In the Pacific Theatre during World War II, the Japanese created a sneak invasion against the
United States, which blindsided and obliterated one third of the US army. After the attack on
Pearl Harbor, the US military decided to counter attack at the island of Guadalcanal, making this
battle a turning point in the war. Many American soldiers lived in a world where their lives
could be over in a matter of seconds. Most of us are not able to comprehend the mental state of
the soldiers during battle. In the novel The Thin Red Line by James Jones, Private Robert Witt,
the protagonist, experiences war for the first time. Throughout the novel, he sees and does many
things which drastically change him emotionally and physically. The settings of the naval ship

Meninas. VelГЎzquez created this painting for the royal family of Spain. Picasso created 58
interpretations of Las Meninas, but each in their own unique way. He may have borrowed
VelГЎzquez s idea, but he created his own, very original, works of art around that idea. Now, the
58 pieces stand in a museum in Spain, where they are displayed to be gazed upon and to be
appreciated by other citizens of Spain. VelГЎzquez s Las Meninas is now in Museo del Prado, in
Madrid, Spain.VelГЎzquez s Las Meninas and Picasso s Versions of Las Meninas have quite a
few similarities. For starters, in both paintings there is the little princess in the middle of a
room. She is also wearing the same outfit in each painting, even though Picasso s version looks a
little more like a block. In both of the pictures, the little princess is taking what looks like a cup
from one of her ladies in waiting that is handing it to her on a golden tray. If you look closely at
VelГЎzquez s painting, you can see that the cup in the princess hand has a hint of red color, and
Picasso s also added a bit of orange color to the cup in his painting. In both pieces, you can see
that the room that the little princess stands in is dark, with different shades of dark colors, like

Never have I been so wrong in judging the Vietnamese American community. In my mind, the
model minority myth has always been in place and completely stable. I never knew that a majority
of Vietnamese American youth experienced gang related violence, extreme poverty, numerous
stereotypes, and even depression. I never knew how common all of these problems were within
their community. In addition, their problems existed even within their own families through
generational conflicts and cultural differences. These problems are real, and occur within real
families, real communities. These problems are overlooked by almost everyone, and it saddened
me that barely anyone bothered to address these problems. It was then, that I realized that I was
part of the problem. I needed to be aware of what is going on around me, and what I have to do to

Going into this unit, I was apprehensive. I had never really talked about race in a classroom

The holiday park sector employed 2,200 people in 2009 and a large number (37%) of holiday

sector is insignificant. When explored for accurate data on labour turnover in the self employed
holiday theme park sector with some employees, information was very limited. Some media
articles on turnover in a particular HTP i.e. Waihi Beach TOP 10 Holiday Resort states that their
turnover has grown strongly, averaging 17% year on year growth, and some years as high as
25%(Voxy News Engine, 2011). Since, the article does not explain the reason for the turnover but
an assumption can be made from the types of visitors at HTP, which is the employees employed at
these places, ought to be travellers on holiday work visa.
4. Wages:
Tourism is a service industry and high quality tourism experiences rely on delivery of world class
service standards. Consecutively to provide a world class service, the industry requires skilled
labour force. A tight labour market demands attractive and competitive pay rates and working
conditions. The following table shows an average wage of an employee in hospitality sector.
Although the industry is growing at standard rate the wages are relatively low for tourism sector
when compared to other sectors.
