Essay On Asm 34 Health And Social Care
ASM 34 Administer medication to individuals, and monitor the effects
There are several legislations relevant to the administration of medication in the care home. Although
not expected that care staffs have detailed knowledge of the legislations, they do need to be aware of
the legal difference between drugs and the legal framework that allows them to handle medicines on
behalf of the service user. The Medicines Act 1968 being the umbrella and from this several
amendments and legislations have been implemented. The following is a list of legislation that has a
direct impact upon the handling of medication within a social care setting.

A few months ago, client FH refused his medication. His mood had deteriorated over the past few
days and there were signs of him beginning to self harm. A few grazes on his arm and he had shaved
the sides of his hair off. From his Behaviour Support Plan these were a few of the key signs of him
having a relapse. One day FH appeared to have lost all mental capacity, his language was obscene,
verbally aggressive to everyone and about everyone and he totally refused all medication. I telephoned
his previous placement, a hospital, and spoke with a Mental Health Nurse who knew him very well.
The Nurse agreed with me that FH was in a downward spiral of no return and it was imperative that he
take his medication or he will need hospitalisation again. The plan was that if FH did not take
medication by the following morning that the assessment team from the hospital would visit and try to
speak with him.
I shared this information with the night staff, left contact numbers and names and the Nurse was called
the following morning.
From that day, FH has not refused his medication. I feel that he would often like to but instead mutters
to himself that he does not want to go back to that hospital. I console him but smiling and telling him
that he is doing very well and the tablets keep him well and out of the hospital.
During the time of FH s refusal, this was accurately recorded on the

Gender Roles In Antigone
In Sophocles Antigone, gender roles is a major theme throughout the play. The play was written
during the ancient Greece era, around 442 B.C. As stated in Roles of Men and Women in Ancient
Greece , during these days, men were dominant and held all the power, so women were automatically
treated as less. Antigone and Creon portray the conflicting sides between male and female, and Ismene
and Haemon foils into Antigone and Creon s actions. Antigone, Ismene, Creon, and Haemon each
show differences in behavior due to their sex versus the actions each character chooses to take.
Antigone tells Ismene about her plans to bury their brother, Polynices, which is going against Creon s
orders. Antigone and Ismene have contrasting perspectives on the idea of morality vs. law. Ismene
argues that they shouldn t interfere with man s law. This did not stop Antigone and after she made her
decision, she was compared to a man for standing up for her beliefs and was ordered to death so that
Creon could prove his masculinity. Haemon takes up for Antigone by saying that rather than being
punished, she should be honored for taking the actions that she took. The problem with him taking up
for Antigone comes into play because he is first going against his father, Creon, as well as taking the
side of a woman over the side of a man. Sophocles accurately shows how much power women and
men hold by using these characters to symbolize the differences within their gender roles and how
power impacts the

Co-Evolving with Our Microbiome
The idea that humans have power over our health has a long history in American popular culture. We
tend to believe we are the masters of our own destiny and can solve the problems of our internal
workings according to our will, power of positive thinking, upbeat attitude or a fighting spirit however
we cannot ignore our living environment and the organisms that co exist among us. As it turns out, we
share our bodies with an unimaginably vast array of organisms that seem to play a substantial role in
our well being.
Both in and on our body, there are 10 bacterial cells for every single human cell. This collection of
organisms that inhabit the human body is referred to as the microbiome and accounts for nearly 2% of
our total body weight. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
H. pylori thrives in the acidic environment of the stomach and the finding that this bacteria contributed
to the condition was remarkable news and led to the standard practice of treating peptic ulcers with
antibiotics. As a result, the rate of H. pylori induced ulcers has dropped by more than 50 percent.
(Ackerman, 2012)
Recently it was discovered that H. pylori has another job besides regulating acid. It plays an important
role in signaling our hunger. Our stomach produces two hormones that regulate food intake. Ghrelin
(the hunger hormone) tells your brain you need food and Leptin tells your brain your stomach is full.
Your ghrelin levels are high when you have not eaten for a while, which is why you are hungry when
you wake up in the morning. After you eat breakfast, your ghrelin levels decrease. Studies have shown
that H. pylori significantly regulates ghrelin levels and without it, these levels may be unregulated
which can lead to increased appetite and excessive caloric intake. Studies have shown that those who
have been treated by antibiotics to eliminate H. pylori, gained weight because their ghrelin levels
stayed elevated causing them to feel hungry longer therefor increasing their caloric intake. This
example illustrates that we may not really understand the consequences of the wide use of antibiotics.
Obesity could very well be one of those consequences. We take antibiotics to target the bad bacteria
however it affects the good bacteria too. Two

Social Media s Impact On People s Privacy
Marcia Clemmit s Social Media Explosion is about social media s impact on people s privacy, their
community activity, and their ability to socialize with real people face to face. In the first section of
the article, Marcia Clemmit explains how social media breaks the boundaries of privacy by sharing
your information online without your knowledge and how social media sells user information to
companies (Clemmit 81). Then Clemmit writes about social media s role in community engagement
and how social media changes the way one interacts with their people. People used social media in
social situations like the defense of Planned Parenthood and the black lives matter movement
(Clemmit 86). Finally, Clemmit concludes with an article about ... Show more content on

In the modern age, responsibility for adults has been thrown out of the window. Examples of this
concept of denying responsibility on the internet are websites of pure anonymity, like 4Chan. Granted,
this website is not as popular as websites like Facebook or Twitter, but it has built itself a reputation
nevertheless. 4Chan is known on the internet for both its toxic cloud they trail on the internet, with
bullying events like the Fappening , when a group of people online chose to simultaneously leak the
nude photos of either people they knew or celebrities, being commonplace, and for its tendency to
drag things into the real world. Although the website was technically not intended to be as such,
incidents of murder and child pornography happen on a daily basis. Adults also demonstrate a lack of
responsibility with popular trends being horrible exploitations like Swatting and doxxing . Swatting is
finding someone s address online, usually on a live stream for actual feedback, and reporting a crime
that never has or never will happen because of the target. The goal here is to call a local S.W.A.T team
to the target s house for nothing more than a few laughs, and because the entire attack was
anonymous, nobody can be held accountable. Doxxing is another example of internet recklessness.
Doxxing is when someone, usually a hacker or a bully of the target, figures out another person s
personal information, which can include phone numbers, addresses, or even social

For the past few years, the use of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly known as drone, has
grown quickly. Originally, drones were developed for military applications and now it is significantly
important in the technology field and society. There are certain proposals and public interest in using
drones for food and package delivery (Elzweig, 2015). This indicates that drones have diversified
from military use to consumer use, becoming a part of everyday life. However, there are several
concerns associated with implementing delivery drones, this includes organisational structure, safety
and security, privacy and airspace interference (Doa, Gopi, Maione, 2016). This report s objectives
are:
To discuss the use of drones in the future for delivery in New Zealand.
To identify the benefits of using drones.
To address potential concerns associated with using drones.
To discuss how to mitigate these concerns through application of management function, planning.

What Does It Mean To Say That Mankind Is Naturally Evil
I feel that man is naturally good because all they want is to protect themselves, their families, and to
feed their families. Also man started out at nothing so greed came into play when we became the
countries we are today. Every country has a ruler who is most likely greedy, but when we see people
who are greedy we try to make ourselves better than that pointing it out and saying what they are but
everyone is bad that in one way because the perfect human doesn t exist. I don t think mankind is truly
evil because no one is born wanting to just be evil. People who are Evil, or who we think is evil are
mostly steered in the wrong direction by people who never really noticed they were being mean to or
by parents who just didn t care to teach

Urban transformation, has been rapidly increasing at a global scale as witnessed in the past century.
Crossing the 50th percentile, the global population is moving towards inhabiting purely urban spaces.
Amid a post industrial world, it is crucial the ecological knowledge be applied to building systems to
solve urban environmental needs and concerns. Ian McHarg, in his seminal text Design with Nature,
suggests that landscape should be the overarching principle that governs urban space . The
incorporation of green infrastructure such as native vegetation, natural materials, and fabricated soils,
into urban spaces is crucial in improving overall human ecology
Fredrick Law Olmstead, a figurehead in landscape architecture, suggested a design for New York City
s Central park with human ecology in mind. Using the Victorian English country park as an outline, he
created a green space that negated the hustle and bustle of the populous city. The need for such a park
was obvious to Olmstead, providing a refreshment to both mind and nerves. Following such a model
is Teardrop Park, which successfully acts as both a refuge and restorative addition to New York City.
Located in the lower Manhattan region the park was designed by Michael Van Valkenberg.
Valkenburg and his team of associates employed McHarg s Strategy, incorporating knowledge from

The Depth Of The River Affect Its Overall Ph From Mid July...
Question: Does the depth of the river affect its overall pH from mid december 2015 to early january
2016?
Knowledge Probe: According to.epa.gov/acidrain/measure/pH.html, pH is a measure of the hydrogen
ion concentration of a solution. Solutions with a high concentration of hydrogen ions have a low pH
and solutions with a low concentrations of H+ ions have a high pH. A pH of 7 is the most neutral you
can get and 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the most basic. each level is 10 times more basic/
acidic than the previous level, for example a pH of 8 is 10 times more basic than 7, and a pH of 9 is
100 times more basic than 7. when an acidic substance reacts with a basic substance they counter each
other like mixing hot and cold water. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The blue bar grapH below it shows the pH of each of the 12 trial collected. The table below compares
the depth in inches to the pH directly, and the average of each is at the bottom of the table.
Data Analysis: On trial 5 something interesting happened where it did not match the trend of other
data points. you can see this when comparing the depth to pH with the grapHs; for example trial 1 s
depth and pH is lower than trial 2 s depth and pH, and trial 2 s depth and pH is lower than trial 3 s
depth and pH etc. that sort of trend is fluent through the data except trial 5 where depth was lower than
the previous trials but the pH was the highest collected. My data is accurate to a point but when
collecting the depth of the river it presented a challenge to get 100% accurate because it is constantly
changing; also the pH scale only measures to the hundredth of a digit. The pH Scales calibration could
also have been of slightly but all of my trials were collected under the same calibration so it does not
seem to present a change in trend but instead with the actual numbers.
Claim: When the depth on the Looking Glass river was higher it had a higher pH in late december
2015 to early January 2016.

Conflict Management Style With Others
Conflict Management Style When considering your conflict management style with others, be it;
personal or professional, we tend to use the style that seems appropriate to the conflict.
Managing conflict is a difficult task that we all face during our life time, but becoming aware of your
own characteristic style could help determine why conflicts result exactly the way they do. It helps
determine what is a healthy outcome, or not? Each circumstance is different! Interpersonal conflict is
very common with many relationships. It occurs when two people can not meet in the middle or agree
on a discussion. Cooperation is key to maintaining a healthy debate. More frequently; when dealing
with members of your own family, issues arise that include conflict and resolution. During this process
our true conflict management style appears out of thin air . (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). Our
behavior or conflict style tells a lot about us as humans. It is an important piece of life s puzzles, and
how we go about living a healthy life. Our particular path decides where conflict will lead to, or if it
could be resolved quickly with everyone feeling content. However, our non verbal behavior could
indicate when a person is upset or anoid. This is usually related to unmet needs or goals (Steve A.
Beebe, 2008, p. 191). I participated in a conflict management style quiz that was created by Reginald
Adkins to see what style I followed. The style that I tend to follow is Harmonizing.

Dream Sequences
Genre fiction or mainstream, any story or novel may require dream sequences. Dreams can show
character traits vividly, foreshadow events in the story, and add color within the narrative. Within any
story with psychic or supernatural content, dreams may even be shared. Lucid dreaming may allow a
character to make fantastic discoveries. Yet powerfully written dream sequences are rare, and many
otherwise brilliant writers slip into clichés and stylized, unmemorable or implausible passages.
What makes dream states so difficult to depict?
Surrealist painter Salvador Dali frequently explained that his bizarre juxtapositions and distorted, yet
realistic, imagery was drawn from dreams. Melted clocks, twisted leafless trees on barren landscapes,

Louisiana Creole Culture
Andreana Franklin English 1301 2A1 Ms McClelland 30 April 2018
Diversity of Louisiana Creole Culture Louisiana Creoles are persons descended from the inhabitants
of colonial Louisiana during the period of both French and Spanish rule. These imposed meanings
varied from descendants of French and Spanish aristocrats to racially mixed or to anyone of African

essential nature of this vanishing, alternative culture. Their diversity is well pronounced as a populous

Louisiana Creoles who follow the Protestant religion. Many of families share beliefs of a tribal nature

Greek Math Research Paper
Egyptian mathematics began as early as 6000 B.C. One thing the Egyptians are known for is taking
measurements with their body parts. For example, a cubit was the length from elbow to fingertips and
they often used the palm of their hand to measure land and buildings in early Egyptian times. They
also used their hands to develop a decimal numeric system based on our ten fingers. This was thought
to be the earliest developed base ten number system as early as 2700 B.C. The Egyptians used
hieroglyphic symbols to demonstrate their numbers. For example, a vertical line represented a unit, a
heel bone represented ten, a coil of rope represented hundreds, and so forth up to powers of a million.
However, they did not have a concept of place value, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greek mathematics was also much more sophisticated than mathematics that had been developed by
other cultures whereas they show the use of deductive reasoning to derive conclusions from
definitions and axioms and proved them. Greek mathematics refers to the time between 600 B.C to
529 A.D. Most of the mathematical work done by the Greeks was geometry. It is said to have started
with Thales, a famous Greek mathematician, who was the first person to lay down the abstract
development of geometry. He established what is known as Thales Theorem. Thales used geometry to
calculate the height of pyramids and find the distance from ships to shore. However, some say that
Pythagoras deserves the true title for the birth of Greek mathematics. He is believed to have coined the
term mathematics, which is where the study of mathematics began. He established a school and was
also credited with the first proof of the Pythagorean theorem, but as we know, he remains a
controversial figure. Those these two were the start to Greek mathematics, it is obvious that it was in
no way limited to just these two men. Many more mathematical figures introduced new ways of

Cultural Identity Paper Culture in today s society has become a very big deal. Different types of
culture evolve every day, based on the new ways that are emerging and the opinions different groups
of people are coming together to believe in. Each person can socially identify with many different
cultures and subcultures based on the things they believe in and like to do. They can also be based on
things like how they were raised and the people who influenced a certain type of culture around them.

Manners and being courteous and polite is probably the biggest thing about my culture. Rudeness and
disrespect is not tolerated in my culture. We also believe in listening and understanding to work out
problems. There are many different parts of humanities, including literature art or music, which can
greatly influence a person s cultural identity. For me, music is, what I believe, the basis of my cultural
identity. Music can provide so much advice from other peoples standpoints that touches who I am
morally, and emotionally. It is what allows me to express who I am, as well as what I turn to in hard
situations. It is what I grew up around, and how I express my religion in church situations. It is also a
way for me to teach my child about different aspects of life and culture. Music is involved in every
part of my culture. Many people express their cultures differently. I think the first thing I notice about
someone s cultural identity is the way they dress, the way they greet other people, and the way they
speak. This kind of helps me get an idea of where the person comes from, maybe the culture that
makes them, and it helps me to determine how to greet and speak to them. I am ok with people

A Comparison Peter Shaffer s Equus and Albert Camus s The...
The ways in which truths are presented to external audiences concerning outside characters display
not only a good judgment of character on the presenter, but furthermore, the often insignificant nature
of whom the presenter is talking about, even if the insignificance presented is accidental. Both Peter
Shaffer s Equus and Albert Camus The Stranger approach different ways in presenting the truths of
Alan Strang and Meursault to the audience/jury, but one thing remains clear; intentional or
unintentional manipulation of these characters leads to the eternal distrust of the reliability of their
presenters, Martin Dysart and the members of the law.

Though fascinated with Alan, as the book progresses, it strays from focus on Alan to Dysart, and more
light is shone on Dysart s own problems. Shaffer gives Dysart numerous monologues, not concerning
Alan, but rather, problems and events he has experienced in his own life, though Alan has influenced
these events. In his opening monologue, Dysart keep[s] thinking about the horse! Not the boy: the
horse (Shaffer 9). Shaffer immediately confronts with Dysart s self centered nature, for from the
beginning, Dysart s mind would rather think about an animal. Nevertheless, the manipulation of Alan
is unintentional, for Dysart does not identify with Alan in order to better himself, but rather to bring to
light problems within himself, displaying further his own selfish nature. In contrast with The Stranger,
the truth is brought out and presented to its entirety to the audience, but Alan never receives a true
diagnosis. It remains up to the reader to decide what went wrong with Alan, and what caused him to
stake out the eyes of the horses. On the other hand, all kinds of faults are presented within Dysart, like
his impotence, or his inability to find something to become passionate about. Dysart begins to cross
the line when asking Alan questions concerning the events leading up to the staking of the horses eyes,
to the point of identification with Alan, and eventually, his own demise. His prying continues until he

Hinduism And Buddhism Essay
3.1.16 S.Reilly Term 2 Exam Essay In this term, I started Faith Traditions class and we learned about
the Hinduism and Buddhism and the eight elements of religion: Belief System, Community, Central
Myths, Ritual, Ethics, Characteristic Emotional Experience. The way Belief System(world view),
Ethics, and Sacredness in Buddhism can be compared and contrasted to my own philosophy is
intriguing. I believe that I agree with not all, but some of the elements of Buddhism, but where I do
differ, I differ greatly. Buddhism s World View can be summed up by the Three Marks of Reality. The
Marks are Change ( life s constant change, or impermanence ), No Permanent Identity ( no self ), and
Suffering ( dissatisfaction [with life] ) (Molloy pg. 132 134). Change is that life is always subtly
changing second to second. No Permanent Identity is that each person and each thing is not only
changing but is made up of parts that are also constantly changing (Molloy pg. 133) Lastly, Suffering
is the fact that life, when lived conventionally, can never be fully satisfying because of its inescapable
change (Molloy pg. 134). Now, my world view is similar to Buddhism and it also comprises of three

Things that are sacred in a religious sense are incredibly important to the religion(everyone in that

The struggle of making herself perfect ultimately lead to eating disorders for instance, bulimia and
compulsive exercising. In her journey from a young age to her college years she has learned better
ways to deal with negative body image through therapy. In her article, she states I was in three body
image and eating disorder groups with other young women on my campus. I was always the only
black woman. (Riley 2002, 229) This quote supports her belief that black women have body image
issues but are not open to seeking help or expressing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sirena describes a radio contest where a free plastic surgery is given away to the contestant who
describes all their insecurities and why they deserve the surgery. This type of contest allows women to
believe plastic surgery is the way to fix their body image in order to fit societal body ideals. When
women of color are exposed to this kind of statement, it enables them to believe that it is ideal to get
surgery when unhappy with your body. The last factor that influences body image is social influences,
especially family. In the Essay, Sirena often acknowledges her family s opinion of her weight. When
she lost weight family members made it known that they couldn t believe it was her and some told her
they knew she would eventually grow out of her baby fat to become a beautiful woman. Since her
weight was fluctuating, her family always had their opinions. Her grandfather offered to pay her a
thousand dollars if she lost weight. In this type of setting negative body image is inevitable.
Furthermore, at the point in her life where she lost weight people at her school started treating her
better. This shows that society only praises wat is identified as the norm. Sirena Riley has learned to
accept her body throughout her years of experiences. She believes all women s relationships with
body image should be talked about in feminism. Black women s body dissatisfaction,

Coy Wolf Research Paper
Hybridization of species in the wild is both rare and often unsuccessful. The product of hybrids are
most often sterile and unfit to survive in the natural world. North America may claim one of the most
successful hybrids of this century. The newly discovered coy wolf is a mix between two canis species,
the western coyote and the eastern wolf. This hybrid is also called the eastern coyote or northeastern
coyote. The hybrid did not arise spontaneously. Human s set up the perfect scenario to create a hybrid
from species that would otherwise be allopatric. Humans highly influenced the formation and success
of this hybrid. Without human destruction of American ecosystems, the coy wolf may have never

In the eastern United States, the white tailed deer is so abundant that it is destroying broad amounts of
herbivory. Even after legal hunting season, deer are abundant even near cities. As the coyote migrated
east, the largest and most abundant food source became the white tailed deer. The western coyote
weighs on average 20 40 lbs while the white tailed deer can weight up to 140 lbs. To take advantage of
this food source, a genetic change must occur in the coyote population. With the addition of wolf
DNA, weight and muscling is added to the slim physique of the coyote. The larger body size of
northeastern coyotes is widely accepted as advantageous for hunting large prey (Kirchman 92). The
coyotes that bred with wolves became genetically favorable over coyotes of western decent. The
northeastern coyote or coy wolf became the apex predator of the eastern region over that of the wolf
or western coyote because it is able to live off of the most abundant food source of the region. Wolves
can live off of deer also, but they are not as adaptable to industrialized areas as the coy wolf. This
hybrid can also live off of more than just deer, but almost any small game in the eastern region. They
can also scavenge from the scraps of humans such as garbage and pet

The Signalman, The Red Room and The Man with the Twisted Lip
The Signalman, The Red Room and The Man with the Twisted Lip
How do Dickens, Wells and Doyle create tension and suspense in The
Signalman, The Red Room and The Man with the Twisted Lip respectively? It is obvious that these
tales were written in the mid nineteenth century because the style of writing is very different to the
more modern techniques writers employ today. In these stories, we are told about objects which no
longer have a place in modern society, such as
the telegraph and the steam train . Therefore it was necessary to look more closely at the scripts to
identify how the authors create a sense of mystery. These are three very different mystery stories, all
of which are trying to keep the reader gripped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stories are true mysteries and can have no solutions as there are about the impossibility of ever
knowing what is real.
Dickens story The Signalman is the oldest of the three, 1866, whereas the other two are less aged and
date back to 1891 for The Man with the Twisted Lip and 1894 for The Red Room . Whilst all three
authors are attempting to hold the reader in suspense, the places in which the various tales are set have
proved to be very, very diverse.
The Signalman written by Charles Dickens in 1865. Dickens wrote this thriller a year after he had
been involved in a railway accident himself. When travelling to London, the train derailed at a high
speed killing ten people and injuring many more, consequently influencing his style of writing. He
personally knew of the terrible dangers of the new technology. Dickens used the fact that it was new
technology and a new era that no one knew what to expect in that it is always scary experiencing new
things. Back in this time, the railway was a new innovation and was cutting edge technology .
Therefore this was a very modern flavour for Dickens to choose as a setting. Also, Dickens choice of
environment is unforeseen and staggering in which he combines the earliest paranormal and the
contemporary day inventions.
There is also a very Victorian suggestion about rigid class division, it being very obvious to the
narrator that this signalman is too sophisticated to be

Analysis Of The Article Your Mother Is Your Bones ...
Critical Responses to the Novel Orville Schell wrote the article Your Mother is in Your Bones about
The Joy Luck Club. Schell starts out by giving some historical background information on China,
about those emigrating in order to escape Communism and how Asian immigrants didn t fit in
America as easily as Europeans did. He also talks about Chinatowns and other struggles immigrants
faced. He talks about the strange phenomena where Chinese Americans were bound to China by
heritage, but they had never even been there. He then summarizes the events of the novel, focusing on
June and her dynamic with her mother and the rest of the Joy Luck Club. He talks about the stories
told by each of the mothers, describing them as surreal and magical. He says that the formatting of the
novel using all the different stories places the reader into the shoes of a Chinese immigrant trying to
navigate their way to becoming more Americanized. He says that the novel could ve been written in a
patronizing way or could ve been cliché, but because of Amy Tan s skills it was written beautifully
(Schell). In John Mullan s article John Mullan on The Joy Luck Club, Mullan starts by discussing the
similarities between the game mah jong and the structure of the novel. He talks about the divisions of
four, the four players, and he talks about which characters narrated which sections. He talks more
about the narrators, mentioning that June is kind of the bridge between these two generations. He says

The Two Breed Crossbreeding System
b) Three breed cross: In this system of crossbreeding three breeds are used. The bulls of three breeds
are used in rotation in successive generations of crossbred females of the previous generation (37,55).
This is thus called the rotational crossing. This system is practiced to maintain heterozygosity and to
utilize heterosis for maternal ability of the crossbred dams (55). Three breed cross requires the input of
three separate breeds (55). Along similar principles as with backcross, all first cross male progeny are
sold. First cross females are joined with bulls of a third unrelated breed, instead of with one of the
parent breeds as in the backcross. All progeny of F1 dams are sold for slaughter (55). This system

This system is an excellent choice as it produces maximum heterosis in both the calf and cow (51). As
such, calves obtain the additional growth benefits of hybrid vigor while heterosis in the cows
improves their maternal ability. The terminal cross system is one of the simplest systems to implement
and achieves the highest use of heterosis and breed complementarities (17,44). All calves marketed
will have the same breed composition. A 24% increase in pounds of calf weaned per cow exposed is
expected from this system when compared to the average of the parent breeds.
3) BREEDING FOR COMPOSITE
Development of a composite or synthetic breed results from the crossing of two or more existing
breeds (43). There are many examples of this in Queensland: Santa Gertrudis, Drought master,
Braford, Charbray, Brangus and Belmont Red. The primary advantage of forming composite breeds is
that after the initial crosses are made, management requirements are the same as for straight breeding.

12 Dancing Barbies Essay
Barbie is, basically, a blonde, blue eyed, and a perfect looking doll that was made as a toy for young
girls. It was originally introduced in America (1959). The Barbie doll has a great influence on both
adults and children. To illustrate, for adults, Barbie doll is grounded in the notion that dolls reinstall
the oppressions of patriarchy and the detrimental aspects of capitalism in a dangerous manner under
the guise of child s play. In this regard, feminist perspectives on beauty call attention to the high value
that patriarchal society places on the attractiveness in women. Therefore, the message to women and
young girls is that beauty is a central feature of a woman s identity. Nonetheless, this significant
message assigns role for women. They are expected to be, always, nicely dressed with full makeup
and waiting for their husbands to welcome them. These women are just like the well dressed doll that

In Twelve Dancing Barbies, Jong relates the title of her article to her favourite fairy tale that was

when the twelve princesses leave beds and travel to an underground realm where they dance all night

stated that adults need a fantasy doll to create their own world where they can act spontaneously like
children in fairytales. Hence, this suggestion might reveal that adults are living in a harsh reality.

King Claudius Research Paper
Claudius is the king of Denmark and is a powerful king by showing many different uses of the power
he took. Claudius first of all gained his power from his brother who he had killed. He has kept the
murder covered up and retains his power. Claudius also married the queen who has given even more
power to his throne. Lastly, Claudius is king of Denmark and all these actions fuels the power set for
him during the play. One of the actions he took that started Claudius rule was the murder of Hamlet s
original father. The murder was covered up and not noticeable. During the play Claudius begins to feel
guilty for his actions and says, There is not rain enough in the sweet heavens to wash it white as snow
(Shakespeare 3.3.45 46). Claudius pleads for mercy and says that he wants his sins washed. This also
shows how he is now feeling guilty for hamlet s fathers murder.
Claudius also says, O, my offence rank, it smells to heaven; It hath the primal eldest curse upon, A
brother s murder. (Shakespeare 3.3.36 39). Claudius here tells of his guilt again and to him it s like a
stain that won t go away. After killing old Hamlet, Claudius retains his power as the king. Another

The 1950s Rock N Roll Movement
Introduction
The 1950s rock n roll movement was rooted from a style of music created by black people and their
descendants (Scaruffi, 2005). The lives of Americans were changed, as the older generation looked
down upon this genre and life style, while the young generation fell in love with it ( America, 2008).
Artist of the 1950s played a huge roll in the ideas that influenced every aspect of it such as legends
Buddy Holly and Little Richard. From moral changes to political changes rock n roll arrived to
America ready to make an everlasting impact (Stewart, 2008). Although the decades have passed, and
the times have changed rock n roll holds a legacy that will forever impact the lives of people as a
whole.
Foundations Of Rock n Roll
After World War 2, the world was faced with a bipolar world of the two winners: the USSR and the
US (Scaruffi, 2005). The world was left with international bitterness and resentment and unlike other
wars, a war on ideology. The war changed almost every aspect of life, because ideologies and morals
began to shift and change. The post War era had brought along with it many new technologies such as

covered by Pat Boone, and topped higher on music charts ( Music, 2004). The first rock n roll band
was formed (the Comets) by white artist Bill Haley in 1952, and they quickly began to climb
Billboard charts making the first rock n roll song to enter the Billboard charts (Scaruffi, 2005). The

Hedy Lamarr Essay
Hedy Lamarr was born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler, November 9, 1914, Vienna, Austria. She was born
to Gertrud (Lichtwitz), from Budapest, and Emil Kiesler, a banker from Lviv. Lamarr had three kids in
her lifetime; Anthony Loder, Denise Loder, and James Lamarr Markey.
Lamarr had an interest for films and acting from a young age. She was privately tutored from age 4.
By the time she was 10 years old she was a proficient pianist and dancer. She could also speak four
languages. She enrolled in Max Reinhardt s Berlin based dramatic school, at age 16. After three years
of acting her career was halted by her 1933 marriage to Fritz Mandl. Mandl prohibited her from doing
any stage or screen appearances, he also tried to destroy all prints of Ecstasy. After leaving Madl, she
went to Hollywood in 1937.
Her first English language film was Algiers. (1938) After being confined to mainly decorative roles,
she set up her own production company in 1946 hoping to secure more substantial roles. After three
years she went back to her previous ways. Landing a part in her most known film Samson and Delilah.
Hedy was an actress during MGM s Golden Age .

There were many women and children coming across the sea into America; Hedy was determined to
help. Lamarr would try to work on a device to help with the war, by herself. But she was never
successful, until she was working with composer George Antheil. Together they created a frequency
hopping device. The frequency hopping device works by rapidly changing the radio transmission on a
large number of channels. The device was invented as a way to direct missiles that could resist Nazi
jamming attempts. They received a patent in 1942, though there was no interest among the American
military until 1960 s. The device created by Lamarr and Anthiel was first implemented on Naval ships
during the Cuban Missile Crisis which caused multiple military

Fructose Intolerance And The Aldolase B Gene And Fructose
Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene and Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate
aldolase. Both are important because it is responsible for gluconeogenesis and fructose metabolism.
Gluconeogenesis is the metabolic pathway that results in the production of glucose from non
carbohydrate carbon substrates or the opposite of Glycolysis (Figure 1). In simple terms, a mutation
on Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate would both hinder the production of pyruvate and the production of
glucose. Fructose Intolerance is also referred to as Fructose 1 Phosphate Aldolase Deficiency. The
modified enzyme varies in its original function and structure that derived from a restricted genetic
mutation (Cox, O Donnell, Camilleri, and Burghes).
Aldolase B is classified as a Lyase, or an enzyme that catalyzes the breaking of various bonds means
other than hydrolysis and oxidation. Lyase often forms a double bond or a new ring structure. Fructose
Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene which is expressed in the liver (Malay,
Allen, and Tolan). Its molecular compound is shown in Figure 2 and has two active site residues,
Lysine and Glutamate, as well as several charged residues. The functional assignment is complex
because of the proximity of the many charged amino acids found at the active site. Figure 3 shows
where the substitution of Proline for Alanine occur at position 149 (Malay, Allen, and Tolan). The
A149P substitution is known as AP aldolase (Malay, Procious, and

Audience Appeal in Romeo and Juliet Essay
Audience Appeal in Romeo and Juliet Despite the fact that the play Romeo and Juliet was written
several hundred years ago, explain how it continues to appeal to an audience today. Despite the fact
that the play Romeo and Juliet was written several hundred years ago, explain how it continues to
appeal to an audience today. Referring to the play how does Shakespeare creates tension for the
audience? Explain the use of language and the way the actors convey suspense and excitement. Refer
specifically to Act 3 Scenes 4 and 5, to illustrate your views. The story of Romeo and Juliet appeals to
people because it contains so many things, which they can relate to. The story contains emotions such
as love (between Romeo and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The life death theme of the story can also be shown as a light dark or love death relationship. Romeo
talks about Juliet as a bright angel shining in the darkness of night, bright angel, for thou art As
glorious to this night, being o er my head, As is a winged messenger of heaven Unto the white
upturned, wond ring eyes This contrast between light dark or love death shows how closely they are
linked. Romeo and Juliet are life to each other, but their love will eventually cause their destruction.
The story starts with two Capulets, Sampson and Gregory, talking about how much the hate the
Montagues. They boast to each other about their bravery and sex appeal. Their conversation is full of
puns and sexual jokes. Sampson and Gregory then meet up with two Montague servants and a fight
begins. Next we meet another Montague, Benvolio, who tries to stop the fight. From Benvolios s first
words, I do but keep the peace. Put up thy sword, Or manage it to part these men with me. we can tell
that he is peaceful. Throughout the play people seem to trust Benvolio: Lord and Lady Montague ask
him to find out what the matter with Romeo is, and then Romeo confesses him sorrow about Rosaline
who he is in love, and later on Prince Escalus asks him to explain two deaths. These three events show
Benvoios s character as benevolent, composed and trustworthy. The fight is

Three Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion
The Boxer Rebellion was an uprising initiated in China, after the Chinese suffered many devastating
defeats at the hands of foreign powers. Originating in the 1900 s, a secret organisation called the
Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists, began carrying out attacks on Chinese Christians and
foreigners. They became known in the West as the boxers , for their martial arts fighting style. What
caused the Boxer Rebellion? There were three main causes.
The first cause for the Boxer Rebellion, was the anti foreign stance in China. As a result of suffering
humiliating defeats in both the first, and second Opium wars, China was forced to grant concessions to
foreigners. Furthermore, they had to sign the unequal treaties which allowed the West to gain a
significant amount of control over China. This left the Chinese population poverty stricken, and angry
at foreign powers. The economy became disrupted by the arrival of modernity and industrialism.
According to historian David Silbey Many Chinese worked in industries that were disrupted by the
arrival of the railroad and the telegraph. There was a sense that China s balance had been thrown out
of whack by these modern innovations, and only by destroying the innovations and the foreigners who
brought them could the balance be restored. . The Chinese regarded the West as foreign devils , and
wished to retain sovereignty and independence. They were extremely nationalistic. Mark Twain
addressed the boxer rebellion in 1900.

War Of The Worlds Environmental Disaster
Hollywood has had a history of producing apocalyptic science fiction films in which certain societies
are faced with life threatening conditions and have to look to other planets for gathering resources.
Movies such as Oblivion (directed by Joseph Kozinsky) and War of the Worlds (Steven Spielberg)
focus on aliens who arrive on Earth, looking to wipe out humankind in hopes of obtaining the planet s
food and water to sustain their own population. They are seen to be evil and greedy creatures who care
for no other species except for themselves. However, despite their attempts to take over Earth, these
resource hungry aliens eventually retreat back to their own worlds with empty hands after being
driven off by humans and their determination to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After securely locking the window, he discovers the dust had formed into an unusual pattern, similar
to a binary code for the geographical location of a certain place. Upon reaching the coordinates,
Cooper and Murphy stumble upon a NASA facility hidden from the public and find out later that it is
run by his former teacher, Professor Brand (Michael Caine), and the professor s daughter Amelia
(Anne Hathaway). The professor explains to Joe that this entire facility is a space station meant to take
off in the future to another habitable planet. However, the first mission is to find a planet, and
Professor Brand asks Joe to help in piloting a spaceship to a wormhole that has opened up near Saturn,
in order to travel light years to explore another galaxy. Joe questions his former professor and asks,
Shouldn t that energy be put into saving our home planet? Brand responds by giving Joe his own
opinion on humanity s relationship with Earth. Earth s atmosphere is 80 percent nitrogen. We don t
even breathe nitrogen. Blight does, and as it thrives our air gets less and less oxygen. The last people
to starve will be the first people to suffocate. We re not meant to save the world; we re meant to leave
it. In response to the current state of the planet, we see that

Ethical Issues In The Land Ethic By Aldo Leopold
Analysis of ethical issue In his 1949 publication titled, The Land Ethic , Aldo Leopold argued that the
land ethic expanded the boundaries of the community to also include water, soils, plant and animals.
In the process, the land ethic shifts the position of Homo sapiens from being a conqueror to being a
citizen of the land community. The relationship that people develop with land in utilizing the
Yellowstone National Park would raise concern in the context of Leopold s view regarding the link
between land and people (Leopold). The management of pack usage and preference often raise ethical
concerns. When confronted with choices between preservation and recreation, recreation has often
been considered. Extermination of wolves would seem logical

The Development of Harmony from Schumann through Brahms to...
The Development of Harmony from Schumann through Brahms to Debussy
In studying three composers, Schumann, Brahms and Debussy, it is possible through analysis, to
construct a Harmonic development through time from early 1800 s to early 1900 s. I will go about
deducing a harmonic timeline by individually looking at each composer then will conclude with a
final comparison summarizing how different harmonic elements develop with the Romantic
Movement and its progression.
The harmonic journey will start with Schumann s Kinderszenen, or Scenes from Childhood. This is a
set of thirteen reminiscences of childhood, written during a temporary separation from Clara. They are
works about children, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bar 13 (and 14) also consists of a repeated perfect cadence in C major over a C pedal in the bass. The
use of pedal here is later magnified in many of Brahms pieces, particularly in Rhapsody No.2.
In Schumann s Frightening , in bar 21, the C major chord is followed by a tritonal harmonic leap onto
a sforzando dominant seventh chord of F sharp major at beat 2. This chord, together with a rising
chromatic line heralds the return of the tonic key. Schumann has reinterpreted the chord of C major as
the Neapolitan chord (the flattened second) of b minor (the tonic), making the surprising tritonal leap
more logical than it initially seems. The original motivic material is presented exactly as it occurred in
bars 1 4 to provide an aesthetic harmonic balance to the piece. Textually, Schumann s harmony
strikingly contrasts the other pieces, for instance, there are often offbeat semiquavers in the right hand
creating a busier/more contrapuntal texture
The next harmonic platform is in the study of Brahms devices and techniques in harmony and texture.
It is important to note that Brahms, in particular, led the strongest resistance to the more extreme
tendencies of musical Romanticism in general (as epitomised by Wagner s music) and I feel this
comes across in his use of harmony. Through his diligent study and

His mood had deteriorated over the past few days and there were signs of him beginning to self harm. A few grazes on his arm and he had shaved the sides of his hair off. From his Behaviour Support Plan these were a few of the key signs of him having a relapse. One day FH appeared to have lost all mental capacity, his language was obscene, verbally aggressive to everyone and about everyone and he totally refused all medication. I telephoned his previous placement, a hospital, and spoke with a Mental Health Nurse who knew him very well. The Nurse agreed with me that FH was in a downward spiral of no return and it was imperative that he take his medication or he will need hospitalisation again. The plan was that if FH did not take medication by the following morning that the assessment team from the hospital would visit and try to speak with him. I shared this information with the night staff, left contact numbers and names and the Nurse was called the following morning. From that day, FH has not refused his medication. I feel that he would often like to but instead mutters to himself that he does not want to go back to that hospital. I console him but smiling and telling him that he is doing very well and the tablets keep him well and out of the hospital. During the time of FH s refusal, this was accurately recorded on the ... • 3. Gender Roles In Antigone In Sophocles Antigone, gender roles is a major theme throughout the play. The play was written during the ancient Greece era, around 442 B.C. As stated in Roles of Men and Women in Ancient Greece , during these days, men were dominant and held all the power, so women were automatically treated as less. Antigone and Creon portray the conflicting sides between male and female, and Ismene and Haemon foils into Antigone and Creon s actions. Antigone, Ismene, Creon, and Haemon each show differences in behavior due to their sex versus the actions each character chooses to take. Antigone tells Ismene about her plans to bury their brother, Polynices, which is going against Creon s orders. Antigone and Ismene have contrasting perspectives on the idea of morality vs. law. Ismene argues that they shouldn t interfere with man s law. This did not stop Antigone and after she made her decision, she was compared to a man for standing up for her beliefs and was ordered to death so that Creon could prove his masculinity. Haemon takes up for Antigone by saying that rather than being punished, she should be honored for taking the actions that she took. The problem with him taking up for Antigone comes into play because he is first going against his father, Creon, as well as taking the side of a woman over the side of a man. Sophocles accurately shows how much power women and men hold by using these characters to symbolize the differences within their gender roles and how power impacts the ... We tend to believe we are the masters of our own destiny and can solve the problems of our internal workings according to our will, power of positive thinking, upbeat attitude or a fighting spirit however we cannot ignore our living environment and the organisms that co exist among us. As it turns out, we share our bodies with an unimaginably vast array of organisms that seem to play a substantial role in our well being. Both in and on our body, there are 10 bacterial cells for every single human cell. This collection of organisms that inhabit the human body is referred to as the microbiome and accounts for nearly 2% of our total body weight. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... H. pylori thrives in the acidic environment of the stomach and the finding that this bacteria contributed to the condition was remarkable news and led to the standard practice of treating peptic ulcers with antibiotics. As a result, the rate of H. pylori induced ulcers has dropped by more than 50 percent. (Ackerman, 2012) Recently it was discovered that H. pylori has another job besides regulating acid. It plays an important role in signaling our hunger. Our stomach produces two hormones that regulate food intake. Ghrelin (the hunger hormone) tells your brain you need food and Leptin tells your brain your stomach is full. Your ghrelin levels are high when you have not eaten for a while, which is why you are hungry when you wake up in the morning. After you eat breakfast, your ghrelin levels decrease. Studies have shown that H. pylori significantly regulates ghrelin levels and without it, these levels may be unregulated which can lead to increased appetite and excessive caloric intake. Studies have shown that those who have been treated by antibiotics to eliminate H. pylori, gained weight because their ghrelin levels stayed elevated causing them to feel hungry longer therefor increasing their caloric intake. This example illustrates that we may not really understand the consequences of the wide use of antibiotics. Obesity could very well be one of those consequences. We take antibiotics to target the bad bacteria however it affects the good bacteria too. Two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples of this concept of denying responsibility on the internet are websites of pure anonymity, like 4Chan. Granted, this website is not as popular as websites like Facebook or Twitter, but it has built itself a reputation nevertheless. 4Chan is known on the internet for both its toxic cloud they trail on the internet, with bullying events like the Fappening , when a group of people online chose to simultaneously leak the nude photos of either people they knew or celebrities, being commonplace, and for its tendency to drag things into the real world. Although the website was technically not intended to be as such, incidents of murder and child pornography happen on a daily basis. Adults also demonstrate a lack of responsibility with popular trends being horrible exploitations like Swatting and doxxing . Swatting is finding someone s address online, usually on a live stream for actual feedback, and reporting a crime that never has or never will happen because of the target. The goal here is to call a local S.W.A.T team to the target s house for nothing more than a few laughs, and because the entire attack was anonymous, nobody can be held accountable. Doxxing is another example of internet recklessness. The Importance Of Landscape Architecture ARC252 Close Readings in Landscape Architecture Bhavika Sharma (1003417509) TA: Carlos 1C: Term Essay Urban transformation, has been rapidly increasing at a global scale as witnessed in the past century. Crossing the 50th percentile, the global population is moving towards inhabiting purely urban spaces. Amid a post industrial world, it is crucial the ecological knowledge be applied to building systems to solve urban environmental needs and concerns. Ian McHarg, in his seminal text Design with Nature, suggests that landscape should be the overarching principle that governs urban space . The incorporation of green infrastructure such as native vegetation, natural materials, and fabricated soils, into urban spaces is crucial in improving overall human ecology Fredrick Law Olmstead, a figurehead in landscape architecture, suggested a design for New York City s Central park with human ecology in mind. Using the Victorian English country park as an outline, he created a green space that negated the hustle and bustle of the populous city. The need for such a park was obvious to Olmstead, providing a refreshment to both mind and nerves. Following such a model is Teardrop Park, which successfully acts as both a refuge and restorative addition to New York City. Located in the lower Manhattan region the park was designed by Michael Van Valkenberg. Knowledge Probe: According to.epa.gov/acidrain/measure/pH.html, pH is a measure of the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution. Solutions with a high concentration of hydrogen ions have a low pH and solutions with a low concentrations of H+ ions have a high pH. A pH of 7 is the most neutral you can get and 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the most basic. each level is 10 times more basic/ acidic than the previous level, for example a pH of 8 is 10 times more basic than 7, and a pH of 9 is 100 times more basic than 7. when an acidic substance reacts with a basic substance they counter each other like mixing hot and cold water. ... Conflict Management Style With Others Conflict Management Style When considering your conflict management style with others, be it; personal or professional, we tend to use the style that seems appropriate to the conflict. Managing conflict is a difficult task that we all face during our life time, but becoming aware of your own characteristic style could help determine why conflicts result exactly the way they do. It helps determine what is a healthy outcome, or not? Each circumstance is different! Interpersonal conflict is very common with many relationships. It occurs when two people can not meet in the middle or agree on a discussion. Cooperation is key to maintaining a healthy debate. More frequently; when dealing with members of your own family, issues arise that include conflict and resolution. During this process our true conflict management style appears out of thin air . (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). Our behavior or conflict style tells a lot about us as humans. It is an important piece of life s puzzles, and how we go about living a healthy life. Our particular path decides where conflict will lead to, or if it could be resolved quickly with everyone feeling content. However, our non verbal behavior could indicate when a person is upset or anoid. This is usually related to unmet needs or goals (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). In his opening monologue, Dysart keep[s] thinking about the horse! Not the boy: the horse (Shaffer 9). The way Belief System(world view), Ethics, and Sacredness in Buddhism can be compared and contrasted to my own philosophy is intriguing. Change is that life is always subtly changing second to second. No Permanent Identity is that each person and each thing is not only changing but is made up of parts that are also constantly changing (Molloy pg. 133) Lastly, Suffering is the fact that life, when lived conventionally, can never be fully satisfying because of its inescapable change (Molloy pg. 134). This type of contest allows women to believe plastic surgery is the way to fix their body image in order to fit societal body ideals. When women of color are exposed to this kind of statement, it enables them to believe that it is ideal to get surgery when unhappy with your body. The last factor that influences body image is social influences, especially family. In the Essay, Sirena often acknowledges her family s opinion of her weight. When she lost weight family members made it known that they couldn t believe it was her and some told her they knew she would eventually grow out of her baby fat to become a beautiful woman. Since her weight was fluctuating, her family always had their opinions. Her grandfather offered to pay her a thousand dollars if she lost weight. In this type of setting negative body image is inevitable. Furthermore, at the point in her life where she lost weight people at her school started treating her better. With the addition of wolf DNA, weight and muscling is added to the slim physique of the coyote. The larger body size of northeastern coyotes is widely accepted as advantageous for hunting large prey (Kirchman 92). The coyotes that bred with wolves became genetically favorable over coyotes of western decent. The Signalman, The Red Room and The Man with the Twisted Lip The Signalman, The Red Room and The Man with the Twisted Lip How do Dickens, Wells and Doyle create tension and suspense in The Signalman, The Red Room and The Man with the Twisted Lip respectively? It is obvious that these tales were written in the mid nineteenth century because the style of writing is very different to the more modern techniques writers employ today. In these stories, we are told about objects which no longer have a place in modern society, such as the telegraph and the steam train . Dickens used the fact that it was new technology and a new era that no one knew what to expect in that it is always scary experiencing new things. Back in this time, the railway was a new innovation and was cutting edge technology . Therefore this was a very modern flavour for Dickens to choose as a setting. The Barbie doll has a great influence on both adults and children. To illustrate, for adults, Barbie doll is grounded in the notion that dolls reinstall the oppressions of patriarchy and the detrimental aspects of capitalism in a dangerous manner under the guise of child s play. In this regard, feminist perspectives on beauty call attention to the high value that patriarchal society places on the attractiveness in women. Therefore, the message to women and young girls is that beauty is a central feature of a woman s identity. Nonetheless, this significant message assigns role for women. One reason animals are domesticated is for their hides and their fur, which provides materials for shelter. Hides are used in teepees as well, while hair is used for plaster. Early men relied on bones and hides for tools. • 42. Fructose Intolerance And The Aldolase B Gene And Fructose Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene and Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate aldolase. Both are important because it is responsible for gluconeogenesis and fructose metabolism. Gluconeogenesis is the metabolic pathway that results in the production of glucose from non carbohydrate carbon substrates or the opposite of Glycolysis (Figure 1). In simple terms, a mutation on Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate would both hinder the production of pyruvate and the production of glucose. Fructose Intolerance is also referred to as Fructose 1 Phosphate Aldolase Deficiency. The modified enzyme varies in its original function and structure that derived from a restricted genetic mutation (Cox, O Donnell, Camilleri, and Burghes). Aldolase B is classified as a Lyase, or an enzyme that catalyzes the breaking of various bonds means other than hydrolysis and oxidation. Lyase often forms a double bond or a new ring structure. Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene which is expressed in the liver (Malay, Allen, and Tolan). Its molecular compound is shown in Figure 2 and has two active site residues, Lysine and Glutamate, as well as several charged residues. The functional assignment is complex because of the proximity of the many charged amino acids found at the active site. Figure 3 shows where the substitution of Proline for Alanine occur at position 149 (Malay, Allen, and Tolan). The A149P substitution is known as AP aldolase (Malay, Procious, and ... • 44. Three Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion The Boxer Rebellion was an uprising initiated in China, after the Chinese suffered many devastating defeats at the hands of foreign powers. Originating in the 1900 s, a secret organisation called the Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists, began carrying out attacks on Chinese Christians and foreigners. They became known in the West as the boxers , for their martial arts fighting style. What caused the Boxer Rebellion? There were three main causes. The first cause for the Boxer Rebellion, was the anti foreign stance in China. As a result of suffering humiliating defeats in both the first, and second Opium wars, China was forced to grant concessions to foreigners. Furthermore, they had to sign the unequal treaties which allowed the West to gain a significant amount of control over China. This left the Chinese population poverty stricken, and angry at foreign powers. The economy became disrupted by the arrival of modernity and industrialism. According to historian David Silbey Many Chinese worked in industries that were disrupted by the arrival of the railroad and the telegraph. There was a sense that China s balance had been thrown out of whack by these modern innovations, and only by destroying the innovations and the foreigners who brought them could the balance be restored. . The Chinese regarded the West as foreign devils , and wished to retain sovereignty and independence. They were extremely nationalistic. Mark Twain addressed the boxer rebellion in 1900. ... The relationship that people develop with land in utilizing the Yellowstone National Park would raise concern in the context of Leopold s view regarding the link between land and people (Leopold). The Development of Harmony from Schumann through Brahms to Debussy In studying three composers, Schumann, Brahms and Debussy, it is possible through analysis, to construct a Harmonic development through time from early 1800 s to early 1900 s. I will go about deducing a harmonic timeline by individually looking at each composer then will conclude with a final comparison summarizing how different harmonic elements develop with the Romantic Movement and its progression. The harmonic journey will start with Schumann s Kinderszenen, or Scenes from Childhood. This is a set of thirteen reminiscences of childhood, written during a temporary separation from Clara. They are works about children, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bar 13 (and 14) also consists of a repeated perfect cadence in C major over a C pedal in the bass. The use of pedal here is later magnified in many of Brahms pieces, particularly in Rhapsody No.2. In Schumann s Frightening , in bar 21, the C major chord is followed by a tritonal harmonic leap onto a sforzando dominant seventh chord of F sharp major at beat 2. This chord, together with a rising chromatic line heralds the return of the tonic key. Schumann has reinterpreted the chord of C major as the Neapolitan chord (the flattened second) of b minor (the tonic), making the surprising tritonal leap more logical than it initially seems. The original motivic material is presented exactly as it occurred in bars 1 4 to provide an aesthetic harmonic balance to the piece. Textually, Schumann s harmony strikingly contrasts the other pieces, for instance, there are often offbeat semiquavers in the right hand creating a busier/more contrapuntal texture The next harmonic platform is in the study of Brahms devices and techniques in harmony and texture. It is important to note that Brahms, in particular, led the strongest resistance to the more extreme tendencies of musical Romanticism in general (as epitomised by Wagner s music) and I feel this comes across in his use of harmony.
