COMMON PRACTICES
0 Initial Assessment during the first week of
class.
0 Additional Online Support consists of online
monitored assignments and pre- test review
sessions.
0 Learning assistants and math lab support.
DEFINITIONS
0 The initial assessment is a short instrument
designed to assess the student’s potential to
succeed in MAT1033. It will be administered
during the first week of class thus allowing
students the opportunity to switch to a dev. math
course.
0 Additional support consists of monitored periodic
online assignments and pre-test review sessions
run by the assigned Learning Assistant.
DEFINITIONS
0 Learning Assistants are lab personnel and other
academic support personnel that will be assigned
to sections, coordinate review sessions for faculty
to whom they are assigned, and support students
in the academic labs.
COMMUNICATION PLAN
0 Flyers and other printed announcements in labs and
academic areas.
0 Use of LA’s to visit classrooms during the first week of
classes and before exams. These visits will be brief and
coordinated by the instructor of record, and their purpose
will be simply to remind students of the LA’s schedule, as
well as lab hours.
0 Instructor announcements via their academic
management systems.
0 Language in the syllabus will include additional support

COMMON LANGUAGE
On Campus Support:
In order to better assist you to succeed in this course, the campus
has academic support labs where you may meet with tutors and
receive additional assistance with your course work. In addition,
your section has been assigned a Learning Assistant who will
conduct review sessions before exams and assist you during the
semester. He/she will be visiting your classroom in the first weeks
of class to provide more information.

Monday – Thursday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Friday, Saturday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

0 Complete preparations for adjunct faculty orientation.
0 Send syllabus and flyer to students enrolled in MAT1033.

0 Assign L.A's to sections.
0 Communicate with adjunct faculty to inform upcoming orientation.
0 Complete information capsule, syllabus, and flyer for the campus adjunct faculty orientation sessions.
7/15/2014
0 Chair and lab managers complete training of LA's.
0 Provide lead advisors and all academic lab personnel information capsule.
0 Receive input from fulltime faculty.

0 Diagnostic instrument completed.
0 Rewrite syllabi to include new resources.

  • 3. COMMON PRACTICES 0 Initial Assessment during the first week of class. 0 Additional Online Support consists of online monitored assignments and pre- test review sessions. 0 Learning assistants and math lab support.
  • 4. DEFINITIONS 0 The initial assessment is a short instrument designed to assess the student’s potential to succeed in MAT1033. It will be administered during the first week of class thus allowing students the opportunity to switch to a dev. math course. 0 Additional support consists of monitored periodic online assignments and pre-test review sessions run by the assigned Learning Assistant.
  • 5. DEFINITIONS 0 Learning Assistants are lab personnel and other academic support personnel that will be assigned to sections, coordinate review sessions for faculty to whom they are assigned, and support students in the academic labs.
  • 6. COMMUNICATION PLAN 0 Flyers and other printed announcements in labs and academic areas. 0 Use of LA’s to visit classrooms during the first week of classes and before exams. These visits will be brief and coordinated by the instructor of record, and their purpose will be simply to remind students of the LA’s schedule, as well as lab hours. 0 Instructor announcements via their academic management systems. 0 Language in the syllabus will include additional support Information; an example of this language is as follows:

COMMON LANGUAGE On Campus Support: In order to better assist you to succeed in this course, the campus has academic support labs where you may meet with tutors and receive additional assistance with your course work. In addition, your section has been assigned a Learning Assistant who will conduct review sessions before exams and assist you during the semester. He/she will be visiting your classroom in the first weeks of class to provide more information. TIME LINE (dates are milestones) 5/30/2014 0 Identify resources needed. 0 Identify software platform. 0 Meet with student services to open the lines of communication. 6/15/2014 0 Create diagnostic instrument. 0 Complete flyers for labs and academic areas. 0 Complete information presentation for new student orientation. 0 Run plan by F/T faculty. 8/15/2014 0 Complete preparations for adjunct faculty orientation. 0 Send syllabus and flyer to students enrolled in MAT1033. 7/30/2014 0 Assign L.A's to sections. 0 Communicate with adjunct faculty to inform upcoming orientation. 0 Complete information capsule, syllabus, and flyer for the campus adjunct faculty orientation sessions. 7/15/2014 0 Chair and lab managers complete training of LA's. 0 Provide lead advisors and all academic lab personnel information capsule. 0 Receive input from fulltime faculty. 6/30/2014 0 Diagnostic instrument completed. 0 Rewrite syllabi to include new resources. 0 Identify Learning Assistants. By first week of section start date: 0 Planning meeting between faculty and assigned LA. 0 Introductory visit of LA’s to assigned sections. 0 Administer the initial assessment
