Analysis Of Jan Johnson s The Soul Wound
Finding Redemption
Music has always been regarded as an art of high importance. The word itself originates from the
Greek word mousike meaning of the muses , the group of nine Greek Goddesses who regulate
the arts and sciences. It has often been used as a way to heal mental and emotional pain; music
speaks directly to the body through intuitive channels that are accessed at entirely different levels
of consciousness from those associated with cognition (The Music Effect.24). In Jan Johnson s
Soul Wound, Johnson discusses the historical trauma of Native Americans and the rage that is
associated with it. This rage, as she later states, is generally turned inward and expressed through
depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide, and manifested externally within families and
communities through domestic and other forms of violence (Johnson.226 227). In Wabanaki
Blues by Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel we see this rage internalized and portrayed in the
depression of both Mona and her mother and depicted in their family dynamic through the neglect
of Mona s mother towards Mona. Mona, as well as other characters in the book, utilize music as a
form of therapy to heal the soul. The characters in Wabanaki Blues utilize music to heal in ways
that parallels Bob Marley s Redemption Song and the Rastafarian religion.
Wabanaki blues is a book that concentrates on a recent graduate of high school named Mona
LaPierre and her path in finding herself. She is a Native American of the

Rights and Responsibilities of the Jewish People during...
On the day of January 30, 1933 Adolf Hitler became the chancellor of Germany. You are about to
learn what the rights and responsibilities of the Jews in Nazi Germany where. Adolf Hitler used
propaganda throughout Germany to brainwash people to believe that that the Jews are our
misfortune . Some of the tools that he used as propaganda against the Jewswas the weekly
newspaper called the der sturmer which meant the attacker. At the front of all the newspapers it
said in bold that the Jews are our misfortune. There were also many cartoons that showed Jews as
if they were hooked nosed. The influence of the newspaper was spreading fast and by 1938 almost

A medical professor named dr.Brandt sent a request to be assisted by placing prisoners at his
disposal for research work into the cause of contagious jaundice (hepatitis epidemic). Permission
was granted to go forward with the experiments to produce a new kind of spotted fever to 100
suitable prisoners. The experiments showed that at higher altitudes than 10.5km breathing stopped
after about 30 minutes, but their hearts continued beating for another 20 minutes. The third
experiment of this flue took such an intense course that the doctor had to call the camp physician to
be a witness. It was a continuous experiment with the oxygen level below 12km. The test was
conducted on a 37 year old Jew in good general condition. When the test began the breathing
continued for up to 30 minutes. After about four minutes the test subject began to perspire and
started to wiggle his head and twitch; after five minutes cramps started to occur. After around 6 and
10 minutes into the experiment breathing increased rapidly and the test subject became
unconscious; after about 11 to 30 minutes the subject s breathing slowed back down to 3 breaths
every minute, finally coming to a complete stop. A couple minutes later foam Started to appear at
his mouth.
One hour after he stopped breathing his head was removed and so was the brain. In the veins and
arteries of the brain air was found in places. To test were air was being tapped in their bodies, they

Full Body Scanners Do Not Lead to Safer Travel Essay
Why should anyone including my 3 year old daughter unnecessarily be exposed to cancer causing
X ray beams in a full body scanner? Or have a total stranger run his or her hands up and down my
daughter s body for a full pat down upon refusing the scan? Most enraging is that the scan can be
done without my knowledge. Full body scanners should not be used in United States airports. The
Transportation Security Administration(TSA), on November 20, 2010 implemented the use of 385
scanners, otherwise know as advanced imaging technology in 68 airports to include Denver
International Airport. The TSA is using these machines supposedly to ensure safer travel and be
steps ahead of security threats. According to the TSA, as a preventive measure,... Show more

The two types of scanners currently being used by the TSA are backscatter imaging technology
and millimeter wave imaging. The backscatter imaging is an X ray beam bounced off the skin.
Millimeter wave imaging bounces of electromagnetic waves off the skin as well. Being that both
technologies do not penetrate the body, explosives hidden in body cavities or surgically
implanted, go completely undetected (Heasley 1). Since the technologies being used only
bounce waves of the body surface, this leaves then skin highly exposed to concentrated amounts
of radiation. Health side effect studies of full body scanners have been labeled classified and
inaccessible to the general public. Four professors from the University of California San
Francisco, whom are well respected cancer, X ray crystallographers and imaging experts stated in
a letter to the Obama administration that, The low energy rays do a Compton scatter off tissue
layers just under the skin, possibly exposing some vital areas and leaving the tissues at risk of
mutation. When an X ray Compton scatters, it doesn t shift an electron to a higher energy level;
instead, it hits the electron hard enough to dislodge it from its atom. The authors note that this
process is likely breaking bonds, which could cause mutations in cells and raise the risk of cancer
(Johnston). Furthermore, the UCSF researchers write in their letter, older passengers are more
susceptible to mutagenic effects of X rays, and the risk of

Relationship Between Child Support And Child Relationship
Parent to Child Relationship Analyzed by Child Support and Disconnection
I am writing about the topic of how child support can affect the relationship a parent feels
towards their child. In a sense that it can make the parent feel as if the child is an expense. As
something they have to constantly keep up with like a phone bill or water bill. I chose this topic
because I feel that there is a disconnection between parents that are required to pay child support
toward their child. Those parents paying child support in most instances are only allowed to see
their child for a certain period of time. That being a weekend or every other weekend. If not at all
in the most extreme cases. This disconnection in turn can lead to a broken relationship between the
parent and the child. The parent is seen as a negative figure by the child whereas the parent sees the
child as an expense. Which can lead to other negative impacts between the family. The parent with
full custody or majority custody is a better able to raise the child and instill negative feelings about
the other parent into the child. What is significant and interesting about this particular field of
inquiry that this is constantly happening in modern time. As seen through high levels of divorce,
custody battles, and parents that are required to pay child support on a monthly basis. At times
the other parent with majority custody can even be better off as they are receiving another check
while the parent required to pay child support is at times struggling to get by. Needless to say that
the parent required to pay child support is at fault and put themselves in the situation in the first
place. The challenges I expect to face while researching are unscholarly resources in which
frustrated parents post on online websites. Even though these experiences may be first hand
insights they are most likely posted to unscholarly websites which cannot be used for this essay. A
possible thesis is, child support leads to a broken relationship between a parent and a child with the
cause of future disconnection. The research question being, Does child support make a parent feel
like their child is an expense that leads to disconnection? With many answers surrounding this

All Men Make Mistakes In Antigone
Think: all men make mistakes, But a good man yields when he Knows his course is wrong, And
repairs the evil: The only Crime is pride.
This is a quote from the play Antigone. The question validity is not a simple one. There are many
different opinions upon if this this applies to everybody. I find this to apply to everyday life.
All men do make mistakes, and women. There is no such thing as someone who doesn t make
mistakes. Mistakes are apart of human nature. The definition of mistake is an action or judgement
that is misguided or wrong. The problem with this definition is the act of being wrong is an
opinion. There are over seven billion people in this world, not everyone has the same opinion.

consummate their marriage. We see this build up to their consummation where the Marquis teases
her, enjoying her discomfort. Left about the in the library she discovers a Rops picture which is
symbolic of their own relationship. Delighted to have found the narrator entranced with what she
had seen. the Marquis relishes in her naivety and finally takes her virginity. Leaving her feeling

It can be argued that the narrator is not accepted as a woman by the marquis in a virginal or non
virginal state and therefore is in a liminal state because he treats her as a child both before and
after the consummation of their marriage. Carter creates a dominant atmosphere through the use
of minor sentences: Not yet. Later. This causes an awkward tension when the Marqui teases her.
The Marqui gets a disturbing thrill from the power he holds over her. Carter wants to reinforce
her views on patriarchy suggesting that men see themselves as the dominant figure. Carter also
explores an ominous atmosphere through her use of intertextuality. All the better to see you
reminds readers of the well known fairytale Little Red Riding Hood. Carter changes the tone
within these four pages as if the unnamed narrator is talking to the readers. She asks questions
like even on your honeymoon as if she was addressing the readers; Carter uses this technique to
personally engage readers with her story. Also the pronoun your used by Carter changes her
recollection of the story to second person. Carter reminds us that this is her memory her
experience, by the absence of speech marks when she is recalling his words. In the middle of this
extract, Carter uses irony to reinforce an ominous atmosphere in the discovery the book The Secret
of Pandora s Box. The discovery of this particular book foreshadows her own situation and the fact

Reflexive Listening In Extract 9
The function and structure of the conversation in extract 9 is almost similar to the interactions
found in extract 8. Here, the therapist asked the question to the patient with a possible intention to
evaluate the patient recovery through a patient centred approach. In this extract the patient not only
expressed concern (actually I can t say I got reduced (disease)) but also illustrate active expression
of demands (I can t...). The patient expressed active demands in the form of worries that he
experienced in his daily life. So, the patients described to the therapist certain functional activities as
his priorities to improve (I couldn t dry my hairs... Then, still I have difficulty during brushing

Here, in this extract the therapist pay attention to the patient concerns with interest in the form of

Soviet Union Dbq
The Soviet Union, after 69 years if being a country, has done a gaggle of things. From space
achievements to putting the most funding into their military than any other country at the time,
these events all deserve to be remembered in Soviet Union textbooks. However, there are three
things that must be in those Soviet textbooks which would be geographic expansion, military
strength, and their Olympic values. All of these show that communism was capable of producing
greatness and nationalism in their people. Geographic expansion should be included in Soviet
Union textbooks because it shows the determination of their country, their leaders need to protect
their country, and it shows their ideals. After World War II in 1945, the Soviet leaders

the Soviet Union had over the United States (the USSR had 7,836 in total megaton age of nuclear
arsenals while the United States had only 3,253), shows the world their value of coming out on

The And Of The Mob Essay
Then, of course, there is Lot s offering of his daughters to these gay men. 6But Lot went out to
them at the doorway, and shut the door behind him, 7and said, Please, my brothers, do not act
wickedly. 8Now behold, I have two daughters who have not had relations with man; please let
me bring them out to you, and do to them whatever you like; only do nothing to these men,
inasmuch as they have come under the shelter of my roof. (Genesis 19:6 8) Go to seminary and
you may hear a bunch of song and dance explanations of how Lot was just following the
hospitality customs of his day in offering his virgin daughters to the mob. If my neighborhood
has such customs, I would move. Justification of Lot s action based simply on this custom,
stretches the bounds of credulity as this satirical Leave it to Beaver type of recapitulation of that
event demonstrates. The mob is eager to gang rape Lot s two guests. Dumbfounded, Lot sticks
his head into the kitchen to consult his wife about the problem. Muriel. Lot says with a sheepish
look on his face. Those pesky neighbors of ours want to bust down our door again. Can t we just

broke our hospitality customs. Besides, I just put some cookies in the oven. Yell upstairs and

quot;A Doll s House quot; Essay
The suppressed position of women was blatantly highlighted in Henrik Isbens play titled A Doll s
House The dehumanization weathered by Nora, the dependence she felt, along with lack of
adequate experience and education all played a part in Isbens story as if it were exact
representations of society just beyond the doll house walls. As the reality of Nora s predicament
was raised to the surface her inability to manage herself is seemingly what leads her down the path
to her own independence. It is through the disillusionment that Nora undeniably felt towards her
husband Torvald and the world that she finally comprehends her unmitigated state of repression.
Nora clearly represents the doll of the house and Torvald s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This further reduces her as an individual. Torvald employs a nursemaid to care for their children
and this custom appears to be commonplace among the elite in that time.
Nora was completely dependent on Torvald and he adored that fact. He noted that her
dependence on him made her more alluring; she becomes both wife and child to him. He does
not see her as his equal as women were typically not viewed as equal partners. He sees her only
as his possession, a young, vibrant Nora, magnificent for only him, for him to show off at his will,
and to signify his manhood. It is possible that he was much her elder and it was admired among
men to seek out a young woman for marriage, they were more malleable and up to the task of
bearing their children.
The sense that woman were helpless creatures seemed to echo in the society around them. It
appears that most women were not considered for work or allowed to educate themselves.
Torvald viewed Nora as a frail creature, child like and completely helpless yet influential and
responsible for the morality of the family. Nora s character seemed to represent the way women
were more or less held captive in their homes just as they were in society. This dependent role for
woman was emphasized when Mrs. Linde spoke of her life being empty; that she had no one to
care for and there was no pleasure in working for oneself. Wife and mother were the most important
roles that women played and without

Major Types Of Major Depressive Disorder
Major Depressive Disorder
Major depressive disorder is a mood disorder in which a person experiences low mood, loss of
interest, and diminished self esteem. Symptoms of depression take over every part of a person. It
can hinder emotions, bodily utilities, behaviors, and thoughts. Depression is a common mood
disorder and can affect any age group. Depression occurs when a person experiences a loss of
self esteem. Such as doing badly in a class, the loss of a loved one, or losing a career. Mild
symptoms may go unnoticed and will not affect everyday life. More severe symptoms can become

To be diagnosed with major depressive disorder, the person must experience depressed mood or
loss of interest and at least four other indicators for a period of two weeks or more. These
symptoms must be so severe that they interfere with the person s ability to function on a daily
basis. In extreme cases, depression can lead to self harm and suicide. More than 70 percent of
individuals diagnosed with major depressive disorder will correspondingly have an additional
psychological disorder at some point in their lives. The DSM 5 recognizes several different forms
that the disorder can manifest as (subtypes.) These subtypes include depression along with: anxious
distress, mixed features, melancholic features, psychotic features, catatonic features, atypical
features, seasonal pattern, and peripartum onset. (Nolen Hoeksema, 2014) Anxiety is exceedingly
common in depression. (Watson, 2009) Mixed features has the presence of at least three symptoms
of mania, but do not meet the criteria for a manic episode. Melancholic features include the inability
to experience pleasure and in which the other physiological symptoms of depression are mainly
noticeable. Phsychotic features include delusions or hallucinations. Catatonic features people have
bizarre actions known as catatonia. These behaviors may include not reacting to their environment
or excited agitation. Atypical features may include positive mood reaction to some events,

Informative Essay On Margaret Garner
Would you ever take your child s life so they wouldn t grow up into slavery? Margaret Garner is
a famous slave who was born into slavery in 1834 in Boone County, Kentucky. She lived on the
plantation of John Pollard Gaines and was married to Robert Garner in 1849.
Margaret Garner s background consisted of adult life, education, and family life. First, Margaret
Garner married Robert Garner in 1849. He was also a slave, but had worked on a different
plantation than Margaret (Cincy). They had been married for a long time so, he must have had a
very big impact on her life. Second, Margaret Garner had been born into slavery on June 4, 1834.
Since she had been born into slavery, there is a large chance she did not have much of an education

First, Garner made it to free territory with her whole family, despite the challenges she may have
faced along the way. The trip must have been a difficult one, with her husband and four children,
they could have easily been caught (36). This must have been exceptionally difficult because
she and her family had attempted to escape in 1856, which was after the Fugitive Slave Act had
been passed, so it was easier for her to be caught and returned back South. Secondly, she killed
her daughter so she wouldn t grow up to be a slave. When she traveled to free territory, federal
marshals broke into the cabin she was in and Garner had murdered her two year old daughter
and attempted to kill her other children as well (Black). She had done this because she hated the
thought of going back to her plantation and having her children become slaves. Lastly, because
she murdered her child and attempted escape, Garner had one of the longest fugitive slave trials
in history. This case lasted for two weeks and was all over newspapers in town (Cincy). It caused
lots of controversy, because Garner s lawyer, John Jolliffe, argued that she should be charged
with a murder trial since she had committed the crime on free territory; this way, she would have
a chance at being freed from slavery because she would be considered as a free person and her
children would be considered free as well. But, the court

Immigrate To Canada
Top Reasons to Immigrate to Canada
Canada has a multicultural society and relies heavily on immigration. The aging population of
Canada makes it imminent for them to open up their gates for immigrants from other countries.
According to a research, it was found that Canadians above the age of 65 years comprise 16.1% of
Canada s total population and compared to this the population of under 15s is considerably low.
This has created a void that must be filled with the help of immigration.
Major problems pertaining to aging population are:
в—ЏHuge burden on the economy
в—ЏLess workers in the workforce
в—ЏMore expenditure on pension and healthcare
в—ЏMore taxes for the current workforce

The country also provides a right to education to its Citizens and permanent residents. Thousands of
international students migrate every year to continue their edification in one of the top notch

Canada for education.
Travel
Canada is also a great travel destination and can provide a great bang for every buck you put into
your travel. The iconic Niagara Falls is one of the most alluring sites to witness. Canada has spots
for people travelling in solitude or in a group.
Vancouver houses the hockey team vancouver canucks and is filled with places that can provide
you an exotic wining and dining experience. The SkyTrain enables travellers to to soak in the
majestic view of Canadian cities from quite a height. Some urban cities even have a bucolic setting
due to the type of architecture. There are other great spots that you can visit like Quebec, Granville
islands and so on.
Ease of Immigration
Just to reiterate my point, Canada needs immigrants and that is why the immigration process
focuses on young and skilled workers. This is quite apposite as skilled workers will be able to

1.Explain the structure of neurons. How do neurons communicate with each other? How does the
Endocrine system communicate?
A neuron consists of a cell body, axon and dendrites. The cell body has a neuron, which is the
control centre that controls and regulates the activities of the neuron. The dendrites are extending in
a branch formation, projecting out from the cell body, which receives nerve impulses. The nerves
travels down the axon until it reaches the synapse, which are the gap between two neurons. The
nerve impulse must be converted into a neurotransmitter to be received by the other neuron
triggering an electrical impulse.
With the endocrine system, messages are sent into the bloodstream by hormones, which amplify the
signal to the whole body. Only the cells with the correct receptors will activate.
2.Describe the Peripheral Nervous System and explain the two systems involved in work/exercise
and rest.
The peripheral nervous system consists of nerves that branch out from the brain and the spinal cord.
It has two components, the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. The
somatic nervous system is made up of nerves that connect to voluntary skeletal muscles and to

The Actions of Three Great Men and How They Made Canada...
The Actions of Three Great Men and How They Made Canada Stronger Throughout Canadian
history, we experienced many events that made our country both stronger and weaker. At times,
we were looked upon as a nation with great potential, great peacekeeping service, and even a
nation where its citizens were proud to be Canadian. Although, Canada did show signs of
negativity as some of our actions made us look like terrible people and overall others had a weak
view of the nation. During the 20th century, there were however 3 men that did prove that they did
what they did not just only for themselves, but for the commonwealth of the population. These 3
men, William Lyon Mackenzie King, Lester Bowles Pearson, and Pierre Elliot Trudeau shaped...

There were some issues in the system and how it operated but overall, Canada s elderly were
given financial help that most needed in order to survive. This was a piece of Canada that was able
to become stronger in the sense of stability. Aside from the Old Age Pension Act, King also created
the Unemployment Insurance Act, which are social welfare payments given to the unemployed
population. At first, the Unemployment Act excluded many types of employment such as
agriculture, and jobs that earned more than $2,000 per year (Makarenko, 1). This was the
responsibility of the provinces, but after acquiring unanimous provincial consent, he made it
become a federal issue (Makarenko, 1). The British Parliament made a change to the British North
American Act (now the Canadian Constitution) stating that unemployment insurance was now a
federal power and not a provincial power (Makarenko, 1). King introduced a nationwide public
system of unemployment insurance, which was funded by employees, employers, and the federal
government (Makarenko, 1). This action helped Canada become stronger due to the fact that it
provided an income for the people who couldn t work due to maternity issues, amputations, and
illness. Now, the people who couldn t support themselves had relief from the government which
abled them to be able to survive and keep poverty on a lower scale. With these 3 actions that

Of Who Will Light The Incense When Mother s Gone By Andrew...
In the essay, Who will Light the Incense When Mother s Gone? by Andrew Lam, the theme is
recognized to be one of the key elements. The theme of this essay is the mother s fear of her
children leaving behind the sense of their ancestors. This theme commonly occurs with children of
immigrant parents because after being raised in America they neglect the fact where they originally
came from. The theme of this story is keeping up traditions. Lam s motherdisplays the theme love
by following and committed to explain her children the values and culture. Lam s mother keeps up
the traditions of her native nation because she does not want to forget something that is precious to
her. The writer starts out asking, Who will light the incense when mother s gone? at his mother s
70th birthday party (Lam, par. 1). For Lam, he has already forgotten most of his past... Show more

Lam s family is from Vietnam and moved to America for an improved and better life. The children
do not have any knowledge about their Vietnamese heritage yet are expected to obey and respect
the rituals. The story portrays a relationship between the mother and her children. Throughout the
story, the father in the family was not mentioned. The mother is seemed to have the main role in
the family since she has to maintain the family together and continue the traditions of the
Vietnamese culture on her own. Every morning in my parents suburban home north of San Jose,
with a pool shimmering in the backyard, she climbs a chair and piously lights a few joss sticks
for the ancestral altar, which sits on top of the living room s bookcase. Every morning she talks to

she lives in America now. The Vietnamese ritual she does is lighting the incense and praying to the

Basal Metabolic Study
Energy comes in the form of chemical, mechanical, electrical and heat. Energy can be converted
and cannot be created or destroyed. In nutrition, energy is measured by a unit of kilocalorie or
commonly called a calorie. Fifty percent of food kilocalories from eating produce ATP through
reactions of glycolysis and in the mitochondria of the cell. Another fifty percent is lost as heat.
Energycomes though foods and body energy reserves. Exercise will increase energy metabolism. A
basal metabolic rate or BMR is the amount of energy or kilocalories to keep organs functioning
and to stay alive. BMR estimates are made with measuring resting metabolic rate or RMR. RMR

It has three sites involved in appetite regulation ventromendial nucleus, lateral hypothalamus and
arcuate nucleus. Through studies using mice, lesions to the hypothalamus has resulted in
hyperphagia or hypophagia. In human studies, patients with tumors in the hypothalamus have
been shown to be hyperphagia or hypophagia. The regulation of food intake is a complicated
process. It involves external factors and signals from certain hormones through the hypothalamus.
These factors act as appetite stimulator and appetite suppressors to control energy intake and
expenditure. There have been several weight loss drugs developed to treat obesity. Three of the
drugs are orlistat, sibutramine, and rimonabant. Orlistat prevents fat digestions and absorption by
binding to gastrointestinal lipases. The fat is blocked and fat is not digested and passed out in
feces. Sibutramine works differently to affect the nerve cells in the brain that regulate appetite.
Rimonabant works as a CB1 antagonist. The drug binds to a receptor without activating it and
preventing endocannabinoid to bind to it which decreases cell signals for appetite. The desire is
for less appetite. A person will gain weight once stopping the drugs and limited in there use for
weight loss. Weight loss surgery is used to limit the amount of intake of foods by decreasing the

John M Barry On Politics Analysis
John M. Barry examines the nuances of power in America by comparting and connecting and the
concepts behind politics, sports, and the media in Power Plays. As a means of maintaining the
audience s attention, Barry uses an informative narrative tone through different specific examples
along with anecdotal experiences to prevent the topic from becoming entirely conceptual. Barry, a
former college football coach, is able to draw parallels between sports and politics displaying how
powerful agendas affect lives. Barry focuses much on the devious tactics that are used to create or
destroy America s most powerful figures.

Jim Wright and Newt Gingrich were both House Speakers. Jim Wright was the Speaker beginning
in 1987, however he was forced to resign in 1989. Barry explores how Gingrich, who Barry
recalls was ruthless in the coldest way, exploited and manipulated the media to unfairly and
unjustly bring down Wright through a scandal. While it was Gingrich who orchestrated the
attacks on Wright, Barry focuses mainly on the media as being a player in the game. Gingrich
understood the influential power of the media. While most politicians dislike the media as most of
what is written exists as lies or exaggerations, powerful politicians are able to manipulate the
media to further their own needs. Inside the game, the politician with the better tactics, for example
the one who knows what to say, when to say it, and with what tone should it be said, will have a
more positive relationship with the media and a greater chance to abuse the influence the media
has. Outside the game, similarly to athletes, money has power and can be crucial in establishing
relationships. Therefore the man who has greater money has a greater potential to create positive
ties with the media. Again, while this book, due to the time period, relates this power of influence
struggle between Wright and Gingrich, a more up to date comparison would be between potential
Presidential Candidates Hillary Clinton, who owns the media through inside the game tactics and
Donald Trump, who holds influence outside the game by using his own non lobbyist

Video Analysis of Student Teaching Using Satic Model
ANALYSIS OF TYPES OF STUDENT TEACHER INTERACTIONS IN THE CLASSROOM
Tyler Sason
Dr. Robin Smith
27 April 2013
SMT4301 Spring 2013
INTRODUCTION
One of the most important components of successful science teaching is the use of effective
questioning (Clough, 2007). Abraham and Schlitt (1973) argue that, Teaching requires continuous
analysis of both student and teacher behaviors and subsequent modificationof classroom
performance. They also say teachers must be their own critics if continuous analysis is to occur
(Abraham amp; Schlitt, 1973). The topic that I chose to focus on analyzing are the interactions,
such as questioning and responding, that take place between teachers and their students. Given the
topic, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way teacher questions are worded does make a difference in student response. (Herman, 2008
pp. 16) Herman (2008) found that teachers were more likely to elicit extended answers through
the use of more open ended questions. After reading these articles, I was convinced that I needed
to improve my own questioning skills, which lead me to use the SATIC model for a self evaluation
of my use of questioning in the classroom.
METHODS
The tool that I will use to help answer this question is the SATIC (Student and Teacher
Interaction Coding) (Abraham amp; Schlitt, 1973) which is a tool that was developed for
monitoring certain teacher behaviors. In order to better understand how the SATIC works and
interpret the results, Abraham and Schlitt (1973) explain the use of the SATIC instrument; its
history, uses, and implementation, along with a coding sheet to help the user analyze the data
they have collected. I will use the SATIC to analyze a 15 minute of a section of the lesson and
the coding sheet to quantify teaching behaviors and types of responses so that I can quantify
how many times I used each type of interaction or behavior as opposed to another. In order to
perform my analysis, I will use data collected from student work and video evidence that was
recorded during my lesson for later reference. The video evidence will come from the second day
of the two part lesson that I taught to a high school integrated science class on the topic

This study explored the connection between preschool children s social interpersonal skills and
their transition to kindergarten in mid western America. One hundred and thirty three preschool
children participated in this study over a two year period using three measures of testing. In the
year leading up to commencing kindergarten the children s social interpersonal skills were
evaluated by their teachers. In the following year, parents/guardians and teachers were then
required to report on the children s adjustment to kindergarten. The results of this study found that
there was no connection between parents/guardians and teachers reports of

The Change In The Song American Pie By Don Mclean
The Day that Music Died American Pie, written by Don McLean, was a very intriguing song that
described the change in music from the 1950s to the 1970s. Don McLean wrote this song in
1971, and this song has since been one of the most debated and discussed songs ever. McLean
seemed to be angered by all this change in music but more importantly, the world. The world
was completely different and most of the change was due to the change in music. Moreover,
Holden, in Catcher in the Rye, hated change and blamed it on everyone just like how McLean
blames all of this change on music. Our society was forever changed by the types of music
displayed from the late 1950s to the 1970s. Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan, The Rolling

What is odd about this song is that it seems to be a slow song, but that s not the case. Now, in
American Pie, McLean says Well, I know that you re in love with him. This correlates with the
verse form Hound Dog in a way that women troubled men greatly during this time, and that they
were all the men thought about. Also, Elvis says,
You ain t nothin but a hound dog cryin all the time.
Presley says this because this woman was always crying to him about the relationship when in
reality she was cheating on him. Whether it was reality or not, Presley sure made a great song that
caught people s attention. This relates to how American Pie talks about the 50s and how women
were the main focus for younger men at this time.
Secondly, Buddy Holly produced some of the most influential work in rock music in the late
50s, including his most famous piece of work, That ll Be the Day. This song has since been a hit
because of his distinctiveness and how his lyrics attracted people. His lyrics were always linked to
women; which set the road for music being about women. That ll Be the Day was constantly a top
hit when released due to its rhythm. In the song, Holly says,
Yes, that ll be the day when you make me cry
You say you gonna leave, you know it s a lie

Meiosis is a process of cell division where a diploid cell becomes four haploid cells resembling
mitosis but the chromosomes are duplicated once in which gametocytes form gametes. They occur

The Political System Of The United States
Roger Darlington has said that the United States is the most powerful nation on earth; politically,
economically and militarily(1). Even though the U.S. is the second largest democracy in the
world, India being the first, it is considered rare, compared to other systems in the world. Where
did the founders of the U.S. get their ideas for the political system we have today? The U.S.
political system is made up of many components and there are several factors the contributed to
what the U.S. political system is today. Such as, where the foundations of the U.S. government
came from, the American idea of government, the characteristics of American society and political
culture, and the values and principles of American democracy.
The founding fathers were wise and had great experience in politics and government, however they
could not produce ideas for a political system of a country by just using their wisdom and
experience. The founding fathers needed to look at history to find some answers. One aspect that
the founding fathers explored was the government systems of ancient Greece and Rome. Aristotle
and the Greeks were the first to propose the idea of natural law. The system of direct, rather than
representative democracy, was developed in Athens, Greece. In Athens, citizens directly governed
themselves. They were allowed to participate in debates, voting, and law making. The next part of
history that the founding fathers observed was the philosophers that lived during the

symptoms of acute knowlesi are similar to those of Malaria falciparum and Malaria vivax. They
include Fevers, and chills, being the most prevalent in addition headaches, myalgia/arthralgia, and
poor appetite are very common side effects. In new research described by Cox Singh et al,
abdominal pain, gastrointestinal symptoms, and diarrhea were all present in fatal cases that could
have been prevented if the quick recognition of the infection was achieved by treating medical
professionals. As the scope of paramedic practice is growing exponentially the knowledge of such
clinical presentations could result in faster diagnosis, and treatment if presented with the infection.
This article covers the present education and knowledge of the clinical presentation, diagnosis,
treatment, pathogenesis, and epidemiology of P. knowlesi malaria but unfortunately has only been
drawn from a small number of clinical case reports, both and moderately limited field studies. The
data collected indicates that P.knowlesi malaria is primarily categorized as a zoonotic disease with
primates as the major hosts, mainly long and short tailed macaques. Furthermore, the research
gathered shows that even though P.knowlesi infections

Can a corporate CEO not be a professional? Can the honor also be denied to a computer
programmer making $100,000 salary?
The surveyed students of Clarkson University disagree with Moore. Their ideas of
professionalism were much more lenient, and included CEOs, programmers, and nearly all other
skilled jobs. A professional, by their definition, has to go through intense training and must receive
a degree [that] requires hard work and study and devotes [their] whole life. The students
commonly listed doctors, lawyers, scientists, and reporters, which may fit Moore s ideals, but they
also listed business people, engineers, bankers, and trades such as mechanics and construction
workers. These occupations may not fit Moore s criteria. To the students, a professional is anyone
who acts in a professional way and has creditable knowledge of their field.
The reason for the disagreement is a conflict in interests between the two communities. The
academic community is firmly seated in the professional world. They do not have to contend with
being a member of professionalism s gray area. It is in the best interest of the academics to limit
the definition of professionalism, thus making it more of an elite group. However, the students

themselves in the elite group. This is not to say that the students wish to include all occupations as

Part I On November 19th, 1993 Juan Rivera was convicted for the August 17th, 1992 rape and
murder of then eleven year old Holly Staker, who at the time was babysitting her two siblings
(University of Michigan Law School). His wrongful conviction was the result of failures by not
only the public, but also law enforcement personnel and the criminal justice system, as we will
further examine. According to the University of Michigan s Law School, Juan Rivera s initial
arrest came on October 26th after Lake County Police received a tip from an informant. Rivera was
then questioned for four days and at the end of the fourth day Rivera falsely confessed to Staker
s rape and murder (University of Michigan Law School). Following his confession, the two
interrogators went on to type a confession for Rivera to sign. After obtaining Rivera s signature,
however, the prosecutor found the narrative to be incohesive, and asked the interrogators to
correct it and to obtain Rivera s signature on the second written confession. Rivera s signature was
later obtained on October 30th (University of Michigan Law School). Of course, it is tough to
comprehend why a reasonable and innocent individual such as Mr. Rivera would confess to a crime
he did not commit (Gould). Upon further review, however, there were notable flaws as to how this
case was treated. To

Women and men together make a great team for emergency medical services because, it is such
a wide variety of things we encounter. On some calls men are much better at communicating
with the patient and at other times women are. Entering into the EMS field, I knew there would
be things to overcome such as harassment, hostile situations and many other challenges to get
through. You have to love what you do to make it through daily life in your job. It is very
difficult to be first responders and you never know what type of situation you are going to enter
into. Also, I am sure some patients and family members may think when they see a small
woman like me; is she capable to move me, lift that heavy equipment, and so on. I put my all in
everything I do and have a true passion from the heart in helping others. I know if you are a
woman and want to be in this field you can as long as you put your mind to it and stay dedicated.
In some situations it is more difficult on women than it is men to deal with current things but,
that also applies to men as well. I set a goal of becoming a Paramedic and in the future going

with them together because Clara is only interested in a physical relationship. When the
relationship with Clara fades Miriam tries her luck with Paul again, she says that she wants to
marry him but Paul is so fixated with his love for his mother that when he feels the slightest
feelings for Miriam he feels as though he is betraying her. He declines the proposal from Miriam
and goes back to his mother.
Gertrude Morel was a strong woman and mother but stubborn with her children in a way that she

The Pros And Cons Of The Democratic-Republican Party
In 1792, the world s oldest political party, the Democratic Party, was founded. During the
presidency of President Andrew Jackson in 1830, the party adopted its name as the Democratic
Party as it is known now. Prior to the renaming of the party, it was known as the Democratic
Republican Party founded by James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson in opposition of the Federalist
Party. The Democratic Partys purposed served to supported states rights and the strict
interpretation of the Constitution (Mayne, 1). Correspondingly, providing financial support to
family based agriculture was one of their main priorities (Mayne, 1). The Federalist Party, their
opposition, consisted of wealthy elites that strived, and fought for one strong all ruling national
government, rather than state governments. As the United States had just recently become
independent, the Democratic Republican Party was determined to prevent the United States
from becoming a monarchy. Over the next century, the Democratic Republican party began to
split due to the lack of agreement on major ideas which led to the current two party system.
However, some ideologies remain the same such as moral stance, and socioeconomic status.
Other ideologies like economic view and stance on government power have caused this split
between the Democratic and Republican parties (Mayne, 22). It is imperative to remember that
even though these two parties are completely different, they originated from the same party with
one main goal; To create a government that is run for and by its people (Mayne, 23). I have still
not developed a political identity, but over the past three years of my residence in the United
States, I am more in favor of the Democratic Party and what they stand for. At first, the
Democratic Party started out as the conservative party and the Republicans were the liberals.
However, over time, the Democratic Party has associated itself with social liberalism. Social
liberalism is a political ideology which states that individual liberty requires social justice
(DeMichele, 11). To be more precise, social liberal values include: equal pay, importance of women
s rights and healthcare rights, pro safety, a progressive approach to taxation, and union

How The Genetic Transformation And Determine The...
Aim
The aim of the experiment was to observe the genetic transformation and determine the
transformation efficiency of the bacteria, E.Coli.
Introduction
Injection of DNA into cells which results in the inheritance of traits contained in the DNA injected
is known as genetic transformation (Lorenz et al, 1994). Genetic transformation that occurs
naturally has resulted in evolution. The efficiency and rate of exchange of genetic material can be
increased if both organisms use the same system of genetic information storage e.g. DNA plasmid
(Johnsborg et al, 2007). The bacteria E.Coli which are used in the experiment are sensitive to
antibiotic, they do not glow and are easily transformed (Dickson, 2008). Bacteria are single
celled which increases the result of an uptake of substance, and E.Coli have circular DNA or
better known as plasmids. These plasmids can be replicated and passed on to the next
generation. The plasmids added to the colonies will be used as the medium for insertion and
expression of the foreign DNA sequence (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, No Date). A gene
carrying the GFP or Green Fluorescent Protein is used in the experiment. GFP is found naturally
in the North American jellyfish, Aequorea Victoria, and is harmless hence leading to its usage as
a tool to study gene expression in an organism as they are easily visible (Dickson, 2008). GFP
causes an organism to glow under UV light.
Escherichia Coli or E.Coli is considered as a gram negative bacteria.

  • 2. Analysis Of Jan Johnson s The Soul Wound Finding Redemption Music has always been regarded as an art of high importance. The word itself originates from the Greek word mousike meaning of the muses , the group of nine Greek Goddesses who regulate the arts and sciences. It has often been used as a way to heal mental and emotional pain; music speaks directly to the body through intuitive channels that are accessed at entirely different levels of consciousness from those associated with cognition (The Music Effect.24). In Jan Johnson s Soul Wound, Johnson discusses the historical trauma of Native Americans and the rage that is associated with it. This rage, as she later states, is generally turned inward and expressed through depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide, and manifested externally within families and communities through domestic and other forms of violence (Johnson.226 227). In Wabanaki Blues by Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel we see this rage internalized and portrayed in the depression of both Mona and her mother and depicted in their family dynamic through the neglect of Mona s mother towards Mona. Mona, as well as other characters in the book, utilize music as a form of therapy to heal the soul. The characters in Wabanaki Blues utilize music to heal in ways that parallels Bob Marley s Redemption Song and the Rastafarian religion. Wabanaki blues is a book that concentrates on a recent graduate of high school named Mona LaPierre and her path in finding herself. She is a Native American of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Full Body Scanners Do Not Lead to Safer Travel Essay Why should anyone including my 3 year old daughter unnecessarily be exposed to cancer causing X ray beams in a full body scanner? Or have a total stranger run his or her hands up and down my daughter s body for a full pat down upon refusing the scan? Most enraging is that the scan can be done without my knowledge. Full body scanners should not be used in United States airports. The Transportation Security Administration(TSA), on November 20, 2010 implemented the use of 385 scanners, otherwise know as advanced imaging technology in 68 airports to include Denver International Airport. The TSA is using these machines supposedly to ensure safer travel and be steps ahead of security threats. According to the TSA, as a preventive measure,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two types of scanners currently being used by the TSA are backscatter imaging technology and millimeter wave imaging. The backscatter imaging is an X ray beam bounced off the skin. Millimeter wave imaging bounces of electromagnetic waves off the skin as well. Being that both technologies do not penetrate the body, explosives hidden in body cavities or surgically implanted, go completely undetected (Heasley 1). Since the technologies being used only bounce waves of the body surface, this leaves then skin highly exposed to concentrated amounts of radiation. Health side effect studies of full body scanners have been labeled classified and inaccessible to the general public. Four professors from the University of California San Francisco, whom are well respected cancer, X ray crystallographers and imaging experts stated in a letter to the Obama administration that, The low energy rays do a Compton scatter off tissue layers just under the skin, possibly exposing some vital areas and leaving the tissues at risk of mutation. When an X ray Compton scatters, it doesn t shift an electron to a higher energy level; instead, it hits the electron hard enough to dislodge it from its atom. The authors note that this process is likely breaking bonds, which could cause mutations in cells and raise the risk of cancer (Johnston). Furthermore, the UCSF researchers write in their letter, older passengers are more susceptible to mutagenic effects of X rays, and the risk of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Relationship Between Child Support And Child Relationship Parent to Child Relationship Analyzed by Child Support and Disconnection I am writing about the topic of how child support can affect the relationship a parent feels towards their child. In a sense that it can make the parent feel as if the child is an expense. As something they have to constantly keep up with like a phone bill or water bill. I chose this topic because I feel that there is a disconnection between parents that are required to pay child support toward their child. Those parents paying child support in most instances are only allowed to see their child for a certain period of time. That being a weekend or every other weekend. If not at all in the most extreme cases. This disconnection in turn can lead to a broken relationship between the parent and the child. The parent is seen as a negative figure by the child whereas the parent sees the child as an expense. Which can lead to other negative impacts between the family. The parent with full custody or majority custody is a better able to raise the child and instill negative feelings about the other parent into the child. What is significant and interesting about this particular field of inquiry that this is constantly happening in modern time. As seen through high levels of divorce, custody battles, and parents that are required to pay child support on a monthly basis. At times the other parent with majority custody can even be better off as they are receiving another check while the parent required to pay child support is at times struggling to get by. Needless to say that the parent required to pay child support is at fault and put themselves in the situation in the first place. The challenges I expect to face while researching are unscholarly resources in which frustrated parents post on online websites. Even though these experiences may be first hand insights they are most likely posted to unscholarly websites which cannot be used for this essay. A possible thesis is, child support leads to a broken relationship between a parent and a child with the cause of future disconnection. The research question being, Does child support make a parent feel like their child is an expense that leads to disconnection? With many answers surrounding this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Biological bases of mental life and behaviour Task A. Answer the following five learning objectives [maximum 100 words per objective] 1.Explain the structure of neurons. How do neurons communicate with each other? How does the Endocrine system communicate? A neuron consists of a cell body, axon and dendrites. The cell body has a neuron, which is the control centre that controls and regulates the activities of the neuron. The dendrites are extending in a branch formation, projecting out from the cell body, which receives nerve impulses. The nerves travels down the axon until it reaches the synapse, which are the gap between two neurons. The nerve impulse must be converted into a neurotransmitter to be received by the other neuron triggering an electrical impulse. With the endocrine system, messages are sent into the bloodstream by hormones, which amplify the signal to the whole body. Only the cells with the correct receptors will activate. 2.Describe the Peripheral Nervous System and explain the two systems involved in work/exercise and rest. At first, the Unemployment Act excluded many types of employment such as agriculture, and jobs that earned more than $2,000 per year (Makarenko, 1). This was the responsibility of the provinces, but after acquiring unanimous provincial consent, he made it become a federal issue (Makarenko, 1). The British Parliament made a change to the British North American Act (now the Canadian Constitution) stating that unemployment insurance was now a federal power and not a provincial power (Makarenko, 1). King introduced a nationwide public system of unemployment insurance, which was funded by employees, employers, and the federal government (Makarenko, 1). This action helped Canada become stronger due to the fact that it provided an income for the people who couldn t work due to maternity issues, amputations, and illness. Now, the people who couldn t support themselves had relief from the government which abled them to be able to survive and keep poverty on a lower scale. Orlistat prevents fat digestions and absorption by binding to gastrointestinal lipases. The fat is blocked and fat is not digested and passed out in feces. Sibutramine works differently to affect the nerve cells in the brain that regulate appetite. Rimonabant works as a CB1 antagonist. Barry explores how Gingrich, who Barry recalls was ruthless in the coldest way, exploited and manipulated the media to unfairly and unjustly bring down Wright through a scandal. While it was Gingrich who orchestrated the attacks on Wright, Barry focuses mainly on the media as being a player in the game. Gingrich understood the influential power of the media. While most politicians dislike the media as most of what is written exists as lies or exaggerations, powerful politicians are able to manipulate the media to further their own needs. Inside the game, the politician with the better tactics, for example the one who knows what to say, when to say it, and with what tone should it be said, will have a more positive relationship with the media and a greater chance to abuse the influence the media has. Outside the game, similarly to athletes, money has power and can be crucial in establishing relationships. Therefore the man who has greater money has a greater potential to create positive ties with the media. Again, while this book, due to the time period, relates this power of influence struggle between Wright and Gingrich, a more up to date comparison would be between potential Presidential Candidates Hillary Clinton, who owns the media through inside the game tactics and Donald Trump, who holds influence outside the game by using his own non lobbyist ... Video Analysis of Student Teaching Using Satic Model ANALYSIS OF TYPES OF STUDENT TEACHER INTERACTIONS IN THE CLASSROOM Tyler Sason Dr. Robin Smith 27 April 2013 SMT4301 Spring 2013 INTRODUCTION One of the most important components of successful science teaching is the use of effective questioning (Clough, 2007). Abraham and Schlitt (1973) argue that, Teaching requires continuous analysis of both student and teacher behaviors and subsequent modificationof classroom performance. They also say teachers must be their own critics if continuous analysis is to occur (Abraham amp; Schlitt, 1973). (Herman, 2008 pp. 16) Herman (2008) found that teachers were more likely to elicit extended answers through the use of more open ended questions. After reading these articles, I was convinced that I needed to improve my own questioning skills, which lead me to use the SATIC model for a self evaluation of my use of questioning in the classroom. METHODS The tool that I will use to help answer this question is the SATIC (Student and Teacher Interaction Coding) (Abraham amp; Schlitt, 1973) which is a tool that was developed for monitoring certain teacher behaviors. In order to better understand how the SATIC works and interpret the results, Abraham and Schlitt (1973) explain the use of the SATIC instrument; its history, uses, and implementation, along with a coding sheet to help the user analyze the data they have collected. His wrongful conviction was the result of failures by not only the public, but also law enforcement personnel and the criminal justice system, as we will further examine. The Democratic Partys purposed served to supported states rights and the strict interpretation of the Constitution (Mayne, 1). Correspondingly, providing financial support to family based agriculture was one of their main priorities (Mayne, 1). The Federalist Party, their opposition, consisted of wealthy elites that strived, and fought for one strong all ruling national government, rather than state governments. As the United States had just recently become independent, the Democratic Republican Party was determined to prevent the United States from becoming a monarchy. Over the next century, the Democratic Republican party began to split due to the lack of agreement on major ideas which led to the current two party system. However, some ideologies remain the same such as moral stance, and socioeconomic status. Other ideologies like economic view and stance on government power have caused this split between the Democratic and Republican parties (Mayne, 22). It is imperative to remember that even though these two parties are completely different, they originated from the same party with one main goal; To create a government that is run for and by its people (Mayne, 23). I have still not developed a political identity, but over the past three years of my residence in the United States, I am more in favor of the Democratic Party and what they stand for. At first, the Democratic Party started out as the conservative party and the Republicans were the liberals. However, over time, the Democratic Party has associated itself with social liberalism. Social liberalism is a political ideology which states that individual liberty requires social justice (DeMichele, 11). To be more precise, social liberal values include: equal pay, importance of women s rights and healthcare rights, pro safety, a progressive approach to taxation, and union ... • 40. How The Genetic Transformation And Determine The... Aim The aim of the experiment was to observe the genetic transformation and determine the transformation efficiency of the bacteria, E.Coli. Introduction Injection of DNA into cells which results in the inheritance of traits contained in the DNA injected is known as genetic transformation (Lorenz et al, 1994). Genetic transformation that occurs naturally has resulted in evolution. The efficiency and rate of exchange of genetic material can be increased if both organisms use the same system of genetic information storage e.g. DNA plasmid (Johnsborg et al, 2007). The bacteria E.Coli which are used in the experiment are sensitive to antibiotic, they do not glow and are easily transformed (Dickson, 2008). Bacteria are single celled which increases the result of an uptake of substance, and E.Coli have circular DNA or better known as plasmids. These plasmids can be replicated and passed on to the next generation. The plasmids added to the colonies will be used as the medium for insertion and expression of the foreign DNA sequence (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, No Date). A gene carrying the GFP or Green Fluorescent Protein is used in the experiment. GFP is found naturally in the North American jellyfish, Aequorea Victoria, and is harmless hence leading to its usage as a tool to study gene expression in an organism as they are easily visible (Dickson, 2008). GFP causes an organism to glow under UV light. Escherichia Coli or E.Coli is considered as a gram negative bacteria. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
