The Rail Line Extension Of The Metro Bus System
Minneapolis has been ranked as one of the worst areas in the United States when it comes to traffic.
Drivers in the Twin Cities spend an average of 63 hours per year stuck in traffic according to a 2015
survey done by TomTom, a GPS navigation company. In hopes of solving the traffic problem, the first
rail line in Minnesota opened back in 2004. Since then there has been a Green Line extension from St.
Paul to Minneapolis. The original Blue Line provided 10.6 million rides as of last year and the Green
Line has provided 12.4 million rides. Both lines have contributed to the decrease to the overall
ridership of the Metro bus system. Due to the success of the Minneapolis light rail system there has
been plans to expand it even further.
In May 2010, a southwest Green Line extension was finally approved. The southwest light rail would
extend the green line fourteen and a half miles. Adding sixteen new stations beginning in downtown
Minneapolis and running through St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Eden Prairie. The total
estimated cost for the project is $1.858 billion, costing the state of Minnesota a total of $30.3 million.
The rest of the funding comes from various sources such as Counties Transit Improvement Board,
Hennepin Country Regional Railroad Authority, Metropolitan Council, in kind land transfers, and
other local contributions. Construction is set to start in 2017 and end by 2021 if light rail is allowed to
continue. This costly project has been approved and

Summary Of Cassady Black s Mapping Hana
A daughter s relationship to her father is crucial for their overall development as a human being.
Having a present father in one s life provides structure, and gives a woman insight on how she allows
to be treated in romantic relationships. If a woman is loved by her father and sees him treat her mother
right, then she will be more inclined to seek a man with similar qualities. However, when the father
daughter relationship is unpleasant, it can take an equally negative affect on future relationships.
Sometimes we also see that a woman can likely develop impulsive/childlike thoughts without that
guidance from a father figure. This is especially true in Mapping Hana by Cassady Black, as the ghost
of Hana s father haunted her and how she navigated her relationships. In addition to her father s
haunting , Hana was also haunted by her mental illness. The combination of an unhealthy relationship
with her father and mental illness explains the events that occurred with her husband. From the first
time that Hana and Michael met, her father played a large role in how she felt about him. In her mind
she found a man that reminded her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her life with Michael was centered around the fact he resembled her father, and was an impulsive
decision she was temporarily satisfied with while riding a high . She further explained about her
impulsive episodes, Sometimes I do crazy and impulsive things, like last night, but I always come
back sooner or later and I never actually harm anyone (Black 6). It is as though her relationship with
Michael was one of those impulsive episodes that she only snapped out of ten years later. Hana also
managed to contradict herself with that quote because while she is unaware that she hurts those around
her, it still manages to happen. It could also be that like a child bored of her new toy, was on the search

Genetically Modified Organisms And Its Effect On Human Health
Over the past three decades biotechnology has evolved tremendously and in result plays a large role in
global agriculture. Genetically modified organisms, otherwise known as GMOs, has changed the way
people around the globe view the process of agriculture. The growing use of GMOs has not only
brought up questions of how it affects human health but has adversely affected local communities. The
technology used to produced GM foods is being introduced and developed rapidly with inadequate
testing. GMOs have been the key to opening the door to new discoveries and endless possibilities, but
at the same time has been noted as a possible Pandora s Box (Assouline 5). What brings up red flags is
the unknown of GMOs and the fact that they can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A well known example of this is the use of Bacillus thuringiensis, otherwise known as B.t genes,
being injected into corn. This gene enables corn to produce its own pesticides against various insects.
Traditionally, the process of enhancing desired traits in plants was done by breeding, but the
conventional methods of breeding have been found to be both time consuming and not always
accurate. This traditional method stays within the limits of nature, whereas biotechnology plays God
and disrupts natures natural course. Some examples of FDA approved GM crops include, tomatoes
and cantaloupes that have modified ripening characteristics, soybeans and sugar beets that are resistant
to herbicides, and corn and cotton plants with increased resistance to insects pests (Assouline 15). In
America, nine crops are the top commercialized GM products and sold to consumers nationwide.
These include, soy (98 percent GM), cotton (83 percent GM), canola (75 percent GM), corn (60
percent GM), Papaya (57 percent GM), alfalfa, zucchini, and yellow squash (Assouline 17). These
new technologies, raise recondite questions that should be answered before moving forward with the
advancement and use of said technology.
Plants, animals, and seeds all have innate value and can exist on its own. They are not dependent on
the value humans place on them or the various methods humans attempt to alter them. The

Moses Mendelssohn s Thoughts On Judaism
Moses Mendelssohn s thoughts on Judaism, mainly laid out in Jerusalem, Or on Religious Authority
and Judaism, were meant to show non Jews that Judaism was already compatible with enlightenment
ideas as is. He had no thoughts on changing how Jews practiced Judaism in any way. Mendelssohn
himself remained an observant Jew and felt he could do so while still studying and contributing to
secular subjects. However, early reformers believed that the practice of Judaism needed to be changed
for Jews to fit into modern times. Mendelssohn had no intention of disregarding oral law or
overturning the rule of rabbinic Judaism to which this law had given power. In fact, Mendelssohn
included oral law with the Torah as written laws that were revealed to Jews. In Jerusalem, he makes
the case that oral and written law can still be followed as divine law, but that they can no longer go
before the state law. This point does not mean that any law should not be followed. On the other hand,
early reformers were content with disregarding Talmudic law and the rabbis that ruled using it. Rabbi
Samuel Holdheim, one of the more radical reformers, claimed that Talmudic Judaism had authority
only in [its] age and therefore had no authority dogmatically or practically. So unlike Mendelssohn,
reformers did not even see the Talmud as divine law that could go along with modern state law.
Instead, reformers thought oral law and even some parts of the Torah had no place in the modern
world and needed

Summary Of Cat s Cradle And Dr. Strangelove
In the 20th century, the shadow of the Cold War hung over the world, dividing it politically and
therefore creating palpable tension. In addition to this tense atmosphere, great advances occurred in
science and technology, such as the space race and numerous inventions which launched the world
into the scientifically advanced age in which we now live. However, the abilities of these break
throughs also had negative capabilities which caused great paranoia throughout the world in the 20th
c. In both the novel Cat s Cradle and the film Dr. Strangelove, the creators Vonnegut and Kubrick,
respectively, highlight the multifaceted power of scientific progress in the context of satirical pieces of
entertainment which are intended to make their audiences aware of problems in the 20th c. world and
hopefully spark change. Vonnegut cleverly utilizes satirical elements such as exaggeration, farce, and
parody, to get across to his readers the power of science and the importance of understanding humans
roles in it. Towards the beginning of the novel, the invention ice nine is introduced as having been
created by Felix Hoenikker and is described just as a group of girls dressed in white comes to Dr.
Breed s office and sings O Little Town of Bethlehem with importance placed on the line The hopes
and fears of all the years are here with us tonight (Vonnegut 47). By pointing out the contrast between
the almost angelic singers and the scientists in the office, Vonnegut is able

The school is effective in the way that it truly values symbolism in schooling which gives them

known gospel story which depicts Jesus as being a person who looked after his flock by protecting and
guiding them which is depicted as a teachers actions guiding students in their life journey and teaching
them the ways of God. Good Shepherd need to provide opportunities for students with reflection and
discussion of human yearnings (Wedd, 2014). This can be done by teaching gospel scriptures that
focus more of present issues that students can relate to and understand effectively. Good Shepherd
shows many distinctive features of the catholic culture through their values, beliefs, symbols,
traditions and rituals which allow students to be embedded within the Catholic culture and explore the

Compare And Contrast Prepositions
Prepositions are one of the basic structures that make up the whole sentence. Even though some
sentences can hold meaning without the help of prepositions, others need it in order to be completely
understood. When first learning how to translate and interpret English to Vietnamese or vice versa,
students can face some difficulties regarding the use of prepositions. In both languages, it is
undeniable that prepositions occur at a high rate of frequency in written or spoken form; however,
they have different roles in term of characteristic and usage with a few similarities. Therefore, this
paper s purpose is to compare and contrast prepositions in English and Vietnamese to give students a
fresh perspective about prepositions and guide them how to use prepositions appropriately.
Introduction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is clearly represented in English, for many research and studies about prepositions have been
done. This, however, is not the case in Vietnamese. Prepositions, in this case, tend to be combined
with conjunctions into one class, which is relational. The question is Why is it the same thing but
different in different languages? . That was the reason that made me first think of this topic when
deciding what to write about. Throughout this paper, we will cover from the basic definition to the
usage and characteristics of prepositions in both English and Vietnamese in a contrastive view. I will
also provide some implications at the end to help students of Translating and Interpreting use

David Sehat s The Jefferson Rule Essay
In The Jefferson Rule, David Sehat outlines the history of American politics and provides exceptional
insight on the government from the Founder s points of view. More particularly, Sehat focused on the
title of the book, The Jefferson Rule, to guide him on his journey through historical reflection. As he
dug deeper into more and more historical events throughout the book, he made a point to tie each
affair back to his key point the Jefferson Rule. He did an excellent job of explaining each historical
scenario mentioned in his book and how they each demonstrated the Rule. Perhaps the most
fundamental basis for Sehat s book is this idea of the Jefferson Rule. Although I m sure there are
multiple ways to interpret it, I believe that I have unraveled the rule in a way that remains consistent
throughout the book. The rule is to make sure, if you re a politician, that your policies align with the
principles of the Founding Fathers. By having a foundation as credible and trusted as the Founding
Fathers backing your policies up, they are taken much more seriously by skeptics. This theme played a
major role throughout the book, and Sehat did an artful job of synthesizing it with many of the
historical events he spoke of. One of the major historical happenings chronicled in The Jefferson Rule
was the Civil War. In discussing this event, Sehat made a point to explain the leading causes and how
the Jefferson Rule factored into its coming. One of these main causes of division

Computer Literacy Narrative
Those were my first words. The task of creating a program which simply prints out Hello World is, by
tradition, the first one given to any new programmer. It s a rite of passage. The one seen above is
written in Java (a name you might recognize from those update notifications that never seem to leave
you alone). This little five line program has been written millions of times by those learning to be
literate with computers.
Computer literacy has played an extremely significant role in defining who I am today, in a more
unique and personal way than any traditional spoken language, and is set to define my future as well.
My ability to understand and communicate with computers is something I pride myself in greatly, and

Arlington High School is truly lucky to have Mr. Sheldon, a former valedictorian at MIT, teaching
computer science. His class was revelatory for me in my freshman year. The course was centered
around learning to code in Processing through small projects. Under his guidance, I was able to make
dinky little games using the most basic programming techniques. I distinctly remember my sense of
accomplishment upon turning in a barely playable knockoff of Line Runner for my first independent
project of the year. Now, looking back on this code gives me anxiety. It was nothing more than a
bunch of redundant global variables and if statements blasphemous! However, my programming
practices did improve slightly over the year; I was making eventually using arrays and loops to
streamline my programs. Code is truly like a language one can see the progress of their computer
literacy in the quality of the code they write. The drive to learn programming which begun in this class
has led me to spend considerable amount of my free time furthering my literacy. I ve since dabbled in
many different programming languages on my own time, such as HTML to make websites and C# in
Unity to make video games. Now, my code is a chocolatey combination of classes and abstraction

Tomatoes(Lycopene):
Tomatoes are a rich source of the antioxidant lycopene, as well as vitamin c, potassium, folate,
vitamin K and flavonoids. The beneficial effect of tomatoes is strongest for cancer of the prostate
because of the prime active ingredient lycopene. This phytochemical lycopene fights free radicals that
can cause cancer. Cooked tomatoes are the most beneficial and by eating seven to ten helpings per
week you can cut prostate symptoms by 40 % and has a beneficial effect on many other cancers of the
lung, colon, cervix, and breast. You will find lycopene in:
Cooked tomatoes

The Red Guards were a loosely constructed paramilitary movement initiated during the beginning of
the Cultural Revolution in 1966. The first Red Guard unit was established in Beijing and quickly
spread throughout China. The majority of the Red Guard members were young students in major
cities.
The original objective for the Red Guards was to overthrow and eliminate the Old Four Chinese

The Red Guards targeted literature records, classical antique documents, museums, historical sites,
intellectuals and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members who had been labeled as potential

coat ceremony is a ritual in which only medical students experience. A few years ago, I got the
opportunity to attend my sisters White Coat Ceremony, at the time I was unaware of the significance
in receiving a white coat. Later, I learned that the White Coat Ceremony, is an event put on by medical

However, the White Coat Ceremony is a relatively new ritual. The first full pledge White Coat
Ceremony took place at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Grants from the
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation helped advance the White Coat Ceremony far beyond Columbia. In
just a few years nearly every medical school in North America adopted the ceremony. It is evident that
rituals can be created. I believe it is vital for an individual to find a place for rituals in their lives, as
long as you intentionally cultivate that character for it.
A person receiving their white coat identity is altered in a variety of ways, they are now seen and
expected to act as medical professionals. The cloaking emerges from the ceremony ritual. It is seen as
a symbol of professionalism and humanism, and ensure that students commit to those virtues
throughout medical school. Accepting the white coat ensures that a medical student promises to retain
certain merits such as integrity. Integrity represents the uppermost standards of behavior while
ensuring to refuse violate any personal and professional codes. It is promising to always have respect
for your patients and their families. The acceptance of the white coat symbolizes the commitment of
improving the outcomes of patients to improve the patients overall quality of life. These qualities must
be honored throughout the student s career.

Damages On The Form Of Penalties
DAMAGES IN THE FORM OF PENALTIES
Section 73 and 74 of the Indian Contracts Act, 1872 (referred as ICA, 1872 hereinafter) provide the
basic structure for enforcement, non performance and breach of contract. This paper deals with
provisions regarding penalties on breach of the contract by one of the parties. Since sections 73 and 74
of the ICA, 1872 talk about the damages to be awarded in the case of breach and such damages shall
be predefined in the contract while drafting the same and such pre estimation shall be just and of
reasonable nature. Hence making the damages Liquidated.
LIQUIDATED DAMAGES
When parties by contract assess the damages to be paid irrespective of the actual damage are
categorized as liquidated damages. Liquidated damages can be dictated to flow in two ways
1. Either by paying the sum of money due stipulated to the other party. Or
2. By forfeiting the amount already paid by the party who breaches the contract
Liquidated damages are a genuine pre estimate of damages .
DAMAGES
According to the section 73 of the ICA, 1872 the word damages has been used
Section 73 of the ICA, 1872 says that
Compensation for loss or damage caused by breach of contract. When a contract has been broken, the
party who suffers by such breach is entitled to receive, form the party who has broken the contract,

Graphics Card display the data on the screen. These consist of small pixels but many millions of them.
So the graphics card is a translator and takes binary data from the CPU and turns it into a picture you
can see on the monitor. Unless there is an integrated GPU built in with the motherboard then this
replaces it. It s connected to the motherboard by slotting in the PCI slot which is shown with the
arrow. Also there is a power cable which is connected to it from the PSU and a cable to connect to the
monitor (VGA, HDMI and DVI). It is required in order to reduce the power output from the CPU
needed to display the image. This allows the CPU to perform other background tasks whilst the GPU
can deal with displaying the Graphical data.

An empire is a political order with two important characteristics (190). It has to have a rule over a
significant number of people all having different cultural identity and separate territories. Also empires
have cultural diversity and territorial flexibility was not only their unique character, but also their
central role in history (190). Harari says, The truth is that empire has been the world s most common
form of political organization for the last 2,500 years (191). These characteristics of how an empire
was and this quote provides how the formation of our government was made of, which eventually
what we call a democracy. Also Harari states, Empire is also a very stale form of government (191).
This shows what type of impact empires had on our modern world by just giving the foundation of a
type of government. The difference between an empire and nation, our modern world, is that empires
typically didn t work because it was not possible to rule effectively over a large number of people.
Also empires were used for destruction, exploitation, and people have the right to self determination
(191). Although a portion of that may be true empires influenced our modern world in many more
positive ways. An empire would deliberately spread ideas, institutions, costumes and norms. The

to achieve a sense of Self and
Identity. The texts I have chosen illustrate the hazards of Western religion, Rape, Patriarchal
Dominance and Colonial notions of white supremacy; an intend to show how the protagonists of Alice

If Celie looks for God in a white church or a white written Bible it is inevitable that she will encounter
a white God, therefore she must look at her immediate environment for guidance.
Celie then accepts and employs Shug s ideology that God is inside you and inside everyone else. In
her rejection of the Euro central God who doesn t listen to her prayers, Celie liberates her Self and
finds identity evident in her signing of her letters which she now addresses to Nettie. For the first time
in Celie s life, the colour people (purple) are recognized by God and she is liberated with the belief
that the colour purple/people is/are noticed as a part in God s majestic composition, and that this God
is everything and everywhere.
It is thus possible to identify Celie with the color purple by realizing that she has gone unnoticed and
is finally being noticed as she asserts her existence. This existentialist epiphany becomes manifest
when Celie writes, I m pore, I m black, I may be ugly and can t cook, a voice say to everything
listening. But I m here.

The Lee Strasberg Film And Theatre Institute
Method acting is often misinterpreted as an acting exercise where the actor becomes the character, and
keeps the persona of that character until they have completed their work. This misguided thinking has
been promoted by pop culture and even sometimes by actors themselves. The Lee Strasberg Film
Theatre Institute defines the Method as when actors use their imagination, sense and emotion to
conceive characters with unique and original behavior, creating performances grounded in the human
truth of the moment. This definition focuses more on the relationship between the actor and their
character, rather than both being one and the same. Method acting is not a new idea. It is thought to

in Brody) Actors are constantly searching for the truth behind these moments, and then use this truth
to tell the story of their character. When the truth is found, and then executed well, the actor has
reached their goal. At the end of the entire process, the actor s goal is simple: tell the story with as
much truth as possible. This is where Method acting comes into play as a way to connect to the truth,
and to translate the truth for the actor s audience. Another actor who greatly benefitted from the
Method is Marlon Brando. He is widely believed to be one of the most influential actors ever, and
turned going to the movies into a psychological experience. For some of his most famous roles in
movies such as A Streetcar Named Desire, The Godfather, and Julius Caesar, Brando utilized his own
personal emotional history to accurately portray his characters. (Thomson) An interesting aspect of the
Method that tends to be looked over, is the fact that it is actually considered to be a very masculine
and American way of acting. Few female actors have been famously successful with Method acting.
The Method is preferred by some actors because they believe it to be a more sincere way of conveying
the truth of a character and story. These actors are considered to be extremely dedicated to their craft,
since they are so willing

Satire Definition Essay
Humor, for many, is a cheap laugh and a way to brighten someone s day. But for others, humor goes
beyond that. Often times in today s world, humor is used to convey messages about dangerous or
impossible to state topics. Society allows humorists to speak about unpalatable topics since the
delivery of the message is masked. Humorists take difficult messages and use creative humor to make
them more accepted into society.
Have you ever read a statement that made you double take because it said one thing, but meant
opposite? That is called satire. Satire presents a surface level message, but really, in the subtext, the
meaning was the opposite of what it seemed. Satire is seen in the world all around us. For example A
Modest Proposal , written by Jonathan Smith is a very satirical book. During the Ireland famine, Smith
is angered by the lack of progress being made to help. To point this out, he suggest ... Show more

Hollywood is notorious for taking dangerous or impossible ideas and masking them with humor. Some
may argue that the film industry only seeks laughter using vulgarity or toilet humor. Movies such as
Click , featuring Adam Sandler highlight this immature humor. However, the same film tells a lesson
on the lack of appreciation we tend to have for the mundane aspects of our lives. It also provides a
social message about how we all too often live on auto pilot. Another film, Yes Man , is a comedy
with a similar message about living on auto pilot. After a depressing divorce, Jim Carrey decides he
will say yes to every opportunity presented in his life. This movie is hilarious, but also conveys a
message about stepping out of your comfort zone and learning to live a little on the edge. The movie
Yes Man provides a deeper message, but it also is a comedy film. Hollywood film is very effective in
providing a deeper message that only humor and comedy can

False Memory And Eyewitness Testimony
A false memory is a fabricated or corrupt recollection of an event. Memories can be false in
inconsequential and considerable ways. An inconsequential way is thinking one s coat is hanging in
the closet when it is really on a chair in the dining room. A considerable way is when there is an
implication that one was sexually abused as a child. There are factors that include misinformation that
interfere with the formation of a new memory, causing recollection to be mistaken or entirely false.
False memories can have serious implications, such as the false identification of a suspect or false
recollection during police interrogations. In regards to eyewitness testimony, the length of time

Eyewitness testimony is generally seen as reliable, but as of lately research has found psychological
factors that affect one s testimony. They are anxiety/stress, reconstructive memory, and leading
questions. A study was conducted on the impact of anxiety and life stress upon eyewitness testimony;
subjects completed self reports, an eyewitness task, and a self preoccupation scale to determine the
relationship. Results showed that anxiety and preoccupation limits the eyewitness s ability to perform;
a highly anxious individual may miss important cues that are task relevant (Seigel Loftus 1978). Other
cognitive processes like perception, imagination, and semantic memory influence reconstructive
memory the act of remembering. Bartlett s theory of reconstructive memory is understood that an
eyewitness testimony is influenced by what is learned or cultural norms. We store information in a
way that makes the most sense to us, organizing information into schemas, mental units of knowledge
that correspond to people, objects, or situations that are close to us (Wagoner 2013). When in a police
interrogation, leading questions can provide misinformation that causes the witness to question
everything they saw and whether or not they are saying the right thing. A study was conducted on a
number of subjects that saw a complex and fast moving event. They immediately after were asked
questions that suggested information that was necessarily correct due to the wording of the question

Egyptian air Force (EAF) is undergoing a prime convert in the field of technology and information
warfare which requires the steady understanding of new technology and innovation and switch of

development of organizations, training and education, leaders and personals that effectively take
advantage of the technology. Thoroughly fancy equipment is nice, technology will not achieve full

(PME) program to develop future Aerospace leaders who are able to quickly understand the
complexities of the prevailing situation and appropriately apply the highly potent capabilities of
Aerospace power to achieve the desired results most cost effectively. This paper focuses on
Professional Military Education (PME) requirements of the officer cadre in view of the transformation
of the Egyptian Air Force by 2030.
Egypt will reemerge as a major regional power in the early 21st century and its EAF organizations
capabilities will influence to a significant degree the outcome of future wars in our region. No other
profession demands more of manpower, than the military profession. It is noteworthy that, despite the
responsibilities attached to the man in uniform, very little has been written about the kind of education
that he undergoes. While EAF s vision 2030 gives the force structure in the future battlefield scenarios
it neither talks about how the EAF would be providing PME to the future leaders nor the
infrastructural requirements to meet the demands. Today, we stand a transitional period, as the

The Popular Celebration Of Pi Day
Most students of contemporary generations can recall yearly feasts of circular confections, such as pie,
cookies, and maybe spherical fruit, donated by more health conscious parents. On March 14th in
schools all over America, math teachers are sure to be celebrating the irrational number pi,
approximated to 3.14, which gives rise to indispensable formulas such as the area of a circle or
volume of a sphere. Measuring the circumference of a cookie cake may seem like a harmless festive
activity, but it contributes to a celebration that feeds into an imbalance in the American education
system. The existence of this math centered holiday shows that schools revere STEM, a catch all
acronym for science, technology, engineering and math, but other uncelebrated subjects may not be
regarded so highly. The popular celebration of Pi Day in American schools reflects how increased
emphasis on STEM education is linked to the de emphasis of the visual arts in U.S. public school
systems to the detriment of students. When students are denied art classes, they are denied a
comprehensive education. This event began when physicist Larry Shaw celebrated the first Pi Day on
March 14th, 1998, chosen for the date s (3/14) resemblance to 3.14, at his workplace, the San
Francisco Exploratorium, which carries on the tradition to this day ( Mathematical Holidays ). Since
then, the holiday moved into American school classrooms in order to promote the importance of this
number in modern day

Commercial Whaling Essay examples
Commercial whaling is a serious world issue that has always been difficult for those who are in
support and those who are against it. Each group defends their side with convincing arguments.
Morally, whaling is wrong, but do the reasons for whaling outweigh the reasons to cease the primitive
hunts? By studying the effects of whaling, realizing how culture has changed over time, and taking
note of the money that would be saved, it can clearly be seen that there is no longer a current need for
whaling to continue. Efforts have been made to try to stop whaling, but with no help from any

One of the cities that would fall under such a category would be New Bedford, Massachusetts, known
as the whaling city, it was essential to have a place where sailors could sell the meat and make a profit

In 1946 the newly formed International Whaling Commission enacted a global moratorium on
commercial whaling (Robbins). The IWC was formed in hopes of protecting whales and making sure
that whales were spared. Without enforcement of the rules and restrictions for any nations, the
problem has not gone away. Without whales the ecosystem begins to falter, the whale being one of the
vital producers, and consumers of the ocean. There are countries that refused to agree to the terms of
the moratorium, regardless of the damage such actions would cause. The moratorium permits whaling
for scientific research, and that is the mask current whaling countries hide behind (Zelko). They argue
that they are not violating any restrictions, because Article 8 of the 1946 moratorium states that
whaling for scientific research is not part of the agreement (McCurry). During the 1970 s people
began to care about the whales that were being killed faster than they could reproduce (Robbins). In
1986 whaling was officially banned, some nations ignored the ban, and still do. In 1993, meat DNA
tested at a fish market in Japan showed that whale meat was clearly being sold, but there were no
consequences. The ban made by the IWC is not

Compare And Contrast Toddlers And Teenagers
Toddlers and teenagers, when it comes to these two there are both similarities and differences. They
both are similar because they need structure, their moody and emotions, they strive for independence,
and they are always taking risks. There are also some differences between the two because of the way
you have to communicate with them, discipline, and how much attention is needed to each one. When
it comes to the two, all of these differences contribute to ho they grow up. Each child is different in
their own way, and so are the technics of how you interact with them.
Toddlers and teenagers can be so moody and emotional. The reason for this is because toddlers are
still growing, and so is their brain. They can t express how they feel therefore they react in the only
way they know how and that is through emotion. They rely on emotion to communicate. If they are
tired, hungry, sick, and or possibly need to be changed they cry, or become extremely cranky.
Teenagers are moody and emotional because they are going through so much change. Their hormones
are going crazy and they are also in school with a lot of other kids and they tend to act like the people
they are around. They are moody sometimes for no reason.
Independence is what both want. Toddlers strive to do things on their own even though they cannot.
They want to brush their teeth, get dressed, or walk to class alone. Teenagers want independent,
because they are at the age where they will eventually become a young

Socrates and True Knowledge
Writing Prompt : Socrates and True Knowledge With the notion of philosophy and the studying of
philosophy it is well known that it is powerful and dangerous. Philosophy has many reasons for its

Philosophy is used for the betterment of the world, gender, race, civilization, town, state, country, etc.

This becomes the soul of his progression to learning about true knowledge as this is a pure display of
ignorance, A pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another assumed in order to make
the other s false conception conspicuous by adroit reasoning (Vlastos 2). This will be later and
formally known as Socratic irony. Socrates goes on to develop criteria necessary for such knowledge
which drives onto the ethics of life, or the proper way on behaving. According to Socrates the criteria
is to determine whether something is right or wrong and that one shouldn t concern themselves with
the outcome but whether the act was just or unjust, which brings morality into the picture. Socrates
believed that in order for morality to exist depended on whether one had knowledge of such
definitions. So in essence, virtue is knowledge, if you know what is right, you will do what is right.
The necessity and sufficiency for moral behavior hinged upon knowing a Socratic definition. This in
the end depicts to us the difference between a life lived with pleasure or utilitarian goals, a life lived
honorably. So in reality to practice philosophy is to practice for dying and death, which is the
separation of body and soul. The soul referring to matters of ideas and intellect and body to material

  • 2. The Rail Line Extension Of The Metro Bus System Minneapolis has been ranked as one of the worst areas in the United States when it comes to traffic. Drivers in the Twin Cities spend an average of 63 hours per year stuck in traffic according to a 2015 survey done by TomTom, a GPS navigation company. In hopes of solving the traffic problem, the first rail line in Minnesota opened back in 2004. Since then there has been a Green Line extension from St. Paul to Minneapolis. The original Blue Line provided 10.6 million rides as of last year and the Green Line has provided 12.4 million rides. Both lines have contributed to the decrease to the overall ridership of the Metro bus system. Due to the success of the Minneapolis light rail system there has been plans to expand it even further. In May 2010, a southwest Green Line extension was finally approved. The southwest light rail would extend the green line fourteen and a half miles. Adding sixteen new stations beginning in downtown Minneapolis and running through St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Eden Prairie. The total estimated cost for the project is $1.858 billion, costing the state of Minnesota a total of $30.3 million. The rest of the funding comes from various sources such as Counties Transit Improvement Board, Hennepin Country Regional Railroad Authority, Metropolitan Council, in kind land transfers, and other local contributions. Construction is set to start in 2017 and end by 2021 if light rail is allowed to continue. This costly project has been approved and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of Cassady Black s Mapping Hana A daughter s relationship to her father is crucial for their overall development as a human being. Having a present father in one s life provides structure, and gives a woman insight on how she allows to be treated in romantic relationships. If a woman is loved by her father and sees him treat her mother right, then she will be more inclined to seek a man with similar qualities. However, when the father daughter relationship is unpleasant, it can take an equally negative affect on future relationships. Sometimes we also see that a woman can likely develop impulsive/childlike thoughts without that guidance from a father figure. This is especially true in Mapping Hana by Cassady Black, as the ghost of Hana s father haunted her and how she navigated her relationships. In addition to her father s haunting , Hana was also haunted by her mental illness. The combination of an unhealthy relationship with her father and mental illness explains the events that occurred with her husband. From the first time that Hana and Michael met, her father played a large role in how she felt about him. In her mind she found a man that reminded her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She further explained about her impulsive episodes, Sometimes I do crazy and impulsive things, like last night, but I always come back sooner or later and I never actually harm anyone (Black 6). It is as though her relationship with Michael was one of those impulsive episodes that she only snapped out of ten years later. Hana also managed to contradict herself with that quote because while she is unaware that she hurts those around her, it still manages to happen. Genetically modified organisms, otherwise known as GMOs, has changed the way people around the globe view the process of agriculture. The growing use of GMOs has not only brought up questions of how it affects human health but has adversely affected local communities. The technology used to produced GM foods is being introduced and developed rapidly with inadequate testing. GMOs have been the key to opening the door to new discoveries and endless possibilities, but at the same time has been noted as a possible Pandora s Box (Assouline 5). A well known example of this is the use of Bacillus thuringiensis, otherwise known as B.t genes, being injected into corn. This gene enables corn to produce its own pesticides against various insects. Traditionally, the process of enhancing desired traits in plants was done by breeding, but the conventional methods of breeding have been found to be both time consuming and not always accurate. This traditional method stays within the limits of nature, whereas biotechnology plays God and disrupts natures natural course. Some examples of FDA approved GM crops include, tomatoes and cantaloupes that have modified ripening characteristics, soybeans and sugar beets that are resistant to herbicides, and corn and cotton plants with increased resistance to insects pests (Assouline 15). In America, nine crops are the top commercialized GM products and sold to consumers nationwide. These include, soy (98 percent GM), cotton (83 percent GM), canola (75 percent GM), corn (60 percent GM), Papaya (57 percent GM), alfalfa, zucchini, and yellow squash (Assouline 17). These new technologies, raise recondite questions that should be answered before moving forward with the advancement and use of said technology. Plants, animals, and seeds all have innate value and can exist on its own. They are not dependent on the value humans place on them or the various methods humans attempt to alter them. The ... • 5. Moses Mendelssohn s Thoughts On Judaism Moses Mendelssohn s thoughts on Judaism, mainly laid out in Jerusalem, Or on Religious Authority and Judaism, were meant to show non Jews that Judaism was already compatible with enlightenment ideas as is. He had no thoughts on changing how Jews practiced Judaism in any way. Mendelssohn himself remained an observant Jew and felt he could do so while still studying and contributing to secular subjects. However, early reformers believed that the practice of Judaism needed to be changed for Jews to fit into modern times. Mendelssohn had no intention of disregarding oral law or overturning the rule of rabbinic Judaism to which this law had given power. In fact, Mendelssohn included oral law with the Torah as written laws that were revealed to Jews. In Jerusalem, he makes the case that oral and written law can still be followed as divine law, but that they can no longer go before the state law. This point does not mean that any law should not be followed. On the other hand, early reformers were content with disregarding Talmudic law and the rabbis that ruled using it. Rabbi Samuel Holdheim, one of the more radical reformers, claimed that Talmudic Judaism had authority only in [its] age and therefore had no authority dogmatically or practically. So unlike Mendelssohn, reformers did not even see the Talmud as divine law that could go along with modern state law. Instead, reformers thought oral law and even some parts of the Torah had no place in the modern world and needed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of Cat s Cradle And Dr. Strangelove In the 20th century, the shadow of the Cold War hung over the world, dividing it politically and therefore creating palpable tension. In addition to this tense atmosphere, great advances occurred in science and technology, such as the space race and numerous inventions which launched the world into the scientifically advanced age in which we now live. However, the abilities of these break throughs also had negative capabilities which caused great paranoia throughout the world in the 20th c. In both the novel Cat s Cradle and the film Dr. Strangelove, the creators Vonnegut and Kubrick, respectively, highlight the multifaceted power of scientific progress in the context of satirical pieces of entertainment which are intended to make their audiences aware of problems in the 20th c. world and hopefully spark change. Vonnegut cleverly utilizes satirical elements such as exaggeration, farce, and parody, to get across to his readers the power of science and the importance of understanding humans roles in it. Towards the beginning of the novel, the invention ice nine is introduced as having been created by Felix Hoenikker and is described just as a group of girls dressed in white comes to Dr. Breed s office and sings O Little Town of Bethlehem with importance placed on the line The hopes and fears of all the years are here with us tonight (Vonnegut 47). • 9. David Sehat s The Jefferson Rule Essay In The Jefferson Rule, David Sehat outlines the history of American politics and provides exceptional insight on the government from the Founder s points of view. More particularly, Sehat focused on the title of the book, The Jefferson Rule, to guide him on his journey through historical reflection. As he dug deeper into more and more historical events throughout the book, he made a point to tie each affair back to his key point the Jefferson Rule. He did an excellent job of explaining each historical scenario mentioned in his book and how they each demonstrated the Rule. Perhaps the most fundamental basis for Sehat s book is this idea of the Jefferson Rule. Although I m sure there are multiple ways to interpret it, I believe that I have unraveled the rule in a way that remains consistent throughout the book. The rule is to make sure, if you re a politician, that your policies align with the principles of the Founding Fathers. By having a foundation as credible and trusted as the Founding Fathers backing your policies up, they are taken much more seriously by skeptics. This theme played a major role throughout the book, and Sehat did an artful job of synthesizing it with many of the historical events he spoke of. One of the major historical happenings chronicled in The Jefferson Rule was the Civil War. In discussing this event, Sehat made a point to explain the leading causes and how the Jefferson Rule factored into its coming. One of these main causes of division ... The Popular Celebration Of Pi Day Most students of contemporary generations can recall yearly feasts of circular confections, such as pie, cookies, and maybe spherical fruit, donated by more health conscious parents. On March 14th in schools all over America, math teachers are sure to be celebrating the irrational number pi, approximated to 3.14, which gives rise to indispensable formulas such as the area of a circle or volume of a sphere. Measuring the circumference of a cookie cake may seem like a harmless festive activity, but it contributes to a celebration that feeds into an imbalance in the American education system. The existence of this math centered holiday shows that schools revere STEM, a catch all acronym for science, technology, engineering and math, but other uncelebrated subjects may not be regarded so highly. The popular celebration of Pi Day in American schools reflects how increased emphasis on STEM education is linked to the de emphasis of the visual arts in U.S. public school systems to the detriment of students. When students are denied art classes, they are denied a comprehensive education. This event began when physicist Larry Shaw celebrated the first Pi Day on March 14th, 1998, chosen for the date s (3/14) resemblance to 3.14, at his workplace, the San Francisco Exploratorium, which carries on the tradition to this day ( Mathematical Holidays ).
