THE BATTLE OF GUADALCANAL Essay
Introduction The Battle of Guadalcanal was a very important battleground that ended the Japanese
ground advancement in the Pacific area of operations. Also, after they were defeated and removed
from the island it showed that they were not an unstoppable foe that resulted in boasting the
confidence of the United States and its allies. The amphibious assault that occurred on Guadalcanal
was the first amphibious counteroffensive for the United States after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. The
Japanese were attempting to build an airfield on the island and gain a foothold that would help to
protect their flanks as they continued their offensive campaign through the Pacific. Having an
established foothold on Guadalcanal would also give the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also believed that if the Japanese were able to complete this airfield that it would be too
advantageous for them and would also aid in invading Port Moresby on the Western coast of New
Guinea.
Planning and Preparation In the initial planning there were many debates on who would command the
assault on Guadalcanal. General Douglas MacArthur was the Commander of the Southwest Pacific
Forces and was originally thought of to command the assault. However the Navy expressed numerous
concerns that MacArthur would possibly leave their carriers exposed and the result placed Admiral
Chester Nimitz as the overall Commander. The mission was tasked to the 1st marine division out of
North Carolina that was commanded by Major General Alexander Vandegrift. General Vandegrift
received his orders to perform the amphibious assault on Guadalcanal on the 25th of June 1942.
Immediately General Vandegrift realized many problems he would have to overcome. Originally he
had not planned on deploying his unit into combat until the beginning of 1943. His unit was newly
formed and spread between three different locations. To make matters worse the majority of his men
had little to no combat experience. The majority of the equipment they possessed was

Occupy Wall Street Movement Moral and Ethical Implications
The Occupy Wall Street Movement that started in September 2011 in Liberty Square in the Finical

This is the real reason we have such an uneven distribution of wealth in this country. The positive
outcomes of the movement are that it increased the public s awareness about economic inequality.
(Occupy Wall Street Movement , 2012 ). It all started with a simple slogan We are the 99% that will
no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. (Kroll, 2011). This movement increased
awareness among the of the public and was a huge step forward for creating equality in the America
(Occupy Wall Street, 2012). This movement will also bring changes in the political environment that
will reduce corruption in US. Increase number of jobs programs, welfare benefits, and rebuilding
infrastructure would be the outcome of this movement (Occupy Wall Street, 2012). It will also help
design the structural changes that will befit a capitalist society and to reduce the uneven wealth
distribution in our country (Kroll, 2011). I believe that the moment will continue to move forward and
has already influenced many cities worldwide. The most important aspect of the this movement was
the fact that people now saw first hand that they had the power to effect change (Longenecker, 2012).
The Occupy Wall Street Movement brought revolution in America and gave the entire world the
image that the people have the power to affect change. It brought attention to Americans about
corporate greed and economic equality. There were some distinct moral and ethical

Piaget Juice Observation Essay
Research report
By Christopher Brockwell
Abstract
The theory being tested was Piaget s Conservation experiment. It involved one participant, two stools,
a round table, a tablecloth, one tall tubular glass and two beaker glasses (both filled with juice). The
aim of this experiment was to test whether the participant could distinguish which out of the two
beakers (one tall and thin, the other short and rotund) contained the most juice.
In response to the question posed, the participant responded that the tall tubular glass contained the
most juice, even though both contained the same amount of juice. Piaget predicted a new logic would
enter the mind forming a new kind of intelligence. Research showed that unevenness instead of

Donaldson argued that children form a model of the world by formulating hypotheses that help
anticipate events in the future on the basis of past experiences. The child therefore has expectations
about any scenario and their interpretation of the words they hear will be influenced by the
expectations they bring to the situation. (Smith, Cowie, Blades, 2011).
Vygotksy would state learning is not part of development, but only when properly organised learning
can result in mental development that sets in motion a variety of developmental processes that would
be impossible asides from learning. Therefore learning is a vital part and universal feature for the
process of developing culturally organised, and in particular human, psychological functions. (Cole,
John Steiner, Scribner, Souberman, 1978).
Much of Piaget s early work involved the clinical method children being asked questions in a
somewhat unstructured way, the onus being to establish whether they understood different problems.
This approach was criticised for being unscientific, with Piaget and his fellow workers eventually
being more precise in their experiments. It was agreed however that Piaget posed problems in a way
that young children found difficult to comprehend. (Eysenck,

Reading And Understanding College Textbooks
School Name: Harford Community College, Bel Air, MD
Course Name: Reading and Understanding College Textbooks (upper level developmental reading)
Course Format: Lab based
Key Results After fully integrating MyReadingLab into class time, students post test averages
increased from 66 to 74 percent, and completion rates increased from 91 to 98 percent. Based on these

Students meet for three hours a week for 15 weeks.
Reading and Understanding College Textbooks emphasizes improvement of the reading process and
study skills necessary for understanding and learning college level material; it focuses on
strengthening reading comprehension and encourages critical reading skills that are necessary for
successful completion of college courses. Students learn a variety of strategies to assist them in
improving vocabulary, comprehension, test taking abilities, and flexibility in reading.
Challenges and Goals
We chose to implement MyReadingLab beginning in fall 2013 due to a number of challenges we had
been facing. Previously, students had to take division exams on an internal web portal in our tutoring
and testing center. If students did not receive an 80 percent, they would have to work with a tutor in
the computer lab to improve their skills before taking the exam a second time. We experienced high
volumes of paperwork and grading errors, and students were not getting what they needed to succeed.
MyReadingLab offers students a flexible, convenient way to remediate wherever and whenever they
choose. It provides instructors with all the necessary content in one location and the ability to ensure
consistency of topic mastery across sections. It has been a goal of ours to tweak our MyReadingLab
implementation each semester to improve student results and

Compare And Contrast Augustine And Worldview
What a man hopes for is the central tenant to his worldview. That worldview is not only the lens
through which one views the world, but the expression through which the world shapes how one
views the world. In a way, worldview colors what we see in the world, all the while those same things
are shaping that very same worldview into something new and different. Ultimately, where our hope
lies always remains central to worldview. This is especially true in our view of the physical dimension.
How one views the material world and human bodies in relation to human souls and the afterlife is
fundamental to one s worldview. Plato, the Late Classical Greek philosopher, and Saint Augustine, the
Catholic Bishop of the North African city of Hippo, both made their views on the material world and
human bodies clear in their writings and dialogues. While Plato s hope rested in an ethereal bodiless
existence, Augustine hoped in the redemption and reconciliation of the body through Christ. Plato
made the source of his hope abundantly clear in his dialogue, Phaedo, There is good hope that on
arriving where I am going, if anywhere, I shall acquire what has been our chief preoccupation in our
past life (Phaedo, 67b c). Plato s ultimate hope and desire was to attain real wisdom. He had a true
conundrum, however: he believed that the physical world was by very nature evil. Not only that, but
he believed the physical dimension to which our bodies bind us was altogether false. In fact, he

From 1959 to 1975, America has been engaged in her longest and most disappointing war she has ever
been in, the Vietnam War. The war heavily taxed the country s patience and will of the government.
There were several bad decisions which led to the ultimate defeat and retreat of U.S. The Vietnam War
had a mostly negative impact on United States, by showing eventual failure of the American
government, the collapse of U.S economy, and the loss of trust from the American People.
There was political pressure. There were many presidents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His rational to increase the Vietnam War effort was his own version of the Domino Theory, which
basically the same as the original version, but with more aggression. Yelland summarized Johnson s
motive by this statement. If you let a bully come into your front garden one day, the next day he ll be
up on your porch, and the day after that he ll rape your wife in your own bed. (Yelland). The military
force bombed Vietnam without sympathy simply destroying anyone considered to be an enemy. Large
villages with women and children were bombed and even temples and churches that were in fire free
zones were destroyed in the process. President Johnson s popularity was at an all time low and he
publicly announced that he would not run for president for a second time (Zinn 474).
Richard Nixon vowed to get United States out of Vietnam and with that promise; he won the election
and became president in 1969. Nixon withdrew the majority of the troops back to the United States
and by February 1972 there were 150,000 troops left in Vietnam. He trying to please the American
citizens by solving their main problem that they had against the war. The problem was the fact that the
American soldiers put their lives on the front lines in Vietnam. He was enforcing a policy he called
Vietnamization which meant replacing American troops with Vietnamese troops (Zinn 474). However,
during the spring of 1970, Nixon secretly approved the bombing of Cambodia

Olivia E. Coolidge s Arachne
In the story Arachne by Olivia E. Coolidge, there was a conflict between Arachne and the Goddess
Athene. Arachne s arrogance was the cause of the conflict between the two of them. Arachne, a
mortal, said that she was equal or even greater than the Goddess Athene at weaving. In the text it
states With my own ten fingers I gained this skill, and by hard practice from early morning till night. I
never had time to stand looking as you people do while another maiden worked. Nor if I had, would I
give Athene credit because the girl was more skillful than I. As for Athene s weaving, how could there
be finer cloth or more beautiful embroidery than mine? If Athene herself were to come down and
compete with me, she could do no better than I. This angered Athene so she came down to ... Show

In the text it states Stupid old woman, said Arachne indignantly, who gave you the right to speak in
this way to me? It is easy to see that you were never good for anything in your day, or you would not
come here in poverty and rags to gaze at my skill. If Athene resents my words, let her answer them
herself. I have challenged her to a contest, but she, of course, will not come. It is easy for the gods to
avoid matching their skill with that of men. So while in the the contest Arachne was given warnings
from Athene but she still made something very insulting to the Gods. Athene insulted by her work
decided to turn Arachne into a spider. In the text it states When the goddess saw this insult glowing in
bright colors on Arachne s loom, she did not wait while the cloth was judged, but stepped forward, her
grey eyes blazing with anger, and tore Arachne s work across. Then she struck Arachne across the
face. Arachne stood there a moment, struggling with anger, fear, and pride. I will not live under this
insult, she cried, and seizing a rope from the wall, she made a noose and would have hanged

The Creature Of The Beast
In France in the late 1760 s, there was an atrocity that involved around one hundred animal attack
deaths caused by one creature, the infamous Beast of Gevaudan. Per Jaime Hill, the beast was the size
of a horse and looked like a bear, hyena, wolf, and panther hybrid. It had a long wolf or pig like snout.
Many researchers believed there were at least two, or more than two, beasts roaming the area. The
color of the beast changed every time the beast was spotted; it would go from red to red with grey and
white patches to red with stripes. Sometimes there would even be no red, it may just be black or white.
Locals believed it to be a werewolf, or a sorcerer who shapeshifted into a monstrous predator to feed
on human flesh. The beast was also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
June of 1767, a man said the beast could be killed, that he had found a way. He said he needed a holy
bullet made of silver, blessed by a holy man. He takes the ammunition into the forest and arrives back
to the village with a wolf. Villagers agree it is the beast and no beast is spotted afterwards. In 2000,
historians notice things do not add up; a wolf cannot remove someone s clothes. In 2011, researchers
concluded that Jean trained the wolf, killed the people, and then killed the wolf to make it look like a
beast. Still to this day, no one knows for sure what happened ( Mysteries at the Museum n.p.).
Per World of Mythology, the attacks of the beast started in 1764. People all around hunted every wolf
they could find, hoping it would be the beast, but the attacks continued. In 1765, Francois Antoine
killed a large grey wolf, but the attacks continued Also in 1765, a doctor came across a man in a wolf
suit assaulting a woman and killed him but the attacks still went on. Finally, a man by the name Jean
Chastel discovered that if a silver bullet is blessed by a church, it could kill the beast. Chastel got three
silver bullets blessed by the local church and went into the woods, returning with a dead wolf. This
was the final attack on a wolf by the time the attacks stopped. Chastel said he went into the woods and
found the giant wolf. He was the size of a horse and looked like a panther and wolf hybrid. He

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Poem
Into each life some rain must fall ( The Rainy Day ). Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was a writer and a
poet who wrote about death often. In his life, he was given an honorary doctorate of Laws from
Harvard. The famous poet died at the age of 75 from severe stomach pains on Friday, March 24. 1882.
He left behind a trail of legacies. He was one of the most popular figures in America and Europe. He
was buried next to his two wives in Mount Auburn Cemetery. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, an
American writer, used his life and philosophical ideas to write poetry about nature, death, and
emotions.
Henry Longfellow grew up in a life where he was expected to follow in his father s footsteps but
broke away to poetry instead. At the age of fifteen, in 1822, Longfellow attended Bowdoin College in
Brunswick, Maine, along the side of his brother, Stephen H. His grandfather being the founder and his

Henry had a way of tying things going on in society, his personal life, and emotions in his poetry. He
wrote the poem, Paul Revere s Ride, which describes the night of April 18, 1775. The poem is not
indeed spot on with the actual event because the actual event of Paul Revere s Ride was over a
hundred years older than Longfellow. The poem starts off in Boston, Massachusetts, where Paul and a
friend are speaking with one another about the British Army. The two men think that the soldiers are
going to leave boston later that night but they are having trouble knowing whether or not they will go
by sea or by land. Paul Revere has a plan to warn the people, but he needs to know what direction he
should take, the two men come up with a secret code to warn each other of the direction. Longfellow

Compare And Contrast Safavid And Mughal Empires
Safavid and Mughal Empires The decline of the Mongol Empire laid ground for the Ottoman, Safavid,
and Mughal empires. These three empires all had military strength, Sovereign Pride, Religious
commitment, and Aesthetic sophistication in common to varying degrees. The Safavid and Ottoman
empires are usually compared because of the wars that broke out between them and their similar
attributes. However, this will be a comparison of the Safavid and Mughal Empires. The Mughal
empire was founded by leader Zahir al Din Muhammad, known as Babur (the tiger) in 1526. When he
defeated Ibrahim Lodi, the last of the Afghan Lodi Sultans at the First Battle of Panipat, where they
used gunpowder for the first time in India. The Mughal Empire is known as a gunpowder empire.
With the help of gunpowder weapons Babur took Delhi in 1526. When Babur died in 1530 he left a
loosely knit empire he called Mughal. The word Mughal was the Persian term for Mongol. The
Safavid Empire s founder was the Persian mystic Sheikh Safi al Din (1254 1334), after whom the
order was named. The Safavid Empire was based in what is today Iran. This Islamic Empire was
strong enough to challenge the Ottomans in the west and the Mughals in the east. The Mughal Empire
ruled most of India and Pakistan in the 16th and 17th centuries. The empire Islam in South Asia, and

The Importance Of Firing Firearms
The Second Amendment gives American citizens the right to keep and bear arms. Many people own
firearms, whether it is a handgun, rifle, or shotgun, but not everyone knows how they function. The
process is a bit more complex than to pull a trigger, some magic happens, and the projectile
accelerates out of the barrel of the firearm. Every person who owns a firearm should be educated on
the physics of how a firearm functions. Once you are confident with your shot on a target, pull the
trigger. The specific mechanics from the trigger to the hammer or firing pin are different because it
depends on the type of firearm and the company the manufactures it. However, pulling the trigger will
produce the same end result for all firearms. The trigger will release the hammer or firing pin, which

The cartridge is the ammunition that is placed into the chamber of the firearm. Each firearm is
designed to fire a certain caliber cartridge. Each caliber ensures a tight fit in the chamber of its
assigned firearm, which will not allow any gases to escape once fired. Firing the wrong caliber
cartridge could result in a gun jam, or you could destroy the firearm. Bullet cartridges are a
combination of a projectile (bullet), a propellant (gunpowder), and a primer (explosive cap), all
contained in a metal casing. The spark ignites the gunpowder. Most people believe that it is the
explosion that propels the projectile; however, this theory is false. When the powder ignites, it releases
gases that expand and push on the projectile. Sir Isaac Newton s third law of motion, which implies
that for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction. As the expanding gases exert force on the
projectile, it is forced into the barrel of the firearm. The recoil of the firearm is the equal but opposite
force created by the gases forcing the projectile to accelerate out the

Christopher Seitz s The, The Divine, Miraculous...
I turned to a number of commentaries with these questions in mind. Christopher Seitz cites the opinion
of C. Westermann that the salvation referred to in this chapter is brought about by the divine,
miraculous transformation of a condition, the nation s oppression and impoverishment, into its
opposite rather than it being brought about by an historical event. Seitz comments that by God
becoming Zion s everlasting light, Zion s exaltation has cosmic, transnational consequences. I found
this unconvincing in the face of the fact that we have not seen the exaltation of Zion during the period
of the text. One would have to remove it entirely from history and see this as an apocalyptic text,
which my passed study of Isaiah has shown not to be true. I moved on to Joseph Blenkinsopp, who as
usual, did not disappoint. Here I found the historical context of this section of Isaiah. Blenkinsopp
referred back to Isaiah 58 to shed light on why the vision of theophany in Isaiah 60 had not been
realized. Cyrus had release the Jews from Babylonian captivity, and those who wished to had returned
to Jerusalem. But the dominant frame of mind of the people being address (in Isaiah 58) is one of
disorientation and disillusionment. There is corruption in the government and judicial system, and
among the religious leaders. The poor are neglected. Jerusalem suffers under external pressures and
internal dissention. In chapter 60 the vision is unfulfilled; in chapter 58, God tells the

Becoming a California State Lifeguard
Becoming a lifeguard has been an interest of mine for many years. Leading a healthy active lifestyle
and helping others is a great profession. Being able to live and work in beautiful California State Park
Lands, educating people about water safety, rescuing victims from rip currents, and training the youth
to be competent in the water are all great reasons to be a California State Lifeguard. Also, along with

The use of lifeguards on beaches in California began in the late 1930 s. Communities grew around
seasonal beach attendance because it was an affordable place for adventure after the Depression.
When transportation improvements made the beaches accessible to the inland communities, swimmers
entered the surf zone. In Southern California drownings increased on a massive scale. For example, in
the early 1900 s Newport Beach experienced 18 drownings in one weekend. In 1918, 13 people
drowned in San Diego in one day. Lifeguard services were modeled after east coast lifeguard
operations. Swim lines or lifelines were attached to shore. However, struggling swimmers were not
always able to hold onto them. Row boats(dory boats), the rescue paddle board, and throw lines were
used. Swimming rescues were the last resort due. So, eventuality Californians supported bond issues
that allowed the Division of Beaches and Parks to acquire significant coastal land. Acquisition of land
led to the development of campgrounds. They both became instantly popular and the immediate need
for lifeguard service was met with a contract to the

Family Practitioner Personal Statement
As I stepped off the plane for the first time at Maurice Bishop International Airport on the small island
of Grenada I had no idea where the next four years would take me. I was just a young man from a
small town in rural Iowa who had never lived outside of the United States, setting out on an adventure
to pursue a degree in medicine. While working at a number of local health fairs on the island, I was
able to spend a lot of time interacting with members of the community discussing their personal
struggles with health. For many of my patients it was a poor understanding of how to maintain a
healthy lifestyle or a lack of resources, while others were afraid of the stigma associated with disease
and mental health. Though my time in Grenada was short, it was interactions such as these that
continue to motivate me to focus on primary care, preventative medicine, and decreasing disparities in
healthcare.

Buddhist Meditation Paper
Rooted in the Buddhist religious practices, meditation is rapidly being implemented into the
mainstream system of health care. Numerous studies have indicated that extensive meditation training
may lead to functional and structural changes within the brain (e.g. Cahn Polich, 2006; Carter et al.,
2005; Slagter et al., 2007). Therefore, suggesting that the continuous practice of Buddhist meditation

in the participants, however, the data collected sufficiently corroborated the mental balance model as a

improves mindfulness skills, having a positive effect on attention and cognition. The article supported

The case for VC firms is similar. General partners must convince some in regards to the affiliations
already said to place put into the store with the certification of tremendous returns (in the region of 5X
and 10X) in a particular time period (as a rule 10 years).
The VC firms should then go ahead to make clever investments so they can give the limited partners
their cash back... in addition to a benefit.
How do Venture Capital firms make money? The way Venture Capital funds make money are two
fold: by managements fee and carries (carried interest).
Management fees: administration charges are typically characterized as the cost of having your
benefits professionally managed . How does this convert into the Venture Capital industry? VC
capitals commonly pay a yearly administration charge to the reserve s administration organization, as
a type of salary and an approach to cover authoritative and funds expenses. Administration expenses
are normally figured on a level of the capital duties of the reserve, or around 2 to 2.5 per cent.
Carried premium or carry: share of the profit of an investment or investments fund that is paid to the
investment administrator in abundance of the sum that the director adds to the partnership. When an
investment is effective, a carry speaks to the offer of the profit that is paid to the fund supervisors.

Van Toller (1994) noted that malodour associated with skin ulceration can lead to serious
psychological problems, ranging from general depression to becoming a virtual social outcast.
The community nurses had actively encouraged Mrs. Smith to re establish social interactions with old
friends. However, Young (2005) observed that patients can interpret this type of encouragement as a
lack of understanding by nurses of the effect that their condition is having on their life. Wilkes et al
(2003) conducted a qualitative study on the effect of malodour on nurses and found that adverse
feelings such as nausea were common. However, nurses hide these emotions from their patients to
protect the patients feelings.
The community nurses decided that they needed to talk to Mrs. Smith about the odour and involve her
in selecting a dressing product that was designed to alleviate or reduce the problem. The assessment
identified that the wound was infected with beta haemolytic streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus
and a two week course of systemic antibiotics was prescribed.
Wound odour is often a complication of bacterial infection and the presence of infection explained
why Mrs. Smith had experienced a worsening of the odour in recent weeks (Hack, 2003).

Thank you for your email. We just had a nor easter. It started Monday night and continued through
Tuesday. In a sense, many people are on the recovery mode today including us. They said Spring
officially starts on Monday but I am not seeing it. It is still in the low 20s plus the wind chill factor,
feels more like in the teens. Hope to see spring sometime soon. As you can probably tell, I have
started re working the analysis given the figures from Dr. Ogoshi and Dr. Murthy s team. If you have
followed the email exchanges, you probably noted that Dr. Murthy s team is using different yield
levels than us. I am not really sure why that is the case. At any rate, you may want to clarify with the
team when you have the meeting to ensure that everybody is on the same page. For the current
analysis, I am using the crop yields agreed upon with Dr. Ogoshi. I will also incorporate the jet fuel
processing cost calculated by Dr. Murthy s team. They have not gotten back to me on my follow up
queries. In the analysis, I will include the break even yields and break even prices for the two
bioenergy crops. I should be able to send the preliminary results by end of next week. To ... Show

Pop Rocks Research Paper
Pop Rocks are a fun candy that have been enjoyed over the years. As soon as you put them in your
mouth, you start to hear and feel the popping! The question you might be asking is what exactly are
Pop Rocks? Everyone has eaten the popping candy, but have you ever wondered what makes them
pop? You might be wondering how Pop Rocks are even made or if they are dangerous.
Most hard candy is consisted of sugar, corn syrup, water, and flavoring. You heat the ingredients
together and boil the mixture to get off all of the water. Then, you let the temperature rise. The
temperature that the hard candy is heated at is 300 degrees Fahrenheit. After the temperature is raised,
you are left with is a pure sugar syrup. When it cools, you have hard candy. Pop Rocks are made by,
combining the hot sugar substances with carbon dioxide gas. Once it cools, you release the pressure
and the candy shatters, but the pieces still contain the high pressure bubbles. If you look at Pop Rocks

There are theories that drinking Coke with Pop Rocks will make your stomach explode. Mythbusters
proved that this is incorrect. In their very first episode, they used a pig stomach and combined a six
pack of Coke and six packets of Pop Rocks. There was a lot of fizz, but it did not burst the stomach.
On a scale from one to ten on dangerousness, Pop Rocks come in at about a two. It is very rare, but
there is a potential risk of ulcers and loss of teeth. This can only happen in extreme cases. Originally
invented in 1956 by William A. Mitchell, a chemist at the General Foods company looking for a way
to make instant carbonated soda by somehow trapping carbon dioxide into candy tablets. But when the
instant soda experiment didn t turn out, the formula was forgotten and put away. Twenty years later,
another chemist came across the formula, reworked it a little, and turned it into Pop

Lululemon Analysis
Lululemon was founded by Chop Wilson in Vancouver, Canada in 1998. Lululemon itself is described
as a yoga inspired athletic apparel that is both for men and women. The company has apparel for yoga,
training, running and fashion. It has shaped the way people dress to go workout. Society finds
themselves purchasing consumer products for no reason. Lululemon is recognized for its high quality
and pricy products. They buy these things that fill a void they have inside of them. But in the end they
will keep wanting more. Consumers today have depended on money and how consumption brings
negative outcome behind materialism. In the essay Two Cheers for Materialism by James B. Twitchell,
he defines us American as materialists and how we are a nation of consumers. While Lululemon is a
popular consumer choice, many aspects influence the consumption of such a product such as when
Lululemon first started out, When I first came across the brand and the expatiations it has for
consumers.
When Lululemon first started out, it was only for women. Now they expanded their store and brought
in a men s section and a youth section for just girls. When you walk into Lululemon you walk into a
store that has a bunch of athletic wear. There is a Men s side and Women s side. You walk into an
atmospheric friendly place, the employees are very nice and helpful. Lululemon does not advertise
their product like Nike, Puma or any other athletic brand usually does with their commercials and ads.

Speaker 1 Political dynasty is the concentration, consolidation or continuation of public office and

Single payer health plan places the financing with one entity usually the government. One major
advantage of this system is that all Americans and lawful residents would be entitled to benefits
regardless of individual or family income (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Private insurance plans and
government entitlement programs (Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare, and the Federal Employee Health
Benefits Program) would no longer be necessary under a single payer system, although the for some
private insurance will remain for those desiring coverage beyond what a basic government plan might
offer (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Health care providers would be reimbursed on a fee for service
scale (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Hospitals, nursing homes, and other institutional facilities would
be given an annual prospective budget to provide all required care (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572).
Single payer system has to offer two things that are important are having coverage for all individuals
in the United States and the money spent on health care was budgeted. There is other ways that have
been tried or discussed and they would be piecemeal, managed competition, play or pay, and
employee mandate, although those do not necessarily provide coverage to all individuals. There are

Critical Analysis Of The Raven
Within the poem The Raven written by Edgar Allen Poe, is a speaker who lives alone. The speaker
within the poem must confront the reality of his circumstances, by admitting the death of his wife
named Lenore. Throughout the poem, Edgar Allen Poe describes the vicious cyclical combat of grief
through the speaker, as he imagines faint whispering and tapping on his door. Within his psychotic
episodes, the speaker witnesses a talking raven. The raven acts as a symbol of truth concerning the
death of Lenore. Only to leave the speaker with the inability to accept his wife s death.
Throughout the poem, Poe emphasizes characteristics of the speaker through the setting. The speaker s
recollection of the encounter with the raven, reflects the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due to the raven, ultimately linking the internal conflict of the speaker. The relationship
between the speaker s grieving process is seen through the speaker s perspective of the raven.
Because the raven represents the death of Lenore, Poe first introduces the raven within the poem as a
sudden, and fright full event. The uncertain rustling of each purple curtain catches the speaker off
guard, as it thrill[s] [him] fill[s] [him] with fantastic terrors never felt before (13 14). By introducing
the raven in a frightful manner, Poe implies that Lenore s death was sudden and terrifying for the
speaker. So sudden and terrifying, that the speaker must still the beating of [his] heart (15). Which
explains why the speaker distracts himself with the volume[s] of forgotten lore within the first stanza;
and explains why the speaker is suddenly intrigued with [the] visitor entreating entrance at [his] door
(2,16). To comfort himself, the speaker attempts to speak to the visitor, only to find darkness there,
and nothing more (24). By leaving the speaker alone with his thoughts, Poe is emphasizing the
speaker s loneliness and hints towards the speaker s grieving process. Although it may seem as if the
speaker admits to the death of his wife long I stood there wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming
dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before (25 26). The speaker begins to hear

Julian Informative Speech
We know so little. There are so few facts recorded, we don t even know her name but I can tell you we
know her impact and can feel her work stretching through decades and centuries to continue to inspire
and shape the lives of people today. This is Julian of Norwich.
Julian was born in 1342 in Norwich, England and spent most of her life as an anchorite, a recluse
living alone in an closed room attached to the parish church of St Julian of LeMans at Conisford in
Norwich. Though few biographic details are known about Julian, it is likely she came from a wealth
family as anchoresses had to prove they could support themselves through some form of income
before they could be enclosed. Julian s name could have been her baptism name or she may have
followed the custom of taking the name of the saint attached to the church of which she became an
anchorite.
Julian recognised her need for deeper love and knowledge of Christ and appealed to God, asking for
three things. Firstly she prayed for revelations so she could gain a greater understanding of Christ s
passion. Secondly she asked for a near death experience which would allow her to experience all that
a body and soul could including the last rites but survive. Allowing her to live a more consecrated life
being more mindful of God. Julian s final request was for three wounds ... Show more content on

The Hard Determinist Does Not Exist
People who believe that we have no free will, that there is no free actions are known as a hard
determinists. In other words, hard determinism is the doctrine that there are no free actions. To them,
everything is casually determined and no one acts freely. The hard determinist does not deny that it
seems that we have free will. What they deny is that the way things seems is the way they are.
Nothing could ever be any other way than the way it is. Choices do not exist, free will does not exist,
and randomness does not exist. What happens depends entirely on the previous arrangements of its
cause and could not be otherwise. Hard determinist argue that all human actions are casually
determined and therefore we act freely and cannot be held morally responsible for our actions. As an
example Bob and Tom are stuck in a room. In one hand, Bob has chocolate cake and in the other hand,
he has an apple, Bob is offering him one. Tom was given a choice to either choose the chocolate cake
or the apple and he chose the chocolate cakes. To Tom, in his mind, he would say that he chose the
chocolate cake on his own free will. If he wanted to, he could have chosen the apple, nothing forced
him to pick the chocolate cake, he chose it because he wanted it, and he was free to choose either. A
hard determinist would say that his past events made him chose the chocolate cake. Maybe as a child,
he was given the sweet sugary treat more often the healthy fresh apple and because of that reason, he

There are large amounts of information available in the world through various media outlets, such as
the internet, mobile conversations, emails, chats, messages, etc. Nowadays, everything is a big data
and with the emergence of the whole new breed of big data software which is distributed all over in
the world, whatever data is available can be used for analyzing.
With the wide spread internet and improvement in technology the big data field have expanded at
various fields like banking, finance, social network etc. This paper reviews how the data is being
exposed on the internet and gives scope for the infringement of privacy; also I will review a variety of
electronic tools/methods that helps in protecting users privacy as well reflect upon how much less
people know about these infringements but how much more is happening. Also, I will review some of
the rules that exist to protect the privacy of users online.
Big data:
Big data is anything which is too large for traditional databases to handle. They range from Terabytes
of data to petabytes of data. Big data is generated from various sources, such as social media
networks, oil wells, mobile phone conversations, weather data etc.
Blackberry generates instrumentation data 500 Terabytes a day and has over 100 petabytes of data.
Chase Bank generates 150 petabytes of total data, Facebook got over 70 petabytes, Chevron (an

The For A Patient For Hospice Care
The ability for a patient to qualify for hospice care is based on the physician s determination that their
illness is not responding to treatment and the patient has 6 months or less to live. Illnesses that require
hospice care in the adult population take a more predictable pattern than in pediatric and perinatal
patients. This is not to say that the process of hospice care and dying is easier for the patients, their
families, or the hospice team, but that there is more research in how to prepare for such care. Non
hospice nurses have a stronger foundation and better understanding of death and dying with regard to
patients at this stage of life that allows them to be better equipped to initiate discussions of hospice
care. It takes special training in psychosocial support to give adequate hospice care, but the base
knowledge of nursing is more prepared for discussing end of life care with older patients than with
children. It is this ability to communicate that allows them to build the rapport that is crucial to
improving the quality of dying.
Though there have been advancements in hospice care in improving the quality and availability of
such resources, it is still underutilized, especially in cases of advanced dementia. Patients dying with
dementia who receive hospice care have better symptom management, fewer hospitalizations, and
greater family satisfaction with the care than those not receiving hospice care (Mauk, 2014). Patients
may not be aware that they

Comparing The First Emperor And The Assassin
The variation in the depiction of the First Emperor puts into question why there is not a consistent
image of such an iconic figure in Chinese history. The discrepancies of this historical figure is likely
due to the subjective nature of record keeping during ancient Chinese history. When the proceeding
dynasty is expected to write the historic documents of the predecessors, bias documentation is
inevitable. While Emperor and the Assassin weaves a humanistic narrative of Qin Shi Huang, Hero
hones in his ideology of peace and unification. Because the two films Hero and Emperor and the
Assassin try to illuminate the audience on the First Emperor s unification plans and interpret him in a
way that best fits the director s cinematographic purposes, this holistically adds up to two different

Hero sets the foundation of its narrative by introducing Nameless, a skilled swordsman from the Qin.
This directly plays into the director s, Zhang Yimou, message, as the focus of the film was not on the
First Emperor, but on the reason behind unification. Although some argue that Qin Shi Huang, by
definition, was a tyrant, Hero tries to shift this perception. Zhang Yimou tries to mold Qin Shi Huang
as the Mandate of Heaven who sacrifices his name to rightfully unite everyone under heaven. Despite
knowing he will be killed for the attempt. Nameless decided to abort his assassination in the end, just
like how Broken Sword did. His decision strongly conceptualizes his belief, regardless of his
treacherous years of training, on the emperor s vision for peace and unity. Evidently, film consistently
revolved around the idea that unification will eventually lead to peace among the States, and it was
idea that sold to even the most powerful

The Inefficiency of Airline Security Essay
Everyone who has gotten out of bed in the morning has been exposed to risks. Whether it be risks
from the factors around them, from themselves, or from people around them, they have faced some
kind of risk. Comparatively, risks presented by situations around them and by themselves are
considerably controllable. The risks delivered by people around them, however, are the ones that tend
to be the most formidable. When people have a determination to be destructive, they often select
targets which will stir up the most attention. Attributable to the criteria terrorists search for, airlines are
a common target for terrorist activities. One of the most memorable terrorist attacks revealed sizable

Author Nathan Means and Edmund S. Kip Hawley, former Executive Director of Governmental
Affairs for the Department of Transportation as well as former TSAAdministrator describes how one
of the requirements of the pat downs is that the TSO is required to run their hand up the passenger s
legs, up their thighs, until the officer feels that they have reached the passengers genitals (87). The
searches experienced at most airports do not even come close to how thorough they should be. The
occasional passengers who are given pat downs by TSOs who follow these requirements are the
passengers who publicly protest pat downs. For the most part, however, these types of requirements
which induce embarrassment for both the searchee and the search administrator are not followed. The
searches TSA agents are supposed to be doing, but not, are the ones that actually make people
uncomfortable. The level of search that is required for airline passengers is superfluous. TSOs
understand this, but no better solution has been presented thus far. TSA has been made fully aware of
the discomfort caused by pat downs and presented full body (backscatter) scanners as a solution, but
these scanners present biological dangers and should not be used as a main investigation method.
Backscatter scans have been considered dangerous as a result of the radiation emitted from each scan.

the tea business with its superior quality of tea enabled by continuous investments in upgrading
production and manufacturing facilities. Primarily a seller in the auction market, Goodricke now has
an equal proportion of sales in the bulk and packet tea segments, besides a significant presence in the
export market. India is the largest producer and consumer of tea in the world. Tea plantations in India
are concentrated in the North East (Upper Assam, West Bengal (and the South (Kerala, TamilNadu).
Tea production in 1998 was a record 870mnkg. Domestic tea consumption is estimated at around

has grown at a CAGR of 3%. The exportable surplus has therefore been declining over the last few

countries like India, China, Kenya and Sri Lanka Indian tea bushes are very old and therefore
productivity is quite low. This leads to a higher cost of production as compared to the same in
countries like Kenya and Malawi. While India and China have a large domestic market, other
countries mainly produce for exports. International tea prices are therefore largely linked to the tea

Causes Of Tyranny
Henry VIII, Joseph Stalin, Ivan IV, Adolf Hitler, Kim Jong II, and more are all tyrants who inflicted
tyranny on their people. Throughout history many tyrants have oppressed their citizens with unfair and
harsh treatment and have gotten away with it. Tyranny is known as a cruel, unreasonable, or arbitrary
use of power or control inflicted by an oppressive government or ruler. Even though this sadistic
behavior continues today, it doesn t in the United States of America. In 1775 to 1783, the American
Revolutionary War, also known as the U.S. War of Independence, took place. This was a conflict that
arose form growing tensions between residents of Great Britain s 13 North American colonies and the
tyrannical British Crown. In response to the callous treatment, a group of colonial delegates (including
George Washington of Virginia, John and Samuel Adams or Massachusetts, Patrick Henry of Virginia,
and john jay of New York) met in Philadelphia in September 1774 to give voice to their grievances
against the British Crown, which is formally known as the First Continental Congress. By June 1776,
with the Revolutionary War in full swing, a growing majority of the colonists had come to favor
independence from Britain resulting in the continental Congress drafting the Declaration of
Independence on July 4. The thirteen colonies officially declared their independence from the tyrant

Compare And Contrast Jefferson And Colby s Survey
At their core, both ordnance Thomas Jefferson s Land ordnance of 1785 and Thomas Colby s survey
of Ireland were attempts at surveying and quantifying absolute space with the aim of eventually
transforming it into abstract space. In Jefferson s case, the land was surveyed so that settlers and
prospectors could purchase farmland west of the Appalachian Mountains, north of the Ohio River and
East of the Mississippi River. This was done as a method of raising revenue as Congress didn t yet
possess the power to use taxation as a source of revenue. It was also carried out to minimize disputes
over land borders and to give landowners a concrete idea of the land that they owned. In Colby s

Unlike Jefferson s survey however, it was also carried out with the intent of planning and mapping the

measurement, Colby s survey employed concrete triangulation posts placed on the placed on the
summits of many Irish peaks and mountains, many of which can still be seen to this day. Another tool
developed for the survey was powerful Drummond or Limelight which produced a very intense, white
light which could be seen for miles once lit. Due to these developments, the maps finalized in 1846 at
a scale of six inches to one mile were a world first in terms of accuracy and increased detail for urban
areas. Jefferson s survey, which took place almost forty years earlier, used an arguably more primitive

The Huang He River
Esteemed members of the UNESCO Board. The Huang He River, commonly referred to as the Yellow
River is a riverine landscape that flows from the West of China to the East, through nine Northern
Provinces. (Huang He Britannica, 2011) The rivers source (the Kunlun Mountains) are located at 36°N
and 84°E and its mouth (the Bohai Sea) is located at 38.7°N and 119.9°E. Located in China, this river
should be under the state of investigation by UNESCO due to the bad pollution the region is receiving.
The area s climate is cool winters, with temperatures dropping below 0°, and short dry summers.
Created by progressive erosion, the Huang He River Valleys give insights into Ancient Chinese
Civilisations. The River is affectionately named The Cradle of Ancient Chinese Civilisation. (Yellow
River WWF, 2013). The Riverine Landscape was formed by water flow erosion from its source; the
Kunlun mountains. This erosion has created valleys where the water currently flows downstream to
the Bohai Sea. The water s colour is yellow because of the masses of the fertile Loess sediments
deposited there, but often seen other colours due to pollution. This fertile soil has meant the land and
banks is traditionally excellent for crop farming for the locals, but in modern times, excessive
pollution has devastated this ability to farm freely. The river is known as having three main sections,

Hound Dog was the beginning of Elvis Presley s rock music career with songs such as jailhouse rock
following. Presley brought a whole new type of fun to music with his unique style of dancing along
with his upbeat loud songs. It is believed that the way Presley s songs reached out to young listeners
was the kick start needed to shape rock into what it became in the late 1950 s onwards. THE
BEATLES The Beatles music was the start of modern pop rock, as we know it today. From infectious
melodies of innocent love to introspective Middle Eastern influences, psychedelic musings and talk of
revolution The Beatles were the house band of the 1960s, paralleling, and at times even spearheading,
the turbulent decade. They received amazing amounts of praise from people all over the world with
one of the biggest fan bases seen in that era. This changed the way people viewed musicians and
allowed rock music to become even more mainstream and popular. In the later years, The Beatles
brought their music into the psychedelic rock genre with hits such as I Am The Walrus and Tomorrow
Never Knows . HOUND DOG 1950 s Hound Dog is a song, which is best known as being performed

Total War During World War II
Definition:
What is meant by the concept of Total War? Total war is best described as a country s 100% effort. All
means of production and accomplishment are geared towards what is the best way to win a war.
How was WWII the maximum example of Total War? Most Allies and Axis countries, namely
Germany, had geared their economy towards pouring all their resources into the attempt of winning
the war. In no other war was this done as much as it was during World War II.
Mass Produced Warfare:
Compare the military production of the various major Allied and Axis powers during WWII. What
observations can you make about the outcome of the war based on this information? There are many
ways of defining military production, but in the broadest way, ... Show more content on

By not taking in other factors, and by looking at production amounts only, it is obvious that the Allies
would win. There was no means of resources that the Axis powers excelled in, and had few people
who fought in the war. Both sides of the war had at this time undergone industrial revolutions, had at
least somewhat equal caliber machinery. This means that it would be almost physically impossible for
the Axis to defeat the Allies.
Strategic Bombing:
What do the websites say about the effectiveness of bombing campaigns in disrupting the war effort of
the Axis during WWII? According to the majority of the information on the websites, the bombing
campaigns put in place by the Allies were not very effective. The main goal of the bombing campaigns
were to break the morale of the Axis citizens, specifically Germany. This was done by instead of fully
wiping out cities, leaving them only half damaged to show the power of the armies. However, these
bombings did little to no damage to the will of Germans. People still were willing to support the Nazi
cause. The German economy was very much destroyed, thanks to the bombing efforts, but military
production was still proceeding, as the Germans were prepared for the Total War involved. It is also
stated that as a result of the bombings, Germany s mobility was shrunken, as they could not move as
fast as they wanted.
What about the collateral damage involved? The amount of collateral damage that the

Prescriptive English Essay
Linguists and other scholars who study language do not take prescriptive grammar rules seriously. To
them, understanding the meaning and function of words is more important than correction. They belief
that language is not an empirical fact and that it is not universal, there are hundreds of dialects in a
language which means that there are hundreds of grammars as well. There is also no scientific
validation that can be done on prescriptive grammar. The majority of what native speakers know about
their language wasn t taught to them explicitly but in an implicit way through the communicative
teaching approach which is a more natural way of speaking and has more to do with whether the
message the speaker tries to convey is understood. One example of this is a very common one; a
person says Can I use the bathroom? which is grammatically wrong because of course he/she can, but
the question should be May I use the bathroom? which is asking for permission. If both of the
questions are meant to be understood in the same way by the person who is asking it and the person
who is listening, why should it be wrong? Some examples of popular, enduring prescriptive rules in
English are that a person shouldn t split infinitives, for example: He decided to quickly leave the room
you should say he decided quickly to leave the room. You shouldn t end a sentence with a preposition,
for example: which student did you talk to? you should say: To which student did you talk? Knowing

  • 2. THE BATTLE OF GUADALCANAL Essay Introduction The Battle of Guadalcanal was a very important battleground that ended the Japanese ground advancement in the Pacific area of operations. Also, after they were defeated and removed from the island it showed that they were not an unstoppable foe that resulted in boasting the confidence of the United States and its allies. The amphibious assault that occurred on Guadalcanal was the first amphibious counteroffensive for the United States after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. The Japanese were attempting to build an airfield on the island and gain a foothold that would help to protect their flanks as they continued their offensive campaign through the Pacific. General Douglas MacArthur was the Commander of the Southwest Pacific Forces and was originally thought of to command the assault. However the Navy expressed numerous concerns that MacArthur would possibly leave their carriers exposed and the result placed Admiral Chester Nimitz as the overall Commander. The mission was tasked to the 1st marine division out of North Carolina that was commanded by Major General Alexander Vandegrift. General Vandegrift received his orders to perform the amphibious assault on Guadalcanal on the 25th of June 1942. Immediately General Vandegrift realized many problems he would have to overcome. • 4. Piaget Juice Observation Essay Research report By Christopher Brockwell Abstract The theory being tested was Piaget s Conservation experiment. It involved one participant, two stools, a round table, a tablecloth, one tall tubular glass and two beaker glasses (both filled with juice). The aim of this experiment was to test whether the participant could distinguish which out of the two beakers (one tall and thin, the other short and rotund) contained the most juice. In response to the question posed, the participant responded that the tall tubular glass contained the most juice, even though both contained the same amount of juice. The child therefore has expectations about any scenario and their interpretation of the words they hear will be influenced by the expectations they bring to the situation. Much of Piaget s early work involved the clinical method children being asked questions in a somewhat unstructured way, the onus being to establish whether they understood different problems. This approach was criticised for being unscientific, with Piaget and his fellow workers eventually being more precise in their experiments. It was agreed however that Piaget posed problems in a way that young children found difficult to comprehend. (Eysenck, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That worldview is not only the lens through which one views the world, but the expression through which the world shapes how one views the world. In a way, worldview colors what we see in the world, all the while those same things are shaping that very same worldview into something new and different. Ultimately, where our hope lies always remains central to worldview. This is especially true in our view of the physical dimension. How one views the material world and human bodies in relation to human souls and the afterlife is fundamental to one s worldview. Plato, the Late Classical Greek philosopher, and Saint Augustine, the Catholic Bishop of the North African city of Hippo, both made their views on the material world and human bodies clear in their writings and dialogues. While Plato s hope rested in an ethereal bodiless existence, Augustine hoped in the redemption and reconciliation of the body through Christ. Plato made the source of his hope abundantly clear in his dialogue, Phaedo, There is good hope that on arriving where I am going, if anywhere, I shall acquire what has been our chief preoccupation in our past life (Phaedo, 67b c). Plato s ultimate hope and desire was to attain real wisdom. He had a true conundrum, however: he believed that the physical world was by very nature evil. Westermann that the salvation referred to in this chapter is brought about by the divine, miraculous transformation of a condition, the nation s oppression and impoverishment, into its opposite rather than it being brought about by an historical event. Seitz comments that by God becoming Zion s everlasting light, Zion s exaltation has cosmic, transnational consequences. I found this unconvincing in the face of the fact that we have not seen the exaltation of Zion during the period of the text. One would have to remove it entirely from history and see this as an apocalyptic text, which my passed study of Isaiah has shown not to be true. I moved on to Joseph Blenkinsopp, who as usual, did not disappoint. Here I found the historical context of this section of Isaiah. Blenkinsopp referred back to Isaiah 58 to shed light on why the vision of theophany in Isaiah 60 had not been realized. Cyrus had release the Jews from Babylonian captivity, and those who wished to had returned to Jerusalem. But the dominant frame of mind of the people being address (in Isaiah 58) is one of disorientation and disillusionment. There is corruption in the government and judicial system, and among the religious leaders. The poor are neglected. Jerusalem suffers under external pressures and internal dissention. Illnesses that require hospice care in the adult population take a more predictable pattern than in pediatric and perinatal patients. This is not to say that the process of hospice care and dying is easier for the patients, their families, or the hospice team, but that there is more research in how to prepare for such care. Non hospice nurses have a stronger foundation and better understanding of death and dying with regard to patients at this stage of life that allows them to be better equipped to initiate discussions of hospice care. It takes special training in psychosocial support to give adequate hospice care, but the base knowledge of nursing is more prepared for discussing end of life care with older patients than with children. This was done by instead of fully wiping out cities, leaving them only half damaged to show the power of the armies. However, these bombings did little to no damage to the will of Germans. People still were willing to support the Nazi cause. The German economy was very much destroyed, thanks to the bombing efforts, but military production was still proceeding, as the Germans were prepared for the Total War involved. To them, understanding the meaning and function of words is more important than correction. They belief that language is not an empirical fact and that it is not universal, there are hundreds of dialects in a language which means that there are hundreds of grammars as well. There is also no scientific validation that can be done on prescriptive grammar. If both of the questions are meant to be understood in the same way by the person who is asking it and the person who is listening, why should it be wrong? Some examples of popular, enduring prescriptive rules in English are that a person shouldn t split infinitives, for example: He decided to quickly leave the room you should say he decided quickly to leave the room. You shouldn t end a sentence with a preposition, for example: which student did you talk to? you should say: To which student did you talk? Knowing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
