Roles and Responsibilities

Dr. Veronica Owles, Dean of Student Services, Kendall Campus
Student Caseloads 
All 2014-1 FTIC-DE students are now assigned to a Senior Advisor. 
Campus Directors are currently reconfiguring caseloads to evenly 
distribute student caseload assignments. 
• Based on which campus senior advisors assigned 
• Based on the number of students/new senior advisor ratios (for 
example, if there are 700 2014-1 FTIC-DE students and 2 new 
senior advisors approved at a campus, each new senior advisor 
will be assigned approximately 350 students) 
• Communication is required for all transitioned students
Student Caseloads 
All FTIC-DE students will be assigned to the new senior 
advisors prior to mandatory student orientations and first 
term registration 
• Formal transition from PCA caseload at mandatory 
orientation 
• Evaluation of students’ high school records (GPA, 
standardized test scores, courses taken and grades earned) 
and non-cognitive assessments (SSI) prior to mandatory 
campus orientations 
• FTIC-non DE issues to be resolved
Senior Advisor Responsibilities 
• Full caseload management for all assigned students 
• Provide support to students to set academic goals 
• Offer career advisement and guidance, using a range of tools 
such as Focus 2, Optimal Resume and Career Coach 
• Verify program of study/academic pathway 
• Generate 2-year IEP (pathway dependent) 
• Present campus engagement opportunities 
• Monitor and consistently communicate with caseloads using 
resources such as the Advisor Checklist and Beacon
Senior Advisor Responsibilities 
• Conduct interventions and follow-up 
• Refer students to academic and student services resources 
• Serve as the main point of contact for all interactions with 
student services 
• Assist with formal transition to academic coach and mentor at 
25% college level benchmark 
• Provide ongoing support to and communication with academic 
coach and mentor for student services issues (SOAP, etc.) 
• Analyze data to identify trends and strategically set 
interventions with different student populations

Additional Information About Roles and Responsibilities

  • 1. Senior Advisor Training Additional Information about Roles and Responsibilities Presented by: Adam Porro, Director of Student Centered Services, SAI Jaime Anzalotta, Dean of Student Services, Wolfson Campus Dr. Kim McGinnis, Dean of Student Services, Medical Campus Dr. Veronica Owles, Dean of Student Services, Kendall Campus
  • 2. Student Caseloads All 2014-1 FTIC-DE students are now assigned to a Senior Advisor. Campus Directors are currently reconfiguring caseloads to evenly distribute student caseload assignments. • Based on which campus senior advisors assigned • Based on the number of students/new senior advisor ratios (for example, if there are 700 2014-1 FTIC-DE students and 2 new senior advisors approved at a campus, each new senior advisor will be assigned approximately 350 students) • Communication is required for all transitioned students
  • 3. Student Caseloads All FTIC-DE students will be assigned to the new senior advisors prior to mandatory student orientations and first term registration • Formal transition from PCA caseload at mandatory orientation • Evaluation of students’ high school records (GPA, standardized test scores, courses taken and grades earned) and non-cognitive assessments (SSI) prior to mandatory campus orientations • FTIC-non DE issues to be resolved
  • 4. Senior Advisor Responsibilities • Full caseload management for all assigned students • Provide support to students to set academic goals • Offer career advisement and guidance, using a range of tools such as Focus 2, Optimal Resume and Career Coach • Verify program of study/academic pathway • Generate 2-year IEP (pathway dependent) • Present campus engagement opportunities • Monitor and consistently communicate with caseloads using resources such as the Advisor Checklist and Beacon
  • 5. Senior Advisor Responsibilities • Conduct interventions and follow-up • Refer students to academic and student services resources • Serve as the main point of contact for all interactions with student services • Assist with formal transition to academic coach and mentor at 25% college level benchmark • Provide ongoing support to and communication with academic coach and mentor for student services issues (SOAP, etc.) • Analyze data to identify trends and strategically set interventions with different student populations
  • 6. Important Partnerships with Pre-College Advisors • Transition from high school to college • Summer bridge programs, such as Jump Start • Early engagement opportunities
  • 7. Training and Development • Focus 2 Interpretation training • SSI Interpretation training • Appreciative Advising • Communication skills • Technology skills • Student development theories • NACADA core values • Academic program knowledge
  • 8. Opportunities to Get Involved • Revisions to online orientation • Revisions to campus orientations • Sub-group membership (example, Communications Team) • Training development
