Essay on Glasgow s Urban Problems and Solutions
Glasgow s Urban Problems and Solutions
* Geog factors led to Glasgow s importance
* Decline in ship building etch, moved due to cheap labour elsewhere
* Slum conditions
* Comprehensive redevelopment? Uphill 1970s what problems with it
* Renovate
* Regeneration
There are several geological factors, which led to Glasgow s importance. Firstly, there were many
nearby coal and iron fields. These are the two essential ingredients required to produce steel,
making Glasgow an ideal place for industry. On top of this, there is a very deep, large river (R.
Clyde) running right into the heart of Glasgow and out the other side. This provoked heavy ship

This included Air, land and water polluting, derelict warehouses and churches, high levels of
graffiti, and also a large amount of traffic congestion. Some houses were in such a poor state, that
they fell down with people living in them, resulting in a number of tragic deaths.
The city had rapidly fallen into a state of inner city decay.
The first step taken by the Councils was to carry out Comprehensive Redevelopment. This
means demolishing and rebuilding slums. Many slums were removed from areas such as
Gorbals, and roads new roads were also built to improve transport links. To re house all of the
people made homeless from the demolishing of the slums, many cheap tower blocks were erected
for people to live in. However these came with their own set of new problems.
They were put up very rapidly, and so they were very badly built. They soon became damp, and
walls started to crumble, and furniture became ruined, and people ill. In extreme cases, the
walls had completely disintegrated. Families were also split up, or fragmented as a result of the
relocations. The tower blocks were also ugly, and it caused people, especially children to become
housebound, as it was very impractical for youngsters to go down to the bottom of a tower block
on their own to play. The tower blocks also brought with them crime, as they are extremely hard to
police.

Reflection About Sports
My life has consisted of many sports. Sports has been a part of my life for a while now every
since I can remember. The sports I played throughout the years has been baseball, football, soccer,
and I ran track. Throughout the years I played these sports has been some challenging times and
injuries that have happened to me.
Injuries and challenges always have an impact on a athletes abilities and there physical and mental
wanting to keep on playing. One challenge I had playing some of these sports is the coaches. Some
coaches you have through your high school or athletic career will help you and assist you. One
coach I had for track was the total opposite of that, instead of helping us, all she would do is
criticize everything that a person would do wrong and ignore the team if they had questions.
She wouldn t help us resolve our problem and I found that as a challenge for me because if I
needed help on some tips for running, she would not help. How I responded to this situation is
by talking to her about the ways she coaches. She didn t respond very well to what I had to say
but at least I stood up and said something. She learned that I didn t like how she was coaching and
that s how I resolved my situation with her. Many individuals tend to become uninterested,
uncommitted, and unmotivated for many reasons. The reasons they have could be resolved very
easily. Some of the reasons I have heard throughout the years is that the training is too hard.
Training is supposed to be hard, you aren t going to be the best unless you train hard. Another
complaint I have heard is that the coaches are mean. Some coaches are mean and some coaches are
mean for a reason. Some coaches that is the only way they know. Pushing athletes to the wall has
been a coaching thought for many years and most coaches I had, went by that mindset. The last
reason I think people become uninterested in sports or physical activity is that there not getting any
results. The fact of the matter is; it is not just working out that s going to get you the results. There
are many factors that go into progressing and getting that result you want. Your diet has a lot to do
with getting that result so you got to make sure you are eating right. Ways that

The Relationship Between Opioid And Dopamine System
The opioid and dopamine systems represent the neurochemical connection between pleasure and
pain. Opioids are important for pleasurable experience . If we observe a hedonic spectrum, we
sould see, that opioids shift it in positive direction : while sweat tastes seem sweater , bitter tastes
and pain seem less aversive. Blocking of opioid mediated signalling results in decreased
pleasantness of rewards. Recent studies have shown, that there is a dissotiation between the way
how Вµ opioid and Оє opioid receptor related signalls modulate the perception of pain.( Вµ and Оє
come from the name of the first discoverd ligand that attach to this receptors: Вµ stands for
morphineand Оє for ketocyclazocine ). The activation of Вµ opioid receptors induces

в– Testing and validating already constructed theories about how and why phenomena occur.
в– Testing hypotheses that are constructed before the data are collected.
в– Can generalize research findings when the data are based on random samples of sufficient size.
в– Can generalize a research finding when it has been replicated on many different populations and
subpopulations.
в– Useful for obtaining data that allow quantitative predictions to be made.
в– The researcher may construct a situation that eliminates the confounding influence of many
variables, allowing one to more credibly establish cause and effect relationships.
в– Data collection using some quantitative methods is relatively quick (e.g., telephone interviews).

Essay on The Evolution of the Modern Guitar
The modern guitar can be easily acknowledged as one of the most influential and renown
instruments in the world. The guitar recognized today has been around for hundreds of years and
it is still leaving a legacy in the musical world. Some early iterations of the guitar dating back as far
as 1400 BC have evolved into what is known as the modern guitarthrough design innovation.
Before the use of synthetic materials in the development of guitars, a guitar was defined as being an
instrument having a long, fretted neck, flat wooden soundboard, ribs, and flat back, most often with
curved sides (citation). The oldest known guitar like instrument that displayed these features was
the string instrument a Hittite bard was holding in a stone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The four course guitar was popular throughout the lute dominated Europe. It was a small bodied
guitar and consisted of ten frets. Those frets were not the kind that of the fixed variety, but instead
were movable since they were made out of gut and tied around the neck. The back of the
instrument tended to be slightly rounded with a distinct ridge up the center like the hull of a boat.
The achieved the feat of phasing out the lute, even if it was only temporarily, but soon its
popularity started to decline giving way for the five course guitar. 16th century players and theorists
believed that the four course guitar had much musical limitations. The instrument underwent series
of alterations to lessen these limitations transforming it to the five course guitar. The first change
was the addition of the fifth course and tuned lower than the fourth course. Also the body of the
guitar was enlarged to accommodate a longer string from 55.5 cm to 63 cm, nearly that of a
modern guitar. Its form retained for the following 200 years. Although the five course guitar
remained popular throughout most of Europe, one instrument specifically renowned in Spain and
Italy greatly influenced the development of the guitar. The Spanish vihuela can be considered as
the seminal influence in the development of the guitar. The Vihuela consisted of six doubled
strings made of gut and had a guitar like body. Its size was comparable to a classical guitar.

Autonomy In Public Spaces
I ll Take You There is an intergenerational, multi site performance, honouring spaces throughout the
city of Memphis, chosen by legendary Stax and Hi Records artists that were meaningful to them in
their coming of age, told through the choreographic lens of school age jookin artists from the New
Ballet Ensemble. These young dancers will also work in collaboration with local urban planners,
historians, folklorists, and police who will act as dramaturgs enabling the dancers to gain deeper
context about the chosen spaces and artists they are working with to create their performance.

They were never aloud on the street in the first place says Deanie Parker during her interview.
That quote stuck with me for some time and led me to dive deeper into the politics of public
space and how it could relate to this piece. The final component to this piece is the definition of
place and lens within the city s legacy and youth culture. The concept of youth having autonomy
in public spaces is nonexistent in american culture. Youth are trained from a young age that
adults control their use of public spaces. Children are welcome in public space as long as an
adult controls how the child interacts. For instance, an adult of teacher is in control of how a
child interacts in the sandbox, the playground and during recess. Once the child enters middle
school and teen years, some autonomy develops which puts adults on edge as they want to control
how youth behave in these spaces. Our culture dictates to youth that they are not allowed to enter
spaces without the accompaniment of an adult. Social order dictates that groups of teenagers are
something to be fearful of. Place is crucial to the development and well being and of young
people. When youth have no public spaces to gather or perform without the risk of being
questioned by police this becomes an issue in the health and vitality of

Crumple Zones Science
Introduction Scientists have made a big impact in car safety by using the role of science. They
have created many ways of increasing the possibility to survive a crash, by testing real car
crashes and simulated car crashes. In this one world essay, I m going to talk about how
scientists have developed crumple zones and have made them work against car crashes.
Crumple zones Crumple zones, is an area in the vehicle, that is designed to absorb the energy of
the impact when crushing, preventing it from being transmitted to the passengers inside the car.
Scientists are still working on many factors that need to be worked on in a crash. For example;
racecars will have more severe impacts than streetcars. Crumple zones are no the same for every
car. The car varies on size and weight, so designers have to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The force always is based on the speed and mass of the car, and the speed and mass of whatever
the vehicle hits. What crumple zones do is that they reduce the force of the crush, so the force
doesn t reach to the passengers. When the car crashes into a stationary object, some force is
transferred to the object. ...... Crumple zones and other parts of the car, are built with special
materials inside, that are designed to be damaged and broken. Crumple zones take the most
force of the crash as possible, so the other parts of the car as well as the passengers, don t suffer
the effects. Designers can t only worry about the impact and the absorption of kinetic energy
when the car crashes; it has to also focus on other areas. If the whole car was made out of
crumple zones, when the car crashes, the passengers will be thrown out . The car has crumple
zones in the front and in the back, meaning that hard and rigid materials design all the other areas,
so that the occupants have a safe crash. Scientists have discovered that airbags are very useful, so
the passenger doesn t jump or crash their face into a hard

Essay about Predicting Voting Behavior
Predicting Voting Behavior
Voting behaviour is increasingly hard to predict because of the variables that ultimately affect it,
these being class, gender, age, ethnicity and regional locality. It is the job of a political scientist to
weigh up these factors along with public opinion on major and current issues such as the Health
Service, Crime etc. In addition to these they will look at past elections and their statistics to
determine the possible result of an imminent election.
Research in the 1950 s and 60 s in Britain and the USA indicates that all the factors that might
contribute to a persons voting behaviour such as religion, gender, age and regional locality; social
class was by far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However this was put under massive dispute throughout the sixties and early seventies until
nineteen seventy nine where the conservatives were found to have major success in the general
elections because of high amounts of working class votes and the theory was suggested correct.
Whatever the reasons the Conservatives won the working class vote the theory did not account for
the drop in middle class voters.
Ultimately unless the parties fall into a trend whereby one is totally right wing and the other left
wing it will be very hard to predict or stereotype people to a political party just because of their
class or position in society.
Gender is out of the five categories, the most hard to base any conclusions from since the nineteen
ninety seven elections. This is because from the statistics there is very little gender differences in
party choice. Previously gender was attributed for one of the reasons for party choice; the majority
of women voting in the UK in the four elections between nineteen seventy nine and nineteen ninety
two voted Conservative than they did for any other party. This is slightly ironic because the
Conservative party was in fact the worst represented in terms of female MP s out of the major
forerunners being Labour and The Liberal Democrats. The complete disappearance of the

How Does Global Warming Affect The Arctic
Our earth is undergoing a lot of changes caused by Global warming. This is a world issue that
impacts the whole earth. Polar regions are very sensitive to these changes in temperatures. Global
warming is affecting climate change on Arctic species and is likely to be felt globally. The
average temperature increase annually in the arctic is almost twice the global average. This is
causing any problems, some of which will be discussed further on.
Global Warming is affecting the climatein the Arctic in many drastic ways. Animals such as the
Polar bear are having their habitat disappear at an alarming rate. This is causing many of them to

Arctic sea levels are increasing by a lot and are predicting to change global climate and
precipitation patterns. Melting ice is expected to cause ocean water to speed up and oceans water
to rise. This will cause some areas of land to be affected from the rise in sea level.
Global warming is caused by human activities like burning fossil fuel, deforestation and farming.
This is also known as the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect has much stronger results in
the arctic as small changes in temperature have very strong reactions. While average temperatures
have increased, the warming at the pole has more than doubled the global average. According to
NASA, arctic sea ice is now declining at a rate of 13.2% per decade.

The Six Different Type of Energy
This report is on energy. Energy is the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or
mental activity. What that was saying is that for everything you want to do, you have to have the
physical ability and the mind set to do it. Energy and work are the two most important things in
human society. Work is activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a
purpose or result. That means, is you want something done, DO IT. Kinetic energyis energy that a
body possesses by virtue of being in motion. Potential energyis the energy possessed by a body by
virtue of its position relative to others, stresses within it, electric charge, and other factors.
Mechanical energy is mechanical energy is the sum of potential energy and kinetic energy. It is the
energy associated with the motion and position of an object.
The six different types of energy are thermal, electrical, nuclear, chemical, sound, and light.
Thermal push is the part of the total electric potential energy and kinetic energy of an object or
sampling of matter that results in the system temperature. Electrical vigor is the energy carried by
moving electrons in an electric music director. It cannot be seen, but it is one of our most useful
strains of energy because it is relatively easy to transmit and use. All topics consist of atom, and
every atom contains one or more electrons, which are always moving. The energy released during
nuclear fission or fusion, extrasensory perception. When

Battlefield Vs. Call Of Duty Game
BATTLEFIELD VERSUS CALL OF DUTY
The Battlefield franchise is one of the top selling shooter games of all times. It is best known for
its real life recreation of all out war. This game is a first person shooter team based game. Almost
like an arcade game with the guns on the side of it. Since 2002 the game has been loved by those
who consider themselves game players. Battlefield was different from any other game you could
know.
Most shooter games are individual based, but what makes Battlefield different is you must work
with a team. For example, flag football is a team based game you need everyone doing their part
to capture the flag. No one has ever seen a game which required team effort online with random
people before in the history of video gaming. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

individuals within the industry. Activision is the company that created this game. This franchise is
known for its fast paced online multiplayer games. Multiplayer is where you play with other players
that have the same game as you (It is like playing chess online).
With Call of Duty, you can talk to a person constantly with no wait within the game which
requires a microphone? Nevertheless, with Call of Duty you are a lone wolf by yourself
without anyone actively playing or interaction with others. You as a player must decide what s
best for you even though you are on a team. Think about the saying Every man for themselves

Examples Of Lies And Deception In Much Ado About Nothing
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING THEME OF LIES AND DECEIT
Lies and cheating is ever present in Much Ado About Nothing... but the characters never expect it.
This is one gullible crew.
Deception appears as the tool of villains to spread chaos and unhappiness. However, it s also a
device used by friends to improve each other s lives. Everyone from scoundrels to nice daddy s girls
to clergymen use deviousness so deception doesn t come with a value judgment, it s neither
absolutely good or absolutely bad. Whether deception is okay or not depends on the intentions of
the deceivers if the intention is to promote happiness, then the deceiver is a good friend, but if the
deceiver intends harm, then he s a nasty jerk.

Deception is inherently bad. It is used in this play to sometimes bring out positive results, but those
outcomes are actually artificial, and easily undone.
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING THEME OF LOVE
Ah l amour.
Love in Much Ado About Nothing is a super complicated topic. First of all, none of the characters
explicitly seek love out love is always second to something else in this play. Love might be the
inadvertent result of hatred, or the incidental fact of marriage. Though the play is about romance,
the plot seems to highlight the fact that love is only one of many factors that goes into a love affair.
Love often comes with difficulty or complication from outside circumstances (like a scheming
villain), but it s just as often thwarted by lovers themselves.
Questions About Love
1.How does loyalty in the play work as a kind of love? Which characters are loyal, and to whom?

Impacts of an Aging Population
The impacts of an aging population on a country
An aging population is where the population of a country is of a high elderly dependence. There
are three main ways to split the ways they are sorted and these are Social, the ways in which the

affect the politics of a country, and finally, economic, the ways in which the elderly population

age for women is going to be raised from 60 to 65 between 2010 and 2020 and the pension age for

The government also plans to make it easier for older people to get jobs by controlling age

Chemiluminescence Lab Report
Chemiluminescence is a reaction well known to those who enjoy crime scene shows. Luminol is
first synthesized in the experiment. Then, the crude luminol produced is oxidized to release
photons giving off a light blue glow in a dark room. In a crime scene show, the blood acts as a
catalyst aiding in the oxidation of luminol and hydrogen peroxide resulting in the blue glow 1.
Introduction:
As seen on any crime scene investigation show, such as CSI Miami, traces of cleaned up blood
left behind can been seen with the spray of a chemical called luminol. When applied on an area, it
lights up where blood has been due to a chemical reaction. Chemiluminescence it is also found in

If the amounts of luminol produced would be much less if the amounts of NaOH and acetic acid
were changed. This is due to less acetic acid being able to form the precipitate or the crude luminol.
3.In the luminol synthesis reaction, why was cold water used for rinsing the filtration step? How
would the efficiency of the filtration be affected by hot water used instead?
Cold water was used because it does not dissolve solids as readily as hot water does. Using hot
water in the filtration step would result in some of the crude luminol being dissolved. This would
be less efficient since product is being removed and would give less of a product yield.
4.When isolating the solid through precipitate and vacuum filtration, why was the solid not rinsed
with a solvent like ethyl acetate or dichloromethane?
Water is used because it is not an organic solvent. Ethyl acetate and dichloromethane are both
organic solvents and would dissolve the crude luminol product. This like adding hot water would
reduce the yield of the product and reduce efficiency.

The Many Identities of Hamlet in Hamlet by William Shakespeare
In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, the protagonist, Price Hamlet, uses several ways to
defend himself against his oedipal desires, his animosity towards his uncle, as well as his own inner
conflict . Hamlet s hatred towards Claudius stems from two crimes committed; Claudius murder of
his brother and his incest with Hamlet s mother. Because of the seriousness of both crimes, as well
as the fact that both persons affected are closely related, there is evidence of an interrelation
between both of the crimes; which can further explains Hamlet s reaction. Following his father,
King Hamlet s death, his mother, Gertrude proceeds to marry his Uncle Claudius; this causes ...

Furthermore, the idea of sexuality being connected with Hamlet s mother can be seen in
comparison to Hamlet s association between Ophelia and erotic desire. In essence, Hamlet is
reverting to a more infantile mind frame when associating Gertrude with Ophelia, subconsciously
trying to defend himself against his unresolved Oedipal desires towards his mother. However, when
King Hamlet dies and Gertrude remarries, Hamlet s repulsion of his mother is transmitted to
Ophelia, causing Hamlet to completely reject her.
Hamlet s oedipal desires for his mother, Gertrude, emerge following his father s death. However,
contrary to the natural course of the Oedipus Complex, where Hamlet would replace his father,
Gertrude marries another man; namely, his Uncle Claudius. In this respect, Claudius now not
only represents Hamlet s object of vengeance, but represents Hamlet, himself. The familial image
of his father s own brother being intimate with his mother reflects Hamlet s own incestuous
desires as well; this can be seen as the root of Hamlet s inner conflict. By killing his Uncle, he
would be subconsciously killing himself as well. For this reason, Hamlet has extreme difficulty
carrying out the murder of his uncle. Throughout the play Hamlet searches for excuses to
procrastinate the deed of killing his father s murderer. His use of cowardice, doubt of his uncle s
guilt and even the

Conflict In Frankenstein
The line I will be with you on your wedding night (Shelly 315) is one the most significant lines in
Frankenstein, and has captivated many people of multiple generations. The book Frankenstein by
Mary Shelley takes place in the then present late 1700 s to early 1800 s, and is about the struggle
between man and his creation. The book gives insight on two characters Victor and his creation.
Throughout the story they often suffer alone from society, and criticize each other for it. In the
end after a series of events, Victor tries to avenge his loved one s murders by his creation, but dies
of exhaustion. The creature comes to mourn to accept that he ll die alone too, even though Victor
had abandoned him with such a horrifying presence and did... Show more content on

The creature tried to introduce himself to the family he had spied on by approaching the blind
man first. Author Telgen Diane goes into depth of the situation by pronouncing One day when
only the old man is in the cottage, the monster enters, introducing himself as a weary traveler. He
discovers that because the old man is blind, he is not repulsed by him. The monster then tells his
tale of misery and loneliness; the old man responds sympathetically. When the others return,
horrified at his monstrous appearance, they chase him. From seclusion in the forest, the next night
he emerges to burn down the cottage. He then flees toward Ingolstadt, determined on vengeance
(Telgen 183). The point is that the creature suffers externally when the people around him are
prejudice to him meaning that they do not understand the creature and fear him, so they revolt
back with either fear or violence. Even when the creature had been heroic at times, society still
revolts due to his monstrous appearance. Harold Bloom references this when explaining While
enjoying these feelings of restoration, he came across a young girl who slipped and fell into a
rapid stream, and succeeded in saving her life. But, alas her guardian, terrified to see her with a
hideous creature, shot and wounded the monster. This was then the reward of my benevolence!
(Bloom 49). He suffers this fate whenever he is seen by any human in Frankenstein. This
xenophobia of society will drive the creature into a vengeful blood lust killing all of Victor s
loved ones. Therefore, the ridicule of society is the cause of Victor and his creature s external

Kitagawa Utamaro And Paul Gauguin s Use Of Color Techniques
Describe specifically what the term arbitrary color means, a color used at random for objects that
have a common color, such as, a tree has green leaves, but we choose to make the leave purple or
making the sun black, the clouds green, or the sky yellow, etc.
Who was the first artist to employ the technique? I would have to say Katsushika Hokusai,
Kitagawa Utamaro, and AndВЇo Hiroshige had a role in the technique. The technique was used in
AndВЇo Hiroshige color woodcut print, ( Moon Pine at Ueno from One Hundred Views of Famous
Places in Edo ), (Pg. 27), because of the color use. The colors seem to be out of place, such as, the
sky s appearance being that of black, blue, and green, also the tree appears to have a redder tent
than what we would normally see in nature. Hiroshige and other Japanese artists had gotten young
artist thinking about color, arbitrary color, and pure color. One of the artist that took the color
techniques from color woodcut prints and Japanese prints was Paul Gauguin. Gauguin was truly
the first to employ arbitrary color techniques, which can be seen in his (Vision after the Sermon),
(Pg. 60), with vivid red paint in the back ground, splashes of green and blue tenting on the nuns
faces, these colors are not known in nature, and they are non descriptive. It just isn t natural to see
these colors placed this way. Thus, Gauguin s paintings influenced younger artist and affected their
ideas in the Nabis and Fauve periods. Later movements adopted this

Mountain Pine Beetle Research Paper
Our forests are extremely vital and important to our world and society. They supply us with
oxygen and other essiential human needs. However, the number of trees in our forests has been
decreasing at an alarming rate due to human interaction and other factors. There have been
desperate attempts in order to increase the number of trees in our forests as well. Scientists have
experimented with biotechnology in order to test factors that affect trees. In this paper, I will
review loblolly pines, and mountain pine beetles, and discuss which will have more of an effect on
the number of trees in our forests.

However I believe that the affects of mountain pine beetle will have a more major impact on the
number of trees in our forests
The ideas of cloning and regeneration of loblolly pines discussed by Li and Gupta are effective
and work. However, we as a society simply don t have the time, money, research or manpower to
be constantly regenerating clones and cloning loblolly pines. The process also has negative effects
on our environment and our health. Loblolly pines can also only be cloned or regenerated in small
numbers and it s not enough to compensate for the number of dying trees. Due to these reasons, the
idea of cloning and regeneration of loblolly pines is not practical and is not enough to compensate
for the mass number of dying trees.
However, Mountain Pine Beetles are extremely destructive and devasting to forests. Even though
there is no direct correlation between Mountain Pine Beetles and forest fires, they are still
destructive nevertheless. Mountain Pine Beetles do have the time, and manpower to continue to
cause mass deforestation. Another reason is that there have been attempts to clone these beetles.
Keeling attempted to clone the particle that triggers the attack of the mountain pine beetles. With
even more potential beetles, these beetles will most definitely continue to wreak havoc across the

How Did China s Growth Have Contributed To The British Museum
According to the British Museum, growth can be attributed to two main factors: the support of the
general population and royal patronage. Introduced by merchants during the 6th century AD
Buddhism had spread throughout Cambodia and to China during 50 AD. Another strong hold that
allowed the religion of Buddhismto blossom was the conversion of Ashoka to Buddhism. By
broadcasting his beliefs on inscribed stones and pillars Ashoka gave Buddhism the royal support it
needed to thrive, he also sent Buddhist missionaries all over Asia making it as far as Syria.
Eventually Buddhist philosophical schools began to rise and teach the religion, such as two
prestigious schools in China, Hua Yen and T ien t ai.

explores the story of Maurya and her family. Her husband and her sons had been victims to the sea

beliefs .Synge s work draws inspiration from the countryside as he spent a substantive part of this
time in Aran Islands.Synge went to these islands at the suggestion of W.B. Yeats and spent a long
time there, studying the lives of the islanders and making a note of the language spoken by
them. While on the Aran island of Inishmaan, Synge heard the story of a man from Inishmaan
whose body washed up on the shore of the island of Donegal, which inspired Riders to the Sea.

Catch-22, by Joseph Heller
Catch 22 is a story about the different personalities that can be involved in a war. Out of all the
different archetypes, the three I ve chosen are John Yossarian, Albert Tappman, and Milo
Minderbinder, although, not in that order. The first character being analyzed is Yossarian, the
unwilling hero of this book. Although the book labels Yossarian
as the main character, he constantly
tries to coward out of going to battle. The second character that will be described is Milo

The quote above describes the relationship with Colonel Cathcart, in which Cathcart has a
worrying doubt about Yossarian and his role in the squadron. Yossarian complains to Doc
Daneeka about Colonel Cathcart s dictum regarding the mission count during every visit to the
medical tent. Cathcart s opinion about Yossarian also dawns upon the other men who start to
wonder about the man with that name and who he actually is. One of the main points within the
story is when the soldiers question Yossarian during the death of Lt. Mudd, whom the men
continuously call the dead man in Yossarian s tent (Heller 166). A character that changes
Yossarian completely about war is Snowden. After Snowden s death, Yossarian is given a medal
of honor for fighting through that battle, but unlike the other men, Yossarian shows up in a
disorderly fashion. He realizes that he doesn t want to be in a war like atmosphere anymore and
starts to long for his trips throughout Italy. It is after these trips that Yossarian tries to weasel his
way out of the squadron by feigning sicknesses and pleading for Doc Daneeka to claim him insane.

Growth Plate Injury Research Paper
5 of the Most Painful Growth Plate Injures Affecting Young Athletes
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that more than 2 million children
are treated each year for sports and recreation related injuries. Sports participation provides many
benefits for younger athletes, but unfortunately, injuries do occur. This means doctors have to treat
these injuries differently than they do for adults.
Why? Children and adolescents have growth plates, which are the areas of soft tissue near the ends
of the long bones in their arms and legs. Because these are the last portion of the bones that harden
(ossify), they are particularly vulnerable to injury. For instance, the same type of accident that might
cause an adult to have an ankle sprain can be a growth plate fracture in a child.

Your child s treatment will depend on how severe the growth plate injury is and the vast majority
of kids do recover without any long term consequences. Many of these injuries are minor which
means that doctors will usually suggest that they limit their activities and not bear any weight on
the affected limb. Most of the time this can be accomplished by wearing a cast, splint or brace over
the area to prevent any movement. In these cases, this may be the only treatment necessary but with
fractures, immediate care is extremely important. This is so that Doctors can:
Provide immobilization using a cast or splint
Use manipulation or surgery to unite the bones into the correct position; which can depend on
where and how serious the injury is and, the patient s age
Use strengthening and range of motion exercises to improve movement, but only after the fracture

Research Paper On Sandra Day O Connor
Kaylee Mackey 10/1/17 Liebrecht p. 5 Sandra Day O Connor I think that Sandra Day O Connor
was a big part of history and feminism. She is one of the biggest female figures ever. Without
her, a lot of women wouldn t have the inspiration to be as great as they can and do whatever they
want in life. She inspired so many people to get where they are. Sandra Day O Connor was the
first woman to join the supreme court. She was born in El Piso, Texas on March 26th, 1930.
She grew up in Arizona on the family s ranch and wrote a memoir about her childhood called
Lazy B: Growing up on a Cattle Ranch in the American SouthWest in 2002 when she was still
working for the Supreme court. When she was old enough to go to school, she moved in with
her grandmother in El Paso, where she was born, to go to a private school. She went to Stanford
University and was on the Stanford Law review then graduated, third in her class in 1950 with a
bachelor s degree in economics. She got her law degree two years later, in 1952. Sandra Day O
Connor obviously worked really hard to get where she got and she was very smart because she was
in near the top of her class at Stanford where everyone is very serious and competitive. She was
above most boys which proves that a girl can be just as smart as a boy. A long time ago women
weren t even allowed to go to school and here she is graduating at Stanford at the top of her class.

How far do the sources suggest that Mary Seacole was a great help to the men in the Crimea ?
Mary Seacole is praised in both sources 1 and 2, but in source 3 it seems that Nightingale
disagrees in terms of her method of helping the men, although she did some good. Source 1 and
2 both agree that she was a great help but for different reasons. Source 1 is agreeing to this
mainly because of the fact that it is written by Sir John Hall who I Head of the Army Medical

s opinion. This source is linked to the other 2 sources because it is at the time which Seacole was
getting a rapturous reception and in the other sources Seacole is getting praise but also all three
sources state somewhere in their content that she did help the men in the Crimea. Source 3 has
both fragments of agreement and disagreement and it differs from the other sources because it
doesn t completely agree with the other 2 sources and it can be seen as an emotionally charged
letter, as Seacole is getting so much praise in England, so it could suggest she s jealous of the
reception she s receiving back in England. As well as this it seems that she is the odd one out,
because everyone else has a huge love for Seacole apart from her. Nightingale also adds criticisms
to her methods of helping the men as she calls Seacole s hotel a bad house and she says that she
introduced much drunkenness and improper conduct which could be showing her jealousy as she
dismisses the fact that she helps the men, but she is ery picky on her methods. In source 3,

The Museum Of Natural History
Museums are information organizations, that is, they are about giving the most up to date
information to their patrons. No matter how well their organization, commercially, is wrap it up
that part of them remains the same. From the two museums that I visited, the Henry Ford Museum

differences between them, however, it is the equivalences that I want to focus on as they are what
bind them. The three areas of focus are community, academic outreach, and the stories they share.
Creating a strong and vibrant community is important to museums. Dr. Ronquillo, a leader a
Philippine Archeology museum, so elegantly wrote, A properly planned community museum can
express and elucidate the community s cultural wealth through the appropriate presentation and
exhibition of their important natural and cultural heritage (Ronquillo, 1992). It is the community
that keeps generation after generation coming back to see the history that us humans, the earth, and
beyond have gone through. The journey of information, for most, begins as a child during our time
at school. For the Museum of Natural History, this is quite literal as the museum is a part of the

According to UK s Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG), a fetus cannot feel
pain before 24 weeks of gestation because the connections in the fetal brain are not fully formed,
as a result it is difficult to say that fetus experiences pain because a fetus cortex has not, yet been
fully developed (Jost). However, for example, many studies have shown that early second
trimester babies respond to invasive procedures performed at 18 20 weeks with an elevated
heart rate and secretion of stress hormones (Jost). This means that there is evidence that supports
the theory that fetuses can experience pain or sense of feeling within 18 20 weeks of gestation.
In addition, Bjorn Merker, a Swedish neuroscientist who does extensive research on children
born without fully developed cortexes, has suggested that the cortex may not be necessary for
the perception of pain (Jost). Therefore, it is believed that fetuses can experience pain even as
earlier than 20 weeks of development and as a result when a woman is committing abortion, she is
causing the fetus inside her womb to feel pain, and is ending the life of a living organism.
Although pro choice advocates believe that abortion cannot cause harsh side effects, it has been
said that an abortion can lead to serious side effects. According to the American Congress of
Obstetricians and Gynecologists, abortions can cause side effects like, for example, infertility,
uterine bleeding to prolonged

fix most if not all problems. Marshall wanted equality for all citizens. In his life he strived for
equality, especially for colored people and whites. I believe that Thurgood Marshall s greatest
influence on the United Stateswas him fighting for rights to not be segregated. Marshall fought to
be able to be in the same room as whites along with other things being taken away from colored
people. Marshall being colored himself knew a lot about being segregated from the whites.
He influenced the people of the United States by telling them that they shouldn t allow segregation
any more. Marshall said In recognizing the humanity of our fellow

Simi Strings Orchestra Essay
On Sunday 28 June 2015, I had an opportunity to participate in listening a strings orchestra in Simi
Valley. It named Simi Strings Orchestra that was located in the Simi Valley Public Library in the
afternoon about one hour at 3:30 p.m. This was my first time to be there and to be a listener in this
strings orchestra, it was a great experience in my life. In this concert, Simi Strings Orchestra, there
were twelve performers, who were teenagers and adults, in the ensemble. Most of them were
adults, which some of them were college professors and professionals, who sometimes performed in
a small orchestra. There were only two college students who had ever been participated in their high
school and college orchestras. The instrumentation of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This work based on the familiar folk song The Irish Washerwoman, and it was a popular folk
song in that era. In this work, I like the violins voices the most because they made me felt relax
and fun with their various pitches. Jupiter was composed by Gustav Holst, who was an English
composer, between 1914 and 1916. It was represented about 1918 or in the Early Twentieth
Century. Jupiter was one of seven movements of Gustav Holst s work, The Planets. And each
movement, including Jupiter was named after a planet of the Solar system. Ashokan Farewell
was composed by Jay Ungar in 1982 or in the Romantic Era. It was served as a goodnight or
farewell waltz at the annual Ashokan Fiddle Dance Camps. Moreover, it was also used in the
Civil War Documentary series in 1984. Korobushka was composed by Nikolay Nekrasov in a
nineteenth century. It was a Russian folk song that told of a meeting between a peddler and a
girl, and it described the peddler and the girl s haggling over goods in a veiled metaphor for
courtship. Its rhythms conveyed in slower pitches and sad sounds for matching with sadness of the
love story between the peasant girl and the young

The Voyager Project
Voyager 1, launched over 35 years ago, reached the barrier between our solar system and the vast
unexplored interstellar space beyond in August 2012. Imagine the stories that probe could tell!
As the Titan Centaur rocket boosters rattle to life beneath it the intrepid robot takes off for a
record breaking 40 year trip alone in space, going places no man made thing has gone before.
There will be tales of Jupiter and Saturn s fascinating moons and atmospheres, the amazing
discoveries concerning solar and galactic wind at the edge of the heliosphere, solar intensity and
power production. Voyager 1 will explain basics of gravity assists, launching from Earthin the ...

Many questions posed by scientists about Saturn s atmosphere had gone unanswered for many
years, because, like with Jupiter, photos from Earth had not been of high enough quality. The
Voyager probes were able to fix that. Information relayed back to Earth from the two probes (which
reached Saturn nine months apart, Voyager 1 first in 1980, Voyager 2 in 1981) helped scientists get
a much better understanding. Though the atmosphere was expected to be quite similar in
composition to the Sun and to Jupiter, Saturn s atmosphere was actually quite different. There was
significantly less Helium in Saturn s outmost atmosphere, leading to many interesting conclusions,
including that heavier Helium was sinking lower in the atmosphere (Voyager Saturn, NASA).
Saturn was also determined to have a lighter density than any other planet and is, in fact, less dense
than water. The varying composition of the atmosphere also leant ideas to why Saturn was far
warmer than expected, calculating temperature based solely on solar energy, registering between
10 degrees Kelvin at the poles and 143 Kelvin closer to the equator, according to Voyager 1 s
radio measurements (these also measured pressure) (Voyager Saturn, NASA). One of the other
things determined by the Voyager probes was the extreme speed of the wind on Saturn. Wind
blows at speeds of about 500 meters per second near the equator (Voyager Saturn,

price. Effective and efficient, time saving, nicely designed, as well as affordable, both
StartupLister and Promotehour are use useful tools that will spare you the effort of manual
submission and help get the word out quicker (and to more relevant people). In addition to
increased traffic, improved page rank and SEO, being listed on multiple startup website directories
will also result in receiving relevant feedback from early adopters, so whichever of the two you
may choose, you won t make a mistake.
While StartupLister and Promotehour share the advantages of easier promotion, they also have the
same downsides, which chiefly concern their unsuitability for smaller local businesses and/or non
English speaking environments. Although these services are undoubtedly capable of boosting
massive traffic and spreading the word out, this only refers to startups that are competing on an
international level. But when it comes to locally focused companies, as well as the ones that
operate outside of the English speaking markets, due to the language barrier things are quite more
complicated, as these entrepreneurs primarily ought to be noticed in their own countries. Should
you consider launching a startup that aims a specific local market in Europe, in others words, a

Obstructive Sleep Apnea ( Osa ) Essay
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a major health problem, as more than 22 million adults in the
U.S suffer from OSA.1 The prevalence of moderate to severe OSA in older adults aged 65 and
over is twice as high as that in middle aged adults.2 Unfortunately, estimates suggest that 85% of
individuals with moderate to severe OSA remain undiagnosed.3 Individuals with untreated
moderate to severe OSA are at a greater risk for depression (DEP), mild cognitive impairment
(MCI), and dementia compared to individuals with no OSA. In OSA, repetitive intracranial
blood flow surges during apneic episodes cause disturbances in microvascular functions,
resulting in hypoperfusion4 6 and poor cerebral vasomotor reactivity.7 9 Hypoxemia promotes
the development of cerebral small vessel disease (C SVD).10 13 Repeated rapid alternations
between hypoxia and reoxygenation cause oxidative stress,14,15 which alters blood brain barrier
functions and leads to the formation of C SVD.16 18 The consequences of C SVD are 1)
disruption of neuronal activity in regions involved in the regulation of mood and cognition
11,19,20 and 2) reduction of prefrontal and frontal lobe vascular perfusion,10,21 23 which causes
neuronal metabolic deficiencies that may lead to synaptic loss and neuronal damage.24,25 The
progression of C SVD is now known to be associated with new onset depression,26 MCI,27,28 and
an increased risk for dementia.27,29,30 Based on this supporting evidence, we hypothesize that C
SVD may mediate

Difference Between The Golden Compass Movie Vs Movie
2)From The Golden Compass to The Golden Compass : A narratological study of novel and film
adaptation written by Anna Hagström in June 2011. This study show the similar, and the
difference between the novel, and the film. Anna stated that she will show what do in the novel,
and in the film have in common, and what their differences are because she thought that there must
be reasons why the film which is the adaptation of the novel is quite distinct from its original
version (the novel). The theory she used to analyze why both version are conveyed differently is
the film adaptation theory taken from narratology. There are three characters which Anna chose to
compare between the novel, and the adaptation version including Mrs. Coulter, Lord Asriel, and
Lyra because all of them... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Golden Compass written by Sigrid Ingeborg Solhaug. This paper is all about how Philip
Pullman constructed Lyra to be a hero in the fantasy novel instead of inventing a male hero.
Sigrid claimed that Lyra is one hundred percent similar to other male heroes. It is argued that
although Lyra is a girl, but she does not wait for someone to help her like other female
protagonists in other fantasy stories. Instead, she is carefully constructed to be a string minded
hero who goes to rescue her male friend in the north. She is not like other girls who wait for
someone who will come to help her friend, but she decided to do it herself inspite of knowing that
there are several dangerous tasks waiting for her ahead. On the other hand, the male character
including her friends Billy, and Roger are deconstructed to be just common boys taking no roles in

William Shakespeare s Henry V Essay
William Shakespeare s Henry V
Shakespeare s, Henry V, was written in the late sixteenth century, this composition will focus upon
how Shakespeare portrayed Henry V, using factual knowledge and Shakespeare s own
interpretation. I will look at the character, language, structure and history of the play.
Most Shakespearian, historical, plays were based upon Holinshead s Chronicles, these were
mostly true but often Shakespeare adjusted the figures and facts to emphasise parts of his play s,
and create tension and drama, such as when he is attempting to woo Katherine, to make a more
interesting play. Many of Shakespeare s plays were historical, based upon actual happenings. Henry
V was one of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the play the Bishop reminds Ely that Henry was once wild and offensive, The
breath no sooner left his fathers body but that his wildness, mortified in him seemed to die too: yea,
at that very moment consideration, like an angel came and whipped the offending Adam out of him.
However Ely refers to the good in Henry, The strawberry groweth underneath the nettle Ely is
saying that Henry was still growing, surrounded by people who are bad, but is still a good
person underneath that eventually blossomed and became a good person. This is a good
example of Shakespeare s imagery. He needed lots of imagery as the stage and scenery were
very sparse and the actors were nothing more than peasants. Prologues in a number of Elizabethan
plays were used to set the scene, give important information and ask the audience for applause.
Acting during these times was also incredibly poor, so prologues helped compensate for this.
Shakespeare s interpretation of Henry V makes him a very controversial character. On one side he
makes Henry look like a heroic figure, on the other, a ruthless, uncaring king. This shows that
Shakespeare tried to make the play more realistic, by showing the Henry was not just good or bad,
but changed his attitudes to accommodate different situations. Examples of this can be found when
before the great battles in which he manipulates

Although Fireworks are used as visual entertainment across the world for celebrations and culture,
the Chinese used it to scare away enemies and diminish evil spirits. In the early years a common
thing that happened was trading, when one country had a good that another country didn t they
would offer it for something in return. Along the silk road to Europe popular items to trade were
Chinese firearms, fireworks and gunpowder. The trading of gunpowder made it really popular which
caused it to spread around the world. Gun powder is made up of simply three ingredients. The
ingredients to make gunpowder are potassium nitrate, common charcoal and sulfur. Ingredients to
make gunpowder can be easily found at markets where chemicals are sold and no such
identification is needed to purchase them. Potassium nitrate was first made up from decayed
animal and then later on it came from mines in India. The common charcoal is made up from
wood that has been cooked so no such gas is in it, all the gases are to be completely removed.
Sulfur is the thirteenth most existing Element in the earth crust and it can be mined. Mixing the
potassium nitrate, common charcoal and sulfur creates gunpowder, it s not difficult to make it so in
reality anyone can make it to cause damage to property or use it to their intentions. The outcome of
the three chemicals being mixed together causes everything to turn black, once you ve reached the
stage you know gunpowder is in your hands. The

Uphill 1970s what problems with it * Renovate * Regeneration There are several geological factors, which led to Glasgow s importance. Firstly, there were many nearby coal and iron fields. These are the two essential ingredients required to produce steel, making Glasgow an ideal place for industry. On top of this, there is a very deep, large river (R. Some houses were in such a poor state, that they fell down with people living in them, resulting in a number of tragic deaths. The city had rapidly fallen into a state of inner city decay. The first step taken by the Councils was to carry out Comprehensive Redevelopment. This means demolishing and rebuilding slums. Many slums were removed from areas such as Gorbals, and roads new roads were also built to improve transport links. To re house all of the people made homeless from the demolishing of the slums, many cheap tower blocks were erected for people to live in. However these came with their own set of new problems. They were put up very rapidly, and so they were very badly built. They soon became damp, and walls started to crumble, and furniture became ruined, and people ill. In extreme cases, the walls had completely disintegrated. Families were also split up, or fragmented as a result of the relocations. The tower blocks were also ugly, and it caused people, especially children to become housebound, as it was very impractical for youngsters to go down to the bottom of a tower block on their own to play. The tower blocks also brought with them crime, as they are extremely hard to police. This city was

  • 4. Reflection About Sports My life has consisted of many sports. Sports has been a part of my life for a while now every since I can remember. The sports I played throughout the years has been baseball, football, soccer, and I ran track. Throughout the years I played these sports has been some challenging times and injuries that have happened to me. Injuries and challenges always have an impact on a athletes abilities and there physical and mental wanting to keep on playing. One challenge I had playing some of these sports is the coaches. Some coaches you have through your high school or athletic career will help you and assist you. One coach I had for track was the total opposite of that, instead of helping us, all she would do is criticize everything that a person would do wrong and ignore the team if they had questions. She wouldn t help us resolve our problem and I found that as a challenge for me because if I needed help on some tips for running, she would not help. How I responded to this situation is by talking to her about the ways she coaches. She didn t respond very well to what I had to say but at least I stood up and said something. She learned that I didn t like how she was coaching and that s how I resolved my situation with her. Many individuals tend to become uninterested, uncommitted, and unmotivated for many reasons. The reasons they have could be resolved very easily. Some of the reasons I have heard throughout the years is that the training is too hard. Training is supposed to be hard, you aren t going to be the best unless you train hard. Another complaint I have heard is that the coaches are mean. Some coaches are mean and some coaches are mean for a reason. Some coaches that is the only way they know. Pushing athletes to the wall has been a coaching thought for many years and most coaches I had, went by that mindset. The last reason I think people become uninterested in sports or physical activity is that there not getting any results. The fact of the matter is; it is not just working out that s going to get you the results. There are many factors that go into progressing and getting that result you want. Your diet has a lot to do with getting that result so you got to make sure you are eating right. Ways that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Opioids are important for pleasurable experience . If we observe a hedonic spectrum, we sould see, that opioids shift it in positive direction : while sweat tastes seem sweater , bitter tastes and pain seem less aversive. Blocking of opioid mediated signalling results in decreased pleasantness of rewards. Recent studies have shown, that there is a dissotiation between the way how Вµ opioid and Оє opioid receptor related signalls modulate the perception of pain.( Вµ and Оє come from the name of the first discoverd ligand that attach to this receptors: Вµ stands for morphineand Оє for ketocyclazocine ). • 7. Essay on The Evolution of the Modern Guitar The modern guitar can be easily acknowledged as one of the most influential and renown instruments in the world. The guitar recognized today has been around for hundreds of years and it is still leaving a legacy in the musical world. Some early iterations of the guitar dating back as far as 1400 BC have evolved into what is known as the modern guitarthrough design innovation. Before the use of synthetic materials in the development of guitars, a guitar was defined as being an instrument having a long, fretted neck, flat wooden soundboard, ribs, and flat back, most often with curved sides (citation). The oldest known guitar like instrument that displayed these features was the string instrument a Hittite bard was holding in a stone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The four course guitar was popular throughout the lute dominated Europe. It was a small bodied guitar and consisted of ten frets. Those frets were not the kind that of the fixed variety, but instead were movable since they were made out of gut and tied around the neck. The back of the instrument tended to be slightly rounded with a distinct ridge up the center like the hull of a boat. The achieved the feat of phasing out the lute, even if it was only temporarily, but soon its popularity started to decline giving way for the five course guitar. 16th century players and theorists believed that the four course guitar had much musical limitations. The instrument underwent series of alterations to lessen these limitations transforming it to the five course guitar. The first change was the addition of the fifth course and tuned lower than the fourth course. Also the body of the guitar was enlarged to accommodate a longer string from 55.5 cm to 63 cm, nearly that of a modern guitar. Its form retained for the following 200 years. Although the five course guitar remained popular throughout most of Europe, one instrument specifically renowned in Spain and Italy greatly influenced the development of the guitar. The Spanish vihuela can be considered as the seminal influence in the development of the guitar. The Vihuela consisted of six doubled strings made of gut and had a guitar like body. Its size was comparable to a classical guitar. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That quote stuck with me for some time and led me to dive deeper into the politics of public space and how it could relate to this piece. The final component to this piece is the definition of place and lens within the city s legacy and youth culture. The concept of youth having autonomy in public spaces is nonexistent in american culture. Youth are trained from a young age that adults control their use of public spaces. Children are welcome in public space as long as an adult controls how the child interacts. For instance, an adult of teacher is in control of how a child interacts in the sandbox, the playground and during recess. Once the child enters middle school and teen years, some autonomy develops which puts adults on edge as they want to control how youth behave in these spaces. Our culture dictates to youth that they are not allowed to enter spaces without the accompaniment of an adult. Social order dictates that groups of teenagers are something to be fearful of. Place is crucial to the development and well being and of young people. When youth have no public spaces to gather or perform without the risk of being questioned by police this becomes an issue in the health and vitality of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Crumple Zones Science Introduction Scientists have made a big impact in car safety by using the role of science. They have created many ways of increasing the possibility to survive a crash, by testing real car crashes and simulated car crashes. In this one world essay, I m going to talk about how scientists have developed crumple zones and have made them work against car crashes. Crumple zones Crumple zones, is an area in the vehicle, that is designed to absorb the energy of the impact when crushing, preventing it from being transmitted to the passengers inside the car. Scientists are still working on many factors that need to be worked on in a crash. For example; racecars will have more severe impacts than streetcars. Crumple zones are no the same for every car. The force always is based on the speed and mass of the car, and the speed and mass of whatever the vehicle hits. What crumple zones do is that they reduce the force of the crush, so the force doesn t reach to the passengers. When the car crashes into a stationary object, some force is transferred to the object. ...... Crumple zones and other parts of the car, are built with special materials inside, that are designed to be damaged and broken. Crumple zones take the most force of the crash as possible, so the other parts of the car as well as the passengers, don t suffer the effects. Designers can t only worry about the impact and the absorption of kinetic energy when the car crashes; it has to also focus on other areas. If the whole car was made out of crumple zones, when the car crashes, the passengers will be thrown out . • 10. Essay about Predicting Voting Behavior Predicting Voting Behavior Voting behaviour is increasingly hard to predict because of the variables that ultimately affect it, these being class, gender, age, ethnicity and regional locality. It is the job of a political scientist to weigh up these factors along with public opinion on major and current issues such as the Health Service, Crime etc. In addition to these they will look at past elections and their statistics to determine the possible result of an imminent election. Research in the 1950 s and 60 s in Britain and the USA indicates that all the factors that might contribute to a persons voting behaviour such as religion, gender, age and regional locality; social class was by far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However this was put under massive dispute throughout the sixties and early seventies until nineteen seventy nine where the conservatives were found to have major success in the general elections because of high amounts of working class votes and the theory was suggested correct. Whatever the reasons the Conservatives won the working class vote the theory did not account for the drop in middle class voters. Ultimately unless the parties fall into a trend whereby one is totally right wing and the other left wing it will be very hard to predict or stereotype people to a political party just because of their class or position in society. Gender is out of the five categories, the most hard to base any conclusions from since the nineteen ninety seven elections. This is because from the statistics there is very little gender differences in party choice. Previously gender was attributed for one of the reasons for party choice; the majority of women voting in the UK in the four elections between nineteen seventy nine and nineteen ninety two voted Conservative than they did for any other party. This is slightly ironic because the Conservative party was in fact the worst represented in terms of female MP s out of the major forerunners being Labour and The Liberal Democrats. • 12. The Six Different Type of Energy This report is on energy. Energy is the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity. What that was saying is that for everything you want to do, you have to have the physical ability and the mind set to do it. Energy and work are the two most important things in human society. Work is activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result. That means, is you want something done, DO IT. Then, the crude luminol produced is oxidized to release photons giving off a light blue glow in a dark room. In a crime scene show, the blood acts as a catalyst aiding in the oxidation of luminol and hydrogen peroxide resulting in the blue glow 1. Introduction: As seen on any crime scene investigation show, such as CSI Miami, traces of cleaned up blood left behind can been seen with the spray of a chemical called luminol. This is due to less acetic acid being able to form the precipitate or the crude luminol. 3.In the luminol synthesis reaction, why was cold water used for rinsing the filtration step? How would the efficiency of the filtration be affected by hot water used instead? Cold water was used because it does not dissolve solids as readily as hot water does. Using hot water in the filtration step would result in some of the crude luminol being dissolved. This would be less efficient since product is being removed and would give less of a product yield. 4.When isolating the solid through precipitate and vacuum filtration, why was the solid not rinsed with a solvent like ethyl acetate or dichloromethane? Water is used because it is not an organic solvent. Ethyl acetate and dichloromethane are both organic solvents and would dissolve the crude luminol product. This like adding hot water would reduce the yield of the product and reduce efficiency. 5.What is the difference between chemiluminescence and fluorescence? The Many Identities of Hamlet in Hamlet by William Shakespeare In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, the protagonist, Price Hamlet, uses several ways to defend himself against his oedipal desires, his animosity towards his uncle, as well as his own inner conflict . Hamlet s hatred towards Claudius stems from two crimes committed; Claudius murder of his brother and his incest with Hamlet s mother. Because of the seriousness of both crimes, as well as the fact that both persons affected are closely related, there is evidence of an interrelation between both of the crimes; which can further explains Hamlet s reaction. Furthermore, the idea of sexuality being connected with Hamlet s mother can be seen in comparison to Hamlet s association between Ophelia and erotic desire. In essence, Hamlet is reverting to a more infantile mind frame when associating Gertrude with Ophelia, subconsciously trying to defend himself against his unresolved Oedipal desires towards his mother. However, when King Hamlet dies and Gertrude remarries, Hamlet s repulsion of his mother is transmitted to Ophelia, causing Hamlet to completely reject her. Hamlet s oedipal desires for his mother, Gertrude, emerge following his father s death. However, contrary to the natural course of the Oedipus Complex, where Hamlet would replace his father, Gertrude marries another man; namely, his Uncle Claudius. In this respect, Claudius now not only represents Hamlet s object of vengeance, but represents Hamlet, himself. The familial image of his father s own brother being intimate with his mother reflects Hamlet s own incestuous desires as well; this can be seen as the root of Hamlet s inner conflict. By killing his Uncle, he would be subconsciously killing himself as well. For this reason, Hamlet has extreme difficulty carrying out the murder of his uncle. Throughout the play Hamlet searches for excuses to procrastinate the deed of killing his father s murderer. His use of cowardice, doubt of his uncle s guilt and even the ... The book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley takes place in the then present late 1700 s to early 1800 s, and is about the struggle between man and his creation. The book gives insight on two characters Victor and his creation. Throughout the story they often suffer alone from society, and criticize each other for it. The creature tried to introduce himself to the family he had spied on by approaching the blind man first. Author Telgen Diane goes into depth of the situation by pronouncing One day when only the old man is in the cottage, the monster enters, introducing himself as a weary traveler. He discovers that because the old man is blind, he is not repulsed by him. The monster then tells his tale of misery and loneliness; the old man responds sympathetically. When the others return, horrified at his monstrous appearance, they chase him. From seclusion in the forest, the next night he emerges to burn down the cottage. He then flees toward Ingolstadt, determined on vengeance (Telgen 183). The point is that the creature suffers externally when the people around him are prejudice to him meaning that they do not understand the creature and fear him, so they revolt back with either fear or violence. Even when the creature had been heroic at times, society still revolts due to his monstrous appearance. Harold Bloom references this when explaining While enjoying these feelings of restoration, he came across a young girl who slipped and fell into a rapid stream, and succeeded in saving her life. But, alas her guardian, terrified to see her with a hideous creature, shot and wounded the monster. This was then the reward of my benevolence! (Bloom 49). Kitagawa Utamaro And Paul Gauguin s Use Of Color Techniques Describe specifically what the term arbitrary color means, a color used at random for objects that have a common color, such as, a tree has green leaves, but we choose to make the leave purple or making the sun black, the clouds green, or the sky yellow, etc. Who was the first artist to employ the technique? I would have to say Katsushika Hokusai, Kitagawa Utamaro, and AndВЇo Hiroshige had a role in the technique. The technique was used in AndВЇo Hiroshige color woodcut print, ( Moon Pine at Ueno from One Hundred Views of Famous Places in Edo ), (Pg. 27), because of the color use. The colors seem to be out of place, such as, the sky s appearance being that of black, blue, and green, also the tree appears to have a redder tent than what we would normally see in nature. Hiroshige and other Japanese artists had gotten young artist thinking about color, arbitrary color, and pure color. One of the artist that took the color techniques from color woodcut prints and Japanese prints was Paul Gauguin. Gauguin was truly the first to employ arbitrary color techniques, which can be seen in his (Vision after the Sermon), (Pg. 60), with vivid red paint in the back ground, splashes of green and blue tenting on the nuns faces, these colors are not known in nature, and they are non descriptive. It just isn t natural to see these colors placed this way. Thus, Gauguin s paintings influenced younger artist and affected their ideas in the Nabis and Fauve periods. She inspired so many people to get where they are. Sandra Day O Connor was the first woman to join the supreme court. She was born in El Piso, Texas on March 26th, 1930. Source 3 has both fragments of agreement and disagreement and it differs from the other sources because it doesn t completely agree with the other 2 sources and it can be seen as an emotionally charged letter, as Seacole is getting so much praise in England, so it could suggest she s jealous of the reception she s receiving back in England. Nightingale also adds criticisms to her methods of helping the men as she calls Seacole s hotel a bad house and she says that she introduced much drunkenness and improper conduct which could be showing her jealousy as she dismisses the fact that she helps the men, but she is ery picky on her methods. • 39. The Museum Of Natural History Museums are information organizations, that is, they are about giving the most up to date information to their patrons. No matter how well their organization, commercially, is wrap it up that part of them remains the same. From the two museums that I visited, the Henry Ford Museum and the Museum of Natural History, are clearly about passing information to the patron. There are differences between them, however, it is the equivalences that I want to focus on as they are what bind them. The three areas of focus are community, academic outreach, and the stories they share. Creating a strong and vibrant community is important to museums. Dr. Ronquillo, a leader a Philippine Archeology museum, so elegantly wrote, A properly planned community museum can express and elucidate the community s cultural wealth through the appropriate presentation and exhibition of their important natural and cultural heritage (Ronquillo, 1992). It is the community that keeps generation after generation coming back to see the history that us humans, the earth, and beyond have gone through. The journey of information, for most, begins as a child during our time at school. For the Museum of Natural History, this is quite literal as the museum is a part of the University of Michigan culture. They have the mascot, the wolverine, College students are going in and out of there through the day. Most are heading to class or doing work study, but a community is still present. • 40. Adoption, NOT Abortion Essay Nowadays, abortion has become a controversial issue because people are becoming more aware of the issue that abortion brings to society and the individual who is going through the abortion .In recent years, however, society has become very open minded, and as a result pro life and pro choice groups have been able to sway the American public s view of abortion. Abortion became legal in 1973 when Roe vs. Wade declared that a woman has the right to choose if she wishes to continue with her pregnancy or if she wishes to terminate it. After 38 years of legalization, issues have become prominent and many Americans are becoming pro life followers and because of this many pro life groups want Roe vs. Wade to be overturned. According to UK s Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG), a fetus cannot feel pain before 24 weeks of gestation because the connections in the fetal brain are not fully formed, as a result it is difficult to say that fetus experiences pain because a fetus cortex has not, yet been fully developed (Jost). However, for example, many studies have shown that early second trimester babies respond to invasive procedures performed at 18 20 weeks with an elevated heart rate and secretion of stress hormones (Jost). This means that there is evidence that supports the theory that fetuses can experience pain or sense of feeling within 18 20 weeks of gestation. In addition, Bjorn Merker, a Swedish neuroscientist who does extensive research on children born without fully developed cortexes, has suggested that the cortex may not be necessary for the perception of pain (Jost). Therefore, it is believed that fetuses can experience pain even as earlier than 20 weeks of development and as a result when a woman is committing abortion, she is causing the fetus inside her womb to feel pain, and is ending the life of a living organism. Although pro choice advocates believe that abortion cannot cause harsh side effects, it has been said that an abortion can lead to serious side effects. According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, abortions can cause side effects like, for example, infertility, uterine bleeding to prolonged ... Many questions posed by scientists about Saturn s atmosphere had gone unanswered for many years, because, like with Jupiter, photos from Earth had not been of high enough quality. The Voyager probes were able to fix that. Information relayed back to Earth from the two probes (which reached Saturn nine months apart, Voyager 1 first in 1980, Voyager 2 in 1981) helped scientists get a much better understanding. Though the atmosphere was expected to be quite similar in composition to the Sun and to Jupiter, Saturn s atmosphere was actually quite different. There was significantly less Helium in Saturn s outmost atmosphere, leading to many interesting conclusions, including that heavier Helium was sinking lower in the atmosphere (Voyager Saturn, NASA). Saturn was also determined to have a lighter density than any other planet and is, in fact, less dense than water. The varying composition of the atmosphere also leant ideas to why Saturn was far warmer than expected, calculating temperature based solely on solar energy, registering between 10 degrees Kelvin at the poles and 143 Kelvin closer to the equator, according to Voyager 1 s radio measurements (these also measured pressure) (Voyager Saturn, NASA). One of the other things determined by the Voyager probes was the extreme speed of the wind on Saturn. Wind blows at speeds of about 500 meters per second near the equator (Voyager Saturn, ... Obstructive Sleep Apnea ( Osa ) Essay Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a major health problem, as more than 22 million adults in the U.S suffer from OSA.1 The prevalence of moderate to severe OSA in older adults aged 65 and over is twice as high as that in middle aged adults.2 Unfortunately, estimates suggest that 85% of individuals with moderate to severe OSA remain undiagnosed.3 Individuals with untreated moderate to severe OSA are at a greater risk for depression (DEP), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and dementia compared to individuals with no OSA. In OSA, repetitive intracranial blood flow surges during apneic episodes cause disturbances in microvascular functions, resulting in hypoperfusion4 6 and poor cerebral vasomotor reactivity.7 9 Hypoxemia promotes the development of cerebral small vessel disease (C SVD).10 13 Repeated rapid alternations between hypoxia and reoxygenation cause oxidative stress,14,15 which alters blood brain barrier functions and leads to the formation of C SVD.16 18 The consequences of C SVD are 1) disruption of neuronal activity in regions involved in the regulation of mood and cognition 11,19,20 and 2) reduction of prefrontal and frontal lobe vascular perfusion,10,21 23 which causes neuronal metabolic deficiencies that may lead to synaptic loss and neuronal damage.24,25 The progression of C SVD is now known to be associated with new onset depression,26 MCI,27,28 and an increased risk for dementia.27,29,30 Based on this supporting evidence, we hypothesize that C SVD may mediate ... William Shakespeare s Henry V Essay William Shakespeare s Henry V Shakespeare s, Henry V, was written in the late sixteenth century, this composition will focus upon how Shakespeare portrayed Henry V, using factual knowledge and Shakespeare s own interpretation. I will look at the character, language, structure and history of the play. Most Shakespearian, historical, plays were based upon Holinshead s Chronicles, these were mostly true but often Shakespeare adjusted the figures and facts to emphasise parts of his play s, and create tension and drama, such as when he is attempting to woo Katherine, to make a more interesting play. However Ely refers to the good in Henry, The strawberry groweth underneath the nettle Ely is saying that Henry was still growing, surrounded by people who are bad, but is still a good person underneath that eventually blossomed and became a good person. This is a good example of Shakespeare s imagery. He needed lots of imagery as the stage and scenery were very sparse and the actors were nothing more than peasants. Prologues in a number of Elizabethan plays were used to set the scene, give important information and ask the audience for applause. Acting during these times was also incredibly poor, so prologues helped compensate for this. Shakespeare s interpretation of Henry V makes him a very controversial character. On one side he makes Henry look like a heroic figure, on the other, a ruthless, uncaring king. This shows that Shakespeare tried to make the play more realistic, by showing the Henry was not just good or bad, but changed his attitudes to accommodate different situations.
