A Prayer For Owen Meany Analysis
How many people are willing to practice their own death? Not many, right? It sounds strange, but one
person in particular was eager to do just that Owen Meany. In John Irving s A Prayer for Owen Meany,
Owen makes many sacrifices, his biggest sacrifice being his own life. In the beginning of the novel,
Owen comes across as slightly different with his minuscule size and high pitched voice, but as the
novel progresses and Owen ages, his inhuman qualities become more and more prevalent, eventually
leading to the biggest indicator of all his death. In the novel, Owen Meany is willingly able to plan the
sacrifice of his own life in order to save the lives of others, showing he is a supernatural being. Owen
Meany was predestined to be a savior for the Vietnamese children and he had been preparing for this
sacrifice his entire life. From the time he was born, Owen was always special. His parents admitted
that he was unnatural when Mr. Meany exclaimed, She just conceived a child like the Christ Child.
(Irving 545). This shows that Owen s parents did not purposefully conceive him, but he was born for a
greater purpose. Later on in Owen s life, he has a vision of his grave and how he will die, which leads
him to prepare for his death. He saw his death so vividly, he knew Johnny would be present, therefore
he involves Johnny in his practice. Johnny explains, We practiced the shot for three or four days in a
row; of course, my part in this exercise was extremely limited, but I

The Importance Of A Democratic Country Public Opinion
1. Introduction
For a democratic country public opinion is the most important determinant to establish a government
and voting is the process through which people display their opinion and help to setup a democratic
government. So the voting system should be reliable, accurate and it must be transparent.
In voting systems, three important requirements are identified:
Universal verifiability: After the election any party, including a passive observer, can convince himself
that the election was fair in the sense that the published final tally is computed correctly from ballots
that were correctly cast. Privacy: All individual votes will be kept secret from any (reasonably sized)
coalition of parties.
Robustness: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They then publicly set the 4 totals to zero by pressing the CLEAR button, after which the control unit
display shows that a total of zero votes have been cast. Workers can check this count at any time by
pressing the TOTAL button. Seals are then placed on various parts of the control unit to block access
to counting and clearing functions until later in the election process. When a voter arrives, workers
verify his or her identity and record the voter s presence by obtaining a signature or thumb print. Next,
a poll worker presses the BALLOT button on the control unit to allow one vote. This causes a green
READY light to glow on the ballot unit. The voter enters the polling booth and presses the button for
the candidate of his or her choice. A red light next to the candidate button glows, the ready light turns
off, and the control unit emits a loud beep to indicate that the vote has been cast. The red light then
turns off automatically. This process repeats for each voter. At the end of the poll, the presiding officer
removes a plastic cap on the control unit and presses the CLOSE button, which prevents the EVM
from accepting further votes. The ballot unit is disconnected and the control unit is placed in storage
until the public count, which may occur weeks later. On the counting day, the control units are
delivered to a counting center. In public view, an election official breaks a seal on the

The Cause Of Genetic Information Being Transferred By A...
Humans have been involved with genetics even before the idea of genetics existed. In the 1800s, a
monk by the name of Mendel used selection in plants and crossed them to study how traits are passed
down from parents to filial generations. Ever since then, genetics have grown over time and it has lead
to much curiosity among scientists, which have then conducted their experiments to overcome their
curiosity. That has lead to many innovations and new findings.
In the early 1920s, Fredrick Griffith conducted an experiment that proposed that bacteria are the cause
of genetic information being transferred by a process called transformation. His further researches
conducted lead him to the finding that DNA was the genetic material that passed information (Klug et
al., 2012). Avery, Mccarty and Macleod using Griffith s findings confirmed that DNA was the material
that was passed down from parents to offspring s in the form of genes. Genes are composed of alleles
that pass down traits from generation to generation.
Once alleles are inherited in a population, traits are expressed. Thus this leads to the idea of population
genetics, which is very crucial to understanding genetics. Population genetics studies the frequency of
alleles that change within a population, which influences evolution. Mathematic principles are used to
population geneticists, which predict any trends that may occur in a given population. The hardy
Weinberg principle is one of these principles.

The Epidemic Is Sweeping The Nation
An epidemic is sweeping the nation. Rapidly more cases of STD s are being noted to appropriate
health officials and are steadily increasing instead of declining. The Centers for Disease Control,
commonly known as the CDC, have vigorously tracked HIV numbers and an estimated 1,218,400
persons aged 13 years and older are living with the HIV infection ( HIV in The United States: At A
Glance ). This doesn t include the amount of people clueless to being infected at all: a whopping
156,300. Discouragingly and surprisingly enough, a factor contributing to this number is that people
aren t being informed when they engage in relations with another person who has the virus. The risk
of transmission from one to the other is excruciatingly high if one party isn t given the opportunity to
take the appropriate precautions to protect themselves. Furthermore, when a person is warned that
their partner has a transmittable disease, they aren t really equipped to make an informative decision
because of lack of information. Every citizen has an undeniable duty to take action to reduce the
spread of STD s in Arizona so that eventually these harmful diseases can be altogether eradicated for
future generations to come.
The first excruciatingly necessary step is for Arizona legislators to create a law that would bring a
person up on criminal charges if he/she didn t disclose their infected status to their partner before
engaging in intercourse. So far 24 states have laws that require a person

Different Kinds Of Polymers And Polymers
A polymer is a large molecule that is made from many small repeating chemicals called monomers. In
the Greek language, polymer literally means many parts. Polymers are being used more and more in
medical devices, such as drug delivery, screws, plates, fixation pins, suture anchors and many other
applications. Some of the most useful polymers for medical uses are poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and
poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). They are useful in medicine because of the fact that they can degrade
within the body to lesser components that will cause very minimal negative effects. Scientists have
found many different ways to control the degradation of these two polymers. Combining two or more
different kinds of monomers during polymer formation is called copolymerization. Changing the
amount of different kinds of monomers during copolymerization of either poly(lactic co glycolic)
(PLGA) or PLA can change degradation characteristics. [2] For example, combining lactic acid and
glycolic acid to make PLGA will degrade quicker. There are also stereo copolymers, such as L lactic
acid, and D lactic acid which are the same chemical, but are mirror images of each other (figure 1).
These can be combined to also lower the degradation times of PLA or PGLA. Figure 1. Difference
between L and D lactic acids (Gupta et al, 2007)
Synthesis of PLA and PLGA Synthesis of PLA is started through the fermentation of bacteria. There
are several types of bacteria that produce L , D lactic acid or a

The Effects Of Psoriasis On The Development And...
Stress as an Influencing Factor in Psoriasis,
Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease with an approximate 2 3% prevalence in the general
population. The etiology of psoriasis is not fully understood, but it appears to be multifactorial,
involving both genetic and environmental influences. Among these factors, emotional stress is
considered to play an important role in the onset and exacerbation of psoriasis.
Emotional stress may influence the development and exacerbation of psoriasis. The proportion of
psoriasis patients who believe stress affects their skin condition (i.e., stress responders ) is
considerably high, ranging from 37% to 78%. Stress may worsen psoriasis severity and may even
lengthen the time to disease clearance. Dysregulation of the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal and
sympathetic adreno medullary systems has been proposed as one possible underlying cause of stress
induced flares of psoriasis. While stress may be an exacerbating factor, psoriasis itself may contribute
to significant adverse psychological sequelae. Breaking this stress cycle may be an important part of
any therapeutic approach. Thus, stress reduction through psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy may be
useful in treating psoriasis patients who are stress responders.
Significance of Stress in psoriasis,
Researchers examined 132 psoriasis patients whose psoriasis had completely cleared with anthralin
therapy and were followed over 3 years. Fifty one patients (39%) recalled specific

When I was born in 1999 Serena and Venus Williams were on their way to becoming international
tennis stars. Apparently, my parents were avid tennis stars at the time, and so they named me Katrina,
and a few years later they named my little sister Serena. Now Serena and I have never played a game
of tennis together, in fact I don t even think she s played a game of tennis ever. I really doubt that my
parents knew that they were going to conceive another child in 2003, therefor I find this short
anecdote to be completely false. I just think my dad is old and as it was 18 years ago he s forgotten.
My dad also told me how my parents nearly settled on the names Maya and Sara. Hearing this makes
me somewhat grateful for my name, seeing as Sarah s, are a dime a dozen in this world. While I do
find the name Maya intriguing, I don t really see myself as a Maya. One aspect of my name that I love
is my middle names, and yes, I mean middle names as in two. When I was younger I thought it was so
cool to have two middle names, and my dad s story behind the first one never failed to make me feel
special.
My dad s choice of Jewel, because at the time I was as precious as a jewel. My mother rounded off my
middle name with a simple Ann, which stemmed from her middle name. Combined together they
make a somewhat unique Jewel Ann. I think I still like my middle name, its different, I think that s
why I like it. The cherry on top of the name sundae is my last name

The Dressing Of A Medical Assistant
It is very important that when a patient needs a dressing changed that it is performed correctly and
sterile. The first and foremost important step in any procedure is to perform proper hand hygiene.
Next, obtain all necessary items on a Mayo stand. Most items involved in dressings are within a
dressing packet that is enclosed until it needs to be used. The patient should be in a comfortable
position while the procedure is being done with the area with the dressing on a supported area. The
next most important step in any procedure for the medical assistant is to apply gloves. When removing
a dressing, loosen the tape and pull from both sides toward the wound. Immediately, place the dirty,

Net Neutrality
Many people worry that without net neutrality, we will lose our freedom.
Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet Service provider s should treat all content on the internet
equally. Most people in the United States of America want to keep net neutrality. However, the Federal
Communications Commission s chairman, Ajit Pai, wants to stop net neutrality, so many people are
protesting to keep net neutrality. Net neutrality promotes innovation and allows freedom, but is seen as
unnecessary by the Federal Communications Commission.
One reasons to keep net neutrality is to promote innovation. People can contribute to science and
discovery when they have full access ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most aspects of net neutrality can be achieved without forced regulations. They say Internet Service
Providers wouldn t want to alter internet content access and speeds anyway. We should trust our
Internet Service Providers. Internet Service Providers are afraid to alter the internet because they
would quickly lose many of their customers. They say net neutrality will disincentivize companies in
low income areas. We need more focus on broadband expansion instead of regulation of companies;
some companies take more bandwidth than others, so having net neutrality overloads bandwidth on
smaller companies that don t need as much. Also, authority should be restored to the Federal Trade
Commission. Internet speeds become overall slower by spreading out bandwidth. The Federal
Communications Commission has multiple reasons for thinking that net neutrality is unnecessary.
Paragraph one explains how net neutrality promotes innovation. The second paragraph explains how it
protects freedom. Paragraph three explains how the Federal Communications Commission says net
neutrality is unnecessary. Net neutrality promotes innovation and freedom, but the Federal
Communications Commission sees it as an unnecessary addition to an already stable internet. Many
reasons for siding with or against net neutrality have been given to show both sides to net

Three-Pronged Approach Analysis
Describe the three pronged approach to early detection of breast masses: mammography, clinical
breast exam, and self awareness.
Early detection by screening for breast masses involves a three pronged approach: mammography,
breast self examination, clinical breast examination. Women should have a baseline mammography
screening beginning at the age forty. Women who are at a high risk for breast cancer should have a
yearly exam beginning at age the age of thirty. A mammography is an X ray that allows health care
professionals to examine the breast tissue for any suspicious areas. Mammograms can often show a
breast abnormality before it can be self detected. The clinical breast exam is performed by a healthcare
professional that is trained to recognize different types of abnormalities and risk factors. The clinical
breast exams are conducted in office, typically completed by a family physician or gynecologist at
your annual exam. A self breast exam is something women should do once a month at home. Breast

Elliot, J.H., Imperial Spain: 1469 1716. London: Penguin Books, 1963. 423pgs. In Imperial Spain,
J.H. Elliot examines the history of early modern Spain from the reign of the Catholic Monarchs,
Isabella and Ferdinand, to the reformation of the Spanish government by the first member of the
Bourbon dynasty. According to the author, at the start of the 15th century, Spain was internally weak,
hopelessly divided and isolated from the continent by the Pyrenees. Yet, by 1492, Spanish society
experienced a tremendous transformation which allowed Isabella and Ferdinand to unify the country,
secure the largest transoceanic empire the world has ever known, and for a ... Show more content on

Aragon, the author states, was mostly left out of the affairs of empire and it turned its attention to its
Mediterranean possessions.
While it is true that Ferdinand interfered little with Isabella s handling of Castilian affairs, Elliot
asserts in Chapter Four ( The Imperial Destiny ) that certain key issues were handled jointly by the
monarchs. This was evident in the concessions that they were able to extract from the Vatican.
Patronato Real, or the right of presentation to all ecclesiastical benefices in the Kingdom of Granada
was granted to the sovereigns of Spain by Pope Innocent VIII while the Reconquista was still ongoing.
Eventually, the author goes on to say, this right would be extended to all Spanish domains. This gave
the rulers of Spain almost complete control of the Catholic Church in their territories and in time, the
clergy would become the most efficient of bureaucrats and administrators of the Spanish empire.
Chapter Five is entitled The Government and the Economy of the Reign of Charles V and in it Elliot
argues that after Ferdinand s death in 1516, his successor Charles I of Spain, V of the Holy Roman
Empire, inherited a thriving, pacified, quasi united kingdom that had access to the incredible wealth of
the Americas. The problem, the author suggests, was that Charles and his successors did not fully
understand the complexity of the Spanish system they inherited.

The Physics in Lacrosse
Lacrosse is a team sport that originated in the St. Lawrence Valley area, around 1546. It is played with
a small rubber ball, a long stick with a sort of basket at the end, and padding (it is a contact sport). The
objective of the game is to shoot the ball into the other team s goal, using the stick to pass, cradle and
shoot. At first, the game was played on a distance of even several miles, and anywhere between 100
and 100000 players in a single game. The teams are now composed of ten players each, 3 of them are
offense, 3 defense, 3 midfielders, that can go anywhere on the field, and one goalie, which is the heart
of the team. In this essay I will focus on the physics that stand behind lacrosse, and how companies
that make lacrosse gear use our knowledge and understanding of forces to make padding and helmets
that are safer, and sticks that are made for different kinds of play styles (contact defense, precision,
fast offense...).
Head of the Lacrosse Stick Field Lacrosse Head Box Lacrosse Head Native American Lacrosse Head
The design of a Lacrosse head impacts the game in a great way, because the pocket of the Lacrosse
stick affects how the ball comes out of the stick. During a shot the kinetic energy of the shaft is
transferred into the head, which in turn stretches the mesh (elastic energy), and transfers it to the ball
as k. energy. The shooting strings in the mesh (the 3 big ones that look like shoe laces) turn the force
the ball has and turns it into angular

The Myth Of Co Parenting By Hope Edelman Analysis
Marriage has been constantly changing over the past centuries. Currently, trends in marriage have
adopted a new way of getting married through splitting responsibilities and work, resulting in social
freedom for individuals. The Myth of Co Parenting, by Hope Edelman demonstrates the difficulties of
taking all the responsibilities while in My Problem with Her Anger, explains the needs of having a
better understanding of each other. Due to marriage changing over the last centuries, marriage couples
desire individuals expectations and freedom to be met in marriage.
While both authors stand on the idea of marriage changing in roles, Hope Edelman in The Myth of Co
Parenting: How It Was Supposed to Be. How It Was, inserts her view about marriage in her own
experience that shows her attitude on marriage mainly through her husband leaving all the
responsibility toward her. When parents are not there for their kids, often times kids feel unattached
with their parents creating a weaker bond. Edelman s frustration came from having a dream of
marrying happily to having it demolished.
On the other hand, Eric Bartels in his article My problem with Her Anger, explained the difficulties he
had when his wife was nagging him all the time. His assumption toward marriage has declined as his
marriage went from being good to his wife as she trigger madness inside of her all the time. He
explained his attitude toward his marriage when his wife gets mad all the time. If this is my castle, it is
under siege. From within. ( 59) Bartels through saying this displayed his attitude his marriage as a
castle looked like it s perfectly fine, but from the inside it s chaos displayed.
The assumption both articles shared the the individual expectation of spouses in the relationship.
Edelman explains that loyalty and devotion are undoubtedly better traits to have in a spouse, to
support the idea that marriage should be between two parents working together side by side to fulfill
their dreams. She went on further showing that her daughter needed a father who s there to support her
and have comfort in her life, unlike her parents. Both articles addresses a modern aspect of life that
marriage is changing over the years. In My

Loggerhead Sea Turtle
Turtles belong to the class Reptilia, the subclass Anapsida, and the order Testudines (Le Buff 1990).
Reptiles have repeatedly invaded marine environments with varying success and marine adaptation
has been undertaken more than once in the history of the Cheloniidae family. Marine reptiles were
particularly successful in the Mesozoic as major predators in the sea. Mesozoic marine reptiles
explored a variety of swimming styles and diets that included fish, cephalopods, other vertebrates, and
hard shelled invertebrates (Motani 2009). The earliest marine turtles appeared in the Jurassic and were
a marine species of the family Pleurosternidae known as Desmemys bertelsmanni, as well as an entire
marine family, the Thalassemyidae. The carapace of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two lineages of sea turtle survived through the Eocene Epoch 55 to 38 millions years ago (Bowen
2003). One lineage was the predecessor of the leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), the only
member of the family Dermochelyidae, and the other lineage gave rise to the six species of the family
Cheloniidae, one of which is the loggerhead sea turtle (Bowen 2003). Today, only seven or eight
species of marine turtles survive, distributed unevenly through all three tropical oceans. The modern
decline in sea turtles species is not due to inherently poor adaption to post Pleistocene conditions, but
is mainly a result of current and past anthropogenic exploitation. Additionally, the greater diversity of
sea turtle taxa in the past compared to today is also due to the disappearance of entire isolated oceans
such as the Nirobrara Sea, which was once inhabited by a diversity of seat turtle species. It is also due
to other evolutionary mechanisms. Early sea turtle lineages had a growth of experimental type species
that were more specialized, and these eventually became narrowed down to modern species as
overspecialized species had a poor response to changing

Summary Of Lizabeth In Marigolds
Closely observing a character gives the readers a chance to truly understand them , their thoughts and
their points points of views. The actions that Lizabeth takes are things that need to be closely
examined to comprehend the complexity of Lizabeth s behaviors. Lizabeth, the protagonist from the
short story Marigolds by Eugenia Collier portrays unique characteristics such as being resilient,
addled and compassionate. Collier provides an ample amount of evidence that shows Lizabeth is full
of resilience. Lizabeth grew up in a life full of poverty and had conflicts arising in almost each
moment, one problem after another. Lizabeth remembers her childhood as being Sorrowful
background music of our impoverished little community, ... The Depression that gripped the nation
was no new thing to us, for the black workers of rural Maryland had always been depressed, (
Applebee 76). Lizabeth is saying that she didn t have many resources growing up, daily procedures
became a conflict and they had to find a way to survive, one day at a time. Incidentally, Lizabeth and
the rest of her small community had to find a way to overcome all the conflicts that they found
themselves in by being resilient and not giving up. To overcome all these hardships, Lizabeth gained a
grand quality, resilience. Lizabeth states, Poverty was the cage in which we all were trapped, and our
hatred of it was still vague, undirected restlessness of the zoo bred flamingo who knows that nature

The Ways Of Protecting Walls
Walls
These are the part of any structure which bears the ultimate load both from the windward and leeward
side. The whole structure collapses if they fail, therefore proper care should be taken while
constructing them.
The ways of protecting walls are:
Reinforcing the walls with the help of concrete bands and vertical reinforcing bars and lateral ties.
For improving the lateral load resistance of long walls, buttresses should be provided.
Using Ferro cement plating around the exterior perimeter if horizontal bands could not be provided.
Undesirable openings near the corner to be closed so as to improve the strength of the cross walls.
The individual structures like roof and foundation should be properly braced and anchored with the
walls.
Planning of Settlements
Row planning should be avoided as it focuses the maximum wind pressure on the windward side of
the outermost settlement. Zigzag planning of the trees should be done so that they can divert the wind
pressure. Building houses in valleys protects them from high velocity winds. In areas of high velocity
winds houses should be built on stilts or artificial raised earth mounds as shown in the figure.
Symmetric design of houses protects them from unequal application of high intensity pressure.
Non Structural Measures
Risk Mapping
The process of identifying high risk areas by correlating a hazard to the terrain and to the probability
of occurrence. The results of these analyses are usually presented in the

Aerodynamics, A Subset Of Fluid Dynamics
Aerodynamics, a subset of fluid dynamics, is the study of the behavior of objects when exposed to air.
Hydrodynamics, another subset of fluid dynamics, is very similar to aerodynamics and has similar
laws. However, hydrodynamics shows the behavior of liquids instead of gasses. Reynolds Numbers,
created by British scientist and engineer Osborne Reynolds, describe the way fluids behave against
objects. Bernoulli s principle, discovered by Daniel Bernoulli, states that faster fluid flow creates
lower pressure, and slower fluid flow creates higher pressure.
There are 4 main forces, drag, lift, thrust and weight. Lift is the force that counters weight. It occurs
when the pressure of the object below the object is greater than the pressure above it. The second
force, thrust, counters drag. It propels the object in a given direction and can be provided by turbofans,
turboprops, propfans, etc. on an airplane, but can also be provided for an arrow by the bowstring.
Weight counters lift and varies with mass. The greater the mass, the greater the force of weight is. The
last force, drag, counters thrust. The air particles stick to the object, creating friction and heat which
slows the object. Drag occurs everywhere where there is a fluid, with almost (practically) no effect in
space.
With the four main forces, flight can occur. There are two types of flight, powered flight and coastal
flight. Powered flight continuously uses energy to fly for periods of time, such as throwing an

Summary Of Hester Prynne By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Chapter 2 3: Hester Prynne is a young woman who was put in jail for the crime of adultery. In the first
introduction Hester is perceived as someone who does not care what other people think of her and will
stare down the barrel of a gun. The author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, compares Hester to her babe by
showing how they are both shunned by the people viewing them. Hawthorne contrats them when
Hester stands upon the scaffold with her head held high, while her babe cries out. As Hester walks out
of her prison and stands upon the scaffold for viewing and public shame, the holier than though
women gossip about Hester s sin and shames her for her sins. The men view Hester the same way, a
sinner that should be punished and shamed.
Chapter 4 5: Hester Prynne s husband reveals himself as a doctor and offers to help her and her babe.
Her husband says that he will not hurt her adulterous partner and will spare her as well and not act as
if his wife has just cheated on him. Although he has given Hester his word, Hester is still terrified by
his words. Thy acts are like mercy, said Hester, bewildered and appalled. But thy words interpret thee
as a terror! (44). Hester s husband who named himself Roger Chillingworth, he states that he tricked
Hester into a marriage where she did not love her husband and therefore he had wronged her first.
When I betrayed thy budding youth into a false and unnatural relation with my decay. Therefore, as a
man who has not thought and philosophized in

The Historical Context Of Nursing
Nursing was not always seen as a profession, therefore it is important to explore what a profession is
and its historical context related to nursing. Turkoski (1995) states that profession is a social construct
that was determined by a male worldview; only men were allowed to have professions. Over time the
concept of profession has moved beyond the gender divide and established a set of criteria that are non
gender specific. RNABC (as cited in Northrup et al, 2004) listed attributes that explained how nurses
were a profession. These attributes are, responsibility and accountability to the public, have own body
of knowledge, bound by a code ethics, provide a service to the public and is self regulating. However,
education is missing from the RNABC standards of professional development, according the Merriam
Websters dictionary (2015) a profession is, a type of job that requires special education, training or
skill and requires specialized knowledge. Bluhm (2014) adds that it is the specialized training that
allows someone to be called a nurse. Ten Hoeve, Jansen and Roodbol (2014) agree that education and
development of knowledge is the reason why nursing was raised to the professional status. It is this
knowledge development that has helped shaped what nursing is today, and has allowed nurses to share
a common worldview. Worldviews (paradigms) frame global assumptions for vocabulary, theories and
principles to direct the development of ideas for a domain (Duff, 2011

Deb Nelson Research Paper
I thoroughly enjoyed Deb Nelson s talk on Friday to our class. I liked how she told us her own
principles of marketing and how she applies them to her work. Her story of how she ended up in
marketing was interesting to me, considering she did not start off in the marketing field; she found her
success by working hard and sticking to her principles. I think that is an admirable trait in anyone in
the professional world; especially being a woman. Her life advice was also important. As a senior, I
am still experimenting with establishing my own code of conduct for the workplace. Her advice, Act

Compromise of 1850
At the time of the creation of the Constitution, the issue of slavery had been put off and avoided, a
decision that would later lead to the controversy now known as the American Civil War. The
composition, which was once the solution to problems that the Union was having, had the opposite
effect in the 1850s, when arguments and different interpretations of the Constitution resulted in
sectionalism, threat of secession, and tension between the North and the South. Abolitionists in the
North tried to preserve the Union while abolishing slavery, while southerners supported slavery in the
new territory and threatened to secede; the Compromise of 1850, especially the Fugitive Slave Law,
increased these beliefs. The Compromise of 1850 brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This man also believed in popular sovereignty, meaning the people should choose whether or not they
want to spread it. This account contradicts Document E and Emerson s views. The government was
unable to come to a compromise so that both sides would be satisfied, hence the sectionalism. The
Constitution s lack of mentioning slavery and the misinterpretations of it made it become a source of
sectional discord rather than an instrument of national unity. President James Buchanan was known to
favor the south, which is evident in his fourth annual message to Congress in 1860, as seen in
Document G. President Buchanan deals with the fact that the states were sovereign, therefore having
the right to manage slavery in their own way. He also states that the states, particularly the South, had
the right to resist the government if all peaceful measures to restore unity did not work. He also makes
the point that Congress is by no means of the Constitution given the power to use force against the
states to prevent secession. He suggests three amendments that elucidate the protection of slavery and
that could help avoid sectionalism within the Union. Poor political decisions contributed the fail of the
Union along with the Constitution. One that would fall under this category is the Kansas Nebraska

How Does Holden Caulfield See Himself as The Catcher in...
How does Holden Caulfield see himself as The Catcher in the Rye ? Most teenagers are rebels because
they do not know how to deal with the transition from childhood innocence to adult corruption. This is
a recurrent behavior displayed by the protagonist in J.D. Salinger s, The Catcher in the Rye Holden
Caulfield. The book maps the three impactful days that played a pivotal role in his life. During this
time frame, Holden got thrown out of school, ran away from his school before he was scheduled to
leave and went to New York. We do not know Holden s exact location while he is narrating the story
but it is clear that he is undergoing treatment in a mental hospital. Holden expresses his desire to

Holden told Phoebe about this one boy at Elkton Hills called James Castle who he liked. James had
committed suicide because he had said something about this very conceited boy called Phil Stabile.
Phil and his friends tormented James Castle. When James died, he was wearing a turtleneck sweater
that he had borrowed from Holden. Holden hardly knew James. He was really surprised that James
had asked for his sweater because he was a very quiet boy. All Holden knew was that his name was
right ahead of his at roll call. When Phoebe asked him to name one thing that he liked a lot. When he
thought about it, all he could think about was those two nuns that he met and James Castle. While
Phoebe was talking to Holden, he was thinking about something else. Suddenly he told Phoebe what
he d like to be. He mentioned the line, If a body catch a body coming through the rye from a poem by
Robert Burns. Holden kept picturing little children playing in a big field of rye with nobody big
around except him. And he d catch everyone if they went over the cliff by mistake. He just wanted to
do that the whole day, be the catcher in the rye . Holden sees himself as the preserver of innocence in
the field of rye. He wants to save these small innocent children from falling over and losing their lives.

Marine Biology And Wild Life Conservation
All my life I have pursued my fascination for animals and the ocean anywhere from volunteering to
going to the University of Rhode Island to getting certified in diving to teaching. With my experiences
and passion for the field of marine biology and wild life conservation I know I can make a
considerable difference in any research project.
My first substantial step toward making a career out of my interests for the oceans and all its aquatic
life was my volunteer work at the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration. When I was a
sophomore in high school I was accepted into the docent program at the Aquarium. There I was

After I started at Mystic I got involved with 2 different organizations at my high school that had a
huge focus in volunteering and giving back to the immediate community that we were raised in. The
first club is a student run volunteer organization called Vision that focused on work in our immediate
and surrounding communities. The second organization I received membership into was the Mark
Twain Chapter of the National Honors Society. This society was composed of an elite group of
students that had high regards for character, service, and education. In order to apply one had to have a
GPA of a 3.5 or higher and once you were able to apply you must have 30 recorded hours of
community service and then an essay explaining yourself in terms of character, service, and education.
Once welcomed into the society, we did volunteer work for the community and other events to help
other students improve their abilities in a variety of school topics. The volunteer work from both clubs
included helping and participating at our annual blood drive, relay for life, food drives, Christmas
present drives, helping elderly care for their lawns, and cleaning up our town s schools grounds. Each
project involved a group effort from everyone involved and we ended up making a huge difference for
our community. I still continue to help out in my community by doing beach clean ups and food
drives.

Persuasive Essay Why Do We Dream
There is a question that has baffled many psychologists and curious minds for centuries the question is
why do we dream? Do we dream to save our mind from insanity and stress or is it because it s a
natural process? There is one thing for certain though most people dream, the question is can they
remember it. The truth is all creatures can enter a certain type of REM sleep but it s uncertain if they
experience dreams on a human plane of thought. When we enter REM sleep our Rapid Eye Movement
stage of sleep the deepest part of our sleep, the human body undergoes a temporary paralysis to stop
the sleeping person from potential harmful movement. The dreaming process usually happens in this
stage, but has been reported in NREM sleep.

Does The Fruit Fly Experiment
Introduction
The purpose of this conducting this lab is to see how the rocket can be changed physically to make it
fly higher up after being launched. Not only is the rocket going to fly higher but also have to test to
see if there is a way to thoroughly protect an egg after landing to keep it from cracking/breaking.
Research on the average height a rocket flies based on the PSI used showed that the higher the PSI the
higher it tends to fly. Experimental Design
The experimental question is Will the amount of air pressure change the height the rocket flies?. The
independent variable is the amount of pressure in the rocket. The dependent variable is how high the
rocket flies. The control is a bottle with just air no water launched at 60psi.
Hypothesis
If the air pressure is raised higher than the other experimental group s air pressure then the rocket will
fly higher because of the increased force pushing off the water to make it fly higher.
Test
Materials

3 soda bottles

I predicted that the higher PSI would force the rocket to go higher. I feel as though to the results
differed from the hypothesis because the air pressure pump was broken when group 1 was launching
the rocket. Second, we could not keep all the constants the same since we had different people
building each rocket as well as each parachute. Lastly, we can t be sure the data is accurate because we
only have two group s data so we can t check the data and see if there is a pattern. Ways to improve
these errors could be to have one group work on the rockets. Another group taking all the data so one
group doesn t forget to put in the data. The last group to launch the rocket. We would also need to be
sure that all of the parachutes are the same as the math groups we worked with did not take down what
we needed to be built to match and instead did whatever they wanted to

The Giant Impact Theory On The Moon
In 1975, two scientists by the name of Dr. William K. Hartmann and Dr. Donald R. Davis, came up
with a groundbreaking new theory on how the moon was created. Their theory stated At the time Earth
formed 4.5 billion years ago, other smaller planetary bodies were also growing. One of these hit earth
late in Earth s growth process, blowing out rocky debris. A fraction of that debris went into orbit
around the Earth and aggregated into the moon (Hartmann Herres 1). This theory is known as the
Giant Impact Theory and is the accepted theory in the scientific community of how the moon was
created. Even though this theory is accepted by most, there are still some people who don t hold this
theory to be true. I agree with Davis and Hartmann s Giant Impact Theory that a great collision
occurred and created the moon. The Giant Impact Theory is supported by the lack of iron on the
moon, the moon rocks from the Apollo missions, and its acceptance in the scientific community.
Mostly every planet in our solar system has some traces of iron that can be found. But the moon is
unique, because there is little to no iron on the moon. The Moon has an abnormally low density
compared to the terrestrial planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars), indicating that it lacks high
density iron (Giant Impact Theory For Moon Formation Boosted 1). The density of the moon is 3.346
g/cm3, while the Earth is much denser at 5.52 g/cm3 (Cain 1). The moons low density correlates with
the Giant Impact

  • 2. A Prayer For Owen Meany Analysis How many people are willing to practice their own death? Not many, right? It sounds strange, but one person in particular was eager to do just that Owen Meany. In John Irving s A Prayer for Owen Meany, Owen makes many sacrifices, his biggest sacrifice being his own life. In the beginning of the novel, Owen comes across as slightly different with his minuscule size and high pitched voice, but as the novel progresses and Owen ages, his inhuman qualities become more and more prevalent, eventually leading to the biggest indicator of all his death. In the novel, Owen Meany is willingly able to plan the sacrifice of his own life in order to save the lives of others, showing he is a supernatural being. Owen Meany was predestined to be a savior for the Vietnamese children and he had been preparing for this sacrifice his entire life. From the time he was born, Owen was always special. His parents admitted that he was unnatural when Mr. Meany exclaimed, She just conceived a child like the Christ Child. (Irving 545). This shows that Owen s parents did not purposefully conceive him, but he was born for a greater purpose. Later on in Owen s life, he has a vision of his grave and how he will die, which leads him to prepare for his death. He saw his death so vividly, he knew Johnny would be present, therefore he involves Johnny in his practice. Johnny explains, We practiced the shot for three or four days in a row; of course, my part in this exercise was extremely limited, but I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of A Democratic Country Public Opinion 1. Introduction For a democratic country public opinion is the most important determinant to establish a government and voting is the process through which people display their opinion and help to setup a democratic government. So the voting system should be reliable, accurate and it must be transparent. In voting systems, three important requirements are identified: Universal verifiability: After the election any party, including a passive observer, can convince himself that the election was fair in the sense that the published final tally is computed correctly from ballots that were correctly cast. Privacy: All individual votes will be kept secret from any (reasonably sized) coalition of parties. Robustness: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They then publicly set the 4 totals to zero by pressing the CLEAR button, after which the control unit display shows that a total of zero votes have been cast. Workers can check this count at any time by pressing the TOTAL button. Seals are then placed on various parts of the control unit to block access to counting and clearing functions until later in the election process. When a voter arrives, workers verify his or her identity and record the voter s presence by obtaining a signature or thumb print. Next, a poll worker presses the BALLOT button on the control unit to allow one vote. This causes a green READY light to glow on the ballot unit. The voter enters the polling booth and presses the button for the candidate of his or her choice. A red light next to the candidate button glows, the ready light turns off, and the control unit emits a loud beep to indicate that the vote has been cast. The red light then turns off automatically. This process repeats for each voter. At the end of the poll, the presiding officer removes a plastic cap on the control unit and presses the CLOSE button, which prevents the EVM from accepting further votes. The ballot unit is disconnected and the control unit is placed in storage until the public count, which may occur weeks later. On the counting day, the control units are delivered to a counting center. In public view, an election official breaks a seal on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Cause Of Genetic Information Being Transferred By A... Humans have been involved with genetics even before the idea of genetics existed. In the 1800s, a monk by the name of Mendel used selection in plants and crossed them to study how traits are passed down from parents to filial generations. Ever since then, genetics have grown over time and it has lead to much curiosity among scientists, which have then conducted their experiments to overcome their curiosity. That has lead to many innovations and new findings. In the early 1920s, Fredrick Griffith conducted an experiment that proposed that bacteria are the cause of genetic information being transferred by a process called transformation. His further researches conducted lead him to the finding that DNA was the genetic material that passed information (Klug et al., 2012). Avery, Mccarty and Macleod using Griffith s findings confirmed that DNA was the material that was passed down from parents to offspring s in the form of genes. Genes are composed of alleles that pass down traits from generation to generation. Once alleles are inherited in a population, traits are expressed. Thus this leads to the idea of population genetics, which is very crucial to understanding genetics. Population genetics studies the frequency of alleles that change within a population, which influences evolution. Mathematic principles are used to population geneticists, which predict any trends that may occur in a given population. The hardy Weinberg principle is one of these principles. Hardy ... • 5. The Epidemic Is Sweeping The Nation An epidemic is sweeping the nation. Rapidly more cases of STD s are being noted to appropriate health officials and are steadily increasing instead of declining. The Centers for Disease Control, commonly known as the CDC, have vigorously tracked HIV numbers and an estimated 1,218,400 persons aged 13 years and older are living with the HIV infection ( HIV in The United States: At A Glance ). This doesn t include the amount of people clueless to being infected at all: a whopping 156,300. Discouragingly and surprisingly enough, a factor contributing to this number is that people aren t being informed when they engage in relations with another person who has the virus. The risk of transmission from one to the other is excruciatingly high if one party isn t given the opportunity to take the appropriate precautions to protect themselves. Furthermore, when a person is warned that their partner has a transmittable disease, they aren t really equipped to make an informative decision because of lack of information. Every citizen has an undeniable duty to take action to reduce the spread of STD s in Arizona so that eventually these harmful diseases can be altogether eradicated for future generations to come. The first excruciatingly necessary step is for Arizona legislators to create a law that would bring a person up on criminal charges if he/she didn t disclose their infected status to their partner before engaging in intercourse. So far 24 states have laws that require a person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Different Kinds Of Polymers And Polymers A polymer is a large molecule that is made from many small repeating chemicals called monomers. In the Greek language, polymer literally means many parts. Polymers are being used more and more in medical devices, such as drug delivery, screws, plates, fixation pins, suture anchors and many other applications. Some of the most useful polymers for medical uses are poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). They are useful in medicine because of the fact that they can degrade within the body to lesser components that will cause very minimal negative effects. Scientists have found many different ways to control the degradation of these two polymers. Combining two or more different kinds of monomers during polymer formation is called copolymerization. Changing the amount of different kinds of monomers during copolymerization of either poly(lactic co glycolic) (PLGA) or PLA can change degradation characteristics. [2] For example, combining lactic acid and glycolic acid to make PLGA will degrade quicker. There are also stereo copolymers, such as L lactic acid, and D lactic acid which are the same chemical, but are mirror images of each other (figure 1). These can be combined to also lower the degradation times of PLA or PGLA. Figure 1. Difference between L and D lactic acids (Gupta et al, 2007) Synthesis of PLA and PLGA Synthesis of PLA is started through the fermentation of bacteria. There are several types of bacteria that produce L , D lactic acid or a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Effects Of Psoriasis On The Development And... Stress as an Influencing Factor in Psoriasis, Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease with an approximate 2 3% prevalence in the general population. The etiology of psoriasis is not fully understood, but it appears to be multifactorial, involving both genetic and environmental influences. Among these factors, emotional stress is considered to play an important role in the onset and exacerbation of psoriasis. Emotional stress may influence the development and exacerbation of psoriasis. The proportion of psoriasis patients who believe stress affects their skin condition (i.e., stress responders ) is considerably high, ranging from 37% to 78%. Stress may worsen psoriasis severity and may even lengthen the time to disease clearance. Dysregulation of the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal and sympathetic adreno medullary systems has been proposed as one possible underlying cause of stress induced flares of psoriasis. While stress may be an exacerbating factor, psoriasis itself may contribute to significant adverse psychological sequelae. Breaking this stress cycle may be an important part of any therapeutic approach. Thus, stress reduction through psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy may be useful in treating psoriasis patients who are stress responders. Significance of Stress in psoriasis, Researchers examined 132 psoriasis patients whose psoriasis had completely cleared with anthralin therapy and were followed over 3 years. Fifty one patients (39%) recalled specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Descriptive Essay On Walking On Sunshine Walking on Sunshine When I was born in 1999 Serena and Venus Williams were on their way to becoming international tennis stars. Apparently, my parents were avid tennis stars at the time, and so they named me Katrina, and a few years later they named my little sister Serena. Now Serena and I have never played a game of tennis together, in fact I don t even think she s played a game of tennis ever. I really doubt that my parents knew that they were going to conceive another child in 2003, therefor I find this short anecdote to be completely false. I just think my dad is old and as it was 18 years ago he s forgotten. My dad also told me how my parents nearly settled on the names Maya and Sara. Hearing this makes me somewhat grateful for my name, seeing as Sarah s, are a dime a dozen in this world. While I do find the name Maya intriguing, I don t really see myself as a Maya. One aspect of my name that I love is my middle names, and yes, I mean middle names as in two. When I was younger I thought it was so cool to have two middle names, and my dad s story behind the first one never failed to make me feel special. My dad s choice of Jewel, because at the time I was as precious as a jewel. My mother rounded off my middle name with a simple Ann, which stemmed from her middle name. Combined together they make a somewhat unique Jewel Ann. I think I still like my middle name, its different, I think that s why I like it. The cherry on top of the name sundae is my last name ... • 11. Net Neutrality Research Paper Christopher Bayliss Emily Scholl Compositions 13 December 2017 Net Neutrality Many people worry that without net neutrality, we will lose our freedom. Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet Service provider s should treat all content on the internet equally. Most people in the United States of America want to keep net neutrality. However, the Federal Communications Commission s chairman, Ajit Pai, wants to stop net neutrality, so many people are protesting to keep net neutrality. Net neutrality promotes innovation and allows freedom, but is seen as unnecessary by the Federal Communications Commission. One reasons to keep net neutrality is to promote innovation. People can contribute to science and discovery when they have full access ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most aspects of net neutrality can be achieved without forced regulations. They say Internet Service Providers wouldn t want to alter internet content access and speeds anyway. We should trust our Internet Service Providers. Internet Service Providers are afraid to alter the internet because they would quickly lose many of their customers. They say net neutrality will disincentivize companies in low income areas. We need more focus on broadband expansion instead of regulation of companies; some companies take more bandwidth than others, so having net neutrality overloads bandwidth on smaller companies that don t need as much. Also, authority should be restored to the Federal Trade Commission. Internet speeds become overall slower by spreading out bandwidth. The Federal Communications Commission has multiple reasons for thinking that net neutrality is unnecessary. Paragraph one explains how net neutrality promotes innovation. The second paragraph explains how it protects freedom. Paragraph three explains how the Federal Communications Commission says net neutrality is unnecessary. Net neutrality promotes innovation and freedom, but the Federal Communications Commission sees it as an unnecessary addition to an already stable internet. Early detection by screening for breast masses involves a three pronged approach: mammography, breast self examination, clinical breast examination. Women should have a baseline mammography screening beginning at the age forty. Women who are at a high risk for breast cancer should have a yearly exam beginning at age the age of thirty. A mammography is an X ray that allows health care professionals to examine the breast tissue for any suspicious areas. Mammograms can often show a breast abnormality before it can be self detected. The clinical breast exam is performed by a healthcare professional that is trained to recognize different types of abnormalities and risk factors. The clinical breast exams are conducted in office, typically completed by a family physician or gynecologist at your annual exam. A self breast exam is something women should do once a month at home. Elliot examines the history of early modern Spain from the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella and Ferdinand, to the reformation of the Spanish government by the first member of the Bourbon dynasty. According to the author, at the start of the 15th century, Spain was internally weak, hopelessly divided and isolated from the continent by the Pyrenees. Yet, by 1492, Spanish society experienced a tremendous transformation which allowed Isabella and Ferdinand to unify the country, secure the largest transoceanic empire the world has ever known, and for a ... While it is true that Ferdinand interfered little with Isabella s handling of Castilian affairs, Elliot asserts in Chapter Four ( The Imperial Destiny ) that certain key issues were handled jointly by the monarchs. This was evident in the concessions that they were able to extract from the Vatican. Patronato Real, or the right of presentation to all ecclesiastical benefices in the Kingdom of Granada was granted to the sovereigns of Spain by Pope Innocent VIII while the Reconquista was still ongoing. Eventually, the author goes on to say, this right would be extended to all Spanish domains. This gave the rulers of Spain almost complete control of the Catholic Church in their territories and in time, the clergy would become the most efficient of bureaucrats and administrators of the Spanish empire. Chapter Five is entitled The Government and the Economy of the Reign of Charles V and in it Elliot argues that after Ferdinand s death in 1516, his successor Charles I of Spain, V of the Holy Roman Empire, inherited a thriving, pacified, quasi united kingdom that had access to the incredible wealth of the Americas. The problem, the author suggests, was that Charles and his successors did not fully understand the complexity of the Spanish system they inherited. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is played with a small rubber ball, a long stick with a sort of basket at the end, and padding (it is a contact sport). The objective of the game is to shoot the ball into the other team s goal, using the stick to pass, cradle and shoot. At first, the game was played on a distance of even several miles, and anywhere between 100 and 100000 players in a single game. The teams are now composed of ten players each, 3 of them are offense, 3 defense, 3 midfielders, that can go anywhere on the field, and one goalie, which is the heart of the team. In this essay I will focus on the physics that stand behind lacrosse, and how companies that make lacrosse gear use our knowledge and understanding of forces to make padding and helmets that are safer, and sticks that are made for different kinds of play styles (contact defense, precision, fast offense...). Head of the Lacrosse Stick Field Lacrosse Head Box Lacrosse Head Native American Lacrosse Head The design of a Lacrosse head impacts the game in a great way, because the pocket of the Lacrosse stick affects how the ball comes out of the stick. During a shot the kinetic energy of the shaft is transferred into the head, which in turn stretches the mesh (elastic energy), and transfers it to the ball as k. energy. The shooting strings in the mesh (the 3 big ones that look like shoe laces) turn the force the ball has and turns it into angular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Myth Of Co Parenting By Hope Edelman Analysis Marriage has been constantly changing over the past centuries. Currently, trends in marriage have adopted a new way of getting married through splitting responsibilities and work, resulting in social freedom for individuals. The Myth of Co Parenting, by Hope Edelman demonstrates the difficulties of taking all the responsibilities while in My Problem with Her Anger, explains the needs of having a better understanding of each other. Due to marriage changing over the last centuries, marriage couples desire individuals expectations and freedom to be met in marriage. While both authors stand on the idea of marriage changing in roles, Hope Edelman in The Myth of Co Parenting: How It Was Supposed to Be. How It Was, inserts her view about marriage in her own experience that shows her attitude on marriage mainly through her husband leaving all the responsibility toward her. When parents are not there for their kids, often times kids feel unattached with their parents creating a weaker bond. Edelman s frustration came from having a dream of marrying happily to having it demolished. On the other hand, Eric Bartels in his article My problem with Her Anger, explained the difficulties he had when his wife was nagging him all the time. His assumption toward marriage has declined as his marriage went from being good to his wife as she trigger madness inside of her all the time. He explained his attitude toward his marriage when his wife gets mad all the time. If this is my castle, it is under siege. From within. ( 59) Bartels through saying this displayed his attitude his marriage as a castle looked like it s perfectly fine, but from the inside it s chaos displayed. The assumption both articles shared the the individual expectation of spouses in the relationship. Edelman explains that loyalty and devotion are undoubtedly better traits to have in a spouse, to support the idea that marriage should be between two parents working together side by side to fulfill their dreams. She went on further showing that her daughter needed a father who s there to support her and have comfort in her life, unlike her parents. Today, only seven or eight species of marine turtles survive, distributed unevenly through all three tropical oceans. The modern decline in sea turtles species is not due to inherently poor adaption to post Pleistocene conditions, but is mainly a result of current and past anthropogenic exploitation. Additionally, the greater diversity of sea turtle taxa in the past compared to today is also due to the disappearance of entire isolated oceans such as the Nirobrara Sea, which was once inhabited by a diversity of seat turtle species. • 25. Aerodynamics, A Subset Of Fluid Dynamics Aerodynamics, a subset of fluid dynamics, is the study of the behavior of objects when exposed to air. Hydrodynamics, another subset of fluid dynamics, is very similar to aerodynamics and has similar laws. However, hydrodynamics shows the behavior of liquids instead of gasses. Reynolds Numbers, created by British scientist and engineer Osborne Reynolds, describe the way fluids behave against objects. Bernoulli s principle, discovered by Daniel Bernoulli, states that faster fluid flow creates lower pressure, and slower fluid flow creates higher pressure. There are 4 main forces, drag, lift, thrust and weight. Lift is the force that counters weight. It occurs when the pressure of the object below the object is greater than the pressure above it. The second force, thrust, counters drag. It propels the object in a given direction and can be provided by turbofans, turboprops, propfans, etc. on an airplane, but can also be provided for an arrow by the bowstring. Weight counters lift and varies with mass. The greater the mass, the greater the force of weight is. The last force, drag, counters thrust. The air particles stick to the object, creating friction and heat which slows the object. Drag occurs everywhere where there is a fluid, with almost (practically) no effect in space. With the four main forces, flight can occur. There are two types of flight, powered flight and coastal flight. Turkoski (1995) states that profession is a social construct that was determined by a male worldview; only men were allowed to have professions. Over time the concept of profession has moved beyond the gender divide and established a set of criteria that are non gender specific. RNABC (as cited in Northrup et al, 2004) listed attributes that explained how nurses were a profession. These attributes are, responsibility and accountability to the public, have own body of knowledge, bound by a code ethics, provide a service to the public and is self regulating. However, education is missing from the RNABC standards of professional development, according the Merriam Websters dictionary (2015) a profession is, a type of job that requires special education, training or skill and requires specialized knowledge. • 32. Marine Biology And Wild Life Conservation All my life I have pursued my fascination for animals and the ocean anywhere from volunteering to going to the University of Rhode Island to getting certified in diving to teaching. With my experiences and passion for the field of marine biology and wild life conservation I know I can make a considerable difference in any research project. My first substantial step toward making a career out of my interests for the oceans and all its aquatic life was my volunteer work at the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration. When I was a sophomore in high school I was accepted into the docent program at the Aquarium. There I was responsible for the safety of the public and animals while providing an educational and inspiring environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After I started at Mystic I got involved with 2 different organizations at my high school that had a huge focus in volunteering and giving back to the immediate community that we were raised in. The first club is a student run volunteer organization called Vision that focused on work in our immediate and surrounding communities. The second organization I received membership into was the Mark Twain Chapter of the National Honors Society. This society was composed of an elite group of students that had high regards for character, service, and education. In order to apply one had to have a GPA of a 3.5 or higher and once you were able to apply you must have 30 recorded hours of community service and then an essay explaining yourself in terms of character, service, and education. Once welcomed into the society, we did volunteer work for the community and other events to help other students improve their abilities in a variety of school topics. The volunteer work from both clubs included helping and participating at our annual blood drive, relay for life, food drives, Christmas present drives, helping elderly care for their lawns, and cleaning up our town s schools grounds. Each project involved a group effort from everyone involved and we ended up making a huge difference for our community. I still continue to help out in my community by doing beach clean ups and food drives. During ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Persuasive Essay Why Do We Dream There is a question that has baffled many psychologists and curious minds for centuries the question is why do we dream? Do we dream to save our mind from insanity and stress or is it because it s a natural process? There is one thing for certain though most people dream, the question is can they remember it. The truth is all creatures can enter a certain type of REM sleep but it s uncertain if they experience dreams on a human plane of thought. When we enter REM sleep our Rapid Eye Movement stage of sleep the deepest part of our sleep, the human body undergoes a temporary paralysis to stop the sleeping person from potential harmful movement. The dreaming process usually happens in this stage, but has been reported in NREM sleep. Some individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Does The Fruit Fly Experiment Introduction The purpose of this conducting this lab is to see how the rocket can be changed physically to make it fly higher up after being launched. Not only is the rocket going to fly higher but also have to test to see if there is a way to thoroughly protect an egg after landing to keep it from cracking/breaking. Research on the average height a rocket flies based on the PSI used showed that the higher the PSI the higher it tends to fly. Experimental Design The experimental question is Will the amount of air pressure change the height the rocket flies?. The independent variable is the amount of pressure in the rocket. The dependent variable is how high the rocket flies. The control is a bottle with just air no water launched at 60psi. Hypothesis If the air pressure is raised higher than the other experimental group s air pressure then the rocket will fly higher because of the increased force pushing off the water to make it fly higher. Test Materials 2 cans of Insulated Foam Sealant 3 soda bottles 2 15 cm pieces of cardboard Ducktape Square plastic table ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I predicted that the higher PSI would force the rocket to go higher. I feel as though to the results differed from the hypothesis because the air pressure pump was broken when group 1 was launching the rocket. Second, we could not keep all the constants the same since we had different people building each rocket as well as each parachute. Lastly, we can t be sure the data is accurate because we only have two group s data so we can t check the data and see if there is a pattern. Ways to improve these errors could be to have one group work on the rockets. Another group taking all the data so one group doesn t forget to put in the data. The last group to launch the rocket. We would also need to be sure that all of the parachutes are the same as the math groups we worked with did not take down what we needed to be built to match and instead did whatever they wanted to ... • 35. The Giant Impact Theory On The Moon In 1975, two scientists by the name of Dr. William K. Hartmann and Dr. Donald R. Davis, came up with a groundbreaking new theory on how the moon was created. Their theory stated At the time Earth formed 4.5 billion years ago, other smaller planetary bodies were also growing. One of these hit earth late in Earth s growth process, blowing out rocky debris. A fraction of that debris went into orbit around the Earth and aggregated into the moon (Hartmann Herres 1). This theory is known as the Giant Impact Theory and is the accepted theory in the scientific community of how the moon was created. Even though this theory is accepted by most, there are still some people who don t hold this theory to be true. I agree with Davis and Hartmann s Giant Impact Theory that a great collision occurred and created the moon. The Giant Impact Theory is supported by the lack of iron on the moon, the moon rocks from the Apollo missions, and its acceptance in the scientific community. Mostly every planet in our solar system has some traces of iron that can be found. But the moon is unique, because there is little to no iron on the moon. The Moon has an abnormally low density compared to the terrestrial planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars), indicating that it lacks high density iron (Giant Impact Theory For Moon Formation Boosted 1). The density of the moon is 3.346 g/cm3, while the Earth is much denser at 5.52 g/cm3 (Cain 1). The moons low density correlates with the Giant Impact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
