to recognize and balance their internal differing points of
view in developing a model of integration (Bernard Goodyear, 2004). The Six
Thinking Hats model (de Bono, 2008) can be applied to group supervision of
counselor interns and can aid in gaining awareness and making decision. The
technique is a metaphorical way to view a problem or a counseling situation around
six different viewpoints following a certain color scheme and using the theme of

While leaving a child unattended may be culturally correct in some countries, it is
not appropriate everywhere. Whether a Scandinavian is visiting and treats America
as Scandinavia, leaving a child unattended or whether it be an American engaging in
this same practice, wrong is wrong. There are many factors that should be taken into
consideration all regarding the safety of the child, and I believe in America a child
should never be left unattended. It puts the child in harm s way, and there is lack of
supervision hence, is it Child neglect, which is Child abuse and should not happen. If
this should take place in America, no matter what the culture, I believe that it should
be handled accordingly meaning it should be reported to the proper authorities.

Advanced Directive Essay
Tennessee law on advanced directives is a document that tells your family, friends,
and doctors on how you want to be treated in an emergency. Advance directive can
be a document or a living will in which you state the plan of care when you are no
longer able to communicate treatment choices or decision. Advance directives is
not only for the elderly but it can be at any age even if you are not sick at the time
of the document. This document list the details of treatment that you want
implemented if a serious incident was to happen. It would tell what interventions
should be used in your care. Some of the choices would include a full status code
where the patient wants CPR or a do not resistant code can be used for treatment.
The client can also have the option of limited interventions with each code status. It
would include artificial ventilation or artificial feeding and any type of tubes
associated with your treatment. The client can also be specific if he or she wants
just medical treatment only including the use of drug therapy. In this paper, we will

Every person except one did not know what an advanced directive states. The only

family. They had two children as execrator of the will and one child as a healthcare

artificial nutrient or ventilation. They only sought out partial interventions which
made their status a code C. During this time the patient coded, and the wishes the

Reflection On Career Development
A.This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson
encourages students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets,
and their interests. Students then take those concepts and apply them to career
exploration. They are able to link their strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential
future careerpaths. Some of the specific aspects of career development that I
addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and
obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and
success, and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post
secondary options. In this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision
making skills to place different careers into the appropriate career fields. In doing
so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest to
them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources
in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not
expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is
never too early to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in
order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also believe that this unit
touches on social and emotional development as well as academic development. This
lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well
as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students
to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self
esteem and promotes a sense of self awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses
academic development. Students will understand that good grades and academic
success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being
academically successful, this will allow them greater options and opportunity post
high school graduation.

My Oxfam Hunger Experience
After recently attending the Oxfam Hunger Experience at the Atwood Memorial
Center, I have a new appreciation for the widespread problem of hunger. It was an
eye opening experience that demonstrates the vast number of people that face hunger
on a daily basis. It also illustrated the limited control people have over their situation.
When first arriving to the event, everyone drew a card to determine what income
group they would be in. The proportion of income groups assigned was
proportionally equivalent to the spread of wealth in the real world. I was a part of the
largest group assigned to the lowest income group. With my low income card, I
was allowed to serve myself one small bowl of Ramen noodles. People in the
medium income group were able to grab themselves a plate of spaghetti, and the
highest income group was served their meal, which was spaghetti and meatballs with
cookies. Seeing the proportion of the world that lives below the poverty line was eye
opening. The content of the meals also demonstrated the challenges of eating
healthy on a low budget. People in the high income group ate a well balanced
spaghetti and meatball meal. The low income group ate Ramen noodles, which has
very little nutritional value. People who live on a small income do not have the
means of obtaining fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods due to the higher cost.
For many low income families, fast food becomes an accessible and inexpensive
source of meals, but these meals provide

Horror Movies Are All the same
Horror movies generally are all the same. They all have been based off of
something that has already happened or a previous movie. Society has paid to be
entertained by these gruesome stories that we all truly fear. Before movies, people
would purchase books of similar traumatic events to read in their spare time for
amusement. It has been said by the Filmmakers IQ s horror filmlesson (2012), that
writers such as Bram Stoker created graphic novels that would grab the audience s
attention for years to come. But the horror movie, The House Of The Devil (1896),
was noted as being the first ever horror movie. And as the years pasted, the industry

Stoker s heir still ended up suing, and the courts ordered all copies of Nosferatu be

story of Dracula is continually told and being remade even today. It is something
that has always frightened people, so the industry continues to build off it. The
older generation of writers such as Bram Stoker and Mary Shelly are known for
German Expressionism. German Expressionism is responsible for creating The
Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari, which is still considered one of the greatest silence films
created in the era. Ryan Koo (2013) claims the film also took credit for being one
of the first to example story board and having a twist ending. Once the film had
been created it lead people to explore the possibilities of the art of horror.
Following the creation of The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari was the making of The

clay monster that saved Pragues Jewish citizens for an emperor that believed they
were ritually killing children. Gothic Horror has to be one of the best forms of art.

Injustice In My Oedipus Complex
Hence, Greene portrays Jerome as a warden with no fear of troubles to mollify the
anger inside him for what he suffered from his friends. Looking at Jerome, people
can visualize a part of Greene s life. Another point needed to mention is that Greene
was sent to London for psychotherapy due to his mental and emotional problems
(Encyclopedia of world biography, 2017). Just like Greene, Jerome also has mental
illness or even depression which is clearly proven by his reaction when he heard
about his father s new. Jerome was unfeeling about the death of his father, he even
did not cry or surprise at all. Certainly, the imagery of Jerome not only exposes the
aspiration of the author but reflect the inmost feelings of him.
Additionally, each author has their own way setting characters and telling the
story either by the third point of view or the first point of view to make the best

story which is told or it also can be said that point of view is a strategy, technique,

Art is always evolving with the people causing the styles and technique. In the 1900s
style of paintings started to change dramatically. The colors got brighter and the lines

In The Large Bathers the colors are dark, they are sitting around a pond, and it is a

how they are interacting with each other. The emotions on the peoples faces are

Magic Black Negro And Other Blackness
One specific moment that was powerful to me is the part where he shares his true
feelings about performing this play. The man s name was Mark Kendall and the
story title was called The Magic Black Negro and Other Blackness. This moment
that stood out to me in the grand scheme happened during the middle or close to the
end of the play. Its funny this stood out to me because as the theatre would erupt in

Mark Kendall was the Magic Black Negro, but he didn t take on that persona in all of

3. A dominating aesthetic choice found in the performance I believe was movement.
Mark was all over the place and he had lots of volunteer activities. Lots of them were
crucial to the sketches.
Well when I went into this particular performance, I didn t think of a comedy sketch

For example, the sketch about the shark being oppressed but at least he wasn t
black. Also the space, he didn t have many props, all we saw was an open stage, so
he wasn t limited to things he had to use. In my opinion he had a whole realm of
imaginative ideas that he could use with the very space he had. ) I believe that a

2.3.1 Physicochemical properties of soils
Soil properties are shown in Table 2.1. These soils had a loamy texture with different
contents of clay, sand and silt. pH values ranged from 4.45 to 7.73. TC was in the
range of 1.6 to 8.37 % without significant amounts of TN and TS detected. TOC
varied between 1.48 and 8.37% whilst DOC showed a wide range from 106 to 400
mg kg 1. CEC values ranged from 2.9 to 17.9 cmol kg 1. Concentrations of Fe oxide,
Al oxide, and Mn oxide were 0.28 12.49 g kg 1, 0.5 12.6 g kg 1 and 0.0252 0.302 g
kg 1, respectively. Total concentrations of As and Cd in control and spiked soilafter
one year aging were listed in Table S1 (Appendix 2). The difference between the
spiked concentrations and measured ones may be due to the particle size (spiked
soils were sieved to 250 Ојm particle size was used for all measurements.
2.3.3 Relationships between the bioaccessibility, total concentrations and selected
soil properties
Strong linear relationships between bioaccessible As/Cd (both gastric and intestinal
phases) and total As/Cd in soils were observed with R2 varying between 0.72 and
0.98 (Figure 2.1). Therefore, within the spiked concentrations of As and Cd in this
study, the soluble As and Cd during UBM extraction increased proportionally along
with total concentrations in soils. Relations in gastric phase was stronger than that in
intestinal phase probably due to the high solubility of both As and Cd in the gastric
phase. These
Essay On Mount Vesuvius
In 79 CE, a disastrous eruption from Mt. Vesuvius occurred. This eruption affected
many towns, but one famous town affected was one that was located about five
miles from the volcano. This ancient Roman area was known as Pompeii. After the
eruption, it was abandoned for many years, until explorers rediscovered Pompeiiin
1748. Below the dust and debris, was a town that once lively; mostly everything
remained intact. For a long time, people thought that the Pompeiians had suffocated,
but now many historians believe that those who perished in Pompeii died after being
hit by an explosion and hot debris. Evidence has been collected to prove this theory
including body casts which captured villagers in their last living moments, skeletons
in nearby towns and facts about volcanic behaviour.

There are 1,510 active volcanoes in the world; Mt. Vesuvius and Mount St. Helens
are two of these volcanoes. They are both stratovolcanoes, which means they are
conical shaped. Pyroclastic flows can set apart stratovolcanoes from the rest.
Pyroclastic flows have a big amount of extremely hot gas and rock, which slide down
the volcano. In 1980, Mount St. Helens erupted, sending pyroclastic flows this was
the first time they had witnessed a pyroclastic flow; this helped further understand
what happened in Pompeii. This piece of evidence shows that pyroclastic flows killed
the Pompeiians.
Due to new evidence surfacing, it is believed that Pompeiians were engulfed in
pyroclastic flows, which killed them. Body casts created from plaster, in particular
the body cast named The Muleteer ; Herculaneum s cracked skeletal remains; and
factual information about volcanic behaviour ensures that this theory is true. Mt.
Vesuvius caused the deaths of many innocent lives by boiling hot gas, debris and
rock that rushed down the side of the
Compare And Contrast The Constitutional Requirements
The Constitution Requirements
Define the Articles of Confederation and why the Constitution was needed
The agreement made by the original 13 states in 1777 establishing a confederacy to
be know as the United Stated of America; replaced by the Constitution of 1788.
There have some reasons to create this Constitution.
To replace the Articles of Confederation, which granted too little power to the federal
government. Like: could not raise money for taxing; no control the foreign
commerce; it could pass laws but can t force the states to follow them.
The history of the Constitutional Convention
James Madison and Edmund Randolph, who were the two Virginia delegates who
had anticipated this possibility, arrived at the Convention with the rough ... Show

So, the government need to separate the powers to the three parts: legislative (the
people who create the laws), executive (the people who enact the laws), and judicial
powers of government (the people who judge the laws).
Federation is one of the more ingenious creations to grow out of the Constitutional
Convention. The federal system established by the Constitution was unique in that it
created a governmental system in which the real powers of the political system were
truly divided between the centralized and decentralized units of government. (
Weatherman, Donald V. U.S. Constitution. Salem Press Encyclopedia (2015) ) It like
the separation of powers, was built in to the constitutional system as a check on
government powers.
Republicanism is written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay in
1787 to 1788. The first advantage of republicanism is that governmental authority is
delegated to a small group of citizens (By learning the interests and needs of a
diverse number of groups, representatives approach governmental decision making
with a broader perspective). The second is that republican governments can cover a
much larger geographical area than a direct democracy can (This diversity decreases
the likelihood that a single interest will constitute a majority on any given

Morganite Ring Research Paper
If you re on the fence about a Morganite ring, you re not alone. While many women
love the color and the unusual settings that feature Morganite stones, it can be a
tough decision without a real list of the pros and cons of the stone, which we are
providing for you here.
First a little about Morganite. It s a semi precious gemstone in the family of stones
called Beryl. This is the same family that the emerald and aquamarine call home,
too. It s often referred to as a pink emerald for this reason. On the Mohs Scale, the
Morganite falls within 7.5 to 8 like the emerald as well.
When choosing a Morganite, it s an incredibly personal decision. Forums like
Wedding Bee and The Knot are full of happy women who have Morganite rings and
have never once regretted their decision. They re also women who researched ... Show

Some wearers report that they have to clean it twice a week to keep the stone
looking sparkly and beautiful. Others have reported that they don t have to clean the
stone when they make sure to remove it when applying hand lotion. Luckily, the
jewelry is easy to clean. A soft toothbrush and soapy water will do the trick.
Needs a Sturdy Setting
While the stone is a 7.5 on the Mohs Scale, that s more than a few points below the
strength of a diamond. The edges of the Morganite stone could easily chip if it s
banged around on a daily basis. This requires a protective setting around the
Morganite. A stunning alternative to a prong setting is to use a halo of diamonds to
protect the pink stone.
Varying Quality
The quality of the stone can dictate the price. There is no certification from GIA to
protect the customer, but some have other ratings to help the customer make a
decision based on the quality. You want one that doesn t have visible inclusions. Be
wary of a stone that is incredibly cheap since it s likely to have flaws.

Issues with Domestic Violence Essay
Domestic violence is a complex issue that plagues society regularly. Judicial systems
all over the United States have attempted to create regulations to protect victims of
domestic abuse. Furthermore, scattered scarcely throughout the United States are non
profit and small organizations which attempt to supplement the judicial protection
with additional resources. Nevertheless, domestic abuse seems to be much bigger
than any services these systems can maintain. Victims of domestic violencesuffer with
harmful issues even judicial and non profit systems have yet to overcome and as

Outside of these hours, in severe cases, an Emergency PFA can be applied for,
only to last until closing time of the Family Court s next business day. As stated by
the Philadelphia Courts PFA brochure, if a victim is also denied an emergency PFA,
they once again must wait until the next business day to contact a separate
department for assistance (Family Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association,
2009). Furthermore, the brochure disclaims that the victim should be prepared to
wait your turn , eluding to the fact that the PFA form is about 24 pages, therefore,
may take time to complete with professional assistance (Family Law Section of the
Philadelphia Bar Association, 2009). Once a PFA is issued, as the brochure states, it
is enforced through the police and the violation of its contents may result in up to 6
months prison time and/or a $1000 fine (Family Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar
Association, 2009). This reactionary enforcement of the PFA still leaves the victim
vulnerable to attack prior to the arrival of law enforcement. Additionally, studies show
that legally reporting abuse can often increase the risk of abuse by angering the
abuser and further endangering the victim (About Domestic Abuse, 2004). The
perfect solution might be to hide the victim through some sort of program similar to
the Witness Protection Program, or constant surveillance, but it would be much too
costly for law enforcement to provide direct accompaniment to every
The Price of Unethical Behavior Essays
The Price of Unethical Behavior The Price of Unethical Behavior Tyco
International as a whole was no different any other company in that it contained a
chief executive officer (CEO) that wanted to achieve success. But at some point
that success turned into greed. Dennis Kozlowski began working for Tyco in 1975
and was named the CEO in 1992. Kozlowski had a reputation for being aggressive
in his field and during his tenure at Tyco was named one of the Top 25 Managers
of the Year and became one of the highest paid CEOs (Kaplan, 2009, p. 14). Along
his rise to the top, Kozlowski became subjected to a lavish lifestyle of extravagant

vicarious or observational learning; individuals learn which behaviors are
acceptable and/or unacceptable by observing and imitating others (O Fallon amp;

stemming from the indictment of Kozlowski uncovered similar unethical behavior
among many of the board members. Employees...are not likely to report the
behavior to an authority figure, particularly if the peer is a friend (as cited in O
Fallon amp; Butterfield, 2012, p. 117). Kozlowski handpicked individuals he
trusted and placed them in key positions including Tyco s board of directors. These
strategically placed individuals observed Kozlowski, the chief executive officer and
friend to some, living a lavish lifestyle, and engaged in the same behavior whether
they thought it was right or wrong. Kozlowski s unethical behavior did not happen
over night, his actions became more prominent and confident over time. Gino and
Bazerman (n.d.) found that people are more likely to accept the unethical behavior
of others if the unethical behavior develops gradually over time than if it occurs
abruptly (p. 711). When Kozlowski began working for Tyco, he worked under CEO

Key Themes In The Film Kramer V. Kramer
The movie Kramer v. Kramer is about a man named Billy Kramer, who is left with
his son for 18 months. After those 18 months Kramer devolves a bond with his son
that he didn t have in the past years. After those 18 months Kramer s wife comes to
take the child back by filing for custody. There are a few key themes from the
movie Kramer v Kramer. One of the main themes is the theme about men being
able to take care of children just as good as a female. This movie helped change
America s perspective on the male parent. Another theme of the movie is that the
male should appreciate his wife and all of her house duties. At this time in America
men were more focused on their careers than they were focused on their wives. This
led to depression and other mental illnesses on women at the time. The movie
Kramer v Kramer starts with Bill Kramer coming home to find out that his wife is
leaving him. Kramer s wife leaves him because he is too focused on his work and not
paying enough attention to his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is sending a message to viewers about gender roles, stereotypes, and men s lack
of involvement with children, men lack of sensitivity to their wife s feeling and he is
also sending a message to the judicial system. This film is not neutral because it
focuses on the perspective of the male and really doesn t follow the female s story.
If you are a man watching this movie you feel empathy for Kramer at the end when
he is about to lose his child. Women may feel differently because they can relate to
the perspective of a female more than a male. The film maker had an agenda to
bring this legal issue to the movie screen to hopefully change opinions on the issue.
The issue at the time was that men didn t have a fair chance at winning custody in a
legal dispute. Years after this movie the judicial system realized that the current
system wasn t fair and made laws to eliminate the female
Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique
In The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan presents several arguments that dealt with
the issues of personal engagement and equality that women of the time faced, calling
it, the problem that has no name. Friedan describes an ideal that middle class women
of the 1960s were held to. She highlights that women were chained to kitchens and
their spouses and children, while their dreams of careers and college degrees were
suppressed. These women had goals and dreams, and they wanted more, but as
Friedan describes, it was nearly impossible to break through the feminine mystique.
Friedan argues that the stereotypes, occupations, and marriages that the women held
caused the feminine mystique, however, she misses important structural issues, such...

These women in offices and labs had to put forth tremendous effort to achieve their
career goals, but were left out of Betty Friedan s arguments, quite possibly so that
competitors could not merely claim that housewives were just lazy and taking the
easy way out. Friedan also leaves out that after World War II, jobs were actually
available to anyone who wanted one, women included. The labor force was no
longer restricted to just men. If a woman wanted a job, she was capable of getting
one. At the time The Feminine Mystique was published, two thirds of the women
in America were actually already part of the working class. What it really came
down to was how badly these middle to upper class women wanted to work outside
of their homes. By cutting out most of the working female population, Friedan
neglected to consider the majority of the women who had been able to find a balance
between work and
Beyonce Formation Film Analysis
BeyoncГ© feminism. Black feminism. Empowerment. This is what comes to mind
when the name BeyoncГ© is mentioned. Formation is a powerful, pro black anthem
which gathers black women together through the evident and subliminal use of slang
in the restricted code. This captivating black power anthem riddled in slang terms,
speaks to black women and encourages black women to break the barriers, fight
constraints and to importantly love their melanin as well as never forget their
upbringing. I have chosen both Formation and Flawless as source materials due to the
fact that it epitomises the beauty and struggle, the beauty of the struggle of black
feminism and adversities endured by black women.

Sociolinguistically, in a narrow minded way her ethnicity would equate to being

Okay ladies, now let s get in formation. All in all, BeyoncГ© s Formation is a
reclamation of black femininity from a patriarchal, Eurocentric and white
supremacist ideologies. BeyoncГ© conveys this to black girls through the use of
empowering slang that makes black women feel unstoppable just due to the slang
and the passion of the lyrics. It epitomises unapologetic black femininity. The use
of Ebonics is highly frequent, in order for it to be relatable to black women and it is.
It is because it was performed by a black woman for black women; hence the use of
Ebonics.
Ebonics? Slang? Is it the same thing? It can be perceived and extensively argued that
Ebonics is just slang and not the African Americanstandard vernacular of English.
To blatantly classify Ebonics as slang indicates the pre conceived notions of Ebonics
as it is occasionally related to the restricted code rather than the elaborate code,
simply due to the association of the African American

Motivation In A Pair Of Silk Stockings
Motivations are powerful means to direct one s life and to provide a purpose,
however these motivations can come at a price to those whom are close them. The
authors of each short story support this idea by giving the characters of each story a
motivation that inspires them to improve their lives at the cost of the wellbeing of
themselves or other individuals. Each character made conscious attempt to obtain
what desire most; with a motivationas the primary source that dictates what they do.
In the story, A Pair of Silk Stockings, by Kate Chopin, Mrs. Sommers comes into
the possession of the modern equivalent of 400 dollars. This becomes the prime
motivation for Mrs. Sommers shopping spree over purchasing items her family
desperately needs. Mrs. Sommers is left to balance desires of wealth and luxury
and responsibilities as a mother and wife; only to succumb to her deepest desires
in the form of silk stockings. Mrs. Sommers loses control as she gave into the
temptation that she could not move in the direction of the bargain counter ; she
only worries about herself and the day of luxury her funds could afford her. Just as
quickly as she spent money, she also forgot the plans in her mind she had the night
prior on how she seemed her way clearly toward a proper and judicious use of the
money . For Mrs. Sommers the money was a temporary distraction from a life of
poverty that she replaced with one of riches and luxury; when she saw an opportunity

  • 1. Wuthering Heights Essay Prompts Crafting an essay on the topic of "Wuthering Heights Essay Prompts" can be a challenging endeavor that demands a comprehensive understanding of Emily BrontГ«'s classic novel and the ability to explore various prompts effectively. One of the primary challenges lies in delving into the intricate characters, complex relationships, and the dark, atmospheric setting of Wuthering Heights. Analyzing the psychological depths of Heathcliff and Catherine, navigating the themes of love, revenge, and the supernatural, requires a careful examination of the text. Moreover, the essay must not merely summarize the plot but delve into the underlying symbolism and motifs that BrontГ« weaves throughout the narrative. Unraveling the layers of symbolism in the moors, the houses, and the intricate relationships can be intellectually demanding. It necessitates an insightful interpretation to bring out the profound messages and nuances embedded in the story. Furthermore, responding to specific prompts involves critical thinking and the ability to draw connections between the text and broader themes, historical context, or even contemporary relevance. This adds an additional layer of complexity to the writing process, requiring a nuanced understanding of literary analysis. In addition to the intellectual challenges, maintaining a coherent and well-structured essay is paramount. Organizing thoughts, supporting arguments with textual evidence, and presenting a compelling thesis demand a high level of writing proficiency. Despite these difficulties, the process of crafting an essay on "Wuthering Heights Essay Prompts" can be a rewarding intellectual exercise. It encourages a deeper engagement with the text and fosters analytical skills that extend beyond the literary realm. • 2. Jane Eyre And Bertha s Mental Dispositions Survival of the Luckiest: An Analysis of Jane s and Bertha s Mental Dispositions Madness is a recurring theme in Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Jane Eyre, and Bertha Mason all have both experienced extreme mental distress and reacted in their own unique but similar way. Many scholars have deeply analyzed the symbolic and literal meanings of Bertha s insanity and associating it to the oppressive force of the patriarchy. I argue that along with this, Bertha s insanity serves the hidden purpose of bringing to light Jane s lack of independence and effort that led to her success. The two characters have been placed under similar circumstances. The most notable one is Jane being trapped in the Red Room and Bertha being imprisoned in Thornfield attic for ten years after showing signs of violent insanity. The difference is that Jane s violent outburst against her cousin John Reed was explained from her perspective. She hardly mentions that she was winning their fight in an attempt to play the victim. One can assume that Bertha may have had similar angry feelings towards Rochester because she was somehow trapped in an arranged marriage for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when faced with hardship, Jane is portrayed as having a somewhat delicate psychological state. After being trapped in the dark Red Room for a few minutes, she was startled by a light which gleamed on the wall. Her subsequent response is overly hysterical and most probably self induced, after all she only saw a light on the wall, but then begins to hear the rushing of wings and feel the physical symptoms indicative of a panic attack. When Jane was locked in again she had a species of fit (17). Jane does not seem like a resilient person at any point throughout her journey. Her only show of strength was her shaky adherence to her

Wal Mart works with it s sellers until they feel they have the best quality for their money spent (Hoffman, W. 2006). One example, Wal Mart has an automatic recording system that is in connection with one of their clients which lets Wal Mart know when it is time to re stock product. After notification, the store orders a re supply at the closest Procter and Gamble factory. The product is then transported straight to the branch of the store that separates the product to go to each receiving store. The current plan of operation between this receiving store and Proctor and Gamble creates better coordination which allows Proctor and Gamble to cut its costs giving savings to the buying store (Bolan, C. 2005). Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats in Wal Mart s Operational Planning Wal Mart has established their selves as a market leader by using simple strategy of offering merchandise at lower prices. • 5. Hershey Case Study Case 1: Hershey Christopher Dobbins MBA 710 July 24th, 2012 Dr. Moscato Introduction to Hershey Hershey Foods Corporation is number one in the confectionary foods market. Although many people associate Hershey with chocolate, the company started when founder Milton Hershey decided to produce caramel in 1894.They are most famous for their major candy brands such as Hershey s, Reese s, Kit Kat, Kisses, Twizzlers, Jolly Rancher etc. However, Hershey also sells grocery products including: baking chocolate, chocolate milk, ice cream toppings, cocoa, chocolate syrup, and peanut butter. Competitors are also well positioned in international markets in order to diversify economic stresses of their business environments. Potential Entry of New Competitors In order to enter into the confectionary market and compete with Hershey is impossible. Not only because they are number one of the largest in their industry but because they are well established. Hershey has been doing business for over a century. There is no way for a new entrant to achieve that level of brand awareness and customer brand loyalty. It would also be impossible for an entrant to compete as an economy of scale because of the large amount of start up capital it would require to compete. There is also the issue of technological Know How. As stated earlier Hershey has been doing this sort of business for over a century and is very efficient at what they do. Potential Development of Substitute Products Hershey faces many issues when it comes to substitute products. In the confectionary industry there is a large number of substitute products. If any of Hershey s competitors are delivering more value to consumers through price, quality, or quantity they will lose customers. The only thing that separates Hershey from everyone else is their brand recognition. Maintaining their image, product quality, and competitive pricing is key to avoid losing customers. Bargaining Power of Consumer Consumers have extremely high bargaining power when it comes to Hershey products. As
  • 6. Analyzing Carl Sandburg s Poem The grass isn t always greener on the other side. Not when it covers up the corpses of the forgotten and the desolate. The personification of the grass makes the audience look through a different lens, where they aren t blinded by human perspective. In this poem, the grass levels the playing field and demands to be heard through its commanding and frustrated tone. It gives insight beyond the simplicity of human nature. Carl Sandburg s Grass uses proper nouns, present imperative and interrogatory to demonstrate that humans can t, and more importantly, don t want to learn from their mistakes. Sandburg uses proper nouns to clearly indicate the important diction in the poem. The only names that are included are the names of battlefield sites.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The audience gets to see through the eyes of the grass from the present imperative. It uses strong and demanding words that leave no room for argument and barks out commands that can t be objected to. The grass speaks in clipped and controlled sentences such as, Pile them high...Shovel them under (1 2). Its simplistic in its demands but authoritative. It s the grass s job to cover up the human s mistakes. There isn t ignorance to what is happening. It s fully aware that its mission is to hide the dead and it s secure in its role. As it repeats the same phrase over and over, with no variation, the audience gets a sense that it s been doing this for a long time and therefore desensitized to it. But there is frustration as it says, Let me work (2), as if it s tired of having to do the same thing repeatedly. The grass has lived long enough to know that there will be more bodies it must cover. It is all a part of its routine by now but that doesn t make it less tiring. It s a never ending cycle but it still conforms to its role. It s not thinking about the lives lost but instead of the job it must do. It blames the humans for their disregard of human life and forcing the grass to be a part of

The effects can range from depression to suicide; however, help is available for coping. First of all Suicide yes, suicideit s a very touchy subject for most people, but sexual Harassment can play a role in it. • 8. Plato And Augustine Of Hippo Some of the most famous people of the ancient world were philosophers. These certain individuals became more well known than many war heroes and kings because of the ways in which they thought about, and perceived the world. Historians along with other people became fascinated with their ideas. This resulted in their ideas becoming the foundation for the ways in the world thinks today. Some of these people include Plato, and Augustine of Hippo. These men thought about the ways of the world unlike any others had before them. They were not satisfied with the knowledge that world gave them, and so they continued to ask questions and dig deeper until they were able to find an answer. These two men both lived in times where the people around them were very confused. This lead to both of them being very influential in their separate times. Plato s way of thinking came from his teacher, another great Greek philosopher, Socrates. Plato was born in 427 B.C. and was member of a very wealthy, upper class family in the Greek city state of Athens. He was given the opportunity to study under Socrates and became his disciple. Socrates taught Plato much of his knowledge and wisdom, which resulted in him also becoming a great philosopher. Socrates didn t do any of his own writings, so we can learn about him from what Plato writes about him. Plato was very similar to Socrates in the way that he thought but unlike Socrates, Plato was a teacher as well as a philosopher. He created the

The main connection in these readings is between Malachi 1:14B 2:2B 8 10 and Matthew 23: 1 12. They are both trying to provide a greater message that is still relevant today. Through uncovering the connections between these readings, we are able to find a greater truth that God is trying to get through to us. The main theme is the hypocrisy of the priest, meaning a priest preaches one thing but then behaves differently. In the First reading, Malachi 1:14B 2:2B 8 10, it is really focusing on what priest say versus how they really act. It starts out with

We see these symbols through the ongoing conflict between evolutionism and creationism. While exploring the conflict the reader gains insight into how exactly ones right to think freely is forbidden through the town itself Heavenly Hillsboro . The ideathat ones right to think freely relates to another symbol, the golden dancer. The reader is first introduced to this concept by Drummond when he says, Bert, whenever you see something bright, shining, perfect seeming all gold, with purple spots look behind the paint! And if it s a lie show it up for what it really is! (110). The underlying message is that you should not put faith into something because it appears to be great. This problem arose from the fact that the townspeople thought that creationism was perfect. These beliefs were concrete until Drummond started to pick at them. In a sense the beauty of the horse could be related to the outer shell while the core would be evolutionism. In actuality creationism was this beautiful lie while evolutionism was the ugly truth. This was applied to Brady because although at first it seemed that he was towering over everyone with a built in spotlight in end it proved to be that Brady was nothing but a fraud. The idea of Brady being powerful connects to the golden dancer because although the dancer appeared to have substance like Brady in the end it only broke down. The sources chosen by both the Channel 7 report and my own are central to the story in that they entirely encapsulate the issue, that is, the sources themselves shape the story i.e. the injured/tacked cyclists form the story . They shift the focus slightly to their affects/injuries from the tacks so they have shown what significant event this is but also how we as an audience should understand this to be i.e. bad man/woman throwing tacks is a disgrace look how many people are injured then contrast that with people in powerful positions also being irate, calling for this should stop. The LAPD continues to use racial profiling against mostly African Americans and Latinos. The use of racial profiling by the LAPD prevents the policefrom serving the whole community. The survey also showed that 8% of Blacks and 56% of Whites thought the criminal justice system treated Blacks equally (Chaney 483). The survey shows that Blacks are less trusting of the justice system than Whites because of stereotypes and racial profiling. Because the LAPD uses racial profiling, racial profiling causes Blacks to not want to work with police because the LAPD is telling the African American community that the LAPD does not trust the African Americans. When the LAPD uses racial profiling, it sends a message that Whites are already assumed to be law abiding citizens, whereas Blacks and Hispanics are assumed to be associated with criminal activities. Although people may say that racial profiling is justified if it is an effective way of catching criminals if race or ethnic characteristics help the police (Ryberg 79). In other words, police will arrest more possible criminals. However, this causes police to search for individuals who fit the profile and over look people who don t fit the profile. Because of police targeting certain racial communities for certain crimes, the police community relationship becomes disrupted (Dunn 561 4). Suddenly cities began to overflow with new cultures and ethnicities that gave communities vibrant characteristics and new life. People were able to access modern conveniences and socially network among thousands of individuals, all within one city. The economics of the city allowed for greater production and a thriving business system that promoted politics and business. Products from all over the world could be accessible somewhere in the vast cities that expanded across the United States. However, even from the beginning of this glorious migration to cities, inequality was embedded in the social system of stigmas and prejudice for minority populations (Gottdiener, M., Hutchison, R., Ryan, M., 2015). As wealth and prosperity consumed the dominating Caucasian population, inequality and disadvantage settled over minorities such as Blacks and Latinos. Quickly, racial and ethic groups divided into segregated communities within urban societies inner cities. The pseudo blanket of togetherness , as one community, was hiding the disadvantages and biases that limited the growth of minority groups in economics, society, and social mobility. Limitations were set by the dominating social groups that encouraged discrimination and prejudice towards minorities (Gottdiener, 2015). In what ways do the writers we ve read play on those stereotypes? Some of the common misconceptions is that indigenous writers are that they could not speak English, uneducated, all lived in teepees, and their medicine was primitive. The writers that we have read about dealt with these stereotypes was by including hints and lines that these stereotypes are false. Lullaby by Leslie Marmon Silko has a line about where the Indians stayed showing that they did not live in teepees. In this story they lived in a boxcar shack where the rancher let the Indians live (pg 1545). Pawn Shop by Sherman Alexie is a very short work that demonstrates that Indians are civilized. The man in the story goes into a bar looking for all of his friends but can not find them so he leaves after the bartender gives him a free drink for all of his troubles. I leave, searching the streets, searching storefronts, until I walk into a pawn shop, find a single heart beating under glass, and I know who it used to belong to, I know all of them (pg 1647). Through using this strategy, one can separate the modes of thinking and then apply each mode to the same subject in order to end up with full color thinking on the subject. There is a suggestion that the chemical setting in the brain (neurotransmitter, etc) may be different when one is being positive from when one is being negative, and from one is being creative. If this proves to be so, then there is an absolute need to separate out the different components of thinking in order to do each properly. • 28. Advanced Directive Essay Tennessee law on advanced directives is a document that tells your family, friends, and doctors on how you want to be treated in an emergency. Advance directive can be a document or a living will in which you state the plan of care when you are no longer able to communicate treatment choices or decision. Advance directives is not only for the elderly but it can be at any age even if you are not sick at the time of the document. This document list the details of treatment that you want implemented if a serious incident was to happen. It would tell what interventions should be used in your care. Some of the choices would include a full status code where the patient wants CPR or a do not resistant code can be used for treatment. The client can also have the option of limited interventions with each code status. It would include artificial ventilation or artificial feeding and any type of tubes associated with your treatment. The client can also be specific if he or she wants just medical treatment only including the use of drug therapy. In this paper, we will look at Tennessee law and various... Therefore, it is so important to have an advance directive on file or with the next of kin. You never know when this time will happen but you can be proactive, and be prepared for any situation to
  • 29. Reflection On Career Development A.This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future careerpaths. Some of the specific aspects of career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post secondary options. In this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as well as academic development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self esteem and promotes a sense of self awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will understand that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow them greater options and opportunity post high school graduation. B.In today s world, I feel as though it is very important to incorporate technology into lesson plans. Technology helps keep children engaged and we are now living in a world where technology is all around us. I was able to

It was an eye opening experience that demonstrates the vast number of people that face hunger on a daily basis. It also illustrated the limited control people have over their situation. When first arriving to the event, everyone drew a card to determine what income group they would be in. The proportion of income groups assigned was proportionally equivalent to the spread of wealth in the real world. I was a part of the largest group assigned to the lowest income group. With my low income card, I was allowed to serve myself one small bowl of Ramen noodles. People in the medium income group were able to grab themselves a plate of spaghetti, and the highest income group was served their meal, which was spaghetti and meatballs with cookies. Seeing the proportion of the world that lives below the poverty line was eye opening. The content of the meals also demonstrated the challenges of eating healthy on a low budget. People in the high income group ate a well balanced spaghetti and meatball meal. The low income group ate Ramen noodles, which has very little nutritional value. People who live on a small income do not have the means of obtaining fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods due to the higher cost. For many low income families, fast food becomes an accessible and inexpensive source of meals, but these meals provide

Looking at Jerome, people can visualize a part of Greene s life. Another point needed to mention is that Greene was sent to London for psychotherapy due to his mental and emotional problems (Encyclopedia of world biography, 2017). Just like Greene, Jerome also has mental illness or even depression which is clearly proven by his reaction when he heard about his father s new. Jerome was unfeeling about the death of his father, he even did not cry or surprise at all. Certainly, the imagery of Jerome not only exposes the aspiration of the author but reflect the inmost feelings of him. A fundamental component of [Social Learning Theory] SLT is the notion of vicarious or observational learning; individuals learn which behaviors are acceptable and/or unacceptable by observing and imitating others (O Fallon amp; Butterfield, 2012, p. 118). After those 18 months Kramer devolves a bond with his son that he didn t have in the past years. After those 18 months Kramer s wife comes to take the child back by filing for custody. There are a few key themes from the movie Kramer v Kramer. One of the main themes is the theme about men being able to take care of children just as good as a female. This movie helped change America s perspective on the male parent. Another theme of the movie is that the male should appreciate his wife and all of her house duties. At this time in America men were more focused on their careers than they were focused on their wives. This led to depression and other mental illnesses on women at the time. The movie Kramer v Kramer starts with Bill Kramer coming home to find out that his wife is leaving him. Kramer s wife leaves him because he is too focused on his work and not paying enough attention to his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This film is not neutral because it focuses on the perspective of the male and really doesn t follow the female s story. If you are a man watching this movie you feel empathy for Kramer at the end when he is about to lose his child. Women may feel differently because they can relate to the perspective of a female more than a male. The film maker had an agenda to bring this legal issue to the movie screen to hopefully change opinions on the issue. The issue at the time was that men didn t have a fair chance at winning custody in a legal dispute. Years after this movie the judicial system realized that the current system wasn t fair and made laws to eliminate the female

Friedan describes an ideal that middle class women of the 1960s were held to. She highlights that women were chained to kitchens and their spouses and children, while their dreams of careers and college degrees were suppressed. These women had goals and dreams, and they wanted more, but as Friedan describes, it was nearly impossible to break through the feminine mystique. Friedan argues that the stereotypes, occupations, and marriages that the women held caused the feminine mystique, however, she misses important structural issues, such... These women in offices and labs had to put forth tremendous effort to achieve their career goals, but were left out of Betty Friedan s arguments, quite possibly so that competitors could not merely claim that housewives were just lazy and taking the easy way out. Friedan also leaves out that after World War II, jobs were actually available to anyone who wanted one, women included. The labor force was no longer restricted to just men. If a woman wanted a job, she was capable of getting one. At the time The Feminine Mystique was published, two thirds of the women in America were actually already part of the working class. What it really came down to was how badly these middle to upper class women wanted to work outside of their homes. By cutting out most of the working female population, Friedan neglected to consider the majority of the women who had been able to find a balance between work and

Okay ladies, now let s get in formation. All in all, BeyoncГ© s Formation is a reclamation of black femininity from a patriarchal, Eurocentric and white supremacist ideologies. BeyoncГ© conveys this to black girls through the use of empowering slang that makes black women feel unstoppable just due to the slang and the passion of the lyrics. It epitomises unapologetic black femininity. The use of Ebonics is highly frequent, in order for it to be relatable to black women and it is. It is because it was performed by a black woman for black women; hence the use of Ebonics. Ebonics? Slang? Is it the same thing? It can be perceived and extensively argued that Ebonics is just slang and not the African Americanstandard vernacular of English.
