Vinoba Bhave was a 20th century Indian activist, social reformer, and spiritual teacher best known for pioneering the Bhoodan Movement. He was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and joined his ashram in 1916, participating in campaigns for khadi, education, sanitation, and hygiene. As a follower of Gandhi, he took part in nonviolent protests against British rule and was imprisoned. In 1954, he launched the Bhoodan Movement, encouraging wealthy landowners to voluntarily donate land to landless farmers, and later expanded it through the Gramdan movement, seeking donations of entire villages. These movements promoted social justice through voluntary redistribution of wealth and land.
